Steve saves Bucky from Zola, just to lose him on the train. Their second chance, wasted. Seventy years later, Steve wakes up in the twenty-first century, and he doesn’t know whether to be heartbroken or hopeful when some of the things Bucky revealed to him in 1942 start falling into place.

A gripping read from @potterspink, undoubtedly one of my all time favorites. I’ve revisited this fic over and over again and it is no less satisfying to read each time!

On the process: I knew I wanted to base the design of this binding around a matchbox, and decided to go with Diamond matches. Really liked how it turned out, especially with the striker design on the spine of the book. Had a lot of fun bringing in elements of the story into the slipcase design too, and the slipcase construction was so much simpler and easier than I expected!

I’m quite pleased with the matches marking parts one to three as well, adding a little pop of red that ties everything together. I’m binding three editions of this fic for Binderary so check out the paperback & collector's edition for a more in depth look at the typeset!

Who is a V-Synth you feel deserves more love? For me it's Amy! I think her voice is so pretty, but not many people use her, let alone for original songs

I haven't really been keeping up with all the different SynthV and CeVio voices and such, so while I'm sure there are a lot of really underrated gems there I'm not as familiar with them :( Vocaloid though... that's different, lol! I think Merli is one of the prettiest Vocalsynth designs I've ever seen and her voice is just as nice. I'm also a huge fan of Yumemi Nemu (I drew her a long time ago for a Vocaloid fanzine), LUMi, and the ZOLA PROJECT boys (who recently got new designs! Wil has always been my favorite, and he's so cute now <3)

There are a tooon of VSynths out there though, and I think all of them deserve the world :) It's a lot of work to get a nice voicebank together, after all haha! (<- has been trying and failing to make a UTAU voicebank)

Genuinely curious, why do you hate Peggy so much?

assuming this is about my post about laughing how captain carter died in mom (which i put in the anti peggy tag, not her tag) i really can't stand hayley or peggy at this point. i'm tired of marvel including her in places where she's literally not relevant, when there are like 1000 other marvel women that could be introduced to the mcu.

to preface, i used to adore peggy. she was my favorite marvel character hands down, i had the 'i know my value' quote as my senior quote in the yearbook, religiously watched agent carter, etc. i even met hayley at the first comic con i went to:

i had been so excited to meet her and cosplayed as sharon carter from ca: the winter soldier, and got a photo with her before her panel. (this was like the same month civil war came out) almost the entire panel hayley talked about how steve/sharon was disrespectful and basically did nothing but bash the character i was cosplaying as. i felt really insecure after her panel, and even heard some people make funny comments about my cosplay (while it wasn't hayley's fault that those people were rude to me) but there was no reason to bitch about steve and sharon that much, rather than just talking about what she enjoyed about her own show. it ruined my first con experience <3 she's also said ugly things about emily vancamp/sharon carter at other comic cons. as well as said poc need to 'wait their turn' for representation.

and as far as peggy goes, literally everything about her in the mcu was based on other characters in 616 comics. the writer's of ca: the first avenger talked about how there was barely any source material for peggy and so they took from sharon carter in the comics to flesh her out. peggy is also partially based on the character cynthia glass- who was the agent involved with project rebirth, who steve called his first love, and was also a nazi spy. in 616 (before the mcu changed it) peggy was a blonde chick who fought nazis, and was really just backstory for sharon carter. here's cythia glass compared to mcu peggy:

in the comics, she didn't found shield (she wasn't even a shield agent) nick fury founded shield, she wasn't the love of steve roger's life sharon carter was, and she sure as heck wasn't a super soldier/captain carter. and that's not even mentioning the things that she did in the mcu, she hired zola and other nazis, let them rise to power, and probably knew about shield doing horrible things like they did to isiah bradley and ava starr. and she shot at steve after some woman kissed him?? and what they've given peggy in the mcu has destroyed sharon carter's character in the mcu, when she's been the love of his life in comics for 60 years:

and all of this has led to emily vancamp/ sharon carter fans being treated absolutely horribe by mcu fans. not sure if you know how bad it was when civil war came out, but emily and other fans were both getting death threats because steve kissed sharon. (hayley's comments at comics cons helped fuel this) i even remembered getting hate from other peggy stans bc i simply liked sharon and didn't hate on her. (and i'm not even getting into steve's ending in endgame and how they turned sharon into a villain in tfatws)

tldr, i used to love peggy until i picked up a comic book. she literally had no relevance before 2011. i'm so fucking tired of marvel bringing her back and giving her traits from other characters in the actual source material. we don't need more peggy carter, she's already had her time to shine. i want other women that haven't even gotten their mcu introduction yet (or have been treated badly) to get the respect they deserve.

What would have happened in your ideal Cap3 movie, Serpent Society or otherwise?

This is an amazing question! On the one hand I would LOVE 90 minutes of Steve and Bucky just chillin', but on the other hand I am a sucker for the action thriller genre and I also understand its conceits. I would have been quite happy with a plotty Cap 3 that is of similar to quality to CATWS, and leave the emotional recovery to fanworks.

First of all the focus of this movie needs to be on Steve, Bucky and Sam, and to a lesser extent Nat. I think one of the most important roles of this story is to set up why Sam would be the ideal candidate to take on the mantle should he choose to. I think Isaiah’s existence should be introduced as a discussion of just how much the SHIELD and CIA “compromised”, although I would prefer if that story is explored in more depth in a Sam-centric movie.

The arc I really want to see for Bucky is him gaining agency over his own missions. He’s bright and analytical, he’s been a sergeant, he’s the oldest of 4 kids — sure, during the war he was happy to step back into a supportive role for Steve but he’s also been a leader himself. I feel like canon Bucky often gets relegated to the follower role but he’s probably someone far more opinionated and strong-minded then he’s given credit for. I know a lot of people liked the fact that Bucky had holed himself up after CATWS, but I kinda want to see him be proactive, ya know, and not just be the NPC waiting for the main character to kickstart the plot. I also feel like it would be in his nature to be proactive rather than passive. Certainly, his CATFA story suggest he is assertive and independent-minded, and taking down Hydra is as much his goal as it is Steve's.

For Steve, though, I would like to see him either own the Captain America title or transition to Nomad. Either way, I want Steve to separate from the propaganda aspect of Captain America and take control of his own narrative. This is a theme that is unique to Steve amongst the Avengers. He was created to be the face of an entity; he had no knowledge or control over how that narrative was curated for 70 years, and then he was pressured into presenting himself to suit that narrative.

Ideally, the big bad should still be Hydra, because both Steve and Bucky deserved closure for everything that had happened in the last 70 years.

I feel like the natural flow of events from CATWS is that Zola has uploaded himself into the internet prior to his "brain" getting bombed - and maybe it would be a good tie-in to AoU to say that Zola's presence in the internet corrupted Ultron and drove him down the genocidal path. Fury and Hill head to Europe, where they run into Bucky as he tries to solo his own way through the bits of Hydra he could remember. I don't know if it would overload the story by introducing Wakanda here - but perhaps instead of T'Challa, the character introduced is Nakia, who is investigating a human trafficking route which eventually leads her to Hydra +/- the Red Room. I feel like this would give a lead-in to another movie introducing T'Challa, as well as tie in nicely with Nat's movie. Alternatively, the original T'Challa story could still be used here but with Zola pulling the strings instead of Zemo.

Ideally the movie should address all the experiments that has now been established in canon - Steve's Project Rebirth, Bucky (and the other PoWs), Isaiah and his squad, the source of Howard's serum, and Bruce, and discuss the eugenics beliefs driving them, and the fact that this belief still thrives in a lot of American institutions. I'd like to see Steve and Sam each confront this and come to terms with what it means for them personally. I want Steve, Sam and Bucky to each then choose to denounce the powers that had caused or perpetuated their traumas, including those they thought were their allies.

But I think ultimately, the message has to be one of hope and optimism. There is a possibility of rebuild and renewal and change. It's Steve saying "My faith is in people, and for the most part they haven't let me down"; it's Sam saying "What would be the point of all the pain and sacrifice if I wasn't willing to stand up and keep fighting?"; it's Bucky saying...well canon him hasn't really been given the chance to say much, but what about letting Bucky show that he - very much like Steve and Sam beside him - believes in hope and goodness and that was why he could survive all that time and still come out the other end a good person? And this would also be why Sam does pick up the shield later, because despite all he has seen he still believes a better tomorrow is possible.

Ah yes, it is I, after a million years, I am back with some new ideas and headcanons to quench the thirst of many.

Do I apologize for my absence? Yes, however it was necessary and very much needed. For, I am a person more fixated on personal projects than I am on fandom content.

Red Skull is a gay man!! He’s actually been gay for,, fOREVER PFFT— It’s a dormant sort of feeling he never truly realized until a few instances. It’s hilarious really, when people find out bc they NEVER expect it!! Zola in particular finds it amusing..

Zola and Red Skull are best friends, they literally are!! I don’t care what canon says, I think they’re best friends!! As soon as Zola and Skull met, they formed a connection. Zola lovingly calls it a “gaydar,” (as they’re both gay asf) much to Johann’s chagrin!

Red Skull’s mom is a very special figure to him. He’s never met her, but always wanted to.. His main schemes always involve trying to rule the world. However, he has a side hustle!! His more secretive, quiet schemes.. center around trying to revive his mother. Just to meet her, for even a split moment..

Red Skull has scars! All over him!! He looks like a proper military man! He’s got huge, facial scaring to accent his golden eyes. Whenever clothes are torn, you can spot huge body scars as well! He’s a scarred up man!

Red Skull has a core group of friends. I don’t fucking care, Johann deserves some friends. Hence why, Zola, Mother Night, and Viper are his buddies!! Zola has been around the longest, and perhaps knows Johann the best in the world (even more than YOU, Steve—)! Viper is his head lieutenant, and shares his sadistic love for violence. She’s a girlboss who tries to keep Johann’s head in check! Mother Night tried to flirt with Johann at first, but then opted to keep him as her gay bestie!! She’s the most,, social(?) of the group, but there’s a reason they keep her around!!

Captain America is actually quite possessive of Red Skull. He isn’t too fond of his friends taking the fiend on. He claims it’s due to safety, how Skull is incredibly dangerous! However.. Some of his friends are suspicious of such a claim..

IT Is So Hard To Say Goodbye

Summary: Maggie, Amelia, and Meredith help Lexie grieve over her her father's death.

Set up after "The Winer Takes It All (15x11).

Maggie, Amelia and Meredith were in the living room when Amelia said, "I'm worried about Lexie; she hasn't spoken to me since her father died."
Suddenly, Meredith's phone began to ring.
"It's mine," Meredith told them. "I'm going to get it."
"Hi Mark, how is Lexie doing?"
"Wait she is not with you?", Mark asked her as he held his one year old son.
"No, she doesn't."
"She doesn't answer my calls and I have no idea where she is."
Meanwhile, Amelia and Maggie heard a knock at the door, and went to open it. They found Lexie, her eyes full with tears.
"I am afraid that if I had stayed with Mark, I might have killed him. May I come in?"
"Of course you can״, Amelia told her.
"Have you seen Lexie?" , Meredith asked her sisters in panic.
Then Meredith saw her sister and breathed a sigh of relief.
"Oh god Lexie, Mark got worried."
"I am not a kid. I am fine״, Lexie replied.
"Lex, you are not fine. Your father just died", Maggie told her.
Lexie said, "This is the reason I couldn't be with Mark. Please stop worrying about me״ ,She sat on the couch.
"What are we going to do?" Meredith asked worriedly as the girls walked into the living room.
"Sorry Mer, I know how crappy dad he was to you."
"Lex, please just talk to us."
"When my dad died, I was only 5 years old. I was afraid, hurt and confused. I know that if it happened now, I would still feel the same way because that's how I felt when Derek died. You feel like a lost little 5 year old child."
"I have a five years old kid. I can't feel like one. I really appreciate it, but I don't want you to worry about me, I am going to be fine."
"I don't think it's possible. We would always worry about you. When Derek died, you never left me and Amelia for a second, even though his death was hard on you too״ , Meredith told her.
"It's just stupid."
"It doesn't matter, we are your sisters and we love you. You can complain about everything you want, and we will listen to you, and no matter how stupid it is." , Maggie told Lexie.
"Sofia and Zola baked for me peanut butter cups. That made me think of my mom. Once when my mom was sad, I baked her a cake. The cake was awful, but my mom cried of joy because I made it to her״, Lexie said smiling.
"I am a bad mother."
Amelia, Meredith, and Maggie all said in unison, "What?"
"I left my kids in the middle of the night just because my father died."
"You didn't leave them. They are with their father. Lexie, you are allowed to grieve. Mark gets it, he is just worried about you. We are worried all about you״, Amelia said.
Then, they saw Zola descending the stairs. Surprised to see her aunt, Zola quickly rushed up to hug her.
"Auntie Lexie, did you like the peanut butter cups we made for you?", Zola asked her aunt.
"Yes Zozo, they were the best I've ever eaten."
Zola went to the kitchen, and came back with a glass of water.
Zola said, "I love you so much Auntie Lexie," and then she hugged her again.
"I love you too, Zozo," Lexie said, as the girl walked up the stairs.
"You see ,Lex? You are a great mother and a great aunt. Zola, Bailey and Ellis adore you״, Amelia told her.
"Would you like to sleep here?" Meredith asked her.
"I would love that," Lexie responded, smiling.
"I know it's stupid, but I am afraid to sleep alone."
"You don't have to. You can sleep with anyone you want״, Meredith told her
"I love you so much.", Lexie said as she hugged her sisters.
"We love you too״, Maggie told her.
"I'm gonna call Mark. He is really worried״, Said Meredith.
"So let me talk to him. He won't leave us alone until I will talk to him."
That night, Lexie slept in Meredith's bed.
"Meredith?"
"Yes?"
"Thank you for visiting dad. I know it meant a lot to him, even if he didn't deserve this."
"Well, he gave me the best thing I could have asked for," Meredith said, smiling at her sister.

The Most Attention-Grabbing Moments on the New Kendrick Lamar Album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers

Kendrick Lamar albums are notably dense: good kid, M.A.A.D. City is one of the great modern coming-of-age works of art, To Pimp a Butterfly is a lush and didactic examination of Black culture, and DAMN. sees him wrestling nervously with his stratospheric fame and tremendous influence. Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, Lamar’s eagerly awaited fifth LP, is no exception. It’s been five years since DAMN, the 34-year-old vocalist has a lot on his mind, and it feels like he airs it all over the record’s two discs (it's being called a double album even though it's shorter than To Pimp a Butterfly). He delves into celebrity hero worship on “Savior,” reflects candidly about watching a family member transition on “Auntie Diaries,” and shares his reaction to Kanye and Drake burying the hatchet on “Father Time.”

Musically, the album arguably covers more ground than Kendrick ever has, with features ranging from Portishead’s Beth Gibbons to Kodak Black to actor Taylour Paige. “Die Hard” is a gleaming Los Angeles joy ride, “We Cry Together” offers menacing boom bap courtesy of The Alchemist, “Crown” feels like a bleary-eyed Lamar writing on a cocktail napkin at a piano lounge.

Given the time he takes between releases, each time Kendrick releases an album he’s reckoning with a vastly different world than he did on his previous project. Mr. Morale is wide-ranging, ambitious, thoughtful, and occasionally messy, and it’s certainly full of food for thought. Here are some of GQ’sbiggest takeaways from our initial listen.

Kendrick weighs in on the vaccine debate (and Kyrie Irving) on “Savior.” There’s a complicated relationship between some hip-hop artists and vaccines in general. But Kendrick is the rare artist who actually stays out of the spotlight when he’s out of the spotlight, so we really had no sense of how he felt about the COVID-19 vaccines. He opens Mr. Morale’s “Savior” with a Charles Barkley-ian critique of people who look to celebrities as societal bellwethers, and on the second verse really zeros in on the issue of inoculation. In classic Kendrick fashion, he doesn’t just come right out and share his opinion, but paints a picture of a devout Christian who was a vaccine skeptic…until they got sick.

“Seen a Christian say the vaccine mark of the beast/Then he caught COVID and prayed to Pfizer for relief/Then I caught COVID and started to question Kyrie/Will I stay organic or hurt in this bed for two weeks?” he raps, referring to Kyrie Irving’s refusal to get vaccinated for nebulous reason, which made him ineligible to play for much of the NBA season. .

It’s easy to be anti-vaccine until you’re ill, in other words. Irving has already responded to “Savior” in classic cryptic fashion, telling his Twitch audience, “That’s definitely gonna go over people’s heads but that’s part of art. It sparks conversation. I love it. I’m not mad, I’m not indifferent, I’m just grateful.”

“We Cry Together” is an early contender for the album’s biggest lightning rod. As early reactions started pouring in, fans and critics seemed particularly split on disc one’s “We Cry Together,” a venomous back-and-forth that many have likened to Eminem’s “Kim.” Kendrick and Zola star Taylour Paige play a toxic couple who shout at each other over a grimy Alchemist beat. “I swear, I'm tired of these emotional-ass, ungrateful-ass bitches,” Kendrick seethes as the first verse opens, while Paige fires back “Always act like your shit don't stink, motherfucker, grow up.” Both performers put their all into the track emotionally–Kendrick’s voice even breaks the way it did when he was rapping in similarly distraught fashion on Lil Wayne’s “Mona Lisa”–but the clunky hook and awkward (though perhaps realistic) transition from fighting to sex scans a little weird in an audio-only format.

It’s a messy song, which is obviously kind of the point, so while it’s probably not going to get a lot of spins outside the context of the album, it’s at least interesting to hear Kendrick still trying new things at this phase of his career.

Kendrick uses his family to offer his perspective on trans rights in “Auntie Diaries." While hip-hop is slowly becoming more accepting of the LGBTQ+ community, it’s still uncommon for an A-list rapper to really weigh in on a topic like gender identity. Kendrick does so on “Auntie Diaries,” a track about two people transitioning and the subsequent ripple effects.

The first two verses focus on Lamar’s trans uncle, and how he was treated by other members of the family. The final few verses deal with Mary-Ann, a trans woman who we were first introduced to as Demetrius on Good Kid m.A.A.d City. Over the course of the song, Kendrick seems to grow up, from peppering the second verse with homophobic insults the way grade schoolers would, to reckoning with the relationship between different kinds of slurs. He even harkens back to a moment in 2018 when he brought a white fan on stage at a festival to perform “M.A.A.D. City,” who used the n-word in her performance to the dismay of the crowd.

But Kendrick’s decision to use anti-queer language in the song has been met with some criticism, with many making the point that he could’ve touched on the same themes without using a word that has such venomous connotations when said by heterosexual cis people. “Just listened to Kendrick's ‘Auntie Diaries.’ I want to reflect. I'm thankful he spoke in favor of love [and] acceptance of trans sibs — even after admitting what society did to them first. The ‘f**got’ threw me off because it isn't his word to use. But that's his point at the end,” The Trevor Project’s Preston Mitchum wrote on Twitter.

Kendrick can't understand why Kanye made up with Drake. Kendrick is often willing to acknowledge his own shortcomings. He rarely takes a holier than thou approach, and that’s something that has kept his music relatable and vulnerable even as he’s become one of the biggest stars in the entire music industry. We get a glimpse of this on “Father Time,” where Lamar shares his reaction to the seeming resolution of the venomous feud between Drake and Kanye West: “When Kanye got back with Drake, I was slightly confused/Guess I'm not mature as I think, got some healin' to do,” he admits.

The lyrics are endearingly candid–we don’t all forgive and forget in the same way and on the same timeline. But they also tie into the larger theme of the song, which is around the beliefs we inherit from our fathers and how they continue to shape us. Kendrick has rapped about his dad before, chiefly on DAMN.’s cinematic closer “Duckworth,” and here he talks openly about how his father taught him to present a tough exterior and repress his emotions (“Daddy issues, hid my emotions, never expressed myself/Men should never show feelings, being sensitive never helped”).

The line also raises eyebrows because Kendrick's relationship with Drake hasn’t always seemed smooth. In fact, despite Drake's early embrace of Kendrick in 2011 and a pair of collaborations, things have seemed icy between the two ever since Kendrick's infamously confrontational “Control” verse. (The “ghostwriter” line on To Pimp a Butterfly single “King Kunta” is interpreted by many as a jab at Drake for the whole Quentin Miller controversy.) Most of this could arguably of course just be media and fans trying to strum up conflict where there is none. But insiders have noted there was a real point where tensions almost reached a fever pitch. Since Kendrick frequently bigs up Kanye and has worked with him often,  some people are taking the line as him saying he wouldn't be so quick to bury his own issues with Drake.

Kendrick gets real about his relationship with Whitney Alford. We’ve never heard Kendrick talk about his romantic life with this level of candor before. Lamar got engaged to Whitney Alford, his childhood sweetheart, in 2015 and they now have two children together. But clearly, there have been some fraught moments in their relationship, and Kendrick gets into them here. On “Worldwide Steppers,” he says he had a “lust addiction,” and talks about how his involvement with other women put a strain on his relationship with Whitney. On “Mother I Sober,” Kendrick seems to cop to infidelity. He raps, “Insecurities that I project, sleepin' with other women/Whitney's hurt, the pure soul I know, I found her in the kitchen/Askin' God, ‘Where did I lose myself? And can it be forgiven?’”

The story ends on a note of reconciliation, as Alford can be heard talking to Kendrick at the end of “Mother I Sober.” “You did it, I’m proud of you. You broke a generational curse,” she says, before an adorable interjection from their daughter. Whitney and Lamar’s children come up again on “Rich Spirit,” in which a fiery Kendrick bucks back against critics, chiefly those whose lives revolve around being online while he has real-world obligations as a partner and father. “Takin' my baby to school, then I pray for her/'Cause you bitches ain't never been cool, writin' testament,” he says.
