Okay so the song in question is this one which is the Brazilian version of a tinkerbell song and if translated back to it'd go like this
"So alone i see you
In this world, who will understand?
Your light will shine
Your love, i see it in your eyes
No one will dim that
I know that in my heart
Our love wasn't just illusion
And it won't ever die
It's so weird to see you
'Falling asleep' "
Now, that could be interpreted in many different povs, but the one that sticks out to me the most is the dca pov on the Immortal au
Warning for sensitive topics down below like depression and pretty bad mental health
If it makes no sense I'm blaming it on the 2am on the clock and the fact my brain is mush
Through the posts I make on the au you can see me commenting sometimes about how befriending the dca (or a robot overall) is Perkeo's "last shot" at pretty much everything
Now what does that mean, you may ask?
Exactly what it sounds like
You may guess their mental health is pretty fucked up just by the way they let themselves repeatedly deal with virus Moon, either getting hurt or killed when they are too tired to put in the effort to avoid him — all that so they can reach their end goal eventually to get to bring a friend home
Seems an awfully lot for simply keeping one friendship, doesn't it? Specifically considering everything else they already do. Staying over when there's no point to, getting the higher ups to give them better stuff, molding the world to how the two want it to be
That's because they really want it to work out, because that will be the last time they will put effort on someone ever again
They love and love and love and love and get tired of it. They love loving but can't deal with not having where to put down that leftover love anymore.
If it doesn't work out with Sun and Moon they will just get a quiet, isolated place to go to sleep
Because they can't die
Well, not like they would ever tell Sun and Moon about the reason they went looking for them on the first place
But it brings me back to the song, the last part
It's so weird to see you fall asleep.
It's weird for them when you sleep longer than you should. You could be knocked out cold for an entire week if they let you. Maybe even more. You say you're just built different like that.
They get worried when you exhaust yourself so much it's hard to get you to get out of bed. But it's also weird to see you in bed at all because for all the years they've known you you've always avoided resting like the plague.
It'd be weird for them if they ever decided to leave, and even weirder for them if they were to come back after a while. Because you, who is fated to always be there, is not. You're asleep. There's a letter saying to let you be.
It's so weird to see you fall asleep.
The never ending love they always saw in your eyes dimmed by no one other than yourself.
Good thing they don't plan on leaving you, either. That would be just too boring, wouldn't it?

the whole "you shouldn't identify as X, don't form an identity when you can't/don't know yet, you're too young, what if/you might change your mind!" etc etc. it's so silly when you think about it. what's wrong with changing your mind anyway? why did we all decide that gender/sexuality identity has to be static and can never change? why did we decide that it's a bad thing to change? because the old generation tells us change is bad? because they (mostly conservatives) want to conserve "the good old days/the way things are supposed to be" in their minds???
WHO CARES if someone says they're gay then realizes 5 years later they're bi. WHO CARES if someone says they're a girl and realizes after trying it out they're not. let people explore who they are until they figure it out even if they go through every lable available to them! maybe none fit and they make up their own! who cares! who cares if they change it every year for the rest of their lives! humans change. that's the only constant about us! why is it a bad thing, even taboo, to accept change and exploration within sexuality and gender specifically?
there's always so much shame that comes with someone realizing they were wrong, changing as a person, or discovering something new about themselves. i've seen people afraid to explore themselves more or afraid to talk about a change in identity, for fear of the queer community pushing back on them the same way they're afraid to come out to the cishets in their life who are trans/homophobic. that's just not fair that their own community can become hostile towards them, too. being in a closet within a bigger closet essentially. everyone is always told to figure it all out first before claiming an identity, because then you're locked in it for life, apparently. you can't change your mind after that. why though? what's the point of that really? why can't we embrace fluidity a bit more? why can't we accept that humans do change all the time? why is making and trying to prove that these identities are static/unchanging/innate the only way to validate them? why can't they just, I don't know, BE VALID. without reason. why must we jump through hoops to be valid when we should just automatically be valid because we are human. stop letting the cishets gatekeep everything, leading to us gatekeeping each other!
I am sometimes very hesitant to talk about my own identity. I identified as a gay/biromantic trans guy for like idk 8-10 years? transitioned and everything. then like a year or two ago, I realized/decided that doesn't fit right anymore. now i'm a nonbinary, but also kinda fluid, aroace person. sometimes I don't like to talk about that because of the stigma behind changing your gender/sexuality identities. but you know what. i'll talk about it anyway and people have to learn to accept it.
what were the consequences and bad parts about changing my mind/identity like that? none. absolutely none. (outside of people being weird about it for no reason) but the benefits are feeling more comfortable with myself, and that's no one else's business.

+ timeline under the cut
I'm gonna go ahead and section these off by 'era'; Mercy's old as shit and she has a handful of major life changes, so that's how I've been organizing everything. Content warnings for mentions of: medical experimentation, stillbirth & child death, cannibalism, canon-typical violence
Prewar & Enclave Era: 2060-2081
She excelled in school, got through her pre-med program early, and was accepted into U.C. Davis School of Medicine at 19. She was drafted into the U.S. Army towards the end of her second year and became a combat medic after completing basic.
She met Reed in 2068 when he was added to Mercy's squad. They were fast friends and it didn't take long for them to enter a relationship, though they were secretive about it due to rules against fraternization. They served together until 2073 when Mercy left active duty to take a position offered in West-Tek's NBC Division to assist in research on the Pan-Immunity Virion Project.
She excelled here due to her ambitious nature and willingness to sidline ethics in exchange for progress. She did occasionally question the motive behind their research as the project shifted gears over to researching FEV, but she continued with it anyways.
She had some involvement in a handful of projects and frequently moved between the East & West coasts from 2074 to early 2077.
Mercy was invited into the Enclave to continue research shortly before the Great War. She accepted the invitation and was moved to the presidential oil rig shortly before the bombs dropped.
Mercy had originally planned to move near Boston with Reed following his discharge from the Army in August 2077. Due to some advance notice/suspicion of the impending bombs and the confidential nature of her work, she repeatedly had "work delays" that prevented her from leaving California for the last few weeks leading up to the Great War.
Wyoming Era: 2083-2153
After a few years of service under the Enclave, Mercy started to have moral conflicts regarding the nature of her work. She successfully fled Control Station ENCLAVE in 2083 and fled East once she got back on the mainland. She eventually ended up in what was southern Wyoming; she came across a rural farming community and opted to stay there temporarily after finding no sign of military or Enclave presence in the surrounding areas.
After she began to settle in and let her guard down a bit, she opted to establish herself as a doctor in the community despite her lack of degree. She also began to treat animals along with humans here due to her experience working on animals in research trials.
She met a young rancher named Frances after settling into the community and they became fast friends, then lovers when their relationship dynamic shifted after a few months. Mercy moved to Frances' homestead shortly after that.
Mercy unexpectedly fell pregnant and later gave birth to twins, Isaac and Celeste, in January 2085. She and Frances eloped in October that year, and the following year Mercy established a small clinic to work out of while Frances continued to build up their homestead.
In Spring 2091, the community experienced a stretch of irregular irradiated weather and frequent radstorms. A number of people living nearby began experiencing acute radiation poisoning from the storms, including two that ghoulified. Mercy had unexpectedly become pregnant again earlier in the year, but opted to continue her work anyways. She suffered a stillbirth in late July as a result of the additional radiation exposure, and then began to go through ghoulification herself a few weeks afterwards; it took her approximately two months to fully ghoulify.
Mercy began to pick up an interest in radiation-induced mutations, as well as ghoulification, after recovering. She's able to dissect a number of animals as the community's livestock and companion animals ghoulify or develop new mutations in the years following all of the radstorms. This became something of a hobby to her and she began to develop some of her theories on mutations during this time.
Mercy & Frances’ son, Isaac, is killed by wildlife in 2106 at 22 years old. Mercy took the loss hard and stepped back from her work for a year or so to recover. During this time she got significantly more involved with the homestead and learned a number of skills, including horseback riding and roping, during this time. A few years after this, Celeste married someone from a neighboring community and moved out. She stayed in contact with Mercy and Frances for a few years, but later lost contact after moving again.
Frances died of natural causes in 2153. Mercy sold the remainder of their livestock afterwards and attempted to throw herself into her work, but only held out for a few months; she later decided to burn their homestead one night and fled the area afterwards.
Drifter Era Mk. I: 2154-2281
Mercy moved back towards the West coast after leaving Wyoming and began to live as a drifter rather than stay in one location. She frequently did courier work and picked up bounty hunting, and frequently worked as a “doctor” while in more populated areas. She primarily stayed around northern & central California, but made her way to Washington state and the Gulf of California a handful of times.
Despite the lack of equipment, she continued to study and observe wasteland mutations when she came across them. She began taking mutated bones, teeth, etc when she came across them. She also picked up an interest in studying feral ghouls, especially after realizing they’re non-hostile towards other ghouls.
Around 2240, Mercy was introduced to the Followers. She briefly attended the Angel's Boneyard Medical University through the faction, but left before completing their program due to some concern surrounding her background. She continued to support their cause around the wasteland but opted against joining them.
After 2240, she began to pick up an interest in checking out the labs & facilities she’d been at before the war to try and recover the research she’d been working on. She had very limited success on the West Coast given that the locations she focused on are The Glow & Mariposa Military Base.
New Vegas Era: 2281-2283
Mercy got shot by Benny over the platinum chip on October 19, 2281. She had minimal memory loss after this, but frequently had migraines along with issues involving her impulse control and emotional regulation. She eventually made a full recovery in 2283.
I’m not going deep into this since y’all know this plot; she went full independent Vegas ending and she’s openly hostile towards the NCR and Legion. She killed and ate Caesar, Kimball, Benny, House, & Vulpes in the main storyline.
Drifter Era Mk. II: 2283-Current
Mercy decided to begin heading towards the east coast, with Boston and D.C. as her final destinations in mind. She finally arrived in the Commonwealth in Summer 2288.
Prior to leaving Nevada, she forcibly borrowed a hayburner from a NCR ranger. She named the hayburner Karma and later discovered that Karma’s aggressive towards strangers.
She made various stops around major cities while traveling cross-country, including Chicago and New York City. She frequently dug around in these regions to seek out Enclave remnants; she successfully found and eliminated a few small groups scattered around the Midwest.
