hi! i’m trying to get into the arrowfam, what are some good comics to read?
hi!! okay so two answers to this
If you want my individual member recs they are here
but if you want to immediately read some good Family Interactions tm i'd say read Green Arrow Vol. 3 (that's the 2001 run) #1-#21! this run picks up as Ollie is resurrected years after his death in Green Arrow Vol. 2 #101.
#1-#15 is Kevin Smith's run, you'll meet mia, see a sweet reunion between ollie & roy/dinah, and as well as ollie just lovin his boy connor (unfortunately very whitewashed in this run, the 2000s were a horrible time for comic colouring) a whole lot.
#16-#21 is the archer's quest arc by Brad Meltzer, a trip down memory lane for ollie, with roy along for the ride. though with a questionable retcon at the end, it's still loved by most.
If you want to get a feel for all the fam, especially ollie's relationship with each of them, read Green Arrow 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular (2021). what a mouthful. a love letter to all things GA, though obviously some parts can be a lil confusing if you dont know some background info, but you should pick it up through context. except for the last story. its been over a year and i still have no fucking clue what happened in that thing.
all that + a touching tribute to the late great Denny O'Neil, who shaped ollie into what he is. some of the storys are very, not to be british, marmite to some fans (you either love it or you hate it), but overall its a good taster for most of the family!

i accidentally napped and had a dream (nightmare?) where a new update for stardew valley released where everything was the same except on a random day in year 3 Evelyn would just straight up die. There was a whole cutscene that started in her house where she collapsed, and then transitioned over to the hospital where Harvey gave George and Alex the worst news of their lives. However, they got to speak to her where she said something along the lines of "Yoba will protect me, and I am sure he will let me watch over you."
Alex and George would not talk to the player for more than a few words for a full season after this event. George would spend most of his time in the bedroom, so if you had less than 2 hearts with him, you could barely ever speak to him.
And Alex... oh my god, poor Alex. If you were married to him during this event, he just stayed in bed all day. Otherwise, if single, he would just stand on the beach most of the time, staring off into the ocean. If you tried to interact with him, it would just say "Alex is grieving... Better leave him be."
There was also other NPC dialogue like mayor Lewis saying "I haven't seen the community in this state of mourning since your grandfather passed..."
there was also a glitch where you could make Evelyn live forever and there were entire guides for the "immortal Evelyn glitch" that got patched out in the next update. If you tried to perform the glitch after the patch, mr. Qi would tell you that "hey, it happens to all of us. We can't prevent it, and neither can you, no matter how hard you try."

my mom loves to lie and like she always swears she was NEVER homophobic or anything to me as a child “i even have a gay work friend” but a really funny memory resurfaced recently where i asked if i could use birthday money i had to buy a rainbow flag when i was like ??? 7?? because i LOVED rainbows. and she said no that means something Evil and god will hate you . so what did i do. but ask my grandmom for a rainbow sweater for christmas and proceed to only wear that sweater for three years when it got cold because i didnt like the idea that god hated colors and i wanted to challenge him

Love the contrast between the Americans’ “Apollo” and the Soviets’ “Sputnik.” You got the Americans naming their rocket after a Greek god trying to communicate the grandness and importance of this rocket. And you got the Soviets naming their rocket “fellow traveler.” Like a friend you go on an adventure with together. This rocket is our little friend lol
#i think its cute#they took the mars rover approach#humanizing the space craft making it cute making us (me) project emotions onto it#the soviets also used imagery of laika in propaganda a lot#which is pretty fucked up imo#but if i grew up in the soviet union that shit wouldve definetly worked on me lmao#the narrative of a heroic little dog going to space and being honored by the whole country#as cruely wrong as it is its very appealing#the soviets knew what they were doing man they didnt reveal how laika really died until like. the 2000s#bc they knew people really cared about that dog#they liked the narrative around her
