Weird & Wonderful Wednesday
The NeoG, Near-Earth Orbiting Guard, are a space version of the U.S. Coast Guard (or, I guess, now the Space Guard?). This book is specifically about the crew of Zuma’s Ghost, and they are very much looking forward to the next Boarding Games, a competition between all the different branches of the armed services, since they only barely lost the previous year. But, it’s not all fun and games and bonding for the crew. A mission goes sideways, and, suddenly there’s strife, and danger, and whew…
It was such a fun read. It had awesome and unique characters that I found myself caring about, and, the science-y part of the science fiction was very fun to read. It reminded me a lot of The Expanse books too, which I liked, so, not surprising that I liked this one too.

book (lovers) - h.s.
a/n: okay i know ive said this about everything ive written but this one takes the cake for being so self indulgent its actually insane. excerpt she reads is from page 425 of ‘kiss the sky’ by kb ritchie :)) enjoy my loves, this is one of my favorite things ive written. oh also this is severely corny LMFAO
Splayed across the couch, she rested her head against the armrest while her feet lay idle in Harry’s lap, chin downturned as she read the book that dangled above her face, fingers softly tapping against the front and back covers. It was Sunday, and a big part of their ‘weekly reset’ as they liked to call it, entailed a full house clean, and while the dishwasher ran and the clothes were in the washer and dryer, they would read a little bit of their respective books.
However, what never failed to make people laugh, including Harry’s fans, was how drastic of a change their books would be in genre. How Harry would carry around an early century poetry book, while his girlfriend would carry around an annotated copy of a romance book, flashy tabs sticking out of the edges and all. It was always a conversation starter when they would go to cafes, and they would even try to switch books— which never failed to make Y/N laugh at the way Harry scrunched up his nose at the vulgar language on the pages. He almost always asked to switch their books when she ended up on a smut scene. Just his luck, he guesses.
“Switch?” Harry murmured, eyes looking up from his Bukowski book, seeing his sweet girlfriend peek her eyes up from hers.
“Um,” She said quietly, almost mouse-like. “Can we… I just, um, I just got to— a good part?”
“A good pa- oh.” Harry hummed, brows scrunched in confusion until he realized what she meant. “Uh… how about 5 more minutes? Give y’a bit of a head start right now if y’speed read?”
“Yes! Okay, going.” She smiled, eyes trailing back toward her book, flipping through the pages every 30-45 seconds, knowing she was now in a time crunch.
Harry watched in admiration as she grasped her book with one hand, fanning out toward the living room, her face now fully visible to him. He admired the way her brows would scrunch every so often, or how she picked up the habit of pinching her bottom lip between her fingers in concentration like he did. Or how her brows would furrow, and how she would blink the slightest bit faster when she found something cute, as if she was trying to paint a picture in her head without closing her eyes, finding the smallest reprieve in the semi-regular darkness.
She was his own personal jar of perfection. Of sunshine, of love, of happiness. She saved him. In every way a person can be saved.
“Okay, I’m ready,” she grinned with finality, sitting up to meet him halfway, knees hitting the side of his thigh as she held her book out, thumb in place of her spot. He smiled as she shook him right out of his thoughts, a serene glimmer in his eyes, heart nearly falling out of his chest in pure awe. Awe that someone could love him this much, and awe that he could love somebody this much.
This feeling almost felt beyond him.
“C’mere, actually. Lemme read t’you.” He smiled, pulling her into his lap, adjusting her so she rested against the crook of his arm and on the armrest. Clearing his throat, he began reading the first line of the new chapter in her book, pulling her closer every time she would swoon quietly, so quietly, it almost sounded like a bubble in her throat.
Eventually, she takes over, giving him a chance to rest his voice. She croons the words softly, the utmost intimacy permeating the room as she reads the words of of the ivory colored page, committing the inked words to memory.
Breathing softly, her voice light and her hand on Harry’s which rested on her stomach, she read, “‘I realize, in this very moment, that love was the only thing missing from my life. And it’s the only thing that matters to me.’”
“Tha’s so me.” Harry states, making Y/N lift her head up from his chest.
“What?” She guffaws, laughs bubbling from her chest. “Oh my god, I’ve turned you into me.”
“Wha’ d’you mean?” He says confused.
“Never in my entire time of knowing you, Harry Styles, have you ever said ‘that’s so me’. I’m literally turning you into a carbon copy of me. Day by day, baby.” She grins, book face down on the couch so she can talk to him and keep her spot.
“Umm,” He giggles. “Well, y’kinda take up… like… 90 percent of my life. So, I was bound t’pick up your silly lingo.”
“Sure, baby. But, yeah- I agree. Love— our love, really, is one of the only things that matter to me. In a different universe, if I didn’t have this… if I didn’t have you? I think I would be so lost right now.”
“And in every single universe,” he whispers, pecking a soft kiss to her lips. “I will always find you. My perfect Sunny girl.”

not to sound like an annoying karen, but i honestly, truly feel that netflix has fucked up the kdrama genre for good.
just 10-ish years ago, there were kdramas that the big 3 korean channels (SBS, MBC, KBS) would broadcast and then there were kdramas that the main cable channels (jTBC and tvN) would broadcast. and between those groupings, you got everything. you got 16-20 episodes of dramas that had heartfelt writing, filmed with bright colors, filmed with concise plots, that most of the time, ended WELL. you got a GOOD ending that was complete. the works felt authentically south korean. yes, there were cheesy tropes and moments that made you cringe, but it felt so real. and you had SO many kdramas airing during the week! you couldn't keep track of just how many!
cut to netflix coming in and making it big with kdramas with squid game and some romantic works and then suddenly they (and disney+) are making these short kdramas, less than 10 episodes, with generic filters, generic plots, and poorly written scripts that are just mere shadows of what kdramas used to be. they end shitty 90% of the time. and worst of all, they feel like american shows. and no, i don't mean sex scenes or action scenes because hey, i love change there, but i mean the entire VIBES are just off. they're not the kdramas i fell in love with, the ones that felt so human. and thanks to these big, foreign companies coming in, the main broadcast channels have basically shut down 1/2 their timeslots, and so many dramas aren't even getting aired these days.
yes times change progress is great robots will probably replace us all in a few years blah blah, but it's really depressing to me personally since i have such fond memories of the utter joy of kdramas, especially from the golden era of 2008-2017. and while there are some that escape the netflix!americanized! curse, it's unfortunately the majority that remain nothing but commercial puppets, rather than authentic entertainment.

Jikook Week 3 Complete ✔️ (26/12/23 - 02/01/24)
Their third week in the military is now complete and it's time to celebrate this milestone with a look back at this week in 2015.
It was the end of the year and BTS were run off their feet with the usual rush of end of year shows.
They performed at the SBS Award show on the 29th December......
......and at the KBS Song Festival on the 30th December. Big Hit's Twitter praised Jimin's solo dance break and JK's duet with Zion T. In Jimin's Twitter post he hoped people had enjoyed the performance.

On the 31st, while performing at the MBC Music Festival, they recorded their New Year messages for ARMY. Jimin was thankful for all the wonderful memories they had made that year and Jungkook was excited that he was finally going to be 20. He was anxious to be of age and looking forward to showing ARMY how manly he would become. Hmmmmmmm!
The MBC Music Festival show also produced this amazing performance of Perfect Man.

Notice Namjoon isn't on stage with them. He fell off a ramp the day before and was told to rest. Jimin commented on it in his end of year message.

I saw you had King Boo in the tags for 'Quest Tober. So, I'd like to make a request of either King Boo and his boos decorating the mansion or place for Halloween scares or could be an x reader type.

King Boo x Reader - Rest
You hummed a merry tune under your breath while hanging a string of fake spiders along the wall, feeling very soothed. Putting up decorations with the Boos was one of your most favorite things to do. Fall decorations, Christmas decorations– all of it was fun to do. Though, your most favorite decoration was the Halloween decor, of which was mostly stored in the attic.
As you carefully arranged the spiders, you couldn't help but smile at the memories that each decoration held. The Boos, your quirky, large yet lovable family, had a tradition of going all out for every holiday, but Halloween was the crown jewel. After all, the Boos were ghosts.
Next came the pumpkins, a vibrant contrast to the otherwise dark decor. You and the smaller Boos meticulously carved intricate faces and designs, setting them aglow with flickering candles. The mansion’s halls danced with the warm, golden light, casting playful shadows on the walls. There were already a few sitting outside on the porch, but a few usually went inside since there were far too many.
Once you were done, you glanced around… before pouting, realizing that there were a few more boxes left in the attic. You shuffled off, waving to a few Boos– who either waved in return or shyly hid behind their nubs. Although you’ve been with them for several years now, there were still a few Boos that haven’t grown adjusted to you quite yet.
Just before you were about to reach the small section of stairs that led up into the attic, you noticed that the King of all Boos, your lover… was on a little couch in the hall, seeming like a deflated beach ball. If that wasn’t abnormal enough, he was laying next to a few small Boos, his eyes closed.
You faltered a little, standing there with wide eyes. KB almost never was physically affectionate. Maybe he was low on energy?
Whatever the case was, you… weren’t sure what to do. Was he even ‘asleep?’ Ghosts couldn’t really sleep like normal mortals, but they could go into a sort of… trance…
You stared for a moment longer, glancing up at the attic. Bringing down boxes would be a bit too loud… You’d have to bring them down later, when he wasn’t resting.
After debating with yourself mentally, you quietly approached KB and the small Boos, careful not to disturb them. Gently, you reached out and ran your fingers through KB's translucent form. He stirred, his misty figure shifting slightly, but he didn't wake. It seemed he was indeed in some sort of restful state.
With a soft smile, you settled down beside him on the small couch, making sure not to disturb the little Boos snuggled against him. You watched the gentle rise and fall of KB's form, feeling a warmth in your heart that you rarely got to experience with him.
This was a rare moment of vulnerability for KB, and you cherished it. You leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to his ethereal form. "Thank you for all your hard work, my dear King of Boos," you whispered, your voice a tender caress.
As if in response, KB let out a contented sigh, a soft, soothing sound that mingled with the quiet hum of the mansion. It seemed he was aware of your presence on some level, even in this semi-conscious state.
You sat there for a while, simply enjoying the moment of closeness. Though, not wanting to ‘wake’ him, you eventually walked off giddily, going to busy yourself with something else.

(doing something stupid) can you allocate an array at a specific address during compile time in C++. This system is Harva-actually wait the docs say this is almost a built in feature. Hang on.
Hell yes okay I have the thing I want working, you just have to. turn off memory protection and use the IRAM_ATTR thing. That's fine. I think I can make this work I'll just block out a couple kB of nops for my plugins. For a moment there I thought I was going to end up using WASM. I might still, WASM is infinitely safer than this. But this is very funny.
Love function pointer syntax. Makes perfect sense in that awful C way.
That array is just the -O0 implementation of an add in rv32. If you optimize it it's like two instructions but I just wanted to make sure I could execute more than one in a row. I think if you compile right with -fPIC/-fPIE and all that jazz you should just be able to dump that into RAM and execute. Since all your jumps will be relative?

You met Atsumu when you were a sophomore in college and he had just joined the league. You lived in a bubble and it wasn’t until the season ended that you were on winter break, that it finally popped. He met your family and you met his. While over his childhood house, you felt you were like walking through a museum of his life. Embarrassing photos hung up on the walls with his twin, friends he had mentioned in passing, old teammates and-
“Tsumu, who’s this?” you ask staring at a picture from his graduation. Atsumu was on the right, Osamu on the left, and in the middle-”
“Oh, that’s my ex-girlfriend,” he says nonchalantly, coming in from the kitchen and shrugging at the photo, then leaves as quickly as he came.
“Oh,” you whisper to yourself, “that’s her.”
You’ve never met Atsumu’s ex, but sometimes it feels like you’ve had. You’ve heard countless stories of what everyone else calls ‘his first love’ they met in middle school and dated up until graduation when she broke up with him hours after they walked the stage.
“Why’s the photo still up?” you call out.
“My mom liked how Samu and I looked in it. Why ya’ jealous?” he teases and you laugh.
“Not all at all.”
And you weren’t. Until you found her in more photos, more memories that she was in, places she had been with Atsumu that you hadn’t yet. You weren’t jealous until you found her bracelet under his old bed. You weren’t jealous until he smiled when he saw it remembering how much she complained about losing it the night before their last first day of school. You weren’t jealous until he texted her a photo of it, finding her contact a little too quickly. You weren’t jealous, you weren’t. Because he’s yours. Yeah, she’s his first love but he loves you now, and that’s what matters, right?
You’re not jealous.
That is until she texts back and he replies. And he remembers that she was one to recommend a new conditioner for his bleached hair to make it softer. The soft hair that you love to run your fingers through. That’s because of her. The stud on his left ear, the places he takes you on date nights, the cologne he wears. Her, her, her.
You can’t find a way to separate the two, you feel as if she made him, she built the man before you if that’s so what’s stopping her from coming back and claiming what’s hers.
You’ll get distant. Pull back, he notices and he’ll reach for you in the night, bringing your body closer to his and just when you want so sink into his touch- his phone chimes. It’s a small chime, quiet, but nonetheless, a storm ensues.
“It’s over!”
“Yeah, by your choice or hers?” you wonder.
“She broke up with me you know this!” he screams. It’s one the morning but the two of you are wide awake. She texted late, because of course she did, she ‘needed a place to crash’ and thought your boyfriends couch seemed like the place to do it.
“And if she didn’t?” you ask.
“I’m with you!”
“Would you be if she didn’t?”
“What are ya doing asking that?”
“Would she be sleeping in this bed instead of asking for the couch if she didn’t? Would she be here instead of me?”
“Y/N-”
“Thought so,” you whisper and storm out of the bedroom suggesting, “text her back, wouldn’t want to keep her waiting.”
“Y/N!”
You grab your keps and fling open the door for your heart to sink.
“You,” she says, with an amused smile.
You’ve never met Atsumu’s ex.

True, almost everybody was doing it at some point. I think 80% makeup I've ever downloaded was 512x512 Raw32bit. And it just doesn't make sense. If they cared about quality so much, why not use DXT5 1024x1024? Looks a fraction better than 512x512 Raw32bit and the files are a bit smaller when compressorized.. (so it has the same impact on texture memory or maybe less?)
I did a few comparative pics of the banding on darker colours. First, I used black gradient, which is the most unforgiving. Let's be honest, none of this looks really good 🥲. But check out how much less banding is visible on 1024x1024 DXT5 versus 1024x1024 Raw32bit (!):
And when it comes to pore mask pics: Raw32 can't save the day. I actually did two versions of 1024x1024Raw32bit, pic features the second one where I used 16 bit PNG with smoother gradients just to be sure it's not the texture's fault.
Compressorized masks above were 609 kb for 1024x1024 DTX5 vs 661 kb for 512x512 Raw32bit (vs 2522 kb 1024x1024 Raw32).
Last but not least, if you care about quality, don't use DXT3. It can make very fine details a bit noisy and file is the same size as DXT5 so there is no benefit.
