It's so interesting and so exceedingly frustrating how agab is being utilized now within the queer community as a way to isolate and sort nonbinary and genderqueer folks into binary boxes that determine their moral purity levels, and their authority to do and write and exist.

The way nonbinary writers are being put under accusation of fetishizing gay men while their AGAB is continually brought up in a way that feels like queer-space-approved misgendering.

The way feminist circles that are supposedly trans-inclusive will use the word AFAB in a way that implicitly but intentionally isolates nonbinary people who aren't AFAB from joining. It's for women*.

The way the language is already flawed and leaves out intersex folks from the conversations while focusing on a binary of sex that isn't truthful.

The constant obsessing over whether someone is AFAB or AMAB and whether or not that gives them the privilege to join, do, write, or be present in certain spaces really really concerns me. How are we supposed to dismantle a binary system of gender if we can't even move past forcibly assigning and focusing on people's genders assigned at birth?

a big part of the queer online kid to queer online young adult progression for me was losing all interest in labels. not in a distasteful way!! just. losing interest .....

cannot believe how yall keep talking about how good omens became an explicitly "queer show" in season 2 like all the non-binary people in season 1 didn't exist... just say you're transphobic and go. good omens has always been a queer show. just because it doesn't come under your tight definition of "queer" doesn't change that fact.

This sort of thing is why I despise the word “queer” so much (aside from it being a slur of course). It has absolutely no meaning! It’s basically just a word that means “I like this” at this point.

I think that a lot of people in fandom have had their brains rotted by fanfiction and have come to believe that gay representation in media is as common as it is in fan fiction. So they now think there’s “too much”, and they’re bored by it. Which leads them to “queering” it (aka making it straight) because they see that as super weird and quirky, and have forgotten that 99% of media is straight and they aren’t bringing anything new to the table. And since they believe there’s too much gay representation, they don’t see anything wrong with making a gay story straight.

it does get really annoying to see all those like "pick your gender but its esoteric / nature descriptions / random / whatever" polls and know that none ofthese are even slightly going to align to my gender. like yeah its an extremely personal experience of a poorly defined concept which is influenced by my life (which in and of itself is about as complex as the fucking universe) but sometimes it gets tiring
