a friend who'd wait :)
#im posting this very late because i was sort of weary of how it came out and ended up messing w it until it was like 4am oops.#and i have plans tmrw so... oh well! i did my best and ill put it out while i can!#and i tried to make the scene match barnard's colors lol#finn's ocs#finn's art#i know i said id do more sillay stuff with the simpler screentone only style but i had a couple more of these in me#and this is the first piece im making thats like an actual part of the story too rather than just setting stuff for fun#i wanna write something to go with it too but for now ill just sort of briefly explain the context in the tags here:#barnard has a pretty bad case of OCD and his compulsions have made it difficult to make friends in the past#he was never outright bullied or anything but people just didnt really have the patience to deal with it#he has compulsions that include stuff like walking through doors until it feels right and needing things to be perfectly aligned#which in group settings has lead to people having to wait for him to finish his rituals and join them#they might find it tolerable at first but eventually they grow impatient and hes just... not invited to stuff anymore#but juno is a newer member of the guild who ends up frequenting the same library. hes also kinda a little weird#and they dont become fast friends or anything but just sort of naturally spend time in the same place#though they never plan meetups they eventually fall into a routine. around the same time theyd just both be at the library#and read next to each other. and maybe talk a bit. and eventually they end up walking back to the guildhall together#since theyre going to the same place after all. and juno always waits for barnard outside the door#eventually barnard asks if this bothers him. juno kinda just tells him 'of course it does' without any malice or anything. just a statement#barnard is surprised and apologizes and juno says not to. but the next day juno doesnt show up at the usual time.#barnard assumes hes committed somekinda more by bringing it up. he ends up staying there late reading to get his mind off it & not ruminate#but when he leaves juno is in fact still waiting for him down the hall (see pic) having collected a bunch of books literally abt ocd#he fell asleep bc barnard stayed later than expected. and hes an eepy guy generally. and also one very bad at expressing himself#but now barnard gets that juno's 'of course it [bothers me]' had the implication of 'but its worth it' which no friend has previously done.#and from the interaction juno was also able to understand that this isn't something barnard just does for the hell of it so. he studies.#and checks a bunch of stuff out because he thinks it could help his friend too (theres ocd workbooks and such- i remember working w them)#and thats the point where they became more ''friends'' than ''pleasant library acquaintances''#from there on they also do get into juno's problems. whole other bag of worms. but this specific scene is more about bernard from his pov#sorry about when i said briefly explain. i lied </3#but compared to the whole sequence im picturing its brief so shhh

ok fuck it im finally gonna write down ramble about the similarities between castle in the sky and spirit tracks rhghghrr
case #1: the characters
in my very private and running around inside my mind headcanons, I see a lot of close things between pazu and link
pazu is a sweet boy (maybe even naive) who helps those in need (like every protagonist) hes a very dedicated worker in the mines, and loves machinery
same could be said for link, who never talks in game but shows his shyness and and also sweet nature. (perhaps this is only around zelda,) you could take the fact that he doesnt even want to get up at the beginning of the game to take his exam because he dislikes the job, but this is where my headcanons come in. in short, hes a child genius and a perfectionist and works himself a little too much, and gets really eepy. so yes he loves machines (trains) as well
oh, and they are both orphans. (link is a bit difficult because hes usually always some type of parentless/guardianless child but anyways-)
and even other than personality and hobbies, their looks have similar parts too
of course, theyre not carbon copies of each other (such as colors being different) but the gloves and, especially to me, the cap is the one that sticks out. like. no other zelda game has him wearing a hat like that
(I just realized the gloves r the same color holy shit 💀) ((bruh and the posture lmao💀💀))
now I dont have much to say about sheeta and zeldas similarities (sorry) but they are both royals (well 1 of royal descent)
case #2: character relationships
spirit tracks zelink is what is keeping me alive so heres some similarities
I love love love the "hopeless romantic commoner falls in love with literal princess (she loves him back)" trope. which, pazu and sheetas relationship is a little different, but the vibes are the same
both couples? pairs? are so innocently in love with each other (maybe link shows it more) but just look:

origin:
isaiah joseph banks, known as his boxing alias mr. sandman, was born on april 12th to victoria banks and george banks in the Doylestown Hospital. born to loving parents, isaiah grew up as an only child.
isaiah learned to keep to himself and care for himself very early on, as both of his parents were usually at work. they worked hard to provide for isaiah and themselves, but always put their son first. they
the time they spent at work would be made up at home, albeit this time could never be fully made up for a young isaiah. he had spent more time with babysitters and nannies than his own parents. of course, isaiah knew his parents loved him, but all the bonds that were supposed to be formed hadn’t; the time frame had passed.
the time they did spend together was… memorable, really. not in a bad way, but every moment— every waking minute— made isaiah into the man he is today.
every night, when his mother was home early enough, she would sing him a soft lullaby. when she wasn’t, his mother had recorded this lullaby onto a tape for him to listen to. this lullaby was the song that made mr. sandman: Mr. Sandman by The Chordettes. it wasn’t a typical children’s lullaby by any means, but by god he loves that song— present tense intended.
then, a problem arose: school. starting middle school is one thing, but isaiah found out how cruel children could be.
isaiah was big, to put it lightly. five foot six at age 12 was enough ground for bullying, and being dropped off by a few different babysitters/nannies in the morning only added to the ammunition.
with how big he was, the bullying never went farther than verbal harassment. soft giggling every time he talked in class, glances from across the classroom, the bullying was subtle except for the occasional direct blow to isaiah.
his boxing interest began when he was thirteen, where his parents enrolled him in a self defense class that revolved around boxing and the sort. they had found out about the bullying from the babysitters, as isaiah had been reporting what they had been saying to him. there, young isaiah learned the basics of boxing: dodging, punching, and jabs had been added to his arsenal.
isaiah had always relished in the safety of knowing that he’d never get attacked at school, but unfortunately this was false.
it was brutal really; the poor boy had been caught in the bathroom and was attacked from behind, slammed his face into the sink, and assaulted from there. it took around two minutes for teachers to hear the commotion, but they were two minutes too late.
there, isaiah was brought to the hospital. no one truly knows the full extent of his injuries, minus his parents. if you look closely at mr. sandman, his top teeth are a little crooked.
nothing exactly eventful happened other than he moved schools, and everything was smooth from there.
his boxing career began to take off when he was 17, when he met an old babysitter of his— one who had taken care of him up until he was 13. he had become a boxing coach and offered to take isaiah up as a student.
if you ever ask mr. sandman in an interview about his boxing idol, he’d most likely say his coach. that man taught him nearly everything he knows, and even taught him the dreamland express move that mr. sandman is most known for, albeit modified.
mr. sandman picked up his alias when his coach told him about the WVBA and their boxers. it was almost inevitable he’d choose mr. sandman in honor of his mother.
he had his first fight at age 18, where it went swimmingly well. records of this fight have been lost to time, but, according to word of mouth, mr. sandman nearly killed the poor man.

I'm one of the readers for whom the ending of Concord didn't work and I think the commentary helped me realize why. WWX's depression really resonated with me extremely deeply, whereas the parts where you intended to show that he was getting better once LWJ started making an effort were incredibly subtle. So I continued feeling the angst building up and up and was expecting a climax that would be cathartic and drain all the pent up emotion, only for the angst to suddenly fizzle out (1/2)
(2/2) If the intention was that LWJ was an unreliable narrator and also, like the reader, had misunderstood WWX's mental state, it would have been nice to see him grappling with that realization for a bit. Maybe disbelieving or shocked at first but then rewinding his memories and picking up on all the things you pointed out in the commentary. Or something. Instead, he takes it in stride and then WWX tells him he loves him, and then theyre holding hands, the end. It's too rushed.
My usual response to constructive criticism with which I disagree is to carefully and patiently explain why I wrote the fic the way I did and why I think the way I did it is good. In this case, I already spent tens of thousands of words doing just that, so I'm disinclined to show my work all over again, especially for someone unwilling to attach their pseud to their criticism - instead, I'm going to speak from the heart.
I have spent a lot--a lot--of time talking to people with depression. Like you, they often try to convince me that the unrelentingly negative view of the world that they see through their Depression Goggles is, in fact, objective reality. It is not.
Wei Wuxian's growing happiness in the second half of Concord is not "incredibly subtle." Frankly, it is not "subtle" at all:
Wei Wuxian still conducts himself according to the principles, when they travel together – still eats in silence, sits properly, refuses alcohol. But he seems more comfortable in crowded spaces full of laughter and color – teahouses and markets and small-town festivals, where he banters easily with shopkeepers and hawkers. And if Lan Wangji fills his bowl after he has already eaten three, or orders meat dishes for him, Wei Wuxian accepts the implied permission and eats with pleasure. He is still too thin. But he no longer looks as if a strong wind could blow him away.
Because he cannot take Wei Wuxian night hunting as often as he would wish, given his teaching responsibilities and other tasks as head disciple, Lan Wangji begins finding excuses to visit Caiyi Town. He brings his husband with him, and watches with satisfaction as Wei Wuxian offers effusive compliments to the innkeepers and waiters when his meal is finished; as the staff come to know Wei Wuxian’s likes and dislikes, and bring him his particular favorites.

The fact that someone can read a passage like the above and think, "The angst just keeps building up and up, nothing is getting better," says something about the lens with which they are viewing the fic; it says nothing about the fic itself.
You say, "If the intention was that LWJ was an unreliable narrator and also, like the reader, had misunderstood WWX's mental state"--but that was not the intention at all. "The reader" does not misunderstand WWX's mental state. Most readers got it just fine. For the other readers (including at least one previous anon of the same mind), I have already expended hours and hours of time and effort on the commentary trying to help them understand, so going forward, I won't be responding to any more anon asks that boil down to "I don't get the ending of Concord." It's not a good use of my time or theirs.
Frankly, even if nobody else liked Concord, or its ending--which is very much not the case--that wouldn't change how I feel about it one bit. I am very proud of Concord, including and perhaps especially the ending. No anon is going to change my mind about that.

Would you happen to have any particular resources for learning pixel art?
Theres a funny story story here
So at first all I did was try to draw normally but like, with small squares and seeing how other people did it
aaand it wasnt the best
like, its not the worst but the colors are pretty low contrast and the squares are messy and while its certainly pixels its like, not something id put in a game now
I would reccomend looking up sprite sheets for old pixelated games like pokemon, earthbound or yume nikki, they have simple-er sprite work than, lets say, rpg maker sprite sheets
So, in a crusade for pixel art tutorials to actually get good, I found this video

After that Id say you really need to check how other people make sprites and try it by youself
And I dont mean like, exactly the same, just the general shape or anatomy can be enough to learn
Usually when I make a big rooster of characters I try to do a general body shape that can be drawn over many times
Just by trying to do a little guy then erasing until it is a shell of his former self
of course before getting there you gotta just draw, big sprites, tiny sprites, whatever until you get the hang of making a shape
Some people recommend doing the siluette before the drawing but im really bad at that lmao
Also sometimes mixing dark pixels in an area of light pixels looks pretty good, especially in hair linework
But!! I recommend if you want to do big animations try to use a minimalistic color palette and shadows, or else everything will become incredibly painful
for animating try moving the little guy around like a jpeg doll, move around their limbs and stick them together lmao
Also!! use Asesprite, its good

My last (and priciest... rip wallet) nendo pakige came! It was... a whole this guy. Now it needs to be said I do not know the guy but he was picked for having perfect hair forrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... custom Wen Kexing I desperately wanted to make :D I hoped to find just the hair pieces but the only option was almost the price of a whole nendo so I was like. might as well get the guaranteed-not-bootleg one. I didn't want to cut and sculpt anything, so I looked for something that would be close enough on its own - and this hair is a very nice middle ground between my own headcanon (assymetrical front, mostly loose with only two strands tied in the back, purple/mauve undertone) and my fav AD design (this one).
I'm getting fabrics for his fit later (once i get my wallet out of hell.......), but since the hair and the faceplates were all here, I was impatient to try them together. So without further ado, please perceive!

Was thinking of the "If you still haven't realized who I am, aren't Poisonous Scorpions a little too stupid?" scene :D It's the instant switch between Wife Wen and Valley Master Wen that did it for me! (i say as if im not obsessed with every single scene wkx is in)
The clothes are a mix between The Guy's (im sorry mr.*looks it up* zeyan li im sure ur a good character but i only got u to pull a victor frankenstein on u) and LBH's. I actually really vibe with these robes (theyre based on the same type i usually draw wkx in! yuanlingpao worn with opened collar!) but they have a Problem in that they are meant to be displayed with the og big coat (as in, this nendo doesnt have the stick part for the standee, his coat is supposed to hold him up) and it didnt fit with any standard standees I had. So I ended up using the ones that came with the doll bodies for these pics. Yes two of them (the second one props up the hair from the back). Good thing I was already going to replace the robes with doll body+clothes i guess... I also slightly photoshopped the second faceplate bcus the highlights turned out to be too big >< Currently figuring out how to color them in to this state irl.
Now, while I did get this nendo primarily for the hair, I also wondered if his faceplates would work for a potential Zhou Zishu and... yeah:
Was going for the "You dare to act against who's mine?" vibes with the second one because yknow. yeah. I'll need to get him different hair (these are Binghe's) as the front especially doesnt fit with the image I have for him, plus im not even sure I want the ponytail (and not some type of bun) for him, and ofc I need this hair for Binghe - but I daresay the vibes on the faceplates are 💯💯💯
All in all getting good mileage out of this purchase and I haven't even shown u the other half yet :D

okay not story related but. how do the horses work
THANK YOU CROW ‼️ for asking <3 hehe i love talking game mechanics and like. details in general dw
so! horses are an important part of this game. to quote my best friend and the biggest horse + horsegame fan i know (gabe @porthavens):
it's not a true "horse sim", in that taking care of horses isnt a major gameplay mechanic with significant impacts. but there are MANY different kinds of horses with different stat levels, and you can tame wild horses OR buy horses from stables, and you can pet+feed+clean your horse, and you can form a bond with your horse by earning their trust. IMPORTANT Is that you can also name them and style their mane/tail differently.
now forgive me as i go into more detail because im allergic to simple answers:
what he said honestly got the basics i think. you feed your horse food or give it medicine to heal it/help it replenish energy, brush it to keep it clean, you have the choice of bringing hay to them at camp, you can use them to hunt or as transportation. etc. in general theyre really useful!! theyre well implemented in the game and thats important imo considering the time period its set in + who the main characters are.
(and thats not even touching how theres like. honestly so much detail put into each breed having a distinct body type + the coat colors and tail dynamics like theyre honestly just so well animated. and horses are notoriously difficult to animate. but they feel real, down to how their coats ripple)
i feel like RDR2 especially handles the horse as not only a mechanic or a vehicle for the player but also like... as a way of furthering characterization + humanizing the characters.
each of the main characters in the gang have their own horse that stays with them, or doesnt, throughout the game. its apart of their personality + identity. something important to know is that in the genre of westerns theres a visual motif with white hats, black hats, and similarly with black horses + white horses. it usually is as cut and dry as "bad buy wears black + has black horse, good guy has white hat and horse" and we dont have time to unpack that but it DOES mean that when we are introduced to certain characters its important to look at whats close to their identity and see
dutch van der linde, the leader, + father figure to the main characters, as long as an antagonist, has a black hat, but the most unique white horse. on the contrast, micah bell, the true antagonist of rdr2, has a black horse and white hat.
^ horse and hat spiel aside its about how each character is talked about in relation to their horse. dutch's horse, the count, looks more like an aristocrats pet. baylock, micah's horse, looks starved and bleeding later on in the game. john and arthur can talk to their horses and hum on horseback and call them petnames. each horse has a personality that informs the characters story yk.
lastly its like...... you do grow attached to your horses that You get. i had a grullo dun mustang named merlin (yk. arthur and merlin. arthur gets compared to the legend by jack his nephew) and i adored her. i also watched her die as arthur thanked her. its like. its about how the horses are more than a game mechanic but also more than just a narrative device. perfect blend

OH MY GOD?! My bharani friend would say the same shit verbatim when we were still close and me or my magha friend wanted to talk about our feelings! Girl this is scary I just got flashbacks! She did the same thing to me as your Venus friend did to you too, my bharani friend would literally tell us that she couldn't talk to us cause she was talking to her friends, like are we not your friends?! We've known each other since we were 7! 😭
I have to state the contrary in regards to Venus men however, because they can be and are as insane as the women. I have various Venus men in my family, including my Purva ashadha moon conjunct Venus father. Venus men are extremely image conscious, they do a lot of charity, are polite, charming, but most of the time it's with the goal of getting something out of you. I personally feel like the experiences you've shared of Venus men being kind to you and then being overly sexual, giving you the ick, is their true colors showing.
Venus men, just like the women, are prone to be captivating, and we definitely shouldn't romanticize or idealize them, or any other placements. All the ones I've observed are serial cheaters, have had multiple failed marriages, and love bomb their partners until they get bored and move on to the next pretty thing almost immediately. The absorbent nature of Venus is very palpable, I knew one Purva ashadha sun conjunct Venus man who literally morphed into his girlfriend's a la Brad Pitt, he was always In a relationship or situationship, he was sleeping with a girl and then ended up getting into a relationship with her best friend and breaking them up 💀
So yeah, also, I think it's important to emphasize that it's not a one size fits all universe, people are their entire chart, not just their dominant planetary energy, what works for one person will not work for another, which is why I refrain from glorifying or villainizing any specific energy, otherwise the occult and astrology community will never beat the space racism allegations 💀

i just realized that my grandma is Purvaphalguni Moon and she's the same as my creepy friend from college. always touching me inappropriately, making lewd comments about my body, often body shaming me and other girls/women, one thing about my grandma is that she WILL sexualize tf out of both my mom (her daughter) and me. she always gave me the ick but now ive made the Venus connection lol. she's super religious too and is completely devoted to god (which is something i explored in my Venusian cult post).

I typed this earlier on discord so it's messy but big and there's a bit more now so it'll all go under the cut :]
We just came up with them like today so there isn't a whole lot but I'll add to the thread as we come up with more anyways they worked with silco for a decent amount of time not really knowing what the fuck they were doing because they just wanted to do something and didn't really care how it impacted anyone so they didn't pay attention a whole lot and treated it kind of like busywork but at one point they were like . shit . and decided that they had to not do this but the problem was that they didn't really know how to leave and not face consequences so they stayed around for another month or so before there was a lab explosion while they were working on smth and it was just them there so they realized that this would be the perfect (and probably only) opportunity to dip so (like a dumbass) they left without taking care of any of their injuries and their somewhat deluded self decided that it was a good idea to leave the undercity entirely and they passed out a few minutes after they got there (obviously) and woke up in the hospital (obviously) because funny thing is it just so happened that there was an explosion at a mansion or whatever the fuck it was from ep 1 nearby so everyone assumed that this was just some random guy caught in the crossfire so anyway fast forward a bit and they find out about Hextech beginning to become a thing and is like holy shit I need to do THAT and sneak in using totally legal methods and is just like "hi !! I'm doing this with you now!! how does it work how did it start" and the only reason that they aren't immediately kicked out and arrested or smth is that they're actually really good at this shit because they're donnie and they're recognized as that random guy from the news who got exploded a little bit (also the stuff on their mask is just paint I liked how it looks so I kinda went with it) and I think that's it for now
They're so unhinged and just get themself into situations™️
The government is p stupid so I think this could work out somehow
-their goggles aren't actually goggles !! The top parts are detachable and prety easily break in order to release the liquid inside which gives it the color and is highly corrosive so if they ever get into a bad spot they can just fuck someone up
-They're aware of the fact that their clothing is way too fucking big but they refuse to get things that actually fit them . Even in the lab they wear their regular attire (yes it is a hazard . They've been told . They do not care)
-the most normal person who is definitely from topside no lies 100% real and true (they're from the undercity)
-this is technically a separated au because they're not aware of the fact that they have siblings for a while (like after they leave the undercity) although the others know that they exist somewhere but they don't know where oh and splinter is dead btw fjs
-Theyre not really used to fighting with weapons, most of the fights they're in/have been in are hand to hand but when they do use weapons they usually go for shit that you can throw and that hurts a lot because it's the most affective and that's all they really care about
-because of this their fighting style is really chaotic they are entirely unpredictable to people who haven't seen them before but there's a method to their madness although as soon as they start carrying corrosive liquid on their person people leave them alone for the most part fhks
-they barely ever sleep and the amount of times they they've passed out in front of research and whatnot is countless
-they did stay with silco for a bit after they realized that this is fucked up actually not only because they couldn't leave without basically faking their death if they didn't want consequences but also because the little shreds of validation that they got were literally everything without someone present to give them that they're even worse than regular rise donnie
-They're thirteen about to turn fourteen when they start working with silco and they're fifteen when they "die" and leave to topside . they itty bitty
-also YES they do have a techbo and YES it is equipped with many explosives and whatnot and there's even more after they leave silco because they're paranoid a little bit

several r simply based on color schemes along w something that resembles imo that color scheme while also making me think of duo in questions friendship!!! those being:
“gingerbread” comes from scoobys brown fur n daphnes ginger hair while also to me emanating this warm comforting homeliness where i was especially thinking of all the instances where daph knows exactly what to do to comfort scoob waugh
“citrus” comes from ofc velma being orange + shaggy being green (like a lime!!!) while having that food connection for shaggy. citrus fruits always remind me of summer, which in turn reminds me of scooby doo as a franchise bc its always the time they do rerun marathons on tv….
“breezy” comes from blue n green both being cool colors i associate with spring specially a characteristic mild spring breeze n ofc things fly in the breeze like how shaggy often flies into freds arms at any hint of danger. HONESTLY i think my logic for yhis one might be a bit harder to follow but trust me
“sunset” ORANGE N PURPLE BABEY!!! sunset is a time where opposites meet and while i dont personally view them as such velma + daphne are certainly often characterized or deemed by others as that. sunset blends day n night together, reminding us that often those that appear to be opposites will have more in common + be closer to each other than it first seems. u know
“horizon” maintaining the velma sun imagery sure sure and fred as the boundless sky but the horizon is something constant right? throughout the day it keeps everything on track by having the sun + sky work together
OK now for the others:
“grover” JUST THE TWO OF US 😭😭😭 in everything scooby + shaggy are ALWAYS together sometimes the others arent there, but they r ALWAYS by each others side. theyre the absolute best of friends man 😭😭😭 we can make it it we try 😭😭
“chosen” LIVED IN A WORLD WHERE THAT SDMI PLOTLINE DIDNT EXIST WHEN I CAME UP WITH THIS ONE ☹️☹️☹️ but ANYWAY its a ref to how in scooby goes hollywood theres the “backstory” scene where they go to the pet store + they meet scooby as a puppy for the first time n its VELMA who lifts him out of his lil box + says “i think hes wonderful” she chooses him and ive always loved that SO much like its always stuck w me even if its not the origin story i personally subscribe to its such an important scene to me…..
“six degrees” six degrees of separation babey!!!! between fred + scooby one thing they have in common is ofc their voice actor mr frank welker whos been voicing fred since the start n scooby since whats new….was especially thinking abt the scene in wheres my mummy where fred is imitating scooby LMFAO

theres this really good vid on youtube that id personally recommend you check out first, because it really helped me for my character design skills. after watching this vid, you can check out my list of additional tips that helped my character design skills for the better! you dint have to follow all of my tips if you dont want to, they just helped me in my artist journey :)

1.watch what interests you & study it!
sometimes watching shows & studying how they design characters, compose shots, use colors, etc. while watching can really help shape you as an artist! if ur a bit lost on where to start try finding model sheets of the characters from your favorite animated shows to understand the process of how your favs are designed, drawn, & finalized in the show! heres some things ive checked out for the past 3 years & helped influenced how i draw today!
something ive noticed when watching the things im interested in is the kind of art style being used: all of these examples tend to use heavy stylized shape language in their character designs, & most of them use thick black outlines to make the characters contrast from their environment (ofcourse theres a few lineless exceptions like fakin it, mr messy, & fosters for a few examples)
watching what interests you and analyzing the art style & character design can really help improve your character design skills!! it also helps to break down simple shapes in a character’s design to understand how theyre constructed & what makes them appealing.
2. warm up drawing!
another thing that helps is to draw warm ups! these are vital for the process of your finalized designs usually, as they help layout the structure, the pose, the direction for the line of action, etc.! speaking of which, a good helpful resource to start would be lineofaction.com! it has a lot of helpful resources for artists of all skill levels & help optimize your understanding of anatomy! the link to this is posted below:
3. dont immediately go with your first draft. experiment!
instead of going for your first draft of a design, try experimenting & see what works! if you nail the design on the first draft, thats really impressive! for me, some character designs take longer to finalize than others, but the payoff is absolutely worth it! its always helpful to design & redesign a character until you have a design you’re satisfied with.
4. have fun!
ik this is a basic tip but. generally having fun with designing characters & creating them is essential. whether you’re making little mind babies called ocs or reimagining existing characters, make the process engaging and worthwhile! otherwise character design can be just as tedious as working in the coal mines & writing lengthy essays for school/college assignments.

Can we have some Salem facts? I Adore them
- He's a manlet! (at least compared to Belos) Like, pretty much around Hunter's height, just a few centimeters taller or so, like this drawing shows. So like, about 1,65/5'4"
(still taller than me, though fjsjdnfnd)
- They're also pretty religious, which is a reason why they like going to the Knee, since its a very important place for witches to connect with the Titan. Which is another point of identity crisis and etc when he discovers that Belos might be lying about a lot
- I based his scars on Dell's, or at least the lineless ones. Those are all Belos related. I do actually have a post queued for either today or tomorrow that explains most of the ones he has on his arms.
He also doesnt really dwell or feel bad about his scars, at most theres just some annoyance about their hand tremors but even then they are managing it okay-ish
- I have songs and colors that I associate with my GGs and on Salem's case it's Honey I'm Home by Ghost and their theme color is white/very light grey
- They're very blunt and go on a bunch of thought tangents, which makes it fun to write from their pov. But theyre not very introspective and doesnt question much if they dont have a reason to.
- The way I see his not that great behaviour is cruelty and indifference for the ones he's harming most of the time, and distancing himself from the actual harm he's doing. i didn't want to make them very over the top cartoonish evil or anything very quick to spot.
He's cruel in the way people who seem nice are, hidden and excused by well meaning pretendes, which is quite hard to illustrate, i don't actually draw much exploration of them in their own little story besides near their death because of it and also because contrary to Cain, Salem doesnt really have anyone for me to work him with besides Belos and like, random scouts. And i also haven't drawn much of that because Im still figuring out what exactly he has done.
This is all very rough still. A lot can change
(they do believe they are doing the right thing but that also coexists with them not feeling much remorse when they are intentionally and knowingly cruel)
- Ironically they are very squeamish about death and etc. Kind of a Robespierre kind of deal, if I am getting things right about that. Executing this from a distance for most of the time. I have been wondering if they would have a nickname like The Golden Fist or something like that.
-Maybe if he lived longer he would have had a big change of heart and stop being so blindly obedient and would try to help people instead of hurting them. That would have him killed too though. Just later than when it actually happened.
- He was one of Belos' favorite grimwalkers, so much so that he is actually on the GG mind graveyard, which was where i took inspiration for their hair when it isnt in a bun
- As far as how close they look to Caleb, theyre actually like, third in closest resemblance. In second place theres Orien and then in first its Hunter.
- His whole story and not so great personality were not actually with him from the start. When i made them, they were basically just a design and name, and slowly i added them discovering about grimwalkers being what ends up making them "betray" Belos, and they were actually nice, but i had been looking at some posts about how not all grimwalkers must have been nice people and I wanted to make at least one of mine like that and they were the most interesting one for me to do that.
Him not being nice was decided after i made that whole sheet/reference post about the basics about him.
I didn't think id have much to say about them but apparently i do gjdjfjf. I know that i draw him a lot but its usually just mindless sitties or outfit drawings, not really exploring his character like I do with Cain. Hope you liked these Salem facts!

hi i have a goth fashion question
i can't really wear boots for accessibility reasons and i don't like the look of those wednesday-ass soft-goth ankle platforms - what do about shoes?
i usually wear like, black sneakers, but i would really like gothy shoes...
it really depends on what kinda sub-style youre going for, and your own aesthetic preferences, on top of the greater specifics of your accessibility limitations, but you almost certainly do have a lot of options
first, i wanna say there are a lot of fun and easy ways you can customize your own shoes: adding bits of metal and beads to the laces, chains to the body of the shoe, spikes, buttons, patches, etc. i decorate my sneakers and skate shoes like that (there is plenty goth is a classic pair of black canvas shoes or whatever imo plain or decorated)
if you dont wanna risk ruining a shoe i suggest practicing stuff like adding spikes, bars, studs and whatnot to scrap fabric or even canvas shoes from the thrift store, but a lot of other mods like beads and chains or whatever aint permanent mods and can be done and undone easy.
also on the note of thrift shops, just go often and keep an eye out on the shoes, and think outside the box too. goth fashion isnt the absence of any color or individual items style as a rule or anything, so if you see something you like and think you could work into a look go for it
now diy and thrift aside: it sounds like you wanna avoid softer, overly fem fashions? as in not a fan of gothic lolita, pastel, or maybe the poofier side or romatic gothic? regardless id pay attention to the low... rise (is that the right word for shoes?) footwear of the mens side of victorian, romantic, gothabilly, and ig maybe hippy (is that what they still call it?) sub goth fashions, as those aint nearly as boot heavy as things like traditional, cyber, etc.
emo, punk, and metal fashion is worth paying attention too here as well since all of these subcultures overlap in fashion heavily and, again, those guys aint always as boot heavy. well they have their own share of boots but you get the idea
if you wanna get into more specific shoes, im personally a fan of the look of platform sneakers which are unisex in presentation and funny as hell in a very cool way imo. i have some Yosuke brand ones, and i find them to be quality. platform sneakers own, who doesnt want 4 inch tall gym shoes? also a lot come in fun patterns, colors, or with shiny metal bits already added
demonia creeper-600s (as in ones in the 600 line) may also be more your speed than other sets in the same creeper style. i think mens dress shoes are also a good source, particularly Delray, Hancock, and San Marco styles- but theyre all pretty good and im just biased. throwing in a kinda fancy lookin shoe to an otherwise casual goth-y look is always fun, and in my experience you can work them in effectively to basically all of the sub styles with just a little effort
if you really want the sorta... leg-coverage look a boot gives you could also get into legwarmers and i mean that. they come in lots of cool styles and colors or you can make or customize your own. i have some, its fun
i wish i could give better advise or help more, but i hope this is at least a rant full of google prompts that will help you in some way

theyre all cute, but i really like loven and sandel :) do you have any character blurbs for the cast? you mentioned that theyre pretty disconnected, but in a theoretical situation where they all meet, would any of them get along in particular?
also i would love to hear about any inspos for the design process, the variety in the group is so fun, it makes me curious!
sandel and loven fucking hate each other actually the characters do have opinions on each other unfortunately these two do not like each other much
sourcing design insp for sandels hard his designs been the same since 2014 like literally all thats new is his shirt has blue on it now too. i know despite being a spider his colors and body shape were based on the raisant from viva pinata lol.
loven kept call her colors from her old design but recently had a big revamp to suit her flirty personality more. her biggest insp in design is sena from the band jiluka but also vkei in general (toramaru bebikin also bc my fav band)
sandel is the protags childhood friend and probably the most sane character in the cast hes not super layered his backstory is the same as the players due to being raised closely. he sorta babies the protag tho he has a general protective nature and a lot of his route focuses on getting him to treat you equally rather than like something he needs to always protect
loven eats people—sorry I literally dont know a better place to start with him. loven uses all pronouns sorry if i switch a lot. hes part of a species that compared to all the other monster species in this world are still more traditional and secluded. theyre pretty much never seen outside of their own villages and even those are hidden. theyre a species of shapeshifters, the general kind that transforms into different creatures to lure them in and prey on them. loven uh. can't..transform fully. big projecting onto ur own character thing but she simply struggled when learning the magic and gave up and is afraid to try and learn again esp bc her family arent like..the nicest about her struggle. the closest she can get to human is how u see her usually drawn but shes found a lot of people are into furries and this works just fine in luring prey in anyways lol.
shes really flirty but in an aggressive way due to the whole predatory creature nature and the player being human but they work off each other in a way. they like that he fights back thats probably the only reason that they stopped considering him for a snack and instead for partnership. tho their moods can be a little all over the place so theyre hard to understand at times. saying outright loven has untreated autism like full stop that is my intention bc i also have autism.
