I have truly never seen so much discourse for a hero/anti-hero that kills until I started liking jason todd. I have literally never seen so many people get hate for not condemning a fictional character who kills bad guys until now its shocking! and I mean that literally
maybe I’m the one missing something but there are plenty of heroes (not antiheroes but HEROES) who exist that choose a lethal method and people take that in stride? the only way I can make sense of this is that people are so attached to batman and his mythos; they literally imprint on him and his thinking ?? and now any slight against him or challenge against his righteousness is taken as if its a slight against them.
at the end of the day, to me, you can still support jason being lethal because the fictional characters hes killing aren’t actually dead. in this sense, specifically, I don’t see why real life morals should be applied to a comic world. he’s not killing out of bigotry and if he was, I would get the controversy! but if you can agree with brutally beating and invasions of privacy in the dcu because it’s “morally correct” within the universe, I can’t see an argument against jason’s methods being morally wrong as valid unless those views are applied to every aspect of batman comics. if we did that, then everyone who continued reading these comics would be getting the same treatment jason todd fans do. you cannot hold one character accountable to real life moral views and not the other(s)!

maybe i'm missing something but does cohost not show any numbers at all? i know i've gone on record saying that numbers (likes and reblogs etc) don't really mean anything, but it's definitely... weird... to have them be completely absent. somehow it makes the whole "posting experience" feel even more isolated and quiet than it does on here. i don't like it

hi! what are your thoughts on the calypso scene in botl? read your tags on the percy thoughts on gods post and wanted to know
short answer:
the scene w calypso exists for the audience and to foreshadow ethan.
long answer:
percy has never divided the world like this. percy as a character already knows the outcome of this conversation; things aren't black or white. percy is an incredibly empathetic, observant, and intelligent character, and in the post anon is referring to, he shows this by understanding why hades was bitter (third quote) while simultaneously calling the gods out for their behavior (last quote). percy has never done something bc "the gods are his family," and that includes retrieving the lightning bolt in tlt, the closest u could get to this. similarly, percy never hated luke bc he was leaving camp or betraying the gods, percy's feelings abt luke are personal, to the point where it's a bit blinding.
as a more specific example using this scene, percy doesn't leave calypso bc of the gods.
percy genuinely considers staying on ogygia and only leaves bc of his personal loyalty to his friends. no where in his decision to leave does he bring up the gods, as family or something good that needs to be defended.
this is one of the reasons he and athena have that conversation in ttc abt his fatal flaw. the gods are scared of percy bc his continued loyalty to them isn't guaranteed. percy's idea of good vs bad is very nuanced and personal and his loyalty is much the same. but the audience, primarily young since the books are middle grade, might not be on that same level of understanding. this conversation establishes to the audience what percy already knows but hasn't said. and the audience needs to understand this bc it's the crux of luke's character in tlo.
furthermore, this conversation foreshadows ethan's character. ethan's primary motivation is getting recognition for the minor gods, his mother, his family, himself. he's willing to sacrifice a lot for this.
ethan knows that nemesis isn't good. he's not siding w her bc she's good. he's siding w her bc she's family and she's the only one who paid him any attention, good or bad.
this is also why ethan switches sides. he's not loyal to a side bc it's good vs bad, he's loyal to whoever will help him and his goals, his family. calypso's words here perfectly set up ethan's character, and makes it easier for the audience to understand where he's coming from.

Here u can have this screenshot of a...idk a thing I found in my notes app this morning
I'm pretty sure when I wrote this I was considering a post-Endgame fic and I was thinking about the "historians will call them best friends" trope and I was like yes...but when they're actually best friends is that ever important? or is the importance of a best friend to history only when the label can be used to ignore a sexual/romantic queer relationship
So I was doing this thing where Bucky thought about how in a couple of years his legacy would probably be erased from Steve's because he was just his best friend, no big deal right? nobody wants to read about that anymore, they want to read about the epic love story with a female British agent and anyway this is literally all I have I'm so annoyed at myself for not following through more because it looks like it would've been amazing and very sad

I am throwing into the void (where u are), please consider: commenting on fanfics anywhere theyre posted, comment on posts and/or reblog a little thought u had in the tags or in ur own add on.
Because so much of fandom is just. Reaching out saying hey! I care about this! And hoping someone else who cares about it runs into it. Interact! Let the people know you are glad u ran into what they made! Make friends! Have many more awesome moments and chats where you all get to share that caring, excitement, to connect about it! You gotta reach out, at least a little, to start that conversation. Even if its just one little "!!!!!!<3" comment, or reblogging and putting in the tags what that scene a person giffed/mentioned/drew reminded u of your own thoughts on the thing.

you guys probably don’t care but i just need to like. rant for a minute because i’m so bewildered rn
i love silly little psychology stuff so i went onto personality database today to see if salad fingers was on it, and he is
which i agree with this, he’s totally an INFP!! but then i scrolled down and people are assigning personality types to the other characters???
IT’S SO CONFUSING HOW ARE PEOPLE COMING TO THESE CONCLUSIONS
they barely have any development or personality at all 😭😭😭 what are u doing… also they spelled mable wrong i am very upset at this information!! this isn’t gravity falls smh
most, if not all of these have like 0 comments explaining why they chose that type and it’s driving me insane
i’m most curious about the puppets though, especially hubert, since there’s quite a bit of votes on his profile. where are these people getting ENTP 9w1 from,, the only thing this guy does is scream, cry, and piss salad fingers off every so often (hubert is basically a newborn baby lmfaoo). if anything i think he’d be like. an IxFx type. but that’s just going off of how sal seems to percieve hubert. idfk how people are coming up with the types for jeremy and marjory
anyway i know you guys are most likely not into this like i am, sorry for the infodump. but. this kind of stuff irks me. i like things to be accurate (even though MBTI is pseudoscience like astrology. yes i admit it. but if the astrology girls can make weird ass claims so can i)!! though it’s interesting to see how people interpret the characters. also according to people on personality database jerry jackson is an ENFP 7w8?? i guess i can see it??
also.. this is 99% likely to be false (you can’t really get into a real person’s head like you can with a fictional character) but it’s funny to me to think that david and i share the same exact personality type. we are twinsies fr fr !!
OH AND ALSO THIS COMMENT UNDER SALAD FINGERS’ PROFILE.. WHAT

Everyone taking the Steamboat Willie design and making it do things Disney wouldn't sanction like....
you could have done that anyway. Disney would not have sued you for that. He didn't need to be in the public domain for you to do that.
Disney would have had a problem with you if you tried to sell Steamboat Willie. Not that you made him swear ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Public Domain is about being able to sell your version of the character, not "do whatever you like with it for free". You could do whatever you like with it on the internet anyway, you will not face consequence. Just as long as you didnt try to make money off of it - no one was going to come after you.

I think I tend to read htn as muir playing with tropes commonly used in tragedies to examine what we think is a tragedy/what tragedy even looks like when death isn't the end. That's the most shakespearian thing about her writing imo. I know I am constantly on about how htn is basically a shakespeare play but it IS and that's because she is doing a similar thing with her stories within the story. She is throwing out potential endings left and right and then subverting all of them. That's why I don't think everyone's encouragement to harrow to give up on keeping gideon safe really can be taken at face value. It's like. To use one example (but you literally could insert 5 different plays here) it's like when Isabella thinks her brother is dead. It's forcing the audience to think about the consequences for that but the terrible part is more that there was someone in power who could easily order a death or stop it on a whim. The point is not that harrow needs to learn to let gideon go for moral or self-actualization reasons imo. The point is that the death is a site of potential for harrow to either be manipulated into upholding john's goals or for her to reject the whole premise behind them by deciding gideon's life is more important
