Heya! How would the Inspectors (seperate) react to you using a mistletoe to get them to kiss you ? (talking about the inspectors from the Father Brown series)

Sorry for the delay, and better late than never right? Hope you like it!

Mistletoe reactions with the Inspectors:

Inspector Sullivan:

•it’s at Lady Felicia’s incredibly glitzy and glamorous Christmas Eve ball/soirée! So naturally our dear Inspector Sullivan is in his best dress uniform, medals and buttons polished.

•he feels a bit silly really, though he relaxes as he starts his second glass of champagne- Lady Felicia is always a generous hostess when it comes to providing food and drink.

•but he is avoiding the Lady in question, and searching desperately for you! He’s caught the odd glimpse of you here and there, but you continue to elude him!

•that is until, he collided with you in the doorway. You giggle, having planned the whole escapade! And now, with one arm round your waist, the Inspector feels happier too!

•little does he know, he’s walked right into your trap! But he finds out soon enough…you drag him closer by his lapels and crash your lips against his hotly, it’s a bit jarring at first, but then slowly you both settle into the kiss, practically fighting one another for dominance. It’s glorious! Goosebumps and shivers chase across your body, you’re virtually alight!

•but then, as quick as he’d bumped into you, you’d disappeared again, leaving a thoroughly confused, thoroughly kissed, hot Inspector to come chasing after you once more! He even grabbed the mistletoe from the above the door- the game was on!

Inspector Valentine:

•he’s pinning the mistletoe above the hallway door in your brand new home that you now share together- it’s your first Christmas as a married couple, so everything feels incredibly special.

•you’re passing by, having just finished the tidying, and your darling husband takes a chance. He pulls you into his arms with a seductive chuckle, nodding his head upwards so you see what he’s up to. And naturally, it makes you grin! Who could resist?!

•it seems to happen in slow motion. Your hands slide up his crisp shirt, one splays itself across his chest, over his heart to feel the steady beat of it. Your other hand gently grasps the back of his neck as you sink against his body, following him in the sloppy, tongue filled kiss that you gently moan into.

•the kiss goes on for what feels like an eternity. It’s a private conversation of mutual love and adoration. And when you both pull away you’re hot in the face and your eyes are ablaze with passion.

•…and that’s how you found yourself being pushed up against the wall, more passionate kisses being exchanged; clothes being tugged at blindly, as the kisses frantically turned into something more!

Inspector Mallory:

•he immediately knows you’re up to something the minute he sees you. You come into his office with a naughty grin on your face and a sway in your step that he recognises…he’d seen it only the night before, as you’d slowly stripped off for him before sinking down onto your knees, unbuckling his trousers and…he snaps out of the reverie as you reach the desk.

•he notices then that your hands are behind your back, and he glimpses for a tiny moment, the sprig of mistletoe. He grins and leans back in his chair, wheeling it backwards for you.

•Gerry pats his lap and feels his heart warm as you saunter closer, and sit down on his thighs. One of his hands slips straight between your legs, and the other cradles you closer to his body.

•he waits. And waits, and waits. Your grin just grows bigger! And then, moments before he’s about to burst with need, anger, hunger, desire! You drop the mistletoe into his lap and kiss him hungrily, biting at his lower lip furiously in the way that drives him absolutely wild!

•he’s putty in your hands! And speaking of hands, the one between your legs doesn’t stay idle, this is a battle of the wills- and he’s giving it all he’s got too!

•it’s a very good job that no new cases come in that afternoon and that the office door stays firmly shut!

A unnecessarily long and thought out list of Father Brown characters and what Hogwarts House they would be in:

Father Brown

Gryffindor

Ok so

I was leaning towards Ravenclaw

In fact I think I could make a very strong case for Ravenclaw

(See his inquisitive nature and want for knowledge)

But

BUT BUT BUT

Because of how strongly he believes in his morals (his faith, for one), as well as how often he chooses to take situations into his own hands, I think this shows his Gryffindor side

Not to mention he’s a Weasley

Also Gryffindors are typically pretty trusting individuals who like to see the good in others, at least a certain category of Gryffindors

And I think Father Brown really embodies this

Mrs McCarthy

Slytherin

Hmmmmmm ok

This one was kinda hard

I picked Slytherin because of how self-reliant and goal-oriented she is

She’s also a perfectionist and expects others to meet those standards

Also once someone has earned her respect, she is super devoted to them, but not in the same way a Hufflepuff would be

If that makes any sense

Also she’s kind of a bitch

More like she’s very assertive with her opinion

Her being a Slytherin isn’t a bad thing, though

I think she’s a great example of a “good” Slytherin

Sid

Hufflepuff

Ok ok HEAR ME OUT

I was gonna say Gryffindor

But I think one of Sid’s most defining traits is his loyalty to those he cares about

Although he does have the traits you would associate with a Gryffindor (experience-orientated, stubborn, strong moral center, playful, etc.), I think his overall loyalty, honesty (ironic for a criminal), dependability, and good-heartedness tip the scales

He really could be either

But I do honestly think that his sense of loyalty and how protective he is of his friends (which can be seen particularly when Flambeau is around), makes him a Hufflepuff

I might be a little bias because I’m a Hufflepuff but-

Lady F

Ravenclaw

This one was so hard my god

I think she show traits of all the houses

She has the ambition, drive, and adaptability of a Slytherin

The creativeness, wittiness, and curiousness of a Ravenclaw

The fairness, genuineness, and open-mindedness of a Hufflepuff

AND the passion, stubbornness, and the tendency to live in the moment that can be seen in Gryffindors

And unlike other characters who show traits of multiple houses, I think she displays them all pretty equally

None of them really strike me as outweighing the others

That being said I had to pick one

I chose Ravenclaw because of how observant and willing to learn she is

She just seems to stand out so much amongst the others in the Pres Crew, yet she also blends in so well

And we just see her being able to read situations and being able to fit in anywhere (season 3 episode 1 with the crazy old guy comes to mind.)

Idk why, but this just feels very Ravenclaw to me?

I’m kind of rambling at this point

But yeah, I could see a case for literally any house

Bunty

Gryffindor

This one wasn’t hard

I just think Bunty is your stereotypical Gryffindor

Similar to Sid, I think she does show traits that could be attributed to Hufflepuffs, but I don’t think they are at the forefront of her personality enough

She is super experience-oriented, blunt, playful, stubborn, and idealistic

Also if we are talking the stereotypical Gryffindor- irresponsible

That’s NOT to say that she doesn’t own up to her mistakes, because I think she often does (at least when it’s most important), but she is very good at getting herself into those sort of situations

Valentine

Gryffindor

Ok so

I think he’s a pretty stereotypical Gryffindor, just like Bunty

That one scene in season 1 episode 8 during the treasure hunt, where he basically challenged Father Brown: I just feel like that gave Gryffindor vs Gryffindor vibes

I can’t explain it

Also he’s just very blunt and practical

Idk he just give Gryffindor vibes

Like every time he’s on screen he just does shit that makes me go “ah yes, a Gryffindor”

You could probably make an argument for another house, but it would be hard to change my opinion

Sullivan

Ravenclaw

*sighs*

This gay lil guy

I bounced back and forth between Slytherin and Ravenclaw quite a bit

I could argue Slytherin because of how goal oriented and how much of a perfectionist he is

But… it just doesn’t fit right

Ravenclaw feels more accurate

I think my biggest argument would be how logical thinking he is

Like he usually doesn’t get the right guy, but you can always see exactly how he got there

He’s super intelligent, but he doesn’t connect the right dots because he thinks about things so logically, and this is Kembleford we are talking about

Things are rarely logical

And he knows this, which brings me to my next main argument

It’s incredibly evident in his return eps, but it can even be seen a bit in seasons 2 and 3- Sullivan actually listens to Father Brown’s line of thought

There are multiple scenes where you can actually see the moment that his mind snaps to the same kind of thinking as Father Brown (the sex hotel ep comes to mind)

I think this shows how important understanding the situation is to him

Also listen he doesn’t have the Charm/Social Ability to be a Slytherin 😭

He’s just an awkward lil guy!

Mallory

Gryffindor

Mallory

Mallory Mallory Mallory

I just…

I really had to shake the bias outta me for this one

I know a lot of people really like Mallory, and I can see why, I just have never liked him

He rubs me the wrong way

Although I will admit he can be really fucking funny

I think Mallory doesn’t show enough ambition to be a Slytherin, and I don’t think he’s hard working enough to be a Hufflepuff

I also just can’t see an argument for Ravenclaw

But I do think he shows a lot of Gryffindor traits

He’s very reckless and stubborn

He absolutely HATES being wrong

He’s also kind of prone to procrastination: he usually jumps to the easiest solution

But not because that’s the logical conclusion, but rather because it’s just the easiest

ALL THAT BEING SAID

I do also think he exhibits a sort of looseness that is so distinctly Gryffindor

Similar to Valentine he just gives the Vibes™️

And I feel like that he is just a lot more outgoing and loud than any of our other inspectors

And I actually think that’s a good thing

His brand of Gryffindor is very distinct than any other in the show

I actually think he’s a lot more unafraid to act than our other inspector

If he thinks he is on the right track, he’s much quicker to get his guy

Whether that be because he’s passionate or because he wants it to be over with is up for debate

IM SORRY I’m trying to be positive I swear

Anyways

Goodfellow

Hufflepuff

I mean…

Do I-

Do I have to defend this one?

Idk guys I feel like this one’s pretty obvious

Like I think he definitely shows traits of other houses

(I see you ambition)

But that being said, the traits he shows of other houses, they all elevate his Hufflepuffness

I just

I could give evidence but I don’t feel like I need to

We all know what I mean

(You could make a good argument for Gryffindor I think, but I’m ignoring that❤️)

Flambeau

Slytherin

Starting at the beginning of the series, I think he’s just a pure Slytherin

He’s ambitious, driven, goal focused, charming, and he absolutely does what he has to to get what he wants

We see this in The Blue Cross when he abandons his partner, and in The Judgment of Man when he manipulates Lady F (there are more examples but those were the first two that came to mind)

That being said, as the series progresses, I dare say he shows a hint of Hufflepuff loyalty👀

I think it starts off as that Slytherin feeling loyalty that I mentioned earlier with Mrs M, but I think that it started morphing into something that feels distinctly different

Idk if that makes ANY sense

All this being said, I do think he is still a Slytherin

He’s just becomes less of that stereotypical villain sort of Slytherin and more of a Mrs M type Slytherin

Susie

Gryffindor

Uhhhh

Idk

This one was kind of hard just because I don’t feel very passionate about Susie

*coughs awkwardly*

But hear me out

She’s very blunt and practical

Not to mention she is very stubborn and doesn’t back down

If Mrs M spoke to me the way she spoke to Susie in season 1, I would simply cease to exist

I think she Is very strong willed in that aspect

But like I said, someone that connected to her more might be able to convince me of a different house

But this just felt like a good bet

Blind ‘Arry

Hufflepuff

I would die for this one

I’m so confident in this

You don’t understand

He’s a Hufflepuff

He’s so genuine

And honest

And wears his heart on his sleeve

And he’s so compassionate

Always willing to lend a helping hand

I just love him so much

Mrs M and him would make the perfect Slytherpuff couple

trying to find father brown peeps on tumblr and i am seeing people complaining about sullivan being "made hetero" in series ten and my siblings in christ y'all need to rewatch episode five you can't tell me sullivan's reactions to flambeau and mrs devine weren't pure disaster bisexual panic!

also remember fam you can still write fanfic where he's bisexual or gay or ace or anything no matter what they do in canon (i have only watched the first six eps so idk what happens in the last four, but even if he and isobel have a full-on romance that doesn't even actually mean he couldn't be *canonically* bisexual, let alone affect one's ability to headcanon him that way). in my heart of hearts, lady felicia ran away with flambeau at the end of series nine and canon can never take that away from me, lmao. i have no intention of letting anything in the canon dissuade me from the position that inspector sullivan is 110% a disaster bi.

- all those secret little glances. Whenever you're at the same event, he'll always make sure to give you lots of eye contact and little smiles from across the room.

oh my goddd domestic sid/sullivan thought re: making tea (the drink not the meal lol)

much like father brown, sid likes his tea Sweet™️. so when sullivan makes it, appalled at the amount sid adds, he tries very slowly and carefully to cut down the sugar intake in his tea. lowering from three cubes, to two and a half, to two. only he never makes it past two cubes before sid catches him out, complaining it’s not sweet enough.

on the flip side, sid is very used to putting sugar in tea. and despite how sweet (no pun intended) he is gonna be in behind the bars with remembering that sullivan does Not take sugar, he more often than not forgets, makes tea on autopilot, and feels highly offended when sullivan delicately spits out the sickly sweet tea (as delicately as one can spit out tea, because it’s sullivan).

If the Presbytery Crew Had Superpowers

I was scrolling through the Superpowers Wiki the other night and couldn’t help myself. None of these are really a surprise, but it was fun to put names to some of the things they already do.

Father Brown: I was torn between Enhanced Wits and Retrocognition, because obviously the man’s a genius who can practically see into the past. Team Combinations, though, while not technically a one-person superpower, also seems to fit. There wouldn’t be a presbytery crew without the Father, after all, and it’s never just his skills that go into solving a case.

Mrs. McCarthy: Time Stopping. There’s no way she gets all of her parish secretarying done and finds the occasional body and makes award-winning scones without occasionally stretching an hour or two out. Perhaps this is why villages like Kembleford can feel so sedate; there’s a Mrs. McCarthy around hitting pause on the flow of time every few days.

Lady Felicia: Paper Manipulation. Not just in terms of money (but, naturally, in terms of money), but in terms of documents. The slick way she slides important forms that aren’t hers into her handbag isn’t stealing, it’s artistry.

Sid: First, Pheromone Manipulation. This requires no explanation, because it’s Sid. A close second is Access Manipulation, though in his case I would expand the definition to mean not just access to places (e.g. lock-picking prowess) but to people. Lady Felicia could also count this as a minor superpower for herself under this definition, given her knack for maneuvering people.

Sullivan: Self-detonation. Some of Sullivan’s best moments are when he’s been cramming down all of his emotions and reactions until he can’t hold them anymore, and then just explodes. This explosion is often highly effective, albeit with collateral damage to his relationships with others. Note that Sullivan’s emotional explosions can encompass things other than anger/upset. Sudden and unexpected love confessions, anyone?
