Quick headcanon:

Gatsby is over at Nick’s house and sees a stack of books on the table while Nick is out of the room doing something idk. He picks up one that’s unlabeled and starts reading and finds it a very beautiful collection of poems and other snippets. Nick comes back, Gatsby asks him what the book is, turns out it’s Nick journal for writing ideas and Gatsby is like “holy shit you wrote this damn.” Nick gets sad and tells Gatsby not to patronize him, and Gatsby grabs his hand and goes on a rant about how he might not be the best judge of writing but the passages he read were the most beautiful thing he’s ever read. And Nick just sorta stares blankly cuz no one has ever EVER earnestly complimented his writing, especially not in such a passionate way. Up to you what happens after
