“Septon Cellador spoke up. “This boy Satin. It’s said you mean to make him your steward and squire, in Tollett’s place. My lord, the boy’s a whore…a…dare I say…a painted catamite from the brothels of Oldtown.”
And you are a drunk. “What he was in Oldtown is none of our concern. He’s quick to learn and very clever. The other recruits started out despising him, but he won them over and made friends of them all. He’s fearless in a fight and can even read and write after a fashion. He should be capable of fetching me my meals and saddling my horse, don’t you think?”

Jon's sweet ending+ the crown of Torrhen Stark
I just found out that Rhaegar could have left Torrhen's crown to Lyanna as proof of his favor and Jon's legitimacy.
"The ancient crown of the Kings of Winter had been lost three centuries ago, yielded up to Aegon the Conqueror when Torrhen Stark knelt in submission. What Aegon had done with it no man could say."
The popular theory is that maybe Rhaegar's harp/cloak is what was in Lyanna's tomb but given the Lyanna hints about crowns and Queen Sansa's show's ending, it could be more likely. It's also more meaningful for Jon- it's a reinforcement of his Northern identity that a Targ relic would not give him.
The symbol of the North being part of the Seven Kingdoms returned to its rightful place all because a dragon married a wolf. So what if King Bran *seals* the deal and make it official by having another dragon marry a wolf. The North would have it's independence back and the Starks will continue to be Kings of Winter.
“Renly Baratheon is nothing to me. Nor Stannis neither. Why should they rule over me and mine, from some flowery seat in Highgarden or Dorne? What do they know of the Wall or the wolfswood or the barrows of the First Men? Even their gods are wrong. The Others take the Lannisters, too. I’ve had a bellyful of them.”
"Why shouldn't we rule ourselves again? It was the dragons we married, and the dragons are all dead!" He pointed at Robb with the blade. "There sits the only king I mean to bow my knee to, m'lords," he thundered. "The King in the North!"
The dragons are not dead! Even better, he knows of the Wall and barrows of the First Men.
Mormont gave a whistle, and the bird flew to him again and settled on his arm. "A lord's one thing, a king's another." He offered the raven a handful of corn from his pocket. "They will garb your brother Robb in silks, satins, and velvets of a hundred different colors, while you live and die in black ringmail. He will wed some beautiful princess and father sons on her. You'll have no wife, nor will you ever hold a child of your own blood in your arms. Robb will rule, you will serve. Men will call you a crow. Him they'll call Your Grace. Singers will praise every little thing he does, while your greatest deeds all go unsung. Tell me that none of this troubles you, Jon . . . and I'll name you a liar, and know I have the truth of it."
Jon drew himself up, taut as a bowstring. "And if it did trouble me, what might I do, bastard as I am?"
Robb never had this so maybe Jon might. Ends with a question mark, is he really a bastard? He's not.
And in time the boy would take the oath as well. He would father no sons who might someday contest with Catelyn's own grandchildren for Winterfell.
Cause the sons he will father would have the right to Winterfell.
She may not be a princess, but she would make a worthy wife for any lord.
The Princess in the Tower was given ill suited suitors by her father because she was secretly betrothed to a Targaryen. Makes you think.

Unpopular opinion, but I disagree with the notion that Jon should be accepting of his bastardy and not rule if given the chance. Even  “I don’t want it ” show!Jon ended up as KITN when some Northerners randomly made him one despite Ned Stark’s trueborn daughter sitting beside him, so why wouldn’t the book version - who does want it - not accept an offer to be King?
Why shouldn’t Jon Snow rule the North and Winterfell? Of the remaining Starks, he’s the oldest, most experienced and qualified. He is Ned Stark’s son. Winterfell is as much as his home as it is to the rest of the Starks. He learned from the same people Robb did. Removing any gender and class bias, Jon’s still the best person belonging to house Stark to rule the North. Robb Stark certainly thought so.
Jon has never let being a bastard define what he is capable of. He has always looked beyond class lines and valued people for what they are capable of rather than the limited and narrow views that society has. Why wouldn’t Jon want to rule the North?
I feel that reasons like ‘Jon is a bastard, he should remain a bastard, Jon being king would undermine his story, perfect King Jon would be boring etc.’ are just excuses for wanting Jon out of rulership. One may as well say that they want *insert favorite character* to be king/Queen rather than Jon.
Rather, I think this line of thinking should be applied to someone like Young Griff - and this is precisely the story that GRRM is trying to tell with the character. It would, for example, be boring for secret, trueborn, Targaryen prince Aegon to go on to be the perfect king that Varys expects him to be.
Young Griff is the perfect king on paper –  groomed to know the common man’s struggle, he’s smart, well liked etc. But for us readers, him becoming king would feel unearned. Young Griff is actually a critique of unearned rulership.  We see from his cyvasse game with Tyrion, that he is arrogant and spoiled. He feels entitled to Dany’s dragons – the dragons that Dany has hatched and nurtured and bonded with. He thinks that Dany will immediately throw her full support behind him.
Compare Young Griff to Jon, Dany and Arya. Jon is defending the realm without any expectation of reward, planning Stannis’ campaign to win the North, preparing the wall for an attack from an existential threat. Dany halts her Westerosi campaign and is ruling Meereen for the people, dealing with insurgency, famine and sickness, having to make the hard decisions that come at great personal cost. Arya actually lived among small folk in war torn Westeros. She has no Jon Connington or mercenaries protecting her as she fake lives among the small folk – her experiences are real. The pain and trauma she experiences – that she sees the small folk go through – that’s real. It was about survival for her, instead of Young Griff learning how to fish and wash clothes.
Young Griff is supposed to feel unearned. He is a stand in for Jon, Dany and Arya – the secret prince, the Targaryen come to take the Iron Throne and the Stark princess who has actually lived among the small folk and befriended them. Young Griff is Jon, Dany and Arya without their actual experiences.  Not to mention that in GRRM’s world, there are no perfect kings or queens. His rulers are flawed leaders who make mistakes because ruling is hard.
That has been GRRM’s position  - rulership has to be earned. And I think right now 17 year old Jon and 16 year old Dany have earned their leadership positions by actually doing and learning. If Jon Snow becomes KITN, he would have earned that position.
I also disagree with the notion that Jon should not be trueborn because that would ruin his character and make his story pointless.
This is Jon Snow we are talking about here. The Jon Snow who loved wild child Arya for her bird’s nest hair and her scabby knees and gave Lady Arya Stark a sword because she wanted to learn how to use it like her brothers. The Jon Snow who thought that it was okay if Randyll Tarly’s eldest son did not want to fight and asked Maester Aemon to take Sam on because he’s intelligent and liked to read. The Jon Snow who made Satin his steward because he was quick and clever and fearless in a fight. The Jon Snow who held out his hand and called Tyrion Lannister friend.
The Jon Snow who said this:
The collar is supposed to remind a maester of the realm he serves, isn’t that so? Lords are gold and knights steel, but two links can’t make a chain. You also need silver and iron and lead, tin and copper and bronze and all the rest, and those are farmers and smiths and merchants and the like. A chain needs all sorts of metals, and a land needs all sorts of people. The Night’s Watch needs all sorts too. Why else have rangers and stewards and builders? Lord Randyll couldn’t make Sam a warrior, and Ser Alliser won’t either. You can’t hammer tin into iron, no matter how hard you beat it, but that doesn’t mean tin is useless. Why shouldn’t Sam be a steward?”
If this Jon Snow turns out to be trueborn, does he suddenly regress into a person who buys into Westeros’ patriarchal and primitive notions of blood and birth defining who a person should be? Is he suddenly going to expect Arya to behave like a southron lady? Fire Satin from his job?
Is Jon going to believe that being trueborn is superior and that is why he became Lord Commander? Are we as readers going to think that Jon only got to where he is because he is trueborn? All the decisions he made  – all that is retroactively ruined because he’s trueborn?
I doubt Jon is trueborn in any case - Rhaegar was married to Elia and they had children.  Rather, I think GRRM will use Jon’s parentage to explore one of the themes that he really loves – the human heart in conflict with itself. It would add an extra layer of angst, self-doubt, and struggle to Jon’s already existing personal issues.  A father he loved and blamed for his bastardy, send him to the wall - to a life of hardship and celibacy - without telling him the truth. Everything he knew about himself is a lie.
With GRRM’s writing, he could delve into Jon’s inner psyche as he is hit with these truths. A possible heir to the Iron Throne ends up a low born bastard at the wall – how does one deal with all this? How does one react? Then there are his relationships with the only other Targaryen and his now cousin Arya. And that’s what would make any such reveal exciting and add complexity to character and character arcs.  And I think that would be damn interesting to read.

hello. sorry for asking out of nowhere, i was just curious. what are your favourite asoiaf theories?
oh anon i love you. i hold you close to me and kiss your nose. a very fun fact about me is that i am a huge HUGE fan of asoiaf theories and go on the subreddit every day bc im insane. ive spent a frankly ridiculous amount of time reading thru this stuff. it’s a problem. but you have come, to the right place
grand northern conspiracy. this one’s just a classic. i take it as fact tbh. if u havent read the GNC whata re you even doing here
other popular normie theories i think are true: r+l=j obviously, sandor is the gravedigger on the quiet isle, sarella=alleras, lyanna was the knight of the laughing tree, aegon is a blackfyre, night lamp
the iron bank and the faceless men are either connected or the same thing. this is why they’ve got arya. well... maybe. bonus points for the god of many faces just being, coin. get it cause. theres lots of faces on. coins. it’s fun
melisandre is the daughter of shiera seastar and bloodraven. i’m kinda ambivalent on this but it wouldnt surprise me
this is illegal because it’s MY theory but satin is the mary magdalene figure to jon’s jesus and will witness the resurrection: change my mind
i’ll link my other one, why not. using comparative mythology to assert that there is no azor ahai reborn, it’s all just fractured histories of the long night. way too complicated, but it’s MY TAKE DAMMIT
i don’t believe everything in the meereenese blot’s take on dany’s arc in adwd but it did help me get my head around it + reanalyze what the hell was going on
okay. this one’s ridiculous but i’m kind of obsessed with it. please god bear with me, i dont believe half of it and it’s WAY too long but: ser shadrich the mad mouse is howland reed (this i genuinely believe). additionally, ser byron is sandor clegane in a glamour and ser morgarth is the elder brother and they’re all gonna rescue sansa from the vale. i don’t.. necessarily believe the last two. or do i? fucking INSANE but also compelling for reasons i cannot comprehend at this time. give it a shot
dont have a writeup but i do think brienne is the younger and more beautiful queen in the valonqar prophecy :)
also i think jon is azor ahai actually except no i dont but i do. but i dont <3 also i think he accidentally became king beyond the wall in adwd so there is that.
also COLDHANDS = DANNY FLINT i’m a truther for this
NOT a theory but you should read poorquentyn’s analyses of tyrion, quentyn and davos in adwd because i said so (they’re good)
also not a theory (sorry) but this analysis of the social contract in asoiaf explained hobbes locke and rousseau better than my philosophy 100 class LOL it’s fun

You know what’s weird? The misconception that Arya is only good at physical things like fighting. Before everyone else, only she & Jon figured out the Lannisters, seeing their classism for what it was. She rightfully befriends & defends the smallfolk, can figure out complex situations like the trap for her in King’s Lansing with the fame Stark soldiers, and survive war, hunger, and violence. And in Braavos, she is learning so much from languages, reading people, & even mummery and courtesy.
Right? It’s insane because she’s also not that good at fighting. She has barely trained with Needle and though she can kill a guy, it’s mostly wild and untamed with little form and she has not trained in a long time. But she’s super intuitive. Sure, Robb figured out Joffrey was a little shit, but only when they fought, and it took Bran longer to understand the same about the Frey boys. Meanwhile, Jon and Arya are here understanding their classism from the first. And her friendship with the smallfolk is something that Varys lists as a reason why Aegon should be king, so it’s clearly a wise thing.
Sansa knew all about the sorts of people Arya liked to talk to: squires and grooms and serving girls, old men and naked children, rough-spoken freeriders of uncertain birth. Arya would make friends with anybody. This Mycah was the worst; a butcher's boy, thirteen and wild, he slept in the meat wagon and smelled of the slaughtering block. Just the sight of him was enough to make Sansa feel sick, but Arya seemed to prefer his company to hers. - Sansa I, AGOT
We all remember this, yeah? Well, it’s just an extension of this:
Her father used to say that a lord needed to eat with his men, if he hoped to keep them. "Know the men who follow you," she heard him tell Robb once, "and let them know you. Don't ask your men to die for a stranger." At Winterfell, he always had an extra seat set at his own table, and every day a different man would be asked to join him. One night it would be Vayon Poole, and the talk would be coppers and bread stores and servants. The next time it would be Mikken, and her father would listen to him go on about armor and swords and how hot a forge should be and the best way to temper steel. Another day it might be Hullen with his endless horse talk, or Septon Chayle from the library, or Jory, or Ser Rodrik, or even Old Nan with her stories. Arya had loved nothing better than to sit at her father's table and listen to them talk. She had loved listening to the men on the benches too; to freeriders tough as leather, courtly knights and bold young squires, grizzled old men-at-arms. She used to throw snowballs at them and help them steal pies from the kitchen. Their wives gave her scones and she invented names for their babies and played monsters-and-maidens and hide-the-treasure and come-into-my-castle with their children. Fat Tom used to call her "Arya Underfoot," because he said that was where she always was. She'd liked that a lot better than "Arya Horseface." - Arya II, AGOT
This is the exact behaviour that seems to constitute a good lord or king, and good kings are wise, and part of wisdom is taking advice from people who know more than you. Chances are, other nobles with the exact same education and class biases will not know more than Arya or any other highborn, so getting to know these people are really how a lord gets to understand the people he rules and become wiser as a result. If you keep to your own class, you will never learn or truly understand anything. Arya understands this from her father’s lessons, and it clearly shows how wise she is. The fact that other characters talk about how good and wise this behaviour is (not talking about Arya, just generally) just confirms this.
"It seems to me that a queen who trusts no one is as foolish as a queen who trusts everyone. Every man I take into my service is a risk, I understand that, but how am I to win the Seven Kingdoms without such risks? Am I to conquer Westeros with one exile knight and three Dothraki bloodriders?" - Daenerys I, ASOS
Remember this? Same thing. Dany is defending her choice to keep Arstan and Strong Belwas, and if you’ll recall, that was a very good decision in deed. It’s only people like Sansa who view these people as beneath her which is an unwise mentality, and makes her comments about the smallfolk later feel so tone-deaf and ignorant.
And then there’s King’s Landing. For a start, Maegor killed everyone who built the Red Keep so no-one but the Targaryens would ever know the ins and outs, and yet Arya finds a way out by herself. She also sees through the Kingsguard trap with Meryn Trant, finds her way out of the castle, and sees through the thing with the boat which would probably convince most people.
When she saw the guardsmen on the third pier, in grey woolen cloaks trimmed with white satin, her heart almost stopped in her chest. The sight of Winterfell’s colors brought tears to her eyes. Behind them, a sleek three-banked trading galley rocked at her moorings. Arya could not read the name painted on the hull; the words were strange, Myrish, Braavosi, perhaps even High Valyrian. She grabbed a passing longshoreman by the sleeve. “Please,” she said, “what ship is this?” “She’s the Wind Witch, out of Myr,” the man said. “She’s still here,” Arya blurted. The longshoreman gave her a queer look, shrugged, and walked away. Arya ran toward the pier. The Wind Witch was the ship Father had hired to take her home … still waiting! She’d imagined it had sailed ages ago. Two of the guardsmen were dicing together while the third walked rounds, his hand on the pommel of his sword. Ashamed to let them see her crying like a baby, she stopped to rub at her eyes. Her eyes her eyes her eyes, why did …? Look with your eyes, she heard Syrio whisper. Arya looked. She knew all of her father’s men. The three in the grey cloaks were strangers. “You,” the one walking rounds called out. “What do you want here, boy?” The other two looked up from their dice. It was all Arya could do not to bolt and run, but she knew that if she did, they would be after her at once. She made herself walk closer. They were looking for a girl, but he thought she was a boy. She’d be a boy, then. “Want to buy a pigeon?” She showed him the dead bird. “Get out of here,” the guardsman said. Arya did as he told her. She did not have to pretend to be frightened. Behind her, the men went back to their dice. - Arya V, ASOS
It’s clear Cersei came up with this plan and it almost fools her, so if not for Syrio she might have fallen for it and gotten herself captured. Very clever of her. Also, I didn’t want to bring Sansa into this but it’s always her stans parroting this dumb Arya-is-stupid-and-masculine narrative so let’s be real here: I think Arya absolutely would have survived in King’s Landing based on evidence from the books, but Sansa would not if the roles were reversed, purely because of the simple fact that there is no way Sansa would have escaped King’s Landing to begin with. Sansa, who despises the smallfolk and thinks it’s vulgar to spend time with them and doesn’t care Jory died because his replacement is more handsome, would not have known that they were not Stark men. She would have seen the cloaks and the ship and run up to them telling them her name and she would be captured. Not only is knowing the people who serve you a wise way to rule, it also saved Arya’s life here.
And I can’t believe it still needs to be pointed out that she didn’t survive in the Riverlands because of luck. She didn’t fight her way out of every situation, which would have gotten her killed. She listened, she learned, and she knew how to survive in an environment where even plain silence could mean your death. The way she’s learning in Braavos also speaks for itself. My girl is learning/knows 5 languages!
Arya Stark is really fucking clever guys!

I was struck by your idea that there may be a Jonsa political marriage in TWOW or early in ADOS because I could NOT figure out why they made all those parallels between them and Ned/Cat in the show without addressing it. But, your idea worries me because in s7 they compared J/D to Rhaegar/Lyanna, and while I can't imagine Jon being unfaithful, Dany falling in love with Jon was what brought her North. So how does that/the love triangle we saw on the show play out if Jonsa is already married?
Hello @esther-dot! First of all thank you for your ask, people don’t ask me anything usually so your ask made me really happy.
I wrote a long answer I guess, sorry :
First let me say that: I think we are giving too much credit to show. After S4 the show kind of stopped following the books. I mean look at the S5 Ramsay/Sansa nonsense. D&D made it clear that GRRM gave them some important scenes for them to work with so I see the show as a slide-show of some scenes from books tbh. For example the arrival of the Knights of the Vale was sth you can find the hints of it in the books. Or the trial and death of Baelish by the hand of Sansa. Even the death of Daenerys was foreshadowed in the books. But the plots to get to those scenes were all D&D if you ask me. So they had to fill the gaps and they did it how they wanted.
At this point I really can’t see a version of Asoiaf without a jonsa plot. Jonsa is the most foreshadowed plot in the books. The hints are starting in the prologue of the AGOT and they keep going in the AFFC and ADWD, and you can even find hints in other books of GRRM. Jonsa foreshadowings are surrounded by marriage and children imagery. So not having a jonsa marriage or kids seems unlikely to me.
I am looking at the j*nerys foreshadowings and they are all about them being enemies. For example these two chapters that follow each other:
“No. Dany shivered. No, no, oh no.“Are you deaf, fool?” Reznak mo Reznak demanded of the man. “Did you not hear my pronouncement? See my factors on the morrow, and you shall be paid for your sheep.” “Reznak,” Ser Barristan said quietly, “hold your tongue and open your eyes. Those are no sheep bones.” No, Dany thought, those are the bones of a child.”
[A Dance with Dragons; Daenerys]
*
Burning dead children had ceased to trouble Jon Snow; live ones were another matter. Two kings to wake the dragon. The father first and then the son, so both die kings. The words had been murmured by one of the queen’s men as Maester Aemon had cleaned his wounds. Jon had tried to dismiss them as his fever talking. Aemon had demurred. “There is power in a king’s blood,” the old maester had warned, “and better men than Stannis have done worse things than this.” The king can be harsh and unforgiving, aye, but a babe still on the breast? Only a monster would give a living child to the flames.
[A Dance with Dragons; Jon]
***
The next morning Xaro’s galleas was gone, but the “gift” that he had brought her remained behind in Slaver’s Bay. Long red streamers flew from the masts of the thirteen Qartheen galleys, writhing in the wind. And when Daenerys descended to hold court, a messenger from the ships awaited her. He spoke no word but laid at her feet a black satin pillow, upon which rested a single bloodstained glove. “What is this?” Skahaz demanded. “A bloody glove …” “… means war,” said the queen.
[A Dance with Dragons; Daenerys]
*
As they did their count, Jon peeled the glove off his left hand and touched the nearest haunch of venison. He could feel his fingers sticking, and when he pulled them back he lost a bit of skin. His fingertips were numb. What did you expect? There’s a mountain of ice above your head, more tons than even Bowen Marsh could count. Even so, the room felt colder than it should.“It is worse than I feared, my lord,” Marsh announced when he was done. He sounded gloomier than Dolorous Edd.Jon had just been thinking that all the meat in the world surrounded them. You know nothing, Jon Snow. “How so? This seems a deal of food to me.”
[A Dance with Dragons; Jon]
***
Dizzy, Dany closed her eyes. When she opened them again, she glimpsed the Meereenese beneath her through a haze of tears and dust, pouring up the steps and out into the streets. The lash was still in her hand. She flicked it against Drogon’s neck and cried, “Higher!” Her other hand clutched at his scales, her fingers scrabbling for purchase. Drogon’s wide black wings beat the air. Dany could feel the heat of him between her thighs. Her heart felt as if it were about to burst. Yes, she thought, yes, now, now, do it, do it, take me, take me, FLY!”
[A Dance with Dragons; Daenerys]
*
Jon clasped the offered hand. The words of his oath rang through his head. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men.
[A Dance with Dragons; Jon]
***
I really try to see some romantic hints in those but I can’t find them. So why did D&D choose to do j*nerys instead of jonsa? Let’s face it: Their main audience are locals and Dany lovers. People were waiting them to bang... (ew). And when he was asked about Grrm’s intentions about Jon and Dany, Alan Taylor (director) said that he can’t tell what Grrm said because it is a S8 twist. So even the most j*nerys shipper director couldn’t confirm that j*nerys was sth Grrm told them about. What Grrm told them was a S8 twist, which turned out to be Jon killing Daenerys. I bet they chose the route of a romance instead of them being enemies (Dance of Dragons 2.0 ?!?!?!) so they could shock the audience with the final twist (a poor choice i must say).
So what I am trying to say is that: j*nerys is probably not a book thing. Or at least it can only be one sided in the books. Look at the S7-8 Jon Snow.. they made him so OOC to be in love with Dany... I am sure that Book!Jon won’t be in love with Dany. To be fair, I even can’t see Jon in Dragonstone or etc. Traveling during a White Walker threat is not a good idea. He won’t have such a time to go to DS and fall in love with someone like Dany. Dany is a combination of Cersei, Joffrey, Stannis, Selyse and Melisandre... Can you imagine Jon falling for those? No I don’t think so. I mean there is even dragon glass in Skagos... why would he bother to go DS? And we know that Dragons don’t like North and I can’t image using the fire threat to beat the ice threat... So her dragons won’t be the main forces against the Others.
I tried to explain why Show!J*nerys was so forced to please the audience and how it was a fan service plot. But still an one-sided j*nerys can happen in the books. There are more foreshowings for this tbh. I am imaging an Aerys-Joanna-Tywin kind of triangle in the books.
I mean look at this: (I have examined the Jon chapters that follow Dany ones in the ADWD and there were some interesting things. Maybe i’ll write a meta about them one day but for now let’s focus on one hint that I found interesting)
“I want to know. I never knew my father. I want to know everything about him. The good and … the rest.” “As you command.” The white knight chose his words with care. “Prince Aerys … as a youth, he was taken with a certain lady of Casterly Rock, a cousin of Tywin Lannister. When she and Tywin wed, your father drank too much wine at the wedding feast and was heard to say that it was a great pity that the lord’s right to the first night had been abolished. A drunken jape, no more, but Tywin Lannister was not a man to forget such words, or the … the liberties your father took during the bedding.” His face reddened. “I have said too much, Your Grace. I—”
[...]
How beautiful, the queen tried to tell herself, but inside her was some foolish little girl who could not help but look about for Daario. If he loved you, he would come and carry you off at swordpoint, as Rhaegar carried off his northern girl, the girl in her insisted, but the queen knew that was folly.
[A Dance with Dragons; Daenerys]
This is Daenerys’ wedding chapter and she learns about her father’s jealousy about Tywin and Joanna’s marriage.
And bonus: she also wishes that Daario to take her away like Rhaegar did with his Stark lady. So in her wedding chapter she mentions the love between a Targaryen prince and a Stark lady.
But she also knows that no one is coming for her.
And Jon chapter follows this chapter. And he talks about: his dislike for Selyse and Melisandre, kinslaying, daggers in dark, the grey girl. So he won’t like Daenerys either, kinslaying is an important hint (both for Dany-Viserys and Jon-Daenerys) and I bet that Grey Girl is Sansa.
Now we know that Dany is Aerys 2.0 with dragons and she will end what her father has started by burning down KL. So in this triangle Dany is Aerys.
And who are Joanna and Tywin?
The first J+T pair she’ll meet will be Aegon and Arianna probably. They are cousins too and Aegon chose not to be just a consort to his aunt by marrying her, so he’ll probably choose Arianne to gain Dorne’s support. I always consider Aegon (fake or not) and Arianne as a warning for Daenerys about Jonsa. Aegon has parallels with Sansa and Jon (secret identity with different hair color and secret Targ parentage etc). And Arianne has parallels with Sansa (The girl in the tower trope). So those two will be a test for Daenerys before she meets with Jon and Sansa. But her main test will be with Jonsa.
Jonsa fit into Joanna/Tywin pair more. They are cousins and they grew up together and after them being reunited they will be very important for each other.
And let’s not forget about the fact that Tywin was the Hand of Aerys and he betrayed him and his son Jaime killed Aerys in the throne room... We are all aware of the parallels between Jaime and Jon already. But Jon was also her adviser and she wanted to rule the 7K with him. But in the end he betrayed her. I believe that Jon’s Ygritte arc might be useful for him to lure Dany into some false trust. But him sleeping with her and loving her and later lose her in his arms sounds like a cheap copy of Ygritte/Jon plot and it makes no sense.
I think Dany will be taken with him and he’ll use this but it doesn’t mean that they will be lovers. Because it seems like Grrm is going to use RLJ in Jon’s romantic life (like he planned in the original/first outline with Jon-Arya romance). And RLJ has no effect on j*nerys. They can still f*ck and marry...
I mean Grrm even put an uncle-niece marriage (Jonnel-Sansa Stark!!) in the Stark family tree to show that Starks have no problem with marrying with their uncles/aunts etc. Grrm only considers the marriages between siblings and parent-children as incest. So j*nerys is not a doomed love. But for jonsa; RLJ makes everything smooth. Therefore RLJ must be used in jonsa plot.
So Dany is the Aerys of the triangle and no Targaryen prince will come for her because they are busy with their Stark ladies. (Rhaegar- Lyanna and also maybe Jacaerys and Sara Snow?)
To explain the early Jonsa political marriage, I must say that I was inspired by the Grand Northern Conspiracy. According to this theory, Howland Reed is the keeper of Robb’s Will about Jon and he is also the one who knows about RLJ.
It does not go north with Galbart Glover and Maege Mormont, who expressly carry false letters, and is often feared lost at the Twins in the chaos following the Red Wedding. Another possibility, however, is that the document was secreted away in Hag’s Mire and has now been retrieved by Lady Stoneheart. Who in turn, for a real kicker of an ironic twist, delivers the suspected proof of Jon’s kingship to Greywater Watch for safekeeping, care of Howland Reed, who then knows more of the crowns Jon’s entitled to than any other man living in the world of ASOIAF.
https://zincpiccalilli.tumblr.com/post/52748381148
Let’s accept this theory and say that Howland has the Will. Without his proof other lords can’t just announce Jon as the KITN. I believe that Howland will be present at Winterfell to show the Will. But Howland was also a friend of Ned Stark. And he is loyal to House Stark. He kept RLJ as secret for years to protect the Starks and Jon from Robert’s wrath. But Robert is dead and he has no reason to keep this secret anymore. And I can’t imagine him sitting quietly while other lords declare Jon as the King while a true born Stark (Sansa) is sitting right there. He wouldn’t betray Ned’s memory like that. So he’ll spill the tea with RLJ too. And after that maybe Sansa will finally have some agency for her choice of husband. So them together will be the one answer of North’s all wishes.
And let’s not forget that GRRM said he knows which characters will end up married. But in the show there was no marriage. So I am still waiting a marriage.
And even with an early Jonsa marriage, Jon and Dany might still meet. Imagine S7 with a married Jonsa. Jon leaves Sansa to fight a battle. It would be a great parallel with NedCat. Ned left Cat while she was pregnant to go to war. And maybe there will be rumors about Jon and Dragon Queen just like how Ned betrayed Cat. But like Ned, Jon would be loyal to Sansa and North too in truth.
Maybe Jon will gain Dany’s trust and help her against Aegon. And return she’ll accept to help North. But in the end I don’t think that Dany will come/or stay in North. Also in the Jon chapter that comes after Dany one, Jon was warned against Dragons:
“Salladhor Saan?” “The Lysene pirate? Some say he has returned to his old haunts, this is so. And Lord Redwyne’s war fleet creeps through the Broken Arm as well. On its way home, no doubt. But these men and their ships are well-known to us. No, these other sails … from farther east, perhaps … one hears queer talk of dragons.” “Would that we had one here. A dragon might warm things up a bit.” “My lord jests. You will forgive me if I do not laugh. We Braavosi are descended from those who fled Valyria and the wroth of its dragonlords. We do not jape of dragons.” No, I suppose not. “My apologies, Lord Tycho.”
[A Dance with Dragons; Jon]
Maybe Dany will want sth more from Jon and will be jealous of Jon and Sansa just like her father was jealous of Tywin and Joanna. Maybe Jon will betray her in most unexpected time just like Tywin betrayed Aerys.
Btw I am still waiting for a battle between Daenerys and Jon in Trident after he betrayed Dany. (You know Dany dreamed about a fighting against an usurper in ice armor in Trident... Jon will be the Usurper because he’ll be the King of North and Dany will see North as a part of her Kingdom.)
So my timeline would be like this:
- Jon and Sansa reunite and take North back
- The Will and RLJ happen and they unite their claims by marriage
- A dance between Aegon and Daenerys and she loses a dragon
- Jon gains her trust only to use her and pacify her to protect the North during the Dance
- Him refusing the bend the knee and them becoming enemies
- Daenerys loses one of her dragons
- Daenerys and Euron being a chaotic duo for Westeros
- Daenerys burns down KL and marches to North for revenge
- North (aka Jon) vs Daenerys in Trident
- Daenerys dies and Drogon gets hurt
- Jon refusing the throne so he can go back to North (the Duncan of Dragonflies jumped out)
- Bran becomes King
- Jon returns North to fight against the Others etc. (I refuse believe that he’ll be punished and sent back to Wall? Grrm literally has to kill him to free him from Night’s Watch so I don’t see him returning there)
- Epiloge.
***
Well I talked too much about too many things but I hope my answer was not such a bullsh*t :)
Thanks again for the ask. Let me know your thoughts.

My Fanfic Status Updates
Posted WIP:
Everybody Needs Luck - (Star Wars) Obi-Wan travels back in time to his 13 year old body on Melida/Daan and starts changing the galaxy. Time Travel AU. Nield/Cerasi/Obi-Wan, future Jango/Obi-Wan and Cerasi/Satine.
Status: Actively being worked on, have a few new chapters nearly finished. Will probably be getting to a larger time skip soon.
Cuy'kaysh Dar - (Star Wars) Obi-Wan falls on Naboo and flees. Jango sees him fighting Jedi and recruits him to the Cuy'val Dar. Fallen!Obi-Wan AU. Jango/Obi-Wan, Priest/Reau.
Status: Actively being worked on. Have the barebones for a few new chapters.
Biding Time - (Throne of Glass) Dorian's happy ending falls apart and Hollin uses dark magic to send him back in time. Time Travel AU. Valg!Dorian. Many Dorian-centric ships.
Status: Currently just having issues with time constraints because I need to reread the early Manon stuff for the next few chapters and I haven’t yet.
A Dragon in Wolf's Clothing - (ASOIAF) Oberyn's mark fills in--and shows him the true identity of the Bastard of Winterfell, his soulmate. Soulmate AU. Oberyn/Ellaria, future Oberyn/Ellaria/Jon.
Status: Will be trying to get a new chapter or two out soon-ish.
Eventuality - (Game of Thrones) Sequel to Potentiality. Jon and Daenerys die, then wake up in the past in different versions of themselves. Now they face conquering a Westeros very different from the one they so temporarily ruled before. Time Travel AU. Trans!Jon, Genderfluid!Dany. Jonerys.
Status: Currently on the backburner, I don’t want to rush the next few chapters but am not super motivated.
Fire in the Rain - (ASOIAF) Jon brings his girlfriend Sansa home to meet his eccentric (dangerous) family, who still follow ancient Valyrian customs. Modern Westeros AU. Jonsa, Jonerys, Rhaenys/Aegon, others.
Status: I kind of write a little here and there when motivated, so have no idea when a full chapter will be done.
Trinity - (ASOIAF) They loose the War for the Dawn, but Sansa, Arya, and Jon get a second chance. Time Travel AU. Sansa/Elia, Jon/Night's Queen, Robb/Dany.
Status: Omfg I’m so close to being done with this, I’m trying to get motivated to do the last few chapters haha
A Song of Light and Darkness - (ASOIAF) The Targaryens conquered most Westeros with dark magic, now they finally have the key for taking the North. Alternate Fantasy World AU. Many ships.
Status: I’m ngl mostly have updated because it’s one of my friend’s favs. It’s pretty on the backburner right now.
Play the Part of Savior - (ASOIAF) They decide to win the War for the Dawn by stopping the very first one--and Jon ends up back in time in the Bloodstone Emperor's court. Time Travel AU. Bloodstone Emperor/Jon, Bloodstone Emperor/his wife, past Sarella/Jon.
Status: Past me did myself a huge disfavor by skipping a chapter in my draft and not making a note what was supposed to go there, so I’m waiting hoping I’ll remember it.
Broken Pieces Floating By - (ASOIAF) A single night in a haunted house changes Ana’s life forever. Modern Horror AU. Elia/Lyanna, Elia/Rhaegar/Lyanna.
Status: I have a very, very detailed outline for the entire thing, which is a little rare for me, so eventually it will be written.
Cut Strings - (World of Warcraft) Anduin refuses to be a puppet king and instead shakes up the entire political landscape of Westeros. Neutral Stormwind AU. Wranduin, Bainduin, others.
Status: I will probably eventually try to rewrite what I have of this. I was trying to keep it semi-close to canon, but that was before BFA came out and showed us that, yes, it was a boring Sylvanas-is-super-evil plot and not something cool. Now I can just go completely out-there AU with it.
No Peace, No Rest - (World of Warcraft) After Stormwind is destroyed (again), Anduin is taken in by the last people anyone would expect a priest to stay with. BFA AU. Darion/Anduin.
Status: I want to continue this at some point because I love Darion/Anduin and there’s barely any out there and also because I love Anduin and Bolvar being all angsty with their surrogate father-son relationship.
Upcoming Drabbles:
Sequel to my Dark Jangobi Order 66 Drabble - (Star Wars) Obi-Wan resented the Jedi, but he never wanted them to be killed off. And he definitely didn’t want to deal with the fallout of it.
Sequel to my voluntary Integration Obi-Wan Drabble - (Star Wars) Obi-Wan is a model Integrator, which is nervewracking for everyone who knows he was a Jedi.
Sequel to my Mandalorian-from-birth!Obi-Wan Drabble - (Star Wars) Jango’s POV
Requested Soulmate Drabble - (Star Wars) Mandalorians can sense the Mand’alor’s soulmate. It is, of course, Obi-Wan.
Maybe Possibly Upcoming Drabbles:
Terrorist Club AU - (Star Wars) Obi-Wan has a pass to an intergalactic club for terrorists from his time with the Young and he uses it to mess with Vizsla.

Thank you for tagging me @1nsaankahanhai-bkr
Are there any literary parallels between your favourite character and some other character? Yes, actually I think that so many characters have parallels in the  history. Sansa (who is my favorite character) has parallels with Cersei, both dreamed marry a prince when were younger, both had their dreams took away, but Sansa still think is better being loved on the other hand Cersei prefer to be dread. I also like the parallel between Willas (besides he never appeared in the books I like him and I think we can expect a lot from him and Garlan) and Tyrion. Both are smart, and doens’t fit in maculine stadards expected in Westeros, they can’t be knights. But while Twyin is ashamed about his son and doens’t want that Tyrion be the heir, the Tyrells talk proudly about Willas and he still is the heir.
What’s one thing you wished grrm explorer more? The reach, I really wish that we will finally see highgarden in the next book.
Is there a character that fandom loves but you despise(apart from elia’s husband) I don’t like Tyrion, I think the away he treats women is terrible.
Fave non canon pair? Jon and Satin
If you could change one in- verse subplot what would it be? I would leave Quentin alive
What’s the one thing about your character that you can’t stand or find irritating? I wish that Sansa had more confidence in her instintcts, but I believe this is going to happen in the next books
Is there anything that would make you defend your least favourite character?( eg- ragger was not madly in love. He was just mad) Just if Rhaegar was obligated to do what he did, someone very powerful obligated him and he didn’t had choice. But I can’t see this happening in the books.
Favourite Jon ship? (Although he is dead) do you think he will come back? Again Jon and Satin. Yes I think this part is canon in the books too, but I think it’s going to have some differences. I don’t believe that Jon wil come back the same person like in the show, probably he wil be a dark Jon.
Your worst experience with fandom racists? Everything that comes with “She/He is dornish so...”
What do you think of Quentyn/young griff? I like Quentyn, people don’t care so much about him because they think he was stupied and hes not handsome, but I think he is very brave and was only trying to do everything that he could to help his father’s plan, even if wasn’t so smart. About young griff, I don’t know exactly what to think about him. I love his plot and I think is so much better than “Jon Aegon Targaryen” (form me is obvious that they gave this name to Jon in the show only to mix his plot with young Griff even if young Griff isn’t the real Aegon) it makes more sense to see Dany confroting someone who was prepared all the life to be king (what is one of the biggest Dany’s flawers, nodody taught her) and is going to be a great challenge to her. But I still don’t know if I like or not Young Griff I will need to read the next book to have an opinion.
My questions are:
1- We know that the show has a lot of issues, but there is something in the show that you think is better than the books?
2- Which pre-asoiaf history do you like the most?
3- If the show has a reboot what would be your fancast? (you can’t choose the actors that already are in the show)
4- Did you have any bad experience with fandom misoginy?
5- Have you ever read a fanfic that you thought it was better than the canon? If yes, how was the plot?
6- If you could change a character gender what character could be and why?
7- If you could choose one character to win a book solo only about his/her story what character would you choose and why?
8- If you were the Queen/King which character would you choose to be your hand? Your motivations are friendship or strategy?
9- Besides Sansa, Catelyn and Elia which other character do you think it is unfairly hated or despised?
10- If you could change only one thing in the books what could be and why?

Why Reading ASOIAF Made Me Dislike Game of Thrones- An Open Letter to David Benioff and D. B. Weiss
Hey dudes. Your show sucks.
Since October, 2016, when I decided to start watching Game of Thrones, I have been slowly reading the book series you are adapting it from: George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, which is a fantasy series that sets out to examine the genre of fantasy itself, humanity, morality, ethics, climate change, and our collective reality through the lens of morally grey, intelligent characters, living in a medieval fantasy world fifteen years after a two year long civil war called Robert’s Rebellion rocked the core of the continent/country of Westeros, some of whom are self-aware, some of whom are really, really not.
There. That’s the spoiler-free series summary.
It didn’t occur to me while I was reading book one, it niggled in the back of my head while I was reading book two, but it stuck with me while I was reading book three, A Storm of Swords, the very simple thought that yo.
Your show is far. Far. FAR worse than the books you set out to adapt.
People go up to me and ask “What are you reading, Vi?” because that’s how you start a conversation with someone who doesn’t want to talk to you. I show them the book title, they see the banner at the top reading “GAME OF THRONES- A NEW ORIGINAL SERIES FROM HBO” and say, predictably, unfailingly, “Oh, Game of Thrones!” and I have to take the time to put the old, worn receipt I use as a book mark in my place to inform the uninformed, “The books are a hundred thousand times better than the show. And that’s not even me being a book snob. Read the books, don’t watch the show.” You don’t know how exhausting that is.
You will find no shortage of people on this site who are fans of the books and/or your TV show. Many criticize you, many criticize GRRM, some unrepentantly  scream into the Void that you and/or GRRM are God, and deserving of nothing but veneration, unquestioning love, and sainthood. I have reblogged and liked posts from all three sorts of people. Never doubt that I enjoy both stories. Your television series has some really good acting, plenty of nice aesthetics, and some damn nice costumes.
And yet, I vastly prefer the books. Reading the books, reading metas about the books, reading fanfiction about the books, reading metas about the show, and seeing the general discourse in both fandoms has all brought me to the conclusion that I prefer GRRM’s story.
Lady Stoneheart and Young Griff are the two major storylines that you cut out in your book-to-screen adaptation, to the utter detriment of your show, and the fact that you removed them tells me a lot about what you do and do not understand about ASOIAF.
Lady Stoneheart, the reanimated corpse of the late Catelyn Tully Stark, is a character only introduced in the epilogue of A Storm of Swords, and I can understand why, at first glance, you would think that your decision to cut out her narrative is acceptable. You murdered Catelyn’s story within her own story, after-all. You forgot that Robb is not the center of the Northern Rebellion; Catelyn is. She is the eyes and ears, and it is her mistakes that both start the war, end it, and prolong it.
Lady Stoneheart’s story effects Brienne of Tarth’s story, and Jaime Lannister’s story, and GRRM’s examination of knighthood, honor, redemption and loyalty through them. It relates to Gendry, Sandor Clegane, and Podrick Payne, and their themes of loss of identity, as well as Sandor’s themes of redemption and mercy. LSH’s own actions work to the detriment of her daughter Sansa, and the themes of her story mirror and accentuate those of her younger daughter, Arya, whose story is about psychological trauma, justice, mercy, death, and why you should not join death cults. By cutting out Lady Stoneheart, Sansa’s story becomes that of her poor, forgotten friend, Jeyne Poole, and Arya becomes a terrorist instead of a girl struggling to find her identity and wander home.
Lady Stoneheart, in GRRM’s broader examination of the genre of fantasy, is an examination of the trope of the reanimated dead. Catelyn is resurrected as LSH after three days of slowly decomposing in a river, her torn cheeks and slashed throat still draining blood. When Beric Dondarrion sacrifices herself to save her (yes, Beric is dead in the books) he does not bring back the loving mother who knew the name of every stablehand in Winterfell, he brings back the screaming woman who “clawed her face to bloody ribbons” when she witnesses her last living child die before her eyes. He brings back a demon, intent on bringing death to anyone she views as remotely related to those who have done her wrong. This is GRRM’s examination of why people don’t just come back from death. They are changed, they are different, they are a bit mad. LSH is a zombie, every bit as much as the wights, she’s just a zombie forged of the other end of the spectrum: fire.
Aegon VI Targaryen, or “Young Griff” is the perfect prince. He is introduced during the fifth book, even later than Lady Stoneheart. You would think exempting him would be even more acceptable, and yet, once again, you would be wrong.
Young Griff’s story relates to Arianne Martell, another character who is utterly cut out of the television show, as well as to the Sand Snakes and their plot with Myrcella Baratheon, who they were intending to crown as queen, not murder. Young Griff, by extension, relates to Doran Martell and poor, poor Quentyn Martell, and to Daenerys Targaryen, Ashara Dayne, Varys, Illyrio Mopatis, and, crucially, CRUCIALLY, Tyrion Lannister, who has become a background character ever since his escape from King’s Landing in Season Four. Young Griff is planning on invading Westeros using the Golden Company, which will probably effect the remainder of Arya’s stint in Braavos before she runs into Jeyne Poole and Justin Massey, and the actual invasion will greatly affect Brienne of Tarth because of where the island of Tarth is located. Brienne is her father Selwyn’s only heir, and he’s probably going to die before the end of TWOW, leaving Brienne as the Evenstar.
In GRRM’s broader discourse, Young Griff’s role, as @poorquentyn talks about quite a bit in his metas, is to deconstruct the fantasy genre as a whole. Young Griff is the Perfect Prince in exile, Varys’s guaranteed A+ Political Science thesis project, complete with badass army, misfit mentors, sassy nun, and a hot future wife waiting for him. And yet, Young Griff is actually a tragedy because he is not Aegon VI Targaryen, he is not the Once and Future King, he is not the savior, he is not Rhaegar Targaryen and Elia Martell’s son. Young Griff is most likely the biological son of the hedonistic pedophiliac opportunistic Illyrio Mopatis, and a kid who would have been content to sail up and down the Rhoyne with his motley crew for the rest of his life, but no, he was told that he is the only living child of Rhaegar Targaryen, the heir to the Iron Throne. GRRM uses Young Griff to explain Dany’s story and Jon’s story. Don’t you see how unsatisfying it would have been, he asks, if Jon had been Young Griff? Don’t you see how much more interesting Jon’s story is with Val and Ygritte and Sam and Gilly and Monster and Mance and Donal Noye and Satin and Craster? Don’t you see how much better fantasy can be?
You see, my good sirs, you have missed the entire point of ASOIAF in your hit television show: what can fantasy be?
Arya does not have to be merely the plucky tomboy, an assassin with a sad backstory who Is Not Like Other Girls. Arya can be the plucky tomboy who looks up to her mother, is jealous of her sister, and is abused by her teacher. Arya can be a girl who admires other women, who wishes she were pretty, who loves to learn languages and is good at math. She can be the girl who wargs into Nymeria and the cats of Braavos, who leaves Sandor Clegane to die because he would not let her kill herself trying to save her mother.
Jon Snow does not have to be merely the Male Action Hero Who Will Save the Day and Get the Hot Chick. Jon can be a flawed man, too young, too brilliant, too radical, too kind to live. He can be the adopted son of a good man, he can be intelligent and still make mistakes, he can be kind and still show Gilly profound cruelty, he can be a leader and be best at leading when he is negotiating marriages and panes of glass and who works where when. He can be impartial to who sits the Iron Throne and still get himself killed for loving his baby sister too desperately. He can be a good leader, and still be killed. Jon is not important because he is Rhaegar’s son, he is not important because he is the Ice to Dany’s Fire; he is important because he is Aragorn’s Tax Plan.
D. B. Weiss and David Benioff, your story fails in the face of the might that is ASOIAF because your story fails to be profound. Your story fails to contribute anything to The Great Struggle. Your story fails to innovate, your story fails to evolve. Your story fails to understand the core of its own characters, it fails to understand its own themes and messages.
Your story fails because it is not a compelling story.
I hope you are capable of understanding that.
Best Wishes,
A Teenage Girl Who You Can Call Vi

The Royal Apartments
Because I felt like it.
“Not everything is finished yet, of course. The queen--- I mean, Queen Daenerys---” Lady Marya blushes. Sansa tears her eyes from the curtains--- silver-blue satin dotted with snowflake lace appliques --- to the apple-cheeked older woman.
“---It’s alright, you know,” Sansa says gently, “The wedding is still weeks away. Her Grace is and was still ‘the queen’ until then.”
Jon frowns slightly when she says this, but doesn’t argue. How can he? Daenerys can still be felt throughout King’s Landing, and not just because the court and city still has a week left in its year-long mourning period.
These chambers are a perfect example. Last time Sansa had been in these rooms, it was all shining crimson, glittering gold, russet walls, and ruby-studded finery. The wealth and the daughter of Casterly Rock. Not so now.
The late ruler had been an unquenchably active and adventurous sort --- the personality that had made her a hero, conqueror, and dragon rider. A woman with such a lust for action rose enough eyebrows on a normal day, but things changed entirely when she finally fell pregnant. During her prior, unsuccessful pregnancies, she’d kept riding both horses and dragons. But after nearly a decade of stillbirths and miscarriages, she’d finally adhered to the wishes of the maesters and midwives, kept off the saddle and to the castle, even going into a confinement of sorts.
By all accounts, it drove Daenerys nearly mad with boredom, and she complained of feeling like a prisoner. To distract herself and, possibly, to keep herself convinced of her power by altering the “prison” around her, she moved her confinement to Dragonstone and undertook a massive remodeling and renovation of the Red Keep. Admittedly, the palace was in need of alterations and repairs, but Daenerys was practically rebuilding the royal seat.
Half of the palace’s walls are still lined with bars and scaffolding, and at the time of her death, half were actually torn down. Jon described it as “Harrenhal, dyed scarlet” in his first letter home. Maegor’s Holdfast hadn’t been spared, certainly. The only chamber of the palace that wasn’t touched was the throne room (but then, it had been renovated to replace the Lannister and Baratheon sigils with the three-headed dragon of House Targaryen years prior anyways).
All of it certainly included these rooms: the ones that had been occupied by royal consorts since Good Queen Alysanne. One of the quirks of Daenerys’s massive remodeling was ordering that every door be painted bright scarlet with black, white, or gold frames for every outer side, and that all the interior walls be painted and/or paneled with any color but red to make the doors stand out. The Red Keep, everyone joked, became a lot less red.
Prince Aegon, Daenerys’s dragonseed consort, had asked that his rooms be paneled with pure, white alabaster with gold moldings. Even the queen had bristled at such extravagance, and only relented after months of argument. When she died in childbirth, only half the proper amount of alabaster had arrived from the suppliers, and both Jon and Lord Tyrion were quick to both cancel the rest of the orders for the Prince Consort’s apartments and “persuade” him to “retire” to his “Cousin” Princess Arianne’s estate of the Water Gardens with a generous pension.
When Jon took the throne, though, nearly the whole Red Keep, including most of the royal apartments, were uninhabitable and renovations had to continue. He had traveled south intending to fulfill the quick obligation of witnessing the birth of and swearing the proper oaths to the infant who would replace him as heir to the Iron Throne and found himself chained not only to the fate of monarchy, but the massive reconstruction of the royal seat his aunt had begun.
Sansa suspects that one of the reasons Jon insisted on such a long mourning period for his predecessor was to have an excuse to keep the royal court as frugal as possible while he reconstructed most of the Red Keep.
Not that Sansa exactly resents Daenerys for her architectural mania. She’s spent the last decade as Rickon’s regent, tasked with, among other things, rebuilding and restoring her ancestral home in the wake of the wars and winter. Despite the difficulty of the undertaking, Sansa herself had discovered the appeal of such work and developed a genuine passion for it. While she never became a member of the cult of the Mother of Dragons, she is sympathetic to Daenerys’s interest here. It also doesn’t hurt that Sansa herself possesses so many bad memories of this place as it was before. A literal change of scenery makes the transition easier.
Though Jon had canceled all annual festivals and banquets in King’s Landing for a year and insisted his courtier keep modest staff and dine on simple, modest meals, there was one thing he didn’t take a miser’s approach to: the care and comfort of his queen-to-be.
His aunt, though reasonable in many ways, always viewed both her nephew and his relations (the progeny of the very people who put Robert the Usurper on her father’s throne) as threats. She’d managed to neutralize her “other nephew”, “Aegon”, by marrying him, but Jon refused to become her second consort. Though she was willing to let him settle with his Stark cousins under the guise of serving as Rickon’s co-regent with Sansa, she downright refused to grant Jon and Sansa permission to wed. Or, rather, she refused to let them marry until after she’d replaced Jon with a child of her own.
Possessing absolutely no interest in the Iron Throne, both Jon and Sansa anticipated the birth of Daenerys’s first child nearly as much as the queen herself. The two fell passionately in love during the first year of the War of the Dawn. A prince or princess would give them the chance to finally, at long last, start the lives and family they’d yearned for since they were children. So when Jon departed for the South during Daenerys’s seventh month, it was with utter delight over the promises of a cozy domestic future in their childhood home.
The thing about Sansa’s lover is that he doesn’t take anything for granted anymore. Despite limitless, lofty opportunities to marry well, she’s never once considered forsaking Jon for them. Jon told her over the years that she was not bound to him, and, as the years got longer, even encouraged her to give up and pursue the life she deserved. At various points since she left King’s Landing, Sansa’s had chances to become the Lady of the Vale, Lady of Highgarden, Lady of Casterly Rock, Lady of the Stormlands, a princess of Dorne, Lady of Hightower, Horn Hill, Harrenhal, Seagard, Greywater Watch, Rosby, Lannisport, Darry, Starfall, and Driftmark. Even high-ranking merchant princes and lords from the Free Cities sent proposals. She preferred to wait for Jon.
“Any life with you, married or not, is more appealing than loftiest match in the world,” she told him.
Ironically, though, Jon becoming the loftiest match in the world was the thing that nearly caused her to reconsider (if only for half a second). If there was one thing she did not want, it was everything she’d dreamed of when she was eleven. She does not want a crown, does not want to be here, does not want to operate within the court that killed her father.
Sansa may never have loved Daenerys Targaryen, but when word came that the queen had died, she’d crumpled to the floor in tears. Her dreams died with the Mother of Dragons.
Of course, she made herself alter her dreams almost immediately. And though she was still determined to remain at Winterfell as Rickon’s regent until he reached his sixteenth Name Day, one of her first actions was to write to Jon assuring him of her continued devotion.
Jon hasn’t taken that lightly. And indeed, as his reign progressed, he seemed to become even more enamoured of her. During their separation, their letters were lengthy and passionate, and he made no secret of how much he relied on both her advice and the prospect of their eventual marriage.
He also insisted to Sansa that she could and would have every luxury and comfort her heart might desire. “I insist on only one thing as both your king and future husband,” he’d written, “And that is that you go a single moment unpampered for the rest of your life. Whatever you want, you are not to hesitate to ask for. No jewel is too large, no silk is too fine, that you cannot have it.”
It amused them both, though Jon turned out to be surprisingly sincere about this. One of his first acts as king was declaring that he’d wed Sansa Stark in a year’s time, and he sent a raven to every Keep in Westeros so everyone knew. A few weeks following Daenerys’s death, a line of carts carrying fine furs, fabric, and lemons arrived at Winterfell’s gates. Two months later, a group of jewelers and goldsmiths arrived with a cart containing assort precious stones and metals to craft her a suite of jewelry customized to her preferences.
When Sansa asked for copies of Daenerys’s plans for the Red Keep, Jon didn’t hesitate to send her the blueprints and grant her request to help oversee the rest of the renovations. Since, she’s corresponded with every person involved with remodeling the Red Keep and guided it all.
Sansa’s made many, more prudent, less costly changes to her predecessor’s plans, but she’s done her best to preserve some things from the Dragon Queen’s work. The lemon tree orchard outside the royal apartments, for instance, and all the red doors.
Half of Aegon’s alabaster had arrived when Daenerys passed, and was bought and paid for (and, as the suppliers had happily reminded the royal household, was non-refundable). Sansa cancelled the other half, but decided to use the panels they had. The lower half of the walls of her new apartments are paneled with burnished walnut while the upper half bears the alabaster paneling. Instead of gold moldings, however, she’s settled for more wood ornately carved and accented with silver paint, and had a few tapestries and paintings from the royal collection and home hung.
The furniture is walnut as well, richly carved, but no precious metal moldings. The draperies --- the inlaid cushions, the curtains, the tablecloths, and the pillows --- are fine linen, mostly ivory, some grey. Some of the pillow covers she embroidered herself, with direwolves, snowflakes, and interlocking initials of J and S in silver, white, icy blue, and dove-grey.
The copper-colored walls, plush scarlet samites, and gold-plated, jewel-studded furniture and ornaments are gone. The ruby-eyed lions that seemed to roar at her from every corner, cup, candlestick, and armrest, have been banished.
Despite all the changes she’s ordered, though, she still sees the rooms that once belonged to Cersei Lannister. This is still the solar the maids brought her too after her first flowering. That’s still the archway the queen had leaned against as she scoffed at Sansa’s dreams of magic. This is still the floor Sansa had stared at as she was ushered in, wrapped in that borrowed robe, half expecting to find Joffrey waiting for her to force his son into her. These are still the same high ceilings that caused Cersei’s cruel laughter to echo.
If the Dragon Queen hadn’t acquired such an obsession with changing the palace, there would probably be far more reminders, though.
Jon watches her anxiously. When Sansa asked to be given the responsibility of guiding the remodeling of the palace, his only condition had been that the first thing she tackled was designing her ideal living quarters. But, granted, only so much could be communicated through letters, sketches, and sample selections.
He doesn’t want her to simply tell him whatever she thinks he wants to hear. Jon knows how to tell the difference between that and sincere approval. He will only be satisfied with the latter. Sansa looks into his eyes and her heart aches. He appears both anxious and exhausted.
As far as he’s come, she thinks, part of him is still that bastard boy eager to prove himself. These rooms mean far more to him than they do to her. Jon knows she’d happily live in a hut made of twigs and mud with him --- that in some ways, she’d prefer that to this. She doesn’t want to be queen. She doesn’t want to be back. And she doesn’t have to be. This is a sacrifice for both of them, one she is under no obligation to make.
Jon has to be king, and if he has to be king, he wants to make sure his lady love is provided every comfort and delight to ease the difficulty of returning to her former prison. He wants to give her everything her disapproving mother could have wanted for her. He wants to make this her home, because if it’s hers, it can be his. He’s been waiting over a year for her smiles.
True smiles, not polite ones.
So Sansa crosses the solar and inspects things as her staff files into unpack her luggage. She evaluates the carvings of the wood, the plushness of the pillows and the sofa. She takes the curtains in hand to look at the details of the lace snowflakes against the icy satin. She runs her hand along the new mantle and across the surface of the dining table.
As she expected, everything is perfect, gorgeous, intricate, sturdy, lovely. Literally beyond complaint or doubt. But a verdict based on faith would not satisfy Jon. Sansa pauses at a window to view the deck and the lemon tree orchard (the one Daenerys wanted so badly) beyond. Her heart flutters. Reluctantly, she turns away to enter the bedchamber.
The bed is so beautiful she might swear it is enchanted. The curtains are belted to the four posters with silver chord and the silk of the canopy is so fine that it appears almost liquid. The headboard is painted with a scene of the Winterfell godswood. Sansa cannot resist running her hand along the white satin bedspread, embroidered with silver direwolves running along the edge and, at the center of the cloth, silver thread forming an S wrapped about a J.
The dressing table, end tables, and bureau are weirwood, with stained glass scarlet leaves framing the mirror and forming the handles of the drawers and doors. A marble washstand sits in a corner, accented with silver. The door to the balcony has a knob that looks like a weirwood leaf. In a fair corner, there is a platform with an immense marble tub. When Sansa sees this, she looks at Jon in surprise. She hadn’t ordered such a thing. He blushes.
“Daenerys and Aegon were already having it built. By the time I got here, it would have cost more to remove than to complete. I thought it would be a nice surprise.”
There’s a dressing chamber as well, with an immense, three-way looking glass, a tailoring platform, special shelves and cases built into the walls, and hooks and racks for gowns and shoes. Certain cabinets are padlocked, clearly intended for jewelry. When her maids see it all, they squeal with delight, thrilled at using it all in their duties, and begin opening every unlocked door and cabinet.
Overcome, Sansa interrupts them. “Lara, Melia, Morgan, Lady Marya… I hope you don’t mind, but would you focus on assembling things in the other chambers for now? I’d like to speak to the king alone.”
The other women all exchange knowing glances and file out. Sansa goes to shut the door behind them, then leans back against it, trying to regain her breath.
“...Well?”
She looks up at him. “Please, by the Old Gods and New, tell me that most of this was either already here or Daenerys’s fault.”
Jon holds a hand to his heart. “I swear it. Nearly everything in this room was either put in by Maegor, or came from Daenerys’s rooms. Some of the shelves here were literally torn from the walls of my rooms and re-installed here. And the tub… it’s modeled on the baths in the eastern manses that Daenerys used to stay in. The mirror has been here since Good Queen Alysanne. The bed, dressing table, and washstand were brought in from the Maidenvault and repainted and molded. The upholstery, drapes, and linens are all new, of course. And the mattress. But I promise that we kept to the budget you dictated. It’s not half as expensive as it looks. You don’t have to hate either of us. The new armoury cost five times as much.”
“Jon, if I find out you’re lying---”
“---Ask Tyrion to show you the ledgers if you want!”
She smiles, relieved. Tyrion would know better than to show her false ones, even if Jon ordered it. Her former husband has been terrified of her ever since he learned about what happened to Littlefinger.
Not even her future husband is as frightened of Sansa as her former one.
“...So?”
She answers him by throwing herself into his arms and peppering his face and neck with kisses. “It looks like a literal enchanted fairy-world!”
He laughs, wrapping his arms about her, lifting her and twirling her around. “Well, you look like an enchanted fairy.”
Sansa snorts. “Stop it. I’m still in my travel-clothes! I’m all sweaty and dusty!”
“Sweaty, dusty, and still beautiful beyond words. I’ve seen you in old, patched-up wool,” he reminds her, “With your hair matted about your scalp and your skin reddened by the cold and wind, skinny as a rail, lips chapped and dark circles about your eyes---”
“---Don’t remind me!” She shudders at the thought of the war years. Even she lacked the time or energy to maintain a ladylike appearance back then.
“---And I still couldn’t look away, you were so beautiful. And you’ve only grown lovelier with each passing day. When I first saw you come through the city gates today I nearly fell off of my saddle.” He runs his fingers through her hair and groans. “I’ve been waiting to do that for over a year. Along with a thousand other things. Like this…”
His mouth seizes hers. Their lips part and their tongues dance together. He tastes even better than she remembers. He’d kissed her when they greeted each other, but it had been a chaste thing, appropriate viewing for the crowds that surrounded them. This, though, is decidedly not. Deliciously not.
For a short while, within the walls of Maegor’s Holdfast, Jon does what a thousand beautiful rooms cannot do and brings her home again.
They only part when their lungs demand it. Sansa rests her cheek upon his shoulder, inhaling his scent as she regains her breath. “My Love…”
“What, Sweetling?” He gasps.
“As wonderful as my new bed is, I don’t think I can stand to sleep in it alone.”
She feels his posture shift and he pushes her back gently so their eyes meet, his gaze searching.
“But we’re not…”
In all these years, they still haven’t taken this step. But Sansa’s done. She’s sick of waiting. She spent countless lonely nights in this place. No more. Gently, she cups his cheek. “At this point, it’s just a matter of a few words and a big, stupid party mostly attended by strangers. It was one thing when we were waiting for your aunt, and a mistake could result in a rain of dragon fire. It was one thing when we had to keep Rickon safe and so much was still uncertain. But now nearly everything has been decided for us and we can’t go back. You’re king. And maybe I’m not quite queen yet----”
His grip on her shoulder tightens. “You are as far as I’m concerned!”
She grins. “Then what is stopping us. You’ve literally made our bed. So let’s lie in it. Besides, according to the plans you sent me…”
Sansa pulls away and makes her way to one of the bigger closets. She opens it, runs her hand along the back wall, smiles when she feels the latch, and turns to Jon as the hidden door swings open. “Leads right to the King’s study. Jaehaerys and Alysanne liked their privacy. I kept that in mind when I designed your rooms, too.”
Jon groans again. “Seven fucking HELLS I’ve missed you!”

ASoIaF survey
stealing this from @housecreepy because I, like them, have been kind of out of the loop with ASoIaF fandom compared to how it used to be
Favourites;;
FAVOURITE MAJOR HOUSE:   Lannistark? FAVOURITE MINOR HOUSE:   not sure I have one, my house preferences are really mild tbh LEAST FAVOURITE MAJOR HOUSE: Tyrell? LEAST FAVOURITE MINOR HOUSE: I’ll pass THREE THEORIES YOU BELIEVE IN & ENJOY:  Penny is Tyrion’s daughter, Jaime is the Valonqar, aaand Theon is an unreliable narrator in ADwD because he is dissociating and having blackouts THREE THEORIES YOU BELIEVE IN & HATE: can’t think of one, if I can see a theory as plausible I generally embrace it even if it’s not the most pleasing outcome for me. FAVOURITE BOOK:   ASoS probably, though I could make a case for AFFC and ADWD conjoined FAVOURITE PREQUEL BOOK:  I only ever read the Hedge Knight graphic novel THREE FAVOURITE FEMALE CHARACTERS:   Brienne, Sansa, Cersei THREE FAVOURITE MALE CHARACTERS: Jaime, Varys, motherfucking Bronn probably. My most problematic-est fave THREE LEAST FAVOURITE CHARACTERS: I hope Randyll Tarly dies in a fire :)))) THREE MOST UNDERRATED FEMALE CHARACTERS: all those that in spite of creating centuries long family trees and describing every single course in a feast GRRM failed to find a name for :))))) THREE MOST UNDERRATED MALE CHARACTERS:  Samwell Tarly, Podrick Payne, Satin THREE FAVOURITE SHIPS:    Jaime/Brienne rules, I also like Jaime/Cersei and Ned/Catelyn but in a much milder way THREE LEAST FAVOURITE SHIPS:  the thought of Jon/Dany bores me to death but tbh that’s the ship casuals go for? I don’t think hardcore fans give it much attention. Idk I’ve gotten good at just ignoring ships that don’t do it for me. THREE OVERRATED SHIPS: Every ship is overrated when you glorify it so much you feel the need to put down others. Go walk children in nature, I don’t need that kind of negativity THREE UNDERRATED SHIPS: I wish more people saw the beauty of my favorite crackship, that would be Catelyn/Bronn :’(
