Gwitch and Minimum Viable Queerness
Trusting companies to make queer art is always asking for heart break even when it really and deeply seems like they made some queer art. However, despite my love for Gundam: The Witch From Mercury it must be said there is plenty of issues with the show that pointed towards the direction they have gone now that we've entered the post release era.
In the magazine Gundam Ace they edited our a writer stating that Sulleta and Mio were married. They apologized for that statement ever making it in to begin with on Twitter the X gonna give to you dot bomb with this.
Tumblr media
This obviously lead to tons of angry fans and queer folks but it wasn't like this came out of nowhere. Despite some people saying it's just "western brained losers" or something that thought there was queer bait in the Witch From Mercury there is something that queer people forget which is that most straight cis people literally have no brain cells. They espically have an inability to see sapphic relationships as real or valid.
Gundam The Witch From Mercury was explicit, more explicit than a lot of media but they intentionally excluded the three universal signifiers of romantic or sexual love from the show despite it being centered for all 24 episodes around the Sulmio engagement. These three signifiers are an "I love you" "I Love You too", a kiss, or fucking. Gundam is a toy commercial for kids so while sex is probably not on the table it isn't actually even off the table for Gundam given the series history has had off scene sex and bad stuff too like adult women trying to seduce like a 10 year old boy. So like these shows aren't afraid to do some shit. Many say that Gundam doesn't do kisses that is a lie, Z, 00, Seed, and Iron Blooded Orphans's all have done kisses. I love yous also happen across the series, the end of G Gundam has a special love attack that blows up the last boss.
Tumblr media
This is all to say Gundam: The Witch From Mercury activated a strategy corporate media called minimum viable queerness. In order to get the gay dollar, to seem progressive, whatever it may be a company will do as little gay as they can get away with to get the gays actively invested in their art. Ultimately, their aim is to have it be blaringly obvious to queer folks but invisible to the hets. The show also did the minimum viable amount of women making sure the men had utterly meaningless fights near the end just for women to be on screen less. These fights involve men who are not either of the main two girls getting mad at each other for some kind of connection or action towards one of the girls. These take up a significant amount of the second seasons run time not to mention one of these men got a full episode devoted to him. Meanwhile the main couple of the show was away from each other for the vast majority of episodes, almost never in the same room and almost exclusively on somewhat bad terms.
In the show Sulleta is the main character but in season one she is mostly piloting against men with one fight against a pair of girls near the end. Chuchu is given sidekick pilot status and lives to the end but she doesn't get her own highlighted battle ever unlike a side side character in Guel's brother who gets a major fight against his brother weighted against the fate of quite zero and Sulleta and Ariel fighting. Which comes after Guel fought Shadiq for no reason which came after Guel fighting Sulleta again for Ariel which came after Guel trying to survive in a mech when he was stuck on earth earlier. Guel was in a mech 1 more time than Sulleta was in season 2. The two other witch girls die in their first and second time respectively of being in a gundam in season 2 and the second of the pair gets maybe a word in with our main character her whole existence and never talks to our secondary main character at all. The action is still in large part being given to men even in the woman centric series.
And in this "queer centered" story we see very explicit delectations of feelings from Guel, Shadiq, Petra and Lauda which are all heterosexual ontop of all the adult characters being hetero, implied hetero E5 with Nora dying for considering being with a man and E5 sexually harassing Sulleta. The series overwhelming overcompensates for it's queerness by aggressively pushing straightness and in particular having other main characters want our lesbians heterosexually.
This does not mean that the writers or animations didn't want to be more explicit or that they did a bad job. they did a great job but we cannot know what is Namco Bandai and what is Sunrise. We just can't but it seems given recent statements that likely Bandai was very hands on in controlling the show. Not to mention giving it's first woman lead series a much shorter run time than most other Gundam series got and intentionally closing it off from an easy sequel series despite it being the most profitable series ever for them.
It appears to me as if Namco Bandai's intention was to convert a bunch of lesbians into gundam fan and throw mild gay bait at us to keep us coming now that we converted, far less explicit than Sulleta and Mio but attempting to ride it out in good faith and have us enjoy the men shows that appealed to boys to not break their delusion that they are making a boys toy for boys. Feeding us right into more Gundam Seed is like trying to choke out any potential life and I think we're gonna see a decline in Gundam sales following Gwitch representing the betrayal of these sapphic fans but more so simply the lack of interest in the bar being lowered.
As fans of Gwitch we need to demand better, it does work, we've seen companies fix statements about Sailor Uranus and Neptune before and other similar instances. We can also make them see if they want to reach the high highs again we need the great shit we get in Gwitch but then even more that the minimum we'll let them get away with is far more than the last time.
If you enjoyed this post consider throwing me some money on Patreon to help me make actually queer art without corporations controlling my voice. I'm hoping to write a bit more about minimum viable queerness in the future but I wanted to really just talk about this while I was mad about it and get it up there. Anyway, back to the writing mines with me, hope you have a great day and go out there and be gay.

Another of these OC fashion posts, because I miss them. This time featuring Isabelle when she's an adult post game events. Here's the og post of her when she's young.
Tumblr media
Isabelle when she finally managed to go home, take a witch craft apprenticeship and is constantly going back and forth in the Devildom. I think her style generally darkened as she got older and her taste changed. Like instead of more pastel blues and yellows, she tends to wear deeper blues and warmer Autumn-yellows. She's not full goth, but there's a bit of that in there. I also think Isabelle is big into thrifting, something she picked up when she lived in Twisted Wonderland and didn't have a ton of money, and I feel like thrifting on the Devildom would be insane. All these demons getting rid of clothes they've had for centuries. You'll find her in an Edwardian blouse layered under a 90s mini dress and boots from the 60s. It's all very eclectic. I also think the Crewels by the time she left had a good deal of influence on her fashion sense. So Isabelle still likes very form fitting dresses that flatter her and layer them with a coat that has some sort of furry trim. And if she doesn't have a fuzzy coat, she still some longer layer that is very flowy and long. There's always a lot of texture in her outfits. You'll a lot of lace, velvet, fur, leather all over an outfit. Nothing ever blends together.
Tumblr media
Eventually when she returns to Twisted Wonderland and eventually marries Malleus, she obviously has to dress the part of Briar Queen. At least for formal occasions. Again, Isabelle isn't full goth, though there is some Gothic influence in her clothes, and that mostly comes out for formal Briar Valley settings, where she has to be the queen of the dark fae next to Malleus. Even though some the dresses I found are all black, I think there would be more deep reds, emerald greens, dark blues and gold also in her gowns. Even if they're just accents. Again as her casual wear, lots of lace and different fabrics. Plenty of flowy skirts and fitted tops with cool sleeves. Lots of off the shoulder looks, just because I think thats one of the bigger details of Belles ball gown. I also see Isabelle having a lot of rose motifs in her looks. You'll find it on accessories or the pattern of her clothes. Malleus is the briars and she is the roses, that is their Thing.
Tumblr media
Another aspect of Adult Isabelle, once she returns to Twisted Wonderland, is that she reunites with Divus and Lilith and also occasionally writes for Divine Magazine and publish her own novels. (Though maybe under a pen name or her Maiden name maybe.) So Isabelle is often going with Lilith to major fashion and publishing events or just going around shopping with her. It's more or less a more designer version of what she would have normally worn. Still with the furry coats and the form fitting dresses. And much more red, black, and white. She has to put on the appearance of the Crewels heiress now returned, after all. I can even see people online doing side by side comparisons of Isabelles outfit next to Young Lilith, the Crewels influenced her clothing THAT much, especially in settings like that where she's with them.

Did some rearranging of this area. It’s not my favorite part of my room mostly because the collections in it are still ~in progress~ so it feels incomplete, but I also need spaces where I can afford to add more things, so that part is good.
If you’d like to read a spiel on my display area, here’s one below.
Bookshelf:
I’ve been collecting the Hanako kun manga as it’s published for a few years. I fell behind a bit though because I started to wonder if omnibuses will come out soon and if they’ll be super pretty. I deliberately bought FMA as single volumes for nostalgia, but Chobits I have as omnibuses and they’re so beautiful. Witch Hat Atelier I’m already waiting on omnibuses for so I started thinking I’ll regret buying TBHK this way. Especially as space is at a premium.
Under that is a sort of misc shelf. It’s mostly Nier books (world guides 1 & 2, Yorha manga, Newtype magazine, & a fan comic) but I added my scant CD collection to fill it in. I’m trying to move into physical media more, so I’d also like to put art books there as I collect them.
Last shelf is 2B & 9S’ little nook. I gave up a whole shelf for them but there’s not many other places I could keep them.
I have more manga on the other side of the room. I’ll keep buying the Yorha manga, but otherwise I don’t have any series immediately buying. Books are not high on my priority list and thinking about where I’d put more is stressful LOL
Corner shelf:
This one’s very miscellaneous but I bought it as spillover for my action figures.
I used to keep action figures in the display case, but now I keep only scales in there. I have a huge aversion to mixing figure types in my displays. It just doesn’t feel right to me. I also don’t like grouping by series. I did it a little here, but the figures are mostly just the same type.
First shelf is my 9S action figures. This is the closest thing I have to a shrine lol. I latch onto so many obscure characters that it’s fun to have a fave who gets tons of attention. I buy ones that are different sizes so the collection feels interesting. If I come across the Bring Arts I may get it. Otherwise, I plan to get just the announced nendo doll. Oh but the Formisms…ah…those too.
Next shelf is my homunculi nendo dolls. I decided to make the 7 in 2020 and I still haven’t done it so it’s just 3. BOOOO me BOOOO
Third shelf is nendos and nendo dolls. I thought about gutting this collection since I don’t play with them anymore. Having the figures off the shelf and out to sell was stressing me out though, so they will survive a little longer. Some time when I’m free I’ll see who goes. I genuinely like the figures so it’s just a matter of knowing having them enables me to buy more when I know I won’t touch them.
Shelf under that is what’s left of my once huge figma collection. I’ve kept 5 for nostalgia reasons.
And you can’t see it but under that is my one Disney doll who I waffle on whether I should keep. It’s one I had custom painted and she’s beautiful so, ah…

YOU! This is a progress check! How many projects are you working on? How many do you plan to do? AUs are included! What’s your oldest project and what’s your newest one? Which one do you wish to work more on and which one has the most work?
Hum… I’m working on a ton of projects rn including school ones, like I have a 16 page magazine to finish by Thursday that’s the main one and I’m panicking. also there’s some commissions left to do. For AUs I’m working on the new au (the seven mysteries au), it’s a short one and I have no further plan for it. Im also working on the Witch au, this is gonna be a long running one cause I really want to tell the story, currently I have one animatic in my pocket yet to post, and a small magazine about Witch Sun’s human bone collection that is yet to be finished, both are school assignment I just decided to sneak my witches in jfbfkdjdirjsndj.
I don’t know how many projects I’m planning to make I love digging holes for myself to fill and I will be doing that to the end of my days.
My newest project is the new au I’m working on the ghost au 2.0 one, the oldest is probably the comic I made in elementary school XDD fun fact one of them I’m still working on till this day, it’s not a comic anymore just concept now but it’s been like 8 years.
I want to work more on the Celestial Twin au, I have some comics that I still haven’t got to finish and I want to draw some more light stuff, like their daily shenanigans, y’all have had enough angst from them they deserve to be happy.
The one has the most work that is out in the public is still the celestial twins, the one that has most lore and unpublished work is one my original story, I’m not working on that anymore but it’s still in the back of my mind and as my emotional support bdjsnskefbxnx

Thanks @dance2xrevolution <3
I always love to see you around.
favorite time of year: Halloween actually! It's fun to see the decoration and stuff, watch tons of horror movies, dress up, etc. I also love summer nights (when not trying to sleep), and when it's very sunny but there's also wind so the sky is beautiful but the wind helps tame the heat.
comfort food: fajitas, fried chicken, risotto, curry, soup... if I love it, it's comforting!
favorite dessert: concorde chocolate cake, île flottante, chocolate mousse
things you collect: at one point I was collecting the Umineko manga collection because I was in my Umineko era, but there were 21 omnibusses at 25-30 euros the omnibus if you were lucky. eventually decided it was much more handy (and cheaper) to have them digitally instead.
Tumblr media
See the issue?
If you're curious, my physical collection comprises of the first two Episodes, Legend of the Golden Witch and Turn of the Golden Witch. Then digitally (through Kobo), I've got the third Episode (Banquet, vol. 5&6), Vol. 10 (first vol. of Episode 5, End), the sixth Episode (Dawn, vol. 13-15) and the eight and final Episode (Twilight, vol. 19-21). My reasoning was that I wanted to go chronological, but I was already not fond of Banquet (though with distance I can appreciate its chaotic approach), then I think Alliance mostly sucks. End is great but I never re-read it, Dawn is great too, Requiem (Episode 7) was perfect when I read it in VN but I never felt the need to read the manga, and Twilight is a good Episode and most importantly, the manga version actually adds stuff for the better!
So I've got 13/21 volumes.
I also collected a few Spider-Man comic books. I'm not a big collector in general but I *would* have an entire room dedicated to Virtue's Last Reward if I could and wanted to.
Tumblr media
Hi baby
favorite drinks: Cherry Coke, Milk + Strawberry Syrup
favorite musician/band: CAPSULE (Japanese electro) is regularly something I come back to, but nowadays I'm much less fixated on specific bands. I had a Jamiroquai phase but I was so into it that nowadays I pretty much can't stand it.
Now if we're talking *composers*, I'd say Masafumi Takada and Shinji Hosoe are mainstays.
last song listened to: Owner of a Lonely Heart by Yes
last movie watched: A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge! Very gay, enjoyed it much more than the first one.
last series watched: I recently finished She-Hulk, absolutely loved it. I'm also rewatching Glee.
Also this wasn't asked but video games are an important component of my life so I very recently finished Metroid Dread and loved its challenge. Also going through Picross S, it's great but literally lead me to stay up all night hahaha
currently watching: DS9 (less than a season per year lmao), Merli: Sapere Aude (love triangles, bisexual protagonist, philosophy...), Spider-Man 1994 (almost finished with S1 and very impressed), Brideshead Revisited (I think I stalled it).
current obsession: Glee, in a way. Bears. Buffy still? Kind of. I mean I just bought a magazine about it.
dream place to visit: Nothing! I'm pretty content with where I went. I think I realized that no place will ever be as charming as you could dream of. I'm very happy with where I am right now, where I was last year, and I don't feel the place to go anywhere specific.
places you wanna go back to: Austria, where I was last year. I miss my city very dearly. I also enjoy the south of France in small doses. I'd like to go back to Saint Emilion because it's very charming.
something you want: nothing again! I feel pretty content in an achievable category of things. I don't think I let myself want anything I can't have.
but also I really want Adderall (or Ritalin, whatever).
project working on: Another fantranslation (ugh), the Glee Rewatch project (link on my pinned masterpost!), maybe a fanfic, maybe video essays... mostly I just finished an exhausting week so I'm. sleeping. or trying to.
I'm tagging anyone who sees this post and wants to participate!

On the 24th of November, twenty three years ago, the PlayStation 2 was released in Europe. Playing on it was among my favourite pastimes as a kid and I have many amazing and fond memories. To celebrate, I wanna share my favourite PS2 era games of all time. Not all of them are PS2 exclusives, in fact I think most of them aren't, but for me there were no other options honestly. I had no idea what a GameCube or an Xbox were until much later in life and PC gaming, due to my very old pc from the 90s, and due to thinking that you can only play with your mouse and keyboard, always looked inferior to me.
Now, most of these games on the following list I own, or owned, a few of them I had either borrowed from friends, played with said friends on their PS2, rented or only played demos of (until much later) and a very few of these games I actually played later on PS3 or PS4 remasters, but I decided to include them anyway because of all the fond memories I had, even if they were made in my teenage or young adult years, I think they still count lol
Tumblr media
1. Tomb Raider: Legend - Tomb Raider is my favourite video game series ever and Lara Croft is my hero. It all started with Legend!
2. Tekken 5 - My love for fighting games probably started with this one. It was the very first fighting game I ever owned, possibly the very first I ever played too.
3. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - I fell in love with the world of Narnia when the respective movie came out and dove deep into the books and franchise as a whole. This was the very first PS2 game I ever purchased, before my dad would only get me the demos included in the official PlayStation magazine as he thought it was better value for money to get multiple games at once, even if it were just demos lol
4. Sly 3: Honour Among Thieves - This is probably the game I rented the most. It was during summer vacation styling at my uncle's place. My cousins also had a PS2 of their own and my uncle would take us to the video store after going to the beach and we would each rent a game. This was my choice, most of the time, until I finally beat it! It was among the first games I ever beat!
5. Sonic Heroes - I was obsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog as a kid. I still think very fondly of the series, but haven't kept up with it as much after Unleashed I think. Heroes will forever be my favourite because of how many of the series characters are to play with!
6. Jak X: Combat Racing - This was actually the first game I ever owned but, I didn't purchase it, I actually got my cousin to give it to me lol. I think it ignited my love for kart racing lol
7. Final Fantasy X - I remember trying a demo of it as a kid and thinking "Wtf is this, why do I select combat moves, why can't I move around this sucks"... So it wasn't until I was a young adult that I actually gave the franchise a fair chance and X is definitely among my favourites now.
8. Sonic Mega Collection Plus - This I included because of the retro games in general. Of course I spent hours playing this on my PS2 and then I gave it to my brother who still loves Sonic a lot. But before that, we used to have an old PC at Grandma's house in the countryside where we would spend summer vacation. So an older cousin had installed some sort of emulator featuring tons of old Sega games on that PC and me and my younger cousins would play hours upon hours of Sonic 1, 2 and 3 on it before eventually moving the party to PS2s in later years!
9. SoulCalibur III - This is peak SoulCalibur for me. I used to play the demo of it before eventually managing to get my hands on a copy of it during the PS2s later years (c. 2008-2010)
10. Tekken Tag Tournament - I remember a friend of my dad's gave away a bunch of old games he had to us, so I got this after Tekken 5 was already out, but I still loved getting to play as Jun or Kunimitsu or Forest or Michelle and I also loved playing Tekken Bowl. Even my mum, who doesn't really play video games, enjoyed playing Tekken Bowl with my brother!
11. Resident Evil 4 - Okay. This might sound weird but, until c. 2010 I had never ever heard of Resident Evil in general, I don't know how or why, and I never actually got to play any of them until I played Resident Evil 6 with a friend. By the time I had gotten my PS4, I had become very invested in the series and started trying to get my hands on as many of them as I could. Resident Evil 4 is definitely among my favourites so, even though it's cheating, I'm including it on my list.
12. LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures - Funnily enough, I never had any interest in LEGO, I was on team Playmobil, or Indiana Jones for that matter, I think I only became aware of who he is after the fourth movie was out and promo for it was everywhere. But when it came to LEGO video games, I had tons of fun playing demos of LEGO Star Wars (another franchise I did not and still don't care for) and LEGO Batman before it and I had tons of fun! So I decided to pick Indiana Jones up as the first full LEGO game I owned. I wouldn't necessarily call myself an Indiana Jones fan, but I got around to watching the first four movies multiple times, all because of this game!
13. Sly 2: Band of Thieves - This is another cheat, because I played this game through the PS3 collection remaster for the first time, but my love for the third game prompted me to include it on my list. And it's a great game on its own of course.
14. Tomb Raider: Anniversary - By the time Anniversary was out, my original fat PS2 had died so I asked for a new one, and guess which game was bundled with it! I only owned a demo version of Legend before that, so Anniversary was actually the first Tomb Raider game I owned, despite being the third one I played!
15. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I got into my Harry Potter phase sometime between the release of the fourth and fifth movie. In between that time period I read all the books that were out at the time (were Deathly Hallows already out? I don't remember) and played as many of the games as I could get my hands on. Order of the Phoenix is my favourite book, movie and game of the series.
16. The Sims 2: Pets - I was debating between this and Castaway but I ultimately went with this. I know it's nowhere near comparable to the PC experience but I didn't know what Sims on the PC was all about at the time so I felt like this was the shit 🤣 it still has its own charm regardless
17. Ultimate Spider-Man - I was never big on comic book heroes. Batman and Spider-Man were probably the two solo exceptions. I guess it's no coincidence that these two get the best video games too! I haven't really bothered with the PS4 and PS5 games, played a little bit of the first one and didn't much care for it, but THIS one I really like!
18. Final Fantasy XII - Again, like with Final Fantasy X, this is a cheat, but I'm too invested in this game lol
19. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - While I much prefer Order of the Phoenix's free exploration of Hogwarts, I love that you can choose between Harry, Ron and Hermione in this one!
20. Shadow of the Colossus - I only owned a demo of this which ended after defeating Barbas so I never got to experience the whole thing until the COVID lockdowns when it was included as the free PS+ subscription game at one point or another and I finally got to play the whole thing! But even then, the little I had played as a kid was enough for it to be permanently engrained in my mind. I was so in awe by this game, still am.
21. Dead or Alive 2: Hardcore - Dead or Alive is my second favourite fighting game series after Tekken, and it's all mostly thanks to this game. Although I never actually owned it myself, a friend and then my cousins did so we would spend hours playing together either this or Tekken 5.
22. Sonic Riders - Again, only ever owned a demo of this. I did end up buying Zero Gravity, but there's something particular about this game's aesthetics that made me obsessed with it. The concept on its own still sounds so unbelievably cool to me and I wish Sega and Team Sonic would revive this sub-series some day! It's intro cinematic is the coolest shit ever.
23. SoulCalibur II - "Is that the one with Link in it?" No, because the GameCube does not exist silly, remember? I remember playing as Cassandra in the demo of II. The game is amazing, and I can see why many prefer it over SoulCalibur III, but to me it's the other way around. Still a great game though
24. Madagascar - I only ever played demos of it and rented it but never completed it. I did get the second one, but this was the shit. I vividly remember doing various tasks that would earn me pieces of a makeshift Statue of Liberty that the gang was making in hopes that someone would see the fire from the torch and come get them. I remember actually making drawings of castaway statue of liberty lol.
25. God of War II - I never cared much for excessive violence and gore or naked ladies but, greek mythology is right up my alley so this aspect of god of war always appealed to me. It's also why I don't care for the newer games as much; I appreciate that Kratos is no longer annoying and screaming but I got enough of my Norse fix from Skyrim and Valhalla, I really don't care to see any more of it. Also: Greek Mythology > Egyptian Mythology >>>>> Norse Mythology. I'm sorry it's the rules

Ahhhhh here it is!!!! Sorry for taking a bit on this one, I had HUGE brainrot abt this and I wanted to make it good!! Anyways, I'm starting up fairy Bakugou x witch! Reader headcanons, so there's that to wait for now lol
I hope you enjoy this one sweets!
Soft mafia! Bakugou x reader headcanons
[Edited...kinda]
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Tumblr media
-Bakugou Katusuki is one of the more famous people in the fashion industry. He has his own magazine company, Inferno de louvre. He is charming and suave, professional as ever. Behind the curtain, however, he is a ruthless but still professional, mob boss!
- but the only person he wouldn't DARE lay a finger on, is you. His doll. His baby. His lover.
- you two met in a small Cafe. Bakugou was taking break while you were studying for an upcoming exam. (You're in uni btw lol)
- you had noticed a slender, fantastic man come in through the doors of the Cafe and he noticed you too.
-even though you both knew nothing about eachother, Bakugou felt intrigued by your mystery and came up to your table and asked you a simple question.
- "this seat taken doll?" He asked smoothly.
-that was the best decision he made in his life. After a few dates, you two got together and my God, is it wonderful!
- once you two get into a relationship, get READY for a shit ton of gifts. Very expensive gifts as well.
-bakugou has never really had a relationship like yours and to be honest, he's quite intimidated by it because he's scared about how he'll perform in the relationship. So, to express his emotions of love to you, he gives you gifts.
-you did find them quite charming and spectacular but he figured out later that just going on a simple walk through the park, with make you happy and later on in the relationship, he sort of chills out on the gifts, but still from time to time  you may see a valuable necklace on your desk with a small note saying,
- thought of  you when I saw this. Gorgeous and radiant, but not as attractive as you, love ~♡
- butterflies. Chills. Mush. What did you do to get this man?
- sometimes, he gets real stressed from work and a tight schedule, which will lead to him having just a bit of stubble from not having enough time to shave.
- before, he hated this. He thought it made him disheveled and non professional, but after you came into his life, he came to love whenever he would have stubble.
- you would put your hands on his face and softly drag your fingers against the rough surface, cooing at him abut how pretty he looks with stubble and that he should shave less often.
- *insert blushy bakubabes*
- also after work when bakugou comes home, you just have dinner ready for him and afterwards you take care of any wounds that he may have (until after you've heard all of his protests about how he's fine but wincing when you poke the healing bullet wound from last time. Just let me clean the wound, Katsuki.).
- Then you put a nice bath for him and massage any sore spots he has. (Bc being a boss is hard)Then you both lay on your king size bed and watch movies while you two cuddle and fall asleep in eachothers arms, safe and sound.
- usually, Bakugou sometimes comes home with a new wound from a fight or whatnot and you're fine with that, but when he fights for "your honor"
- he better be ready for you to chew him out on fighting a random stranger just because he called you a slut for being with Bakugou.
-sure, you were okay with bakugou just talking to him abt it, BUT NOT START A HUGE FIST FIGHT OVER IT AND OH MY GOD KATSUKI HE HAS A KNIFE AND-
-intro to you bandaging up bakugous side, all bloody and messy, while screeching in his ear about how he could've gotten killed, you shouldn't have done that, you would've been fine, AND DO YOU HAVE TO FIGHT EVERYONE????
- after the ranting and you two have claimed down, bakugou spends all day reassuring you and apologising (bc you're still pissed abt it) and cooking your favorite dish as an apology. (You forgave him with a smooch)
- back to the beggining, Bakugou is in the fashion industry, his parents were, so why shouldn't he? Baugou was always into fashion, judging people's outfits with his mother behind their backs on outings, observing his father working on a new line, and overall, his life was full of fashion.
- with that, he also has developed a very tight knit style that made him look professional, but at the same time hot as fuck.
- with his work in clothing, while working on a new outfit, he would sometimes think of you in them, blush and smile at him while raving about it
- "Oh how beautiful this looks, Katsuki! I love it so dearly!!!"
-he would always blush at that thought, how beautiful you would look in all of those outfits and you would outshine even his best models. He's so lucky to have such a beautiful person like you♡
- and it's similar to when he's putting on an outfit for yourself! When he would look in the mirror and check himself out, his mind will always go to you. What will you think of it? will you like it?
-and you always do, when he comes into your work unexpectedly and you take your first look at him.
- without fail, he would always take your breath away and you would always compliment him
-"Damn baby you look so good!!"  "So pretty" "you look gorgeous"
-and always, it made his heart explode with happiness and pride.
-But his heart always exploded whenever he got to see you♡♡

Hey Mr. Sandman, You Missed a Spot
AO3
Summary:
It's not that Hunter doesn't ever sleep, Eda's come to realize. It was that he falls asleep sporadically, most of the time in really weird places.
Or: 5 times Eda catches Hunter taking a nap
Part 1 of the Finders Keepers Series
---
Here’s the thing about Eda: she loves naps. Eda likes to be cozy, so usually, that equated to curling up under a blanket, lazing around, and falling asleep. The Owl Beast shared that sentiment, the creature that lived within her constantly wanting to nest. Those animalistic instincts were weird, but when you lived in a house with a demon who also liked to bury himself under a pile of stuffed animals, you kind of got used to it.
Here’s the thing about Hunter: he doesn’t sleep.
The kid has been living with them for only about two weeks, officially replacing Eda as Public Enemy Numero Uno in the eyes of the Emperor. When he’d showed up on Hooty’s doorstep, all bloody and barely conscious, Eda thought it was some kind of cosmic trick. The Powers That Be had to be pulling her leg because this was the second time the leader of the Emperor’s Coven had shown up to the Owl House with nowhere else to go.
Luz had been ecstatic to welcome him in, apparently excited to finally fulfill her dreams of becoming a middle child in their weird little found family. King was less thrilled, but eventually warmed up to the idea of Hunter staying with them as long as he taught King his secrets on how to command an army.
Hunter himself even seemed unnerved at the thought of living with them. He tried to leave a few times when he was still wounded, but his little bird palisman (Rascal, she’s heard him say) effectively herded him back into the house by continuously dive-bombing him and nipping at his ears. And after Belos put out a wanted poster for the kid, making him the Isles’ number one most wanted traitor, leaving wasn’t really an option. Not if he wanted to stay alive.
So eventually, Hunter begrudgingly accepted that yeah, he lived in the Owl House now.
And alright, Eda isn’t heartless. The kid was lost, wounded, and an enemy of the Emperor. She can work with that.
Getting to know him has been a challenge, though. Hunter has a lot of weird quirks. He holds himself so seriously that Eda has a hard time remembering that he’s a teenager and not a fully grown middle-aged man. He hardly ever smiles. He’s jumpy, practically jolting out of his skin every time you walk into the same room. He’s clearly Going Through Some Shit, as Eda so eloquently calls it, remembering how Lily went through the same thing when she slowly broke free of Belos’s freaky subjugation.
But still. The kid doesn’t sleep.
Eda first notices it around day four of his residence. She’s up early to go to the market, stepping into the living room and nearly transforming into her Harpy Form out of pure shock when she sees a figure messing with her bookshelf in the back of the room. Wide maroon eyes lock on hers from across the room and she feels the feathers that sprung to her skin recede.
“Titan, kid,” she breaths, “You nearly killed me. What are you doing up? It’s Saturday, you should be sleeping in.”
“Um…I did sleep in,” Hunter responds, as if it’s obvious.
Eda feels a frown tug at her lips, “The sun isn’t even up yet.”
The kid just shrugs a little lamely, and Eda feels a twinge of concern in her chest. (And ugh, feeling concerned for a guy who dangled you over the Boiling Sea is certainly weird.) If this was sleeping in for him, he couldn’t have rested more than five hours.
She steps closer, taking a second look at what he’s doing. Half the books are spread out on the floor, the other half stacked neatly back on the shelves in some kind of order.
He notices her looking, “I, uh, took the liberty of reorganizing your bookshelf. Or organizing it, since it didn’t really seem to have a system.” The kid ducks his head, the tips of his ears flushing pink. “I- I can put it back the way it was if you want, or organize them in a different way.”
That’s another thing about Hunter: he always has to be doing something. Being useful. Without direction, he crumples. It was always, What do you want me to do now, Miss Clawthorne this and I completed this task, Miss Clawthorne, what’s next that. His brain operated on a transactional level—I do this thing for you, you do this thing for me. And since Eda was housing him, he felt like he had to constantly be doing things for her. Constantly proving himself worthy to be here, repaying her. Hunter couldn’t seem to wrap his head around that she didn’t want him to do anything except stay comfortable.
Eda has thought up a hundred different little tasks for him to do in just his first four days. She’s running out of odd jobs to give him, and if she has to keep telling him what to do she’s going to start pulling out her hair.
“You’re fine, kid,” she says. “Keep doin’ what you’re doin’ if it makes ya happy. But you shouldn’t be up this early. You should at least take a nap later.”
Hunter tilts his head. “But that wouldn’t be accomplishing anything.”
“You don’t hafta be working all the time,” Eda stresses. “It’s okay to sit around and just exist once and a while. Actually, I think that should be your priority. Take a nap, relax, go cloud watching, take a walk—any or all of the above.”
“That sounds like doing nothing.”
“That’s because it is doing nothing.”
His face hardens, taking on that soldier-like seriousness that encompasses his entire demeanor. “Being lazy can’t be a priority.”
“Don’t think of it like that, then,” Eda almost snaps, wishing for a nice hot mug of apple blood. It was too damn early to deal with the repercussions of Belos’s all-work-no-play mindset. “Think of it as acting your age. Did you ever get to take naps as a kid in the Emperor’s Coven? Is relaxing just a foreign concept to you?”
He doesn’t answer, staring at her with those bagged eyes and guarded expression, and Eda throws up her hands in defeat.
She leaves then, her patience running too thin to continue arguing with him. She doubts he’ll actually go back to sleep. He probably goes back to doing whatever he was doing with that bookshelf. Eda makes a mental note to tell King to knock all the books off, just so Hunter can reorganize it later. Just for something for him to keep him occupied.
1.
Eda doesn’t even notice the first time it happens. It was one of Luz’s friends, Gus, who pointed it out.
The kids were gathered at her home after school, spread out on the floor of the living room along with various pillows and blankets. Luz found some card game she knew buried somewhere in the piles of human trash Eda has laying around, and the girl has been spending the better part of an hour trying to explain how it works.
“So the Wild Card doesn’t make you turn into a wild animal?” Willow questions, holding up a black card with looks like a colorful pie chart on it.
“Nope!” Luz says cheerfully. “It just becomes any color you want it to be to go with the rest of your hand.”
“But the card doesn’t actually change color?” Amity asks.
“No, it only represents the color,” Luz clarifies, and Eda has to admit, her girl has a ton of patience. She’s been quietly watching from her place on the couch, half-listening to their conversation, half-reading the Isles’ latest edition of You Gossipy Witch, a tabloid where a writer is speculating about her true form. Apparently, some people think she was raised by feral, wild owls on some far away barrier island, and has come to reside in Bonesborough just because she ran out of mutant rats to eat.
Weird.
But entertaining!
Gus holds up one of his cards, “So are blank cards bad, or—"
King jumps over his shoulder, landing on the deck of cards in the middle of their little circle and making them fly everywhere. “I have taken dominion over ALL YOUR CARDS. All of you must grovel for a taste of my wealth!”
“Actually, the point of the game is to get rid of all your cards,” Luz reminds him gently. “That way, when you get down to one card, you shout Uno! And you win! If no one else makes you draw anymore, that is.”
King deflates a little, apparently put off by the idea of less is more. “Oh.” Luz smiles and pats him on the head, and he brightens up. “Okay, let’s play, because I wanna make all of you draw as many cards as possible! You'll drown in your cards! Choke on them, even!”
As they start gathering up the cards that King threw everywhere, Gus lets out a little gasp. “You guys—is Hunter asleep?”
That immediately draws Eda’s attention away from the magazine. Her eyes flicker to the blond witch, laying on his stomach just on the edge of their group. He was still having a hard time socializing, especially with Amity, but Luz was determined to include him in all friendship activities. She said wanted to teach him how to be a kid, and hell, if anyone could knock some seriousness out of that boy it would be Luz.
Hunter is indeed asleep—his face is mushed into the forearms pillowed under his head, and his red palisman has weaseled its way to nestle in between the crook of his elbow. His breath comes out in soft little sighs, and Eda feels something in her melt.
“Awwww, he looks so peaceful,” Luz croons, mushing her palms against her cheeks. Amity’s already scooched past her, snapping photos on her scroll. Eda can’t blame her. She knows a good blackmail opportunity when she sees one.
Eda’s off the couch and catches King mid-pounce. “Whoa there, none of that buddy.”
“But Edaaaa,” the demon whines, his little arms and legs flailing in mid-air. “I have to conquer him when he least expects it!”
“Ehhh, let the kid sleep. Save your conquests for when he’s awake and can put up a fight.” Eda sets him down in his place in the circle, and the kids all glance at each other before turning back to the cards.
She notices that they’re more mindful to keep their tones softer, probably to not disturb the sleeping boy. And when Hunter wakes himself up about half an hour later, they don’t mention it, seamlessly integrating him back into their game.
2.
The second time it happens, Raine is walking Eda home. It’s early in the evening, and the pair just got done with a fabulous date—a picnic with apple blood and sweet (and stolen) baked goods? Titan, take Eda now, she’s found her perfect match.
She’s still riding that high, not noticing Raine stopping until they tug on their clasped hands. “Hey, who’s that? Is he okay?”
Eda follows where they’re pointing their finger. It’s Hunter, slumped against the base of an oak tree, fast asleep. His chin is tipped forward and a book open on his chest, and even more strangely, there’s a small pile of leaves on his lap.
“Oh, that’s just my—” Eda stops herself, the word catching in her throat. Hunter was a child in her care, yes, but he wasn’t quite her kid. Not like Luz or King. The blond witch was still too jumpy, baring his teeth and snarling at anything that tried to get close to him.
He calls her Miss Clawthorne, for Titan’s sake.
“—Hunter,” Eda finishes lamely.
Raine raises an eyebrow. “Your Hunter?”
“He’s uhhh, one of Luz’s friends who just so happens to be living with us. Not a big thing.”
Raine shoots her a deadpan look but strides forward anyway, kneeling next to the sleeping blond. They keep their voice to a low murmur, “Should we wake him? That can’t be comfortable for his neck. He’ll probably be sore later.”
“Eh, let him rest. This is more sleep than he usually gets.” Eda steps closer, kneeling down on his other side. It’s the side that has his scar, the slightly raised red tissue standing out even more so than usual now that he wasn’t constantly moving. She’s almost asked him how he got it, but he’s clearly sensitive about the subject. She’s seen the similar marks on his arms, and something tells her there are a whole lot more scars that he’s hiding.
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out who gave them to him.
Still, it’s hard to ignore just how young he looks. When he’s stripped of all of his snappy comebacks, quick defenses, and that guarded demeanor Belos forced onto him, he’s reduced to exactly what he should be:
A kid.
“Oh!” Raine startles in surprise. Eda looks up to see the cardinal palisman fluttering down from above them, carrying a few leaves in its beak. It hops down onto Hunter’s lap and deposits the leaves in the little growing pile on his leg.
A smile worms its way onto Eda’s face. She runs a finger across the little bird’s head, “Trying to keep him warm, huh?” The bird lets out a trilling note of confirmation. She lets the bird be, turning back to Raine, “I think Rascal’s got this covered. If he hasn’t come in before nightfall I’ll come out and get ‘em.”
The bard casts one last glance down at the sleeping boy before they stand. “Y’know, he kind of reminds me of someone.”
“Oh yeah?” Eda weaves her arm through Raine’s as the pair reassumes their walk.
“Yeah,” Raine hums. “He kind of has the same build as someone I met when I was held hostage in the Emperor’s palace. The Golden Guard. Did you hear that he ran away from the palace? There've been rumors that the Emperor himself is tearing apart the Right Arm looking for him.”
“Uh, about that...”
Raine stops, turning to look at her square in the face. Eda gives them a sheepish, toothy grin.
“Oh my god,” Raine says. “You adopted the Golden Guard?”
“Hey now, adopted is a very strong word—”
The bard cuts her off with a delighted laugh. “How am I not surprised?” Eda feels heat rise to her face, but can’t help but return Raine’s infectious smile. “Only you, Eda. Only you.”
3.
The third time it happens, Eda’s passing through the upstairs hallway, intent on curling up into her nest for an afternoon nap of her own. She hears a shuffling noise as she passes by the glorified storage closet that they gave Hunter as a room, and can’t resist a peek inside.
What she finds is definitely…not what she was expecting. Hunter is laying flat on his back on the floor, his feet elevated on the little cot they’d given him. Yeesh, that couldn’t be comfortable. Soft snores woosh past his open lips, his face turned toward a crystal ball that’s playing some cartoon he must have been watching before he fell asleep.
His body is nearly covered in stuffed animals.
“King,” Eda hisses. The horned perpetrator is in the middle of dumping his entire army onto the blond witch’s chest, pinning down his arms with plushies. “What did I tell you about burying people alive?”
The demon pauses from where he’s been slowly arranging his army over Hunter’s sleeping form. “He’s got plenty of room to breathe! I didn’t cover his face,” King protests. “Can’t subjugate someone who’s dead.”
“No subjugating—” your brother, she almost says, “—Hunter.”
King squints at her, but then grumbles and starts slowly taking the stuffed animals off the boy’s body. Crisis averted, Eda slips back out into the hall, mind swirling. That was the second time she’d almost referred to Hunter as hers in passing. The feeling is too raw to speak out loud yet, but there’s a growing warmth in her as she watches Hunter acclimate to his surroundings in the Owl House. With every day that goes by, he’s more comfortable around her, around Luz and King and Hooty, and he’s starting to come out of his shell. He’s growing softer, less quick to snarl, becoming more Hunter and less Golden Guard.
Unconsciously, Eda’s started viewing him as part of their little family. Two weeks ago, that thought would have made her uncomfortable. Now, she welcomes it with open arms.
Ugh, she’s getting so soft.
4.
The fourth time it happens is when Eda’s flying home from visiting Lilith. She’s only been gone for the day, and is hoping that leaving Luz in charge hasn’t led to any freak fires, the resurrection of the dead, or other various natural disasters. Unfortunately, even her most responsible kid is pretty reckless, so Eda’s expectations are set pretty low.
It’s probably sometime around 2 a.m. when she makes it home sweet home. She swoops in close, intent on landing on the front door but stilling mid-air when she sees something on the roof of the tower. Even from up here, it’s not hard to distinguish the form of a looming body.
Eda’s heart leaps into her throat and she takes Owlbert down into a dive. Her body is tense when she lands, her staff already aimed toward the person lurking by the edge of the roof. “Alright listen bucko, you better step back or—wait.” She sees what looks like a lump of feathers sitting on top of the person’s head, and Eda squints in the darkness. She quickly pulls out a light glyph, sending the tiny ball of sun forward.
“Hunter?!” Eda’s tense posture relaxes. The kid doesn’t answer, and it takes her a beat to figure out why. He’s dead asleep, slumped precariously over the telescope they use for stargazing. Eda has no idea how he’s even standing at all. Kid probably had a ton of practice of falling asleep on his feet during long, boring meetings with the Emperor.
“Wakey, wakey.” She places her hand on his shoulder, gently, but he wakes up with a full-body jerk, startling the palisman on top of his head. The cardinal chirps once in irritation, fluttering to rest on Eda’s shoulder instead.
Hunter’s eyes are wild for a moment until he seems to register where he is and who he’s with. He relaxes then, letting out a yawn so huge it would put any lion to shame. “…Eda?”
“The one and only,” Eda says, ignoring how her heart squeezes at the kid finally calling her by her name. “Wanna tell me why you’re up here in the middle of the night?”
“Waitin’ for you,” he mumbles, voice rough with sleep. His eyelids drop and he sways dangerously on his feet. “Wanted to… t’make sure y’got home safe.”
The warmth in her chest expands and eclipses her entire body in that fuzzy feeling she gets whenever one of her kids does something particularly adorable. Thank Titan it’s dark and Hunter is too out of it to notice the smile that spreads across her face. If he was fully awake, Eda gets the feeling that A) he probably never would have admitted that he was worried about her, and B) would have snapped at her for smiling at him like that. “Well, I’m home now, so let’s get you to bed before you topple over.”
Eda wraps her arm around his waist and nudges him along, practically carrying him back downstairs, their palismen following close behind. She doesn’t mind. Someone had to make sure he didn’t fall off the roof.
“Night, kid,” she says, tucking him under the blankets on his cot. Hunter doesn’t respond, already having slipped back into unconsciousness. And if she brushes his bangs tenderly out of his face, no one ever has to be the wiser.
5.
The fifth time it happens, Eda’s gotten used to it. It's not that Hunter doesn’t sleep, she’s come to realize. He just falls asleep in weird places. Why, she has no idea, but honestly, the kid looked so tired all the time, she wasn’t going to question it. They had bigger things to worry about.
The Day of Unity is just around the corner, and Belos has become more irritating than ever.
Eda hadn’t even thought that was possible for him, but apparently, it was. The scouts around Bonesborough have tripled, their captains leading more and more raids, butting into shops to check everyone’s papers, and invading random districts.
Oddly, Belos’s priorities seem to have shifted. He’s still sending out grunts to round up any wild witches, but the guards have been playing a weird sort of hide-and-seek, going beyond just patrolling the marketplaces to actually tearing into people’s homes. From what she’s heard, the guards never take anything, just searching the place top-to-bottom before leaving empty-handed and moving on to the next house.
Belos was looking for something.
And unfortunately, Eda’s got a pretty good idea of what he’s after.
Said thing just so happens to be slumped across from her at the kitchen table, dead to the world. It’s late into the night, and most of the kids have already gone to sleep. Too on edge to lie down, Eda’s been keeping herself busy by concocting more potions while the late-night news plays on her crystal ball in the background.
Hunter, striving to be helpful, volunteered to stay up and help.
It wasn’t long before the kid slowly started to nod off, face supported by his palm as his eyelids started to droop. He’d been in the middle of mixing two ingredients—highly flammable ingredients, mind you—and Eda plucked the vials out of his lax grip just in time. Honestly, it was a miracle the kid never killed himself in the Emperor’s Coven with how randomly he falls asleep.
He probably never got the chance to sleep at all, a voice reminds her. She remembers how dead-exhausted Lily was during her first few days at the Owl House. It was probably safe to assume that the Emperor had a habit of running the head of his Coven into the ground.
Hunter has been picking up on Belos’s tightening grip, too. He’s been getting quieter, more reserved. He’s come to the same conclusion that Eda has: the Emperor was tearing apart the whole of the Isles to get him back.
Why, though, is anyone’s guess. Hunter has long since explained that his uncle always said that the Titan had big plans for him, and it probably has something to do with the Day of Unity, but beyond that, the Emperor had always kept him in the dark. Luz has a crazy theory involving clones and blood magic, but that sounds like it’s a plot point straight out of one of her Azura books. King thinks Belos wants his artificial staff back, and Hooty predicts the Emperor is just sad because all his Coven leaders are leaving him to join Hooty’s superior best friends club.
Whatever the reason, Eda’s made it pretty clear that she’s not gonna bend to Belos’s intimidation tactics and turn him over. That smarmy gold jerk could set the whole Isles on fire and Eda still wouldn’t hand him over. Hunter’s part of the Bad Girl’s Coven now, and Belos can just suck it. And she’s not afraid to say that to his stupid face, either.
So when the cauldron at the end of the table that holds the scrying potion suddenly begins bubbling on its own, Eda may very well get her chance.
She’s up on her feet in an instant, dashing to the other end of the table just as the steam rising off the potion begins to warp into a familiar figure.
“Edalyn,” Belos greets, his voice sharp like a dagger. “I do hope I’m not interrupting your evening, but I needed a word with you.”
Ugh, scrying potions weren’t supposed to work both ways! Belos was too damn powerful. He could probably peer into their lives as much as they could peer into his.
“Sorry, but now’s a bad time,” Eda shoots back. “Why don’t you hang up and call back literally never?”
“It’s come to my attention that you have something of mine,” the masked man continues smoothly as if she hadn’t spoken. “I’d ever so appreciate it if you gave it back.”
Eda’s lip curls back, feeling the itch of feathers poking out of her joints. She wants to shift into her harpy form and leap through the potion to claw out his eyes. “Sorry, Belos,” she says, dripping smug bravado, “We wild witches operate solely under the laws of finders keepers. Your kid? Mine now.”
Eda expects that the Emperor would very much like to vaporize her. “Make your threats wisely, Owl Lady. You have no idea what you’re up against. Everything will be easier for you and your little friends if you just hand the boy back over to me.”
“Fat chance.” Eda throws back her shoulders and shoots him a sharp grin. “Sounds to me like you’re threatening one of my kids, and we weirdos stick together. Going after one of us is basically asking for all of us to bring you down. Remember how well that went last time? How my human cracked your mask and publicly humiliated you during your big let’s-turn-Eda-to-stone ceremony?”
The Emperor looks as though he has some choice words to say, but Eda doesn’t care. Hunter is her kid now. She glowers at him through that mist, voice lowering in with deadly promise. “You’ll have to drag him back to your Coven over my dead body.”
“That can be arranged,” sneers Belos.
“Try me, antler boy.” Then Eda whacks the cauldron and sends it tipping over the edge of the table. The connection is immediately severed as the potion goes splattering over the hardwood, and the resounding CLANG of the bowl makes Hunter shoot violently out of sleep.
“Huh?! Whassit—Eda? What happened? Are you alright?”
“Fine, kid,” she says, swallowing down the rage that’s still bubbling hot in her throat. “’S alright, just got a little clumsy and knocked over a cauldron. Sorry for waking you.”
“Sorry for falling asleep,” Hunter responds. He grabs a towel and hurries to clean up the oozing purple goo.
Eda waves him off, “Eh, I don’t mind. You kids need your rest. Growing bodies and all that.”
Hunter still hesitates, looking at her for a beat too long as if double-checking to make sure she wasn’t really upset. Eda holds back a sigh, a twinge of pity flickering through her that he’d even have to look at her like that in the first place. All the damage from Belos couldn’t be wrapped up in a month, she supposed.
She snatches up the cauldron, still dripping with the ruined potion. Peachy. She’ll have to call Lilith to get her scrying potion recipe. Though maybe not having this in the house was a good idea. Eda doesn’t want to risk His Royal Highness dropping in on any more unexpected house calls.
“Eda?”
She looks up at Hunter. The kid chewing on his bottom lip, wringing the half-soiled towel between scarred hands.
“I just…I wanted to say thank you,” Hunter says shyly. “I know having me here hasn’t exactly been easy—not only because of the fugitive thing, but because I’m…” He flounders for a moment, and Eda can only pretend to know what’s going through his mind right now. “…me,” he finishes finally. “You’ve been so kind and patient with me, it’s so much more than I deserve, and no matter what happens next—”
“Hey, no.” Eda cuts him off with a swift and gentle beratement. She sets the cauldron on the table and crowds closer to him, curling one hand around his cheek. The kid automatically leans into the touch, and Eda can’t help but wonder how Belos could have ever hurt a child who was as sweet as this one.
“You may be one bratty little shit, but you’re my bratty little shit. And Mama says you deserve all the smothering that comes with being a child of the Owl Lady.”
Then, to prove her point, she swoops down and quickly places feather-light kisses on the tip of his nose, forehead, and his scar, until Hunter squawks and shoves her away. He’s practically glowing, flushed all the way to the tips of his ears.
“Gross,” he snaps, rubbing furiously at his face. “I’m never helping you with your potions ever again.”
“I’ll accept your terms. Now get upstairs, it’s way past your bedtime.”
“I don’t have a bedtime, I’m not a baby.” Hunter sticks out his tongue but obeys, slipping out of the kitchen and disappearing into the rest of the house. Eda shakes her head as she watches him go.
Kids. What could ya do with ‘em?

hiii so uhh i really don't think anyone will see this because...i literally have one follower but im kinda making this for myself because me and my cousin are going to the mall and a few stores around the city in a few days SPECIFICALLY to lift and I made a list of things that we both want PLUS some tips for these stores seeing as I DO lift from most of them a lot sooo..yeah
SPENCERS: a moderately easy store seeing as there are TONS of blind spots and LP isn't employed. To top it off, cameras are never monitored, however they are low-hanging and somewhat high quality. Usually only 2-5 employees but the store is almost always crowded so if you find a blind spot it's a free for all. They wont chase but might call mall security.
What we want:
h20 piercing cleaner x2
toy cleaner
jojoba oil
hemp oil
septum and nose jewelery (we will actually have to purchase this, seeing as if you steal the jewelery they hand to you they WILL know you stole no matter what. Plus the packaging is riddled with RFID tags)
HOT TOPIC: Not that many blind spots, but employees usually don't care and rarely count clothing articles, which may have a tag or two, so check for those. Cameras are never monitored and the stores usually have a large layout so just watch out for customers and employees, find a blind spot and throw a bunch of shit into your bag They don't chase! :D.
What we want:
distressed thigh highs
over the knee thigh highs with bow
black fishnet lace thigh highs
black and white stripe arm warmers
black fishnet fingerless gloves
black floral tights
CLAIRE'S: whew lawd. I really really want to be helpful on this one but Claire's is a laughably easy place to lift from. No cameras, usually only 1 or 2 employees and if one is giving a piercing it's a free-for-all. THEY HAVE MIRRORS SO AVOID THOSE. My favorite blind spot there is behind the register if there is no one there, and that's all I have to say there.
What I want: (she doesn't want anything from Claire's apparently🙄)
Headphones
A tiara
Nail polish
VICTORIA'S SECRET: first of all lol, i feel ZERO shame in lifting from them. Please note that they do have cameras, and their SAs are trained to look out for shoplifters, however most of them are just confused college girls lol. Panties are NOT tagged. What I like to do is take a medium sized empty makeup bag and put it in my purse, and once I arrive to VS i put the makeup bag in the tote, I also drop my phone into the tote. I go around the store, picking out panties that are my size and i drop them so they can fall directly into the makeup bag. I do this with as many as I can fit into the bag and I do this with small makeup items as well. Once I'm done, I reach into the bag as if I'm looking for my phone (which i dropped in earlier) and that's the moment when i zip up the zipper of the makeup bag and pull out my phone immediately after and pretend to check the time and say something like "Damn, I gotta go. I'm late." Or something like that. Put the makeup bag in your purse and play around on your phone as you exit the store. And that's really it :) I rarely lift bras from there anymore so I can't REALLY help you there.
What I want:
a bunch of panties and some lip gloss!
BARNE'S AND NOBLES: I've never lifted from this place but I know friends who have. I'll give you the tips they gave me. There are cameras, and they are being monitored, but there are PLENTY of blind spots seeing as it is a very large store. The kid's section has no cameras tho, so if you're like me and look younger than you are, this could be for your advantage. No one expects you to steal when you're vibing in the kid's section. Most books have RFID tags, and hardcover books sometime have books engraved in the cover, so watch out for those. Most manga, some magazines, and just overall 99% of the books are tagged. Get what you want, flip through them and look for RFID tags while pretending to "read". If an employee sees you sitting down "reading" they won't suspect you unless they actually see you ripping out the tags. The worst that could happen is that they could ask you to move out of the book aisle so other customers can come through, if that happens, simply find another blind spot. Slip them into your bags like they're yours as SOON as you know they're rid of RFID tags. They won't chase, but probably will try to get you back into the store and if that doesn't work they'll try to get a license plate number or give your description to the police, neither usually goes anywhere tbh.
What we want:
fire force volume 1
fire force volume 2
fire force volume 3
fire force volume 4
Akame Ga Kill
Soul eater
Black lagoon
Kakegurui vol. 1
The seven deadly sins volume 1
Spy x family 1
Spy x family 2
Spy x family 3
Black butler vol. 1
Black butler vol. 2
Black butler vol. 3
Black butler vol. 4
Wotakoi vol. 1
Wotakoi vol. 2
Gangsta
Dictionary of witchcraft
The anatomy of the occult
Charms, spells, and formula
Moon spells
Gothic beauty magazine number 19
Nocturnal witchcraft
Necronomicon
The good witch's daily spellbook
A big book of practical spells
Any book on astrology
Gothic grimoire
Shingeki no Kyonin
Ulta: The second store I've ever lifted from. This store is easy, but not laughably. I feel like this would be a starter for babylifters. This store has mild LP, so watch out for those and NEVER EVER EVER conceal in front of customers, you should never do this in general but especially NOT in an Ulta. Get to your blindspot and make sure to detag depending on what you plan on lifting. Those mfs at Ulta tag like crazy. Put everything in your bag and remember to NEVER get too greedy at this store. They have a STRICT, VERY VERY STRICT no chase policy.
What we want:
better than sex mascara
lipstick
eyeshadow
makeup brushes
black liquid and stick liner
pink liquid liner (if they have it)
bronzer
brown eyeliner
eyeliner pencil
maracuja oil
any colorful eyeshadow pallate lol
WALMART: My walmart is so easy it hurts. Maybe about 5 cameras throughout the whole store to my knowledge, so the whole thing is basically a blind spot. The makeup aisle is heavily monitored tho so whenever I'm over there I make an effort to never look up to those cameras. Grab whatever you want/need and AVOID EMPLOYEES!!! they're everywhere. As well as customers. They are the two most annoying problems I've ever had lifting from a Walmart. I've noticed that aisles where you get things such as building materials are the most empty with no cameras. People usually only go to walmart because the food is cheap, so there are a lot of families who are usually only at one side of the store. Its rare that people ever need materials like those so seek out aisles like that to use as a blind spot. Wal-Mart doesn't seem to tag that many things, but ALWAYS check no matter what store you're at. If you're lifting something on the expensive side, just check for that.
What I want:
kinder buenos x2
sugar free monster energy
paint
paintbrushes
black lace
blue eyeliner
blush
nail polish
socks
THE DOLLAR TREE:
Pretty easy store tbh. The cameras are fake, and if they aren't they're never being monitored. I don't know about ALL layouts but mine has SO many blindspots it's crazy. If you're just looking for a snack, some makeup, or maybe a meal ? (Yes, you can get a whole meal if you lift enough stuff) then the dollar tree would be your place of interest. There are almost no employees walking around the store. There are usually only 2, and they switch between working at the registers and cleaning out the front of the store or whatever. Honestly this store is so easy just stuff shit in your bag lol. Even if you get caught they won't chase or call the police. Their stock is WAYY too cheap for that. I go there to steal candy or makeup brushes which is usually not worth paying for anyways so this is a beginner store. Knock yourself out ;)
What I want:
literally anything i see there that i want😭
welllll if you actually made it this far, thank you so much! I hope this helped someone and I hope one day I can make a master list of stores myself instead of just picking selective ones but this was all i was able to do :( i really REALLY hope this helped someone lmao just remember
✨ if its chain, its free reign✨

-Where Was She?- George Weasley x Female Reader
☼-☪-☼
Summary:  Taking a trip through Diagon Alley to help your nephew pick out robes and books for her first day at Hogwarts should of been uneventful, and it was until your niece was very excited to look inside a colorful shop, with a ginger with a top hat on top.
Kody: Ha, it rhymes. I am just hilarious. Also i’m giving them names, cause i can and if i don’t i’ll get confused lmao. Also changing some plot for this story lol.
House: Ex- Gryffindor / Half blood
Possible Triggers / Warnings: cursing, George being a simp, Fred being utterly confused half the time, that good fluff
    ☼-☪-☼
you were currently stirring a bowl of cupcake batter when the house phone rang. In a quick haste, you drop the whisk in the sink and ran over to the living room and towards the house phone. You pick it up and press and the call button before holding it up to your ear.
“L/n residence. Who am i speaking to?” you ask in a polite manner as you wiped your hand on the pink apron you wore. “Hey Y/n, it’s me Kai. So i just got a last minute meeting and i won’t be able to take Aedyn to diagon alley to get his books, robes and such. I have money to give you and such”
you could hear the irritation in his voice, he hated missing important memory making moments with his son, but he really needed the money considering his wife dipped when Aedyn was born. You smile lightly, having not been back to Diagon Alley in year since you graduated. You missed it.
“no problem, i’ll make sure to take a ton of pictures for you. Don’t worry about it, i get to see some of my old classmates and i’m fine with paying- “ “-no Y/n, i’m paying” Kai tried to interject, but you made screeching noise with your mouth. “Sorry, can’t hear you. Your cutting out. Love you!” you quickly hung up.
       ☼-☪-☼
the day had arrived and you wore a black turtleneck with a burnt orange button up as well as black pants. You had just arrived to Diagon Alley with Aedyn and he seemed a bit upset. “hey dude, you alright?” you asked, nudging his shoulder with your arm. He shrugged, looking ahead.
“i just thought that dad would take me shopping, i know he isn’t a wizard or anything. It’s just-” you stop walking and crouch down to height “Yeah i get it, i loved going to Diagon Alley with my parents, but let’s make the most out of this yeah? Your witchy aunt has got your back!”
your enthusiasm seemed to cheer him up as the corners of his mouth turned up “Okay, the first thing on the list is robes” he says, pulling a sheet of folded up paper from his back pocket. You smile and stand back up “Robes it is, onwards my dear nephew”
    ☼-☪-☼
after buying about three sets of robes as well as uniform shirts and pants, you both went to get textbooks, which was super boring. Once you had finished stacking all the textbooks, you held them all by a string. Aedyn didn’t seem to want a animal, you didn’t either when you attended Hogwarts.
as you walked with Aedyn, you felt a tug on your sleeve “Oh, can we go in there!” he says, you look to where he was pointing and saw a shop decorated in orange and hints of purple. Looking up, you saw a statue picking up it’s top hat. Oh. OH. “the weasleys wizard wheezes?” you ask, looking down at him.
he met your gaze and tilts his head “Have you been there before?” he questions and you nod your head once “Yeah. Once. It was when it first opened though, so it may have changed” you spoke, shrugging it off. You grab his head and walk into the colorful shop.
    how much has changed?
as you step in, your almost overwhelmed by the variety of things in the shop. It really didn’t change much. There were kids running around and parents who seemed displeased at there kids dashing through the place. A feeling of nostalgia ran through you.
    “Aedyn!”
    “Luke!”
your nephew turns up to look at you “Can me and luke check out the shop together?” he asked eagerly, making you chuckle. You nod once and both of the boys run off. You sigh contently and place the textbooks down near the umbrella holder. Stuffing your hands in your pocket, you began to casually stroll around.
the Weasley’s wizard wheezes. What a cool place. “Welcome miss. First time?” you turn to face one of the ginger haired twins in the flesh, wearing a orange sweater and beige pants. George Weasley. you give him a polite smile, collecting yourself quickly.
“Thank you. Um- no not my first time. I came here with Hermione Granger when you guys first opened.” you explain, tapping your foot on the ground. He raises a brow. You seemed to have spiked his interest “You know Hermione? How come i’ve never seen you before?”
you shrug your shoulders, making a clueless face. “I’ve been told i blend into the background, so that could be why” you say. He steps closer to you, analyzing your face “How could i have missed you? Were you on any teams?” guess you were playing twenty questions now.
you stifle a laugh as you began to walk around once more, the twin sticking to your side “No, i never liked attention. I did watch all the quidditch tournaments- Oh! I started the weakly quidditch magazine for the school” you say, thinking he remember seeing it somewhere or maybe he had read it before?
you watch his honey colored eyes light up “Oh! yeah i read that. Wait- if i remember correctly you wrote one just about me” his smile turned into a grin. Oh how embarrassing. You chuckle bashfully as you use your hand to cover your mouth for a second “Yes. I did. You were a quidditch heartthrob. It sold well”
you hear him gasp loudly and watch as he places a hand over his chest, where his heart was “You used my face to sell magazines?” he said. Wait a minute. “How do you know i put your face in the article?” you question, your own grin forming. A bashful smile makes a way onto his face.
“I bought one for myself” he spoke and you burst into a fit of laughter at his confession “Oh wow, Mr. Weasley” you say, joking with the formality. You both were now making your way back to the entrance, where you two had started your journey in the first place.
    “Just call me George.”
you two then talked for what felt like hours, but in reality it was twenty minutes. You both had a lot of common interest and soon enough. The Weasley started to flirt with you. It was playful and cute and you found it adorable coming from him. As he reached to push a strand of hair from your face and loud shout was heard.
“Were late! We are so late!” Aedyn came running from the top story of the shop “Dad said to be home an hour ago!” and with that he ran out the shop. You E/c eyes widen. Oh shit. You quickly grab up the textbooks, a confused George staring at you. “Wait, your leaving?”
“Yes” you force out as you quickly rushed out the shop, George following. He stops in front and watches as you run away “When can i see you again?!- What’s your name?!” he shouts, catching the attention of a few wizards and witches passing by.
you give him a quick smile before you turn the corner, leaving his sight completely. What’s the fun in that right?
    ☼-☪-☼
“Hey George. I’m back!” Fred Weasley called out from the shared home. He raised a brow when there was no answer and walked down the hallway, he turns the handle of Georges room and pushes the door open. He sees boxes scattered everywhere.
George was sitting on the floor, looking through stacks of old school papers “What in the bloody hell is going on?” Fred asked, looking a his brother strangely. George snaps his head towards his brother and stands up quickly. “Do you remember the weakly quidditch magazine?”
    “Yes?”
“Do you know where i kept the one written about me?”
    “Yes”
    “Where is it?”
    “...I’ll be right back”
Fred left the room and returned a couple minutes later with an tattered magazine “Your article is on page 5-” George ripped the magazine from his brothers hand and began to turn the pages rapidly “Okay then” Fred walks over to sit on George’s bed.
“Found it! When George Weasley isn’t pulling pranks. He is expertly playing the quidditch field, just like yesterday's game. Taking out both Ravenclaw beaters at the same time. Charming, good looking, funny, and skilled. No wonder the girl’s of Hogwarts are fawning over Gryffindors beater. -Y/n L/n”
George smiled brightly “Y/n L/n, that’s her name..She called me good looking. Where was she when i was at Hogwarts?” he gushed, making Fred roll his eyes “Your talking about Y/n? How is she doing, heard her nephew is starting Hogwarts soon. I was supposed to meet her today, but i got caught up”
George’s head snapped like an owl towards his brother “You know her? Did you sleep with her Freddy? You horny bastard. You just had to sleep with half of the girls at Hogwarts didn’t you? Couldn’t leave anyone for me? First Lavender brown then Hermione Granger, now Y/n. What the hell man?”
Fred waited for his brother to stop talking with a irritated expression “First of all. I didn’t sleep with her. Second of all, we kept in touch because i thanked her for writing an article about me, like she did for you. Also! You didn’t notice her, because your fucking stupid. I’m making dinner” he announced.
he stood from the bed and walked out the room. George pouted “Can we have mac and cheese?!”
    “No!........Okay fine!”
        ☼-☪-☼
fast forward to about two weeks and Aedyns birthday was coming up. He had taken a liking to quidditch and you wanted to get him a new broom. It was a bit chilly outside so you decided on black high waisted skin tight jeans, a light grey long sleeve t-shirt, and a heather grey and a charcoal colored button up.
“Quality Quidditch Supplies” you read out loud, this was definitely the place where she saw kids get brooms.  You step in and began to look around at the broom’s, wondering which was a good fit for your nephew. You were looking at the Nimbus collection when a ginger haired boy jumps out from behind it.
you jump back a bit “George?! What the hell. You almost gave me a heart attack!” you shout. He smiles nervously “So after our last encounter, i found that article you wrote about me” he spoke. You rolled your eyes and began to look at the broom’s once again “Okay” you said plainly.
“You said i was good looking and charming. Y/n L/n” he says, a twinkle of pride in his eye. “Your also friends with my brother and didn’t tell me” he said, that pride turning into slight jealousy.”You didn’t ask” you said simply said, his eye twitched in irritation.
“Anyway, i was wondering if you could go out with me- like on date. Next saturday?” he says, you saw the hopeful look in his eyes as you looked from the broom to him. Aw. “No” you said, waiting to see his reaction. He blinks mindlessly for a couple of seconds “i’m sorry, i shouldn’t have asked-”
“-I have to watch a quidditch match. It’s my job for the witch weekly. i report for the local matches. I would love to go some other time” you say, giving him a genuine smile. He rubs the back of his neck “That’s the only time i’m free this mouth! Oh how ‘bout i go with you?” he asked.
you shrugged “I’m okay with that. I’ll be distracted half the time though” you explain. He smiles happily “Wicked. Plus, i’d like to see you all focused. I bet it’s cute” he said, leaning in close, his hand placed on the shelf above your head. There goes the flirting again.
you pretend to not have heard him and reach into your pocket for a piece of paper and pen. He tilts his head curiously  and tries to read what you were writing, but you shielded him away with your hand. “What’re?-” he was cut off when you walked passed him and grabbed a Nimbus infinity.
you walk up to the counter and pay for the broom. It was quite costly, but you didn’t mind. George followed like a lost puppy, until you both made it outside. You turn around and hand him the paper. George grabs the note and reads an address? “What is this?” he asked. Boys are so dumb.
“Write me sometime, Weasley. I’ll see you on saturday” with those parting words, you turn on your heels and began to walk away with a sway of your hips. George sighed deeply as a warm feeling invaded in every being “Merlin. Fred was right. I’m whipped.”
    ☼-☪-☼
the week spent apart was quite wholesome. George wrote you kind letters, sometimes flirty ones and send you small treats within them. Once he sent a pressed flower, a marigold. You didn’t think he have such a soft side to him. Each day a new letter came and you grew to like the Weasley boy more and more.
the day had finally arrived when you would be attending the quidditch match. You wore a black turtleneck and heather grey pants, paired with regular sneakers. You were waiting at the entrance for the weasley boy, looking up t the sky. It looked like it was about to storm. Hopefully it would clear up soon.
“Hey!” a bright cheery voice shouted. You look back down to see George coming up to you. His shoulder length hair was tied back in a ponytail, with loose strands framing his face. He wore a burnt orange sweater with white and brown plaid pants. Style.
you smile lightly and nod your head towards him “Hello” you spoke and watch as his honey colored eyes gazed at your outfit “Your looking ravishing, per usual” his comment made you snort. You shake your head and wave your hand “C’mon. I have front row seats” you say, making his eyes go wide.
    “Woah! Really!?”
    ☼-☪-☼
you both were seated in the bleachers with an amazing view of the game. You took out a notepad along with a pen, getting ready to take notes. George watched you as the game started. You bit your bottom lip when you were ‘in the zone’ as you would call it. George would call it cute.
the match was highly eventful and George had a wonderful time watching, especially the small breaks when you would talk to him. He would occasionally feed you popcorn as your wrote. Gotta make sure you were fed. You secretly liked it.
the match came to an end when one of the teams caught the snitch and the crowd roared in applause and boos. George stood up, cheering while you politely stood alongside him, clapping your hands. The cheers began to die down as heavy rain poured out of nowhere.
people began to scramble out of the bleachers like ants so they could apparate out of there. You look at George who’s hair was damp, strands of ginger hair sticking to the side of his face. he was just staring at you “What?” you call out over the loud sounds of the rain.
“I had a great time. I wish i had met you in Hogwarts so i could of had a cool girlfriend writing articles about me. Is it okay if i make up for lost time?” he said, your heart melting a his words. How smooth. A smile grew on your face “i’d love that” you said and that was all George needed.
he wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you in for a deep kiss. Rain came down on both of you and your notes were most likely destroyed, but you were too in the moment to care. You two eventually left the bleachers and apparated to your place where you gave him a change of clothes and hot tea.
the day ended with you two cuddled up on your couch, next to the fireplace and it couldn’t be more perfect.
   ☼-☪-☼
Kody: the sheer amount of writers block this shit gave me was insane. Anyways, peace.

Don't Talk to Strangers, Kids
A/N: So this is a one-shot I wrote as a sort of companion piece to this theory. Think of this as a snapshot of how it could come about. Happy Gladurday!
It was a beautiful day in Bonesborough. Gus was nearly skipping with glee as he headed home through the market. One of the salvage stalls had just gotten in a new human magazine, and it now belonged to him! He pulled it out of his bag to look at the cover again. Top Ten Things to Do This Summer Vacation! A wide grin spread across his face. He couldn't wait to get home and read it.
"Uh, excuse me?"
Gus looked up to see a bedraggled witch standing in front of him. They had red eyes and blond hair, and were wearing academic robes. Judging from the travel bag slung over their shoulder and the disheveled state of their hair and robes, they'd been on the road for some time.
"I seem to be a bit lost," they continued, waving a map in a sort of helpless way. "I rented out a cabin from Ms. Belladonna before I came here, but now I can't find it. Could you give me directions?"
Gus nodded. "Sure! Can I see your map real quick?"
The stranger handed it over. The map was utterly unfamiliar to Gus. Wherever it was for, it certainly wasn't Bonesborough.
"Well there's your problem. You've got the wrong map."
The stranger looked crestfallen. Gus hesitated a moment, then made a decision, shoving the magazine back in his bag. He could always read it later.
"I can still take you though. Just follow me!"
"Oh, thank you!" The stranger took back their map, carefully folding it up and putting in in their pocket.
They set out, Gus leading the way. As they walked, the stranger spoke up. "By the way, is that a human magazine you had in your bag?"
"Yep! Just got it! Why, do you like human stuff too?"
"Like it? Kid, I went to the academy to study it!"
Gus' eyes widened. He hadn't realized that was something you could do. "Really? That's so cool! What are you learning about?"
"All sorts of things. There have been a ton of human artefacts that have turned up over the years, and I'm trying to piece together what we've learned from them. Tell me, what sort of artefacts do you have? Or is this your first one?"
Gus grinned. This was his area of expertise. He began to run through his collection; explaining what objects there were, how he'd gotten them, and theories on humans he'd gotten from them.
As he finished, the two arrived at the cabin.
"Here, I've got some artefacts of my own I brought with me. If you want to come in, I can show you them and talk about what I'm researching."
Gus narrowed his eyes. "I don't know. I just met you, I'm not sure if I should be going into your house alone."
"Oh, yes, of course!" The student laughed awkwardly. "Right, sorry. Let me bring out a couple chairs instead."
They went inside, and came out after a short wait with seating, as promised. They pulled out a few scrolls from their bag and spread them out on a table they'd also brought. On the scrolls were various records and drawings of humans and their artefacts, all from different times in history.
"You see, even though humans have long been extinct from the isles, human artifacts keep popping up all over the place, and they're most definitely new! My theory is that humans are actually from somewhere other than the isles, and their stuff is coming over from there. In fact, I've heard rumors that a living human has popped up in this town, and that's why I came here!"
"A living human? You mean Luz?"
The student gasped. "You know them? Can you take me to them?"
"Of course!" Gus replied. "I mean, I'll have to ask her first, but I'm sure she'll say yes!"
"Amazing!" They leapt to their feet and enthusiastically shook Gus' hand. "Thank you so much! This will be so incredible for my research to meet a real live human!"
"I'll try to bring her back sometime tomorrow," Gus said, turning to leave.
"Thank you again! Oh, and feel free to come by and talk anytime!"
"I will!" Gus waved over his shoulder.
It was a beautiful day in bonesborough, and Gus was more full of energy than ever. First the new magazine, now a new friend! He couldn't wait to introduce Luz to them.
The student watched Gus go, a smile on their face. They dragged the table and chairs inside, then settled down on a couch with a sigh. Before they could get to their nap though, a chime sounded from their pocket. They sat up with a groan, pulling out a small hand mirror. The surface rippled, and Kikimora appeared on it.
"Please report on your mission status," she said in a curt tone.
When the student responded, the tired enthusiasm from before was gone from their voice, replaced with firm control. "Very good. I've got an in, and with any luck I should meet the girl tomorrow."
"Excellent. Belos will be most pleased."
Kikimora's image flickered and disappeared from the mirror. The student tossed it off to the side and lay back down with a contented sigh. In all their years of infiltration, this had to be the easiest mission yet. Sure, they'd had to do a bit of research, but it sure beat the front lines. Maybe they would stretch it out a bit, sneak a few vacation days. After all, what chance did a bunch of kids stand against them?

Hello! Love your blog and i wanna say
Your analysis and your posts in general are always so well researched historically. How do you do that and how can I do it too?
So I wanted to answer this with care and time and thoughtfully. I hope this answer will be good not just for you but will be worth reblogging for anyone who wants to think about how you develop good researching skills more generally. Because ultimately getting good at making sense of the world isn’t just about writing or just about fic or just about academia; it’s about being a good citizen of the world.  The short answer to this question, up front: I’ve gotten good at research because it’s my actual job! I’m a professor and not even a new one really anymore; I have a book of research coming out later this year which still feels really weird to say. I happen to know how old you are because we’ve chatted so don’t forget to put into perspective that before you started formal schooling I had already written my first 50+ page research work. I’ve been at this seriously for almost two decades now. However, there are some fundamental ways that professional researchers go about thinking about everything, whether it’s something as inconsequential as fic or as monumental as the stuff going on in the U.S. right now that I think are a little different, and they’re replicable in useful ways. So here’s three things that matter.  Get curious. This actually is pretty easy for fanfic writers because we already have something we’re curious about--whatever fandom(s) we’re in. But curiosity isn’t just about the spark; it’s also about getting interested in making connections between different kinds of things. When you encounter any given piece of information, the first thing you should start thinking about is “how does this piece of information fit in with everything else I already know” which will lead you to “how does it contradict what I already know” and “what else do I need to know to understand how this fits?” This leads you down really interesting rabbit holes.  An example from fic/tumblr answers: A witch hunting Anglican really doesn’t map on to what I know of Anglicans/Episcopalians in present-day. So then I start to ask, “Okay. What was actually going on in the church in the 1640s?” I’m going to mesh it with some of my own knowledge: I know the protestant reformation happened a hundred years earlier, but I don’t know a ton about what happened after, except that the Puritans arrived in New England eh, about that time. So I go down the rabbit hole of finding out about the church in the 1640s. At some point there I’m going to run across some of the secular history: that the 1640s was the English Civil War. Okay, what was the Civil War about? Who won? How long were they in control? Questions beget questions and true, at some point, you have to decide when to stop if it’s for writing. But honestly, if you’re curious, you probably won’t stop thinking about it even if you’ve found out enough to answer the thing you want to answer. Because you’ll
Develop a lens. The thing you’re interested in becomes the way you start to see the world. Start relating everything to the thing you are trying to find out more about. Notice when you’re getting more information about that thing or when something would matter to that thing. I have an assignment I give my students where they have to write four short assignments relating stuff they see about language use to the things they’re learning in class. It’s partially to teach them about the concepts they’re learning, and partially to teach them about writing, but it’s mostly to accustom them to viewing the world through the lens I’m teaching them. It’s to help them get curious about why one barista’s tone sounds friendly and the other’s doesn’t even though the say the exact same thing. It’s mutually reinforcing: the lens begets curiosity and curiosity begets the development of the lens. If I encounter a fact, a piece of history, a moment in time, an old song, there’s a little piece of my brain after 11 years of writing Twific that is always asking “Where were the Cullens?” I have headcanons for days about how each of them, especially Carlisle, would’ve dealt with any individual moment in history. When I sing an old hymn in church I sometimes look down at the date in the hymnal to find out if it’s one Carlisle would’ve sung as a human. I’m always working through this lens, and that means I’m always adding to the knowledge.
Finally, source well. Especially for something as fanciful as fic, there’s not a lot of reason to dive deep into academic tomes (although I have; I am a fucking nerd. See above re: my work.) But dive deeper than the first page of google. Read the first Wikipedia page you come to, but then read a couple of the pages it links to! If the English Civil War has to do with Cromwell and it established the Protectorate, and those things are linked? Well, read those, too! And then you might need to cross-reference--okay, now I know what the Protectorate was, and I’ve decided from that original go-round that Carlisle’s dad was probably a Puritan, not really an Anglican, so...what was the relationship of Puritans to the Protectorate? I’m going to next throw that into google. And I’m looking for high-quality sources: magazines, university websites, things that end with .edu or .gov. I’m clicking on the “about” to find out who wrote the thing and how much of an expert they are. If they say something that no one else has said and I can’t find anything that tells me they’re an expert in this? I’m going to disregard that info and move on. This is applicable to way more than just fic--this is about figuring out that as much as I go YEAH YEAH YEAH at some hyper-partisan trash website that fits my political view, I need to step back and consider where it’s coming from, who the author is, and how much they know.  The more you’ve sourced, the easier this gets. My knowledge on Carlisle’s history goes deep, I fell in love with him and only him when I read the series. I have read about popular culture when he was growing up, I have read histories of the English Church, I have spent time thinking about and being fascinated by the history of the development of medical knowledge and medical schools. I didn’t go to the Eye or Big Ben when I happened to be in London; I went to the City Museum and wandered around the part of the city where I imagine he lived, looking for things which have survived since the 17th century and taking note of things which are new to think about what Carlisle would think about them (he is very un-fond of the Gherkin.) I literally spent a day and a half looking at London through Carlisle’s eyes. Because I’m curious; because I have a lens; and because I’m going to grab good sources whenever I have them.  That is a SUPER long post. But I hope it’s helpful. When it comes to writing, the richer your knowledge, the more likely you are to drop the right detail which places your reader and makes them buy into everything else in the world. I remember reading a fic which took place in my hometown and the author had one of the Cullens flying in their private jet. In my hometown, a mid-sized city in the midwest, there is a commercial international airport, but there is also a smaller airfield which handles much of the private air traffic. That author had that Cullen plane take off from the smaller airfield. I don’t know if she is also from my hometown, but she got that detail right, and it signaled that I could trust the rest of her storytelling.  So. It’s worth it: to be a good writer, to be a good researcher, and just to be good at understanding the world. I hope that helps and sorry for the word vomit. Professors write a lot, too.

I am exhausted. But today was great.
I slept pretty well last night. I woke up and felt kind of blah. But I got dressed and felt really cute. James helped me get my bags to the car. Hugs and kisses. And then I was off.
It was honestly a hard drive. I was way tired and had to focus really hard. People were driving really stupid. And It was just really tough. But I enjoyed my music. My podcasts. I had Mcdonalds. There wasn't like a ton of traffic but it was still a really hard drive out here.
I got here around 1030. It was really nice to see my parents. We sat on the porch and talked until Jess came at 1215. We talked about Jen and the funeral and wedding plans and money and the car. Dad looked good. Mom's hair has gotten so long!! It was a lot of fun though just being with them Felt good.
Jess got here and we all headed out. There was some traffic but mostly it was a nice ride out.
We had brunch first at this little cafe. It was sweet. They gave Jess a free piece of cake. We shared basically everything. It was a good time. But we had a bit of time to waste. That was okay but we had a nice walk over to the shop after we moved the car. We had to back track for my mask. And then we stopped to pet a very cute dog. BUt then we were there!
We had to wait a few minutes. Which was all good. We looked at the magazines. And chatted. I showed the stylist, Jen, some examples and she pulled a beautiful dress for me right away that was so close to what I wanted. The material was perfect. I felt so pretty. Nothing else there really lived up to it. I still had fun trying on things but nothing else was as good.
I liked one that had a high neck and interesting sleeves. But it wasn't right. It was a standing up dress for sure. It was still really fun to try things and play dress up. I even tried on a veil. Didnt think I would like it as much as I did. It was great. Made it all feel real.
We left there after getting some details and information. We walked dow the street to a stationary store and debriefed a little. I also bought a silly little fork. It's shaped like a hand. Did not need. Love very much.
We headed to Ritten House Square next. Took a while to find parking. They got coffees. And then we went to sit in the park. It was nice just looking through the pictures Jess took. And people watching. It was a beautiful day. Once the sun started hitting where we were sitting we headed to the Barnes and Knoble to use the bathroom and then next door the Anthropology.
We were still early so we just looked around. There were some wild things like $150 pairs of prepainted on work pants?? Like they looked cool but like. Thats a lot! It was fun looking regardless though.
I had a much better time at this appointment. The stylist was great. She had pulled a few dresses for me already. Jess picked a few more. And I just had a blast.
The first dress, again, was the favorite. It was very similar to the dress I liked at the first place. But had a different neckline. I really liked it. I felt so pretty. It may be the winner in the end. But well see!!
I had fun trying on more dresses though. Lots of styles and cuts. Some sleeves. Some shorter. I felt very special and pretty and it was great. My skin was a mess and I tried really hard not to focus on that. But I still felt beautiful and I am feeling really good about everything.
But then the drama happened. We headed outside and there were like. Huge groups of people all looking down the street at yelling. I was worried someone was in a fight. But nope. Just terrible evangelical Christians screaming about god hating people. Mom was about to fight them. Me and Jess were yelling that we were witches and sluts and whatever.
And then I saw mom was getting upset at something the guy said. ANd I was just like. Nope. And I took a deep breath and screamed as long and as loud as a could. Just let it all out. All my anger and hurt at the church. At losing my sister. At this last year. I just screamed. It echoed off the building. And then I realized it really shut him up. So whenever he started talking I started screaming. It went on for multiple minutes. There were at least 150 people at the park gathering now. People were cheering and laughing whenever I screamed. I ended up getting closer to try to get mom and the guy started calling me a fat whore, saying my dress was ugly. So I hitched up my dress and started screaming again. He says she cant keep this up. And I was like. Bet. And kept going. FInally I grabbed mom and told the crowd to keep it going. People were clapping. Someone asked for my picture?? Asked if I sung opera?? Told me I should look into it! It was hilarious. We were all shaking. IT was crazy. If someone doesn't find that video somewhere online I will be shocked.
We were all a little shaken though. We got to the car with minimal snipping. But we got there in one piece. We had a mostly quiet ride back home. I was excited though. I may have found a dress? So we don't have to make it?? It will need some tailorin. But like. Im super jazzed.
Jess dropped us off. And we filled dad in. I started getting nauseuus though so I had some watermelon and cracker sandwiches. And I am feeling better now. Mostly just very tired.
I am going to go shower now. And then try to just sleep. Tomorrow we are trying on some more dresses. I am not going to make any decisions yet. I am excited to try more dress's on. This has been really fun.
I hope you all have a great night. Take care of yourselves. Wash your hands!!

I like to see live action tangled with costumes based on the regency era. It makes sense as Rapunzel was written by the brothers grim in the 1810s I believe. So what would a regency era Rapunzel would’ve worn throughout the film?
That would be cool!
Minor quibble, and do pardon me for it- the Grimms didn’t exactly write their stories. They adapted earlier folktales and published some for the first time, often adding new morals for a middle-class, 19th-century Protestant audience. Rapunzel was first published in 1790 by Friedrich Schulz, in a version which apparently featured more explicit sexual references and a benevolent fairy protector instead of a cruel, imprisoning witch. I say “apparently” because I can’t find a free translation online. Argh.
Anyway! Nonetheless, an 1812 version of Rapunzel would be really neat. Let’s go with that.
I started out wanting to have Rapunzel in folk dress for most of the movie, but that quickly raised the problem of what German region Corona (calm down; it’s a normal word that means “crown” or “halo of light”) would correspond to. Also, it seems like the concept of “folk dress” was less strict and fossilized in the early 19th century than it later became. Which would make sense- it was just your everyday clothing. I can see it being a mishmash of traditional garments and whatever hints of current fashions came your way.
So instead, let’s have her be a bit out of fashion. Like Gothel occasionally lets her have a magazine or two and she copies the styles she sees (since she makes her own clothing), but they’re always out of date.
Tumblr media
(1805 fashion plate that gives me Rapunzel-ish vibes. I think it’s a pelisse- a coat -not a dress. But it is purple with puffed/long sleeves and the right silhouette for the era.)
I also have questions about how far Gothel’s attempts to infantilize her go. Does she even have stays if she’s not wearing her hair up as she should be? A lot of little girls in the early 1800s wore their hair all the way up and long dresses, though. That wasn’t fully codified as an Adulthood Thing yet. Let’s just assume she’s allowed a bra, so to speak, and move on.
Here are some extant day dresses c. 1805:

Tumblr media
(From the Philadelphia Museum of Art)
I imagine her main dress in a sturdy, serviceable purple cotton. Maybe with a bit of lace at the cuffs like in the movie. I can’t imagine Gothel spending a ton of money on fabric for her, but she would want to get quality. Shopping for your kidnapped ward too often would be such a bore. </s>
And then at the end, something still simple but much more luxurious and up-to-date as she takes her rightful place with her family.
Tumblr media
(Silver-embroidered cotton, 1810. “But Marzi, the last one had long sleeves!” Yes. But I’m increasingly called to question my previous stance of No Short Sleeves For Day as pertains to the Regency. There are some very line-blurring fashion plates, suffice to say.)
And this is the perfect chance to celebrate that little-known Regency hair trend: the “coiffure a la Titus.”
Tumblr media
(Portrait of Madame Fouler, countess of Relingue. 1810.)
There are some thoughts on the matter. Hope they’re sufficiently interesting!

How I Letterboxd #7: Cinemonster.
Hooptober’s head honcho opens up to Jack Moulton about his love for Texas-born horror director Tobe Hooper, the joys of running Letterboxd’s most beloved Hallowe’en community challenge, and the “terrifying, magical” experience of seeing Frankenstein at the age of four.
“You can’t spell October without Tobe.” —Cinemonster
Cinemonster, known to his family and friends as David Hood, is a restaurateur in Pittsburgh by day, and the head honcho of Hooptober by night. Now in its seventh year, the horror film challenge sees participants set their own 31-day viewing agenda of 31 films, curated according to a list of criteria set by its creator.
Tumblr media
‘The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ (1974), directed by Tobe Hooper.
With over 5,000 films logged on Letterboxd and a growing collection of posters, DVDs, Blu-rays, laser discs and film memorabilia, Cinemonster is a literal monster of cinema. He has created more than 500 lists, including a ton of year, director, actor, actress, franchise and memoriam lists.
What brought you to Letterboxd? I found Letterboxd while I was doing a Google search for a horror film that I had forgotten the name of. I ran into a list that Hollie Horror had made and wound up starting a profile and it went from there. That would have been a little over seven years ago.
Tumblr media
How freakin’ cool is last year’s Hallowe’en Easter egg with the dripping blood from our logo? [Pro members get this added to their pages by mentioning #horror in their bio.] I’m a fan.
Unfortunately I haven’t heard of a single one of your four profile favorites! What’s urging you to highlight these films? They are just lesser-seen and have something good or great about them. Eyeball is a great little underseen Umberto Lenzi film. Death Machines is an awkward, weird and wonderful film with kung fu and blood. Massacre at Central High is one of my favorite films and sadly lacking a disc release of any kind—anyone who has seen Heathers will recognize a couple of things if they watch it. Rituals is a criminally underseen stalked in the woods film from the ’70s.
In this this list description, you explain how the original Frankenstein (1931) hooked you into horror at four years old. Can you describe what you most remember about that life-changing experience? It was both magical and terrifying. The space, the creature, the little girl. I had trouble sleeping for weeks afterwards. No matter where I am in the world, if there is a screening of Frank, I’ll go. I watched most of the major universals by the time I was six or seven. I saw Alien and Jaws 2 with my folks and those stuck with me. Cable and a local UHF station showing Hammer films on Saturdays are what really allowed me to get sucked in.
Tumblr media
‘Frankenstein’ (1931), directed by James Whale.
The horror films of 1980 and 1981 were the most impactful and are the ones that mean the most to me to this day; Fade to Black, Night School, Motel Hell, The Fog, Alligator, Altered States, Terror Train, Death Ship, Scanners, An American Werewolf in London, The Howling, The Funhouse, Dead & Buried, Hell Night, Wolfen, Ghost Story, The Pit and Evilspeak. I saw all of them five to ten-plus times on cable as a kid. They’re still all high on my list. I am glad that Fade to Black is on Shudder. People need to watch it. More relevant now than then.
What exactly provoked you to start Hooptober seven years ago? I moved into an old spooky house and had a backlog of Blu-rays to watch and the 4K of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was about to come out. I’d done some interactive stuff on Letterboxd previously and had a decent amount of people involved. I was also at a point in my life where 31 films in 31 days is tough, as it is for a lot of us now. So I thought ‘Why don’t I do something that starts a little early, clears some of my list out, and has some parameters that don’t feel like I am handing out an assignment?’ I grew up in Texas, Tobe [Hooper] is close to my heart, and with all the Hooper I owned and the 4K coming out, I decided to christen it with his name. You can’t spell October without Tobe.
What’s the most members that have participated in a Hooptober? The number of people who participated was a little more than I expected, but that wasn’t what I was surprised by. I never thought of it as a recurring event until I started to hear from people the following summer about ‘the next one’. I just kinda chuckled after about a dozen people had asked and I said out loud to no one, “I guess I’m doing another one of these”. We are well over 700 this year, and still climbing.
Tumblr media
‘Fade to Black’ (1980), directed by Vernon Zimmerman.
Where do you get the ideas for the rules for films to consider watching? At this point, I look back at past years so that I don’t repeat myself. I look to the current year for inspiration. Is there a film from a sub-genre that was prominent? Was it a strong year for output from women, Mexico, Asia, Black filmmakers, something cultural, and so on? I may focus on effects creators, an actor or writer on a whim. I try to keep an eye out for blind spots I haven’t covered. Shudder, archive.org, the big streamers are all resources. Sadly, rarefilmm no longer exists.
In last year’s interview with Merry-Go-Round magazine, you mentioned plans to turn Hooptober into a film festival. How’s that going? In a post-pandemic world, how can we keep independent niche film festivals thriving? The world has not been agreeable, obviously. I’m not even sure how viable something like that will be next year. I’ve been taking a look at streaming options. Post-pandemic will require more creativity and outside-the-box thinking, and will probably continue to feed some drive-ins. Been a while since more than a handful of people wanted to put money into a drive-in, which is nice to see.
I’m going to do a tweet along to The Witch Who Came From the Sea in October, and I’ll give you an exclusive here: The George Romero Foundation and I are doing online Horror Trivia on October 11. I had been doing it live with them here in Pittsburgh until the pandemic.
Based on this year’s rules and conditions, if there was one essential you-can’t-miss film you could force all your participants to add to their challenge, which film would it be? Demons, Eve’s Bayou or The Witch Who Came From the Sea.
Tumblr media
‘The Witch Who Came from the Sea’ (1976), directed by Matt Cimber.
What have been your own greatest film discoveries through your Hooptober adventures? A Tale of Two Sisters, I Drink Your Blood, Blood Diner, and though it is a bit of a cheat to list this one, The Amusement Park. It’s cheating because it didn’t exist as something that I or anyone else could have watched, prior to when I saw it.
Do you have any acclaimed horror movies still lingering in your list of shame? Eyes Without a Face, Upgrade, Cure and Scream 4.
Have you ever completed one of your own Hooptober challenges yet? Errrrrrrrrr, one. I’m on track this year.
What about the participants over the years—any Letterboxd friends you’ve made who would you like to give a shout-out to? Aaron, Sarah Jane and Chris Duck are people that I talk to outside of Letterboxd. There have been a few others over the years. Slappy McGee has helped me with Hooptober the last two years. They are great. Javo and David Lawrence are pretty great, too.
Before Hooptober, many of your lists invited discussion with your followers. In what ways is Letterboxd the ideal forum to foster a community of film fans? Fans exercise their fandom in so many ways. The platform is so flexible that it allows you to utilize it in a small and personal way, in a promotional way, or to dive into the community pool and see who’s out there that shares something with you or can show you something. The more people that we are exposed to and listen to, we are all the better for.
Which of your review—from any genre—are you proudest of? The Invisible Man or The Hustler, probably. I have a capsule of Hud that I like.
So, you’re the horror guy. Nobody is denying that. You are Cinemonster, after all. But when I look at your top movies list and see that Singin’ in the Rain is your all-time number one, I’ll need you to explain yourself. I go back and forth between that and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. They are 1A and 1B in some order. Singin’ in the Rain is a perfect film and the studio system at its best. I will ignore your implied insult. ;)
Tumblr media
‘Fear of a Black Hat’ (1993), directed by Rusty Cundieff.
It’s true, even a horror aficionado needs some levity in their life. What other comedies pick you up from a dark place? Fear of a Black Hat always does the trick. Same with The Awful Truth, Murder by Death, Hollywood Shuffle, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Blazing Saddles, Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Black Dynamite.
Who has been keeping you company during this tough year? I have watched thirteen Spike Lee films so far this year. I’ve taken a break the last few months, but I’ll probably knock out five or six more. With the exception of 25th Hour, everything is a revisit. It’s been a joy to go back through everything. Crooklyn is much stronger than I remembered, and Bamboozled just gets better and more impactful as time passes. I have loved Spike since the day I saw School Daze. His films have always connected with things that are important to me and to those that have been around me. Lee is still grossly under-appreciated as a narrative film director and a documentarian.
We’re bowing down to your epic Blu-ray and DVD collection. Which ones are your most prized possessions? Make us jealous. I have an Anchor Bay DVD of Dawn of the Dead signed by the cast and George A. Romero, a steelbook of Battle Royale, the first Slumber Party Massacre set before they had to reprint the box, the original Star Wars trilogy on Blu. I’m sure there are things I’m not thinking of. I have a lot of out-of-print and laser-only stuff. I’ll never get rid of my Holy Grail, Ghostbusters and Akira Criterion laser discs.
Tumblr media
A selection of Cinemonster’s signed memorabilia.
I have a copy of Painting with Light signed by John Alton, John Waters and Steven Soderbergh I’ll send you a picture of. I used to collect movie posters, and I have the original Revenge of the Jedi one-sheet and the Drew Struzan Squirm poster. I do love those.
From your top directors list, let’s put one horror director on a pedestal. Who does the genre better than anyone else and why? George. They’re always topical, intelligent, thoughtful, personal and sometimes prescient. At their best they hold up both a mirror and a crystal ball. He was writing found-footage scripts in the early 70s, for god’s sake. Tobe is grossly under-appreciated. James Whale and Mario Bava could scare you in so many ways.
So, thinking beyond Ari Aster, Robert Eggers and Jordan Peele, which up-and-coming horror directors are you most excited about? Issa López, Gigi Saúl Guerrero, Benson and Moorhead, Shinichiro Ueda, Na Hong-jin, Julia Ducournau, Nia DaCosta, Jeremy Gardner and Leigh Whannell.
The 2010s were a great decade for horror. We have more money on-screen, moving away from the low-budget films of the 2000s. Which favorite horror film of the last decade inspired you the most? Get Out. What Jordan did for generations to come is unmatched in this century.
Tumblr media
Chucky from ‘Child’s Play’ (1988).
Which probably-too-long horror franchise gets too much flak and is top-to-bottom a great time? Child’s Play. Chucky has always been treated generally as second tier. [That franchise] has tried a lot of interesting and out-there things during its lifespan that had no business working, but did.
I know it’s been a slow year but you haven’t logged many 2020 movies yet! Which is your most anticipated horror movie of 2020 or 2021? Peninsula, for sure; I love Train to Busan. Then Candyman, The Dark and the Wicked, Grizzly II: Revenge, Bad Hair, #Alive, After Midnight, The Platform, Bulbbul, Underwater, Shirley and Swallow.
Interview by Jack Moulton. Follow Jack on Letterboxd.
