Imagine you're a man who married a woman because you thought she was going to inherit lots of money and power, but when you find out she's not getting any of that, you divorce her, take your children and remarry a woman who has a daughter from a previous marriage.

After you giving one of your twins away for some reason, you hire a tutor to teach your daughter and step daughter, but that tutor ends up kidnapping and murdering your daughter.

Then imagine that a few months later your stepdaughter is also murdered and you find out from the court case that the murder was committed by your daughter who actually didn't die but faked her death.

Then imagine your daughter kills two more people and is sentenced to death.

THEN imagine your other daughter (that you may or may not know exists) gets possessed by your dead daughter under the guidance of your ex wife to try to kill your niece, but is stopped by your other niece's boyfriend who murders your sister in law and is helped by your abandoned daughter.

Then imagine throughout all of this, you never make an appearance, utter a line or even have a name.

That is the plot of Ace Attorney Trials and Tribulations, from the perspective of Dahlia's father.

Dahlia: The only person I ever really cared about in life was myself... My sister was a nuisance.

Mia: And that's why you hid your identity?

Dahlia: Yes... I only told my sister. She was the only person left in the world I could count on. She's the only one who knew about me.

Iris: Dahlia was always so smart, so strong... She never complained about a thing.

Dahlia: Naturally, You have the evidence to back it up, don't you? Evidence that I planned the kidnapping... That at 14, I plotted it with Mr. Fawles and my sister.

Iris: That's why I... That's why I promised her that I would help her.

Phoenix: Are you talking about the fake kidnapping case 11 years ago?

Iris: ...Yes. I-I wanted to be useful to her in some way...

Iris/Dahlia: Because my sister always does the right thing.

And to think this all could have been avoided if the Fey's were a functional family. RIP to like... well at least 4 people and good luck to at least 5 others. I guess at least most of the victims were part of the family themselves??? I'd say y'all need family counseling but there's only 3 left and they actually get along... Do you have any favorite murder victim characters that weren’t talked much about or aren’t very popular inside the fandom?

ooh super interesting question! most of the victims don't get talked about all that much it's true

admittedly my favorite victims are ones we actually knew before they were murdered (like Mia) because their deaths have more of an emotional impact. honorable mentions also go to Genshin Asogi and Metis Cykes, who died long ago and who the player never gets to meet, but who still have a very profound impact on the story in the present day.

but as for ones that really aren't talked about, my first thought was Valerie Hawthorne. i know we don't know a whole lot about her, but it's surprising to me how little i hear people talk about her, considering that she's Dahlia and Iris's half-sister and played a very interesting role in Dahlia's story. from what we know, she went along with Dahlia's staged kidnapping and framed Fawles, but then spent the next several years consumed with guilt about it. she'd intended to finally come clean before Dahlia killed her. idk i just think she's a very complicated and interesting character that the fanbase should spend more time thinking about haha

Oh my god I just realized why Valerie lied about Terry Fawles in court!

Cause he was a fucking pedophile. She saw what he was doing to her sister, and wanted him to pay for what he did. Guys, I’m convinced you can find a reasonable explanation for everything weird in Ace Attorney, whether or not it was intended to have one.

Edit: I should add everything weird story-wise because sometimes there’s stuff like characters ages being contradictory and characters accidentally saying each other’s lines, which are just accidental errors so I don’t think need an in-universe explanation.
