People who call Helnik a “straight” relationship are dancing dangerously close to my block list…

oh my god the end of this fic is so dumb. wwx survives everything in canon and then the fall off the cliff and lives as a rogue cultivator for over a decade then gets caught and ONE cut to his leg is what's going to kill him now? obvs it doesn't because there's going to be a happy ending but the kids have to save the day lmao. I'll believe one cut can be fatal but the leg just sounds nonvital (yea the femonal artery is there but its not the best choice imo wwx is a survivalist!). make it the stomach at least!!

also its really clear that the author didn't want to deal with any painful relationship drama in the finale so they rewrote the story so nobody has anything to be mad at each other for and it's all the Bad guys (xy, jgy, evil) and the Good guys (lwj, jc, wq, jyl, lsz x2, all aligned in everything and in total agreement and always getting along) it's SO boring. the only character dynamic thats unfriendly is lxc and lwj, and lxc isnt even THERE. I like when characters make up, but the drama is like 75% of the fun of the show and the camps are just split into 'generic bad guys' and 'generic heroes' and besides surface personality traits (jc yells, xy is mischievous, jyl is polite yet dangerous) they're all basically acting the same which is just bad writing! also the finale coming down to a physical overpowering of the villain is also kind of uninspired. the hours of emotional manipulation and breakdowns and betrayals and heavy conversations >>>>>>>>>

it doesn't feel like the canon characters' interaction with each other, it feels like a 4kids rewrite that renders everyone extremely simplistically for the sake of feel-good dynamics at the cost of everything the original story was about. this isn't inherently a bad thing, but it's an aspect for fanfic that annoys me because it's ultimately a story that is far inferior to the original work and erases so much that was meaningful and unique about it

I don’t think I have to tag anything specific but be warned there’s probably something bad in here so if you understandably don’t wanna read that then scroll. Expect cyborg related angst (and minor spoilers)

Also I hc Boothill as nonbinary (using he/they and occasionally she) so if you’re wondering about the use of multiple pronouns that’s why, it’s not related to the angst, I just don’t want people to be confused.

-has a sensation of touch on the metal parts of his body, but it’s visibly muted compared to his skin and it drives them nuts

-despises hot/cold temperatures due to how they interact with the metal parts of their body, on especially hot days

-very vulnerable to hacking and it scares the shit out of him (thanks past obsession with Genji for giving me this one, the amount of “Sombra hacks Genji and he has a bad time” stuff I have read is unhealthy, even if she would only do it for the shits and giggles or a mission, a character losing control of their body is unfortunately very compelling please don’t cancel me)

-can’t remember their past life or how he died but still has nightmares of it

-phantom pain is a bitch and her name is Boothill

-won’t be seen as human by most people (even actual people write him this way which is a little weird to me, like I know the Robot/Human tag w Boothill serving as a Robot is probably just for reach, but like, he’s still human, he’s not a robot, he’s a cyborg, idk it’s just a pet peeve of mine)

-has to go to the scientist who made him to get “upgrades” (aka whatever they feel like fucking with this week) against their will

-he can’t remember his old life, but they can remember how their body felt back then and the cyborg one distinctly Doesn’t Feel The Same

-Boothill’s synesthesia beacon doesn’t just prevent Boothill from cursing, it prevents her from saying certain things entirely which makes it very hard for him to express his feelings

-charging induces sleep for them, something which Boothill tries to hide as it could be used against him

-debating between making Boothill unreasonable heavy (because metal) or unreasonably light (because high tech) both scenarios cause problems for him, feel free to torture yourself for as to why

-animals (especially dogs) don’t like them as Boothill doesn’t have as strong a scent nor the flesh of other humans which is why it’s hard for them to trust him, which sucks for Boothill because he loves animals

-doesn’t even know the planet they were originally from or how old he was when he died, Boothill doesn’t even know their birthday, so it ended up becoming the day he was brought back to life against his will

-gets called “it” by people who don’t like cyborgs or people that are non-organic/have nonorganic parts of their body/existence, I also share this for the trailblazer because of their dubious origins, I’d like to believe transphobia isn’t a thing in Star rail because it’s already tiring enough irl and there’s no proof for it unlike other real world problems, so the misgendering happens for other horrible reasons! Horrible reasons that are close to canon considering the whole organic/inorganic war thing depicted by the Sim Uni, I’d imagine a lot of people are still bitter about that (honestly I don’t know the details I was there for the jades) and/or ignorant enough to believe that only fleshy beings have a monopoly on personhood (it/its pronouns are cool but not on people who don’t want to use them!)

-constantly pushes the limits of their body (aka self destructive behavior), I doubt Boothill would be trying to hurt herself but it’s more of a “it will get fixed anyway” kinda thing, any injuries sustained still hurt like a bitch but Boothill forces himself to not care because well “it’s his job and he will get healed anyways” (also it’s implied from their LC that he’s a Galaxy ranger against his will from the whole “never living for themself again” thing, so Boothill probably has to get injured for the job and is just forced to grin and bear it

alright that’s all the angst my sleep deprived brain could cook up for now if I did something wrong or missed a tag pls tell me

You know, I have seen several people commenting that Five is being a hypocrite because he told Viktor that someone who goes off and does their own thing without telling anyone else is a villain while Five does that sort of thing all the time.

But maybe Five DOES think he’s a villain. He goes around killing innocent people for the Commission. He killed the board. He is the one who killed Lila’s parents and subjected her to being raised by the Handler. Five states multiple times that he doesn’t like killing. And if Five can avoid killing anyone that is just a bystander he will. In fact he tries to stop the fighting. Five has no problems with making peace with the Swede and Hazel when the others want to stop.

Five doesn’t thrive on violence. He wants to retire. Which is a pet peeve of mine. Yes, his world revolves around apocalypses but not because he loves it but because he can’t escape them. His luck is just bad and he keeps ending up at the end of the world on accident then just having to deal with it. He doesn’t want this but it’s his life and he is just living in it. Other characters that say he loves it only say that because every time they see him, he’s talking about an apocalypse. But he’s only talking about it an apocalypse because there’s literally one about to happen within the week. If Five had more time to play around like the rest of his siblings, he wouldn’t be talking about the apocalypse and would interact with his siblings in different ways. Like with Klaus and the ball of twine. Five is just never given that opportunity so he he decided to ignore the end of the world in S3 and create those moments with his siblings.

I think what Five was trying to tell Viktor is to not become like him. And maybe Five even thinks that death would be a better alternative to becoming a person like him. So he would see killing Viktor as a sign of mercy to prevent that tragedy. Or maybe it’s because that kind of threat is the only way Five knows to get his point across but has no intentions of actually following through. It’s very obvious that his siblings think it’s the only way Five can communicate is through violence and would probably get distracted and call him a liar if he tried saying how much he cares about them.

Five probably also wanted to tell Allison to not become the villain either but he recognized that she was too far gone to listen to him. So Five focused on the sibling that would listen to him and he would have to figure out another way to deal with Allison.

Five wants to retire. He wants to live a peaceful life with his family. He wants to enjoy his life for once instead of fighting for his survival all the time. He wants to stop being the villain.

It's been FAR too long since I've posted about Crosshairs/on this account at all, and somehow I still have tons of people interacting with the content....so thank you very much!!!!

Today I wanted to kinda approach a subject I inch away from because everyone has their own perspective and views on crosshairs as a character. Simply because a lot of his personality you have to makeup with the lack of attention placed on him in Bayverse.

I think though that I have a pretty good feeling of his character so I figured I'd share some things with people after analyzing him in the movies (a million times)

Section 1 (Teamwork)

One of Crosshairs biggest "made up" traits is that he hates teamwork, which is kind of just this generalized idea bout him which just isn't true at all!! Infact, he's one of the only Cybertronians in the movie to actively partake in on screen teamwork! (with drift actually, three times!)

I won't get heavily into the teamwork between the two, because I could infact go on forever but the tag team with onslaught, when fighting Megatron in The last night, and once more in Age of Extinction! Which is hard to tell because you don't see it, but they switch dinobots/ride the same dinobot multiple times if you count the number of dinobots without a autobot on em!

Crosshairs overall ability to work with other people is EXTREMELY overlooked because of his opening scenes in AOE, which I totally understand!

Another pet peeve of mine is when people call him the starscream of the autobots, don't get me wrong! Love starscream, but Crosshairs is just....the complete opposite. Starscream places actual effort into harming Megatron and/or taking his place. Crosshairs talks big yes, but never raises a hand to prime and is one of the only bots who just shuts up and doesn't go against OP's orders OR makes a snarky comment. When it comes to Optimus prime, it seems he has a lot of respect that he doesn't know how to deal with. This point just gets proven more in the end of AOE when Optimus "tames" grimlock.

Mini section 2 (Accent)

This one is pretty well known information, but I have seen people confuse his accent for Australian or something similar to it. It is infact British and NOT Australian.

Section 3 (Redditors)

I might get....a little passionate in this section, just simply because this makes me very upset. The whole argument that Crosshairs was written by a child (which surprisingly was said a lot) and that his Design is slighty weird.

Firstly, Crosshairs entire character is NOT classic generic hero. Infact, most people see him as the farthest thing, some people don't see him as hero at all!!! Crosshairs has a undeniable ability to hate what he does, but is amazing at it regardless.

While he may not want to do it, (which might be tied into his past, that I won't get into becauase I've already gotten into it before in a previous post) he always always does and he's never actually left anyone behind or betrayed anyone. Crosshairs character is extremely in depth, not because he's "edgy" or because he's just this mean stereotypical character. It's because he simply is just that kind of guy.

When you think of Crosshairs personality, try to picture a fun guy, topped off with this irritable personality, a gruff exterior but sort of soft on the inside obviously. He never admits how much good he wants to do in the world, becauase why would he do that? Crosshairs is definitely a believer in the "actions mean more than words"

To Top it All Off?

Firstly, if he had a sniper rifle: that'd be amazing. And a great element to include. Imagine him being all mysterious, hiding with a sniper rifle!

But unfortunately he has the point blank guns because, screentime, it looks better, and of course the Bayverse syndrome where your weapon has to match your personality!

I know lots of people have been saying this for a long time but trivializing OCD is actually fucking harmful to ppl with OCD. I completely failed to gauge the severity of my OCD or to notice how much worse things were getting or to get proper help until it drove me to the literal very edge between rock bottom and trying to eliminate myself from what had become a cruel life. And I know I’m not alone in that.

OCD is painfully debilitating, especially with my (and I’m sure many others) experiences of no treatment for it due to misdiagnosis and some outward symptoms being considered just a “quirkier” part of my autism for years. It has destroyed gigantic aspects of who i once was as a person that I hope can be at least partially restored with this intensive residential treatment I am entering really soon. I am looking forward to healing, and I hope it’s possible for me to experience my life without constant intrusive thoughts and so much fear and dread in my heart and stress in my bones. I don’t know if that’s a thing. I do know that this new med, trilafon, actually helps. But I still know I could be handling better- it’s all still there, just dampened slightly, but embers still glowing and little pieces of kindling catching and causing bigger flames between doses. And dosing is hard to time, also.

lil comments about being “so ocd” or “everyone has a lil ocd, mine is (insert pet peeve)” or talking about intrusive thoughts (unless u have another disorder going on such as a psychotic disorder that causes actual intrusive thoughts) fucking sucks and those who say stuff like that kinda suck for that rhetoric when my experiences with OCD have led to the destruction of entire familial, platonic, and romantic relationships. OCD convinced me that ending my life would fix the whole world for everyone, especially those aware that I exist in any capacity. And because of how I tried to do it, I can’t remember the last 48 hours I spent with my wife. I hate this.

It was so scary, and I’m grateful to be alive, but I feel like I did something wrong by still being alive. I hope that’s not true.

I wish I hadn't read B&G so young, I didn't have the breadth of knowledge or the foresight to mark anything for later when I was sixteen. I'd reread it for this exact analysis but really I don't think I have it in me so memory and ctrl + f to confirm will have to suffice.

Honestly, the biggest problem I had with it wasn't inaccuracies so much as the fact that the whole book reads like a Wikipedia entry. It's so clumsy and dry, it feels like AR just wants us to know how many Roman Facts she learned. It overshadows the story rather than adds to it. Fr, read this (if you can stand it).

There was not one reason in the world that she needed to explain the Battle of the Milvian Bridge in that level of detail, and that's coming from me. This sounds like a bad undergrad paper from a student who wants to prove they did the reading.

The whole book feels like this except when it detours into creepy and pedophilic, and I just don't need my vampire book to explain the Council of Nicaea AND the Edict of Milan AND the Parthian Wars AND the Vatican wall frescoes AND the Medici bank and a million other things to me like I'm in a survey lecture. It's mind-numbing for me and this is literally what I DO, so I can only imagine how other people must feel with no context or particular interest in this stuff.

It's not that she's WRONG per say, it's more that she clearly has no understanding of these subjects outside the rote recitation of facts. It's just regurgitated bullet points about Roman history and the Italian Renaissance. She also repeats some well known apocryphal stories in there, but I'm going to be generous and hope she doesn't think these are facts (like the Chi-Rho epiphany).

With that said, I do think AR had a very skewed understanding of the pederastic dynamic or was choosing to ignore it, which is unfortunate considering how attached she was to the idea. A lot of my thesis research coincided with Greco-Roman pederastic tradition, so it's a pet peeve of mine when it's misapplied. It's not an uncommon problem (Call Me By Your Name has this going on too), but authors sending gay relationships with a rapey age gap through a "pederasty" funnel always pisses me off.

The history of pederasty is very long and complicated and ancient (we're talking Homer and Iliad kind of old here), but the bare bones explanation of the process and logic is this:

The ancient Greeks were deeply invested in turning their upper class boys into good citizens. To accomplish this, sometimes an established adult man would woo a younger male (most often starting at 14-19 years old) with gifts and attention over an extended period of time. Once the courtship was complete and the boy's self control had been proven, there were sexual relations between the two for a period of time.

The purpose of this relationship was ultimately to educate the boy, and the physical pleasure was used as a teaching tool to establish rapport and intimacy that could then be escalated to instruction on matters of philosophy and intellect in general. Essentially using the mastery and maturation of one's body as a stepping stone to the mastery and maturation of the mind. Once the boy was appropriately prepared to enter elite male society and/or had become physically developed as a man, the relationship ended.

It's pretty obvious that she's trying to do a whole pederastic erastes/eromenos thing with Marius and Armand, but she took an already very bad and gross practice from history and muddled it up with her own awful ideas about consent from minors and sexual fantasies of a kinky student/teacher savior relationship in her vampire books.

I hate the erotic and romanticized version of pederasty that's become weirdly popular in gay media, and AR was one of the first to really do this. It just picks up the historical thread of CSA under the guise of a kid's "consent" and continues to normalize it to modern readers with a new sexy twist. Using a bastardized version of a fucked up ancient practice to implicitly justify or downplay the severity of statutory rape is simply not the move, especially when gay and bisexual men already face stigma around being predatory and pedophilic. Just don't.

In your own words, tell us what you like most about your OC.

It's hard to narrow it down because I just adore Vivian. She was the first original character that I created in the Choices World, and I felt like she almost created herself. It was within my Delaying the Inevitable Universe, and we met her when she walked in on Casey in her son's apartment wearing his bathrobe. After Vivian realized Casey was being truthful, there was nothing going on between her and Tobias, she made it her mission in life to change that.

At that point, I didn't know I'd have a full T/C headcanon, much less have Vivian a part of it, but I couldn't let go of her. She's a strong, smart, powerful, intuitive woman. She's witty, quick thinking, and can verbally disarm anyone in a nanosecond. Sophisticated and worldly, but she has quite a backstory, that wasn't always her life.

Despite a sometimes intimidating exterior, she has the biggest heart. She will defend those she loves to death. The way she and Tobias banter gives me life! lol

Do you feel your OC is like you at all? How are you alike or different?

We have some similarities, but I wouldn't say a lot. We both think quick on our feet and enjoy bantering/teasing. We also love putting a bully or bigot in their place. We're both extremely loyal to those we love and understand they're the most important thing in life.

While we both grew up, not poor, but not well off by any stretch, I never had to endure the overt and systemic racism that Vivian did.

We both put ourselves through school and are quite proud of it, but she followed her dreams, and I allowed myself to be talked out of too many of mine. She's definitely got more confidence than I do. I also never married into extreme wealth lol, nor did I marry - and lose - the love of my life.

But we both adore our children and would do anything for them.

What is most important to your OC? What is their motivation in life?

Her family. There are other things - justice, equity, an intense desire to prove her naysayers wrong... but nothing comes close to her family.

What are their biggest pet peeves/dislikes?

Ignorance. Especially wilful ignorance.

Racism and sexism.

Dishonesty.

Her sons making her wait decades before they get their shit together and settle down. lol

If your OC could change one thing - anything - what would it be?

The one thing she'd like to change more than anything is her late husband, Charles's death. He was the love of her life, and while she's managed to go on and live a full life without him, no one knows just how difficult that's been. Even more so, she knows the toll his death has taken on her boys, especially Tobias, who was not on the best of terms with him when he passed. While this is her greatest wish, she knows it can't happen, and she doesn't even know if it should. She doesn't like the ending but has a strong faith and believes this happened by God's design, so she doesn't feel right questioning it.

For something she feels she has a bit more of an ability to impact, she'd want to make the world a better place for her granddaughters and children like them. She knows things like systemic racism and misogyny are so ingrained in our society that they'll be almost impossible to fully overcome, but she sure as hell won't let that stop her from trying.

Also, I see Vivian as a strong ally for LGBTQIA equality. She will admit this isn't something she understood well in her younger years, but she now has a bisexual daughter-in-law, and eventually, her son, Jordan, comes out, and later, her granddaughter, Kayla. Inequity and discrimination are things that she abhors, and when she begins to what the community faces, she is a vocal ally who puts her time, money, and energy where her mouth is.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your OC?

Vivian is not perfect. Sometimes, her sarcasm and humor can be viewed as acerbic. She is a loving and doting mother, and as a grandmother, triple that, but she acknowledges mistakes she made when her boys were small. She and Charles had a love so strong that sometimes, it may have made the boys feel secondary, even though they never were. Also, she was determined to prove she belonged in her husband's world, not so much for herself but for those who would follow - most importantly, her children. But she acknowledges that sometimes she was so busy pursuing that agenda that she lost sight of little things that were, in the end, far more important.

She has so many accomplishments in her life that the list could go on for days. But the one thing she is most proud of is the relationship she has with her adult children, their partners, and her grandchildren. When she closes her eyes for the last time, she knows she leaves behind a legacy of love, and that's all she ever wanted.

i’m very outgoing and extremely extroverted like my friends say. i’m the type of person that is always talking 😭 if you put me in a room with a stranger, the chances are extremely high that i end up befriending them (unless i feel like they don’t want to talk). but i get bad days too like other people and sometimes i just shut down and won’t talk unless spoken to.

while i am friendly, i also keep my circle small. i don’t have the ability to maintain a thousand of friendships so i have only a handful of friends that i am reallllyyyy close to.

i am very emotional and have the worst case of fomo. when i see my friends hanging out without me, i immediately feel like it’s the end of the world which is stupid and currently trying to resolve that. the way i cope is usually joining whatever org i can which makes me an extremely busy person at times.

i don’t get mad at people very often (i am easily annoyed though) and when i’m mad, i easily forgive but i /never/ forget.

i love discovering new music but my current favorite artists are phoebe bridgers and haim. i have a short-ass attention span when it comes to series and it’s been forever since i finished one. i’m more of a casual viewer, so i like movies better (especially romcoms)

what i don’t like is people who are extremely judgy and only see people negatively. it’s a pet peeve of mine when people are so quick to judge. i also hateeeee liver (although my mom encourages me to eat it bc i have iron deficiency…) but i love eating a mix of vegetables.

i’m a hopeless romantic by the way! i genuinely think that i won’t ever settle for any other than the tender and sweet kind of love. my love language are acts of service and quality time. i also really appreciate if someone listens to my ramblings tirelessly.

one of the things that i look for a partner is that he’s an active member of the community like me; it helps me see if he’s truly responsible. i also want him to care about his studies as much as i do and he should have a set goal in life. i want someone to have a direction in life, and knows that we shouldn’t be each other’s ONLY priorities.

this is a tough one! when i go hunting for fics i normally start w my Fave Character Tags (... treavor pendleton, george hodgson ao3 pages saved to my phone bookmarks smhhhh). probably dishonored fic is my fave to read actually? bc people do so much fun stuff with The World :^)

11. How do you come up with your fic titles?

normally they come from a spoken line in the text of the fic! or sometimes a bit of description... or something from the canon. like the working title for a different kind of man was "stained glass". the fics in the takes two to quarrel series were all named for lines in the fics, except for imperfect life which i lifted directly from canon text (and the series was named for a line in imperfect life)

nlwib's name comes from that one line of wallace's in game thats like - "I must prepare the mourning garments. His lordship has never looked well in black.". i often think that if i was gonna do a cleanup re-write i would just call it in black, but i did start posting it nearly eleven years ago and my Style has evolved since then lol

16. Do you research for your fics? If so, how deep of a rabbit hole have you gone down by accident when researching?

HFJSDKFHKS SEE MYSTERY MAN PART 2 in which I accidentally uncovered the history of one of the rl officers of the franklin expedition and have since seen real life Scholars talk abt things that were literally lost to history until i connected a bunch of dots on accident while trying to find out what early 19thc. eton was like. for a fanned fiction. me @ franklin scholars: get on my level wankers lol

i don't really Edit edit? things come and go as i write, then i'll get a version i like and probably give it a once-over in the ao3 preview to look for typos.

i don't really listen to music while i'm writing bc i get too distracted! either by lyrics or A Good Bit in instrumental music lol. but sometimes I'll play a single song on repeat through the entire thing like a deranged animal. i think the last nlwib chapter was written to Paris 1919 by John Cale on repeat for abt 40 hours lmao

John Wick Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum features some of the series’ most inventive, most satisfyingly kill-happy scenes. Its plot also tends to get in the way, particularly during the middle. At 131 minutes, this relatively straightforward story is far too long, though the sequel - set to be released in 2023 - could change that. If all of the new characters introduced throughout pay off later, this film may seem less bloated than it does now.

Excommunicated from the secret society of assassins whose operatives are everywhere, John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is now on the run with a $14 million bounty on his head. Seeking to escape the innumerable mercenaries on his tail, he begins cashing in favors from his former allies. Unfortunately, even those only take him so far.

It’s hard to pick which of this film’s many action scenes is the best. There’s one set in a library where John uses a thick tome in a way you’ve never seen before. This man really can use ANYTHING to fill another grave. If I were to choose, I think I’d have to go with another sequence, however. It’s set in a museum full of knives, axes, and other edge weapons. The choreography as the glasses cases are broken and the weapons are taken out is unbelievable. It’s so good you can’t turn away, even when someone gets their brutal comeuppance.

There’s more to Parabellum than just seeing John execute wave after wave of killers, however. There’s a plot that digs deeper into the world of the High Table. We learn more about who John was before he met Helen. More of the inner workings of the society are shown through “The Adjudicator” (Asia Kate Dillon) and several assassins who want to take down John… because they’re huge fans of his. It confirms our suspicions: the Continental is merely a piece of this huge society that operates as a world of its own. From the tattoo-clad Operators to the Concierge of the Continental Hotel (Lance Reddick) to the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) and his legions of turncoats dressed up like vagrants on every street corner, it makes so little sense it makes perfect sense.

One of the defining features of the series has been its New York location. John is always on the run - either chasing or escaping from someone. This means we’ve visited many of the city’s landmarks and several have been given a new identity within this world. This is one of the reasons why an extended sequence where John travels to Casablanca is off-putting. Though Sofia Al-Azwar (Halle Berry) is an interesting character with a fighting style all of her own, did this movie really need to travel all the way to Morocco? In the end, you know John’s business will have to be settled back in New York anyway, so all of these meetings he has with the Berrada (Jerome Flynn) and with the “Elder” (Saïd Taghmaoui) seem unnecessary. It’s cool for the movie to have aspirations to be more than an action film but some of this feels like it would fit better in a spinoff movie. I’m saying this because this road through the desert brings us to a movie pet peeve of mine: someone loses a finger. This sort of injury creates a wall between the story and the audience. We know they didn’t REALLY chop off the actor’s digit so in every scene from then on, your eyes always drift back to their hand to see if you can spot a gaffe. The finger is taken off as a display of fealty but it could’ve been done a thousand different ways. Why this?

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum may be the least of the series but it also contains action scenes so good they make what we saw earlier seem like nothing. Those opening moments, in particular, will knock your socks off, so much that even if the film drags towards the middle, you’ll still be entranced by this ballet of blood and bullets. This is an ambitious film with spectacular martial arts set pieces, the likes of which most other action franchises could only dream of. (June 24, 2022)

the firefighter show, episodes 3-5

okay the bouncy house thing is in fact one of my greatest fears <3

also, i'm pretty sure "repelling down a cliff" is not standard training and probably should not be handled by probie!buck. these things are usually done by special teams (eg, hazmat, water rescue, car seat), who are a select group of people who get trained on special rescue procedures (or other things) and are often not all at the same firehouse. is everyone on the 118 on every single special team? man, their salaries must be insane with all the extra team money they get.

hydrocodone? did anyone not give narcan as soon as they saw the pill bottle? that would have cleared things right up. actually, the cop should have immediately given narcan once she saw it was hydrocodone. cops do that all the time.

oh they're playing video games on shift? must be a holiday. because, you know, they're really not supposed to be doing stuff like that during shift. they have a lot of actual work they need to do during the day. like training. maintenance. cleaning. cooking. (this is actually a pet peeve of mine because while i understand the scene is supposed to be cute bonding, there's already a large contigent of people who think that firefighters sit around all day doing nothing and just waiting for calls and then complain because firefighters are paid by tax dollars. we don't need to feed into the they slack off when they're not on a call narrative, okay?? so many people think they do jack-shit during the day. for example at my husband's work, they're busy all morning with various firehouse tasks or training or education or other important things, like going to make sure that businesses are up to fire code. they get a two hour quiet time after lunch, and can technically do what they want but the idea is they probably want to get a nap in in case they're up all night. more firehouse tasks until dinner/clean up ajd then i think it's lights out/quiet time around 8pm--again, some free time to do quiet activities until bed. and then sleep/go on calls. my husband has brought his gaming laptop to work on rare occasion to play during quiet time but this is rare occasion, and he's far more likely to do it on holiday schedule when they don't have to perform near as many tasks) (see also, people complain about what firefighters buy for their meals at the grocery store everyday because "why should my tax dollars pay for them to eat that", totally ignorant to the fact that aside from communal condiments and stuff ffs put in their own money every morning to buy food for meals that day).

why isn't chim dressed in uniform. that's also kind of required. wait, did chim show up on an off shift day to talk to them? (that's not a thing that happens ever lmao). or did he just leave during shift after yelling at his officer???? write up write up write up.

wait, are they in fire gear for a medic call???????? whyyyyyyyyy you never wear that stuff unless you're at an actual fire. 1) it sucks and it's full of carcinogens. 2) it's heavy as hell 3) there's no point, you don't need fire gear on a medic call. (ps, buck's fire gear is missing his neon probation sign)

also, you never pick up a personal call on the job buck lmao. i actually know this from personal experience. (because everytime something goes wrong with the house and i need to get in touch with my husband he rejects the calls until he can call me back lmao) (these aren't super need him immediately emergencies btw, i think one had to do with the power/circuit breaker and i had no idea wtf i was doing and i needed to actually talk to him not just through text) (actually i think the only time he would have ever actually picked up a call from me during a call would have been when i was close to my due date. and even then, it probably could have waited 15 minutes for them to be done) (also if it was a true emergency, you call the firehouse and get a hold of their superior by calling their station or the main station if everyone at the station is out and then someone will get a hold of them)

okay, so they dress in full gear for a medical call, but they wear their class bs to a plane crash in the water? where's their water rescue gear? what is happening.

i have....thoughts on how this show conceptualizes the idea of the fire family versus what it actually is and why. and it has a lot to do with the lack of union presence in this show. but i will need to watch more to conceptualize my thoughts fully on this. but i will say this (and will repeat it): the fire fam is more than just one insulated station. you know who's actually really, really important? the people you went to academy with. my husband's got a friend from academy and they've actually never worked together since then, but they're still closer than half the people my husband has worked with. and if my husband ever ended up in the hospital, he'd be the first one to visit. all i'm saying, bobby, is that chim's academy buddies would like to have words with you about chim's family.

oh good, we're at the part where this show ended right away because bobby never would have been hired on another fire department ever again. listen, drugs and killing 148 people and most likely never being able to pass a psychological exam to continue doing this job, he supposedly was born in 1968, which would have made him 46 at the time of the fire. and while i did look up lafd's candidate requirements and there's apparently no upper age limit apparently (aside from common sense because you should not start an extremely hard physical job at 50 when you have to put in 30 years for the pension), there's probably several reasons why a 46 year old with a history of a debilitating back injury and drug/alcohol abuse would not end up being hired on at the lafd. and make no mistake, bobby would have to apply to work there. you don't get transferred from state to state, especially onto a big city department like that.

that being said, i will give them that addiction is a problem within the job due to the stress of the things they see and how physically stressful it is on the body. it probably varies by department, but here's how they handle it. here, you get one. one chance, one time you show up to work drunk or high and you are allowed to say "i have a problem" and the department will help you get helped. if it happens ever again, you're gone. do not pass go. do not collect $200. you're done. maybe you can try to get on a contract department or volunteer department instead.

It's kind of a pet peeve of mine when people diminish the Rise boys as fighters without their powers. They dont have their ninpo until the end of s2 and most of the time the plot of the episode made them unable to use their weapons so they CAN fight without them.

There is also the implication that they learn really freaking fast, just by seeing movements and techniques from the Lou Jitsu movies and Jupiter Jim comics they can copy and use techniques.

Point is, these guys are really talented

And I feel a lot of people forget that most of the time even with their strenght and mystic weapons, in their world, they were the underdogs

Their world is fun and colorful but also on crack

Most of their big bads were not the scheaming type because they were so strong already, nothing could really stop them from taking what they desired in that moment. They know how to improvise and they know how to take a huge beating like this guys are so freaking durable I remember how in a deleted (? scene they were being used as a demolition ball and they just seemed mildly in pain and don't forget how they spend 3 whole days fighting the Shredder.

My point is, while they are not classically trained the Rise boys are still talented and competent fighters without their powers.

1) toji: my FAVORITE character of ALL TIME and yes i do mean ALL TIME from ANY series… and i’ll tell you why… i have been BEGGING on my hands and knees for a MEAN HOT DILF ASSASSIN IN MEDIA FOR SO FUCKING LONG… and there like a beacon of light in the shadows was toji fushiguro… mean. hot. sexy. looks like he could and would step on me and kick my ass. also very sexy. just everything i wanted all rolled into one <3 and i also legitimately love love LOVE his character arc & backstory so much! heavenly restriction was PERFECT for him and i love that he genuinely fucked shit up + distorted fate… he came out the gate SWINGING!!!!!! also just the fact that he also Genuinely loved his wife and was truly a better man for her & himself and then she died… oh that’s just heartbreaking. him naming megumi “blessings” because names have meaning and megumi was truly his blessing… man i love toji so much. so so SO much. he’s sooooo multi-faceted and i love that no matter what at the end of the day, BOTH TIMES, his last memories were of his son and wanting to protect him. god i love toji <3 also elite character design i Love his scar & his massive tits and also. his spiky hair. 2) satoru: another elite character and design listen i looooove white-haired characters so much! they’re only second to black-haired characters <3 i also. genuinely. just love how much he loves his kids…….. him doing everything to protect the youth & always wanting them to nurture themselves/their friendships is so fucking sweet??? also i feel like some people just don’t understand that satoru is ACTUALLY, in my opinion, quite emotionally mature & also VERY responsible! he has so much on his plate/the world is on his shoulders and he carries that weight alone & willingly… i think it’s also another reason of why he wants his kids to get stronger… he knows curses won’t ever leave the world and he KNOWS he’s not infallible no matter how much he says he’s the strongest… i just think he wants the new generation to be better than him in every which way! also satoru had to do the work of essentially 3/4 special grades all by himself… yuki left, suguru went awol, yuuta only became an official sg in when he came to school and then he left during his 2nd yr… like i really genuinely truly honestly admire satoru SO much it makes me so upset when people don’t recognize that maturity and silliness can coexist! also him putting up infinity so no one can ever physically hurt him again… like i think people also forget that satoru… DIED. he DIED. when he was 16… and then he came back to life… like he’s such a traumatized character ALSO it’s another pet peeve of mine when people always attribute all of satoru’s best qualities to suguru like… i think people forget that satoru is also SUCH a good person in that he always calmed down suguru’s overthinking mind/would take the blame upon his OWN self… he’s self-sacrificial when necessary while also simultaneously easing the worries of his younger students… he’s my beloved. he’s in my lap as we speak i’m feeding him chocolate covered strawberries bc he deserves it. my baby boy my big baby

3) sukuna: BAD BITCH! I LOVE MEAN BAD BITCHES! I LOVE VILLAINS SOOOOOO MUCH I LOVE THOSE WHO ARE UNFORGIVING! WHO ARE EVIL JUST TO BE EVIL! NO RHYME OR REASON! also. listen. i fucking loooooooooove the idea of him doing this based on his whim… i just adore that when characters do it! if he’s hungry he eats, if he’s feeling murderous he kills, if he’s curious he keeps the person alive for the time being… he’s just so fascinating to me! i also just completely took sukuna and make him into bestie!sukie so i think i love him even more bc of that 😭 he’s just so fun and cool and fucked up to me! he’s everything <333

4) yuji/maki/yuuta: MY BABIES!!!!! MY BESTIES!!!!! MY REASONS TO BE 🥹🥹🥹 yuji is my son my baby child my sunshine boy and also. my badass kid <3 he’s so fucking cool i love him as a mc so much! so much abt him we don’t know esp when it comes to his backstory but you just can’t help but root for him! he’s such a genuinely good kid you always wanna see him win — and seeing him angry? pissed off? another fav of mine <3 the mahito vs yuji fight when yuji tells mahito he’ll kill him no matter the form? poetic cinema. also don’t get me started on geto & toji meeting yuji it’s in my brain all the time 😭 and MAKI IS MY DAUGHTER!!!!! literally like my fav female character of all time she’s so cool and badass and is so powerful! her reaching demon toji level and surpassing him??? DELICIOUS. also scarred maki is my fav character design ok the short hair + scars + yuki fit??? iconic. 5) suguru: hate this bitch in canon but love this bitch in kanon (kairo canon) <333 he’s a very. interesting character. i disagree w his entire logic and i personally find it foolish (maybe bc i’m a toji & maki truther and love heavenly restriction above all else) but suguru truly is soooo fascinating. even as a high schooler pre-defection he considered non-sorcerers weak and something that sorcerers had to “protect” i think that suguru is very very VERY paternal and i think that influences a lot of his decisions… he’s a literal PATRIARCH in his cult family + he’s technically nanamimi’s dad + he wants to usher in a new age simply to protect those he loves but what he fails to realize is that… he just creates more chaos! he was his own downfall at the end of the day and i do think that no matter if satoru/shoko intervened that he still would have defected i just think he was doomed from the start… you don’t just ingest curses and then not be affected by it y’know? i think eventually he also would have been consumed by negativity the same way he consumes negativity (curses) and ultimately? he was. he’s a wonderful character to me in that he makes me feel genuine anger at certain times and at other times i just feel pity! i love him. he makes me think & feel a lot of things which is why i Write for him 😭 you’re probably wondering well why is he 5th/8th if you write for him the most??? idk maybe he should be theoretically first but i just. like him in my brain more than i do in canon i think he’s unlikable in canon to me but he’s also my skrunkly… i have duality ok i love him i dislike him i want him carnally

No pressure to reply to this, but I just needed to say this bc I am such a hater for unsolicited criticism. I know some people don’t mind it, but it’s such a pet peeve of mine when people don’t think twice about how these things can affect you as a creative. There’s a time and place for feedback/negative-leaning comments, and unless someone specifically asks for it, then personally, I think it’s NOT that time and place. I can totally relate to how much of a bummer these kinds of unexpected comments can be. So anyway - *clears throat* - I’m here to cheer you on. 

You are doing such a great job, I think tnt is literally PERFECTION. Your world/character building is just *mwah*, and I’ve seen so many commenters say that over and over. And that includes yungi's relationship too. It's subtle, so maybe ppl who prefer reading lengthier character backstories/dynamics might not feel that the yungi relationship has been built up enough, but it’s definitely there, you’ve fleshed it out in all the right places. Plus, part of being a writer is making decisions on where to cut and using suggestion rather than overexplaining. Cutting 3 chps of world/character building is a choice you’ve made as a writer for this particular fic, and if my opinion counts for anything, I really like it the way you’ve done it. It’s got pace, puts you straight into the action, and a lot of us are here for that! Besides, you said you started tnt to have fun and explore new things in your work, so please continue with that feeling, be confident in your reasons for writing tnt in that specific way, and don’t think of anything else! 

If you agree with the crit you've received, you can file it away and work it out later when/if you feel ready to tackle it. At the end of the day, all those comments - they're all just opinions. Ofc you want people to enjoy your work, but write just for you and your own satisfaction. <3

Let me tell you, your writing has consistently been so tight and so good, so if you ever “disappoint” anyone you best know that it’s just a matter of personal preference for specific types of storytelling (i.e. I doubt it’s personal), and NOT a reflection of the quality or seamlessness of your work.
