Here are the final results of the fanart challenge :) Had lots of fun drawing them all! And thanks for the ones who participated. List and reason for picking them: 1. King- Owl House. 3 separate people requested it! I have not actually watched this cartoon, but he was the most requested character haha, I like his skull head design! It was weird that he only had two digits O_o I kept drawing him with a full paw in the rough drafts. 2. Rudy- Killer Clowns from Outer Space. I have watched Killer Klowns and when I got this one I thought oh damn that's a hard one. But I had to try it and see if I could pull it off. Turns out I love drawing droopy eyes and lots of folded skin LMAO I think he took the longest to complete from the rest. 3. Happy Mask Salesman - Legend of Zelda. I have not actually played the game he is from, but based on all the pics online he sure likes to smile! So obviously I had to draw that grin and squint in all his glory. He apparently sells an evil mask that makes the moon go nuts and want to kill the world?! 4. Beetlejuice - from Beetlejuice. I love Beetlejuice the movie and cartoon. I was actually shocked that I have never drawn him though! I think people tend to forget he was the VILLIAN of the movie haha. So I wanted to accentuate that part of his character. An evil ghost pervert with a record in the afterlife as a rogue murderer (bio-exorcist) 5. Bob Velseb - Spooky Month (Sr Pelo) This one was the poll winner for the last slots. He apparently is a human in a devil costume who kills and eats people on Halloween! I tried to show that mania in his expression which was kind of hard since he's a very simple design...basically a red smiley face with a sweater lol. But hopefully it reads well, and I was able to get him into my style well enough! XD 6. Spongebob - from Spongebob. This one was a poll winner for the last slots. Anyone who doesn't know SPONGEBOB is living under a rock. but yeah, that fun and cheerful sponge! I realized that he was kind of the odd man out of the list of killers and creatures haha so I drew him as how we would react being in this crowd of others haha. I have to say that although I have not drawn Spongebob he was VERY easy to get down on the first few rough passes....I think its because he comes from the era of late 90s cartoony goodness...yes he has been around since 1999! I had real fun drawing him!!

To anyone who has been watching me flail and gnash my teeth over the past year as I write a monstrously long fanfic and maybe thought to themselves, ‘Damn, should I watch Lucifer so I know what she’s talking about?’

My answer is, NO! Bestie, I cannot, with a clear conscience, recommend the TV show Lucifer to anyone who knows me here on Tumblr. Now, if you want to learn how to utilize parallels in story telling? Then, absolutely! Lucifer is a MASTERCLASS in utilizing parallels, both visually and narratively. A++

But otherwise, you will have to do your own soul-searching and research to decide if Lucifer is worth your time. Because if I recommend Lucifer to you, then you’re going to start with episode 1 like a normal person and then you’re going to hate me because IT’S GARBAGE!

Oh, but Amber, all pilots are rough. I can just stick with it. — No, you misunderstand me. The pilot is FANTASTIC. It’s HYSTERICAL. But only if you know how the series ends. If this is your first introduction to the characters? It’s awful! I don’t know how anyone ever watched any part of S1 (except maybe the finale because the kidnapped child trope is chef’s kiss) and thought “OMG yes please, more of this”.

And I know what you’re going to say: Parks and Recreation. BUT THIS IS NOT THE SAME THING! You can absolutely skip S1 of Parks and Rec and never, ever go back and watch it, and you would be fine. You wouldn’t miss a goddamn thing.

You absolutely have to watch S1 of Lucifer. This is not a case of ‘oh the writers haven’t figured out these characters yet’. NOPE! This is 100% who these characters are at the start of their journey together. It’s crucial to understanding and appreciating their full character arcs. But it’s the start of their journey together and if they’re not a jackass (Lucifer, Dan) or sex-crazed* (Linda, babe WHAT was that), then they’re boring (Amenadiel and YEAH I’LL SAY IT Chloe^). Yes, Maze is hot, and toothless, 7 year old Trixie can do no wrong (bless that child) — BUT YOU CAN’T STICK WITH A SHOW FOR TWO CHARACTERS WHO ARE BARELY IN IT!+

[* — I don’t want to slut-shame. I am merely too aspec to relate. Also for a show about the Devil with a queer protagonist and more than one queer supporting character, Lucifer is WAY too Het (tm), but especially in S1]

[^ — Credit where credit is due: Chloe’s backstory of being a child actress who did a nude scene in a movie when she was 19 is FASCINATING. I love it because it is soooo outside of my comfort zone. I never in a million years would’ve made a character with that backstory, and for that reason, I love it.]

[+ — Watching a show for a character who’s barely in it is exactly something I’ve done in the past. It’s probably something we’ve all done at one time or another, but it’s not a sustainable business model for production companies, okay? You can’t always rely on the gays to do the work for you!]

You know what you get out of S1 if you wait to watch it last? (with spoilers — but honestly, it makes the show better. That’s my entire point in this post!)

Shouting at your screen 8.5 minutes in when the writers telegraph the end game goal of the show

General questioning where all the blue tones came from o_O (They liked ~filters~ in S1)

Having your mind goddamn BLOWN when you learn Chloe and Dan were still actually married at the start of the show. Like, WHAT?! No, I’m sorry… WHAT?!!

The horror that you were always going to feel now mixed with hysterical laughter as Linda is WAY too horny and WAY too susceptible to Lucifer’s desire power

“Did my father send you?” — DYING! DEAD! DECEASED!

Absolutely not being able to take Amenadiel seriously even for a second. Everytime you look up at his stony expression, you fall out of your chair laughing all over again

[^Amenadiel, I'm so sorry, but this does not intimidate me. I know you too well now.]

AND THAT’S JUST THE PILOT! You keep watching and you get to see Maze meet little Trixie for the first time (adorbs <3). You get to watch Maze meet Dan for the first time and IT’S SO GODDAMN FUCKING FUNNY I AM NOT EVEN JOKING! Like, if you can make it that far into the show by watching from the beginning, then it’s still funny. But TRUST ME! It’s way better once you know they’re besties and have seen Maze sob over an N*Sync shirt. I’M CRACKING UP JUST THINKING ABOUT IT!

You also get to watch Lucifer’s struggle with mortality/vulnerability already knowing how it works (already knowing how all of his powers work). Chloe says, “Oh, I want to shoot you so bad.” And you’re shouting YES, PLEASE! DO IT! DO IT! And it’s not because you’re hate-watching the show, it’s because you know he’ll bleed when she does and LUCIFER DOESN’T KNOW THAT YET! Malcolm’s about to shoot him episodes later and you’re yelling again DO IT! DO IT!!!! Because Chloe’s no where around this time and Lucifer won’t bleed but he doesn’t know that either! (And then you groan in disappointment when Malcolm walks away without shooting — and then you cheer when two seconds later the villain of the episode shows up and shoots Lucifer instead! \0/ It’s SO satisfying!)

What I’m saying is, Season 1 is incredible… but only if you add dramatic irony to it. If you’re as clueless as the characters? Then, god help you, because I wouldn’t have made it past Linda jumping Lucifer’s bones in her office during the pilot. I just wouldn’t have.

Further caveats:

If you want to watch solely for Maze/Eve — DON’T! My girl Eve is barely in the show after her S4 introduction, and she’s dating Lucifer for the majority of that season. Like Maze/Eve are incredible and perfect and integral to Maze’s overall character arc. You get to see them get married and they have such gems like “You broke my heart” / “Really? :D That’s awesome!” and “I don’t care if you die.” / “:’) That’s the most romantic thing anyone’s ever said to me.” — LIKE BABES, THEY’RE GORGEOUS! I just wouldn’t watch 6 seasons of a show for like 1.5 seasons total of B-storyline content. I don’t think that’s really worth it but your scales may differ.

Now if you want to watch solely for Tricia Helfer…. FAIR! THAT’S FAIR! I’m pretty sure she’s what got me sucked in. Technically, that’s probably not worth it either because she’s only a regular for S2 and 3 and then guest stars in a couple of S5b episodes — but then again, IMDB confirms she was in 47 of the 93 episodes while Eve was only in 14 (FOURTEEN??? :O What do you mean?? Wasn’t she in like most of S4????? JFC no wonder it seems like she’s never around T_T) So yeah, Tricia Helfer might be worth it! She’s fabulous as both Lucifer’s mom and as Charlotte Richards! Love her!

Season 3 is both the longest and the WORST season no matter when you watch it. Unless you have some deep-seated nostalgia for Smallville, you’re going to be miserable during this season and there’s absolutely no way I can make it better for you. I am so sorry. It’s horribly paced. It has a narratively useful characterization backslide with NO TRIGGER POINT so it therefore doesn’t actually flow with the narrative after all. It has too many filler episodes which for this show, does actually ruin the pacing, and includes two miscellaneous episodes that have nothing to do with anything slotted AFTER a very massive, huge finale cliffhanger! (WHY???? @ Fox execs, PLEASE EXPLAIN!!!!!) They completely fucked up the character foil I assume they were intending because there’s no way you intended that to be a face value parallel. I refuse to accept that. And that’s before whatever the fuck their goal was with the Chloe/Pierce romance. IT WAS SO BADLY DONE IT MAKES ME RAGE!

But also we got Chloe and Linda drunkenly taking over Lucifer’s penthouse when he was out of town, and the finale scene of Lucifer shielding Chloe with his wings as they’re getting shot at which makes me FERAL, so it’s not all bad.

Speaking of Lucifer shielding Chloe with his wings, I might have an unexplored obsession with angels that is clouding my judgement of this show. :S Okay, years ago I read a Supercat AU where Kara was the devil and I was enthralled but anything else I found featuring angels just wasn’t the vibe. And then I found Lucifer and got hooked. So IDK! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ok so Ive been thinking… What about Ingo w a s/o who used to be a 911 or emergency services dispatcher. They’re rather small, sweet and soft spoken most of the time but when they need to project their voice it can nearly rival Ingo’s voice in volume and professionalism and a drill seargent’s in authority and intensity. Old habits and training die hard, though they no longer hold the position- many things remain ingrained as instinct. They also have no idea how loud or quiet they are being. Kind and compassionate, but no bullshit when the time comes down to it. Every time it happens everyone looks at them and goes. “How did that big noise come out of you you’re so tiny???” The thought to me is just very very funny and I totally see Emmet going “oh god no now there’s two of them” lmao

(Totally not me projecting because I accidentally scared a co-worker today at the retail store I work at when I called out for people to come up front…and she thought I was pissed.. O_O” oops)

Ngl I just speak softer but come from a loud family, I got lungs and it hurts even me.😭

- Your small stature compared to his tall and lanky one was precious in his eyes, you’re so much smaller than the tall subway boss and he adores it. Something about your head on his chest when you two hug makes his heart pound.

- And you’re the sweetest person he could ever ask for. You constantly bring him lunches during work just to make sure he eats! You’re awfully kind, and you get along with his friends and Emmet.

- And to top it off he finds your soft spoken nature compared to his loud one terribly precious and adorable. You speak with a more mellow indoor voice than his naturally loud speaking voice, he adore it and you.

- You don’t work at the station with him, but this particular rush hour has been rough. Depot agents and the bosses themselves are being stretched far too thin. You were just visiting to give him lunch like you always do.

- But with so many people in one place and so many people not obeying the rules, it was hard not getting involved. Ingo greeted you as usual, but it was plain to see how exhausted he was. He was trying to get someone attention as they were standing in front of the yellow line.

- But for once with the exhaustion and commotion his voice was barely loud enough. So you helped.

- “STAND BEHIND THE YELLOW LINE!”

- Your voice boomed and echoed in the station. So loud the people around you covered their ears or snapped their heads to look at you. People jump back and stand behind the yellow line.

- Ingo is staring at you in pure shock. You have never yelled, not like that, yet your voice drowned out all the sound, overpowering it and getting peoples attention.

- Emmet watched it all through the cameras. His hat covering his face to muffle his groan.

- “Oh sweet Arceus there’s two of them, what did I do to deserve this?” Emmet sinking down his swivel chair, regretting not being absorbed in the womb.

- Ingo and even a few other people are confused, concerned, and impressed. Such a loud commanding voice came from you, someone so small and soft looking.

- That loud sound came from you.

- “Are you okay my love?” You question, but Ingo can only look at you in what you can only describe as awe.

- “I never knew you could get to such volume! That’s truly impressive, bravo!”

- You simply chuckle “it’s just me, now have you had lunch yet? Or do I need to yell at you too?”

- You hand him a lunch box that he had forgotten this morning.

- “I can already tell you, you haven’t taken a lunch break, so get to it!”

- Ingo stiffens up “of course!” Both your voices not echoing in the crowd. You have restored his energy and voice.

- Walking passed the surveillance room you can faintly hear muffled but clearly upset whining. A passenger must be doing something bad again for Emmet to be sounding like that.

- Emmet, now on the floor, can only rethink his life choices. How did it end up like this? How had his life come down to this? Stuck is a verrry loud brother and now his brother’s verrrry loud partner, will he ever know peace?

Ahh ur bleak primmadona fic reignited my old DOS feelings...since im assuming boruto is a thing how IS hinata dealing with this nasty fallout? Does boruto sense the Tension but kinda dismiss it?

**rubs my hands together in a cartoony villainous way** Yessss, good, yesss come wallow in the bleak primadonna AU with me, sociallinkmax. But also, I recently felt nostalgic for DoS, too, and just had so many feelings! Unfortunately, bleak politically flavored feelings, but feelings nonetheless! Join meeeee

To preface: I still haven’t consumed any Boruto, so what I do know is limited to whatever I glean from the wiki, but even before when I was doing future fic I did try to incorporate as much Boruto canon as possible—in that, canon kids will still exist biologically, even if their familial arrangements aren’t the same (primary case in point is Sarada. Like, whether or not Sakako (my ShikakoxSasuke OC) exists, and because I don’t think DoS Sakura and DoS Sasuke would end up together naturally, Sarada can still exist because of surrogacy and maybe the repopulation program intending to revive the Sharingan? I try not to think about it too hard even though my brain was the one who came up with it)

Anyways, all that said: as with Indelible, this particular AU is not great for Hinata… I don’t mean to keep going on tangents with these questions, but it kind of relates to how Neji feels about the whole situation.

And, like, don’t get me wrong, obviously Hinata’s opinions are independent of Neji’s but the consequences she has to deal with relate to how Neji (and the Branch House of the Hyuuga in general) react to Shikako 1) doing something reminiscent of what happened to Hizashi but also 2) leaving her career as a shinobi behind to become an actress.

Because on the one hand, probably Neji doesn’t feel great about Shikako’s extra judicial execution of foreign prisoners sent to prevent war—even though it’s not an exact one-to-one situation of what happened with his father, and, like, maybe even part of him approves of it because if his uncle had gotten revenge when HIS twin brother was killed for political reasons then at least Neji would have known he cared WAY sooner than the half-assed “let’s train now that you’ve proven yourself a genius” bullshit.

But on the other hand, except for TenTen—who I imagine, as his teammate, has known about the Caged Bird Seal since they were genin and has probably made several attempts to do something about it—the only Seal Master Konoha has is Shikako. So the Branch House’s current hope of removing the seal would be her. So, like… O_O … not great that she seems to have left it all behind her. And who knows when there will be a Seal Master again? They appear MAYBE once or twice in a generation. And even with the Nara clan doing sealing seminars, true mastery involves a level of innovation and ingenuity that isn’t common. (This also is after Danzo has been dealt with, which means that ROOT has been dealt with, which probably means that Shikako would have had to deactivate/remove the ROOT seals on all of those agents, so by this point the implication is that she could do it, the only thing stopping her is Hyuuga clan autonomy/laws)

All of this is assuming that Neji is alive in DoS future fic—which I think he is, because Shikako has made a lot of changes at this point to make everyone stronger, but also she’s been going through a rough patch in which a lot of her actions have taken a turn for the worse (ie an Orochimaru-traumatized Ino and one-arm-down-Shikamaru and Hot Springs/Aoba and War with Cloud) so she could use a win. But even if he isn’t, as far as I can tell from the wiki, even though Boruto and Himawari are both Hyuuga clan members (while having the Uzumaki name?) and seem to have a good relationship with their grandfather, there is ZERO talk about Neji or even the Branch House in general or, like, the whole… CAGED BIRD SEAL WHICH IS PRETTY IMPORTANT. (And, again, I haven’t seen Boruto, so maybe I’m very wrong about this. In which case, my bad.)

A generous reading would be that it was dealt with before the events of Boruto… but a petty/bleak interpretation would be that… of course it’s not going to show up in Boruto: he’s part of the Main House. And—if we’re getting real political about it—while Hinata isn’t clan heiress, she also doesn’t have the seal. And while Hanabi IS clan heiress, she doesn’t have any kids. So theoretically, the line of succession for Hyuuga clan leadership goes: Hiashi -> Hanabi -> either Boruto or Himawari, depending on how much of an “official clan” the Uzumaki are.

What I’m saying is… the ANY clans could poach the Branch House out from under the Main House by either implying or actually offering to remove the Caged Bird Seal if they were to go through with the secession.

All of that to say: Hinata is on Naruto’s side, of course, and not just by default—she also isn’t fond of killing in general and the situation, again, is weirdly reminiscent of the Cloud Incident--which means Hinata’s friendships are not doing so hot considering the queen bee nature/social capital that is the one-two punch of Ino and Shikako. Obviously Shikako is out being Kako Heijo, so it’s not like she’s doing anything to Hinata’s social situation, but considering the whole divide/secret civil war is Shikako vs Naruto it’s pretty obvious that whoever internally sides with Shikako is not going to be particularly fond of Konoha's First Lady. And Ino doesn’t even have to be active—like with Indelible, if she just ignores Hinata’s existence except for coldly professional interactions, a lot of others are going to follow, kunoichi especially.

Which would orient Hinata more towards socializing with her family. But, again, the whole Branch House and Caged Bird Seal situation. Because there’s an additional… hm, how do I phrase this... so, this isn’t intentional on Naruto’s part, but this does go back into the problem of him as the Hokage not learning/respecting clan laws but also, seemingly hypocritically, favoring his own personal interests. I’m getting real convoluted, but from the outside (by which I mean, Ino-and-Chouji-being-coldly-furious POVs) it looks like Naruto did not respect that the councilors from Sand were meant to be a wergild type thing to the Nara clan as an apology for Shikamaru’s assassination. So what should have been an internal clan matter—of the Nara clan meting out vengeance on behalf of their lost head/heir—became a village wide thing when Naruto didn’t turn the prisoners over to the Nara clan.

So that’s not great, but unfortunately it gets worse. (Lolololol, come wallow with me! :D)

BECAUSE it would be one thing if this were just a general movement towards decreasing clan autonomy in exchange for a more uniform treatment across the village. Which, I’ll admit, is needed (the clan system is literally nepotism or, at the very least, contributes to it. Like. Shikako literally offered to introduce Sakura to her aunt who worked in the hospital. She even admitted that was the route she would have taken if she hadn’t been put on a viable genin team. The fact that Sakura succeeded without that is a credit to her own merits, of course, but the hook up was still available to her)

BUT the fact that members of the Hyuuga Branch House still have a slavery/torture seal on them (presumably, if we’re being petty/bleak, which we are) and THAT clan autonomy is seemingly protected by Naruto… is not great. So, again, from an outside/cynical POV, it looks like Naruto is favoring the Hyuuga clan getting to keep their (fucked up) traditions but withheld the Nara clan’s right to the apology offering of the councilors from Sand.

Obviously, I’m not saying Naruto intended for this to happen—but from a cynical outsider’s POV it looks like he denied the clan rights and legitimate revenge of his teammate who happens to be:

1) the only person who can undo the Caged Bird Seal, which would radically decrease his wife/children’s position in the clan with Konoha’s major blood limit (there might be a Sharingan revival program happening, but that’ll take generations before its viable if at all)

2) a more qualified alternative for Hokage

So it could be misconstrued as Naruto tricking Shikako into committing a—pretty egregious—crime in order to keep power for himself/his family.

… I think I got extremely off track from your questions which… uh…

I guess it depends how much of a secret Neji (and the Branch House as a whole) are keeping their “will secede from Konoha with the ANY clans as soon as this fucking seal is off our forehead” plan. Because. Well. It doesn’t look good that there isn’t much mention of the Branch House in Boruto. And how fucking galling it must be to see Hiashi being a doting grandfather with Boruto and Himawari when there are Branch House members their age (or younger! I think Neji was younger than Himawari when the Main House put the seal on him?) with the Caged Bird Seal.

Like, if it’s taken this long to address it (and also, again, from a pessimist’s POV it looks like Hinata’s husband pseudo-banished their one hope) Neji may just assume neither Hinata nor Hanabi can be trusted to follow through on abolishing the seal, much less taking steps to remove the ones that already exist. But, as the in-law of the Hokage, he can’t exactly be seen conspiring with the other side of the cold civil war, which probably leads to his frustration being pointed at the Main House (which it should.) So… it’s not great for Hinata on the family side either.

As for Boruto… I don’t think he would catch all of it. Similar to Shikadai, he does feel the vibes from his parents that they’re uneasy around the ANY clans and vice versa. And also similar to Shikadai he’s kind of a double prince (son of Hokage and in direct line/Main Family of the Hyuuga clan, again, the biggest blood limit of Konoha) but it’s a lot easier for him; he gets more privileges and less responsibility. (Versus Shikadai’s double prince situation being the opposite where he HAS to learn/be ready to be the Nara clan heir—either Shikaku who really ought to be enjoying his retirement by now, or Kino who actually wants to be Kasuga’s heir, are the ones running the clan currently, but they are basically waiting for Shikadai to be old enough. Also, there are still no other options but him for Kazekage after Kankurou... and there’s the whole Magnetic Release thing. He’s a stressed lad.)

Weirdly enough, I like the idea that Boruto figures out a lot of what’s going on because he pays so much attention to Shikadai. Like… there might be a one-sided rivalry since Shikadai is probably Top Student in their class. He, like Shikako, is one of the rare Nara who is just always motivated and he has the intelligence, power, skill, and work ethic to back it up. And from what I’ve gleaned of Boruto’s character, while he is also intelligent, powerful, and skilled, he’s more about instant gratification/the easy way out. It’s a more balanced rivalry than what canon Naruto and Sasuke had going on, that’s for sure, but because they’re on different genin teams (and the deliciously bleak politics in this AU) it doesn’t lend itself into friendship as easily.

The vibe is, if Boruto were to ever approach his generation of Ino-Shika-Chou, it would go like thus:

1) Chouchou overtly glaring at/being hostile to Boruto because her dad, who likes basically everyone and is super chill, very clearly goes stony faced whenever the Hokage comes up. As if he is getting ready to protect people from the Hokage at all times. She may not know why, but she feels it for sure, and I think it’s something that she would subconsciously (or just straight up consciously) mimic with Boruto. Also, depending on how far along the ANY clans are in actually going through with their secession, of her generation she would be the one who has the most idea of it. In the sense that as clan heiress (or third in line if Chouza is still acting as clan head and so Chouji is still clan heir) she knows there’s a lot of large scale construction happening on Akimichi property outside the village. Definitely bigger than all three clan compounds combined, maybe almost rivaling one of the smaller hidden villages?

2) Inojin does not meet his eyes. I wouldn’t say Inojin is scared of Boruto, but what he gleaned from his parents is that the Hokage did something that causes them to choose their words carefully. That he did something that led to them being deprived of someone they love. And considering who his dad is… while it’s not exactly classic bedtime story material, I think there would have been a straightforward yet gently phrased explanation of what Sai went through as a child. Which wouldn’t exactly instill Inojin with faith in the Hokage—a single figure with that much political power is not to be trusted--and then, also, the ROOT seal to Caged Bird Seal comparison not looking great for Boruto either considering his confusing but privileged status in the Hyuuga Main House. Inojin understandably is nervous around Boruto who seems to have access to so much social and/or political power but isn’t mindful of it.

3) Shikadai is TOO BUSY AND STRESSED (and, in a way, grieving both of his parents—the father he never met who his existence seems to remind everyone of constantly, and his mother who he has only ever known post heartbreak of losing a brother, a husband, and her love for her home). He does not have time to care about what Boruto is doing unless it is an immediate threat.

All of which is to say, Boruto does notice some kind of tension but mostly because he’s trying to get Shikadai to notice him. And also because Chouchou hates his guts for seemingly no reason, lol.

Hm… I know I’ve said that Sakako doesn’t exist in this, but I really feel like this AU could benefit from a teen Branch House Hyuuga—I don’t want them to be Neji’s kid, necessarily, just an “average” Branch House Hyuuga teen will do—mostly because it would highlight some of the above mentioned issues. And it would also, on the one hand, be funny if the only thing Shikadai was a normal kid about was having a crush on an attractive older teen (which infuriates Boruto, lol.) But it would be another clue for Boruto to catch onto something weird happening if Chouchou and Inojin also have no problems with that teen, in that the ANY clans don’t have a problem with the ENTIRE Hyuuga clan (just the Main House, aka the part that Naruto is directly connected to)

… and that concludes my rambling villainous monologue that only vaguely answers your questions. :D

WIP Wednesday

I was tagged by @imbiowaresbitch, and I'm tagging @rollerskatinglizard @jemariel @remmyme @winchester-reload and @ltleflrt

this is an excerpt from my (hopefully) upcoming story Delicate Objects, which i've been working on for the last two years. o_O i am this close to finishing it and i hope to have it ready for y'all within the next few weeks, but don't anybody hold me to that lol. enjoy these two being lovesick idiots together XD

Seeming satisfied now that Castiel is eating, Dean nabs the remaining piece of toast and takes a loud, crunching bite. The soft pleasured sound he makes has Castiel forcing his focus back onto his own slice of toast, thinking over the day and how it is still, somehow, only a handful of hours since he’s been back on Earth awake and walking. How he and Dean have had their share of conversation and silence today, but Castiel’s still not sure where they stand.

Castiel watches Dean eat his slice of sweet escape with his eyes blissfully closed, and smiles faintly himself. A smudge of cinnamon streaks across the other man’s cheek, the tail of a shooting star, and Castiel wants to lay his fingertips there alongside it, sweep it up as he once swept up the debris of colliding nebulae.

“I’m in love with you,” he blurts out, suddenly needing Dean to understand his meaning explicitly. Just in case it had been misconstrued. Just in case Dean still didn’t —

Dean goes very still, a prey animal sensing mortal peril. He swallows his mouthful of toast and looks up at Castiel, a cool sort of distance in his gaze. “Yeah, you made that pretty clear,” he says, gruff. Castiel’s insides snap like a rubber band against a wrist.

Dean winces and clears his throat, shifting on his chair. “Uh,” he says, putting his toast back on the plate and dropping his hands to his thighs. “Sorry. What I mean is —”

Suddenly unsure he wants to know what Dean means, Castiel says, “Don’t —”

“Cas, look, I —”

“I had a nightmare,” Castiel says over him, afraid of whatever is swimming behind Dean’s eyes. Dean flinches like Castiel had moved to strike him.

“You were — I was —” Castiel finds he can’t describe the dream at all, now, details dissolving into the echo of the feelings, spare impressions in clay. He hitches in a breath, and another, and feels the shift in the air vibrating between them when a tear drips from Castiel’s chin and splashes on the back of his hand. “No, hey,” Dean says in a voice that could, though it seems suddenly far, far away, easily lay even the most harrowed soul to rest. “Hey. Whatever it was, Cas, it wasn’t real.”

Dean touches the back of Castiel’s wrist with featherlight fingertips. “This is real,” he murmurs. He wraps his fingers around the heel of Castiel’s palm, pulling Castiel’s hand to his chest and laying it over his heart. Holding him there, as if Castiel is the one who might disappear at any moment.

Castiel’s own heart threatens to bruise against the inside of his ribs. This isn’t — it isn’t how they do things, this isn’t how they touch —

“I’m real.” Dean’s voice is sandpaper-rough. “And I’m — I’m right here. Okay?” His face is open, unwavering, and it freezes Castiel’s lungs and turns his insides upside-down. “Whatever comes next, I’m right here.”

“Okay,” Castiel finally answers, his fingers curling into Dean’s t-shirt, just a little, as though he could simply hold Dean’s actual heartbeat cupped in his hand. “Okay.”

As for your question ahhhHHHH I KNOWWW I've been in this fandom for literally a third of my life so far...I say this to everyone but onceler fandom is like my culture now. 🥲 That's how it feels. You are right, there were a lot of valuable experiences and there has been a lot of history.

I see people dig up old posts and reblog them and sometimes I think "they don't know that that piece of art was drawn by my friend for my other friend to cheer them up when they were going through a rough time" or "they don't know that this piece of art led to the falling out of a friend group" or "they don't know that I literally watched my friend draw the sketch for this piece of art when I visited them irl many years ago and it was one of the most happiest times of my life that I can't get back anymore because we drifted apart from each other"

Like..! :,) Many pieces of our lives are attached to this fandom so I just hope that our old stuff gets treated with respect. I don't watch YouTube analyses of the fandom anymore because they just talk about oncest and maybe mention the AUs and they don't know that most of the fandom was actually about our friendships with each other.

So that's how it feels to have been in the fandom for a decade! You become familiar with certain patterns too so I see certain things happening over and over again as the fandom revives itself over and over, but with every revival there's something new too because of the general shifts in internet culture haha. These past few years I've preferred to stay a bit removed from it all for my own mental health and just concentrate on my Audrey oc and rping with my friends 🥰

I am now very much interested in this au O_O

I'm gonna assume you're referring to the CTYH swap au comic +doodles I've made (designs- especially the knights, belong to @/afrothunderxx96 !)

I'll admit, I've been rotating this au around my head for awhile because of the several possibilities. One being Blixer being a Guardian in a garden-esque temple with lots if plants and overgrowth, a nod to his minions who were originally just flowers in the garden back when it still had its native occupants but due to migration, the artifact gave life to the flowers and they became sole worshippers who tend the temple.

When Blixer was born, he was obviously clueless. But soon became the out going guardian who parties with the garden, though he does have his personal struggles such as his own identity and self worth. He associates all of his worth with the artifact due to him being connected to it, convinced that the reason the garden loves him is because he's just an extension of the artifact.

Lycan, also a blue flower but much more of a leader and smarter compared to the rest, attempts to convince Blixer that he is worthy for being him but Blixer has a hard time believing it.

I imagine Corrupted Cube here is someone who grew up in rough conditions and had to build herself up by being strong and scary, intimidating anyone who comes near her because it's a survival mechanism. Due to her entire childhood revolving around it, she genuinely has a hard time reacting to sheer kindness in a proper manner. She assumes it's a trap qnd she lashes out. In short, being nice to her is something she's not used to.

For the Knights, there's a lot to unpack but a majority in means of design and visual characterizations are already done by Afro in her tumblr blog. She made concepts and even their Corrupted TIO form which made me kick my feet and giggle!!!! I love the design so much.

I imagine that the four knights gain the artifact but the artifact ended up remaining the four due to them combining their powers together to access its theorized abilities, leading to the artifact chaining up the four and thus creating the Unnamed One. (Oooh boss battle)

I'm unsure exactly how Cuda, Macabre, The Grey Twins, and etc (rest of the ctyh cast) would be in this AU. Not sure if I wanna pitch in onto that, really, I'd like to wait and see!

can I ask who that strongest and most important girl is and also about what makes that episode so horrible and infuriating… I’m curious I like hearing you talk abt ranma O_o

(i'm going to use pronouns/genders as they're used in the show for clarity so i apologize if this sounds rough) her name is tsubasa, she met ukyo (girl who spent most of her formative years dressed as a boy, and another girl that ranma's dad promised ranma's hand in marriage to when ranma was too young to understand what was even happening) when they were young and has been in love with her ever since. eventually, ukyo gets sick of receiving love letters from tsubasa so she sends tsubasa a letter saying "i'm in love with someone else, drop it already", with a picture of girltype ranma (because tsubasa thinks ukyo is a boy, so the person that ukyo is in love with should be a girl). well tsubasa shows up and takes ranma (ranma spends most of this episode as a girl, the episode just starts out with him in his girlform without explanation. and he only changes to his boyform for a specific reason which ill get to. based. anyways) as a rival for ukyo's affections instead of taking the hint that ukyo is just not interested.

in an attempt to get tsubasa to finally drop it, akane (she's also here) tells tsubasa that ukyo is a GIRL, not a boy like tsubasa supposedly originally thought, but tsubasa proudly announces that she ONLY likes girls and she has in fact known all along that ukyo is a girl and just doesn't care. this is of course based on tsubasa's part but she is met with disgust by especially akane. ranma is preoccupied because tsubasa called him ugly.

tsubasa later falls in love with ranma (still girltype) in a heart to heart where ranma feels bad about winning ukyo's affection over tsubasa, especially considering he doesn't even LIKE ukyo, because no matter how annoying someone is if they start crying ranma will start to feel bad for them. anyways she says she never actually thought he was ugly she was just jealous that ukyo liked ranma better. ranma is so kind to her that she falls in love with him.

the second half of the episode is essentially them trying to make tsubasa straight, this is where it gets really bad. akane meets her for lunch and tries to tell her that she should try and find a good boyfriend instead of chasing after ranma and ukyo, but tsubasa dismisses her and says that she hates boys and isn't interested in anyone else. then, ranma agrees to meet tsubasa for a date. he shows up though as a BOY, which obviously makes tsubasa angry, and when akane and ukyo approach him about what he's doing he says he was "trying to get her back on the straight and narrow."

THEEEN then through a series of events tsubasa gets revealed to actually be a BOY who crossdresses. ukyo knew this the whole time and thought the other two already knew. akane and ranma are deeply disgusted, calling him a creep and a pervert and a freak. akane questions if he's gay (this episode is literally the most direct they've been about sexuality, also that question makes no damn fucking sense), and he proudly says that nope, he's as straight as they come, he just likes to dress up as a girl. ranma says thats really weird and gross and tsubasa tells him that he and ranma are kind of exactly the same actually, which ranma angrily dismisses (and the way this discussion is framed the audience is supposed to agree that ranma is somehow different).

now tbf i havent WATCHED every episode, there's a lot i havent seen/read yet, but this is the most direct they've been about .. all of this. offhanded comments are BAD but i can stomach it fine, but literally the whole plot of this episode is "this girl is a lesbian, this is disgusting and we need to fix it" to "this [girl] is [trans], this is disgusting and we need to shun [her]." part of my annoyance with it also is that ranma LITERALLY spent the first half of the episode AS A GIRL, FOR NO REASON, TO COMPETE IN A CONTEST WITH TSUBASA OVER WHO COULD SELL THE MOST OKONOMIYAKI [TO SPECIFICALLY GUYS] BASED ON LOOKS ALONE? and this was treated as a silly gag as usual (still bad framing obviously but to be expected), but when tsubasa did it it was freakish and perverted. akane has MANY romantic scenes with ranma while he's a girl, but tsubasa blatantly saying "i only like girls" was treated as an issue that needed to be fixed.

idk it might sound silly to hear me be so upset about this ep like what did i expect really, but this is the most on the nose they've ever been . and it just made me sad and was hard to watch . worst part is, its still a trans allegory and none of this is unrealistic. i cant even say the characters wouldnt do or say that. the episode's deep hypocrisy is so obvious that its kind of insane that the mangaka didn't even recognize it. like of course akane would be extra disturbed by a girl who likes girls due specifically to the fact that she's afraid of her own obvious bisexuality, and of course ranma would be extra disturbed by a boy who shamelessly enjoys telling people he's a girl due specifically to the fact that ranma is coming around to doing that as well himself and its frightening because it's supposed to be wrong.

the reason i like ranma 1/2 is because i LIKE the realness of it. even though the premise is so bizarre, it does actually feel like how it would go if a kid in the 1980s was slowly realizing they were bigender due to a freak incident that forced them to confront their gender identity in a way they never would have otherwise. because of the perspective of the author, this is never fully going to come to pass, which makes me sad but is to be expected. i feel like my expectations are generally where they should be, even though i complain about it a lot its not totally because i EXPECTED better. most of it is bad. not even just from a "this is transphobic" perspective but just from a narrative perspective, pretty much nothing ever changes, none of the characters really learn anything (except ranma sort of), most of the time the story is just chasing its own tail. but there's something special about it and something really important to me that i have a hard time putting into words. idk idk i need to get them out of there. does this all make any sense at all
