oh 1000% MJ is the barista and Peter is the hopeless college student who walks thirty minutes to work at her coffee shop while he’s working up the nerve to ask her out.

MJ gets tired of waiting for him to ask and just slips him her number on a napkin with a very detailed doodle that says call me dumbass

2. Highschool/College AU: Who is the straight-A student, and who’s the back-row slacker?

I think it’s canon that both of them are straight-A students?? but since Peter apparently does all his spidey stuff in school (seriously: how did nobody notice him making webbing), maybe he ends up slacking ygm?? like he falls behind because he’s so busy being Spiderman but obviously MJ doesn’t know this (she does she’s just seeing how far he’ll take this) so she asks him what’s going on (she’s captain. she needs to know what’s going on with her team) and Peter, to save face (cover??) is like ohh haha i just,,,don’t care about school anymore?? you know how it is. have to be cool and shit

I feel like MJ plays up the rivalry because she’s secretly a little shit and Peter is really worried because he got they were building towards something!! and now Michelle is acting like she hates him!! he just thinks she’s very pretty 🥺

oh 100% Peter is the one excited to meet his soulmate while Michelle is rebelling against the idea that she’s destined to be with someone. Fuck that noise, she’ll fall in love because she wants to, not because of some stupid name tattooed on her name since the dawn of time

i mean this one is sort of hard because canonically they’re in like, highschool, so i haven’t really thought of this but maybe Michelle as a single parent?? She’s got a lot of groceries and it’s a slow day for crime, and it’s raining so bad that Peter can barely see anyway so he’s on the ground instead of buildings -- and he sees Michelle struggling to carry her groceries and push her pram so he offers to help.

She pepper-sprays him before he can get in a word edgewise, but after he’s sufficiently verified his identity (it involves a lot of webbing before she trusts that it’s not some sort of illusion), she agrees to let him walk her to her apartment a couple of blocks away.

This just keeps happening.

7. Doctor AU: Which one is the long-suffering doctor? Which one is the patient?

Michelle is doing her residency in a hospital in Queens. Spiderman protects Queens. It is inevitable that they meet.

AW HECK YEAH HERE WE GO

Why I like them-

Because she’s adorable!! And also is just a really well-written character! She loves the city and wants to help people but she’s also Ten Years Old and gets frustrated when she doesn’t get to live her life! Also I relate to her a lot lol... so many people in the show are absolutely neurodivergent, and the whole show is basically just “a superhero whose gimmick is infodumping about her hyperfixation on words”

Why I don’t-

I’ll be honest I don’t think there’s a single thing about Becky I dislike. I mean sure she has times where she’s selfish or shortsighted but these all make for great character moments and are completely understandable for a kid in her position.

Favorite episode (scene if movie)-

Oh boy this is hard lol... I’m always a sucker for the scene in rise of miss power right after she drops sally back off at home 🥺 that legit made me cry. The subtle validation her mom gave to Becky by comparing her to Wordgirl, even if she didn’t know exactly what she was doing... it’s just so sweet. And don’t even get me STARTED on bunny lovers!! Outside of specials though, I think my favorite Becky episode is “the straw that broke Two-Brains’ back”! We really get to see her frustration about always being relied upon. Also we know from kid math’s episode that she usually just pretends to lose in the first half of most episodes to build tension, but I genuinely believe she was trying the best she could to stop Two-Brains cause she was just so angry!

Favorite season/movie-

It’s such an episodic show, I don’t think there’s one season that can be my favorite. I will say that I think they absolutely perfected her personality a few seasons in.

Favorite line-

TOO MANY MAN! But I have to say I’m partial to “YOU’RE about to be incarcerated :D!”

Favorite outfit-

Might seem a little basic, but I honestly really just like the Wordgirl outfit! A lot of the other ones she wears are just goofy lol. But the wg color scheme is super nice and it being a simple one-piece is just really cute ngl. Also I love the headcanon (supported by ROMP) that Huggy made it and that’s adorable.

OTP-

Oh no I can’t choose! I have been focusing a lot on Becktoria lately, but Vibecky has been something I latched onto in like episode 5. But also I just,, really like Scecky for some reason? Like their whole dynamic is super interesting. She had a crush on him when his entire goal was to basically ruin her career, and she kinda lost it right before he learned her secret and gave that up. (And I headcanon thats when he gets a crush on her) so them getting together any time after that is really sweet to me

Brotp-

Oh her and TJ for sure!! They have the perfect sibling interaction and bicker a lot but it’s so obvious that they do really care about each other! Oh but also her and Bob.. monkey dad. How can you not love that. But ALSO Narrator! His inclusion on its own is just super hilarious but their interactions are adorable! But ALSO ALSO her and BUTCHER’S FRIENDSHIP IS SUPER UNDERRATED!! I really like that he usually comes up when she’s having family issues and is always super kind and understanding when she vents to him about them!

Headcanon-

I think she’s Nonbinary and Bi! But aside from lgbt hcs, I think she started being a hero when she was around 8 years old. And also I think she was SUPER excited when she found out she had a younger brother! She absolutely was the one who taught TJ to read and speak (idk how good at it she was she was still very very young and probably had a short temper lol) I also think she has like a group at school where mostly kids with disorders like dyslexia can come to her so she can either help or read to them. Also On more of a serious note, I feel like she had a point where she was really suspicious about her birth parents. Of course the Botsfords are her real family, but she would absolutely feel a little insecure about not knowing how much her bio family cared about her. The fact that they let a baby wander off on its own long enough to get off the planet is. Not that good a sign.

Unpopular Opinion-

There needs to be way more content of her, Scoops, and Violet just hanging out! I’m a sucker for friend group shenanigans and I adore their little interactions. High five sandwich is like one of the best episodes just cause they goof around

A wish-

That we get a reboot someday 😔 I know it’s unnecessary and the show ran for a really long time but I need more daughter. But in universe, a way for Steven to directly communicate with her while not being affected by Squeaky! She misses him so much and deserves more time with him...

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen-

Any scenario of her losing touch with the villains or her friends as she gets older makes me genuinely distressed. They belong together.

YEAHHHHHH i was asleep but i am AWAKE NOW. excited for this one!!!

favorite thing about them: MAN WHERE DO I START marik is literally like. my second favorite ygo character (behind rex raptor) there is a Lot i love about him. i have liked him for a Very Long Time fgdgfg. i think my favorite thing with him is the way the narrative sets him up as this very mysterious malevolent force and then you meet him Fully and he's. a traumatized 16 year old in that lilac crop top hoodie who loves motorcycles. god tier character. he just some of my favorite little character details of the ygo dm cast.

least favorite thing about them: hmmm i cant think of anything off the top of my head? i just like him. i know some people hate his dub voice but i love it honestly <3 let the anime prettyboy sound screechy and weird, it's FUNNY. IT'S GOOD.

favorite line: this one is always so hard for me because i can never remember show lines off the top of my head but everything that comes out of his mouth in the ps2 game capsule monster coliseum is, endlessly funny to me if you havent heard it. again, i love marik's dub voice so goddamn much.

Haha, this has already made its way into one of my ficlets. I am also writing love languages into my next chapter of Better Be Mine. I can’t let it go!! I don’t actually care about them as tool for my irl relationship but it’s so easily identifiable for Brio. So my headcanons here...

Rio’s love languages:

Rio prefers to receive love through Quality Time.

Rio shows love through Physical Touch.

Beth’s love languages:

Beth prefers to receive love through Words of Affirmation.

Beth shows love through Acts of Service

49. Do they have differing political opinions?

Lol, @sothischickshe I can’t believe you tagged me in this!!!! Stop reading into the underlying vibes of Beth/Rio conversations in my fics!

So the short version of my response is: yes.

Now the absurdly long response:

I think about Rio & Beth a lot. I think about them talking about politicized issues quite a bit and imagine them in conversation with each other, teasing their beliefs apart. I like picturing these conversations instigated by hard parenting moments, things in the news, and things that come up as they finally start saying more words to each other. I think Rio could also just directly ask Beth about her political beliefs (I can’t necessarily picture the reverse yet).

I think Beth is definitely more conservative than Rio -- and that’s an assumption I make because Rio’s a Latinx guy who probably came up with lack of access to wealth, and Beth as a white woman in the suburbs who formerly perceived herself/her family as wealthy.

Beth’s characterization is complicated -- sometimes it really leans into Karen stereotypes/white woman privilege (lol, I cannot believe they literally had her show up at Gil’s workplace. I CRINGE!) and other times her beliefs and actions positively surprise me. Personally, in my fic writing, I love leaning into an idea that Beth grew up more working class/experienced neglect from her parents. I don’t want to romanticize these experiences but trauma around financial insecurity & complicated family relationships personally resonates with me. Ugh, I love writing about it, and it’s something that I read in her childhood that I like to lean into. That flashback in Season 2 really humanized Beth for me and it really made me love her.

Okay, that was a major digression about class, but her life experience must lend itself to her political beliefs. She married into a wealthier family -- a family that owned it’s own business, was financially stable and just... a family perpetuating all the harmful effects of white heterosexuality and problematic gendered labor. And she conformed to it! Beth diminished herself to make herself fit there, to find safety and stability, to feel worth. So, I think her politics as an adult are also “safe” and probably echo the popular moderate trends in normative, toxic parent groups. Honestly, irl as a queer WOC who is anti-capitalist and been forced to be political for my own self-preservation and preservation of folks I love, I would not seek out PTA Beth’s friendship for multiple reasons, but I still have such a soft spot for Beth as a character?

That being said, Beth in the context of Annie & Ruby is obviously a different Beth. She loosens up in these spaces, she speaks her mind much more freely and in these scenes she comes as a normal, relatable human and she’s funny and prim and awkward. I think she comes across as somewhat liberal but not particularly educated on the issues/progressive (as is the way most characters are characterized on network TV). In this vein, she throws around a lot of white privilege and because some of it has gone un-interrogated in the context of the show... I’m not sure how intentional these vibes are or if it’s just par the course of it being white-owned network TV. Obviously characters are allowed to make mistakes and do shitty things, but I wish there was more on-screen acknowledgement of race in the show, and more intentional naming of things. In regards to Ruby + Beth in particular, I feel like an American white woman can’t have a life-long/multi-decade friendship with a Black woman and not be intentional about acknowledging racism/the specific misogynoir that Black women face. But the show hasn’t really acknowledged this aspect of Ruby + Beth’s friendship...

*stares at the camera like I’m on The Office*

It would be such a rich opportunity to discuss the challenges of interracial friendship if done well. Also, what an opportunity to delve into what it’s like to maintain friendships across the years (um, it’s hard!!! Even with people you love so much! Tell us more about Beth & Ruby’s ups and downs!). Beth and Ruby care about each other so much. When they and Annie get friendship beats -- I cry! Just make it make more sense! If the show filled in these blanks, it would be so great. Beth is obviously awakening~ definitely so in regards to her gender and her power and it could shift her political opinions? The show definitely poked a little fun at her crime “wokeness” by having her push back on cultural appropriation with those other PTA parents. Just by the exposure of her own relationships, Beth has experience with the lack of American safety net, our terrible, impoverishing health-care system, and inaccessibility of higher education.

So, on one hand the show tries to do a thing where they equalize and don’t name race in the context of the three leads, “they’re three women”, but then they play on racial tropes with Beth and Rio’s relationship... I would like for their interracial relationship to be more overtly discussed/acknowledged outside of Rio’s somewhat performative call outs of Beth’s white lady fragility.

So anyway -- Rio’s politics. We don’t know a ton about Rio so we don’t have too much textual evidence to go off of. But, we do know that Rio picks at Beth’s facade of white women fragility all the time -- sometimes with more hostility and other times simply teasing. When I write him, I give him my own experiences of having to become well-versed discussing politicized issues by the default of growing up experiencing racism and xenophobia. Rio, like any Mexican-reading man, has probably been told to “go back to his country” throughout his life -- and I can’t imagine it not politicizing him... Though, conservative Latinx exist and constantly shock me with their assimilationist audacity. *stares at the camera like I’m on the office again* But, idk, it’s something about their characterization of him of being so worldly~~ I imagine him being informed and up-to-date on the American news. I want him throwing around his power and $$$ by donating to local, progressive candidates of color. But, this is all projection~ :-)

Ha, I feel like this was too critical of my forever otp (and on ship day to boot)!! And of Beth. The show has a habit of putting Beth through the physical and psychological wringer, and what I want instead is for our baby to be out of harm’s way, financially stable, divorced and independent, and also forced to interrogate the more harmful ways she deploys her whiteness. Lol, no one would watch my show. I know.

I love Beth & Rio. They thrill me. And like many others in the fandom, I often want to remove them from the GG canon and make them have harder/real/necessary conversations -- and generally converse about anything/everything because they barely do that on screen. I love the drama of their scenes, but my happy place is skipping a year ahead and building headcanons about what they could look like in actual relationship with each other... and one of these daydreams is Rio pushing Beth on her politics. I’m in an interracial relationship with a white woman myself -- and one of the things I love is endlessly discussing political issues and processing and growing together, and I like transplanting that to Brio in my fic perhaps too much, and it makes them OOC in my writing at times.

Okay!!! This got long again. Thanks for tangling with this if you’ve gotten this far. There were a lot of assertions up there and I’m happy to unpack something further (but, thats at your own risk y’know. Clearly I don’t know when to stop when it comes to writing these ridiculously long posts).

Why I like them:

what the fuck is there not to like about them, lets be honest. their personality is unique when compared to other bvs. i lowkey always hoped id get to see a bv that would be more bold, angry, just more sharp towards the world. most of bvs that ive seen before joining the creating part of the fandom were soft shy kids that didnt want to hurt anybody. its valid to characterize bc like that, but it was everywhere. lost was like the polaris in the entirety of the fandom. learning about them was refreshing, comforting, it felt and still feels safe to consider and think about them. they feel real, i feel like i could meet them on the street in a playground and become friends with them. you made them so real and important to me. ive said this plenty in the server, but theyve helped me through a lot of hard times. i was too sad or anxious or scared to come out of bed? i thought about them interacting with broken and i felt better. i was in a lot of pain? thinking about them helped distracting me and getting me through a lot of it. im so so thankful for their existence and even more so for your willingness to interact, rp and vibe with me. i love lost so much.

Why I don’t:

their clinginess sometimes worries me. they are valid in it, but clingy people generally make me Slightly uncomfy bc i have times where id rather not be touched and i have trouble speaking up because i dont wanna offend or hurt. broken is the same and i fear the day they will have to disappoint lost by turning away a hug or a cuddle session. the mixture of natural understandable clinginess and anger can result in a sort of manipulation. unintentional, but still manipulation

Favorite episode (scene if movie):

,,,ill be mildly self-indulgent and say that the scene where them and broken adopted each other, overlaying with the morning after, is perhaps my favorite thing ever. BUT!! i liked the scene with them shunning ghost out of oros hut. it established their thoughts and determination to Keep things important to them away from people that had hurt them.

Favorite season/movie:

the ENTIRE FUCKIN FIC THATS ABOUT THEM GETTIN FROM THE ANCIENT BASIN TO ORO. bro ive checked ao3 like every morning when the second chapter was still in the wip bin, i just couldnt wait for it kgjslkgjsldkk the amount of details to the struggles and the size of torment expressed through your words was so so real and i couldnt get enough of it. im incredibly thankful for that fic and for all the feelings it stirred up in me wee heart

this is an incredibly unlikely scenario to happen cuz i know you dont like thinkin about the ultimate end of people and characters, but my biggest fear is that one day they will come back from a hunt or a visit to a cold body in their dads bed, with eyes closed to never open again, not giving them the chance to even say goodbye.

i feel a lot of things about white. quick note: we are referring to the game protag who is touko/hilda but we are so used to calling her white so lol

How I feel about this character: so much??? i love her ‘dont fuck with me’ design eventho its just short jorts but man those jorts get me. i LOVE writing her coz shes so fun and unhinged and it just. fits you know when i write her? plus thanks to pokemas its canon shes just as fiesty. i just made mine fiesty but with curse words lol

All the people I ship romantically with this character: N lol im a sucker for enemies to lovers and i cannot believe pokemon really gave us that. i also love her with cheren because of the childhood friends trope AND serious boy wild girl trope. also her with tht one ace trainer whos afraid of heights and holds her hand during their ride in the ferris wheel. thats just cute for my sucker heart.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: cheren and bianca! god ive never felt this much for an ot3 but i really do. i LOVE their friendship so much i actually cried. a few times. thinking about them lol.

My unpopular opinion about this character: its a long time ago but i remember reading some fics that depicted white as this weak, frail fragile damsel in distress swooning and crying over N. let me tell you i hate it so much it became the very reason i started writing white LMAOOOO i get tht ppl hv preferences and white technicaly is a blank slate protag (before pokemas came out) but like......man it was SO bad and i cringed a few times when i remembered this one series tht was so adored and accepted by the fandom. white just went ‘oh gosh im so weak and helpless woo woo i want N help me wuuu wuuuu’ and Ns just....purely abusive. they really just channeled some abusive yandere shit on N JUST for their fetish fantasies......the nerve

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: LET WHITE REUNITE WITH N!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

my OTP: again. ferriswheelshipping aka N/touko. pokemon stepped up their game and gave us enemies to lovers. they even gave us a ferris wheel scene with N confessing hes the villain to her. cant believe pokemon gave us peak romance.

my cross over ship: OOOOO hmmm touko/touya? i know touya technically exist in her bw timeline too but like. hes not PART of the team so i enjoy the dynamic in pokemas.

a headcanon fact: MAN I USED TO HAVE A POST OF IT HAHAHAH I CANT FIND IT but yea lets see....one of my fav hcanons is that she is the hero of truth. shes fiesty, says her mind, a bit wild and reckless but shes also very loving and loyal to her friends and family. she sees her pokemon team as family members. since her parents divorce when she was 12 white is VERY bitter about her dad and it took her mom and friends to convince her on the pokemon adventure when shes 16. she stands true to whats right to her and she very much stands her ground against people/pokemon/ideals that are wrong to her

favorite thing about them: i've written this 3 times!!!! BUT!!!! i love that at the age of FIFTEEN she'd already got the title cruelest konoichi. like. ilu queen. and she's so confident too, like she knows she could wreck anyone's shit, she goes up against MADARA without ever pausing. and i love that whilee on the battlefield she's cruel, as a civillian she's just...lowkey a bitch. like she's scary and people know to fear her but she doesnt actually...bully anyone besides shikamaru. she's also so ride or die for her brothers and i LOVE it.

least favorite thing about them: whatever that ooc mess was that was used to get her and shikamaru together.

favorite line: idk but when she tells madara "don't understimate me!" GO OFF QUEEN

brOTP: gaara and kankuro, 100%. the sand siblings are so fucking good. i could talk all day about them. in the leaf i think she vibes with ino, though she needs Breaks. she didn't like, Get choji at first but the more she got to know him she's like "oh i get it he's just Genuinely Good" and now he's her favorite. i also like to imagine she and karui bonded over not being from the leaf, and also having ino as their sister in law. that's a unique experience okay.

OTP: shikamaru!!!!!!!

nOTP: i dont really have any?? i just can't ship her with anyone but shikamaru, i think he's it for her. temari was never really one to be concerned over romance or anything, it's not something she cared about, and she kind of expected an arranged marriage so she was more focused on Not doing that. but then shikamaru happened and it was like. oh. she actually wouldn't mind spending the rest of her life with him. huh. gross.

random headcanon: i have a lot of Thoughts about temari as a mother. i think that she never planned on being one, just like how she never planned on falling in love. it wasn't opposition, just. her childhood was fucked up, she had no good parental role models, she was much more interested in being a konoichi. but then she and shikamaru got serious and shikamaru is the head of the nara clan and he needed an heir. she agreed to it, in a few years, but shikadai was an oops ! so anyway, temari hated being pregnant lmao which is why they only had shikadai. but once he was born temari is like "oh. i'll kill and die for this child." like shikadai wasn't Real to her until she held him (vs shikamaru, who's been obsessed with that child since temari first started showing). temari actually tried going back to work when shikadai was a year old but pretty quickly she realized "fuck this". temari likes working, a lot, but she also likes being needed and she just likes her kid! so she oversaw all his training from the time he was old enough. it was hard at first, because she's never babied him, but she knew that the training she recieved was uh, not acceptable, so she struggled with what pace was actually okay for his age. hinata and sakura actually helped a lot here- hinata also had Fucked Up training as a child and sakura trained with tsunade who is Insane so they were able to figure out what worked best for their children. GOD THIS GOT LONG. anyway. i love temari and shikadai thank u.

favorite thing about them: god. i hate this but i genuinely love how smart he is and how fucking lazy he is. like how he kept complaing about his match with temari being moved up and then you realize it's because he was relying on the shadows? bitch. he's so cool. and when he pretended to be asleep rather than deal with whatever the fuck orochimaru was doing ESRTYTJU that's when i knew i loved him. but also, i love his development. like he really just wanted to coast through life, didnt want to get involved in anything, just wanted a plain wife and two boring kids. he had absolutely no aspirations. and he never had a ~change of heart~ for his own sake, he just surrounded himself by people who genuinely inspired him and he wanted to be of use to them. l love him!!!

least favorite thing about them: like the misogyny doesn't bother me THAT much because hashtag it could be worse! but it's not good lmao

favorite line: BITCH! "i'm your god" SIR I LOVE YOU. also his line about how he can't die because naruto doesn't have a smart younger brother to help him, and he's the only one capable of being naruto's advisor.

random headcanon: LET'S KEEP TALKING ABOUT SHIKADAI. so when shikamaru's dad dies he has a line about how he wasn't around when shikamaru was growing up, and shikamaru obviously doesn't resent him for that, but he does make a concious choice to Not do that. it'd be too easy to get wrapped up in his job, but he won't let himself. he makes sure to make time for shikadai. they play shogi together, and shikamaru is very involved in his training, and even when he's exhausted from work he'll listen to shikadai talk about his day and never show how tired he is. he loves his kid so much, temari makes fun of him for being soft. also when shikadai was a baby shikamaru was lowkey obsessed with him lmao. temari needed Breaks but shikamaru...never really did. even when he was crying he would just hold and bounce him until he calmeed down (also shikamaru was way better at calming shikadai down than temari lmao)

unpopular opinion: listen. is shikamaru misogynistic? yes. but he doesn't like, hate women or think less of them, he just needed to learn that not every woman is as insane as ino. i've seen too many "naruto as vines" videos where it's like shikamaru is like "oh sorry i fell asleep waiting for you to make me a sandwich" like thats not him!

favorite thing about them: oh gosh. i genuinely like that he was a fucking angry child. he had every right to be. the hyuuga system is FUCKED! he projected it onto hinata, which wasn't fair to her, but god. he didn't have an outlet and the chunnin exams was his only opportunity to take his anger out on the main branch. anyway i love that after naruto beat his ass he was like "okay maybe i should stop being a prick" and he just. got better. became friends with his team. healed his relationship with hinata. he became so genuinely good

Yang: i actually wanted to talk to you about this, our marriage is going to happen in about seven months, and i wanted you to be one of my bridesmaids since blake already is my maid of honor.

Weiss: ......i-i really don’t know what to say.

Jaune: just accept it, yang really wanted you to be one of her bridesmaids.

Weiss: i’ll think about it, its too much information for my brain to process in such a small amount of time.

Jaune: take your time, you have seven months to think in a answer.

Weiss: r-right.

Jaune: now if you excuse me, sun challenged me to an surf competition and i need to show him who’s the king of the beach.

Yang: okay, i’ll be cheering for you.

Jaune: thanks sunshine.

Yang: no prob handsome *leaning against his chest* now be sure to win okay? If you do, then you can be sure that the title of ‘king of the beach’ isn’t the only reward you’ll gain today~ *winks*

Jaune: *blushes slightly* okay, then you better let this reward ready, cause i'm not losing to anyone right now.

so i was thinking about doing a Roddaverse-themed Inktober

basically the idea was a bunch of open-ended prompts for each day like ‘a moment that makes you laugh every time’ and ‘favourite character’ and stuff like that.

i wondered if anyone would be interested, and might join me?

fanart is always fun (if they were stick figures i wouldn’t care and i��d love it so much), but if you didn’t want to sketch it, you could write about the subject in a few sentences (or a short fanfic, or even a whole essay, i’d honestly read it) or make a meme (laughs are always good, right?) or whatever!

if we’re interested, then perhaps i could schedule posts that have the prompts (other than the official one with all of them that you can review in advance of the days) and we could make a thread of the things we loved or hated or felt sad or whatever it’s about. it could potentially be a fun event in the fandom? (no pressure to take part or to commit to every single day, of course)

whether or not anyone actually wants to go along with this, i’ll make an attempt. unfortunately, my october seems to be assignment-busy :( so i would postpone it to november, or perhaps december when i should be more free. this is all in concept at the moment and the logistics still need to be figured out, but perhaps we can sort it out together as a fandom (all one billion of us, obviously).

one last thing, perhaps your contribution might simply be the prompts. here’s some of my ideas i had this morning, so you can get the idea of what i was going for. Then we can filter through them until we get a good batch (aiming to make them broad to encompass the whole Roddaverse rather than just Deltora Quest, but there were some that amused me too much).

i deliberated over how to do this for so long before relaizing i literally cant do her justice so im just gonna stream of consciousness all over this and its gonna be a mess and thats because i love her with my whole entire heart

favorite thing - yang’s writing is a work of meta genius that honestly outstrips anything even doki doki literature club did in my opinion, and if youve heard me talk about ddlc you know how big of a deal that is. her core character concept is that what you see isnt what you get, that she always hides her real personality, feelings, and ambitions behind a facade, but most importantly that this facade extends to what the audience is shown of her. we are no more privy to her inner thoughts than anyone else, and watching the rwby fandom have a fucking meltdown over the course of her arc as whats really going on comes to light has been absolutely wild.

i also love that this results in her being an inversion of the typical ‘not like other girls’ story. character in the show itself have literally called her a bimbo like its not subtle what they were going for, and i think monty and the rest of the writing team on rwby knew exactly how a bunch of anime fans would react to a scantily clad anime girl whos combat style involves punching things. getting to see deeper and deeper into her real psyche and learning that she is one of the most psychologically damaged and darkest characters in the show on the inside has been by far the most enjoyable part of the entire show and shes one of my absolute favorite characters ever written

least favorite thing - much like ddlc you cant sexualize a teenage girl like that and then have it comes out being an epic artistic win. like you just directly contributed to pedophilia and thats fucked and no amount of cool writing will counterbalance that. except here its even worse because she wasnt even 18 when the story started.

in terms of writing within the show i think her relationship with her dad is really fucking dumb and they butchered that entire aspect of her character by having him treat her like shit and her not react to it in any real way. her relationship with her biological and adoptive mothers is way way way more important so its not a huge deal but sooooooo many fights in the rwby fandom wouldnt happen if they had just thought through the way they wrote tai a little better

her catching adam’s sword was probably the best moment in the entire show to date and that line was the icing on the cake and a perfect example of her using the way people misread her to her advantage, especially against the character that was her strongest foil. watching a female character derided for years by the fanbase for being too angry and too headstrong deliberately and precisely baiting an abusive male character into letting those traits consume him in a life or death situation was unbelievably satisfying

brotp - yang gets along with everybody extremely well but i think weiss is the only person who really understands her on a deeper level. i think theres just certain experiences of extreme parental neglect that only translate if youve been there, and weiss and yang are the two who can really connnect on that since yang basically became ruby’s mom after their mom died and their dad shut down. i think its a really unlikely friendship that became one of the strongest in the series and the moment where weiss leaps into yang’s arms after not seeing her for the better part of a year always fucks me up

otp - i dont have anything clever to say here its bumbleby. blake and yang’s slowburn romance is one of the best wlw stories in fiction right now and absolutely blows me away when i really think about. wlw romances literally never get treated the way the show is treating them and its genuinely heartwarming to watch

notp - she hasnt been word of god confirmed as a lesbian but everything about the way shes written and especially the way shes treated by the crew outside of fiction (specifically editing out references that could be interpreted as her being attracted to men in the japanese localization and manga adaptation) makes it a foregone conclusion as far as im concerned, but at the same time there arent really any men that people ship with yang as anything other than an attempt to be homophobic on purpose

so basically i guess winter/yang is the big one without being straight up horrific. please dont ship teenagers with people who are like 28 i dont care how ultra mature yang is thats weird on a real world level no matter how hard you try to justify it

random headcanon - ruby’s the only character ever shown listening to music but i KNOW yang is a skramz kid. i KNOW it

It started out innocently enough. Harry was laboring away at his Defense Against the Dark Arts work in the library when he spotted it. More accurately, he was ignoring his apprenticeship work when he discovered the perfect distraction: a grey sweater, neatly draped over the back of an unoccupied chair. It seemed its owner had left it behind in their haste to get to class. Harry knew, of course, that the right thing to do would be to find out who it belonged to and return it. And if the mission meant taking a break from his assignments, he was beyond okay with that. After keeping a careful lookout for several minutes to see if anyone came to retrieve it, Harry walked over and picked it up.

It seemed familiar, though he couldn’t think why. Generally he didn’t notice clothing since, as Hermione was wont to point out, he was more oblivious than a piece of plywood. But he knew he’d seen this particular sweater before. It was thin–too large for any of the first through third years–and if Harry had seen it, it was likely from someone in seventh or eighth. After checking inside the collar and seeing no name written on the tag, he pulled it close to inhale the scent. Green apples, broom polish, and an expensive cologne Harry could recognize anywhere. The realization hit him instantly.

Without thinking, he shoved the sweater in his bag, packed up his books, and made a hasty exit. Harry’s heart was beating loudly in his ears all the way to the eighth year dorms. He felt conspicuous, like there was a dancing arrow over his head spelling, “thief, thief, thief” in neon.

“Hiya, Harry,” Seamus greeted as he made his way through the common room. Harry nodded briskly and kept walking. He couldn’t risk accidentally meeting Malfoy’s eyes because he was sure one look would give him away. The moment his door shut behind him, he exhaled and took a moment to collect himself.

The dorm was empty since he only shared it with Ron, who was on a date with Hermione at the Three Broomsticks. As eighth year returnees, they were granted more privileges than other students. They could go to Hogsmeade whenever they chose, and they weren’t restricted to the Hogwarts dress code which meant Harry practically lived in Muggle jeans and band T-shirts he found in Sirius’ room at Grimmauld Place. They also had the opportunity to work as apprentices with certain professors. Malfoy worked with Slughorn, Hermione worked with McGonagall, and Neville worked with Professor Sprout. Harry quite enjoyed his work with the new Defense teacher, but he still found himself wishing Remus was the one teaching him instead. He did a lot of wishing for lost faces these days.

Pulling the sweater out of his bag, Harry drew it close and breathed in that intoxicating scent. His eyes fell shut, and his thoughts visited cool grey eyes, soft blonde hair, and the sharp angles of Malfoy’s Quidditch-toned limbs. Harry had seen a lot of him since returning to Hogwarts, as the eighth years were in most of the same classes. They’d even come to a sort of truce, though Harry wouldn’t go so far as to call them friends. During that time, Harry had come to terms with the fact that he was very very gay and hopelessly crushing on said Slytherin. He let his head fall back against the door. As Harry considered his options, a sly smile slid across his face.

It was a moment of weakness that led to the theft of the sweater instead of its return, but it was Slytherin cunning that led to what happened next.

The next morning, Harry strutted into Potions with an easy smirk on his face. He wordlessly took a seat next to Malfoy, and leaned back, resting his hands on the back of his neck. Malfoy was carefully copying notes from the board and didn’t seem to notice Harry’s arrival, so the Gryffindor took a moment to study the blond. He was wearing a deep green sweater today, and he sat as posh as ever in his chair. He’d taken to wearing his hair loose lately rather than slicking it back, and the white tufts looked deliciously soft.

When Malfoy continued to copy his notes, Harry got impatient. “Ahem.”

“What is it, Potter?”

He didn’t look up, so Harry cleared his throat once more.

“For Merlin’s sake, Potter, spit it out. Can’t you see I’m trying to do the assignment?”

Harry rolled his eyes. As if Malfoy even needed to copy these notes down. He could do this potion with his hands tied behind his back. “Notice anything?” Harry asked.

Malfoy finally looked at him. The coldness in his eyes could have turned a Muggle to stone. “You’re taking up an ungodly amount of space given the size of this table?”

Harry snorted. “Try again.”

Malfoy gave a self-pitying sigh but looked again. “You’re wearing a woman’s sweater.”

Harry cracked up then, which only made Malfoy scowl more. “I suppose you’d know.”

Malfoy narrowed his eyes. “What’s that supposed to mean, Potter?”

Harry wiggled his brows and gestured at himself again.

Malfoy scoffed. “I don’t have time for this. Go bother the Weasel.”

Harry grinned but dutifully began copying his notes without another word. Malfoy was on edge for the first few minutes as if he expected another comment or strange game, but soon, he too fell into his work. When it was time to start the potion, Malfoy removed his sweater and set it on the back of his chair.

“Would you mind grabbing the ingredients?” Harry asked pleasantly.

Malfoy stood and walked into the supply closet. Harry, meanwhile, looked around to make sure no one was watching before slipping the green sweater into his bag. He then prepared the cauldron as if nothing had happened and waited to see if Malfoy noticed.

When Malfoy returned, his arms were full and his mind seemed to be five steps ahead–and definitely not on the missing sweater. Harry grinned wider.

“What’s so amusing, Potter?” Malfoy asked when Harry didn’t stop.

Harry only shook his head. “Nothing. Let’s get this potion done, yeah?”

Malfoy studied him in suspicion. “You’d better not try anything. I’m up to my ears in apprenticeship work, and I can’t handle getting on Slughorn’s bad side.”

Harry’s eyes widened innocently. “Try something? Me?”

Malfoy pinched the bridge of his nose. “Lord help me. Just–whatever it is, don’t fuck up the potion.”

Harry smirked. “I assure you, messing with the potion isn’t part of the plan.”

Malfoy looked relieved. “Thank Merlin. If you could start cutting up the–wait, what plan?”

Harry only shook his head and got to work. He could see Malfoy opening and closing his mouth in his periphery, but he didn’t acknowledge it. Eventually, Malfoy got to work as well, but his jaw was clenched and his fingers stiff as if he was ready for whatever Harry threw at him. Little did he know, Harry wasn’t interested in throwing things as much as he was in stealing them. And step two of the plan was already complete.

Draco’s nerves were in tatters by the time he left Potions. He kept waiting for Potter to do…whatever it was he was planning to do, but he never did. Pansy and Blaise were giggling about something or other, but Draco couldn’t get that infernal grin out of his mind. Potter hated Potions, and he was bollocks at it besides. There was no reason for him to be that bloody happy unless he was plotting something. But if he was plotting something, why didn’t anything go wrong?

Draco was still wondering what the answer was during Ancient Runes, and then Transfiguration, and then Charms. He felt like he was losing his mind. As he washed his hands in the bathroom before dinner, he noticed he wasn’t wearing his sweater. Merlin, I really am losing my mind. Where did I leave it last?

He decided to retrace his steps, which meant the first possibility was the Great Hall. Arriving at the Slytherin table, he realized he would look like a barbarian or an idiot if he started crawling under the tables or checking all the benches while people were sitting on them, so instead he announced, “My sweater is missing. Has anyone seen it?”

The first years nervously shook their heads, too intimidated to be of any help. Some of the older students looked around briefly before shrugging and muttering their no’s.

“I’d be happy to help. What’s it look like?” Astoria asked. She was always kissing up to him because her parents thought they’d make a good match. Draco could see through it like glass, but it generally served him to have an eager helper, so he hadn’t told her to piss off yet.

“It’s a green turtleneck. I’m off to check the Potions room. Let me know if you find it.”

She nodded enthusiastically, and Pansy and Blaise rolled their eyes. Draco shrugged in reply before taking off for his next stop.

When he stepped into the Potions room, he racked his brain to remember if he’d been wearing it during class. Yes, he was quite sure he’d had it in the beginning. But then–he’d taken it off before getting the supplies. It must be in his chair then. There wasn’t a class there, so he didn’t have to make a scene, and he whistled a soft tune, pleased to have solved the puzzle.

His hopes fell, however, when he reached his seat. The sweater wasn’t there. Did someone pick it up and give it to Slughorn perhaps? Did Draco take it with him and leave it somewhere else? Upon careful review of his memories, he realized the sweater wasn’t there when he came back with the supplies. Which meant–

Potter must have taken it. Which was why he looked so darn pleased with himself. Draco hissed and stormed off into the castle. Of course it was Potter. Why hadn’t he thought of it earlier? Draco thought Potter must have gone a bit loony if he thought this was a prank, but maybe there was more to it Draco hadn’t discovered yet. Either way, Draco was sure the Weasley twins would be disappointed in the Golden Boy if they witnessed this particular tomfoolery.

As Draco made his way to the Great Hall, he remembered another part of Potions class.

“Notice anything?” Harry asked.

“You’re wearing a woman’s sweater.”

“I suppose you’d know.”

Fuuuuuuck. He’d taken Draco’s other sweater as well. He was wearing it. And he’d gotten Draco to accidentally insult his own fashion sense. Salazar, Draco was going to kill him. He stormed into the Great Hall and made his way toward Potter. Distantly, he heard people snickering, but the sound didn’t quite register. When he finally reached the thief, he crossed his arms.

“Potter. Outside. Now.”

Potter grinned, eyes matching the new sweater, which he was wearing now instead of the grey. “Sure, Malfoy.”

Draco walked out, and Potter followed. People whispered as they made their exit, but there was something odd about the tone. Usually when he and Potter fought, people placed bets and said their prayers, but today, it was the sound of rumors and suppressed giggles. Draco didn’t have time to figure out what that meant.

Once outside, he whirled on Potter. “You stole my sweater.”

Potter held up two fingers.

Draco exhaled as evenly as possible. “You stole two of my sweaters.”

Potter was grinning again. “What are you going to do about it?”

“I’m going to tear it off you, you stupid prat.”

Potter raised his brows. “How forward of you, Malfoy. Most blokes would ask a guy on a date first.” The Gryffindor’s lips twisted into another one of those smiles, and Draco thought he might throttle him. Instead, he pinned him against the wall.

“I’m not asking you on a goddamn date, Potter, I’m asking for my fucking sweater back!”

Potter winced at the volume. “Have fun telling that to the rest of the students.”

Draco stared blankly. “What are you talking about?”

“Didn’t you hear them whispering?” He seemed genuinely surprised. “They weren’t quiet about it at all. They were making bets on whether or not we’re shagging and gossiping about us being in a secret relationship.”

“What? What did you tell them, Potter? Did you tell them we’re…we’re…boyfriends or something?”

“I didn’t say anything.”

“Did you do something then?”

Potter looked nervously at the ground. “Um, no, er, you said something.”

Draco looked even more flabbergasted. “What are you talking about?”

Potter shuffled his feet. “You told everyone this is your sweater, and I’m wearing it, so they just, um, connected the dots.”

Draco released him like he’d been burned. “What the fuck, Potter? Why didn’t you tell them off? How the fuck are you planning to convince them we’re actually enemies? You know how these people are.” When there was no response, Draco started pulling the sweater off of Potter–

…only to realize once it was off that he wasn’t wearing anything underneath. Draco’s face went pink. “Um.”

Potter awkwardly ran a hand through his hair. “Funny enough, I don’t think this is going to convince them we’re not fucking.”

Draco blushed even harder at his choice of language. “Sorry, Potter, but I didn’t expect you to be defiling my sweater my wearing it against your bare chest!”

“And I didn’t expect you to disrobe me in the middle of the corridor, but look where we are.”

“Why are you not more upset by this?” Draco hissed. Potter seemed insistent on being unhelpful, so Draco knew it was up to him to make things right. He started unbuttoning his shirt.

“Malfoy, what are you doing?”

“Giving you my shirt, so you don’t walk in there half naked.”

Harry nodded dazedly. “Right. Good thinking.” His eyes followed Draco’s fingers as they undid each button one by one. “Except the reason they think we’re together in the first place is because I was wearing your clothes. So us switching clothes isn’t going to help our case.”

“Do you have a better idea, Potter?”

Breathlessly, he managed, “No, sorry. Keep going.”

Draco looked up at the tone of his voice. “Salazar, Potter. You’re flushed. Are you trying to make it look like we just shagged?”

Potter threw his hands in the air. “Oh, sorry. Is my gay showing?”

Draco froze on the last button. Fuck, did he just imply that he was flushing because of me? Potter bit his lip, realizing what he’d just said. Draco met his eyes. There was a moment of tension so heavy it squeezed at Draco’s lungs.

“I’ll try harder,” Potter said quietly. “I don’t want to ruin your reputation or whatever over a stupid prank.”

Draco nervously broke eye contact and pulled his shirt off. Without a word, he handed it to Potter, who took it and began to put it on. When he got to the buttons, Draco brushed those tan hands aside and did them up himself. He heard Potter’s breath catch. His own breath was shaky as he reached the last button, and his hands weren’t much better. He straightened the collar and met Potter’s gaze once more.

Potter was a little shorter than him, but not by much, so he could feel his breath on his neck. Electricity sparked between them, threatening to close the gap and press them together. Draco hadn’t realized how much he’d wanted just that until the electricity won over and he found himself kissing the Gryffindor. Potter’s lips were chapped, and when Draco didn’t pull away, they began to move with a hot, insistent pressure against Draco’s. Draco let his hands slip down from Potter’s collar and onto his torso. He regretted doing up the buttons already, but he’d needed that time to convince himself to kiss Potter at all, and the white button down was thin enough. Potter looped his fingers through Draco’s belt loops and pulled him up against him before wrapping his hands around to Draco’s back. Draco felt each touch like fire on his skin, and he knew there was no chance of looking innocent now. His pale skin would be flushed to match Potters, and his lips would likely be bruised too. He must have been somewhat lightheaded because that thought didn’t even bother him.

He finally broke away for air. Potter’s eyes were bright and his lips were parted in a way that made Draco want to kiss him again.

“Was that part of the plan?” Potter asked. “Because you look thoroughly snogged, and I highly doubt you’re going to convince anyone of anything.”

Draco raised his brows. “Oh sorry. Is my gay showing?” Potter shoved him with a smile, handing Draco his sweater. “You know,” Draco said as he pulled it over his head. “We could always just…not go back. Then we don’t have to prove anything.”

Potter narrowed his eyes. “You know they’ll assume anyway, right?”

Draco smirked. “Let them. It’s not like they’re that far off track.” Then he glared. “This was your plan all along, wasn’t it?” When Potter didn’t respond, Draco continued, “If it hadn’t been absolutely bonkers I would have seen it from the start.”

“It worked, didn’t it?” Potter looked hopefully at him from beneath his fringe. Draco considered objecting to that, but he figured maybe it was alright for Potter to best him sometimes if it led to snogging. “Since we’re not going back to the Great Hall,” Potter continued, “what are we doing?”

Draco pretended to be in deep thought. “Well, I’ve recently made a new discovery, but before I’m convinced, I have a few more trials to do.”

Potter hid a smile, tapping his chin. “Hmm…I could be convinced to try on your clothes. But only if you’re willing to take them off of me.”

Draco smirked. “I think I could be persuaded.”

Harry did smile now, gesturing down the hall. “Lead the way.”
