Dread gripped Jazz's chest as she raced down into the lab two steps at a time. She'd always dreaded that this day might come-- that her parents would make good on their threats.

The shouts from the lab promised as much.

There's a figure on the table in the corner. She's always hated that table, could always imagine-- a little too vividly-- a person strapped to it.

She need no longer imagine.

Jazz's head swims, her stomach rolling. She almost doesn't notice the too-wide shoulders and the hair, black-and-white rather than one or the other.

There's someone strapped to the examination table in her parents' lab.

It's not Danny.

Writing Log: September 2023

I thought September couldn't be worse than August. Well, life continued to be a cunt, and as of Sept 20, fiction also became a cunt. Looking at you, Jujutsu Kaisen.

I wrote a fair bit in the first half of the month, but the second half wasn't as cooperative. Looking at you again, Jujutsu Kaisen. Though my health seesawing and stress levels being through the roof the whole month didn't help...

October, I am begging you to be nice.

the ghost in me was true (but you were haunted too) [JJK, goyuu, amnesia AU where Yuuji disappears for over a decade and reappears without any memories, and Gojou's left to navigate a relationship with the ghost of his lover]: 15,167

(and he had said) darling, your looks can kill, so now you’re dead [JJK, goyuu, age reversal AU featuring first-year student Gojou and his mentor Yuuji; Gojou provokes Yuuji in a crowded train car and gets a little more than he bargained for]: 14,424

everything burned, as promised [JJK, goyuu, post-236 AU where Gojou travels back in time with the intention of stopping Kenjaku and Sukuna by any means necessary, and Yuuji's raised like a lamb to the slaughter]: 11,005

The age reversal fic isn't done, but I'd just finished the second chapter when 236 came out, and I wound up switching gears to the time travel fic. I'll hopefully be able to go back to it once I get the 236 feels out of my system.

Total: 40,596

The JJK total word count is now 541,730. My number of ideas is now 72. I've given up illusions of writing even half of them, but it's still fun sketching them out.

Posted word count: 11556 (stucky roommate AU) + 7137 (goyuu role reversal heat sex) + 17639 (grimmichi rival hitmen AU) + 6056 (goyuu kidnapping canon divergence) + 5157 (Yuuji PoV of deaged Gojou fic) + 5907 (gojou/yuuji/gojou time travel) = 53,452

The Joker was apprehended, sitting on the ground as Batman guarded him, but the kid--"Bruce Wayne's newest ward, how tragic! Hehehe!"--was nowhere to be found. Nightwing and Red Hood desperate searched the warehouse until a shuffling noise grabbed their attention.

A kid, black haired just like the kid in the Joker's broadcast, crawling out of a pile of boxes. "Is it over?" the boy asked quietly.

Nightwing guided him to the only exit, unfortunately walking past the boy's own kidnapper. "Yeah, kid. It's over. Come on-"

Like a shot, the boy rushed the Joker and kicked him right in the balls.

The Joker wheezed like a dying squeaky toy. Red Hood froze. Nightwing immediately snatched the boy up by the armpits, but all that did was give the boy the height to attack again, punting Joker in the jaw. The clown went down and cracked his head on the floor. He did not get back up.

There was a moment of silence before Red Hood roared with laughter, his helmet distorting the sound.

For the ask game, I want to ask for Guardian Gem and/or Stress! After all, they did do that farm, and Gem built her elven village by the sea...

"Oh, come on man," Etho says, voice wavering. "Mining fatigue has got to be cheating, right? Right?"

Gem can't stop the glee from leaking into her voice as she follows after him. "Oh, come on, you know I can't help it these days!" she says. "It's not my fault it's easier to catch prey when it can't move its arms."

"Prey?" says Etho.

"I mean, unless you're going to fight back this time."

"You're pointy, man!"

Gem laughs, but she can't deny that 'pointy' is probably accurate at this point. It's nearly as accurate as 'prey'. At some point, this had turned from 'she needed to collect Etho's head' to 'hey, shouldn't he be better at fighting' to 'she should show him how to fight' to 'he's a struggling player in my territory and it's my job to finish him off while he's weak' to 'he's weak, he's prey.'

She'd say that it's a struggle, controlling the elder guardian instincts. She might like to say it's a struggle. She probably should say it's a struggle. Something about holding back her new instincts to hunt down and kill and drag into the waves and all that. The urge to immobilize with her poison and her aura and her fangs and to tear apart. To trap. All of that.

She should say she doesn't like those things, but...

"Etho... Where'd you go, Etho? If you're placing blocks that's also not fair."

"Then stop giving me mining fatigue, then!" Etho says.

"Why would I do that?" Gem says, giving up the pretense that she 'doesn't control it'--they both know she does. "If I do that, you'll be able to start digging to hide, and then I'll never get to eat you!"

"Why do all the monsters want to eat me, huh?"

"You know, if you just learned to fight back well, maybe this wouldn't be a recurring problem for you," Gem lectures, and then her instincts catch sight of the hole he's dug himself into. Oh, good! He's even trapped himself to try to hide from her!

Silly Etho. Guardians can see through walls.

Her tail lashes.

And she's the rare lucky guardian that can dig through them, too!

She throws the wooden sword down. Now that they've done away with pretenses, it's not like she needs the thing. Then, she lunges.
