DO NOT BE AFRAID

this is combining Ovid's Heroides and the Excidium Troie because I can't stop thinking of Hermes telling him not to be afraid. what the fuck!! Ares is wearing the crown that Paris gave him.

I have. thoughts. about Paris. he's almost got this Troilos parallel in my mind, that the event that defines him in detail exists in a lost narrative that we don't have (the Cypria), but everyone else knew. the event that defines Troilos is his death (murdered, butchered by Achilles, the violence of which haunts everything after. Achilles, child killer, you can't escape that!), and the event that defines Paris is the Judgement. what's a lost text but a kind of grave!!

idk I don't think that Paris before the Judgement would recognize himself after bc when you become god touched, it rearranges your guts. you become transformed in the worst way possible! how could you recognize yourself! but I also think that all the Parises after the Judgement would recognize each other because that event is so locked into the trauma of war and the scar it leaves on the land, it's like a scar on the narrative too. it exists like this forever, over and over again, so you exist like that forever too. Troy collects grief and despairs.

OH BOY DO I

In the original draft of this chapter, Wolf stays a, uh, wolf until like the 4th update. Instead of actually managing to get his teeth on the master sword, Loft threw him off immediately. The Deku Tree still said the line about all three of them being heroes and Slate is like. “Including the fucking dog????!” I thought it was very funny but a) it made some scenes later down the line a huge pain and b) I was tired of drawing wolves ALDKDKD

You may have noticed Wolf’s scowling in the bg of almost every panel. That’s kind of just his face, but also right now my guy is nursing the world’s biggest migraine from popping the shadow crystal out of his skull. He can stay wolfmode for a while, but it’s still technically a curse. It’s not consequence free, and there’s an upper limit for how long he can spend in that form. Anyway, cut him some slack if he’s a little prickly for a bit.

There were a lot of comments about Loft being strong enough to toss a wolf over his head lol. My hc is that he’s one of, if not the strongest Link sans any magic items like power bracelets or gauntlets. He’s actually not even as strong now as he was during his quest. Wolf maybe has him beat now, but he can still get tossed lolol

It might seem like Slate’s really taken everything that happened at the end of ch1 in stride, but don’t worry. He’s simmering. Loft is grateful for the opportunity to get distracted by something else. Maybe that’s why he was so willing to approach the wild animal he’s never seen before lol

This maybe goes without saying based on the events of the last two updates, but Slate never had wolf link with him during the events of botw. He doesn’t recognize Wolf.

I’m really glad ppl seem to be liking the colors bc I struggled with them so hard on both updates 🫠literally days of me turning to my roommate and going “I think I’ve never made anything worse” and them going “it looks good stop being dramatic” WKDJDK I have this thing where if I had an idea in my head for what an update should look like, and what I produce doesn’t meet it somehow, I start seeing in fucking. shrimp colors. Posting always gives me a confidence boost back lol.

these pages were cursed in general bc like. this doesn’t usually happen but I think I redrew every panel in this update at least 5 times each. that’s part of why it ended up being late SKDJF

I REALLY like the idea of being in the presence of the Triforce and having access to its power being this eldritch, divinely horrifying experience. The sort of thing that is impossible to explain to anyone and also haunts you forever. Loft spends a lot of time actively trying not to think about the Triforce. Just, like, remember that about him.

Like how tears in reality are shown through holes in the literal comic panels, I tried to show the concept of reality bending in the form of a panel stretching and twisting like a ribbon ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ I hope that came across. Triforce lore varies a bit from game to game, but I’ve come up with my own internal logic for bonus links that combines all the ideas I like lolol. We’ll learn more about it in due time!

I also really like this parallel :D I intentionally set up the panels so past and present loft would line up like this. i love getting to draw flashback links it’s so fun to think of ways to convey what they used to be like, and how their quests might have gone for them. Past Loft’s not having a great time by the time he reaches this point lol

Imma actually a lil embarrassed of Part1[?], that comic issa still my creation so I love it ether way~ Issa funny looking back at it (yes I know this was like a month ago and not THAT old). I was still figuring out how to draw Four and Three. The way I draw Three's facial hair now is so much better issa unreal X_x

It was also fun making up a continuation that was somewhat sensible. Making a part 2 also meant I could fix some things I wasn't into much. Like actually making Four suffer some consequences!

Oh and lil fun facts: The og/pt1 was colored on my ACTUAL tablet unlike other drawings I posted here! /ᐠ｡ꞈ｡ᐟ\

what's your favorite part of writing and drawing newoldrare?

Apart from the fact that I love writing and drawing and have fun doing it and would do it all day every day if I could, it's that I can do exactly whatever the fuck I want with it.

It's likely commercially unpublishable for a range of reasons. All the stories are designed to be printed by specific processes and assembled in ways that will probably not translate to a convenient book, and nothing about traditional publishing sounds like a good deal to me. The comments I've gotten about my other scripts relating to music have been annoying. "Young people don't know who these bands are" - okay I'm not writing YA but no problem, books are a great place to find out about new things. I'm making stories about what I'm interested in and they are an invitation for readers to join me, as I have joined many creators in their interests.

I have a few graphic novel scripts that I'd be happy to draw for traditional publication and maybe one day I'll get the chance, but I also have a full time job because I need health insurance to pay for surgery. I have rent and bills and student loans. There are only so many hours in the day, and if I'm not getting paid to do art, I will only be making art I'm insane about.

NewOldRare is what I'm insane about. The art styles and approaches are varied because I love to try different things for different stories. It'll keep growing; I have a lot of ideas noted down, a lot of scripts of various lengths written, and quite a few thumbnailed. It's small scale. It's specific. It's niche. I hide a lot of things in the backgrounds and they don't necessarily matter to the story, but they matter to me. It's probably pointless, it's just quiet snapshots of the lives of two ordinary people and it's kind of silly, but I care about it. It's partly a response to how alienating I find most queer comics/art, but it's not offering incisive commentary or judgement. It also started as a porn illustration series and I forget most people don't know that because I can't post any of it here.

I held off on posting any of it online for a pretty long time and just sent people PDFs of it because I didn't think anyone else would care - friends are obligated to at least pretend. The fact that some people I don't know like it and see value in it is strange to think about, but also very cool.

I guess that was a long way to say I love doing this work because I enjoy the process, but I also like what it represents about my development as an artist and it has helped me figure out a few things.

Venus, Art, and Feelings to Create

I wanted to make a post talking about how to use Venus to make art, since it rules over aesthetics. I tried not to focus too hard on things like painting, drawing, etc and but couldn't cover all types of art forms, so we're going with colors, feelings you can create, and some places to start if you want to give it a try.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not a pro at this, and may have explained things weirdly. Feel free to ask any questions you may have :). The pallets look different on my tablet vs phone, so tablet/computer could show up more brown and on phone it could be red etc. ALSO check your rising as well, along with aspects to placements (look to the ruling zodiac) :)

✿ 1st House - Making art revolving around yourself, personal style, and putting your personality into the art is key. Using yourself as the canvas is something you can utilize, as this is a public house. Similarly to 10th and 5th house, you are connected to your art visually, so your art and brand is associated with you, but unlike the other two houses, staying true to yourself is very important.

✿ Aries/Color Palette - Using tones of red, feelings of confidence and taking charge should be the feeling you evoke with any art you make. Empowerment is key. The viewers of your art and the things you create should be eye-catching, confident and energetic. Make people want to create art too. Don't be afraid to take the lead in any project you take part in.

• Those body painting things

✿ 2nd House - Money, opulence, and values should be shown with your art. Whether it's expensive/shiny things, fashion, or houses, general luxury items is a start. The things you make should scream expensive, no matter how much it cost to make. Modern art reminds me of this placement. Showing what you value could also be shown.

✿ Taurus/Color Pallet - Pastel earth tones are a good place to start, along with channeling that luxurious and "stubborn" (idk a better word my bad) sort of feel Taurus gives. Pairing that with the thought of values, sticking to one practice or taking your time on one thing at a time may work best for you.

• Jeweler

✿ 3rd House - Graphic novels, images to match poetry, or simply portraying people communicating are good topics. Causing a conversation with how you show your art is something that could appeal. Conversation starting art. Drawing people talking in a cafe or showing off your mental activity in an artistic way.

✿ Gemini/Color Palette - Yellows, light greens and complimenting cooler tones go with the themes of mental stimulation that Gemini needs, along with 2 things once - pairing two artistic mediums together would benefit this placement, like writing your own poetry and making the art for it, or commentary on mental things with the audience to bounce off of. Taking inspiration from another thing would also be nice.

✿ 4th House - Family life, nurturing/cozy environments, ancestry and roots could be a main focus. Things that create the feeling of home is key. Working from or for the home works well for this native. Creating things that give warmth and love, even if it's just for you.

✿ Cancer/Color Palette - Warm and loyal blues, the depth this water sign has should be a calming one. Understanding and comfort should come from this art-even if it's though provoking. Creating comfort with even bad thoughts that this art should create (like reincarnation after death if that makes sense). Understanding yourself and others should come from this art.

• Family Portraits

• Home decor

✿ 5th House - Performance, romance, and showmanship is what comes with this house. Things such as theater, singer/song writing and painting should carry ego and pride with the art. This house has the opportunity to create something out of someone else's work (theater or movies and such). Showing off your skills in a physical sense could be appealing, and making sure you're the art is key. Just don't get too egoistical.

✿ Leo/Color Palette - Oranges, golds and champagnes shine here, along with glittery things. Anything that draws the eye. Under this sign, the focus is on you, and what feeling YOU create rather than what you can make. Ghostwriting and self removal and de-glamming is not ideal with this placement. Embrace any artistic qualities you may have and inspire others to do the same, or they can watch the show.

• Face of a Brand (yours or others)

✿ 6th House - Calmer and more mundane things may appeal to this house as it rules work life, health, and pets may be your style. A focus on still life, and things that remind us of the little details are the way to go. Like Cancer and Family Portraits, you may like taking photos for things like yearbooks, scrapbooks, or newspapers. Remind people of the little things they should remember. Pet portraits are also good for this placement, drawn, painted, or photographed.

✿ Virgo/Color Palette - Back to earthy tones, and more blendable colors take focus, as Virgo focuses on the little things. Curating something that shows off the skill of observation and thought is key here as it's ruled by Mercury like Gemini. But you may want less of an external conversation and more of an internal one. Don't leave out little things. People will appreciate the care you've put in.

✿ 7th House - Marriage, business deals, and maybe even enemies leave a lot to work with in this house, ranging from a courtroom artist, painting portraits for marriages, getting business deals with any art or creating discussions on social relationships (even bad ones) are themes to work with. Anything interpersonal is up for grabs in this house, as long as it focuses only on smaller groups. Creating reflections of the viewer could work here, along with showing how to obtain balance (even with people you don't like).

✿ Libra/Color Palette - Pretty, bright and feminine colors like pink work at it's best, as to aim for as much balance and easy viewing as possible. Like Taurus, beauty oriented things shine in this zodiac. Showing the beauty in what you do is important, and creating something that means peace to you is key. No matter the medium, even though I've said it a billion times, peace and the beauty of things is what's important and works for this sign. Optimistic art.

✿ 8th House - Transformations, s*x, and death are themes to work with in this house, as getting to "the bottom of things" is a key element. Do not create something that doesn't have meaning. Fake depth does not work with this placement-which is different from creating just to create. Making art to explain something or bring an intimate feeling could be something that appeals. Darker topics can easily be explored with this placement, and self exploration is needed to create.

✿ Scorpio/Color Palette - Blacks, darker reds, browns and purples are colors to use, anything that could remind you what it's like to be hidden. A sense of mystic and magnetism comes from you and the art you create, and could leave people wanting more or just pain interested. Show people it's not bad to get their hands dirty when it comes to more personal themes, and general/self investigation is always good. Leave them questioning something they always needed to.

✿ 9th House - Dreams and inspiration of overseas, religion and philosophy is important. Creative freedom and learning and expression is big for this house, and a releasing of any chains artistically would be good. A painting, a poem, or even just teaching about religion through your art is something that could work. Keeping things as open to ideas as possible is key. Inflexibly is something to avoid.

✿ Sagittarius/Color Palette: Shades of strong purples, and general vibrant shades work for this zodiac. (Personally I do associate this color with oranges idk why just thought I'd throw that in). Freedom and foreign things are things to show off. Sagittarius are known for wanting and fighting for freedom, and invoking a feeling of elsewhereness is nice. Even in forms of things like comedy, making someone feel like they're not where they are is the goal. Putting heavy emphasis on the comedy, though. Y'all are funny lmao.

✿ 10th House - Achievement, Status and how people view you is at play here, having the public eye being the main thing to keep in mind. You may pay attention more to personal aesthetics and style, keeping a leash on how people see you and your art. You could also be very focused on art in general, maybe even wanting it to be the first thing people see when it comes to you. Display your skills as in this house, like 5th, you're connected to your skills. Hard work and displaying it is important. Staying committed to projects be nice. Even being known for how you dress, your specific style or how you wear your makeup could be appearing, so leave people in awe of your dedication.

✿ Capricorn/Color Palette - Grays, dark greens and browns are colors that may suit you. Out of all of the earth signs, to me, Capricorn screams commitment. Showing off the work you've put into anything you make, and creating stability with your craft is something you want to provide. With the art you make, show off your natural ability to make something consistent and how you evolve into something better. Self betterment and achievement is something a Capricorns may like showing off in their work, regardless of what it is. Things like pencil sketching, and single tone art could be appearing. Avoid laziness, but remember to take breaks.

Using tech for your art could be something you work with, and showing off individually and futuristic ideas to create a head of time art pieces to make people hope for a better/cooler future is something you could like. Future is the keyword to create with this zodiac, as looking forward to create something new and never seen before is something desirable, and giving a change to viewers is the goal. Things such as game design, beat creating and such is something to work with. Remember while individuality is important, you don't need to create something ENTIRELY new for it to be good.

✿ 12th House - Isolation, mental health and things that are hidden are the themes, creating the most personal depth out of all the water houses. While 1st house is presenting your outward self, 12th could be hiding it or simply dissecting your own brain and fears. They may even keep their love of you to themselves, or you could also not feel the need to show off your art, and keep it close to home.

✿ Pisces/Color Palette - Light greens, and watery colors are the go to for this zodiac sign, anything reminiscent of the beach is something you may feel drawn to. Beaches, liminal spaces, and dreamy effects may appeal to you, wanting to create something that, like Sagittarius, makes the viewer feel like they're somewhere else, but in this case, it's a more watery and head in the clouds elsewhere. Dream states and a feeling of calm is something to make the viewer feel. Remember to stay grounded, don't just daydream about your art. Do it.

LOFAM 5 ACT 2 - COVER ART

recently i had the opportunity to contribute to the new lofam so i thought i'd share the album covers i did here! (with commentary)

starting off with probably my favorite cover art for what might be my favorite song: sburban juxtaposition. the track is so good i basically drew the whole cover while listening to it on loop. coloring the meteors was a lot of fun too. rose's pose is actually inspired by miles' leap of faith from spider-man: into the spiderverse (the spiderverse movies have consumed me ever since i saw atsv in theatres, it can't be helped).

next up we have celestial company. the track is very relaxing, i figured it would make sense to replicate that feeling in the art itself through adding pleasant shades of blue to skaia and john's hood. i also added a yellow spirograph for contrast. i think it worked out pretty well!

sunbumper! a very upbeat and energetic jade track. there's two cool things about this image: one thing is a rather obvious nod to the neverending story, while the other thing is hidden in plain sight. it's a reference to outer wilds, i'll say this much.

caliborn's lament. look. i couldn't not jump at the opportunity to draw art for a song that adapts act 6 act 6 act 4. i just love caliborn, and that's all there really is to say on the matter. his comically sad face is probably the best thing i drew for this project.

karkat loses his mind and learns holy c. i tried a different style for this one, since it's for a song referencing templeos. editing the logos and all was a really funny experience. there's also this Pleasant Hoofbeast Drawing, which i never really got to use:

maybe it'll turn out better this time is a title that immediately reminded me of the retcon. in the cover art, i decided to highlight how the joy of the post retcon timeline almost completely overshadows the suffering of characters that we actually followed for years. idk, replacing these guys with slightly different versions of them always felt weird to me.

aaaaand that's it! hope you guys enjoyed these covers (and the lengthy commentary) just as much as i enjoyed making them :3

i always wonder about the cleaning situation at the loft. do they have a big cleaning day once in a while? do they ask coil to send someone to clean? does alec ever do the washing up? if so, is he an ipad baby who watched gaming channels while doing so?

i ascribe to a headcanon obtained from this gorgeous art:

(eternally thinking about this artists rendition of the loft. sooo incredibly lived-in....captures the Essence of those guys and they're not even in the drawing. i love you blood-spattered fancy shirt alec left on the counter i love you lisa's bra laying around on their massive pile of laundry i love you brian's protein powder on top of the fridge.)

which is to say:

they have a big whiteboard for delineating chores and alec is always doodling all over it and everyone gets affectionately mad at him for this

i'm obsessed w the implication in the last part of the drawing i snipped that tattletale had to do the other undersiders chores every day of the week but on the one day that was supposed to be hers alec did her chores instead. perhaps as some kind of insufferable bit, or perhaps because he felt he should recompense her for having to do his chores after he accidentally laid facedown in bed all monday because "he was tired" (having a bad day in the depression department)

i think brian does a comically disproportionate amount of the cleaning for someone who does not actually fucking live there. he'll see a mess that could Easily have been fixed already sitting there 5 days in a row and get annoyed enough to clean it up while alec is laying on the couch like [thinking 2 himself] Victory....I knew I wouldn't have to do it if I waited long enough... + sometimes lisa walks in on him just scrubbing the stove clean or some other task 15yos would not think to do and she wisely elects not to ask What For bc she knows that will result in brian going on a homeowners tangent

lisa and alec make rachel handle any Notably Gross Or Difficult chores if brian isnt there. lisa hovering over rachels shoulder directing her in how to fix their busted toilet while alec eats a bag of cool ranch doritos in the doorway and provides commentary. theyre holding the ladder steady for her while she changes the lightbulbs. butch of the house

also i think one time a dog threw up on the carpet and alec was like BITCH!!!! BITCH YOUR DOG JUST THREW UP ON THE CARPET IT'S REALLY GROSS and rachel trudges off to get cleaning supplies from the closet and then another dog comes up and starts eating it and alec is like BITCH!!!!! BITCH JUDAS IS EATING IT IT'S REALLY GROSS and rachel is like [furious] SO STOP HIM. and alec is like Ewww...nooo ew his face is covered in doggie upchuck i'm not touching him...and then rachel makes a really ominous growling noise so alec goes and hauls on judas' collar to drag him away but hes not happy about it

they always all throw a buncha clothes on the laundry pile when they come back tired after a mission and then theyre like Ok we will do that tomorrow. and then tomorrow theyre like id rather rest tho....so their laundry pile grows infinitely larger until they all miserably have to spend an afternoon cooperating to get that shit washed. And don't even get me started on the "folding" side of things.

oh gosh. i'm not sure, but i know it definitely WILL affect their parenting... i think at first donnie will find himself just... deferring to his partner a LOT in almost any situation because he's afraid that he'll fuck it up, because he DOESN'T feel like he understands proper boundaries or what parenting is supposed to look like, etc etc etc, and he's afraid he'll mess up. he probably reads a TON of parenting books as well because RESEARCH and will often try to pull directly from them in any situation he can, and is confused when things don't go exactly the way they were described in the text... leo i think kind of tends to flounder between being overprotective and feeling the desire to protect his son from everything and anything and wanting to overcorrect this tendency by pulling back and trying to give him as much freedom and space as possible, which sometimes leads to some... inconsistencies. there's definitely a learning curve for both of them, but they both get the hang of it eventually. they both have lovely partners and a very loving and supportive family to help them and they'll figure it out with a bit of practice.

i like to imagine them all staying very close, especially coz i'm loosely planning on them all going through the kraang-apocalypse together (and then coming through to the other side!) so i can't imagine them ever drifting too far from each other, emotionally or geographically. there's a bit of a rocky start for a lot of them, but all of the siblings end up a very tight-knit bunch.

First of all I love your Yugi, is so freaking adorable, big fan over here aaaaaa.

And okay we're gonna talk about comics. Oh boy. It's not a topic I dont like talking but it's something I get way too.... intense, even if I feel I don't have much to defend with. Anyway I'll try to not be so detailed and serious about it so I can bring a decent commentary!

Disclaimer that I have a lot of issues with the use of thought bubbles, but that's a me thing. Myself I try to avoid them so I can focus on a "show more, talk less" type of flow. So if I start talking about them it's because of that, not that you'r doing a bad thing or anything.

I like how you use the panels, by themselves and ignoring the dialogues, they work perfectly fine! I think my thing with the pacing is that I'd draw a 3-4 pages comics instead of 2 for this scene alone. It's a pain I know, but I think for this type of scenario adding a little more of time could help to appreciate some details, like Kaiba being notoriously angry, the moment he touches Yugi's forehead, etc. But this is also a very personal opinion because I'm a sucker for very sloooow interactions, so all this I'm saying is for the sake of a slower pacing. Sadly you gotta draw more or write less if you want to get that effect, also you can get in a situation where things end up vague and ugh, what a pain hjdfhjhds.

I have a serious problem with dialogue bubbles, I never know where to put them Dx. I always feel they're on the way or that they hinder the reading or that they look straight up ugly hahahaha. I think you use a good space for them! they're not in the way of the faces or important scenes, but I can see you needed to add arrows for the conversation to work. In my opinion the dialogue works perfectly without the arrows. We all know there are two people talking so having only the faces on the bubbles was enough to understand who was talking and what order follow.

Now, if you want to work on bubbles without using the faces to show who's talking and don't lose the order in the way, I could recommend something like this:

Sorry if it looks way too clumsy! But a thing we artist have to deal is how the order of the bubbles affects on the flow of the dialogue. Specially when we don't have a specific way to show how the person talks (for example japaneses have many ways to show character's expression so it's easier for them to identify it.) So we need to focus on the flow.

A wonderful person who talks TONS of this matter is the motherfucker Scott McCoud!

This is just an example of how dialogues can contribute to the time and spaces and how the order affects the reading. This is not the exact example for what I mean but Scott is a badass of the comic and the complexity of it.

Understanding Comics The invisible Art is a masterpiece, I blame him for making me doubt is I'm doing a good job or not.

Okay before I go way too into this, one last thing and this is personal opinion. I love white background but you gotta be very careful to not make it look like lazyness. You don't need to draw a full background but maybe adding some shading can help to make the illusion of space rather than having a blank space. Of course this is just my opinion.

Anyway, I really like how you work! my huge recommendation would be to simply take your time on it, I feel it shows a bit of impatience or nerviousness, but that's just my idea. So far you're going a good way on creating comics and I'd love to see more of them :3

You ever think about how Brenner said he always thought Henry was out there, hiding in the darkness. You ever think about how that line is followed directly by a recap of them exploring the original lab gate.

And then maybe you wonder about how El managed to escape in 1983. Her escaping out that tunnel, just like Henry showed her in NINA.

Then maybe you think about closet scene in NINA happening at night...despite the massacre happening during the day...and the 1983 escape vibes that has.

And the fact that that scene was entirely spliced in, and we never see closet guy again after that scene.

And then...I just think...Season 1

"And the boy?" "Still missing."

We assume Brenner's talking about Will when he says "the boy", since Will is our main focus at the time, but now, with the "First Message from the UD" not being Will's first time talking from wherever he disappeared to...

I'm not 100% sold anymore.

We've always assumed it was Will talking through the lights whenever they're being helpful, despite ST showing us over and over that the lights blinking and shifting just means someone is near them.

And now, in this latest TFS teaser...

It's the origin of the Upside Down. The first message from the Upside Down.

It does make me wonder who, exactly, was speaking when the lights spelled out RUN.

On a directly related note: Another thing that's struck me as odd all along was the teasing and commentary about monsters in TFS—

There are a lot of monsters.

And I initially went "but how, if no one opens gates until El does it in 1979? Is someone else opening them in the 50s? Are we talking about something else entirely?"

We've always assumed that Henry had never opened a gate/didn't have the ability to open gates because we never see him do it in the flashbacks. We've also assumed that he can't do it because Vecna couldn't do it. But if Henry isn't Vecna...then who's to say what his powers entail?

There's something about the Lost Sister, too. Kali having these vision powers but no remote viewing. All of Kali's One coding, behaviorally, as opposed to El and her refusal to go along with it. El having gate powers and remote viewing (remote viewing seems to be less unique, Ten had it as well, it's less of a tell)...especially when compared to the BTS teaser:

That plus the lost sister having initially been titled "The Lost Brother" and casting for men like Jamie...Something stinks about Henry-El Kali-One copycatting, here.

It makes me wonder who may have been opening gates like the one in the tree...or the one in the wall of the Byers' house, which would have allowed Will to escape, but only ended up drawing attention to him. Something about trying to help and making things worse by doing so.

Anyway, back to my original point.

We all assume Will has powers (and maybe he does, I don't know), and that he was the one who told Joyce to run in ST1, but now I'm wondering if we haven't been duped all along.

After all, who's the boy we just saw in the TFS teaser, the one who's shown using (what seem to be) remote viewing powers while holding hands with Sue Sinclair? How about the boy Patty Newby falls for? The boy Victor Creel loves to the moon and back? The "sensitive" boy who keeps spiders as pets in fully furnished jars? The boy who's so paralleled to Will that it's almost comical?

That's Henry, no?

So when we ask "Who's signaling for Joyce to run?"...let's put Mister "I tried to help, but it only made things worse", the guy who knew Joyce in the 50s, back on the table.

Sorry for the delay in this response; last week was chaotic. As for Exton and Halverton headcanons, here are some I have:

Exton:

Like @applesandbannas747 I believe that Exton has bunk beds and Jesse sleeps on top

Jesse HAS been to Eton

For all his like of sweets, Jesse has never had a cavity

Also LOVE the headcanon that Marcel is Jewish (courtesy of @applesandbannas747)

Marcel has either 2 or 3 younger siblings that he ADORES; they are all elementary school age

If he wasn't into fencing, Marcel would likely be a swimmer

Marcel has been on Exton's team every year since he was a freshman

Thomas is the older twin

Thomas's favorite color is lavender; Aster likes green (iykyk lmao)

When they were in middle school Aster and Thomas tried to pretend to be each other, but when their teachers found out they got scared they'd get in trouble and never tried again. It failed because Aster couldn't stop scowling at annoying people and Thomas didn't want to be mean.

Halverton:

Scott has an older sister (in university) that taught him how to sew

Obviously he drags his team into his nerdy nonsense pursuits (eg. watching every single LOTR movie the extended edition with commentary or whatever, Comic-Con, other cons, probably a LARP or two)

I second @applesandbannas747's headcanon that Van's folks own the San Remo Ballroom

Van probably has some background in modeling or does it as a side hobby

Van is the youngest with a couple of older sisters

Gian is actually REALLY good at dancing, he's very intuitive about it

Gian has a younger nonbinary sibling that he teases mercilessly, but truly loves

Sungchul can draw pretty good, but he has no strong attachments to it

He does not like drama, which is why he refused to go Exton (having heard about the fallout between Jesse and Seiji)

Sungchul and Scott are probably roommates; were it not for Scott, Sungchul would probably be a loner type

Thoughts, Headcanons and Comments on Morgana Mawcaber (My AU).

This here is more of a commentary blog and maybe a rant, it can also be considered as a headcanon blog and also for Morgana fans. For those who want to, they can read it as they wish, but I'm already advancing that it's LONG and will have some low-level words (I'll censor it, but it's still worth it). Feel free to leave comments about your opinions...

Many people may not know, but I like romance. I've already said a few times that I like "Enemies to Lovers", very flirtatious couples, etc. But I'm not much of a talker about WHICH ships I like and, well... For those of you who see my drawings a lot... I usually draw a LOT of my OC Silk Touch with Darkwing Duck. I admit that this ship is one of my favorites from OC x Canon and one of the ones I'm most proud of working on. However... To the surprise of a LOT of people... The CANON Darkwing Duck ship that I like the most is... Morgwing! Morgana Mawcaber and Darkwing Duck/Drake Mallard! I think for some people it's a little obvious, because I drew them and I've already said a few times about the comic that I wanted to follow the Canon of the classic Darkwing Duck series (sorry Drakepad fans, but I think Drake is straight). And particularly, I genuinely like the concept of their couple dynamics. A hero and a witch... I really like it a lot!... The problem is that I don't think it's explored well... TuT

Like... There were very few episodes that showed their relationship, most of them were a lot of fighting and some I don't like, personally. The episode at Morgana's restaurant and the Valentine's Day episode where Negaduck came in the middle... I dislike it SO MUCH! And I also see that a lot of people don't like Morgana... So much so that I think that, for these reasons, there is a lot of Drake OC x Canon shipping... But anyway... Here I want to reformulate the couple and give it a a little more breadth to Morgana's personality, giving a little more context to EVERYTHING about her. And since we're getting into this shipping thing, let's talk about him first...

Okay, first... A lot of people I think question why Morgana fell in love with Drake, which is understandable... He's completely selfish, self-centered, arrogant and is probably unstable with relationships (I'll leave that last one part to comment on Drake's blog). So... In my view... It was purely for Drake's body! WAIT, CALM DOWN- LET ME EXPLAIN!!! I consider that, firstly, she just really wanted Drake/Darkwing as a worker zombie who would help her in the restaurant, but she would also have a certain more... Eh... Intense... As for his body... If they understand me... :'>

So... Think about Morticia and Gomez from the Addams Family... It's a little EXPLICIT that they have a more physical relationship and (pardon the word if you're a Christian or don't like hearing this...) something more lustful. Just watch the kissing scenes and certain adult jokes. They certainly have a lot of tension between them.

I've seen many headcanons that Drake and Morgana WOULD HAVE this more physical relationship (but it would be less explicit, please...) and I agree. And, considering Morgana... I have no doubt whatsoever that she would have been interested, FIRST, in Drake's body (because, especially in DT 2017, he looks like a standard, handsome blonde man). And Morgana, I don't even need to comment... Drake got dizzy just seeing her and I think he got a little... How to say...? Kind of tense in a different way... (My God, it's tense to say this kind of thing here...:'³).

But you might be wondering: "Okay, but how did this turn into love and develop into dating?" It's simple... Coexistence! Like... Many couples who start out physically end up developing a feeling of love. As much as Drake is an extremely complicated person and probably difficult to live with, I think Morgana is... And many artists agree... Drake WASN'T Morgana's first boyfriend! Come on... Morgana looks young, BUT SHE'S A WITCH!!! SHE MUST BE ABOUT 200 YEARS OLD!!! The woman must have a lot of experience with dating. The one who would be "new to love" would be Drake! Because, yes, he has never dated anyone in his life! That's why he was so disconcerted when he saw Morgana and even when they started dating. But as a philosopher once said... "Passion is fleeting, love lasts a lifetime." And, despite being a bit controversial, there is a grain of truth to it. So, yeah... Despite the fights... There would still be love in their relationship.

Okay, moving on to her personality... I admit that it's quite irritating due to a single factor... Even though she has characteristics of flirting a lot, being a witch and having a certain "strange" air for traditional families (•cough• Binkie, I hate y-)... I still see traits of a standard and stereotypical woman of the time... Don't get me wrong, this stereotype isn't exactly bad, it's just problematic and I don't feel it matches the character of Morgana. If I were to change her... I certainly have the best inspirations for her!

Eda from The Owl House and Mary Jane from Spider Man...

Let's start with Eda... She's basically a rebellious witch, completely relaxed (in the beginning, at least), EXTREMELY powerful, who speaks her mind and is very good at fighting! On the other side, we have Mary Jane... Peter Parker's girlfriend is basically a strong woman, completely debauched, VERY beautiful, a little too loose (if you know what I mean) and also, despite everything... She is a good person who really loves Peter. Mixing these two... It would make Morgana from our Fan Comic! Basically that's it! But there is another factor and here I will pull the hook to another topic...

Several artists who reimagine Morgana in a DT 17 version often make her a black person... I didn't quite understand why... Until I saw that the woman's voice actress is a black person, then everything made sense in my head. However, I have many reservations about this... It has already been said in the series that the Mawcaber Mansion is in Transylvania (I know it's a cliché for monsters to live there, but follow the reasoning). And Transylvania is in Romania, a country (unfortunately) little known. Then I thought... "Technically, Morgana is a witch, which means she's a different race... And she lives in Romania... Technically, you could consider her a foreigner or an immigrant? 🤔".

(For those who are bad at geography, here is a map of where Romania is.)

This opens up something else in my head that... If Morgana lived isolated with her family, in a country that didn't have so many resources... The reason she went to St. Canarian would probably be to really have opportunities! She wanted to have her restaurant and that's why she would have gone to the United States. So, you could say that, in the Comic, she would be an "immigrant" from Romania. Which also comes with the issue of her not being of another "race" and her basically having little social skills... Now you must understand my point... You can say that, in terms of social skills, she is like Drake... In other words, neither of them are good at socializing. And that's why they'll get along so well...

To sum up this whole blog for you... In my AU, Morgana is an immigrant from Romania who dreams of having her own restaurant and that's why she went to St. Canarian. Her and Drake's relationship, in the beginning, was very... Physical... But over time, they both really fell in love. And Morgana's personality... We mixed with Morticia Addams, Mary Jane and Eda. And so, the Morgana of our AU is formed.

hey what’re your thoughts on bnha rn. you’re like one of the only dudes i trust with opinions on this manga/anime lmao

LOL idk why im one of the only guys u trust for manga/anime opinions BUT SURE do you mean like... what do I think of the current plot? or mha in general? (I will answer both. i love to talk) current plot: (SPOILERS) It's clearly the final arc and its clearly taking longer than Horikoshi intended lol. Overall it's decent shounen fare? Nothing mindblowing but it's well drawn and weekly developments r fun so im not complaining. I'm not the type to get rly invested in villains so AFO/shigaraki even Dabi are only interesting to me thematically and as characters I don't rly care but the visuals are cool enough. I love the pure white negative space hair and Horikoshi clearly loves AKIRA LOL. I will say I LOVE the ongoing Boku No Open Heart Surgery saga that's going on with Bakugo though. I love that they have to save him in some ridiculous weird power-based way lol, normal first aid would be booooring!! + I think its smart for the manga to keep him teetering on the edge of death and flashing his lifeless body every 5 pgs (lol) because it means even if the final fight drags a lil I'll keep tuning in.

in general: There's a lot of shounen manga out there but there's only one shounen manga that caters specifically to people who love the school aspect of x-men comics so I think I'm pre-disposed to love mha based on that alone. Beyond that, I love how idiosyncratic and energetic horikoshi's art style is.. I feel like the two things u can tell right off the bat abt his drawings is that he draws rly fast and that he rly loves his characters lol. Evident in the sketches he puts on twitter and the bonus content in all the tankobon volumes (it's also great for ""content""" he's a good content creator), he's always coming up with situations and outfits and concepts on the fly for those kids like they truly live in his brain. Also the more I read the more I realize I actually quite enjoy Horikoshi's writing too? I think he really clearly grew up with and adores paying homage to corny shounen superhero stuff but he's also very genre savvy and (I think) purposefully avoids a lot of common criticisms and pitfalls. Like the power scaling is pretty tame, the adults never truly give up responsibility of the kids & continue to own up to mistakes/endangerment (but never so much as to prevent the kids from doing cool action stuff!! duh), the cast is relatively well balanced despite being so big etc etc... It's not perfect, there's pretty significant failing on gender parity, and some of the pacing is way better in archival format > week-to-week but it's pretty good overall. Also its funny?? I feel like in the midst of 9486135613 action battle series + generic anime comedy we forget to address when something actually has good jokes and i think mha does. The aoyama cheese stuff made me laugh, the kids protesting biased commentary was funny as hell, and honestly i think mirio distracting afo with his ass?? funnier than naruto's final yaoi no jutsu imo. Sorry if you wanted me to dish out criticism I know its kind of popular to hate on mha rn because it's pretty generic low-brow shounen. And also adults who obsess over yaoi-ifying these kids are like the butt of the joke on the internet rn. But I don't rly run in fandom circles, it's just a solid manga to me with fun characters. Actually 90% of the reason I started reading mha again was because I listened to the mangasplaining ep abt it recently and they made me remember how much there was to like! Good to listen to if you want a more fandom-free objective take on the manga. Also Horikoshi credits all of his assistants in a bonus page in every volume! just a cool thing to note! kinda rare for a mangaka and kind of important for a series that requires as much assistant work as a wsj shounen. I feel like the amount of assistants that have gone on to lead mha spin off manga projects is kind of testament to how good his relationship w them is.

Your thoughts on She-Hulk ep 8?

I loved pretty much everything!

Yes, so, I was finally able to watch the rest of She-Hulk (I lost access to Disney+ partway through, so it took some finagling) and I do have thoughts! First, as I've mentioned previously, I loved the show overall; I thought it stayed very true to the spirit of the She-Hulk runs I have read (though to be clear, I'm not a Shulkie completist), was really funny (the knockoff "Avongers" merch in that one episode got me. I was on the floor), delivered some sharp commentary on the rampant misogyny in fan spaces and towards media with female leads (often drawing from actual online responses to the show by Comicsgate-types, which was genius), and poked fun at superhero tropes in a way that felt-- again-- true to the character and also mostly in a spirit of love, which is very important. I wanted to start with this because one of the things that kind of drove me nuts while the show was airing was seeing people prioritize the various cameos over the actual fact that freaking Jen Walters, She-Hulk herself, had a TV show, and I loved that she actually broke the fourth wall to call people out on this at one point.

(I'm glad this screenshot now exists in the world, and I'm worried that I might have to pull it out again when Echo's show airs. But hopefully not...)

But the cameos were fun, and felt correct for a show dealing with superhero law and tropes-- you do need a whole bunch of superheroes and villains around for that sort of thing, and I like that they went for an eclectic mix of big names and more obscure characters. Anyone who follows my Iron Fist blog might have seen me freaking out about the surprise appearance of El Aguila, one of my favorite side characters from Power Man and Iron Fist volume 1 (more freaking out will be forthcoming; I'm going to write a post about him when I have two seconds to spare). His MCU counterpart was kind of a parody version of the character, but that was true for many of the D-listers in the show, and I'd never expected to get El Aguila in anything, so I was still pretty dang thrilled. He even had his mutant powers! Amazing! We got MCU El Aguila before, like, MCU Scott Summers.

He also appeared alongside Man-Bull, who is a wonderfully weird Daredevil villain who I also never expected to see adapted. The decision to use El Aguila rather than the more obvious Matador was a little surprising (though I didn't mind at all), but a friend told me that she thought she had heard that they weren't allowed to use the Matador...which is intriguing... Hopefully it's because he's going to be the Big Bad in Daredevil season 4. One thing I was fairly disappointed by was the fact that we didn't get an appearance from Trish Walker, whose modern-day comics counterpart Patsy Walker/Hellcat is very close friends with Jen. However, considering MCU Trish's current situation, I can see why they made that choice. Tonally, this wasn't the right place to continue her story. Fingers crossed, though, for future interactions. Someone needs to get her out of prison!

But anyway, on to the main focus of this post-- this guy:

They definitely made this Leap-Frog hype-up ad as a joke, because hahaha, who gets excited about Leap-Frog, right? Joke's on them: I get excited about Leap-Frog. I was losing my tiny Silver-Age-Daredevil-fan mind that entire night, even knowing that it would be a while before I'd actually be able to watch the episode. Do you know how amazing it is that we got Leap-Frog in this thing? Leap-Frog in a largely comics-accurate costume? Leap-Frog who was allowed to be Silver Age goofy? Leap-Frog with a CATCHPHRASE? (I'm largely allergic to MCU things being imported into the comics-- if I have to open a Daredevil issue and read "the Devil's of Hell's Kitchen" with my own two eyes ever again, it's going to be my supervillain origin), but if 616 Leap-Frog were to start saying "ribbit and rip it", it wouldn't bother me. In all honesty, I didn't think he quite lived up to the hype. He was essentially a different character, and wasn't tremendously Leap-Frog-y when you got right down to it. But seeing him bouncing around in that green rubber costume still filled me with joy, and gave me hope that this might open the door for other such characters. Other fun, wacky, classic Silver Age villains who are long (emphasis on long) overdue an MCU debut. Stilt-Man. I'm talking about Stilt-Man.

In any case, I hope that anyone who might not have checked out She-Hulk yet will give it a try. It's a fun ride.

Psyche. Okay, yes, I'm also going to talk about Daredevil.

To be brief: I really, really liked this cameo. My interest in MCU Daredevil pretty much died in 2018 with the Big Cancellation, and as many bolts of lightning as I shoot through it (or...Hand ninja I sacrifice for it? I guess that's more on-theme), I haven't managed to revive it yet. It was fun while it lasted, but it's not a version of the character that really appeals to me much in isolation, and at the end of the day, I'm a Daredevil fan because I like the comics.

I also have the same issues with Charlie Cox playing Matt Murdock that I think a lot of people have, though that's not something I really feel I need to go into in this post. On the most superficial and shallow level possible (sorry), he just doesn't look like Matt to me, which is something I was able to overcome in the Netflix shows because when you're watching something for thirteen hours straight, eventually your brain adapts. But getting this brief cameo after having not seen him for four years, it was extra jarring, and it actually threw me out of the story a few times. He walked into the courtroom in that one scene and said he was Matt Murdock, and I'm afraid my immediate reaction was, "Pfff, what? No, you're not." (Also...his American accent has not really improved, which was just something I'd assumed he would have been working on.)

But my longstanding quibbles about casting aside (and to be clear, I love that people like the asker above like him in the role! I think for many people who got into DD through the MCU, he is their Matt Murdock, and I fully respect that), this is the live action Daredevil content that I've been waiting for ever since it became clear that the Netflix show was wedded to its dark, tortured version of the character and would not be touching on many of the other attributes that make Matt interesting to me. If this had come out at least five years ago, I would have gone completely bonkers over it-- and even now, I had a thoroughly great time watching this cameo. I had hoped, but I'd never, ever imagined that we'd actually get the yellow suit--especially after the Netflix show picked the practical-but-boring Man Without Fear/"Trial of the Incredible Hulk" outfit as his origin costume. And you know what? It looked pretty good.

For a "grounded" live action take, I think they did a decent job of translating the feel of the yellow costume while being shackled to a certain expected MCU DD aesthetic as established by the Netflix show's version of the red suit. I particularly liked that...that...

No, I'm sorry. I can't do this. Let me just...

Okay, THERE we go.

As I was saying, I thought they did a solid job referencing this most classic of DD costumes, and I would love to see him wear it in more than just this cameo.

And with the yellow suit came-- my god-- the quippy, swashbuckly Matt I have been longing for. The fight with Leapfrog was fun! The banter with Jen was great! I don't know what else to say! Swashbuckly Matt = Happy Daresplaining. What a relief to finally see that side of his personality make an appearance in this universe, and from an in-character perspective, to see him finally finding that confidence and joy in his adventuring. I hope that the Daredevil show (if it ever actually happens at this rate...) pulls from this; that we didn't just get a lighthearted Matt because She-Hulk was a comedy show.

And the romance was a surprise, but I didn't mind it. It was handled with humor, and it's not a relationship that exists in the comics so it was a fun new concept to play around with. Plus, both 616 Jen and Matt are characters with pretty hefty love lives, so it fits. And even more to the point, as the third asker above mentions, it took a baffling 40 YEARS for Marvel's two most prominent superhero lawyers to even interact, finally facing off for the first time in Soule's She-Hulk run, so I cherish every new scene they have together in any medium because they're great together. I was a little--"worried" is too strong a word, but maybe "cautious"--about how this would be handled from Matt's end, since he's really not a one-night-stand kind of guy. He falls in love easily and dates a lot, but it's dating. He gets attached to people. He clings. But this ended up seeming like maybe not a one-night-stand after all. The last episode seemed to imply that they were still together, so...is this going to be a thing? Are MCU Jen and Matt a couple now? Anyway, it was fun to have a bit of the soap opera-flavored drama of 616 Matt's love life filter into the MCU, because it really didn't come up much in the Netflix show.

In any case, to make a long and much-delayed post short, while MCU Daredevil will have to work very hard to re-earn my interest, I did enjoy this, and loved She-Hulk. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a show that's an all-around good time.
