Why So Rude? (Or Yuu's BF Asks Crewel for their Hand in Marriage and What Happens Next Will Shock You)
Tumblr media
For legal reasons, this is a joke. I have been dealing with a health issue of sorts (i am not dying so no worrying ok? just v annoyed) so writing longer stuff is escaping me at the moment, enjoy some crack while I take a breather. More can be found on my masterlist here.
Tumblr media
NO (FLOYD, Rook, and Malleus)
Crewel has been in denial about this "relationship" since it started. Not that his disapproval is really going to stop Floyd, but Crewel 100% refers to him as "Yuu's ex boyfriend" much to the confusion of... everyone who hears that. They do find some common ground in their shared interest in fashion, but Crewel has never forgiven him for his behavior in his class OR his "stealing" Yuu's heart.
Rook on the other hand he didn't have too much of an issue with until he realized just how familiar he seemed to be with his home for someone who had supposedly only been there to visit you. The twenty page letter he wrote to confess his feelings to you didn't help either once he saw the few lines where Rook wrote about the beauty of your finger prints, but he knows his disapproval means very little to someone as obsessed with romance as Rook.
Malleus... is the King of a country genuinely hostile to humans and Crewel thinks he is a little too obsessed with Yuu for his own good. He is also not a fan of how condescending Malleus is towards his disapproval, but it's an issue that will be worked out eventually. They are fighting out of love for the same person, your safety and happiness is all they really care about at the end of the day.
No, but as a joke (Sebek and Jack)
I don't think he has anything against him really, he just wants to see how important tradition and the opinion of his elders actually is to him. When Sebek begins to plead his case because he does not wish to put a wedge between Yuu and their father figure, but cannot deny his feelings for Yuu Crewel's more than happy to "change his mind." He knows you will be happy and well looked after.
Jack is a solid partner, and he is a wolf beastman who speaks of Yuu as his soulmate, his one and only, his eternal life partner and- well. Crewel just can't resist a bit of teasing, he's always been so serious and easy to fluster about these sort of things. The sheepish look on his face when he realizes Crewel has been teasing him makes it very worth it.
I can't stop you can I... (Leona, Kalim, and Rollo)
While Crewel has faith that Leona has what it takes to save his home- he lives in the Sunset Savannah. That is really far away from the Queendom of Roses ( ; ω ; ) have some pity on your poor father he can't travel that far all the time it's bad for his skin. The pressures of being the partner of royalty is something he worries over, but a smug promise from Leona to protect you soothes his worries somewhat.
The flippant way Kalim talks about the assassination attempts is not the way Crewel wants to hear about attempts on your life or heaven forbid your death. Kalim is very sympathetic to this, he has no real argument against how ignorant he was in the past, but he isn't a child anymore. Just filled with a childlike love for the world and determination to make it better. It is hard to say no to that.
Rollo is too much like Trein. His request for your hand in marriage feels like something that the old man would cry tears of genuine joy over, so of course he hates it. Unfortunately he also knows how much this teen grandfather matters to you or whatever so the answer will be yes. At least he has an excuse to visit Fleur City more now.
Give me one good reason. (Azul, Jade, Idia, and Lilia)
Azul was such a good student that he should have zero complaints that you started dating. But he also isn't blind and dislikes being pandered to, which is very much what Azul is doing here. He does wonder briefly if this is a cultural thing and he is being insensitive, but he is still exasperated enough to not immediately say yes. The strange twinkle that comes to Azul's eyes at the prospect of negotiations makes him wish he had though.
Speaking of not being blind, what does the Leech family do and is it legal? Survey says probably yes, but Crewel remembers dealing with Jade's parents while he was in school and has no desire to feed his child to the shar- err eels. Jade immediately begins to sniffle, oh how could Crewel say such bad things about him? A poor innocent eel and blah blah blah. If Jade wasn't such a good partner he'd be cooked.
Crewel understands and appreciates the effort Idia has put in to his personal growth and he has no desire to shit on that... but S.T.Y.X. and the secrecy around it is no joke. He wants to continue having a relationship with Yuu and as soon as Idia reassures him of that he has no more objections.
Lilia is an old man, a war criminal, and a father. Of course Crewel has seen how he was able to live as a student while at NRC but his own credit as a father would be under fire if he didn't object mildly. Lilia has some fun with it and has a bit more respect for him for objecting. So long as the eventual answer is yes.
Yes (Riddle, Trey, Cater, Ruggie, Jamil, and Epel)
While Crewel does have some red flag concerns concerning Riddle's mother, he has no real objections to Riddle himself. He is a perfect gentlemen and the correct amount of nervous to be asking the question. He gets full marks, as if there would ever be any other outcome.
Trey is that sort of solid option that parents really love, but he also has that tight personal relationship with Crewel from his Science Club days. He lives in the Queendom and is tight with his own family there are few better places for Yuu to be.
While Cater isn't Crewel's favorite student, he doesn't hate him or the Shaftlands. He is also not entirely unconvinced that him asking is for a magicam trend but! He has no real major objections. He is more than ready to have two kids, as soon as Cater is willing to admit he could use a stable father figure.
I don't think that Ruggie would even suggest marrige unless he's obtained that stable, high paying job he so baldy wants and has moved his Granny out of the slums. It's the perfect time to ask for permission to propose, and while the Savannah is still super far away (r.i.p. Crewel's skin) he is much more supportive of the two of you and how far you've come.
Similarly to Ruggie, I don't think Jamil would propose to Yuu unless his personal issues with Kalim and his position with the Asim's had been sorted. He wants to actually travel on his honeymoon, and Crewel is very willing to suggest the Queendom of Roses. Jamil's ego is absolutely stroked by how Crewel had zero objections but your adoptive dad doesn't get to see how smug it makes him, Jamil saves the smirks for when you say yes.
I think that Crewel seems to like all of the first years, and Epel is no exception. Sure, his request starts out well put together and polite but devolves into a dialect that leaves Crewel with no idea of what he's saying, but he has a general idea. Of course Epel has his blessing, Harveston sounds like a lovely place for Yuu to live their life in Twisted Wonderland and Epel a perfect person to keep them safe and happy.
He already planned the wedding (Ace, Deuce, Silver and Vil)
I know what you're saying. Crewel approving of Ace? Of course he does! He was in his homeroom class, and Crewel has a soft spot for trouble makers from the Queendom, he was one after all! Sure he might have had some problems with him when you first started dating, but now, when he is deathly serious saying he wants to spend the rest of his life with you? Crewel has been waiting for this since he fist saw carrot head yanking your chain.
Deuce is a much easier sell, Crewel was always a bit harsh on his intelligence, but only because he ran a tight ship and wanted him to reach for the stars. Well he has, and he has you to support him through it, Crewel is so proud of both. He and Dilla have absolutely been hypothetically planning this for years.
While Silver's curse did not endear him to Crewel for his first two years of schooling, he really grew on him when you started going out. He's glad that you've found someone who loves you as much as Silver does, really he is. Unfortunately this means he has to plan a wedding with Lilia, something they both have been doing since you started going out and never talked about. Don't worry! They only intend to fight a lot little bit.
The instant you started dating Vil Crewel entered his mother of the bride era. The permission asking was less Vil wanting to be polite and more him coming up with a way to distract him and convince him to focus on designing the clothes. Thankfully it works and no one other than his dogs have to know just how insane the prospect of his two favorite students marrying made him.

With friends like this...
I usually wouldn't pay attention to what a very contrived, very minor troll player writes.
But this, this made me immediately howl. Legit:
Tumblr media
Answering an Anon she probably wrote herself (not that it matters), this person summons the Gods of Critical Thinking. In doing so, she manages some stupendous gobbledygook.
I understand C's resounding silence forces you to pretzel your three collective neurons until there is no tomorrow. However, policing the fandom is no easy task, plus I am sure that you are not on a retainer (unlike others) and/or whatsoever qualified to act as Her Taciturn Majesty's spokeswoman.
Face it: she doesn't need you and, based on what we know, she is perfectly able to speak for herself. That's harsh, I know - but real.
Let me see if I understood correctly, madam. You basically say this, in plain English:
If the Queen of Kale doesn't post, that doesn't mean she can't thank people in person or by private email 'and/or via handwritten note'.
Excuse me, what? 'Handwritten note'? Where the fuck are we, the Kingdom of Syldavia?
🤣🤣🤣
Hey, BIF, let me guess: Tish Baldridge and 1962 called and you, being bored and home alone, picked up the phone, right?
Right?
Undeterred, you add: 'maybe she shared with her sponsors and hosts the reason for this choice ' (remember, LOL: being unexplainably, ahem, forgetful) and 'they understand'.
Lady, this is PR 101: if you promote something I graciously entrusted you with, I want the bang for my buck. This is not a 'the dog ate my homework' kind of situation, here. This is quid pro quo, as far as sponsors and sponsoring go.
Remember (LOL) : sponsors are not your ('understanding') friends. Sponsors are people with whom you did sign a contract, a legally binding document that spells out your mutual rights and obligations. Such as, for example, to post something on your socials every time you appear at an event hosted by the designer/creator, you name it.
And this is precisely how I knew no such thing happened, at the London Fashion Week. She was under no legal obligation to post anything. Sure, it would have been nice and polite towards those kind people inviting. But that's not the point, here and this is exactly why you went berserk. The point is it would have been normal interaction with this fandom and excuse me, but it's her prerogative not to do so. I don't remember having signed any legal document together, Mrs. B and I. She doesn't owe me anything. The only thing she owes herself, in this situation, is to make sure her image is properly taken care of.
Congratulations, madam: while babbling pointlessly about sponsors and handwritten notes, you've just (#inadvertently) thrown your Goddess under the bus.
A bon entendeur...

Fanfic: what is it anyway?
This post set my thoughts rambling about the edges of fanfic and its many definitions again.
At one end of the Fanfic Definition Spectrum, you have people who consider fanfic to be stories written in the time period to which modern copyright laws apply, which use copyrighted characters and settings, and can be shared publicly only because they make no money.
Many people seem to believe that the fanfic that is closest to this definition is also least likely to be 'real writing' because of its relative lack of originality.
I don't think this is true. Writing within a set of tight constraints may look easy, but doing it well is as hard as, say, sticking to a complex rhyme scheme or writing to a strict word count.
The fact that some people are doing the thing without any great skill does not devalue the people who are doing it with artistry. Disliking a story for conforming to a pattern is individual taste, not an absolute judgement of writing skill in the task undertaken.
This definition of fanfic is obviously incomplete. Fanfic can be and is written for canons outside legal copyright protection. And a great deal of content published as fanfic is highly original, in that it does not use the setting it is riffing off, makes massive plot and characterisation changes, focuses on characters who barely appear in the canon.
Sometimes the only hint that this story is fanfic of a copyrighted work is that it has been tagged as such.
Some of these stories are written by skilled writers with a depth of research and creativity that frankly seem to outshine the work they tagged as their inspiration.
Some are not much of a delight to read for anyone except presumably the writer. I am not sure we can deduce anything from this, except that the barriers to entry are low and there's no requirement for fanfic to please anyone but the writer. The fact that there are terrible fanfics does not make the superb fanfics bad, in the same way that the novel is not permanently scarred by the terrible works that have been given that label.
But originality is definitely not the border of fanfic. Fanfic CAN be commentary on an original canon, but it can also be a story that nobody has ever told before in which all the characters are ferrets.
So both the legal limitation (it's about copyrighted stuff) and the originality limitation fail. Neither is a good border around the outside of 'what is fanfic'.
At the other end of the Fanfic Definition Spectrum, you have people who consider all writing that uses existing ideas, characters and worldbuilding to be fanfic, regardless of date or copyright status.
A good thing about this approach is that it actually includes all the fanfic.
The first definition means that all the fanfic about things that aren't copyrighted works of fiction is excluded, despite the intentions of the writers.
If I write a story about, say, Beorhtnoth, and publish it as fanfic, I can't see why I should be excluded from being read and judged as part of the body of works-that-are-fanfic, because both the historical figure and the literary work The Battle of Maldon fall way outside the period covered by modern copyright law.
The awkward thing is that this broader definition includes content that pre-dates the term 'fanfic', and/or co-opts writers who did not think they were writing fanfic into that category.
Tolkien wrote a story based on The Battle of Maldon, and presumably did not intend it to be fanfic, though it absolutely fits all parts of the fanfic definition apart from the copyright/date term invented one.
I think I'm coming back to the definition: that thing people have been doing since the dawn of time? Some of us call it fanfic, when we do it, now.
But that does lead me again to say: why can we NOT call it fanfic when someone else does it? Why is that label writer-opt-in, rather than reader-applied? It seems like the only reason that really fits here is 'because a lot of people think the word fanfic is an insult.'

We're sick so I wrote a stand up comedy script about being a system called "Late night insomnia (and fever) driven system themed stand up comedy" or just "Dudes Inside Disorder"
[Sources from some jokes are in the bottom of the post, if you click any of the little numbers they will send you to the original Google document I used for writing]
Hello and welcome to this mess of a show, my legal name is unimportant since you are not the government to be concerned about it but you guys can call this sack of meat and bones “Basket” or “Basket System” if you want to quote on quote full name us. A little background about that name, it is supposed to be more like one of those baskets that you often find in farmer markets full of fruits and berries and stuff, but you can kinda also see it as a dirty laundry basket too because, to be fair, these clothes? They stink a bit now, you just can't smell from your chairs which is probably better for the sake of both of us.
You didn't need to know that but, oh well, I'm already over sharing tonight, what a little more to throw at the mix.
If you don't know what a system is, don't worry, I will explain, a system is a little silly thing the human brain does where it gives you silly guys to live with inside your brain alongside you. And if you're already thinking “I never met a system before nor heard about one ever” then it might be because of 1 out of 3 reasons: Either a. You must really live along with people without trauma or problems which, good for you, b. We only tell very close friends or partners about this kind of stuff so someone might not want to cause problems in the relationship or something along those lines, or c. Damn, you might be the problem. Like sincerely, you must be the reason why we don't talk about it so openly and only so secretly and we have to be like the LGBTQ community almost getting out of the closet and all that.
And honestly if you are the type of guy that heard about the people in your head stuff and immediately thought “Oh like that one movie, Shattered” then yes you are the problem so me and my other 50 friends are coming for you, except that when I mean my other 50 friends I really mean 1 body with 50 people in their frontal lobe.
Because really, get that movie out of the way, the people who did it are hated so much by thousands of people who actually suffer from this, including us. So let's clear up what a system really is like.
Being a system is more like living in a house with so many roommates you lost count and also almost never see and then one day you go to the fridge to get that one snack that you were saving for later, and then going to said fridge and not finding it and immediately screaming “WHO THE FUCK ATE MY SNACK?!” except you scream it internally and not out loud in front of your parents who are already disappointed in the fact that you either keep saying that you can't remember your childhood, which I'm sure they worked so fucking hard to give you a memorable one (/s, shaking head, dead stare), or the fact that you are a little too fruity for them and you don't want them to know so soon how mentally ill you actually are. And after that you just start planning murder and then suddenly and without any notice you just hear someone behind you saying “Calm down, it's fine, we can get it later, it's no worry” and you're just there mid planning going “When the fuck did you fucking appear? Like dude, at least make a little sound. Also this is my problem, it doesn't concern you.” and the guy just responds with “It does concern me because in fact you're planning on murdering my son. You're planning the murder of 6-year-old Timmy here over a snack.” and then you just don't know how to feel, either you feel like an asshole or you still keep going on with your plans because technically they can't put you in jail for beating the shit out of a child that resides inside your frontal lobe.
Yeah, just to be safe, never ask a system what crimes have been committed inside that brain, because in fact, it might be a lot. Some might even say arson and you'll be so glad that the fire 10-year-old Sarah did was in a safe space and not in a forest unlike a middle-aged singlet woman making a baby shower.
Oh, right yeah I haven't talked about how we call you guys, right. Systems refers to normal people as “singlets”, comes from the word “singular”. Yeah we have to pretend we are singlets a lot. Either it's school, a job, social media even, Thanksgiving, Christmas, for government papers like a birth certificate, imagine if the government creates a law for systems where we have to update the birth certificate everytime we get a new silly guy in the headband they just attach the list of names and date of splitting to the already 1 page long certificate using tape or staples, the list would be fucking endless and we would contribute a fucking lot to global warming. It's not like we even care about the headcount a lot, we also sometimes don't keep count of how many people are in this sack of bones and meat. Also it's hilarious when you start talking about introjects because you might as well be committing either illegal cloning or identity theft in the eyes of the government, so. Yeah better to not keep track of the infinite amounts of Wilbur Soot's in every system and how many each body has as well, they would end each shift like “How many Wilbur's did you count today?” “Today was a chill day, only 22. Like 5 different bodies, it was cool. One of them was trans I think.” like it's no longer ‘How much did they pay you this week?’ it's ‘How many times did you have to press ctrl+v this evening?’.
The government would be like “You wouldn't download a movie” or even “You wouldn't download a car”, well, guess what bitch, I fucking downloaded a car and his fucking name is Lighting McQueen.[1]
Honesty sometimes I feel like introjects are like Rule 34 even, if there's a character there's an introject, especially if there's a lot of attention on that media, oh boy. I'm just gonna say, the quantity of Marvel introjects I've seen, even worse than when DSMP was popularized. For you who are not zoomers, that's something off the internet which was basically a theater club to say the least, don't ask, you don't wanna know, you don't ask more questions about it nor say why did Dream actually needed to stay in jail forever because if you do you're gonna get doxxed. And it's not fun, look at us we change identity every random amount of time because of this exact same thing. Just kidding it is not because of that, it's because someone was mean to us at the ripe age of 8, so now we're fucked up mentally[2] (with an up-beat voice). Now, we're 15 fuckers in a trench coat with one goal, taking a nap, and also trying to figure out who ate the last of the fettuccine Alfredo. I'm looking at you, Alejandro. (looking at nothing) You could've just left a note. I won't be mad for eating my leftovers (nodding at audience while mouthing “Yes, I will” )
What's also fun about this (whisper: “it is not, not really”) is that, you don't only get DID, the “Dudes Inside” Disorder, you also get a fun little combo of other mental illnesses so you don't miss out on the offer, like a McDonald's promotion where you just pay $2 extra and get something else, the same here, you get a little bit more fucked up and you get a new guy and a mental disorder, like ADHD, autism, OCD, BPD, Bipolar, PTSD, anxiety, the whole DSM-5 diagnosis criteria. Like yeah they can come free with your new guy, even bundle up and the newbie could also be like “Oh my God, I wanna front and experience life like I have never been more alive” a then when they experience life and also with the several other disorders and even sometimes disabilities that the body can have they're just like “…I don't want to be here anymore, I wanna go home” and then there's the one alter who's been there for the last 5 years just looking from afar and saying “You must be new here, welcome to hell” like an old war veteran while they're just, what, 17?
And then you do the math and realize “Goddamn that 17-year-old was 12 when they appeared” and to that I say, and in complete honesty, the people that can appear can already come pre-traumatized like a pre-cooked meal that you just pop into the microwave. It's no longer “I can fix him” now it's “I will get him so he goes to therapy himself”.[3] I got that one off system Tumblr, it's fine the amnesia will make them forget they ever did that joke. Also, you're not even the one checking what's available in the alter market, the brain just looks and analyzes the world like a menu like “What do I need at this moment, a medium ugly half dead man? No, too fruity. Boy failure male wife wet cat? Too pathetic. An intergalactic teenager from another species, a completely different civilization with completely different culture, skin colour, inhumane features and an asshole personality? (Gasp) Yeah I'll get that. Excuse me, I'll get the Karkat Vantas, directly from Homestuck, don't do any of those fancy AU stuff, I'll get the original. Can I make that a combo? Yeah, give me the social anxiety, extra shake. Want this to get called a nervous system[4] instead of whatever name they made up for themselves, thanks”
Another thing that also changes a lot is how you consume content, either a song, a series, movie, you name it. You guys are just out there saying “I want to watch this movie” let's take Penguins of Madagascar as an example, and you just get through the movie, silly movie, funny even, you enjoyed it and then never think about it again until that one night you're scrolling Netflix, great. But as a system? Oh boy.
As a system, you have to pray to finish the movie sometimes. Either someone else wanted to see the movie too and can be a child or an adult so now either they kicked you or you're getting a friend to chat with during the movie, sometimes even babysit but everything cool, you finish the movie and mission accomplished, you survived.
Or also what can happen is a secret third thing which we all just sweat cold at night. If you get through the movie, amazing, you made it, now pray so Riko doesn't follow you home like a demon attached to you, don't matter which fucking God you have to pray to, even if it's the angel inside your brain you got from reading the fucking Bible back when you were on Sunday school or fucking Zeus, you just do. You're atheist? Not anymore, you need all celestial help you can get so he doesn't appear ever. You heard his voice? No you fucking didn't. Just keep walking. You don't wanna hear it from the host, or the system manager, asking when and how did we get an arsonist terrorist spy penguin that can puke bombs at will and also doesn't communicate very well. Anyways, just smile and wave…wait, NO.
One last thing I want to talk about is how diverse sometimes the alters in systems can get, they can be transgender, cisgender, human, non-human, straight up animals, demons, angels, a fucked up drawing you did when you were 12, anything. And also leaves the room for them to be part of the LGBTQ community and also form families and relationships in the same system.
For example, remember Timmy? The 7-year-old about to be murdered? And how this guy just said “That's my child?” yeah, we just, start saying shit like that, sometimes is because of the memories that they have before forming or it can be just because they saw a child and said “Yoink, now you're my son” like there's a 50/50. But a lot of systems consider each other family and that's actually very nice. Even internal dating happens, genuinely. Which yeah, it is already pretty fruity to have silly little guys inside you, now they're actually gay?[5] Damn, okay box of fruit loops, we get it, calm down. That's actually what one of our singlet friends told us when I explained my relationship with my fucking husband which lives with me in the same frontal lobe, and to be fair, he's right, if we actually bought each one of them their own pride flag we would be broke in no time, like. It was to pick a single struggle, not to grab a handful of them. It said it on the sign “Take one”.
Moving on, you know, hopefully I live long enough to see a system meeting expo-like event, I want to see the posting of the event saying something like "Thank you for coming to our meeting! We had a thousand attendees in this event" and then someone as an outsider just saw like 6 different bodies in front of a Starbucks.

PSA: Full Copyright Transfers are Expensive!!
This is a rehash of a thread I wrote for Twitter that I think is important to share here as well!
some disclaimers:
I don't speak for all artists (but artists, if you didn't know this please look up info about copyright transfer law bc you could be losing out on lots of money)
I'm not a lawyer, this is not legal advice
I can only speak to my knowledge and experience working as a freelance Illustrator & Art Director in the United States. Laws will be different for other countries.
dear anyone who’s looking for art for their projects:
Full copyright transfers (FCT) are expensive. If you want a full copyright transfer (ie to OWN the art), expect to pay AT LEAST $1,000 (artists should be charging at LEAST double their base price)
Why?
A FCT means you now own the art and can do anything you want with it: make and sell merch/prints, edit it, resell the rights to someone else, etc
Most people/projects don’t NEED a FCT. There are other options for commercial licenses that allow artists to retain rights & are cheaper for the client. I am BEGGING indie game designers to understand this and to stop lowballing artists when asking for exclusivity.
If you want exclusivity, you gotta PAY for that— however:
Exclusivity ≠ Full Copyright Transfer
A Limited or Full Exclusivity license prevents the artist from relicensing the work elsewhere, BUT they retain the rights and can use it in their portfolio, for self-promo, and can (depending on your agreement) sell their own prints if they wish.
The reason why FCTs are expensive is because the client can, via merch/prints/future uses, continue to make money off the art with the artist not seeing a cent of that profit. The client can edit it, and the artist can’t do anything, even though their name is still attached.
This is my PSA hoping that the TTRPG space (and beyond; although I only have experience/knowledge about copyright as it pertains to my career in TTRPGs) absorbs it like a sponge.
FCTs are expensive and (usually) not needed for the average project. What you are probably seeking is an [limited] exclusivity commercial license.
for example, if hiring ME (bc i don't speak for all artists), here are some of the options I offer for commercial licenses:
Basic Commercial License: grants permission to use art in print/pdf and in social media promos for the project w credit
Limited Exclusivity: the above + I can't relicense until X amt of time has passed
Full Exclusivity: the above except I can't relicense it at all, but I do retain full rights to the image
Full Copyright Transfer: You own the art and can do whatever you want w/out getting permission from me, even 10 yrs from now. You don't even HAVE to credit me (but you should...for obvious reasons)
I negotiate licenses to make print/merch separately and on top of one of the above licenses, and that is either an upfront/flat fee, upfront fee + royalties, or just royalties.
Also, I do art consultations!! If you are looking to hire artists and don't know what you're doing, you can hire me and I'll go over your project needs and help give you an idea of what your art is going to cost you depending on your needs!
Thank you for reading, and I hope this helps.

I'm sorry for only asking now but when it happened I kinda shut down and avoided the topic and social media because I was too emotional over somebody else's relationship. but I just want to ask you as a polyamorous person, what could have been an amicable reason for Misha and Vicki to have divorce? Maybe I'm idealizing polyamory but the way I understood it, other than having more than 1 consensual relationship, it also meant I could have different kinds of relationships? Like for an example, a couple may have sexual or romantic or queerplatonic partners. So what I'm saying is that even if Misha and Vicki were not in love anymore, they could still stay married as friends who treat each other like family while they are seeing other people? I think I shut down about this topic because it showed me that even with polyamory, if I got into a relationship with someone, I could still be left alone when there's not enough romance and that hurts as an aromantic person who still wants a life partner/committed relationship.
There are a myriad of reasons couples get amicably divorced, even polyamorous couples. I wrote a bit about it (and my own divorce after 24 years of marriage) when we first found out about Misha's separation, here. Please read that, too.
You could choose to get divorced so that one or both of you could marry someone else.
You could choose divorce because one or both of you no longer sees the other as your primary partner.
You could choose divorce because co-habitating as friends and co-parents when you used to share a romantic relationship is too painful.
You could choose divorce because of the legal protections and financial security it offers (all assets and debt are divided according to judicial order, so your creditor can't go after you for the debt your ex owes).
You could simply choose divorce because you are happier living apart than you are together. This is the one that really applied to my husband and I. We're just better people, with more emotional bandwidth and healthier habits, when we live separately. We're kinder to our children and to each other now that we've divorced.
Ending any relationship (or transitioning it from one kind of relationship into another) is always hard. I'm reminded of a few quotes that you may like.
"Who do you think you're going to spend the rest of your life with? You. You are the only one guaranteed to be with you forever. That's why you need to take good care of yourself, and fix yourself when something breaks. You should strive to get along well with yourself. You don't have to love yourself to excess, but you also shouldn't be too hard on yourself either."
And also, "Of course I’ll hurt you. Of course you’ll hurt me. Of course we will hurt each other. But this is the very condition of existence. To become spring, means accepting the risk of winter. To become presence, means accepting the risk of absence." ~Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
And finally, "Happy ending? There are no happy endings. Endings are the saddest part. So just give me a happy middle and a very happy start." ~Shel Silverstein

What is a Creative Common lisence?
Hello everyone! I want to thank the three people who submitted themes to use in #FRobinMonth24
Even if it's only three answers I am so thankful! That really helps a lot because it means I have to pull up way fewer idea.
That being said I asked for inspirational fotos and one answered, that they don't understand creative common licensing.
Which is fine! It is not easy to understand.
So, I decided to write a little text about copyright and license and the usage of certain things online.
Please be aware that I am no lawyer and that copyright might be different from country to country. I also don't guarantee that everything I wrote here is 100% correct!!
Tumblr media
More under the read more (sorry to mobile users).
What is copyright?
As Wikipedia puts it:
A copyright is a type of intellectual property that gives the creator of an original work, or another owner of the right, the exclusive, legally secured right to copy, distribute, adapt, display, and perform a creative work, usually for a limited time. The creative work may be in a literary, artistic, educational, or musical form. Copyright is intended to protect the original expression of an idea in the form of a creative work, but not the idea itself. A copyright is subject to limitations based on public interest considerations, such as the fair use doctrine in the United States.
A copyright is an intellectual property. This paragraph I copied from Wikipedia is the intellectual property of the wikipedia editor who wrote it. They have the copyright to it. But the "Text is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License 4.0;" (CC BY-SA 4.0).
And we'll get into what that means later. (Also I quote it and linked back to the source)
So, Copyright... Oda created One Piece and gave Shūeisha the "copyright" to print it in the Shonen Jump Magazine, basically giving them the right to copy it.
And legally created merch of One Piece is licensed. And the manufacturers bought that license.
Which is why fan-zines that are sold for profit are in a very, very, very grey zone. I don't think ayone within that community is actually allowed to sell those or the merch. Even the charity zines are in a grey area but not as much as the for profit ones. In some countries selling fanart (even commissions) is illegal. The only reason that the big names don't go after those zines is because they are aware that it's good publicity and the "profit" is too small. Also they often don't know about it. Still, be aware of the risks!
On a much lower scale, if you go to any Stock website, you can buy licenses for most of the photos to use. This is mostly used in professional context because you can't just go online, search for a picture, take it and use it in an billion dollar ad campaign or something else. If the creator finds that and gets angry, it can get very expensive.
Or that is the theory, otherwise there wouldn't be so many illegal copies of all kinds of websites like Shein. (Which is the other side of the coin)
And while these rich companies should actually buy the right to use designs, pictures, and other intellectual property, there are a lot of poor artists and they also need pictures and inspiration.
So, what is Creative Commons (CC)?
Creative Commons is the nonprofit behind the open licenses and other legal tools that allow creators to share their work.
Creative Commons is a way for artists to share their work but to add limitations too with a simple code.
The text I had in the form for the submission to the FRobin month was the following.
Please feel free to submit/link a picture prompt (a photo you have taken yourself or which has the correct common license: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/). (CC BY, CC BY-SA, CC BY-NC or CC BY-NC-SA)
Of course a picture of yours that you submit, you allow to be used in a creative way in a fanwork or to be an inspiration for fellow artists.
I also want to encourage people to use the picture prompts within the artwork too. For example in a manipulation, animation, collage.
In theory to do that legally I asked for your own pictures or links to pictures that are shared with the creative common licenses of BY, BY-SA, BY-NC or BY-NC-SA.
There is a total of six common licenses but those four are important for this very case. Why?
CC BY This license enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, so long as attribution is given to the creator. The license allows for commercial use. CC BY includes the following elements: BY: credit must be given to the creator.
-> With other words the medium (song, picture, video, etc...) can be used in any imaginable way. You are even allowed to sell or earn money with what you created, as long as the original creator is credited.
CC BY-SA This license enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, so long as attribution is given to the creator. The license allows for commercial use. If you remix, adapt, or build upon the material, you must license the modified material under identical terms. CC BY-SA includes the following elements: BY: credit must be given to the creator. SA: Adaptations must be shared under the same terms.
-> The medium (song, picture, video, etc...) can be used in any imaginable way. You are even allowed to sell what you created, as long as the original creator is credited.
PLUS the thing you created is also allowed to be used in the same way, so someone else can use it in any imaginable way, is allowed to sell it as long as they credit you.
CC BY-NC This license enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format for noncommercial purposes only, and only so long as attribution is given to the creator. CC BY-NC includes the following elements: BY: credit must be given to the creator. NC: Only noncommercial uses of the work are permitted.
-> The medium (song, picture, video, etc...) can be used in any imaginable way, as long as the original creator is credited.
BUT you are not allowed to sell it or earn money with it!

---
There are two more licenses that don't allow the change of the medium, which is why I decided to not include them.
Now, looking back the Wiki-quote and actually all of Wikipeida is shared with the CC BY-SA license. You are allowed to quote from Wikipedia in any paper you want as long as people are allowed to quote within the same license. With other words if you are now having a discussion about
Now, since this is a fandom blog, I want to take a short look at fanart and fanfiction.
Legality of fanworks
Fanart and fanfiction is most of the time running within the legality of "Fair use" (again Wikipedia) and likewise laws within each country. (So again, check within your own countries texts within the copyright laws.)
Fair use is a doctrine in United States law that permits limited use of copyrighted material without having to first acquire permission from the copyright holder. Fair use is one of the limitations to copyright intended to balance the interests of copyright holders with the public interest in the wider distribution and use of creative works by allowing as a defense to copyright infringement claims certain limited uses that might otherwise be considered infringement.
I can't find right now the exact quote but the overall understand is that as long as you don't sell your fanworks, based on copyrighted works you can always claim fair use if someone tries to sue you.
Which is why Ao3 has it in their TOS that you are not allowed to post advertisement. (Explaination) You are not allowed to link to your Ko-Fi or ask for commissions or donations.
Because then you might not be able to claim fair use and Ao3 as the hosting website can't either.
And again this goes back to the fan-zines, fanarts and also fanfictions that might be sold for profit.
To read more on the topic, Wikipedia's, Legal issues with fan fiction sure is a source but so is fanlore's, Fandom and Profit.
Sorry for the long text. I hope you have a good day!

Here's a quandary I've suddenly found myself in: where do you stand on writers deleting their own works, fanfiction or otherwise? I've had this happen to me on more than one occasion - I go to look for an old favorite and find it's since been deleted from whatever site I read it on.
On the one hand, I'm inclined to think that, "Sure. The author wrote it, it's their call. I don't own the work - I certainly didn't pay for it. It's their decision, even if it's disappointing."
But at the same time I can't help but consider the alternative - if I believe in death of the author (and I do), that an author's work fundamentally isn't solely theirs once it's been published, posted, etc., then it also seems wrong to have a work deleted. Stories aren't the sole property of their creator, after all.
But then I circle back. D'you think there are different obligations between authors and readers and the works being made in fandom space? I know if I had bought a book and the author decided they wanted it back, I would feel pretty comfortable telling them no, given I'd paid for it and whatnot. But that's a different world from fanfic and fandom space generally.
So. You're insightful Clyde, I'm curious as to what you'll have to say here (and to all y'all thinking about it, don't flame me. I haven't decided where I stand here yet - haven't heard a good nail-in-the-coffin argument for or against yet).
Val are you a mind reader now? I’ve been thinking about this exact conundrum the last few days!
(And yeah, as a general disclaimer: no flaming. Not allowed. Any asks of the sort will be deleted on sight and with great satisfaction.)
Honestly, I’m not sure there is a “nail-in-the-coffin argument” for this, just because—as you lay out—there are really good points for keeping works around and really good points for allowing authors to have control over their work, especially when fanworks have no payment/legal obligations attached. In mainstream entertainment, your stories reflect a collaborative effort (publisher, editor, cover artists, etc.) so even if it were possible to delete the physical books out of everyone’s home and library (and we're ignoring the censorship angle for the moment), that’s no longer solely the author’s call, even if they have done the lion’s share of the creative work. Though fanworks can also, obviously, be collaborative, they’re usually not collaborative in the same way (more “This fic idea came about from discord conversations, a couple tumblr posts, and that one headcanon on reddit”) and they certainly don’t have the same monetary, legal, and professional strings attached. I wrote this fic as a hobby in my free time. Don’t I have the right to delete it like I also have the right to tear apart the blankets I knit?
Well yes… but also no? I personally view fanworks as akin to gifts—the academic term for our communities is literally “gift economy”—so if we view it like that, suddenly that discomfort with getting rid of works is more pronounced. If I not only knit a blanket, but then gift it to a friend, it would indeed feel outside of my rights to randomly knock on their door one day and go, “I actually decided I hate that? Please give it back so I can tear it to shreds, thanks :)” That’s so rude! And any real friend would try to talk me out of it, explaining both why they love the blanket and, even if it’s not technically the best in terms of craftsmanship, it holds significant emotional value to them. Save it for that reason alone, at least. Fanworks carry that same meaning—“I don’t care if it’s full of typos, super cliché, and using some outdated, uncomfortable tropes. This story meant so much to me as a teenager and I’ll always love it”—but the difference in medium and relationships means it’s easier to ignore all that. I’m not going up to someone’s house and asking face-to-face to destroy something I gave them (which is awkward as hell. That alone deters us), I’m just pressing a button on my computer. I’m not asking this of a personal friend that is involved in my IRL experiences, I’m (mostly) doing this to online peers I know little, if anything, about. It’s easy to distance ourselves from both the impact of our creative work and the act of getting rid of it while online. On the flip-side though, it’s also easier to demean that work and forget that the author is a real person who put a lot of effort into this creation. If someone didn’t like my knitted blanket I gave them as a gift, they’re unlikely to tell me that. They recognize that it’s impolite and that the act of creating something for them is more important than the construction’s craftsmanship. For fanworks though, with everyone spread around the world and using made up identities, people have fewer filters, happily tearing authors to shreds in the comments, sending anon hate, and the like. The fact that we’re both prefacing this conversation with, “Please don’t flame” emphasizes that. So if I wrote a fic with some iffy tropes, “cringy” dialogue, numerous typos, whatever and enough people decided to drag me for it… I don’t know whether I’d resist the urge to just delete the fic, hopefully ending those interactions. There’s a reason why we’re constantly reminding others to express when they enjoy someone else’s work: the ratio of praise to criticism in fandom (or simply praise to seeming indifference because there was no public reaction at all), is horribly skewed.
So I personally can’t blame anyone for deleting. I’d like to hope that more people realize the importance of keeping fanworks around, that everything you put out there is loved by someone… but I’m well aware that the reality is far more complicated. It’s hard to keep that in mind. It’s hard to keep something around that you personally no longer like. Harder still to keep up a work you might be harassed over, that someone IRL discovered, that you’re disgusted with because you didn’t know better back then… there are lots of reasons why people delete and I ultimately can’t fault them for that. I think the reasons why people delete stem more from problems in fandom culture at large—trolling, legal issues, lack of positive feedback, cancel culture, etc.—than anything the author has or has not personally done, and since such work is meant to be a part of an enjoyable hobby… I can’t rightly tell anyone to shoulder those problems, problems they can’t solve themselves, just for the sake of mine or others’ enjoyment. The reason I’ve been thinking about this lately is because I was discussing Attack on Titan and how much I dislike the source material now, resulting in a very uncomfortable relationship with the fics I wrote a few years back. I’ve personally decided to keep them up and that’s largely because some have received fantastic feedback and I’m aware of how it will hurt those still in the fandom if I take them down. So if a positive experience is the cornerstone of me keeping fics up, I can only assume that negative experiences would likewise been the cornerstone of taking them down. And if getting rid of that fic helps your mental health, or solves a bullying problem, or just makes you happier… that, to me, is always more important than the fic itself.
But, of course, it’s still devastating for everyone who loses the work, which is why my compromise-y answer is to embrace options like AO3’s phenomenal orphaning policy. That’s a fantastic middle ground between saving fanworks and allowing authors to distances themselves from them. I’ve also gotten a lot more proactive about saving the works I want to have around in the future. Regardless of whether we agree with deleting works or not, the reality is we do live in a world where it happens, so best to take action on our own to save what we want to keep around. Though I respect an author’s right to delete, I also respect the reader’s right to maintain access to the work, once published, in whatever way they can. That's probably my real answer here: authors have their rights, but readers have their rights too, so if you decide to publish in the first place, be aware that these rights might, at some point, clash. I download all my favorite fics to Calibre and, when I’m earning more money (lol) I hope to print and bind many for my personal library. I’m also willing to re-share fic if others are looking for them, in order to celebrate the author’s work even if they no longer want anything to do with it. Not fanfiction in this case, but one of my fondest memories was being really into Phantom of the Opera as a kid and wanting, oh so desperately, to read Susan Kay’s Phantom. Problem was, it was out of print at the time, not available at my library, and this was before the age of popping online and finding a used copy. For all intents and purposes, based on my personal situation, this was a case of a book just disappearing from the world. So when an old fandom mom on the message boards I frequented offered to type her copy up chapter by chapter and share it with me, you can only imagine how overjoyed I was. Idk what her own situation was that something like scanning wouldn’t work, but the point is she spent months helping a fandom kid she barely knew simply because a story had resonated with her and she wanted to share it. That shit is powerful!
So if someone wants to delete—if that’s something they need right now—I believe that is, ultimately, their decision… but please try your hardest to remember that the art you put out into the world is having an impact and people will absolutely miss it when it’s gone. Often to the point of doing everything they can to put it back out into the world even if you decide to take it out. Hold onto that feeling. The love you have for your favorite fic, fanart, meta, whatever it is? Someone else has that for your work too. I guarantee it.
So take things down as needed, but for the love of everything keep copies for yourself. You may very well want to give it back to the world someday.

It's ILI! I know I should have choose only one... but I love things like this (or when it is with emojis) and I just can't hold myself! 21 33 38
21- Tell me about another writer(s) who you admire? What is it about them that you admire?
There are so many authors I admire in this fandom!! Like, so many! I’ll make a small list for you:
leoasc - "Summer Lovin’" has got to be one of the best stories I’ve ever read, their other stories are also incredible. "Things Fall Apart" got me hooked already, I love how they write Hyde, it’s really hard to find authors that write him properly.
TeaTimeAllOverTown - The one-shots with missing moments absolutely crushed me! Especially the s8 one. I cried like a baby, so beautiful, but also so sad! This author also has plenty of other amazing stories that make me smile, I really loved their latest work “I Think I Was Blind Before I’ve Met You”. This author has a way with words, I feel a lot whenever I'm reading one of their stories.
isnotme - Another author who should write a book on how to write Steven Hyde. I just love the way she writes im!! Plus, she's Brazilian too and I am legally required to love her, lol. "Tell Me It's Mine" crushed me, and "Playing Pretend" is so cute, I love the storyline!
poetdameron - She doesn’t write for this fandom anymore, but man, her stories are so amazing. "Heart Like Yours" was probably one of the first stories I’ve ever read and I’ll never forget the emotions I’ve felt while reading it. She writes things beautifully.
c00kiefic - I've read every single one of her stories more times than I'd like to admit. The plot of her stories are incredible, and I just love the way she writes Jackie. "Into The Woods" is by far my favorite story of hers, it's perfectly written, it literally has no flaws. "Stages" is also a beautiful story, and I would kill to see how it ends.
MistyMountainHop - Every single one of her stories is beautiful in their own way. I really love the way she writes Jackie and Hyde’s relationship, she manages to write them perfectly. Their dynamic is out of this world, they're literally soulmates, in every single one of her stories.
SparklingSoul - “We’re Not Broken, Just Bent” is probably my favorite story at the moment, and that’s saying a lot, because I’ve read a ton of J/H stories! The first few chapters are honestly heartbreaking, if you're a big Kelso fan you should not read it, and Hyde still acts like the moron he was on s8, but boy oh boy... All I have to say is that reading Hyde's maturing process was amazing. Seriously, what a journey, he grows up so much, and in a realistic way too! Post s8 stories tend to either change Hyde's personality completely (to make up for all the awful stuff he did on s8) or ignore all the crap he did, but this story doesn't. Hyde changes, a lot, but I really like how she wrote the whole process of it. No one becomes a completely different person in such a short span of time, it's a process and Becca wrote it beautifully. My heart aches whenever I remember the story is almost ending, but I also get excited because I know she's planning on writing more stories and I'm here for it!!
Springsteenicious - I don’t think I’ll ever get over how great “The Queen of All My Dreams” was. Also, the fluff he writes is just *chefs kiss*. There’s nothing I love more than a good, fluffy story, and lemme tell you, all of his stories had put a smile on my face.
Nannygirl - J/H and R/K parallels are everything to me!!! There’s nothing I love more than that, seriously!! I’ve read a few of her stories and they were all very worth it! There are so many things I love about them, but man, the J/H + R/K parallels get me every single time.
QueenBookBuff - I love the way she writes her stories, they’re honestly so poetic, sometimes I envy the way she writes Jackie and Hyde’s inner thoughts and their emotions.
A few honorable mentions: ShanghaiLily, HeatherLea75, tanith75, kezztip, and many more I am probably forgetting right now, but it doesn't mean that they're less important, lol.
33 - What’s the biggest compliment you’ve gotten?
Someone once left a comment on RYLH, saying that I made them laugh a lot and forget all about the crappy day they had. It made me so happy!!
Seriously, every single time someone tells me that my stories are important to them and that it made them happy, I get extremely happy. There's nothing I love more than making people smile, I swear, if I wasn't so anxious and awkward, I would've tried a career in comedy because it's something I am legit passionate about.
I also love when people compliment the way I write dialogues. It's something I legitimately love to write, and it's so hard to make the characters sound natural sometimes. I get legit honored.
38 - If you could collab with any other writer on here, who would it be?
The first that came to my mind was @t7s-jessieverse. I still can't get that TSG + Jessieverse crossover off my mind, and I really want to work on it one day!!
I would also love to collab with @springsteenicious, @those70scomics, @zenmastersandfelso, and honestly, anyone who's interested in collabing with me! I love interacting with you guys! I love hearing your opinions on my stories, and I love sharing my opinion about your stories too! It's the reason why I started the prompt game a while back, I truly love hearing your ideas and you guys really inspire me.
I'm too socially awkward and shy to take the first step, but if you ever have a question, a prompt, or just want to hear my thoughts about one of your ideas, please hit me up on private!

ACADEMIC ASKS: 🔮,💸,📝,🔗, 🗑, 🗞,🛠,🔬,💌,📚,📻,🎥, 📖, 🪑, 🔐. On a side note: your blog is tremendously fascinating and inspiring. Take care and stay safe! hope you have a great day and week!
I see we woke up today and chose violence (affectionate). I've answered everything and placed below the cut for the sake of the dash. Wrote it all in one sitting, unedited, so can't speak for the quality, but there are indeed words.
Thank you kindly for both the asks and the compliments; I hope that you too take care, stay safe, and have a wonderful day/week!
Academic Asks
🔮 Share what your ideal classroom setting is! (i.e. size, student interaction level, mood/aesthetics etc.)
🔮has been answered here.
💸 Private or Public school?
Public. The only reason I would go to a private school is if they paid me to go there and I wanted to work with a specific professor. Private schools tend to have exorbitant price hikes for no reason.
📝 Have you ever cheated on an assignment or a test? If you did, how and did you get caught?
I’ll come clean: yes (sort of), I have and no, I’ve not gotten caught. The times where I have skirted “legality” are the times where I’ve felt constrained by, well, time. There have been several, and I do mean several, classes where I’ve passed by the skin of my teeth due to difficultly understanding the material. And often times, passing a class means getting assignments in at their due dates.
I do tend to prefer not cheating but to be honest, that’s less due to academic illegality than it is to a personal sense of integrity. The way I see it, my primary motivation is to learn the material. The time constraints of classes are an external force; it absolutely will not make a difference to my future whether I learn a concept now or two days from now, but it will make a difference to my grade and my grades dictate whether or not I can continue on the path of learning. So, putting two and two together, I needed a work around. Most of the time that meant office hours, some of the time that meant poaching the process of answers off a friend, slapping what I’ve got onto a document, turning it in, and taking the weekend to figure out the part I was stuck on. (Can you tell I tend to prefer self-learning?)
Have never cheated on an exam. Don’t ever intend to.
🔗 Can you explain your favorite teaching or studying method?
🔗 has been answered here.
🗑 Mind sharing your lowest grade? Do you think it was fair and deserved? How’d you handle it?
I don’t actually remember my lowest grade but I do remember getting a 15/100 on an exam once. The class average was a 70. It was not, as one might say, good. Think it was graded fine; I tend not to bother to fight grades to be honest. If I feel that I know and understand the material, that’s good enough for me. I’ve gotten points off on little technicalities, or professor quirks of grading and I’ve never cared about that. This particular exam however, I very much did not know the material, so office hours and study habit changes it was.
🗞 Any crazy or interesting class stories?
Had a professor show up 30 minutes into a 90 minute class once - they may or may not have scheduled a meeting to coincide with the class. Also, any of my lab/hands-on-based systems aero courses have been an absolute riot, but can’t say that I could pick a favorite from the group! Lots of late nights and crazy designs and caffeine fueled builds.
🛠 If there was anything you could change about your education system in one night, what would it be?
(Going to answer this building exclusively off my personal experience here because I’ve not done enough actual research into the topic.)
I’d be interested in altering it from something aggressively hierarchical to something more collaborative in nature. The education system where I live tends to be incredibly structured in both academic pathway and power flow; I think that flexibility in the system would allow for students to create paths that suit them individually, and bridge the gap between professor and student. As I transitioned into grad school, and even just as an upperclassman undergrad, I was lucky enough to begin learning from professor through collaborative processes rather than strict lectures. Cannot overstate how helpful things like this were; opportunities where knowledge was simultaneously taught and utilized allowed previously obscure concepts come alive and actually mean something. Additionally, the power dynamic (despite being ever present) shifted into one more collaborative than an authoritarian, though I do think this is more due to that particular professors I worked with.
Some accountability would also be nice - students need to have a way to hold their administrations accountable for their actions, and sometimes the existing structure to do so feels like it holds a false bottom.
🔬 Stem or Arts?
Yes.
(Can one truly exist without the other?)
💌 Do you have a school crush or rival? Tell me about them...
Hardly; don’t care enough to have a rival and don’t notice enough to have a crush. As it turns out, threats and flirts both just do not register with me at all. I genuinely do not notice. Wonder what things would be like if I did.
📚 What’s a class you’ve taken just for the sake of taking it, if any?
Business negotiation. Needed one more credit in my term, so I took a half-semester class. Incredibly fun, and a welcome change of pace from the rotation of math and physics and engineering and the like. Those skills have also come in handy many a time, so it was a fortunate impulsive class selection.
📻 Will you share your studying tunes?
Study music tends to fluctuated based off what I feel like listening to in that particular moment, but you can find my Spotify here. Nostalgia’s led me to discover Guo Yue’s White Jade album, so that’s what I’ve been listening to lately, but last week was almost entirely Andrew Bird’s Pulaski at Night so… it fluctuates.
🎥 Watch any studyblrs on youtube? If not, how about general academic or educational youtubers?
I consume absolutely zero studyblr/gram related content outside of Tumblr and nearly zero on Instagram. Am however fond of video essays - Sideways is a classic but I’ve recently been watching a bunch of Jacob Geller analyses despite not being a gamer in any sense of the word. Also discovered CJ the X last month which has been incredible fun; new favorite channel I think.
📖 Last book you read for fun?
The Silmarillion my beloved <3
🪑 Front, middle or back of the classroom?
Started out as a front of the classroom person. Got called on too many times. Didn’t like that. Now tend to settle near the sides or back (depending on how late I am.)
🔐 After you graduate, what’s next?
Bold of you to assume I will ever leave the *warm* embrace of academia. The plan is to simply submit myself to the flames of hell that is a PhD and see if and when I emerge. I’m going to get the title of Dr. or die trying.

Thanks so much and I hope you are having a great day! XOXO.
Bless you Bexxx you absolute inspiration, you!
Truth be told, I've been sitting on this question since you sent it trying to really parse out what I'm most proud of. And I think part of the issue is that at different stages of my life (and the different sort of fics focused on in them) each have different answers. Probably because my goals and sense of accomplishment in those goals for my fics and my satisfaction with my writing continuously evolves.
To give a very basic bitch answer (and presently not counting my multitude of fics on indefinite hiatus,) I will absolutely point to the Batman: the Animated Series fanfic I wrote when I was 19. Please understand, by my own standards of writing today, that fic does make me wince for a vast number of reasons. However, I owe it a lot.
To give you the necessary background information, here's the scope: I hadn't written for 5 years prior. I started writing fanfic when I was 11, started sharing it when I was 12, and started really posting regularly to FFNet shortly before I turned 13. And I was a writing machine and I was happy doing my thing and [if I do say so myself] I wasn't half-bad at writing for my age. Sometime around Christmas after I'd turned 14, I started getting harassed on FFNet. Flaming comments on every story, tearing down my ideas, my headcanons, my plots, my ships, my OCs, and of course, me. I was told over and over that I had my head up my ass for thinking I was hot shit and writing good for a baby teen. And the real punch in the gut to me was when I tried to bring it up to my friends; rather than telling me not to listen to the asshole reviewers and build me back up, my best friend at the time told me "yeah they kind of have a point, your writing is boring. Just delete your FFNet, and we'll be a team, I'LL write since I'm better at it and you draw it as comics since that's what you're good at."
When I tell you that left me broken and devastated and sure my writing and my stories were worthless, I'm not exaggerating. My legal guardians were also not understanding or supportive and pushed me to delete my FFNet account. (You can't actually delete those, but I was able to delete all the stories I had uploaded, which was essentially about the same.) So for five years I didn't write. Not to say I didn't have ideas, but between what had happened and the ensuing abuse from that toxic best friend, (as well as the separate abuse from my guardians, both of which kept getting worse,) I felt like I shouldn't write. My stories had no meaning but pointless indulgence for me and me alone, and the lack of anyone trying to encourage me or help defend me against any of the assholes on FFNet drove the point home. It killed me not to be writing but I couldn't bear the weight that came with the thought of trying again.
Fast-forward, I'm staying at a relative's for a while to nanny their children (NOT my choice, legal guardians forced me into it,) and my 19th birthday hits. Nobody remembers except my biological mother, who mailed me the first DVD box set for Batman: the Animated Series because she'd found it and remembered how much I loved the series as a child. I was ecstatic to revisit the show, let alone OWN a quarter of it, so I binged it when I could. Little by little a fic idea formed, and before long I started typing it up on a crappy old laptop said relatives let me use. (I think being in a different environment and coming to the realization I had finally started getting away from a toxic, abusive friendship helped spur that.) On a whim, I uploaded it to FFNet and DeviantArt. By the third chapter, I finally gotten a comment from someone who would go on to become one of my best friends. The fic had a lot of starts and stops, and between chapters 6 and 12 the pacing is very wonky because I realized the story I'd originally wanted to write wasn't going to be this at all! I'd planned a 17-chapter tragedy/cautionary tale with an unrequited darkship; but between getting positive feedback, enthusiastic readers who became wonderful friends, and my ideas changing drastically as I wrote, it became a completely different story 25 chapters- and an epilogue-long. It's a slightly trashy and wholly self-indulgent little mess of a fic, but it's mine. I made it, I wrote and completed it, I own it in all its flaws and strengths, and it gave me both a fantastic community of supportive readers and enthusiastic friends that reassured me they love my writing...and it gave me back my own sense of worth as a writer as it reignited that need to write.
So yeah, it's a mess. But I'm proud of that mess and what it gave back to me. And for something I wrote...gosh, it's 13 years ago now, it's still not half-bad.
Presently, I think I'm undergoing another creative shift or growth in my writing style. I'm pretty sure it's something to do with both my pacing and narrative voice that's changing, but it's not frustrating, just different. And I'm pretty proud of everything that I've written so far and uploaded under my CyanideLatte pseud on AO3 (aka my most current pseud since my love for horror reignited in Halloween of 2019, and the username I've been most happy with in my life,) but I do have some projections about which projects I have planned that I will be the most proud of in the future!
Phew! 😅 Sorry this got so long-winded, but I do appreciate this question so much! You really got me to think about this and that is a damn plus!

Sorry if this sent twice, tumblr messed up, but I was basically asking if you think the good girls writers are intentionally trying to push boundaries and step into racist territories (they have malicious intent) or do you think it's more down to malicious intent? I'm asking mostly because I love your wording and how you explore things. I know you can't predit what others think but you're a creative and work in creative fields so I thought you might have more of an insight (or just a feeling)
It didn’t send twice, anon, so thank you for re-sending it (and for your kind words!) :-)
It’s hard for me to comment on what the show does or doesn’t do deliberately because the creative team does so little press, but I wouldn’t say that they do anything deliberately malicious, no, and I don’t think that the fact that the show has fallen into racist traps and tropes has been done intentionally either, rather I think it’s indicative of a thoughtlessness or perhaps general ignorance around these topics in the writers’ room.
This got a little long, so I’m putting it behind a cut to save your timelines!
While I’ve worked as a writer in lots of different capacities, I’ve only been formally in a TV writers’ room for one show, and even in that, I was only a writer attachment (so basically the person who collates script notes and transcribes story discussion and ideas). It was also an extremely different show given it was only a two-episode miniseries, and it was a biographical one based on somebody’s real life. In that though, what I learnt is that writers’ rooms are intense! Everyone’s on really strict creative deadlines with no room to move, so for the couple (or several) months that you’re in (and out of) one, writers are so deeply embedded in the story that they often can’t see the wood for the trees.
They’re usually not focused on optics, or even tropes or stereotypes (unless there’s a voice in the room who brings it up) - they’re focused intently on character and how to get that character from Point A to Point B.
The writers’ room that I was in was...strange, haha. There were only two writers, plus the producer, the director and me, and a lot of it was spent trying to understand the actions of this real life person (who was frequently extremely hard to understand), looking through video footage, old interviews, trying to bring him to life in a way that felt authentic. The show was also plagued though with legal issues as the person the show was about was still alive, and across the 10 weeks of the writing (of which there were only four days of formal writers’ rooms), he started by trying to tank the show, and then changed his mind, came on board, but demanded his life essentially be sanitised (i.e. take out all the criminal activity, adultery and anything that implied he was unpatriotic aka the only reasons people would want to watch the show, haha).
By the end of it, the show was so constrained creatively, that both the writers were very unhappy and the show that came out is, frankly, not very good.
Good Girls obviously doesn’t have a number of those problems, haha, but I do think it’s likely that how they depict race hasn’t been at the forefront of the show’s mind in the writers’ room. This is pure speculation, but I think the one thing they’re thinking of over and over again is Beth, Ruby and Annie, and particularly the themes of female autonomy, and what women are prepared to do for their loved ones, and I think ideas that sound good in the very insular space of the writers’ room sometimes don’t translate when they actually play out.
Beth shooting Rio in 2.13 is a good example of this.
In the writers’ room, they would likely be fixated on Beth, and that theme, and on paper, y’know, I get it as a creative choice (again, just to clarify, I don’t like it! But I do get it!) In that insular bubble of the writer’s room, I understand the excitement of having Beth realise her power in finally committing the one act she’d been pressured to do all season. And to do it to the person who was both the one pressuring her to do it, and the person who’d empowered her to do it in the first place! What a dark twist on her arc!
That story then goes to a director who signs up and a team that’s either driven by the same focus and tunnel vision, or just there for a paycheque, which means sometimes it can take an episode being launched out of the safety of the nest for people to realise that it’s wrong.
Because out of that nest, that 2.13 doesn’t play as a shocking, full circle moment for Beth. Rather, it meets an audience who brings to it different context, knowledge, history, socialisation, and so it plays as what it actually is, which is a white woman shooting a brown man on screen. A brown man who happened to be her ex lover. A brown man who’s suffering the camera lingers on. (It’s further not helped by the bad pacing of the episode, and murky motivations generally, but that’s neither here nor there for this particular point).
The process of a story finding any audience can be tricky, because for all the wonderful things it can do, it can also expose weaknesses in storytelling, inherent bias in the writing (particularly as it relates to racism and misogyny), writing shortcuts and laziness that perhaps even the writer didn’t realise they were doing as they wrote it.
Which brings me to the point of the individual writer, which I think is a particularly pertinent one with this show in particular.
The system of writers’ rooms is that everyone’s together, workshopping, talking, sharing, building the story, then episodes get assigned to different writers, and those episodes get taken away and written, and then brought back. In this sense, TV is extremely collaborative, but also typically the buck stops with the individual writer.
I think this has, historically, been a part of Good Girls’ problem too, because ultimately I think that the writers who do think consciously about things like race write it into the show, while the writers who don’t, well, don’t.
I think there are two examples of this.
Firstly is Stan and Turner’s conversation about being black men in America in 2.06, which was an episode that was written by Des Moran, a black man, who talked briefly about the significance of getting to write that scene on his Instagram.
The other example is the Duke University interview with Retta, Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs, where they talked about the fact that one of the writers had experienced herself what Ruby and Stan had about being invisible while shopping, and thus written it into her s3 episode.
In other words, I think the way the show approaches race comes down to the individual writer, which has the effect of being sort of transient and unfortunately not cohesive. It means it can sometimes be harmful and outright racist, and it can sometimes be compelling and thoughtful and nuanced. It depends on the conversations that were had in the writers’ room, and it depends on the person writing the episode.
I will say though that Good Girls does seem to have made a huge push to diversify their writer’s room. They had no episodes at all written by women of colour in s1, whereas half of s3 was written by women of colour. (I actually did a handy breakdown of this here if you’re interested!) They also in s3 hired a black woman, Ester Lou Weithers, as an overall story editor for the season too. Those are both pretty loud actions in terms of creating space for different voices behind the scenes, and I hope it translates more on screen in future!
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Well then.
I recently discovered this "Gem" of an article and oh boy. This is next level insane conspiracy. *The article in question*
https://reclaimthenet.org/no-pixels-for-fascists/
Now the article is not promoting the context in it so much as covering it as a horror story. And at first I believe it to be satire...... But sadly it is not. First if all. Censorship is BAD. Many people will always argue with this because, "hate speech" or, "violent speech" but fact it, the people arguing for censorship so it because they believe that nothing they can or will ever say will be censored. Fun fact mind you. The term, "useful idiot" plays a big part here. See, people in powerful places don't ACTUALLY care about you or your views. They care about power. Consider for a moment why EA is backing this campaign. EA is a game publishing company that has been in hot water MANY times over the past several years. Up to and including incidents like putting out a game that was supposed to have some level of historical accuracy, but with "their version of history". Then there was the loot boxes controversy that literally started a legal war against predatory loot boxes in games, of which EA is literally the worst offender.
Now with all of this in mind realize something VERY specific. Many people that were "right wing" were very much not happy about the "our version of history" crap because it was not how the franchise had been treated prior. ""Left wing" people were mostly against the whole predatory loot boxes thing. Grant you yes, there was a lot of cross over, but fundamentally these were split issues. Now consider for a moment what some people consider to be fascist in modern culture. It's pretty broad. And it has been escaping it's proper meaning by a long shot. But with all of this said, something people neglect to realize is that totalitarianism, authoritarianism, and fascism are all basically the same. And all involve one fundamental truth. Absolute Control.........by ANY means necessary. Censorship is authoritarian by nature. Because when you can't speak, you can't spread ideas. Imagine for a moment Progressives, you finally get free speech removed. FINALLY these "right wing Nazis" can't spread their hate messages any more out of fear of fines, jail, or imprisonment. What doth the governing bodies do next? Maybe they ban protests. Maybe they don't ACTUALLY like gay people and ban pride parades or maybe remove gay marriage. And you think to yourself, "THEY CAN'T DO THAT! THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED T-". Yes they are. You literally handed them the keys and papers to the car....... And handed over your spares while you were at it. Meaning it's theirs now. They don't have to answer to you any more.
And that's the point. You THINK you can just take away people's ability to speak because you don't agree with them, but who's speech do you think they come for next? The people who helped put them in power. The people that handed them the keys. WHY?! You might ask? Because at that point, YOU are the biggest threat to them. You are the loud, violent, useful idiots that wished for absolute control over speech to adhere to your ,"moral compass". News flash. That power? Is all encompassing. And does not just go away when someone you won't like takes power. What's more, you actually TRUST many of the people in power at face value as if they actually care about you. They don't! You, to them, are only a means to an end. And think about it really. The biggest road blocks to freedom right now are mostly all people that label themselves, either left wing, or progressives. Any idea why you can't see your own folly? Because you have too much trust in people that have no real moral compass. Consider for a moment what you've been advocating for (not all of you).
Disarming the general public (2A)
Banning certain types of speech (1A)
Give full control of healthcare to the government (which they can then deny you of)
Give full control of production rights (to the people) by proxy also the government
You are literally advocating for the government to have absolute authority over everything. And it's funny too. They've got you believing that, "The rightous path to end *fascism*, patriarchy, racism, and bigotry,-" is to give them the power to make all of that much MUCH worse. What happens when a progressive get into office that is SO progressive, they legalize pedophilia? Maybe beastiality? Guess who speech gets removed next? Everyone against those ideas since one, you no longer HAVE the first amendment to protect you, nor a second to defend yourself. Then after that person, an extremist right wing LITERAL Nazi gets put in power? Guess what? Racism and bigotry are in full swing now. Welcome back to the 1800's. And guess what you can do about it? Absolutely nothing. And you know who's to thank for that? You are.
The above article also goes on to mention this, which...... Is basically insane-
Tumblr media
Fact is, contrary to MOST news sources. GG was not a hate movement. The FBI confirmed as much. And calling "Trump and his associates" gamers? They can't even operate FB half the time. Their only experience with gaming is probably Pac Man. Also the article goes on to say "right wing people" are the problem. No they are not. Because of the text I wrote prior to this. Because they SEE the trap and they are the only ones fighting to keep us free. Them and a hand full of centrists and not insane leftists. Also, it bares noting that "right wing" and "left wing" are not the same in the US as they are in other places, but a lot of people don't fully grasp that. People still have this view of "the right" as hillbilly racists, who shoot people because they can, and wish death upon "the gays". But that's a far cry from the bulk of the right in modern days. Because consider for a moment if the left wing was identified by their extreme? Full government control, make people be gay by force, legalize all age dating/sexual acts, let everyone love everyone *most specifically animals*, and killing/imprisoning all "non progressives". That's your fringes.
The reason so many people literally can't open their eyes is because they honestly can't think for themselves. They listen to "news" media to get all their info, even though that info is often doctored to be as woke and untrue as possible. Do you know why? Because activist types of the progressive fringes are the loudest and most entitled of us all. Salon, Kotaku, IGN, Vice, BuzzFeed, Feminist Frequency, Washington Post, The New York Times, The Guardian, CNN etc. They ALL get their news stories from one another. And they are all activists who want to push a narrative. They have no reason to be honest. The more angry you get reading their stuff, the more you will come back to read their stuff. Basically a loop of hate. Because without it, they'd go out of business. They NEED you to click on, share, and parrot their stories. I mean consider this for a sec. When GG got big, who was it that would have taken the hardest hit from the information found out? Games journalists. Do you know why mainstream news outlets came to their rescue? To paint gamers as all being racist, sexist, bigots? Because if it had come out and gotten attention beyond the gaming sphere that games media was being dishonest and unethical in its practices, how long do you think it would have been until we started to consider the same about mainstream journalism. They KNEW this was bad for them. But they also knew they had dedicated fan bases that would spread their propaganda for them. And they used that. They used that to pin down a few bad actors (the fringe people latching into the coat tails of the movement) to paint the entire movement as hateful. And not only did they succeed in spreading those lies. Now any time they need to make people angry again, or they need something to hide behind, the bring up GG *GamerGate*. Because the article writes itself. And they know by talking about it, they can deflect all forms of criticism. Journalist has sexual assault allegations against them? It's just GG trying to hurt progressives. Black Face? Just a GG lie! They threatened me/my family. It's the perfect shield. So much so, even Hollywood had taken on the mantra. But they took it up a notch to just say, "my movie did bad because sexist man babies". And they all do it. They don't actually CARE about sexism or whatever, but they KNOW, even the mention of "those types" is basically a battle cry to misinformed people that only wish to form a hate mob and enact "justice" on these "bigots". Open your eyes. You're a tool for the rich and powerful and you can't even see it.

Only you.
Fandom: Sherlock Holmes
Pairing: Mycroft x reader
Words: 1962
A/N: This was a request with a prompt from my new prompt list (“It was you. The whole time only you.”) It is my first time writing Mycroft and I hope it is okay the way I've wrote it. I hope you enjoy reading it. ♡♡
PS: Requests are open guys. :)
It is a rainy day at the beach. You are new in this town and there are no children which want to play with you. Most of the time you would be here building sandcastles.
A boy stands in front of you, looking down at your building. “Can I play with you?” You nod but still being curious about him. “My name is Mycroft. And yours?”
“Y/n"
“Okay y/n, should I go and collect some shells for the castle?”
“Let’s collect them together.”, the both of you stand up and begin to walk down the beach. The wind is cold and the sky is dangerously grey. Slowly you started talking with Mycroft and you had a lot of fun. “Who lives in your castle? The queen?”
“No, she already has one. That’s my castle.” Mycroft lays his shells in your tiny hands and rubs the sand of his knees. “Can I live there too?” A smile appears on your face. There aren't a lot of children which try to play with you, the reason is you seem to be strange to them. All the time you play alone, but now having someone, who wants to spend time with you, fills you with joy.
Since this day you've been friends with Mycroft. Together you were able to hate other people and to judge them. But time changed, after school Mycroft began to work in London and you moved away to study. Not to forget the last time you've met which went awfully wrong.
“Miss y/l/n, I need to see you.”, your boss ain't a nice person, you hate him and if you could you would resign from this job, unfortunately you need the money.
Sitting in front of him makes you uncomfortable, his dirty eyes pierces you, his yellow smile causes nausea. “So Miss y/l/n, we need you to go to London for a meeting. We got a new client and I need someone who can represent this company in the best way. You aren't my first choice, I wanted Miss Davis to go but she thought it would be a great time to give birth to her baby.” You can tell that he's angry. He ain't angry because I have to go, you know that, it’s because there is one less mare in his stable.
“I'd go myself but I have to take care of another client. So you have to go. Tomorrow is the meeting.”
“But I'm not prepared, I don’t know the client, I don’t know the case, nothing.”
“Believe me, you know the client, he will tell you about this case.” You don’t have a choice, a nod is all your boss gets before you leave his office.
You sit in a warm car while the rain runs down the window. It’s a typical day in London and you enjoy this because this city has its own charm. The last time you were here was some years ago. Mycroft invited you to see his new workplace, while you weren't sure if this is legal Mycroft gave you a private tour of the whole building. “Mycroft? I’m not sure if this is allowed.” All you were able to hear was a laughter and a click when he opened another door with his new, own keys. “I don’t know since when you care about rules..”
“I still don’t care about rules but Mycroft, this is the fucking Buckingham palace, you can lose your job!”
“Not if no one finds out.” He opened a large door and behind it was a balcony. You stepped out, enjoying the sight over the large estate in front of you. The night was cold, a little bit windy, but beautiful. While you looked into the sky Mycroft stepped next to you. “I can't believe how beautiful this is. It's strange to imagine you working here. Well... no, it suits you.”
A smile appeared on Mycrofts face. “Thank you.” He hasn't talked that much the last few days, that made you uncomfortable. There was a special connection between the two of you, he looked differently at you, talked softer and his hands searched for more contact than usually. You liked it, since a very long time you felt some kind of love for him, of course Mycroft knew that. Not only because of his brilliant mind, Sherlock mentioned it every time you've visited them at home, which made you mad. But Mycroft never lost a word about it, so it was a suspicious feeling knowing, that he tried to come closer to you now. “Y/n, there is something I need to tell you. But I don’t know how and it’s not the right time...”
“It’s okay Mycroft. I feel the same.” Finally, you thought, it’s going to happen.
“I know. Y/n, the thing is.. this is my work now. I don’t know what will happen in future, what kind of people I will meet or problems. I don’t know how to handle this with you on my side.” You felt like a train hit your stomach. “So what do you mean?”
Mycroft sighted while he tried to avoid eye contact. “I guess we will have less contact in the future, I need to concentrate on my work and on Sherlock.” Tears filled your eyes, suddenly the cold air bothered you, everything bothered you, even Mycroft. “So you brought me to this beautiful place to tell me that you have feelings for me but don’t want to spend time with me in the future. It’s like a cut to get away from me?!”
“Y/n.. no, please let me explain-"
“No this is egoistic Mycroft Holmes. I know you have problems with feelings, I know that you don’t know how to handle them sometimes but this is just huge crap.” The tears began to run down your cheeks and Mycroft didn't know what to do. “Escort me out. Now.” He looked down at his feet, nodded and showed you the way outside. None of you talked while you walked through the building. At the gate Mycroft tried to talk to you. “Don't go just like that.”
“You want me to go!”
“No.. yes.. but not like that. Not after all this time.” His voice was shaking, he tried to reach for your hand but you took it away. “Goodbye Mycroft Holmes.”
“Goodbye...”
Tumblr media
This memory causes you to feel sad. All the years your thoughts were by Mycroft, what he's doing and how. You miss him but there was no way to get in contact with him again. Until now..., the heat rises in your head, your palms begin to sweat. Mycroft is this important client and as soon as it is clear to you the door of the car opens and you have to go out. Two huge men are waiting for but your thoughts are only about Mycroft. “Miss y/l/n? Please come with us, your new client waits inside.” You can’t remember walking these hallways with Mycroft but perhaps you are just to excited to see him. One man knocks at the door and a silent “Come in" could be heard. You enter the room and there he sits.
Tumblr media
A little bit older than the years before but also greater just like you've imagined him all the years. His eyes meet yours and his hard expression gets soft, for a couple of seconds he doesn't know what to say. “You can go now, thank you.”, the men get out of the room and now it’s just the two of you. “Y/n...”
“You look good.”
Mycroft clears his throat. “Yes well.. uhm. Sherlock. He is in trouble.” It is a surprise to you, not that Sherlock is in trouble but that he needs help is something new to you. The both of you talk about the case just like you’ve never met before but your looks at each other were full of feelings. “I will stay in London until this problem is solved.”
“Thank you. Do you got a hotel?”
“Yes.”
“Thank you.” Silence. You just look at each other, feeling the tension in the air. “So, you are my client?”
“Great.”
Silent. Again. You are angry about the fact that Mycroft behaves like you two don't share a past. “Why me?”
“Sorry?”
“Why did you have to get me here to solve this problem. After all these years of silent I have to come here to help Sherlock?”
“What do you want? Talk about the years which have passed?”
You smiled ironically. “Perhaps?! We’ve been friends for a long time, that’s what people do when they see each other again after a long time!”
“Okay, what do you want to hear?” All you want to hear is that he missed you, that he is sorry. “You know Mycroft, I’ve thought a lot about this moment. How we will meet again, why and how it will end.-“
“So did I.”
“To be honest, I don't know how to handle it. You seem so strange but at the same time so familiar. I have missed you so much but also I've hated you. I don’t know anything about your life right now. Do you have a wife? Do you have children?”
“What do you think?”
“I don't know! I guess I want you to be happy. And that’s it.” Mycrofts expression don't reveal anything, this man still is a huge secret to you. “Is there somebody in your life?” You shake your head and look down at the desk. Mycroft stands up from his chair, walks to the window while his hands are behind his back. “This evening a couple of years ago didn't went as I wanted it to. I loved you and this new job and all the problems and dangers made me fear for you safety. I didn't wanted you to get in trouble or danger because of me. I wanted you to be save, maybe it was the wrong way to push you away so you would be save.”
“It was.”
Mycroft turns to you. “I know.” He steps away from the window towards you, your stomach is filled with butterflies and your cheeks get rosy because of the heat in your head. “I wish I could turn back time so we could be together and I could take care for you. There ain't anybody in my life, it was you. The whole time only you. I never was able to escape from my love for you and maybe it was also wrong to get in touch with you like that but I needed to see you again, even if it would be the last time.”
“Do you want it to be the last time?”
“My good y/n of course not. But I could imagine that you want it to be and I would understand this.”
“I don’t want it.” Mycroft reaches for your hand, looks in your eyes and smiles. “May I can have the permission to kiss you?” You nod and the soft feeling of his lips appears on yours. It feels like a dream after all these years. You interrupt the kiss after a couple of seconds. “You arranged this, don't you? It isn't a coincidence that I have to solve a problem for Sherlock.”
“There ain’t no problem to solve.”
“Mycroft!”
“How was I supposed to get you here? Calling you after all these years? Showing up at your door?”
“You know where I live?”
“Of course. I needed to know that you are safe. I didn't spy you but I knew your problems and some of them I've solved for you.” You don’t want to know how or why, all that matters is Mycroft. There will be time to argue with him about that but it ain't the right time.

Meet: Laura Pittenger
Tumblr media
LAURA PITTENGER is a NYC-based writer and director, and a Catholic Artist Connection board member. (www.laurapittenger.com)
CATHOLIC ARTIST CONNECTION (CAC): What brought you to NYC, and where did you come from?
LAURA PITTENGER (LP): I graduated from Ball State University (go Cards) in 2012 with a degree in theatre production and moved here almost immediately from Fort Wayne, Indiana. I have known I wanted to live in New York City since a high school drama club trip. Living here has shattered my illusions about what it would be like, but I think in some ways the reality is better than the fantasy. I never knew New York was so diverse and fascinating outside Manhattan, but I've really fallen in love with the entire East Coast at this point.
CAC: How do understand your vocation as a Catholic artist? Do you call yourself a Catholic artist?
LP: In mixed company, I call myself a theater artist, or a Catholic, but not often both. When I get to introduce myself as such, it is a real joy, because that’s a much more complete picture of who I am. I think it's a label that is often maligned and misunderstood, but I don't make it a personal mission to correct every single person's presumptions about what it means. I try to let my work speak for itself. I couldn't have the ideas I do about life and being human if I weren't a Catholic, and it shines through everything I create, whether I like it or not. (I think that's the Holy Spirit. Right?)
CAC: Where have you found support in the Church for your vocation as an artist?
LP: Being on the board of Catholic Artist Connection, while it has been a lot of work, has also been so faith-building and rewarding and communal. Because I have not often found the support I need as a Catholic artist in the church proper - aside from individual priests and friends, who have been lifesavers - I want to make it my mission to be that open door for other Catholic artists. This is something I believe the laity can do and can do well.
CAC: Where have you found support among your fellow artists for your Catholic faith?
LP: It really depends. Some people can see that the theater is a place where diverse creatures gather to present and grapple with interesting questions, and that gives them the curiosity to explore what it means to be a Catholic during this strange period of history. Some people aren't yet in that frame of mind, and that's okay. If I can be Christ to them, that's what I care about, and that's in my power to do. I'm actually embarking on a process with Project Y Theatre right now where I'm going to be doing a short adaptation of a piece by Hrotsvitha of Gandershaim, a Catholic religious sister who wrote plays in the 10th century, of all things.
CAC: How can the Church be more welcoming to artists?
LP: By supporting groups like the Catholic Artist Connection!
CAC: How can the artistic world be more welcoming to artists of faith?
LP: Ask more questions about faith instead of relying on pat and easy answers. Let religion appear onstage as more than a punchline or punching bag. Let's have stories about religious persons struggling, yes, but let's also have stories about them thriving in religious communities. We could all benefit from that kind of open-mindedness.
CAC: Where in NYC do you regularly find spiritual fulfillment? Do you recommend any particular parishes?
LP: I attend a parish in Queens - reach out to me directly if you want more specifics. Otherwise, in Manhattan, I'll recommend a few parishes that stand out:
St. Francis of Assisi is fantastic, very welcoming, diverse community, and caters to so many marginalized people.
If you want spectacle and the Seat of Everything in NYC, St. Patrick's Cathedral.
I have a special place in my heart for the Dominicans over at St. Vincent Ferrer, it was one of the first churches I attended regularly in the city. You might see a few familiar faces at the noon mass, and sometimes the Sisters of Life go there.
If you want to go to an 11pm mass in Times Square, check out the The Actor's Chapel/St. Malachy's. It's quite something. They have actors and singers galore so the liturgy is pretty beautiful.
St. Ignatius Loyola is a BEAUTIFUL Jesuit parish on Park Avenue, and the music is out of this world good.
CAC: Where in NYC do you regularly find artistic fulfillment?
LP: I have done a lot of work with Turn to Flesh Productions with my good friend Emily C. A. Snyder. I've worked with a lot of companies, some of which have moved away or developed into other companies - such is the nature of the theater!
To get inspired, I visit new places in the city. There are always new places to go. There are still neighborhoods I've never even set foot in and I've been here since 2012.
I read about 50 books a year on average. You have to keep your mind moving so it doesn't get stagnant. And there are a lot of independent used bookstores in the city that you should DEFINITELY support. The Strand is an institution. And Heaven help us, when we get the Drama Bookshop back, you should support them, too.
I also took a class recently with the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research when they had one on "Bible as Literature." Take any class that you can afford. Sign up for Barnes and Noble alerts, they always have famous people come to read from their books in Union Square.
CAC: What is your daily spiritual practice?
LP: I pray throughout the day. My prayer life is extremely simple, basic, and conversational. I spent a long time dealing with anxiety and depression, and I have found it best to just live in the silence with God. I expect a lot of myself by nature, and so my biggest challenge has been learning when to ease off and just know that I am loved by God. I find a lot of comfort in spiritual reading. Read Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke.
I'm self-conscious of the fact that it seems like I often do the bare minimum of what is expected of me as a Catholic, but my heart is at peace - most of the time. It helps to find a spiritual director or regular confessor who knows you well and can guide you when you're feeling lost, and it was important to me when I moved here that I find one quickly. He's busy, but he'll make time.
CAC: What is your daily artistic practice?
LP: When I was writing my novel I wrote several times a week, and it was a real pleasure. It's good sometimes to work on creative projects that are simply for fun, because it's easy to lose sight of your art as anything but hard work. But, in general, I try to be really protective of my time and energy. I wouldn't say I have a daily practice, but I am trying to get better at doing at least one creative thing a day, even if it's just composing funny dumb tweets.
CAC: Describe a recent day in which you were most completely living out your vocation as an artist. What happened, and what brought you the most joy?
LP: A collective of playwrights including myself have been meeting regularly with the New Sanctuary Coalition at St. Francis Xavier Church in order to write plays based off the interviews the NSC does with immigrants living in the city. It’s been a salve to the soul to find a way to share those stories with the world, they are urgent stories for our times.
CAC: You actually live in NYC? How!?
LP: If you want to move here and are not sure what you want, or if you don't have a big budget or any credit, or some other reason why you don't want to or can't rent your own apartment right away, I recommend starting in a short-term sublet. I arranged a sublet on Facebook in the month before I first moved here, with a girl I hadn't met. I found a sublet group on Facebook, and I know Craigslist (although sketchy) does have sublet opportunities as well. Technically speaking not all subletting is "legal," but NYC subletting laws are pretty draconian. There are legal sublets out there but I can't speak for all of them. It's a little ridiculous, but only the strictest of landlords really seem to care. Just something to keep in mind.
I will be very candid with you - if one of your parents has a very high paying job, you'll be in much better shape to rent your own place. Oftentimes landlords want renters with a guarantor who makes anywhere from 40x to 90x the monthly rent.
If you can find a roommate, do it. Keep open lines of communication about what your priorities are in a living situation. Those things typically come down to:
1. Distance from the train/Manhattan/jobs 2. Space in the apartment 3. Personalities 4. Interest in the neighborhood
If your roommate has a parent who can be the guarantor, or one of yours can be, you will be in great shape to find your own place, even without jobs right away. If not, subletting is your best bet. Do NOT be afraid to speak openly and candidly with each other about finances. You have to be realistic. You have to be wise.
I live in a neighborhood in Queens called Astoria. I share a 3bed convert (meaning it's 2 bed with no living room now because we made it into a bedroom) with a big kitchen, a decent bathroom, and a great landlord. I pay around $900 every month for this, and I'm paying for proximity to the train, proximity to Manhattan (I can be in Times Square in 25 minutes if the trains are running on time), and space. The price jumps up at least $500 a share once you try to find a similar place like that in Manhattan. Yes, the prices are insane. The cheapest studios I see are somewhere around $1500 and you usually don't get much space for that money. The more roommates you have, the cheaper your rent can be, but you will have to sacrifice things like privacy and quiet.
When I first moved here, I paid $750 a month for one half of a 2 bedroom apartment in the same neighborhood, but the landlord was not great, and we had mice and heat problems. You really get what you pay for, and sometimes neighborhoods (like mine) get trendier every year.
I found both apartments with a local broker who knows the neighborhood, and I found her on Craigslist. This is not a blanket endorsement of Craigslist. If something seems too good to be true, it definitely is.
Stay away from Williamsburg, or anything off the L train for now. Look up where the train lines are going to be shut down for long periods of time, and don't move there. Good neighborhoods to look at for lower budgets:
Manhattan: Inwood, Washington Heights, Harlem, Queens: Sunnyside, East Elmhurst, Astoria, Long Island City Brooklyn: Bushwick, Crown Heights.
I don't know Brooklyn super well, honestly, but there are parts of Brooklyn that are still affordable. The ones I listed are all really vibrant and diverse communities, and if you want to be a part of them, they'll be glad to have you. If you have your heart set on Manhattan, you will be paying a lot more for a lot less convenience (longer walk to the store, higher prices, fewer laundromats), but you will have proximity to a lot of cool stuff.
CAC: But seriously, how do you make a living in NYC?
LP: When I first moved here, I got a job at a hotel as a food runner and then a server by attending an open call I found on Craigslist. I also got a job as a host at a Times Square chain restaurant because I had friends who were working there at the time and got me an interview. Another friend recommended a temp agency to me. I got a decent amount of work through there. Basically, it's easier to get a job if you have an "in," but you may have to start at the bottom of the barrel and work your way up.
Some weeks I worked five days at the restaurant, one day at the temp job, and mornings at the house of an actor preparing for a one-man show he was doing. I had to keep really careful track of my paychecks and budget to make sure I would have enough for rent. I made sure I had a cushion of money in my checking account just in case I had an emergency.
The hours will be long and frustrating and you might cry a lot, but if you can stick with it through the tough times, I promise you that you will be able to work anywhere in the world and do anything you want to do, because you did it in New York. Go to open calls. Make phone calls. Walk in and be ready to fill out an application in person, and ask to see the manager right away. Be proactive. Let the rush of energy and fear from being in a new place help you take action.
The one thing I will say is don't let the job become your whole life. There are so many things to see and do here, and you want to have the time to enjoy them. It's not just about survival, it's about living well, and about having time to work on your art. Now I have one job in due diligence, with benefits and healthcare, that allows me to work on my theater stuff, my real passion, in my spare time. I've been with that firm for a little over four years.
CAC: How much would you suggest artists moving to NYC budget for their first year?
LP: I moved here with about $5k, and it took me about $3k to get settled over a period of three months. I lived out of suitcases but clawed my way into an apartment, and took it from there. I also talked to my parents to figure out what my "bailout" fund looked like, and they gave me a ballpark figure - if things ever got really bad, I knew I could call them, but there was a limit, so that encouraged me to stay frugal. I didn't consider that money part of my budget, just a little peace of mind - and I still haven't used it. (But keep in mind, this was in 2012, so adjust for inflation!)
CAC: What other practical resources would you recommend to a Catholic artist living in NYC?
LP: Apply for an IDNYC. It's a municipal (city) ID card that comes with yearlong museum memberships that you can sign up for via the website and it's also a valid ID card if you're somewhat irregular in your living situation - anyone who can prove residency, even homeless persons, can get one! Also, make www.broadwayforbrokepeople.com your bookmark for discounted play tickets. Most theaters have discount programs based on age. You can also try for lotto tickets using the TodayTix app.
CAC: What are your top 3 pieces of advice for Catholic artists moving to NYC?
LP: 1. Go to Mass, every Sunday. Try out different parishes until you find one where you feel comfortable and welcome. We have so, so many and they are waiting for you to fill them up with your time and talents. If they are in your neighborhood, so much the better.
2. Invest in your neighborhood. Shop local. Get to know the community. Attend local events. You're going to meet people you'd never have met back home, and most of them won't be artists, or Catholic - although some might be both! It will inform you creatively more than you know.
3. Surround yourself with people who treat you with the respect and dignity you deserve. This might seem like general life advice, and it is, but as a Catholic you'll find yourself facing challenges in the city, and as an artist in this city, you'll certainly be challenged. But at the end of the day, when you lay your head down, wherever you find a spot, you have to know you are safe and loved. Nothing is worth your respect and dignity, and do everything you can to maintain it. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you feel trapped and afraid. You aren't the only artist (or Catholic) to feel this way in this city.

Hey hey, it's gay bike anon again! I'm more than honoured to get my own tag!!! I definitely would like to keep talking to you <3 And only love for you too <3
I'll gladly wait for your response to my ask (or asks??? we'll see one day ehehehe)! I feel you, when people cite some of my text messages from a few months (or more) ago I'm often like "nope, nah-ah, that's not me, you're wrong". Same for older essays, I often can't believe I wrote those. And even with things I wrote late at night a few weeks ago, sometimes I'm like "I wrote that? That monstrosity??? Okay, I need more sleep before writing". (My capacity of writing in correct English grammar usually goes to sleep before I do, same goes for varied word choice). But sometimes I'll see this project I've worked on YEARS ago and exactly recognize the pieces I wrote? Since the ask would be fairly recent, I suppose I would recognise my writing style and word choice and since I didn't wrote it whilst sleep deprived (I hope??) I'm setting my chances of recognising it pretty high. But we'll see one day, the mystery will marinate for a while... [I am rereading this in the daytime, and this is EXACTLY what I meant, at night I make the weirdest word choices?? I’m definitely not changing it though because I might find it kinda funny]
I snorted so hard about the way you talked about your almost-name, I'm giggling here like crazy. Apparently my name means something alike 'dedicated to God', but my parents aren't really believers, so gotta love that. The meaning of my sibling's name is 'summer', but I'm the one born in the summer, whilst my sibling is born in autumn, oops. Guess my parents never checked one of those sites/ books where you can find the meaning of a name hahaha.
I love how my ask was so weird and chaotic that you sent a screenshot to a friend. I LOVE that she had no idea what was going on. Then again, I watched the semis (obviously hahaha) but I had no idea what was going on either... But honestly it was peak Dutch culture, water and bicycles, I would just add an ode to 'hagelslag' and voila, the entirety of Dutch culture summed up... [Also: if you don't know: 'hagelslag' is just sprinkles which we eat on bread, yes, on bread, we do not not only eat sprinkles as on cake or on donuts, like in any other country, no, we put it on bread. It's actually a really popular sandwich topping here. My ultimate favourites are the chocolate ones, but you also have them in several fruity flavours (like forest fruit) and anise flavour.] Thank you, perfect chaotic energy is an ultimate goal I strive towards *bows like I'm Victorian royalty or something*
You're absolutely right, it went EXACTLY like that. Specifically, I would be studying for my exams, explaining topics to myself like I always do, so I'd tell myself "The six possible origins of economies of scope are indivisibility, specialisation, marketing, research and development, GUESS WHAT.. SUBWAY DRIVER GANDÍA... ehhh... what was I doing again??" OR: "one of the most detailed and most used models of responsive regulation is Brathwaite's piramid. His enforcement piramid visually shows, nope not important, SUBWAY DRIVER GANDÍAAAAAA" And I'd laugh, continue explaining theories and calculations to myself until my focus started lessening again and my thoughts would wander off again. I am VERY glad I'm not the only one who thinks about it from time to time, and I'm glad you're not suing me for any mental harm yet.
Yess, those pictures I saw from Promising Young Woman look so beautiful and aesthetic!! I'll probably watch it somewhere after the 16th, because I'll most likely have finished my last exams by then. I'll tell you what I thought about it! Thank you SO SO SO much for all the luck wishes!!!! I had an exam last Friday and I absolutely rewarded myself, because it went better than I expected and I passed an earlier exam and a paper too! I didn't buy myself a tricorne (yet), but I did buy funko pops (my inner economist said it was 100% rational because it was a really good deal hahaha). I still have two exams to go, so I could always buy a tricorne for finishing either of those, OR. EVEN BETTER. I'll ask my parents (or my grandparents) for one for my birthday. I mean, that would be hilarious. They'd be so confused. They've never seen S3 and S4 of LCDP so they'll have no idea, even if I tried to explain it. It would be so incredibly funny (and really really weird for them), I am laughing like crazy just at the thought of it.
I've never been in Finland before, but those temperatures do not sound legal indeed. I have no knowledge of Finnish law, but maybe article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights, the prohibition of torture, would work? If I was the judge I’d 100% agree, so we should all sue the weather sksksks. I'm glad to have brought you rain though (and that I apparently possess the power to do so - magic weather controlling pirate seems like a nice enough job to me)!!! I hope the temperature has become at least somewhat lower. You're right, climate change should just... stop... right away. The weather is pretty weird here, right now: one day it will be super sunny and (at least) around 27 degrees and almost melting away, and the other day it will be raining and I'll be wearing my warmest sweater. Like, why the extremes??
I love that I am able to make you lose your coherent thoughts (that's probably why we have one brain energy about Underwater, because I, too, have the ability to make myself lose my coherent thoughts). I'm glad for your faith in my impersonation of Martín. I even started Duolingo Spanish again, and now know the phrase, "Yo bebo leche" (I drink milk) which obviously would be very important to him. Now I'll just need an Argentinian accent to go with it. Leaning menacingly on a cane would be GREAT, I love the idea. I'll open job applications for a Denver. Maybe my cat could help me, she, much like Denver, is super loud and she is super aggressive towards other cats, so there is potential there. And guiding dogs and even tiny guiding horses exist, why not a guiding cat?
I always assumed I would follow a more... you know… legal... career path, maybe even literally a career in law. But, my accounting professor also showed us how to manipulate financial statements ("so you can notice when people are doing this", uh-huh sure, sure that’s why) and another professor of mine also said that a criminal career sometimes could be the more rational, rewarding choice over a legally acceptable career. So, I suppose I should not be surprised by this sudden change of career plans. I should have seen this coming. And what better way to be able to avoid the laws than by knowing exactly what they are and how far you can go. And if that plan doesn’t work out, the books of law I have (they’re combined in two huge hardcover bundles) are really heavy and you could probably harm someone with them if you hit hard enough… Well, I suppose you can even leave “hard” away, just by hitting someone softly with those books you can bring serious harm to them… Ah, and like that one professor would say: in this scenario it would be a rational choice to become a pirate instead of a privateer. Oh dear, not Arturito :/ Mutiny would seem like a good option, I’ll take over the ship and become Palermo the Pirate. Sounds much and much better than “Arturo the Pirate”, since that isn’t an alliteration, sooo mutiny is reasonable even for that reason. And then there’s the fact that it’s Arturo, I mean, that says enough.
YOU LOVE UNDERWATER TOO????!!!! I completely forgot that you posted that! It seems we do indeed already have one shared braincell energy my friend <3
Last week has been pretty good (except for having to make a test at 9:30, what a godless time, I’m usually barely awake by then ehehehe), I think I aced the test I had, got back some good grades and finally got my first Covid vaccination (and only shortly slight dizziness as a side effect, so that's pretty great). And thanks so much!!! For now I’m safe from Gandía, but somewhere in mid-July I’ll have to take an exam on campus, so I’ll might be able to bring out my inner Palermo then.
How was your week? If the weather is still unkind to you (well, also if the weather *is* kind to you), treat yourself to your favourite ice cream and a break every now and then <3 Do you already have holidays or hasn’t your academical year ended yet?
You’re also right - this is conversation and we’re friends now <3 And I absolutely do like cookies! I would say my favourites are american cookies (though stroopwafels are reaally good as well) but honestly there are only a few kinds of cookies that I don’t love that much. And anything with chocolate in it is GREAT. I do also love apples and bananas, though grapes (which I just had) are even better! What’s your favourite kind of cookie?
Also, I know I have been giving you so many prompts already, but I saw this one in that list you reblogged and it gave me so much Berlermo energy: you live in an apartment with your best friend. the two of you always fall asleep in each other's arms, but one day, your friend isn't there. they've fallen in love with someone else. it's your other best friend, who recently moved in with you. and that's when you realize, that those nights you spent together, weren't so platonic after all. I would love it if you’d write it, but if you decide not to that’s absolutely fine too, no worries <3
By the way, I was going to post this quite a bit earlier, but my laptop (unlike me) decided yesterday night, when I was finishing writing this, that it was time to sleep, so I had to quickly dump this whole rant in Google Docs (it’s almost two and a half pages what the heck) and I was busy all day so I only was able to upload it just now. I swear I can ractually espond faster than after a week :) Have a lovely evening, much love from the gay bike country <3
Heeeeeeey you are back!!! How happy am I to see my favouritest gay bike anon return to my inbox!!! 💕 [Author's note: You can tell I started this reply right away because you've sent me three or four asks since this one and one can tell you are indeed back hahaha]
Yeeeeeees this is how one makes friends!! You know, I was just thinking the other night of how "gay bike anon" shortens to GBA, like the Game Boy Advance, you know. Make of that what you will, but it pleases me to know that you can also have a cute nickname for your cute nickname. Nicknameception.
Yes, exactly that, "I did not write that, and if I did in fact write that.. No I did not." Also, "the mystery will marinate"??? That's an amazing word choice and some day I will absolutely use it for something, just you wait. I think it just goes to show that you should write everything while tired, haha.
Haha I love that naming convention for you. It may make very little sense, but....... but. Also, happy birthday for whenever it is, presumably in the nearby past or future!! Lots of love!! You're the summer child while your sibling is... a summer child, but like, different.
Since you appreciated my almost-name story, I'll reward you with the rest of it: so my name is Tuuli, which is Finnish for "wind". My mum originally wanted to name me Pilvi, which means "cloud". And then she was like oh no this child is not at all serene and cloud-like??? and thus, a new me. I'm glad she had second thoughts, although I wonder if having such an ill-fittingly chill name would've done anything to alter my personality? Nomen est omen and all. There's some kind of an alternate universe where all of that played out, but I'm glad it's not this one.
Yeah either you watched the semis and have no idea, or you didn't watch them and have no idea. There is no way to get what was going on there, I'm certain they themselves also didn't get it. I had no idea about hagelslag but thjipgnhefjpihjo that's amazing, I love that for you!!!! There was absolutely no reason to go there but you as a country just... did that. Amazing. Please have some and report to me so I can live through you. And also, you are absolutely legit Victorian royalty [or something] *bows in return*. Also, I do love how you say "I watched the semis (obviously)." Imagine if you didn't and this entire time I was tragically misinterpreting the nature and intentions of your ask and you were just rolling with it because you've no idea what I'm on about but are also too polite to tell me that. Khhhhhhh
Your brain has priorities!!!! And they're honestly beautiful. Well done, brain. Subway driver Gandíaaaaaaaaaa~~~ My brain is filled with Berlermo quotes that come @ me at random times during the day and leave me just a tad shell-shocked, remembering how it all went down. I'm eating my morning yoghurt and my brain goes yo te propuse fundir oro juntos, and I'm just there like :)))))) Real nice, brain.
Have you had the opportunity to see Promising Young Woman yet? Hhhhh it's so pretty, every time I work on this reply [it's a lot of times, okay, I'm very diligent about this, I stare at this ask and craft snazzy replies in my head all the time, that's why I'm so slow in... actually replying] I'm reminded of that. I'm not a very visual person but the colours and the framing... that was really nice.
I am somewhat glad you've not been to Finland yet, you must hit me up when you come visit, I'll take you for coffee!!! It's actually cooler now (bless!!!!!!!!!!!), the last... four days have been reasonable 14-20 degrees, after four consequtive weeks of 25+. Kkhhhh thinking back to it makes me feel a little ill, but now beret weather is back. I own a lot of berets, dear gay bike anon. I'm going to my university city for the weekend and I'm already wondering which beret(s) I should bring with me. This is an important decision with potential long-lasting consequences. I don't know if you've played any of Telltale's games (The Wolf Among Us and the first two seasons of The Walking Dead are the best ones, fight me), but when you make a decision and the game goes "This character will remember that." and you instantly go oh no what have I done??? That's how I feel about choosing the perfect beret for my city outing. But yes, weather extremes are just the worst. We've been having the longest drought I've ever seen here (it's still not properly rained, for the record, on Tuesday it rained for an hour or so) while in other places there's awful flooding. That's awful.
Ahhh I'm so happy you're continuing your Spanish-learning!! I took a beginner's course at uni in the spring semester, I'm going to take the next one when uni resumes in September. And yes, I'm studying it for LCDP. I mean I love languages in general, but I never had a particular need to study Spanish, until this year I suddenly did. I'm also Duolingo-ing it! Very slowly and steadily. Also, I adore the idea of your cat being your Denver. What's your cat's name??? What do they look like?? Tell me everything, you can't just leave it at my cat, you simply must allow me to meet them. Also, you know why guide cats aren't a thing? Because cats are the worst. I love cats, but you can't just teach them to do useful things. They'll do them if they want to. As I type this, my cat is trying to catch flies at my feet. Her name is Muusa.
I studied accounting for my undergrad!! So I can join you in [[[preventing]]] tax fraud and [[[recognising]]] tampering with financial statements. We can make a totally legitimate business out of it. No but truly, I'm certain we were taught some of those things with the expectation that our future employers would expect it of us. Capitalism is so fun :)))))) And you shouldn't be surprised, academia is but a stepping stone to crime, honestly. Any dark academia book will tell you this. You start out learning Latin and wearing turtlenecks, you end up with murder. That's just how academia works. And you seem to have already chosen your weapon... you're well on your way. :) Palermo the Pirate sounds great!!! I support your mutiny. I don't think I said, but this is my favourite word of the English language. Mutiny. Mutiny????? It doesn't sound very serious. It sounds cute, actually. I love it.
I'm so happy to hear you got your covid vaccine!!!! I had mine a month ago or so - I typed you a reply to the subway Gandía thing on the train ride back, actually. I was really stressed about getting it on my right arm, because I'm left-handed, and last time I got a vaccination (like a decade ago) they insisted on giving it on my left arm and I was sad :( But this time!! I got it on my chosen arm and was very pleased. So anyway, that was a segue. I'm glad you got your covid shot and were side effect -free!!!
My week has been good, thank you!! I went to my uni city for my niece's birthday on Monday, and as said I'm going back on Friday (tomorrow). So this time in between has felt like exactly that, time in between. I started reading Call Me By Your Name. I had my Korean class last night. Now I'm hanging out with my cat (she has stopped chasing flies and climbed to my lap) and talking to you. My holidays started already in May! And uni resumes in the beginning of September, but I'm a tutor for new students so I need to show up three weeks earlier for the orientation weeks. Yes, we do three weeks of orientation (read: three weeks of drinking). It's a bit insane.
Now I need to ask you again how your week has been, since I'm so slow. How has your week been?? Are you free from your exams?? When does your uni resume?
Stroopwafels are so good ahhh I'll have to buy them when and or if I see them. Possibly when I'm in central Europe but haha I can hope to be lucky and see them at a store with imported stuff, you know. My favourite cookies??? Omg maybe these ones - they have this truffle filling, and they're fun to eat (this is important in cookies, you see):

And of course they're Fazer. Because Finnish people have only one setting, apparently. Or maybe that's just me. But all cookies are great, honestly. I like making American cookies, that's always a fun pastime (and you get to have cookie dough, that's like half the fun). I've actually not made them for a lifetime??? Maybe I should, soon. I'll keep you updated. Also, brookies. I love making brookies, they're great.
I really really appreciate being given prompts, I hope you know that!! Thank you!! Consider me pocketing this prompt and maybe eventually some day theoretically getting back to you about it!! You're right - it has Berlermo energy. Insofar as either of them actually have other friends. :)
Thank you for this kind message, dear gay bike anon <3 I'd apologise for my slowness in replying but I think I'd rather you just assume that I'll get back to you, and thank you for your patience <3 Your kind and funny and chaotic asks always brighten my day. I hope you'll have a great rest of the week and just... all the nice and fun and good things and great vibes in life. All the best, dear gay bike anon <3 Take care!! And greetings from Muusa as well - she just yawned and I presume that means "greetings".
