Who is your favorite anti-hero?

I’m not 100% sure you can call him an anti-hero, but Damien is one of my favorite misunderstood characters. He wants so badly to belong, but his power of suggestion leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to doing the right thing. I don’t want to spoil anything, but after reading A Neon Darkness by @laurenshippen I totally understand where Damien is coming from in the Bright Sessions podcast and why he does the things that he does. My heart really goes out to him and I’m so glad Lauren gave us a little more of his story.

If you’re into fiction podcasts and audio dramas at all, I highly recommend giving @thebrightsessions a go. It’s basically like what would happen if the X-Men were in therapy dealing with their trauma instead of saving the world? It’s so good! If you’re not into podcasts, there are three books set in the world: The Infinite Noise (follows Caleb and Adam), A Neon Darkness (follows Damien), and Some Far Away Place (follows Rose). All three books (and the podcast) are incredibly queer and so so SO GOOD! The books are all technically stand-alone and supplemental to the podcast. Except for The Infinite Noise—it’s basically the first season from Caleb and Adam’s perspective. So if you do read it, and you like it, definitely give the podcast a chance.

Ahh yeah, let's talk about The Bright Sessions (@brightpodcast ) from @laurenshippen and @atypicalartists . The Bright Sessions is a speculative fiction drama podcast, and is the first pod in the Lauren Shippen Empire. It falls in to one of the #podtropes I'm always a sucker for, people with special powers, and then turns it on it's ear. It's about the psychiatric practice of Dr. Joan Bright, played by Julia Morizawa (Amelia Project, Bridgewater, The Strange Case of Starship Iris, EOS10). Joan is a psychiatrist who helps people with special abilities, atypicals, to manage and control their powers, and also just offer good old fashioned counseling. Like, what if you were a gay high schooler, who suddenly found they could feel the emotions of people around them--all the people...in high school? Had the power to read minds? Time travel, but not when you want to, but triggered by anxiety attacks? What if you had the ability to force people to do what you wanted? How would that affect you? You'd probably want some help coping with this. Though, then again, where did Dr. Bright learn these techniques? Surely someone must have shown her how to help... There's 123 15-30 minute episodes in the feed, including spin-offs, The AM archives, and The College Tapes. Drama, intrigue, and some mystery/occasional heist vibes, The Bright Sessions is definitely on the list of iconic pods you'll regret not listening to. If you like "mutant abilities", found families, and well-crafted stories, then The Bright Sessions is for you!

Ok, I have to know if Samantha Barnes is an active part of The Bright Sessions through all of season 4 and the other show that is related to it? Because I just started season 3 and I have come to the conclusion that I dislike her character so much it is actively ruining the show for me. A yes or no will suffice, I am not here to argue my points. 

Did someone say unique abilities? I love these types of stories because I can relate to being different. I also love that this one is based on a podcast and features a queer love story, mental health and self-discovery. Hey do you like feelings? Do you like characters talking about feelings in various metaphors? Do enjoy assigning colors to feelings? Then “The Infinite noise” may be just up your ally. You got Caleb who is in *cough* year of high school when he suddenly develops the ability to feel other people’s emotions so strongly that they tend to block out his own. Caleb then finds out he is what is known by some as an Atypical. Then Caleb meets Adam, who’s feelings seem to fit very well with Caleb’s own emotions. This starts a rocky cautious friends into something more kinda of relationship. There is also a vague maybe evil background organization that does pretty shady things to Atypical’s, but they don’t play a super major roll in this book. So unless there is a second book I’m not really sure why they were even really mentioned. It was the only thing that kinda bothered me about this book. If had just been a cute boy meets boy with special powers fluffy kinda book I’d have been more then ok with it. Just the adding of the maybe evil organization just had a tacked on at the last minute kinda vibe to it.
