#is that Hunter and Tech could probably walk into the same room and see the same job that has to be done

A funny thing about the semi-common fanon that Tech is secretly insecure is that Tech is wildly competent and not at all humble about it in a way that’s very matter-of-fact and not at all haughty or overbearing, and also. Also. Hunter is. Like. Right there. If we want an insecure guy on the team. Not even bothering to project confidence. Fully aware that he’s not up to the task at hand and fumbling through how to deal with it. Half-paralyzed by the fear of failure. Hunter’s a crunchy dorito of crippling insecurity.

Asking For Help
Pairing: Platonic Tech & F!Reader
Summary: You decide to stay in bed to deal with the pain you're experiencing. The Batch notices and sends Tech to check on you.
Warnings: Reader kind of described as AFAB as fic deals with period pain. But other than that, pure fluff! It can 100% be platonic.
Word Count: 918
Notes: Does the Bad Batch understand anatomy? Probably. Was it more fun to make them panic? Absolutely. I mostly wrote this for me as I took the day off work for this exact reason 😂 no real proofreading.
Taglist: None, let me know if you'd like to be added!

The Marauder's cockpit seemed weirdly empty without you, and everyone noticed your absence. You hadn't been with Clone Force 99 for very long, but when you spend all your time with the same people for four months, they start to worry when you're not being as social as you normally would.
"Where is she?" Hunter finally asked, looking at the empty seat you normally occupied.
Wrecker shrugged, "I tried calling her this morning for breakfast but she didn't leave her room."
"Is it not obvious?" Tech asked, eyes not leaving his datapad. "She exhibits this behaviour roughly around the same time each month."
He thought he was giving everyone the answer, but their confused faces told him that he wasn't.
"She is mostly likely menstruating."
"In Common, Tech." Wrecker said.
Crosshair rolled his eyes, "She's on her period. It's not the end of the world."
Eyes turned back to Tech for an explanation, and he sighed.
"Do none of you pay attention to the anatomy manuals? People who are biologically female go through this process nearly every month. Their body prepares itself for an egg to be fertilized, but when it is not, it begins to shed the excess in the form of blood and uterine lining. Typically resulting in side effects such as; mood swings, pelvic cramps, lower back pain, and headaches to name a few."
Wrecker looked shocked, "And they do this every month? That sounds painful."
Tech shrugged, "I couldn't say, from my understanding, each person reacts differently."
"Shouldn't we check on her? Make sure she's okay?" Hunter asked.
"She does it every month with or without us, I don't see how now is any different." Crosshair pointed out.
"Yeah but, we're her friends, we should help if we can."
Wrecker looked back to Tech, "You know the most about it, you go see if she's okay."
Expectant looks all pointed in Tech's direction and he shook his head. "Fine, I suppose I could inquire after her."
Truthfully, Tech was also concerned for you, even though he had a vague understanding of what was going on. He found your presence soothing, and the Marauder seemed more cheerful with you around. And it was his nature to want to solve any problems that arose, so he wanted the chance to do that now.
He got up from his seat and walked toward the refresher to look for a hot compress and some painkillers so that he might actually be of assistance before cautiously walking toward your room.
He knocked quietly.
"...Yeah?" You croaked from inside the room.
"It's Tech, may I come in?"
You didn't answer immediately but then after a few seconds you spoke, "Door's unlocked."
He pressed the button to open the door before stepping in and letting it close behind him. He frowned slightly when he was you curled up on your bunk with your arms around your stomach.
"I take it I was correct then, you are menstruating."
"Yeah." You replied a little too harshly. "Did you need something?"
"It appears your absence went quite noticed this morning and the others are worried about you."
"So they sent you to check on me?"
He adjusted his goggles, "Well, even though I had suspected what the issue was, I suppose I was also worried."
You didn't say anything, but you moved slowly, creating room for him to sit down on your bunk, he sat on the edge.
"I have brought you a compress and painkillers, if you are interested. I have heard they help to alleviate any cramping and pain associated with it." He handed both to you.
You smiled at his gesture and took the painkillers first. "Thank you," you swallowed two of them down with water from the canteen beside your bunk, then you took the heat compress and hugged it to your stomach.
"Is there anything else I can do for you?" He asked, looking down at you.
You looked at him then looked at your pillow and shook your head.
"Very well, I will check up on you later then." He announced before standing up and walking toward the door.
"Wait.." You called out. He turned to look at you. "Can you stay.. with me?"
His expression went from surprised to a gentle smile, and he nodded. "Of course."
He walked back over to your bunk and returned to his seat on the edge.
"Can we- er... Can you hold me?" You asked, so quietly that he thought he might have misheard you.
"You'd like me to hold you?" He repeated.
His need for clarification caused blood to rise to your face in embarrassment.
"If-if that's okay, actually, nevermind I-"
But before you could finish your rambling, Tech crawled into the bunk next to you, holding you so your back was firm against his chest.
You sighed into him and closed your eyes as he began drawing idle shapes on the skin of your shoulder.
"Thank you, Tech." You repeated.
"You are welcome, but your gratitude is unwarranted. We are your friends, we want to help you. Anytime you need us, you do not need to be afraid to ask for help, no matter what ails you.”
You smiled once more. With the heat both from the compress and Tech pressed against you and the painkillers beginning to kick in, you felt yourself finally begin to drift off to sleep. Despite his protests, you were truly grateful to have friends who cared about you, no matter what was going on.

EYES LOCKED, HANDS LOCKED
silver wolf x gn!reader
synopsis: how you and silver wolf became buddy-buddy, and the levels of intimacy you go through once you become closer.
warnings: pining, friends to ???, silver wolf can be annoying as shit, also I've never fallen in love so im winging it in the last section
Tumblr media
i think at first, before you two even become "friends", she'd think you were annoying.
not because you are, but because she can't mess with you in the same way you do to her.
you know, it's hard to keep up with someone that has similar powers to you.., you're not on that pedestal anymore.
but at the same time it's quite refreshing to her, I mean, how often does she get whisked off her feet, how many times is she up against someone one step ahead of her? not often, that's for sure.
silver wolf is lying on a couch mindlessly scrolling through her phone when you form into the room with a handheld console, "walking" toward her with intent; this has become the norm for you two.
you wave the console around as a sort of greeting and get to the point, "hey, wolfie, i just found this pretty cool game, you should play!" you told her while sitting on the couch she laid on, once again waving the console in her direction. except only one word stuck out to her— wolfie. since when did you call her that? seriously, waaay too chummy for her liking. (no matter how many times she tries convincing herself otherwise, she doesn't actually mind the nickname all that much.)
your hologram shifted closer to her, probably out of habit, to, in your words, "really show her the game", forcing the console closer to her face while blabbering about how cool it'd be if she played it.
the stellaron hunter still had her mind on that nickname you called her, i mean, where did that come from? she extended her hand through the holographic console and shook it, hoping you'd get the gist of what she was trying to do.
you retract both your hand and console then looked at silver wolf, watching her as she speaks. "what did you call me?" huh? what's she on about? wait, does she mean that nickname? "i called you wolfie?" your words form into something similar to a question, not that you intended it to.
after this, she just stares at you. a lot of questions run through your head; does she want you to say something? is she thinking?
eventually words just flow out of your mouth. "were we not close enough to get to the "nickname stage" of a friendship? or do you not like nicknames? or was it—" she cuts you off and finally spoke after the minutes of torture she just gave you.
"hold on, nothing was wrong with it! i was just a little confused." the last few words felt like they were thrown in,
"confused?"
"mm, i didnt think we were all that close," it's almost like she could feel the discourse stirring up in your head, "but your cool to be around so i don't mind being close."
your hologram smiled, cheeks rising and all— it was nice to see. at least, that's what silver wolf would say.
she'd still argue that it's a bummer she couldn't see the real you like that, such a shame you don't use aether editing on your physical body.
now, you're a closer friend of hers. she doesn't usually do "friends", so cherish this title.
i think now she'll tease you way more.., just her way of showing you can get friendly with her
one of the many different ways she'll mess with you is by pinching your cheeks, at least when she sees you in your physical form (which isnt often...bummerx2)
another way is by changing the image-form on your hologram so you look ridiculous, you catch onto it early-on, so it's not as fun...
until she finds out that you can have quite the temper to people who ask silly questions, it seems like she's found another way to mess with you.
the two of you are at a store, somewhere in the slums of an unnamed planet, haggling with the owner for some definitely not legal, nor licensed, piece of tech.
"200k? for this piece of junk? no way!"
"if it were just a piece of junk you wouldn't be here in the first place! pay up or leave!"
"10k. take it or leave it."
"leave!!"
silver wolf grew more annoyed by the second. it seemed like this old head wouldn't budge, and it's not like she's paying 200k for something like that...
she might as well leave, this isn't getting anywhere.
"y/n, let's go." she turns to you— well, the space where she thought you'd be.
her eyes scan the room for you, she's not leaving this dump alone, lest she forget you on this planet and she never hears of you again. walking to the front of the store she finally finds you; staring at some piece of tech in your hand— one that looks quite similar to the one she attempted to haggle for.
her mouth stands agap for just a few seconds, "did you— no way.., I didn't think I'd be friends with a criminal." She starts to smile, her eyes lidded.
you gasped, "there you are! 'kay, take this." you take her arm and open her hand, placing the piece of tech on it. she looks up at you, wondering. "quick, make three copies." your request sounded more like a command.
"oh? and who are you to be demanding me? i expect proper payment y'know."
your body grew rigid, is this girl serious? a sigh escaped your mouth, a hand caressed your temple. "what would you like as compensation, o' great silver wolf?" the last few words dragging on.
she holds a finger to your chest and pokes it to the rhythm of her words, "i get to take a copy of your super-secret-coding!" she's smiling, but it's not a kind smile. the type of smile you feel would belong on a cheshire cat, one that can tell you for certain that she's having quite a lot of fun.
you stutter—sputter. "what!? no way!" that was your life's work, the foundation of the life that you had built, the reason you were so insusceptible to aether-attacks/basic hax. you'd be damned if you gave someone a copy just for some miniscule favour.
"seriously? damn." silver wolf looks to the sky, plentiful clouds of smoke. "is it really all that important?" she tries to play dumb for a moment, just to see the look of anger flash on your face. "yes! you of all people should know!"
she chuckles, and then it quickly evolves into laughter as you question her, trying to speak through the incoming giggles. though, the chatter quickly came to a close when you heard a certain old man yell,
"THIEVES! DIRTY, NASTY THIEVES!!"
the two of you shared a look, "let's go, now!" you whispered in hopes that he wouldn't quicken his pace. "c'mon, what's the worst an old man can do? we don't have to run." silver wolf spoke, "I would rather not get caught and handed to this planet's policers, we're running." your hand held hers as you ran, just borderline sprinting, hearing that shop owner squawk as he attempted to run outside, only to find the two of you running— or rather, you dragging silver wolf as you set the pace.
now, you're in your respective rooms, light years apart.
silver wolf laid on her bed, stretching as her console lay next to her, paused.
you, however, had just finished making 3 copies of the tech you had now stolen. one for you, one for silver wolf, one for the old man you robbed, and the original another for display purposes.
though, you contemplated giving silver wolf a copy, but your doubts quickly faded as you realised that she was just fucking with you.
you kick one of the boxes in your room out of anger, blaming silver wolf when you hear something shatter.
silver wolf sees something forming out of the corner of her eye— she expects it to be you, so imagine her surprise when it's a copy of the stolen tech accompanied with a sticky note.
can't come. fixing something. don't fuck with me next time we go somewhere, its not enjoyable.
the hacker lets out a quiet, quick snicker. when she first met you, you didn't have such attitudes, she thought you'd be the type to be strictly against such passive aggressiveness, let alone thievery. anywho, this is certainly enjoyable to her, so expect her to keep on messing with you (this time in moderation)
ahhh, you've finally gotten to the hurtful-and-hair-pulling-pining stage.
i can't say it'd be the most enjoyable, or the worst experience possible, but it definitely has it's own set of pros and cons.
but, what i can guarantee you is that the "self-isolation/purposely drifting away" trope won't work with silver wolf.
i mean, you're a good friend to her now. she'd know if you tried to end everything, she's not stupid.
falling in love with silver wolf had to be the most.. unique experience you'd been through. i mean, it's not like you planned for this to happen— it's not often you're hit with such feelings without some sort of insight.
it's pleasant at times, when you go to sleep and start thinking of the one you love rather than the embarrassing things you've done years ago. it helps sometimes, when you're in bed having one of those days where you don't want to do anything— even the thought of her is just enough for you to get up.
but other times? quite the nuisance.
one time, when your hologram appeared in silver wolf's room, the door was left wide open, and you had locked eyes with a tall lady with an eerie look on her face. "oh? and who are you? wolfies friend? or her enemy? you can't just be a stranger to show up in her room." you opened your mouth to explain, but it seems like she's come to her own conclusion. "ah!— are you her partner? maybe a hook-up mad at her.." you stood, trying to explain that no, you weren't her enemy, and no you weren't a hook-up, and definitely not a partner! though she kept playing into the partner thing, insisting that you had to be her s/o.
"you suuure you're not her partner? I mean..."
"yes! I'm sure!"
this kept on going for a while until silver wolf came along, finding kafka standing in front of her room, teasing someone inside. "kafka, are you bullying a ghost?" kafka smiles, "no, I'm talking to your partner." huh? partner? I don't think I'm with anyone ri— she looks past kafka and into the room, only to find you. "y/n?" she questions how this situation even happened, but unfortunately she has no one but kafka to ask, for as soon as you two locked eyes, you disconnected.
your feelings on the topic of having a crush changed quickly changed from "this is such an inconvenience!" and "ah, how enjoyable this is. I hope everybody has these feelings atleast once in their life.", similar to the swinging of a pendulum.
but, there was one thing you've pushed far into the back of your head, will these feelings ever be reciprocated?
it's a known fact that silver wolf thinks of this life as a game, but does that stretch to relationships? does she think you're a game? as soon as this thought crossed your mind you couldn't stop thinking. what if you were just some sort of side quest to her— or even worse- an NPC.
everything was so much and so little at the same time,
a hand snuck around you as she took a photo, she muttered a quick "cheese" before the lights flashed. is it pathetic you still think about how she held you? the feeling of her hand— of her. at the time you felt so much for her, but now? you yearn for more.
would it kill her to do that again? you wanna take selfies with her all the time, to savour her expressions, even though they're rather limited that's never stopped you from loving each as their own.
you kept on thinking about the stupid things you wanted to do with her, you wanted to see her with her hair down, you wanted to hug her— a real hug, not those dreadful side hugs. a tight hug, one full of love. your thoughts ended as you were met with the ringing of your phone, you jolted up, not expecting silver wolf to speak in such a pained tone.
"where have you been?" she practically whispers into the speaker, "I've.." is rotting in bed at home an acceptable excuse? you shouldn't have picked up— it's not like you even expected her to call you, at most you thought it'd be some package confirmation. "home."
this conversation isn't going anywhere... that's good, right? you want to distance yourself from her— maybe you should just let her hate you.
silver wolf very obviously sighs into the speaker, disappointment was in the air. "y/n, cut the crap and tell me why you're running away from me."
"running away? what do you mean?" play dumb, play dumb....
"quit playing dumb! just tell me— I'm not a fan of these psychological games y'know."
just tell her? how easy does she think this is— how easy does she think having these feelings are? but, isn't it more painful to keep this bottled up? to make her hate you?. "reme—remember when you said life's just one big game to you?" your words quiver, something you wish didn't happen.
"hm? what's that gotta do with this?" quick to get to the point, just as ever. "what am I to you then?"
your words linger for quite a while until silver wolf finally racks up a reply;
"player 2, obviously."
EXTRA:
"didn't expect you to be so corny, 'o great silver wolf."
"shut up. not funny."

thoughts on the new bad batch trailer?
(i saw it had come out thru @techs-goggles9902 and couldnt be bothered to watch it for hours and now i have im so excited)
~ Jamie <3
youtube
Heeeyyyy, @fionajames <3
I just posted a spoiler...looks like someone is back w/their brothers...*cough* Mosshair *cough*
Please take my analysis with a grain of salt as Disney can post flashback scenes, scenes that might look to be part of a whole sequence but are two separate/several ones to throw us off. Plus these is plenty that they AREN'T probably including in the trailer. Should be interesting if there will be a second trailer for S3.
I don't see too much serious evidence that outwardly points to Tech. HOWEVER, I do see two "maybe" possibilities in the trailer and they are both wearing helmets:
Timestamp 1:03, The "X" Clone Trooper shown in the second half of the trailer. Now I have seen one trooper who unalived himself in the last season w/Senator Chuchi and Rex, so we know there are clones still actively working for the Empire. And, if you look REALLY close, Timestamp 0:36, there are more X Clone Troopers in the trailer scene right before the one w/Omega getting scanned. It's a shot from the top of the room showing what looks like 3 X Clone Troopers and a droid. Could one of them be Tech? Don't know.
Timestamp 1:14, The scene with the Imperial armored soldier in the cockpit of his ship lifting his left arm up. Did Tech steal a stormtroopers armor to save his brothers? Remember Tech's "hand signal" callback to S1? Is he signaling to The Batch? Or, also in Tech fashion, is he flailing because of an explosion as Tech sometimes does? Or, is it just a random stormtrooper and not Tech?
Looks like we get Fennec, Rex, Echo, Phee, Howzer, Cad Bane, Ventress, Palpatine, and Scorch.
The scenes in the trailer that REALLY has me scratching my head:
Timestamp 0:28 shows an Imperial Transport ship crashed and smoldering on a large hill. Is it the same ship from Timestamp 1:07? Faraway shot of several figures walking away: The one at the top of the hill looks like Omega. There is a figure either rolling down the hill: Wrecker? Although, silly me who works with dogs...it almost looks like a dog running down the hill. And a figure at the bottom that I at first thought was Crosshair...but then it kinda looks like Rex with the shadowy person walking next to them on the other side. It looks like Phee's hair. Or did this ship only carry Omega as seen in Timestamp 1:23? Did she meet someone on the planet to help her hide? Someone with a dog (I just remember the wonderful scene with the space puppy licking Omega's face and how happy her laugh sounded)?
Timestamp 0:33 is that Crosshair in the left hand side of the screen walking calmly in the opposite direction (that everyone else is running)? Is he settling a score? Is that Clone Trooper "X" (possibly Tech?).
What does the "il" uniform patches on each side of Omega's shoulders mean. I checked the Aurebesh language keys online. Doesn't match up with anything.
Who is CX-1??? Timestamp 1:15. Boba Fett????
Timestamp 1:21, who is the dude in the white and grey armor??? Wait...OH SHIT...is THAT WOLFFE???
I DON'T trust Emerie. She's creepy. Sorry. Not all the clones are tight with one another. I worry she's in secretly with Hemlock.
Are Fennec and Cad Bane working with The Batch? Or against them? Is Ventress teaming up with The Batch against Palpatine? Or is she truly fighting them at the end? Or is that just two separate scenes meant to look like they go together?
And, something that makes me sad: Both Hunter and Wrecker look older, more aged. They are still so handsome. However, with the stress of what they have gone through, plus their advanced aging...well, how long do they have left? The still of Echo doesn't look like he aged at all. Could it be that he isn't as accelerated due to what the Techno Union did to him? Or were The Batch genetically altered to be so specialized...but live even shorter lives than the Regs?

Jari'eyc - Chapter 6
Read on AO3
Word Count: 1827
Warnings: anxiety, PTSD (Order 66 related), injuries (blaster grazes and hit, cuts, burn), impending awkward relationship conversation, medical care (stitches, bacta application), Echo and Fives are both lovesick puppies over the same woman, Tech just straight up telling it like it is
Fun fact: This description - "Echo said, his hand reaching up to rub that spot of his neck that always knotted up when he got stressed." - is based on what my mother refers to as her "mom knot".

Tumblr media
Hunter’s mind was still racing as Sinya scrambled to her feet, frantically looking around as she backed away from him. She watched him, her silvery eyes a depth of fear he’d rarely seen, then darted away in the direction of Movri’s stand.
“Wrecker!” he called as he got to his feet, pointing at the fleeing woman.
Wrecker noticed the woman running and stepped in front of her, blocking her path into the small alleyway.
“St-stay back,” she warned as Hunter got closer. He could just barely hear the soft hum of a vibroblade behind her cloak.
Hunter held his hands up, free of any weapons. “Take it easy, Sinya,” he spoke gently. “We’re not gonna hurt you.”
Sinya scowled, eyes darting back and forth between him and Wrecker. Hunter could hear her heart pounding.
“It’s okay,” he assured. “Can you put the knife away? We just want to talk.”
“You- you’re not going to- to attack me?” she whimpered, her tone wrapping around Hunter’s heart, constricting.
“We won’t,” he said. “I promise.”
“Hunter,” Wrecker whispered. Hunter followed his gaze to his own shirt, stained with a deep indigo.
Sinya coughed hard, the same indigo spattering from her lips. Her breathing was labored as she seemed to fight to stay on her feet.
Hunter hazarding a step forward. “Sinya-”
Sinya's eyes rolled back in her head as her body went limp. Hunter barely caught her before she hit the ground.
“I still can’t believe you’re really,” Echo breathed. He hadn’t taken his eyes off Runi in almost an hour.
“So you’ve said,” she smiled.
Fives snorted. “Yeah, Echo’s repeating things. How out of character.”
Echo rolled his eyes, but went quiet.
“We should probably talk about the bantha in the room,” Runi mumbled.
Fives shifted uncomfortably in his seat. She looked to Echo and saw a flash of confusion cross his features.
Echo’s comm pinged, but he pressed a button to ignore it.
“What bantha-”
The comm pinged again and Echo growled in frustration, tapping it. “What?”
“Echo, where are you?” Hunter asked.
“I’m with-” he faltered. “I’m with Fives.”
“Get back to the ship. We’ve got a guest and we don’t know if she had anyone following her.”
Echo shook his head. “‘Guest’? Hunter-”
The comm pinged again, signaling Hunter’s comm disconnecting.
“I hate it when he does that,” Echo grumbled.
“It sounds like there could be trouble,” Fives said warily.
“Maybe,” Echo agreed.
Runi tapped his hand. “Go,” she nodded. “We’ll still be here.”
Echo sighed. “Please come with me.”
“What-”
“Runi, I’m scared that if I let you out of my sight, you’ll disappear and this will have all been another dream.”
His golden eyes bore into her soul. “Okay,” she whispered.
The three of them made their way through Ord Mantell City, Echo’s hand never leaving Runi’s. Fives followed behind them, his nerves bundling deep in his gut as he watched the reunited couple.
“What’s the emergency?” Echo asked as he walked into the ship. He didn’t see anyone immediately, so he motioned for Runi and Fives to wait there. He listened carefully, following the hushed voices of his squad to the medbay.
The door was open and he peered in. His brothers were gathered, talking quietly to the side of the exam table. Omega was sitting in a chair next to it. There was someone laying on the table, but he couldn’t make out who.
Omega noticed him first, smiling and walking over to him.
He kneeled. “Hey, kid,” he gave her a small nod. “What’s going on?”
“Hunter and Wrecker were on the supply run and they found someone they know,” she informed him, glancing back at the person on the table. “But she’s hurt pretty badly.”
Echo nodded again, standing and walking over to the table. He felt his jaw go slack as he took in the sight before him. Sinya Bey was laid out on the table, unconscious, with bandages wrapped around her torso.
He felt like his brain was going to short circuit. “What-”
“She just about ran me over in the market,” Hunter informed him, coming to stand at his side. “She was… scared. Seemed like someone was chasing her.”
Echo scowled. “What the hell is she doing on Ord Mantell?”
“Don’t know. She barely got a few words out before she passed out, but she recognized us.”
Echo crossed his arms.
“Echo, she-” Hunter started before glancing back at the other group. His voice dropped to nearly a whisper. “She reminded me of the kid on Kaller; terrified, always checking over her shoulder.”
“That doesn’t make sense,” Echo muttered back. “Sinya’s not a Jedi.”
Hunter sighed, running his hand over his face. “I don’t know what’s going on, but I don’t like it. What if she’s bait?”
Echo’s eyes shut as he took a deep breath.
“Echo?” Fives called from the doorway.
Everyone’s heads turned to look at him.
“Right,” Echo nodded. He walked out to talk to him and Runi.
“What’s going on?” Runi asked.
“The woman in there… she’s a friend of-” Echo sighed. “Maybe was a friend of our old squadmate.”
Fives scowled. “The one that tried to kill you and was sent to hunt you all down?”
Echo nodded.
“Wait, what?” Runi sputtered.
“It’s a long story,” Echo said, his hand reaching up to rub that spot of his neck that always knotted up when he got stressed.
“Is she trying to kill you?” Fives asked, gesturing to Sinya’s unconscious form.
Echo shrugged. “Hunter said she seemed paranoid before, and she was badly injured. At least she’s not trying to kill us right now.”
Runi grabbed his hand, treasuring the way he squeezed it immediately. “Do you want me to take a look at her injuries?”
“Probably not a bad idea,” he nodded, showing her into the room.
Tech joined them as soon as they got to the exam table.
“A few grazes, one direct hit, several lacerations to the chest and abdomen, as well as a rather intense burn on her left palm and wrist,” he informed her. “We are unsure of the origins of her injuries.”
“Mind if I take a look?” Runi asked, already pulling back the thin blanket they’d covered her with.
“By all means,” Tech nodded. “I am highly skilled in many areas, however my medical abilities are more oriented for the field.”
Runi nodded, and began her examination of the twi’lek. She requested a few things from Tech, scissors or more light and Echo found he couldn’t keep his eyes off of her. It had been a very long time since he’d watched her work, and he remembered the way she took care of his brothers; efficient, but never lacking kindness or sympathy. He was sure his face was pure sappiness; like a lovesick lurca hound. What he didn’t notice was that his twin bore the same expression.
This didn’t escape Crosshair’s notice however. He nudged Hunter, tilting his head towards the Domino twins.
Hunter scoffed. “Could they be any more obvious?”
“Probably,” Crosshair chuckled.
“Kriff,” Runi muttered, taking in the sight of the woman’s wounds. “What happened to this girl?”
“As previously stated, we are unsure,” Tech answered. “We only have the information Hunter and Wrecker provided.”
Runi glanced up at him, a bemused smirk on her lips.
“That was…rhetorical, wasn’t it?” Tech scowled.
“Yeah,” Runi nodded, though her grin grew a little wider.
She set to work with Tech’s assistance, suturing the wounds before wrapping them again.
It took a while, most of the squad leaving to sit elsewhere in the ship, but Echo and Fives stayed, both sitting on the floor against the wall, right next to Jaine’s cot.
They’d been talking quietly for a few minutes, Tech couldn't hear what about, but he could tell the conversation was tense. He could tell Runi knew it too.
“Are you… okay?” he asked after noticing her right hand shaking a little.
“Fine,” she answered tersely.
“I can ask them to leave.”
Runi sighed. “I’ve never met more stubborn troopers than those two.”
“You have not truly met my batchmates.”
That got a chuckle out of her. “You ever work with the 501st?” He nodded once. “That pack was full of them, right up to Rex at the top. Never met him myself, but I heard Skywalker was, too.”
“It would not surprise me to learn that you were quite busy during your time with them.”
She was quiet for a moment. “What do you think they’re talking about?”
Tech hesitated. “Would you… prefer my actual opinion… or a more optimistic version?”
Runi glanced up at him, her face a mixture of surprise and confusion. She chuckled a little. “Your opinion, please.”
Tech used his arm to push his goggles up. “I believe it is fairly obvious that they are talking about you. Given how tense they seem I think perhaps they have figured out that they are both in love with you and discussing where to go from there.”
Runi paused her work for a moment, fully stopping to look up at him. “You’re rather blunt, aren’t you?”
“So I’ve been told,” he agreed. “However, you did ask for my opinion.”
“I know that,” she scoffed, smirk returning to her face. “And I know we’ve technically met before, but Raze is just a code name. My real name is Runi.”
“I am aware,” he stated, continuing when she shot a confused glance at him. “Crosshair discerned your identity before you came here with Echo.”
She didn’t reply, simply nodding her head a little. Before long they had finished the sutures and began applying bacta to the remaining wounds on her abdomen and chest.
As Tech applied the last bit to the graze on her upper arm and shot just above it, Runi unwrapped her burnt hand. She gasped lightly.
“What is it?” Tech inquired.
“I-I’ve seen a lot of burns in my time, but never one like this.”
Tech scowled. He had looked at the burn himself - it was second degree on her palm, first degree surrounding it - and hadn’t noticed anything unusual about it. He moved to stand next to her.
“It’s almost like- like it’s still on fire,” she whispered, her hand seemingly moving towards Sinya’s of its own accord.
“Don’t,” Tech said suddenly.
Runi tensed, Sinya’s hand falling to the table with a dull thud, alerting both Fives and Echo, who jumped to their feet.
“Echo,” Tech hissed. “Her hand.”
Echo’s heart was pounding as he stepped forward to look at it.
“Do you see it?” Tech asked, his voice seemed different.
Nervous, Echo realized with a start. He looked at Sinya’s wrist, his heart jumping into his throat.
Faintly, around the edges of the worst part of the burns was a wisping red smoke.
“Jaine?” Echo breathed.
Tech nodded solemnly. “If Sinya was attacked by Jaine and ran until she bumped into Hunter and Wrecker-”
“She could be on Ord Mantell.”

It's Not Your Fault Ch. 2
Summary:
“If it was Omega, would you say it’s not a big deal?” Echo asks softly, shifting his weight. “If it was Crosshair, or me, or anyone else?” Hunter works his jaw, looking to the sleeping pair in annoyance. “I’m not Omega.” “No, you aren’t. You’re Hunter, our sergeant and our brother. We care about you, and we worry about you, the same way we all worry about each other.”
Notes: Progress is being made by all batchers!!
Warnings: Whump, trauma, major injuries, issues with eating, probably inaccurate medical discussions.
Rating/WC: T/4450 words
~~~
Tech is curled up again, tapping slowly at his datapad. Wrecker is still asleep, unmoving. He walks past both of them, striding over to Crosshair’s bed.
Cross looks up from Omega, watching Hunter. His mouth is set in a displeased frown; he isn’t buying the act either. “Sorry about that, Omega. I’m back now. Are you hungry?”
Omega pries her face away from Crosshair’s chest, looking up at him. She nods, wiggling her way out of Crosshair’s arms and taking his hand again.
“Hunter,” Cross drawls, right as Hunter is about to lead them out.
Hunter looks up, forcing a smile. “Did you need anything?”
Crosshair doesn’t respond for several seconds, before he sighs and stands. “I want to go too.”
Hunter blinks in surprise, but nods quickly. “Yeah-yeah, okay. Let’s go.”
Echo comes back in and sits at the chair beside Tech, watching the trio leave. Hunter pointedly ignores them both.
The mess hall on this ship is always half deserted, but never fully. Most of the people who use this rebel ship don’t use it as a home base, only as an HQ. It houses mostly rogue clones like Rex, refugees from the Empire that don’t have their own ships, and the occasional leaders of the rebellion who never want to stray too far from home base. Everyone else simply visits, or comes in for missions only.
Today, it is thankfully almost completely empty. There is a set of high ranking rebels discussing plans in low voices in the corner, and a few clones littered around which Hunter doesn’t recognize, all sitting by themselves. Perfect.
Hunter leads them to the mess line, using one hand to lead Omega and the other to scoop food onto his own and Omega’s trays. Crosshair follows silently, looking over his shoulder an almost worrying number of times. Hunter wonders if it’s simple paranoia, or if Crosshair is hearing something that isn’t real.
“Can you hold your own tray?” Hunter asks Omega softly, making sure his voice doesn’t carry. He can already feel curious eyes of the fellow clones watching over them, and he wants to minimize Omega and Crosshair’s discomfort as much as he can.
Omega nods, grabbing it. He balances his own tray and leads them to an empty table by a wall. He sits down with his back to the rest of the mess hall, allowing Cross to have the peace of mind that comes with a covered back. If anyone were to approach them, Hunter would hear it long before they got there.
They eat in silence for a long while, Omega’s left hand on his right elbow, moving with him every time he has to move his arm to get another bite. Which isn’t often; he’s more concerned with making sure she eats her own tray, and watching Crosshair out of the corner of his eye.
“Hunter,” Crosshair murmurs, voice low but on edge. “Is that person staring at us?”
Hunter looks up from Omega’s tray, looking around the room to find the person Cross is talking about. “Where do you see them? There’s no one looking at us.”
“Oh,” Crosshair says, and Hunter turns just in time to see him looking away from the entrance down at his plate.
“Do they look different?” Hunter asks, turning to encourage Omega to take another bite before looking back at Crosshair. “The people in your hallucinations?”
“No,” Cross answers shortly, stabbing another bite and chewing slowly as Hunter waits for elaboration. “If I could tell the difference, I wouldn’t have to ask, would I?”
Hunter chews on the inside of his cheek for a minute, doing his best to not show his annoyance. “They’ll go away eventually,” Hunter clips, turning his attention back to Omega. “Once all the drugs are out of your system completely and the detox stage is over.”
Omega puts her fork down, looking up at Hunter and then to his tray.
“How much longer will they last, medic Hunter?” Crosshair drawls, sarcasm dripping from every word. “It’s already been a week.”
“I don’t know,” Hunter says, scooping some food onto his own fork and letting it hover just above his tray. “The actual medic said it can take a few weeks or even a month to completely detox, due to the levels of the drug in your system. It was a lot.”
Omega taps his wrist, and Hunter sighs and forces the bite into his mouth. He puts his fork down, trying to chew through the nausea and not let it get to him. It’s just food, his body is made to consume it; why can’t he just eat it like he used to?
“So I could still have another two or three weeks of this?” Crosshair hisses, gripping his own fork hard enough it turns white.
“Yes,” Hunter says, because Echo is the optimistic one and if Crosshair wanted optimism he would have eaten in the medbay like he usually does. “But they’ll get easier to handle and further apart in appearance every day.”
Cross slams his fork on the table with a bang, and Omega whimpers and throws herself into Hunter’s side. Hunter just wraps an arm around her, pulling her closer and trying to make her feel as safe as possible. “Sorry, Omega, I didn’t mean to scare you,” Cross murmurs, looking down in shame and wrapping his arms around himself.
“I think it might be time to head back anyway,” Hunter says softly, petting Omega's hair to coax her out of his side. “It’s okay Omega, it was just Crosshair. Nothing scary. Nothing is going to hurt you.”
“You haven’t eaten much,” Crosshair says, looking between Omega and Hunter’s tray.
“Not hungry,” Hunter replies without thought, smiling when Omega pulls her face away to look up at Hunter. “There you are. Ready to go back to the room?”
Omega nods, looking around to reassure herself where she is before grabbing onto Hunter’s hand.
“Do you ever eat?” Crosshair asks, narrowing his eyes. “Because you don’t eat with us in the medbay. When you take Omega here do you just watch her eat and then take her back?”
Hunter shoots him a look, before helping Omega stand. He stacks their trays so he can carry it on one hand, and stands up himself. “I’m not hungry right now, Crosshair, just drop it.”
Crosshair takes the trays from him, glaring at him as he pushes past to walk in front. Instead of taking it to the trash like Hunter was going to, he simply walks out of the room and starts heading towards the medbay.
Hunter sighs, looking down at Omega with a tired smile. “Do you want to go see Tech and Echo, or go to our quarters to take a nap?”
He had hoped the question would encourage her to speak, but she simply shrugs and holds his hand in a death grip.
“Okay. Let’s go check on the boys first, at least.” Hunter leads the way, and the walk there is uneventful. There aren’t many people milling about, and there are no loud and sudden noises.
He opens the door to the medbay and frowns when he sees Echo and Crossair whispering in the far corner, Crosshair gesturing with the tray of food every once and a while. “Everything alright?” he calls, just loud enough to be heard but not so loud it scares Omega.
Echo looks over, a deep and disapproving frown in place. He walks over and smiles down at Omega, patting her head softly. “You look tired, Omega. Why don’t you curl up with Crosshair and help the both of you get a couple hours of sleep?”
Omega’s heart starts to quicken, and she looks to Hunter with wide eyes.
“I’ll be here,” he promises, squeezing her hand. “All of us will be right here.”
Omega clings to his arm, biting her lip as she looks between Crosshair and Echo.
“It’s okay, Omega. Hunter will stay here the whole time and none of us will let anything happen to you. I promise.” Echo brushes some hair behind her ear, and Omega leans into the touch.
Crosshair has put the tray down and crawled into the medical cot, settling down for a nap he probably won’t take if Omega isn’t there with him.
Omega takes a deep breath, and slowly lets go of Hunter’s hand. She looks up at him, and Hunter smiles reassuringly at her. “I won’t leave the room, I promise.”
Omega nods slowly, and then quickly makes her way across the room. Crosshair lifts the blanket and she dives in, cuddling into his side and turning to face Hunter and Echo. Crosshair puts a protective arm over her, and closes his eyes to either pretend or actually try to fall asleep.
Echo waits for Omega’s eyes to shut and her yawning to stop, before turning to Hunter. “Have you not been eating?”
Hunter sighs in annoyance. “I have been eating, just not a lot all at once. Look, I’m sorry I blew up at you guys earlier; you don’t have to start keeping tabs on me and worrying. You all have enough to worry about as it is.”
Echo frowns deeply, crossing his arms over his chest. “Hunter, we all take care of each other. It’s not your job alone to take care of us, and it isn’t your job to neglect yourself.”
“I’m fine!” Hunter hisses, careful to keep his voice low enough the others won’t hear. “I’m not hurt; I didn’t get blown up, I didn’t get shot, I didn’t break my back or hit my head, I wasn’t tortured. Nothing happened to me, I’m fine.”
“You have survivor's guilt,” Echo argues, and holds his hand up when Hunter starts to argue. “No, don’t. You know what I mean. You’re punishing yourself and blaming yourself because you didn’t get injured when the rest of us did. And that makes you feel guilty, so you’re torturing yourself and hurting yourself to ‘make up for it’.” He uses air quotes on the last part, and Hunter scowls at him. “It isn’t your fault you didn’t get hurt, and it isn’t your fault we did. It’s not your fault. You have to stop blaming yourself, to stop hurting yourself, if you really want to help us.”
Hunter shakes his head. “I’m not hurting myself, Echo. I just wasn’t hungry. It happens from time to time. You’re both blowing this way out of proportion.”
“Crosshair said that the only time you took a bite was when Omega encouraged you to,” Echo argues.
“Because I’m not hungry,” Hunter says, feeling so very tired suddenly. “It’s not deep, there’s no hidden cry for help in it. I’m just not hungry. I eat when I’m hungry, I promise.”
“Why aren’t you hungry?” Echo challenges. “Are you getting sick?”
“No, I’m just-” Hunter sighs, rubbing a hand over his face. “I don’t know why. Sometimes when I eat I’m fine, I finish a whole plate. Sometimes I’m only hungry enough for half, sometimes less. Sometimes I get nauseous when I’m eating so I don’t eat more than a couple bites. It’s not a big deal, it only happens every once and a while.”
“If it was Omega, would you say it’s not a big deal?” Echo asks softly, shifting his weight. “If it was Crosshair, or me, or anyone else. Would you still say it’s not a big deal if Omega was skipping meals or only eating half?”
Hunter works his jaw, looking to the sleeping pair in annoyance. “I’m not Omega.”
“No, you aren’t. You’re Hunter, our sergeant and our brother. We care about you, and we worry about you, the same way we all worry about each other.”
Hunter rubs at his temple, wishing he had some caf right now. A nap doesn’t sound all that bad, if he’s being honest. If he could close his eyes without seeing everything he’s trying to escape. “You don’t need to worry about me, Echo. I’m fine, I just-”
Echo suddenly moves to stand in front of Hunter’s line of sight, and he looks angrier than Hunter has seen from him in a very long time. “Hunter, how are you supposed to protect us if you’re half dead?”
Hunter’s eyes widen, and he staggers a step backwards. “Echo-”
“No, tell me. If Omega is in danger, how are you going to save her if you’re weak from exhaustion and hunger? How are you going to tell Crosshair his hallucinations aren’t real if you can’t keep your eyes open long enough to tell? How are you going to help with Tech’s physical therapy if you aren’t strong enough to hold his weight?” Echo steps closer, and Hunter feels like an animal being hunted. “Tell me, Hunter. How is you killing yourself going to help you do your job? How will that benefit us?”
Hunter turns away from Echo, from his accusatory stare, breathing heavily as he glares at the floor. “I’m fine.”
“For now,” Echo says, letting Hunter have that. “What about in a week from now? Two? What about a month from now, when you haven’t eaten or slept or worked out or done anything except look after us? You wanna know what you’ll look like? Just look at Crosshair.”
Hunter balls his hands into fists, feeling the nausea return. “Kark off.”
Echo scoffs, placing his hand on Hunter’s shoulder. “You’re only saying that because you know I’m right. You’ll be too weak to protect us soon, you’re working yourself down to the bone. You have to take care of yourself if you want to keep protecting us long term.”
Hunter finally turns back to Echo, his whole body shaking. He’s almost at another breakdown, he can feel it. And he doesn’t want to do that to any of them again. “What if something happens when I’m asleep? What if I go take a shower, and she needs me?”
Echo finally gives him a sad smile, his anger seeming to drain away. “Then we can take care of it. You’ll be down the hall, not across the galaxy. If we need you, you’ll be a few seconds away. Isn’t a few hours where you’re asleep better than you being awake but too exhausted to do anything?”
Hunter looks to Omega and Crosshair over Echo’s shoulder, sighing deeply. “I don’t…”
“You’re worrying her,” Echo says softly, making Hunter look at him. “She knows you aren’t okay, and it’s giving her unnecessary anxiety. Us, too, you know. You’re stressing me out.” Hunter flinches away from the accusation, looking down in guilt. “All you have to do is take care of yourself too, and that’ll stop. It’ll help all of us get better.”
Hunter runs a hand over his face, and finally nods. “Okay. Okay, yeah. I get it now.”
Echo smiles, clapping Hunter’s shoulder gently. He politely doesn’t say about time or point out how many ways he had to say it before Hunter accepted it. “Good. So you’ll take care of yourself?”
Hunter nods, wrapping his arms over his chest and sniffing once. “When she wakes up, I’ll let you and Cross distract her for a while so I can shower. I’ll grab something to eat and then I’ll-I’ll figure out how to sleep. Maybe we can all stay in here together and…I dunno. I’ll figure it out.”
“I’ll get some sleep after your shower, and when it’s your turn, I’ll keep Omega in here and you can sleep in the room. Away from the beeping and potential of being woken up by nightmares. I’ll watch her the whole time.”
“I don’t know if she’ll be able to sleep without me beside her,” Hunter mumbles. “She can barely exist without holding onto me.”
“She’s going to have to learn how eventually, Hunter. If she’s going to recover from what she’s been through, she’s going to have to do some difficult and scary things sometimes. But we’ll be here to help her through them, and she will get better.” Echo squeezes Hunter’s shoulder, before dropping his hand. “Your tray is still over there, if you want to try and finish it now. Then you can shower when she wakes up and I can get my own sleep in.”
Hunter sighs, looking at the tray. “I wasn’t putting on a brave face when it comes to that, I really don’t feel hungry.”
“Eat anyway,” Echo shrugs.
Hunter sighs and goes over to the tray, forcing himself to swallow every last bite. It tastes like shit, and he has to fight the urge to throw it all back up, but he gets through it.
It’s only a few minutes after he finishes eating that Omega’s eyes blink open. She finds Hunter quickly, and seems to relax immediately.
“Hey, kid,” he murmurs softly, not wanting to wake up Crosshair if he’s actually asleep. “How ya feeling?”
She nods and sleepily gives him a thumbs up.
“I finished my breakfast while you were asleep,” he tells her, pointing to his empty tray. She smiles at him, seemingly genuinely happy that he’s eaten. “When Cross wakes up, I…”
Echo comes over, having seen that she woke up too. “Me and Cross are gonna stay with you in here, with Tech and Wrecker, and Hunter is gonna take a quick shower, okay?” Omega’s eyes widen, and her breath starts to come quicker. “‘Cause he stinks really bad, doesn’t he?”
It startles a laugh out of her, and she looks to Crosshair to make sure she didn’t wake him up. But she laughed. She laughed, and Hunter was starting to wonder if she ever would again, but she did. She laughed. At his expense, sure, but he doesn’t even care.
Echo grins at her, taking her hand and squeezing it gently. “And if that goes well, and you’re not scared, we might even let Hunter take his own little nap later in our room, while you sleep in here with us. You can even pick who you bunk up with, yeah? You could try to sleep in Crosshair’s cot again, or you could try in my cot over there. Just to try it out, ‘cause I wasn’t there either, right? So if you wake up, you’ll see me, and you can still know that you’re safe.”
Omega worries her lip between her teeth, looking between Hunter and Echo. “‘Cause Hunter can’t sleep when I’m there?” she asks softly.
“No,” Hunter denies immediately, but Echo holds up his hand to stop Hunter.
“He struggles to sleep, because he wants to make sure you’re okay and you don’t need him. I think that if he knew you were taken care of, and that me and Cross were here to help if you needed anything, he could sleep a bit easier. He’s just overprotective, is all. It’s not because you’re there.”
Omega swallows thickly, but nods slowly. “Will you take me back to him if I…”
Echo nods quickly. “We’ll go peek in on him as many times as you want. But hopefully you won’t need to, ‘cause you’ll be asleep.”
Omega nods again, looking to Crosshair’s face again before looking back at Hunter. “You can go shower now, if you want,” she says, and then her heart speeds up and she grips the blanket over them tightly. “But-but a fast one, please.”
Hunter smiles at her, putting his hand over hers. “You won’t even miss me, that’s how fast I’ll be,” he promises.
Echo nods to Hunter, and grabs a stool to sit next to their bed. “Thank you, Hunter,” he whispers, and pats Hunter’s arm as he stands.
“I’ll be back soon,” he promises, patting Echo’s shoulder and heading towards the ‘fresher.
~
Hunter had trouble after the shower, feeling his exhaustion hit him in full force. He ate half of lunch and all of his dinner, keeping Omega awake and mostly entertained with the help of Crosshair. That part wasn’t hard; the hard part was taking care of Tech without the help of Echo.
Tech doesn’t blame Echo, he doesn’t get annoyed with everything Echo does. He doesn’t fight being fed by Echo like he does with Hunter. He lets Echo sit next to him and even hold his hand, he doesn’t push Echo away and ignore him in favor of his datapad.
Crosshair took pity on him at some point, telling Hunter that he was having trouble with hearing things and wanted help. When Hunter had gotten over there, he whispered to Hunter that he would watch Tech and if he needed something he'd just let Hunter know.
But finally, Echo wakes up and comes back, checking on Tech for a few minutes before walking over to where Hunter and Omega and Cross are. “Hey, guys,” he says softly.
Hunter smiles at him and nods. “Echo. Did you get enough sleep?”
“Yeah,” he says, smiling back. “Everything okay in here?”
“Tech’s eaten, Wrecker hasn’t changed, me and Cross and Omega ate in the mess. Everything is going fine, all things considered.” Hunter stands up and stretches, looking back at Omega sleepily. “Are you sure you’re willing to try this, Omega?”
Omega bites her lip and looks between him and Echo, who’s nodding at her encouragingly. She looks very nervous, but she finally nods and looks back to Hunter. “I can try. And-and I can come get you if I-”
“Of course,” Hunter is quick to reassure, putting a hand on her shoulder. “You can get me as soon as you need me, okay? I’ll be a minute away the whole time.”
“But we won’t need you,” Echo promises, squeezing Hunter’s shoulder. “Because Omega is going to do great, and she’ll fall asleep quick and she won’t even notice you aren’t here.”
Hunter smiles at them both, and then sighs softly. “Okay. Can you go check on Tech, and I’ll say goodnight?” Echo nods, shooting Omega one more reassuring smile. Hunter turns back to Omega. “He’s right, you know. Crosshair will be here the whole time, and so will Echo and Tech.” And Wrecker, but he doesn’t feel like pointing that out will help. “I promise, you’ll be just fine.”
Omega sniffles but nods, crawling into Crosshair’s arms who had been watching silently. “Sleep well, Hunter,” she whispers softly.
“You too, Omega. Night, Cross,” he says, nodding to him.
“Goodnight, Hunter,” Crosshair mumbles.
Hunter turns and checks on Wrecker once more, making sure he’s still out and stable. He sighs and starts to head to the door.
“Hunter?” Echo asks, and Hunter turns to him where he’s looking after Tech. “Can you come here a second?”
Hunter hesitates, but nods and detours to Tech’s bed. “What’s up?”
Echo looks to Tech, nodding at him encouragingly. Tech sighs and holds out his datapad, looking at Hunter expectantly. “He’s been working on this all day. He wants you to read it before you go to bed, but not in here.”
“Hm,” Hunter says, looking down at it. It’s still hovering over the instructions he gave Echo. “Okay,” he says, rubbing his thumb along the side of the device. He looks back up, smiling sadly at Tech. “I’ll read it.”
Tech nods once, before looking to Echo and signing get down to indicate he’s ready to lay down and sleep.
Hunter nods to them both and starts off towards their private quarters. He sits on his bed after locking the door, staring at the datapad without scrolling through it. He doesn’t know if he wants to read it, doesn’t know if he can handle it tonight. He’s so tired.
But he said he would, so he sighs and rubs a hand over his face before scrolling past the instructions.
I am very angry with you, Hunter.
Hunter lets out a heavy sigh, closing his eyes. He wants to say that’s enough for tonight, but he said he would. He said he would. Okay.
I am very angry with you, Hunter. I could not figure out why I was so angry at first. It has taken a lot of thinking and self reflection. Luckily, this past week has given me nothing but time to think and self reflect. (That was mostly a joke). At first, I thought I was angry at you because I blamed you for what happened to me. But I do not, and have never, blamed you for what happened. I made a calculated decision based on the information I had at the time, and given the chance to go back to that exact moment and try again, I would choose to do the same thing. Therefore, you cannot be blamed.
Then I began to wonder if I was mad at you despite this realization. I came to my conclusion earlier today when you looked at me the way you had been while doing my tests. Yes, I was still angry with you, and the feeling was very intense.
When Crosshair brought up that you have not been taking care of yourself, and you yelled at him about how everything was your fault, I finally figured it out. I am angry with you because I am angry that you blame yourself so thoroughly. We are a team, and we are all equals. You have said so, many times before. So why are you keeping all the blame for yourself when we all made our own decisions? I chose to shoot the car. Crosshair chose to warn us instead of fleeing and saving himself. You and Echo and Wrecker all chose to come back and save us, no matter the potential consequences, such as getting hurt. We made our own decisions, you did not make them for us.
Echo has told me what happened with Omega, as well. And even her capture was a result of her own decisions; her decision to leave the room you hid her inside and try and rescue you. That was her choice, and her consequences. If she had done what you told her to do, she would not have been captured.
You blaming yourself is what makes me so angry. If you put half as much effort into helping us recover as you did in feeling guilty, we would all be cured by now.
Take a nap and reread this if you need to. But stop spending so much time blaming yourself for the past and spend more time on helping us all get to the future.
Hunter has to reread it three times before he’s sure he’s read it right. Then he puts it down and lays down, staring up at the ceiling. He decides to take Tech’s advice-he’ll take a nap, and then think about it again when he wakes up.
Senate Party - Hunter Ending
Link to Part 1
You let out a frustrated breath as you grabbed the soft fabric of the next dress. None of the others had felt right and you really didn’t want to go on the hunt again.
Fortunately, this dress was probably your favorite and not just because of it’s luxuriously soft fabric. The color was your favorite and as you put it on you took note of how it came in at your most flattering point. The top half was elegant and the bottom flowed nicely, allowing you room to walk.
The dress felt so natural and soft against your skin. Somehow it felt like being wrapped in a soft blanket while still letting your skin breathe. It was damn near perfect.
You stepped out of the dressing room, feeling confident.
-------
Hunter tried to hide how much he enjoyed seeing you in these dresses. It was an interesting change of pace and he could look at you without the worry of awkwardly getting caught.
But he was sure anyone could see how he sat up straighter when you came out in your latest dress.
You looked wonderful in all the dresses you’d tried on, but this one, Maker, this one really looked wonderful on you. It fell elegantly across your body, accenting your figure. If there was any doubt, the smile on your face really sealed the deal on this dress for him.
“You look beautiful.” The words came without his permission and he immediately began to stutter, “I-I mean it looks like you really like this one.”
“Smooth.” Crosshair said under his breath. Fortunately, Hunter didn’t think you noticed.
“Thanks, Hunter.” You looked at yourself in the mirror, giving the dress one last nod of approval, “I think we’re finished here!”
There was a cheer from the squad and you went back to the dressing room to change back into your regular armor. Hunter took a moment to shake his head, trying to refocus.\
-------
The next day you were all back on the Marauder waiting for Crosshair and Echo to come back with the clothes. The suits all needed some tailoring.
Hunter was playing Dejarik with Omega. This game was always intense with her, though he never won. Tech and maybe Echo were the only ones who truly stood a chance.
“You really need to tell her you like her,” Omega said, destroying another one of his pieces.
“Who says I like her?” Hunter asked. He moved another piece forward.
“Hunter, it’s pretty obvious.” She said, “I’m surprised y/n hasn’t figured it out yet.”
“What makes you think she’d like me anyway?”
“Oh come on.” Omega sighed, “Have you been paying attention?”
“Omega, look…I’m not good at this.”
She looked at him sympathetically, “This is a perfect opportunity Hunter! You can pair up for the party tonight.”
Hunter paused at the thought, maybe Omega was right. It was time for him to do something about his crush on you.
“I win!” Omega cheered, pulling him from his thoughts just in time for Crosshair and Echo to come aboard with everyone’s outfits.
Omega jumped up from her seat. Crosshair and Echo laid out the garment bags carefully.
“No issues then?” Hunter asked, eying the bag with your dress in it.
“It’s a miracle.” Crosshair said, taking a seat at the front of the ship. Echo did the same, sitting down across from Hunter.
They’d be taking everything over to a hotel in civilian clothes later, partly to avoid suspicion and partly because you didn’t want to leave all of your armor in a random hotel room.
Speaking of, you came out from the back of the marauder, likely having heard Echo and Crosshair return.
“That was quick.” You smiled. You’d already changed into civilian clothes while they were out.
Hunter watched as you picked up your and Omega’s bags.
“I’m going to hang these up.” You said, “Sometimes the bags make the bottoms of dresses wrinkle.”
“Ah, before you go,” Hunter called and you turned to face him, “We should go over assignments. We’ll be arriving at different times.”
“I want to go with Wrecker!” Omega said quickly. Hunter raised an eyebrow at her. He knew her game.
“That’s fine, Omega.” He said, “I don’t think Wrecker will mind.”
“What won’t I mind?” Wrecker asked. He and Tech we’re coming up from the hold.
“Omega said she’d like to pair up with you tonight.”
“All right!” Wrecker smiled, giving Omega a small high five.
Hunter shook his head and smiled.
“You two will arrive with Echo.” Hunter said, “But Echo can split off once you arrive.”
They all nodded. Hunter took a mental note to ask Echo to keep an eye on Wrecker and Omega and to remind the latter two that this was a mission first and foremost.
“Crosshair and Tech can take the first cab out, it’ll give Tech more time to tap into security. I’ll go with y/n.”
There was a quick beat of silence that put Hunter on edge, but no one seemed to have any objections.
“That all sounds good to me.” You smiled, “How long till we leave, Tech?”
“3 hours and 27 minutes.”
-------
Hunter looked himself over in the hotel mirror. His suit wasn’t flashy, just a few accents of color on the inside lining. His shirt, however, was entirely the same color as your dress. He realized that his outfit matched your dress a while ago, but he hadn’t noticed the accessories you’d slipped into his bag. You’d found a headpiece for him that would keep his hair out of his eyes, but matched the occasion much better than a bandanna. It also matched the cuffs you’d found for him.
It was so thoughtful. You were always thinking of little things like this. It was one of the reasons he loved you.
He froze.
He did love you; it was the first time he’d admitted it to himself.
“Something wrong?” Echo asked. He’d finished getting ready too.
“It’s nothing,” Hunter said, “Just an unusual mission.”
“I get that.” Echo smiled.
They made their way to the elevator and out into the lobby. Wrecker, Crosshair, and Tech were waiting.
“Looking good, boys.” Wrecker smiled at their approach.
“We’re just waiting on y/n and Omega. Though we still have plenty of time.” Tech was again wrapped up in his holopad. Hunter just nodded in response.
Soon enough Omega came running up to them. She looked so excited and Hunter couldn’t help but smile at her enthusiasm. You’d found accessories for her, too.
“How do I look?” Omega asked, twisting a bit to show off the skirt of her dress.
“Great.” Hunter smiled, “Where’s y/n?”
“I’m here, I just didn’t want to run.”
Hunter looked up at your voice and suddenly all he could process was you. You were walking towards them gracefully, the fabric of your dress flowing gently as you did so. It truly accented your figure perfectly. He rarely saw you in makeup, as it was impractical for your daily routine, so the makeup you had on now was a change. It made the occasion feel special. He also took notice of your styled hair and the clicking of your shoes on the lobby tile. You had some jewelry on that accented it all wonderfully. You looked happy and he hoped you felt beautiful.
Because you were the most beautiful creature in the galaxy to him.
Echo nudged him a bit and Hunter suddenly realized that everyone was waiting for him to give a final rundown of the mission, which he did quickly.
“Remember to comm in when you arrive and if you find the target. It’s unlikely all of us will need to pursue one man, hence why we’re in teams.”
Everyone nodded and began to split into their assigned teams. Tech and Crosshair left immediately. You leaned down to Omega and he heard you whisper to her.
“Try to keep Wrecker in check.”
Omega giggled at that. Hunter smiled a bit too. It was good for Omega to have you around, especially on a mission like this.
Then you stood and the two of you waved goodbye to the rest of the squad and made your way to a waiting cab.
---------
As you stepped out of the cab, Hunter realized that you hadn’t worn any perfume. Many of the other attendants were covered in smells that assaulted his senses.
In the cab he’d only noticed the gentle scent of whatever was in your hair. Did you avoid perfume on purpose because of him? Or was it just a coincidence?
Either way, he tried to push the wall of fragrance out of his mind and refocus as you were let in. The hall was massive and he could hear people making idle chatter. There was a band just beginning their set, though plenty of people were already dancing. Food was being served, and there looked to be an art gallery under the large stairs. The upper floors likely held some other form of entertainment, perhaps a bar.
“Bigger than I thought.” You said. He noticed you step a bit closer to him and he grew brave. He’d already partnered you two up, no sense in wasting it now.
“Me too, perhaps we should stick closer together.” He offered you his arm, “We sort of look like a couple anyway.”
---------
Your heart was racing. It had been since Hunter paired you two together. You were excited at the chance for some time alone with him, but also worried about overstepping bounds.
Suddenly you heard Omega’s giggle in your mind. You’d told her you were overthinking being his partner for the night.
But now he was offering his arm to you.
You took it, though you hoped you didn’t appear too enthusiastic. Thoughts spun around in your head. You had to say something.
“I guess we do.” You said, “These things can be overwhelming.”
He hummed in agreement and you continued into the crowd. You kept thinking about the turn in events while attempting to look for the target. Though your focus wasn’t helped by having your arms intertwined. You could feel Hunter’s muscles under his suit.
The others commed in as they arrived, you even caught eyes with Crosshair who smirked a bit when he saw how close you and Hunter were. You’d looked away quickly.
Hunter did look quite handsome in this outfit. You’d always enjoyed his rugged look, but this was special. He cleaned up quite nicely.
The two of you chose to wander near the dancefloor, listening for any interesting conversation while scanning the large ballroom.
“Good thing we split up.” You said, “It’s a large crowd.”
“Yeah, luckily we know who to look for.” Hunter was scanning the room intensely. You tried not to stare at him.
Suddenly he tensed up and you followed his gaze. That was the target, chatting politely with two senators.
“Target spotted.” He said quietly into his comm. He covered the movement by brushing aside his hair.
“What is the location?” Tech asked.
You adjusted your grip on Hunter’s arm, leaning into him to hide your hand touching your own ear.
“Near the buffet.” You said, “We’re a bit far off. Is anyone closer?”
“We’re over here.” Echo chimed in and you saw him sitting at a table nearby with Omega and Wrecker at the table next to him. “I can pursue, Omega and Wrecker can follow as backup.”
“Be careful.” Hunter said. You smiled a bit at his protectiveness.
“We’ll comm if anything happens.” Omega said.
And then the line went silent again. You noticed Hunter sigh, relaxing a bit. He rubbed his head.
---------
With the target now found and half of the squad handling it, Hunter finally found it in him to relax a bit. The party really was taking a toll on his heightened senses and without a target to focus on it all hit him at once.
“You know, we could go out to the balcony.” You said, leaning back away from his arm, “It’ll be quieter out there, more fresh air.”
You’d noticed. Again he was reminded of how thoughtful you were.
“I’d like that.” He sighed. There was no need to put on a brave face with you.
Together you made your way to the balcony, both of you leaning a bit on the railing and taking in the night air. You were right, it was better out here.
“Hunter…” You asked, “I need to ask you something.”
“What is it?”
“Did you…Did you assign me to be your partner for any particular reason?”
He paused at that. Taking just a bit too long to answer as the possibilities ran through his mind.
“Why do you ask?”
You pursed your lips. He didn’t know if that was a bad sign or if you were just thinking.
“I’m probably overthinking things,” You said finally, “But I really like you and I’m starting to think you might like me too?”
Hunter looked at you with wide eyes. He was worried about this entire evening, but he never imagined it would lead to you confessing to him.
“I more than like you.” He hesitantly put his hand over yours on the railing, “You’re wonderful, attentive, so strong in the field, yet so kind to us all.”
For a moment he was worried that you might cry, but you pressed into him. He hugged you back quickly, the subtle scent of your hair brushing him again as he rested his head on yours. The overstimulation of the evening was wearing off as he focused on you.
“Your dress is soft.” He noted, feeling the fabric under his hands. Your warmth was welcome against the cool night breeze.
“Part of why I got it.”
You looked up at him again and he could swear you had the entire galaxy in your eyes. He leaned down and kissed you gently.
His galaxy was in his arms.
“You would think the holonet would have more information on things you should avoid,” Tech grumbled as he scrolled through the limited results his datapad had given him. “It is essential for people to know these things.”
“Most people probably just stay away from the jungle,” Hunter offered, twirling his knife in a circle.
“Can’t say I’m too fond of them myself,” Crosshair said, not looking up from his rifle cleaning project. “Hard to get a good vantage point with all the vines hanging in the way.”
“Especially when you’re hanging from them!” Wrecker shouted from the back of the Marauder.
Crosshair shot a glare towards his larger brother before focusing on his rifle again. Tech threw his datapad onto the co-pilot set in disgust before turning to the control panel in front of him. They were nearly to Coruscant after spending many hours in hyperspace. He needed to get access to a place that would have information on the plant life he was researching. Surely there would be somewhere on Coruscant that would hold the knowledge, or at least someone that could point him in the right direction.
Just as they exited hyperspace, the indicator light on the control panel lit up, telling them they had a message. Tech pressed the button to acknowledge it, starting a hologram of Commander Cody. Hunter sheathed his knife and walked to the front of the cockpit.
“What can we do for you, Commander?” he asked.
“I was calling to let you know that your mission details have been finalized and to see what your ETA was.”
“We have just arrived in the space above Coruscant,” Tech said. “We will begin our landing as soon as we are given clearance.”
“I guess I’ll see you when you arrive then,” Cody said. “See you soon boys.”
The transmission cut off and was replaced by the call for landing clearance from one of the towers near the military port. Tech entered the correct code and then followed the directions he was given to an open hangar. Once the landing cycle was complete, he shut everything down and gathered his datapad off the seat, placing it back in its correct location in his pack.
“Maybe Cody can tell you where to look for that information you need,” Hunter suggested. “We aren’t supposed to leave for our mission until tomorrow, so I’m sure you’ll have time to find it.”
Tech made a humming sound and adjusted his goggles.
“It’s not likely that Cody would know where to find it, but I’ll ask anyway.”
The four of them descended the ramp from the ship and made their way across the hangar. Cody would be waiting for them in the briefing room he had sent his transmission from. When they arrived, they found not only Cody waiting for them, but also General Kenobi.
“Gentlemen,” the Jedi said in greeting. “It’s been a while.
“General,” Hunter said, bowing his head respectfully. “Always a pleasure.”
“Speak for yourself,” Tech heard Crosshair mutter quietly behind him.
Tech glanced over his shoulder, giving Crosshair a warning look. Ever since their mission with General Orim and their chance encounter with her afterwards, Crosshair had been sour towards General Kenobi. He hadn’t offered any explanation other than “I don’t have a good feeling about him”. Tech had a feeling it had to do with how upset Lena had seemed in the hallway that day. She seemed to be the main thing on his brother’s mind as of late.
Crosshair being smitten was unexpected, and his bitterness towards Kenobi even more so.
Tech shook his head in annoyance and focused his attention back on Cody and Kenobi. They were talking to Hunter about the mission they had just completed.
“You won’t be leaving for your next mission until the day after tomorrow. I trust you got the mission brief I sent you?” Cody asked.
Teche grabbed his datapad and held it up, indicating that he had the information.
“There are a few things that will require some research before we depart,” he said. “I understand there is some flora that would be best to avoid, but I could not find sufficient information on it on the holonet.”
Kenobi rubbed his hand over his beard, as if he was thinking deeply about what Tech had said. “There is a rather extensive research division into plantlife at the Jedi temple that may have the information you require,” he said. “I can grant you access to the Temple so you can consult with them.”
Tech was surprised and excited by the General’s offer. Having access to the vast stores of knowledge within the Jedi temple was something that he longed for. There were things compiled there that not even the greatest academies in the galaxy had access to.
“I would greatly appreciate it, General.”
“I will give Cody the clearance codes and have him pass them along to you,” Kenobi said. “I will leave you gentlemen to the rest of your briefing.”
With a final goodbye to the Commander, General Kenobi left the briefing room. Cody turned his full attention to the men before him.
“Since Tech already has the mission brief, I’ll only summarize and add the things that have been added since it was issued. Then, you are free to go until your departure time. Hopefully, you’ll be able to have some fun while you’re here on Coruscant.”
Tech knew that he would enjoy himself at the Temple and he had no doubts his brothers would take the time to visit 79’s for some drinks.
Tumblr media
Later in the afternoon, Tech was ready to head for the Jedi temple. Cody had given him the necessary clearance codes and had made a list of things that he intended to research. As he exited the cockpit and headed for the ramp, Wrecker called out his name.
“Where you goin’? Aren’t you gonna come to 79’s with us?” he asked.
“First of all, it’s the middle of the afternoon. A bit early to be going to a bar. Secondly, as much as I’d love to spend time dragging you back home after you’ve had entirely too much to drink, I have more important things to do.”
“Like what?”
“He’s got research to do, remember?” Hunter cut in.
“Boring!” Wrecker shouted before returning to lifting their helpless GNK droid onto his arm.
Tech rolled his eyes and descended the ramp, Hunter following close behind. Crosshair stood outside, leaning against the side of the Marauder.
“Off on your plant mission?” he asked.
“Unless you would like to be digested by an unknown plant rather than just hanging from one like last time, it is vital that I know what we’re getting into.”
“It’s not my fault I fell into the vines,” Crosshair said, pointing his toothpick at Tech. “The tree branch already wasn’t stable before the herd of whatevers stampeded by.”
“Keep telling yourself that, Cross,” Hunter said before patting Tech on the shoulder. “Enjoy yourself, but don’t get buried too deep. We might need you later.”
“Do try to keep Wrecker from getting into another drinking match with any regs. I know he can drink a lot, but he can still get hungover.”
Hunter let out a soft laugh and shrugged.
“I’ll try my best, but you know what he’s like.”
Tech shook his head as he thought of the mess that he would likely have to deal with in the morning. He walked away from his brothers in the direction of the speeder bikes at the edge of the hangar, stopping when he heard Crosshair call his name. He looked up and saw him walking towards him, looking over his shoulder at Hunter as if to see if he could hear him or not.
“If you see Lena…” he started.
“If I happened to run into a specific Jedi in a giant building full of them, I will be sure to tell her you said hello. The chances of that happening are low, but I will keep it in mind.”
Crosshair scowled at him for a few seconds before turning around and heading back to the Marauder.
He could at least say thank you.
Tech climbed on the speeder bike and started in the direction of the temple, following the instructions he was given to the hangar when he arrived. He proved his clearance codes and flew into an empty spot. As he turned off the bike, his attention was grabbed by the presence of a person he knew across the room.
Apparently the cosmic forces of the universe are aiming to prove me wrong.
Despite only knowing her for a short time, he would recognize the long, orange, striped lekku of Lena’s padawan, Keebo, anywhere. He crossed the hangar in her direction, calling out her name as he approached. She turned at the sound of his voice and gave him a wide smile.
“Tech? What are you doing here?” she asked.
“General Kenobi gave me permission to come speak with the members of the research division about plant life from a planet we are heading to.”
“Oh! I can take you to where you need to go!” she said, gesturing for him to follow her.
Tech and Keebo walked together down the hall, passing many Jedi. Some of them gave him strange looks as he passed, while others simply smiled or bowed their heads in greeting. Keebo talked to him as they walked, asking after the well-being of his brothers and if they had been on any interesting missions lately.
Tech was pleased that someone actually wanted to talk to him for longer than a minute and listened to him when he spoke. Keebo had been kind to him before, but it was still nice to experience. He could understand why the 394th valued their Jedi COs.
Eventually, they came to a door that consisted mostly of a frosted window. He could see quite a bit of light coming through, which led him to believe they had reached a greenhouse of sorts. Keebo turned to look at him, gesturing toward the door.
“This is where most of the plant study happens. I’m not sure who’s around right now, as things have been a little mixed up with the war, but I’m sure whoever is here would be happy to help you.”
“Thank you, Commander.”
Keebo gave him another wide smile and turned to walk away.
“It was good to see you, Tech!”
Tech turned to face the door, but suddenly remembered his other mission. He quickly turned around again and called out to Keebo. She paused, giving him a questioning head tilt.
“When you see your master, could you pass along a message?”
Keebo smirked at him in response.
“Let me guess, Crosshair says hello?”
Tech felt his eyes widen. He cleared his throat before speaking again.
“How did you know what I was going to say?”
“Lucky guess. I’ll pass along the message,” she said. “I hope you find what you’re looking for in there!”
Tech watched as she walked away, her long lekku swaying behind her. He wondered if she had read his mind and known what he was going to say or if his brother’s infatuation with her master was just that obvious. It must be if Tech had noticed it himself. He shook his head and moved to swipe his hand across the entry pad.
As soon as the door opened, Tech was hit by a blast of warm air. He stepped into the room, allowing the door to slide closed behind him. He found himself in a small entry, which held a few desks with chairs placed haphazardly around them. Datapads and plant pots were scattered over the surfaces of the desks.
Would think Jedi scholars would be a bit more organized.
Tech walked further into the room, his eyes scanning the immediate area for any people that could offer him assistance. He saw another door, this one transparent as the windowed walls around it. The room beyond was a riot of colors and foliage. He crossed the space to open the door, wondering if there was someone in the main greenhouse. As soon as he entered, he heard someone shout.
“Close the door!”
Tech rushed to follow the instructions, stepping through and closing it. Just as he did, a small furry creature appeared in front of him. The top of its head was just below his knees, and it was covered in brown fur. Big black eyes stared up at him as the large ears above them twitched nervously. The creature squeaked at him and flicked its fluffy tail.
“Hello there little one,” Tech said, remaining very still so as to not spook the creature.
With the creature focused on him, it didn’t see the person sneaking up behind it with a net. A woman with dark skin and a head full of braids appeared from the nearby row of plants and scooped up the creature before it could escape again.
“Aha! Got you!” she exclaimed.
The creature squeaked loudly as it thrashed about in the net. The woman that had caught it smiled triumphantly and nodded at Tech.
“Thank you for distracting it so I could capture it.”
“My pleasure,” Tech replied.
“I caught the Bogling!” she yelled to someone else further down the row of plants.
“Oh, thank the Force,” a second feminine voice said. “I was afraid it would eat something it shouldn’t.”
A second woman appeared from behind the plants, a tall Nautolan with purple skin and yellow markings. Some of her long head tendrils were twisted together in front of her, held together with braided bands of red, green, and white that matched a larger one resting above her forehead. As Tech scanned her form with his eyes, his gaze drifted to her feet, which were bare.
“Hello,” she said, causing his gaze to lift back to her face. “I wasn’t aware I had another visitor.”
“I’ll leave you two to your business,” the other woman said. “Sorry about the Bogling. I’ll be sure to talk to Master Cordova about it.”
“See you later, Cere!” the Nautolan woman called after her departing companion.
Once the door closed behind the woman named Cere, she turned to look at him again. Her large dark blue eyes crinkled at the corners as she smiled at him. She extended her hand to him for him to shake, but Tech didn’t return the gesture. She simply shrugged and lowered her hand.
“Welcome to my sanctuary,” she said. “I’m afraid you came in a rare moment of chaos. My name is Anaj. What can I help you with, trooper?”
“My name is Tech. I was given permission by General Kenobi to make use of your vast knowledge of plant life from different planets.”
“What were you hoping to learn about?” she asked.
Tech pulled out his datapad and tapped on the screen. He brought up his previous search results that hadn’t gotten him very far before handing it to Anaj. She took a quick look at the screen before handing it back to him.
“I know exactly what plant you are looking for. They can be quite dangerous and are known for eating unsuspecting victims if they get too close.”
“That is exactly what my squad hopes to avoid. I thought that if I was able to thoroughly research them and the surrounding flora, I could be more prepared.”
“Wise choice,” she said. “I’m afraid that I won’t have much more information for you on the plant itself as they are very difficult to study as they are so dangerous. But I can help you learn what to avoid.”
“That would be sufficient.”
Anaj gestured for him to leave the greenhouse and return to the office space. Once they were back in the cluttered room, she grabbed one of her multitude of datapads and began scrolling through its contents. Once she found what she was looking for, she handed it to him to look at.
“This is what the roots look like. They are usually exposed and rest on the surface of the ground. You would be wise to avoid touching them, as that would alert the plant to your presence.”
“Much like certain vines on Umbara and Felucia,” Tech said as he scanned the information she had shown him.
“Precisely. It is possible the plants could be related,” Anaj said. “From what we’ve gathered, it seems that the plant is not native to some of the planets it has been found on. We think that some spores had been transported from other planets and taken root.”
Tech looked up from the datapad and met her gaze. While her smile remained, he could hear an annoyed tone in her voice.
“I imagine that is not a good thing?”
“The invasion of non-native plant life is never a good thing, no matter the planet. It leads to so many local species dying out as they compete for resources with the invaders. Not to mention the effect it has on animals that come across it…”
Tech watched Anaj’s face as she animatedly talked about the dangers of invasive species, both flora and fauna. The way her nose scrunched up in annoyance as she spoke of the irresponsible actions of the ones that transported the invaders made the corner of his mouth tick up in a half smile.
“I’m sorry, I’m rambling,” Anaj said, stopping mid tirade.
“That’s quite alright. You seem to care a great deal for life of all forms.”
The smile she had before returned to her face and she nodded.
“Yes, I do. I have a strong connection to all kinds of life, sentient or not. The Force flows through it all.”
“I’m afraid my experience with the force is limited,” Tech said. Until very recently, the only Jedi I knew personally were General Kenobi and General Shaak Ti.”
Anaj placed her hand on her chest and sighed softly.
“Shaak Ti was my master,” she said. “I don’t get a chance to see her often with her placement on Kamino.”
“She is well respected by everyone on Kamino, I assure you,” Tech said. “She has always been kind to us. Something that you have in common, I see.”
Anaj looked down, a shy giggle escaping her. Tech could see her cheeks darken to a deep shade of purple as she blushed. He felt a light flutter in his stomach at the sight, which he didn’t understand.
“Do you have any more information that could be useful?” he asked, trying to avoid thinking about the strange feeling.
“I can send you pictures of the plant life that can usually be found in the areas the dangerous ones grow. They like dark shady areas with a lot of tree cover, so those would be your first sign that you may come across them.”
“That would be appreciated.”
Anaj sent him the information, pointing at his screen to a small message that accompanied it.
“I included my comm frequency. If you have any questions about anything plant or animal related that you can’t find on the holonet, you can call me.”
“I will be sure to make use of that should the need arise.”
Tech stood from his seat and returned his datapad to its home in his pack.
“Thank you for your assistance, Master Jedi.”
Anaj stuck out her hand again for him to shake. This time Tech reciprocated and gently shook her hand.
“It was nice to meet you, Tech. I hope I see you again some time.”
Tech released her hand and left the room after bidding her farewell. He followed the path he had previously traveled with Keebo until he reached the hangar. Only once he arrived beside his speeder bike did he realize that he had been hoping to visit the library as well while he was in the temple.
Perhaps I can ask Cody to get me permission to use the library another time. It would make sense for me to have access to knowledge that could help us on our missions.
Tech filed that thought away, making a mental note to ask the Commander next time he saw him. He climbed on his bike and flew out of the hangar, heading back to where the Marauder was parked. The sky overhead had turned dark, the city around him full of bright lights. Tech had no doubt that his brothers would be gone when he returned, so he would have the ship to himself.
As he descended towards the hangar bay, he could see no lights coming from the Marauder and the ramp wasn’t extended, which confirmed his suspicions. Just as he landed, his wrist comm beeped, indicating that someone wanted to speak with him.
“Yes?” he answered.
“Can you swing by 79’s?” Hunter’s voice said from his wrist. “We need a pickup.”
Tech lowered the screen on his helmet to check the time.
“It’s still early. What could have happened so soon?”
“Crosshair…”Hunter started.
Tech sighed, interrupting his brother before he could say anything else.
“Say no more. I’ll be there as soon as I can.”
Tech hung up on Hunter and climbed off the bike. He made his way over to a bigger speeder that could hold all of his brothers.
“Typical,” he muttered as he took off.
Leave it to Crosshair to start a fight less than an hour into the evening.
Soon enough, he arrived outside the bar to find his brothers waiting for him. Wrecker was holding Crosshair steady as the man in question held a wad of napkins to his bleeding nose.
“What did you do now?” Tech asked.
Crosshair’s response was muffled by the napkins, prompting Tech to turn to Hunter for a clearer answer.
“A reg said something rather crude about a short Jedi with a long braid. Crosshair felt it was his duty to get in said reg’s face. When he was told that ‘he had less chance than an ice cube on Mustafar’ when it came to having a shot with someone like her, Crosshair took it personally.”
Tech saw Hunter give Crosshair a look that was half disappointment and half pity. They all knew the reg was right, but no one wanted to say it.
“Just take us back to the ship,” Hunter said tiredly.
Tech did as he was told, bringing them all home. As he flew he thought about the Jedi he had met. Before, he hadn’t truly understood why Crosshair had been so besotted with Lena, having never experienced something like that himself. As he pictured Anaj’s smile and the way she had talked so passionately about the thing she cared about, he felt like he could possibly understand.
Even though he hadn’t been around to hear the reg speak the words that had riled Crosshair up so badly, Tech could still hear them in his head. They screamed at him loud and clear.
You would never have a shot with someone like her.
Can we just,.,.accept that both Crosshair and Hunter had their reasons for doing what they did?? And honestly neither of them really did anything wrong??
Hunter left Crosshair because he tried to kill them. He didn’t understand anything about the chip, he really thought Crosshair had just lost his mind. And as soon as he learned about it and how to fix it, we immediately jumped to episode 8 where Crosshair tried to incinerate them with a jet engine. He tried to communicate that the chip was affecting him, and Crosshair didn’t care. Hunter couldn’t even get himself or Omega out of that situation unharmed. He had no way to snag Crosshair from his squadron of stormtroopers out for murder. After Bracca, Hunter was focused on getting Omega back because she’s just a kid; she isn’t with the empire, she hasn’t been chasing them down and almost killing them. From Hunter’s POV, the possibility of getting Crosshair to come with them willingly or even at all is looking bleak and even though he knows it’s not Crosshair’s fault, he’s been so overwhelmed with trying to keep the people relying on him safe and right now he doesn’t think Crosshair is relying on him. And honestly, how were they even supposed to know where Crosshair was half the time? He wasn’t on Kamino 24/7 and the Batch isn’t exactly swimming in imperial informants. But that aside, of course he was thinking about Crosshair; Hunter is loyal to a fault and you can just see the emotional pain that flashes across his face whenever Crosshair is mentioned because that’s his little brother and he couldn’t save him and he feels like he failed. Hunter never was and I don’t think ever can be indifferent when it comes to the people he loves. Whether you like it or not, Hunter was trying his best to keep everyone safe and stop running suicide missions because the galaxy was changing and he was trying to change too. He did nothing wrong.
Now Crosshair.
To all of you calling him a Nazi and saying that the animators and writers intentionally lightened his skin just to make a racist show of dominance, stop it. He was referring to their genetic enhancements being superior. That’s it. He’s always hated regs because let’s be fair the regs were never exactly good to him either (AFTERMATH). Now let’s just take a look at how the chip works shall we!! We know from Rex and Wrecker that clones know what they’re doing while under control of the chip and they’re powerless to stop themselves. So we know in Aftermath that the chip was strengthened to an insane degree, and Crosshair could still see himself taking head shots on his brothers and trying to murder them and he couldn’t stop no matter how badly he wanted to. He was powerless. And then the Batch left; at this point he probably understands that his brothers had to go. They’d regroup. They’d know this wasn’t his fault and they’d come back.
Months pass. Crosshair doesn’t know about the solemn looks the Batch exchange when he’s mentioned. Crosshair doesn’t know that they can barely get food for themselves. Crosshair doesn’t know that Wrecker has flat out said he misses him. Crosshair doesn’t know how Tech said “it doesn’t appear he’ll be needing it” with a twinge of sadness in his voice while giving Omega his comm. Crosshair doesn’t know how much Hunter hates himself for leaving and that Hunter was always planning on going back to him someday because someday he’d have the perfect plan and he could save everyone this time. How could Crosshair know?
More time passes. Crosshair probably still has his chip on but he’s still in there, watching himself become more and more important to the Empire. No rescue attempts. Not one. How awful does he have to feel?? They went to get Echo out of Skako with no backup and they didn’t even know Echo and they can’t go back for him? And here’s the Empire, giving him power and some semblance of control. Things are changing fast and now he has nobody but himself to adjust with, and besides, he’s always had an egotistical side so maybe being a commander and putting the regs in their place isn’t so bad to him after all. He’s alone. He adapts or he dies, that’s the job and that’s all he has now.
Onto Bracca!! If Crosshair is telling the truth about getting his chip out, I firmly believe it had to have been after the events of Reunion. It wouldn’t make sense otherwise; “if I wanted you dead, you would be” sweetheart giving the order to have them incinerated and starting to walk away really seems like you wanted them dead and then going from ordering Omega to be executed to telling Hunter that if he cares about her he should let her go and be safe away from them??? You can’t tell me that Bracca!Crosshair wouldn’t have dragged Omega back into the training room and killed her right there just to keep them from choosing her over him. So let’s just assume for now that Crosshair wasn’t lied to and his chip is out (I’m still holding onto a scrap of hope to the contrary because A. there’s no scar B. HE’S STILL HOLDING HIS HEAD and C. my boy isn’t making any SENSE he just killed off a bunch of Imperial stormtroopers to convince the Batch to join his Empire that he cares so much about??) it had to have happened after Bracca I said what I said idc. If the chip is out, I’m sure his head is still an absolute foggy mess because lord only knows what cranking those chips up to full strength several times will do to you, but suddenly he’s realizing that he’s still angry with them. He’s still hurt. He’s still very much alone. Maybe they never cared about him at all.
And don’t get me started on any “if he did any of this willingly he is irredeemable” garbage. How many times did Kallus almost kill the Ghost crew?? I’m sorry, was it not Kallus who ordered the Lasat genocide?? Don’t take this the wrong way, I adore Kallus and his redemption arc was one of the most beautiful things about Rebels but the point is if he can do all of those horrible things for the Empire for years and is still allowed a redemption stemming from realizing everything he thought he was fighting for was a fiction, THEN SO IS CROSSHAIR. With that side note out of the way let’s think about how alone and betrayed Crosshair feels by the Batch and let’s realize that after they left Ryloth, after they left him again, what does he want?? He wants them. He doesn’t want to kill them, he doesn’t want them imprisoned and he doesn’t want to make them pay. He wants to fight side by side with them again, he wants his brothers back. And even though he’s so beyond hope that they still care about him, heck he literally said “don’t make the same mistake twice; don’t make me your enemy” he thinks they were enemies and he still cares about them so freaking much that he went through an entire elaborate scheme to get the whole Batch on Kamino and set up the stormtroopers’ deaths to prove his loyalty that they could have if they just gave him some of their loyalty too. “Loyalty means everything to the clones” is starting to get a really bitter taste innit??
The point of this longwinded rant my friends is to beg y’all to stop being so black and white about these two. They’re both human, they both have made mistakes and have regrets, they’re both trying their best to survive in a galaxy flipped upside down. Things played out how they had to and they’re both victims of the real villain of Star Wars, who has always been Palpatine. The fact that there is so much to unpack with these two characters shows how flipping amazing the writers are!! They’re so layered and complex it’s literally like they’re real!! So please. Stop hating on them so freaking loudly. They’re my boys and they both deserve a warm hug and a nap after the season they’ve had
Peaceful Mornings With the Bad Batch
Rating: Pg and sfw!!
Warnings: Super fluffy!! Kissing and just overall soft!Bad Batch
Note: Honestly imagining how the different Bad Batch members would interact with their s/o in the morning after waking up made me feel so warm and fuzzy 💕At the time of posting this I have not seen the new episode, but I have a feeling that it is potentially going to be angsty! So here is something to hopefully comfort you <3
Wrecker
Wrecker absolutely loves to sleep in, usually sleeping past when he’s supposed to get up
So when you wake up, you are engulfed in warmth, his arms holding you tightly to his body
It takes a lot to wake him normally, but a few kisses against his neck will cause him to slowly open his eyes
He is incredibly soft spoken (by Wrecker standards) when he first wakes up, burying his face in your hair with a small “g’morning”
You couldn’t help but let out a small laugh, moving your arms to trace shapes on his back as your eyes close
Both of you never want to leave the comfort of your bed, but sadly being on the run means early mornings
Wrecker wouldn’t get up first, content in holding you, so you would slowly have to pull away (with a lot of light complaining by Wrecker)
You would help pull him up to sitting position, before he would grab you and pull you into his lap, catching you in a lazy kiss
It would take a lot to actually start getting ready, you again having to pull away to stand up
After you both got ready for the day, you two would spend a moment before going out to the rest of the crew
He would pull you into a hug, mumbling a small ‘I love you’ (and you of course returning it)
You both never knew what the day would bring, so having this time to be in each others presence grounded both of you
Echo
Echo was used to waking up early from his time in the 501st, so you would usually feel shifting in yours and Echos shared bed way before you would usually get up
With your eyes half open, you would reach over to where Echo should be, realizing that he got out of bed. You would usually let out a small whine at this, slowly sitting up
More then once you have sleepily made eye contact with a shirtless Echo, in the process of changing the top of his blacks to get ready for the day
He would always be flustered when he realized you were awake, but could never resist you when you made grabby hands at him. All you wanted was for him to come back to bed
After a few moments Echo would make his way back to bed, laying down next to you
You would automatically hold onto him, laying your head on his bare chest as you got comfortable
You mumbled a small 'I love you', which he quickly returned, pressing a small kiss to the top of your head
Echo would run his hand through your hair, slowly luring you back into a comfortable sleep
He would be there when you have to wake up, him lightly shaking your shoulder to lure you to consciousness
At first you would grumble, but as you move your head you make eye contact with Echo
His eyes are so light, looking at you with the most loving gaze you have ever seen
You couldn’t help but push yourself up on the mattress, sitting up so that you could press a kiss to his lips
He would melt into it, wrapping his arms around your neck
You wish it could last forever, but sadly you both had to get ready for the day ahead
So begrudgingly you both pulled away, getting up to start the day (not before stealing a few small kisses as you both got ready)
Tech
It was rare for Tech to go to bed and stay in bed, preferring to work on projects instead of sleeping
So often in the early morning you would feel the bed dip, arms pulling you close as you shift in bed
You usually ended up mumbling something incoherent, causing Tech to let out a soft laugh before giving you a kiss to the forehead
This was followed by him telling you to go back to bed, which you would follow almost instantly
As soon as morning hits, you feel shifting in your arms, trying to get out of your grasp without waking you
You would just tighten your arms at this, letting out a small noise as your eyes open
Tech would ask you kindly to let him get up, but you would distract him by moving your hand up to his face. You would trace the side of his face where his glasses normally rested
You would quietly tell him how cute he looked without his glasses, causing him to instantly flush
Catch him stuttering, still not very good at responding to your compliments
Silence him with a kiss, honestly he would be grateful for it since it gave him something to focus on
Tech would be the one to pull away, standing up while offering you a hand to pull you up
You would take it, and as soon as you were standing you would pull him into a hug, grabbing onto the back of his blacks
You both would exchange ‘I love you's’ before starting to get ready for the day
Tech would finish before you, sitting on the bed with his datapad while he waited for you
When you were done, you would crawl onto the bed behind him, wrapping your arms around his torso while leaning your chin on his right shoulder
No words would be spoken, you both staying there until Tech was ready to go or until you were called to the cockpit of the Marauder
Hunter
Hunter was very regimented, so he slept around the same time every night and woke up at the same time every morning
That was until you came along. Now he was used to staying up a little later to spend time with you, but he would still wake up relatively early
He would always wake up first, waking you up with small kisses here and there
Hunter loved it when you stretched against him, your arms wrapping around him and your legs intertwining with his
You would bury your face in his shoulder while mumbling a small 'morning' to him
He was content with laying there with you, his eyes closing as he basked in your presence
Sadly as he was seen as the leader of Clone Force 99, he would have to be on time to start doing his duties
So he would sit up, pulling you with him. If you wanted Hunter to, he would carry you to the refresher so that you could be near him longer
Hunter let you use the refresher first, mostly because he wanted you to help him with his hair
It calmed him when you ran your fingers through his hair, his eyes closing as he leaned into your touch
After you were done, you would help him tie his headband, him pulling you into a kiss once you were done
You two would stay there for a few moments, not wanting to pull away
Hunter would pull you into a keldabe kiss, where you both would whisper ‘I love you’s’ to each other. Then it was time to start the day <3
Crosshair
It wasn’t often that you would feel Crosshair's arms around you, pulling your back against his chest
When you first started dating Crosshair, he was barely one to pull you into cuddles, but it started to slowly happen as you got much MUCH farther into your relationship
Crosshair is able to fall asleep very easily, but any movement usually wakes him. Thats was one of the reasons that it took so long for him to share a bed with you
So when you started to wake up with arms wrapped around you and Crosshair's chin on your head, you were the happiest in the world
As you woke up this morning, shifting slightly in his arms, you felt his grip tighten around you
He usually will tiredly mutter something along the lines of “good morning doll”, causing you to smile
At this point you would turn in his arms, laying your head against your pillow as you stared at Cross’s face
He would jokingly raise an eyebrow, no words being said before he pulled you against him. Lightly placing your forehead against his, you would stay in that position for a while, both of you comfortable in the silence
As much as Crosshair would never admit it to anyone else, he honestly loved to hold you. It brought a smile to his face
Seeing him smile was the highlight of your day, you couldn’t help but kiss him
You two would stay there much longer then you probably should, but you both didn’t give a damn
Crosshair would be the one to pull away after a while though, helping you up so that you both could get ready
Before you both left, he would pull you into one more kiss, before walking out of the room with his hand on your lower back
I'm thinking about doing a tag list! If you want to be tagged on my writing posts please let me know! 💖Thank you for reading!!
You woke to a sudden jolt, the ground shaking slightly. That's when you heard the annoyed voice of Crosshair, "Wrecker, will you quit it? Some of us aren't as cheery as you in the mornings." He grumbled and you rolled in your bed, the covers twisting around you as you opened your eyes.
You saw Crosshair sitting at the seats in the middle of the room, eyebrows furrowed together as he sipped the hot coffee in his mug. He was wearing just his blacks, but without a shirt and you bit your lip.
"See something you like, princess?" He asked suddenly and you giggled as you closed your eyes and rolled to your back before throwing the blankets off you and stood up. Tech and Echo were still asleep, snoring lightly beside you, Hunter was probably in the refresher as you saw the door closed and the dull red light showing the words of 'occupied'.
Slowly walking over to Crosshair, you took a seat next to him. He didn't turn to face you, but you saw the subtle hint of a smirk on his face. "Good morning, love." You whispered in his ear and kissed his cheek. He closed his eyes at the contact.
"AW, what about me?!" Wrecker basically yelled, scarring Echo awake and Tech groaned and rolled to face the wall, slamming his pillow over his ears.
"Sh," both you and Crosshair hissed and Wrecker shyly apologised. "Come 'ere, big boy." You opened your arms and Wrecker took to opportunity to pick you up and spin you around playfully.
You kissed his chin as he set you down and felt another pair of hands on your hips then. You turned and gawked at the sight of wet-haired Hunter with no bandana on. "There any hugs left for me?" He asked and you happily leant into his arms and snuggled into him as his arms wrapped around you tightly.
"Good morning, Hunter." You whispered, knowing his was particularly sensitive to sound in the mornings; Wrecker probably not helping with his oversensitivity.
"Morning, cupcake." The nickname made you smile with a curiosity, cupcake... You had never been called that before. You heard Crosshair sniggered before getting up from the seat and making his way to the kitchen.
You pulled away to inspect Crosshair getting another cup of caff, yeah, he was the coffee addict in the Batch. "Never been called that before." You said with a giggle as you looked up at the tattooed man.
"Get used to it." He whispered, he then leant down to your ear, "unless you want to be called something a little more... degrading." You practically moaned at how deep and husky his voice was against your ear.
He leant back up then with a smirk and you squirmed in his arms still wrapped around you. "I wouldn't be opposed to the name, Sarge." His smirk widened, a darkness covering his eyes and you wriggled out of his grasp and walked over to the kitchen with Crosshair.
You placed a hand on his back and hugged him from behind as you saw he was turning on the stove to make eggs. He stiffened under your touch and pulled away quickly. You frowned, watching as he went to get the other ingredients.
"Don't take it too personally, Crosshair isn't much of a cuddlier." Tech then said beside you and you jumped a little, not realising his was there. You calmed down then and leant into his side. "I see your leg looks a little better. Angling your foot definitely had sped up the healing process."
You looked down at your leg as well, "y- yeah, it doesn't hurt too bad today." You said and smiled up at the genius of a man. "What do you have planned for today?" You asked then as he helped you to the chair where you sighed into as Tech turned on the warmer.
"Nothing really, maybe fixing up some of my incomplete projects. Crosshair, Echo and Wrecker were going see some of the markets that the Kaminoans had put together." Tech explained, kneeling down to inspect your swollen ankle and you winced as he unwrapped it.
"That's today?" You asked. "So this would be our first year anniversary of meeting each other?"
Every rotation, the Kaminoans put up some stalls in the cafeteria for the clones. It was basically the clones day off from duties and they could have fun with some of the games that were there. You remembered last rotation you had taken Jesse and Fives there and played 'tag and go'. Let's just say, some of the Kaminoans didn't like you breaking the chairs and tables as you leaped over them and hid. That was the same day you ran into Echo by accident, him splattering apologies left and right as he spilt his red, frozen drink all over you. You had laughed it off and he soon joined in too, and the other Batch members stood by him. It was a good day, and a day you wouldn't forget.
"Technically, yes." He said as he rotated your ankle slowly and softly. "I will give you some time with the compression wrap off to give your foot some air to breath." Tech stood then and went over and grabbed you a large cup of coffee. You felt the chair beside you dip then and turned to the other side to see Echo looking at you with adoration in his beautiful honey eyes.
"Good morning," he greeted and leant in slowly to press a kiss to your temple, hesitant like you were going to push him away. "Are you going to come and join us?" He then looked at your foot, realisation covering his face and he apologised.
"Echo, baby, don't apologise. You apologise too much," You giggled as you placed a hand on his stomach gently and leaned towards him to kiss his lips. He basically whimpered into your mouth and melted against you. "But no, I think I might chill out here today if you don't mind."
"Of course not, ma'am." He said and you giggled at the name. First cupcake, and now ma'am? It warmed your heart.
You leant into his ear then, "you know where you could call me that?" Echo's cheeks heated up drastically and he stuttered as he was about to speak, but Wrecker's hands came down on the back of the chair, almost tipping it with you and Echo seated on it.
"You ready, Echo?" He asked loudly, and Echo cleared his throat before nodding, giving you one glance back at you before getting up.
"The only reason why I'm going is because Kix said there was sniper gear there." Crosshair said, his usual scowl on his face. "Don't you dare bring me into any of your games." He warned Wrecker, pointing an accusing finger at him.
They left then and Tech handed you the caff he made before going over to his bunk and began fiddling with some wires and a piece of metal. "You're not going?" You asked Hunter as he sat beside you.
"No, I don't think I could handle it this rotation. It's too loud there, I barely survived last rotation." He explained and threw an arm over your shoulders and bought you closer to him. There was a silence then, just the quiet hum of Tech's gear as he continued to work on something. "So, we calling you mesh'la now?"
You laughed then, Tech looking over at you with a small smile. "Looks like it." You said and closed your eyes as you sipped the hot coffee, a small moan leaving your lips as the incredible taste. "Plus, I thought you wanted to call me cupcake, now?" You shot back and watched as Hunter's eyes made their way to your lips.
"Depends," he started, "cupcake is for the sweet and innocent you, mesh'la when you're being good, and well... something else if you've been bad."
"What if I'm extra bad?" You whispered then, watching how he licked his lips and his eyes roamed your face. "Would I be your dirty little slut?" You taunted.
You gasped as Hunter suddenly laid you back on the couch and giggled as his eyes dilated. "You better watch your mouth, mesh'la."
"I thought I was being called that when I was good." You commented, wrapping your arms around his neck and bringing him closer to you. "Why not call me your dirty little slut?" You asked huskily as Hunter groaned in your ear and nipped lightly at the sensitive skin under it. You fluttered your ears closed at the sensation.
"What? You wanna be a dirty little slut for us?" You moaned as he spoke against your neck and licked up it, leaving a hot trail in his wake. "Wanna be a good girl for us, or be a dirty little whore?"
You opened your eyes and made eye contact with Tech and smirked. "Depends if Tech will eat me out this time." You felt the wetness pool between your legs, hot and heavy breaths coming from your mouth as Hunter went lower, his damp hair on your skin setting fire in your belly.
He tugged your shirt off then, revealing the smooth skin of your stomach. "Maker," Hunter sighed, hands sprawling out on your stomach. "You're so beautiful." You blushed at his comment and felt Tech lift your head so he could situate himself there, your head in his lap.
Hunter ventured further, hands now kneeding the tops of your thighs and your wriggled impatiently before he took your sleep shorts off, careful of your injured foot. "Hunter," You slurred, you panted as you felt his fingers rub you over your underwear.
"Be patient, mesh'la." Tech mumbled, eyes transfixed on your squirming form beneath him. You tried to stop moving, grabbing onto Tech's pyjama pants as you felt your underwear being slowly pulled down from you.
"Maker," Hunter breathed again at seeing your already soaked core in front of him. "Every part of you is truly gorgeous, cupcake." He practically groaned as he began to kiss your inner thighs.
A shaky breath came from your throat at the contact, "please Hunter, don't tease." You begged, hands moving to cup his cheek. He looked up you with a glint in his eyes before slowly leaning in to lick up your pussy, never breaking eye contact.
The air left your lungs, feeling the sensation of Hunter's tongue on your lower lips and threw your head back against Tech's body. "Fuuuck, that's so good." You moaned as he circled the tip of his tongue around your clit. You whined as Tech's hand came down to kneed the soft plushiness of your breasts.
"Kriff, she's definitely not going to last." Tech pointed out as he noted how your body jolted when Hunter firmly sucked your clit into his mouth.
Hunter pulled back then, "I'd rather her cum on something else." He said darkly and stripped from his clean blacks he put on not long ago. "Is that okay with you, cupcake?" He asked as you saw his semi-hard cock being freed from his pants. You bit your lip and nodded at him, never taking your eyes off as he began to stroke his cock. He gently grabbed your jaw then, lifting your head to peer into his chocolate brown eyes. "I need you to say it, cupcake."
"Yes please, Hunter." You whimpered into his hand, spreading your legs wider for him to rest into.
"That's a good girl, mesh'la." Tech said huskily above you and you saw the dark glint in his eyes as well.
Hunter ran the tip of his cock through your folds and moaned quietly. "Want to let you know," he began, eyes fluttering closed, "that my enhanced abilities may not make me last too long."
You smiled up at him, cupping his face and bringing him down for a sloppy kiss. "That's okay, just do however much you're comfortable with." You said and he smiled back at you before completely sinking into you.
A hoarse moan made it past your lips, echoing in the room. Hunter grunted, resting his head into your neck before he began to move. "Oh, kriff-!" He moaned, feeling how you gripped around his cock snuggly.
Tech groaned as you peered up at him, hand reaching out to move a piece of stray hair from your face. Hunter leant up then so he was on his knees and began to thrust into you faster, causing you to moan louder.
"That's it, moan louder for us." Hunter gasped, face already flushed. His hands gripped the tops of your thighs again and pulled you down further on his cock, reaching deep within you; just as Crosshair had done the day before.
Tech leant over you then, fingers nimbly coming in contact with your clit and rubbed small and firm circles on it, causing a throaty groan to come out both yours and Hunter's mouth.
Hunter's hips snapped harder up into you and you heard the squelching sounds of your wetness coating his cock and whimpered quietly. Hunter began babbling incoherent sentences, thrusts becoming sloppy, "Cyare, not gonna-"
You moaned at the name, it somehow rolling off his tongue beautifully, even if you didn't know what it meant. "Please cum Hunter, cum inside me and fill me up!"
Hunter's hips stuttered then, a particularly loud moan coming from his mouth, deep and rich. "Karking- Y/N!" He spilled inside you, stopping his movements and letting his hot seed coat the inside of your walls. You moaned at the feeling of being used in this way.
Hunter shuddered as he slumped against you, heavy breaths leaving his lips. You stroked his hair, fingers massaging his scalp and he continued shuddering above you. "You okay, Hunter?" You whispered in his ear and he turned his head to the side to see you, an exhausted smile creeping up on his face.
"Y- Yeah, though I can't say the same about Tech." He said with a raspy voice and you almost forget that Tech was here, and looked up at him.
"If you don't mind, I would like my turn now." He said, voice probably just as shaky as Hunter's and you saw him palming himself through his pants, an obvious tent showing. Hunter slowly got off you, softened cock slipping out of you which caused you to whine, you hadn't yet cummed.
You nodded and Hunter moved off towards the bathroom, probably wanting to clean himself off. Tech moved so he was where Hunter was and took his pants off, throwing them absently on the floor.
"Baby," You whined, "get yourself some relief." You said and moaned as he ran his cock up and down your pussy so he was lubricated; not that you needed it. "Fuck..." You moaned as he slipped inside you then, your warmth completely enveloping him and he grunted as he pushed himself further inside you.
He leant down then, his face inches above yours and you resting your forehead against his. ""Can I move?" He asked then and you nodded desperately. He started with a softer pace, moaning as he pushed back inside of you.
You felt a hand on your head then and looked up at Hunter who gave you a warm smile before he disappeared again. Tech hit a soft spot inside you, and it snapped you back to reality and moaned loudly.
To quieten you, Tech kissed you, full of passion and hunger and his hips sped up more. You moaned again, into his mouth, before his tongue slipped past your lips and into your own.
Your hands reached up, wrapping around his neck and tugged at the strands of his hair there, causing an audible gasp to leave your lips. "Tech," You whimpered as he angled his hips higher, hitting an extra soft spot inside of you. You shook, feeling the heat of an orgasm bubbling to the surface, "Tech..." You warned then, nails digging into the back of his neck.
"That's right, mesh'la, I want you to cum around me. I want to feel you gush around my cock as I spill inside you." Tech spoke dirtily, and you gasped as he dived for your neck.
"Fuck, fuck, fuuuck." You chanted, legs tightening around his hips as you almost were tipped over the edge, all you needed was that extra push. "Tech, baby, please..." You were whining for more, anything more.
Tech sat up then, but never faltering his movements. His hand came around your throat then, squeezing it, but not as hard as what Crosshair had done. His other hand came down to rub your clit in furious circles and that's when you came. You shouted his name, the hand only wrapping around you tighter as a response and your whole body shook violently.
You heard Tech groan then, hips stuttering as Hunter's had done as he spilled himself inside of you. He grunted your name, releasing your neck to grab onto the chair to steady himself.
"Well, that was something." You heard the husky voice of Hunter then and finally opened your eyes to meet his chocolate brown ones above you.
"That was good." You huffed, still out of breath and felt Tech pull out. He and Hunter helped you sit up then before Hunter grabbed a cloth and began to wipe you down, eyes lingering on your cum-soaked cunt.
You took a breath, leaning into Hunter's side as you closed your eyes. "You want me to help you with a shower?" Tech asked and you opened your eyes to see the pilot with a warm smile on his face.
You giggled and nodded and he helped you towards the refresher. "I'll let you know if I need help." You told him, leaning up to kiss his cheek and you smiled again. He closed the door behind you and you looked at yourself in the reflection, eyes scanning over the love marks Tech had made there, and you giggled as you turned on the shower.
The hot water cascaded down your back and you moaned, delighted by the hot water relaxing your sore and used muscles. You heard the front door whoosh open then and Wrecker laughed loudly. You shook your head and laughed as you grabbed out your shampoo and began to wash your hair.
"You should have seen the food that was there!" He yelled, probably stuffing his face with whatever was there. "I saved mesh'la some! Where is she?"
"She's in the refresher, now be quiet." Hunter said, as you heard boots walking away from you. "Hey, don't go eating all of it! You said you were leaving some for Y/N."
"Oh, right... I forgot." Wrecker said, and you could already see his face drop.
"There wasn't any rifle gear there," Crosshair sniggered, "and I see you were busy."
"AW, did I miss out on that?" Wrecker asked, sounding upset.
Tech interrupted and cleared his throat. "It was a fair ordeal, we hadn't yet been with Y/N. Wrecker, don't be selfish."
"Real fun, you even spilt the coffee on the chair we just got." Echo noted and you felt a tinge of sadness creep within you and you quickly finished washing your hair and body.
You wrapped a towel around your head and body and stepped out of the refresher, everyone's eyes turning to you. Wrecker gawking at you the most. "I didn't mean to spill the coffee, I'm sorry."
"Hey, it's alright. Nothing Tech or myself can't clean up." Hunter said, stepping towards you and cupping your face between his palms. "Plus, it was our fault that it spilt, not yours." You smiled as he squished your cheeks playfully and leaned in to hug him.
"How touching..." Crosshair muttered, pulling out a new toothpick after throwing the other on the floor. "Well, remind me next rotation to not go to the markets if it means I can fuck Y/N."
"She's not a plaything," Echo said then and Crosshair scoffed.
"Yeah, and that's not what you thought when she willingly opened her legs for us?" He retorted and you shrunk back at what he said, hiding behind Hunter's body.
"Hey, don't say that about Y/N! She's gorgeous and stunning, and you should learn to respect her!" Wrecker shouted, shoving his brother.
Crosshair shoved him back, "Respect a whore that opens her legs for anyone? I think not." You wanted to cry, feeling hot tears make their way to the surface. "Plus, she's not even that good at anything, so why keep her around? Throw her out for the next man to fuck her."
Hunter spun then, punching Crosshair right in the face and making him stumble back at the suddenness of the impact. "Quit talking like that about her!" He shouted, never had you heard him raise his voice this much.
You stepped back, your back coming in contact with the door of the refresher. By now, tears had soaked your cheeks and your whimpered, catching Echo's attention.
"Hey, it's okay. Come here." He said softly and took a step forwards as Crosshair threw Hunter off him. You shook your head and quickly opened the door before slamming it shut behind you and locking it.
A shaky breath caught your lips as you slid down the door and onto the floor. "What the hell is wrong with you?" Hunter asked as more tears slipped from your eyes.
"Y/N?" Tech suddenly asked at the door.
"G- Go away." You whispered, sniffing.
"I have clothes for you." You took the clothes from Tech then, quickly opening the door before slamming it back shut again. You got dressed in the plain white shirt and black leggings he handed you and saw your teary reflection in the mirror.
You took a deep breath then, opening the door and saw Hunter still standing over Crosshair. Their eyes turned on you, and you tried your best not to slam the door again.
You limped your way over to the front door. "Where are you going?" Echo asked and you turned to face him.
"Away." You spat, "Don't follow me. And you," You pointed at Crosshair, "Don't you dare talk to me ever again!" And with that, you slammed the door in front of them all.
Thunder - Tech x Gn!Reader
Plot: Tech protects the reader from a storm that they're terrified of.
Warnings: Thunder, fear, descriptions of anxiety and a panic attack. Fluff accompanies it!
------------------
One, two, three.
You were currently lounging aboard the Havoc Marauder, swinging in the co-pilot seat as Tech lay beside you fiddling beneath the control panel. These were the afternoons you were used to, some of the batch scattered around the ship whilst others went out for supplies. You and Tech currently remain on the ship, occasionally handing him the necessary tools to complete his job.
"What's something you're scared of?" You aimlessly asked, spinning a little in the chair leaning back whilst occasionally gazing over in Tech's direction.
"Scared of?" He responded, placing his hand out for the next tool he required. Once you placed it into his hand and he began to work again, he spoke. "I suppose in any circumstance I'd be afraid of losing my brothers and you." Smiling lightly at his answer you cuddled back up on the chair humming at his response. "Why do you ask?"
"No reason, just a little bored and curious." He chuckled at your answer, finally completing his task and sitting up to face you.
"Well I think this is the most entertaining activity but each to their own interests I suppose." He stood and brushed his hands against one another to brush any dust off of them. "May I return the question?" Nodding softly you began to think,
"I get really scared of storms." He tilted his head, grabbing his datapad in his hands and returning to the seat before the main controls. "They're terrifying don't you think?" He shook his head, ensuring all the systems were online on the attack shuttle.
"No, I don't think that." You mustered a simple 'ah' as his blunt answer responded. "Only because I was created on a planet with constant storms, I grew used to it and to find comfort in them." He took a gentle breath in, examining your expression. "But I understand why many may be afraid of them, they're sudden and can spark anxiety."
Before you could reply, Hunter and Echo walked in with a crate of supplies, placing it down in the cockpit.
"Here we go, everything we need." With a smile you got out of the chair, giving each of them a warm hug before opening it.
"You boys go and relax, I've got this!" They nodded and both ruffled your hair as you carried the various supplies to their locations, sorting through them and finally reaching the fuel. Lifting it up, you turned to Tech who still remained seated in the pilot's chair. "Hey Tech? Should I fuel up now or keep it stored?" He moved to face your voice, gazing down at his data pad before moving to view the controls.
"The Marauder could do with some fuel now, this will do nicely." He paused as he stood, walking over to you. "I'll help you fuel it." Nodding you soon followed after him, walking down the ramp and allowing your eyes to roll over the scenery. Darker clouds rolled over the sky, the various loads of nature shaking against the wind that began to kick up the dust against the floor. "Okay, here. Place the fuel against this and it should do it manually." With a soft nod, you did as instructed and allowed the fuel to roll into the ship, fuelling its systems for the next chaotic missions to come.
"Thanks Tech!" You spoke as you removed the empty fuel canister with him shutting the area closed and checking his datapad with a satisfactory nod.
"Not a problem, we should return to the ship and signal for the others to return - it's getting rather dark." Once he activated his comm system, he spoke into it signalling for Crosshair and Wrecker to return to the ship - none of the bad batch had a clue what could happen on this planet as this was the first time you had all stopped here for supplies. He gently gestured toward the ship, a soft smile against his lips. "Come, let's get in." You followed his instructions and returned into the ship with Tech closely behind you as you put away the crate that you all had used. Crosshair and Wrecker had soon followed, Wrecker being the first to greet everybody and picking you up into a hug which you always adored. He was always so warm and kind, something you definitely needed a lot of the time. You were known to be anxious, Tech knew the details of your anxiety but it never got into your way of missions which was good. But even if it did, Tech assured you he would always be there to help which in all honesty gave you a great amount of comfort.
"Did you have fun?" You asked, exchanging stares with both Wrecker and Crosshair who walked into the cockpit after you. Wrecker laughed lightly and nodded, Crosshairs voice speaking instead of his own.
"Just some basic training while we can." He mumbled, offering you a gentle gaze before heading toward the bunks clearly already worn out. Wrecker ruffled your hair softly before moving in a similar direction, leaving you with Tech, Echo and Hunter. Yawning gently, you moved back toward the copilot seat and watched as the darkened clouds rolled overhead and covered what was left of the already darkening sky.
"Do you think it'll rain?" You questioned nobody in particular, watching the darkness of the clouds thicken made your chest grow tighter as you spoke.
"Looks that way, it's probably a storm." Echo replied, fiddling with something before looking at your worried gaze. "Don't worry, I'm sure it'll be fine." He offered you a small smile before gently pushing an overtired Hunter toward the bunks for some sleep. Tech ran his eyes over the system once again before ensuring that everything was off in preparation for whatever weather was about to occur.
"We better turn in for the night too then." His voice filled the empty air as he stood, beginning to walk to the bunks alongside you. "We will be collecting a mission tomorrow so ensure you get plenty of sleep, y/n." With a smile you arrived at your bunk and removed your armour so you were in your blacks with Tech doing the same.
"Alright, sweet dreams Tech!" Nodding gently he got into his bunk, switching off any lights that were left on via his datapad.
"Goodnight y/n." With that, the Havoc Marauder fell silent, everybody on board within a deep and calming slumber and everything was okay. Tomorrow would go just as you all planned it to go, simply and swiftly.
You were awakened suddenly by a loud boom and the ship violently shaking against the ground. Rain was hitting against the ship heavily and the room lit up when a clash of lightning filled the sky. The first impression you had in your half- awake state was that you were under attack, but as soon as you heard the rumble of thunder and clash of lightning accompanied with the heavy rain your suspicions were confirmed. It was a storm and you were absolutely terrified. Taking in a sharp breath, you hid beneath the covers that give you nightly comfort and protection from whatever your anxiety mustered up. Tears automatically welled in your eyes and your breathing seemed to escape you leaving your chest feeling tight as you gasped for air.
"Hey, is everything okay?" The blanket was softly removed from your face revealing Tech stood beside your bunk. Upon seeing your terrified self, he crouched down and sat you up so you could lean against him whilst he rubbed your back. "Breathe, Mesh'la." His gentle words helped ground you, but the louder rumble of the thunder reversed whatever good he did. "Breathe with me." His instructions were simple and clear, but everything felt like it was too much to face. He took a deep breath in which you were able to replicate though jaggedly and exhale. You both repeated these slow motions until you were finally in control of your own breathing again but the crying didn't subside. Ever so gently, Tech picked you up and held you in his arms with your blanket still wrapped around you. He had brought you both into the cockpit, sitting you upon his lap and hugging you closely as you both watched the storm unfold before you. Streaks of white lit up the  sky along with the rain hammering against the window, dripping down to make various smudged patterns of mist.
"It's loud." You whispered against him softly, his hand gently rubbing your cheek in an act of comfort. His gaze was filled with softness when his eyes met your own, face filled with concern.
"I know cyar'ika, I know…" Tech's voice continued to soothe you but it didn't prevent you from jumping slightly in fear again as another bang filled the sky with thunder. "One, two, three." You watched as he counted, another bang following the numbers. Softly moving your eyes to gaze at him, you gently held onto his blacks as he continued. "One, two, three, four, five…" Another followed which made you gasp lightly, but his hand against your back soothed you almost immediately.
"W-what are you counting?" Your voice asked, hiding against him whilst gazing out of the window before you both. You watched a smile form against his face as his hand continued to rub soft circles against your back.
"You can count the storm to see how far away it is or how near." He paused for a moment allowing the rain to fill the new silence, "It's getting further away see?" Nodding softly you clung to your blanket and watched as the sky lit up, the fear from earlier growing less and less as time went by. "... Five, six, seven." Another clap of thunder was heard, but further away now - the ship no longer shaking whenever the clouds clashed among each other. A smile soon crept onto your face as you watched feeling safe within Tech's arms, the storm no longer causing your chest to tighten in fear. Yawning again you cuddled back up to Tech who happily held you into his arms, the rain starting to soothe you asleep again with your eyes fluttering shut.
"One, two, three..." You whispered, no thunder following it which made both of you smile. Tech drew in a gentle breath as you both watched the trees before the ship wave against the harsh wind.
"Sleep, Mesh'la - I will protect you." A soft hum from you was all it took to allow sleep to overtake your mind and body, Tech holding you and protecting you from the storm outside. Everything was alright, things were safe now.
Once morning had arrived, the storm had long gone as the sunshine took its place. The rest of the batch had wandered in and couldn't help but melt at the sight of you both huddled together in your blanket with Tech's protective hold of you. Opening your eyes you meet Techs awake and gentle ones, a sleepy smile soon on your face.
"Thank you for last night, you really helped me." His fingertips brushed some stray hairs away from your eyes, a chuckle leaving his lips.
"I love helping you, it wasn't a bother." You paused in thought for a brief moment before speaking,
"You remembered I don't like storms?" He nodded with a light smile as he gazed before him,
"Of course I did, I realized the storm coming may have affected your anxiety and I couldn't just leave you alone."  He grinned as he faced you, "But it shouldn't be such a shock that I listened to you - I always listen to my Mesh'la." Standing, you moved to kiss his cheeks in thanks.
"Sure you do, Teccie." You couldn't help but laugh as he stood with you trying to defend himself before you spoke again, "I'm just teasing, you always listen to me - thank you." He smiled at your response as you both cleaned up the blankets to prepare for the day you all had ahead. Everything would run smoothly especially after such a lovely nights rest.
Pillowtalk (NSFW || Crosshair x Female!Reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: No plot really, only tropes. it was supposed to be only fluff, but I got a little bit carried away.
——————————————————————–
Series: Star Wars: The Clone Wars / The Bad Batch
Pairing: Crosshair x Female!Reader
Warnings: 18+ ONLY.  Skipped smut. Fluff. Teasing. Sexual content. Mention of blood.
——————————————————————–
You hadn't expected ending up in the same bed (and specifically yours) with a certain grumpy sniper. You've always assumed the squabbling and mocking each other were just playful jokes and nothing too serious. They are, but you both got into a heated argument. Somehow it ended up closing in on each other's personal space, then he had you pinned against the wall. The next thing you knew was you were both making out and dragging him to your room.
Now here you lie in the morning, in your tank top and underwear, on top of a shirtless Crosshair with his arms wrapped around you. Still asleep while you study the details of his face.
Such a handsome man even with the disheveled hair. Smiling to yourself, you notice there's one detail that stands out.
"I know you're awake, Crosshair." You lightly flick his forehead-an action you mimic that he's done to you before multiple times when you either annoy or roast him. He lazily opens his eyes to look at you and the time before closing them again.
You sigh, resting your chin on his shoulder, eyes still on him.
"Enjoying the view?" He teases. Eyes half-lidded and a small smirk rising to his face.
"No." You deadpan. He flicks your forehead. You yelp at the pain and glare at him. Your gazes meet each other. Your pout melts into a warm smile and he has himself smiling as well. A small one, but it's there.
He sits up, making you lie to his side. He reaches for a toothpick from the holder he placed on your bedside table last night. Another thing you hadn't expected from him was the aftercare. You'd assume he would head out after he had gotten what you both wanted. You were wrong.
"You know..." You trail off, your fingers tracing random patterns on his skin. He raises an eyebrow at you, waiting for you to continue. "I thought you would just dipped after last night."
"Did you want me to?"
"Yes." You stop him before he could get up. "Kidding! I meant no and thank you..." You look away from him, feeling the heat on your cheeks. "...for staying."
He cups your face, making you look at him, toothpick gone from his mouth. It's his turn to admire you with the softness in his eyes you don't often see. He leans in, kissing your forehead, then moving down to your lips. Gentle yet passionate affection in perfect tandem, growing needy as you continue. You both pull away to catch your breaths. He lies back down on his side, pulling you into his arms, face burying into your neck. Sleep about to catch the both of you as the moment passes. Before you could doze off, you take a look at the clock and realize you're going to be late for a spar with Hunter.
You should be getting ready right now and Crosshair with his daily routine in the shooting range.
"We need to go." You caress his cheek.
"I don't." You sigh at his response.
"I need to go." A hand on your arm stops you from getting out of bed. He pulls you again, strong lean arms trapping you underneath him, one hand locking your wrists together on top of your head.
"Crosshair."
"You can get out of this, can you? You would have if you wanted to." You didn't want to at first, but now you do for an entire different reason. You wipe the smugness out of him by doing so and having him underneath you, straddling him.
"You're right." You tilt your head at him, amused you've caught him off-guard. You feel his growing arousal as you press down on his crotch. You hold his wrists, stopping him from grabbing your hips. You tut at him.
"You don't have permission to touch me or to speak." He scowls, gripping the bedsheet, surprised as well by following your orders.
"I will leave you like this," You grind against his, earning a pant from him. "if you keep acting like a brat."  Your stern voice gives him goosebumps. He has seen how dominant you are in close combat even in your fights with Hunter. His thoughts are interrupted as your hands roam from his abs to his chest. You chuckle at the intensity of his eyes at you.
"Enjoying the view?" You mock him.
"No." You dig your nails lightly into his chest, not enough to draw blood, but enough to leave scratch marks. He grits his teeth, knuckles turning white from restraining himself to touch you. You tut again.
"Did I tell you to speak?"
No response. You can feel the irritation and lust from his glare.
"Well?"
Still no response. He closes his eyes.
"Speak."
"No."
"No, what?"
"No, ma'am."
"Good boy." You coo. He snaps, sitting up, holding you in place. He pulls your hair back, exposing your neck. He stops himself before he could ruin that pretty skin of yours with his mouth. A grave mistake, he realizes this as he sees a glint of mischief in your eyes.
You hum in thought, glancing at the clock. It's going to be a long morning. Whatever excuse you'll give to Hunter can be dealt with later.
------
You're definitely late. The sparring session is already past schedule because a certain someone had to get back at you in the refresher. You're just about ready to head out of your room with the sniper, but he stops you, holding your arm. It seems he wants to say something from how his face is all scrunched up like a kinrath pup. He opens his mouth, but at lost for words, he closes them. You blush at the realization.
"Do you want to do this again sometime soon?" You speak his thoughts for him.
"If... you're up for it." You beam at his answer. He looks away and tries to stop himself from smiling. He lets go, but he halts you again when you're near the door.
"You forgot something." You're about to ask what. He already answers you by crashing his lips onto yours. He breaks away when he has you wanting for more, leaving you dazed until he opens the door, revealing a surprised Hunter about to knock. Crosshair only gives a glance at his brother as he walks away, leaving you and a confused Hunter alone.
You compose yourself and walk out of your room, closing the door behind, facing the sergeant.
"Hunter. Apologies for not being able to attend our sparring today. I was... preoccupied."
"Uh-huh. Preoccupied."
-----
Bonus epilogue(?):
Tumblr media
Later that night in the Bad Batch's room.
773 Firepuncher lies disassembled on the table. Crosshair cleans his rifle, part by part. Tech notices something, particularly on the marksman's neck, that has been bothering him since morning. Something dark can be seen peeking out of his collar. Tech moves closer and inspects, adjusting his goggles.
"There seems to be discoloration on your skin." Hunter's ears perk up. Crosshair has his hand instinctively cover the bruise.
"Maybe he finally beat Doc's insults and she decided to deck him!" Wrecker chimes in, laughing. Crosshair rolls his eyes and tries to ignore them as he resumes his task at hand. They continue to blabber their theories.
"Doc wouldn’t hit Crosshair that would inflict harm especially on the neck. Normally, I'd say the regs would, but this does look different from a normal bruise." Tech pulls Crosshair's collar to inspect further. It only reveals more hickeys. He slaps Tech's hand away.
"Well, and there are more of them. You should have those checked with Doc." Crosshair smirks at the idea.
Wrecker clicks things into place. Wrecker slaps Crosshair's shoulder stronger than intended, causing the sniper to bend forward and drop a weapon part he's holding on the table.
"I didn't know you had it in you!" Crosshair shoots daggers at the chuckling larger man. "He's not going to need to have those checked, Tech! In fact, Doc will probably give him more!"
"That doesn't make sense."  Tech states a matter-of-factly.
"What do you mean ‘it doesn't make sense’? Doc gave those hickeys and I'm sure of it."
"That's absurd, Wrecker. I highly doubt she'd-" The two keep arguing. From across them, Hunter sighs and shakes his head. Crosshair shares the same sentiment as he continues his business. Maybe a late night “checkup” wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Sober Suspicions
A/N: Okay, so here's part 2 to Drunken Confidence! Hope you all enjoy it and let me know if you want more Tech content!
Part 1 - Drunken Confidence
Star Wars masterlist. Ultimate masterlist.
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The morning was here, awakening you with the moans and groans of the other patrons in the room. Wrecker had groaned the loudest, slowly sitting up in bed and rubbing his head, a headache no doubt, "Ugh, remind me to never drink again," he grumbled. Hunter sat from his bunk, elbows braced against his knees, hand running through his thick hair, "I second that,"
You wanted to laugh but the icky feeling in your stomach silenced you. You took a deep breath, standing on wobbly legs and moving your way past the bunks and to the sliding door. Walking past Crosshairs bunk, you batted against it with a bawled fist, but no sign of life came from it, "You're wasting your time, (Y/N), knowing Cross, he's probably lurking in a tree somewhere." Hunter snided.
Before you could get to the exit, the door swooshed open and a bright light flooded the dark misery of the bunks. You all hissed like vampires, squinting your eyes to look upon Echo's amused smile, "About time you guys got up, Omega's made you all some caf."
"Omega made us some caf?" you mused, tilting your head in confusion, "What does she want?" Hunter asked from behind you, placing a steady hand against the door, his arm brushing against the hairs on the top of your head.
Echo shrugged his shoulders, turning around to walk back into the hallways of the Havock, "Beats me, guess she heard all the groans and assumed you needed a little life support."
"Ugh, but I hate the caf here, tastes like dirt." Wrecker whined, eventually joining you all. You noted the three dainty cups on the side, practically sprinting for it to soothe your buzzing mind. The ramp to the outside was down, allowing the bright sunshine of whatever planet you were on to beam into the Havock like a welcomed friend. There was a warm breeze, it gently swayed the flowers, the leaves on the trees rustling.
Echo slumped down the ramp, quickly joining back with Omega who sat playing with the flowers, weaving their stems into a crown to rest upon his head. Wrecker downed his caf, wiping away the remnants from his lips with the back of his hand. Slamming the metal cup down, he dashed from the Havock and tumbled into the grass, jogging his way over to the pair before falling to his ass and laughing with Omega.
You had no clue how he could be so positive while escaping a hangover, Hunter seemed to agree, he sent you an roll eye, soft smile hidden by his cup. He nudged his head over to the sealed doors of the cockpit, no doubt where the resident genius was residing, "You gonna go see him?" his voice wavered.
You shrugged your shoulders, choosing to stare into the brown abyss of your drink than rather looking into Hunter's eyes, "I don't know, I will at some point just...not yet." You didn't know why you were so apprehensive to see Tech, well that was a lie, you knew the exact reason.
Last night in your drunken, passed out form, you heard Tech speaking to you. He was nervous but what else was new, he was rambling about something before it all went quiet, the only sounds were your laboured breaths. Then he said it: "I love you."
You never thought you'd hear those words fall from anyone's lips let alone Tech's, he always seemed so reserved around you. Sure, he had his snarky comments and moments of playfulness, but they also seemed so spread apart. You had liked Tech for while now, you had assumed it to be obvious with the amount of times you've flirted with him, especially while drunk. But each morning you'd both wake up and act like it never happened, hence leading you to believe he'd never feel the same way.
"Maybe you should go talk to him," Hunter interrupted your train of thought, bringing you back into the real world. You finally looked to him, eyes pleading him to not talk further on the subject, he could sense your change in emotions, "Look, I don't know what happened between the two of you last night, but when we got back Tech was acting weird...well, weirder than usual."
"Nothing happened," You argued, sipping the remains of your drink, albeit slightly colder than when you had originally started drinking it. Hunter frowned, he didn't like liars, especially when they were on his team, "(Y/N), you can't avoid him forever."
"I'm not..avoiding him, just- just getting over my hangover."
Hunter walked past you, one hand holding his cup while the other rested on your shoulder, he looked deeply into your eyes, "It's a small ship, (Y/N)." was all he said before he left to join the others. You watched as he shuffled down the ramp, casting your gaze to the floor as you thought deeply about what to do.
Leaning back against the cockpit doors, which in hindsight was a bad idea, you settled the mug into a more comfortable position and stared out at the ship. Eyes flicking onto every piece of furniture, onto Gonky in the back, everything. In a matter of seconds, the doors you were resting on disappeared, replaced by a hard chest. The swooshing sound you were used to changed to a startled "Oh!"
Pacing yourself, you looked up with wide eyes. You could feel his arms braced against your sides, chest heaving beneath your back, breath fanning across your face. Tech stared down at you in equal shock, not at all expecting you to be there, rather, he assumed you'd be with the others outdoors.
"(Y-Y/N)," he stuttered out, still staring at you, neither of you deciding to move yet. You swallowed down the lump in your throat, fidgeting out of his grip until you were stood on two feet again, "Tech," you stated.
You stepped away from each other, refusing to make eye contact, the atmosphere around you both unnerving and tense. Tech took in a breath, the holopad in his hands pushed against his chest, "Well, then," he muttered. His voice sent a shiver down your spine, looking up you met his regretful eyes, "Uh-huh," you huffed.
He stepped around you, ready to dash away to the depths of the ship and never be seen again. But you stopped him, back turned to him, front facing the cockpit as you looked at the bright blue skies through the windows.
"We can't keep doing this," you whispered, Tech's ears perked at your voice, he turned to face you, "Can't keep doing what, exactly?"
You turned to face him, looking anywhere but at his dumb, handsome face, "We can't keep saying things then avoid each other like the plague."
"I don't know what you're referring t-"
"I heard you, you know? Last night." you uttered to Tech, his words going dull on his tongue. He took a timid step closer, you could hear his footfalls echo against the ships ground. The tip of his finger made contact with your arm, soon his whole hand joining along, grasping the appendage and pushing you with his chest into the cockpit.
The doors shut, trapping you both in the moment. You had yet to face him, eyes still glistening at the sight before you, the scenery like nothing you had ever seen before. Both of you standing in the cockpit with the sun passing through the glass. Tech's eyes widened, finally looking at you with guilt he moved to apologise, but you stopped him before he could utter a single word.
"I love you too," you whispered calmly, although your mind was anything but calm. Tech's movements faulted, mouth agape and eyes wide behind his tinted goggles, "I-you-I'm sorry, I think you've just broken my brain." he began to ramble, "Well not in reality, while a brain can technically be 'broken', it cannot split unless forced to by another and not by emotions-"
He continued to splutter out phrases and words that meant nothing to you, but that's one thing you loved about Tech, his brain, his awkwardness. You stepped towards him, having to crane your neck to look into his eyes, which weren't on you as he rolled them around while he talked, similar to his hands; he was always one for theatrics when he spoke.
Pushing a finger to his lips, you silenced him, a rosy blush tinting his cheeks. You grinned at him, "Tech, as much as I love your nerdy little rambles, I'm afraid I'm going to have to cut you off."
"A-and how will you do that?" he questioned as well as he could, still speaking with your finger pressed against him. You leaned onto the tips of your toes, edging closer and closer towards him until your lips replaced your finger. Tech's whole body straightened when he felt you against him, arms braced by his side and holopad dropped to the floor. Slowly, his arms snaked around your hips, hesitant in his actions, he waited for you to initiate everything.
Pulling away, a small gap between you both and hot pants on each other's faces, you beamed up at him. He stretched a hand up to readjust his goggles, "I see," he mused, a smile now on his lips.
"You know, I appreciate everything you do for me when I'm..."
"Intoxicated beyond belief?" he finished for you, you punched him in the breastplate, knowing no harm would come to him. He wrapped a hand around your fist, flattening your palm so he could encase it with his own, "I read somewhere that being outside is meant to help with hangovers, fresh air is proven to 'unclog' the mind, as it were."
"Ugh, I love it when you talk nerdy to me." you teased, pressing your lips against his for the second time that day. This time Tech embraced it, pulling and pushing against you as your lips overlapped, hands squeezing your sides with love.
"I assume you worked things out?" Crosshairs voice slinked from the entrance, too enthralled with each other you barely picked up on the sound of the door opening. With your arms wrapped around Tech's neck and his around your waist, you stared at Crosshairs with broad eyes.
"Relax, we all knew you'd bang anyway." he walked off, presumably back to the bunks, leaving you and Tech in a state of embarrassment; bright red cheeks and muted thoughts.

no strings, right? pt:3
Summary: party time babey, but crosshair really seems to hate parties, or something. Word count: 1.4 k Notes: anyways, hey again, here is a half-assed chap x Warnings: none, making some lore up lol. 1|2|3|.....
Ran immediately showed you to a lavish room with a circular bed so large that all of the batch could probably sleep on it at the same time. Hunter and Crosshair trailed behind awkwardly, and you could feel Crosshair’s glare against the back of your neck the entire time. Everytime you glanced back at them, Hunter gave you a half apologetic look.
‘I hope this suffices.’ Ran purred, reaching past to you, his chest brushing against you back to open the door to some private quarters.
You looked around the massive room. It was the most opulent room you had ever stood in. The carpet was plush underneath your dirty boots, a glimmering chandelier throwing shards of lights on the sleek chrome walls. A large window took up an entire wall, showcasing the best of the glimmering buildings that Whorlport had to offer. It was breathtaking. Spending so much time in the grimy streets and parlors, slinking job to job beneath the towering buildings of Ord Mantell City had robbed you of the beauty of what Ord Mantell had to offer. For a second, all you could do was stare out the window.
‘It’s lovely, Ran. Thank you.’ You said. Total tool or not, Ran was extremely rich, which was very convenient.
‘I had a dress and some things sent up for you before you landed.’ Ran smiled at you, a greasy leer that made you want to throw up. You knew that expression well — on him, and other men who thought they ruled the world.
The dark shimmery fabric on the bed caught your eyes, a pair of glossy heels next to it. Ran had always been partial to the Coruscanti women’s fashion of high heels, unfortunately for you.
‘I’ll be on the VIP floor. I trust you’ll know your way there?’ Ran asked. You nodded. You knew your way around the Casino well; it was where he had set up a meeting to graciously finance you in the first place.
Finally, he left. You didn’t bother closing the door, and walked to the bed, slumping onto the soft mattress.
Hunter knocked on the doorframe and made his way inside. He looked as out of place as you felt. ‘I just talked to Tech. They should be here in a couple of hours.’ Hunter said, surveying the room with narrowed, scrutinising eyes that only a soldier could have. ‘Is that enough time for your friend?’
You ignored his subtle jab. ‘Yes, the quicker we get out of here, the better. Better not mention it to him, though.’ You flopped onto your back and sunk into the bed. If only you could stay here and not go down to Ran.
‘So you aren’t friends?’ Hunter asked.
You sat up. ‘Like I said,’ You picked up the dress next to you, rubbing the fabric between your fingers. ‘Our relationship is more contractual. I think he thinks we’re closer than we are.’
Hunter chuckled. ‘I can see that.’ You looked outside the door. Crosshair was leaning against the opposite wall in the corridor, his arms crossed and his gaze squarely on you. That look always made the embers in the bottom of your stomach continue to smolder.
You looked away, breaking away from his intense stare. ‘Why’s Cross out there?’
Hunter looked behind his shoulder for a moment. ‘He’s sulking.’
‘Ah.’
‘Serves him right.’ Hunter remarked.
You laughed. ‘You know, I think you’re right.’
---
‘So, what do you think?’ It had been so long since you had dressed up and you felt out of place. The comfort of your well worn trousers and jacket provided more than just protection — it gave a feeling of security, one you desperately wanted now.
‘You look lovely,’ Hunter said sincerely.
‘Thank you,’ You replied, smoothing the dress down. The fabric was heavy and brushed against your ankle. Nearly all of your back was exposed but luckily your front and arms were covered, a high collar being of some comfort.
Crosshair rolled his eyes, gnawing on a toothpick. He barely looked at you.
‘What, not to your liking Cross?’ You sneered half-heartedly.
Crosshair raised an eyebrow. ‘Maybe you’d look better if you weren’t getting dressed up for that idiot.’
‘Crosshair,’ Hunter warned. ‘Grow up.’ You simmered. Why was Crosshair so frustrating?
‘You always did look better in a dress,’ Ran showered you with compliments the minute you got within arms reach, not catching onto how he made your skin crawl. Crosshair and Hunter looked out of place in their carbon-scorched armour, loitering around you and Ran, close enough to overhear the conversation.
‘You know me, Ran,’ Your smile was tight. ‘Your lifestyle isn’t quite for me.’
‘It could be,’ his fingers held your chin, holding your head in place. Whenever Crosshair did that, it made your heart flutter and flip, but now your stomach churned unpleasantly. Maybe before you’d met Crosshair you were able to stomach Ran, but now it was much more difficult. Every comment and touch he gave you made you think of Crosshair, the agony worse because Crosshair was only meters away from you.
Ran swept you around the room, his hands always too low, always too tight. For hours he showed you off to his clients and associates, draping gleaming compliments around your neck. You were his success story, and you hated it.
Using any excuse to break away you made for the closest waiter and alcohol. Swiping a glass of fancy champagne off a tray you downed it, and then drunk another in quick succession. Anything to get a break from Ran and his syrupy comments and his sticky fingers. Your skin was uncomfortably warm and you massaged your temples.
 ‘Sick of being his trophy?’ Crosshair sidled near you, his rifle securely in his hands.His drawl was grating on your nerves.
‘Seriously?’ ‘He saved our lives! Maybe you should thank me.’ You shot back. Maybe it was the alcohol getting to your head (it definitely wasn’t just the champagne), but you were so sick of Crosshair’s constant bleak cynicism. It would be fine if he could sulk in a corner somewhere, but no, he always had to announce exactly how you had messed up or pissed him off whenever he had a spare moment — and even when he didn’t.
Crosshair laughed, a sharp mocking sound that hurt.‘Thank you? What for? For having to subject us to watching him parade you around the room — his little bounty hunter pet?’ Crosshair sneered at you, his lip curled, ire twisting around his tongue. ‘It’s pathetic.’
It was frustrating; he had the entitlement to be jealous, even though he’d done everything to make sure your relationship to him was casual. No strings. Your face and ears and neck and chest were on fire. Crosshair smirked harshly at your embarrassment.
Vexation glowed hot in your chest. ‘I don’t like him! I’m doing this because he saved me!’
Crosshair sniggered and replied bitingly: ‘Could’ve fooled me. Soon he’ll probably ask for you to go to his private quarters.’ He looked at you properly, his narrowed eyes sliding up and down the length of your body. ‘Maybe he’ll want to finance you again.’
You were fuming. You put up with his overbearing superiority complex without much argument, even though his arrogant face and callous cavilerity wore away at your patience every day. Not anymore. The audacity he had, to insult you in the rudest way possible hurt more than you ever wanted to admit.
You forced a sneer, even though you could barely swallow the growing lump in your throat, and you could feel tears beginning to shine on your eyes. ‘Well, at least I’ll finally have a man who can actually make me come.’ Your voice was harsh and you knew it would hurt him. Good.
Crosshair’s eyes widened for a moment, his glare deepening viciously. It was like his features were set in stone, etched so deep that they would leave permanent creases in his skin. He was livid, but managed to crack a hard, cruel smile. ‘You’re so pretty when you lie, doll.’ His voice was throaty and his eyes flashed furiously. You couldn’t meet his eyes, instead stomping back to Ran so hard and fast that you thought the heels of your shoes might break. You swore you heard him laugh harshly.
‘I was wondering where you were.’ Ran murmured in your ear, his fingers trailing up your arm like a large pasty spider. You swallowed, trying to compose yourself.
You forced a sweet smile at Ran. ‘I just needed a drink.’ You didn’t listen to Ran’s response, looking over your shoulder at Crosshair. He lifted a finger in mock greeting, his shoulders stiff. Hunter lingered nearby, his fingers pinching the bridge of his nose. He wasn’t the only one done with the party.
It would only be a few more hours, at least.

Hello, I wanted to make a request (:
I was wanting something were reader is a princess, and The Bad Batch is designated to protect her. But she is kinda oblivious to the ways of the galaxy, being the contrary of them. Could you please do it? You can make reader be gender neutral if you prefer
Thanks, and sorry if it’s confuse, english is not my first language. Have a nice day/night
This was such a fun prompt that I wrote it a bit longer than I usually do. And maybe I'll do a part 2??

You stood on the balcony, a cool evening breeze fluttering through your robes as you overlooked the sparkling lights of the city below. Your city. Your beautiful, beloved city.
So many nights you'd stood here alongside your mother and father, being told of the important work you would one day do for your land. You'd thought that day was far in front of you, and maybe you hadn't always paid attention to their advice because of it. Surely you would receive more formal preparations when the time was right. In the meantime, you could just relax up here and gaze across the lights and the rolling hills and the glistening waterfront... carefree and peaceful.
But the time was now. The day had come. Prepared or not, your people needed you, and it was your duty to finally push aside those idle daydreams and step into action.
"My dear." You could hear your father's rasping voice calling you from inside. You squared your shoulders and let out a steady breath as you gave one last look out at the city.
"Yes, papa," you answered him, returning inside and immediately kneeling beside him. He was propped up on a chaise surrounded by pillows and medicine and servants. You tried not to pay attention to any of it, looking your father earnestly in the eyes as he bid you farewell.
He cupped the side of your face with a shaking hand. "My dear. Words cannot express how I am both proud and heartbroken to see you leave like this. Proud as a king, to see you so courageously stand up for our people during this war. But heartbroken as a father, to see my little girl forced to grow up far too soon."
He paused to let out a few coughs. You shushed him, running a soothing hand over his shoulder.
"It's okay, papa. You can rest now. I will deliver this speech just as you or mother would. We will get the aide we need to push out these cruel invaders. I promise."
He nodded. You'd already discussed the matter throughout the week. The decision had been made. It was time for him to finally let you go now.
"Please be safe, my dear. And listen to your guards, they are sworn to protect you."
He motioned over to the door, where a line of five clone troopers were standing at attention.
"I'll try," you said teasingly. You weren't a particularly troublesome person, but you did like to do things your way sometimes. The royal guards had probably heaved a sigh of relief upon hearing they wouldn't have to be the ones to escort you to the Senate.
You leaned in and gave your father a parting kiss on the cheek, and then walked over to your new protectors.
"Princess," the one on the end addressed you. He was rather strange looking, with long, unkempt hair and a large blotch of ink on one side of his face. In fact, the whole crew was an odd-looking bunch. You'd heard tales of the Republic's clone army, but these men did not look like they'd been cloned from the same person.
"Sergeant," you responded with a polite nod.
"Please, call me Hunter."
"Very well. Lead the way, Hunter."
You looked back at your father as you followed the line of troopers out of the room, giving him a reassuring smile. Though, perhaps you meant to reassure yourself more. Even though you were putting on your best brave face, you had a sneaking suspicion deep inside that you really didn't know what you were getting yourself into.
* * *
"This is Wrecker, Echo, Tech, and Crosshair."
The Sergeant briefly pointed out each member of his squad as you passed them on your way into their ship. Each gave you a little nod or salute as they were introduced, and you returned the courtesy.
"Unusual names," you commented. The door to the ship closed behind you all with a hiss and you tried not to think about how this would be the first time you'd ever left your planet.
"They are not our official designations," responded the one called Tech as he shuffled off toward the cockpit and provided no other explanation. The one called Echo followed just behind him, giving you another polite salute as he passed. You frowned, but before you could ask someone to clarify, a large hand came down on your shoulder, jarring you slightly.
"You hungry, Princess? We were given all kinds of good treats for the trip!"
Wrecker, by far the largest of the bunch, grinned down at you through one clouded eye and a mess of scars on his face. He seemed friendly enough, but you still gulped in intimidation.
"Wrecker," Hunter said in a warning tone, coming to stand beside you. "Mind your manners."
"Oh, uh, sorry your Highness," Wrecker immediately took his hand off your shoulder and rubbed his neck sheepishly. But then he gave you a little wink before leaving. "But I wasn't kidding about those snacks."
"You'll have to forgive the boys," Hunter apologized. "They're not the most civilized bunch."
You gave a small smile, as if to say it was no big deal, but your nerves were suddenly buzzing all over. Hunter motioned for you to follow him further into the ship, and you went timidly.
"Now, we don't have any private rooms, but I was assured that wouldn't be a problem for you." He stopped at a row of bunks that had been lowered off the wall. "You can take your pick of the beds. We all sleep in shifts anyways. 'Fresher is just off to the side here. And cargo is down below, but if you need anything from the trunks we loaded earlier, just let one of the boys know and they'll grab it."
Your mouth grew dryer along with his words, the realization of what exactly you'd gotten yourself into sinking in further and further. This was all so foreign to you. You'd been raised in a palace, a sprawling building that was almost like a mini-city in and of itself. You'd been surrounded by staff who were as close to you as family, who knew exactly what you liked and what you wanted, who didn't have weird names or scary stories etched into their faces.
"Better settle in, Princess," a voice came from behind. You turned to see the fifth member, called Crosshair, sitting on a crate with a gun across his lap, partially obscured in shadow and a toothpick wiggling between his teeth. "It's going to be a long journey."
You gulped, wondering if his words were meant to be comforting or a warning. You quickly looked away from the spindly man and back at Hunter, who was giving you a sympathetic smile.
"Don't worry, your Highness. We'll get you there safely. You'll be in that Senate chamber before you know it."
Now those words were much more clearly meant to be of comfort. But before you could accept them and start to calm yourself down, you glanced passed the Sergeant's head to see the viewports in the cockpit just behind him suddenly light up with a hundred streaks of white. It was like the stars were stretching as the ship pushed through them at speeds you knew you could never wrap your head around. You felt your legs give out under you as you sat heavily onto one of the bunks.
You had been so focused on your goal of speaking at the Galactic Senate and getting aide for your people. You hadn't even thought about the whole stretch of space that had to be crossed first.
Not to mention all of the possible dangers that waited for you along the way.
* * *
You hadn't really been sleeping, just closing your eyes and pretending. It was hard to completely let your consciousness go in such a strange place, filled with people that may have been sworn to protect you, but were still strangers nonetheless. But you weren't sure how else to occupy your time. You'd tried going over your speech again, but found you couldn't quite focus on it. So you awkwardly lay yourself onto one of the bunks and closed your eyes, hoping that somehow the ship would go faster if you didn't have to look at it.
Unfortunately, it only seemed to make time slow down that much more. You were hyper-aware of every sound that reached you. Feet shuffling about. Metal creaking. The hiss of the refresher door opening and closing. The hushed voices of the troopers as they speculated about you and the mission.
Echo was curious about your speech, how exactly you planned to convince an entire auditorium of senators to care about your reclusive planet. Crosshair seemed skeptical of your abilities to pull it off. Tech pointed out there must be some advantage to having you go in place of your father, while also mentioning something about how they'd need to stop for fuel soon. Wrecker agreed with every comment made while Hunter tried to keep them from being too insensitive.
You cracked an eye open at one point to peek over at them, catching Hunter glancing over at you. You immediately squeezed your eye back shut and rolled over, trying to play it off, but you suspected the Sergeant was much sharper than that.
After what felt like the longest hour of your life, you eventually felt the ship jerk slightly. You allowed your eyes to fully open this time as you tried to figure out the odd shift you'd felt. You saw that the white streaks through the viewport had disappeared and it was just black. You rose from your bunk, drawn to it in an odd way. You made your way closer and your mouth hung agape as you stared out, baffled and horrified by the endlessness of space.
"This isn't right," Tech was muttering from his seat just beside where you stood, his fingers flying across a few holopads.
"It's so empty," you breathed, not really paying him attention.
"Exactly," he responded anyway. "This isn't right...."
"Tech, what's this?" Echo came into the cockpit. "I thought we were stopping for fuel?
"We did. It's not here."
"What's not here?"
"The fuel station, obviously!" Tech snapped, still clicking around on his devices as he looked for an answer.
"I thought we were stopping for fuel?" Hunter repeated Echo's question as he, too, joined the chaos in the cockpit. You were finally able to tear your gaze away from the windows and realized you were in the way as the soldiers started crowding in around you. Wrecker squeezed his body in, and you guessed Crosshair was probably in here somewhere, too. You shrunk into the wall as you watched them quarrel.
"We're supposed to be at the Nibien Station."
"Well why aren't we?"
"Are you sure you went the right way?"
"I input the coordinates exactly."
"Are you sure?"
"Of course I'm sure. I've double checked five different sources now and they're all the same. This doesn't make sense."
"How could a fuel station disappear?"
"Do you think it was attacked?"
"Attacked? Where's the debris then?"
"Well it can't have disappeared, that's impossible."
"Unless this isn't where it's supposed to be."
"I thought you said you had the right coordinates."
"Perhaps it's not the coordinates. Perhaps it's the ship's tracking system."
"You're saying our ship was tampered with?"
"It's a possibility. Anything is possible right now."
"Well never mind what happened, how about what we do next? We don't have the fuel to enter another jump."
"So we're stuck here?"
You felt like you were watching a holo-show. You weren't really in this room, you weren't affected by anything that was happening. Right? None of it made any sense so that must mean it wasn't real. It didn't feel real. It felt...
"I feel sick," you whispered, starting to slide down the wall as your legs grew weak. A hand grasped your elbow to steady you. Crosshair. You weren't sure where he'd come from, but now all five men in the room were looking at you and it made you feel even more faint.
"Don't worry, Princess," Hunter held his hands out, like he was quieting a frightened animal. "We'll figure this out."
"Yeah, we've been in worse situations than this before," said Wrecker. You knew he meant to be reassuring, but it didn't quite do the trick. If they were used to trouble, how would they keep you safe?
"It's just... there's just... so much..." you were muttering as you looked out the windows with wide eyes. You trembled alongside Crosshair as he continued to hold you up.
"Wrecker," said Hunter. "Take her back to her bunk. Get some rest, Princess. We'll get out of this in no time."
You let Crosshair guide you away from the wall so Wrecker could get an arm around you and carry you off. You weren't sure when you'd started shivering. In the back of your mind, you were quite embarrassed by how you were behaving. But all you could really focus on was trying to catch your breath.
"Here you go, Princess," said Wrecker as he set you down on the bunk. "It's okay to be scared, but you really don't have anything to worry about. We got this."
He gave you a wink before leaving you to sit alone with your anxiety. You could hear the boys resume their arguing but didn't dwell on any of their words. Instead, you took out your speech, a single piece of folded parchment that you'd stuck underneath your pillow earlier, and scanned over the familiar handwritten words, trying to remind yourself why you were here in the first place. Your people needed you. You needed to fight for them, no matter how scared you were to try.
"How are you doing, your highness?"
You looked up to see Echo had slipped out of the cockpit to rummage in a nearby crate. He looked over at you, not with sympathy or pity, but genuine curiosity.
"I didn't realize how big space was," you said sheepishly. Then you looked down at your speech and frowned. "And I didn't realize how short my speech is."
He stood and walked over to you, holding out a hand. His only hand. You hadn't noticed before, but the other arm hanging at his side ended in some kind of metal attachment. You tried not to stare as you handed over your speech.
Echo read through it quickly, obviously, since it wasn't very long, and you sat anxiously awaiting his reaction. He gave no indication what he thought of it until he'd finished and handed it back to you.
"Concise... and powerful," he smirked. "Not that we weren't trying before, but I'm going to do whatever it takes to get you to the Senate to make that speech."
You were pretty sure your face flushed at his assurances. You folded the parchment back, took a deep breath, and stood.
"So am I," you nodded. "What can I do to help?"
