The dubious nature of Iris' name (and what it means)
Sister Iris Fey Hawthorne of Hazakura Temple finds herself in a rather peculiar situation for the Ace Attorney franchise in the fact that she is one of very few characters without a canonical last name. Of course, this hasn't stopped fans from assigning her one—for the purposes of tagging and categorization (or simply to distinguish her from Iris Wilson from The Great Ace Attorney series, because "Iris Ace Attorney" is no longer specific enough), every Ace Attorney fan seems to have a different answer as to what they call her, whether it be Iris Hawthorne, Iris Fey, Iris of Hazakura Temple, or simply Sister Iris. This confusion is understandable given the lack of a clear answer in canon as to what her legal last name is as well as her unusual upbringing; what with being raised in Kurain Village as a Fey, taken away by her father as a Hawthorne, and then sent to Hazakura Temple to become a nun. However, before we delve further into Iris herself, there's something a bit unusual (that I don't often see acknowledged within the fandom) that I'd like to bring up—that being, that this name drama not only affects Iris, but her twin sister Dahlia as well.
Simply put, Dahlia Hawthorne being named Dahlia Hawthorne doesn't make much sense when you think about it. Dahlia was born to Morgan Fey, the then-leader of the matriarchal line of spirit mediums of the Kurain Channeling Tradition. As such, it's safe to assume that she and her twin sister were also given this name upon their birth—so why, then, does she have her father's (or possibly her stepmother's—it's unclear) last name when we meet her in-game? Children generally do not have their last names changed when their parent remarries, so what's the deal? This strange situation makes slightly more sense when you remember that much of Trials and Tribulations builds up to the reveal that Dahlia and Iris are Morgan Fey's daughters; as such, Dahlia appearing in Chapter 1 and introducing herself as "Dahlia Fey" would be a MASSIVE spoiler for the events to come.
As for an in-universe explanation, we obviously aren't given one, but we are given a bit of insight from Dahlia (while disguised as Iris) regarding their father's perspective on leaving Kurain Village:
"He hated the place. He said it was a hick dive, and that he had no reason to stay there."
I think it's not an unreasonable stretch to say that their father wanted nothing more to do with the Fey clan after its reputation had been destroyed post-DL-6, and likely went to great efforts to separate himself (and his daughters) from anything that reminded him of it. With this in mind, who's to say he didn't have the twins' name changed? Now, obviously whether this affected Iris herself is still up for debate—it's possible she had already been sent away to Hazakura before this had all happened. But given that Dahlia implies Iris had only been sent away after their father's second marriage, I find it more likely that her name was changed beforehand. That said, it's still just a headcanon based on my personal preferences—I like the idea of Iris having the last name "Hawthorne" because I think the association with the Hawthorne effect (in which one modifies their behavior in response to being watched) fits her really well, but I don't disagree with those who choose to use other names for her because there are good arguments to be made there as well.
However. However. The intrigue behind Iris' name doesn't even end there. We hear from Sister Bikini very early in Bridge to the Turnabout that it's Hazakura Temple tradition for nuns to choose a "temple" name—meaning that even Iris' given name might not be her real one. I hesitate a bit on this idea considering her name already pairs up nicely with Dahlia’s due to the shared flower theming (and Iris having a lack of respect for acolyte tradition in that regard would give her an interesting resemblance to her mother which I REALLY like), but if it is true it creates another fascinating bit of symbolism—Iris’ first name is a lie. A facade. Which fits in with her lying about her identity to Phoenix for 8 months and her general tendency to put up a front of whoever the person she's talking to wants her to be—whether that be Dahlia's obedient co-conspirator, Bikini's sweet and good-natured daughter figure, or Godot's accomplice and the scapegoat he can use to protect Maya. And neither of the common last names given to her by fandom accurately reflect/show the full picture of who she is either. Fey is what she was born as—but that name comes with a whole host of burdens and generational trauma that she likely does her best to distance herself from considering her tendency to run away from conflict like she did with the fake kidnapping and the aftermath of Doug Swallow's murder (she’s a lot like her aunt in that regard). Hawthorne ties her to the sister she so dearly loves—but also weighs her down due to her sister’s crimes, her role in said crimes, and the family she was sent away from against her will (even if it ended up being better for her) before it tragically fell apart. Neither one truly fits—the Iris name debacle is a perfect representation of the identity crisis of her character and that is nothing short of beautiful to me.

Wrong Number: Chibs Telford X Reader One shot
When reader texts some enticing photos to the wrong number and not to her ol man, she's met with some surprising but hoped for results.
18+ Not full smut but implied.
=======
She let out a frustrated groan as she followed him into the clubhouse, his legs far longer than her own making him move too far ahead of her. The words left Y/N’s lips a low growl erupting from her throat as they entered the clubhouse making their way behind the bar. “I swear to God, Tigger. I’m going to kill you.”
The outlaw biker in front of her only chuckled in response to the threat he clearly was not taking her as seriously as she would have hoped. “Well that’s a little dramatic.”
She glared up at the flip phone in his hand as he held it far above his head out of her reach, her cheeks growing all the more crimson from both anger and sheer humiliation. “Delete them. Delete them right now , Tig.”
Tig had the audacity to actually giggle at the request, shaking his head. “You’re one hundred percent sure these weren’t meant for me? I mean I don’t think you’ve been accepting of any advances I might have shot your way, but if this is your way of giving me a green light then I fully accept.”
A frustrated groan left Y/N’s lips, her cheeks growing even more flushed as she thought of the two sensual photos she’d accidentally texted to Tig’s cell number instead of the cell number she’d been intending.
She fully blamed herself for the slipup. She’d taken the photos after having a little bit of whiskey, the booze loosening her up enough to decide it was a brilliant idea to take some provocative photos for her man. It wasn’t their first venture into this game.
It sure as hell wasn’t her first venture into taking erotic photographs. Her past job had consisted of having risque photographs taken of her and posted on both vanilla and not so vanilla websites. Cara Cara had just been one site she’d done some solo work for.
It wasn’t something she’d ever dreamed of doing. It had started as an easy way to make a quick buck in college after she’d become familiar with a girl who’d done some similar work and had gotten her into the scene.
Y/N had been a broke college girl hoping to make some fast cash so she could eat something other than ramen for dinner. It had gone further than just a one time thing though.
Y/N had always considered herself to be pretty open minded, so it had not been too difficult to lean into doing more fetish material the longer she’d worked. She’d been able to find plenty of work doing some S&M material.
The jobs had started coming in and soon her coursework and college attendance had started to taper off. She’d dropped out and decided to take the option with more money. She figured college would always be there, the ability to make money while she was still desirable enough would only be a fleeting chance though.
She’d leaned more into her job within the industry and a promise of fast cash even if it meant doing something that at times had made her life more complicated than it needed to be.
Her past employment was part of how she’d met her man to begin with. She’d become a friend of Lyla Winston’s through her work. Though Y/N’s job in the industry had only consisted to fetish material based on photographs and the occasional solo work, and Lyla’s work in the industry went far beyond that, the two women had still become friends.
When Y/N had decided that she wanted to move away from the industry and find something a little more straight-laced, Lyla had suggested a bookkeeping job at TM Auto.
Y/N could admit a big push out of the industry had been the suggestion that she might want to consider starting to do some video work with partners. It felt less like a suggestion though and more as though she was being pressured into it.
She had been fine with the photographs and the solo work had been tolerable. She wasn’t interested in going any deeper into it though. She’d been searching for an out, and Lyla’s offer to get her an interview at TM Auto had been a perfect escape route.
She’d always been good with numbers, so she’d decided to take the offer to interview for the bookkeeping gig at TM.
It had not been easy to get the job of course. Gemma Teller Morrow had her suspicions about the young woman who’d come to interview even if Lyla did give her glowing praise.
Y/N knew Gemma was well within her right to be suspicious. She knew her past employment had given her a reputation and she was well aware of what assumptions people made about her. She’d been around a few of the girls in her industry who seemed to view SAMCRO as a chance to hook up with an outlaw and get a quick thrill. Ima was a perfect example of the type of girl who put a bad taste in Gemma’s mouth when it came to anyone who Lyla associated with. Lyla herself had a difficult enough time shaking her reputation and being respected in SAMCRO’s world.
Y/N had found that she had to make it pretty clear that she was only interested in the bookkeeping gig. She had made it quite known that she had zero interest in trying to land herself a guy in a kutte. She made it obvious that she was not looking to seek a sexual thrill out of hooking up with a criminal. She had been unashamed to declare to Gemma that this job opportunity wasn’t her attempting to become a croweater or even an attempt to walk on the wildside.
Gemma had taken a chance on her desperate enough for the help at the garage. Lord knows she needed all the help she could get at the garage.
The majority of the Sons had been serving a 14 month sentence in San Joaquin correctional facility, The Sons on the outside were struggling to keep the business going, and Tara Knowles had been expecting a new member of the family while trying to balance a growing Abel Teller.
Gemma knew her attention needed to be spread between the garage, her place as the Queen of SAMCRO, and her son’s growing family.
So, Y/N had worked as an extra set of hands at the garage. She’d proven to be a great help at the office at TM Auto working both with the books and doing work within the office once Gemma had needed more help.
Her employment at the garage had not gone unnoticed by the few Sons on the outside nor had it escaped the eyes of a few non patched club hang-arounds who worked in the garage.
It had not taken Y/N long to realize that the men around the garage were most likely familiar with her past work. There had been a few snickers and crude comments whispered among the men. They’d not even made an attempt to hide them from her.
She’d not minded the ogling stares nor the lewd whispered comments. Or at least she’d tried to pretend she’d not minded them.
She’d learned in her past career that she had to have thick skin. Opie Winston had been kind enough. He’d been dating Lyla when Y/N had begun working for TM and he’d seemed approving of her even if he didn’t always seem to approve of his girlfriend’s line of work.
One other man had seemed to shy away from the obscene remarks and leers. In fact, Chibs Telford had proven to be a complete gentleman to her.
She’d been suspicious at first. She was almost certain the sweet gentleman act was most likely an attempt to charm his way into her pants. Lord knows she’d had a few guys try the nice guy act once they figured out what she did for a living.
She had soon realized though that the nice guy act was far from an act.
Chibs genuinely seemed to be prone to treating her like a lass after his own heart.
It hadn’t been hard for them to form a friendship of sorts. It had been less hard once Chibs had shut down a less than quiet vulgar remark made about her body and her past bondage work by some foolish nonpatched mechanic around the garage.
It had definitely created some sexual tension between Chibs and she that had not gone unnoticed by a few people around the garage.
She’d considered if there was something more there than friendship, but had shied away from pursuing anything. She’d told herself that even if there was some lingering sexual tension that it was likely just that.
She’d grown accustomed to the knowledge that most men in her life viewed her as more of a sexual object and less than a fully formed person. She could admit that she feared Chibs’ interest in her leaned more on the sexual side of the coin and she couldn’t bear the disappointment in finding out that he maybe didn’t view her past lust.
She’d been unaware that he’d held his own reservations. Chibs had been certain that a young attractive woman like her most likely wasn’t interested in him. She was far more than the former fetish model the guys around the garage had labeled her as. She was a gorgeous woman but that wasn't the only thing that had him so taken by her. She was clever and funny and sweet as can be. He was enamored and it scared the hell out of him.
She had come into his life at a strange time. He’d recently come to the decision with Fiona to end their marriage now that Jimmy O’ was no longer a threat and they were free to live their lives. They’d realized those lives were best lived only as coparents to their daughter and not as romantic partners.
It had been a painful choice but they’d both known they’d changed in the years since they’d last been able to behave as a married couple.
He’d been mourning the end of that chapter of his life and had been trying to focus on keeping the club afloat with most of his brothers locked away.
Y/N had provided a tempting escape from the stress and heartache. He’d been unwilling to lean too far into the temptation of that escape though.
He’d been unwilling until he just couldn’t help himself anymore.
The cross over into friendship into something more had happened a late night at the garage where they'd been the only ones remaining; he working late in the garage on a stubborn Harley rebuild and her working on some stubborn books.
A shared joint had loosened up reservations between the two and a kiss had happened. The kiss had lead to a passionate make out session on the little couch at TM Auto and the makeout session had led to her being bent over the desk at TM Auto with him taking her from behind.
After that encounter she’d expected things to be awkward or worse had feared that he’d disappear once he got what he wanted. She knew that old saying: when men got what they want they never wanted it again.
Much to her shock Chibs Telford had wanted it again and again and again.
The want had continued as the months had gone by.
Once his incarcerated brothers had been released Y/N had feared that her time working in the garage had come to an end, but to her shock Gemma had asked her to stay on.
Y/N had even begun taking some online courses in accounting.
Things with Chibs had continued on, though much to her chagrin they’d not exactly placed a label on it.
He’d not seemed to be in any rush to make whatever they had going on together public knowledge either.
She’d bit back her annoyance once it had hit her that she didn’t seem to be just another bedroom partner for Chibs. It had become clear that she was his only bedroom partner.
She’d heard the prodding and teasing from his brothers towards Chibs about his neglect of the croweaters and prodding over just who was keeping his dick wet.
Little glances Chibs sent her way had gone unnoticed for the most part. If anything his brothers had assumed that the older Scot had a crush that he wasn't acting on and had not looked into it any deeper.
Chibs had also made it clear that he didn’t want anyone making a move on her either. Kozik and one of the prospects Miles had made the mistake of trying to push up on her, and Chibs had just about cracked a tooth making an excuse to get the men far from the woman he’d been spending his nights with.
Y/N had come to the irritated acceptance that pushing Chibs into putting a label on them and making things between them public knowledge was not something she could force.
She would be lying though if she tried to pretend that lately it wasn’t becoming more and more obnoxious though.
A big part of her wanted to scream at him to piss or get off the pot.
Perhaps that was why texting him naughty photos more frequently had become a habit lately.
She’d had hopes that maybe reminding him that she was there and was willing would push him to at least think about her as something more than what she was beginning to fear she might be to him.
She had hopes that seeing her in such provocative positions in his dorm room of all places would plant the idea in his head that she could spend every night in his dorm if he wanted it. If he wanted to make it clear that she was his and actually put a label on it then she would be happy to be in his dorm anytime he wanted.
She knew it was probably a dumb idea. If she wanted him to place a label on it and be open about it with the people in their lives then perhaps dirty photos weren’t the right move? The dirty photos were supposed to be a secret after all.
Their entire courtship had felt too secretive for her liking.
She was beginning to lose hope though. She was considering stepping up her game. She was tempted to let Kozik take her on that damned bike ride he’d been offering her for months now. Maybe seeing someone else be so willing to be seen with her in public would light a fire under the Scottish idiot’s ass?
She’d been toying with the idea but she had a feeling it would just bite her in the ass.
She had allowed the whiskey to push her to once again try the naughty photo angle. Maybe if he kept seeing her in such a state in his dorm room he’d take the damn hint?
The red dress had been a praised favorite of her intended texting partner. The red lace of her bra had been a new purchase that had been made with him in mind. The push up bra made her assets look so tempting. She’d realized he liked her in red.
She was almost stunned that Tig Trager had not recognized the dorm room that had been featured in the background of the two photos that had been sent his way.
The small glimpse of the dorm room would have most likely given a hint of just who those two photos had been meant for had Tig bothered to pay attention to the background.
She glared up at Tig as he held the cell phone up even higher, a chuckle leaving him as she attempted to reach up her arms stretching as high as she could. The height difference made the feat an impossible one though. The cell phone remained far from her reach.
She was tempted to kick him in the balls and get the damn phone that way, but she wasn’t willing to fight dirty…not yet at least.
She spoke another frustrated growl leaving her throat. “Tig, this is not funny, delete them right now.”
Tig replied a sigh leaving him. “I’ll delete them if you tell me who they’re intended for. Please tell me it isn't fucking Kozik. I’ve seen the looks he sends you Y/N. You deserve way more than that blonde moron, trust me? Oh, Christ. It’s not one of the damn prospects is it? I know both Miles and V-Lin stare at you like you’re a steak dinner and they’ve been trapped in death valley. Please tell me you aren’t giving it up to one of them? I think we both know you’re way more woman than they can handle.”
Y/N felt her cheeks grow pink remembering the poorly thought out scheme to perhaps use Kozik’s interests in her to get a rise out of Chibs.
She had to agree with Tig’s assessment somewhat…Kozik was somewhat sweet…but not the brightest.
She could admit she’d decided against using Kozik as a means to force Chibs hand partially because the poor guy was so sweet…and ditzy. It felt wrong using him to get the man she loved to make a commitment.
As far as the prospects went, Y/N had zero interest in either man. She had a distinct feeling that both men were more boys than men. She had a feeling that the prospects would have zero clue how to please her in the bedroom and didn't have quite the maturity for anything outside the bedroom.
There was only one man who she knew as capable of pleasing her and much to her frustration he seemed hesitant to make things between them public or give any indication to her that this was something more than them having fun.
He always said the same thing the few times she'd brought it up. I'm having a lot of fun with you. I enjoy being with you. I want to keep it to ourselves just a little bit longer.
She could admit she'd hesitated to push him to actually address the issue. She feared that Chibs may never be willing to give her the relationship she desired. She was not looking to rush into the heartbreak she was sure would come if it was said clear and plain that he did not view her as an actual romantic partner and did not want everyone to know she was his.
She spoke a groan leaving her as she continued to struggle to reach the phone she had taken to jumping in place to attempt to snatch it from his grasp. “Alexander Trager, I swear to God, delete those photos or I will murder you and no one will ever find the freaking body.”
“Lass, what’s with all the death threats? What have ya done to piss her off Tig?” A familiar voice sounded out beside her.
Y/N cringed glancing at the Scotsman as he approached the bar, an amused smirk on his lips.
She sighed at the sight of the man who those damn photos had been intended for. He’d had a long morning, meeting with the Irish and then being drug away on a tow job the instant he’d returned to the garage.
She’d hoped that the photos would be a pleasant gift to him as well as another hint to put a label on this and make it public.
She sighed wanting nothing more than to sink into the floor and disappear as Tig grinned giddy to bring Chibs in on the act of tormenting TM Autos' favorite office worker.
Tig grinned between Chibs and Y/N as she spoke. “Little Miss Y/N accidentally sent me some very alluring photos. She won’t tell me who they’re intended for and she refuses to admit that it’s clearly me. I’m right, right Y/N? It’s me, you don’t have to be shy. You could have just said the word and I would have given you the Tig-action you’re craving. You didn’t have to go through the routine of sending me dirty photos and pretending it’s not meant for me. Just say the word and I’ll go grab some baby oil.”
“Tig I swear to God.” She snapped, refusing to glance over at Chibs, certain he was not entirely pleased with this information.
Tig spoke a giggle leaving him still content to prod her. “I know, I know baby oil isn’t the best choice, but it works in a bind, babe. I’m a big man, we’re going to need the help.”
Y/N cringed at the possessive growl that left Chibs he not entirely amused at the statement. “Those weren’t meant fer ya.”
“I know, she won’t tell me who they're meant for. You gotta see them, Chibby. It’s fucking torture. I’m afraid it was meant for Kozik. She won’t own up to it, but we both know the idiot sends her heart-eyes at every chance he gets. Herman Kozik is so not worth red lace.” Tig exclaimed not picking up on the irritation and jealousy bouncing off Chibs.
Y/N wanted to melt into a puddle of awkward shame she refusing to meet Chibs’ eyes choosing instead to stare down at the floor. This moment was going to kill her. If she was capable of dying from awkward situations this would do it.
She widened her eyes as Chibs spoke his voice, a domineering tone that made her knees weak and her center clench.“Let me see em.”
She resisted the urge to groan, having to hate that she’d always had a submissive streak, even before she'd gotten into fetish work. She had always had a thing for having a guy dominate her if he knew what he was doing and wasn't just being an asshole. She found it difficult to find a guy who was capable of dominating her without being a dick about it or misusing the trust she gave him. Chibs had proven he was more than capable of effectively giving her the domination she craved. He had proven he was capable of giving her what she wanted while respecting what boundaries she'd placed on the desire to submit to him.
She was quite certain he’d used that same tone of voice in a couple of their sexual encounters though it usually involved him saying far more lewd things.
That tone of voice was usually reserved for when he told her to take her clothing off and bend over for him, or to get down on her knees and open her greedy little mouth for his cock.
It was so a voice she did not need to hear outside of those scenarios.
Tig did not notice Y/N hitch in breath to the voice he jerking a little shocked as Chibs yanked the phone from his grasp before he had a chance to even comprehend what was happening.
He dared to speak, the playful tone disappearing, he at least having the sense to prove that he wasn't a total scumbag. “Come on, Chibs. I’m sure she doesn’t want everyone seeing them. I was going to delete them…eventually.”
Chibs ignored him gazing down at the photos on the screen, a groan of approval and desire leaving his lips. He reached down clearly making an attempt to adjust his jeans. It was obvious that the photos had the desired impact on the lower region of his body.
Y/N was more sure than ever that she could die of shame and awkward in the moment. She sighed coming to the conclusion that she’d had a good life or at least an okay one..if she died now it would be fine.
She widened her eyes as Chibs spoke his voice loud and clear. “These photos weren’t meant fer ya Lad, Pretty sure, my ol lady meant to text these fuckin glorious photos to me. She may a’been a wee bit tipsy when she decided to send em judgin by the dazed look in her eyes in this firs pic. My Love can’t handle her whiskey. She an I clearly need to have a talk bout drinkin an textin.”
“Wait, what?” Tig spat out his eyes growing wide struggling to grasp the information Chibs had just laid out on the table for him.
Chibs spoke again, hitting the delete button on the photos as he spoke. “I’ll be deletin these Tigger. Ain’ havin ya share what was meant fer my eyes with anyone else.”
Y/N stared up at him feeling as breathless as Tig though her astonishment was for a far different reason. Did he just call her what she thought he called her? Ol lady, his ol lady?
Chibs tossed the phone down on the bar as he nodded to Y/N. “Come on, M’Love. I think ya need to show me jus what ya were hopin fer when ya meant to send those photos to me.”
She moved forward any of the embarrassed awkwardness she’d felt hanging over her leaving her brain her body heating up having the feeling Chibs was going to show her just how much those photos had affected him.
Chibs wrapped an arm around her his hand sliding down to her backside, giving it a squeeze that sent a message that he had zero intention of hiding what she was to him from anyone ever again.
He spoke his voice picking up that possessive growl he’d shown earlier. “Red lace, Lass? Ya still got it on?”
She gazed up at him, her knees feeling wobbly and her panties getting beyond soaked. “No, I’m wearing something else…purple lace.”
He gave her backside a squeeze, his voice still holding that possessive tone. “Aye, think I’ll like that too.”
He pressed his lips to hers as they made their way down the hallway towards his dorms before he spoke. “Gonna fuckin kill Tig fer seein yer body, Love. Christ, think it’s time I put my crow on ya. Gotta make it clear to him, Kozik, and every other prick round here that yer mine…especially fuckin Kozik. The only way that idiot’s gonna get a clue is when my crow is on my ol lady.”
“As long as it’s not my tit. I’m not giving tit for tat, no matter how much I love you.” She remarked her mind spinning trying to grasp everything he’d just said.
This was more than what she’d hoped for and she’d not planned any of it. If she’d known it was going to be this simple she would have accidentally texted Tig intentionally.
He smirked his lips pressing to hers much gentler as they neared his dorm room. “Aye not on yer tit. Like those too much the way they are, Love.”
She spoke needing to say the words. “I was almost afraid of what this was between us…afraid it wasn’t what I was hoping…you haven’t exactly seemed in any rush to put any label on it or show me any sign or this being anything in front of anyone. You’ve seemed pretty content keeping things between us so secretive…I actually thought I was going to have to give Kozik a date to light a fire under your ass or at least test you to see if this meant anything to you.”
Chibs cringed realizing she had a point. “Aye, I know Love. Trus me…I know I’ve not exactly been open bout how I feel bout ya. To tell the truth...Ya came into my life at an odd time, Love. I love ya deeply, ain’ felt that way bout anyone in a long while. I was fraid of not bein what ya need…fraid of failing ya. Almos' convinced myself ya were more than I could ever deserve and ya'd realize it sooner or later. I was almos fraid if I put a label on it and let anyone know then I’d lose ya the same way I lose everyone else I love. I thought if the world knew ya were mine then it’d put a target on yer back.  No more though, Lass. This scares the shite outta me, but not havin ya…losin ya due to my own fear…that scares me even more. I love ya too damn much to hide what I feel fer ya m’love.”
He paused a huff leaving him. “I’d kick Kozik’s fuckin teeth in if he ever took ya on a date fer the record.”
She didn’t have a chance to reply as he pressed his lips to hers the words leaving him “Putting my crow on ya as soon as possible, Love. Not hidin what ya are to me.”
“I want it…and for the record. You aren't going to lose me and you are never undeserving of me.” She promised her hand reaching up to caress his cheek, he leaning into her touch a content sigh leaving him.
He pressed another kiss to her lips as he reached down, opening his dorm. “I love ya, Lass. Love my ol lady so much more than she knows.”
She allowed him to lead her into the room fully content to let him show her just much he loved her.
Neither heard Tig as the man finally snapped out of his shocked daze, his voice loud and full of relief. “Ol lady…Chibs…Oh thank Christ it’s not fucking Kozik.”

Trigun hyperfixation has an iron grip on me and I desperately need to get my head to think of something else. Especially cos I crave so much for good stories but to my suprise, a lot of (vashmeryl) fanfics I read are extremely samey, especially the post-anime ones.
That being said, while reading, I was actually suprised to see a few scenarios or themes never explored? So I thought, since I can't get my brain to focus anyways, might as well drop some vashmerly hcs and prompts.
the one I'm most suprised has not been explored at all is Meryl and Milly trying to teach Vash how to actually talk/flirt with women. I still dunno how Vash came to be known as a womamizer in the og anime cos he is abyssmal when it comes to flirting. So, after an especially embarassing rejection, Meryl picks a fight with Vash as usual and he's all like "yeah, then you show me how it's done." Not one to chicken out on a competition (and with avid encouragement by Milly) they set up a fake date. I can totally see it going really funny, Meryl trying her darn hardest to act like an actually interested date but can't help herself from cringing and and scoffing at how stupid Vash' approaches are. So basically, it would be a mix of silly flirting and a lot of bantering. By the end Meryl admits that he's not half bad if he just turns down the goofiness a bit, mentioning if he just ties up the night nicely he might even score a second date (she means in general, not realizing that it sounds like she's implying a date with her). Cue Vash doing the only smooth move in his life and stealing a goodnight kiss, asking "well, did it work?"
less of a prompt or headcanon, but in all the scar-centric fics Ive read, not once is it mentioned how Vash has a literal cage over his heart? Ive always loved this little design aspect, since it so obviously shows Vash fortifying his heart and keeping everyone out. I can also see Meryl being all smug like "well, im small and nimble, and the spaces between the bars are wide, I can easily slip through"
another funny thought about the metal grids on his body would be them cuddling but Meryl's hair gets caught on the metal and now they have to akwardly maneuver out of this situation
Meryl uses any and all situations to be taller than Vash. Since she is so much smaller than him, she usually stands when he sits, especially when they argue, tries to be just a few stairs above him or walks a few more steps up a slop so she can peer down on him. Not that her presence isn't big enough already, but she for sure tries her hardest to assert dominance.
To her dismay, Vash likes to use this moments to pick her up. I dunno why, but since Meryl is so small I can see Vash just enjoying it to pick her up and twirl her around. Lugging her around like a pretty looking sack of potatoes.
Vash is a human pretzel. He will contort his body in ways to hug as much of Meryl as possible.
Meryl becomes incredibly good at ignoring Vash if she needs to work. She could be sitting at her typewriter, only noticing Vash has her in a vice grip when Milly asks if she isn't distracted.
Despite how spiky it looks, Vash' hair is actually pretty soft and fluffy, and once Meryl finds out she uses any opportunity to run her fingers through it. Vash doesn't mind cos he totally digs the head scratches (humanoid typhoon? more like humanoid doggo)
when traveling together, they usually share a thomas cos Vash can't ride for shit. Vash likes to be dramatic and complain about it (cos he's a big boy thank you very much) but he can't deny that he wholly enjoys being cuddled up behind Meryl for hours on end.
Welp, just some food for thought cos my brain is in Trigun overdrive. These are specifically based on the 98 versions of them but I have a whole lot for Stampede as well haha

i beat ch 4 last night/early this morning so i have some thots (in no particular or coherent order)
Lilya best girl. i thought she was great from her introduction, but what cemented my affection was her asking Sonetto how much chaos and damage she could cause and still get a slap on the wrist. drunken brawler she may be, but she's a drunken brawler that plans ahead. i don't know how much Lilya knows about when the 'Storm' occurs; if that night she was just following orders and thinking she needed to corral a bunch of 12yos breaking curfew. i think it'd be way worse if she knew the 'Storm' was touching down that night and in her failure, a bunch of innocent kids were redacted.
Constantine obviously defers to the President (currently still a Mystery Man Shrouded in Shadow) because of her position as Vice President, but their whispered conversation implies that there's someone even the President is taking orders from. are they the true leader behind the Foundation? who/what are they that they've got Constantine shaking and scrambling to allow the 'Storm Reformation' to pass? and while Constantine is following orders, the night she got a bunch of kids redacted was absolutely personal - she just wanted to yank Vertin's chain. Ch 4 set up several factions, amongst which Constantine v Madam Z is one. interesting that Constantine not only knows Madam Z enjoys Go, but knows enough about the lunar calendar and which day Z's birthday falls on. incheresting.
speaking of Z, i think her full name is 'Zhang ZhiZhi', based off the cake at the end of Ch 4.
another name, i think the Trails Narrator implies The Ring's name is Ken?
EDIT: more names!!! Forget Me Not, formerly known as Cavendish Jr.
Druvis is absolutely the strongest arcanist in Vertin's group right now. i'm so glad Vertin was able to win her over holy shit. girl was dropped into another era, separated from her allies, and still managed to seedbomb an entire Foundation building; setting up defenses, growing food, finding and busting out her allies. she just needs to come home OTL
the storm
while it's a worldwide phenomenon, where and when it strikes is localized (i remember reading this from a post in the tags) and after Ch 4, that seems to be the case
Sonetto testifying against the Chicago branch brings up that the Foundation members were aware they were living in 1929 Chicago.
so does this imply that 'Era' is a bit like its own dimension, with its own time and space?
when Vertin calls for backup from Madam Z, she requests the agents come in 'appropriate dress' so like.
but the Foundation is also keeping the 'Storm' under wraps. so do regular citizens know that when they travel, they might suddenly pop into a different 'era'?
all just speculation on my part; will need more info from later releases.
schneider schneider schneider OTL
EDIT: youngest of the Greco's 12 13 daughters. because of how big her family is and her position as the youngest, Schneider was left scrounging for scraps.
born and raised on an orange grove in Sicily, immigrating to Chicago at some point
EDIT: part of a crime family; family is religious but per the Trails Narrator, Schneider herself lost her faith at some point, only praying again when Vertin was asking for everyone's last wishes OTL
somehow discovered the 'Storm' was due to touch down in Chicago and attempted to request shelter for her family at the Foundation's Chicago branch but was rejected, owing to the Chicago branch's corruption
met Druvis at some point and had her modify her guns to be able to cast spells and pass as an arcanist (i wonder if that meant Druvis knew she was human the whole time or if schneider only told her she wanted her 'wands' upgraded and given Druvis' state of mind before meeting Vertin i doubt she'd dig that deep). does this mean humans are also capable of magic as long as they have the right tools? or is schneider special in this case?
posing as an arcanist, she offered her services to Forget Me Not and Manus Vindictae in return for shelter for her and her family
FMN is suspicious of her claim of being an arcanist that was adopted into a human family and has one of her sisters kidnapped and interrogated with truth serum. FMN knew Schneider was human while she kidnapped(?) arcanists for him/MV and dispatched humans that got in their way.
EDIT: that's right: Druvis was adopted into the Weyerhauser family!! assuming Druvis was already in contact with FMN/MV before Schneider, no wonder FMN was suspicious of a second 'arcanist' showing up with the same backstory.
i get the sense that Schneider doesn't have any particular feelings against arcanists (despite that being the attitude for the era) and i can understand why after Ch 4. after the way the Foundation's Chicago branch treated her and her family - despite being an organization that prioritizes the safety of humankind - of course she'd turn into a misanthrope.
several lines describe her as 'looking pale like a white pigeon[sic]'
after Lilya breaks Vertin out of the rehab center, while the 2 are in the air, doves fly by - Vertin even manages to grab a white feather out of the air
when the 2 meet up with Druvis and the others, a flock of doves land around them.
DEEP HUFF OF COPIUM
THEREFORE SCHNEIDER IS STILL HERE; THE DOVES HAVE TO MEAN SOMETHINGGGGGG
'Schneider' is just an alias; if she's coming back, she might be coming back under her real name.

;NSR MAYDAY - General Headcanons
Tumblr media
Compilation of general headcanons and analysis about Mayday and other Mayday related things.
Tumblr media
I just needed an excuse to fleshen out / analyze Mayday and any HCs I have for her bc I'm thinking soooo much about this game <3 there's also Zuke stuff in here because you can't talk abt one without the other lmfao
Tumblr media
Aside from music, Mayday and Zuke share an interest for fixing, modding and tinkering with machines (any piece of tech discarded out in the streets).
Their approach to reverse engineering all the tech they get is different - Mayday focuses on recycling to build something entirely new and more powerful, while Zuke focuses on fixing and perfecting whatever it is that he's tinkering with, to make it more precise.
This is most notable with their respective instruments. Mayday's guitar is 100% built from scratch, spare parts and passion, it's also modded and tuned to her liking. This means that she's literally the ONLY person who can understand how it works, and why she couldn't replace her old guitar once it was destroyed at the end of the game. Meanwhile, Zuke opts for using NSR-brand drumsticks - the best of the best in the market - which he mods to work better with his way of playing.
The workshop in their base is attributed to Zuke because he's the one who cleared out the area to have all of their little projects located in an organized spot, since most of their living quarters were filled with unfinished projects, wrenches and bolts everywhere and so on. This is because Mayday has a very short attention span and gets attached easily, so she never has the time to finish anything nor the heart to discard her projects - especially when she keeps drawing faces onto everything.
A lot of their equipment was just made by Mayday herself, since she needed speakers strong enough to withstand the power of her guitar without getting fried after every performance. Many of their mutual friends see Zuke as the genius of the duo, but he insists that Mayday is the one doing most of the carry for B2J.
Both Mayday and Zuke got into music because of their loved ones.
It's canon that DK West is the reason Zuke got into music, and I like to think family was also one of the main reasons Mayday got into music, namely rock. One of her dialogues in-game mentions how her grandma used to listen and sing to the Goolings with her using an old radio, despite not knowing the lyrics nor understanding the music.
Whereas Zuke was influenced by his brother's rap career to give music a try, it was kind of the reverse for Mayday - rock music became a big interest for her from a young age, and her family supported her wholeheartedly. They would take her to concerts, buy merch for her whenever it was possible and basically hype her up. Her father can probably name every different phase and era in Mayday's childhood and teenage years based on the groups she was into at the time.
Judging from dialogue, I think it's implied that Mayday was born and raised in Vinyl City, and that she never really travelled outside. So it's not impossible for her family to attend her first concerts (in small, local venues as a teenager, before she and Zuke even met) and her proper debut in B2J. Her family is also the first ones to receive official B2J merch, shirts that she and Zuke designed and that look AWFUL but that they love all the same.
I think this family aspect also ties in nicely with the base game, specifically Yinu's fight since it's the first moment of tension for Mayday and Zuke in which they realize they might not be the good guys for hijacking concerts.
For Mayday, music is a lifestyle, not something to be forced onto people - she goes directly against NSR because of the EDM enforcement and the rock ban, after all. So it makes sense to me that she becomes a bit too engrossed in fighting Yinu's mother, someone who is directly puppeteering her own child and represents parents who live vicariously through their talented kids, to the point where she also forgets that Yinu is a child. A fact that she also initially brushes aside herself since Yinu is part of NSR.
I don't know, I just like when characters are flawed and multifaceted! Mayday and Zuke should be allowed to be hypocrites, as a treat.
Mayday taught herself how to play.
My personal agenda is to also hype up Mayday for being a music genius at 21, so yeah! I like to think she's 100% self-taught, which parallels Zuke's musical education rather nicely. They're both extremely good in their own unique ways.
She used to play by ear, trying to figure out how to play her favorite songs when she was younger, and later began to actually study music notation and so on.
When spontaneously coming up with new melodies and songs for B2J, she mostly uses her phone to record herself singing, as opposed to Zuke immediately needing to jot down everything.
It took awhile for Mayday to pick up and use Kul Fyra's guitar.
After the events of the game, Mayday ABSOLUTELY needed some time to properly process everything - her dialogue is all about realizing that she was in the wrong and reconsider the reason she picked up music in the first, wondering if she began to rebel against NSR because she couldn't cope with B2J and rock (two things very dear to her heart) being rejected, etc. So she wouldn't have had the heart to use her idol's guitar without coming to terms with a lot of things first.
My favorite headcanon to think about is that the cutscene at the very end, during Tatiana's speech, is of Mayday and Zuke performing after B2J's hiatus, after they both help each other mature and grow up a bit. And Mayday using Kul Fyra's guitar is symbolic of her renewed love in music and taking Tatiana's words to heart - "where I have failed, I want you to go beyond".
Mayday doesn't have any powers unique to herself.
I KNOW, I KNOW - it's kind of UNFAIR since EVERYONE has WORLD BENDING ABILITIES AND WHATEVER. Even Zuke is implied to have inherited DK West's shadow puppets and all, BUT consider THE FOLLOWING....THAT'S THE POINT.....
Every major character in NSR represents a type of musician or figure in the industry - and I'm not sure if it was meant to be read like this or not, but Zuke reads as that type of person who has really good connections with important figures, who had the chance to pursue higher education and afford expensive equipment, who is knowledgeable when it comes to the ins and outs of the industry BECAUSE he was there to see and experience it all firsthand (if we're taking into account the fact that DK West was implied to be a revolutionary activist related to NSR). He's even the one who is the most reluctant to go against NSR and gives them the benefit of the doubt, which can easily be attributed to him being the calm and collected, reasonable half of the duo but also because he personally knows EVE (and DK West if you count him as an important major figure). He's a huge fucking nerd with a degree and it makes sense that he's the one giving ALL the information about the music industry when interacting with all the objects around Vinyl City.
But May? Her dialogue is all about more common things, the way she talks about certain people shows that she knew them personally, that they were friends or acquaintances from all over town instead of the important figures Zuke speaks of. She complains a lot about the fact that from a surface level, NSR does look like a bunch of sellouts and really offers that underdog vibe in B2J. She has NO connections to ANY major character in NSR other than being a fan of Kul Fyra. We know virtually nothing about her backstory too.
So to me it makes sense that Mayday lacks any sort of unique and incredible ability, as she IS part of the little guys that B2J fight for. The underdogs that get brushed aside for whatever reason, because they're not relevant or seen as profitable and so on. She represents the artists who are naive, full of passion for their craft and determination to make their dreams work regardless of how cruel the industry might be.
My personal hot take is that instead of powers and some innate talent, Mayday offers something else: deep connections with people.
This example might not click with everyone since it's how I personally perceived the music and all and I actually know absolutely nothing about music other than It Sounds Good and It Makes Me Want To Dance, but yknow!
When listening to the B2J solos, there are times when Zuke's solo is very aggressive and almost takes over the entire song, which makes sense since it's a solo and they ARE trying to win over EDM. But Mayday's solos blend in so well with the base track of each boss fight, like she really is trying to match their vibe using her own genre rather than fight for the spotlight.
This is most noticeable in Eve's fight - both Zuke and Mayday's solos match Eve's base track perfectly. You can understand why Zuke would match her, since they know each other intimately and when you explore Dream Fever, he's the one giving ALL the in-depth explanations about Eve's vision when creating her sculptures and art. But Mayday would have no reason to match Eve at all, she doesn't understand any of her art let alone know her as a person. And still, the ONE thing Zuke tells Eve at the end of the fight is that if Eve came to know Mayday the way he does, she would like her as well. Zuke is happier being Mayday's friend and bandmate despite the fact that he's Mayday's antithesis, than being part of a big company and records label with his super hot girlfriend.
I like to think that Mayday's solos, the fact that she is Zuke's direct opposite in almost every way, that she's closely tied to the regular people and citizens of Vinyl City and that piece of dialogue from Zuke are a testament to Mayday's ability to really reach out to people through music. Not to say that her power is just friendship, but just the fact that she can adapt and come to understand anyone - as long as it's in a musical setting.
Personally I like it more when Mayday is just a regular girl without unique powers, but you could take these aspect of her and turn them into its own power!

Summer and Raven used Relic of Knowledge's first question (theory)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fact that Jinn is already one question short before RWBY even finds it has always bugged me. In the past 100 years, someone who knew about the relics, was close enough to Ozpin to learn Jinn's name, had access to the Spring Maiden, and wasn't interested in the relic outside of one question had to have been in Haven and used the lamp. The only people who I can possibly think of that match this bill are Oz's (at the time) inner circle: Ironwood, Lionheart, Qrow, Glynda, and Raven.
Raven Branwen, with fresh spring maiden powers, and Summer Rose used the Relic of Knowledge together, causing Raven to completely lose hope in the battle against Salem and Summer to go on a solo-mission that she never returned from.
Raven knows about Ozpin's true past and that Salem is unkillable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is very easy to see just based on how Raven holds herself and how she treats Ozpin. In V5, viewers never had a real reason to distrust Oz, but Raven is laying it on thick. She talks about Oz about the same way that team RWBY does later on in V6, after using the lamp. She dances around telling Yang and Weiss everything she knows during their conversation in V5, but outright tells them that she knows more than she's telling them and to not trust anyone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Raven describes herself learning Oz's secret (the existence of Salem), and then seeking more information beyond that. Raven calls Salem "unstoppable" and "impossible to defeat" repeatedly; she strongly believes that Salem is impossible to kill.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Learning via Jinn that she is impossible to defeat would certainly explain why she so strongly believes this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Raven says that she knows about Ozpin's past. Qrow and the rest of Oz's group all know that he reincarnates, but Raven quite easily offers that up (or at least implies it) to Yang and Weiss, which makes it seem like she knows more beyond that. It's difficult to prove just how much Raven knows about Oz and Salem's past because the viewer isn't supposed to know about it at this point in the story, but Raven seemingly has a lot more information to offer to try and get Yang to stay, so it's likely that she knows at least the broad strokes.
Raven was the Spring Maiden that opened the Haven vault
This requires a bit of a breakdown of the pre-show timeline.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Over a decade prior to the events of RWBY V5, the previous spring maiden ran away. Raven met her soon after and killed her, taking the powers for herself. "Over a decade" is up to interpretation, but assuming that it means somewhere around 13-16 years, it would put Yang at anywhere from 2 to 5 years old. That perfectly lines up with when Summer left.
So, over a decade ago, Raven gained spring maiden powers, and right about the same time, Summer disappeared. It's unclear when exactly Raven cut ties with Oz in relation to this point, but we can safely assume that it was before, because Raven was with her tribe when the previous maiden arrived and she only returned to her tribe after leaving Oz's group.
At this point, Raven might have informed Summer of her powers. It's unclear what kind of relationship they had, but Summer is the only member of team STRQ that Raven has not outright insulted, so it's possible she trusted Summer slightly more than her brother and Tai.
Using those powers, Raven easily could have gotten down to the Haven vault, as she was a trusted members of Oz's group and knew Lionhart, and used the relic.
Mystery surrounding Summer's disappearance
The scene in V7 where Qrow talks about Summer with Ruby has always struck me as odd in a few ways. Ruby poses the question of "What if Summer knew about Salem being unkillable" and Qrow reveals that even Oz wasn't sure why Summer left.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Specific wording is everything in RWBY. Qrow says that Tai and himself were both in the dark about Summer's disappearance, but makes no mention of Raven at all. If your teammate went missing, you'd obviously reach out to your other teammates, even if you were estranged. The choice to not mention Raven here is important because it means theres room for Raven to have not been in the dark. Qrow also points out that theres a lot that Ozpin may have been hiding from them in the same breath as he says they were in the dark, seeding suspicion into the truth of even that statement.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's obvious that Ruby is using Summer as a way to ask Qrow for advice and follow in her mother's footsteps, but I think the choice to have Ruby ask this immediately after Qrow says that Summer leaving was a mystery is significant. Linking the concepts of "what might Summer have done" and "Summer ran away" by having them in the same conversation is intentional.
Summer knew Salem could not be killed
Raven and Salem both directly compare Ruby to Summer when she talks about being able to defeat Salem.
RUBY: We've seen what you're capable of. The lamp showed us. It showed us everything. We've seen that you cant be killed, but we've also seen you fail. We don't have to kill you to stop you. And we will stop you. SALEM: Your mother said those words to me.
The only logical explanation for Summer saying any of that is for her to have used the lamp. Even just "we don't have to kill you to stop you, and we will stop you" wouldn't make sense if Summer was unaware that Salem is unkillable.
RAVEN: There is no "beating Salem". RUBY: You're wrong. We've done things that most people would call impossible and I know the only reason we were able to do it is because we didn't do it alone. We had people to teach us. People to help us. We had each other. Work with us. At least I know we'll have abetter chance if we try together. Please. RAVEN: You sound just like your mother.
Raven's comment also makes little sense if Summer didn't know about Salem being unkillable. However, Summer specifically telling Raven that they should work together to defeat Salem is important because it lends further proof to the idea that Summer and Raven used the lamp together.
However, I can't really explain the leap that Summer made from "work together to defeat Salem" to "leave everyone behind on a solo mission". Summer's motivations are intentionally unclear and I'd bet that these contradicting ideas are going to be important when we eventually learn what happened to Summer.
TLDR;
Raven gained the spring maiden powers over a decade ago and she and Summer used them to open the Haven vault without telling Oz and ask the lamp "What is Ozpin hiding from us", or something similiar. After learning that Salem is unkillable, Raven completely loses faith of Oz and in the fight against Salem and cuts off all ties with their group and her brother. Summer urges Raven to work together to stop Salem before eventually leaving to go confront her and never coming back.

This question just randomly popped up in my mind, do Ana Brays face markings mean anything? If they do, would you please tell me?
Also would you please, give some interesting facts about Ana Bray? Or any lore including the involvement of Ana Bray?
Thank you!
Nothing in particular on her face markings, as far as I'm aware. We know that she didn't have them before becoming a Guardian, which means she put them on at some point after being rezed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her comic (part 3) also further specifies by showing her without the markings during Twilight Gap:
Tumblr media
But the next time we see her in the same comic, when she's hiding after faking her death, she has them:
Tumblr media
Possibly something to help her hide her identity? She also changed her hair style in the meantime. But we don't really know if they have any additional meaning.
One of my favourite Ana Bray facts was the stuff she was doing before she became a Guardian. I love her talking about her profession:
You can lead a machine to language, but you can't make it think. Well, you can't. But I can. My name is Ana Bray. If you want to insult me, call me a neurolinguist.
Not that it isn't a fine and noble profession, but neurolinguistics is about encoding language. I'm a psycholinguist. I study how language can lead to independent thought.
People don't really see her as a scholar and I've even seen people saying she's not smart, but she is absolutely incredibly smart and educated. Her profession is what led her to teaching Rasputin everything she did, in an effort to teach him not just how to speak, but essentially how to feel and think independently by using language as a base.
These are some older lore tabs that were recently reinforced with some extra details in Season of the Seraph. It's a fascinating read into Ana's expertise and thinking and her work that I've rarely, if ever, seen people mention. I linked the first bit up there, the rest in order: 2, 3, 4 and 5. Favourite part:
Military history, he's been fed by the truckload. But then I started in with operas and symphonies. I don't want him just to think about things.
Humans don't communicate strictly through data. We also communicate through art, through expression. If Rasputin is to be the most effective communications device in the Sol system, I want him to feel things.
Ana was incredible as a scientist and once you know how smart and innovative she is, you can kinda see why she always wanted to return to that passion and learn more about her pre-Guardian life. She even says it in the same comic I linked above:
At Twilight Gap, that Fallen gave me the opening I needed to let the world believe Guardian Ana Bray was dead, so that Doctor Anastasia Bray could finally do what needed to be done.
Another interesting and peculiar less known fact is that Ana was very likely a member of the Future War Cult. I kept seeing that being said, but couldn't figure out where it came from so I went to do a little research. Now for start, Future War Cult wasn't all just bad stuff we remember from Splicer; they were founded by Maya Sundaresh herself and have long lasting ties to Golden Age science and experiments. It might be that Ana joined or cooperated with FWC with that connection to the Golden Age in mind; Ana always knew who she used to be and always wanted to learn more about it. FWC could've been an early attempt to find out.
Back in Destiny 1, there was a mission that had Lakshmi sending you to Twilight Gap as part of the quest to get the exotic No Time To Explain. The quest involved a lot of different missions and included artifacts from Praedyth and Pujari, but also Ana Bray; they were artifacts manipulated by the Vex and time, with links to death. The artifact found at Twilight Gap was Ana's bracelet:
Tumblr media
Upon returning to Lakshmi with it, she says:
Tumblr media
Interesting! She is not only familiar with this, but she also says that the FWC inner circle will be grateful that the artifact has been "returned," sort of implying that it has been there before, with Ana. I wouldn't say it conclusively proves that Ana was a member, as the FWC may have been interested in the artifact purely for research purposes; the quest itself delves into researching artifacts that were pulled from time; Ana's bracelet may have been pulled because of the connection to No Time To Explain and Elsie. It's an interesting quest, if anyone wants to see it in its entirety, link to the only full playlist I could find is here.
Either way, it's a neat little tidbit from the past. I can definitely see Ana exploring FWC for potential links to not just her personal past, but also for the Golden Age in general.

btw, if you liked my post analysing just the magnet "holsters" in Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles, I'm eventually gonna post more outfit description/analysis! just cuz I've already been writing some longer descriptions for a while now - that's one of my fave things to research and write about, since it can be good art reference for my own drawings, and especially since I can go through the episodes looking for anything new to write down or connect :)
Also, thank you so much for the replies on my post! LOVING the reactions I'm seeing on it, I didn't expect this to do numbers at all but I'm pleased people enjoy reading me ramble about details in a show I like haha xD I don't usually get replies on my other fandom posts, so this is very surprising, even here. I'm touched!
Replies below! :)
Tumblr media
@ranarenee - I already replied to you on the original post, but I genuinely just wanted to feature this comment cuz I'm glad ppl are having a positive reaction to this post xD
Tumblr media
I also think it was probably a bit easier to animate them! in addition, because it provides an interesting change of technology in the world of Usagi Chronicles, it means that it might have become more interesting to design this hypothetical descendant-world. I'm sure they might have also just thought it was an interesting and unique element of what they were making, but from Art Director Khang Le and Stan Sakai's CBCC interview, and the SDCC@ Home 2021 panel I remember it was mentioned a few times how many clever things they found to make the production spending smaller on the more trivial things.... so the magnetic holsters feels like a thing that might have hit many birds with one stone, so-to-speak. You have the easier drawing of boards and maybe a few things made lighter for the 3D crew (no extra models or rope to animate, for example), but you also have a pleasing design element to give the main fighters in the cast - Usagi, Gen and Chizu - as well as other characters who would happen to wear weapons on their person aside from Karasu-Tengu. Like mentioned in the post, Kitsune is an interesting exception here, because of course, she's based on UY Kitsune who is also not a direct fighter or anything, but also, the world of SR appears to be at peace of some sort, and it's mentioned several times that there were wars at some point, so not many ordinary citizens of Neo would even have these unless they wanted to use or carry weapons every day. Kitsune wants to blend in with this ordinary citizenry and does so quite well.
I just thought of this today and I guess my post sort of mentioned it, but this existence of the magnets also seems to imply some hierarchy of income or money flow. Kitsune doesn't have any because she doesn't need them and she wouldn't spend money she doesn't have on them anyway. Chizu is Lady Fuwa's favourite student despite how she treats her - and gets the best undercover gear, so like Gen and Usagi, custom magnets. I suspect also that Chizu deliberately somehow got herself assigned to the temple-job (headcanon for now), or perhaps hoped it would be something like that, because she didn't want to get any of the more victim-heavy missions the Neko Ninja do. Gen obviously has spent his own money on the holsters and they are there out of pure practicality - can't be a bounty-hunter without wepons, can you? So the magnets seem more like they're ordinary but custom for the outfit. And Usagi, as discussed before, possibly inherited them because of the clan mon adorning the inlay of the magnet.
@kinokothere - thank you!! I will probably continue making posts like this even if I have no audience! why I made this blog at first was to collect my SRTUC fandom theories and drawings under a more organized platform compared to twitter, where this specific fan-account started. I now write almost explusively about SRTUC so you can bet I have way fewer notes than if I wrote about shipping or something else popular for example xD
Tumblr media
Thank you @0yasumi-0-ya-su-mi! it's a fun little world-building detail that I really liked when I started wtaching and I hope other fans also include it more in their work x3
Tumblr media
@umhuhwellthen x3 thank you!! i love seeing reactiong tags like this one!

Heresy and Knightfall
This one is not gonna be a theory, more of a thoughts based on assumptions about Knightfall I made in previous theories. I won't reference them here, feel free to check them out if you are interested.
Interesting thing with Jaune's Joan of Arc is that he is a heretic. Not in a literal sense of the word, more of in context of Joan of Arc and being a huntsman in Remnant.
JAUNE THE HERETIC
His first major heresy is his enrollment at Beacon. He wants to become a huntsman without having any knowledge or abilities required to do so. Yet, he does it anyways thanks to his forged transcripts that made him out to be skilled fighter. This is double heresy, both in universe, as well in context to Joan of Arc.
It's obvious that you shouldn't be apply for position of responsibility without any qualifications, especially when that position requires you to save and protect others. In Joan context, Jaune's minimal qualifications are straightforward reference to Joan being given role in military despite her having no combat experience.
Difference which makes Jaune heretical here is that Joan was given that role because she managed to convince her superiors she had divine visions that might help them in battle (or at least, at multiple occasions she convinced them her visions were not demonic or heretical). If Joan applied to lead relief army to Orleans while completely winging it, she too would have been a heretic.
____________________________________________________________
There are some other instances of Jaune being a heretic, but are either not heresy in universe or not major enough. Yeah, Jaune going on revenge quest to kill Cinder is fairly heretical when you think about it in context of Joan of Arc, but completely justified in universe. Nobody gave a shit when Blake and Yang murdered Adam, I sincerely doubt Jaune's friends would have freaked out if he murdered Cinder. You also have some minor naughty bits like Jaune suggesting stealing Atlas military airship. Yeah, you really shouldn't steal things, but circumstances required them to do so.
_____________________________________________________________
Second major heresy involves Jaune's mercy kill on Penny. This is once again double heresy. Joan of Arc at no point in her military career did murder anyone, despite carrying a sword. This doesn't translate literally to RWBY since existence of Grimm forces main cast to kill all the time, and Jaune doesn't have some hard "no killing" rule for it to translate to villains (he went straight for the head when he had a chance against Cinder). So they translated this to even bigger taboo of Jaune being forced to kill his friend.
I'd say this is intentional Joan of Arc reference/subversion. They could have had someone else kill Penny, Weiss for example would have been much more personal choice, yet they chose Jaune. This wasn't even necessary for turning Jaune into a mess he was in Ever After. The fact Penny died because he couldn't save her would have broke him either way (for example, Penny killing herself). Yet, they ended up going for an option that puts Penny's blood directly on Jaune's hands.
If you dissect for any other detail or reference, this incident can be read as another heresy. During the Joan of Arc's heresy trial, she was trialed for crowning a King (this was to delegitimize Charles VII coronation by implying he was given power by heretic instead of God). Jaune's act of killing Penny gave Maiden power to Winter, and as I explained many times before, Maidens are royalty. He effectively "crowned a king" with heretical act.
MANY JUDGES OF JAUNE ARC
Of course, actions have consequences, Jaune's are not an exception. Cardin realized Jaune forged his transcripts and used it as blackmail material. Cardin is extremely on the nose reference to Cardinal of Winchester, one of the interrogators during Joan's heresy trial (even more on the nose when team CRDL is team Cardinal). The fact Jaune was a fraud is also catalyst to Ren lashing out against him during the Volume 8.
Interesting thing is that the ones judging Jaune in both instances were on his side faction wise (yeah Cardin is piece of shit, but at the end of the day he is fighting against Grimm and Salem). I suspect this trend will continue when it's eventually revealed Jaune was the one to kill Penny. No matter the reason, the fact one of their friends killed the other is not gonna sit well with everyone. They didn't pull this trigger when Ruby and Jaune had a falling out in Volume 9, which makes me think they are saving this for something big.
JAUNE IS... RIGHT?
Weird thing with Jaune's instances of heresy is that his actions end up being justified in a long run.
Yeah, applying to join huntsmen academy when you don't even know what Aura is and pretending you know what are you doing while people's lives are on the line is kind of dick move. But through his hard work Jaune indeed became full blown huntsman with one of the most useful Semblances in entire verse. Removing Jaune from the plot would cause a butterfly effect that would negatively impact the odds of good guys winning.
Same thing with some minor instances mentioned above. Yeah, going on a revenge quest to kill Cinder is probably not the most morally sound idea, but it worked out in the end. Even ignoring all the instances his presence was somewhat useful, his encounter with Cinder was a catalyst that lead him to realize his worth and helped him to fully unlock his Semblance. Stealing Atlas military airship is not morally right, but you do need to reach Atlas somehow. Without that, they'd have much harder time reaching it and making difference in Volumes 7 and 8.
His mercy kill on Penny is another similar case. Yeah, killing your friend is not cool thing to do, however, when you think about it, it was overall net positive decision (disclaimer: don't kill your friend). Without Jaune killing Penny and letting her have a choice in passing Maiden power, Weiss and Winter would have both immediately died and Penny and Jaune would have likely died in the aftermath.
Jaune's morally questionable decisions positively drive the plot forward and allow his character to grow.
KNIGHTFALL IS HERESY
Well, this is self explanatory, thank you for reading..
Knightfall is indeed a heresy, very interesting heresy, but one nonetheless. I consider it to be plausible ending of Jaune's and Cinder's character arc, although not particularly likely at the moment (especially since show itself is kind of stuck in limbo).
My reasoning here is that it fits what to me seems like a running trend with Jaune's heresies: act needs to be questionable, condemnation comes from his side and Jaune is right in the long run. At the end of the day this is arbitrary and based on observations I made above. However, this to me feels like a good criteria, to have Jaune be morally questionable but never cross the line into villainy. After all, Joan of Arc was falsely accused heretic.
If you remove the first criteria, then it's not really heresy and his friends are picking on him for no reason. If you remove the other, then you just end up in "Blake and Yang murder Adam" situation (technically morally wrong, but justified). And if you remove the last one, then Jaune is just committing morally questionable acts (and he ends up feeling like Ironwood).
____________________________________________________________
Does Jaune need another heresy to commit? This is once again arbitrary, but I'd say yes.
While extremely important to his character, Penny incident aftermath is not resolution to Jaune's character arc. In fact, as seen in Volume 9, even though it was right thing to do, Jaune hits another character low point. I feel like whatever final heresy Jaune commits it will be resolution to his character arc, finally becoming a hero his own way and ending his self worth issues.
It also comes relatively too early. This might sound bit weird since it happened in climax of Volume 8, but I feel like whatever his final heresy is, it's gonna happen near the climax of story itself. Think about Ruby for example and repeated motif of wolves in her story. She has Beowulf in her backstory, she has Cinder as a wolf that tricked her and "ate" her friend, she has Hound as spiritual family member (since he is also silver eyed) getting devoured by Grimm. However, none of these feel like a final wolf. Ruby's final wolf likely being either grimmifed Summer Rose or her grimmified self. I feel the same way with Jaune, that there is another major heresy down the line.
____________________________________________________________
What was I yapping about before? Right... Knightfall. Sidenote, when I say Knightfall in my posts I consider both platonic and romantic versions. I tend to lean towards romantic interpretations mostly due to various literary references and themes.
As I said above, Knightfall is heresy of highest order. Hero redeeming the villain that completely broke him. That's what makes it appealing to me and why it seemingly fits with Jaune's previous heresies.
Is it morally questionable? Kind of, you are letting one of the main villains off the hook and are willing to give her a second chance. If they end up playing Joan of Arc reference straightforward and Jaune ends up giving Cinder Crown of Choice, then that's magnitudes more questionable.
Would he face backlash from his side? Absolutely. Pretty much every major character was hurt in some way by Cinder. Once again, if he ends up giving her Crown, then it gets considerably worse.
Is it good in a long run? Yes, it is. Not only do they deny Salem one of her most powerful assets, they gain new powerful ally. Ally that is finally able to break free and make her own choice, completing her character arc. Jaune is also able to triumph in his own way by "weaponizing" his kindness.
_____________________________________________________________
Those were some of my thoughts on Jaune's heresies and how Cinder could fit in them in the end. Of course this is all purely speculative and could end up meaning nothing. Maybe there will be completely different event down the line that fits heresy motif. Maybe these are all just coincidences and writers are winging it, who knows.
Either way, what are your thoughts? Feel free to comment if you have your own interpretation of Jaune's heresy. That's all for today.

I always get so confused when I see pro-Elains say they want her with Azriel because they want her to have a choice. Well having a choice implies there are multiple options, right? Azriel is not the only person in existence! Besides, Elain might be physically attracted to Azriel, but she barely knows anything about him. Us as the readers barely know anything about him. But we know a ton about Lucien who has been there from book 1 and, considering everything we know about Elain, they’re perfect for each other! Don’t they want Elain to make an informed decision, and ultimately the right decision for herself? I also get irritated when I see that some people want her and Azriel to be a spy duo because Elain showed some ability to keep secrets, but so did Lucien! Lucien was implied to not only be a courtier and emissary but often play spymaster for Tamlin. Ultimately, though, Elain’s talents lie in making relationships with people, just like Lucien. Not spying like Azriel. They keep trying to turn her into something she’s not and then get mad when we say we want Lucien to be happy! And don’t they get that Sjm loves the reluctant lovers trope? There hasn’t been a single endgame couple that started off with both sides being totally obsessed with each other.
I agree with everything you said. And you're right, in book 1 Feyre wonders if "emissary" also means being "spymaster" because Lucien has contacts in other courts that provide him with information. So really, any career headcannon they have for E/riel, Elucien could also provide but the difference is Lucien doesn't use violent means to obtain his information which I think Elain would prefer. And yeah, Lucien was made Elain's mate for a reason. Could that reason be nothing more than strong offspring as Rhys theorized? (that wasn't even confirmed, he was just taking guesses). But I do think when something as important as a mating bond is given to two characters, it's important for all parties involved to make sure rejecting it is for the right reasons. Lucien probably can't move on for good until he knows for sure that he and Elain won't work out. And Elain can try to ignore Lucien for now but what's going to happen if she ends up with Az and continues to be drawn to Lucien at inopportune moments? What happens when Elain's mind drifts and Az becomes worried if she's thinking about him? I think if two characters are meant to reject their bond it's only fair to everyone that they know for sure it's what they want and they can't know that it's what they want until they actually interact with one another. The choice argument continues to have me shaking me head. When has any character in any fantasy series really had a choice in their destiny and how often was their endgame love interest truly their choice from the start? Discovery of Witches and Once Upon a Broken Heart minor spoilers to follow: For example, Diana (the FMC in the DoW series) spent her entire life trying to avoid her magic, she wanted nothing to do with it. But she did not have a choice when circumstances made it impossible for her to ignore her magic any longer. It was also not initially her choice to be with the MMC that she ended up with. She was actually a bit fearful and uncertain of him in the beginning and yes, he become her choice early on in the series but if you based things off their first meetings then it's clear he wasn't her choice then. In the Once Upon a Broken Heart series, the MMC was not the FMC's choice until well into the series. She met him yet still chose others before ending up with him. And most of what happened to her in the book wasn't her "choice." She was often used as a pawn in others schemes. So people claiming Elain deserves a choice more than anyone are forgetting that Feyre had almost all her choices taken away from her. She only ended up with Rhys in the NC because she was forced to leave the human lands for Prythian, fell in love with Tamlin which ended with her being forced to compete in the three trials, then ended with her being forced into the bargain with Rhys. Otherwise she would not have seen him each week which eventually led to him being what she considered a safe place for her to go.
Had Nesta not been forced into the Cauldron then eventually forced into training with Cassian, it would not have opened the door to them reconnecting during training, which eventually led to her accepting their bond. But somehow Elain deserves to be the only sister who gets to pick everything that happens to her? Somehow she's the only one who shouldn't be forced into anything or used in any schemes to further the plotline? SJM loves her endgame pairings but I'll say it again (as I've said in other posts), there is no endgame without that endgame furthering the plot along. Feysand ended up together and they saved Prythian during the war. Nessian ended up together and as a result, they changed Illyrian history. SJM can easily write it so that in Elain's book, Elain's character is set up to help their world which puts her in the direct path of Lucien which eventually leads to her making the choice to being with him.
Characters are allowed to change their minds as they grow and mature and that means Lucien can still be her choice in the end, regardless of the events that came before.

🔥 for either S&B or video game of your choice
Unpopular S&B opinions, eh? 😁
Probably most of them, honestly, since I've not read the books and therefore have no particular attachments to how things are in them.
But while opinions vary in a crossover fandom as big as this, I can't think of many that are more unpopular than being 100% cool with the show throwing Tolya in with the Crows, including the hints at a little something with Inej (and Kaz??). Honestly, I think the whole thing might be a genius move, and as of now, I'm not the least bit worried that it will lead to some convoluted love triangle bullshit.
Even Tolya's implied possible book canon aroaceness doesn't feel like an issue to me. I mean, I'm very much on both of those spectrums myself and I actually did kind of vibe with show Tolya on that level even before learning about that one line in the books that hints at it. I mean... that's Lewis Tan. He could have brought hella smolder to the screen. Instead, Tolya just had the absolute safest, warmest, chillest vibes, and his interest in Inej feels very much based on respect and admiration. It makes sense to pair him with Inej, who comes with plenty of trauma and complication and would not be well-suited for virtually anyone else. Especially since Kaz, her first choice, is clearly not ready to be what she wants him to be yet.
And I mean, personally... I might never have been in love and be generally perfectly content without a romantic/sexual relationship, but if I ever find someone I really click with, I'm not going to be mad about it, am I? Why would he be? I understand that we're not all the same and that some of us would like to see the kind of representation where a character has zero interest in any kind of even remotely romantic or sexual entanglement, but... since it's a spectrum, we are not all the same, so no matter what, no aspec representation will ever be able to represent all of us.
And then there's the part where at least a part of the fandom seems to be mad about this because they view Inej as Kaz's exclusive property. Which... is pretty mind-boggling to me, all things considered, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised. These attitudes die hard. But like... isn't it better if she goes be free for a while, grows and heals and finds herself for a bit, and then eventually returns to Kaz of her free will with a new Crow in tow? Would you rather she stick around out of guilt and duty and wallow in an unhappy, currently unresolvable situation?
I understand very well that book fans are attached to how things are in the books, but this has been a different story from the beginning, hasn't it? And I repeat: Tolya could be the best thing that ever happened to show Kanej. Not a threat but a possibility. I mean it.

@korla-the-kenku:
As yet unsent is the short story that takes place in the middle of the book
Oh, is this going to explain what Camilla and Corona and Judith were doing on that random planet?
@wellhappybirthdaytomeiguess:
So it’s implied I think that Pyrrha always made sure her eyes were not seen when she took over Gideon’s body. For example, when she was dallying with Wake-in-Cytherea, she never turned around to face Harrow…
Sure, but Harrow spoke face-to-face with both of them during and after the incinerator incident, and she would have noticed if their eyes had changed, wouldn't she?
@eye-lantern:
I think the packet Pyrrah mention is the one with the cigarets. There is a theory about Gideon not smoking, and that every time he does, it's Pyrrah. It would explain his nod after the diner where he got exploded.
That would make sense based on the fact that Pyrrha was the one who smoked, but I don't think there's enough information right now to say that Pyrrha would have done that little nod but Gideon wouldn't have. Like, I don't know. Gideon was only around for this one book, and for the most part we don't know for sure which things they did were him and which were Pyrrha, and for most of the book they were acting under orders from John anyway, and they both seem like they'd kind of be don't-rock-the-boat kind of people. I'm assuming Pyrrha gets more development in the next book, but do we ever get a good sense of what kind of person Gideon was? And if that was Pyrrha, then I think the other Lyctors would definitely have noticed the eye color change if there was one
@wellhappybirthdaytomeiguess:
The passage about the fight between little Gideon and little Harrow reminds me how, despite how unlikeable Harrow is in Gideon, how miserable her life has to be to contemplate suicide at ten years old. :-(
Yeah. And the way Gideon is talking about it there, it sounds like maybe she is feeling guilty that she might have made Harrow feel that way because of what she said
I THINK the bit at the end with Harrow in the tomb is intended to imply she is putting herself in the same place where Gideon spent time in her mind. And she knows the magazine isn’t real because she knew the mags Gideon got. She talked at one point about them being really bad. Methinks she protests too much :-p
Why would the Tomb feature in this fantasy, then? Or is it just sort of the implication that Gideon hanging out in her head for the whole book added some stuff to Harrow's mental space, or something like that?
@racefortheironthrone:
@wellhappybirthdaytomeiguess Regarding the magazines, I've seen a couple different theories, all involving Harrow secretly perusing them under the guise of some official function: one theory is that Gideon was getting the mags via tampering with requisition letters and that Harrow was aware of it and signed off of the titles anyway, another theory is that Harrow regularly searched Gideon's cell and would just "confiscate" the stuff under her mattress, etc.
A+ theories, I love it
@wandering-minx:
Re John's eye color in the 21st century. It actually has an explanation in Nona. Re: Harrow's knowledge on dirty magazines there is a theory about how she could have this knowledge but it deals with spoilers from "The Unwanted Guest" short story to be read after Nona.
Ok, cool, I'll be interested to get to that
@eye-lantern:
Also yeah the dramatis personae from Nona is the key change that while it is still the same song, you are going to see a lot of new things
I can't wait for this, either. I know I've seen a few different names that looked BOE-like, but the only specific one I can remember right now is Hot Sauce

Let's talk about Caitlin Ryan!
When I watch Degrassi Junior High, I remember falling hopelessly for Rick and Caitlin. I know everyone loves jaitlin, myself included, arguably the stronger power couple that ended oddly. Most fans kind of forget about them who are short-lived Klareesque, but I'm not surprised. I saw some old jaitlin just a few minutes on my dash, and it got me thinking.
Would it be controversial to say that Clare with KC is the equivalent of Caitlin and Rick and Claudr, similar to Eli, I guess that would make Drew a bit of Joey? Not really the same but if I could I would say and suspect, now correct me if this is too hot of a take, but early Caitlin and Rick are espys for Sean and Emma, respectively apart and together perhaps their entire relationship is based on them retooled and tweaked for a "new generation" but the similarities are there.
It might be a stretch, but consider this! There was a throwaway line by adult!Lucy in 2.12 white wedding part 1, "when are you going to add a mini Spike and mini Snake to mini Caitlin over there?" Implying Emma is similar to Caitlin back in the day or coded Caitlin is intentional.
The facts are both are environmentally conscious, trope of granola girl, the girl has a big mouth and can't mind her own business or stay in her lane, crusades and causes, controversial editorial pieces that manage to ruffle feathers and a pechant for bad boy characters. Joey was more a funnyman musician type but he wasnt Mr. Academics had trouble in school, could fall into the bad boy category, and was held back a grade in high school.
For example of a similar thing, Caitlin fought for Spike to stay at Degrassi while she was ironically pregnant with Emma when the school was intending to expel her with added pressure from pta, angry parents, and school board. Who would've thought that Caitlin would be this influence on her years later. Emma was shown to know exactly who she was and even liked her and sought her (bad) advice. Emma similarly wrote that nak editorial, which offended Sean’s brother and let's not forget about the vicious rumor Emma accidentally started and then humiliated herself and Liberty. There is alot to unpack with that such as seeing Armstrong and Liberty could've triggered her trauma regarding Jordan (the pilot love interest who was a pedophile predator) she is suspect of an adult being close and hands on with a teenager no matter how preposterous it all manifested.
Sean is a similar character to Rick, but somewhat similar to Craig, too, with the whole childhood abuse thing. I do suspect that this was intentional. Joey, too , is so instrumental in the season 2 opener with this plot point, and Craig's introductory plot makes a lot of sense, such as the whole thing with Rick and Craig. It also makes a logical writing sense kind of way with Sean cut from similar cloth to both Craig in the universe and his espy Rick Munro.
Semma though similar or based on Rick and Caitlin, right down to the end of Caitlin and Rick's relationship when he took up smoking cigarettes implied deviant behavior, similarly in dtng Sean was hanging with the deviant, "gangsta", Candy Bandits became his new friends and it pretty much ended Sean and Emma’s relationship in the third season.
In degrassi junior high, after the split Rick was sent to the Bermuda black hole after making him a satelite love interest territory, and of course, we see Caitlin later was paired with Joey, who was arguably a leading man in comparison. They shared a lovely relationship after that with major build up and were upgraded to power couple status, and we know the rest. Caitlin also dated the mysterious, environmentally conscious dark horse Claude who is arguably a bit more Eli Goldsworthy coded for a host of reasons which of course ended badly in more ways than one, and Caitlin and Joey got back on track after their split and Claude's untimely death by suicide. Caitlin felt guilty for the entire thing if I remember correctly and was comforted by Joey. If I remember right, I think this is what Claude had wanted, to hurt Caitlin for hurting him for not accepting his affections after their break up and moving on from him. Remember when Eli manipulated Clare in the conclusion of season 10 when he famously hit the wall inside Morty for the sole purpose of destroying the car for Clsre spelled the end of their initial relationship as we know it, was essentially a near death experience. Eli survived and manipulated Clare, and she finally left him after distancing herself, and then Eli did what he did. But they kind of subverted that a little bit obviously, but I think that was perhaps an initial plan.
So obviously Cailin has main character energy, similar to Emma her closest espy, Clare Edwards and perhaps even Maya Matlin, who are similarly cut in the same or similar cloth if there were some venn diagram there'd be quite significant overlap. Drama always follows for better for worse with these ladies. No stranger to drama, both in romance and friendships across the board.
It's kind of weird, though. Adult Caitlin is certainly aside from her rekindled relationship with Joey, a big ol' mess, and there is a lot to unpack with that. At this point, pretty heavily, it's implied she'd been through the ringer romantically (1.01 Mother Child Reunion). She is successful in her career, and it is a barrier for her. lkve glr her and mayve shes not over the her high school sweetheart and their ill fated engagement to her former flame joey who now is a widower with a child at this point in tjme working as a used car salesmen with a taxky commercial. Caitlin, as we know, began the "rebooted revival" series engaged to be married to an awful director, Keith, who had a wandering eye (Allison) and was condensending toward pretty much all of Caitlin's friends.
While Caitlin and Joey ended in a bittersweet fashion, (thanks alot Kevin Smith! </sarcasm) Caitlin resumed her career and ultimately left the series. When Caitlin eventually resurfaces in season 7's Jesse's Girl, where she hooked up with her mentees boyfriend, who is ironically named Jesse. Honestly, awful decision by the writers, and a disservice to her character who'd been around since the 1980's.
I can't believe Caitlin is the kind of woman who would get pissed at a boyfriend over cigarettes or vices when she was written to do something like that. Jesse was, at the very least, 10 or so years her junior. Cougar!Caitlin on the prowl isn't exactly what I expected to see for her future, and not really a flex for her character, a huge nosedive if you want to talk a fall from grace.
So there you have it. That's how I see it anyway.

Pokemon Team Characterization - Carmine
Look, I knew I was going to do this the instant I saw she had a Vulpix. Also I think Carmine might have accidentally become my favorite ScarVi character. Oopsie doodles, I guess. It's been a while since I've done one of these, so for the unfamiliar, this is where I look at the trainer's team and talk about how their team composition and move selections inform their character. Carmine being a favorite, I of course hold many opinions.
Tumblr media
I'm sticking with just her final team. Reason being, her team never changes. Interestingly she has Vulpix at the start, drops it in your second battle and all quest battles, but picks it back up for the finale. Morpeko and Sewaddle show up in the battle where Vulpix leaves instead. I don't have anything profound to talk about on that which can't be talked about in the larger analysis, so with that!
The Lead (Mightyena) Mightyena as a lead means Intimidate. This can be seen as mostly a competitive move; lead Intimidate is frequent in the series. But I think it says a little more regarding Carmine, and the specificity of "Why Mightyena?" It's not exactly super tough as a Pokemon.
Carmine, in her entirety, operates off the difference between how she presents, and how she actually is. The impression she projects is one of strength and severity, but the core of her person is...fairly soft. When she opens up to the player, she's able to act as her genuine self, which involves some pretty silly photos taken together while searching for the masks. A big fluffy hyena-dog that can snarl real nice and seem scary is the perfect entry to this idea. There's intimidation, but if you can get past that, the rest is pretty easy to handle. Not that she'll make it easy. Play Rough belies a tendency to be a bit critical and, dare I say, nasty at times? She does openly mock you if you use a not-very-effective attack. But she can come around. I think Howl emphasizes her straight-forward nature. It's one stat getting buffed, and it's attack. No frills, just straight to the point.
The major change of its set is going from Take Down to Sucker Punch. Take Down deals recoil, and implies a certain...self-sabotage. Meanwhile Sucker Punch is taking initiative, and getting ahead of things. Something between her first fight and last fight changed, and altered her mindset to go from a self-defeating one, to one of taking charge.
The Ace (Sinistcha) Sinistcha's defining feature is double status. Stun Spore with paralysis, Scald with a chance to burn. Both play into Hex, which doubles in power if the foe is afflicted, while Matcha Gotcha absorbs HP based on damage dealt. Operating together, I think this shows Carmine as someone who is most in control when others are put down. I don't mean that to imply she's nasty, more that she is someone who is avoidant toward the possibility of losing, or facing someone stronger. She won't fight as directly, especially if she can't win. She'd rather hinder what people can do to threaten her, than push herself. The Occa Berry is an interesting choice as well. There are other weaknesses Sinistcha has, but it's specifically Fire, the threat of being burned, that she worries about. She's guarded.
But at the same time...Hospitality. This is the last Pokemon on the team, and its ability emphasizes healing of a battle partner. In singles, this does nothing. But in doubles, it implies the sense that if she feels you have her back, she'll have yours. She'll take care of people she feels comfortable around.
Care and Control (Leavanny and Ninetales) Leavanny, and prior to this, Swadloon, are an interesting addition to the team. For those not familiar with the Pokelore, Leavanny knits leaf clothes for Sewaddle and Swadloon, with Swadloon being completely bundled up within them. The decision to have Swadloon at first is, I think, the sense of self-protection. Swadloon's set even focuses on speed control through Sticky Web and Trailblaze. Its appearance in her second fight is revealing. Sticky Web is playing to her team's general structure of disrupting the opponent, but Trailblaze is setting out to do something new and different, and its function is building herself up.
By the time it's Leavanny, she's now focused on attack, emphasizing that direct nature. But Fell Stinger is an interesting choice, given X-Scissor's presence. This move boosts attack by 3 if she lands a KO. I think this speaks, generally, to Carmine's confidence. Despite the outward appearance of someone so confident she seems arrogant, internally there's an anxiety around being shown she's not as strong as she thinks. When the player wins, she seems genuinely upset at the loss, but not in an outburst way like Ortega, or even a truly disappointed way like Hop. Like something's been revealed that she wish hadn't been. She doesn't like that she can't be as strong as she presents. Fell Stinger implies the sense that, when she meets with success, she responds well to it. There's an excitement to seeing something pay off, and it suggests she focuses on those shots of reinforcement. There's no reason to carry two Bug moves, but she wants to feel that sense of accomplishment.
By contrast, Ninetales is there at the start, leaves, and comes back. Its moveset does not change. It is the only Pokemon that does not change a single move, and includes Will-o-Wisp, and Disable. Moves for disruption. Specifically, cutting the damage she receives, and removing attacks she doesn't like. Flamethrower is the obvious offensive move, but Extrasensory is an unusual choice. By coverage, the best pick is Energy Ball; Grass hits all of Fire's weaknesses super-effectively. Extrasensory is interesting because it's a naturally learned move that has flinch. Again, disruption. But also, Ninetales only knows moves it can learn naturally. This also true of Leavanny and Mightyena. I think this focus on what's learned naturally is reflective of her attachment to her home. Carmine cares about Kitakami as it is, and concerns herself with allowing others to visit sacred areas, or the degradation of culture to tourism. Maintaining a sort of natural essence seems important to her.
Double Sided (Morpeko) But at the same time, Carmine operates on multitudes. On the one hand, she cares deeply about the preservation of Kitakami's culture. But on the other, by the end of it all, she's come around to having people visit. On the one hand, she's intense and critical, but at the same time genuinely does care. Morpeko's form shift shows both sides, with Focus Sash being the near guarantee. To really understand Carmine, you have to understand both sides, and its moveset further reflects this.
On the one hand, disruption through Thunder Wave. On the other, building herself up through Aura Wheel. Both sides coexist within Morpeko. It's interesting to note that, as one of two that have TMs, one of the moves she taught it? Lash Out. Dealing greater damage when stats are lowered. When shaken, when threatened, she'll react strongly. At her core, she's reactive, and responds to perceived slights or injustice with an intense retaliation.
Summation Carmine's team suggests someone who is, at once, presenting as entirely collected while avoiding her shortcomings being known. She operates on a reactive, defensive approach; disrupting opponents and preventing them from getting too close to the core of her personality. She thrives off of seeming superior, but genuinely does light up at her accomplishments, and lives for the satisfaction of success. While initially fully avoidant, by the end of the DLC, she's come around to trying to work on improving herself, but likely still has trouble letting go of frustrations with setbacks and fear of failure.
If you have a different read on the team, I'd love to hear it. As mentioned, she kinda accidentally became my current favorite of ScarVi, so I'm very up for discussing her character.

i see a lot of disagreement about whether cece (i've seen some people spell this as cici but idk which is right sorry) is implied to be six or raincoat girl from VLN, and i wanted to defend the six one a bit.
"the raincoat did not originally belong to six, so otto's recognition of it means that he might have known rcg or a previous owner of the raincoat"
this is a good point, but i think that the ties to six are more prominent with what we have so far. i find the specificity of the dialogue interesting too. upon noone mentioning that she saw a "yellow raincoat" on one of the mannequins, otto perks up at the mention of yellow, not a raincoat. this leaves more ambiguity, it's possible six just is a fan of yellow. maybe that's why she gravitates toward duck toys, maybe it factors into her wearing the raincoat initially, she is nine after all.
the ferryman
the role the ferryman plays makes me think that the audience is supposed to latch onto a connection to six. "the ferryman" is what the audience knows him as, because we have seen him interact with her. with otto claiming that he is " cece's ferryman,” it feels like a direct reference to the audience's knowledge of the character, which could easily be reflected in universe by our old protagonist.
clothes
this one is less solid and more like speculation, but we don’t really know if six “wakes up” in between nightmares like noone offscreen, or if she accepted the ferryman’s invitation and is permanently trapped in the nowhere. i lean heavily towards the second, hence why this section is just speculation on if the first one is true. we know that the nowhere isn’t just some dream lair, it’s it’s own world that the kids are physically taken to. based on noone describing herself wearing a dress in the first episode, it’s implied that LN kids get taken whatever they are wearing in their realm, the nowhere doesn’t give them a costume switch. if kids don’t get a new wardrobe upon entering the nowhere, who’s to say the new clothes they acquire in it wouldn’t also transfer over when they woke up? noone straight up disappearing in the night implies that the nowhere isn’t too interested in being discreet about kidnapping the kids and changing them either, so i can see this being a defense for the raincoat to be recognized by otto. i don’t actually believe this one much, but it’s fun to speculate.
time
this is actually a good point against the cece = six theory that i haven’t seen mentioned yet, but to me, one of the most chilling reveals in the final episode was that otto is the younger brother. The whole time I expected him to be older, but otto being younger than cece implies that she didn’t just go missing a long time ago, she went missing a LONG time ago. if the six we are used to seeing is still mentally and physically a nine year old, how do we connect her to cece’s age?
my answer would be that i think six is no longer a kid in the nowhere, i think that the podcast/LN3 and any future installments of LN are set after what we have seen so far. i’ve always thought that if a third game was ever made and six made an appearance, she’d be the sixth lady (in terms of power at least), not the version of her we know. six’s arc as a child has concluded by the end of LN1, she’s a part of the nowhere now. narratively, i don’t see a reason for her to be explored further at that stage of life. when noone is in the room with all the mannequins, she notes that they are past victims of the nowhere. and while the raincoat could represent rcg’s death in that context, i think it represents both. six also fell to the nowhere, the ending of LN1 is not happy.
promotional material for LN3 also mentions something “lurking in the shadows” and heavily features a mirror; both of which have been connected to the lady’s powers in the past. this isn’t to say that they 100% are meant to symbolize her, but i think the connection is worth noting when we talk about LN3’s placement in the timeline. i could talk longer about why i think any further appearances of six are likely to be older, but this isn’t about that so i’ll stop yapping.
conclusion
sorry if this is like incomprehensible, i’m used to screaming my LN tangents at my poor non LN fan friends in DMs and not posting them lol so forgive me for the weirdness. basically i’m still not entirely convinced thar six = cece, but i wanted to defend the theory from people writing it off completely. from the ferryman, the color yellow, the timeline, “six” and “cece” starting with similar sounds, “cecilia”, (which cece is a nickname for) meaning “sixth”, and the fact that the podcast has six episodes, i think the audience is at the very least encouraged to make the connection to six, whether or not it’s a red herring.
