This guy has been in drafts since like May cause I had a Pokémon brainrot back then and I think it’s time for them to see the light
They are not my best work (hence why they stayed there for so long) but I still kind of like them and think they are cute

Accidentally turned on anonymous; I’m the one who posted that champion talk.I’m glad you love that route too! I can actually see them doing that(and not just because every like four months Gamefreak Twitter decides to remind people of Ingo’s current fate.
For one, Unova’s legend is built on two twin brothers, older one truth and younger ideals. We got the differences with Alder and Iris for that(and the rivals having Cherrim as Ideals, Bianca as truth, and Hugh as balance) but the twins are literally black and white twin brothers. A third champion can round out the truth, ideals, and balance and Emmet feels perfect for it storywise with Unova starting with twins and ending with twins(bonus if Emmet incorporates grey in his outfit since it’s the mix of his and Ingo’s color scheme).
Secondly, it feels that the regions go in real time. Red and Blue aging matching up with how old Gen 1 was to both Johto and the Unova sequel having that timeskip matching up with their releases. Ingo’s concept art of him being found in Hisui also is listed as “XX years ago” which implies he been there for at least a decade which lines up with Black and White 2 age(excuse me as I crumple to dust-) and also is plenty of time for Emmet to take everything in for better coping skills. ALSO, the constant mentions to Unova and seeing the changes outside of the region. Unova was mentioned multiple times in Kalos, specifically the Subway and Coleress research. In the Ultra Games Grimsley is revealed to have retired from being the dark type elite four member while Coleress is revealed to have been traveling regions to pursue his totally not illegal research. Several Unovan Pokémon received love in Gen 8 with evolutions and the nobles. And of course Ingo was sent hundreds of years into the past(side note: almost every Gen has a ghost. Marowak, the little girl in Pheobe gym, Old Chateau and the abandoned house, the strange house girl, the elevator girl, the trainer school girl, the love letter girl, and vessa. But we never got to fight one besides Marowak. If ghost Ingo comes true, please have a fight and some true closure with Emmet) and wasn’t sent back afterwards. This means so much has changed since the sequel and since many things weren’t answered already like what the original dragon looked like, they could totally do a third and final game as a send off. Having a fan favorite like Emmet be the champion(since the twins are adored in Japan) be a fitting way to conclude their story.
As for Emmet himself, he is possibly the strongest double fighter in the series. The twins are basically champion level fighters and there are even headcanons they wanted to be champions until realizing only one of them could be. Emmet runs a competitive team and in all the media, he’s implied to have only lost to the protagonist and Ingo(in the Manga Hilda merely tied with Ingo. In Masters Emmet reveals he and Ingo practice fights with each other where Ingo hardly loses matches. And in the anime no one could beat them to the point of someone lying that he did to seem impressive) so he’s definitely strong enough to be one. Being champion and thus in the spotlight could also give us more info on the Unova myths, Emmet’s backstory(I have sad headcanons with that), or his relationships with the other people in Unova. But also…Emmet is a double battler, and including Gurdurr and Boldore, the two have twelve Pokémon. We could possibly have our first ever double battle champion, and given Pokémon been adding harder challenges(Ultra Necrozma, BDSP Cynthia, Volo, and final boss of Scarlet and Violet) this could be something they could do at a stand out final fight. In conclusion, less evil Emmet, more champion Emmet(and please Gamefreak! You’ve been building up something for Unova for years, please be good-)
I would love for Emmet to be the first ever double battler champion! He's a beloved character with a lot of potential. I wouldn't get my hopes up since the pokemon franchise has a lot of ongoing stories in world that never seem to progress, or at least we have to wait a long time to get a glimpse of it (pointedly looking at Looker and Anabel, for example). And even when we do get progress, closing the story line seems like wishful thinking. Not that I complain much since it allows for a lot of content creators to go wild, although it would be nice to get some closure in some of them. Gamefreak better let the twins reunite at some point. Acknowledge what you did to those two poor twins, cowards.
On the other hand, I love all your thoughts about this. But but BUT-
Tumblr media
Did you really have to go there. Omg. My heart.

So you just answered a question about Pokémon on planes. And that they need vaccinations.
How does that work for some of them? Like, I can't really see those working on the Klink or Vanilite line. Or any steel type with though skin. How do you vaccinate a Klefki? Or Ditto? Or Trubbish?!? Do ghost types need vaccines if they're body isn't solid? I need answers!
All the Pokemon you mention have a squishy core, organs that either are tough and hard, or flexible and every changing in form.
For the solid skinned ones, vaccines are more or less applied with diamond tipped drills, sometimes lasers, and special formulas that meld better with their dense bodies. Inside every magnemite, every geodude or Klink, there will be some squishy parts. Those parts will be where medics apply the vaccines. Lucky for them, their nerve endings aren’t so reactive, and so this process is not much more painful than a regular method with needles and such.
For the squishy ones. You just...put it on in there. Don’t even need a needle most times. Grimer, trubbish, ditto, all these Pokemon have flexible organs, and their body is basically a mix of foreign bodies and sentient goop. You can put a glove on, take the vaccine vile you intend to give them, and just put it in their body. Quite literally push that bad boy into the goop. Wait 20 minutes, and the body will reject the vial, but retain the liquid.
This is a very quick insight into it, but many places have to know what a Pokemon is, so they can match the best tailored vaccine to them. Rock types for example need a way smaller dose more often than not, but a water type will need a larger dose. Each Pokemon, and their typing, will have specifics for the process, but it is all possible. A lot of Pokemon don’t get effected by some contagious diseases, because of how their body works, so they can skip some of the vaccines other species may have to get. This is only if a trained doctor, professor or nurse says it’s ok though. They’re trained to know that junk, and have the database to double check they’re giving the right Pokemon the right thing.
Medical procedures for tough skinned Pokemon just usually require more drilling. Don’t worry. Small vaccine entrance points soon fill in, and leave no noticeable marks to the Pokemon.
The key to a lot of these wonderful vaccines is ditto. Their cells are usually incorporated to make rejection or reaction less of a worry. Incredible research gone into that, but I’ll be honest, I’m not the one to ask those questions to. There’s so much to ditto that’s useful and amazing, they’re a cornerstone of modern medicine. Did you know they successfully grew a new arm for a Pokemon the other day thanks to that Pokemon? Transplant was a success. Real groundbreaking stuff. We can only hope this doesn’t make them a target for devious groups.

Fellow Piers simp with a trainersona here and a separate oc with Rai: ✨Go for it homie✨ Go absolutely ape! Tell us about her
OKAY
so I've tried doing research about Johto before writing about her since I have little information about Johto.
Johto is based off from Japan (it's more eastern qualities) while Kanto was a more westernized Japan (if you watched Geisha, it shows the transition from Japan transitioning to more western style after the war.)
So the name Katsumi was given. I believe her name meaning is "eternal beauty" but I'm not sure.
If I were to describe Katsumi, she'd be a Ninetales or a Fox. She has this air about her that draws her in, it's soothing even. But as she battles, she's more two faced than she seems, being more mocking and maybe even animalistic than her kinder self.
She does restrain herself from her more dark side, because a common rule as a maiko and geisha, is to always look and be pretty to capture the attention of others.
Katsumi is based off from the Kimono Girls in Johto, the Kimono girls are actually Maiko's as they tie their obi's sash long while normal is tucked in or tied short (same with a Geisha's) however, in Pokemon, they don't wear heavy makeup that way they can battle appropriately while still maintaining looks.
Since I'm basing Katsumi from Maiko's, she learns various arts, from dance to music to cooking. And of course, even when away from Johto, she still practices dancing (she prefers dancing over music) which has caught several pokemons attention in the past.
Her Johto team consists of:
Lucario
Gyrados
And Chansey.
Her Galar team will be:
Gyrados (from her Johto team)
Eevee (who will evolve into Umbreon)
Deino (who evolves into zwelious then Hydregion)
Munchlax (evolves into Snorlax)
Kirlia (evolves into Gardevior)
And Puncham (evolves into Pangoro)
I won't disclose when she catches them (which will be in the story I'm writting) nor their abilities and move sets. I can tell you that Katsumi favors Dark Types.
Katsumi makes her first appearance in the Gym Battle Opening Ceremony! Her exotic looks catching many of the people's attention.
Having to fight the Yell team since they were blocking Budew Inn, she does her first official Pokemon Battle in Galar with her Gyrados who swept them away with Twister!
Katsumi calls out her pokemon rather eloquently. Like, "Let's dance amongst the water, Gyrados", Katsumi is a lover of drama and theatrics, so she likes to put on a show which is apart of her two faced-ness.
If I were to place Katsumi as a Game Character, she'd be an Easter Egg and a very Hidden Boss. The main Characters wouldn't be able to fight her unless level 100 as the final boss is also level 100, meaning she's far more challenging than she looks in the beginning.
You'd be able to fight her in the tournaments after becoming a Galar Champion (beating Leon) but because she makes rare appearances, it's hard to fight her. If Leon and Katsumi ever get matched up, it usually ends in either Katsumi winning or a draw depending on ALL of your Pokémon level. (All 100 = Katsumi winning)
Her relationships would mostly be the children of the house she moved to as a tenant (which is in the same place for the Opening Ceremony hence why she hasn't caught any other pokemon in Galar yet)
Katsumi prefers pokemon over people. People means maintaining herself to appear appropriately and having to be more polite than she wants to do to etiquette. While with pokemon, she can bond with them more easily through being herself (her more rougher side).
As for her league cards, she has two special league cards which is dependent on which version you're playing.
Sword version is her more wild side, showing her face during her battles (more on Leon or Raihan's battle since her face shows more during their fight)
Sword version notes: seeing the ever so gentle Johto girl being fierce to rival Raihan is an odd sight, but pleasant to finally see a crack in her ever so pretty mask.
Shield version gets her more softer side, showing her dancing in a field without knowing about the picture.
Shield version notes: A picture that was taken in secret, you can see how gentle she is with how she stands, the pokemon around her watching her still form. How can someone be this elegant?
Her normal League Card is just the standard card but she angles herself towards the left (our left mind you) with her head angled towards the camera with a serene smile.
As for her relationship with Raihan and Piers, Raihan was intrigued by her, knowing the Dragon Type master in Johto, and seeing her appear on Pokegram every once in awhile (until she got Kirlia) sends a shiver down his spine since he can sorta get a feeling that she's hiding more than she seems.
Piers never met her, but has heard of her from Team Yell and Marnie when they met up in Spikemuth. When Katsumi appeared herself, he nearly choked seeing a "Pretty lil' dainty thing in this dump". his words, not mine. But because Piers oh so happens to be a dark type gym leader, Katsumi had immediately grew attached to him which shocked a lot of people.
Katsumi, the goddess from eastern lands, paired with THE Piers? The shock was an understatement.
Piers did appreciate her adoration to dark type pokemon though. And her need to be on the same level as him in battle as it was the Johto way to be fair.
If we wanna dive into the romance interests then:
Raihan is absolutely clingy to Katsumi and always wants to fight her. It's his way showing how devoted he is to her by challenging her to fights often after training and resting. And he hopes Katsumi would notice. If we went into a more NSFW style, Raihan is the epitome of clinginess. Because he's so tall compared to Katsumi, he'd use his jacket and put it over her, forcing her to either poke her head out to see or to try and escape which ends up him wrapping his arms around her. And when he does capture her, Raihan would drag her to a more secluded area and start marking her neck with bites and hickies. If he gets REALLY worked up (specially after a battle against Katsumi) he'd take his coat off, wrap it around her, tie the sleeves and then sling her onto his shoulder and with his long ass legs, he'd be heading to his apartment.
For Piers, he's not really affectionate or seen as affectionate, but he would often be near Katsumi whenever they were both free. Whenever he is affectionate he'd wrap an arm or two around Katsumi and bring her closer to him. For NSFW, Piers would be slightly clingy, but not as bad as Raihan since Piers is busy with being an artist (music artist btw) and training Marnie to be a gym leader. But whenever they're together, Piers would be resting his head on Katsumi's shoulder or head depending on their sitting position. Anytime Katsumi gets a call or goes to escape somewhere, Piers would grab a hold of her chin and kiss her rather passionately, which would leave Katsumi breathless since Piers literally has a long tongue, and he uses it. If Katsumi is still out of it (or continues to try to escape), Piers would take her to his place or to the campsite.
Katsumi has long black hair which reaches to her lower back, having four beauty marks total on her face, two right below her right eye (our left), one below her left eye (our right) and one at the right corner of her lips (our left).
(I think of drawing as a mirror, if you draw a character's face you have to think about the blemishes placement. If their back is to you, then it's both of your rights and lefts while facing each other is their left is your right and their right is your left. Sorry if it's confusing.)
She has black eyes (whenever in an intense battle, her eyes darken with no highlight making her appear soulless but it just means her facade is cracking) and thick eyelashes, her lips are painted red on her bottom lip while the corners of her eyes are touched with a rouge since she is a Maiko Trainer.
(I made up that Kimono Girls are Maiko Trainers, meaning they wear less makeup and have a battle/formal kimono, a traveling kimono and sleep wear. Normal Maiko's wears the standard makeup and wears more formal kimono's. Maiko trainers require to wear a sort of eye shadow at the corner of their eyes in replacement for the lack of white makeup on their face, it is to signal other Maiko's what status they are. If they wear red/rogue eye shadow, then they are an advance/master maiko trainer. If blue, then they are an intermediate. If pink then they are a beginner. Maiko trainers also have to wear certain color palettes to signal what stage they are which often correlates to their eye shadow. Since Maiko's in general wear lighter colors, they wear pastels or just a light shade.)
Katsumi wears a light pink kimono that fades to a light red at the ends of her kimono. Her obi sash being a deeper red while her obiage is white. Her nagajuban is red as per tradition, her pocchuri buckle is silver flowers, while her okobo shoes still maintains the red straps and still contains bells in them.
Fun fact about Maiko's, Maiko's are usually 16-20 years old mainly because Maiko's would choose to marry around that age, while Geisha's would have to retire or runaway (depending on time period) to marry. Geisha's aren't allowed to have a spouse, the most they can have close to a spouse is an escort.
THIS IS ALL FOR NOW! I'LL PUT UP SOME DOODLES ABOUT KATSUMI (WITH AN OCCASIONAL RAIHAN/PIER OR TWO)

Fall Like Rain On Sunday, Pt. 10
Jason woke up around five am, bleary and in a tangle of blankets again from yet another nightmare…Sweat-soaked, he peeled himself out of his bed with a grimace and stripped first himself, then the bed, tossing everything into his washing machine before turning on the shower and stepping inside. Lukewarm woke him up a little better than hot right now, and felt better on his scarred skin; he leaned heavily against the tile, head tipped back as his waterfall nozzle rained down on him. The familiar sound of the washer going was a comfort, and piece by piece, he brought himself back to the present, breathing slowly, evenly, just as Bruce had taught him all those years ago…
“…Fuck.” He sighed out, and started washing up, glad for the indie shop he supported down the street that made its own soaps, shampoos, and conditioners. They were bar form, of course, but the natural scents helped ground him…anything heavily chemically scented was too triggering, too much like the factory he’d died in. A lot of things triggered that…tannerite, for one, which was why in all his varied explosions, he’d only ever used C4. Iron…He unconsciously touched the cheekbone that Talia had had her surgeons rebuild, for even the Pit couldn’t do everything. Not on a body that had been so badly brutalized that it’d been a closed casket funeral…
“Knock it off, Todd.” He growled out to himself, scrubbing furiously now. Fuckin’ don’t go down that path again, Jason…you know where it leads. Besides, you promised you’d make waffles this morning. Can’t leave a lady waiting. Steph’s smile filled his mind, and Jason relaxed, as he had for months now around his Batgirl…and he felt a tiny smile tug at his lips. He didn’t have a waffle iron; he rarely did more than griddle cakes, eggs, and bacon for himself, and that’s when he felt like cooking, so it was a good thing he’d woken up before his alarm; he had time to run to the nearest Lux-Mart. He finished his shower, relaxed now, and other than rescuing his book from the floor and setting it on his nightstand, left his bed to airdry for a while; he’d learned that lesson the hard way.
Dark jeans, boxer-briefs, a soft tee shirt, socks, his boots, and a hoodie, and he was ready to brave the pre-dawn crowds. He twirled his keys on one finger as he made his way down the stairs to his garage, and side-stepped the engine for Roy’s Corvette, unlocking the truck and opening the door with a flick of a button. It was dark still; small wonder, it was just barely five forty-five, and the sun wouldn’t be up for another hour or so…the garage door slid closed behind him with a whisper, and Jason set out for the Lux-Mart, following the main roads this morning, since they weren’t clogged yet by the early morning commuters. A few early birds passed him, and he waved at the Batmobile as they both continued on out of the city, since the nearest of Lux Luthor’s monster all-in-one stores was in the suburbs on the mainland.
Jason’s phone buzzed, and he answered it on the dash with a grin, glad for his blue-tooth dashboard connection.
“Hey Pops.”
“I thought that was you, Jason…what has you out so early?” Bruce’s voice was warm, exhausted, but for once, actually pretty damned friendly, and Jason hummed a little, smirking to see the ‘mobile keeping pace with him.
“Well, I promised I’d bring Steph waffles this morning as incentive to get her homework done…and then I realized I didn’t have a waffle iron.” Bruce laughed at that, low and surprisingly genuine, while he heard a squawk from Tim. Now, he didn’t…completely hate his replacement in the Robin line-up; certainly, he adored Steph and Damian. But Tim was…well, everything that Jason hadn’t ever been, and Jason was still too aware of how similar Tim and Bruce really were. Dick had commented on it, last time he’d come up from Bludhaven, and if Dick could see it…well. Jason still felt like he’d been the downgrade from Dick, and that Tim was the super upgrade.
It wasn’t true…but emotions could be ugly, ugly things.
And Tim had stolen his ex-girlfriend’s waffles.
“Well then, that makes complete sense…do you two need anything from us? We had a busy night dealing with Boyle again.” Jason winced; Ferris Boyle had been a problem since Bruce’s early days, even before Dick, and Jason hated the man almost as much as he hated Joker. Totally aside from how he’d fucked up Victor Fries, his actions regarding Nora had been absolutely appalling. He wanted custody of her so that he could experiment on her…and since Victor is now a supervillain…goddamn, I’m glad Bruce was able to win custody of her.
“Bastard…was he after Nora again?”
“And Victor. We convinced Fries to come back to Wayne Inc. and talk to us about Nora’s future; we’ve made some serious progress towards a cure, and with his research, we might just have what we need. And I’ve been working on something to help him as well…But we can talk about it later.” A yawn broke his sentence, and Jason smiled fondly.
“Go home, Pops; Steph and I will take patrol tonight. You two take the night off.”
“…Thank you, Jason. I really appreciate it; Damian and Tim do too.”
“Yes, thank you, akhi.” Damian’s voice was softer over the phone, tired, and Jason smiled, though he grit his teeth when Tim spoke up.
“Sure, thanks Hood. Hope you two actually get some patrolling done, and don’t just make out on a roof.”
“…Well, Timmy, I’m quite certain we’ll keep our professionalism at the fore. After all, we wouldn’t want to attract undue attention…like Kon did the other night.” Jason responded, voice sickeningly sweet as Tim choked over the phone call, and Bruce made an inquisitive noise.
“We were going over tactical plans!”
“Tim, I’m sure it’s fine.” Bruce’s voice was gentle, but curious, and Jason felt his grin stretch to maniacal proportions.
“Oh, of course you were! Silly ol’ me, ‘tactical plans’, of course! Must’ve been wall plans!” Jason replied sweetly, and Tim choked again, a strangled noise coming over the line. Bruce snorted suddenly, clearly understanding now, and Damian just sighed; Jason could almost hear his eyes rolling.
“Drake, do not give Todd grief for kissing; we all know you regularly have intercourse with Kon-El.” Tim’s voice was pitched even higher now, babbling as Bruce snorted again, clearly holding back laughter, and Jason snickered.
“Damian, Lil D, I want you to know how much I love you right now.”
“As I love and cherish you, akhi. Please do tell Grayson this.”
“DO NOT TELL DICK ANYTHING, JASON, I SWEAR TO GOD.”
“Then don’t steal Stephie’s waffles again, and I won’t~” He purred, and Tim let out a heavy sigh.
“…I apologize to her later.”
“So good to work with you, Tim, it’s just such a pleasure!”
“God, I hate you sometimes.” Bruce was laughing now, deep and highly amused, and Jason gave the ‘mobile a salute as he turned off towards the Lux-Mart, still snickering.
“Love you too, Timmy; good night, you three, I’m off to waffle-maker hunt.”
“Love you too, Jay; good luck! And tell Steph we love her too for me, will you?” Bruce asked, over the other twos’ groaning, and Jason chuckled.
“Of course, Pops. See ya.”
“See you.” The call winked out, and Jason pulled into the Lux-Mart, still grinning. He grabbed up his phone, double checked his wallet, and headed into the store, grabbing a cart. He didn’t want to buy a ton of stuff…but he knew he’d need more room than a basket. Appliances first; he grabbed a waffle-maker, one with interchangeable plates, and from the small selection, picked a Millennium Falcon and an Eevee (both for Steph), since they’d traded favorite Pokémon a few weeks ago, then favorite films. He was always looking for Pride and Prejudice/Sense and Sensibility stuff, or even just basic literary things, but hey, he liked Eevee too (even if his favorite was still Rapidash), and Star Wars was a familiar favorite from his childhood.
From there, he grabbed utensils that he knew he didn’t have, then a few things from pharmacy to cover his personal stores for the week. Bandages, wraps, gauze, alcohol…all the usual stuff, and then he made his way to the grocery area, where things were getting a little bit busier. Two boxes of waffle/pancake mix, maple syrup, and a carton of eggs; a package of bacon made the cut too, as did a gallon of milk, a bottle of his favorite fancy protein juice smoothie, and as he made his way into the produce section, a bag each of blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries. He also got a couple apples, good for a snack as well as baking into the batter, and a pair of pomegranates. Bananas too, just as small bunch, and a small tub of butter.
On a whim, he also grabbed sugary snacks for later, mostly Hostess cakes and some Little Debbie stuff, and a big bag of Chex Mix; not healthy, no, but they held up to patrols well, and he’d gone hungry too many nights to ever feel good about not having food around. Besides…his stay in the Lazarus Pit hadn’t just accelerated his healing factor…it’d forced his metabolism onto a higher level, and now he could almost match Kon pound for pound with food. He also grabbed some pizzas; just in case, he liked to have them. Checking his watch, Jason bit off a swear; it was seven am already, and it was easily a half-hour drive back into Gotham.
He got through self checkout with ease, and hauled his finds out of the store, leaving the cart at the entrance and legging it to his truck. To his surprise, clouds that hadn’t been visible in the darkness were rolling over the whole of Gotham City, heavy thunder rumbling out on the ocean, and in the low light from the rising sun, he made a few quick calculations. He had just enough time to get back to the city before the rain really started; he loaded up his backseat and tore ass out of the parking lot, hopping on the freeway in record time. He glanced around, confused at the lack of cars…then laughed to himself.
Of course it was empty; it was Sunday. I think I’m getting to love Sundays now…Jason thought to himself as he gunned it back to Steph’s place, settling back for the drive with a sigh. Just then, the familiar strains of ‘Home’ came onto the radio, and Jason grinned, then started singing along.
“I’m goin’ home…to the place where I belong…”

hello ! i really like you’re blog uwu ! can i request raihan with a s/o who caught latias from hoenn and spends a lot of time with her in the wild area, but raihan gets jealous of latias, so he actually dresses up as the legendary pokémon to get his s/o’s attention ?
Between Latias and Latios, I hope I didn’t get the two mixed up at all when writing this…
————————————————————————————————
Raihan has been accustomed to getting a lot of attention. And to be honest, he enjoys it.
And while he hopes his fame hasn’t changed him, it has.  When he doesn’t get as many likes on a picture, or if he sees a drop in followers, he can’t help but wonder if he did something wrong.  This is a similar case.
It’s ridiculous to be jealous of a Pokemon, right?  But you almost seem to spend more time with your Latias than him.  Granted, you’ve known Latias longer, but still…
At first, he decided to try to get closer to Latias. It’s a dragon Pokemon, after all. And a legendary one, too!  He wanted to see what you saw in her, what made her shine.
Well, that didn’t help.  Latias is amazing!  She’s intelligent, not just in the Pokemon sense, but in a human sense.  It’s as though she understands him when he speaks. Plus, its physical abilities are amazing… Invisibility, flying at such high speeds… Apparently, Latias “speaks” to you, but Latias never said anything to him…
In short, he understands why you’re so attached to her.  But that understanding didn’t help him feel much better.
It was when you went to the wild area FOR A WHOLE WEEK that he finally broke. It’d be one thing if you bought you phone.  He would’ve been thrilled if you asked him to tag along! But, no, none of that.
As he browses his feed – a task that takes up a considerable amount of time each day – he gets ads.  It happens to everyone.  But due to his research search history, legendary merchandise kept popping up.  A few of which included Latias.  He made a mental note of them for possible future presents.
And then, there they were: matching Latias and Latios hoodies.  They were adorable. He already had his typical hoodie with dragon teeth, so dragon Pokemon themed hoodies wouldn’t be too out of the ordinary for him.
Yep, impulse buy. One of each, added to his cart, bought with 1 day shipping.
When you returned, he immediately sprung into action, asking you out on a date.  You ended up going to the Captain’s Table in Hulbury first for dinner, then went over to the lighthouse to watch the sunset over the ocean.
He told you to turn around and close your eyes.  You’re a little surprised by the request, but you do so.
You hear some shuffling, and then a zipper.  He says you can turn around.
You find him wearing a Latias hoodie, hood up to emphasize the facial details on the hood itself.
You can’t help but laugh.  It doesn’t seem to suit him at all!  If anything, you think he’s more of a Latios – they’re cooler in appearance and personality (you think), while Latias is a cutie.
You tell him that, and he pulls out the second hoodie, saying the Latios one was technically for you.  Makes a small comment that since you like Latias so much, you’d like him even more in the hoodie.  It doesn’t come off as a mean comment; the tone and delivery makes it seem almost like a joke.
This does make you think a bit, but you decide to talk about it later.
Eventually, the two of you swap hoodies, as you still insist he’s more of a Latios.
And yes, this low-key makes him want a Latios.

Underground Uprising’s “Artist of the Week” - D. Carter
We are back with the Underground Uprising's "Artist of the Week" and this time we have a director/videographer to showcase!  D. Carter, the man behind "To the Top Visuals" is the first "AOTW" to  be chosen for their skills behind a camera and after you get to know him and his work a little better, you'll be a fan or an eager artist that wants to work with this diversely skilled man from Arizona.
Tumblr media
Where are you from?  What was it like growing up there?
"I was born in Mesa, Arizona. Raised in the East valley of Phoenix, bouncing from Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, and Tempe. I've been here my entire life. I moved a lot, but mostly throughout the east valley. I love AZ, it is a place I'll always represent and call home. I've met several solid people who've played huge roles in my life. I've had a lot of great memories and a lot of bad one's. But I'm sure it's like that anywhere you are from. The one thing i love about Arizona is its difference in nature. You can go from the Phoenix desert at 120 degrees and take an hour and a half drive up North and be in cooler weather and surrounded by pine trees. Growing up here has been a long experience and journey. I don't know any other place better than I do Arizona."
What kind of videos/movies/tv inspired you as a kid?
"I grew up loving a lot of sci-fi and comedy films. "Star Wars" brings out my nerdy side and i could watch those movies over and over despite how many times I've already seen them. I also loved movies like "The Matrix" , "Romeo must die", "Predator", "Alien", "Rush Hour" "Chappelle show" and stand up comedies to name a few. As a kid I was heavy into "Pokémon" and "Yu-Gu-oh!" I don't care what nobody says that was my thing. Lol. I really enjoyed movies or shows where their was a main character who was separated from the rest "The one" or they had special abilities that no one else had. Some badass "lone ninja" type stuff. Lol. I actually try implementing that on my own projects. I think it's cool."
When did “To the Top Visuals” start?
"[It] originated as "Carterora Productions" about two years ago. As I was building my portfolio as an artist going by "D Carter", I needed content. I didn't have the money to afford photo shoots or music videos all the time with what I was trying to do. I knew I needed to put things out but I was limited. I hated that feeling. I originally invested into camera equipment with a business partner who had experience in multimedia in hopes to grow as an artist and build a business shooting music videos and doing photo shoots for other artists. My partner and I had conflicting schedules and (life happened) at the time and couldn't run it full force attacking it head on together like i was intending to. So I ended up doing it by myself. I started building relationships and taking on big projects like Weddings, Corporate videos, small business videos, artist photo shoots, artist music videos etc.. I really had no experience what so ever with a camera or knew anything about it. But I did my research and learned more and more over time. I had to learn the ins and outs of a camera, a drone, editing, all while having my own style to it. It was very over whelming for a while because I was also trying to be a music artist. Then all the sudden I was a videographer and a photographer.
Tumblr media
I've had my fair share of gigs and the experience is really what took me to a new level. Although I still am the learner and have much more to figure out. It has skyrocketed my opportunities and building relationships being able to it all.  Until I met my manager, (Danielle Ellis) aka "The Matrix" We built a team together under the label "To the Top Music Management". She has helped me immensely to grow as an artist. We decided to partner and run the multimedia business I had built, together and rebrand the name to match what we had already started in To the Top Music management. To make things simpler, thus the name "To the Top Visuals".
Favorite director?
"I loved Tarantino films, Spielberg, and of course George Lucas for giving us star wars lol."
What do you both think of the current state of AZ Hip Hop?
"I think anyone can agree that Arizona is a hotspot for talent. I've met so many talented and credible like minded individuals who are all here trying to do the same thing. The driving direction in AZ hip-hop is in full acceleration. One day i believe AZ will be known for Hip hop like California, New York or Atlanta. One driving force will be Respect the Underground and what they have put on for the city, year after year. Especially with the showcasing of talent at each years Annual Hip hop festival."
Advice for up and coming creators and artists?
"My best advice, do what you love to do. Not because it's cool. If you truly love the ART and can dedicate your life to it, then take every opportunity thrown at you. I mean that as in right away. Not next week, next year, or when you're ready.. Because you will never be "ready". The time is now fam."
Biggest lesson learned in your career?
"My biggest lesson as a music artist, was to stop making music for other people. Make music that YOU like. Don't follow the trends. Separate yourself from the rest. I see to much of the same things nowadays. I also learned that this is a business, not a hobby. You need to have both a business mindset and a creative mindset or else this will be very difficult for you. It was for me. The last important thing I learned is don't listen to what people think or criticize you on about your art. And that goes for the multimedia side as well. Your art will never be good enough for some people and that's okay. You have to accept that. The ones who enjoy what you do will follow."
What are you most proud of, what is your biggest accomplishment so far?
"What I am most proud of in this journey in the music business and multimedia business is the experience itself. Never did I think 4 years ago I would be where I am today, strategizing and executing a clear vision with Mic Myers, Talika, KMRN, Genesis, and Drk Matr, all of which are a part of our label “To the Top music management” as well as hosting Hip-hop night at Good Time Charlis in Chandler. I've worked with or had the opportunity to surround myself with several successful artists and media artists such as Whitney Peyton, Sincerely Collins, Fat Belly Filmz, Shot by Dub, Delly Everyday, Bag of Tricks Cat to name a few. I've collaborated with super producer Kato on the Track, on a beat and had the opportunity to meet and learn from him. I've taken pictures of several local artists whether it be photo shoots or performance photos for groups like The Kotton Mouth Kings... The opportunities are out there.. I'm proud of my journey and I cant wait for what's next."
Tumblr media
Who would you like to collab with in the future?
"I would love to collab with Futuristic one day, but I'm sure everyone would want that since he's one of the faces of AZ hip hop right now.. J Rob the Chief is another artist i believe is next level. I'm open to collabs with anyone who is serious about this honestly. Eventually I'd like to expand outside of AZ and collab with other we'll known artists. But overall I want to grow and help others grow too."
What’s the next move for To The Top Visuals?
"To the Top visuals has a few videos coming out that we are excited about. One of which being Whitney Peyton. She is an incredible talent and has given us the opportunity to collab with her. So stay tuned for that. Otherwise, To the Top Visuals is open for business and taking all inquiries for video, photo, beat production, studio recording, album art or cover art, or even if you need help learning the business side of music etc.. So hit us up we got you!"

#PokemonGo #Niantic #Wayfarer #Abuse #CyberBullying I’m currently suspending ALL of my nominations for PokéStops in South Field, and my local area due to a pattern of very bad abusive behaviors collectively done towards me from a group of local individuals whom I’ve actually never ever done anything, but are trashing me behind my back.
I DO NOT APPRECIATE players ganging up on my nominations and ABUSING Niantic’s system to accuse me of being a Nazi and committing a crime! How dare u! It’s like I’m having my own version of the Warren/Sanders back-stab!
WHO in their right mind would ACTUALLY BELIEVE that I’m a Nazi?! WHO would ACTUALLY believe that I would ABUSE Niantic’s system to harm others in my community?
This has been a constant pattern of behaviors of a number of things dating back to June, and this confirms a lot of things I was already catching onto, and suspecting. This also strongly confirms my #1 suspect, and I already suspect up to 9 other persons as well as alt accounts.
Tumblr media
Do u have any idea how much research I put into this spot since 2018? I didn’t just pull this out of my ass. It’s not only historical but prehistoric. There is NOTHING DIFFERENT about THIS SUBMISSION than all of my others that went through.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But I’ve noticed that whenever I publicly divulge where and when I’m submitting nominations and mention it publicly on social media, or the local Discord thread, those locations get rejected for reasons that make no sense at all.... but, the ones that did make it through were ones I never told anyone I was doing.
Before Wayfarer even went live, I had reservations about sharing my intel, which I’d been gathering since 2018 hoping to turn into a PokéStop eventually... but, I decided it was better to let go of it, so that others could do it. I gladly, And freely gave out my details, added info to Google & Yelp and even went to long lengths of so much research to share which maps to check, which historical archives to use.
I noticed that much of the ones I openly shared with others often got stupid reasons for rejections. So, we had to come up with better methods to submit nominations with less room for potential rejections like having cultural n historical information or good photography exposures. But, when they didn’t tell others they resubmitted, it got accepted.
Also, I was very vocal about my plans and wishes for which locations I’d been scouting out the best locations for Community Days, especially Public Parks! As a Mom I care about a safe place to play, free parking, and safe access.
I recall feeding my intel to others, publicly, and being told by a head person (whom I trust) that my info was being shared with someone whom wanted to do those locations. Specifically, South Field And Stella Tirrell Park.
I wanted those spots to become high quality places to play Community Day, but I HAD A STRONG INKLING that these places could become a PokéGym since there was an older PokéStop there. I told people this. Yet, no one bothered. Months blew by, and nothing...
Well, I finally hit Level 40 at the end of 2019 so I hustled to get my submissions done. It took days for me to plan out which ones I wanted, and which ones would be more likely than others to go through. But my Stella Tirrell submissions were screwed. I thought it was very strange.... but I still had 1 that go frozen in the cue. That one didn’t even go into voting until last week. And because no one was actively trying to screw me, it went through and now Stella Tirrell has a PokéGym.
But, also, I turned the Jet into a PokéGym in South Field. I did the work. And it paid off.
But I never told anyone that I was doing those.
Well, someone assumed it was another player. So I asked who they thought did it.... and THAT was the person at the top of my list as a suspect. This person also is very well liked and many people believe this person to be a nice person.... I know this because I also fell for the “nice guy” act until their behavior shifted by June. This person was also the very first local player I ever met at a Raid, and used to say hi to me driving around at night in places I was playing the game. This person has been so overtly passive aggressive towards me, and also tries to play it off at other times like it’s fine. But the cold shoulder treatment is so overt when they show up to Raids. Acting nonchalant but also actually repulsed by me, or that I don’t exist. Or: sure! I’ll help you.... sorry, I have to leave. Over and over!
Well, after mentioning a number of things recently ( if u scroll through my posts) u can see what I had to say about my recent successes getting 2 new PokeGyms myself that were MAJOR. Stella Tirrell and South Field. Any of these local players could’ve submitted any of those nominations but never bothered to BECAUSE the intel came from me.
So, when that nomination FINALLY wet into the VOTING on Thursday Night, by the morning it was screwed.
When I checked the email and saw the reasons why, I WAS FLOORED!
This was NOT just some instance of a lazy person reviewing and just picking any reason. It says “the Niantic Community of Players” decided this.
Think about that.
Multiple people went looking to find ANYTHING matching the locations where they knew I wanted PokéStops and meticulously went through ALL of the rejection reasons and SPECIFICALLY picked to accuse me of committing a crime!
Not claiming my photos were bad.
No. They accused me of abusing Niantic’s system to commit a crime to harm people in my community.
Well, I let others know in my community, and on social media.
I find it to be very strange than within a few hours a different PokéStop nomination went through in South Field. It’s just so strange!
Dude! Just play fair!
Even if I didn’t like someone, Or didn’t approve of them, I WOULD NEVER EVER ABUSE NIANTIC’S system to hurt Another player, or try to destroy their credibility to submit a PokéStop nomination. I would NEVER stoop so low as to lower my self worth enough to be THAT MALICIOUS! I have self respect. And a person that has self respect is respectful to others, and treats others with dignity.
I also wouldn’t go out of my way to try and kick people out of the game, or stop them from ever playing the game again, or stop having access to the Discord server.
There’s definitely been some very bad things done to me that qualify as bullying. I don’t like it. But, I don’t want to kick them out of the game permanently, or have them banned from the Discord server. I’m not evil like u are. I also know that some of these people are kids. But, it’s pretty messed up when it’s adult men. U literally shame yourselves.
Just because I’m getting old, don’t have my own car, am jobless & live in poverty, and I can’t memorize every name of every single Pokémon ever, or can’t memorize every single PVP Combo or Raid Couter doesn’t mean I’m stupid. I’m not a male player, and I can’t change my gender because I’m a woman -an aging woman! I’m not young. I’m not sexy. And u hate me for some unknown reason. But u really need to check YOURSELF !
This was TOO FAR!
There was NOTHING wrong with my nomination. I looked up so much information about South Field Naval Airbase from multiple sources. I have read through so much archival data. I’m so much more informed about this area than anyone else. But anyone could do this if they just bothered to! Like, JUST READ! I’ve been working on this since 2018! It mattered to me. But also, other people were HAPPY and THANKFUL for the work I did. But I can’t write an encyclopedia as a nomination.
I did a Good thing.
Nobody likes BAD DEEDS nor those whom do them.
If u think that those of u whom all actively decided to attack me using Niantic’s system are people that u could trust, or whether they trust u, think again. They will ALWAYS remember that u all got together to attack my reputation, and it will always be in the back of their mind. Eventually, someone will always either screw u, or it will backfire in some way. Their is no honor among criminals, thieves, gangsters. If they can do it together with you against me, what makes u think at some point they might not do it to you the moment it suits them? Or, they will always assume u did these kinds of things.
Just don’t do it.
You know it’s wrong.
Just stop it, and move on.
You really need to think about what kind of person you really are, what your values are, and what kind of person you are vs what kind of person you SHOULD be.
If u have been putting up a front of who u want people to think u are, and I know you are, then u need to get to the root of why that is.

thanks for answering!! i hope you don't mind if i send more charas...how about green and/or lillie?
fhgjkfdg aw yea thank u!! hopefully this doesn’t publish before i’m done typing lol
also this definitely needs a readmore bc i got emotional abt Green oops
Green
favorite thing about them
first of all: the fact that Green canonically has a rivals to best friends arc with Red fills me with so much joy and YES they are on their alolan honeymoon you cannot convince me otherwise
okay like. gen 1 Green just perfectly encompasses what it’s like to be a ten year old in a way? like ofc he’s written like a kid bc he is a kid, but i feel like the writing on him just feels so genuine as compared to some of the other 10 yr old rivals you get in other regions. even though he’s kinda a brat at the start, he kinda eases up a bit as you go along your journey and starts giving you progressively nicer/more praise-y end lines when you beat him (going from “i picked the wrong pokémon!” to “so, you are ready for boss rocket!”) but still retains this childlike rivalry and competitiveness and i love that about him
and like. fucking beating him at the Indigo League still completely breaks my heart because even after he did become the champion at age 10 the first thing that happens is you beat him and Prof Oak just yells at him for being bad at things and like. ow.
this is why i headcanon that Red actually took awhile longer to get to Green like please. please give my boy a chance to be happy and proud
also Red was caught up with Team Rocket anyway so i imagine he must’ve fallen a little behind at some point? anyway
the development on him across regions is so choice!!! he’s so much more mellow and even kinda melancholic when you find him in gsc/hgss, like he’s calmed down over a few years and he obviously misses Red so much but like, it’s clear that Red is kinda the reason Green does settle down and he seems to have worked on his character and become a nicer person - and he still has that sassy flair to him! he’s just got that gradual slope from asshole rival to kinda aloof gym leader to friendly/sassy battle legend and aaaaa i love my boy so MUCH
also huge point: he’s so fucking driven??? he’s got the most drive and the most passion for battles/pokémon in general out of all the rivals i feel. he’s only closely matched by Silver, but Silver seems to be more aggressive than passionate, and somewhat out of necessity too (like, Giovanni abandoned him what was he to do), whereas Green just really like. he genuinely just cares so much about battles and about pokémon in general! he literally calls you in hgss and just rants about how many different kinds of pokémon there are in the world!!!
also in Alola he’s like???? just so sweet?????? he congratulates you and is like hey you’re really strong lets battle like!!!!!!!!! supportive boy!!!!! he has come so far over so many generations and i cry
also on Four Island when you play frlg he legitimately says “Be smelling ya!” when he leaves and how do you not love this idiot
least favorite thing about them
i mean. while i get that you beat Green right after he becomes the champion in the kanto games i feel like there should’ve been more pomp and circumstance for him and i’ll never forgive gamefreak for giving this boy his dream, then making you rip it away from him, and then watching his own gramps yell at him for fucking up like. again it’s that drive, i get why Red keeps such good pace w Green but i just feel like he worked so hard and he deserved so much better than that
also while i’m very biased towards him bc Big Emotions, i feel like if i knew this boy irl who was constantly i’m so great and you’re a loser i would probably punch him eventually lmao. in theory it’s kinda endearing but as a real person that’d be grating
favorite line
on one hand, “smell ya later” is so fucking iconic, but on the other -
“I’m Blue. Man, this guy called Red brought me down in a heartbeat. I haven’t seen him in a long time…I wonder where he is and what he’s up to… Come to think of it, you look a little bit like Red. Yeah, you do. Just…Just a little bit. Whatever…”
my namelessshipping heart
ALSO NOT CANON BUT GREEN RANTING TO YOU ABOUT RED AND GETTING SO DISTRACTED THAT HE FORGETS TO GIVE YOU THE POKÉDEX????? BIG GAY
brOTP
for long elaborate headcanon reasons, i see him as being a good brotp with Kris - i headcanon her as also being really driven the way Green is, but more quiet about it, she’s kinda a good balance to him and they probably do pokemon research together. i also feel like she kept him sane while Red was still missing/before they found him on a fuckin mountain
OTP
do i really need to tell you that i’m 100% namelessshipping
like they perfectly balance each other. Green has all this energy and all this spunk and Red is just like… so opposite of him y'know? he’s quiet and he’s more measured in his behavior i feel, he doesn’t really rush into things as much, and yet they both really just took Kanto by storm when they were kids, and i like how they have this foil dynamic and are both still so successful? they’re so different and they complement each other in that way, and they both find success in their own ways
like one of the reasons i hate that Green’s championship gets undersold so much is that he did beat you to the punch, and he has been one step ahead of you, and there’s so much passion there and it’s so loud - and yet you as Red are just as driven, you take down Team Rocket, you’re always right on his tail, so close but not quite there, you’re the only one who can keep up with him and you’re the only one he cares enough about to slow down for
so like. idk with even all my headcanons about namelessshipping aside (and i can infodump those another day lol), i feel like the in-game representation of them just works. they just work so well together, they balance each other without ever holding each other back, and there’s something really beautiful about that in a relationship y'know
…..i feel bad abt not putting as much infodump about isshushipping now but oh well
nOTP
i don’t really have a notp with him? i kinda like. i basically just do namelessshipping, but i don’t get a visceral eugh when i see other ships with him, just kinda a well it’s not nameless so i’ll be on my way. idek what other ships w him are popular?? i’ve been in nameless hell since 2012 so
random headcanon
while Red is still living on Mount Silver, Green is not coping well with having him so far away, and so Green massively overworks himself to the point that he keeps just not being in his gym sometimes bc he’s bouncing between the gym, training multiple teams, pokémon research, and ofc going to visit Red whenever he can. this leads him to be kinda temperamental after he’s been working on 2 hours of sleep a day for like a week until he just has an emotional meltdown and crashes, and then he gets right back into it because he has no self preservation
…….. nicer headcanon; Red can only cook two (2) foods, so Green cooks all the food for them when they move in together. he has attempted to teach Red how to cook, but Red pretends not to understand so Green will keep making him food. Green knows Red is faking it and doesn’t call him out bc he thinks it’s cute
unpopular opinion
look i’ve played through classic red version a few times and when i say he wasn’t that much of a jerk, i do genuinely mean he was not that much of a jerk. he’s like ten. ten year olds are just Like That. i guess this isn’t too unpopular anymore but it was Back In The Day and in some parts of the fandom he’s still seen as a jerk and like Bro He Is Ten In RGB/FRLG cut him some slack
also genuinely unpopular - Green is taller than Red. i know namelessshipping has fallen into the bara Red and twink Green trope but i refuse to let go of tall Green/short Red fuckin fight me why dont you
song i associate with them
a lot of the Pray For The Wicked album by Panic! at the Disco gives me Green vibes, more for the sound than for lyrics necessarily, but for some reason Roaring 20s just like. has the sound of Green to me. it’s somewhere between flamboyant pride and underlying insecurity that i think really encapsulates Green (or at least his subtext)
favorite picture of them
i genuinely love his let’s go concept art he’s such a sweet good boy??
and for the life of me i cannot find the op source on this but this is my fave pic of Green/namelessshipping in general that i’ve had saved since like 2012 maybe???
Tumblr media
yeah if anyone can help me source that i’d appreciate it bc reverse image search only brings me to pinterest and random wattpad links :/
update: source seems to be the artist くる (pixiv id=982894) on pixiv, even though the original post got taken down (ty anon!)
Lillie
favorite thing about them
by now i guess you know im a sucker for character development, but i think they did a really good job with her!! i feel like her turn is a bit more in moments than it is with Green, who gradually evolves (lol) over the course of Kanto/all the gens overall. you see more discrete moments where Lillie starts to shift and gain confidence in herself and i am so proud of her ???? like the way she gets excited when she sees Olivia doin’ her z-move stuff, she starts buying her own clothes and getting ahead of you, etc etc
and like, she still has moments where she’s scared, there’s still some fundamental Lillie in there yknow? you don’t lose any of that softness that characterizes Lillie, she just like… she gets better, she develops without losing her Lillie vibe and i love that abt her. she overcomes a lot of the shit she had to deal with when she was stuck with Lusamine, she stands up to Lusamine eventually, and ghfdkjsg gah she’s a sweet gorl i love and appreciate her
also like. the writing on her backstory is so subtle in-universe. like yeah she literally looks like Lusamine’s daughter and you see her in the opening cutscene leaving Aether, but as the protagonist - like as Selene lets say, there’s little hints about where Lillie came from, and if you suspend your disbelief and put yourself in the pc’s shoes, there’s subtly to her character arc that i like
also like. when she changes her outfit and starts being more protagonist-y, like more confident and kinda bubbly instead of shy??? love that shit it’s so cute can i have custody of this child pls
least favorite thing about them
i like. sometimes feel like she’s too soft of a character for me to really get into? like i love her and Hau, they’re sweet good friends, but i tend to personally gravitate towards characters that create a little more tension (ie Green and N)
(though on that note, Hau can be kinda savage. he just calls Faba out and sarcastically calls Gladion “a ray of sunshine” at some point i think?? Lillie is just very tender and i will support her forever, but i think that also makes her almost too soft to keep me fixated on her yknow. it’s not even a flaw in her character but just not something i fawn over as much)
favorite line
“I’m so glad I got to meet everyone. I’m so glad I got to meet you.”
like that ending kills me but that line almost feels like. I Feel That So Much like i feel so happy to have met all these new characters and to have played these games, and i feel like some of the player’s energy and enjoyment of the game is channeled into this last line of hers
also GET IN THE BAG
brOTP
probably her and Hau?? idk, i don’t have a specific brotp for her but i like her just hangin around w the other Alola kids, so like her, Hau, Gladion, and the protag kids. they’d raise hell together and Lillie continues to be the only one with some impulse control
(Gladion also has some impulse control but keeps getting annoyed by Hau and so he gets dragged into their nonsense anyway)
OTP
Selene and Lillie is. Good. idk what the ship name is but it’s canon
nOTP
i dont even know if people ship her with Gladion but incest is a big no-no in my house
random headcanon
when she goes to Kanto, i bet she’d pick Bulbasaur as a starter if she was given the opportunity - and if not, she’d probably catch a wild Vulpix
unpopular opinion
idk if have any unpopular opinions for her??
song i associate with them
i have no reason to associate this with her but the Rainy Day theme from acgc just. has a vibe about it. i think a lot of ac music feels like it suits her
favorite picture of them
i found this art of her through a lofi remix of her theme awhile back and it’s so pleasing to look at? her hair is nice and the colors are so warm n happy gjhkfdgf
if you read this far, congratulations!!! and i’m sorry

Pokémon Headcanon Meme from @memeingovermemes
Hi there! My name’s Tsuki and I’m from Kalos! I figured I would just answer all of these as my introduction to you all!
☀️ : Who is your character’s partner Pokémon? Do they prefer to stay outside of their Pokéball? What’s their dynamic with their trainer?
Back home, my partner was (and still is) Pumpkaboo! When I was around 9, my mother and I were taking a walk and came across a lone Pumpkaboo on our normal route in the local forest. I got so excited and my mother helped me catch her and ever since, we have been best friends! She is shy like me and really only likes to stay out of her Pokéball when we are at home or somewhere familiar to her. She’s EXTREMELY sweet, but very protective of me since we’ve been together for what feels like forever.
🌗 : Does your character have a favourite Pokéball? Which ones do they use the least?
My favorite Pokéball would have to be the Moon ball. I remember the first time I ever saw one, and immediately fell in love. Space has always been super interesting to me and seeing a ball with the moon on it, just made me so happy and excited. I once tried to be slick and try to catch an Umbreon in a Moon ball. I learned VERY quickly that it wasn’t going to work. I still managed to catch the Umbreon that day though so I wasn’t too sad. The ball I use least is probably the Luxury ball or the apricorn balls. Ones super expensive and the others are SUPER rare.
💾 : What is your character’s Pokémon team? Any Pokémon they don’t  have currently in their team (in their PC Box or elswhere)?
As of right now while traveling through the Galar region, my team consists of, a “Gigantamax” (I think that’s what they called it) Corviknight, My Pumpkaboo, Cinderace, Silvally (Whom I caught as Type Null while traveling through Alola), Flapple, and Zacian. I think back home I caught maybe only 50 Kalos originating Pokémon and MAYBE 40 Alolan Pokémon. In Galar, I have completed my Pokédex and then some!
😀 : Describe one of your character’s relationships with their Pokémon.
My relationship with my Pumpkaboo has such a different dynamic than my other Pokémon. She’s basically my sister at this point and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I remember when I was little, I was extremely afraid of the dark and honestly I still kind of am, but she would act as my nightlight and make sure nothing scared me at night. Most people think that all ghost Pokémon give you nightmares, and while some do, she has never done that to me.
👥 : Does your character travel with anyone aside from their Pokémon?
So far during my time in Galar, I’ve been traveling alongside my friend “Panda”! He’s learning as much as he can so he can officially be a professor one day so any time I have a question, he’s right there to answer to the best of his ability! Right now, he’s teaching me the ins and outs of putting together a great competitive team.
♠️ : Does your character specialize in a Pokémon type or do their types vary? Do they pay much attention to type match-ups?
I don’t really specialize in any certain type of Pokémon. Though I do prefer having a great speed stat so I am able to move first (unless the opposing trainer uses a priority move). I do my best at remembering type match ups. When Pokémon become dual types is when I have the most trouble though.
🗻 : What type of journey is your character on? Are they tackling the Pokémon League, engaging in contests, on researching endeavors, a ranger scouting for danger? Or do they have a more ‘normal’ occupation? What type of life do they lead?
I recently decided to take part in the Galar Gym Challenge. I am definitely nervous doing these challenges, but I’ve been learning so much from each and every gym leader here! Back home, I was more of a breeder/groomer in my spare time.
🌟: Has your character met any Legendary Pokémon before? If so, what were the encounters like? Do they have any Legendary Pokémon on their team? If not, do they believe in Legendary Pokémon?
I have only met two Legendary Pokémon so far. In Alola, it was Type Null whom I managed to evolve into Silvally while in Galar, and Zacian in Galar. Both encounters were extremely scary and nerve wracking to me. It took so much patience and effort to get Type Null to trust me back then, but I don’t regret it one bit. Even now, there are days where he has his moments of distrust, but I always manage to calm him down and remind him that I’m not here to hurt him. He prefers to sleep near me at night as well just like Pumpkaboo does and honestly I wouldn’t have it any other way. Zacian on the other hand acts like a guard dog at night and if something is wrong he alerts Silvally before waking me up. It’s definitely a weight off my mothers shoulders knowing I’m being protected so well though.
🍼 : Are there any Pokémon your character has difficulty handling? Are there any they find easiest to raise?
Right now, Silvally has been a little hardheaded and doesn’t listen to me sometimes. He hasn’t really been aggressive or anything, but I might have to take him to a professor to get him checked out because I’m worried something’s wrong. As much as I love Nurse Joy, I don’t think she has the knowledge on him in that regard.
🐤 : Does your character use Daycares? Or do they manage all the training and caretaking themselves?
I do my absolute best to take care of my Pokémon myself. I also prefer to oversee my Pokémon when it’s mating season as well. You learn a lot about them when you’re the one in charge and I love learning!
🕶 : Are there ‘troublemaking’ Pokémon on your character’s team? If so, how do they tackle these troubles?
I don’t think I’ve ever really had a troublemaker on my team except MAYBE Mimikyu when he’s having a bad day. But usually when that happens, I take him out for some “alone time” with me and I treat him to special poké-treats and playtime.
🥘 : Is your character any good at making Poffins?
I’d say I’m pretty good at it! Definitely not the best, but my Pokémon seem to enjoy the ones I make!
🎊 : If your character takes part in contests, what category is their favourite? What are the best at? What are they worst at?
Oh gosh. I’ve tried my hand at contests...they definitely aren’t for me. I’ll just keep to making Poké-treats and grooming my Pokémon.
📱 : How full is your character’s Pokedex?
I haven’t completed my Kalos dex, nor my Alolan dex as of yet. However Galar was the first dex I was able to complete with the help of my friend whom I call “Panda”.
✨ : Has your character ever encountered a shiny Pokémon ? Do they have one in their team?
Funny enough, my Pumpkaboo that my mother helped me catch whom I brought to Galar with me, was shiny! I remember asking my mother why she was purple instead of orange like the ones I saw in my textbooks from school, and she explained to me that my Pumpkaboo was rare and super special. Recently in Galar, I encountered and caught a shiny magikarp in this instance event they called a “raid”. I was able to get him to evolve into Gyarados and to be blunt, I think I prefer his shiny form over his natural colors!
🎲 : Has your character ever been to a Game Corner or equivalent? How much time do they spend there? Have they ever gotten really lucky at the slots?
I’ve been MAYBE a handful of times with Panda, but I usually don’t spend a lot of pokédollars. I’m never lucky when it comes to playing games like Panda is, so I just end up watching him play and cheer him on.
🌑 : How does your character handle villainous organizations? Have they ever encountered one? How did that go?
Back home, I was utterly terrified with my first ever run in with Team Flare. I’ve always been super shy and take things to heart too much. By god when I had to battle Lysandre, I thought I was going to faint, that’s how intimidating he was to me. But as I continued to travel, I learned new ways to cope and now in Galar, I’m not so scared. Team Yell for sure isn’t as intimidating as Team Flare back home as of yet.
⛔️ : Has your character ever mistaken an owned Pokémon for a wild Pokemon and tried to catch it?
I probably have when I was a tiny child, but as I’ve been older to understand really how catching Pokémon works, I have never mistaken one for a wild Pokémon. Thankfully.
🚴: Does your character own a bicycle? Can they ride it? Are they constantly lectured by their professors for riding it where they’re not supposed to?
I do have one! I obtained one a little into my journey in Galar! It’s super cool! It has a Rotom inside it to help me go faster and ride across water! I haven’t been lectured about riding it though. Now back home however, I had a pair of roller blades and my professors would CONSTANTLY have to remind me to take them off when going inside anywhere because I would always forget I’d be wearing them.
🎣  : Does your character fish? Do they have any luck with it? If so, what’s the biggest Pokémon they’ve caught? What’s the smallest?
I do here and there. Most of the time I don’t really find anything exciting. The biggest thing I’ve found was a Luvdisc in Alola and the smallest was a Wishiwashi in Galar.
🎃 : Do any Pokémon types unsettle your character? Do they have a phobia of them? Why?
Oh my gosh! I have such a phobia of bug type Pokémon! I had a scary run in with a spinarak a good few years ago and have had the phobia since. I’ve never liked bugs to begin with though so this bad experience just made it worse.
📖 : Did your character go to Pokémon School? If so, was it public or private? Were they homeschooled?
I did! I went to a public school as my parents were never gifted with the kind of money needed to send me to a private school. Though, I met Panda YEARS after I finished school through another friend of mine. As a child I absolutely hated school, but as I grew older, I became so much more interested in learning about Pokémon that I grew to enjoy it more and more as the years passed.
I hope you all were able to get to know me a little better and I hope I can learn more things from new people soon! Feel free to send me asks as I’ll answer them as best as I can!

To be the Best(Kanto): A Pokémon Fanfic Chapter 1: Brother and Sister
“Brrring, Brrring” The ringing of a telephone broke the silence of an otherwise dead quiet building. Not three rings in, and the call was answered by a purple haired woman with fiery red glasses to match her eyes and a mahogany colored business suit.
“You’ve reached Team Rocket headquarters, this is Matori speaking, how may I transfer your call?” She asked into the other line. If one was far enough way, only incoherent babbling could be heard, but Matori, keeping the receiver close to her ear listened to every word and smiled, “I’ll get him on the line as soon as possible.” Matori pressed a button on the intercom next to her and spoke into it, “Sir, you have a call from the Saffron City prison, I’m transferring it to you right now.” In what seemed like nanoseconds, Matori no longer took to the call, instead, a tall man shrouded in shadows took over, his sleek beige cat Pokémon Persian on his lap, napping away and allowing its master to stroke it.
“This is Giovanni speaking, if this is Jessie and James calling, hang up now.” The man said before a few seconds of silence. “Ah, Butch and Cassidy, my favorite cohorts, what is it you need this time? Another bail out of prison? I’d be happy to do so.” The man’s assumption was shot down as the conversation continued, “I see... yes... a marvelous idea... perhaps with that insolent child away at who knows where, we can finally get some things done around here... We’ll follow through with your plan... The Kanto region will never suspect a thing...” Giovanni chuckled darkly as he hung up and continued to pet his Persian.
“Mrrrr... Miaow...” Persian happily cooed as its master pet it affectionately.
“Soon, my pet, we’ll have all of Kanto to ourselves, everyone, that’s EVERYONE will answer to only one name: Team Rocket!”
—————————————————————
The World of Pokémon, a place filled with creatures and people of all shapes and sizes, though it may seem impossible, humans and Pokémon have been together since the dawn of time, and have grown and evolved to share the small world with which they inhabit. Some people use Pokémon to fight each other in hopes of one day becoming Pokémon Masters. Others have them as pets, and some even use them for research purposes. With 18 elemental types and over 800 creatures in the world with more being discovered day by day, the world continues to flourish and adapt to make these two species continue to coexist in harmony even amongst conflict.
In the beautiful Kalos region, a small sleepy town by the name of Vaniville received a special wake up call when a bright red and white bird Pokémon flew in from the sky and landed on the mailbox of one house, reached into its bag-like tail, and pulled out an envelope before finally depositing it into the slot of the mailbox.
A young teenage boy watched the sight in anticipation and wonder from the window on the inside. He had messy dark grey hair, almost black, and lighter grey eyes, as well as a bright yellow sweater, concealing a navy blue t-shirt underneath, which matched his pants, and black shoes to match his hair. As soon as the Pokémon deposited its mail, the boy ran outside and smiled brightly.
“Thanks, Delibird!” He shouted as he waved goodbye to the mail Pokémon
“Deli-Deli!” It cried, waving back before flying off into the horizon.
The boy excitedly opened the mailbox and saw the very same envelope Delibird had delivered, not taking into account any other letters the Pokémon may have dropped off.
“Addressed to: Francois Robin Jr...” He read as he tore open the envelope hastily, praying in his head that what he opened contained what he was so desperately waiting for. He closed his eyes tightly and reached inside. Thin pieces of paper, rectangular shaped, two by four feeling. He narrowly and slowly opened one eye... and the other one shot open in excitement when he finally unveiled the contents: two tickets for a one-way trip to the Kanto region. “Yes!” He shouted before running excitedly back inside, “Maria! Sis! Maria!” He cried as he entered his room, amongst all the Pokémon books that stood tall on his bookshelf next to his bed that had its covers cast aside to the floor, there was another bed in the same room, this one was fluffier and pure white, in contrast to Francois’s maroon red bed sheets. In the bed was a teenage girl, about Francois’s age, but perhaps a month or so younger, unlike her brother, her hair was light brown, which complimented her hazelnut eyes, and her pajamas were light pink, she had her head buried underneath her pillow and groaned.
“Frankie... What time is it...? Can’t it wait til I wake up...?” She complained groggily.
“Yeah, it could, but then we might miss our flight...” Frankie said, this comment piqued Maria’s interest as she lifted the pillow from her head and groggily stared at her brother.
“Flight? What are you talking about?” She asked with a yawn as she rubbed her eyes.
“Only... THIS!” Frankie wasted no time in shoving the tickets to Kanto right in Maria’s face, and just like that, she was wide awake and snatched one from him in awe.
“No way! They came?! For real?!” She asked
“Yeah! I got up at 6:00 just to make sure I got them the moment they arrived!”
“You got up at 6?” Maria scratched her head in confusion, “You went to sleep at 5:00 if I’m not mistaken...”
“I know! I’m really sleepy and I wanna drop dead from exhaustion right now! But I can’t and I won’t! This is too good to disrespect with a fainting spell! Maria! 14 long years of waiting... And today’s the day we finally become Pokémon trainers!”
“No fooling! I need to get ready!” Though Frankie knew Maria well as being laid back and somewhat lazy, he was happy to see her as ecstatic as he was about such an occasion. When both were infants and needed to be occupied for a bit while their parents focused on something, Frankie and Maria were sat down in front of the TV to watch official Pokémon league battles. Maria watched in intrigue, but Frankie couldn’t believe his eyes, the biggest and toughest Pokémon were what piqued his interest the most, as such a small young man, showing off with a huge Charizard or Gyarados would be sure to strike fear into opposing people’s hearts and make them think twice before messing with him.
During summer months, while Maria watched tv, exclusively Pokémon related shows be it mystery or cartoon, Frankie was reading every last bit of information on Pokémon he could. He didn’t know when exactly he would become a trainer, but he wanted to be ready for it, as such, he was able to memorize nearly all known Pokémon’s movesets, typing, evolution lines, and locations to find them, and while catching them all wasn’t a goal of his, he did want to one day stand with the best, no matter how long it took, and as a growing boy, seeing a few pretty faces here and there was a bonus to his eventual travels.
While Maria wasn’t nearly as well versed in Pokémon as her brother, her consistent viewing of Pokémon related shows opened her eyes to all the kinds of moves Pokémon could learn, and whether or not they were good, she just had to see the moves executed in real life for once.
Frankie was in the kitchen making breakfast, bacon sandwiches with fresh Moo Moo Cheese, in anticipation for Maria to make herself presentable, though the smell of delicious food attracted someone else, his father. His father was huge, dark skinned and somewhat squinty eyed, his hair was jet black like his sons, but his eyes were as brown as his daughters, the two take a lot more from their mother, who had moved to the Alola Region in the far South to pursue a more well paying job opportunity, but both sides still keep in touch, and remain loyal to each other even to this day.
“Good morning, son.” Frankie’s father said in his deep rumble voice, not too different from a Charizard’s.
“Hey, Papa, breakfast is ready!” Frankie replied, causing the older man to chuckle
“That’s my boy, ah, if your mother could see you now... and she said getting you involved in the culinary world would be a waste of time!” At this point, Frankie’s father, formally known as Mr. Robin grabbed a sandwich and helped himself to Orange Juice, “I hear Maria in the shower, is today what I think it is?”
“Yeah! I was getting a little worried, but the tickets finally came!” Frankie showed his father the tickets, who let out a booming laugh
“Good! Good! You’ve been waiting too long for this day! If you ever get to Alola, make sure you tell Mom I said Hello, and that I’m ready to cook for her once she gets home.” Mr. Robin tussled his son’s hair, earning a chuckle from him
“I will, Papa... I hope my first Pokémon will grow to be big and tough just like you! I want a Charmander! Getting to fly on the back of a huge hulking Charizard, breathing fire, striking terror into people among the mountains and on the ground, riding into battle—“
“Well, I don’t need to ask if you’re excited, I suppose! Maria must be too if she’s up this early!” At that very moment, Maria came into kitchen
“Morning bro, morning Pop!” She said, rejuvenated from her slumber. Maria donned a mahogany colored sweater with brown leggings and boots and a pair of dark purple suspenders. Her outfit complimented her brown eyes and sharp light brown hair done up in a ponytail well. “Is that breakfast I smell?”
“Sure is, better start eating up, we don’t wanna miss our flight!” Frankie said as Maria grabbed a sandwich
“Wait, you just barely got your tickets today, the day of your flight?” Mr. Robin asked
“If we’re blaming anyone, it should be the mail people” Maria said with her mouth full before swallowing, “Frankie’s been keeping updated on the delivery of the tickets ever since he ordered them.”
“I was crying two nights before thinking they’d never come in” Frankie admitted
“Well, whatever. You two best get a move on in that case. Your old man can guard the fort all by himself well enough.” Mr. Robin glanced at a Poké Ball on a shelf hanging above the kitchen cupboards, right next to it was a photo of him when he was ten years old and a small chubby blueish Pokémon, a Munchlax, and next to that picture was him a little older with his fully evolved Snorlax.
“We know, Papa...” Frankie said as he and Maria hugged their father tightly, “We’ll miss you...”
“Yeah... But you’re gonna do good, ok? Good looks ain’t the only things you took from papa, eh?” Mr. Robin asked his son as he ruffled his hair, earning a chuckle from him. “Same goes for you, Maria, it’ll be good for you to get moving around anyway.”
“Yeah... Moving around...” Maria said with a slight smirk, thinking of the pleasant thought of getting a large flying Pokémon for her to ride on when her feet got tired.
“Now I love you two very much, but you need to get out of here! Quick! Go go go go!”
“You’re right, papa! We love you too! We’ll see you later!” Frankie said as he ran in place in anticipation, followed by Maria saying,
“If we don’t come back, tell our story!”
“Don’t say that!” Frankie yelled as Maria chuckled, both rushing out the door and into town as their father smiled.
“Good luck you too...” He said before looking to the sky, wondering what their mom would say had she been there.
—————————————————————
The plane was a distant walk over to the grand Lumiose City, so Frankie And Maria had to pick up the pace as quick as possible.
“Maria, come on! Get those feet moving!” Frankie cried, his sleeplessness seemingly gone away in exchange for pure excitement, as Maria walked behind him
“I would if you slowed down!” She complained
“If I slow down we’ll miss our flight! And I’m not missing our flight! Cuz if we do, I’ll snap.”
“Still... It’ll be a while ‘til we can see Kalos again... How about we power walk and take everything in one last time?”
“Well... I suppose that’s... not a bad idea.” Frankie then turned to the wilderness that existed beyond his home town, “Don’t worry, Kalos! We’ll be exploring you soon!”
“Well said! Continue to lead the way, bro! At a slower place...”
“Yeah... sure thing...” He said with a slight blush, and with that, the two young siblings were off on their own for the very first time, expecting to see many new things. Whether it be Pokémon not native to Kalos, beautiful women and attractive men, different smells, or even the fresh tasting Kantonian air, both couldn’t be any more excited. However, their anticipation would be met with something much, much more different than anticipated...

Round 5: VS Turtwig- Legends Part 5
Hello everyone! Sooo, I had a whole plan for Jasper's chapters and then I scraped them lol Cause I'm chaotic like that lol. So, I made some edits to the ending of Chapter 4 which changed how this chapter begins. Basically, I removed the argument and ended it with a more diplomatic ending. The reason is that in light of everything going on in the world, I didn't want to have my male leads experiencing conflict with male leads right off the bat when I know my female lead won't experience the same. So, I decided to make all three have unique experiences core to their development and character.
There's a lot of pain in the world so I want to alleviate that. However, I feel it necessary to make this known moving forward. This author is a black queer man who supports Black Lives Matter. So a lot of my stories will have emotions and plot-lines geared towards the black experience (modified of course since this doesn't take place in our world). I feel like it's necessary to make that clear moving forward.
And before we move onto lighter things, I also wanna say Rest in Power Chadwick Boseman. You were loved and still are for your amazing contributions to the lives of black peoples and for being an icon that young black actors can strive for.
Nowww, on a lighter note. The song of choice for this chapter was all over the place lol. But I eventually settled on My Sanity by Thrii. They're amazing and that song is so beautiful.
Without further ado, I hope you enjoy the story!

Round 5: VS Turtwig – Legends Part 5
Location: Veilstone City Date: August 4th , 3000 Time: 3:00pm
"Ight," Jasper finally said with a smooth grin. "I'll take your word for it."
Today hadn't gone as Jasper expected. Not surprised there. His days never followed a set plan. Something always came up and disrupted the course. Rocking the boat until he tumbled into the waters and swam for safety. Other times, however, he was surprised with a gift.
Much like today, he chuckled.
Jasper accepted the package from the cute guy. Had to be from Oreburgh with his purple miner hat over his short coils. Dressed the part, though the orange belt was a nice touch. Way better those gaudy belts the miners wore around Veilstone.
The package matched Jasper's aesthetic. Star-themed with his name written almost like constellations. Whoever this was from had great taste. Maybe Jasper could borrow some stationary from them? Regardless, he tore open the package and found three gifts—a timer ball, a letter, and some gadget.
"A pokémon?" Jasper snatched the ball and examined the transparent top. A turtle of some kind slept inside.
Mommy nudged him and flashed another encouraging smile. "Go on," she urged with cacturne mimicking her every move. "Let's see 'em?"
Everyone watched him, awaiting his next move. Even Kito stopped eating for this! Though the little looked fed up with all the waiting. Tapping his feet with arms folded across his tiny chest. Jasper chuckled. If Kito was ready for it then there was no reason why he shouldn't be.
"Ight—c'mon out, buddy!"
In a burst of light and smoke, the pokémon appeared. Much greener than he thought with a twig on its head. Still cute though. Even though it yawned nice and wide without care.
"A turtwig?" Mommy frowned.
Turtwig? Now that was name Jasper remembered. He learned about them in history class. Super rare pokémon that Pokémon Professors researched in Sinnoh. One of the Pokédex Holders had them too if he remembered right. Diamond, was it? Yeah, Diamond of that comedy duo.
But why me? Something soft nudged against his legs. Jasper looked down and smiled. Looks like Turtwig finally noticed him. Little guy smiled at him with those droopy yellow eyes of his.
"Professor Kapok gave you a turtwig, huh?" Baryte mused with furrowed brows. "Weird. What else is in there."
Guess this Professor Kapok didn't give out pokémon often. Much less to strangers. Jasper didn't have any teachers who matched the name. Although, there was this cool guest speaker who always asked him questions. Said something about having the eyes of a pyroar—whatever that meant. Jasper never paid it much mind.
"He gave me this weird-looking gadget," a handheld painted light yellow with purple stars, "and this letter."
A letter addressed to him in perfect script. Jasper snorted. Academics sure loved their cursive writing. Nonetheless, he opened the envelope and took the letter inside. Written in cursive as well, but on more star-themed stationary.
"Greetings, Jasper." Arceus, even the writing sounded intellectual. "I hope you remember me. Spoke at your school while you were just a litleo. Yet your eyes burned with the passion of pyroar. Such ferocity in your moments—I knew you'd be a force in the future."
So, it was them. Jasper assumed they were just another scientist. One of Daddy's colleagues perhaps? He met some of them in the past. Whenever he brought Daddy dinner during overtime hours. His coworkers always gushed about Jasper. Even teased Daddy about having the coolest son ever.
Their words…well, maybe he paraphrased a bit.
But this Professor Kapok came to his school. Taught the best lecture on dark type pokémon he ever sat through. Left without a trace, only to give him a gift years later. Jasper didn't believe much in faith, but this lined up too well not to be!
The letter soaked Jasper's mind with flowery metaphors. A few questionable ones, sure—The hell does "a blazing star in the void" mean? But he pushed through. Poetry was never his strong suit. Though Baryte took to it with ease and explained that stuff for him.
Smart guy, Jasper decided. Though, no surprise there. Baryte gave off the vibes.
He finished the letter shortly after. Only noticed then his trembling hands. The teardrops pelting the paper. And the soft arms hugging him from behind. The sensations struck at once. His heart led the sensation, pounding in beat to his sobs.
Little turtwig even hopped into his arms. Little turtwig—a pokémon he just met—came to comfort him with soft nuzzles to his chest. Jasper accepted each brush and hugged the little guy closer to his chest.
Professor Kapok gave him a gift to treasure. Not just in this new pokémon. But the opportunity of the lifetime inscribed in his words.
"I never enjoyed seeing the lights of stars dimming away," the letter had said. "So, for you, I'll send a private nurse for your mother. So, you may take your journey uninhibited and breathe life into the star burning within you."
Jasper emerged from the bathroom refreshed. A grin slapped across his face as he hung a dry towel around his neck. Perfect for catching the water dripping from his shrunken afro. Had to love washdays. Never failed to leave him as stress-free as the towel slung around his waist. Almost made the cold shower worth it.
Almost. Jasper stilled loathed them with a burning passion.
I guess they good for something, Jasper shrugged and walked back to his room. They eased away the sores from his morning workouts. Plus, he felt less tension in his soul.
Still hate 'em though. The disdain, however, didn't last long. Once he slipped into his room, he found the cutest surprise. His new turtwig stood at the door with a fish-eating grin.
Now this made the shower worth it. "You waited for me, Kobe?" The little guy nodded. Even licked his wet legs. Jasper laughed. Such a sweet little guy—unlike Kito who lazed around on his bed.
I gotta thank Professor Kapok when I see him. Maybe buy them a gift. Though, Jasper didn't know where to start! Science wasn't his forte; maybe Baryte had some suggestions? He seemed the type.
Regardless, Jasper had more important business to attend to. Like getting dressed. And he wasted no time throwing on his clothes. Truth be told, he had this outfit picked out for years! Well, sort of —a few changes as his style evolved.
Ge unzipped his stunky track top, showing off his favorite starry night tank top. Paired well with his royal blue track shorts and silver compression tights. Finished off by slipping into a pair of purple and black sneakers.
"How do I look?" Jasper struck a pose. If he had the mass, he would look like all those famous bodybuilders! Especially the ones down in Orre. Now they were massive!
Kito only nodded, bored with it all. Figures—never gave Jasper any credit! So what if he saw it a million times? Kito needed to learn from Kobe. Now he had the perfect amount of enthusiasm as he jumped around and cheered. Jasper grinned. Finally, someone appreciated his swag.
Half of being a trainer was looking the part, right? The half came from being prepared. Jasper already packed up his murkrow travel duffle with the necessities. Now, where did he put his belt?
Ah ha! There it was, hanging off his desk. He strapped it on and clipped his dusk balls in place. Now, he was ready for anything Sinnoh threw at him!
"Jasper?" Mommy stood in the doorframe with cacturne beside her. Her eyes glossy as tears streaked down her face. "You look so handsome."
Jasper blushed and rubbed the back of his head. Maybe it was too early for handsome. He still had to pick out his hair. Couldn't go out with a shrunken 'fro! Especially if Mommy wanted pictures like always. No way he'd embarrass himself again!
"I want you to know this before you leave," Mommy started. "Something I'm sure you know, but reassurance never hurt."
Mommy walked to him. Slowly as if every step burned away at her energy. In some ways, it did. Jasper knew it did. Not just from the illness, but her pride. Back in her day, Mommy rose to the ranks of the Elite Four and mastered Dark-type pokémon. Even conducted extensive research on them. It was, honestly, how she met Daddy. And the two fell in love instantly. Or so they say. Grownups loved telling love stories.
She reached him drenched in sweat. Her breathing labored as cacturne scolded her. Thank Arceus for that guy. Mommy's partner and caretaker. He knew her better than most and never took his eyes off her. It set his heart at ease to know she had him while Jasper left.
"Your father and I are proud of you. Regardless of what path you take. And we'll support and cheer you on through hardships. So, please, don't forget to call home."
Smirking, Jasper hugged her tight. "You don't hafta worry, Mommy." After all these years, his dreams felt closer than ever. "I'll call home and I'll come back. Just you wait."
Time to follow the stars like Professor Kapok said…or whatever that letter meant.
"So, you're ready now?" Baryte asked with a smirk.
Jasper rolled his eyes. Wasn't his fought! Mommy refused to stop taking photos. Only Arceus knew what she planned to do with them. Especially the ones with his shrunken afro! She loved showing those off to company. Parents loved embarrassing their kids, Jasper figured. Must be some form of payback from their parents or whatever. Not that he cared.
Okay, maybe he did. If only to stop her from showing those photos to his coach again.
Mommy played a cruel game, but Jasper rose above it. Besides, he had bigger issues to solve. "Yeah, just gotta swing by Lake Valor." He stated, slinging his duffle over his shoulder. "I left Kula there in the morning."
Baryte accepted that and followed him there.
Truth be told, Kula enjoyed Lake Valor more than his room. Not that he blamed her. Jasper always got up early to relax by the lake. Sometimes he spent the morning bathing in the solar rays as his pokémon played. It was easy for him. Under the soft embrace of the lake, he felt at ease. Energized with peaceful energy as the tension eased from every fiber of his being.
On the way there, Jasper boasted about the lake. Encouraged Baryte to take a swim there sometimes but backed off when the miner admitted he couldn't swim. Fit his aesthetic— swimming rock-lover? Jasper laughed.
They arrived at the lakefront easily enough. Jasper knew the route well and took all the best shortcuts. Encountered a few pokémon along the way, of course. And a few trainers who loved losing to him. What could he say? When it came to battling, Jasper held his own.
And so did Baryte. His cranidos rammed through the competition with an impish grin. Had to love it.
When they arrived, however, Jasper felt a shift in the atmosphere. Spirited pokémon lived in Lake Valor and infected the air with bursts of energy. On a good day, he heard the roars of a gyarados breaching free of the crystal blue water and blew a powerful spray to rain over the land. Much like this morning.
Yet the lake was silent. And icky energy crawled through the air and stung at his bare skin.
"This is Lake Valor?" Baryte frowned beside him with a strange look behind those glasses. "It's…somber—not like you described."
Somber…an aura that didn't blame in this lake. Over the years, Jasper only experiences roaring energy blazing through the souls of pokémon and trainers alike. Not this cold hand that strangled his inner flame.
"This is wrong." Jasper walked inside and scowled. That icky energy bit at him, whispering strange warnings in his ears. Warnings that didn't match the usual voices he heard. "Something happened here?"
A thin fog fluttered around them. Chilling as the voices grew louder and that hand tightened its grip. Beside him, Baryte shivered. Couldn't blame the guy. The lake shouldn't feel like this. Unless someone trespassed and disrupted the natural habitat. Jasper frowned. Anyone who disturbed the lake had to deal with him as a Child—
"Gah!" Baryte stumbled into him and pointed a shaky finger and at a downed body up ahead. A dark, bird-shaped…wait a minute!
"Kula!" Jasper scrambled to his murkrow and scooped her into his arms. Something attacked her! An electric-type no doubt; she had electricity dancing through her feathers.
"Jasper?" Baryte whispered, tense and with a hand at his belt. "Look ahead."
Deep in the fog, a ball of light floated. Dancing almost like a bizarre apparition as it came closer. The air thickened and Jasper swore he smelled ozone. Regardless, that icky energy gnawed at him the closer the light came. The voices now a chorus of screaming children submerged underwater. That light had a strange aura to it…much like the lake.
"The trespasser…" Eyes wide, Jasper screamed for Baryte to move. The two went separate ways as a lance of golden electricity shot through the fog and struck down a towering tree! Their attacker emerged from the fog with a ditzy look to it. But the aura it radiated sent the voices in a frenzy, Finally, Jasper understood why.
"A Shadow Pokémon."
For the first time in years, shadow pokémon returned to the lake.
Anddd that's the Chapter! Jasper is really fun to play with. Especially cause he has an endless pit of energy that really just writes itself. I adore him lol And Baryte kind of acts like a good balance for him. But that'll come up more later. They're good for each other. In a friendship way lol I haven't given thought to who Jasper is paired with now, but we'll see! Who knows, Jasper and Baryte might be the end result lol.
But anyways, feel free to review or pm with what you think of the chapter!

Alain and "Don't give up! I believe in you!" for the BotW starter meme :D
((This ended up being a lot longer than a ficlet, because even my “quick ideas” turn into things like this, and I have no self control. This takes place when Alan is fourteen, roughly in September.))
“Two stones seem to have aconnection to mega evolution. One is held by the trainer, and the other by thepokémon. When the two stones resonate, the pokémon temporarily attains greatpower.”
“But where does that power comefrom? Is it given to them by humans?”
“No, it’s the pokémon’s ownpower. Humans only draw out the power using the stone, that’s all.”
“But how?” Alan whispered, asLizardon pulled sharply away and back into the air to avoid taking anotherdirect hit from a Giga Impact. Alan placed his fingers against his Key Stoneagain, pressing against the smooth sphere set into his Mega Ring with all thestrength he could muster, to no avail. It remained cold beneath his touch. “How do I draw out that power?”
One year ago, Alan had agreed to work for Director Lysandre ofFleur-De-Lis Laboratories, assisting him in the research he was carrying out touse mega evolution energy for the benefit of the world. One month ago, Lizardonhad evolved from charmeleon into charizard in order to save Alan’s life afterAlan had lost his footing while descending a cliff in a deep canyon. Lizardon’sevolution finally allowed them both to accept the Key Stone and Charizardite Xthat the Director had shown them back when they had first agreed to work forhim. The Key Stone had been fastened to a heavy Mega Ring locked around Alan’swrist (one which, the Director said, would gather mega evolution energy andautomatically transfer it back to Fleur-De-Lis Laboratories), and theCharizardite X had been embedded in a weighted steel collar bearing theFleur-De-Lis crest, clasped around Lizardon’s neck. Neither Alan nor Lizardonwere wild about the collar, but when Alan had (as politely as he could)questioned it, the Director had said it was necessary.
“If he cannot handle the weight of the collar, he will be in no shapeto handle the weight of mega evolution,” the Director had said, before a littlesmile had curled his lips. “Let the weight of those accessories—both hiscollar, and your Mega Ring—remind you two of the responsibilities you carry.”
Any argument against the Director’s words (if one existed) died beforeit reached Alan’s throat. He and Lizardon had exchanged a glance before theyboth looked back at the Director, and Alan had nodded to show he understood. The Director’s smile had grown, and he had turned away to return to his workbefore Alan had spoken up again.
“Director, how … does mega evolution work? How do we use thesestones?”
The Director had looked back at him, calm surprise flitting across hisexpression, before his lips curled in a small, disbelieving smile that did notreach his eyes.
“You were Professor Sycamore’s assistant. He has spent a considerableamount of time researching mega evolution. Did you not research it with him?”
For a moment, Alan had been unable to speak. He had nodded, hoping thatwould suffice, but when the Director had continued to watch him, he had forcedhimself to say, “I—yes, I did. But—”
“Then surely you’ll be able to put the knowledge you gained during thattime to good use and figure it out.” The Director had turned away again, andhad raised one hand in a parting wave as he strode away. “Good luck, Alan. Ihave great faith you won’t disappoint me.”
That was one month ago. In that time, Alan and Lizardon had not beenable to achieve mega evolution even once.
It wasn’t for lack of trying. Following the Director’s advice, Alan hadwritten down everything he had learned about mega evolution while living at theProfessor’s lab in hopes that he would come across something that would tellhim how to use it. (And he had, as he had written, wondered how the Directorhad known that he had been the Professor’s assistant. He hadn’t thought on itat the time, but now that he did, he couldn’t remember ever saying as much. Butthen, Alan figured, he must have mentioned it. Or perhaps, when he hadsuggested that the Director ask the Professor for help with his research, theDirector had figured it out. The Director was intelligent; Alan was sure thathe had just figured it out on his own.) Writing down what he knew hadn’thelped; though he was able to halfway fill a standard-sized, spiral-boundnotebook with prior knowledge, most of what it was historical data chroniclingthe phenomenon throughout Kalos’ past. He and the Professor had unearthedplenty of ancient tablets and scrolls that referenced mega evolution (even ifnot by name), but none of those tablets or scrolls provided instructions on howto use it. The closest they came was the stone tablet depicting the megaevolution of a lucario, but even that only clued them into the fact that two stoneswere necessary. There was no information given on how to put the stones to use.
“Another question is why it onlyoccurs during battles. According to the information in our possession, thereare cases of pokémon changing their types and abilities upon mega evolving.”
“If their typing and abilitieschange, releasing the power might place a burden on the pokémon. Is that why itonly happens in battle?”
“That’s a possibility.”
Battles were the key. Two special stones, and a battle—those were therequirements for mega evolution. Knowing this, Alan and Lizardon had taken theKey Stone and Charizardite into battle after battle, seeking out opponents thatwould last long enough in battle against them for them to be able to use megaevolution.
It didn’t work.
It wasn’t that the battles didn’t last long enough. After a weekstraight of solid failures, Alan had started trying to activate the Key Stoneat the very start of each new battle. Even if his opponent couldn’t match thestrength of mega evolution, all Alan needed was to know how to do it. Theycould call the battle off once he succeeded. He wasn’t looking for anothernotch in his and Lizardon’s metaphorical victory belts; all he wanted was asuccessful test of mega evolution, and then a chance to replicate whatever hedid to achieve it the first time to see if it would work again. Any opponentwould do—anything would do, so longas it let him use mega evolution. So long as he didn’t fail again.
Nothing worked.
He hadn’t reported his failures to the Director, and the Director hadn’tasked. Instead, the Director had told him to travel to Sinnoh, where there wereapparently reports of Lucarionite deep within Mt Coronet. That didn’t makesense to Alan—hadn’t the Professor said that the only historical accounts of megaevolution were in Kalos?—but he wasn’t one to disobey a direct order, so offto Sinnoh he went, hoping he would find the spark he needed there tosuccessfully use mega evolution.
But even now, even still, after a monthstraight of dedicated training and pouring over everything the Professorhad ever told him again, and again, andagain, it still. Wasn’t. Working.
“Latios,” his opponent called, and he tossed his head as if to flickhis grey-blue bangs from his face. He succeeded, but only briefly; his bangs fellstraight back into his eyes a second later. “Dragon Pulse!”
His opponent’s latios—Latios, a latios, how had anyone ever managed to capture, let alone train, a latios?!—rearedback unleashed a bright purple burst of energy from its mouth. Lizardon swoopedaround it, but the latios matched him for speed, swiveling so that the beamcrashed against Lizardon’s side. A heart-rending cry was torn from Lizardon’sthroat as the attack sent him careening back down to earth, and in the samebreath a yell was pulled from Alan’s own throat.
“Lizardon!”
Seconds before he would have hit the ground Lizardon righted himself inthe air and shot up again, though his flight was unsteady as he turned back toface the latios. Alan breathed a sigh of relief, and with his fingers stillpressed against his apparently useless Key Stone, shouted:
“Dragon Claw!”
Lizardon’s claws glowed green, but even as he pulled up and shot towardthe latios in a sharp dive, their opponent smirked.
“Latios, Giga Impact!”
“No—Lizardon, pull ba—!”
The words died in Alan’s throat as the latios, taking advantage ofLizardon’s frontal assault, hit him with a full force Giga Impact at pointblank range. Once again he was sent smashing back down to the earth below, andthis time he wasn’t able to pull up in time to avoid the collision.
Alan scraped his nails along his Key Stone, digging hard enough tonearly yank it free from the Mega Ring. What use was it? Why wouldn’t it work? Was it—was it him? Was it something he was doing wrong? What was he doing wrong?
“Humans only draw out the powerusing the stone, that’s all. I think it is the strong bond between human andpokémon which allows this phenomenon to happen.”
Was that it? Was his bond with Lizardon not strong enough?
Lizardon pushed himself up from the ground, wavering unsteadily on hisfeet. His tail flame was smaller now than it had been at the start of thebattle. Even from the distance at which he stood, knee-deep in snow, Alan couldsee cuts and scrapes along Lizardon’s chest and arms—could see how hisbreathing was labored in a way that made Alan’s own breath feel short in hislungs. Alan wanted, more than anything, to take to the field himself and pullLizardon into his arms, just as he had when he was ten and his kidnapper’s onixhad slammed Lizardon—then only a charmander—into the ground much like thelatios just had. In that moment, he didn’t care about mega evolution, notreally. He just wanted—he just wanted Lizardon’s pain to end.
Perhaps because of his silence, or maybe because of something else(something ineffable, indefinable), Lizardon turned back to face him. In theheartbeat in which their eyes met, Alan felt realization strike a chord withinhim.
No.
It wasn’t their bond.
Their bond was plenty strong enough. Their bond was everything.
Every battle, every day—their bond was what saw them through it all.Even before Lizardon hatched, the bond that had started to develop between themthe moment Alan discovered Lizardon’s egg abandoned in that alleyway was whathad assured Alan that Lizardon would hatch safely and healthily, even as theProfessor worried over the low temperature of his egg. Their bond was what hadallowed Lizardon to find him after he had been kidnapped, was what allowed Alanto understand Lizardon perfectly (sometimes without Lizardon even sayinganything), and was what allowed Lizardon to evolve to save Alan’s life whenthey were both falling to the bottom of the canyon (Lizardon, to Alan’s horrorat the time, having jumped after him). Their bond was what had taken them thisfar. Their bond …
Alan swallowed, and curled his fingers into a fist over his heart.
Their bond was what would take them to unimaginable heights.
“Don’t give up,” Alan said, holding Lizardon’s gaze in his own. “Ibelieve in you.”
The first part of what he said (don’tgive up, never surrender, stay determined) was for both of them. The second(I believe in you, always have, alwayswill) was for Lizardon alone. But Lizardon didn’t break eye contact either, and he nodded, a reptilian smile quirking his lips as he crooned. Alan was taken aback for only a halfsecond before he closed his eyes and smiled. He knew exactly what that croonmeant.
(‘I believe in you, too.’)
“Are you ready to resume?” his opponent asked. As one, Alan andLizardon looked back at the latios as it pulled back, readying itself foranother attack. “Latios—!”
“Lizardon,” Alan said, “take to the sky!”
The latios’ Dragon Pulse crashed into nothing but empty earth asLizardon once again pushed himself into the air, arcing around so that his backwouldn’t be exposed to his enemy. Alan’s eyes followed him as he moved throughthe air, and even at this distance he could tell they were breathing in sync.
Alan placed his fingers over his Key Stone again.
It wasn’t about mega evolution, not really. Mega evolution was the endresult—the natural outcome of whatwas already there. The battle was merely a catalyst. The stones, Key and Mega alike, were only conduits. This wasn’t about obtaining a power boost. This wasn’tabout solving a problem that had vexed him for the past month. This—all ofthis, everything they had worked for up until this point—was about the bondthat he and Lizardon shared manifesting in a tangible way as a direct result ofall their efforts. And whether the Key Stone wanted to be useless or not, Alanneeded it to understand that.
“Key Stone,” he whispered, pressing his fingers flat against it, “respondto my heart. Surpass evolution … megaevolve!”
Warmth pooled from the Key Stone, seeping into Alan’s fingertips andflooding through his body. He looked up in time, eyes wide, to see bright lightflash from the Charizardite around Lizardon’s neck. Lizardon let out a roarthat reverberated in Alan’s chest as his scales shifted from vivid orange toinky black, and as the red flame on his tail flared into brilliant blue. Asensation—a feeling like vivid, visceral awareness pulsed within him, and ashe realized what it was, what was happening, what they had finally achieved, he felt it waver and tremble, almost fragile inhis consciousness. He shoved the thought of celebration and distraction away, and focused wholesale on the energy brimming beneath his skin, in his blood, through his heart. It was a charge, a connection; it bound them together asblue-white flames spilled from Lizardon’s snout and his roar echoed through therainbow flash from his Charizardite. Before, he could tell they had beenbreathing in sync. Now, he knew their souls were united, and that their heartswere beating as one.
The latios had pulled back the moment it had realized what washappening, but even now it stared at Lizardon as though it had never seen himbefore. The latios’ trainer stared at them in similar shock, his jaw slack, hisshoulders slumped under his red shawl.
“What …” he said, sounding dazed, “… is this?”
“This is the manifestation of our bond,” Alan said, and he couldn’thelp his smile as he flexed his fingers as if they were claws. “Lizardon,Dragon Claw!”
An identical smile parted Lizardon’s lips as he dove toward the latiosonce more, his claws flashing green.

Seven technology and marketing predictions from the 2010s that aged badly
Tumblr media
We’re fast approaching the end of 2019, which aside from being the end of a year (with all of the traditional reflection and future-gazing that that entails) is also the end of a decade – which of course makes it a perfect time to look back on the last ten years and take stock of where we’re at.
A lot can happen in ten years, and the early 2010s were a pretty different time. The internet landscape was very different, social media was different, technology was in a different place, and marketing techniques and best practices in 2010 definitely looked different to what you would see today.
To put it into perspective, 2010 was the year that Apple released the iPad and just three years after the release of the iPhone. Twitter had been around for four years, Facebook for six, and Instagram launched in October of that year. We were still a year away from the launch of Snapchat, four years away from the launch of the Amazon Echo, and six years away from the adoption of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation. A lot of the things that would shape the technology and marketing landscape as we know it today had yet to even come into existence.
As a result, many of the predictions about what the future would look like in the 2010s have turned out, in hindsight, to be hilariously off the mark. I should qualify this by saying that there are also a lot of predictions (of the many I read when researching this) that turned out to be surprisingly accurate, or that emerged in a slightly different form but were broadly correct even if some of the details varied.
But it’s also pretty funny to look back at some of the trends we thought would completely dominate the decade and realise, Wow, we were way off. It’s also interesting to look at why that was, and how things played out instead. So, here are seven marketing and technology-related predictions from the 2010s that have aged, in hindsight, pretty badly.
1. “QR codes will be the future of mobile marketing”
I had to start off with the big one – probably the most memorable and most-ridiculed fad of the early 2010s, and the one that will go down in marketing history as a spectacular flop: QR codes, those blocky, black-and-white (or sometimes creatively-patterned) squares of code that when scanned with your phone would take you to a webpage.
QR codes were first invented in 1994 by Japanese company Denso Wave, and they had a couple of different moments in the limelight, but Peak Hype for QR codes (at least in the west) was probably 2011. According to statistics published by comScore, in June 2011 14 million mobile users in the US – about 6.2% of the country’s total mobile audience – scanned a QR code on their mobile device.
If you lived in a country like the USA or the UK in 2011, you probably remember how QR codes were absolutely everywhere. Every ad had one, every brand had found a way to integrate QR codes into their marketing material – regardless of whether there was a genuine use case for them. They were the in thing, and a lot of commentators predicted that they would become even more ubiquitous as brands fine-tuned their use in mobile marketing.
But the backlash against QR codes was already building, and by March 2012, Forbes had published an article querying whether QR codes were dead. Econsultancy published a round-up of dubious uses of QR codes in January of the same year which illustrates a lot of the problems with the way QR codes were being implemented by brands and advertisers. Some brands persisted with them for a few more years, but ultimately, QR codes were considered a fading fad by then and their reputation for failure had already set in. We featured QR codes in a 2014 round-up of mobile marketing trends that didn’t live up to the hype.
QR codes have a lot of potential as a means for linking online and offline – we only have to look to China and parts of Southeast Asia, where they’re used for everything from convenient mobile payments to brand activations and app installations, to see how QR codes could have succeeded. But in the west in 2011, few smartphones had an in-built QR code reader, and the mobile web was still in its infancy, meaning that scanning a QR code required a lot of effort for very minimal reward.
QR codes are still around in a limited form – you see them on a lot of food packaging, and in our loyalty apps and mobile passbooks – and there’s been talk of a potential comeback, but ultimately their gimmicky, pointless reputation has proven difficult to shake. We probably won’t see QR codes making a sudden comeback at any time in the 2020s.
Other incarnations of augmented reality have also had difficulty getting off the ground. A lot of early smartphone-based AR was notoriously clunky and impractical; the vision that everyone had of gorgeous digital graphics seamlessly overlaid on reality didn’t really match up to the tech. Despite its lofty ambitions of creating a visual search engine for the world or an ‘AR browser’, Blippar ultimately collapsed into administration last year after burning through more than $130 million in funding (before being bought out of administration and installing a new CEO). AR enjoyed a return to the limelight in 2016 with the release of Pokémon Go, but again, the hype failed to translate into any kind of more widespread adoption.
AR hasn’t gone away – beauty companies are currently making great use of it as a means of virtually trying on different nail shades and make-up looks, now that the technology has advanced to the point that it can be executed well. The Ikea Place app, which visualises furniture in your living room, is another genuinely good use case. But the future that many envisioned with the advent of Google Glass, Blippar and later, Pokémon Go, hasn’t really arrived in any meaningful way. For now, AR is still a niche phenomenon.
3. “[Insert name of new social network here] will kill Facebook”
The 2010s have seen the transformation of Facebook from the hot, new social network to an almost unstoppable juggernaut, with so many of the decade’s defining advertising and marketing trends, from clickbait to the ‘video revolution’, livestreaming to privacy fears, playing out on and shaped by Facebook.
As its rise has continued, commentators have repeatedly predicted – or hoped – that whatever hot new social network is currently trending will be the ‘death of Facebook’. Here are just a few of those would-be Facebook killers:
Path (2010-2018): A mobile photo-sharing and messaging network that limited a user’s social circle to just 50 friends, it was widely viewed as an antidote to Facebook at a time when usage of the social network was exploding, and many found their feeds full of people they weren’t really that interested in interacting with. Path was seen as a breath of fresh air, and at one time Apple was reportedly in talks to acquire it.
Unfortunately for Path, Facebook successfully replicated a lot of its pioneering features, like reactions and emoji stickers; the company was also dogged by a data collection and privacy scandal in 2012 (so it was ahead of Facebook in that regard). Path was sold to South Korean internet company Kakao for an undisclosed amount in 2015, and ultimately closed down in 2018.
Ello (2014-): Ello, a social network that built its premise around the notion that “You are not a product” and refused to carry ads, enjoyed a rapid rise to fame in a period when public opinion was turning against the increasingly commercial nature of Facebook and other major social networks. Facebook was also mired in one of its many ‘real name scandals’ at the time, giving Ello the perfect opportunity to present a privacy-focused alternative.
Of course, it didn’t last – Ello wasn’t able to capture users’ attention beyond the initial interest or gain enough critical mass for a serious migration, Facebook sorted out its privacy scandals, and people went back to using it. Interestingly, Ello reinvented itself later and focused more heavily on visual social media – it’s still up and running as a platform for artists and creatives.
Google+ (2011-2018): Remember when Google+ was seen as a viable social network and people thought it would kill Facebook? No? For a few years in the early 2010s, it looked a lot like Google’s new social network was going to be the thing that killed off Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg certainly thought so. It was new, it was cool, and it was linked to your Google account – making it easy to set up a profile, which gave Google an edge in early growth. Google+ also gained a lot of traction with marketers due to the perception that Google+ posts were favoured by Google’s search algorithm.
Numerous post-mortems have dissected exactly where Google+ went wrong – I even wrote one myself when the shutdown of Plus was announced in October 2018. In short, Google+ failed to do anything particularly different from Facebook, and the few interesting features it did have weren’t enough to convince people to switch. Users also resented Google’s attempt to foist Google+ on them by linking it to other Google-owned services, like YouTube. Ultimately, Google+ became just another item on Google’s long list of failed ventures – and the list of failed ‘Facebook killers’.
Snapchat (2011-): Snapchat, with its viral popularity among younger internet users, was once considered a serious threat to Facebook – to the point that Mark Zuckerberg made multiple attempts to acquire it. Snapchat turned them down, and so instead Facebook resorted to duplicating its most unique feature, Stories, on Instagram (and Facebook, and WhatsApp). The move worked, and Instagram Stories far outstripped Snapchat in popularity.
Snapchat is of course still alive and kicking, and though it’s had some tough times in recent years, it has been making a decent comeback with the release of a new Android app design, and is seeing renewed user growth, retention and engagement. But Facebook ultimately came closer to killing Snapchat than Snapchat came to killing Facebook.
4. “Tablet computing will explode”
This was a common prediction in marketing and technology circles for a couple of years after Apple released the iPad in 2010. At the time, many predicted that tablets and e-readers like the Kindle Fire would revolutionise computing, providing a sleeker, more portable alternative to a desktop computer or laptop, but with more power and screen real-estate than a smartphone.
While this wasn’t completely wrong, as tablets did enjoy a brief heyday from about 2010 to 2012, it didn’t last very long either. Smartphone screens got bigger and their functionality improved, while laptops became lightweight and more portable. Ultimately, tablets didn’t replace either of these devices, but they were an important ‘bridge’ during the years before smartphones and laptops had improved enough to fill that gap in the market.
5. “Virtual reality will go mainstream”
Like its cousin augmented reality, virtual reality has had a bumpy ride when it comes to getting off the ground, with a few promising starts that ultimately didn’t live up to expectations.
Virtual reality hype predates the 2010s – VR technology has been around in some form since the 1970s, and commercial VR first started to seem viable in the 1990s. But the technology was clunky, expensive, and ultimately underwhelming – so things fizzled out for a couple of decades.
Enter the Oculus Rift, which was successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter to the tune of $2.5 million in 2012, and was purchased by Facebook two years later for close to $3 billion. It kicked off a wave of virtual reality interest and enthusiasm, with competing headsets produced by Valve, Sony, Google, Microsoft and numerous others. Brands were quick to jump on the bandwagon with VR marketing campaigns, which were seen as a way to connect with consumers in a memorable and immersive way, particularly in industries with a less tangible product offering, like travel.
But the predictions that VR headsets would sweep the mainstream within a year or two and change the way we consume content forever turned out to be premature. VR struggled with many of the same issues that plagued it back in the 90s: headsets were still unwieldy (even if they’d come a long way from the bulky rigs of two decades ago), the price point was too high, they were seen as too anti-social and/or the sole province of hardcore gamers. Even games developers were stymied, due to the sheer number of different devices available to develop for. Which one should they cater to?
Virtual reality headsets still have a place in consumer entertainment, but the hype among brands and marketers has long died down, and it seems that we’re still searching for that elusive factor that will tip VR over into the mainstream. The recent revelations that Facebook intends to use people’s Oculus Rift data for ad targeting – despite explicitly denying that it would do so – probably won’t help matters.
6. “Voice will be the next revolution in search/ecommerce/user interaction”
Excitement around voice search and voice interfaces has been a pervasive trend during the 2010s. First, the hype was oriented around mobile voice search and the idea of voice search on the go, before shifting to smart speakers, voice apps, and the internet of things more generally following the advent of the Amazon Echo.
But despite the continued certainty among many commentators that a ‘voice-first revolution’ is just around the corner, it still hasn’t arrived. While Google announced at its I/O developers conference in 2016 that voice queries made up 20% of all searches on Android and in the Google app in the US, it was huge news – but Google has been quiet on the subject ever since, and has yet to issue an updated statistic. Many were sure that voice commerce would be a huge trend thanks to the Echo’s link to Amazon, but consumers don’t seem interested – internal figures leaked to The Information last year revealed that only 2% of people who owned Amazon Echo devices had used them to make a voice purchase. And despite the plethora of brands and agencies developing voice apps and experiences, there is a dearth of case studies indicating that they’ve yielded any results.
There are a number of theories as to why voice hasn’t managed to take off despite its potential, ranging from self-consciousness about speaking aloud in public to concerns about security and privacy, the lack of a visual, lack of a clear use case for voice, and issues with the user experience. In my opinion, it’s due to a combination of all of these, but particularly the last two – the others are issues that could be overcome if consumers had more of an incentive to overcome them. As I wrote in my previous piece about the lack of case studies for voice,
“Smart speakers and other voice-controlled devices are an attractive novelty to consumers, but so far, they can’t achieve anything that isn’t already possible with a smartphone or computer. […] For [a voice revolution] to happen, voice will need to have much, much more to offer consumers than a slightly more useful way of compiling a shopping list.”
7. “Social commerce will be the next big thing”
Technically this prediction has come true in the 2010s, but I’m including it on the list because it had a lot of false starts, and for most of the decade seemed like a trend that would never take off.
A lot of marketing predictions over the past decade revolved around social media and commerce merging to create an environment that allowed people to shop on the same platforms they used to socialise, or socialise on the same platforms they used to shop – either thanks to the emergence of new dedicated platforms for social commerce, or the introduction of commerce features to social platforms, such as with Facebook Marketplace or ‘Buy’ buttons on platforms like Twitter and Pinterest.
All of these things did happen, but none of them took off in the way that was expected. Social commerce platforms opened, gained a bit of interest, and ultimately flopped or remained niche phenomena. Social networks introduced commerce features, but they were under-used, and many were ultimately dropped. In some cases, this was due to the friction associated with making a purchase – Facebook Marketplace, for example, didn’t have an in-built payments mechanism until the advent of Facebook Pay in 2019, meaning that buyers and sellers had to arrange the transaction privately. In others, such as Twitter’s Buy button, it was because users weren’t in a shopping mindset when they used the social network.
Eventually, social commerce began to take hold on more visually-oriented social networks: after years of being used as a platform for design, fashion and shopping inspiration, Pinterest introduced Buyable Pins; similarly, when Checkout was introduced on Instagram earlier this year, businesses were already adept at using the platform to drive sales. And just like that, social commerce was a reality. In the end, the secret to success turned out to be introducing it on platforms where there was already a clear use case and demand, instead of trying to impose it from on high.

Spirit Sword (2/?)
Reid Alma grew up in the Region of Pacal. After defeating their own league and trying their hand at Alola, they’ve set their sights on Galar.

———————-———————-———————-———————
2. Fated
On the south edge of Postwick was hilltop farmland. Wooloo rolled about in fields as butterfree and bird Pokémon field the skies. At the southeastern tip sat a small manor, outside of which a pair of trainers prepared to battle.
“Believe in your Pokémon! And care for them, too, with all your heart. Do those two things, and I’m certain you’ll learn to choose the moves that suit your Pokémon. And more importantly… to have a champion time battling with them!” Leon led Hop and Reid over to the battle court and took the refs position. “Looks like everyone’s on board, Pokémon and Trainers alike? Then let’s do this!”
“I’ve watched every match that Lee’s ever had!” Hop announced, taking on a fierce stance. “I’ve read every book and magazine he left behind at home, too! I know exactly what to do in order to win!”
“I’m sure you do,” Reid said, pulling out a Poké Ball. “Río, love, let’s do this.”
“A Pokémon battle it is, then!” her opponent said as she tossed the ball. He took out his own and threw it. “I’ve got two partners with me! Let’s go, wooloo!”
Reid slipped her hand into her pocket and pulled out her phone, hitting the battle app.
“Wooloo. Male. Level three. Type: Updating,” Luce, the Rotom inside, read off for her.
At such low levels, there’s not much strategy to go with, so… “Alright Río, Pound.”
“Wooloo, Tackle!” Hop called out.
Both Pokemon ran forwards, but Río was faster, bashing the wooloo with his tail before the white Pokémon barreled into him.
Reid checked the damage and frowned at how little damage the wooloo had taken. Darn, that thing’s bulky. I wish I had something to lower defense. At least it’s attacks are even weaker.
With no other options, Reid had Río continue to Pound as Hop matched the hits with wooloo’s Tackles. Two more Pounds brought the wooloo to red and another finished the match with Río still in the green.
“Experience gained. Level increase: Sobble - level six. New move obtained,” Luce announced and Reid glanced over to see that Río had learned Water Gun. That could come in handy.
“It’s not over yet! I’ve added another trusty ally to my team!”
“I… I was there,” Reid whispered to herself as Hop sent out his scorbunny.
“Scorbunny. Male. Level five. Type: Updating.”
Thankfully, Leon already clued us in on each other's types. “Río, Water Gun!”
Tumblr media
The blast of water hit the scorbunny just as Hop called for it to use Tackle.
“Did you already know about type advantages!?” Hop asked as scorbunny managed to hit Río before it could dodge.
Nope, in all my time as a Trainer, I never picked up on such a concept, Reid thought with a snort as she checked the damage. Yellow, good, though it could be better. And Sobble was in the yellow now too.
“Río, pound!”
He shot forwards before the two could react, slamming his tail into the scorbunny and knocking it out.
“Experience gained. Level increase: Sobble - level seven.”
“And that’s the battle!” Leon called it as Hop recalled his scorbunny.
“You beat my two Pokémon with your one!? You and that sobble are too much!” Hop moaned. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a few Pokédollar notes. He passed them over with a smile. “If I’m going to be a real Trainer, then I pay my fares like a real Trainer.”
Reid smiled and took the money before recalling Río. “You did good.”
Hop sighed, drooping over. “Well, that was a shock! Guess I know now why Lee thought he should give you a Pokémon too…”
“You and your Pokémon all fought hard,” Leon said, patting him on the back. “Made me almost want to let out charizard and join in on all the fun!” Leon stepped up to Reid as Hop ran inside to get his Pokémon taken care of and pulled a device out of his pocket. “Good effort out there, Río! Why don’t I get you all sorted?”
Reid glared at the device as it healed her Pokémon. “One of these days I’m going to get one of those stupid things.”
“It certainly makes things a lot easier,” Leon chuckled.
“And yet far less exciting,” she muttered and took her Pokémon back.
He chuckled and stepped back. “I’ve got a favor to ask you. Be a real rival to Hop, would you? Push him, and make the both of you stronger!”
She didn’t get a chance to answer as Hop appeared. “I already want to get stronger and stronger! You’ve seen me battle now, Lee, so come on, you’ve gotta let me take on the Pokémon Gyms!”
“You? Join the Gym Challenge?” Leon asked, turning to his brother. “You think you’re ready for the single greatest competition in the Galar region? Not putting the cart before the rapidash there, little brother?” At Hop’s glare, he raised an eyebrow and continued, “If that’s really what you want to do, you two have a whole lot you need to learn. Especially your friend Reid. Barely in the region and already getting dragged into the fight.”
She smiled and shrugged. “You get used to it.”
Laughing, he shook his head. “Before you think about getting Gym Badges, best to think about getting a Pokédex. A Trainer’s Pokédex helps them learn lots of things about…”
Reid started to tune Leon out, glancing over his shoulder as she spotted a pair of butterfree chasing each other. Yeah, she’d definitely need to upgrade her Pokédex app. She hadn’t gotten an upgrade since moving so it only included Pokémon native to Pacal and Alola.
“Right, right, we get it… Pokédexes, then!” Hop cut in and she refocused. “We’re on it! Looks like it’s off to the Pokémon Research Lab for you and me, Reid!”
“That’s the kind of enthusiasm a Trainer needs!” Leon said, walking away. “I’ll let the professor know to expect you.”
“I’m going to be the next champion, so completing a simple Pokédex will be nothing! Just another page in the tale of my legend!” Hop said, pumped. “You’d probably better go tell your mum that we’re heading out, though.”
Reid nodded. “See you on Route One.”
“Su-”
Crash!
The two turned towards the road. “Reid! Did you hear that just now?” Hop said as he started to run.
Reid followed and they soon found themselves back at the gate near her house, which was smashed open.
“The gate’s open! And the wooloo that was there…” Hop said, checking the gate. “It was tackling the fence pretty hard earlier. You don’t think it actually broke through there, do you?”
“The shepherd I talked to said he runs off a lot,” Reid said, looking around for any sign of the Pokémon.
“But it’s off limits! Nobody’s supposed to go in there!” Hop explained, looking worried. “I remember the professor's granddaughter went in once, and she came back in a real state. And that was nothing compared to the earful she got from the professor afterward!” He turned towards the weald. “We have to go help it, Reid! What do you say?”
“I don’t know… Maybe we should get your brother. Our Pokémon are still untrained.”
“Right, no one wants to get in trouble, least of all me.”
Why do I not believe you?
“But deep down you want to save that Pokémon, too, don’t you?”
“Yeah, but -”
“Hope you’re ready for anything because we’re going in, Reid!”
“Hop, wait!” Reid shouted after him, but he was already running up the path. She growled and followed after him.
The further they got into the trees, the more the fog rolled in making it hard to see. Thankfully Hop slowed down as the world became nothing more than trees, grass, and fog.
“That wooloo… Where do you think it got to?” he asked, glancing around. “The fog is really coming on thick now. If we don’t find that Pokémon soon, this might be trouble.”
“Maybe we should head back for help.”
“Be serious, would you? We’ve got to go look for that Pokémon!”
Suddenly a shadow jumped out at them from the tall grass and Hop jumped back with a yelp before relaxing when he saw it was just a brown rodent Pokémon. Reid grabbed his arm and they both ran for it instead of getting into a fight. They dodged another Pokémon, this one a blue bird, before an odd cry sounded through the weald.
“Did you hear that? Was that a Pokémon crying out, you think?”
“Either that or a banshee,” Reid joked. When Hop went pale she said, “Kidding.”
Another of the rodent Pokémon ran by and Hop grabbed her arm.
“You sure you don’t want to head back.”
That seemed to reignite his fire and he stepped back from her, looking determined. “Come on, Reid! That wooloo might be in real trouble!” Then he was booking it down the path.
“Woah, hold on! Wait for me!” Reid shouted, running after him. The fog was getting thicker though, and she lost sight of him. “Hop? Hop! Hop where are you?”
The fog grew so thick, it became hard to see the trees around her.
“Hop! Stop, we need to head back! Hop! Ho-umph!” Reid groaned as she slammed into the boy and they both fell to the ground.
“This is mad,” Hop huffed as they helped each other back to their feet. “I can’t see my own hand in front of my face! I think I get now why this place is off-limits.”
“You think?” she muttered, brushing herself off. “Come on, we can’t help anyone if we get lost in this fog.”
Hop started to nod, but just then something moved in the fog and they turned to see a Pokémon standing before them.
Tumblr media
It reminded Reid of Shunwar or a houndoom, but more colorful. It was scarred and missing part of its ear while the long pink fur hanging from its head was braided and seemed to defy gravity, floating back as if caught in the wind.
“What in the -” Hop yelped jumping back as the Pokémon got into a battle stance, staring them down.
“Lrrroooaaarrrd!”
Reid called out Río as she brought up the battle app.
“Unknown. Unknown. Level unknown. Type: Unknown.”
“Well, that’s helpful,” Reid muttered sarcastically.
“Zzzory,” Luce said, unrepentant.
Reid tried to take a step back, thinking about simply recalling Río and running, but found she couldn’t move.
“Great, okay, uh, Growl!” Reid said, hoping to weaken whatever it was before it could attack.
Her sobble obeyed, but the soundwaves from the attack seemed to pass right through the mystery Pokémon.
In fact, the Pokémon didn’t even seem to realize her’s was there, focused completely on her face with a stare that, when their eyes met, sent a shiver down her spine.
“Wha- The move had no effect on it!?” Hop exclaimed, snapping her out of the trance.
“I… Maybe it’s Ghost-type. Normal moves wouldn’t work on it. Río, Water Gun.”
Unfortunately, that had the same effect, the water passing right through it.
Is it an illusion? Like what the zorua and zormaii back home do for fun?
The Pokémon howled and the fog started to thicken up even more. So Reid could barely see her Pokémon and opponent.
“Reid! I can’t see anything! You okay!?”
Reid turned, but Hop was nowhere to be seen. “I’m okay.” She turned back to the battle and her eyes met the mystery Pokémon’s once more. I think. “Río, use Pound,” she called.
Her sobble jumped at the Pokémon, but it’s tail passed right through it like everything else.
“Río!” she yelled as it disappeared into the fog.
The Pokémon howled again, and all she could see was fog.
“I can’t see anything!” Hop yelled before letting out a scream.
“Hop!” she shouted turning towards where she’d last seen him.
Something brushed past her.
It felt soft and…
Soft…
And… and w…
Warm a…
And War…
W…
Reid opened her eyes with a groan. “What happened?”
She grabbed the Poké Ball in front of her and reassured herself that Río was safely inside. She climbed to her feet and looked over her shoulder to see Hop doing the same. She glanced back towards where she’d seen the mysterious Pokémon -- thought she’d seen it? -- with a frown. Had that really just happened? Or was it just a dream?
“Hop! Reid!”
The two turned to see Leon running up.
“Wha- Lee? How’d you manage to find your way here?” Hop asked. “You’re pants with directions. You always get lost.”
“Oh, that’s nice to hear from the little brother who had me worried sick!” Leon scolded. “I’d been waiting ages for you two, and you never showed! Of course I came looking for the both of you!”
“A wooloo got loose into the weald,” Reid explained.
“Wait, where’s the wooloo!?” Hop said. “We were trying to rescue that wooloo!”
Leon smiled and stepped to the side to reveal charizard standing with the missing Pokémon.
“Meh!”
“The little chap’s just fine,” Leon reassured. “You know this place is out of bounds… But it took courage to come in here all the same. And I can understand well enough why you did it. You did good, Hop!”
“And at least the wooloo’s all right, yeah, Reid?”
“Yeah,” she agreed distractedly, her eyes darting back over to the spot the mysterious Pokémon had stood.
“I thought we’d had it when that weird fog started rolling in and that mad Pokémon attacked, but at least it wasn’t all for nothing!”
“Attacked by some mad Pokémon?” Leon asked, looking worried. “What are you talking about, Hop?”
“It seemed loads stronger than any Pokémon I’ve ever seen. And it just had this sort of presence… Our moves didn’t even touch it. I mean, really, they seemed to pass right through it!”
“Your moves passed right through it?” Leon looked contemplative as he looked around. “So, the fearsome Pokémon they say live in the Slumbering Weald… Are they actually illusions or something?” Leon shook it off and set one hand on Hop’s shoulder and the other on Reid’s.
She blinked and focused back on the brothers.
“Get strong enough and maybe the two of you could be the ones to reveal the truth someday. For now, let’s simply get out of this place. You’ll be all right now that I’m here with you!”
Reid tuned out Hop’s excited ramblings as they made their way out of the weald.
The last time she’d felt a presence like that, it was when she was returning Nebby to the newly capable Lillie.
Could that have been… a legendary Pokémon?

Video Game and Movies: The Oil and Water of Entertainment
There are a lot of things that don’t mix that well, as much as some may try, they cannot make the two things work together. There’s the old sayings of “we are like gasoline and a match” or the famous one “oil and water don’t mix”. When talking about the entertainment industry, it’s video games and live-action movies. You can’t mix the two together without losing what makes the video game unique, the interaction between the story and the audience. With movies now making realistic CGI and special effects, it’s weird on how much they can mess up on making movies based on video games.
Giving the benefit of the doubt, it’s hard to make a movie. Even more when it comes to making one based on a video game that doesn’t have much story to it. So, moviemakers must make something new with the lack of story that they are given. That does not mean they can completely change everything about the game in order to make a movie. I’m talking to you, Super Mario Bros. I was spared on watching this growing up; I never knew it existed until I did research on it. Let me give you this curse image. This is the game version of a creature known as goombas.

This is the movie’s version.

This is beating a dead horse at this point. Super Mario Bros has been used as an example of what not to do when making a movie based on a video game. There is good from all this, however, that I like to address. The inclusion of Daisy as the damsel in distress. From the point of the movie’s creation and beyond, it was always Peach that was getting kidnapped. It was a surprise to see that the writers made Daisy as the main princess to save. Even if they did make Daisy completely different being more like a bounty hunter in the movie instead of a princess. It was surprisingly fitting as Daisy was always associated with being a tomboy in the Mario spinoff games. Not exact, but fitting.
You would think by now it would be easier on making a movie based on video games. Then comes Doom: Annihilation.
Personally speaking, I didn’t know there was a second movie. Yes, this is the second movie attempt based on the game Doom. The first was with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson taking the role of “Doom Guy”, or the playable character from the game. I have never sat and played Doom, but I understand the idea of the game after watching videos of the gameplay and having it be explained by my boyfriend. The plot can be simplified as demons appeared on Mars and you were sent there to kill them. Plain and simple, both movies fail to do that simple plot of people killing demons on Mars en masse. Less drama between characters and more demon-killing. Godzilla: King of the Monsters did better with more action and less drama compared to the first movie.
Doom: Annihilation failed as both a video game adaptation and a movie. From what I understand the movie was straight to Blu-ray release, which already says a lot about the quality. Not saying that all “straight to DVD” movies are bad, there are a lot of good ones out there, but it has the reputation of it being horrible. The movie was so bad that the video game developers for Doom went on Twitter to say that they weren’t part of the film.
Tumblr media
They made the main character a woman instead of a man, which honestly wouldn’t bother me if they made her interesting. Instead, they made her a generic losing a parent trope of a faceless soldier. To be fair, “Doom Guy” doesn’t have much personality either. He’s literally killing demons because they killed his pet rabbit. John Wick anyone? However, since the movie focuses on her and other characters more than the demons themselves, it failed to make her interesting enough for the audience to even care for her or her crew.
There is more example of bad video game movies out there, but I like to highlight some of the good ones. Mainly, Detective Pikachu. Now the plot is generic at best, but the CGI of all the Pokémon was terrific. It sucks that they based it on a game that wasn’t good, to begin with, but the direction is there, and it was the right direction. They didn’t drastically change any of the Pokémon, they just enhanced the look of them. My only complaint is that the plot was generic, and I wish there was something more to it.
As video games are getting better graphics and movies are becoming bigger as the years go by, there’s still hope for them to mix well. With the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie, it seems like they understand how to make it work. Even if it had to take the whole internet to tell Paramount production to change Sonic’s design from whatever they were thinking to actual Sonic.
