AO3
He smiled.
His sword sliced between the man's ribs.
And he smiled.
"Killian?"
Killian jerked from the memory—the horrible memory—the bloody worst thing he's ever done—from seeing the man—David's father—Emma's grandfather—die at his feet—at his hand—
—and he'd smiled—
"Killian!"
Killian jerked again, this time seeing Emma standing in front of him, her hands on his face, making him look at her, where they stood outside the door of her parents' loft.
"It's okay," said Emma softly. "We will get through this."
Killian swallowed hard, his heart hammering in his chest, his black, dead, cold heart, very much doubting that they would make it through this.
He's only gotten back from the mess with Gideon, from his return to Neverland and his very-near death. Emma's parents' Sleeping Curse has been broken for two days now, but they haven't seen them since.
The moment David had seen Killian again…
David and Snow both awake now, embraced their daughter together, pulling Henry in with them as well. Killian had stood unsure behind them. Emma had told him that David knew about his sin—what he'd done to David's father.
When David pulled away from his daughter, his eyes bright, his smile wide for his family, he then looked at Killian for the first time since the night he'd given Killian his blessing to marry his daughter.
David's eyes locked on his, and Killian stopped breathing.
The prince left his family to approach Killian, stopping in front of him.
"Ma—" began Killian, stopping himself from 'mate,' something he hasn't censored since Neverland. "D-David," he began unsteadily. "I… I can't even begin to tell you how sor—"
His words were sharply cut off when David's fist connected with his cheek, sending him crashing to the floor in surprise.
By the time Emma had helped him up, David was already gone.
The bruise on Killian's cheek was gone now, healed by Emma's magic, something Killian had asked her not to do.
He deserved the pain.
And he deserved the scar of it.
Hell, he deserved David's sword through his own ribs.
(Again.)
Despite Emma and Snow's attempts to get David and him in the same room, David hadn't gone anywhere near him ever since.
On this specific occasion, Emma and Snow have secretly planned for him to stop by, not telling David to avoid him leaving. But, in Emma's words, they were planning to "lock them both in the same room until they work this out with magic if they had to".
"You can do this," encouraged Emma softly, her fingers in his, and Killian still couldn't believe that he had her forgiveness.
He had everyone's except David, which was shocking to him in its own right.
But if he could have anyone's right now, it was David.
The man who had slowly become a friend, a brother, and now… nearly a father-in-law. (He tried not to think about the strangeness of that). He'd take strange.
He just wanted David back.
So, Emma knocked on the door, and it opened quickly, revealing Snow. She gave Killian a pitied smile. "Come in," she said softly.
They did, Emma having to tug Killian along.
Just as David got up from the couch, and froze.
His lax expression immediately hardened, a contempt aimed at Killian that hasn't been in his eyes since Neverland.
"What the hell is he doing here?" demanded David, shooting an accusing look at his wife and daughter, whom both winced.
"David," said Snow in a soft chastisement, yet still gentle. "I know you're hurting, and I know… I know what Killian's done is…" Killian flinched. "But… he's changed, and we've seen him change…"
"He saved your life in Neverland," Emma reminded him, something that both men revealed over a dinner months ago. "He saved all of us, he died for us," she said, voice choking up at that, "and he's so sorry—"
Killian felt the muscle in his jaw twitch, needing to speak for himself. Despite how much he appreciated their help. "David," he said, eyes burning. "I am… I can't even… I am so sorry," his voice choked. "I… I was… I wasn't m-myself back then. I was a… monster. A… villain," he said, the word sending a shiver down his spine. "And I… if I could take it back, I would in a bloody second—"
"Well," David cut him off. "You can't."
With that, he shoved past Killian, grabbing the door and slamming it shut.
"Dav—" began Snow, about to go after him, but Killian held up his hand to stop her.
He opened the door, rushing after David.
He found him walking swiftly down the sidewalk, his silhouette only lit by the moon and the stars, and Killian called, "David!"
David kept walking.
"David, please!"
Killian took David's arm to stop him, only for David to turn sharply toward him with a scowl, and Killian winced, stepping back.
"David," stressed Killian, every bit of regret that was killing him coming out, roughing his voice. "I am so bloody sorry," he choked out, a tear burning down his cheek. Because the worst thing he's ever done, he's done to his very best friend.
"Really?" asked David, whirling on him, eyes filled with anger and pain. "Were you sorry when you assisted me in finding the monster," he ground out, making Killian's eyes burn, "who killed my father? Trying to convince me to stop looking because he was standing right next to me?"
"I told you," stressed Killian, face breaking with the utter pain making him want to explode. "I didn't realize that I—" He couldn't even say it. "I didn't realize it until afterward, until August gave me that damn page—" He shut his eyes, letting out a defeated breath. "David, I swear to you, I have never regretted anything more than what I did to your father." Another tear burned down his cheek. "I was… I was a monster," he admitted, the words burning through his lips. "I… I wasn't myself, I… I didn't… I—" He remembered that phase, that… condition he was in. Ruled by pain and darkness and misery, and…. Emptiness. He didn't even feel like a person. "I just… I just wish you could see it from my perspective," he whispered brokenly.
"What do you want from me?" snapped David coldly.
"I… I want you to tell me what I can do to earn your forgiveness," breathed Killian, another tear burning down his cheek.
"You can't."
With that, David turned and walked away, leaving Killian frozen to the ground, feeling like he was hit with something so much more painful than David's fist.
It was hours before Killian went home, finding Emma having waited up for him on the couch.
She opened her mouth to ask something, but at his face, closed it, mirroring his sadness.
She embraced him anyway, promising him that David would come around.
They retired to their bedroom not long after, and Killian shut his eyes.
Just as he began to drift into a restless sleep, he felt something shift in his chest.
But he was asleep before he could question what it was.
-.-.
Killian felt himself wake slowly, reminded of the days as Captain Hook, where every day was just another day without color.
He sighed, wondering how the hell he was supposed to fix this with David.
He lifted his left arm to prop himself up to get out of bed, only to realize that he felt something he hasn't experienced in centuries.
For years after losing his left hand, he would still almost feel his fingers, even if they weren't there.
But…
He hasn't felt his phantom hand in ages.
So why…?
He opened his eyes, looking down, wondering if he went to bed with his hook again.
Except…
His hook wasn't there.
Neither was his brace.
Instead…
There was a hand.
He stared in shock.
He shook himself; he must still be dreaming.
But… this didn't feel like a dream.
He lifted his right hand, staring at two hands.
What…?
He closed both hands.
The fingers listened.
Two hands.
But… that wasn't all.
He suddenly realized something else wrong.
He was in Emma's parents' loft.
No—worse.
In her parents' bed.
Killian jerked out of the bed, whirling around, terrified to see Snow or David.
But the bed was empty except for him.
The whole apartment was, in fact.
He breathed out in relief.
Killian was also wearing… David's bedtime wear?
His heart pounded. "What the bloody—"
But he froze.
That wasn't his voice.
It wasn't even his accent.
It actually sounded like…
He couldn't breathe.
Killian all but ran to the bathroom.
Shutting his eyes, he winced, then opened his eyes in front of the mirror.
He felt his jaw drop.
But not his jaw.
Because staring back at him, his own bloody reflection, was David.
-.-.
David groaned.
His head pounded.
His brow furrowed with the pain, the awful ache behind his eyes that he didn't think he'd drunk enough to cause. He breathed slow, trying to quell the sudden rush of nausea, but it passed after a few breaths.
Perhaps it wasn't alcohol—it also could have been stress, as Snow seemed to go on and on about how much stress he'd been putting himself under, especially while they'd been under the shared Sleeping Curse. That mixed with Emma's—thankfully sidestepped—fate and everything about his father...
Familiar, stark anger rose under his skin, remembering the conversation with Hook from last night.
Hook.
He could hardly even picture the man without feeling a blinding hatred. Someone he nearly treated as a brother, as his closest friend, had killed his father. His good, innocent, finally decent father. He had ruined his father's chance at redemption, ended his life in cold blood and left David and his mother with unbearable pain that never, ever truly left either of them.
And now?
Now, Hook was going to become his son-in-law.
His practical son, who had murdered his father.
Murdered Emma's grandfather.
Her grandfather, whom she could have met if it hadn't been for Hook.
And his father would never see justice from the cold-hearted, soulless pirate his daughter had so unfortunately fallen in love with. And how she, and her mother, could still look at Hook, after what he'd done?
David groaned again, his hand rubbing at his eyes, where the intense throbbing was at its worst.
He must have woken Snow, because a hand was suddenly gently on his face, thumb brushing over his skin. David smiled a little at Snow's touch.
"You okay?"
David's eyes snapped open.
That wasn't Snow's voice.
That was Emma.
His heart suddenly pounding in his chest, he blinked at the unfamiliar ceiling.
He wasn't in bed with Snow.
He was in bed with Emma.
Which meant…
That hand on his face…
Horrible, terrible, wrong panic shot through him.
"What's wrong?" came Emma's voice again, and David turned his head, eyes flying wide. Emma was lying in the bed next to him, her hand still on his face with a touch that was far too tender for a father and daughter.
That cold panic ran through his entire body.
He was in bed with his daughter.
Why the hell was he in bed with his daughter?
She was staring at him with rich concern, like there was something wrong with him, a sort of lovingness in her eyes that should not be directed at her father.
He was in bed.
With his daughter.
In bed.
No.
Nonononono—he wasn't even going there. There was no way. He—something must have happened last night, he got drunk or injured—head injury, it had to be—no, he must have just been closer to Emma's house than home, and… and, they let him sleep it off… or… something...
But damn it, it did not explain the fact that his daughter was leaning over to kiss him.
David jerked away, moving quickly away from her before she could.
Stark hurt gleaned in Emma's eyes at his recoil. She reached for his face again, but he flinched back. "I don't understand," she whispered, voice hurt. "Did I do something? What's wrong?"
Everything.
"Killian?"
That gave him pause.
Panic rushing to a halt, absolute confusion filling its place, David asked, "Why did you just call me—"
He froze.
His voice.
That wasn't his voice.
He didn't have an accent.
Trying to sit up, because something was horribly, horribly wrong, David faltered, his left hand for whatever reason having gone completely numb. Had he slept on it? He looked down, intending to shake feeling back into it.
His heart stopped.
His hand was gone.
His arm simply… ended.
Fear and shock flooded him.
"Killian…?"
Holy lord.
Shock widening his eyes even more with the sudden horrible understanding, he turned a bewildered gaze onto Emma. She was looking at him with nothing short of fearful concern. She saw him stare in shock at his—at Hook's—left arm, and her brows kneaded with sad understanding. She suddenly touched his left arm, fingers feather-light where the wrist ended in a stump. "Did you dream about it again?" she whispered.
David blinked.
He was Hook.
This can't be happening.
"Do you want to talk about it?" asked Emma, now concerned for a different reason. From her tone of voice, this wasn't an uncommon topic for first thing in the morning.
David shook himself.
He was in Hook's body.
He was in Hook's body.
Emma reached for him again, and David reflexively began to move away but Emma's cell phone suddenly rang from the nightstand. She looked from David to her ringing phone, and with a slightly apologetic look she sat up and answered it.
David blinked, trying to figure out how the hell to explain this to Emma.
"What?"
David looked at Emma, seeing her brows shoot up.
"Um, okay," said Emma, biting her lip. "Weird." She sighed. "I'm sure it's fine… Yeah, let me know," she said, and hung up the phone. Looking at David, she said, "That was my mom."
Putting the whole trapped-in-a-pirate's-body thing aside for half a second, David felt fear shoot through him. "Snow? Is she all right?"
Emma looked a little surprised by his fear. "Uh, yeah, it's just… weird. She said David just… took off without telling her where he was going."
David froze.
He had a clone running around?
Wait.
Wait.
If he was in Hook's body…
No.
No.
Absolutely not.
"Mom said she took Leo for a walk, but by the time she came back he was gone. He didn't even take the truck or his phone." said Emma.
Hook had been in bed with his wife.
Hook had been in bed with his wife.
David was off the bed in seconds.
"Killian?!"
Getting a furious heat every time he heard that name, David tried to keep his calm. If he could track down the damn pirate, he could make him undo whatever spell or potion he used to trap them like this and no one will be the wiser.
Dammit he wasn't about to tell his daughter they were just in bed together.
"Where are you going?" asked Emma. "You don't seem like yourself," she said, her brow lifting like she does when she's trying to catch someone in a lie.
She doesn't know the half of it.
David paused, trying to come up with an excuse to leave. "I—I'll go look for Ho—David," he said awkwardly.
Emma's brows kneaded. "I thought you said it didn't go well last night," she said sadly.
David froze.
No, it didn't.
He swallowed.
"Maybe my dad just needed to blow off some steam and go for a run or something," suggested Emma.
David thought fast. "Without his phone?"
Emma's brows lifted with surprise. "You finally stopped referring to it as a talking phone, huh?"
David blinked.
Right. Hook.
He cleared his throat. "Just in case something's wrong," he tried again. Because oh, when he found him, something was going to be wrong, all right.
Emma stood, walking around the bed to him, putting her hands around his neck. David tensed but she didn't try to kiss him. "Killian, I know it's killing you that he's upset. You've barely slept all week."
David tried not to react.
"One day," she whispered, "he'll see you the way he used to. The way I do. I know it. Just give it some time. He'll forgive you."
No, he won't.
David swallowed. "I'll go find him and… fix this mess."
One of the messes, anyway.
Emma sighed.
-.-.
Killian stopped, ducking into an alley, panting hard.
He was only lucky that Snow hadn’t been in the loft—or gods forbid, in bed. He grabbed a pair of David’s shoes and bolted.
There was zero chance he was going to risk Snow kissing him. He was lucky as all hell that she wasn't in bed when he woke up.
David hated him already.
Bloody hell.
He was David.
He was David.
How the devil did this happen?!
Killian stared at his hands.
His hands.
There was a piece of scrap wood on the ground at his feet. Killian picked it up, holding it between his hands. Felt it in his left fingers.
For half a second, he wanted to breathe out in relief.
Two hands.
Tears sprung to his eyes.
The last time he'd had two hands was when he made the bloody deal with the Crocodile, and he hadn't even been able to enjoy it for a full day.
But these weren't his hands, they were David's and damn it this was so wrong.
He dropped the wood, scrubbing his right hand over his face.
Regina.
That was it.
He could go to Regina. This had dark magic all over it.
Killian left the alley.
Not a moment later, he was tackled back into the alley.
His back—David's back, that was—slammed into the wall, and Killian grimaced, fighting the—
—incredibly familiar hand on his chest.
He blinked, freezing his movements.
In shock, he stared at himself.
It wasn't the first time he stared at himself, and the last time he'd even knocked himself out.
But this time, this other him looked absolutely murderous.
"What the hell did you do?" snarled the Killian before him.
"I…" breathed Killian, in utter shock.
His doppleganger shoved him harder against the wall, making him cringe. "Don't play games with me, Hook!" growled the other Killian. "Switch us back, now."
Killian blinked.
Switch…?
Suddenly, it clicked.
If Killian was in David's body...
That must mean…
Bloody hell.
"David?" breathed Killian.
His brows rose in a duh look, and Killian suddenly realized what people meant by his expressive eyebrows.
"Switch us back," growled David, shoving him again, pinning him with Killian's own right hand, "or I swear to god I'll—" He reared back his left, stopping abruptly when he realized he had no hand.
"Works better when there's a hook at the end of it," muttered Killian. Except, he paused, because David wasn't wearing his brace.
It was only recently that he'd started to remove his brace at night. It had taken him so long to even allow Emma to see it, to see… beneath it, but he never wanted to make it a normal occasion. But after his return from the Underworld, Emma had finally coaxed him into feeling… accepted by her. It was proven to him that, at that point, after everything he'd done, all the sides of him she's seen… nothing would push her away from him.
That by no means meant he was excited about the whole town seeing it.
"Where the bloody hell is my brace?" he growled.
"I don't give a damn!" snapped David right back. Shoving him again, he said, "Change us back! I'm sick of looking at you and I don't want to have to do it every time I look in a mirror!"
Killian shut his eyes at the contempt in his voice. Swallowing, he said, "Mate, I—"
"I am not your mate!"
Boy, it was weird hearing that line from his own voice.
"David," he altered, "I don't know what the bloody hell you're talking about because I didn't do this!" he said angrily. "What could I possibly gain?!"
"I don't know," hissed David, "two hands?"
Killian's jaw snapped shut.
It was a low blow, and it hurt.
"I told you," said Killian when he could find his voice, "I didn't do this. I woke up in your body, confused out of my bloody mind."
"Well I woke up in bed with my daughter," hissed David.
Killian's brows shot up.
Bloody damn hell.
"Did you tell her you weren't me?" he demanded.
"Before or after she tried to kiss me?" snapped David.
Killian felt his heart drop down to his boots. "She what?!"
"She didn't," added David in a mutter, making Killian nearly breath out in relief. "And no, of course not! You fix whatever spell you used and I don't have to tell her anything!"
"In case you haven't noticed," shouted Killian right back, "I'm not a bloody magic user!"
"You don't need to use magic to make a potion," growled David.
Killian let his head fall against the wall, shutting his eyes in frustration, finding it bloody ridiculous that he was pinning himself against a wall. "How many times do I have to tell you I didn't do this?!"
David glared at him for a solid minute, and Killian glared right back. After a moment, Killian watched the fire waver in his—David's—eyes. "You didn't, did you?"
"No."
After a moment, David released him. Killian fought the urge to rub the pain from his shoulders.
A little of that glare back, David muttered, "Well this is just great."
Sick of being treated like this—however much he deserved it—Killian narrowed his eyes. "I'm not happy about it either."
Slight silence spread.
Killian was the one to break it. "We should tell them," he said quietly.
"I am not walking up to my wife looking like you," snarled David, "to tell her I'm me!"
The angry heat under Killian's skin made him retort, "Afraid she'd prefer it?"
He hadn't clapped back with that kind of line in years, and he winced the moment it left his mouth. David's constant verbal punches shorted his temper and Killian suddenly wished he could take it back.
He wished he could take so, so many things back.
Angrily, David fisted Killian's own right hand, making Killian brace himself but David stopped himself. "You're damn lucky I'm not going to punch my own face."
Killian winced. "I'm sorry," he sighed shortly, because dammit he was doing a great job making things better with David. "But you have a point. I'm not sure Emma or her Highness would know exactly how to… be… around us at all," he admitted. If they were stuck like this—god forbid, forever—Emma would never kiss him again. And she'd be right to. He's in her father's body for the love of Davy Jones.
David huffed out a breath. "Any bright ideas, pirate?"
Killian bristled a little, hating how the title always sounded like an insult. "We should find someone who does practice magic," he said.
"Gold?" suggested David, and Killian wrinkled his nose hearing his voice call him anything except the name he created for the monster.
"The Crocodile? You're not serious," said Killian in disbelief.
David shook his head. "You're right. Bad idea."
"Regina?" suggested Killian.
David sighed. "Let's hope she knows what the hell happened."
-.-.
They walked the few blocks to Regina's house.
Along the way, neither of them spoke other than Killian's quiet request that David keep his left arm beneath the sleeve of his jacket at all times.
David huffed a "Fine," but said nothing else.
David knocked on the door. They both waited until it opened, revealing Regina.
Her brows lifted in unimpressed surprise. "Um," she said, looking from both of them and back. "What?" Confusion and disinterest colored her tone, sounding like she was distracted by something else.
"We…" began Killian, but David cut him off.
"Morning... love," he greeted, making Killian wince at the unsteady way he phrased the epithet, shooting him a confused look. "We had a theory about how to handle our current crisis," said David smoothly as hook, and Killian raised his brows.
Killian blinked.
So that's why the walk over here was so silent.
David spent the whole damn time crafting a lie.
Regina crossed her arms. "I'm listening."
"We were wondering about… could you cast a temporary, I don't know, body-swapping spell?"
Regina lifted her brow. "Body-swapping? That's your idea?"
"One of them," said David.
She looked from Killian to David, as if she sensed something off, but not what. "Like Pan did?" she clarified.
"Exactly like that," said David, brows rising. Killian's interest perked even more, having forgotten about when Pan switched bodies with Henry.
"Yeah, well that's because he was Pan," deadpanned Regina. "I have no idea how to do that kind of magic. Gold needed his dagger's power to undo what that creepy little brat did to Henry."
Killian shut his eyes.
"Gold—ah, Rumplestiltskin," echoes David.
"Yep."
A slight silence.
Then—
"Well, we'll keep thinking," said David awkwardly.
Regina nodded impatiently. "And then try a phone."
She shut the door. Hard.
David raised Killian's eyebrow.
Before he could say it, Killian said, "No."
He wasn't exactly surprised when David ignored him.
-.-.-.
The bell to the Crocodile's shop rang as they walked through the door.
Killian felt himself go instantly on edge just being in the very room.
"Gold," called David.
The curtains leading to the back of the shop moved aside and the Crocodile walked through them. He eyed both Killian and David in surprise, then suspicion, then…
He smiled. "Well, isn't this interesting."
"I knew he was bloody responsible," growled Killian.
Rumplestiltskin turned his unsettling smile onto Killian. "Captain. You look… different."
"Did you do this to us?" demanded David.
Rumplestiltskin raised an eyebrow. "And why would I waste any of my valuable time doing something so pointless?" He watched Killian seethe. "Though, I see the entertainment factor."
"Obviously you know we're… like this," said David. "If you didn't do it, how can you tell?"
"Other than the fact that neither of you walk like you're supposed to and you," he said to David, "clearly don't know what to do with a missing hand?" Turning a sick smile onto Killian, he sneered, "Maybe you can give him some pointers. Or, well. One."
Killian jerked, but David grabbed his arm. "Get yourself killed when you're not in my body," he hissed.
Reluctantly, Killian stayed put.
"Look," said David with waning patience. "You returned Henry to his body when Pan switched them. Get your dagger and fix us."
Gold smiled a tight-lipped smile. "What's in it for me, dearie?"
"Either do it for us now," said David firmly, "or we find Belle and ask her to convince you to. You're walking on thin ice with her as it is."
Gold's smile disappeared. "Very well." He walked into the back of the shop, returning a few moments later with the dagger. He held it between the two of them. He closed his eyes, and Killian suddenly felt a sensation that he was falling.
But as quick as it came, it abruptly stopped, like he hit a wall.
Both he and David stumbled. Killian caught himself on the counter, but David missed it—Killian understood that all too well—and he fell to his knees.
"What the bloody hell happened?" demanded Killian, staring at David's hands. He looked at the man himself. "I'm still you."
"And I'm still you," muttered David, using his right hand to get to his feet.
"Peculiar."
Both men looked at him.
"What is?" asked David.
Gold pocketed his dagger. "Looks like I won't be able to help you after all."
"Why the hell not?" growled Killian.
"This type of magic is some of the only magic I cannot touch," explained Gold, and by the victorious smile on his face, Killian knew it was the truth. "The only similar magic I've seen is that infused with the genie lamp our friend Aladdin found himself in."
"You're saying this is like wish magic?" said David blankly.
"That is exactly what I'm saying," said Gold.
"And you can't fix it," confirmed David flatly.
"No." He looked between them. "Magic is a fickle thing, dearies. Sometimes it finds you. And if you happen to wish something badly enough—"
"I made no such wish!" exclaimed David. "To be—to be him?" he breathed, making Killian stiffen. "Why the hell would I wish—" He turned to Killian, fury in his eyes. "Unless you—"
"Ma—" Killian caught himself from using the forbidden nickname. "David, I told you, I have no bloody reason to be you! I didn't bloody make any sort of wish last night!"
"Well neither did I!"
"Well one of you did," said Gold, making them look at him. "Magic like this only affects people strictly involved. One of you made it and you'll have to see it through. It happened for a reason and until that reason is met, this is how you'll remain."
"We don't even know what the hell kind of a wish it was," stressed David. "See what through?"
"That, dearie, is not my concern." said Gold. "Best figure it out soon, or it will be a very uncomfortable wedding."
Gold walked back into the back room, leaving Killian frozen in horror.
The wedding.
If this magic has to run its course, if it takes until they see it through—
What if it takes too long?
What if they're stuck like this forever?
David whirled on him. "You wished to be me?!"
Killian's eyes narrowed. "I didn't bloody wish for anything except you to—" Killian hesitated.
David froze. "You did wish something," he breathed. "What? What the hell did you wish, Hook?"
Killian blinked.
He remembered the conversation last night, how he felt, how desperately he wanted David to forgive him.
"I… I might have," he admitted, seeing David narrow his eyes. "But I didn't bloody realize I was wishing it!"
"What the hell did you wish?"
"I just wanted you to forgive me." said Killian in a defeated voice.
David held his gaze, furious emotion in Killian's own blue eyes.
"Then I guess we're staying like this forever."
And with that, David walked away.
Killian shut his eyes.
-.-.-.
Killian had to run to catch up with him.
"David," he called.
He kept walking.
"Please," he tried, and he picked up his pace, feeling a terrible sense of deja vu.
"What?" snapped David, whirling around.
"I didn't mean for this to happen," he said.
"Just like you didn't mean to put a sword through my father?"
Killian's eyes screwed shut.
A million different apologies rushed through him, but he swallowed them all. They won't work.
"I know you won't forgive me," said Killian heavily. "After what I did… I get it." A cold feeling settled inside him when David made no move to argue. "But if this… this wish or this whatever it is, is waiting for you to forgive me to break it... then maybe you can just... say it. Without… without being sincere."
David held his gaze, and Killian couldn't get over how weird it was to see David's emotions in his eyes.
But David sighed. "Fine." With complete insincerity, he said, "I forgive you."
The way he said it held such disgust that Killian wasn't surprised in the least when the curse wasn't broken.
Quietly, Killian said, "You might need to mean it, ma—" Killian caught himself, "David."
David glared at him.
A long moment passed.
"I can't."
Killian felt his shoulders fall. He shut his eyes. "You're not even going to bloody try?"
"Like you tried to spare my father's—"
"Enough!" growled Killian. "I said I was bloody sorry!"
"Sorry doesn't bring my father back."
Killian shut his eyes.
He was not having this conversation again.
He couldn't.
As heartless as David thought he was, he had one, and it was currently in pieces.
"David," said Killian heavily. "Your wife is going to want to see you at some point!"
"Then we find another way."
"The bloody Dark One couldn't do it!"
"Well then you shouldn't have wished it in the first place!"
Killian wanted to scream.
"I just wanted my friend back!"
The words came out before Killian could stop them, and he saw David pause.
Then, he looked Killian in the eye.
"And I just want my father back."
Killian felt ice slide through his chest, much the same as his sword had cut through David's father.
David huffed a sigh. "We're going to have to figure this out together," he said, like the idea did not excite him in the least. "But I… I need to get some air. Meet me in one hour at the Blue Fairy's. We're going to find a way to break this damn wish, and then I never want to see your face again."
David walked away, and Killian shut his eyes, trying to will away the burn behind his eyes.
-.-.
David walked through the trees of the Storybrooke woodland, trying to shake the angry heat in his veins.
He needed to get away from him.
The forest always felt like a calming place to him, so he attempted to calm down enough to face the bastard again and get this over with.
David came to a stop at the edge of the lake, accidentally catching a glimpse of his face—Hook's face—in the water.
With a growl, he kicked a rock into the water, watching the reflection shatter in ripples.
"No!"
He fought the ropes of the mast, securing him tightly to his own bloody ship. The Dark One's magic held him tight—too tight.
Milah's heart was in the imp's hand.
She couldn't breathe.
He himself couldn't breathe.
She crumpled to the ground.
The magic released him, and he ran, panic consuming him, catching her before she could hit the deck.
"I love you."
And just like that, the Dark One crushed the heart, killing her in an instant.
Despair, horrible, blinding, despair—
David gasped, hands flying to his aching head, only his right hand making it.
He watched her body fall into the water with a splash.
Kept his eyes on her until she disappeared beneath the waves.
A horrible sense of loneliness.
And he looked down at his left hand—or, where it had once been.
It hurt.
It hurt so horribly.
But it was nothing compared to the loss of her.
David fell to his knees, eyes screwed shut.
But the ache faded away, as did the visions.
He stared at the water, seeing Hook's reflection.
What…?
What did he just see?
Were those…?
Hook's memories?
The woman.
Somehow he knew her name was Milah.
The one who was killed, and launched Hook on his quest for revenge.
He could still feel the emotions from the memory.
Hook's emotions.
The sense of loss, the empty loneliness in his chest.
He had nothing.
No one.
David blinked, staring at Hook's face in the water.
David himself had dealt with loss before.
He'd lost his mother.
But… he'd never experienced having nothing.
He'd had Snow, and the dwarves and the Kingdom. He'd never once been truly alone.
He'd never experience the sheer sort of loneliness that Hook's memory brought. It was such a strong hurt that it felt physical.
David swallowed.
But he shut his eyes, tearing his gaze away from the water.
It felt horrible.
It was horrible, how Hook had once felt.
But he was a pirate.
He's taken so many lives.
He was a villain.
Loneliness didn't condone murdering an innocent man.
That didn't condone murdering his father.
David picked himself up, faltering when he forgot he didn't have a left hand.
He sighed, and he started back.
-.-.
David saw Killian—or, himself, as it was—waiting for him just outside the mansion.
Killian had his hands in his pockets, leaning against a tree. When he noticed David, he seemed to tense, and straightened immediately.
David felt the angry heat he'd tried to shake off the past hour return at the sight of him.
"Let's get this over with," snapped David.
Wordlessly, Killian nodded, and they both started up the steps to the mansion.
Once David walked through the door, Mother Superior was standing in the foyer already. Her brows crinkled when she saw them.
"I thought I was needed," she said softly. Looking between the two of them, her brows rose a little. "Oh," she said with a little surprise.
"How you and Gold can notice it in a second," said David, "and my daughter couldn't after ten minutes, I'll never understand."
She smiled a little. "Those of us who have been with magic longer sense it easier." She clasped her hands. "I'm assuming you came to get changed back?"
"Can you?" asked Killian.
She pulled out her wand, shutting her eyes and holding it between them like Gold had done with the dagger.
Her eyes opened. "Wish magic."
"Yes," said Killian, "the Crocodile told us that much. He either didn't know how to fix us or didn't want to."
"I sense he has told you how to solve your problem," she said quietly.
David fought the urge to groan. "We were wondering if there was another way. Without… fulfilling the wish."
Her brows crinkled. "With a wish this strong?"
David's brows rose, looking at Killian.
…Who suddenly found the floor incredibly interesting.
"What do you mean?" asked David.
"A wish fueled with this much emotion is near impossible to break before fulfilled," she said.
David blinked.
Emotion?
Hook wished for his forgiveness that badly?
Shaking away the wonderment, David said, "Near impossible. You said near." Raising a brow, he said, "There is a way, isn't there?"
Blue hesitated.
"What is it?" breathed David.
She sighed. "The only way to break it would be to drink broken magic."
Both David and Hook simply blinked in confusion.
"Drink what?" Hook asked.
"It would be impossible in the Enchanted Forest or any other realm," said Blue, "but this is a land without magic. At least, outside these city limits. If you were to take the well water, where our magic here originates, pass it over the town line and then drink it, there is a great chance this will be broken."
"We can't just walk over the town line?" asked David.
"For a wish this strong," she repeated again, making David try his best to ignore how Hook went rigid, "you'll need the strongest, most pure magic here to break. You cannot break this spell without broken pure magic. And it must be retrieved together."
David sighed. "Okay. Well water, town line." He nodded. "Easier than I thought."
Blue regarded him, and then Hook, with a thoughtful gaze. Almost like she knew something they didn't.
But David was already walking away, determined and ready to get this over with.
Not too far away was one of the two town cruisers.
David always left a spare key under the rim, and when he got to the car. He retrieved it.
With a sigh, he waited for Hook to catch up.
They needed to do this together, it seemed, which really ruined David's plan of getting it all himself.
David let himself into the car, watching Hook silently get in the passengers seat.
David reached to close the door, but remembered.
No left hand.
With a sigh he reached his right hand to pull the door shut. Then, he grabbed the seatbelt, pulling it over himself, his left arm moving to help it, but again—no left hand. He tried again, but the belt retracted completely.
"This is impossible!" growled David.
A slight silence spread in the passenger seat as David tried to get the seatbelt with one hand.
"You get used to it."
David paused at the quiet voice, seeing Hook not looking at him, and instead at David's own left hand. He was opening and closing it.
Just because he could.
David finally got the seatbelt to click in. He looked at Hook, seeing a familiar emotion in his eyes to something David felt in Hook's memory.
But then, he remembered himself.
Remembered the man sitting next to him was his father's murderer.
And he put the car into gear, pulling onto the street, doing his best to do everything one handed.
Hook didn't say anything else.
Just kept opening and closing his hand in silence.
-.-.-
They walked through the woods in silence.
David took the lead, letting Hook slink behind.
He really did look miserable.
But David didn't let himself fall for it.
He killed your father, he told himself firmly.
David tripped, nearly falling, but caught himself.
"Woah," he said, catching himself on the side of the ship, staring his five-year-old eyes onto the water.
"Careful, there, Killian," said his father, standing beside him. "You'll get your sea legs one day, m'boy."
"Will you teach me to sail?"
His father ruffled his hair. "Of course, my son."
David gasped, his head pounding.
He woke up in his cabin, but Liam wasn't in his bed across from him.
He sat up. "Father?" he called.
Liam, a few years older than him but not even yet a teenager, came in. "It's just us, Killian. Remember?"
"He'll come back," he replied with a sureness that shook. "He told me he's gonna teach me to sail."
Liam took his shoulders. "Killian, he sold us to the ship. He isn't coming back. But I will never leave you." He smiled. "I'll teach you to sail."
Sadness, fear, emptiness.
Desperation.
"You won't leave?" he whispered.
"Never."
David fell to his knee.
"David?!"
"Liam!"
He was turning black. The poison was taking his life.
"He wouldn't have if you hadn't goaded him into it."
No.
He couldn't lose him.
No.
The boy led him to the water, the blackness was receding.
Liam was saved.
His brother was all right.
His fractured world put haphazardly back together.
"Killian, I'm sorry. You were the honorable one. Not me."
Killian smiled.
They were in the cabin.
Liam couldn't breathe.
He fell.
"Help!"
Killian cradled him.
Tears burned down his face.
He was gone.
He was dead.
Killian was alone.
David felt a sharp shake.
"David!"
David opened his eyes, seeing himself—or, as it was, Hook—leaning over him with stark concern.
David blinked, headache receding.
"Are you all right?" asked Hook shakily. "Don't tell me I'm bloody dying," he said, almost like a joke, but the fear in his eyes gave him away.
David was still reeling from the memories.
How could one person lose so much?
And for his father to walk away from him when he was just a child?
To lose his brother as a teenager?
And then to fall in love, only to have her killed before his eyes?
Hook's emotions in the memories were still inside him.
He killed your father.
He killed your father.
He killed your father.
"David?!"
David shoved him off, getting back to his feet, even when he forgot yet again how difficult it was without a left hand.
He started walking again.
Hook hurried to catch up with him. "You're not going to bloody tell me why you just collapsed?"
"Tripped."
Hook glared at him.
But he let it drop.
David suddenly wondered if the pirate was seeing his own memories.
He walked faster.
And he tried not to think about the horrible emptiness he still felt linger from the memories.
They made it to the well not long after.
David began to pull the bucket of water up, only remembering that he was missing a hand.
Again.
Wordlessly, Hook took over.
David stared at the trees.
He took a swig of rum, straight from the bottle.
He used to be proud of his tolerance. Now he's annoyed he's too good at drinking.
He was alone.
In every sense of the word.
He was in his cabin, sat behind his desk.
He thought of his brother.
Wondered how disappointed he would be in him.
He thought of Milah.
Looked at his hand. His hook.
He wondered if she would still love him like this.
He missed her.
He took another swig.
He killed four people today.
He felt nothing.
He hasn't felt anything in centuries.
He'll kill again tomorrow.
He'll feel nothing again.
He'll continue his search for the Crocodile.
He only hoped that once he's dead, maybe he will feel something again.
Something other than hatred.
And he learned something tonight, something he's known forever but only admitted tonight.
He didn't hate the Crocodile any more than he hated himself.
"Got it."
David jerked, eyes flying open, glad the tree had been at his back. His head throbbed.
David cleared his throat.
Hook nodded toward the town line without looking at him.
David stared after him.
He killed your father.
The words don't hold the same amount of heat.
David swallowed, and he followed.
-.-.
Hook was standing at the edge of the town, before the line.
He had the bucket in his right hand.
David walked to him.
"Let's get it over with, shall we," said Hook quietly.
David moved to nod.
"I found this."
August handed him the page.
He looked.
And he recognized David's father.
Horror sank through him.
No.
It couldn't be.
Please, no.
He couldn't breathe.
His legs were numb.
How could he do this?
How could he ever have done this?
How could he have been such a terrible, vile person?
He was just beginning to feel redeemed.
He's hated himself so much.
He still did.
But he had just begun to feel proud.
He had just gained David's approval.
He never even thought he could gain him as a friend.
Panic shot through him.
David.
No.
No, no, no….
How could he do this?
He could remember it, he could picture it.
The sword in his grip, the steel sliding into the man's body.
His eyes burned.
He wanted to scream.
David feels two hand grab him before he can fall.
"David?! Mate?!"
Hook steadied him.
David looked at him.
Felt the panic from the memory.
"David," breathed Hook. "What's happening? What's wrong?"
David, in all his life, had never felt that.
Felt a hatred that strong, directed at himself.
Felt a constant uphill battle to do better.
And felt such utter remorse, such panic, such desperation to lose the people he had been almost too afraid to let into his life after so much loss.
This was a man who was broken more than David could ever imagine.
A man who realized how far wrong he had been, and clawed his way back to right.
David had known Hook wanted to make things right, had regretted what he had done, but he didn't understand just how deeply he did.
And suddenly, his headache grew tenfold, accompanied with the strict feeling of falling.
David watched Hook's eyes screw shut before his own did, both men nearly collapsing from the pressure.
When David opened his eyes, he was facing the other direction.
And standing where he had been was Hook.
Hook grimaced, his hand to his head, slowly opening his eyes. When he saw David, his eyes widened. "Bloody—" He looked to the town line. "We didn't even do it," he breathed. "How…?"
"I never knew."
Hook paused, brows lifting. "Sorry?"
"I never knew," said David, tossing the bucket to the ground. "How much you lost."
Hook tensed. "What..?"
"I don't know how, but… I could… see some of your memories," said David.
Hook went rigid.
"Hook," said David, tensing Hook even more. He sighed. "I can't forgive what you've done."
David watch despair descend in Hook's eyes. "I… understand," he said quietly.
"But I do forgive you."
Hook's brows shot to his hairline.
"Killian, what I saw, what your life was," he said slowly, "I don't know how I would have lived through it. I can't say that I'm okay with the fact that you…" He didn't phrase it but Hook flinched a little. "I guess I'm trying to say that I could see it from your... perspective. I could feel what you felt. You aren't that man anymore."
Hook looked at him with such hope that David had the stark reminder of the memory of Killian as a little boy.
"I'm sorry for how I spoke to you," added David. "Especially about your hand. It was uncalled for."
Hook shook his head. "It wasn't. David, I really do wish I could—"
David slapped a hand over his mouth. "Do not finish that thought."
David removed his hand, and Hook smiled.
A little piece of his heart falling back into place.

Cygnet Scholar Ship Headcanons
Tumblr media
My last main Next Gen ship, Hope Swan-Jones and Gideon Gold!
This ship is my bias for some reason lmao. I can't explain why I love the ship between two barely there characters who never met in canon.
I think that @kazoosandfannypacks put it best in the tags of this post: "'our parents are sworn enemies but we're childhood best friends to lovers' is SUCH a good dynamic."
Also, idk if I ever mentioned this, but in this AU, Gideon stays in Storybrooke and grows up normally there, so he's about a year older than Hope, and four or five months younger than Robyn.
Tropes: Childhood friends to lovers || Kindred spirits || Will-they-won’t-they || Partners in crime || They both like each other, they’re just idiots || Banter
Songs: Chasing Cars- Snow Patrol || Follow You- Imagine Dragons || The Last of the Real Ones- Fall Out Boy || Fire Escape- Andrew McMahon || Sober Up- AJR || Hold Me While You Wait- Lewis Capaldi
Headcanons Under the Cut: (all pre-relationship)
They’ve been best friends since they were toddlers.
They were very close in elementary school, somewhat drifted apart in middle school, and got very close again in high school.
Gideon has liked Hope since early middle school. Hope started liking him in late middle school/ early high school.
Since Gideon is a year older, they don’t have many classes together, but they meet up in the library at lunch.
Gideon is a mathlete, and Hope is on the school dance team. They try to go to each other’s events after school.
Since they’re both socially inept, they like to hang out in places where there aren't a lot of people. Their favorite spots are: The roof of Mr. Gold’s pawn shop, the clock tower in the library, and the beach on stormy days.
Hope loves talking to Gideon about her hyperfixations, and Gideon loves listening to her.
Hope calls Gideon “Croc,” “Love,” and “Handsome Hero.” Gideon calls Hope “Cygnet,” “Princess,” and “Dearest.”
Gideon has chronic nightmares from his time as the Black Fairy’s puppet, and Hope is happy to distract him when he doesn’t want to bother his mom.
They both leave their windows unlocked at night, and are constantly sneaking into each other’s rooms after nightmares/ anxiety.
Hope doesn’t have any magic, and Gideon fears his own magic. They like to complain about these problems together.
Hope got them those tacky best friend heart necklaces for Gideon’s birthday. Both claim it was a joke, but they rarely take them off.
Gideon is 5’8, and Hope is 5’3, so he picks her up a lot. Mainly to convince her not to do stupid things.
Hope has tried to date a few people before realizing she had it bad for Gideon (including Robyn, but that’s another post) nothing ever worked out longer than a few weeks, and a few were Not Great relationships. Since Gideon is the Dark One’s son, a lot of kids his age either fear him or bully him relentlessly. So not great in the dating department.
Gideon never put much thought into his sexual orientation, but he knows he likes both girls and guys. Hope knew she was asexual pretty early on. She figured out that she was demiromantic later through Alex Boyd, Storybrooke’s resident queer helper-outer.
Since the whole…thing with Gideon’s dad being mortal enemies with Hope’s dad, and Gideon almost killing Hope’s mom or whatever, Gideon always assumes that Killian and Emma hate him, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Emma, Killian, and Belle all look forward to the day when Hope and Gideon finally get together. (Rumple cheated and looked into the future so he knows that they do lol)

There's a lot I could say about Liliana and sex on this wonderful Sunday. But what it boils down to is that for the most part, sex is a tactic; a way for her to get what she wants. She may enjoy it, sure. But ultimately it's a tool. It's never really been anything special.
In her pre-spark years, it was a means for ruining her reputation and rebelling against her father & the strictness of the expectations of her. It was also to a degree a substitution for love; even if she knew truly the boys she slept with didn't actually love her. Such is seen in a panel in The Raven's Eye Part 1
Tumblr media
But after her spark ignited and she was on her own, it became a tool for acquiring things such as wealth, information, a way to get close to enemies & kill them... anything she needed really. It's a manipulation tactic as well --- a way to gain trust which would lead to any of the former. I guess to sum it up, sex is mainly transactional. And it's an easy card for to play as she uses her looks and charm as tools of seduction. The only time she's come close to actually just making love is with Jace Beleren the mind sculptor (which that whole relationship is a majorly a train wreck with a handful of nice/sweet moments between them) or if you support the theory of her being Killian Lu's mother, Embrose Lu, one of the deans at Strixhaven. And Gideon...if it had worked out and they got to be a thing.
So anytime anyone wants to fuck, she assumes it's a shallow act or that they want something else from her.
I suppose a note should be made too that many partners from a one night stand have ended up dead after a tryst with her --- situation depending. and more than likely they just end up another part of her horde.

I Don't Want to Miss a Thing
Tumblr media
Pairings: Captain Killian Jones + Emma Swan
Summary: Killian and Emma have their proper wedding reception after the final battle, which includes their first dance and the much loved, father-daughter dance.
Tumblr media
Heroes all sat at the same table, Killian and Emma were happily reunited and living the wedded bliss of as newlyweds. The final battle had been won, Gideon was back to being a baby (Emma thought he was really cute when she finally got to see him - when he wasn't trying to kill her...)
It had been a good couple of days since the final battle, Emma and Killian wanted to spend some time together (alone), Snow and David wanted to spend some time with their baby Neal as he was starting to grow rather quickly, Belle and Rumplestiltskin wanted to spend time with baby Gideon.
Tumblr media
Since arriving at Granny's, Killian and Emma really couldn't let go of each other, even though it was mainly Killian who refused to let go of his wife. He almost lost her to death, he wasn't about to lose her another time. He really wouldn't survive it. Losing Milah was hard enough, he went 300 years to find his 'revenge', but losing Emma would crush his very being, he'd be heartbroken, he wouldn't be able to do anything. He can't live without the love of his life. His true love. His wife. His saviour. His Emma.
But, thanks to Henry, Emma was now sat next to him, his hooked arm resting along the back of her chair, his hook twisting itself lovingly into her long, soft blonde hair.
Every time he looked over at her, he smiled some more, and his eyes got the doe-eyed loved-up look. He adores Emma, and every time, he fell a bit more in love with her. If that was even possible.
Tumblr media
"Before we properly start our meal, Regina, if you please?" Snow stood up and looked at her somewhat stepmother.
Regina nodded, and looked at Emma and Killian, with a flick of her hand, Emma and Killian had a change of clothes in a puff of purple smoke. They were in their wedding clothes. Emma was wearing her wedding dress and her veil hanging behind her head. Killian was in his wedding suit and looking as smart as he did when he married Emma.
"Look at you, Swan," Killian looked in awe of his wife, who is stood in her gorgeous dress, smiling happily as he took her hand and gave her a twirl, her dress twirling around her feet. "My beautiful Swan," Killian then cradled her face and gave her a peck on the lips.
Henry was smiling up at his birth mother and new step-dad, ecstatic to see his mother so happy, and even though Killian was a former Pirate Captain, Henry is glad that Killian makes Emma happy.
Tumblr media
There weren't many songs on the jukebox, but with Henry and David in charge, they were happily flicking through trying to find a decent enough song for Killian and Emma's second dance as a married couple, really it was their first where they didn't have to worry about villains trying to split them apart.
Killian was tucking a piece of Emma's hair that had fallen in front of her face while they were talking about anything and everything, the hair falling between her eyes, made her focus on that rather than her husband. When 'I Don't Want to Miss a Thing' by Aerosmith starting playing, dragging a blushing Emma (even after this time, she still blushed!) to her son who was happily smiling at his mom.
"Your song," He stated, as David and a few of the more helpful dwarfs, the table that the heroes were sat at was pushed towards the bar, enough room for Killian and Emma to dance, and then when proper dance songs came on, for everyone to go crazy.
"Well, Mrs Jones, care to dance?" Killian offered his hand, his face lighting up when she does. No matter how many times Emma has told him that she wouldn't change a single thing about him, he sometimes wished that he had his left hand for things like this.
Emma's hand in his, she was taken to the dancefloor, Killian's hook resting easily and carefully on her dress covered hip. He didn't want to rip her dress to shreds, he had some idea of how long it had taken Emma to find the 'perfect dress'. "I thought you'd never ask, Captain," it would feel funny for Emma to call him 'Mr Jones', as he is the Captain of the Jolly Roger, former pirate as well as a former Lieutenant.
After a short while of Killian and Emma simply going around in circles, she let go of his hand and wrapped both of hers around his neck and shuffled into his chest. Killian wrapped his arms around her waist and rested the side of his head against hers. "I love you, Killian," it was rare that Emma said that first, but when she did, Killian melted.
"I love you too, Swan, my gorgeous wife," just the word 'wife' alone was enough to send Killian to the moon and back with happiness.
And that is how Killian and Emma spent their proper first dance, only for it to be interrupted...
She spins and she sways To whatever song plays Without a care in the world And I'm sitting here wearing The weight of the world on my shoulders.
"Can I cut in?" Emma lifts her head from Killian's strong chest, to see her dad smiling at her with pride but also with tears in his eyes.
"Of course, Dave," Killian took Emma's hand and placed it in her dad's (just like the prince had done, 'giving away' his daughter to her pirate officially). A kiss to Emma's cheek and Killian was stood next to Henry, who had a phone and a speaker playing the song.
Before David and Emma could start dancing, she took the shoes she was wearing to her actual wedding off and proceeded to stand on her dad's feet. "I know you missed things like this," Emma smiled, and David could feel the tears welling underneath where he could see his blonde baby.
Well, she came home today with a ring on her hand Just glowing and telling us all they had planned She says, "Dad, the wedding's still six months away But I need to practice my dancing Oh, please, Daddy, please?"
David never thought he would get to have a father-daughter dance with Emma, after she told them about her vision, no matter how much hope Snow had, he truly thought he was going to lose his oldest baby, the little blonde baby he put in that wardrobe the day she was born, he missed everything and now she was married!
Emma wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly, and said quietly to him. "Thank you for teaching me, dad,"
That was when the tears started rolling down his cheeks, "I'd do anything for you, Emma,"

Killian Jones having ZERO chill
Our Captain doesn't take well to his Swan being in danger...
Tumblr media
Nor being separated from her...
The following is a list of instances of Killian Jones having ZERO chill when it comes to Emma Swan
He was desperate to reach her
Tumblr media
He’d still be there chipping away at the ice with his hook if that’s what it took...
Tumblr media
Killian Jones faced the Wicked Witch to get Emma back when no one else would.
Tumblr media
Sorry isn’t good enough! Emma’s in danger! She thinks that I’ve abandoned her. I have to get back and tell her the truth.
Tumblr media
Black Beard: What's so important that you'd be willing to trade your beloved ship for a magic bean... again? Killian: I've been separated from the woman I love, and now she's in danger.
Tumblr media
The Jolly Roger was his home. He’s traded it twice for Emma Swan. Not only that, he outran a curse to reach her.
Tumblr media
It’s me again. I’m sorry for leaving so many messages...
Tumblr media
If I can’t find her, I can damn well bring her to me. Dark One, with this dagger, I command thee. Return!
Tumblr media
The woman I love is in danger and every second I spend arguing with you should be spent finding a way back to her!
Tumblr media
Emma, are you there? I didn't mean to leave. I was... I was on my way back to you, and... Gideon... he sent me away. I would never leave you. Emma, he wanted me out of the way. And I love you. I don't know if you can hear me, but... I'm trying to get home to you... and I won't ever stop until I do.
He was desperate to save her
Tumblr media
When you asked me to dispose of those shears... I didn't. I couldn't lose the one thing that might help save you. Even if that meant you hated me, but luckily, your boy made me see the error of my ways. And before you say anything, they're at the bottom of the ocean where they can tell no tales.
Tumblr media
So, yes, I'm gonna climb this beanstalk and I am gonna find that bean...because I'm not gonna lose everything I have just because some bitter fairy cast another bloody curse!
Tumblr media
Hook: We'll find another way to defeat the Snow Queen... Together.
I don’t even think he noticed Elsa. Killian Jones scared that his arch enemy would take Emma away from him too breaks my heart. The look of desperation on his face. His need to connect with her. And then his quiet declaration of “I’m a fan of every part of you”.
He was desperate to help her
Killian Jones just does not sit still when Emma is in danger. He knows she can take care of herself. He knows she is capable. But that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want to be by her side where he belongs. Watching her back.
Tumblr media
How often did he rush to her side?
Tumblr media
He faced the Wicked Witch to get back to her and here he went up against the most powerful Dark One to buy her a little more time to defeat the black fairy.
Tumblr media
Elsa: I'm not coming with you. There's someone out there with powers like mine. I need to find out who. I...I can't just hide out in some sheriff's station. Hook: Oh. Well, that works out quite nicely, then. 'Cause that's not where we're going. Elsa: It's not? Hook: With Emma running into danger? Not a chance in hell. And the sheriff's station's that way.
Tumblr media
Elsa: And what's that way? Hook:  With any luck, danger.
Tumblr media
Hades is out there now, threatening Emma, and I bloody well need to find a way to save her.
Tumblr media
We don't have time to waste on a bloody dance. Emma: I'm not going to go dark in one night. Hook: I'm not willing to take that chance. Your Majesty... When are we gonna start our quest to find Merlin?
Tumblr media
Side note: You know she’s thinking “shut up and dance with me tonight”
I spent over a century trying to find a way to kill the Bloody Crocodile. I can spend at least that long trying to save the woman I love.
Tumblr media
David: Hook, Merlin's helping Emma. Hook: Is he?! She's sitting out there right now, making things to pull memories out of people's heads, because that's what she does now instead of sleeping. I'm not quite seeing the helping!
He gets cranky when people aren’t doing enough to help him help her
He was desperate to defend her
Tumblr media
He wouldn’t let anyone control Emma with the dagger. He knows what its like to be under someone’s control. And... he knows it needs to be her choice and he trusted her to make the right one.
Tumblr media
He didn’t even like his old self trifling with her affections (though who was he kidding... had he remembered he’d given up everything and followed her as he admits later!)
Tumblr media
So, that's what you think it's about? A sword she hasn't actually used?
He spent the first half of season five doing nothing but defending Dark Swan to the others.
BUT... ONE FINAL THING....
Since Killian Jones just wasn’t one to sit idly by...
Tumblr media
I spent over a century trying to find a way to kill the Bloody Crocodile. I can spend at least that long trying to save the woman I love.
Tell me why he’d do so during the Wish Realm?
Tumblr media
This is how you can spot fan service... characters often go out of character in order to make it happen. The Wish Realm was pure Queenie fan service garbage. Change my mind.

Once Upon A Time Rewatch: 6x15 A Wondrous Place
Tumblr media
Just moved yesterday so bear with me. Lifted so many bags. If my arms aren’t like Emma’s after that I am suing!
What episode do we have today?
A Wondrous Place. Okay, I don’t really remember that one. Do they go to Agrabah? Guess we’ll find out.
I wonder if Wonderland and Agrabah are right next to each other. It seemed to be the case in Ouat in Wonderland but maybe there’s a set portal between them or something. Either that or they’re in the same realm.
Agrabah is apparently across the desert from Eric’s Kingdom. So, in the same realm as the Enchanted Forest?
Did you know, Snow’s nightmare prison realm in 7x22 was Agrabah?
Let David be angry about what happened, dammit. I wish they would make it more about David’s feelings as opposed to being about trust in Emma and Hook’s relationship. What’s the point in adding this Storyline if there’s not going to be conflict between the people involved?
Okay, I get that they wanted conflict in Emma and Hook’s relationship, but she’s not even upset about the actual murder. They could have made it about him not trusting her with the secret of him being a furry or something if that’s what they were going for. Basically, why write in the murder of David’s father if there is not going to be consequences for that or conflict about that specifically? Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea and potential of Hook killing David’s father. We get one scene of David pacing before making it all about CS trust issues and that’s it?? I just want David to be as upset as he was at George when he found out his dad was murdered. I want Emma to question her stance on forgiveness, even for a loved one, when those close to her are hurt irreparably right in front of her. Where is the internal and external conflict? I don’t want it to be about rehashed trust issues. I want it to be about how characters come to terms and move forward in an angst-ridden impossible situation.
Kraken’s blood allows you to travel between realms? Rumple is tearing out his hair right now. Oh! I guess that’s how it got shorter!
Chill, Killian. I’mma make you some camomile tea.
He’s so desperate to see his Kraken lover again. Get some of that tentacle, Hook!
No one remembers Achmed. He f***ed a tiger!!
If you know that reference, you know xD.
Aladdin: “Jasmine, duck.” Jasmine (petrified): “Where?!” Jasmine has an intense phobia of ducks, confirmed.
Don’t hit Kracky. He just wants his Killy.
Killian, how could you hurt your lover like that! The betrayal!
Hook, honey, I don’t know why you're so moody with everyone today but I'mma get you some cbd gummies. You’ll be fine.
No one’s gonna help you if you talk to them like that, my dude.
Jasmine “So forgive me for-” Me: “-doing what’s best for you! So forgive me for try-y-y-ying to make things easier.” Listen, I rewatched We Are the Tigers musical last week and I may suddenly be a little bit obsessed. Go watch/listen to it so we can geek out!
Back to the rewatch.
Where’s Nemo and Liam?
Jafar is quite handy at travelling between realms according to Killian. Maybe that’s how he went from Agrabah to Wonderland so easily in Ouatiw. But I’m sure we saw him use the white rabbit, so surely he can’t have another method. Unless... His magic carpet??
Emma is so blasé about Hook running off. She just seems like she wants to sleep. But she seems like she wants to sleep this whole damn season. Girl’s so done with everything. Completely checked out, bless her. Though it is sad to see a favourite character change so dramatically. Compare her to s1 or even s4 Emma and goodness gracious I just think s6 Emma might benefit from a heavy dose of sleeping curse or something. Let. Her. Sleep. Someone could just run Henry through in front of her and she’d take about 10 minutes to even realise and be like “Oh. Okay.” in slow motion when she finally notices and then she’d make out with Hook. Bonus points if Hook is the one to run Henry through.
Friends? That’s her mama. But hey, my mum’s my buddy too.
Lol. She stole a fork?
If you had to be a human hybrid, what would you be? Maybe I’d be a manticore or a womanticore.
Jasmine is being awfully nice to someone who just stole something. Some might say she has a thing for thieves. Wink. Wink.
Wow. This magical carpet ride is super gay. Love it.
Oh my God, she’s right. It is a rug!
Why is Hook being so rude today?
Regina is just staring at Emma like “wtf happened to you?”
I just realised, Regina basically invited Emma on a date and invited her mother lol.
Snow lol.
Omg Emma needs a freaking lucozade. Someone get her a lucozade. Wake up Emma! *shakes her aggressively* Wake the hell up! Come back to us!
Don’t the Jones brothers wanna hang out more?
That girl really loves her forks.
Woah. She chased Eric all the way to Agrabah after one dance.
Eric: “I have a great love for your people, especially poached with lemon and capers” lmao!!
“Son of a fish.”
What?! How’d he free himself?!
Ouat please explain. Are they suggesting the Well of Wonders Woman didn’t curse him to be a genie but just cursed him to stay in the bottle. They’ve gotta explain these things or they just look like inconsistencies.
Oh. Hang on. Ariel was supposed to have lost her voice. Okay but she had a necklace that allowed her to speak. I’m guessing Jafar destroyed it when he banished her to the sea.
Lol. He really hates being called bastard?
So, these events occur before present day events of Ouatiw. Agrabah was trapped in a ring all throughout Ouatiw? I feel like we saw it still standing in the present day in Ouatiw, no? I need to rewatch.
Are the people of Agrabah still living their best lives inside that ring? Do they even know they’re trapped?
Ha! Turned into a staff. He freaking deserves that after doing exactly that to Amara. But then and again she probably deserved it.
All they had to do was kiss to get Agrabah out of that ring. What?! Oh, and he’s free from the genie curse too. This is getting ridiculous. Can we please have some consistency with the limitations of magic? Genie curses cannot be flipping broken with true loves kiss. That would have saved Cyrus and Alice a hell of a lot of trouble!
“I’m an oyster head!”
Emma, please, take a 10-hour nap. You’re making me tired.
Ther will be no portals between Emma and Killian so long as Gideon has her tears. These rules make no sense!
It felt like ridiculous solutions were thrown into that episode. How do these tears of the saviour rules work? Could Cora have taken Emma’s tears to stop her taking a portal to Henry in 2a or does it just prevent her taking a portal to her romantic love and vice versa? What?!

Sequel to Dinnertime Disaster ~ Belle confronts Snow on her behavior towards her family and finally gets some things off her chest.
[A03]
Age of the kids: Around 23
-.-.-.-.-
Belle angrily shelved a cart of returned books, stuffing them beside each other without care to their catalog numbers.
It had been three days since her disastrous dinner with the Charmings and her blood was still boiling after Snow White’s attack on her son. Three days since her son ran off and hadn’t told his parents where he was going or when he was coming back. Three days that her daughter revealed her secret ability and barley spoken a word since.
Even her husband was quieter than usual. Belle assumed he was keeping himself distracted to prevent himself from wreaking havoc on the princess-turned-bandit, and possibly keeping tabs on Gideon, but it still felt like she was dealing with the aftermath alone.
Snow White had destroyed the foundation of her family in a matter of seconds and Belle had yet to be able to piece it back together.
Belle remembered the last time she felt this hate-filled and lost: when she had sent Rumple over the town line after his attempt of murder on Killian. She regretted it the second Rumple was over the line, but she’d been too heart-broken to bring him back. She had tried to convince herself that she was doing what was best for the town and even herself, but deep in her bones she knew she was doing it because she was hurt, because the one person she thought she could always trust had just spat on their vows, and she needed space.
And she did get space…from her rejected husband as well as the very people she’d helped save. For three days she had sat in the home she and Rumple shared, sobbing and tearing apart the remains of the life they had begun to build. Not once did the Charmings or even Hook—whom she would find out through a loose-lipped Leroy had been black-mailing her husband mere days after their wedding—stop by to check on her well-being. In fact three days later, when she managed to pull herself together long enough to get an on-the-house bowl of soup at Granny’s, she found the Charming clan laughing and carrying on at a table in the back, only noticing her once she was leaving.
It was a minor sin, Belle thought at the time, but it wasn’t until a year later, when she and Rumple renewed their vows—when she became a mother and nearly lost her dear son to an unquestionable evil—when the heroes she fought for, and sacrificed over, were dead-set on killing him—that she was able to realize that the sins against her were too great to ignore any longer.
They had left left in the hospital to rot after Killian’s attack, scared and delirious with amnesia, drugging her over and over again to keep her tame.
Snow White had sold out her and her unborn child to save Killian’s skin—and none of them had bothered to warn her of the impending danger.
And they all made the decision to leave her to rot in the Underworld after she put herself in an ill-advised sleep to protect her baby—gods she would never forget the look on Emma’s face when she popped into Granny’s. They had completely forgotten about her.
And that was on top of the constant blackmail, of using her as an inanimate object to be tossed around and trampled on and crushed as long as it benefited them.
By the time her son had been restored to her, she was willing to let go of all the misdeeds done towards her, to begin anew just as Gideon’s life had been.
But then they started up all over again.
Inquiring her services to babysit Neal and Robyn at every drop of a hat—only to ignore her requests for assistance with Gideon whenever she needed it.
Sneering at Gideon from afar.
Leaving all of them out of ‘family’ events, like dinners or parties.
It hurt, but Belle had buried that pain for Neal and Robyn’s sakes. They were what mattered. They were her family.
And now half of that equation was gods knows where, angry and hurting from his own mother’s backwards thinking—and as his unofficially godmother, Belle couldn’t help him.
She knew where he was of course. A quick spell on Rumple’s end determined that he and Gideon were still in Storybrooke, though keeping their distance.
Giving them their space was the hardest part. As a mother all she wanted to comfort her son, but she needed to let him grieve and think on his own.
If the other night hadn’t happened, maybe he would be.
The thought was still on her mind when the door to her library opened despite the closed sign, and festered into hate when the one woman in the world she didn’t want to see stepped in.
“Belle, good morning,” Snow White greeted with her usual bright smile. Though there was more stress in her eyes.
“We’re closed,” Belle said, pushing the cart towards the children’s section, her anger boiling when she heard her follow.
“We need to talk about the other night,” Snow said, her tone indicating there was no room for argument. “More importantly, where our son’s go from here.”
Belle released the cart, letting it roll until it crashed into a shelf. “I have nothing to say to you, and what our sons do is their business.”
Snow rolled her eyes. “I knew you’d act this way.”
Belle slammed a book down on the cart. “Like what, Snow? Like a parent or like someone with common sense.”
“I wouldn’t call you that,” Snow muttered, and Belle twisted around.
“You know what, this has gone on long enough.” Belle said. For yours there seemed to be this balancing act between her and the ex-princess. There was this intense acidity between them, far from a rivalry, but constant enough that they subconsciously tried to outwit each other as mothers and as leaders in Storybrooke.
But there was something more personal there, a phenomenon that divided yet bounded them together for life: darkness.
Snow feared and hated it, convinced that it went against everything she was meant to represent as a hero.
Belle accepted it as part of her life, as a part of her husband and son’s very existence. She hated it as well, but she greeted it with respect, knowing light could not exist without it.
It was in her and her family, and Snow hated that. She hated that her own child didn’t seem to mind it.
But Snow was without reason when it came to darkness, or at least anything that was darker than her.
Maybe the former princess didn’t know it yet, but Belle was just that.
“You,” Belle snarled. “Are a pious bitch and I am so sick of you.”
Snow’s eyes widened but Belle didn’t back down.
“You need to drop your issues with me and my family right now,” Belle directed coldly. “We have done nothing but been civil to you for the past two decades, but all you’ve ever done is stick your noses up at us and the other night was the final straw!”
Belle didn’t back down. She stepped up to the ex-bandit and pointed a finger at her, aiming for her heart.
“You act like your better than us, than me, than everyone in this town, but you’re lower than everyone! People may love you, but they don’t respect you because you have done nothing to earn respect! You endanger them without warning, leave them in the grips of an enemy without a leader! And that’s just the town! What about your family?”
“How dare—”
“Didn’t you ever wonder why Neal came to our house so often?” Belle inquired—begged—Snow White. “He didn’t feel comfortable around you! He felt constricted, like he had to be the son of Snow White and Prince Charming, not the son of his parents.”
Snow shook her head, staring at Belle in disbelief.
“You’re lying. He never said any of this. He never—”
“Why do you think that is?” Belle spat.
Snow’s eyes searched Belle’s face, hunting desperately for the answer that she knew.
She gulped, nodding her head just slightly as her chin wobbled.
“Fine,” she admitted through clenched teeth, her pride settling. “Maybe I did push him too hard. But everything…” she looked at Belle squarely. “Everything I did was to protect him from the likes of you.”
Belle flinched at the way the last word came out, like the tension in the Charming home was somehow her fault.
“Likes of me? Are you referring to me particularly or my family? And I suggest you tread carefully on what you’re about to say.”
“The likes of filthy, dark-hearted cowards,” Snow answered unafraid. “You think I put too high standards? Well you’re right, I did. Because my son is better than you! All of you! You and your…your…”
Belle’s eyes narrowed. “Say it.”
“Your darkness!” Snow said, the word coming out as a gasp. “That darkness…Rumplestiltskin’s darkness…it keeps destroying my life no matter how many times we snuff it out! I wish it would just die already!”
Belle’s heart dropped. So this was how the great Snow White really felt. She rather see them all dead than coexist with them.
“And what about your daughter?” Belle snarked. It was a low blow, and if she wasn’t so mad the words would have never left her mouth. “What about Emma’s darkness? Do you hate that too or does that get a pass from the great Snow White.”
“My daughter’s the Savior,” Snow remarked. “She’s the exact opposite of you.”
“Really? Because if I recall correctly, her potential for darkness was so great you cursed an innocent baby and her mother to boot.”
Snow’s glare wavered. “That was—”
“Sick.” Belle answered. “And you know what? It didn’t change a damn thing? Emma still gave into darkness, still made all the wrong choices that came with it.”
“Emma accepted darkness to save us after your husband tried to destroy all of us!” Snow fought.
“I wasn’t referring to the Dark One’s curse,” Belle stated matter-of-factly. “I was referring to the darkness that has been brewing inside her all her life. The darkness she built to protect herself from everyone who ever hurt her. Baelfire, Rumple and you.”
“Everything I ever did was to protect her!” Snow yelled, her voice cracking. “And I did everything I could to be a good mother—a good friend—to her afterwards!”
“By letting her be with a man who lied to her? Who endangered her family, her son?” Belle retorted. “You led her down the aisle into his arms after finding out he killed David’s father, an event that left him scared. You made him push it aside so you could have your day. Emma didn’t need to get married, Snow, she needed to heal from everything that had happened to her. She needed her mother to listen!”
“I just…she needed…”
“And now she’s in some realm where her family can’t see her,” Belle continued, unable to stop. “Neal was right, you didn’t protect her the way you should have. You were so obsessed with making up for the moments you missed with her that you didn’t care that she was doing everything she did because she was traumatized! How could you not see that as her mother!”
That seemed to be the trigger, the anchor that had been weighing down Snow White’s grief. The woman’s chin began to shake and within a few seconds she was screaming in hysterics.
Belle actually had to jump back, the volume of her cries so loud they threatened to blow out her own hearing.
She watched in horror as the ex-princess crumpled in her library, the door still askew.
Belle stepped over her just enough to close it and allow them true privacy. She could only stare down at her for a moment, this once majestic leader who was nothing but a lump of sorrow at her feet.
Belle had been cruel, she knew that, she felt the lump of guilt began to rise in her throat.
Snow White, despite her faults, was still human, and still healing from her own trauma.
Giving up her child, living nearly 30 years in a lie away from the people she loved, and trying to put back the pieces of her shattered life when she awoke.
Her progress was notable, forgiving Regina, staying by her family’s side during all the various events in the town. Maybe she hadn’t always been the wisest, maybe she’d even been selfish at some points, but she had been doing the best she could.
Belle sighed, leaning down to scoop the sobbing woman into her arms.
“There, there,” she comforted fruitlessly. “Come on.”
She led Snow to a chair behind her circulatory desk, practically dropping her there while she went into the kitchenette for tissues and water.
She returned with a glass and a less-than-comfortable roll of paper towels, handing one to the ex-princess awkwardly.
“Here.”
Snow calmed some, taking the course towel and wiping her red face. She breathed in shakenly, focusing on composing herself.
After a moment Belle grabbed a second chair and sat across from her, hesitating on what to do or say next.
She wasn’t sorry and she wouldn’t apologize, but she hated that Snow had to come to terms with her misdeeds and guilt in such a confrontational setting, and with her at that. Her own home or even Archie’s office seemed more appropriate.
But it was all in the open now, and Belle felt she had a duty to close the door she had snatched open.
“You’re right,” Snow sniffed before Belle could say anything. “I destroyed my family.”
“No,” Belle sighed. “I didn’t mean for you to see it like that.”
“But it’s true,” Snow said with a tired shrug. “I pushed Emma into something she wasn’t ready for and now I’ve lost her. And now I’m about to lose Neal too.”
Belle shook her head, wishing more than anything that he and her son were with them at that moment.
Belle thought about them for a moment, about the last two decades and the time before and all of its obstacles.
“You haven’t lost him,” Belle reassured, her fingers clasped. “I’ve lost a son. I know what if feels like when you realize they’ll never come back.”
Snow tilted her head. “You got Gideon back. You even got to start over with him.”
Belle lifted her head, staring glassily at the woman across from her. “I wasn’t talking about him.”
The confusion faded instantly from Snow’s face as the memory of the fallen man who had impacted both of their lives settled between them.
Belle smiled sadly. “Do you remember that day? When you entered the shop and you told us Baelfire died? You held me, and…that was the last time I felt like I really knew you.”
Snow wiped a fresh tear from her eye. “I didn’t know what to do after he died. All I could do was hold Emma and tell her everything was going to be okay even though I didn’t know if it was or not.”
Belle nodded, remembering how she spent that night in the shop, sobbing into the cot in the backroom until she passed out.
“That…that was the last time I truly felt like her mother,”
Belle blinked, surprised by such a reveal.
It was ironic really. The second she learned of Baelfire’s death was the last time she felt like she had a true friend. Someone else who loved the Dark One, gone.
“I wanted so badly to see her happy again,” Snow continued. “And Hook…he was there…and he…he…”
Belle nodded. “He made appropriate modifications to earn her affection.”
“And eventually he became her only ally because of me,” Snow said with an air of disgust. “Now I don’t even know where she is, how she is.”
Belle sighed. If Gideon ever disappeared like that it would break her.
“Snow,” Belle began. “I know all that’s happened to you is still hurting you. And you’re hurting Neal because of it.” She reached out and gave the woman’s hand a squeeze. “You need to face it all. I had to do the same when Gideon was taken. I had accept my part in hurting Rumple and my son so that I could have hope that we could start over.”
Snow shook her head. “I don’t know if I can. Emma, she…she doesn’t need me anymore.”
“That’s not true,” Belle fought. “Our children will always need us. We can’t fix the past, but we can build a better future.”
Snow could only stare at the woman in front of her. Belle had always been braver than her because she had more to lose. Loving the Dark One was a dangerous game and somehow she won it. Now she had a community that loved and respected her, the same community that looked at Snow White with hesitancy.
Snow had lost the leader they needed at some point, hell, the leader her own family needed.
Somehow, someway, she was going to get her back.
She stood, wiping her eyes a final time.
“I…I need to leave. I need to speak with my husband.”
Belle nodded, standing as well.
Snow moved forward, as if she were going to hug Belle, but Belle took a step back.
Thankfully, Snow seemed to understand. She had a lot to make up for and it would take time.
But really, she realized that Belle was perhaps her truest friend. She had held her accountable today, and had lifted a curtain from her eyes that had been there far too long.
“Good luck,” Belle said. And she truly meant it.
Snow paused outside the library, one last thought weighing on her mind.
“If you see Neal or Gideon before I do,” she began, hesitating a bit. “Could you tell them…they have my blessing?”
Belle tilted her head. It wasn’t quite an apology, but it was good start for the high and mighty ex-princess of Mist Haven.
Belle nodded and sent Snow away with a comforting smile.
They would never be friends, but they knew now where they stood. Belle would hold her with the same contempt that she held with Zelena, Regina and even Emma, but that would be it. Maybe one day that would change, but it was solid relationship for the two of them to have for now.
As Belle locked up the library that night, she felt lighter than she had in years, all the anguish she had felt free from her now.
She smiled a bit as she walked to her car.
She couldn’t wait to get home and tell her husband all about it.
0-0-0-0-0-0
Snow entered the little farm house she and her husband had bought decades ago when the moved out of their little loft apartment.
The house was supposed to be a haven for a new life, a fresh start when their most recent evil had been defeated.
She had imagined raising her son in those safe walls, giving him everything she hadn’t been able to give Emma. She imagined family dinners and quiet nights on the front porch after long, loud days.
She’d gotten all of that, at first, before Emma began to spend less time at the house, before Henry had jumped on his motorcycle and disappeared into the unknown.
She had told herself then that it was just a part of life, her family moving on, but then when Neal began to stray, her acceptance became a panic. She was losing her family, and she looked wrongfully for a scapegoat. The Golds fit the mold. After all, she’d blamed Rumplestiltskin for everything under the sun that had happened in Storybrooke and her family.
But Belle’s talk had lifted that blinder. Rumplestiltskin had made his mistakes and had set to work to fix them. He’d been a good friend to her husband and son all these years, and she’d been too enthralled in her grief to join in on that friendship.
But that was over now.
David looked up when she entered, concerned.
He’d felt…something…in his chest earlier today. Like a piece of the heart he shared with his wife had broken off.
It was unnerving, and if he hadn’t been looking for Neal, he would have ran and found his wife immediately.
He was still angry at her for her outburst at the Golds’ but she was still his wife. His best friend. His everything.
“Snow,” he greeted, relieved.
“We need to pack, a lot. I don’t know how long we’ll be gone.” She instructed, that buried leader insider he creeping back up.
“What?” David said. “Pack for what? What are we doing?”
The ex-princess put her hands on her husband’s shoulders, smiling bravely at him despite the tears in her eyes. He was the one thing she hadn’t lost yet, but she’d come so close, shared heart or not.
She’d hurt him without even realizing it, and she had so much to make up for.
But there’d be time for that.
There’d be time for everything now.
“We’re going to find our daughter,” Snow answered, determined. “We’re going to bring her home.”

Well, here we are. Chapter 5. This chapter was a beast to write. Hopefully, you'll be satisfied with the answers this chapter provides.
Thanks again to my betas, @profdanglaisstuff and @thisonesatellite. I thought they were going to hack this chapter with a machete. Turns out, they wanted me to add a bit more. So that was amazing to hear.
Check out the banner artwork by @gingerchangeling. There is also artwork by @mariakov81 at the end of this chapter.
Enjoy!
Chapter 1 2 3 4
Ao3
Defeating Gideon had been surprisingly easy, if Emma called sacrificing herself and hoping to God and any other gods that were around that her sacrifice meant she would get to live her Happy Beginning with her family and new husband, despite having just been stabbed in the gut. And thank goodness it was True Love’s Kiss worthy, because Emma really hadn’t wanted to die. And considering that was the final battle, she felt it was the least scary out of everything they’d had to face in the past. The Black Fairy just preened and monologued most of the time, while Gideon had his heart stolen, so she couldn’t blame him for him wanting to kill her (she had immediately asked Belle to put a protection spell on his heart, like Regina had with Henry and she had with Hook after their hearts had been taken, which Belle readily agreed to).
But now life was… well it was normal. And normal was not something Emma Swan-Jones (yes, she was hyphenating) had seen in the past few years. And it was... strange. It was strange living a perfectly normal life with Captain Hook as her husband, who insisted on using the iPad to find healthy recipes for dinner since he knew she would eat Pop Tarts or bear claws for breakfast and Granny’s for lunch. It was weird seeing him just lounging about in sleep pants on the weekends when they weren’t working (thankfully, David still worked weekends for them so they could have time for themselves along with the actual Three Musketeers spread throughout the week, who made pretty good deputies), or taking her and Henry out on the Jolly Roger to go fishing, or any other number of domestic fantasies she’d once had about idyllic life in Maine. What wasn’t strange was after a year of domestic bliss when the stick had shown the words ‘pregnant’ and she hadn’t freaked out about it whatsoever.
Because there hadn’t been any danger in over a year, which was the longest the town had gone since she’d arrived. Nothing, nada, zero, zip, zilch. Just some bad dreams which was to be expected after everything they’d gone through in such a short amount of time. And which had made her and Killian a little more carefree. It wasn’t as if they were getting any younger. She was pushing 32 and Killian was… well, they’d agreed he’d be 36 according to the paperwork Regina had magically made for him. Killian hadn’t taken kindly to being on the closer end of 40, but Emma had insisted that it just made him more worldly, and if they did ever venture outside of Storybrooke, he could freely talk about things he had done in context with his age. And now parenthood was going to be part of that.
“When does it get to the good stuff?” Hope huffed, interrupting Henry’s reading of the epilogue of his book. They were sitting in a tent in the woods only a few miles from where Henry was going to meet their parents later that day. Alice seemed to be having the time of her life, completely enthralled with the sequel to her favorite book, which seemed to be the real life account and love story of their parents and the defeat of multiple villains, until the final battle happened three years after Henry brought her to town. She’d read it the entire drive to the campsite and Hope had discovered she was a very enthusiastic reader. She constantly yelled or gasped or cried at something that happened in the book. Hope had gotten a chance to read much of it last night and the rest when the sunlight filtered into their tent that morning. She’d always been an early riser, unlike her mother and Henry. Hope had to admit it had been a fun adventure tale, (although the first few chapters chronicling the first year Emma had been in the town of Storybrooke had been pretty boring and in the last few chapter everyone seemed wildly out of character), but she wasn’t sure if she actually believed this was a true account of anything, like Alice and Henry did. Henry had insisted that he read the final chapter to them together, so they could understand what had happened.
“Not every chapter needs to be action packed or full of chase scenes.” Henry admonished her. “Besides, don’t you want to hear about what happened after your parents' Happy Beginning?” Alice clapped giddily while Hope rolled her eyes. Henry had always been a bit dramatic growing up, but Hope still couldn’t wrap her head around this whole fairytale business Henry was trying to sell her.
Killian was ecstatic to learn he was going to be a father. Although, after everything he’d been through, the thought of having a child was a little daunting. He’d never imagined he would ever become a father. Of course, he and Milah had discussed it, but having a baby while being a pirate would never have worked. Once she had died he’d never even considered it until he met Emma. And now it had finally come to pass that he was being given the opportunity to become a father. He already knew having a child would be the greatest adventure he’d have in his life.
Of course, when the ultrasound indicated they were not only having a girl, but two of them, Killian’s head went a little fuzzy and he had to sit down with his head between his legs so he wouldn’t pass out (Emma had teased him about it for days after and brought it up to everyone they came across).
Twins!
They were having twins. When he’d finally got his head on straight he picked Emma up in his arms (again reminding her he’d carried rum barrels bigger than her) and twirled her around. He was excited, so excited. Not only was he going to get the chance to be a father, but he’d get to do it twice in one go! His dreams quickly became consumed by little girls with his hair and Emma’s eyes, or Emma’s hair and his eyes. They’d be sailing, play sword fighting, drawing, all the things he wanted to teach them. They quickly agreed on names for the two girls. Alice for his mother and Hope because of everything they had gone through and the hope that had gotten them through. Emma had insisted that they use the names Cleo and Margaret for middle names, to honor two influential women in her life. So, from then on, Baby A became Alice Margaret, and Baby B was Hope Cleo.  For the next few months everything was complete bliss.
When Emma hit her third trimester, her mother, knowing that twins could come early, insisted on hosting Emma a baby shower. Emma agreed on the condition that it was a small affair. No grand balls or carnivals like she was wont to do. And so, on a sweltering hot day in early September, Emma entered Granny’s which had been closed down just for them, to find a large group of women waiting for her. Snow had stayed true to her word and not invited the whole town. Emma was relieved to see many familiar faces, including Ruby and Dorothy who had used the ruby slippers to come to the event, Belle who had brought a two-year-old baby Gideon with her (even though it still freaked Emma out slightly that this tiny child had once tried to kill her), Ashley and Aurora with their broods (they had both added one more child over the past few years), Elsa and Anna, and even Mulan had made the trip, though her girlfriend, Merida, had refused the invitation, Emma couldn’t blame her since she’d only known Emma when she was dark.
Things had been going great. Regina had made her lasagna, much to Granny’s chagrin. Zelena was even giving helpful tips despite Emma having sped up her pregnancy (she reminded Emma that she had done midwifery research when she’d first come to town). It was nice that everyone in town was actually getting along despite the terrifying last few years. Emma really shouldn’t have been surprised when it all went to hell.
Alice gasped so loudly that Hope actually jumped from her seated position on the tent. Her heart had immediately started pounding in her chest.
“Geez, Alice!” Hope said perturbed. “Lighten up. It’s just a story.”
“It’s not just a story.” Alice argued. “We’re reading about our mother. If anything, you should be the one more concerned as you got to actually grow up with her.” She sniffled as her anger gave way to tears. Hope almost wanted to roll her eyes, but she knew how strongly Alice felt about this all being real. Hope still wasn’t sure what Henry’s endgame was here, but she did know that she and Alice were sisters. She knew that with every fiber of her being. But Snow White and Prince Charming were their grandparents? The Evil Queen had cast a spell to bring them all to their land to get her happy ending? Their mother was married to Captain Hook (considering Alice knew her father had a false hand, she seemed quite surprised that’s who their father turned out to be), a former villain turned hero? It all seemed a bit much. She hoped there would be a simpler explanation somewhere down the road, but she was determined to let Henry play out his little fantasy for the time being until he brought their parents to them later that day.
“I’m sorry.” Hope sighed, placating Alice. “Please continue, Henry.”
A swirl of golden smoke appeared in front of them. Emma immediately went on the defensive, a ball of white light forming in her hand. She could see Regina conjuring a fireball at the strange plume of smoke and out of the corner of her eye she saw Granny duck behind the counter for her crossbow.
As the figure in the smoke came into view, Emma took in the mass of dark curls framing an olive face from under a black hood. The woman had big eyes with heavy lids and red lips that almost put Ruby’s to shame. Her burgundy gown seemed out of place for the modern town of Storybrooke, in that it looked like it belonged more in Camelot than even the Enchanted Forest. It was trimmed in the exact same shade of gold that her swirl of smoke had been. Emma realized she’d been staring too long at the woman who had just crashed her baby shower, but she had the overwhelming sensation thrumming through her body that she knew this woman somehow.
“Who are you and what do you want?” Emma growled at the woman who had made no attempt to do anything after her grand entrance. The room had gone impossibly quiet. Even the children who had attended with their mothers weren’t making a peep. Granny still stood behind the counter, crossbow in hand, but she too wasn’t making any comments. Regina still had a fireball ready to go, it’s fire crackling at her fingertips, but nothing else happened.
“I’ve slowed down time.” The woman said with a deep voice, one that seemed as soothing as a lullaby, but chilled Emma to the bone. The voice seemed familiar to her as well, although she couldn’t recall from where. “They can’t perceive what we are doing right now, but that’s why they’re not responding to me and only you know what’s going on.” The woman smirked at her. Emma had the impression she was supposed to be impressed.
She wasn’t.
“I’m only going to ask you one more time.” Emma said, using all her strength to pull her hand back, a ball of magic swirling within. Her other hand instinctively went over her stomach to shield her children. “Who are you and what do you want?”
“Oh, my sweet dear.” The woman said in what Emma assumed was supposed to be a motherly tone. It sounded sweet and calming, but Emma could hear the evil lurking underneath. “Haven’t your dreams told you why I’m here yet?”
A cold chill ran down Emma’s spine as she realized how she knew this woman. She’d been in her dreams!  Floating above her, the woman would chase her through the streets of Storybrooke threatening to take something from her. Something that would…. make the woman stronger, if she recalled the dream correctly..  Emma had dismissed it as an anxiety dream; the woman representing any number of villains that could spring up and ruin her happiness. But here she was, in the flesh, and already Emma had failed to protect anyone around her.
“You asked why I was here.” The woman said, her voice suddenly going from calm and soothing to cold and calculating. It now sounded like nails on a chalkboard to Emma’s ears and she couldn’t suppress another shiver that ran down her body. The woman gave a simpering smile at her. It made Emma sick to her stomach. She still had her magic at the ready though. She was not giving this woman an inch.
“My name is Gothel…”
“Like from Rapunzel?” Emma spoke without even thinking. Gothel turned to her slightly frazzled from Emma’s outburst, but schooled her features back to the smile that creeped Emma out to no end.
“I have never bartered a child for greens, nor kept one in my tower. Nor have I kept a child in my tower to keep my youth.” She said menacingly, her face pinched. “Yes, I have done my research into what your realm thinks of me.” Gothel’s features changed back to look like a woman who would dote on a child rather than hold one against their will. “I am simply an ordinary elemental witch. Content to commune with the four elements and let them use me for what they need.”
Emma did not miss what she had said.
“And what do the elements need?” Emma was quickly losing her patience. And she had to pee. Two babies didn’t leave a lot of room for her bladder.
Gothel smiled at her. “I knew you’d understand.” She practically purred. “It’s not what they need, Emma dear, but what they have told me. Some very disturbing things they have told me, and unfortunately for you, it means that your children are a danger to me.” Her blue-gray eyes flashed almost black. She slowly made her way up behind Emma and spoke directly into her ear.  “This is not a warning, this is an absolute truth. Enjoy what little time you and your children will have together, because I will not let the whispers come true.” And with that Gothel poofed out of the diner in her golden smoke.
Immediately, the patrons of the party sprang back to life, almost speeding up comically. Everyone looked around for whomever had come from the golden smoke, but all they saw was Emma crumpling to the ground holding her stomach and sobbing.
Alice gasped as Henry read the last part and grabbed Hope’s hand, as if the move would comfort her as well. Hope was in no need of comforting. She just wanted to get to the end of the story so she could understand. The story was taking place in early September and Hope knew they were born in late September so there was no suspense if this was supposed to be about their birth. She knew her mother was alive and well, so she knew nothing bad was going to happen to her. This all just seemed... redundant.
She could see Henry staring at her, gauging her reaction. Alice seemed close to tears and Hope couldn’t understand why. She’d never even met her mother.
“So what is this evil supposed to represent, an almost miscarriage? We were born, so obviously everything is okay.” She rolled her eyes at both Henry’s eagerness and Alice’s sadness.
“Wow!” said Henry with a shocked expression that then turned into a smile. “You really are just like mom. She didn’t believe me either.” He looked back down at the book, preparing to continue reading. “Don’t worry, the interesting part is coming up.”
Being at the hospital, not knowing what was happening to her or her babies was the scariest thing Emma had ever faced in her life. And that was saying a lot considering everything she’d faced. But she wouldn’t know how to even look at Killian if they lost their girls. The men had gone out on the Jolly Roger during the party, taking a pleasure cruise, so to speak, so Regina had to poof out to them to let them know what had happened. Killian came rushing into her room, and grabbed her hand, and a fresh wave of tears spilled down her face.
The barrage of questions came from his lips immediately. “Are you okay? Are the babies okay? What did the doctor say? What happened? Is there a new villain? Are you okay?” It actually made Emma’s heart sing, the level of concern he had for her.
“I think I’m okay, same with the babies. Whale just assessed me to make sure I had nothing external wrong. We’re going to do an ultrasound to make sure the babies are good.” She paused for a moment, dragging his hand to her cheek, something that always soothed her. “It seems there is a new villain in town. Her name is Gothel.” He quirked an eyebrow since she had shown him Tangled. Gothel had not been anyone he’d ever come across in his travels, so they’d figured she’d been made up for the story. “She said our babies are a danger to her and she won’t let whatever is supposed to happen, happen. She said this wasn’t a warning. Just the truth.” Her voice started to waiver again.
Killian pressed a kiss to her forehead as she let the tears fall again. How many times was she going to put him through this? How many times was there going to be danger that he could do nothing to prevent from happening? But instead of comforting her some more or telling her everything would be okay like he was prone to do, he stood up, his body vibrating with anger, his hand pulled away and fisted on his jeans.
“I’m going to talk to the Blue Fairy.” He said suddenly. “After Whale tells us that the girls are alright, because they are going to be alright, Swan. This...Gothel... wouldn’t have told you that they’d be a danger to her if they weren’t going to be okay. This was a scare tactic. An intimidation. And I will not have my family worried about some impending doom. We’ve come too far for this to happen now.”  Emma reached for his hook and pulled him toward her.
“Just stay with me for now. We’ll worry about this when we know everything is alright.”
But according to the Blue Fairy it wasn’t alright.
“Well, she’s definitely more than an elemental witch.” Emma and Killian stood in the Blue Fairy’s office, which was covered with large tomes, smaller books, and even a few scrolls.
“So you’ve heard of her then?” Killian asked darkly.
“Yes and no. She goes by many names, Gothel being one of them. Gothel actually means godmother and being an elemental witch means she’s most likely descended from a forest nymph or dryad. Possibly even from Gaia herself.” Emma saw Killian immediately get a worried look on his face.
“I take it Gaia is bad?” Emma asked, suddenly feeling the weight of not finishing high school or going to college coming back to rear its ugly head at her. Killian grimaced and she could see him thinking of the best way to tell her what she was not understanding.
“Gaia means earth in Greek.” He stated plainly. It didn’t take Emma nearly as long to figure out what that meant as she thought it would.
“Wait! You think Gothel is descended from Mother Earth?” she exclaimed.
“I think she’s exactly who she says she is,” the Blue Fairy said before Emma could spiral out. “But I think she’s a lot more powerful than she’s letting on.” She paused and gave a sigh before continuing on. “I found a prophecy in an old book. Probably as old as me. I think it’s the prophecy that Gothel is alluding to, but I need to study it first before I decide if it actually pertains to you. I don’t want to mislead you or give you false hope or false terror if it’s not the correct one.”
Emma wanted to rip the paper out of the Blue Fairy’s to read what it said. She could feel Killian tense up next to her, most likely thinking the same thing. But she calmed herself. How many times had she ‘jumped to conclusions’ before examining all the evidence first? It was one of her biggest flaws when she first started sheriffing and she wasn’t going to start doing it again. She took a deep breath to calm herself.
“Okay.” Emma said, squeezing Killian’s hand to let him know that they needed to let the Blue Fairy do her job. “We’ll trust your judgement. Just let us know as soon as possible so we can come up with some sort of a plan. In the meantime,” Emma said, turning toward Killian. “I’ll put a protection spell around our house, the bug, and the sheriff station.” She turned back to the Blue Fairy. “Do you know of any protection spells we can use on ourselves or the twins?”
The Blue Fairy shook her head. “Unfortunately, protection spells can only protect objects and people within them. And you know from personal experience that they aren’t one-hundred percent effective.” The Blue Fairy said. Emma nodded, remembering her experience with Regina and her mother, Cora, in Gold’s shop years ago.
“Here.” The Blue Fairy said, conjuring up some chalk and pressing it into her hands. “This might help. It’s infused with fairy dust. It may look like glittery chalk, but it’ll have a little more kick to it than a spell and regular chalk.” Emma squeezed it and mouthed a silent ‘thanks’ to the Blue Fairy. Killian gave a slight bow.
“Thank you Lady Blue.” he said before they turned and left.
Hope was about to scream into her pillow. She checked her watch, noting that there was another hour before Henry had to leave to meet her mother and Alice’s father. She wondered if this epilogue would ever get to the point. She still had no clue why she and Alice had been separated and why their ‘parents’ didn’t remember each other. This whole thing was getting more and more absurd by the moment. Now Gothel had been brought into it? She remembered seeing that movie as a kid and not really thinking that Gothel had been a subpar villain compared to some of the other Disney villains out there. She knew in the real version the witch had no purpose for taking the baby except in trade. But in Henry’s version it was seeming like she had no real connection except for a random prophecy. Now she felt like they were veering into Harry Potter territory.
Henry must have sensed her frustration, again, because he paused his reading to stare at her. “I promise, Hope, this will all make sense soon,” was all he said before diving back into the book.
Emma and Killian spent the next few weeks in fear. The twins weren’t due until mid-October and they had no idea if Gothel would come around again. Both Emma and Killian, plus the Blue Fairy, Regina, Gold and David had been trying to figure out where Gothel had come from and how she had gotten into Storybrooke. Once they realized that the waters that came from the well were the same waters in Lake Nostos, Tiny had managed to take some of the burned beans he’d saved from years ago and restore them. They now had plenty of beans to make portals to go all over the realms again, but they were highly regulated by David, Snow, and Regina. People in Storybrooke could travel by portal, but, as far as anyone in town knew, no one from any other realm could travel to them. Usually someone from Storybrooke took a portal to the other realm, gave them a bean and took another portal home. They didn’t want beans falling into the wrong hands and becoming a black market trade item again. Of course, there always seemed to be beans regardless. But, there were only a few select people who knew about Storybrooke. How in the world would Gothel know about them and how in the world would she find them?
While everyone else was working on the Gothel problem, Killian had discovered online that some really rare phenomena were going to be happening in the night sky. “There a Harvest Moon tonight!” he yelled animatedly. “I wonder if it will be orange like a true Harvest Moon or red like the Blood Moon?” Emma loved when he got passionate about astronomy, the man who was once guided by the stars. “It’s also a Super Moon,” He said almost in a teacher-like voice, “because it’s so close to your realm. And….” he paused for what Emma assumed he felt was an even more amazing discovery  “It’s also a lunar eclipse!” Killian grinned widely.  “Even in my hundreds of years, Swan, I’ve never seen anything like this!”. Emma could only hope that she’d be able to stay awake for it.
Killian had just started cooking an early dinner so they could just gaze at the night sky when the first contraction hit.
“Are you okay, Emma?” Killian dropped the mixing spoon and ran over to her.
“I…I think I just had a contraction.” Emma was concerned. The babies weren’t due for another month, but she also knew twins could come early.
“Do we need to head to the hospital?” Killian asked, clearly nervous and concerned.
“No.” She said, kissing him on the cheek. “Water hasn’t even broken yet. Let’s have dinner. Lord knows they won’t let me eat in the hospital while I’m in labor.” Emma was surprised at how calm she was over this. Considering the last time she’d given birth she’d been chained to the bed and not even taken a look at Henry, she was feeling very empowered. Being in charge of her pregnancy the way she wanted to be had a way of doing that. They sat down to eat for their last meal as a family of two (Henry was at Regina’s, but they’d both be at the hospital when they felt it was time to go), when the contractions started ramping up.
“I think it’s time to head to the hospital.” Emma said. Killian grabbed the go bag that they’d packed and headed to his old Jeep Cherokee they’d bought on a trip to Boston.
“That’s what kind of car Papa drives!” Alice exclaimed, interrupting Henry just as the tension was getting good.
Henry smiled at her. Hope was feeling something akin to anticipation. She felt like they were finally getting somewhere in the story with their impending births. She knew that had to reveal something.
“Are you alright, Hope?” Henry asked, concerned. “You’ve been really quiet.”
“I just want to finish the book!” She said through gritted teeth. She really needed to know how this pertained to them, and all of Alice’s disruptions were starting to grate on her nerves.
Henry nodded at her and Alice and continued.
Alice Margaret Swan-Jones arrived at 9:07 on September 27th, 2015. The lights flickered around the hospital on Emma’s final push. Whale had been concerned (once Alice had been bundled up and placed in Emma’s arms) that it could have been Gothel, but Emma assured him that it was most likely her magic, and that the same thing had happened when Henry was born, only she hadn’t been aware it was her magic at the time.
There was a perfect view of the eclipse from the window in their room. Emma and Killian watched as the almost blood red moon traveled across the sky and then disappeared when it was caught in the Earth’s shadow. Emma was glad she had this rare occurrence, plus her new daughter to keep her mind busy while she waited for her other daughter to make her appearance. Hope seemed to be taking her time, and it was making Emma nervous. She knew she could ask Killian to invite Henry and her parents and any other number of people who were anxiously awaiting updates into her room to meet Alcie, but she really wanted to wait until both babies were out. Whale had also started talking about a c-section if Hope didn’t make her presence known soon, as twins usually were born within minutes of each other, not hours. Right as the moon started to peak out from the shadow of the Earth, a huge contraction hit Emma again. It seemed Hope was finally ready.
Hope Cleo Swan-Jones was welcomed into the world at 12:27 on September 28th, 2015. Emma and Killian were astounded when they realized that their girls were born on separate days, but they were just thrilled that they were safe and healthy. Emma had almost hoped her relatives and friends had gone home instead of waiting around, but they were all there, ready to see the newest additions to the Swan-Jones clan.
Henry insisted he be the first to see his new sisters, followed by Snow and David. Even Regina was permitted to hold them, something Emma could see she cherished, being allowed to be part of their family. It was almost three in the morning by the time everyone started to filter out and the Blue Fairy arrived, a look of despair written on her face.
“What is it?” Killian immediately asked. He had Alice in his arms and hugged her protectively.
“The prophecy is as I feared.” She looked down at the floor, almost as if the prophecy she suspected belonged to them was her fault.
“How can you be sure?” Emma asked. She had been drowsy just a few seconds ago, but now it was if caffeine had been put into her IV drip.
The Blue Fairy pulled out a thin piece of parchment from thin air and handed it to them. It was written in an elegant script, something Emma would associate more with a love letter rather than a prophecy.
When the moon becomes red with blood,
And darkness covers the land
Two will be born.
One ere the witching hour and one hind
To conquer nature’s sinister conjurer
By separation will make stronger
And reconciled on the day and night the true harvest moon meets.
Emma read through it several times, not quite understanding. Her mind was swimming from the events of the day and that adrenaline jolt she’d just had was now coming down. She was desperate to know and understand, but she just couldn’t focus at the moment.
“Killian, take Hope.” And she immediately passed out.
“Is it over?” Hope wondered, thinking that was an odd place to end the epilogue.
“Almost.” said Henry, but before continuing on he asked, “Did you understand the prophecy?”
Hope thought about it. “The moon becoming red with blood and the darkness is obviously the Harvest Moon and lunar eclipse,” she said.
“And the witching hour is usually midnight.” Alice interjected. “So it’s saying one would be born before midnight and the other after, just like we were.” But I’m not sure about the rest.” Alice frowned.
“Well then.” Henry said, noting that there were only a few pages left until the book was finished. “Let’s see what we can find out.”
Emma awoke to sunlight streaming in her window and Killian and the Blue Fairy deep in a whispered conversation. At first she was confused about why the Blue Fairy was in their bedroom, but as her arm hit the guard rail of her bed, she remembered that she’d given birth to the twins that night. She quickly turned to see the girls both sleeping soundly in their bassinets to the side of her, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
“Ah! There’s the happy little mother!” Killian whispered loudly and got up to kiss her on the forehead.
“What have you learned?” Emma asked, keen to understand the prophecy and how to defeat Gothel.
“Well, we know this prophecy pertains to us because it mentions the twins and the fact that they’d be born last night on either side of the eclipse during the Harvest Moon. All that business in the sky last night was apparently a welcoming celebration for them.” Killian joked halfheartedly.
Emma shook her head to clear away the last vestiges of sleep that clung to her.
“May I see the prophecy, please?” She asked, holding out her hand for the parchment. The Blue Fairy handed it to her. Both she and Killian tried to say something about it, but Emma put out her hand to stop them. She needed to look at the prophecy and come to her own conclusions before she heard what they had to say.
“Okay. I understand that the first half pertains to our girls, but what about the second half? Nature’s sinister conjurer seems to be a fancy way of saying Gothel. Being separated from something makes her stronger? And what does it mean by a true Harvest Moon?”
Killian stepped forward and took the prophecy back from Emma’s hand. “That’s what we’re trying to figure out, love. The Blue Fairy and I have already hypothesized what it could mean. But, don’t forget, prophecies don’t necessarily mean what you think they mean.” He placed the prophecy down on the side table and took a picture of it with his phone so they could study it more later.
“So what do you hypothesize then?” Emma asked curiously. Her brain was still too muddled to even guess at what the second half could mean.
“Well,” the Blue Fairy began, “judging from her cryptic message at your shower, we think that she thinks your twins can do some damage to her, or vanquish her in some way. Nobody seems to have heard of her in any other realm that I’ve been able to reach out to. And the only Gothel people know of here is the Rapunzel fairy tale, which, from all accounts, seems to have been completely made up and not based in any truth.”
It didn’t make any sense to Emma. Why would a seemingly low-level witch, that didn’t seem to have made any sort of name for herself in either the good or evil camp, want to hurt her children? Why would a prophecy be written about her children defeating this unknown witch, who by all accounts hadn’t done anything to anyone yet?
Yet.
“Have you looked into other prophecies that might pertain to Gothel? Anything about an elemental witch or nature’s sinister conjurer like our prophecy calls her? Maybe she hasn’t turned evil yet. Or maybe this whole thing leads her to turning evil.” Emma said, letting her thoughts take over.
“A self-fulfilling prophecy you mean?” Killian asked. Emma could see his mind working. “Like that Oedipus Rex fellow who killed his own father and married his mother?” Emma laughed at one of the few outside of fairy tale literary references she actually recognized. She was about to say something when a loud wail pierced the air.
“Looks like one of our little ladies has awoken from her slumber.” Killian said, walking over to the bassinet and picking up Alice, who was practically eating her fist.
“She’s hungry.” Emma said, holding out her arms for Killian to put Alice in. The Blue Fairy rose and told them she’d look into other prophecies that might pertain to Gothel. Emma got Alice all ready to nurse when another wail was heard.
“Ready to try and change a diaper?” A nurse said, entering the room. Emma laughed at the horror-stricken look upon Killian’s face.
Hope let out a deep sigh. This epilogue was getting them nowhere, and it was too long. Hadn’t anyone ever told Henry that the epilogue should wrap things up and not bore the reader? But Henry wasn’t paying attention to her, nor was Alice. They were totally engrossed in the story that Henry was reading. Hope checked her watch and noticed that Henry would need to leave in half an hour. She really hoped the story would be finished by then, though that seemed impossible at this rate.
It was two years before Gothel made herself known again.
Two years in which the twins learned to crawl, and walk, and talk, and gained teeth, and grew hair, and had their own little personalities.
Two years in which Snow insisted on getting as many pictures of the girls as possible in matching outfits that she insisted on buying for them.
Two years of Henry writing down every small story that happened and filling books as the author.
Two years of silence in which Gothel was almost forgotten.
Almost.
It was a month after the twins turned two that the Blue Fairy started hearing whispers from the Enchanted Forest about a new evil that had taken root. Just small things at first, nothing she even felt was necessary to tell Emma and Killian about. A spark that ignited a forest fire, but no casualties. Spells that seemed to have gone wrong leading to bad weather, or higher or lower  tides that affected the lands. But then, the reports escalated to the decimating of crops, the killing of livestock, the burning of entire forests. It seemed the ‘elemental’ witch was using the elements to drive out the citizens of what she was now calling ‘her’ forest.
Emma had started having nightmares about her daughters being taken away from her, or trapped in a tower that she couldn’t reach. The worst were the dreams where she and Killian and the twins were separated and she couldn’t find them all to put their family back together. She would cling to Killian crying while he stroked her hair and kissed the top of her head, reminding her that they were safe, while showing her their sleeping girls in their cribs through the baby monitor.
After one such night, Emma and Killian were rudely awoken by a pounding on their front door. This immediately set the twins off, which is why Emma was very rude when she flung the door open.
“WHAT THE….” she started, but then saw the Blue Fairy standing before her looking as though she hadn’t slept in weeks. Her clothes were wrinkled, her eyes had purple circles around them, and her usually neat and tidy hair looked like she’d stuck her fingers in an electrical socket.
“I’ve figured it out.” She said, not waiting for an invitation into the house, but just barging in and heading to the kitchen table.
Emma looked perplexed as Killian came in holding both girls on either side of him. He handed Hope to Emma while he put Alice in her high chair.
“Figured out the prophecy?” Killian asked, gathering items to make breakfast for them all.
The Blue Fairy nodded.“Everything! Who Gothel is. Why she’s after you. Why we haven’t been able to find anything about her previously!” Emma barely remembered to place Hope in her high chair before sitting down, her mind whirling.
“I’ve been wracking my brain trying to figure out why and how she came to you two years ago, when she was unknown to anyone. It didn’t make any sense. Even the prophecy I found was written by a seer only a few months before Gothel came to you. And then there was only recent happenings that suggested that Gothel was fairly new, so I went to the Enchanted Forest and consulted with an Oracle.” She paused, Emma inferred, to collect her thoughts.
“The Gothel that came to see you was much more powerful than the Gothel that is currently trying to terrorize the Enchanted Forest. She was able to cross realms and slow down time. Not even Regina or the Dark One at the heights of their power could do something like that. Rumplestiltskin had to get Regina to curse the entire Enchanted Forest in order to cross realms. Gothel, at this point and time does not have the capability to do this.” Hope banged on her tray, startling them all.
“You’re saying at this point and time.” Killian said as he cracked eggs for breakfast. Emma had to admire how he could stay so domestic while being told about someone who was trying to harm their children. “I’m assuming that’s not just for dramatic effect.”
“You would be correct. The Gothel that visited you came from the future. That child she bartered for in her story? Used to make the same kind of time traveling spell Zelena attempted to do. According to the Oracle, she’s been studying up on you and your family ever since she came into possession of the prophecy and figured out who was going to destroy her. It seems she’ll become quite the vicious ruler, even worse than Regina, if that’s possible. She’s trying to recover the land of her foremothers by ridding it of all humans. It seems our theory about her being a descendent of Gaia is true and she’s reclaiming Gaia’s land for all elemental witches because we have destroyed it too much for her liking.”
Emma tried to wrap her head around what the Blue Fairy was telling her. A very sizable foe had traveled back in time for the express purpose of warning her that her daughters were a threat and that she would be coming after them because of a prophecy. She knew she must be missing something, because she was feeling very much like Harry Potter learning about why Voldemort had attacked him as a baby, but having not understood that he fulfilled the prophecy just by going after Harry. Had Gothel shown her hand by warning them?
“So, what does all this mean?” Killian asked, bringing over a bowl of scrambled eggs to the table on top of plates for everyone. He scooped some onto the girls trays and then plated some for himself and Emma, the Blue Fairy shaking her head when he offered her some.
“It means she’s going to try and separate us all at some point, according to the prophecy.” Emma said matter-of-factly.
A grim mood settled over them, the twins too young to understand happily eating their eggs with their hands.
The Blue Fairy bid them farewell and promised she’d do more research into how to avoid the prophecy, but Emma knew that prophecies were usually unavoidable, but could often be circumvented to a degree.
Unfortunately, it was too late.
It was the next day when Gothel came back. Emma, Regina, and the Blue Fairy used all the magic they could to keep her at bay, but her magic was much too strong. She had all four elements on her side to work with, and their magic was not enough to defeat the original source of magic.
After weeks of Gothel beating the town down with rainstorms, hurricanes, carnivorous plants, and almost anything else from nature that could be thrown at them, it was Regina who finally had the idea for them to leave Storybrooke. Gothel’s magic wouldn’t work outside of the town. Emma was adamant that they stay and fight. She couldn’t leave the people that she loved to fight this witch without her. But even her parents begged her to get out of town after weeks of Gothel attacking them. They’d holed up in Regina’s crypt, protected by blood magic, the one type of magic Gothel didn’t seem to be able to break. But because of the high price blood magic required, they couldn’t use it to protect the whole town.
“It’s the only way, Emma,” Snow and David pleaded with her. “We can let you know when we’ve defeated her or figured out how you and the girls can defeat her. Please.” Snow was crying into Emma’s shoulder. Seeing how much her parents were scared for her finally got her to change her mind. She and Killian packed up all they could into her tiny, yellow bug and into Killian’s Jeep. They would head out of town the next morning. Henry insisted on coming with them, much to Regina’s chagrin. But he was 17 and wanted to see more of the world and help protect his little sisters.
Emma was reminded of their goodbyes at the town line when Pan had cursed the town and she and Henry had to leave while everyone went back to the Enchanted Forest. Only this time, she had her husband and children with her, and the Snow Queen’s Scroll to get them back in when the threat of Gothel was gone. She would still be able to talk to her family and friends on the phone, or even video chat. Everything was going to be okay.
Emma had Hope and Henry waiting in the Bug, while Killian had Alice in his Jeep. They were about to cross the town line when Gothel appeared, floating in front of them. She threw a bolt of her magic below her directly onto the town line stopping them in their tracks, cackling the whole time.
“You think you can run from me and my magic?” She threw her head back in a shriek, her black curls whipping all around her in a black halo.
Everything seemed to be going in slow motion. Emma wondered if Gothel had slowed down time again, but she realized it was just the fear of the moment. Emma got out of the car, her magic crackling in her hands.
“This ends now!” Emma said angrily. She was tired of this. Tired of the fear that had hung over them for so long. She just wanted to defeat this bitch and go back to her normal life.
“You wanted to separate yourselves from your family to defeat me, fine! I’ll make sure you are separated from everyone. No one will even remember you were here.” And with that she pulled out a bottle from her dress pocket and uncorked it.
“No one here will remember you and you won’t even remember each other.” The liquid from the bottle had begun to bubble and golden smoke started to pour forth from it. “This whole town will never remember the Swan-Jones family. And you will only know who you leave town with.” Emma’s eyes widened with realization that if they left town she wouldn’t know Killian or Alice, and they wouldn’t know her, Hope, and Henry.
“Emma, Killian, you have to leave!” Regina shouted at them. Snow and David nodded in agreement, tears streaming down their faces. “The prophecy says you’ll defeat her, somehow you’ll figure it out, even without your memories. Now go!”
Emma and Killian looked at each other, both of them now realizing that they would not know each other once they crossed the town line. That their love story would not get a happy ending. And that their twins would both grow up without one of them.
“I love you, Swan.” Killian said from where he stood next to the Jeep, his hand on the handle ready to get back in. “Never forget that.”
Emma nodded, tears streaming down her face. “I love you too. We will have our happy ending.” They smiled at each other, not even having enough time for one last kiss. Emma sat herself in the front seat and the both drove through the golden fog over the town line together.
Emma only vaguely remembered the Jeep that kept up with her most of the way on her trip down to Boston. She was too concerned with how worried Henry seemed to be about their move, probably still reeling from Neal’s death a few weeks prior. She hoped their move to a new place would help him find the peace that he so desperately sought.

A list of my favourite fictional grey characters (not in order) SPOILER ALERT!
Regina Mills (Once Upon A Time)
There is a reason why Regina is called «The Evil Queen» She was pure evil. A murderer, a kidnapper, a rapist, how could I like her? Well it wasnt before season 3 I started to like her. It took a lot of time. And I suppose I will never fully love her after she raped Graham for...years... and murdered people - children when she was a tiny bit frustrated. I would even say that she is irredeemable. And I thought her redemtion arc was unrealistic in the beginning, and for God’s sake, she should not have been crowned The Good Queen in season 7. But she tried to change so hard for Henry, she tried to redeem herself. Tried to be a good mother for a change. She saved multiple lives and souls. She didnt completely redeem herself, I must admit it. But she tried so hard and I feel like she deserves something from that. She eventually became a very good mother, even though it was a little late since Henry was already 12 when she became one. She was still a bitter bitch and blamed innocent people for unfortunate things that happened to her (Zelena, Mary Margaret, Emma) but by season 7, she became something more than that. She became half good. Grey. And even though she didnt completely redeem herself, she came close. Also, I love her sassy personality, she should be crowned The Sassy Queen, not The Good Queen.
Rumplestiltskin (Once Upon A Time)
The Dark One who after 7 seasons became one of the greatest heroes in OUAT. The man who was known as the village coward because he ran away from the Ogre War and was too afraid to fight for his wife became one of the bravest men. Like Regina, he was a murderer. He was super manipulative with all his deals and the «all magic comes with a price, dearie» thing. He manipulated people into getting themselves killed. Before he became The Dark One, he was a good man with a pure heart. But the power of the dagger took over him and his heart was all black. He was power sick. He always wanted power, but not for selfish reasons. He felt like he needed power to protect his son Bealfire/Neal and his wife Milah, but when he took that power, the darkness came over him and he, after time, became evil. It wasn’t before he met Belle French his heart showed a little bit of light. As he said, she was his light in an ocean of darkness. Their relationship was problematic and selfish in the beginning. He manipulated her into thinking he changed (which you know i detest *cough* James Potter) Rumple loved power more than he loved her, at least in season 4. He too often chose it over her, until season 6 when he started to properly redeem himself. His redemtion arc took over 300 years but it came in the end. His love for her changed A LOT. In the other seasons, his love was unhealthy and selfish. But in season 6 and 7, he changed a lot. This time it wasnt only for Belle, but Gideon too. They helped him let go of power and in season 7, he tried so hard to get rid of the dagger and the power so that he could live a normal life with his family. And after Belle died, he didn’t return to the dagger or the dark side. He helped the good side to defeat Drizella and the other villians in that season. He even became a father figure to Alice. And in the end he sacrificed himself to save Killian’s (Nook) life. And he got reunited with Belle. He is the most interesting character in OUAT, no doubt there.
Sawyer/James Ford (LOST)
Sawyer is without a doubt one of my fave characters from LOST (after Charlie and John) in his background, he was a thief and manipulated woman to believe he loved them, just to take all their money. (Maybe except Cassidy, since he fell in love with her later, but he still manipulated her AND got her pregnant) He’s a real asshole. Buuut - then he became an entirely different (and better) man. He meets Kate Austen and I feel like his love for her changes his character. In the beginning he was a bit of a perve with her (i mean, walking straight towards her completely naked...) he doesnt develope much in the 1 season, but later (beginning in the 3 season) he becomes quite selfless and protective. In season (was it 4? I dont quite remember) he falls in love again with Juliet Burke, and heeeeell, she was good for him. He also developes a nice relationship with Claire Littleton (platonic) he becomes protective of her. He attemts to comfort Hurley after Charlie’s death. In the rest of the seasons he is the born leader. He puts the team before himself (like when he sacrificed his chance to escape the Island) and in the paralell universe he is absolutely the best.
Heathcliff (Wuthering Heights)
Okay, no he’s not exactly a grey character since he’s a lot more dark than light, but I love him too much to not put him here. Differently from the other character I’ve mentioned above, Heathcliff doesnt have a redemtion. He died an awful person. He abused and manipulated a lot of people. Before he became this asshole, he was a much better person. He was an ass to those who deserved it (Hindley, That bitch deserved to die so young. Edward was a kind man, but I don’t like him, sooo... nevermind) The way he treated Isabella was sickening and awful, she had every right to leave him and take Linton away and hate him. I Don’t like Isabella, but she never deserved to be treated that way. His love for Cathy was unhealthy, but it was true and he would do so much for her. (They kinda remind me of Snily, so ofc I ship it) Heathcliff went through so much trauma in his life and never recovered. After Cathy died, he was practically dead too, then he killed himself years later. His life made me cry for days, especially the ending. He is such an interesting character with so many layers.
Ulrich Nielsen (Dark)
(Before I say anything, I haven’t finished the entire show yet, so this is gonna be short and probably not 100% correct)
To be honest, I don’t like Ulrich at all as a person. I look at him and I see a fully grown up man with no remorse for what he did to Regina as a teen. He cheated on his wife with a woman he didnt even love. He tried to murder a CHILD who hadnt done anything wrong (yet) because he thought he was going to kill his brother and son in the future (okay, i get why he did it. He was desperate to get Mikkel back and the whole time-tarvelig thing was extremely stressfull) BUT HE COULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING A LOT LESS HARMFULL TO PREVENT EVERYTHING TO HAPPEN. Despite this, i love him as a character. He is so interesting and there are times were I have to remind myself why i dont like him. He is brave and intelligent and... so fucking hot as a teen.
Hannah Kahnwald (Dark)
(Again, havent watched the whole show yet)
This girl is MESSED UP. When she was fourteen, she accused Ulrich of being a rapist, which is a very serious accusation and then blamed it on Regina who she knew was a victim of Ulrich and Katharina’s bullying. She is a home-wrecker, and when Katharina found out about Ulrich cheating on her with Hannah and confronted her, Hannah blamed it on Ulrich and said he pressed her and that she wanted it to end, but he refused or whatever, i dont 100% remember the conversation. But she was also a very good mother to Jonas and she was so sweet to Mikkel/Michael. She is a bitch, so much that its impossible to not like her.
Severus Snape (Harry Potter)
Saved the best one to last. The guy my whole account is about, ofc he’s on this list, and ofc this is gonna be the longest text.
This guy is a complete asshole. Always has been, always will be. He bullied Harry and Co (mostly Harry and Neville) he was a bitter and sarcastic bitch. He used to be a follower of Voldemort. Even in his youth he had a lot of flaws. We all know he became the bastard he was due to childhood trauma, mental illnesses and manipulation. I believe he had depression, grief and PTSD. At least in his 20’s he was suicidal, and I believe it remained like that til the day he died, because he had no one to help him or give him support. He turned to the dark side in an attemt to make his life better (as many members of gangs do) but he only stayed like that for two years, which is extremely impressive if you know what kind of person Voldemort is. As a 21 year old, Snape was a very different person from what he was as a 38 year old. If he was the way he was as a 38 yr old when Lily, James and Harry was in danger. First of all, he wouldnt start to try to save Lily by asking Voldemort, he would have went straight to Dumbledore, probably with his own brilliant plan on how to save them. Second, he wouldnt hesitate for a second to save James and Harry to. In canon, he needed to have a personal reason to save them, which was Lily’s feelings I believe. As a 38 yr old, he risked his life to save people he hated (Lupin) This is a great character developement. He went from being a selfish bitch, to become a selfless asshole. He was that kind of person who did anything in his power to protect someone, even if that person had nothing to do with winning the war and had nothing to gain himself.

I know you weren't a big fan of s6, so if you could rewrite it, what would you change?
Everything.
No, I’m kidding. I mean, there were some things I liked about S6 and would definitely keep around. I thought the S5 finale set everything up for S6 really well. I was excited for the Land of Untold Stories, and all the tales that were hinted at in the scenes that took place there, and I love Regina, especially when she’s the Evil Queen in flashbacks, so I was all amped up for the dual Reginas storyline. S6 looked great from that point.
Then it all went to shit.
The Evil Queen thing was SO over-the-top, and Lana was playing her in a campy and ridiculous way that didn’t appeal to me at all. In hindsight, I can see that they were trying to keep her “redeemable” and play up the whole “still Regina, even as the Evil Queen” thing for the storyline resolution, so they needed her to only be quasi-evil instead of evil-evil. Okay, fair enough, but it was still super disappointing and even downright cringey, and I will never forgive them for turning one of my favorite parts of the show into a circus act. Honestly, if they weren’t going to do the Evil Queen justice, I would’ve rather they hadn’t gone anywhere near her. So that would be change #1: Drop the camp or drop that storyline entirely.
And they could’ve dropped it entirely. That exciting land of Untold Stories they teased us with in the S5 finale was... a let-down. Yes, we got Jekyll and Hyde and Captain Nemo... but the Aladdin stuff they gave us was more fairytale than literary classic, and wtf was up with the ridiculous one-off shit like the Count of Monte Cristo? There were SO many classics they could’ve visited, and greater detail they could’ve gone into with the ones they DID visit... and the Land of Untold Stories was so COOL looking, with its wild mix of architecture and dirigibles and steampunk style. WHY would you create such a fantastical and fun-looking world, and then take everyone from that world and put them in OUR boring ass world? S6 should’ve taken place IN the Land of Untold Stories and brought us a lot more fresh takes and characters from that land than the pittance we got. AND MORE STEAMPUNK, FOR FUCK’S SAKE.
I’m also still angry that they teased me with an asylum plot in the press before the S5 finale, then gave me a taste of it IN that finale... and then ripped it from my greedy, hot little hands. They didn’t even put Killian Jones in a straitjacket while they were there. What the fuck, guys? Who does that? That man was born to be put into a straitjacket for my enjoyment and you had him RIGHT THERE and even put someone in a straitjacket, but it was the wrong fucking someone. Had S6 stayed in the Land of Untold Stories, we could’ve had untold opportunities for more asylum whump, and they could’ve put Killian in a straitjacket and made all of my dreams come true.
And why the SHIT did they actually kill off Hyde when Sam Witwer was the best thing to happen to that show since Colin, himself?! I mean, yeah, the Jekyll and Hyde storyline was probably planned from the get-go to end in their deaths, but when you see what a complete GEM Hyde is, what with his penchant for the Evil Queen’s cooking and his ridiculously awesome facial expressions and his dashing dapper-do and Sam Fucking Witwer’s everything... change whatever the fuck you need to change to somehow keep this man on your show. And then they even went and full-on made this man redeemable and gave him a heartbreaking backstory right before they killed him. Like, fuck you? Seriously. Fuck everyone for that one. I will never forgive them for killing Hyde.
Okay. Moving on from my general complaints, we come to my Killian-specific complaints. And there’s a lot of them. S6 did that character SO wrong SO many times... I really just want to take it out back and beat the shit out of it.
For starters, his relationships were ALL thrown in the shitcan. It was like S3-S5 just never happened and he was right back to Square One with everyone, being that dastardly pirate that can’t be trusted and that no one could ever care about. People who clearly cared enough about him to go to the fucking Underworld for him in S5 were suddenly calling him a pirate like it’s a foul word, and blatantly telling him he’s not good enough to be part of the family. Yeah, I get it, they wanted some dramatic negativity before showing these characters fully accepting and embracing him as part of their clan... but you know what makes for really awesome storytelling? Realistic relationships that grow and evolve over the course of several seasons - which was what they fucking HAD before they threw them all in the shitter for fake “developments” that had already happened. And FYI, Henry was actually nastier to Killian in the beginning of 6x06 than he was during the Spell of Shattered Sight. Like, did no one at the writers table even pause in their pursuit of drama long enough to realize that if Henry really ever had that much animosity towards Killian, it would’ve come out THEN? Or, you know, at any point in the course of the last four seasons?!
And it goes without saying: I would never, ever, ever have had Killian be the murderer of David’s father. Or, at the very least, I would’ve never had the murder go down the way they showed it in the flashback. Have it be an accidental death. Have it be a pirate duel. Have it be anything but cold-blooded murder. First of all, it’s just not believable that David could forgive him so easily and so quickly for depriving him of a loving father for no fucking reason. Secondly, they spend four whole seasons showing us flashbacks of a pirate with a deeply-buried heart of gold, who kept wanting to make the right decisions... but ended up making the wrong ones time and time again. They never showed us, before this ridiculously cheap dramatic ploy, a man who willfully murdered people just for shits and giggles. Finally, Killian Jones is a motherfucking pirate. Stealing from the King is par for the course, but the whole “Dead men tell no tales” thing makes ZERO sense. Pirates thrive by striking FEAR into the hearts of their enemies, and you don’t get a solid reputation for being a cut-throat villain to be feared by literally killing off all the witnesses to your evil deeds. Pirates are like, one step short of going “BEHOLD! It is I, Captain PirateGuy, here to steal your gold and seduce your ladies! Be sure to tell all your friends and neighbors about this when we’re through.” So... yeah. Way to throw a completely nonsensical spanner in the works that makes literally NO sense and flies in the face of everything else you’ve said and shown about this character in the past. It’s shit, and I refuse to accept it, and they should be sorry for its very existence.
And then there’s Captain Swan. *sigh* This relationship fell prey to the same shit that ALL of Killian’s relationships were destroyed by throughout S6. Only it was much, much worse here - because this is supposed to be (and has been!) his closest, most important relationship. And yet... We see Emma blow him off and then lie right to his face in the very first episode. Then she lies some more in each of the next few episodes, and when her lies are finally revealed, she doesn’t even seem to give a shit about the trust she’s betrayed or the hurt she’s caused. And the fact that they even filmed that deleted scene with Emma giving Killian a flippant “I said I was sorry...” just shows how fucking tone-deaf those writers were. If someone lies to your face, repeatedly, over something of life-or-death importance and for a lengthy period of time, then basically gives you a “I said I was sorry, what more do you want from me?” twenty minutes after their lies are revealed, because you’re still sore about it... get the FUCK out of that relationship immediately, because that person does not give two shits about you.
Things only got worse when she snooped through his belongings, pushed him to propose on her terms and when she wanted him to (despite the fact that he was clearly drunk and troubled by something at the time), called off their engagement when he dared to keep something from her (despite the fact that she’d just recently spent weeks lying right to his face), believed that he would just abandon her completely despite everything they’d been through, lied to him again right before their wedding in the course of once again shutting him out and not letting him help her with something (even though that’s literally the EXACT reason she ended their engagement when HE was the one doing it)... I mean, come on. That is NOT the CS I signed up for, and I refuse to accept it as the CS that is my OTP.
Hence, the Dark Emma explanation was born in my head. And when it comes to changes to S6... I’d either completely re-write about 90% of S6′s CS storylines... or make my Dark Emma theory a reality. The theory is as such: Since Emma did not die in 5x11, but merely had her Darkness sucked into Killian/Excaliber before HE died... some residual darkness remained in her. Nothing much was seen/noticed in 5b (though Killian DID make a comment about her not sleeping...) because she was too focused on saving Killian. However, once she was back home, safe and sound with her man, the Darkness started showing itself. She lied to those she loved. She made uncharacteristically selfish decisions. She hurt people. She eschewed all she’d learned about letting others in and getting help from the people who love her. And it wasn’t until her literal and figurative death at Gideon’s hands that the Darkness was truly eradicated from her - and only THEN could she truly find her Happy Beginning.
Oh, and by the way, I also hate the writers for even HAVING Killian walk to the docks with a packed bag and even consider boarding the Nautilus and leaving town. No. Just... no. Having him even CONSIDER doing that is even worse than having Emma believe he WOULD do such a thing to her. It’s like they got the S6 writers out of a Cracker Jack box and not a single one had ever watched an episode of the show or seen this couple before in their lives. Their whole fucking SCHTICK is that he would NEVER abandon her, that he would follow her to the end of the world or time itself... and that, despite a lifetime of fears and abandonment issues, Emma Swan has come to TRUST that he would never leave her. YOU CAN’T JUST GO “LOL, THAT’S NOT TRUE NOW” AND EXPECT ME TO ACCEPT THAT SHIT. No. Fuck you. Fuck your entire season AND the boat it rode in on. Just... fuck, man. FUCK.
The wedding was nice, though. I loved the musical aspect. Everyone did great in it. It was a truly lovely episode in almost every way, although I didn’t care for Emma’s dress and especially not her hairdo. It was too stark, too severe, but somehow too fancy at the same time... and it seemed more Jen Morrison than Emma Swan to me. Other than that, though, it was lovely. Everyone looked lovely. The singing was lovely. The vows were lovely. Shame about the whirling black vortex of doom, though.
Speaking of things that suck, I would also like to set that fucking doily shirt that Emma wore in 6x17 on fucking fire. And she actually DARED to rescue my man in that atrocity. Did she not realize I would need to SEE that shitty article of clothing every time I admired that dashing rescue? Did no one think of the KWs of the world who would suffer from this fashion faux pas?!?!
Oh, and I hate that they literally had Emma burn Killian’s image in the curse and not have any kind of recollection. I mean, I get that they wanted Henry to make her believe, and the way they got him to do that was cute, but did they HAVE to show Emma looking at Killian’s picture burning in the fire and being like, “Eh, he might ring a bell, but not enough to bother thinking about for more than a second or anything.” I could’ve done without that scene, honestly, because it just comes off like, “This love isn’t strong enough to break through this curse!” and EXCUSE ME, but where’s the fucking fun in that? Haven’t any of those bitches ever read a goddamn fanfic?! LOVE BREAKING THROUGH A CURSE IS ALL THE RAGE, GUYS. That’s the kind of shit we like to read and see in our OTPs. What’s with this “Eh, let that handsome fucker on page 172 burn” shit??
Oh, but that scene where Fiona serves the charred remains of the book to Henry on a platter would need to stay. That shit was stone cold savage. That bitch came to play, and that scene straight up told you that she was NOT going to be sitting at anyone’s Thanksgiving table next year, asking someone to pass the potatoes like she was just named People Magazine’s Redeemed Villain of the Year or something. She meant business.
Finally, I think I would’ve ended the show with the S6 finale. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed S7 and I loved KnightRook and Wish Hook and all the excellent Colin content we got that year... but in hindsight, the Hail Mary play of rebooting the series really just didn’t work, and S7 ended up as the “extra chapter” the series itself didn’t need. It’s not that I would want to give up the awesomeness of what we had... It’s just that I feel like if we hadn’t had it, we’d be unaware of what we were missing out on anyway, but the series as a whole would’ve maintained more of its impact and dignity.
But then, we were blessed with Wish Hook and the wonders of S7 Hooked Queen, so... :D I mean, coulda shoulda woulda, I’ve got ‘em now and you can’t take that away from meeee...

How do you think they assassinated Emma’s character in s6? I thought Emma was very true to character in s6. She fought for the people she loved and to protect innocents. She fought for Killian, Belle, and even was willing to sacrifice her own life rather than kill Gideon, because she knew the Black Fairy had his heart and was controlling him. I thought Emma was very heroic in s6.
Oh well, I guess you’re one of those who think that just because she was a good person, she was also well written. I mean okay, if you love her and felt inclined to see all the good in her, great, but since you asked me, and I don’t think I’ve made a complete post with all my problems with Emma’s writing in s6, here goes.
Note that it’s not my intention to hate on Emma here. But because up until the end of s5, I loved what Emma had grown into, I was so, so disappointed by the writing choices. So remember, I’m criticizing the writing choices, not the character. (though I’m sure I’ll get nervous nellies coming at me and calling me a hater either way)
1. Her whole (and I mean, whole) development from s5 was completely ignored. Seriously, even from the first episodes from s6, it felt as if the writers had completely forgotten everything they wrote in s5.
Season 5 Emma started scared, insecure, with the Darkness pushing her buttons and making her not trust in her family. By the end of 5A, she learned to trust them to help her - hence, she let them follow her in the Underworld. She did feel guilty, at times, but her growth was shown by her accepting that help.
S6? The first thing she does is hide from her family the fact that she has high chances of dying soon. She’s brought to re-learn the lesson of trusting her family, all over again, and play again the “you’re right I should’ve trusted you yadda yadda”.
Now, yes, in real life, people don’t drop such bad habits that easily. But OUAT wasn’t real life. And when you fucking trust your family to protect themselves and your underage child from whatever the Underworld may bring, I don’t know, hiding a potential death threat from them later sounds kinda illogical.
Point is, Emma had already gone through the process of learning to trust her family. S6 was just a complete re-do of s5. Hence, the writing “killed” the progess she did in s5.
2. The Captain Swan stuff. Oh boy, where do I fucking begin?
- She outright ignored Killian’s very obvious turmoil in 6x13 because she was oh so excited to get engaged. That was selfish, not a nice development.
- In s4, when she suspected Killian had a past with Ursula he wasn’t being truthful about, she confronted him in a very mature way, telling him what upset her and what she expected of him as her boyfriend without rocking their relationship at all.She trusted him to deal with the issue and let her in when/if he needed her. And that was awesome. But the moment Killian is having an issue in s6? She shouts at him, demands that he trust her, and breaks off (even if it was shown as a temporary break-off) their engagement. Which she had pretty much forced, btw. Certainly not a good development, especially since we saw her handle the relationship stuff very positively and carefully in s4, long before they had even exchanged “I love you”s, let alone get engaged.
- Talking about the trust stuff… she shouted at Killian about how he should have trusted her, when not ten episodes ago she’d done the exact same thing to him. Instead of looking inward and realizing that he only did what he did out of fear, like she had done before, the writers had her blame him. No support, no understanding, barely even a chance for him to explain himself. The scene where they fight about the dreamcatcher looks like it’s straight out of a cheesy soap opera and I simply cannot describe how much I hate it. And you know what’s even more ridiculous? When in 6x06 he comes clear to her about not throwing away the shears, she’s immediately understanding. Yes, she looks shaken by him having lied to her, but she does look inward and says “I would have done the exact same thing” - which, though it was beautiful, was another proof the writers had forgotten about s5, where she did that exact same thing by turning him into the Dark One, ignoring his wishes not to. So truly, the line should have been “I have done the exact same thing”. But anyway. Yet, when the same thing happens with the dreamcatcher, she shouts at him. What’s the logic there?
- Her first reaction in whateverthefuckepisodeitwasIdon’tcare, when Killian doesn’t come back after she broke off the engagement, is to assume he’d straight up abandoned her. Sure, abandonment issues yadda yadda. We’re talking about the guy who gave up his home for her happiness, endagered his life and even lost it twice for her, opened up to her in a way he hadn’t opened up to anyone in centuries, yet her first reaction is to think the most dedicated guy in the world gave up on her. That’s, again, a negative development from the woman who went to the fucking Underworld because she knew Killian would want to be back with her. Like, what else should Killian have done to prove to her that he won’t give up on her like that? I mean, even when he was shaken and wanted to leave with Nemo, it was with the aim to come back once he’d found himself. Instead Emma was written to immediately think he’d dumped her forever - so no understanding of her almost fiancee’s character and devotion to her. And it wasn’t even that she felt guilty over forcing the engagement on him and then abruptly breaking it off. She literally packed up his stuff and was about to go put them away. If she had felt guilty she would’ve kept them, but no, guess he’s gone forever now bye.
This was not the development Emma Swan deserved. Sure, she did heroic stuff. But the writing owed to her (and other characters too) to stay true to her.
3. General stuff
- Getting rid of the shears was stupid and illogical from the get-go. There were two (or more? I don’t remember) openly evil magic users out there. She had a magical object that could change her life and have an impact on virtually everyone. Her solution? Throw it away and hope the expert magic users won’t find it. Though mentioning that feels like cheating because it was a collectively stupid idea. Hide them outside the town border, perhaps? Were all their brain cells burnt while in the Underworld?
- The wedding. Look, I’m not gonna go into detail here. Whether you liked it or not, her dress was 100% not Emma. It was nothing that represented her. The whole wedding was not about her and Killian, it was about the whole town - and if you like Adam’s quotes as much as my other anon did, even he said that the wedding was about the town (or was it Eddie who said that?), and what the fuck, marriage should be about the ones involved. Marriages for the communities usually signify some lack of consent (I’m thinking of matchmaking where the couple doesn’t even know each other before getting married, because they live in a regressive community or something). The super conservative dressthat we never found out why she would even like wearing doesn’t help, either.
- Saying that she was happy she grew up unloved because that made her strong. If you don’t realize how problematic that is just by itself, I don’t think any arguments I may present will convince you.
All those things cheapened her character. Combined, they outright destroyed her. I didn’t watch six seasons of the show, to see the woman who blew on a lonely cupcake on her birthday find people she loves and go through all kinds of turmoil for them and to be with them, only to a) continue to not trust her family, b) be a bad girlfriend c) doubt the devotion of the guy who literally died for her, d) be stupid, e) get married “for the community” in a super conservative dress and worst of all, f) pretty much become an abuse apologist.
Yes, Emma Swan still did good things and “savior stuff”. But that was pretty much the only good thing left in her character by the end. Everything else, considering her positive development, flew out the window. And all for the sake of drama.
And that’s how Emma’s character was assassinated.

Chapter 117: The Tower
"Wait...so you were looking for this golden flower, which can trap someone in a place, and encountered a princess in a tower with long hair?" Emma asked, as they ate, while Killian explained how Alice came to be. It was pretty obvious to all of them that Hook had definitely changed, though it wasn't too surprising. Parenthood was the one thing that could create such drastic change in a person. It was one of the few things that could become more important than anything, even revenge.
"Aye...why is that amusing?" he asked.
"It's just...was her name Rapunzel?" Emma asked. He looked surprised.
"Yes...or at least that's what she told me. How did you know that name?" he asked.
"Rapunzel...it's a pretty well known fairy tale," she replied.
"Ah that...well, somehow I doubt they got this one right either, because the next morning, Rapunzel was no more. In her place was a witch named Gothel and my child in her arms," he explained.
"That's quite an acceleration in pregnancy, but I guess we all know that magic can do just about anything," Persephone mentioned.
"Gothel is dangerous...I'm not sure I like the idea that she might come here after you. We have enough trouble with Queen Ravenna and her vendetta against our daughter," Hades said sternly.
"Papa Hades...we can't turn him away, especially if his child is in danger," Snow chided. He sighed.
"And I don't intend to, snowdrop...but Gothel is powerful and she hates humanity," Hades said.
"Wait...are you saying she isn't human?" David asked.
"She appears human, but she is really a part of a dead race of tree nymphs that were the first children of Mother Earth herself, Gaia," Persephone replied.
"Gaia was once benevolent and they lived in peace, secretly concealed away from an early race of humans. But she became very dissatisfied with humans and their mistreatment of the Earth. She and her eldest daughter, Gothel, grew very angry and bitter," he explained, as he paused for a beat.
She wanted them to pay, so with her husband Uranus...the Titans were born. But while the Titans raged against humans and nearly drove them to extinction, the Earth suffered their wrath as well. So when Uranus refused to stop his onslaught upon the Earth, Gaia implored her son Cronus to slay his father, which he did. In the process, Cronus and Rhea gave birth to the Olympians. I was their oldest son," Hades stated.
"Then you much of the rest of the story," Persephone added. He nodded.
"Yes...Zeus killed Cronus with Rhea's help to preserve humanity, but in the process, this world was stripped of its magic, thanks to Gothel. She fought us and nearly even toppled Zeus for control of Olympus. But he banished her to another realm. Before she was swept away, she cursed this land and took the magic with her," Hades explained. Realization dawned in Snow's eyes.
"That's why this land became the Land Without Magic," she said, putting it together. He nodded.
"Yes...exactly. Once Gothel was gone...Gaia was distraught and faded into the wind to become apart of the earth she once loved. The Olympians sealed the Titans away in Tartarus. Zeus was awarded control of the skies, Poseidon the seas, and me the Underworld," he continued.
"And now that the realms are United...this Mother Gothel is back?" David asked.
"My suspicion is that she resides in that magical forest that we don't know much about, as confirmed by the Captain," Persephone answered.
"I guess I did not realize the threat she was or that she could be that powerful. I had no idea she was descended from Mother Earth herself," Killian said.
"It's okay...we will not turn you and your daughter away from a better life. If Gothel is here, then it would not have mattered if you came here or not. In fact, it's better that we know of her now than let her lurk in the shadows and catch us by surprise," Persephone assured.
"I just can't believe she had a child for the soul purpose of getting free and just abandoned her," Snow said, as she cuddled her baby daughter close.
"Unfortunately...Gothel has no humanity. But if she comes here...she will meet an opposition unlike what she has faced in the past," Hades said, as he looked at Persephone.
"He's right...and I won't just banish her like Zeus did. That was the answer to problems he couldn't defeat or destroy," she added, as they watched Alice playing with Alexander nearby, while Tallie, Gideon, and Iris sat with their respective mothers.
"We wouldn't have known Gothel was free if not for you, Killian...so we owe you that. We can now make sure she doesn't get away with whatever she may be plotting," Persephone said.
"Now that she is free...you think she may try something?" Snow asked her mother.
"It wouldn't surprise me. But we'll be ready for her now that we know," Persephone answered, as the hour grew late and they soon returned home to their respective castles for the evening.

Queen Ravenna huffed in annoyance, as they disembarked from the small ocean liner. She hadn't dared to take one of the royal ships, as all those vessels had to formally log and record their voyages and she wanted this trip strictly off the books.
"I can't believe I had to be subjected to that...how disgusting," she complained, referring to the conditions on board the modest ship.
"It was a perfectly modernized cruise ship, Your Majesty," Frollo reminded.
"The silverware wasn't even real silver!" she complained and he rolled his eyes. The woman was beyond spoiled and ridiculous. He hated that he was enslaved to her and constantly had to put up with this kind of nonsense.
It wasn't hard to hire a carriage to take them from there. It seemed that this land, since they had not made contact with other realms, was still not modernized. It was all perfectly mysterious and though the driver had no inkling about the object they were seeking, Frollo's research told him it was east of the Harbor.
"It will be a few hours until we come to the place you described," the coachman called to them. Ravenna growled, as she looked out the window in boredom.
"You better be right about this," she hissed, as the carriage continued on its journey.

David opened the door to the loft and showed Hook in, as he carried one meager bag and his daughter in his arms.
"Are you sure, mate?" he asked. He nodded.
"The loft was and is a special place for us. It was our first home together with Emma, besides the dreamscape," he replied. They had struggled with the decision on whether or not to sell it in the last three years and decided not to. They had kept it furnished and hired someone to keep it clean until they could let go of it. But now that Hook had come back with his own family to raise, they knew why they had hung onto it for so long and Snow felt this exactly what the reformed pirate and his little girl needed.
"That's what I mean...this place has a lot of memories for you and your lot," Hook mentioned.
"It does...and we have been reluctant to let it go. I think we've been waiting for the right person and tonight, he came along," David said. Hook looked truly touched by that.
"This will be a good start for you and Alice," he said, as he handed him the keys.
"We'll take care of it and enjoy it, I promise you that," Killian assured. David nodded.
"Oh and since I'm sure you need a job, come by the castle tomorrow. I'm sure I have something," he said. Hook nodded.
"And Alice?" he asked. David smiled.
"I'm sure my parents will happily watch one more," David said, as he left them.
"Well starfish...welcome home," he said, as he ventured upstairs, only to find that the loft was ready for a little girl to live in and he was touched again. It seemed that Snow had arranged it all in a very short amount of time, though she was Queen and had the power to do such now.
"Papa look!" Alice called, as she pointed to the chess set on the table.
"Well, I suppose we have time for a game before bedtime," he said, as he carried her into the room.

Flashback
Three Years Ago
"Magic…" she growled, as they suddenly watched the entire palace disappear. Next, the clock tower disappeared, then Granny's, and everything on Main Street. The magic swept around them and when it was gone, there was nothing but woods around them, like there had never been a town there in the first place.
"What the hell just happened?" Channing asked. But even Circe had no answers. Storybrooke was gone, without a trace or explanation to offer. And with it, gone was her revenge, leaving her with nothing.
Strangely, just as quickly as the town had disappeared, it started to reappear again.
"What's happening now?" Channing asked, even more confused now, as they watched a bright cloud of magic sweep around them again. This time though, the clock tower reappeared, then Granny's, and everything on Main Street. The magic continued to rebuild the town with the Sheriff's station, the school, and the Toll bridge. Storybrooke was back.
"They're back," Circe observed, as Cronus' palace reappeared. It was as if they had never been gone, but she knew better. She had a feeling whatever had happened was going to have serious ramifications; to what extent, she did not know.
"Madam Circe...something is very different…" Channing called, as she saw what he was looking at. In her very long life, she had seen many things and not much surprised her anymore. But this did.
"By the Gods...what have they done?" she uttered, as there was a poof of magic and her father, Mushu, stood before her.
"Father…" she greeted evenly.
"You must leave here, my daughter," he implored.
"I'm not going anywhere...not until they pay and I destroy magic. If I can't have it...then neither can they," she hissed.
"You cannot win this. Zeus is dead and Persephone reigns supreme. Not even Cronus or the Chernabog will openly and directly challenge her," the dragon warned.
"It figures you would want me to run...it is what you do best," she snapped.
"Please, my dear daughter...they will imprison you if you do not leave and your mother has refused to help me hide you. I do not know how long I can keep them off your trail," Mushu warned.
"We will take our chances," Circe refuted.

It was the next day and business as usual resumed in the United Realms, which meant Emma and Neal resumed their daily duties at the Storybrooke Sheriff's station. But today, they were sequestered in the bug on a stakeout, because of a tip about suspicious activity at the cannery.
Emma sighed in boredom, as they were six hours in already and Neal returned with a tray of coffee and cocoa.
"Are you sure about that tip?" she asked, as she sipped at her cocoa.
"Yes...I'm sure. This is the hotspot, which makes sense. The cannery is close to the harbor," he replied. She sighed.
"I just...magical smuggling? Really?" she asked skeptically.
"Merida swears that there is a witch in her Kingdom that's fond out that selling her magical goods and items in the United Realms is even more profitable than when she was limited to Dunbroch," he replied.
"Yeah I get that...but why is she so hung up on finding this helm? And if we know this witch has it, then why don't we just go all swat team on her hovel in Dunbroch?" Emma asked. He looked at her skeptically.
"Because she's a witch and invading her turf just means we'd be dodging a bunch of magical traps I'm sure she has bugged all over the woods around her hut," he reminded. She couldn't argue with that.
"As for the helm...no idea what's so special about it other than it once belonged to her dad," he replied, as they saw movement out back of the building.
"Oh...here we go. There's the old hag now," Emma said, as they witnessed the old witch appear in a puff of smoke. But to their surprise, her customer was wearing the armor of a Knight and not just any armor.
"That's Camelot armor," Neal said.
"You think his King sent him?" Emma asked.
"My father does get quiet when Arthur is mentioned," Neal replied, which they both found peculiar.
"There it is...the helm!" Emma hissed, as they slowly got out of the car.
"Yeah...there's something else in her hand too," Neal replied, as he used his binoculars.
"Can you tell what?" she asked.
"No...it's a vial of some sort," he replied.
"Well, the helm is stolen so that's good enough. Let's move in," she said, as he pulled his sword and she moved in with her gun.
~*~
"Just give them to me, you old hag," Sir Percival hissed.
"Mind your tongue boy...or I'll relieve you of," the witch warned in her thick accent.
"Listen...you will get your payment when I get the items I require," he said.
"You mean that your King requires," she said, as she held them up.
"The magical helm of King Fergus and this…" she hissed, as she held up the vial of glittery red sand.
"Say those words, witch and I will cut out your tongue," he warned.
"No one is cutting out anyone's tongues. Hands up," Emma ordered.
"This is none of your concern, Sheriff," Percival hissed.
"This is Storybrooke, so it's exactly our business. Hands up," she ordered. But Percival lashed out with his blade and Neal stepped in to duel him.
"Hands up witch," Emma warned, but the old hag smirked and launched a blast of magic at her. Emma dodged and countered with her own.
"Ahh...the magic of the Savior. How exhilarating! But I have been practicing magic long before you were born...long before your parents were born even," she boasted, as she volleyed magical blasts at her. But Emma countered with one big one and broke through her defenses.
"Give the advantage to youth then," she quipped, as she placed a pair of magical dampening cuffs on her and picked up the helm, along with the small vial of red, glittering dust.
"What is this?" she asked, as Neal brought back a cuffed and disarmed Percival, who gave the witch a hard glare.
"I have no idea," the witch feigned ignorance.
"Yeah right...but it doesn't matter. I'm pretty sure my grandmother and step-grandfather will know what it is," she said.
"And if for some reason they don't, my dad probably will," Neal added, as they put their prisoners in the back of the bug, before getting in and taking back to the station.

After several hours, they finally came upon the garden that Frollo was looking for and it happened to be at the foot of an old tower.
"This is it...this is where the map the cauldron provided showed," he said, as they got out of the carriage.
"It better be...I'm tired of waiting!" Ravenna complained, as she stomped into the garden.
"You have about as much finesse as a raging bull," Frollo commented. She turned and glared at him, as she extracted a pouched from her dress pocket. It glowed red, reminding him once again that she held the only object that could control him. Not that he needed reminding.
"Watch your tongue and find this flower you keep telling me about," she ordered.
"May I ask how you plan to use it against your enemy?" he requested. She smirked.
"Shouldn't that be obvious? I plan to use it to trap Snow White in some incredibly horrible place. I don't know where yet...perhaps Bald Mountain. Wouldn't that be poetic? I could trap her in the place her parents created to trap you," Ravenna answered.
"An interesting plan, but you don't think the heroes will find someone less desirable to take Snow White's place and rescue her from your captivity?" he questioned.
"You're going to figure that part out for me," she snapped and he rolled his eyes.
"Of course I am…" he muttered, as he didn't notice the vine slither out and wrap around his leg. He cried out and quickly took his monstrous form and snapped the vine. Ravenna watched with trepidation, as the vines slowly gathered and formed a cocoon of sorts. It glowed briefly and became the shape of a woman that soon revealed herself.
"Easy there beastie…" the woman with blonde matted hair cooed.
"Who are you?" Ravenna demanded to know. The woman smirked.
"I am the answer to your revenge…" she said softly.
"Are you the keeper of this garden?" Ravenna questioned.
"I am…" she answered.
"Then you have the golden flower I need," the Queen said.
"I do...but the flower isn't what you want," she responded. Ravenna frowned.
"And why not?" she demanded to know.
"The flower will hold your enemies for a time, but inevitably she will escape. However, I can offer you a solution to your Snow White problem if you help me," she tempted.
"And just who are you?" Frollo questioned, as he took his human form again.
"Mmm...you have been bonded to the black God and you possess Prometheus' flame," the woman surmised.
"How do you know that?" Ravenna questioned.
"Because I was there when the Titans were born. In a way, we are related, Chernabog. We have the same mother," she revealed.
"Gaia was your mother?" Frollo asked. She nodded.
"I was her first born, during the times of peace on this planet, long before she had the need to breed the Titans. But we all fell to those deceitful, treacherous Olympians," she replied.
"I am Gothel…" she revealed.
"You would help me get revenge on Snow White?" Ravenna questioned. She nodded.
"If you free me from the confines of this place. I cannot go beyond this tower or this garden thanks to those golden flowers you seek," she responded.
"Then we need someone to take your place," Frollo surmised.
"Correct," Gothel confirmed.
"But why help us? What could you have against my wretched former step-daughter?" Ravenna questioned.
"You mean what do I have against Demeter's beloved granddaughter? Hades' adored step-daughter? Persephone's perfect little snowdrop?" Gothel questioned. Frollo smirked.
"Of course...Persephone sits on the Throne that should be rightfully yours as Gaia's first born," he said.
"What is your plan for her?" Ravenna asked eagerly. Gothel smirked and a vial of potion appeared in her hand.
"If Snow White ingests this poison...it will cripple her heart. It will ruin it beyond repair. Not even her mother can revive her from this," Gothel revealed. Ravenna's eyes gleamed with an evil glint and desire.
"You're sure?" she asked with bated breath.
"Quite," Gothel replied.
"And true love's kiss? It cannot save her either?" Ravenna questioned.
"Not even true love's kiss can overcome this poison. It's the last of my mother's own concoction. She planned to use it on Zeus...but she died before she could. Then I was saving it for a pirate...but I feel it is better used on that demi-Goddess spawn," Gothel responded.
"And any soul to take your place in that tower will do?" Ravenna questioned. Gothel smirked.
"Absolutely," she replied. Ravenna looked at Frollo and the Promethean flame glowed.
"Find me some little waif to trap in that tower," she ordered. He sighed and transformed back into his monster form, as he flew off to do her bidding.
"So, as soon as you are free...I can have that potion?" she questioned. Gothel smirked.
"I cannot reveal my presence too soon. Persephone and Hades will suspect me now that a certain pirate has absconded to Storybrooke. But the potion is yours if I can hide...or rather grow in your garden," Gothel answered.
"Done," Ravenna agreed, as their devious deal was made...

Flashback
Three years ago
Circe ran toward the Harbor at Longbourne. Her father had been right and in the weeks that followed the reappearance of Storybrooke and subsequently, the United Realms, newly minted Supreme Sheriff and King David made it his personal mission to arrest her and all her followers. She had hoped for sanctuary in Cronus' Kingdom, but he had chosen to shun her in an attempt to make it seem like he was conforming to Persephone's rule. She knew better, but for whatever reason, she no longer fit into his plans and she was on her own. Not even her traitor of a mother, Hecate, would support her and she soon realized, begrudgingly, that she should have listened to her father.
"End of the line, Circe…" David called, as he and his Knights, including Lancelot, cornered her.
"You really think I'm letting some insignificant mortal like yourself take me down?" she challenged, as she fired several plasma blasts at his Knights. One was hit, while the others dodged. She cackled, as the Knight that had been hit was now struggling to stay alive and she fired her blasts at David. But she became truly shocked when he swatted her blasts away harmlessly, as the steel of his blade blocked and absorbed her blasts effortlessly.
"How...is that possible?" she questioned in disbelief. David smirked.
"Hephaestus reforged my blade. It has a few added advantages and strengths now. Hades was specific in the modifications and your weapons are useless against mine," David replied. She seethed. So that was how he and his Knights had easily captured and arrested all her followers. She growled and fired at him wildly, as he advanced on her, blocking every blast, until she was unwillingly disarmed. Lancelot cuffed her and Hades appeared, looking at her with a smug smirk.
"You really think this is over?" she questioned.
"All your lackeys, including Calypso and your blind sheep are behind bars and you're about to join them. I'd say over is an understatement," he retorted.
"If you think that we're all that there is to this...you're sadly mistaken. This isn't over...not by a long shot," Circe warned. But Hades didn't seem concerned.
"Whoever you still have out in the Land Without Magic can't get to us here and we have no plans to venture out there," he said. But Circe's face was marred with a smirk.
"I've waited centuries for my revenge...a few more years is nothing. You'll soon know how wrong you are," she hissed under her breath.
~*~
The United Realms prison was actually a very humane place. They had three meals a day, visitation twice a week, and even a bit of free time outside. But Circe and her followers didn't really get visitors these days, with the exception of an occasional call from her father. Upon her capture, Mushu had escaped the United Realms and faded into the obscurity of the Land Without Magic. And only Circe truly knew the reason why.
Her father, dissatisfied with the rule of the Gods, had taken up her leadership of what remained of the Home Office. Unfortunately, there was some opposition they were facing outside Storybrooke and he had not been able to regain access to the United Realms as a result. But Circe continued to wait patiently. She and her father both were very good at playing the long game and she wholeheartedly believed that someday, she would be free and wage war on Olympus, as well as all the Kingdoms. She would rule or she vowed to die trying.

100 Important Character Questions
PART 5: RELATIONSHIPS W/OTHERS
In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? Does your treatment of them change depending on how well you know them, and if so, how?
Mostly rude, Rumple definitely keeps most people at a distance. But if he decides that you’re worth letting in closer he can be as sweet as pie with you. He has to want to though, and he has to feel comfortable with that person. Even then snark occasionally slips in with most people. With youngsters he’s polite though, never knowingly mean to a child.
Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
His wife and son. They’re his entire world now and everything to him. They’re more important than anyone and anything else. They’re the two people he loves the most.
Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
Belle. She’s an astounding woman to him and he still, to this day, cannot understand why she loves him as she does. She’s intelligent, fierce, beautiful; he adores her, and admires her. Though he’s done much through the years that would say otherwise, he truly does respect her.
Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.
Regina is a friend and despite himself he actually counts Killian as something of a friend now. He likes Charming, even Snow some days. Not counting his wife and son, his best friend would have to be Jefferson. The only person who never seemed intimidated by him, who actually respected him and his privacy whilst offering some sort of company.
Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.
Belle French is his wife and she is the light in his entire universe. Whilst their love has certainly not been easy and there have been moments where they have each hurt the other greatly, they’re true love. She’s 5″2, beautiful brown hair and eyes that you’d never forget gazing in to. Intelligent beyond belief, she is an avid reader and someone that he admires and loves with every fibre of his being.
Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.
Rumple has been in love 3 times; Milah, who he truly did love until things soured between them. He was so bitter and hurt that years later when he had the power of the Dark One he took her life for her betrayals. He loved Cora who he also ensured died (with a very big assist from Mary Margaret) in order so he could survive. He had hated her for the longest time after she had literally ripped out her own heart so her love for him didn’t cause her aspirations of power and a better life to be troubled. Then came Belle the woman who, after a very long road together, he married and had a child with.
What do you look for in a potential lover?
He looks for someone who can challenge him. Someone who isn’t afraid to tell him no and make him look at things with a better perspective. He needs someone that he can talk to, who can match him intellectually. Someone with good humour, someone who can see past the Darkness and understand that he had a good heart underneath it all.
How close are you to your family?
He loathes both his Mother and Father - the Black Fairy and Peter Pan. It hurts him that he’s had to kill them both, that they both abandoned him in life. Though he must also admit to some satisfaction at ending their lives, nobody can truly understand how complicated his feelings about that are.
As far as he’s concerned the Spinsters that raised him are his real family, not Malcolm and Fiona.
Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?
When time came for him to be with his adult son Neal he liked to think they formed the kind of bond he had always wanted with him. He’d loved him desperately and always will do. He tries to be there for his Grandson, wanting to form a bond with Henry also.
His wife and Gideon are the most important people in his life and he would do anything for them. Belle is his best friend, his confidant and someone he considers to be his world. Gideon too, who is a Mama’s boy but also terribly close to his Father.
Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?
Regina if Magic was necessary, or Jefferson. But ultimately it will always be Belle. The one person he trusts above all else.
Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?
Belle. Nobody else can be trusted like she can to protect him. Nobody else loves him like she does.
If you died or went missing, who would miss you?
Belle and Gideon primarily. Henry too. Regina would, and even Killian might do. Alice would and he does look upon her as his selected family.
Who is the person you despise the most, and why?
Zelena. It drives him near insane that he can’t actually kill her and he cannot fathom how anyone can forgive her for what she had done to him and everyone else. Yes, he had been villainous too but to do what she had? Even he was beyond that.
She caused the death of his son. She caused his insanity. She took away his freedom and agency, and abused him. Mentally, physically, emotionally and sexually. Every part of him had been stripped away by her, and he can not and will not ever forgive her for it.
Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
Rumple loves a good argument. Avoid conflict? Not a chance. Any opportunity to antagonise he will happily grab on to with both hands and rag around until he’s gotten everything he can do out of it.
Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?
It depends. He doesn’t like being told what to do so is more likely to break off and be on his own in them. But if he had to do something with others he will make his voice heard, mostly with sarcasm. He’s not really a team player.
Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?
He doesn’t. He doesn’t like people very much so a large group of them is something of a headache for him.
Do you care what others think of you?
He would like to say no and for the most part that’s true. Does it hurt that people hate him? Of course. But he expects it now. It’s all more of an acceptance to him that he’s never going to be popular, he’s never going to be loved by many.
Until Belle he truly didn’t think that anyone could love him. Even when with her he doubted he could be loved. He cares about what she thinks of him, and he cares about what Gideon thinks of him. Henry, Alice; them too, but a little less so.

Oreos at One-Thirty
Notes: Today is the two-year anniversary of the Little Pirates series. That’s right. On August 16th, 2017, I published the first installment of the series By the Hook. It’s insane to me to think I’ve been writing for this series so long and I couldn’t have done it without the amazing support of all my readers. While the first installment focused on Killian and Beth, I decided to celebrate the series by writing about Emma and Wes today. Thank you for everything and a special thank you to @optomisticgirl for constantly letting me spam her about this dumb ass universe. She’s a trooper. Summary: It’s the middle of the night and one of Emma Swan’s kids is out of bed. She’s not going to stand for this. Word Count: 2,500+ Rating: T
It was 1:30 in the morning when the stairs gave a small whine. It was a faint noise, one that most people wouldn’t notice.
But Emma Swan wasn’t most people.
She had never been the most peaceful of sleepers. The slightest of sounds had the tendency of waking her up, one of the many leftovers from living on the streets and staying in stolen hotel rooms. While a few of her habits from that time had faded, her light-sleeping habits seemed only be more honed with the birth of her children.
She laid there in her bed, ears straining for more movement and her hand automatically reaching for her nightstand where she hid her pistol. She would like to think that no one in Storybrooke would have the balls to attack her family in their home in the middle of the night, but with the number of villains and curses she had dealt with over the past couple of decades, she wasn’t willing to chance it. She glanced over at her husband, debating whether or not she should wake him. He was snoring away, completely unaware of the stirrings in their house, and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to rob him of his sleep after some many late-night shifts at the station.
Her decision was made for her when there was another creak from the stairway, one that was only made when someone was putting their weight on the bottom step. She scowled in the dark.
There was no intruder in her house.
Someone was out of bed.
Muttering curses under her breath, she crawled out of the warmth of her own bed. Killian mumbled something in his sleep before shifting in the warm spot she had left behind and grasping at her pillow. If she wasn’t so annoyed with their kids, she would have smiled at the sight.
As she headed down the stairs, blue and white light danced across the walls followed by the faint chiming music of an advertisement for Old Spice. As she got halfway down, the identity of her little miscreant was revealed.
Her twelve-year old son was on her couch, watching television and stuffing not one, not two, not three but four Oreos into his mouth all at once.
“You got to be kidding me!”
Wes jumped at the sound of her voice, tipping over the large glass of milk he had been cradling in his elbow and sending the packet of cookies flying into the air. Emma’s mood only soured as she watched the mess spread across her leather couch and drip onto her brand new and very expensive carpet that she and Killian had bought two days ago.
“Uhhhhh…hi Mom…fancy seeing you here…” He scrambled a bit, looking around frantically for something before grabbing a half-eaten Oreo off the floor and holding it out to her. “Cookie?”
She gave him an unimpressed look, arching an eyebrow and crossing her arms in front of her chest as she regarded him. His blue eyes darted between her and the Oreo in his outstretched hand.
“What? Don’t believe in the five-second rule?”
“Westley.”
“I can get you a new cookie. It’s no big deal.”
“Westley Graham.”
“But it would be a total waste of a cookie and you know what Grandma Snow always says — waste not, want not.”
“Kid, it’s two in the morning.”
“Actually, it’s one thirty-two, so you’re—”
“Your bedtime is eight-thirty,” she cut him off, rubbing at her temples as her irritation with him rose.
“Yeah, I know.”
“Really? You do? So, you’re not actually here? You’re upstairs like you were supposed to be for the last six hours and I’m just hallucinating right now? I’m not actually witnessing you out of bed and destroying my furniture?”
“No, I’m here. I did actually go to bed at eight-thirty like you wanted…I just woke up and got bored. It’s not like we have a mandatory wake-up time.”
“You’re supposed stay in bed until six-thirty…” Emma replied through gritted teeth. Wes raised his eyebrows at her, looking disturbingly like Killian whenever he was feeling particularly obstinate.
“Says who?”
“Says me.”
“When?”
Emma pinched the bridge of her nose and mentally counted to ten to keep from screaming. When she looked back at her son, he was watching her with an expression that was caught between wary and amused. She was going to kill him.
“I’m saying it right now. Seriously. Kid, if you don't pick up that mess you’ve made of my living room and get your ass back in bed, so help me, I will tan your hide!"
“I’m pretty sure the law frowns upon child abuse.”
“Oh kid, you’re forgetting one teeny tiny detail, I am the law. Get some paper towels. Now.”
Catching her thunderous expression, Wes scrambled off the couch and headed into the kitchen. She was mildly impressed with how fast he was able to move on those skinny toothpick legs of his.
Emma let out a sigh, trying not to think about the ruined rug. Everything in her house was in a state of disrepair. The coffee table had watermarks on it. The couch had been broken more times than she could count. Even the television had small dents and scratches on the screen from the time Beth and Neddy had a lightsaber match that had gotten out of hand. What difference did it make that the brand new rug now had stains on it?
While waiting for her son to come back with paper towels, she went to work picking up the leftover Oreo crumbles on the couch. She deposited them in the empty side of the plastic container before sitting down on the dry side of the couch and turning her attention to the television. Her interest piqued as Dataline crossed the screen, detailing the disappearance of a young woman from Texas.
“They think her boyfriend did it,” Wes commented as he returned.
“What?”
“Christina Morris,” he replied, nodding his head towards the television. “They think her boyfriend kidnapped her. They’re not sure if he killed her or if he took her in Mexico or something.”
“Grim,” Emma remarked absently, picking up the last Oreo and biting it.
“Totally.”
“What the hell are you doing watching this in the middle of the night? You’re going to get nightmares from this stuff.”
“As if I don’t already have nightmares anyway,” he replied, not looking at her as he went about cleaning up the spilled milk.
Her anger and irritation melted away at his words, giving away to concern. She patted the place beside her. Wes hesitated, looking conflicted as he placed the soiled paper towels on the coffee table.
“Come here.”
He climbed onto the couch, placing some space between them. Emma was having none of it, pulling him by the shoulders and guiding his head into her lap like she often did when he was a much smaller boy and afraid of the dark. She brushed her fingers through his thick blond hair, frowning as she looked down at him.
“What’s going on?”
“Nothing.”
“What’s got you so shaken up?”
“It’s just…” He trailed off, averting his eyes and swallowing his words.
“Wes…It’s better to talk about it.”
“It’s embarrassing.”
“I’m your mom, kid. I wiped your bottom when you were baby. Nothing gets more embarrassing than that.”
“Mom, c’mon,” he whined, turning on his side and pressing his face into her stomach. She didn’t press him any further. Even when he was a baby, he had never responded well to being pushed into things. He had inherited both her and Killian’s stubbornness in tenfold. Getting him to do anything when he was a toddler had been absolute nightmare and he had only gotten slightly better in age, replacing tantrums with a defiant look and firmly stated “no.”
So, she did what she felt was best in these type of situations. She waited for him to open up to her, continuing to run stroke his hair and watched what was left of the Dataline episode on her TV screen.  They were showing interviews with Christina’s suspect boyfriend before Wes mumbled something against her clothed belly, his breath warming the fabric.
“What was that?” she asked, pausing her ministrations.
“Clowns.”
“Clown?”
“Clowns,” he repeated. “You know like killer clowns. Like in that movie, you know, It?”
Emma shuddered. She remembered the Stephen King novel vividly. She had read it back in when she was in prison and had nothing but time on her hands. It had given her nightmares as well.  She was aware it had been turned into a movie a couple of times, but horror movies had never been her thing and she had little desire to actually watch it. She had found the story to be disturbing at eighteen, she couldn’t imagine how terrifying it was to a twelve-year old. He shouldn't be watching or reading things like that.
“Wait a minute,” she frowned, coming to a realization. “How do you know about It?”
“Henry!” Wes replied a little too quickly.
“You, Westley Graham Jones, are a liar and a terrible one at that,” Emma said pointedly, giving him a tired glare. “One, Henry hates horror movies... and possibly killer clowns more than you do. Two, he would never in a million years let you watch something like that. So, tell me the truth this time.”
“Okay, okay, okay. Just promise me you won’t get mad?”
“I’m making no such promises. Seriously, Wes. The truth.”
He let out a heavy dramatic sigh. He was becoming more and more moody as he had gotten older. He was going to be a nightmare teenager. Emma was sure of it.
“Gideon and I snuck into a showing of it during Halloween. He said if I didn’t it would be because I’m scared, and I’m not scared of anything—”
“Except clowns,” Emma cut him off. “Wes, that’s an R rated movie. Gideon is fourteen and even he’s not old enough to watch those kinds of movies. You certainly aren’t. There are ratings on things for a reason.”
“It’s just a movie,” he scowled at her.
“Yeah. A movie that scared you badly enough that you’re having nightmares and are up at all hours of the night feasting on Oreos,” she replied, looking at the demolished empty container. “Your father is going to kill you. His sweet tooth is almost as bad as yours.”
“So? You can just buy more.”
“You think money grows on trees, don’t you?” she asked, unimpressed with his answer.
“Well, money is made from paper and paper comes trees so there’s that.”
“Smart ass kid.”
“Better than being a dumb ass.”
“God, you’re so my kid it hurts sometimes,” she muttered under her breath, rolling her eyes.
He was staring up at her with that impish little grin that seemed to have permanent residence on his face since the time he could walk. He was a good kid though, even if he did sometimes eat all the Oreos and wake her up at all hours of the night. Out of her five children, Wes was the most like her; a little rough around the edges and sometimes a little too smart with his mouth, but he was never malicious. He was just a little too defensive and wanting to prove to be people he was tough. She had been the same at his age.
She wanted to soften those edges. Hers had been bore out of a need to survive; they had been necessary to endure group homes, bullies, being homeless, being in prison and then later as the Savior. Wes didn’t need them. Nothing was going to happen to him, not while she was still breathing.
“You know it’s okay to be scared right?” she asked after a moment.
“What?”
“Being scared of things. It’s normal.”
He scoffed at her words. “You’re not scared of anything.”
“That’s not true,” she sighed. “Want to know a little secret?”
He nodded wordlessly in response.
“I get scared a lot,” she admitted. “I get scared all the time of things – villains, bills, that I’m not being a good mom—”
“But you’re the best!” Wes protested, cutting her off.
“Thank you for the vote of confidence, let me finish,” she responded gently. “The point is sometimes I get scared, but the important thing is to not let it control you. Sometimes fear is a healthy thing, but it shouldn’t paralyze you and stop you from doing things…Do you understand me?”
“Yeah…I guess…” He looked unsure.
“Do you know what makes me feel better when I’m scared…Knowing that I have your dad…and Henry…and your grandparents…and even Regina...I just know that having them in my life makes me stronger and that I’m not alone…and you know what, kid? You’re not alone either…you have all of us and even your brothers and sister.”
“I’m not trusting Neddy to fight off bad guys. He’s barely toilet trained.”
“Oh, stop, he’s fine. A little accident here and there isn’t bad. Give him a break.”
“He peed on my bed, Mom.”
“Like I said accidents happen. He’s not gonna be little forever. He might be even bigger than you and Har someday.”
“Yeah right,” he scoffed.
“All kidding aside, it’s okay to get scared but you can’t let it control you and your sleep schedule…”
“I know, I just…I’m not ready to go back to sleep yet.”
“And that’s okay…We can stay down here for a little bit and watch some TV but not all night, okay?”
“Okay,” he said, batting his forehead against her hand. She chuckled quietly to herself as she resumed stroking his hair. He reminded her a bit of the stray dog she used to feed back when she was in Boston, starved for food and attention.
A new episode of Dateline started, and Emma watched it half-heartedly. Her attention was more focused on the droopy-eyed boy in her lap. His eyelids were getting heavier and heavier as the minutes passed. He was asleep a good few minutes into the episode. She debated quietly whether or not she should wake him so he could sleep properly in his bed but loathed the idea of waking him up again.
She placed a brief kiss on his forehead before gingerly removing his head from her lap and placing a decorative pillow underneath it. She picked up one of the various throw blankets that were strewn carelessly across the floor and tucked him in. She left the television on, wanting to give him some source of light just in case Pennywise the Clown haunted his dreams again and woke him up. It was one of the few things she craved when she awoke from nightmares, being able to see her surroundings and make sure she was safe. She could only imagine that he might desire the same thing.
As she slipped back into bed, Killian wrapped an arm around her waist. He pulled her close and nuzzled his nose against her neck.
“You’re back,” he mumbled sleepily.
“Yeah. I’m surprised you’re awake.”
“You really think I was going to sleep without you in our bed, love?”
“Well…with the way you were snoring…”
“Hey now,” he muttered in mock offense, nudging her foot with his. “Wes back in bed?”
“You know it was him?”
“Educated guess really. He’s our biggest night owl.”
“He had a nightmare. He and Gideon have been sneaking into R rated movies.”
“We’re going to have to watch him. If anyone is going to be throwing secret keggers, it’s going to be him,” Killian commented.
“Probably, but let’s worry about that when he’s a teenager and not at two in the morning. Right now, I just want to go sleep.”
“Alright, love,” he chuckled before placing a kiss behind her ear. “Pleasant dreams.”
“Yeah, no clowns hopefully."
