Finally watching Spiral! Considering I spend a lot of time thinking about the Saw series I should have watched this a long time ago.

Onto reactions!

Ew, the two things I hate most: sewers, and public port-a-potties. I loath using port-a-potties.

Oooh, updated realistic pig mask! I like!

Ah, the tongue trap I've seen in so many thumbnails. It's even worse when you see hes hanging by his tongue over some kind of flimsy little stool.

Going back to the old box TVs? Must have raided a goodwill.

New voice sounds weird, not sure if I'm okay with it. You'll see.

Okay, pretty iconic sequence right off the bat. Super uncomfortable looking trap, good buildup, lots of blood. A real saw movie.

My rebuttal to Chris Rock's rant about Forrest Gump is that Jenny did not ask Forrest to do any of that and... oh shit, it's the po-po. But I guessed Rock was a cop from the promotional material but this was a good reveal.

So 12 years ago was the Saw 6 and 7 era. That was a time where people would have wanted dirty cops turned in. Hoffman was on a fucking killing spree, gotta nip them in the bud.

It's nice to know that if my dead body was ever found, the cops would immediately take me seriously because my fitbit would tell them that I'm not unhoused.

Jigsaw used an old ass tv in the trap but a USB stick for the video. I guess it's near impossible to find any tapes or tape players.

Holy shit, I'm feeling super emotional. Great use of the Saw theme at the end there, great payoff to everything. I literally said 'pulling the strings' earlier without realizing how true it is.

I say this is a great offshoot to the Saw storyline. John Kramer is not involved, he only inspired the killing spree. The title is great because Schenk leaned into the spiral motif to emphasize a symbol used by Jigsaw that was not Billy. 'From the book of Saw' is giving me 'Cult of John Kramer' vibes, which I like. It shows how he was so influential as a serial killer who targeted 'bad' people in an attempt to reform them that other people began to copy him. I can see so many others trying to be the next Jigsaw. Of course, Schenk did all of this for personal reasons to seek revenge. Besides Cecil, Kramer actually wanted people to survive and be reformed. I dont think Hoffman cared if people won or lost, but he still made all the traps survivable. One step up from Amanda.

I'm now super interested to see where Saw X takes us. Saw in spaaaaace? Smashing someones face with liquid nitrogen? Uber-Jason?

season 002 : story 010 : episodes 046-051

IT IS FORBIDDEN TO DUMP BODIES IN THE RIVER

This has so much going for it;

Not just the return of the Daleks, but the first return of a villain ever. And they’ve invaded Earth and now roam the streets of London- fantastic example of fanservice at the peak of Dalekmania.

Location filming, which not only elevates the quality by having it free of the studio, but allows for amazing sequences like Barbara, Jenny & Dortmun running through abandoned London or Daleks on Westminster bridge (the fact they didn’t use this shot [] remains an absolute crime)

Rather unfortunately… Susan’s departure; Yes, she’s massively important to Doctor Who, not just as the first companion, but as the Doctor’s granddaughter.. but holy hell she’s so.. bland? Obnoxious? “Unearthly” intelligent yet dumb as bricks in subjects she is established to know (and just in terms of common sense, too).

The TARDIS materialises on the banks of the Thames, next to a poster “IT IS FORBIDDEN TO DUMP BODIES IN THE RIVER”, right after a Cyberman.. (wait).. commits suicide by drowning…

A perfect opening sequence to capture the tone and scale of this story (given it appears to be location filming from the start).

Now the Doctor does unavoidably say *that* jolly-good smacked bottom line, BUT for god's sake… Susan, against the group's advice, tries to climb onto the bridge they’ve landed under, falls and twists her ankle, AND LITERALLY COLLAPSES THE BRIDGE (burying the TARDIS). Yeah the line’s got bad undertones, but anyone who uses that as an example of 60s Who being vitriolically misogynistic… you weren’t paying attention to anything other than Hartnell’s line.

Back to the actual episode, the saucer flying in the sky is super ominous, and the Dalek ascending from the Thames is such an iconic cliffhanger.

The realisation of post-apocalyptic London is fantastic, and would have only been done properly by having such extensive location shooting as they did. The fact they got downtown London cleared in broad daylight to do filming remains an unmatchable feat.

Like the original story, the sequel also has a bit of drag nearing the end, but still has that exciting and climactic end of the using the Robomen's control device to order them to fight the Daleks. The shot of the mine blowing up with everyone running out is also pretty cool.

Another… thing… this story has is the David & Susan romance. It's not… amazing, and I'm not a fan of the whole leaving-for-a-dude-she-just-met trend (Susan, Vicki, Jo, Leela, Peri?, Mel?). Those last two are debatable, but four is already five too many. That being said, you actually see Susan & David having a lot of time talking, and them getting through quite a few scrapes when it's just the two of them… a bond is fairly reasonable. The Doctor basically making the decision of her staying, and locking her out of the TARDIS is pretty fucked though let's be real…

And with that, we say goodbye to our first companion; goodbye Susan, I hope I like your replacement more (spoiler alert : I do).

Wednesday 31 May - Great Broughton to Blakey Ridge

This morning we were driven (in a car😂) from our hotel to the point where they picked us up last night - Clay Bank Top.

After a hearty breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausages, cereal, yoghurt, toast and tea (I have been eating twice as much and drinking alcohol twice as much as usual) we set off on a pretty steep ascent back up into the moors. It was, for the first time, actually raining and chilly, later becoming cold enough for gloves and jackets.

After the climb we were on what was once a rail track - a wide flat rail trail that meant the rest of the short day was effectively a route-march over the moors. It certainly added something to the authenticity of the experience - you expect fog and rain here - and so it was!

Anyway, we finished early - around 1:00 and have arrived at The Lion Inn. Spacious and sort of isolated - except there are plenty of car in the car park and diners in the restaurant. That said, we were told that people have been snowed in here for up to a week at a time.

Very excited that there are only two days to go and the end of the walk is literally in sight - well on the map anyway. It will be a welcome relief for Jenny’s feet at the very least, but also a sense that we are going to complete the Coast to Coast - one of the world’s iconic walks.

𝐉𝐄𝐎𝐍 𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐎𝐋𝐄 (Hangul: 전니콜), also known as “MINJI” professionally, is a fictional British-Italian celebrity. At present, Minji is a part of the South Korean idol group NCT. She currently a member in NCT’s Dream, a sub-unit of NCT. MINJI is an idol under SM Entertainment based in South Korea. MINJI holds the roles of Vocalist, Dancer, Rapper, Centre, and Face Of The Group in additional to being the only female member of the group.

On September 3, 2018 NCT DREAM’s mini album “We Go Up” marked the group’s official comeback, which also featured the other seven members, including MINJI.

As of now, MINJI promotes as a member of NCT DREAM. In August of 2021, MINJI debuted as a soloist with her album called ‘Viva L’amore’ with her title track ‘Black Swan’ featuring her group member Mark and Chanel of NCT
