Hey, brief update I guess. Winter is depressing; I'm cold and bored as shit so my number of posts may increase up to the new year. On the other hand, I may not be able to finish anything and this is pointless, so I am sorry. I do have multiple WIPs of different types of posts that should be up soon though.

With this said, I still plan to keep this as a mostly archived blog with minimal updates, as much as I have some ideas again I can't make them quickly for a lot of reasons. I work slowly, especially with the type of content I make for tumblr. Text posts are easier than my image sets but even then I fret over my stupid rambly shitposts.

Also, I did some personal rearranging and I've set up a new primary blog (@starmahgalaxies) and transferred this side blog to it. I say this as I don't want people to @ me if I reblog some of my stuff over there and that I'm stealing from myself if I include ownership tags like "my stuff" for it. I needed to separate from my old primary blog for a while now. It stopped reflecting who I was, well, at least 5-6 years ago when I first left tumblr. Instead of completely changing it I just made a new one.

The majority of my original Magi content will still remain on this blog. No need to follow me anywhere else if that's what you want. This blog will remain my baby and likely much more organized than what I decide to do over there.

I would have probably just made this my primary blog, but tumblr is weird and that requires hoops that may have ended up accidentally deleting this blog if i tried it. If I do post original Magi content over there it will likely be shipping* and art, if I go with it being easier to clump all my (fan)art over there regardless of fandom. My text posts, image edits, gifsets, etc. for Magi will remain here, so no worries <3.

This is also a head's up if I end up replying to comments here or something, that it is me. Again, because tumblr is weird and you have to reply from main. I wanted to make that clear it is me in one definitive post so that is what I am doing here.

*It's important to me being aro running a blog that is ship-neutral. I can say as well that looking at my follower list that the preferred ships can vary quite a bit, from each other and my own. It'll feel odd to start posting shipping stuff here now. Besides possible pride related things with non-specified ships, all my shipping content will remain over there.

(I have no qualms with people reblogging with ships or using my gifs in ship work. I've seen it a couple times and it's cool. I'll be upfront if I don't want that for a specific post. Trust me on that one.)

1: Why did you choose your url?

Dunno honestly lmao it was a spur of the moment kind of thing. I had no idea for a fancy name (I am. very bad at naming things) so I was just like. "dnd is cool. Dragon Age is a dnd based. let's go with that." and that's all there is to it

2: Any side blogs? If you have them, name them and why you have them.

This is my side blog haha. Decided to make it cos I was (and still am) very deep in Dragon Age Hell and didn't want to spam my main blog with my shouting about it and rambling about my DA OCs 24/7

My main blog (which is @layalu) I started getting more active on because I was getting really fed up with deviantArt (they overhauled the site about a year ago and it's even more of a mess than it was before), and while I'm still on there too it's mostly just for one single ARPG, and even that is slowly transitioning to discord/their own website so who knows. I mean knowing me chances are I'll stay there anyway lol because yknow, sentimental attachment, but I think the switch to tumblr is gonna be more or less permanent. For now, at least

3: How long have you been on tumblr?

I joined in October 2017 but wasn't really active until April this year. Made this blog around the same time too. Tbh didn't expect that I'd stay active for more than like a month or so lmao

4: Do you have a queue tag?

Nope, still haven't gotten the hang of queues lol. I did try a few times but it's still really weird to me?? Sometimes I'll draft a thing I wanna reblog later and sometimes I make a mental note to reblog a thing which I forget 60% of the time, but mostly I'll just reblog things then and there when I'm online

5: Why did you start your blog in the first place?

Again, so I can have an outlet for (one of) my current obsession aka DA lmao. Didn't expect that I'd be this active, but the community is really kind and fun and that's what's been keeping me here. It's the first time that I've ever like. actually interacted with a fandom (usually I just stay in my own little corner and am very cautious about getting involved in fandom) but so far it's been pretty cool~

I was really proud of that drawing and because I believe in Pink Flower Crown Bull supremacy

Originally screenshotted that loading screen in case I needed it for reference/lore theory notes later on and just thought it looked cool. Also the colours fit

61 :') I'm kinda picky about who I follow because I'm always very wary about how far I want to extend out into the reaches of the internet, especially in fandoms, and I'd rather have my small circle of people who I'm comfortable with. Much easier to stay out of drama and nasty places that way

12: Have you ever made a shitpost?

Pff yea. I'm more likely to reblog shitposts than make them myself though because I'm not the best shitposter lol, but you better bet I love me some good shitposts

13: How often do you use tumblr each day?

Depends? Probably comes down to like 1-2 hours most days, more when there's a lot of stuff to read or art to admire on my dash or I'm answering asks etc.. Usually I'll just check my notes every now and then in between doing things and maybe scroll through my dash, so I'm rarely on for long at a time.

14: Did you ever have a fight/argument with another blog once? Who won?

Nah. I don't have enough reach/contact for others to come and start arguments with me luckily, and I try to stay away from drama and fights myself. I'm not conflict avoidant and will debate/defend myself within reason if need be but I'd still rather the need for that doesn't arise at all. I'm just here to vibe, not to fight. Also like. not getting into fights really isn't that hard lol. Plus, everyone's been super nice so far so I don't think I'm gonna have beef with anyone any time soon.

15: How do you feel about “you need to reblog this” posts?

If you tell me "I need to reblog" I will not reblog on principle.

16: Do you like tag games?

Yea, they're fun! I'm always a bit insecure about tagging people myself (if I ever tag you and you'd rather not get tagged, please tell me!), but I always get excited when I get tagged haha

1. Why did you choose your url? I was listening to this album of the same name and decided to go with it. The title just spoke to me and I don't think I've ever changed the name of any of my blogs, so I am not very likely to do that now.

2. Any side blogs? Ah yes, this here is actually the youngest of my blogs. Still got my portfolio, a nature blog and one fairly inactive one for own written stuff. I'm definitely most active on here now though.

3. How long have you been on tumblr? My first post was in December 2010, so yeah, that's over a decade now. Man. Time really flies by, doesn't it. Though it does feel like I started that blog in a different life.

4. Do you have a queue tag? Not even using a queue on here, but even of the blog that runs almost exclusively on queue, I don't use a special tag for that, no.

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place? The first blog I started as a portfolio, to share my photography and artwork projects. This one here was always intended as a personal one where I pay absolutely no attention to certain "themes" or aesthetics and keep things more intimate.

6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp? It's Death showing his most friendly face, and I chose him because... he's somewhat adorable? The image is taken from the Carthusian Miscellany, I just made some changes to it.

7. Why did you choose your header? Well, I added a wonderful painting by Tove Jansson as a background to my icon, so why not use this one as a header as well?

8. What’s your post with the most notes? Apparently it's this post about the most German graffiti imaginable... well, it's missing the bread, but apart from that.

9. How many mutuals do you have? I don't know, but around 15 may be a good guess, I think? At least those I interact with every now and then.

10. How many followers do you have? 220, but about 90% are either inactive or pornbots, as it seems. 🤷‍♂️

11. How many people do you follow? 228, though many of those are blogs with movie caps, crossposts from history websites, etc, so it doesn't really feel like following... people.

12. Have you ever made a shitpost? Isn't every personal post a shitpost? But yeah, that's basically why I made this blog, to post and reblog whatever shitpost I like.

13. How often do you use Tumblr each day? Actually quite a lot again lately, because of people and inspiration, in a way? And out of habit, can't deny that.

DRV3 Gift Reactions (Part 1).

I’m gonna start off by saying that this is not in fact 100% complete--I’m 99.9% sure I’m missing a couple of lines (I’m making a note of it where I’m pretty sure I’m missing reactions and if you know that I am please tell me)--but it’s as close as I could get it before I had to sleep.

I was originally going to do two posts, each with 1/2 of the cast, but that’s unfortunately not possible because tumblr’s formatting/character limit says so, so instead I’ll just be posting things in chunks. First with the boys, then with the girls when I get to them.

I’ll also be making follow-up posts with both with the things I missed on the first go-around and more in-depth information about gifts with unique responses/actual commentary instead of me shitposting while still waking up/fun facts/etc. Said posts will include actual transcriptions of the responses, so look forward to that.

The rest of this post (as well as a bit more explanation) is below the cut, and be warned because it’s gonna be a hecking long one. Spoilers for Chapter 1, at the very least, are mentioned.

Here’s a masterlist.

The characters in this are: Shuichi Saihara, Kokichi Oma, and Kaito Momota.

So basically in v3, characters have gifts that they love, like, dislike, and hate. They also have gifts that don’t fall under any of these categories but that still get a reaction, which I’m referring to as ‘neutral’ for the sake of brevity. Also, the reactions are numbered, but they’re really in no particular order.

Here are the two sources I used for the character’s likes/dislikes to make this.

All of these reactions are from Chapter 1, but from what I can tell they’re generally the same between both Kaede and Shuichi--just with Kaede’s name and any other words that matter replaced.

One last thing--it seems that different characters have different numbers of responses to things.

Why did you choose your URL?

I used to play french horn. At the end of every year for my high school band, usually the older kids would come up with awards for everyone involved and I believe when I was in grade nine @to-catfish-a-bottleman crowned me the buzzy glovehorn enthusiast. Because you know. To play french horn you put your hand in the buzzy horn like a glove.

Any side blogs?

Yes I have one, it started as just the blog where I'd put stuff if I was like. Sad or felt like I was posting too much here and now it's still those things but to a lesser degree, with the addition of things I'm reblogging to save and I'll actually be able to find them later because of how infrequently I post there. It's funny because I've never explicitly told anyone the URL and my mutuals keep finding it by accident and it's kind of like a game for me to see how many of you have actually found it.

How long have you been on tumblr?

Yikes I'm not sure, I think this blog has been around since like 2017 but I definitely had one before that where I made one Harry Potter post and then lurked for the rest of it's existence. No interaction with anything. That was weird and I genuinely have no idea what the URL was.

Why did you start your blog in the first place?

Why do I do anything. Honestly I don't remember starting this blog so I don't know. It just popped into existence one day and here I am.

Why did you choose your profile picture?

I used to have plastic dinosaurs all stuck to my walls. I didn't have a pfp so I took the shittiest resolution picture known to man of one of them and bam. There's the iconic dinosaur you know and love today.

Why did you choose your header?

I went to a con with @to-catfish-a-bottleman and we saw a bunch of skeletons playing risk. Iconic. Blog worthy. I couldn't resist putting them on there and they're probably here to stay because I'm resistant to change.

What's your post with the most notes?

Not sure specifically, but some of my greatest hits include Problem Pasta, the restaurant that only played songs from the Gnomeo and Juliet (2011) soundtrack, rocks are good for holding, there's a fine line between too much outfit and not enough outfit and I'm gay so I have no idea where it is, etc. Most of the ones that get any traction tap out around 20-25 notes and I'm fine with that, considering the way that I embody the meme that's like "heartbreaking: man thought 2 or 3 note post was really more of a 5 or 6 note post".

How many mutuals do you have?

Kind of a lot, actually. I don't know what the actual number is but I. Am addicted to making friends. Thanks

102, but it feels like every day I meet another ass bot so not actually 102. A large number of them are blocked. 9 on my other blog but 4 of those are blocked too. To everyone who can read this: thank you for not being a bot/sending me unsolicited dicks. I really appreciate it.

Define shitpost. Most of my posts are shit posts, but in the kind of fandom sphere I've made a bunch for different books I've read and immediately forgotten that will, not often, but occasionally get notes.

It varies. I haven't really been active lately (hey, I'm still alive!) but when I am, I do end up on here for hours at a time. Often.

I have something I’ve been thinking about, especially now that I’m back over on Twitter (admittedly with a new account than I’d had before) and have been trying to reconcile how I utilize different platforms and why.

Long rambles so I’ll be sure to tag this long post and put under a read more.

TL;DR - I essentially traumatized myself for a political group doing research after the 2016 election, and while I thought I could handle it I found out I could not. I walked away from politics and at the same time discovered that fandom/fanfic writing was alive and well and I lost myself into writing for DA. I literally did actively avoid politics through tumblr and fandom because it was what I needed to heal. It’s why I’ve been such a shitty ally, and while I know that doesn’t excuse my inaction and silence, it hopefully explains why I hid behind privilege and often didn’t speak up. However, moving forward, that will be different.

I can no longer stay silent.

Almost four years ago, after crying my eyes out on election night, I became part of a group that was trying to decide what the fuck we could do moving forward. We all took up roles and duties we were suited for, and at the start mine was to delve into research. I was good at it, and at the time I assured them that I was able to read things that could make your skin crawl and walk away unscathed. It was a skill we needed.

And so, I set to work. I dove into the world of pro-Trumpers, the alt-right, the radicalization of young white men through the internet, and I worked on learning. I would spend my days reading reddit, 4chan, wherever I could find them gathering and sharing their ideas and plans. I took notes. I studied their lexicon and wrote it down. I figured out how they dog whistled and what terms they used around “normies” to try to bring them into the alt-right. I studied how they were trying to “red pill” people. I studied the way they actively were trying to push the Overton Window so that their ideas could be enacted further down the road.

For weeks this was all I did.

At first I was fueled by my rage and disbelief at the election, and I was hopeful we could figure it out soon and overcome. As time went on, though, I lost that hope. I couldn’t walk away from the research unscathed. I carried it around with me, crying over what I was reading, what I was discovering. The depths of hatred in people shook me to my core, as well as the realization that I had been blind to it and even a part of it at one point.

I was raised by conservatives who admire Ayn Rand, after all. It took me living out on my own and speaking to people from all walks of life that I finally began to shed both religion and my formerly held political views. Two of my closest friends are the children of illegal immigrants. They were the first of their families to graduate from college. Going to their graduation party (as well as others for their families) changed my whole world. Being the only white, English speaker in a room was exactly the kind of experience a lot of people in our country need to have.

And now I was having to research people who actively hated some of the best people I’ve ever met, and also actively worked to never be in the sort of situations I had found had changed me so completely as a person.

I gave up. I sank into such a deep depression I took to drinking more, drinking so that I could sleep instead of staying up until 5am, until I had to go seek a counselor. I was in a red state, in military healthcare, and my counselor only saw the symptoms and side effects of my depression, not the cause. I didn’t feel safe telling her that I was thoroughly depressed because of what I saw happening to my country. Because of the election.

So instead I was treated as an alcoholic, as if that was not a symptom and was in fact the main cause (don’t @ me, I know it makes it worse. But it was not the cause.)

Then I discovered Mass Effect for the first time. And I replayed Dragon Age. I fell in love with Garrus and once more with Alistair and Fenris and Cullen. Late at night, a little tipsy and wishing Garrus had had more of a romance, I googled him and discovered Ao3. And I began devouring fic. And then I had an idea for my own (Goose Bumps).

I sought refuge in fandom and fanfic. I sought refuge in telling stories. I admittedly used some problematic tropes when I first started out, so enthralled by just finally *writing* again that I didn’t pay attention to how I was consuming the media. I hadn’t written in so long, having hit writer’s block with a mystery I’d been working on (inspired by the “sundown” town I had to visit in-laws in in Illinois), and the act of just writing anything was so liberating for me I gave little thought to anything else.

Never mind the fact that my first real interaction with someone in fandom led to me being manipulated, gaslit, and abused. We’ll gloss over that part.

But these things all compiled into a me who was no longer vocal when I saw things that were more than just concerning and needed to be addressed. I ignored things that made me angry. I saw mutuals sharing important political messages and my heart would start racing and I would log out for the day. I couldn’t see the content without having an adverse reaction to it. I also didn’t want to make myself a target by saying anything - after all, I had written fics and been targeted by an abuser simply for that. What sort of reaction would I get if I helped to call out problematic art and artists?

I was frozen by fear.

I let myself be silent. I let myself take refuge in my privilege as a white cis woman. I let myself only write and block anyone who was racist/sexist/ableist/terfs/you name it. I blocked and moved on.

Because I could.

I had that luxury.

I am no longer frozen by my fear. I am now emboldened by it. I understand wanting to seek refuge in fandom. I do. If moving forward me being political here on this platform causes you distress and you have to unfollow me, trust me.

I get it.

But I can no longer allow my silence to enable those who seek to cause harm. I can no longer stay silent in the face of what is happening in the world, in my country, in my backyard - in my fandom.

This is not in response to anything more than my determination to be better than I was. For three years I’ve allowed myself to seek shelter, while not allowing others the same decency or courtesy by creating a safe space free of racism or other harmful ideologies. I’m not the only one who deserves to seek shelter in fandom. White women are not the only ones who deserve to seek shelter in fandom.

If those statements seem radical or uncomfortable to you, feel free to show yourself the door.

This is not an attempt to explain away my past (in)actions. I don’t need pats on the back. I don’t need reaffirmation. These thoughts have just been circling in my head now that I’ve finally reconnected with that group and have been politically active on Twitter and my personal Facebook again. This blog is still mostly fandom and shitposts. But I also want to be better in how I participate here, instead of keeping it just to my Twitter.

Racists, TERFs, homophobes, sexists, fascists (yes, you’re a fascist if you’re “anti-antifa” get fucked), nazis, etc - none of your like are welcome here. My art is not for you.

I It’s all so... weird and surreal. One last post to honor the tradition that really did keep me hooked on here for years. Something about those 5 years just ending. Having followed wicdiv almost from the beginning, I really feel attached to it and view it through a VERY personal lens of all the changes that happened during those years. From a depressed and passively suicidal 17yo in a highschool, to an almost graduated 22yo, trying to figure out it all with a bit more hope and a bit less of mental health issues. Eh, let’s cut it out and move to a standard spoilery bullet points format, I’m too wordy and pretentious

Of course this issue had to be happy and sad at the same point, as both life and death shine through as central motifs of the whole book, especially underlined here. Two sides of the same coin (no Yavien, you will not say ‘alexa play hyori ittai by yuzu’ to cry over hunter x hunter. no)

You know how as an urban activist I’m ideologically not a big fan of cars, but damn, that McKelvie design! Reminds me of prototypes of future cars I saw in the BMW musuem, kudos for capturing that futuristic tech feel.

I like the subtle implication that Eleanor did grow and change. But then again, she had so much time, so it’s not even that high of a bar.

‘What’s a funeral without morbidity?’ after all those years Cass stayed THE #1 goth of the cast (but Umar gets pretty close with channeling Cam). Yes, I love Cass and I love how after the kiss from #44 we got a whole ass lauracass feels issue, amazing, showstopping, incredible etc etc. You know, Im just a fan.

Gotta admit, reading the issue the first time I did miss that Laura says ‘them’ to refer to Zahid. It really explains why Kieron was so cagey about the pronouns ask back during Fandemonium. They did have time to explore thier gender and pronouns after all of the ‘2 years’ baiting. It’s a win for the nbs (sobs and cries on the floor)

Also goddamn McKelvie really popped off with all the older character designs? All those little details and shout-outs to their youger selves? And all the Minanke practice in drawing basically the same character but as a teen and as a grandma did pay off. And this all while chasing deadlines with hypermobility? Chapeau bas. Although I’m sad that Jon got his fathers aging genes, however his mom looked that age must’ve been better...

‘Every time it rains’ yes A CHRISTMAS SPECIAL SHOUTOUT BUT I AM ALRIGHT I REPEAT I AM ALRIGHT ITS NOT TEARS, IT RAINS (haha both baal ref and fma hughes funeral ref IA M FINE)

Also I’m crying for Aruna, she was in such a bad place by #13 and this issue? HEr new body? The way she learned to mix miracles and songs? And in general finally having this authority over her life? And deciding to use it paritally to help people she often barely knew? I am fine i repeat

Umar’s line about hospitals (and the picture from #16) seems to imply Cass passed away after some illness. Eleanor saying it’s unfair that she smoked and ‘got away’ with it and Cass being prepared she’d die soon kinda ties into that theory? Was it cancer or something else?

Also yeah re: that pic (and the invitation to Was It Cam Or Cass debate) - Umar has two hands, period. And like the fact that Umar literally quotes words Cam said moments before his death in Umar’s hospital room? Yeah, it’s really raining, lieutenant...

Delivering your own eulogy via a hologram is exactly this level of gay panache that Cass would embrace, I LOVE HER SO MUCH. Also being nice AF to literally everyone but in the snarkiest way possible? PEAK CASS. But yeah, something more changed because she wears a white (!!!) shirt. Now that’s a massive wardrobe change

Also ‘you were never my type. until you were’ should be An Iconic quote of gay tumblr and twitter and yes i will be using it as my lauracass otp tag from now on.

Also Cass focus on how everyone changed themself and tried to change the world, so the future people are born into a better one.

And yeah, same, I also didnt always want to be buried beneath a tree but now as I’m growing out of my old edgeperson ways? It sounds wonderful, I want to be an acorn even after death.

Also yeah, the final themes of growth that takes time, becoming better and finding hope... they resonate with me now, as I also feel like I’ve been through hell for 2 (or actually more, i think) years. But you know, rip to that old me but im different (now). Thank you Kieron for luring me into a flashy colorful YA, then a messed up and depressive story, and then climbing up the walls of hell back when I did. It was not always going to be okay, but then it was okay.

And yes, to the whole fandom, fandom that let me find so many friends all over the world and grow up as a person and have so much fun with our stupid puns and shitposts: I love you. I’ll miss you. (but honestly, still feel free to HMU etc, its not like we actually die. We just lost a source of monthly engagement, thats it. Im just a dramatic lil shit too)

Also yeah, one last word: may Two Slow Dancers by Mitski be the final, ultimate Lauracass song. Let’s all play it now, and cry. No, it’s not raining anymore, I really am crying thinking about Them.

Wait a second you don’t post NSFW content, why do you care?

This adult content purge isn’t just an attack on questionable content, it’s a veritable nuke to get rid of a spider. Some of this stuff does need to be regulated, but SFW artists are going to get (and already are) caught in the crossfire. To add insults to injury, they aren’t even really doing much to the porn bots and illegal content distributors.

Surprisingly, people who post/reblog adult content tend to actually like non-adult things as well! I get a lot of SFW commissions from people who post adult content. Everyone, even SFW artists and bloggers, will be losing followers and potential clients.

It’s one thing to ban illegal content, or slightly adjust the lines of what’s considered harmful, hate speech, etc. It’s another thing to take an entire demographic that includes vast amounts of harmless material, and suddenly decide to ban it after many years of cultivating a userbase that spent a lot of time and energy building a presence here.

A website that willingly burns down a huge portion of its customers (yes, we’re customers, we’re giving them ad revenue) because Apple doesn’t approve of their poor management? They’ll burn you again the next second a penny or two is at stake.

This is what pisses me off the most. I’m still seeing red. No body is inherently sexual, no skin is inherently sexual, no individual is inherently sexual just by existing. Saying otherwise is the core of misogyny and objectification.

All in all, I’m upset yet relieved. Tumblr has been the prime platform for fandom and art, but since the Yahoo acquisition, it’s been a cesspool of terrible management, a total lack of customer service, and absolutely no regard to their customers.

I’m a bit peeved about losing 30k followers, but while I’ve got a good customer base across other platforms, a lot of artists do not. And I’m enraged for them. That can make or break people who rely on that income.

I wish they could have had the decency to let us migrate in a reasonable time span. This whole fiasco has been nothing short of a disaster, and the plummeting stocks are a testament to that. Good riddance, tumblr.
