Luck was what you normally relied on. All the achievements you have accomplished and all the obstacles you have conquered--you could attribute to luck. From what you could see, you relied too much on it, harboring no skill whatsoever. Your flame breath wasn’t anything special, and there was still a long way to go before you could see yourself mastering it.

This was especially true when you actually lived through the Final Selection. You heard from others that some people never got out of there alive. But you had to endure, as it was one of the hurdles to becoming a demon slayer. And if you did not become one, you would not be able to achieve your dream of being able to protect others from these evil creatures, nor would you be able to honor the memory of your childhood friends. So, for seven grueling days, you had to fight and survive the demons that inhabited the mountain.

As you stared out the rising sun, the smell of wisteria filled your nose. At the break of dawn, you became a low-ranked demon slayer. But that was enough to bring a smile to your face.

You could only get so far with luck, however. There were only a small number of people who could use the flame breath, as according to your old master, it was hard to master it. The flame breath was a dying one, with only a dwindling amount of families being able to use it. Even you had difficulties with the forms themselves, as your joints creaked painfully after every battle.

But even so, you did your duties as a member of the Demon Slayer Corps. What else was there to do? For two years and a half, you strived and little by little, you improved your own breath. It came to a point that a crow delivered a very important letter to you. You only knew it was important because it kept repeating and yelling the words, ‘urgent, urgent!’. It was from Ubuyashiki Kagaya, inviting you to his abode. The famed Ubuyashiki?

You set forth to journey to him, with guides carrying you there. It was a secret place, so you were blindfolded the whole time.

The moment you set eyes on his gentle eyes, you knew you could trust him. He sat alone on the tatami covered floor, the light of the moonlight serving as an indirect light. A lantern was light beside him and you could see the scar that spread across his face.

“___, it’s a pleasure to meet one of my children, face to face,” A smile was on his face. “I am not able to see you, of course, but you understand,”

“Of course, Oyakata-sama,”

“You might be wondering why you had to go through great lengths to visit me, and actually, I have a request to ask you,”

“What is it, sir?”

“I’m sure you have heard of the passing of the former Flame pillar, Rengoku Kyojuro,”

His death sent shock to the entire community. Of course you have heard of it. It was a pity that a fellow flame user had died, but along with his death, he was able to bring two other demons with him--one low-ranked and one high-ranked one.

“...I have, yes,”

He was not able to see you, yes, but the change in the atmosphere was enough to alert him. “I am asking you to take over his position as the Flame Pillar,”

“But I’m too young--”

“I have been keeping watch over you; your ability is on par with the other hashiras, and you have killed over fifty demons so far.” His tone was still gentle, careful not to rock the boat. “Please understand--your very presence may boost the morale of the other demon slayers,”

You close your eyes. How was this happening? Ubuyashiki might not know that you had just used your luck as a crutch. You did not want to disappoint him.

“I’m sorry, Oyakata-sama, I believe that I won’t be able to meet your expectations. I have no real ability in swordsmanship and my breath is not powerful. I truly hope I did not waste your time,”

“Nonsense,” His face had turned into a worried one now. “You look down on yourself too much, ___. Meet with the other hashiras, and you might change your mind,”

Sighing, you agreed to this compromise. He had a spare room for you to sleep in. It wasn’t a surprise, as his house was huge. The next morning, you woke up to change into your uniform. Ubuyashiki told you that the hashiras would arrive before lunch, so you waited for them. Ubuyashiki Amane and her children kept you company as you nervously imagined how the meeting would go.

When you heard people muttering outside, you peeked and saw a group of people. You had never seen the other hashiras before, so it was eye opening. Quietly, you came out of the room excusing yourself from Amane and the children.

Their attention turned to you. The same way you had never seen them before, they also were not familiar with you. Ubuyashiki was still sitting on the floor, attending to them. “___, please come closer,”

He requested, and so you did.

As your eyes skimmed over the handful of people powerful enough to be part of the Pillars, one boy caught your eye. A very familiar face. One that you thought had died so long ago.

“Muichiro?” You wondered out loud, and his eyes locked with yours. But he did not show any sign of recognition. His eyes remained cloudy and uninterested. Even so, he still had his beautiful blue eyes. Ones that used to shine brightly in the moonlight, ones that used to hold great concern for you.

Ubuyashiki did not seem to hear it or, even if he did, did not deem it important. “I have been thinking of recruiting ____ ___ as the next successor--in place of the fallen Flame Pillar,”

They seemed to have mixed reactions. There were those who nodded, and some who seemed disgruntled by this suggestion. But you kept your eyes on Muichiro. He had changed--his eyes had turned lifeless. Was it because of the hard work that was required in becoming a demon slayer? Had he killed enough demons that he had changed? You hoped not.

A white haired man with scary eyes stepped up. “As much as I respect you, Oyakata-sama, I have to wonder. Why a kid again?”

He was right, but you didn’t care. Tokito Muichiro was before you. One of your childhood friends that you thought had perished under a demon. Why was he here?

“Her combat skills are worthy of becoming a hashira, Sanemi,” He briefly explained.

“I think it’s great that another girl will join us!” A woman with pink and green hair exclaimed. “It’s been so hard when all my peers are men,”

“Technically, she is not yet a hashira, as she tells me she is too young and inexperienced to become one,” Ubuyashiki explains, and you turn red. Did he really have to mention that part?

A woman with a butterfly hairpin comes forward and places a hand on your shoulder. Her expression is unreadable, as she hides it behind an empty smile. “I think you should trust in Oyakata-sama. It’s an honor to directly serve under him, ___,”

“I still want to leave the decision to her, Shinobu,” He interjects, not wanting any conflict to arise.

But the moment you saw Muichiro, you had already made up your mind. If anything, curiosity fueled you, and you just wanted to know what had happened to him. Just seeing his face was enough to convince you. They all wait for your decision. If you accepted, they would be leaving his house with a new colleague. Sure, luck was always present for you, but when it came to decisions, you had to rely on yourselves. This was a leap, and you’d hate yourself if you made the wrong choice.

You face Ubuyashiki and bow lowly, placing your head on the hard tatami floor.

“I accept your request, Oyakata-sama. I’ll do my best to live up to your standards.”

After your inaguaration and announcement that you were to be the next Flame Pillar, you rush to Muichiro. It had been years since you had last seen him, and he just disappeared without a trace! As he was about to leave, you tap him on his shoulder.

“Muichiro! Long time no see!” You say, a smile on your face. Even so, his expression did not change.

His response completely subverted your expectations. Honestly, what did you think would happen?

“Do I know you?”

The same cold eyes that his twin brother had, stared back at you. But you were sure you were still talking to Muichiro. You had seen Yuichiro’s body in their small house when you were visiting them, not his.

“Don’t you remember?” There was slight shame present in your tone, but you were determined for him to recognize you. Maybe it was just that the years changed you so much that he couldn’t remember you anymore. “I used to visit you and your brother! We even used to play in the flowers near your house!”

You explain, but the look in his eyes never changed and his lips stayed in a straight line. “I don’t remember meeting anyone like you.”

But you did not waver. Almost three years--and he’d just forget about you? “But we used to be so close--we’d even hide from Yuichiro--”

You could not finish your sentence as he cut you off.

“Just because you became a hashira does not mean you can pretend to know me,” There was a sound of distaste in his voice. “I, particularly, do not care about the others. But if you play with my memories again, I assure you, you will create an enemy out of me,”

There was only silence as he stared you down. Almost the same age, but you could tell he was much more powerful than you. He was even confident enough to doubt your abilities as a hashira.

“What happened to you?”

He looked at you in distaste. “What do you mean by that?”

“You used to be so sweet and gentle, you’d even try to braid my hair!” Recounting the memories brought back happiness and sadness for you. “But you changed. You’re no longer warm, you’re just… indifferent,”

If he was the same Muichiro, he would have cried at your comments and apologized. But it was clear that he was not the same. “What about it?”

Every word he said struck a blow to your already weakening heart. There was no way he’d forget the time you comforted him because of the death of his parents. There was no way he’d forget about the time you helped him get wood and taught him how to cook rice. There was no way he’d forget about the promise you made to each other--that you’d protect and be together always.

You grabbed the sleeves of his black uniform. Hands shaking at the thought that such a dear friend would just lose all memories of you so abruptly.

“Come on, Muichiro, stop joking around--it’s not funny anymore!” That’s right, he had never been the funny type. This sick joke he was playing had already run long enough. It was time to give it up. “You’re the only one left from my past… I just… I can’t lose you again,”

Slight concern showed up in his expression, but he immediately changed it to one of anger and offense.

“If you really cared about me, you’d stop babbling about this nonsense and go do your job as a hashira,” He moved his arms away and turned away from you. “I have better things to do than deal with your lies,”

At this point, you had dealt with so much hardships, trying not to die everyday. This is what you get from the universe? A childhood friend that won’t even try to remember you? You gritted your teeth and curled your hands into fists. If that was what he wanted, then that was what he got.

“Fine, Tokito.” You said, warmth that you willingly gave him, lost now. “I’ll go and do my job as a hashira,”

With that, you left.

Muichiro cursed himself as he watched your figure fade away into the distance.

Those desperate and pleading eyes were familiar to him. He had seen them in a dream once. It was only a dream, he tried to reason with himself. But he could not ignore the guilt that gnawed at him inside.

He could not dwell on it for long, as he still had his own worries. He headed in the opposite direction, quick to find a guide to take him to the swordsmith village.

You wandered in the woods for the longest time. It was the only way you could calm yourself down. You were not sure yourself just how long you had been walking. Had it been days? Or had it been mere hours? All you knew was the anger that built up inside you.

The crow that had been assigned to you sat on your shoulder, berating you to go do your mission. But you were too tired and unfeeling to do anything. Was this how Muichiro felt? Empty and hollow. Even if you did ask him, you doubt he’d ever face you again after that encounter.

Perhaps it was foolish of you. After all, you were only invited there because Ubuyashiki wanted you to become a hashira. You were not there to re-spark friendships that had faded over the years. After all, what was the reason you even became a demon slayer in the first place?

Right. It all came back to him. To honor his brother and his memory. But even he did not seem to acknowledge it.

You sigh. Were you ever going to have a break?

It seemed not, as you heard rustling behind you. Maybe a normal Mizunoto-ranked slayer would not hear that, but after two years of fighting against demons, you had known their techniques.

You turned behind you and saw a man in a kimono. Was he a samurai? He held a sword in his hands and he was about to sheath it. You could not see his face, as the moon provided little light. Once you saw that he was not a demon, you relaxed.

“Don’t worry, sir, I am not a demon,” You show your sword to him. “You can let go of your own sword,”

“That’s too bad,” As he stepped forward, you could feel your stomach drop. “Because I am one.”

Three sets of eyes showed itself to you. The middle part, you could see that it spelled out ‘Upper Moon One’. There were red markings on his face and neck, and you almost felt your life flash before you.

You take out your own sword and hold it up against him. “What are you doing here?!”

You ask, desperate to stall him and to find a way out of this. It was clear that luck was not on your side today. Your own childhood friend dismissed you, and now? One of the most powerful demons had popped out of nowhere! Talk about misfortune!

“I could ask the same thing to you,” He said, as he slowly took his own sword out. “But let me humor you--I was simply practicing my breaths,”

Breaths? There was a demon who knew how to use them?

Before he could make a stance, you rushed to cut him up. You had to strike him and keep the element of surprise. A bright light came from your sword as you sliced the arm that held the hilt of his sword, flames following the cold metal. Then, you jump backwards, waiting to see what would happen. Your eyes widened as his arm was still intact.

“A flame breath user?” He chuckled slowly, a feat that you could not enjoy. “I see his own technique worsened over the generations,”

Then, he took a stance, and in a flash, he was in front of you. “I guess I can give you a bit of credit, as you are still young,”

You try to dodge him, but his own breath disoriented you. Inconsistent crescent moons came from his sword and some had cut against the uniform you wore. You grunt as you feel wounds open up from his attack. But you had no time to rest, as you quickly used his closeness to attack. Flames came out of your sword again, and you target his hand again. It comes off clean, but you see that he regenerates again.

“My brother’s sun breath burned worse than that.” He remarks, and you knew that you were never going to defeat alone.

Turning away from him you hurry and run through the woods. You did not care if what you were doing was cowardly. The difference in strength was crystal clear.

“Running away? And you call yourself a swordsman?”

It was all you could do. Your luck had finally run out, and you knew that you’d die if even for a second, you faltered. Not when you still had a hundred more things to accomplish!

You breathe in and out, navigating the dark forest. You needed to live. If you could just see Muichiro one last time, you’d forgive him.

Muichiro wakes up in the Butterfly estate. He doesn’t really know why he’s here, nor how he got here, all he remembers is the masked faces of the swordsmiths he protected in the village.

Right… the village! He gets up, but he feels pain everywhere in his body. That was a huge mistake, so he lies back down again, and slowly raises himself up, grunting at the pain. In the same room, he sees other beds that are occupied by familiar faces. Kanroji Misturi, Kamado Tanjiro, and a few injured swordsmiths caught in the action.

But someone else that he hadn’t seen that day is also there. She’s covered in numerous bandages, and a worker is sitting near her, looking over her. He can tell that she’s in critical condition. The worker near her hears him groaning and he rushes over to him.

“Tokito-dono, it’d be wise to lay down--your wounds aren’t fully healed yet!”

He rolls his eyes. “It’s fine, I’ve gone through worse,”

Muichiro’s eyes can’t stop being drawn to the figure on the bed. “Say, can I ask who that person is?”

The worker follows where Muichiro is pointing, and sighs out of concern. “That’s the new Flame Pillar, _____-dono,”

You? He can’t hide his shock. Before he lost consciousness, he saw all the memories you claimed to have with him. Each and everyone of them he relived, and he could feel embarrassment and regret building up inside of him. He suddenly gets up from his bed and in the blink of an eye, he’s by your side.

The wounds that he had, he ignored. There was nothing else more important at the moment!

“What happened to her?” He asks in a frantic tone. The worker is a second too late, and Muichiro asks again, with more venom in his voice. “What happened?”

The worker stammers, but the words finally come out of his mouth. “She encountered the Upper Moon demon alone in the woods… and well, she’d been in recovery for almost a week now,”

A week… So while he was journeying to the swordsmith village, you were fighting for your life? He felt like an idiot. The last time you spoke, he talked down on you. He looked at your pained expression, and he could tell that you were in immense pain right now.

“Tell me everything--how was she found?”

He had to know.

“Her crow escaped as she was battling the demon and told near demon slayers near her. Thankfully, Himejima-dono was praying in a temple nearby and was able to save her,” The worker’s voice trembled. He was afraid that Muichiro’s anger would turn towards him. “When she got here, she had numerous slashes and her heart stopped for a minute...”

Muichiro looks at the worker in alarm. But he already had a response to this. “Don’t worry! Thanks to Kocho-dono, she survived that. Now, it’s all up to her if she’s able to wake up,”

“I see…”

Shakily, Muichiro reaches for your hand. There’s a slight hesitation in him, but he whispers, so only you can hear it.

“I’m sorry.”

He can’t believe that he could not remember who you were! The one who was always there to protect him from his brother, the one who was able to make him smile during hard times, and the one who he promised eternity with.

He was not entirely sure if you were going to survive this. If you had encountered the demon that was second to Kibutsuji Muzan in terms of power, he could only pray to the gods that you’d be able to pull through.

The worker excuses himself. He sees the intimate moment happening in front of him, and he respects the both of you.

“I swear I’ll never let you go again. Just please…” Muichiro feels tears well up in his eyes. He is not able to stop them. His voice cracks multiple times and he grips your hand tightly. “Please wake up, ___…”

Your hand twitches in his, and he feels his heart skip a beat.

“You’ve always been a crybaby,” You croak out. Your head is throbbing, and your throat is dry. “I guess not everything about you has changed,”

He rushes to get a glass of water and hands it to you. Then, he makes sure that you are able to sit properly. Wiping his tears away, he looks at you. “I was so scared,”

“You clearly haven’t met the Upper Moon demon, then,” You muse, and Muichiro is not able to complain as he is just so happy that you are actually sitting and talking to him again!

“I regained my memories a few days ago…” He confesses, and he turns his gaze to the ground. “I apologize… for what I said to you. I didn’t mean it. In fact…”

He trails off, and his cheeks take on a light color of pink. “You’re the best thing I have in life right now,”

You also blush from his comment, but you had to ask him. “Why did you just suddenly disappear all those years ago? Why was Yuichiro dead?”

He tells you the story of how a demon had attacked the both of them, and how his memories disappeared from him after. “I forgot about everything after that… I’m sorry that I left without a word,”

“I… I understand,” Muichiro thinks that you’ll tell him to get out of your face. He expects that you’re disappointed in him for thinking that you’d forgive him so easily after he insulted you, until you speak up. “Before I actually lost consciousness, my last thoughts were forgiving you. lt’s in the past, isn’t it?”

It might have been the crazy amount of medicine that you were on at the moment, but you turned bold. You gestured for him to come closer, and you kissed his cheek. “All that matters right now is the present, Muichiro,”

He smiles at this and kisses your hand multiple times. “Then I’m ready to fulfill my promise of staying with you forever,”

“Promise?”

“Promise.”

You felt warmth spread throughout your body. You both will be alright, as long as you have each other to depend on. All the obstacles and hardships you encountered at the start seemed worth it, if you found Muichiro in the end.

Luck really did end up being on your side.

📃 what is the plot of your hyperfixation? and is it a movie, game, show, etc?

😔 i am an anime enjoyer sadly enough. theres also the manga but i havent read that SO im just gonna be focusing on the anime for this one. uhhh (digging through my brain) none of this is going to be worded intelligently im sorry give me a moment.

there are these kids and some of them can turn into weapons. actually theres just weapon people in general and thats like Normal. dont ask too many lore questions. and they uhhh the kids go to a high school called the DWMA (lit. demon weapon-meister academy) focused on keeping the balance between good and evil. i uhhhhh

The anime is based on the Soul Eater manga series by Atsushi Ohkubo. The plot of the episodes follows Maka Albarn, a "meister" of the Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA), and her living weapon, Soul Eater, as she seeks to make the latter into a "death scythe" through absorbing the souls of evil humans.

i think that drew me towards it initially was the very halloweeny, early 2000s feel to it (and.. fair enough, it WAS made in 2008-2009 so its authentic) but what kept me reeled in was a lot of the themes and symbolism that i am waayy too tired to get into rn but i am just telling you bro this anime hits.. a little deep

this isnt anime specific and i am thinking heavily of the manga crona boobage weirdness but every time atsushi ohkubo writes something weird with these characters i feel like this image. it fills me with primal rage

See I wanted Geto to be on my shit list (as I'm not normally a bad guy lover) but I swear he wore me down reading the manga. Plus he's just so pretty he makes my brain all static noises 😳 Not to mention that backstory between him and Gojo like YES give me all the drama I need buried drama 🤩

Totally agree on the Mai thing. See I wanted to hate Todo too bc of well him beating on Megumi but the moment him and Yuji were just like "Big Dumb Meat Heads" together I threw that out the window! Those two together are *chefs kiss* Absolutely stupendous I never get tired of them 👌👌👌

Mai on the other hand is just crawling more and more under my skin. Like why you gotta be like that gurl? You wanna go in the crusty corner with Mahito? Cuz you gotta crusty attitude that needs fixing like yesterday 😐

Literary brain tells me it wants more drama/character growth between Megumi and Toji. But my useless overly big heart wants to punch Toji and protect Megumi at all costs bc he just showed up on the screen like the kool aid man and burst right into my heart and I shan't forgive Megumi for that but now I will die for him so ¯\_( ツ)_/¯

But I'm not the only one who lowkey fantasizes about self inserty type day dreams??? Like every day all day I got my thoughts flowing into 500 different lil oneshots I'm too chicken to post anywhere bc I havent written anything in a while and I feel I'm rusty. But your idea! YOUR IDEA WOO BOI- I'm not even a Gojo fanatic (like I adore him but my heart dick thudded elsewhere RIP) but that scene you described of straddling him just to rip his blindfold off in the heat of an arguement that's clearly deadly to either party- Just to see him on the brink of tears fighting back every emotion to slate his composure to cocky/uncaring. Only to have it obviously failing, and the metaphorical reality around you both crumbling along with Gojo's emotional state- Oh God I would read that crap outta something like that. Bro I can't help but feel had for Gojo. That shit must have hurted. Like he looked so calm and collected when it all happened but was he really? His best friend potential lover went feral and murdered an entire village AND his family then he tried to kill his first years once and now AGAIN what is happening. Did you see the look on Gojo's face when Yaga told him he went rogue? That was a face of hurt and betrayal he couldn't even begin to understand at the young age of... What was it, 17? 18? He was practically a little itty bitty baby compared to now. I haven't read the prequel yet don't laugh at me but I've heard it hurts so much worse having to face Getou back then AND now. Stupid brain worms, stop fucking around.

I wanted to hate Todo too hut before he even turned good I couldn't. I have a thing for big buff boys who have zero brains and too much brawns I'm looking at you Metal Bat, Captain Ōbi I just wanna adopt/marry them because in all reality they're trying their best. I'm really glad Todo exists and has his big brother delusion because honestly I think that's something Yuji needs, especially in the current arc. Yuji needs as much support as he can get.

Low key unrelated but I have a theory that Gojo can see everything from his little cube prison and knows what's going on. Its probably because of the six eyes, or because he's just fucking Gojo, or even because Geto seems kinda sadistic and would do something like that. But I can imagine him watching Megs and Toji fight and it absolutely destroying him. For starters, Gojo killed him .... Right? Wtf is he doing back? What? Second don't commit suicide in front of your kid oh my god Toji what (I'm probably just salty because of a past experience, but also, calm down Toji oh my god) and third I can see it hurting Gojo because in a way it feels like he's been trying to protect Megumi. Its obvious Gojo has this attachment to Megumi, and maybe it's because they've known each other so long, but I don't think Gojo is prepared to deal with the aftermath. Does he have to tell him, if Megs doesn't put the pieces together? Will he have to knock some sense into him to actually tell him? Because he DID try to tell Megs once before and he avoided it like the plague. Its also gotta hurt when you feel like someone's dad and you witness them have a bad interaction with their other dad.

Throw in his daughter being on the brink of death, his other son being emotionally demolished, his second year kids lost in the void and not even his void, his best friend locked him in a box, his other best friend exploded, etc. I think Gojo I pretty distraught even if he doesn't show it

So I actually read this ask last night, but due to personal reasons I didn't reply to it now, and I actually started experimenting writing out this scenario. I had to stop when I wrote the line "Approximately one year after the first finger was consumed, Itadori Yūji was formally executed. At three minutes to midnight, Sukuna Ryomen was expelled from his body, destroying the vessel along with it. The executioner was none other than the teenager's teacher and mentor Gojo Satoru. When Y/N awoke to this news, they attacked on sight."

And i do really want to post some of my fics, like I did with Nobara Meeting Sukuna For The First Time. However, I only posted that because it was short and simple lmao it was basically just a meme I didn't even run it though grammarly like I do with the headcanons.

I like sticking to the headcanons as of right now because I feel like grammar didn't exist when I make those. I can spell things wrong and leave off punctuation and word then like I'm a third grader just learning English and no one will laugh lmao. Fanfics kinda stress me out because i want them to be perfect. I also have a hard time with fight scenes and transitioning and it's s mess.

I REALLY want to write out my Guardian Angel! Junpei AU because I think it's so cute. Just the idea that this boy is assigned to fight against fate and the higher ups and keep Yuji alive despite him being an idiot and a target is cute to me. Like I just canon him being the plantonic equivalent of in love with this boy and he feels like he rlly owes it to Yuji for trying to save him it's the LEAST he can do. Plus I need the mental imagine if Junpei annoying reader-chan into finding Yuji because "they play a pivotal role in Yuji's future" just for the "pivotal role" to literally be playing therapist and just being there for him and being a medium between Junpei and Yuji because guardian angels aren't allowed to reveal themselves to the person they're guarding but also/// he might risk his wings being stripped just to talk to Yuji one more time////

But yea, maybe if I have time and create little mini works like Nobara Meeting Sukuna For the First Time I'll def post them! I'll work on casually making them longer and soon I'll be confident to posts longer ones. But until then I hope just the headcanons at alright ;-;

Attack on Titan S4 Ep5

THIS IS MY BIGGEST SPOILER WARNING LIKE PLS DO NOT LOOK UNDER THE CUT IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED OR READ UP TO THIS POINT IN THIS STORY. P L E A S E. Attack on Titan is such an amazing story and I HIGHLY recommend picking it up. It could seem overrated cause literally everyone is talking about it but there are HUGE reasons why it’s being talked about right now, especially since the anime has caught up to some really cool parts in the story. So this is kind of a psa for it as well. PLEASE GIVE THIS MANGA/ANIME A CHANCE. IT’S REALLY AMAZING. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED IN THE SLIGHTEST, TRUST ME. ISAYAMA HAJIME IS AN AMAZING MANGAKA FOR THIS BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF WORK AND WIT STDUIO AND MAPPA HAVE ANIMATED IT SO SO SO WELL. Anyway. On to my big big rant under the cut :3

Ok so after literally bingeing through the whole anime for the last three days ever since ep5 was released imma just talk about the season and ep5 especially and the absolute BEAUTY that everything is.

With the beginning of s4, we get to see outside the walls, yeah? We see that there’s a war going on between marley and the mid-east allied forces over control of paradis and who gets the resources from it. And then we see the main gang: falco, gabi, zofia, and udo. Ya know, at first i absolutely hated seeing them. Like come on where’s the people that we CAME HERE to see?? That we saw on the teaser images?? But as the eps kept getting released and we started to get more of the story pieced together, we’re forced to see the other side’s beliefs. What the other side is fighting for. Like despite the eldians on the main land sharing the same ‘blood’ as the paradis people within the walls, they have grown up to believe that the people within the paradis walls are pure evil and devil’s spawn and part of the reason they’re oppressed in the first place. That was the whole purpose of those first 4 episodes. And to be honest, I kinda got attached to falco at least cause he was just an honest kid wanting to protect a girl he likes from becoming an actual warrior.

Rewatching the previous seasons and refreshing my memory on everything that has happened to everyone in the walls made me realize that they just made us get very attached to everyone on paradis, especially the main gang. For years, and I mean literal years, we have all grown up and grown attached to these people in the walls that only want their freedom from the titans. They just want to live peaceful lives and there are people that are brave enough to fight for that peace. No matter what it takes.

And ep5 brings everything full circle. It was absolutely mind blowing with every sentence that eren spoke to reiner. How they were both the same. How what they were doing was to save the world, their world. How they had no choice but to go through so many harsh experiences like killing other people and losing people they cared about and making difficult sacrifices for the sake of the humanity they knew.

It is absolutely beautiful how there is no ‘good’ or ‘bad’ side. Like, despite my bias toward the paradis people bc i’ve literally grown up learning about their story, you can’t say that there is an actual objective enemy that the viewers should side with. Everyone involved is just fighting for their own beliefs. And it’s just the cruel world that they live in that forces them to fight because again they have no choice.

Also just a quick reminder... AT THE END OF SEASON 3 PART 2 THE 104TH CADET KIDS ARE ALL 15. FIFTEEN YEARS OLD. MEANING THEY, INCLUDING REINER AND EREN OFC, ARE NINETEEN NOW. I swear they look like adults. And if THATS 19 then what does that make levi and hanji ??? In the teaser images, they look like they havent aged a DAY.

Anyway, in an article that i’ll link here that unpacks ep5, the author said, “[it] feels like everything in this season up until this point has been prologue and that Attack on Titan’s conflict is about to finally begin” and honestly i could not agree more. The previous seasons were dedicated to detailed world building and slow intake of knowledge about the titans and the actual world, leaving the viewer none the wiser than the characters that had grown up in the walls and to also give them time to get to know everyone in the walls. To become attached to them. And then completely blow their minds by saying that of course there’s more people outside the walls. In fact those people outside the walls despise the people inside the walls and wanted to kill them off and the titans are the least of their worries.

So imma leave my absolute FAVORITE part of s4 ep5 (not my video but bless their soul for posting it)

And ofc imma still talk just a little bit abt this. GOSH THE TENSIONS. THE REALIZATIONS.

When reiner reveals to eren that it was all his fault that any of seasons 1-3 happened bc he forced the rest of his team to continue with the mission after marcel was killed. THE CUT TO EREN’S IRISES SHRINKING JUST A TINY BIT AT THAT REALIZATION. In another world, all of his loved ones might still be alive. He would’ve never had to experience the hell of the colossal titan breaking down Wall Maria.

AND THEN when willy says ‘more than anyone i wanted the eradication of eldians. but i dont want to die because i was born into this world’ and it’s a call back to WAYYYY back when the gang is talking with shadis and he tells eren what his mother said long ago “[my son is] already special. because he was born into this world” which eren indicates he remembers by the small reaction of his eyes widening at those words. He’s reminded that everyone is special... it’s just that they had the misfortune of being born into this world.

oh and one last thing:

the way they animated this was perfectly done. tho they could only fit willy into one frame and had the camera pan up to eren it still worked SO well

anywayyyyy if you reached this point thanks ig? 😅 gosh i love this story so much. it’s an amazing piece of work and will definitely go down in history. the whole story was woven together so well and rewatching everything after seeing ep 5 helped me connect parallels and realize each character’s motives and just why some characters did what they did. Can’t wait for ep 6 :))

guys, can I please talk about Hi Score Girl

I have talked about this in the past, but there is a really big soft spot in my heart for romance anime. I love romance anime, I will occasionally jump from show to show for a while, just wallowing in the stuff. I think its the drama of them, but also like, usually they’re about falling in love in middle school, and trying to make it work, and I’ve been dating the same girl since i was 13 so like, that shit resonates with me on a deeeeeep level. figuring out how you feel about girls, while also trying to figure out how you feel about A girl, beauty.

I also have talked about how I have a deep deep love of arcade fighting games, like a mild addiction to arcade fighting games, like I build fighter pads,

and for a hot minute I also made a few super guns so I could play LEGIT versions of those games at home. (for the uninitiated super guns look like this)

that cable is a JAMMA harness, that connects to the JAMMA edge on an arcade board, and the box is for you to plug in controllers, and plug it into your tv. its an arcade game console....I have since mostly moved over to a MAME console built off of a raspberry pi and my dreamcast, because collecting arcade boards is a very expensive hobby to have, and have since sold off most of my boards....I also had a consolized MVS, and had a couple of neo geo games, but I quit that fast, 150 bucks for a dang cartridge is stupid, no version of king of fighters is worth that

I 100% remember when I first played street fighter alpha and wondering when the fuck 3 would come out just like the protag in this did. okay okay jesus I am rambling about this show too much

WIKI SAYS The story revolves around the life of gamer Haruo Yaguchi, the coin-op gaming scene, and the changes that develop within both over time. Known as a ’90s arcade romantic comedy, the series is notable for its unique art style, and thoroughly accurate depictions of the multitude of gaming software, hardware, and even culture that are featured.

our main dude is Haruo Yaguchi a young man who is dismal in various facets of life: He's not academic, not athletic, and not very attractive. The only thing he's got going for him is an insane amount of mad gamer skills. He rules the arcade scene as "Beastly Fingers Yaguchi ", until he meets his match during a fateful encounter with Akira Oono while playing Street Fighter II. Undeterred, he seeks to challenge and one day out play her, considering her his rival.While he starts off as a snarky brat with an ego bigger than any winning streak he could rack up in Street Fighter, he eventually grows out of it. However, he never abandons his dedication and love for gaming, which almost borders on unhealthy obsession. The daughter of the Oono zaibatsu, Oono is rich, popular, and multi-talented -- the polar opposite of Haruo. She never talks, and communicates solely through gestures and facial expressions.

I will say the fact she doesnt talk is kinda problematic to me personally, but hey, no story is perfect, and her being silent is offset byyyyyyyyyyy

Koharu Hidaka,

who is the left leg in the love triangle, and IMHO a much stronger character than Oono, but....well we’ll get to that later.

She’s a girl in Haruo's class throughout junior high. Goes to an all-girl school with Onizuka throughout high school. Previously an introverted girl who spent much of her time studying alone, she develops into a more sociable person and develops an interest in gaming after spending time with Haruo over a new Neo Geo MVS that gets installed in front of her family's store.She has a natural instinct for fighting games, which transforms her into a powerful force to be reckoned with as both a gamer, and a rival for Haruo's affections. After a fateful showdown at her and Haruo's usual stomping grounds, she developed a bit of a sadistic side whenever Haruo's around. This frightening skill garnered the attention of the "Mizonokuchi Force" leader, Nikotama, who helped Koharu truly awaken her love for fighting games.

she sort of gets side tracked by some stuff in highschool, and takes a weird turn...but again we’ll get to that

so this show is fucking amazing

I binged it in one night, and I loved it so much, that I actually went out and read a bunch of scanulations of the manga because the show pulls A GOD DAMN INUYASHA and just stops at the half way point. i havent hunted down the manga side of a show to finish it since Suzuka, another love triangle romance anime....hmmmm

the entire show is on netflix as an original series and its animated in this really cool CGI/ cell shaded look that feels like oldschool anime, but also like an old mmo or something, its weird, but so so so so good.

please stop now and go watch every moment of it, trust me you will love it

wowowowowowowow some spoilers ahead yall wowowowowowowowow

so I want to talk about the second half, which I experienced via manga, manga from less than great websites, and because....my experience is via scanulations and sometimes those are less than reliable, anyway, they fall into some sort of gang arcade scene in shibuya in the second half, which is weird, and its painted pretty weird in the manga, but I think the show will sort it out more when the OVA comes out in march, yes netflix is going to finish it with 3 OVA’s which I assume are going to be like 45 minutes to an hour each

anyway, in the manga I dont really like what they did to Hidaka once they get into the gang stuff, she got really angry, and sad, and sadistic, which I mean....she didnt do anything to deserve that heel turn. but hey, this show is amazing, and the manga is amazing and the ending IS FUCKING WORTH IT and I have eaten up about 40% of your dash, really sorry phone users, but hey. I do what I do in the name of good animes, and I feel like I had to make up for that sack of crap I gave you all the other night

no I dont ahh its too childish and fillery for my taste. I am on 4G and i’m using my data to read and watch Haikyuu!! plus update my tumblr and study (ill watch gaiden when the whole thing is out when im back home with stable wifi). From what i’ve seen i’d give the animated rendition a 5/10. I am not impressed tbh, the animation style after the last kept going down hill and it’s at lowest point rn. The characters look nothing like their manga counterparts and they aren’t even trying to make them look better, the designs are messed up, the animation is so stiff it’s like you can TELL they used the same drawing and frames to avoid spending money. I am beyond done with SP. That scene with Sarada in the library is just unnecessarily stupid and makes no sense and the lead up to gaiden just shat on ss with the 2 minute date bullshit. People bitch that people who complain are setting the bar too high but? do these people even WATCH anime? Naruto has been shat on by the rest of the anime community for its shitty animation quality, inconsistent fillers and annoying fan base.

‘they just want to meet a weekly deadline!’ then fucking WAIT like other animation studios do…don’t fuck up kishimotos immaculate art, dont destory Tokyo Ghouls story in s2 and don’t help fuel Bleach’s shipping wars you unprofessional shit house. Why are anime like SNK, BNHA and Haikyuu!! held at such high standards? They give themselves time to ensure the best project execution. I am not asking SP to wait 90 years like SNK but holy fuck the amount of fillers and shitty animation quality is a viral joke at this point..RIGHT after the wedding episodes (which were made to be ugly comic relief style to avoid budget overload) boruto was released which already meant screwed up stiff frame animation that makes me so annoyed because SP CAN do better..they did some crisp frames for bleach, some beautiful fluid fights in naruto, some seamless frames in TG and all in all have had some great graphics. If they can pull some amazing animations like that then how good will they be if they fucking WAIT and do the simplest job- give people what’s in the manga since you are shitty writers and animate to the best of their capacity. Stop with the excessive fillers that shit on characters and add plot holes to the original work that the author worked so hard on and simply do your god damn job.

A simple example since -ic yall havent noticed ive been wanking the haikyuu!! series a lot lately- you started this rant, lets look at these two animation frames of 2 hinatas, one more superior than the other

see how the animation literally focuses on one drawing, moving the frame and adding that effect to give the LEAST amount of effort into the animation? Anime is meant to be pretty and fluid, this is literally just MOVING LINES.

look at this fluid ass eye shot where EVERYTHING is thought out, down to the wind motions moving the hair as he jumps. There is more than one drawing of the eye to give the scene fluidity and even the ‘still’ frames such as his hair are drawn more than once to make them move seamlessly and give them kinetic momentum. The hair moves with the wind and the eye focuses on the enemy as he moves. Thats an animation.

In fact, further wanking haikyuu!! (and literally any other series with a studio that gives a shit) here is a fun fact: in an animation of orange boys eyes, they are made to move with MULTIPLE different drawings, as much as SIXTY different drawings for an animation that lasts less than 5 seconds…and then when the studio goes into one drawing animations they make sure to add movements, shadings and vibrant backgrounds to still make everything look appeasing to the eye and fluid. Compare that to SP who do one drawing FULL BODY frames and do their best to avoid spending time and money to yield results that are as beautiful as THIS

In that jump scene the camera angle and fade out is literally just made to symbolize one of the characters view of the match as he is so absorbed into giving the jumping kid the ball and is so singularly focused on the ball…this goes FULL circle (yes they even kept that much attention to detail in mind) when the match is then shown in an objective manner for the audience with the camera angle showing us the height of his jump and it shaking to show us the impact of it all and then fades out again because orange kid is focusing as he spikes the ball…it’s literally a beautiful piece of animation. They went as far as animating an exaggerated idealized CORRECT and accurate to real life volleyball pose..the attention to detail pays off immensely.

Even when on a budget, anime is the art of animation..the entire genre of media is based on aesthetic animation. Every shading, shadow, camera angle given by the director, frame and drawing makes a huge difference to the visual story telling aspect of the story. SP not only fucks up the basic definition of an anime but they ALSO add their shitty writing to top it off.

I love this headcanon???? But also consider, if his boyfriend is Kaminari, Sero’s hair is always super staticky once he’s stopped petting it. Like, his hair just sticks in every direction, it looks super funny. You’re not the only one!! That’s one of my favorite things out of bnha and also one of the reasons why I’m such a fan of the adults of the series - not all of them, but most of the guardians have a great grasp on what they should expect out of kids and what they can ask of them and what they should instead keep them away from, which I appreciate a lot. And some of them (Aizawa, Toshinori from some point on, Bakugou’s parents, Fatgum to say some) have a great understanding of the kids they’re responsible for and make decisions based on what’s right while at the same time accomodating the kids’ aspirations and dreams, which is super amazing because it doesn’t negate the fact that even if they’re just kids they’re still people, you know? They talk to them and understand them and act as guardians without clipping their wings, you never see this sort of things in media tbh so I appreciate it a lot

(you guys sent in so many asks im posting all my answers to the ones you asked at once, so i dont take up your whole dashboard.)

chocolate marshmallow: favorite brands of candy? not sure about brands, but i tried pop rocks and they changed everything i knew about reality and what food is

peach: how do you relax? sometimes i fight nazis. thats a nice way to vent steam. petting dogs or cats or birds or literally any other animal is a winner every time. making food is a good because its constructive and at the end i get food. sometimes steve and i go running. but not early in the morning because mornings are terrible.

coffee: favorite cosmetic brands? i dont wear much makeup but pepper breaks out some sephora stuff when we have to go on tv? i like OPI nail polish.

birthday cake: favorite books? i recently read and loved the harry potter books. im a hufflepuff, just so you know. (Mod Hell loves the Dresden Files, pretty much everything by David Webber or Robin McKinley or Tamora Pierce)

bubblegum: books or movies? totally depends om my mood. movies, maybe, because they can be more of a group activity, but dont require a ton of social interaction.and the novelty of being able to watch films in your own home hasnt quite worn off. but i do like to read a lot.

toasted coconut: the beach or the pool? my beach experiences involve either a lot of 1. storming +fighting nazis or 2. sand in my cool robot arm, which is not fun. so pools. even though im not buoyant enough to float anymore so i wear swim fins on my left arm.

mint chocolate chip: indoors or outdoors? outdoors, when the weather is right.

moose tracks: favorites for manga? orange sherbet: favorites for anime? i read fullmetal alchemist.and then watched the anime. all of it. it was really good, although i feel like clint only showed it to me because of the robot arm thing. its the only manga or anime ive experienced so far, but i really liked it!

blueberry lemon: favorite blogs? i love @iguanamouth‘s crazy animals, and i follow a couple knitting blogs, as well as @dailybadjokes, just so i have some really terrible puns to use when nat breaks out her dad jokes.

superman: do you like sweaters? do i like sweaters. friend, i live in sweaters. i haveta knit em special though so they dont have a left sleeve because otherwise the plates in my arm catch on the knit.

blackberry: have you ever laughed so hard you cried? yes. the first time steve tried out the vibranium shield he missed the rebound and hit himself in the head with the flat side. he flew a good six feet through the air, knocked himself clean out. it was beautiful. i was crying. howard fell over, he was laughing so hard.

cherry: do you drink tea or coffee? yes. it is how i am alive.

raspberry truffle: favorite kind of music? i have a hard time with this one because im still learning so much about modern music. me and thor like listening to heavy metal, and i like tonys classic rock n’ roll, but im also really fond of the music of the 30s and 40s, the stuff i grew up with.

praline: a popular book you haven’t read yet? i havent gotten to game of thrones yet. people keep telling me such and such a character is gonna die, but im not sure how they can have that many dead characters and still have enough people for a book.

(Mod Hell has not, and never will, read Fifty Shades of Grey)

toffee: a card game that you’re good at? so far, all of them. but rummy is my game, friends. i will kick anyones ass at rummy.

mango: when and why did you start your blog? my therapist recommended i write about things that were happening in my life, and mentioned that blogging was a good way to do so. i dont think this was quite what she had in mind, but here we all are, so... anyways, this blog was started on october 10th, 2016.

rocky road: favorite songs at the moment? can i count the entire discography of pink floyd? tony recently introduced me to them and they’re pretty great.

(Mod Hell has been enjoying Down Like Silver’s Wolves, because my taste in music is very very morbid)

mint: the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?one time me an the howlies were having a night on the town and i drunkenly forgot steve was huge and i tried to pick him up (i mean literally lift him. i wasnt hitting on steve) because i thought he was still tiny. i failed. steve did not budge at all. and in the process of trying to regain my balance i overcompensated and fell into the thames. which wouldnt have been so bad if all the howlies and the girls we were with hadnt been right there laughing at me. its probably not the most embarrassing thing ive ever done but its the first that comes to mind.

(Mod Hell accidentally flashed a lifeguard once, so quickly I was never sure if he actually saw or not. Still super embarrassing.)

green tea: favorite flavors of ice cream? yes. all of them. now, please.

If you’re counting this blog, the “new years resolution: 1080p” post got picked up by a couple bigger blogs and is the frontrunner at 21,000+ notes. Original posts at hellenhighwater usually fade out at like 20 notes. So there’s a bit of a gap there.

Mod Hell: black raspberry: do you have any pets? Oh man yeah. I have two cats, Nimitz and Yamamoto. Nim is small and black and puffy and made primarily of homicidal urges. She is the Terror of the Underbrush; the Reaper and Eater of Souls. Yamamoto is 23 pounds of superbly useless cat. Her favorite activity is slowly petting the stair banister post with her paw. I also have a mated pair of domestic Violet Ringneck doves named Vexation and Vendetta who live in my bedroom, though I’ll be building them an outdoor coop to vacation to in the summer. Vex and Ven are the most wonderful idiots. They live life like it’s a spanish soap opera. Everything is very dramatic and seductive and not in a language I understand.)

what are your thoughts about bakugou and midoriya's relationship? platonic, i mean

I live and die for it, every part of the manga in which that relationship is shown progressing is between my favorite parts of the manga and I’ve reread them a hundred times and cried over them way more than necessary - the battle trial one? yes, the end of terms exam? absolutely yes holy shit, the post-license exam fight? god yes fuck me that’s my absolute fav, the rescue arc? shit yes between all the reasons why that arc’s my fave the change in the deku/baku relationship is definitely a worthy of note one

It’s an interesting relationship, a painful one that’s making both of them grow so so so much, a rivalry they both need to better each other and keep each other straight on the path to become two great, all-around heroes - I’m not sure they’ll ever end up having the type of relationship Izuku has with Todoroki or Bakugou with Kirishima, I don’t think it’s possible for them to be friends like that, they’re just too different to properly fit like that and to avoid stepping on each other’s toes every single day of their lives they’d have to change their core personalities too much, but they did end up being able to coexist (Bakugou’s even giving Deku tips!!!) and I do think they’ll be able to cooperate and support each other in the end. If one day they’ll be able to make fun of each other in a friendly manner and egg each other on and be honest with each other without it escalating into a full blown fight I’d truly be happy, that’s probably my main dream for this whole manga. For them to have a healthy rivalry, one in which they can maybe even laugh together. I think it might happen, I’m waiting for it to happen

What a question lmao no, no they never interact with Teru, it’s a crack ship haha I don’t really have a reason to ship it tbh, I just think Teru’s personality would fit nicely with Bo and Kuroo - Teru’s one of my fave characters in Haikyuu and I like shipping my faves around, but he’s interacted with only his teammates and Karasuno so everything else is just crack... I like a whole bunch of Teru ships tbh, bokuroteru is the one I’ve drawn the most for a bit by accident and a bit because they’re the ones with the most entertaining possible dynamics, to me? They’re a bunch of excited silly kids, that’s fun!

I don’t think I’ll ever have Kirishima’s backstory at this point. I’m giving up. I’ll just make up my own version of it. Kirishima’s had a beautiful past with a lot of happiness a great family with loving parents and both older and younger siblings that love him more than they love air, he’s got three pet turtles and a dog and the only reason why he had his hair dyed black was because he went through a really intense goth phase. That’s it, that’s my version, Hori can keep the sadness for himself

As I said once already I don’t really care for Mineta, so including him in stuff when it makes logical sense to isn’t much of a problem for me hah maybe, if I’m lucky, one day he’ll grow as a character and out of the walking trope he is, and that might just mean I’ll start drawing him more by himslef too haha
