Apollo: Researched Phoenix's cases, and knows about it intellectually. Hasn't fully comprehended how insane it is. Trucy: Knows, and it's a meme he can make glass vanish without a trace. Athena: Knows there's a story, but none of the details. Ema: Nobody has told her, for fear of her also deciding to eat glass. Kristoph: Knows about it, but assumes it was an act of phycological warfare. Has spent hours trying to analyze his tactics. Klavier: Knows about it, and refrences it in his hit single. + Iris: Dahlia never told her.

Phoenix has a Rowlet and Miles a Ralts - I love the idea of Phoenix thinking about how adorable it is that Rowlet and Miles match. Also I imagined Gregory giving Miles a Ralts when he was little and now I'm sad. 2. Of course, that's Iris in the 2nd pic. I imagine Phoenix going on and on about his reason for studying law (I mean it would only make sense that he told her - and maybe that's the reason he's so secretive about basically everything after Dahlia's betrayal). So it just made sense to give him Goomy! I just had to give him a Dragon type but also Goomy is perfect for him because he goes from being a weakling to a pretty strong mon (at least in lore). Also from a Pokédex entry about Goodra: 'It loathes solitude and is extremely clingy—it will fume and run riot if those dearest to it ever leave its side.' So yeah, pretty apt I think. Iris has a white Flabebé btw.

3. I was indecisive about the Phoenix + Decidueye combo but drawing them out I think it really, really fits him. Btw the reason it's shiny is just because of the color matching better. 4. I think Gardevoir fits Miles the best but I also want to give him a Kingambit. Have them all drink tea in his office. imagine a Kingambit leisurely drinking tea. I also imagine little Franziska dancing around with a Kirlia when they were younger. And now I'm sad again. I want to draw more about this - definitely some Trucy + Hoopa and Kay + Greninja, and way more Miles!

Symmetrically / Different

[ID: Art of Iris and Dahlia Hawthorne, identical twins. The canvas is perfectly symmetrical, everything the same but flipped on the left side of it. The right side is Dahlia Hawthorne, smiling at Iris while back to back with her sister. The backs of their heads pressed against each other as they lean against the other. Dahlias hair is a lighter ginger, her skin tone ever slightly more warm and she has a mole under her right eye. There is a giant green magatama behind her head, the left side of it slightly covered by the side of her face. The magatama bleeds the same red as the bright red canvas background. Underneath the magatama, there are three neonish green, magatama colour matching, diamond shapes with Dahlias lace dress pattern in them. Two of the diamonds are cut off by the screen. Above the magatama, in the corner, there's more triangles and diamond shape patterns in reds and greens. Towards the middle of the canvas, there's a swirling green coloured to match the magatama, and a red like the blood, love heart that curls in the middle. Iris' side is the same as Dahlias, but flipped. Her expression is upset as she looks at her sister, with pushed in brows and a slight frown. Her hair is more artificially red with dark roots, her mole just below her mouth on the left of her face, and her torso is very slightly thicker than her twins. The poison heart shaped necklace is chained around the two twins, keeping them stuck leaning against each other. The necklace faintly glows, leaking symmetrical tears that turn into blood. /end ID]

Ultimately, I believe ace attorney is a tale about love. How far are you willing to go for the people you love? But also, how far are you going to fall for them? Most of this love is platonic, not even romantic in nature / could or could not be seen as such, but really the crux of the matter is that regardless, it all stems from a place of deep affection and/or adoration. Phoenix both became a better person but sacrificed and risked so much because of love, even compromising his integrity and morality at some point. First love for his lost friend, then love for a girl who made him feel adored, then love for his lost mentor and her sister which he couldn't leave alone, then love for a child he needed to provide for. Miles completely and utterly destroyed himself but later glued back the pieces together in order to become better because he felt guilty for his beloved father's death, and later felt guilty for disgracing his legacy. But also his love for his friends and family gave him courage to make himself better. He charters private jets at the drop of an hat and surrenders his badge and breaks the law if need be. Franziska's love for her father made her ruthless and amoral, but her love for her little brother made her a better person. She assists in his and Phoenix's absurd plan to play at defense attorney, helps save Maya, then assists Miles in his cause for Kay. Lana's love for her sister made her throw her morals out the window, ruining the life of many people. But her love for her little sister also made her realize her mistakes and atone for them. Iris loved her sister despite it all and that corrupted her into betrayal, but she also loved Phoenix, and that gave her the courage to realize her mistakes and atone for them. Love is the reason for most plot points - it leads the storyline. It can cause both positive and negative outcomes and I really appreciate the realism in that. The characters truly care for each other, there's just so much love in AA.

one thing about ace attorney is it's incredibly adept at doomed siblingism. mia and maya. edgeworth and franziska. lana and ema. iris and dahlia (and valerie). misty and morgan. ini and mimi. apollo and trucy. klavier and kristoph. the list is long and each one is utterly gut-wrenching
