An uprising that created a dystopian Seoul gave birth to a monstrous judge and a live court trial setting.

The Devil Judge episode 1; A Monster Emerges

Episode 1 of The Devil Judge begins in a dystopian Seoul with chaos everywhere in the streets. There’s a unknown plague covering the entire country that made companies fallen and people homeless. The chaos which made the poor lead an arson and acts of terrorism. This created the Gwanghwamun riot and the Social Responsibility Foundation has send out a press conference.

The virus that created the monster

President Heo says a powerful speech. The economic troubles are part of the past. The plague will be forgotten as it’s been resolved by the government. While President Heo speaks this event, the important guests are being introduced: Seo Jeong Hak who is the Chairman of Social Responsibility Foundation, Cha Kyung Hee (Minister Of Justice), Min Yong Shik (Minbo Group Chairman) and Park Duman (Saram Media Chairman). The president also promises to create more jobs and to bring back Korea to the grand country as it was before. We also see on the screen how donations kept on rolling and another character was introduced. Jung Sun Ah (Executive Director of CSR Foundation) commented how the President overreacts whenever a camera is on his face. They know that he’s a clown and the attitude never goes away.

The president adds, they must rectify their law and order. He has passed a bill for a powerful judicial reform which allows the public to participate as jurors. Im not sure if that is such a good idea. Here comes Kang Yohan who is being introduced by the President as a ruthless judge. Judge Kang will preside over the trials and hands out sentences in a live television setting. Here comes the judge who exudes with much charisma and suave. Alot of concerned questions were raised like how the live broadcast is a anti-humanitarian act and it’s only for show. Another comment was mentioned that Judge Kang punishes too severely and are inconsiderate of the weak. Judge Kang interrupts and asks “Who’s weak?”. The journalist made a sample of the disadvantage but he retaliates that they are still the defendants. He mentions that he doesnt care if there’s a powerful person or not. Another journalist asked if he can hand down a hefty sentence on a defendant for the live show. A sample was made with Chairman Joo Il Do, who is known for being well connected. He then makes a statement saying “I am power!” and how he exercises the judicial power that was delegate to him and who is above him (the public). He then ends his speech which made many people impressed especially the President and the Minister of Justice. After the speech, Sun Ah congratulates him for the sexy power he has and the rest of the influential people stares at him.

Kim Gaon

We see another character who Kim Gaon using a public transportation watching the speech of Kang Yohan about to go to The Supreme Court. He then enters the office of Chief Justice Min Jungho who is apparently his former Professor. Gaon and Jungho discusses the live program which made Gaon question Yohan and his intentions. Jungho describes Yohan as no ordinary judge. He is a revolutionist who will eradicate court corruption. He is the nation’s only hope.This made Gaon realize that Yohan is extremely popular. As the riots dies down Jungho compares Yohan as a monster that emerges from turbulent times due to the absurb bills he keeps on passing. Yohan doesnt thinks more of a politician, politician for the people. Gaon realizes how Chief Jungho has a dislike with Yohan and asks why he wants him to be part of the live show. Jungho wants Gaon to observe Yohan and compares himself to Judas.

Gaon and Yohan finally meets at Yohan’s office. When Gaon left, Yohan opened his personal information file with a picture of his parents an a article title “We Just Wanted To Do A Good Deed”, “Conned Restaurant Owner Couple Kills Themselves”. He makes a comment on how he looks just like the father. I wonder if Yohan has met the parents before and if he has anything to do with them being dead.

Gaon enters to his office and we’re introduced with Oh Jinjoo (Associate Judge). They both introduced themselves and Jinjoo made a comment about Gaon’s smile. She mentions how he looks good when he smiles and realizes that there’s a criteria on picking judges base on their visuals. Being charming enough creates power.

Bus incident

As Gaon leaves, we see a group of young students crossing with their teacher. There’s also a incoming bus that is speeding and out of control and is about to enter the Supreme Court entrance. This prompts Gaon to be alert as he sees a young girl about to get hit and covers to protect her. While he does, Yohan was seen shooting the bus driver which made the bus topple. The bus is about to explode with the driver still in it. Gaon continues to be a good citizen and saves the driver on time. There’s a news coverage with the important members of the live show watching. The coverage mentions a arrest warrant for the chairman of JU Chemical Joo Il Do (who was at the presscon) was suspended and the kindergarten driver is connected as a act of protest. The Ministry of Justice says to the President that its a challenge to the authority but SongA responses and says its a outcry. CEO Joo created an incident leak of toxic waste water. Another comment was raised that the many of the public are still out of work and the government can’t collect taxes. If they dont solve this, another revolt would break out. They move on to the live show and asked the Saram Media Chairman how the process is doing. The president mentions that Yohan wanted to do this case personally and makes sure that it goes well.

Gaon sees Yohan leaving and thanks him for saving his life but comments on how Yohan didnt hesitate to shoot. He asked Yohan if he was going to kill the bus driver and Yohan answers back to Gaon with a response like “If i had to?!”. Gaon unsure with his intentions, Yohan counteracts and says if he didnt do anything the bus wouldve continued to spiraled straight. Gaon says that Yohan doesnt care if the bus driver dies or not and makes a calculation stating saving 2 is better than 1.

1st case preparation

There’s a meeting discussing what case they’ll do for the first live show. Yohan wants to take on the JU Chemical case as his first states that it’s a appropriate case and is confident that he’ll go by the law. Yohan makes it clear that its not the people’s court and just wants to make the trials transparent.

Chairman Joo and his lawyer discusses before the first trial. They talk about how hard it is to get clear evidence related to environmental issues. Since itll be difficult to find evidence they’ll plead not guilty. If things turned not well, the judge will charge them with professional negligence resulting death which will lead to 5 years imprisonment. Chairman Joo asks if he can trust the lawyer and says that he will.

Gaon and Jungho talks privately. Jungho asks why Yohan wants the toxic waste case to be his first. Gaon answers the obvious. Jungho also added that Chairman Joo is the biggest donator of the Social Responsibility Foundation. The reason why Yohan is there is because of the Foundation and the Ministry of Justice being his back support. Jungho thinks he has a ulterior motive, despite being in a awkward situation and yet still took the case. Ji Yoonsik and Yohan discusses the bus incident. Ji tells Yohan that he doesnt want to create a scandal and thinks the incident is carelessness but Yohan mentions that its noise marketing (since the incident is related to Chairman Joo). I assume that Yohan only cares for his status and following the law without caring how it affects others.

Gaon makes a comment that the 3 year old is a daughter of the bus driver is part of one of the many deceased related to the JU Chemical Case. The grandmother committed suicide over the case. Gaon internally looks frustrated after Yohan looks like he doesnt care. He says that Yohan rejected Chairman Joo’s warrant and yet want to incarcerate the bus driver. Yohan mentions that the bus driver was caught on the scene but Gaon talks back and says that they must take the motive into consideration. Yohan says that despite being a victim, does this give them a right to hurt others? Well you have to agree with Yohan on that one though. Gaon then mentions that the bus driver is injured and Yohan says that they have a medical detention center so the issue is solved which lead Gaon to become quiet. Do you think Gaon is putting his emotions over the law?

A news report about the incident broke out that the child named Yu died from the toxic waste water leakage incident of JU Chemical. The grandmother of the child committed suicide. The result of the incident led 11 dead, the rest of the alive victims are receiving treatment.

Gaon and Jungho ate out. Gaon made a private investigation on Cha Kyunghee. During the time Chairman Joo caused trouble as a startup business, Ms. Cha was the person who helped him as a elite Seoul prosecutor. To return the favor when Cha became a assembly woman Chairman Joo is the head of her campaign club. Jungho made a assumption that theyre both helping each other and since Yohan was forced to be part of it, he still wanted to put Joo on a trial. Cha is watching on the sidelines with no objection. What do you think are the intentions of Cha and Joo? It’s not for the good right? Its all speculations for now. They compared the scenario as someone’s first love. Gaon continues to spy on Yohan to find more evidence and puts in spy devices around his office. Yohan almost caught him as he entered the office. Gaon continues to spy and spots Chairman Joo’s lawyer about to enter a restaurant meeting Kang Yohan. Gaon and Jungho meets up after discussing the scenes which makes them even more suspicious over Yohan. They just need to watch him closely at court.

Gaon’s childhood

As Gaon comes home, we are introduced to Soohyun who is a RIT Lietenant who is a childhood friend of his. Soohyun compares the 2 of them and says how the public loves judges with different backgrounds. We learned that Gaon doesnt want to move out as the place reminds him of his parents. Gaon and Soohyun continues to joke around, Soohyun mentions that she has a crush on him but he had rejected her. Gaon didnt want to lose his only best friend.

While Soohyun was doing her rounds, Soohyun hears a woman screaming for help. A highschool student was being attacked on the streets and saves her. This makes Soohyun becoming a likeable character. Ironically a poster above with the caption “A safe Korea will be realized from now on.”. Not so safe yet isnt it?

Ms Jung and Ministry Of Justice meeting

Ms Jung starts the discussion stating that the sponsors are becoming worried with the upcoming trial. The reason why theyre holding the mock trial is to ease the citizen’s anger over criminals. Suspicious to why they put a businessman on trial and if he receives a serious punishment, itll become a negative precedent for the business people. Cha says a rhetorical question if Yohan has ever made a mistake, but he hasnt. Song still adamant and wants the case to be a lighter trial. Asks why Cha is adamant about this being the first case and also mentions that Ms Song has overstepped by being arrogant. Before Jung leaves she commented on how everything from the office to her expensive car was paid by her foundation. Damn, straight fire. I like her. She also adds statistics information that the Ministry of Justice lacks budget and added that her foundation should create more prisons themselves. OMG

The First Live Trial

Before the trial begins, Yohan begins to be reminded of his past with a shadow that looked like Gaon surrounded with fire.

How to watch the trial?

Install the DIKE app, tap the statue and you’re in! While watching the trial 2 buttons will appear: Red button - To be punished and otherwise they can tap the other button. Votes will be collected and visualized in court. The judge will be able to see the people’s opinions and decide easily.

The court case is about a chemical company who caused sewage leak and didnt do any treatment. The water was used by the residents for their daily lives.

Yohan comes a conclusion and decides that there was intent murder. Five years is the maximum. As mentioned during the beginning of the episode, Yohan became a monstrous judge by passing insane bills. One of the bills is about the number of years accumulated for the sentences, based on the victims. To make it more dramatic since its a live tv show, he lowered down the blinds and lights mentioning all the names of the victims. He also mentions that there were 11 dead and 36 disabilities. The case resulted from 5 to 235 years of imprisonment, which equates to a life sentence. Ministry Of Justice watching from behind the tv looked in shock. While Yohan mentions the names the President continues to watches and compliments how Yohan is a true master.

The trial resulted to professional negligence and 235 years of imprisonment. The ratings also were soaring high and the Ministry of Justice is pissed while the President smirks. Yohan speaks to Chairman Joo and wishes him a long life..

HAH.

The live trial ends and a victim’s relative thanks Judge Yohan. While the victim’s relative was crying and hugging Yohan, Yohan was seen yawning as if he was bored. Gaon saw it and continued to stare at him. Yohan stared back acting like a devil. We see a flashback of Yohan handing out a USB and mentions that there will be a flash of the victim’s pictures will be put out during the show. Yohan then smirks at Gaon. The scene fades with Yohan standing facing off with Gaon. A flashback of his tragic past shows him and a look-a-like Gaon (Yohan’s brother or a former colleague maybe) facing each other surrounded by which looks like a burnt old church. They both continued to stare at each other as the scene concludes. It looks like there’s a past which needs to be disclosed.

so i understand throughout history that people of color were discriminated against but i included some of peter’s friends in specific periods

“You are far more beautiful than Aphrodite herself,” Peter mused, brushing Y/N’s hair behind her ear gently. Y/N giggled as she walked hand in hand with the man she loved, “I’m glad you think I’m more beautiful than your Aunt, Peter.”

He shook his head, watching his feet hit the ground, “she’s said to be the most beautiful woman in the universe. I would beg to differ.”

Y/N’s cheeks turned a deep red, biting her lip as she examined the jewels of a nearby shop. “You’re such an amazing man,” she unveiled, squeezing his hand. “Well, demigod, as my father would say,” he joked, looking up at the sky.

“Oh, please forgive me, son of Apollo. I did not mean any harm,” she dramatically exasperated. He smiled at the action, kissing her cheek. He enjoyed days like these, basking in the warmth of the sun, all thanks to his father, walking through Greece with the woman he loved. A mortal.

His mother, much like the love of his life, was a mortal who had fallen under the charisma and charm of one of the twelve Olympians. Peter enjoyed the mortal life, since it played a part in him meeting who he thought was his soulmate. But he could never run away from his godly powers. She was his world, and nothing would ever change that.

Y/N played with the leaves on one of the trees nearby. Peter thanked the merchant before walking a few steps towards his love, noticing something wrong as he watched her conflicted gaze. “What’s wrong?” He asked as he wrapped his arms around her waist to spin her around.

“Herakles is going to free Prometheus, and I-I want to help,” she nervously fumbled with the cloth on his chest, avoiding his gaze. Peter shook his head, backing up slowly, “no. Y/N I won’t let you. Zeus, he won’t approve if he finds out.”

Y/N sighed, “that’s why he is not going to find out. I am not going to do anything drastic other than help him find a ship to get to Mount Caucus. That is all.” She wrapped her arms around his neck, eyes slightly begging for him to say yes.

“I-I,” he wanted to respect her wishes, but he was afraid of what could happen, “that is all? Just the ship?” Y/N nodded her head at the question, playing the hair on the back of his neck.

“Please don’t get hurt,” he admitted, giving in. She smiled widely, planting a quick kiss on his lips. “I have to go meet him soon to lead him to the ship. I will be back before the sun sets today, so maybe we could meet where we always do?”

Peter nodded, kissing her forehead, “and I’ll be there, waiting.” Y/N smiled widely, excited.

Hours past after Y/N left with Peter waiting anxiously as his palms sweat with anticipation. He stood on the balcony of his abode, watching as the sun fell; Y/N nowhere in sight.

He waited until the moon held high above his beloved polis. He knew something was wrong, this feeling in his gut telling him so. While worrying about his beloved, Peter bolted to the only place he could think of that could possibly explain this.

“Zeus!” Peter shouted storming the gates of Olympus.

“Where is she? What did you do to her?!” Tears were running down his face, obviously distressed, knowing the answer that was most likely going to be revealed. Zeus stood, unamused and disinterested. “Prometheus created the mortals. Now, look at what they’ve become! They are monsters and all they do is kill each other.”

Peter clenched his fists, charging towards the man and pushing him into a wall. “Tell me where she is Zeus!” He shouted, his spit flying over the face of the center of Peter’s rage.

The old god pushed Peter away, and ultimately onto the floor, before he adjusted his clothes. “She was going to free Prometheus, so I sent her where all of the other souls go when they die; with Hades.”

“No,” he whispered, shaking his head in disbelief, “you’re lying.” He stood up from the floor slowly, weak with the new-found information.

“Her father was an acquaintance of Prometheus. She enabled Herakles to gain a ship. I had to stop her, Peter. Soon enough, I will stop Herakles too,” Zeus reasoned, not feeling anything for the boy and his lost love.

“You’re suppose to be a God of justice. Is killing an innocent just?” Peter screamed, getting into the face of the God of Gods. Anger, rage, despair, and disappointment were laced across his features.

“I will not be disrespected by a descendant of mine, especially one that’s only a mere demigod,” Zeus’ voice sounded through the entire mountain of Olympus.

Peter, clearly distressed, decided to run as far away from the place as possible. He ran until his feet burned, until cuts formed, until his tears blurred his vision when he finally stopped, dropping to his knees in a field of flowers.

His tears didn’t stop, possibly worsening as he admired the field of flowers around him. “She adored these,” he spoke solemnly to himself, the tears pooring as if they were rain.

He sat on his knees, covering his face with his hands, the ones that she loved to hold. From his belt, Peter brought up a sharp blade. He rubbed the tears in his eyes with the back of his hand, steadying his breathing.

“We will meet again my love, under a new moon with new stars, we will meet again,” the man wept, holding the blade in his right hand. Shaking, he brought the blade up to his left forearm, making a swift gash into his velvet skin. He let out a gasp as the vivid red spewed from his veins and onto the flowers painting them red.

He let out a strangled sob as more and more tears fell, grabbing the blade with his left hand to repeat the same action on the other arm. A small, melancholic smile appeared on his lips, “see you soon, my beloved.”

Laughing bitterly in his own state of delirium from the blood loss, he laid onto the ground, laughs quickly turning to cries again then finally, into nothing as he closed his eyes for the last time. 1607 England

Y/N lied in a field on a brisk fall day wrapped in the embrace of the man she loved. “Peter,” she giggled into the English air as his lips attacked the entirety of her neck, his breath tickling her. “I can’t get enough of you,” he whispered in her ear, biting it playfully. She laughed, cupping his face with the both of her hands and bringing his face in front of hers. “You’ll be the death of me Peter Parker.” She leaned in, pressing her lips onto his as he held himself up on one hand with the other on her waist. He pulled away, piecing his thoughts together to plan what to say next. “What’s wrong?” Y/N asked with concern, brushing her hand on his jawline. He sighed, yet a hopeful look graced his eyes. “Hear me out,” he began, “what do you think about starting a whole new life together?” Y/N furrowed her brows, taken aback, “what do you mean, Peter?” He sat on the ground next to her, running a hand through his hair. “I love you so much Y/N,” he gushed as the girl beside him sat up. “I love you too,” she smiled softly, holding his hand in hers and looking deeply in his eyes to see the true sentiment. “Well, there’s talks about the new world, love,” he nervously spoke. She quirked a brow, intrigued by the topic. “We could go there and start on a clean slate.”

“W-Where would we go?” She questioned, her mind filled with the multitude of futures they could have together. “Well,” he cleared his throat, “there are so many places, but I’ve heard of Jamestown the most, or maybe Roanoke. People are fleeing from the King, so why can’t we? Your parents would never allow you to marry me. They don’t want their only daughter to marry a peasant’s son, so this is the perfect chance to start our lives.”

Y/N sat there, biting her lip and contemplating the idea. “You can take some of the money from your parents to pay for the tickets,” he spoke softly, looking at the skyline as the sun slowly fell.

“We can get married,” he grinned picturing their lives and nudging her, “and have children.” “Just you and me,” he whispered, squeezing her hand. She nodded her head slowly, “just you and me.” Peter smiled wide, “when do you want to set sail, darling?” He leaned in kissing all over her face. “As soon as possible. I want to get as far away from this place.” “Let’s do it then,” he mumbled, holding her in his arms yet again. (oMg ImAgInE PeTeR PaRkEr WiTh A BrItIsH aCcEnT) 1789 France “Y/N,” Peter shouted, running through the house with a huge smile on his face. “Today was a success! I was able to get enough money for food to give to the whole block. Our little ones don’t have to go to bed hungry tonight.” He held a hand on her waist, pulling her into a kiss.

“All I could muster is bread and apples,” he leaned back, taking the sack the he had on his back. “It’s all right love. You’re the city’s Robin Hood.” She smiled, rubbing a comforting hand on his forearm.

“Kids, your father’s home,” Y/N shouted through the small home. Before she knew it, the little children ran into the room, giggling the entire way there.

“How are my lovely little ducklings doing today?” He smiled brightly, bending down to meet their height. They wrapped their arms around Peter as he pressed them into his chest. Y/N exhaled, holding her dress as she crouched down. “They’ve been a handful today. Well, not really, but they kept asking me to tell them stories about you and your heroics,” Y/N swooned, enjoying the imagine of her little family.

“Well, you do what you can to help those in need, right kiddos?” The little boy and girl nodded their heads, still squished into their father’s chest. Peter smiled down at his children, kissing the tops of their heads. “You hungry?” He asked the pair as they cheered. Laughing he grabbed a couple of apples from his bag, handing them to his bundles of joy.

“Would you like an apple my love?” Peter stood as he watched his kids bite into the fruit. “Yes, I’d love one.” He tossed her the red fruit and watched her take a bite out of it. “Best apples in all of Paris,” she smiled, enjoying the sweetness. Peter chuckled, “probably some of the only apples in the city.” Y/N rolled her eyes, kissing her husband on the cheek before taking another bite.

This was their life. Trying to survive in a time of scarcity and tyranny caused by the King. It was hard since Peter was stealing from the richest men and women in all of France. He knew other people, much like his own family, needed food so he took it from the rich. At first, he felt bad for doing this, as it was a crime, but the more he kept doing it and seeing the smiles on his neighbors faces, he couldn’t let them down. It’s what he had to do to help his family and other survive in the troubled times.

But things quickly turned from bad to worse for Peter. He ran through the streets as he was being chased by the police. Running was the only thing on his mind, he couldn’t get caught, he shouldn’t have been so careless, but it was only a matter of time before this had happened.

“Y/N!” Peter shouted, bolting through the place he called home. She quickly walked towards the sound of her worried husband, concern lacing her features.

“What’s wrong? What happened?” She cupped his face with both of her hands as he dropped his bag. “I-I messed up. I got cocky and- and I got caught.” Tears fell down his face at the realization of what was to happen. Y/N’s eyes widened, pulling him into a tight hug, never wanting to let him go.

She shook her head, “Peter it’ll be alright.” It sounded more like she was trying to convince herself than him. “No, it won’t be!” He shouted his features suddenly harsh. He saw the look in Y/N’s eyes; fear, as she backed away.

“I don’t want to leave you Y/N,” he whispered, leaning his head on hers, “but I think we both know what’s going to happen,” he spoke solemnly. “Where are the children?” She bit her lip, tears escaping her eyes, “in their room upstairs.”

Before he left, he pressed a quick yet passionate kiss onto her lips as their tears fell on each other’s delicate skin. Peter ran up those stairs, wanting to embrace his children for the last time.

“Hi lovies,” he greeted, obviously distressed as his children were oblivious to the situation. They sat there, playing with their dolls, smiling brightly up at their father. Peter walked towards them, crouching down to their level. “Listen, daddy’s going to be away for a while. I don’t know when you’ll see me next,” his eyes filling up with more tears at the thought of them growing up without him, ”but I love you both, so so much.”

The tears continued to fall as he pulled his children towards him. “What’s happening?” The little boy questioned into his father’s chest. Y/N stood in the doorway, watching the solemn interaction that her family was forced to go through. A loud banging interrupting their goodbye.

Peter turned to look at Y/N, tears welling up in his eyes. He sighed, standing up and walking towards the room’s exit, “it’s them.” He looked down at his shoes, biting his lip.

“I love you both, so much,” he spoke as the banging and shouting continued. The kids knew that something bad was happening, chorusing ‘I love you’s’ and immediate questioning him. But he didn’t have time to answer.

Peter walked downstairs with Y/N quickly following his footsteps. Peter pressed his head against the door, letting in a slow deep breath. Opening the door, he was bombarded with shouting as men grabbed him from his home. Y/N stood in shock, hands covering her mouth as if to hold her sobs in.

All she heard was white noise as she watched their mouths move with no words escaping them. “Y/N,” Peter spoke loudly, getting her out of whatever trance she was in. “I love you, so much. I’m so sorry,” he cried, his hands being held together with tight rope.

“W-Where are you taking him? Where is he going?” Y/N pressed the policemen, getting closer to them but only being held back. “The Bastille with all of the other criminals,” one of them responded. It felt like she had lost her breath. The rumors of that place made it sound so horrible; it isn’t the lace for Peter Parker.

“No,” she whispered as she watched them drag her husband away from the house. “I love you,” she shouted as they moved onto the street and away from her sight.

1941 New York

Peter sat on the hood of his car in front of the school, grabbing Y/N by her hips to sit her on top of his lap. She laughed, wrapping her arms around his neck and leaning in to kiss his lips. “Don’t flip your wig, Parker,” MJ spoke as she approached the two teenagers. The bell rang, indicating that class was about to start. “Come on, I gotta run by my locker,” she stood up, taking his hand and dragging him away. He chuckled, “alright, alright. I’ll catch up with you. My bag is still in the car.” Y/N nodded her head, kissing his cheek and quickly walking inside. MJ sighed, walking next to the boy who had just opened his car door. “Have you told her?” She interrogated. Peter slammed the door shut, looking at her puzzled. “Told her what?” He questioned innocently, genuinely confused. MJ looked down at her shoes uncomfortably as she fiddled with the edge of her school dress, “about the war.” His eyes went wide, looking around him to make sure no one he knew heard. He shook his head, getting close to her to express his thoughts, “keep your voice down.” They stood quietly, awkwardness filling the air around them. “You have to tell her,” MJ looked into his eyes, stance not wavering with the statement. He nodded, looking everywhere but at her. “Let’s just go to class,” he mumbled, his mood dramatically shifted.

Being around Y/N automatically made him feel better. They’d share looks during class, her smile widening whenever he caught her staring. He’d smirk and tap his pencil on the wooden desk, shaking his head and diverting his attention back to the teacher, but the thoughts of the war were looming over his head.

He didn’t know what to do. His whole life practically flashed before his eyes as he shut the passenger side door of the car that his girlfriend was now in. He tortuously walked to the driver’s side of the vehicle, opening the door to get inside. He sighed as he slammed the door shut watching Y/N fiddle with the ends of her dress.

“Peter, are you alright? You’ve been acting odd since this morning. I-I’m kind of worried,” Y/N wasn’t great at expressing her feelings as she looked at her lap fiddling with her thumbs.

Peter didn’t want to look at her. He wanted to pretend like none of this was going to happen. He just wanted to be a normal teenager for crying out loud.

But he knew this conversation was inevitable as there was nothing he could do to prevent any of this.

“There’s something I gotta to tell you doll,” Peter spoke nervously with his hands still, planted on the steering wheel. “They’re sending me away,” he closed his eyes at the sudden confession, wanting to open them and find out that this was all a dream. She scrunched her brows, examining his features to try and figure out what he meant, “w-what are you on about?” He let out a breath, lowering his hands from the wheel and slowly opening his eyes to look at her, “I got drafted.” Tears filled his eyes as he watched her face fill with understanding. “I’m going across the fucking world,” he chuckled dryly feeling the water cascade down his face, “to fight in the stupid fucking war!” He shouted this now hitting the wheel in pure frustration, mad at the world and his terrible luck.

Y/N’s eyes widened at his outburst, still in disbelief. “W-What? What about school? What about college? W-We were supposed to graduate together, go to the same college, have these perfect lives together.” Her own eyes began to water, feeling bad for him and the things they’d both miss out on together. “I’m so sorry,” he sobbed, leaning into her shoulder. She grabbed his hand with her own. The other hand brushed the tears off his face with her featherlike touch as similar droplets left her own eyes.

“Mark my words doll,” he sniffled leaning back and admiring her now red eyes, “when I get back, you’ll be walking down the aisle.” He sat up, rubbing his thumb on the back of her hand.

“And you’ll wear a big poofy dress,” he smiled, images of better days displayed in his mind. “And you’ll have a big diamond ring. You’ll be able to see your reflection in it.” Y/N beamed, her tears quickly drying up.

“And we’ll be okay.”

2016 New York (alright guys, let’s do this one last time)

“Yeah, ma I know,” Y/N spoke into the phone that was pressed between her ear and shoulder with both of her hands pilled with groceries. “I picked up some stuff from the store after school so you don’t gotta worry about that after work.”

“Love you too, see ya when you get home,” Y/N bid her farewells, hearing the sound in her ear that her mother hung up. “Shit,” she whispered as she realized she couldn’t get her keys or her phone from their respected spots.

She stopped in front of her apartment door, pausing to mull over her options. She sighed, stepping back while she simultaneously bumped into someone. “Oh god,” Y/N exclaimed as the bags in her hands fell to the ground. She heard something bang on the floor, noticing that it was too heavy for it to be hers.

The person behind her steadied her by holding her waist to make sure she wouldn’t fall, “woah.”

“I’m so sorry” Y/N profoundly apologized with wide eyes as she turned around to face a very, very attractive boy her age.

“Don’t worry about it, happens to the best of us” he smiled, bending down to pick up the objects. Y/N did the same, picking up a few textbooks. He looked at the food on the ground, picking up what he could as the brown bag holding the goods was now ripped.

“Thank you,” they both said in unison, blushes appearing on both of their faces.

She looked up at him as the both of them stood up, “H-have we met before?” Peter shook his head, “I don’t think so.” Y/N smiled at his nervousness, finding it quite adorable but also relieved as she felt the same way.

“I’m Peter by the way. I live right down the hall.” He pointed down the corridor, at no door in particular.

“Y/N,“ she smiled, thinking that she might actually have a chance with this guy.

kazumi mishima!

this section contains spoilers for your turn to die, as well as the island mode spin-off, your time to shine! okay, PLEASE hear me out on this one. i was originally going to put mai here- so this is definitely a jump. however, specifically based on your mbti type, i think mishima is a better fit. let me explain. despite being a little strange, i think that people can find it easy to get along with mishima. he’s very close with nao, of course, and even before the second trial he manages to develop a friendship with gin, and become on good terms with sara, kanna, joe, and somewhat reko. in the island mode, while it may be customary since he’s the protagonist, mishima does also get along rather well with the rest of the cast. plus, he’s typically the one that’s more willing to ask questions about the others in a friendly way, or more willing to be personal with the rest of the cast. it’s clear that he cares very much about other people, and i think that corresponds with your MBTI type. to quote the website’s specific description, INFJ types, “take the actions that they do because they are trying to advance an idea that they truly believe will make the world a better place.” while escaping from an island is a somewhat extreme example, it still applies. i wouldn’t say he’s exactly pda heavy- but kazumi is very actively affectionate for other people. he drinks with keiji, um... and works out with shin? however, it’s clear that in all circumstances, he wants to help and has the best intentions in mind. in terms of you, i’d say he definitely shows affection whenever possible, though maybe not in physical form. in terms of getting his way... i would actually say that he does, too. first off, going back to that charisma you both have, it makes the two of you seem rather reliable. plus, i think both of you know when what you’re asking for is too much, and in general those good intentions seep into what you ask other people for. haha... i could definitely learn something from you guys. he is rather truthful i’d say, especially in how much he cares for others. i think that the two of you would also be rather trusting, not being paranoid or wary unless there’s a good reason to. however, he can lie when it matters. in the beginning, kanna is much more stressed about her sister’s fate than she is later on in the game. kazumi lies for her sake, and tries to help her resolve and morale, by saying that there’s nothing she could have done to save her sister. obviously, kugie passing wasn’t kanna’s fault, but that was one of the only arguments kazumi could have given to her at the time that it wasn’t. that’s definitely a time when i’d say lying matters. maybe you’ve lied to spare someone’s feelings before, too ,,

well... the bad thing about hiding your feelings is that it’s hard to conclude whether mishima is hiding his own. after all... if they’re hidden, we wouldn’t see them so often. however, it’s clear that he thinks more than one might imagine at a glance. he cares deeply for his students beyond a surface level, and it’s clear that he’s attached to other people. he indirectly gives up his life for the sake of nao’s safety, and in the second chapter, his AI only blames himself for the grief his death caused nao. pluss... unless it’s with one of the kiddos(gin, kanna, etc), mishima is more the type to suggest ways to improve yourself, rather than just emotional support n beefing you uup. liiiiike, bring up your time to shine again, mishima’s obviously the one leading everyone to their epic island survival. right. BUT, in his affection events w/ shin specifically, the two of them work out together since shin mentions being really weak. whenever he facez a problem, his first thought is how to beat it into the ground. and maybe you feel similarly!!! with that productive mindset!! if you do... i promise that it’s super duper clear to everyone that you care so much, and they love-love how much you’re able to look out for their well being!!!!!! both of you do that!!! i’m going to explore your MBTI a little more real quick!!! buckle up, readers !!! buuuut before we do, mishima’s totally got a lot of friends. like, full stop, he finds it easy to get close with people on both the island and in the death game. however i think that mishima’s definitely more of an introvert than an extrovert. fiirst off, other than the whole art is the introvert’s ideal activity thing(plus, infj’s are said to be creative + artistic!! double kill!!), he also... gosh. how do i explain it. he more seems to like people than actively seek energy from them the way extroverts do, yaaa know? plus, wiith that advice thing you mentioned, INFJ’s tend to be future-focused people. i think that mishima’s a really goal-focused kind of guy. pluus, the both of you are bit reserved in yourselves(liike what you said about doubting your authenticity), and it totally seems like you value closer and deeper relationshipsz. aalso, the two of you may be a little hard to get to know, and can maybe be too sensitive to things(you mentioned being emotional). lastly, i think the both of you can totally be idealists- and as the 16personalities website says, you’re not “idle dreamers”. i wouldn’t be surprised if the both of you care for other people a whole lot, and try your best to help them and in general make the world better through other people. if that makes sense!

second off, from danganronpa, i match you with...

chisa yukizome!

like before, this part contains spoilers for danganronpa 3, the end of hope’s peak academy! it will have spoilers for future and despair arc, as i haven’t watched hope arc. ...though kaede akamatsu is a close second! honestly, while i did settle on chisa, i think you’re like if kaede and chisa did a funky dance and fused together. you’re still really like chisa though!!! the two of you both seem pretty easy to get along with, and definitely outgoing. however, i think that even with your eccentricities, you don’t really overwhelm people! you may a little here or there by mistake, but you’re sure to reel it in if they tell you about it- at least, that’s my guess. plus, i’d also guess that the two of you have good communication skills. as someone who seems to care deeply about people, both of you would probably make an effort to make sure you’re understood by the other person, and that the other person is understood in return. this also goes along with you seeming good at telling how others are feeling. plus, chisa isn’t someone who’s afraid to get physical with other people. this is shown when she physically picks up nanami in the first episode, and her pulling kyosuke and sakakura to her in an old photograph of the three. plus, while it’s not exactly affectionate... teruteru was on the receiving end of some ropes. she does seem to show this very often, as even when she’s not physically affecting people, chisa is still perfectly willing to get in others’ faces. i’d imagine that when she was younger, she might have been more like ibuki in that she just couldn’t restrain herself from expressing the affection in her body. i’d also agree that chisa’s rather charismatic. she’s able to get all of class 77-B on her side in the span of one day, and gets very close with even fuyuhiko after a few months. all of them miss her dearly when she’s sent off to the reverse course. jumping topics a little, i think that she also finds it easy to get what she wants. starting off with class 77-B, of course her charm let her get close to all of them- but her general determination makes it easy for her to know how she wants to face something. maybe you’re also the type to have ideas and a plan, and then roll with it if something goes wrong! neither of you seem like the type to go off of pure impulse, though- maybe educated intuition, but to make a funny joke, neither of you seem particularly trigger happy. you’re both the type to take a second and think before you make a decision, but you’re not the type to think too hard about most things. at least, that’s what i’m getting.

next up, we come to the reason that i went with chisa instead of kaede. i think that with your more goal-setting and process-based mind, you wouldn’t overthink a lie you’re telling and realise that it has to get done. i could be totally wrong, but if chisa sees it as necessary, she can create various well-meaning schemes. for example, while it’s not really a great one, whenever she’s brainwashed by junko she basically gets the future foundation taken down due to her acting skills. while i think she has a strong sense of right and wrong, i think that if she needed to lie she’d know it’s for the greater good. like mishima, maybe you’ve had to do something like that before- sparing someone else’s feelings, keeping someone away from trouble. so on. chisa is definitely someone i’d call emotional! her students can make her jump from protective, to frustrated, to overjoyed all in the span of a few minutes. these are all things she uses to her advantage, though i think that if she didn’t believe these emotions would be beneficial to communicating, she wouldn’t express them. you might feel the same way. for example, if you were in a situation where someone was acting unjustly, it would be more obvious than a situation where... say, you’re having personal issues that you can’t fix. i think you’d try to keep it to yourself if you didn’t think it would be beneficial. you deserve to vent !! it’s okay anooon ! lastly, i think chisa cares very deeply about those close to her. she gives a lot of advice to people like hajime and chiaki, who have their own struggles. plus, she’s not afraid to give sakakura a piece of her mind when he flies off the handle a little bit. in general, she’s also rather consoling of and friendly with munakata. even koichi, a big part of their relationship is how they encourage each other to do their best. chisa also tried to dispel nagito’s self-demeaning comments, which is... definitely a feat. even if chisa does have a lot of close friends and students who she’s on good terms with, a lot of her deeper thinking and planning happens when she’s alone. plus, even she could get overloaded by trying to overcome too many people. and just for a bit of spice, INTJ’s and chisa both are very idealistic and active about this idealism. plus, they also have strong beliefs and are unwavering on them, enjoy helping others(but need space to recharge), understand the good and bad in the world and want to make it better. i’m keeping them coming, chisa also has the traits of being very sensitive to the needs of others, being very creative, and being focused on the future.

and lastly, from danganronpa another, i match you with...

setsuka chiebukuro!

like the other two, this part contains spoilers of danganronpa another 2. though yoruko kabuya is a close second! to start off, i think setsuka is definitely easy to get along with. she’s very good at holding up a conversation and making other feel welcome, and maybe your presence is similarly welcoming or warm! she’s rather laid back, even in the killing game, so i think that you would definitely be similar to her outside of that dangerous situation. plus, i’d absolutely call her outgoing too! she doesn’t hesitate to talk to other people, and is the main moodmaker of the group. that’s her biggest concern in the killing game, honestly! maybe you’d also be more focused on calming everyone down and uniting other people, in a situation like that. plus, i think she is also pretty pda heavy! she tends to refer to the rest of the cast as kids, taking on a more mature demeanor. she also does a lot of hugging and head pats, and isn’t afraid to get in the water to swim with other people. if i’m right, she physically pulls sora, yoruko, and the others into having a pool and costume party with her. if she doesn’t she’s at least pushy- she knows how to get other people in a good mood and doesn’t hesitate to do so. this is shown with the parties she throws, how she organises everyone to meet at the satsuki land parade, just in general. she tries really hard, and i think you can also have a very active kind of moodmaking ability! she’s very charismatic, and maybe you relate to her more joking and easygoing attitude! from how you talk, it seems like you can make people feel relaxed just by being around you. and honestly i kinda love that? like, toss me some chillness pleeeez i think that she can find it easy to get her way, too. while more stubborn characters like hibiki and nikei she can’t get through to, that’s typically because they refuse to let her. even so, when she directly confronts hibiki’s closed off attitude in chapter 2, she manages to break through her cold facade. even if that’s just a little, she is ultimately the biggest factor in getting hibiki to warm back up to the rest of the group. she is rather truthful, though i think she can doubt herself at times too- i’ll get into that later. she can lie at times, like keeping nikei’s secret of his voice status, though this is like the others where she only lies and hides things when necessary.

next up, setsuka is also rather emotional. she clearly shows concern for all of the group members, and is willing to take on the role of everyone’s big sister for their sake. like, her entire role in the game is making other people happier and more at ease in the killing game. i just... that’s it. she also hides her distress and discomfort, however. whenever everyone’s showed their motive video in chapter 3, setsuka is obviously very upset by it, but she regathers her resolve and encourages everyone to keep going in spite of this. the only person who has the same amount of composure as setsuka puts on is sora, and sora’s motive video did essentially nothing except confuse her. it’s clear that she doesn’t want to stress anyone out, and puts a strong emphasis on the needs of other people. it’s obvious that the two of you care very deeply for your friends, and want to keep them safe. she also tries to help everyone whenever she can, as she tries her best to be helpful during trials, and as we just went over she’s very devoted to being a moodmaker. a lot of the rousing, invigorating speeches and words in the game are given by her, and through her actions she also does well to keep everyone’s morale high. setsuka also has more private conversations with people one-on-one about how they can handle their own worries, hibiki being the prime example. however, like with the other characters, i also wouldn’t call her extrovert. she seems to love people yes, but a lot of her conversations are more meaningful. it doesn’t seem like she talks to others just to talk, but she has clear intent whenever she does so. i think this makes her lean more to the introvert side. and finally, it’s MBTI trait lightning round time! INFJ’s and setsuka are both actively idealistic, want to make the world a better place, very happy to help others, need space to recharge, are sensitive to others’ feelings, focused on goals and the future, holders of strong beliefs, have strong imaginations, and want to get to the heart of issues so that people don’t have problems to fix. also, INFJ’s and setsuka both want to rule the world with kindness and love.

"You're Her Type": Anna and Eve and the Garden of Evil (+ how Eve and Villanelle learn and love)

hello everybody i have had more wine so now you're going to be subjected to my Opinions. today, we are going to be talking about eve and anna, specifically in the context of their respective relationships with villanelle. i believe that, as we wind up to another season finale, and our characters make some pretty defining choices about one another, this is a comparison that killing eve invites -- it's no coincidence that after six episodes of relative radio silence on the matter, konstantin returned anna to the show's discourse in 2x07. so buckle up. a little signposting: first we're going to break down how eve and villanelle engage with the idea of love, then contrast anna and eve's moral frameworks, and then finally explore how anna and eve have gone from almost mirror images of one another to completely divorced in villanelle's mind, and why that's a good thing. i will try and keep this shit concise, but y'all know how these turn out.

now as i've mentioned before, killing eve is a precarious cantilever of parallels. eve/villanelle are obviously our most important and riveting example of this -- initially, they have their resemblance, but we watch as they slowly and softly kill their old selves until they complement each other seamlessly. but eve/anna is a crucial secondary parallel because it contextualises the primary; it situates villanelle and eve's mutual obsession.

i believe that as we progress through our formative years, the people around us provide us with experiences and patterns that teach us how to love, and what to expect from love. this can sometimes set us up for life (leaving us with a model that drives us to seek out healthy and productive dynamics), but sometimes, it means we don't know how to recognise or cultivate genuine affection, and we get trapped in damaging cycles. i've said before that i think eve sits on the psychopathy spectrum, but i also think that growing up, she had strong examples of relationships, which is why she is such an accomplished long-term chameleon -- she was able to maintain a marriage and friendships. yes, this was partially through self-repression, but at a base level, eve has the formulae to pass in these typical emotional environments.

villanelle, on the other hand? anna tells eve that villanelle's father was a drunk, and her mother passed away. i doubt that villanelle had ANY actual relationships, let alone good ones, with family. she's exceptionally intelligent and a very fast learner (which anna asserts and we have confirmed on-screen almost every episode), and she's versatile. this is why she's able to craft and adopt the perfect character/personality for a particular situation -- she's built up a repertoire of dialects, micro-expressions, cue responses, etc. that allow her to smoothly navigate short-term interactions (e.g. with Sebastian, with Gemma). but prior to anna, villanelle has no people she can invest in and expect a returned investment, so she's never had the opportunity to develop skills beyond the superficial. she gets what she wants through charisma, a calculated blend of innocence and sex appeal, and transactions (i do this, you do that).

but then villanelle meets anna, and undoubtedly forms an imprint on her of some kind, as her first "reciprocal" relationship -- the first adult to treat villanelle like she has value. obviously, the ethics of student/teacher affair are EXTREMELY dicey, but getting into that discourse will take us outside my intended scope. so here's how eve and anna differ. 1) proximity. villanelle and anna are together all the time, and this gives rise to their relationship. villanelle and eve, in the first season, are almost always apart. initially, their fascination is at least partly driven by mystery. it's not a "crime of opportunity". this is pretty much the most difficult long-distance mess imaginable. essentially, villanelle and eve both take an active role -- they pursue each other deliberately -- rather than a passive one. it's not a matter of convenience. 2) commitment. for anna, villanelle was an avenue of tourism, a compartment kept self-contained which anna could visit to re-explore youth and sexuality. but villanelle was not allowed to bleed into the rest of her life; anna wanted to keep job-husband-image just-so while also having villanelle when desired (cake had and eaten too). eve's whole life, however, orbits villanelle. her husband, her friends, her job -- these are discarded as acceptable sacrifices on the path to villanelle, rather than prioritised. while anna (potentially due to guilt) idealises the memory of her husband, eve considers niko disposable, and is a clearer iteration of herself without him.

3) psychology. anna is inarguably fucked up (she had an affair with her STUDENT), but i don't think she registers as a psychopath. she displays empathy, remorse, reticence to cause harm. eve? villanelle kind of nailed it with the "like us" thing. and this brings us to how anna and eve each fit into villanelle's life, and way of life. im making an absolute reach of a biblical reference with my title, but if for a minute we did position anna/eve as adam/eve, we end up with two items of real relevance. firstly, that eve is the one who takes the bite of the apple, and secondly, that eve is created from anna/adam. the apple as we know is symbolic of the temptation of sin. eve eats, and is cast from paradise forever. what i love about this, though, is that our eve isn't cast from paradise, she's cast from prison. eve's boring office job in witness coordination, her stale marriage, her enactment of normality day in, day out -- it isn't a utopia, not by any stretch. and i think that's only really starkly apparent to eve after all those trappings are gone; once she feels "wide awake", she realises exactly how long and how deeply she's been asleep. but anna? anna doesn't give in, or rather, she doesn't give in enough. she sleeps with villanelle, and spends time with villanelle, but when she's confronted with villanelle's capacity for violence, she retreats. she calls the police and cuts villanelle out of her life (which im obviously not going to criticise her for; it's a justifiable response), although it's too late by then. she's stranded in this halfway purgatory -- a woman whose adolescent lover murdered her husband; a woman who isn't good but won't commit to being bad, CAN'T commit. anna is undoubtedly morally grey, but (and bear with me here, because i can't think of a better way to articulate this) anna is kind of weak. she never had the guts to look at her situation for what it was, to bother to try and see villanelle beyond what she wanted her to be. she was using villanelle -- someone she could feel good about helping while simultaneously bringing excitement to her mundane life -- and set her back down when villanelle became too much trouble. what we and Villanelle learn from this is that certain parts of who she is are attractive (irresistibly so) to other people, and others are repellent.

which obliquely brings me to the second point, that eve is created from anna. as early as 1x02, we have our attention directed to the physical similarities between anna and eve, which is perhaps part of the initial draw to eve for villanelle, but we also have their differences immediately emphasised. eve is unique from the outset, because these repellent qualities -- the enjoyment of destruction, the dramatic flair, the violence, the efficiency -- are what excite her about villanelle in the first place. villanelle's beauty/charm/off-beat humour/loyalty all come into the picture later. at the beginning, there's just a string of bodies, and that's what sucks eve in. don't get me wrong, i think it's very much villanelle's personality that eve is obsessed with -- we could see her professional but lack of personal interest in the Ghost -- but she has always understood villanelle in the context of her darkness. it never surprises her, only intrigues her. in 1x08, we have a number of direct comparisons between anna and eve, or at least, the show recreates the same situations with each of them and watches them respond entirely differently.

we have anna pulling the gun on villanelle. the entire time, villanelle is relaxed, stating outright that anna doesn't have what it takes to shoot. she waits her out. she has no intentions of killing anna, even though she tells irina, "i don't love her anymore." we'll come back to the significance of that statement.

later, in the tea room, eve has a gun levelled at villanelle, but again, villanelle is certain she won't fire. eve admits that no, she can't use the gun, but rather than turn it on herself as anna did, she makes villanelle an offer: come with me; it can be just the two of us, and we can talk. in a high stress environment, eve's response is to treat villanelle like a person, not a weapon or a thing.

so villanelle runs. and that brings us to their final interaction of the season, when they meet in villanelle's paris apartment. as they lie together on the bed, eve pulls the knife, and villanelle tells her, "you can't."

this is where eve cleaves distinctly and irreversibly from anna in villanelle's mind. like i said, a fraction of eve's initial appeal is her similarity to anna, although it's also obvious that villanelle is very much attracted to eve in her own right (in 2x03, she calls the woman she sleeps with "eve" and not "anna"). but then in 1x04, eve gets out of the car to face villanelle, and villanelle has dinner with her in 1x05, and eve begins to overwrite anna in villanelle's mind. how can we be sure of this? because in 1x08, when villanelle is sneaking past anna and irina in the apartment, she pauses and stares, even though it's vital that she get to her passport quickly. what's notable about this particular moment is that this is the only shot where anna could easily be mistaken for eve. this is what prompts villanelle to linger for that extra beat.

so we have that initial similarity, then a merging, then an overtaking. but when eve stabs villanelle, she becomes removed entirely from anna in villanelle's mind. she goes from "you're like anna" to "you're more interesting than anna" to just "eve". because along many other things, eve has the capacity to surprise villanelle. she doesn't take the easy or the expected choice. not only does she understand villanelle's language of extremities and violence, she speaks it. this is what villanelle means by "like us" in 2x07; she and eve are more similar than they are different.

and now we're circling back to villanelle's defence to irina -- "i don't love her anymore!" obviously, this line carries all kinds of implications, but the most critical is that villanelle conceptualises herself as someone capable of love. she doesn't say "i don't like her anymore" or "i don't want her anymore" or "i'm not obsessed with her anymore". she chooses and uses "love".

with anna, though, it never could be a mutual, reciprocal love, because she and villanelle don't mean the same thing when they use that word. they have fundamentally different understandings of what love means. so even though, ostensibly, it seems like villanelle broke her learned pattern by seeking anna out, she actually perpetuated it -- anna is another authority-position adult who discards villanelle, who misunderstands her and pushes her away (again, fair enough; villanelle is very complicated and dangerous). but eve? look at eve's initial constructions of love. she loved bill, but remains infatuated with his murderer. she loved niko, but when he questioned her rather than supported her, she discarded him too, and went from upset to acceptance in a matter of DAYS after what was presumably a 15yrs+ partnership.

and then look at her with villanelle. it's not conventional or healthy, but they have a much more compatible interpretation of interpersonal relationships. they're both quite manipulative, but they don't see this as an issue -- the manipulations are a means to the end of helping the other. villanelle is very transactional (she sends eve clothes and perfume, wants to make her favourite recipes), but eve responds very well to the expressing affection through gifts and gestures; far less well when niko and kenny try to show care by giving eve instructions or suggestions. they each romanticise eve stabbing villanelle ("i think about it all the time"), yet neither of them believed villanelle would go through with the hit on eve, because violence plays a deliberate, rather than random, role in their dynamic, which they both comprehend innately. eve stabbed villanelle to assert their equality; she probably did it because villanelle's first response was to say, "you can't", and eve needed to prove she could. but they're on different terms by the time they meet again, and harming each other is no longer a productive currency, no longer has purpose; instead, they hurt others, and help each other, as a way of affirming the growth of their connection.

for eve and villanelle alike, the other represents a deviation from their established learned patterns, but an important choice for them personally. eve isn't going for the stable, normal relationship that she's been brought up to seek out; instead, she's gravitating towards the possibility of someone who embraces her complexity and darkness, and will give her space and means to explore and express herself. and villanelle isn't recreating a nonreciprocal relationship where she is used/enjoyed and then discarded; she's chosen someone who has the potential to be longer-term, who genuinely cares about her holistically.

from where we're standing before the finale, it looks like they may learn to "love" each other, in the way they are each capable of. villanelle and eve aren’t a relationship that can exist in heaven, because they’re not people of paradise; whether they’re the apples or the snakes or the gods in this equation, the pertinent fact is that are each other’s gateways into a world that fits them, and gives them what they need. is that fucked up? absolutely. is it kind of nice? I think so. it’s certainly gripping as all hell to watch.

My father was also a respectable man. A archeologist. And I, a archeologists' eldest daughter and heir. He not only owned a shipping company, he was a close relative of a government official, who was called upon when aid was needed, and also cared for the museum in Osaka-- where we were often stayed at in the summer. As his heir, I was expected to learn much and so, I had my own private tutor that lived with us.

When summer came to pass, we went back Tokyo. In Tokyo, I saw these lovely things... these paintings. I fell in love with their design, and took up the hobby of Ukiyo-e painting. I practiced and practiced, giving father small gifts every once in awhile. He made it even more clear that I should not interact with the outside world all too often, as he did not know I was honing this new-found skill for the purpose I had intended to use it for.

He did however, notice I had begun training my eye for the paint right after passing through the marketplace on multiple occasions, wondering and dreading with his beloved daughter would whip up next. I could see things you wouldn't believe; Red strings connected to every little thing with little dates etched into them... For as long as I could remember, I could see everything of this nature just dangling freely for me and only me to take. I treasured these moments the most, this innocence in my abilities.

I can remember everything so vividly down to an exact date and exact time in which my marriage that lasted a month or so, was quick to fall apart. I had just gotten into the gambling scene heavily at 25 years old and, undoubtedly so, I had made friends as well as enemies; It was no secret I was a rich mans daughter and heir that simply had too much time and cash on their hands to blow it all so I became a center of attention. What few had tried approaching me in Hope's of romantic interest, did so in groups, only interested in my cash or my body; Everyone except for him, or so I thought.

He was charming, handsome even, and he was like a god in my eyes for he made me feel special and loved... So when he proposed, I thought nothing of it and accepted him into my heart immediately. He was eager and I was nervous. The time spent before our marriage was a month long and I had-- at the time-- no idea why. I loved him and he loved me, so why wait? By the end of that month we had waited... we married in Denmark.

The chapel was empty on my side, so his friends (and only ‘friends’ showed up) had spread out evenly. I was not accustomed to this practice, and so we had to go over it a few times... I probably frustrated them. I would find out, much later than I would have liked, exactly why he wanted to wait sooo badly~.

My body, it was on the floor and it was oh so limp. I could feel it, suffocation as blood clogged every airway possible. So limp, yet I mustered the strength to write one thing in hoping--praying!-- that I wasn’t alone. That he would be discovered. That I could be saved.

‘Him’

“Oh trust me... no one is going to find you.”

With that, that dutch bastard left me to die alone, gagging on my blood. And the fool had the audacity to step over me as I was in the process of drowning in my own pool of blood and puke on the floor in the bedroom, blood slipping between my fingers from the wounds peppering my stomach and face. Before leaving through the door, he stoked a flame to his pipe... and smiled down at me “Thanks for the inhe.....”

I can remember blacking out and, somehow, by some miracle, I was alive; My ribs were cracked, left hand fractured and I had various damage to my face from the blunt object which he had chosen to bludgeon me with but... I was alive. It stirred something in me, like I had cheated the inevitable when in actuality a friend of his hand stopped by to drop off a box of camping supplies...

He planned to break my bones and stuff me in a trunk to better hide me in the nearby woods easier.

“ coricopat, hm? ” tugger thought briefly of one half of the mystic twins. he knew his sister, tantomille, much better - but of course he did. she, like the majority of all queens, fell weak to the power of his charm, charisma and hypnotic hip movements. but her brother? ah, now he was an interesting one!

“ you might not expect it of him, but he’s got a pretty solid sense of humour. ” like his brother, coricopat’s expression usually remained stoic, or at least held the look of one who simply knew MORE than most average cats. – and yet, tugger had seen for himself around other cats, when he lowered his guard, he knew how to have FUN. from what he could recall from munkustrap’s rendition of the pekes and the pollicles from the last ball (really, his bagpipes had been a HUGE improvement to the soundtrack!), coricopat had been very INTO the whole show. “ we’re not incredibly close, he’s probably closer to munku, really, but.. i’ve got nothing against him. ”

he was sure that he could recall some occasions of disdain from the mystical cat - mostly at the sight of his relentless flirtation, but tugger was hardly offended. many of the toms held the exact same expressions. it was something the maine coon had come to expect. regardless… “ he and his twin do seem to have some special ability.. some sort of magic. i know my brother trusts their intuition more than most cats. ” and magical ability, regardless of how showy or muted it appeared to be, was something that even the rum tum tugger could respect.

GOT7: Im Jaebum - Inner Planet Natal Chart Reading

💕Hello! It’s my obligated duty as a Capricorn to talk about other Capricorns! So today, we’ll be looking at another Capricorn-- Im Jaebum from GOT7! I was contemplating whether or not I’ll do an overview or a inner planet natal reading, but I figured-- eh, I might as well go full out!

This will tie in somewhat to my earlier SVT series since I touched on Joshua’s Capricorn-Capricorn, Seungkwan Capricorn-Virgo and now Jaebum’s Capricorn-Taurus (see: link in note at the end on how to find your own decans).

I’ve been talking about quite a few Capricorns these past few days, it’s only right that I finally get to talk about the last of the Capricorn decan -- Capricorn influenced by Taurus/Venus !

People say Capricorns are bland and boring but honestly there’s so many different types and tonality to a Capricorn they can’t just be grouped into those adjectives.

Capricorns influenced by Venus are one of the most alluring decans Capricorns can be in. Those blessed by the planet of social relations are full of charm, and even in their native form they exude the type of charisma and comforting serenity to them that it’s hard for others not to like them.

In fact, Capricorns in the Taurus decans are usually very magnetic people. They don’t tend to be overtly aware of the effect they have on those around them, but they can often find themselves drawing eyes where-ever they go.

Their quiet nature are often seen in one of the most favorable light, honest and naturally charming they usually have a youthful look to them. A childish, innocent aura no matter how old they get.

They’re dependable, sure. And are often reliable people, but they’re not afraid to show that they have some vulnerabilities to them. (often unexpectedly, as in when they let their guards down)

In fact they often take advantage of it, instead of seeing their softer sensitive side as something they have to guard/hide, they’re much more laid back in terms of allowing people to help them than other Capricorn decans. (There’s complications to this, see later)

These people often feels like a kid at heart. At their core, they cry easily when they feel like they’re not being supported.

Despite trying to carry the load by themselves, and the usual Capricorn ‘facade’ -- they are the types who are much more willing to open up genuinely to other people than their other Decan counterparts once they get past the initial struggle of figuring themselves out, whether or not they want anyone to help them or not (This is just something all Capricorns have to go through).

There’s still a sense of mystery to the Capricorn natives, but Capricorn Taurus trusts are much more welcoming and accepting of others. There’s a warmth to them that Taurus brings, different from a Capricorn-Virgo decan that relies on Mercury to facilitate intimacy through forms of intellectual balance. Capricorn Taurus trust for the sake of intimacy, and they’re often very caring and comforting people to be around.

You can’t deny that underneath all his ‘strong, cool’ persona there’s an innate gentleness to his charm. Like a shyness and a deep-rooted devotion in him for the people he cares about/let in.

Capricorn-Taurus are almost unshakable when they set out for something. Whether it’s about their own opinion (incredibly stubborn) their sense of self or their trust on someone. Although they can be shy and appear sort of nervous when they first start letting someone through, you can be sure that somewhere along the line that devotion will turn in a long-lasting fidelity they’ll have for the person.

Comparative to other Capricorn decans, Capricorn-Taurus are also much more optimistic and less weighed down than Capricorn-Capricorns or Capricorn-Virgos. While others might exercise caution that turns self-destructive tendencies (chronic isolation-habits, distrust of anyone, hyper-critical and suspicious of anyone who approaches them) -- Capricorn-Taurus are one of the most social of the bunch (Venus rules social relationship)

Although they’re quiet, they easily enjoy being surrounded by others. They don’t necessarily need to talk (responsive like Capricorn-Virgo Decans) but they want to feel accepted and just --‘let be’, in the groups of people they’re surround themselves with. Most of the time, it’s very homebody-attitude, they’d rather fall into comfortable familiar habit with someone than -- y know, verbally changing it up all the time.

Taurus is the youngest of the earth signs. They’re easily appeased by Things (food, immediate gratifications, hugs, spontaneous physical contact) but with Capricorn being one of the oldest signs, they also have heightened sense of responsibility and ambitions about them.

Capricorn-Taurus are big aimers, they don’t necessarily have to know what they’re aiming for or if it’s possible. But generally, they’re not satisfied unless they have a goal/drive. The combination of the goat and the bull makes them a consistent and steady climber, a feet-on-the-ground but eyes-on-the-prize type of person. No one really knows what’s at the summit, but they’re the kind of person who would climb for the sake of reaching that top and then take it from there.

They’re not one to -- over-worry or over-work themselves unnecessarily, in fact Taurus gives them a pretty good balance of common sense (what they can do/achieve) and relaxation. They know how to indulge in their breaks, and knows when to stop working. One of the things that allows them to make time for social interaction at all is this easy-going, laid back but balanced (disciplined) manner they have with themselves and their own mental health.

Capricorn-Taurus might also tend to put social relationship as one of their top priorities unlike Capricorn-Capricorn who puts tradition, principle and fidelity (concepts) to the fore front. Capricorn-Taurus cares for the people they actually know. Family, friends and lovers are important. And the things they do, they consider and try to support those people around them.

To them, it’s all about balance. Between self-independence and goals while simultaneously learning how to be a good support system/be there for others around them. They’re not the type to ditch people (unless they have something else in their chart that indicates it)

Although one thing to make note of is that they’re usually the most stubbornly tight-lipped out of all the other Capricorn decans. They’re extremely uncommunicative when it comes to their feelings unless they learn how.

Most of the time, Taurus makes their love so deeply rooted and devoted the Capricorn self-restraint keeps them from ever speaking about it. They feel like they exude this love, this gentleness that they can often feel like verbally communicating it, is an entirely different, foreign language to them.

Love to them comes physically, and in the context of time, devotion, actions and auras. So talking or stating how they feel about others might take some time because they have to learn how.

It’s sort of like, trying to be ambidextrous? They’ve learnt how to show their affection physically since they’re a child (imagine being right-handed) that learning a different component of showing the same kind of love can feel awkward to them (learning how to be left-handed).

Unlike Capricorn-Virgo who can become verbally communicative (but tsundere) about it, or Capricorn-Capricorn who just-- states things without emotions sometimes (doesn’t mean they don’t feel emotions, just that they don’t want to burden others with their emotions) -- Capricorn-Taurus are usually in a very awkward in-between where they feel like they have this potential and expectancy of themselves, to be fluent and good at communicating their love verbally too (because they do feel all that love and it needs to be externalized) yet at the same time, they lack practice.

What makes Jaebum such a good leader is his striving nature. Capricorn-Taurus are set to pursue whatever it is they made their mind up to. Once they make it a goal, they’ll aim for it and won’t stop no matter the set back.

Capricorn Sun makes him extremely resourceful, and having that Taurus decan working for him makes him good at flipping a bad situation to stabilize the whole team (optimism and realism). No matter how ‘world ending’ a situation can be, he’s the type to tell others ‘its ok, we’ll keep trying’ -- a natural fighter, but in a grounded and stable way.

He definitely needs space, since Capricorn does tend to make him need his time away from others. Usually, it’s with people who are too nosy or Air/Fire signs who pushes and pushes too much into his business. He likes his independency, yet at the same time doesn’t like to admit his weaknesses/vulnerabilities.

Although he knows that he craves intimacy to others and the only way to show people he cares is to let his guards down. His Capricorn remains stubbornly fixed on maintaining a facade in front of others, and it lead to becoming a defense-mechanism that might cause him misunderstanding or appearing ‘two-faced’/’cares only for his statues’ when he’s with people he truly cares about. (He does it to protect himself/them that it becomes misunderstood instead. Can often feel like being stabbed in the back from the person you’re protecting. )

Watch for being stuck in a relationship that may be toxic, more so than the person, he himself can be fixed in trying to work the relationship alone. Like all the other fixed-signs, he can try to maintain a failing relationship just because he’s devoted himself to it already (emotional intensity/commitment).

Sun (Capricorn) - Conjunct - Mercury (Capricorn)

He possesses great mental prowess, often times a great and eloquent conversationalist and leader. His voice and his sense of self aligns, making him seem reliable and dependable.

Has great magnetism and power in the way he talks. People listen and feel awestruck by him. He can be soothing but also commanding.

A direct talker and thinker, he comes across as someone honest and honorable. What he says holds weight to whoever is listening.

However, he tends to be an over-thinker, and a bit of an over-worrier. His pride lies on his mental and verbal capabilities, takes on responsibilities so seriously that he can often feel like he’s disappointing people around him (even though he’s just disappointed in himself).

This might be his downfall considering he probably goes back and hits himself over everything he says, because he thought he could’ve done better.

Watch for self-decrepitation or destructive behaviour that comes from self-doubt or frustration at not being ‘enough’ or ‘doing enough’. He often feels like he has to be more, prove more and has to be accepted/loved by everyone.

He causes himself worries over the future and tends to stress himself out, even on things that hasn’t even happened yet.

Because he puts the weight of those who are depending, on him on his own shoulders. He likes to ‘hard carry’ everyone.

It might become a habit, and therefore it’s much more detrimental to him than anyone else. His biggest pride is also his biggest downfall, doesn’t know how to let anyone else in.

Incredibly stubborn on his performance and perception of himself, his self-worth is tied to his mental fortitude/ability to ‘wow’ others. Incredible hard to let his guards down, and doesn’t really know how to let others support him back.

On a lighter note, he’s extremely humorous. Often witty and takes alot of care/pride in cheering other people up due to his quips and humor, he can tend to feel hurt easily (gets whiney/sulky) if he feels he’s not heard or ignored. Especially if he made a ‘funny joke’ and tends to look for others for validation (can even point it out blatantly ‘look at what I did’ looking for some praise-- which is, endearing.)

When he’s talking to people he’s comfortable with, on a topic that he’s interested in he can become very expressive and animated. He doesn’t like being made fun of for that, since his joy and sense of self can come across looking very pure, naive and sometimes childish. Despite how his facade makes him ‘mature’ -- he really is more childish at heart.

Humorously, unless the conversation is about him he doesn’t really care for it. Can have a dramatic, often ‘me-first’ attitude (Sun) towards conversations (Mercury). Likes talking about himself best.

Sun (Capricorn) - Conjunct - Venus (Capricorn)

His sense of self (Sun) is tied to his social relationships (Venus). Again, it can be a double edge sword especially since Capricorn (in both planet) places an emphasis on fidelity, responsibilities and establishing a long-term relationships with others.

Even when the relationship might be taking advantage of him, or even if he’s uncomfortable in the relationship -- devotion and fidelity might sometimes be enough to keep him tied in it anyways.

He can also often feels like he has to carry over the burden of others along with him, and tends to worry about things he usually isn’t responsible for. Underdeveloped Capricorns finds it hard to say no to people when they come to them for help, even when they don’t have the resources to spare. This can lead him into a lot of stress/worries in disappointing others, and therefore-- more self-destructive behaviors.

Because he’s so naturally well-liked, and gifted in appeasing others, people come to him in flocks. He’s admirable and honorable, and often draws the awe of everyone else around him to him.

Has a gift for mediating and being diplomatic, but often times it can feel stifled or dogmatic in his approach. Because his Venus is in Capricorn, he ‘reviews’ the overall objectivity of the fight (whether it was a valid thing to fight over in the first place) to be the deciding factor sometimes. Can have a hard time not upsetting one-side because he doesn’t really know how to deal with emotional-fights, or one based on subjectivity.

He relies alot on people coming to him, and often doesn’t really know how to pursue other people. He can often find himself confused whether or not he is actually, genuinely attracted to someone for who they are, or just because they like him, that makes him automatically likes them.

Work comes first above all. He’s strongly disciplined and possesses great self-restraint. In fact, he does fantastic in his roles and job that he’s often promoted and trusted to do more. He thrives on an environment that is structured (JYP is pretty big, and well established) and often very adept at climbing the ladder.

He feels he can control this part of his life (which is so important to Capricorns) the self-restraint his Capricorn has truly comes in handy when he needs to abstinence himself from some kind of pleasure (which-- he takes pleasure in abstinence himself).

He feels like he’s truly working hard to make his goals/achievements come true, and when he’s given the opportunity to face challenges- he does so with willingness and a spirited direction.

It’s truly passionate person that comes from a place of deeply productive energy.

A balanced mix of feminine and masculine energy, often times he tends to overdo the masculine part just a bit. But it’s forced the feminine part of himself into being hurt, he should just let himself be sometimes.

Capricorn and Scorpio here makes one seek to be reliable in both their internal and external environment, what this means in combination to Jupiter is that he wants to be seen this way.

He feels himself obstructed or contained inside of traditions. Often times, it’s a confinement he can work by. He sometimes agrees with it, or sees it as ‘acceptable’-- he works hard under the social construct of what’s ‘traditionally acceptable’.

Yet there’s also part of him that questions some of the harsher aspect of it. He can’t help but admire those who possess an unconventional mind, and likes to assist them in navigating how to become accepted even to the conservatives.

Sun (Capricorn) - Conjunct -Neptune (Capricorn)

He often has big dreams, and big intuitions. Often times he has great sense for what’s going to happen, and can sympathize greatly with people.

He possesses a big heart, and often very comforting to be around. He’s easily moved or touched by others but might have a hard time expressing it.

His sentiments are often slow, not very showy but very touching. He feels touched by others often, and tries his best to make sure they know he sincerely appreciates him.

To him, supporting and loving those around him is so important. He’s genuinely happy for people he’s close to for achieving their dreams, the type of person who’s just--- genuinely happy for others without feeling any kind of jealousy for their personal achievements. He’s proud of them.

Scorpio Moon - (0′ degrees)

His Moon (depending on his birth time) might have been in Libra, but without an accurate time, he possesses a Scorpio Moon. In this post we’ll take into consideration how Libra might play into his Moon as well. And his overall personality in the process.

Social relationship is so important to him, it cannot be understated. Coming from the earlier Capricorn-Taurus and combining his Scorpio Moon, he often finds himself drawn to try and reconnect himself with others around him.

His emotions are deep and sensitive, often possessing an abundance of intensity that he finds it hard to control. Often times, with the combination of Capricorn needing external stabilization and Scorpio needing internal stabilization, everything can sort of feel like it’s melting or breaking out of control all the time.

He either deals with stress very well or he doesn’t at all, there’s not a lot of in-between here. For others, he can always put on a brave face and has an incredibly steady hands. But internally, he might find himself repressing his emotions more often than not.

He knows this, and it weighs on him more so than any other combination. Without stabilization inside or outside of himself, he can often feel like he’s constantly swinging from a pendulum, from one extreme to another.

Thats why he seeks out others, he possesses so much strength and self-restraint. A formidable giant.

But when the time comes, when he can relax and let himself be -- there’s so much emotion and suppressed thoughts inside of himself that it can come gushing out in floods of vulnerabilities.

Wants someone there who can truly care and support him, even when he’s feeling weak. He doesn’t ever want to be seen as weak but he knows there’ll be instances where he has to be, and he doesn’t ever want to be defined by his softer side constantly.

Wants to be seen for his duality, his tough exterior and his soft delicate emotions-- and accepted for it. You know, normalize it? But in a very sincere and honest way.

Often, he’s much like a gentle giant who only wishes to protect and be loved at the same time.

Possesses great analytical skills, in fact he possesses great strength and intensity in his emotional response alone it can be hard for him to even trust someone up close (because he’s constantly analyzing them and he can’t stop).

He feels drawn to those who are more emotionally in-tune or sensitive. Although he’s awkward with his affection, he does his best to receive affection from them and protect them.

Has deep romanticism in him, and alot of sentimentality. He devotes himself to someone, he does it entirely. There’s no holding back with him, he wants to experience everything with his partner.

May sometimes dream or get very whimsical for the idea of a perfect partner, romantically or platonically. He might feel bouts of loneliness on the inside if he doesn’t truly ‘have’ someone with him. He seeks people who can perhaps handle all the emotional intensity he has inside of him.

He wants to pursue others and want others to appreciate all the effort he puts into it (because it doesn’t come easy to him at all). With so much power and love to give, if he truly settles for someone who he feels secure enough with-- he wants to be obsessed with them to the point where they feel flattered by it (not in a creepy way, just in a way that he wants to learn all their tics and traits, wants to be ‘their ultimate best friend’ or someone they can be proud of, he wants his effort to be reciprocated.)

When his emotions are hurt, he can tend to have a very critical and sharp tongue. He lashes out emotionally, more so than any level-headed open minded approach. He says things he knows would hurt the other person the most, even when he actively tries to hold himself back.

His insecurities often turns to suspicion of people, and that can lead him to under-appreciating them or hurting them intentionally to test them.

Often appears emotionally ‘cool’ or mysterious to those who truly doesn’t know him, he seems level-headed but actually loses his temper pretty easily. Has a cool, restrained kind of anger to him.

Because of his Capricorn and Scorpio in his chart, there’s a struggle that feels more of like a brawl most of the time. One side has to be smacked down for the other to reign victorious. It’s like a pendulum, again.

His intellect/principle (Capricorn) and emotions (Scorpio) are often clashing. None of these signs wants to lose to each other, and they both exude a stronger sense of masculinity for him on the external front (even though they’re both feminine).

He may seem emotionally distanced, or personally detached from others-- most of it’s due to his own internal problems.

At this point, it wouldn’t even be called inner tension. Instead of just the normal push and pull, tug of war or tightening of the corset. Jaebum’s internal self/emotions often either feels like a complete meltdown or a god walking through the burning flames of hell going ‘this is fine’.

Whichever sides wins at the moment, the other side will get up again and fight continues. This might also be because it’s at a 0′degree (Scorpio Moon) so he has to constantly relearn and grow from the experience over and over again.

Other than that, he’s actually a really soft and sensitive person when he lets himself be. He’s naturally perceptive to others, and can handle all kind of emotional stress/duress from others. His depth of emotional intensity allows him to handle others well, yet at the same time it always feels like he’s caught off guard by his own emotions/internal development.

In tune with his own emotions, but whether or not he’ll actually express it is another matter entirely.

Considering how he’s both dramatic and intensely critical he is at the same time, it can be his biggest downfall (doesn’t know how to accept vulnerabilities within himself without feeling like he’s publicly embarrassed himself. Even between private manners.)

Moon (Scorpio) -Trine- Saturn (Aquarius)

He sometimes has (what he considers ‘insane’) thoughts of just letting it all go. Not in terms of duties or responsibilities, but his idea of ‘relaxing’ or ‘letting lose’ is more about indulgent in being less traditional.

He thinks it’s absolutely insane to just-- idealize things or let himself go with hypothetical thoughts sometimes. When dreamier placements like Pisces or Taurus brings up the idea of an idealized world, he likes to fuel into this imagination. (gosh you can tell how rigid he is sometimes even with all the sentimentality he has)

His Scorpio Moon makes him find joy in indulging them, creating a structure and some resemblance of reality for them, while his Aquarius Saturn makes him come up with ideas for an generation that lives in such world.

It’s alot like-- world creating/building? (such a Capricorn/Aquarius thing) Because he finds it so hard to lose control, the most optimistic he can let his emotions go is to this extent. Idealizing ideas, and to a certain extent, entertaining semi-believable thoughts.

Despite possessing alot of intuition and want inside of him (Sun-conjunct-Neptune/Uranus) he doesn’t like his feelings being out of control.

In fact he tends to repress them more and more in his daily life. He feels like if he loses control, it’ll break down all his credits, his reputation, his respectability. It’s usually not the case, but he’s paranoid about it. Over-dramatic, but also intensely critical.

Capricorn Mercury - 2nd Decan (ruled by Venus/Taurus)

Again, he thinks a lot about others around him. But in this sense, he’s consciously aware of it.

He works best when there’s people around him, people supporting him. He wants love and he wants possession over those love. He wants it in tangible matter, fan letters, fan gifts and small projects of dedication (birthday projects/donations), he keeps them close and reminds himself everyday that he is loved.

In fact, he’s so fucking hard on himself naturally from his Capricorn placements and Scorpio moon that he truly sees his relationship as something that’s saved him. It’s his reason to move, the reason to get up every morning. He truly feels like it owes it to everyone else, who made him who he is today-- to continue fighting for them.

He’s merely a vessel in the overall scale of things, his disciplined nature and all his efforts are just the middle-man for realizing the fan’s ideal into the world. He gives-- so much, back to the world. Words really cannot understate how much he cares about others. To the point where he’s humbly careless about himself.

Sometimes he’s riddled with so much self-decrepitating thoughts, he sees himself only for his worst self. And constantly blames himself. He everyone else who loves and supports him on a pedestal instead.

Whenever he feels down, he probably pulls out letters just to read them over and over again. So he can feel less lonely, less fucked up than how he is.

Although I doubt he does this often anymore, when he faces hardship this probably happens alot to fuel him to work even harder. To remind himself that, in that point in time, someone truly appreciates what he does. And it does matter. It does impact someone other than him and that-- is enough to keep him moving forward.

His mind reads impressions off of people, Capricorns are so observative and astute when it comes to taking care of the people around them.

The reason they feel like they’re not doing enough is because there’s dissatisfaction from the world around them, and they soak in these emotions all day every day. They’re almost like-- Pisces in a way. But in a way that they take it as it is and work with it.

So just, when there’s a moment in time; that’s captured. Where someone is just-- so genuinely happy he’s here; doing things, expressing their sincerest whole hearted support for him, the impression is so much more important for him.

It can almost be a life changing experience the first time he receives that kind of validation. It’s truly amazing, when they stop in a single moment to just breath and look around them and realize that wow, they’ve changed someone’s life.

That minuscule impression, that moment in time where they might’ve influenced someone for the better. That means the world to them.

He’s not the type to dwell, but I wanted to touch on the vulnerable moment in a Capricorn’s shield.

There’s so much emphasis earlier on his internal conflict, this Capricorn Mercury truly is the main mastermind in how his Sun and the rest of his chart becomes so Capricorn heavy. It controls everything in his life, makes things 1000x harder for him.

But at the same time, it’s how he’s lived and how he feels pleasure from living his life. It’s how he’s going to achieve success-- his way, and sometimes that path isn’t going to be easy (he doesn’t want it any other way anyways).

Mercury (Capricorn) - Conjunct - Venus (Capricorn)

He strives to bring others together, often time by mediating between people. He knows when a situation is going to go wary and what to do to stop it.

He uses himself as a shield to protect others, his instinct is to keep a cool, calm level-headedness at all times.

He’s perceptive, and would most likely-- after the conflict is avoided, look back at the person he’s protecting and give a subtle ‘you ok?’

He’s so quick on picking up on cues and scrutinizing others, he’s naturally guarded and protecting others is something he feels-- he can show his dedication to them, shielding them from harm. It’s how he shows he cares and that he loves someone.

He doesn’t make a big deal out of it, allows his actions to speak louder than words.

At the same time, he leaves it at that. He takes your word just as it is, if you say you’re ok. It’s not because he’s detached, it’s just that he trusts you. If you truly need someone to talk or make sure you’re ok, he trusts that you’ll come to him and be honest about it.

Mercury (Capricorn) - Conjunct - Mars (Capricorn)

His mind and his actions are aligned, he often possesses great power to accomplish his goals. In a way, his Scorpio Moon would benefit from this too.

Although it’s not directly correlated, he feels like his internal struggle, his emotional ones can be pushed forward through his actions. In combination to his Capricorn it makes him formidable. He’s an unmovable shield for his teammate, and a great power to push them up from.

If anyone ever needs his reassurance, that he won’t ever let any of their fucks up -- no matter how bad of a fuck up they might have made -- make them feel like he values them any less. He won’t drop them, he’s a steady presence that’ll stand by them and support them. Even if he has to discipline them in a gentle manner (Taurus Decan).

He cares for others and it shows. He’ll speak up about it, although he’ll feel more comfortable showing that he cares than actually speaking about it-- especially in terms of feelings.

He’ll speak about it in a way that’s very direct, straight-forward. But it might seem kind of detached, or more like-- someone older/more experienced looking after someone younger.

He’s sociable, yet at the same time ingenious. He often tries to break free from the mold, and feels inspired by others around him.

He enjoys company from people who are also hoping to change the world in some way. He likes the thrill it gives him, a little rebellious side to his nature.

He feels engaged intellectually, feels like it brings a purpose to his nature.

He often tries to contribute his strengths, whether or not that means his actual strength (active/physicality) or just his level-headedness. He tries to be anything that they might need, and he knows he can do .

Mercury (Capricorn) - Conjunct - Neptune (Capricorn)

He finds it easy to be creative, he often takes action/initiation over his own work and his artistry.

He finds it thrilling to his personal sense of self (Sun) that he gets to express himself this way, he has a natural inclinations for the arts.

Capricorn Venus - 2nd Decan (ruled by Venus/Taurus)

You would think he’s soft and gushy, and he is! But he’s so much more than that.

The way he shows his love, is kind of different but really in line with who he constructed himself to be on the surface.

I’ve put so much emphasis on him being ‘seen’ a certain way throughout the post, and also a lot on ‘possessing’ a certain trait and ‘obsession’ (see: tendency to blame himself) It’s all because Capricorn, Scorpio and Taurus all talks about similar things and that all points to scrambling to gain some sort of ‘Control’.

‘Control’ for him comes in form of constructing himself, constructing a shield in order to stop ‘obsessing’ over his faults and hyper-fixating his ‘habits’ (self-destruction, needing validation, feeling lonely/isolated). He keeps an inventory on his pros and cons (his traits) in terms of ‘possessing’ certain things to be proud of (’imagine’ regulation or ‘shield’ maintenance).

His pride/ego/sense of self (Sun) and how he views or feel about himself (Moon and Mercury respectably) is all tied to this-- obsessive habit he has of constantly accounting his possession in order to feel some kind of self-worth within himself.

He’s not vain at all. He’s just trying to find something to be proud of and to call his own. Something he can stand by indefinitely.

It’s a cautionary warning for those who has alot of Capricorn in them, but also an abundance of the sister signs -- Scorpio and Taurus. The way he goes about things can become an overabundance on it, all under the tonality of Capricorn which makes it all the more harder.

If you think about it, he has an emphasis of Saturn over everything in his chart. And then you have Mars and Pluto, and Venus working at the same time. There’s bound to be some clash within himself, but through it-- alot of internal change and turmoil.

That’s four opposing forces trying to fit in together. Saturn and Pluto might have similarities, but you can also see it as the planet of trying to find long term stability and hardship, meeting the planet of turmoil, change and transformation. And Venus and Mars finding the find some sort of balance between each other, but with Saturn and Pluto taking precedent they end up in a wrestling match most of the time.

So just-- keep that in mind when thinking about all this. I figured that, I should explain it at some point. And since I did talk about the softer light of Capricorn Mercury earlier I felt I needed to expand more on this as well.

Now, onto the part about his Capricorn Venus:

He’s kind of a slow and steady person, but once he decides on something he absolutely devotes to it. The initial state of making a decision isn’t really the biggest factor for him, he can make a decision pretty easily.

Capricorn Venus tends to have criteria they’ve already set for what it is they’re evaluating, if everything ‘feels’ right and is ticked off (simple things: like integrity, respectability, dedication) -- the part they’re truly dedicated to is the showing that they care part-- it comes afterwards.

He puts in so much effort into seeing his dreams created, his dreams come to life. He wants to see his artistry become something that withstand time.

The decision wasn’t hard, the hardest part was the path. That’s truly what it’s like to really understand a Capricorn Venus.

Not really one to put it out there, but there’s a sense within them that goes ‘alright, let’s do it’ and they shift gears towards pursuing those goals.

Hard work isn’t something they cower from, instead they encourage it. They want to feel like they’ve achieved something from it, like they’re truly worthy of the reward at the end of their victory (success/reputation/praise)

It’s like-- winning a medal isn’t really worth it if you’re naturally gifted for it y know? Winning a medal is only worth it if they put in work, if they felt that grind, if they’ve shared that experience with those around them and truly-- be adored for it at the end.

It’s the support, the camaraderie that comes with it that truly matters. To Capricorn Venus, it really is the journey that matters most.

They’re often not very vocal about their wants or needs, but they’re the type to be pretty direct once prompted. Like, they wouldn’t start a conversation about it but they would reply pretty honestly.

If the subject something about work/objectively they’re trying to gain something from it, they’ll often just-- stare really hard until the other person become self-aware and asks them themselves.

They know they’re not good at conversation, which is why they rely on others to instigate it for them. Contrary to like-- being a cardinal sign, he does things more through actions than words.

Honestly though let the boy sing! He has such great potential for it and he truly would’ve liked to be a great vocal at some point (acknowledged for it) y know?

With Taurus influencing his love for artistry he wants to become an accomplished singer by like-- some point in his career.

He’s actually quite studious and takes training very seriously, like he’s good at it. He’s good at theory and practice, and he actually gets things pretty fast.

In fact he can be so perceptive of like-- subtle cues or hint that he just lends a hand to others (people he cares about) as well. He’s observative, and then he kind of just-- explains it to those around him.

A bit of an individual study kind of person, he needs time to grow into something or learn something. The way he does it best is by himself, through practice.

Relies alot on muscle memory but again-- he’s cautious about it. Doesn’t tend to put all his cards into one goal and but spread them out instead, this way he has more than one option to fall back on (very thorough).

Makes him multi-talented in a lot of different things, and a stable base to go from. He can honestly go into so many different field just by this alone.

Aspects

Venus (Capricorn) - Conjunct - Mars (Capricorn)

Puts his effort into what he loves. To him, there has to be passion in what he does.

Often he knows he possesses a strength of will and need for activity, the goal he sets for himself in order to pursue/externalize those energy is important.

Once he decides he wants to be in the entertainment industry, there was really no stopping him.

Aim to reach a certain level of stability in his achievement, wants to be acknowledged and viewed positively by the public. He wants to be seen as someone who’s maybe a bit mysterious, but good-hearted and dependable. Someone who’s in it for the long-run and admirable for others to look up to.

Maybe in the future, he wants to be one of those people the younger generation would say they want to be like him. It’s one of the greatest goal.

Venus (Capricorn) - Sextile - Jupiter (Scorpio)

Posseses alot of charm and strength, people are attracted to the sensitive yet powerful side of him.

He’s abit reserved and humbled by it, but you can see he appreciates it nonetheless.

His softer side comes out when he’s flustered? Or slightly embarrassed. He’s more of a receiver than an instigator but is willing to meet others half-way most of the time.

Would like his relationships to be fair, with the public, with himself and with his personal relationships too.

To him, the external public (general public) may be his personal relationship. While his personal relationships are treated like they’re external public.

Meaning he’s much more open about himself in the public than he is with his immediate interpersonal relationships (in terms of intimacy).

Venus (Capricorn) - Conjunct - Uranus (Capricorn)

Needs his space and independency in his relationships. Doesn’t do well with someone who’s clingy or doesn’t let him have his space.

He doesn’t like-- people nosing into his business or nagging him on what to do. In fact he takes it quite seriously. Would be hurt by it because it breaches a sense of trust they have.

He trusts the other to have their independence and autonomy from him, he respects and gives space to other people. So he naturally wants to be treated the same way.

If he feels like he’s being suffocated if he has to be-- reporting what he does all the time, he’ll get really uncomfortable about it.

Venus (Capricorn) - Conjunct- Neptune (Capricorn)

Has a true love for the arts, really its the only way he feels like he can truly express himself properly without being judged for how awkward he is sometimes.

There’s a purpose here for him, can sometimes be so focused on the actuality of the career that he needs to just step away and switch gears into the creative process of things.

These are usually slower to start up, but once he’s in the zone-- he carries on with it and then he has to switch gears again to deal with the other side of his career (responding to the public versus his private creative process).

Capricorn Mars - 2nd Decan (ruled by Venus/Taurus)

He’s amazing at keeping his temper in control. In fact he absolutely hates losing control over himself. So much that expressing anger can lead to even more self-decrepitation.

The only moments he actually loses control and gets angry is when it’s prompted emotionally, as in an instantaneous reaction. (from his Moon’s response).

He feels like he’s been wronged in the most serious manner (as in, objectively, it’s not something petty. It’s a huge breach of trust, sensitivity or moral code), or someone close to him is being mistakenly taken advantage of unfairly.

Highly protective of the people around him and insanely perceptive to other people’s intentions-- he can see it coming and the way he protects others can sometimes get-- out of hand.

Scorpio-like anger from his moon; cold, chilling, cutting and powerful. Self-doubt and years of decrepitation externalized outward into actual anger (self-manipulation turned outwardly is very powerful).

Combined with Taurus here it makes him incredibly scary. It’s persistent rage. It’s shouting and yelling, it’s in your face and not backing down type of anger. It’s not listening to anyone else-- because that was the end of the line for them.

You can imagine that these sister signs are scary for a reason. Despite all the magnetism and romanticism about them, don’t ever cross them.

Given, it takes alot to get him to that point if he ever gets to it at all (considering his Capricorn’s stronghold). But if it ever happens, beware.

In fact there’s not a lot to stop him from being angry and staying angry. He’s one to hold grudges for sure, but also the kind of anger that doesn’t go away even when the other person apologizes or begs. There has to be a vindictive justice from karma and the entire downfall of the other person’s world for him to be truly satisfied.

See, as much as he loves people so deeply and is incredibly loyal to them-- when he’s absolutely hates someone he’s especially thorough as well. (powerful devotion-- it takes ALOT to get him angry.)

If it’s a person he-- cares and trust, and they’re wronged him. He usually just takes a deep breath and sit them down to talk. He’s more of the objective disciplining type. Or rather he holds himself back and then when he knows he’s calm and controlled-- he addresses the problem in a very private manner.

The type to be more about-- collaborating and understanding each other rather than ‘you’re wrong and this is why I’m right.’ -- he knows full well he has Problems of his own so he’s always going to come from a place where he’s not going to be unsympathetic, y know?

Like he’d like the same sort of mercy/lee-way given back to him. So the anger described earlier, it’s if he’s SURE it’s absolutely unacceptable, that it’s personally offensive to him-- with or without his own faults.

He truly doesn’t think he’s perfect and he’s always willing to work through it-- and be as honest about it as well when it comes to-- working through individual problems with others. (this is the stiffest way to describe it, but it would absolutely be the way he would describe the process himself as well.)

See that the self-decrepatition is so ingrained inside of himself that sometimes, people do take advantage of him for it. Subconsciously or intentionally, make sure he’s not around emotionally volatile or manipulative people would help a lot.

People who are quick to blame him for things, gaslight or becoming extremely passive aggressive towards him are going to hurt him the most. There’s no sincerity there. And Jaebum is genuine through and. through. It’s in his core. Even when he absolutely can’t see it within himself, and scrambles to find his worth in something else (’tangible’ traits) he’s absolutely blind to his own strengths and how honest he is sometimes.

Being especially aware of how some people deal with their own anger in a defensive and ‘messy’ way-- and not letting that or their relationship define him (because god forbid he’ll think it’s his responsibility to reassure or teach them how) can really help him.

Defining a sense of self that’s away from others, and letting himself grow and prosper from that really would help him develop his Capricorn better.

The problem here might be taking on too much responsibilities when it comes to other people that he blames it on himself. Again, he has to really regulate a balance between the two.

Mars (Capricorn) - Sextile - Jupiter (Scorpio)

Comes across as a very sincere person, often direct and sensitive. At the same time it’s easy to see when he’s trying to put up a ‘facade’ and can lead to people assuming he’s ‘two-faced’ or ‘hard to get to know’ because of this defensive mechanism.

He tends to take it personally as well, and tries to bring down his own walls even though it’s there essentially to protect him and it’s good for him because it defends him from people who tries to take advantage of him.

He trusts others so much, remember the part where he’s more ‘free’ to be himself to the public than his actual interpersonal relationship? Might’ve stemmed from this.

He values people’s opinions that sometimes, he’s too readily trusting of others even when it’s not good for him. Can be kind of like a kid in a way, naive and innocent to a certain extent (and will retain this sense to him even when he ages, a purity to his aura) -- needs someone to truly help guide him with his best intentions at heart.

Someone who is people smart and with the know-how, wont be lured to listen to others easily and is self-assured. That someone should also be a person he can trust, and can take care of him even in his innocent side.

That someone should want him to be free, and has a strong sense of independence and a visionary. Needs to be accepting of his emotional depth and sensitive side as well.

If you’re looking for a match (romantically or otherwise) someone with a Sagittarius, Scorpio Mercury but with a Capricorn somewhere (Venus/Mars) and Libra somewhere. Capricorn/Aquarius would also help because he has too much Capricorn not to look for it in others (Saturn aspect or decan) or possibly a strong Taurus person (developed). Platonically (or otherwise), a Virgo would get along great because they can share some of the burden together and it’s more of a balanced dynamic where he doesn’t have to suffer alone (they understand each other’s suffering/Virgo Moon).

Mars (Capricorn) - Conjunct - Uranus (Capricorn)

He likes working in the public, for the public. Maybe a specific audience but he knows his appeal. He tends to appear in a very traditional way -- as in, his charm is more of the ‘traditionally handsome’ kind and he knows he can get some support from people who likes that.

Does things like posturing and plays up his masculine side for those people, it’s possibly just for them not really for himself (since it’ll be detrimental to himself)

He feels good when he’s playing the part because he feels like he receives love and adoration that way.

The same kind of feel it is when you see someone playing sports and thinks they’re cool? He’s the person you’re admiring and he knows it. He’s having fun, and at the same time he has fans. You know? It’s really nothing bad, it’s a healthy kind of ego thing. Self-confidence!

Mars (Capricorn) - Conjunct - Neptune (Capricorn)

He likes people who are outside the box, dreamier or can tap into their creativity easier.

Often he feels stimulated by other people’s wisdom and experience, he’s humbled by it. Wants to learn from it.

It feels a lot like-- innocence in a way.

Like being on a boat trip in the middle of the ocean, blankets all around you and looking up at the starry night sky. Someone talking to you about their experience, and the world is infinite. You’re just a tiny speck of matter in the whole magnitude of everything, and he goes ‘woah’ and feels humbled by that.

Other Aspects

Saturn (Aquarius) - Square - Pluto (Scorpio)

Can make him kind of narrow minded, talks over other people. Doesn’t like changes.

He can tend to see the worst in others if he makes his mind up that they’re not really people he should trust.

Feels like his ego/mind is above others or that he knows best (Sun-Conjunct-Mercury), can be dictatorial in the worst way when he’s pressured. He just has to watch out for that.

Asteroids

Libra Juno

Looks for a relationship that’s of equal partnership, a life long partner.

Ties in pretty well with his Capricorn who needs established ties. Isn’t one to rush in easily but definitely one to commit and stays in it for a long time.

Would need a partner who would try as hard as he does in keeping the relationship afloat, makes sure he’s not taken advantage of and both of them working equally hard at achieving their own goals.

He tends to give so much into the relationship and into others that he can have a hard time taking care of himself. He doesn’t want to feel like -- losing control or being coddled. He just wants someone who can meet him at a balance, and help him keep that balance.

Makes him feel like he’s ok-- everything about him isn’t so topsy-turvry all the time. Someone who is his constant and someone who can regulate him. Not afraid to call him out but in a manner that’s non-intrusive.

Someone who doesn’t need to spend any effort or thinks its hard work to help him like that-- like it comes naturally to them.

Also a romantic, he likes romanticism so much.

He’s very sentimental and soft remember? So it’s only fair he gets to actually externalize all these hidden desire for romance onto a relationship.

He doesn’t want to overdo it, so someone who can meet him half way or lead him somewhat would help (reign him back).

Has alot of deep-rooted affection and infinite love, so he needs someone who can be in it for the long run and not like-- give up on him as soon as the emotional part runs dry for them

Committed is so important. Like the actual decision making to stay committed is important and not just-- the passionate emotional roller coaster that might bring them together for a while.

Virgo Chiron (R)

Not being too hard on himself is something he has to learn.

Wants to serve the world yet at the same time his biggest hurt is that the world spits back in his face.

Wants to be publicly accepted, possibly for his work to be acknowledged and seen as a thorough, detail-oriented hard worker.

Wants to be respected and honorable person (he is-- but in a different way) wants to be seen for all the hard work but also his studious side.

Aries Lilith

Likes action, wants to be more action-oriented in his life.

So people who are bravely themselves, reactive, dynamic and unapologetically outspoken appeals to him.

People who are direct but not crass, head strong and instigative really inspires him.

He wants to have that as a trait for himself as well. Wants to learn from others who has that factor.

Someone with a good balance of Venus-Mars like him.

Possibly someone he doesn’t have to expend himself to help too much/too often, who’s pretty balanced and has their life developed so he doesn’t have to nag is good for him.

Conclusion:

I think the main focus here that’s dictating his life might be the Sun-Conjunct-Mercury, both being in Capricorn and working strongly in his life it has domain and control over things that he does.

It keeps his Scorpio Moon in check, at the same time Jaebum has so much Venus influencing his chart that he truly deserves to be loved and appreciated for everything he does.

He has a great balance, due to his Sun and Mercury conjunction to his Mars. So between Venus and Mars, he possesses both the spirit and the sensitivity to be great at both.

The struggle for him here is embracing his Venus-influence somehow, his Scorpio might act temperamental and push him towards his Mars, but his Capricorn truly wants to be more Venus-aligned.

It’s a confusing and interesting mix. Because unlike any other readings I’ve done it really does feel like he’s constantly trying to wrestle each side of himself down into submission in order to actually ‘be’ anything (his authentic self).

Every day is a fight and it’s truly-- something amazing to witness someone continuously doing this and coming out on top without ever stopping or complaining or even talking about it. He just-- walks along the step like everyone else with this large burden on his soul that he just deals with naturally?

He never takes credit for his strength or how incredible he is as a person because that’s just how he is. He never asks anyone to sympathize or understand him completely. But he truly deserves people around him who can see this and help him anyways, because he doesn’t deserve to be alone (platonically or otherwise) -- ever.

I have never met someone with such strong Capricorn in their chart, along with this much conflict from their Scorpio and Taurus. It’s honestly kind of amazing?

A homebody, truly loves art and simple things in life. Wants peace and harmony, just wants to live in nature and be surrounded by animals.

An actual Softie Confirmed.

Such a sweet, genuine and sincere person who? just wants to have fun, goof off and do well in life.

Wants to be appreciated and love.

💕That’s it for JB! Gosh this took a turn i didn’t expect. It’s been so good to just look at his chart, I actually cried writing a bit of this because it just hits me so hard. I hope this gives you a little bit of insight/thoughts on his character.

I feel like this sort of feels more like a scenario than an actual analysis mostly because of the way I wrote it. But I actually feel satisfied with that surprisingly. Usually with astrology, you tend to leave a lee-way for another possibility (like ‘possibly’ or ‘perhaps’ or ‘maybe’) but with this reading-- I just went for it.

Again, we don’t know them personally, so maybe don’t take this so seriously. I hope it helps you feel some type of way for him though!

Hello, I am very new to DnD and I would really like some tips on how to play and roll for certain things (Im not too good with examples) etc. etc.

Howdy! Mod Nate here coming at you with some Tips for Beginners. There’s a hell of a lot to cover that I cannot fit into one post (because, let’s be honest, that would be a nightmare), but I will try my best. So, without further ado, hold onto your butts.

The Three R’s

I find there are three main aspects to remember (and master!) when starting off in DnD or other such TTRPG’s. You can sort them into three categories:

Rules,

Rol(l/e)s, and

Roleplaying

Of course there are heaps of other things to consider in game, but for a beginner, it can get overwhelming very quickly, so we’ll just stick to the Three R’s for now.

Rules

What better thing for a game than rules! The first thing you hopefully would have done if you were gearing up for your first game is to get your hands on a Player’s Handbook (For DnD 5e), or your RPG’s respective rulebook. Hobby stores, book stores, libraries, even video game shops might stock a physical copy of our favourite WotC volumes, but you can also secure them online wherever you may find them.

Once you have your grubby little goblin hands on a handbook, give it to a friend, and have them read it to you. If that gets too boring, have them explain the rules in detail - you’ll need a pen and a notebook! If that is too time-consuming or - more likely - you don’t actually have any friends, you’ll have to settle for a hurried and often last-minute explanation of the core mechanics of the game, the finer details of which will be left unaddressed until you get your creative spirit crushed by your mean Dungeon Master, or local rules lawyer.

(Remember kids, if you aren’t sure of where to locate one of these “rules lawyers”, simply talk out loud about your homebrew weapon or Pathfinder game, and they will be sure to find you!)

In this fabled Player’s Handbook you will find a fun breakdown and walkthrough of the game’s races, classes, and backgrounds, all of which you will need to read through several times and then immediately forget. Only after you have asked yourself “Which Bard School is going to make Sildaar Hallwinter not a steaming pile of crap?” for the fifth time in 10 minutes, can you move on to “equipment” and “rules”. Make sure to read these thoroughly, because you’ll learn them pretty quickly after your party’s Paladin once again forgets how many d10s to roll. It’s two, Derek. You asked the exact same question last round.

Idiot.

Rol(l/e)s

Once you manage to wrap your head around the rules, you get to the meat of the sandwich - rol(l/e)s. Whoever came up with this idiotic word hybrid (me) needs to report to their editor (also me) and get his ass whooped (still me).

Now, I know you’ve gotten this far and thought “Wait, Nate, that may have rhymed but you haven’t actually given any tips yet?!??!?!?!!/1!?!?!?!?1?!???????????”. To that, I say yes (or no?), I have(n’t?) given you tips for how to play and roll for certain things, because the biggest tip I have for you is coming right up.

Wait for it.

You cannot build a dragon’s tower without strong foundations.

Meaning: Only once you have “mastered” the rules and basics of roleplaying (and rolling!) will you be able to spread your beautiful dragon wings and soar as a damn good DnD player. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you will have to learn and remember every single mechanic or rule in the book! Because that would be a nightmare and if you can do it, you will be God. No questions asked. But hey! People make mistakes, or remember things wrong, or guess incorrectly, or even make it up as they go along. Having the handbook or Dungeon Master’s Guide on hand for these occasions will save everyone’s sanity at least once, but knowing when to draw the line between fairness and fun will make everyone’s play a whole lot better.

So! Now that you’ve become God, rolling and role-ing (not a word) are your new best friends. And you know who makes the best friends? DICE! Just google it and have fun, kids, but remember that you have to eat and sleep somewhere warm and cozy tonight, so try not to build your hoard of shiny forbidden snacks too quickly, now. All you will need for starters is your standard 7-dice set: d4, d6, d8, d10*, d12, and d20.

*The d10 often comes in pairs to act as a percentile dice. The die with the ten’s (00, 10, 20, 30, etc.) will act as the ten’s place, and the other die will act as the one’s place. So, if you roll a 60 and a 9, you get a really funny number. If you roll a 00 and a 0, that’s 100! If you roll a 00 and a 1, however, that’s a 1. You die in game and you die in real life. Goodbye.

The handbook will tell you all the dice you will need to roll in order to both run the game, and make your character! That’s right! Maths begins even before the game does. Even Death themself cannot escape the point-buy system. Just submit.

Stats are fun.

What do they mean? What do they do? Who even knows what Constitution does?! I certainly don’t! But that’s where you’re in luck, bucko.

This post is already long enough without getting to the good stuff, so I’ll keep it simple.

Strength - a measure of how well you can do stuff with your muscles. Skills like Athletics (aaaaaaand nope just athletics, huh, really? No fish-lifting skill? Huh? Cowards) will benefit from having some damn good muscles. Also you can stab stuff real good.

Dexterity - a measure of how deft, nimble, and stealthy one can be. Contributes to skills like Acrobatics and Stealth, unsurprisingly. If you can move good, you can groove good. I’d add a skill for dancing if I were you, WotC.

Constitution - I lied before when I said I had no idea what constitution does, but it was only partly a joke. Constitution contributes to skills like not dying, staying alive, and stopping being dead. Sometimes it determines how much health you have. Sometimes it means you can drink an entire frog. Don’t ask.

Intelligence - Are you a smart cookie? Can you learn languages fluently in a short span of time? Can you destroy scores of defenceless troops with a single pillar of flame? Can you read? Are you kept awake at night by their screams? Intelligence makes you good (or not) at skills like History, Religion, Arcana, and being a nerd. Oh wait. No one is good at being a nerd. Sorry nerdlord. Also, if your intelligence is under 10, you can’t read! Just like me.

Wisdom - Not the smartest cookie in the shed? Like to eat leaves? You and me both, kid! Wisdom is a measure of your STREET SMARTS! so you can throw those nasty pervert kobolds off their rhythm. Unfortunately, starting equipment does not include a money clip. It makes you good at eating dirt and walking through forests and stuff. Also I think you can pet dogs really well?

Charisma - If you’ve ever played a bard, you would know what this is. If you haven’t played a bard, it’s not too late! Quick! Choose a Warlock or a Cleric if you want a Charisma based build! Choose the entertainer background if you must! -sigh- but if you insist, charisma is a measure of how easily you can quite literally charm the pants off a dragon. Also, sometimes you can roast people really well?

Having high skills is all fine and dandy, but the next tier of DnD player character power is owning your low skills. Have low constitution? Your tiefling is sickly or has a weak stomach! Low intelligence? Your character can’t read or write! Low charisma? You cause every single npc interaction to end with you being punched in the face. There is colour and interest in every aspect of your character, so make sure to let your character sheet represent your character as well as you can!

But how do you determine these stats?

Looking in your class description, you will see under the ‘Quick Build’ section the recommended stat scores, backgrounds and/or spells for that character. These are NOT mandatory, but I find them to be a helpful guideline for how to keep your character functional and, well, alive. Stat scores themselves can be determined a few different ways: Point-buy (I have no idea how this works but it looks like a lot of maths and that’s homophobic, so); Cascading, and rolling.

Cascading (or at least that’s my name for it, I have no other way to describe it) is where you take the values 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8 and assign each to one of your stats. For example, before adding racial stat modifiers, I could assign my barbarian’s stats as follows:

STR: 15, DEX: 13, CON: 14, INT: 8, WIS: 10, CHA: 12.

I may have a character-based reason for assigning my barbarian a relatively adequate Charisma score. Maybe he was a particularly intimidating character, or perhaps his iron-will makes his Constitution a 14. Maybe he likes to dance. You could have a particularly burly mage with a strength score of 15, just because you feel like it. Maybe your cleric is part of team sweet-flips? Or your monk could study tomes night and day to get her Intelligence to a lofty 17 points post-modifiers. Balancing stat scores so that you don’t die is awesome, but having a change to shout “YOU DO NOT SEE GROG!” and win 9 times out of 10? Priceless.

Rolling your stats is perhaps the most widely-used way to determine stats, but to be safe, ask your DM (or get crafty if you’re the DM!) about their preferred method. It’s pretty simple: roll 4d6 (the six-sided dice four times), noting down each individual roll. After four rolls, you cross out the lowest roll, and add the remaining three. Repeat five more times and you have some good good stats, bro! Don’t forget to add your racial stat modifiers before you assign your stat scores!

Modifiers seem pretty confusing as a newbie, but there is a handy table in the PHB to help you keep track. Alternatively, you could subtract 10 from your score, and then half what you have left, making sure to round down! A score of 19 would have a modifier of +4 (19 - 10 = 9/2 = 4.5 ≈ 4, rounding down). A score of 8 would have a modifier of -1 (8 - 10 = -2/2 = -1). Pretty simple, right?

So now I think I can finally address whatever the F*$# I mean by ‘Roles’. What the heck is a role? Do you mean roleplaying? No, dear reader, I do not. A ‘role’ is what I like to call your position in the party. Because yes, on the unlikely occasion that you do manage to wrangle a group of people willing (or able) to play DnD with you, you still have to play with other kids, Derek. That means that the typical balancing applies. You cannot just have a 7-person party filled entirely by bards. Or bees. Though I would prefer the bees. Who would want 7 bards? That sounds like the start of a bad joke.

A good rule of thumb is to make sure you have enough bases covered in the traditional party makeup that you won’t die immediately, but you also don’t have to deal with 7 goddamn bards, Derek, I swear to God-

You’ll want someone to hit stuff, someone to get hit, someone to help those who get hit, and someone to hit things when you don’t want to get hit. This could be solved any number of ways. Get creative, go hog wild. But not buck wild, Derek. I will not have the “Seven Buskateers” at my table again, do you hear me?!

This brings us to the finale. I’ve been writing this post for half an hour, and we’re finally getting to the good stuff. Thanks for stick with me so far. Roleplaying!

It’s in the title! The very mechanics of the game! So, the question you’re asking me is: “Nate, how the Flippity Doo Daa do you roleplay?????????”

And I reply, “How are you making those noises with your mouth? Where am I?! Who are you? Why can I hear each individual question mark even though they shouldn’t have a place in the mortal coil? What are you?!”

And then I tell you about my favourite thing to tell my own players.

The easiest character to play is one that exists. So? What does that mean???

It means that YOU, my dead, dear nerd, can’t just pull a self-insert every single dang game, Damn it Derek! No one LIKES YOU! GO HOME! You have this opportunity to think of a fun, unique concept, and roll with it. So, how can you create the next Taako, or Nott, or Yashee’rak or Caduceus?

If you have a concept to work from, that’s great! If not, start from the ground up. Who is your character? What are their likes, dislikes, loves, hates, loyalties, vendettas? I often like to establish both a backstory and a goal for them to accomplish, the simpler the better, to get you on the right track. Perhaps a Neverwinter begger wishes to open their own tea shop in Ba Sing Se? A cursed child of an angel and a demon takes it upon themself to avenge their brother’s death? A simple farm girl falls in love and follows her princess Buttercup across Faerûn? You name it!

Some good questions to ask yourself about your characters personality could also include:

What would they kill for?

What would they die for?

What would they watch someone else die for?

What are some rumours your party members would have heard about your character?

What would they think of your favourite meme?

How do they treat their mum? How would they treat your mum?

Do they have any recurring nightmares? Why?

Etc. Etc. Think of them as a real being, with thoughts and feelings and hopes and dreams and fears! The more detailed you can get in theory might help in the long run. If you find yourself deviating from these details, however, don’t sweat! That’s a character’s natural development and progression as a character! In fact, if things don’t change as you play, you might have to have a look at your play style. Loosen up. No one is one emotion their entire lives. Characters lie! They hide things and change details and cheat and steal! But they also act kindly, even randomly, and change and grow. Encourage that. Let them grow. They (and your party members!) will thank you for it!
