I should stop having fanfic ideas. I'll likely never write any of them and they aren't good (though I do want to finish my WTNV because I did start if) but they invade my mind and I can't stop thinking about them.
Right now, my brain decided that the best way for me to not be thinking about all the thing that I have to do and how they will go wrong was to think about what if series!Olivia had read the book and had the same ideas but was recruited by a way more book accurated morally gray VFD to a Jacques that is still cool and suave but also overworked, ready to implode in unadressed trauma and not as heroic. Larry and Jacqueline should still be there. I like them. I think they can easily be integrated to the grayer, older and even more complex book version of VFD easilly.
Now I think that Olivia being there (and Lulu being a separated person) as well as Jacques not being a lone agent would have changed things. But mostly I just want the story of a lonely young woman thinking she finally got something that can change the world for the better and slowly realizing that it can only really work if a lot of things change. How someone who didn't "volunteer' as kid would deal with it and how it would be likelt way closer to what VFD was when it started (because I do think it was a good thing at first). And I like stories of disapointment and the end of hero workship specially if this idea still has the hope of understand people are mixed salads and trying to make something better with the broken pieces.

Is Jacquelyn at fault in the Netflix series? (NCT)
Jacquelyn Scieszka is one of the most notable differences between Book- and Netflix-Canon. Her character is often portrayed alongside Larry Your-Waiter, with the pair acting as 'noble', working against Olaf and his accomplices, throughout the series.
However, there is one point I have picked up on to argue that Jacquelyn caused the heinous events of The Wide Window to occur: Jacquelyn chased Olaf onto the SS Prospero, and this was, arguably, one of the greatest mistakes made in this show.
Of course, as viewers, we understand her intentions:
Bring Olaf to justice, as nothing can happen once he's in Peru (even he knows that!)
Bring back Klaus' half of the Baudelaire spyglass
But this act made Olaf jump into the water below, where he would've made it back to shore, to meet with his troupe, before taking a boat out onto Lake Lachrymose, where The Wide Window's events begin.
If Jacquelyn did NOT get onto the SS Prospero, this would've happened:
Olaf sails away to Peru on the SS Prospero, to (in his words) "wait for the manhunt to die down, eat some cuy"
The Baudelaires go to live with their Aunt Josephine
Poe gets his promotion (probably)
Manhunts take YEARS to die down; Osama Bin Laden's - for example - took 10-15 years, before the US Navy tracked him down to a compound in North-West Pakistan.
So, here's the real genius of this part: by the time Olaf returns because the manhunt has died down, the Baudelaires already have access to their fortune!
As the phrase goes,
"It [was] a wicked thing to do, for a noble reason."
Did she have a choice?

a thing i noticed while rewatching asoue.
ok so. there's this consistent theme of count olaf not being able to work with other villains, right? and that was always implied to be because he's bad at teamwork (a traditional bad guy trait), and just kind of left at that.
BUT. HERE'S THE THING:
olaf being bad at teamwork makes perfect sense for his character. he's extremely self-centered, and never really had that "other people exist in the same way as me" realization that most people go through during their childhood. in other words, he completely lacks any sense of sonder, which is why he won't hesitate to leave someone the second they deviate from his plan.
but ohh no, that's not all.
see, another thing i noticed is that the reoccuring reason for other villains ditching olaf/olaf ditching other villains is a lack of understanding.
esmé and olaf never worked well together, because their motives were so different; esmé just wanted her sugar bowl back, meanwhile what olaf was seeking was much more complex: both a material good (the baudelaire fortune), but also a symbolic, indirect revenge on beatrice baudelaire for her involvement in his father's death. the reason the two couldn't work together was because they couldn't understand each other's perspectives.
it's even more interesting of a pattern when it comes to olaf and carmelita: in my head, it seems like olaf genuinely was reminded of a younger version of himself at first, but got irritated when she was too much like a younger version of himself (no experiance of the real word, spoiled rotten), from before his father died. in other words, a version of himself that was still in that place of privilege that he'd lost with his father. so olaf wasn't just annoyed with carmelita's entitlement, her presence and personality reminded him of what he'd lost and how that loss had changed him.
overall, i think a lot of olaf's actions have this theme of not having a lot, or having lost a lot. his house, his outfits, all of it indicates that at this point in his life, he's at his lowest. his dad's status implies he grew up in a place of privilege, but his life quickly went downhill afterwards.
i think that that's, to some degree, the reason he hates displays of wealth or wellness so much. even on a moral basis: he openly criticizes members of vfd for their perceived moral pureness or goody two shoes attitudes, because he sees it as dishonest. he's seen the bad side of vfd, and no longer has any sympathy for the "good" side. but beyond that, i think he envies their morality, since it's something he never had despite being raised the same way.
i also think that maybe olaf feels like he was never given a fair chance to do the right thing, since he was approached by the man with the beard but no hair and the woman with the hair but no beard right after his father's death, when he was emotionally vulnerable and easy to manipulate. he thinks that this means that he had no real choice, and is therefore not responsible for his actions.
but vfd members that have been through similar tragedies (the snicket siblings, larry, monty, josephine, etc) and still continue to do the right thing constantly remind olaf that the problem is his own nature (irresponsible, emotional, irrational, morally bankrupt) making him easy to manipulate, not just the circumstances of his life. their very existance proves that he had just as much of a fair chance as anyone else; that's why he hates them so much. he doesn't want to be responsible for his actions.
uhhh this got very off-track, and turned into me just analyzing count olaf's character, but oh well-

I'm in love with Larry Your Waiter from A Series of Unfortunate Events. ❤️‍🩹
In 2018, I was 15 and I really loved Larry. Then the third season came and it became my nightmare... It still hurts my heart and he is the only character in the series whose death I cried for. (besides, my father bullied me for crying over his death and I couldn't even grieve with peace of mind 💔) I still love him very much and I can't change the fact that he still warms my heart. I had pure and sweet feelings for him and still. I realize that I'm looking for his presence in this world too, for a moment my brain almost sees Larry in some people.
Tumblr media
I would be very happy if you would like to discuss such feelings with me. I need to see people who will understand me. English is not my first language by the way.

here's some Series of Unfortunate Events VFD members (from before the schism) incorrect quotes cause I recently rewatched the series :)
characters included: Josephine Anwhistle, Beatrice Baudelaire, Bertrand Baudelaire, Monty Montgomery, Gustav Sebald, Jacques Snicket, Kit Snicket, Lemony Snicket, Larry Your Waiter, and Count Olaf. (sorry if i've missed anyone!)
Colour Thingy (mainly for me to remember while writing this)
Josephine , Beatrice , Bertrand , Monty , Gustav , Jacques , Kit , Lemony , Larry , Olaf
(yes there will be jacques x larry content here they were in love and i will die trying to prove it. (there will also be lemony x beatrice here because i love them with my whole heart.))
----
Bertrand: Fellas, I gotta know for science. Is the opposite of red green or blue?
Larry: Technically a mix of green and blue?
Bertrand: So blurple.
Larry: That's implying you're mixing blue and purple.
Bertrand: Would you rather have fucking bleen? MOTHERFUCKING GRUE?
Larry: You were confusing before but now I'm scared.
----
Olaf: I'm totally useless :(
Jacques: You're not totally useless.
Jacques: You can be used as a bad example.
----
Beatrice: I can do anything I put my mind to. I once figured out Kit's phone number just by choosing random numbers.
----
Larry: Jacques is playing hard to get.
Larry: Little does he know, I'm a master at playing hard to get rid of.
----
Lemony, opening a Capri Sun: Guess I'll drink my sorrows away.
----
Josephine: Do you care if I take the skin off this Furby?
Josephine: I want to make him a god. Once he is free of his sinful flesh, he can begin a path towards enlightenment. He will take care of us.
Joesphine: I also want to softhack his circuits.
Kit: I literally could not care less but never say anything as frightening as that ever again.
to be continued :)
----
Olaf: If I make you breakfast in bed, a simple "thank you" is all I need.
Olaf: Not all this "how dif you get into my house" business.
----
Monty: HYDRATE OR DIE-DRATE!! *aggressively throws water bottles*
Kit: Uh... what's up with him?
Gustav: He's trying to yell mental health and wellbeing into us.
Monty: I APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU!!
Larry, crying: It's working.
----
Jacques and Lemony: *accidentally set the kitchen on fire*
Lemony: WE NEED AN ADULT!
Jacques: Lemony, YOU ARE AN ADULT.
Lemony: WE NEED AN ADULTIER ADULT!! GET KIT.
----
Kit: I have a problem..
Olaf: Kill it.
Kit: Can you chill for like, two seconds??

random post of headcanons of mine for some asoue characters:
georgina orwell isn’t always hypnotizing people that come into her office; she has to find other sources of income after all. when she does her actual job of an optometrist, georgina is quite good. she even has the highest rating of all the optometrists in the land of districts.
larry isn’t too happy that almost everyone refers to him as larry, your waiter. ‘your waiter’ isn’t his surname. larry knows they know his surname, but they just never say it. larry wants to quit being a waiter as result, but can’t due to being the best volunteer for the role.
r’s first name isn’t ramona, like in ramona quimby. ramona is a nickname beatrice is a part of. the ramona quimby series has ramona having an older sister beatrice, nickname beezus. as such, r got the nickname of ‘ramona’, with beatrice getting the nickname of ‘beezus’.
phil is alive by the end. phil was dismiss of service from the queequeg and vfd by widdershins, who wanted phil to get out while having that chance. phil ends up becoming a library assistant, befriending the main librarian, an old man name hal.
sally is the oldest of the sebald siblings. sally isn’t sure how the reverse came to be, but sally hates getting mistaken for the younger sibling. she once hated it so badly, she kept a copy of both of their birth certificates whenever someone incorrectly assumes.
gustav is actually his middle name. gustav’s first name is in fact, shelby. gustav goes by gustav because he thinks it sounds nicer, as well as the fact that when applying for the directors guild and writers guild, there is already an existing shelby sebald as a member in both.
