oh my God I'm so fucking embarrassing 💀💀
yesterday I was helping the girl at work load the last big heavy boxes into her trucks and she commented that I could probably take on anyone who tried to start problems with (I am freakishly strong)
and I said "oh no I'm a wimp" which was fine
but before I could stop myself I added "these arms are for giving really good hugs"
💀

It's been along time now but I remember how it felt when I found other fans like me. I'm old enough that it was originally on yahoo groups. Anyone remember that? And then livejournal and then here. I never felt like I got to know people that well here, just cause of the nature of it I guess. But I remember feeling like... wow, there are people like me. And at the heyday of lj... there was a time I had friends that were always there. Anytime of day or night really. Wanting to chat, about our fandom or anything.
Anyway, I guess back then it all seemed kinder. Sure, there were always other fans that disagreed and fandom skirmishes. But even so I never felt... the way I do now. And it's silly, really. Cause I wouldn't even say I'm actually in a fandom per se.
But the times I do interact, I always used to try to write in a way that was reasonable, and not use any kind of personal attack. One too many philosophy classes I guess. I did this for a long time until one day I broke. No one listened anyway, no matter how many facts or lack of personal attacks I avoided. No matter how I tried to argue in good faith I didn't get it back. Such is the internet. So I stopped, I deciced, hey I can be mean too. I can tell people how fucking stupid they are, how little I think of their brain power. I can just be like them. Well, spoiler alert, that didn't make it any better or make me feel better or like i was winning.
Anyway, so here I am. Sad cause of things to do with an actor I'm a fan of but I don't even really consider myself part of the fandom, not like I was part of them in the olden days. Cause, see, I care. That's always been my problem. I take it all too seriously and too personally. And when someone attacks something I care about, I want to defend it. I want to make people see it how I do, or just to ask them to back off. But that doesn't work, it never has. People think it's funny if someone is sad. It's the cruelty of it all. Fandom has become very cruel for all it's lurching towards purity.
I'll delete this soon. These are the days I miss LJ the most. And all my old friends. And even the bad old days of my old fandoms.

If cutting me out of your life is going to help you in any way, do it. I support that. You do what you gotta do for yourself.

I have a thing to get to but had to get this out real quick
EDIT:
okay back from the thing
-it doesn't actually have to be a negative emotion, I have trouble-causing maladaptive responses to positive ones too
-maladaptive responses usually served the purpose of keeping you safe in a tough situation, or were the only response modeled for you, or both, so they're not Inherently Bad they're just not useful in the context of a healthy relationship
-this is a useful thing to keep in mind if you have a bad track record with relationships and therefore come up against a lot of thoughts like "no one likes the real me/my real feelings" and "I am unloveable". it's not your self or your natural feelings that are the issue, it's the way you've learned to behave in response to them (again, because you had to or you don't know any other way!). which sucks, but the good news is you can unlearn those things and practice new behaviors.

it's very disheartening to see that Palestine or Gaza is no longer the highest trending tag on Tumblr so early on in Global Strike week, especially considering how many people have said they still need to work and buy food (100% valid, by the way). don't lose momentum. keep talking about what's happening. keep reblogging and sharing useful resources and information. we need the Palestinian people to know that we see what's happening to them, we care about what's happening to them and we stand with them. Percy Jackson and Tumblr Live are no where near as important as the genocide of Palestinian people.
