You didn't want to die, not like this

A masked man with a hand wrapped around your throat, a stained blade ready to puncture through your abdomen

You always thought that you'd die from old age or natural causes

But murder?

You would have never guessed

After being ditched by your friends, all you wanted was to head home

Parties weren't really your thing

Seeing scantily clad people and drunks tripping over themselves only accentuated this point

You thought you were alone as you continued your journey home

Your house was only two blocks away

But then a tall figure stepped in your path, your eyes catching his dirty white mask

"Excuse me..."

You tried to walk past him

But his strong arm pushed you to the ground

You stared up at him and felt your fight or flight instincts kick in

You stood up quickly and made a run for it, trying to lose him among the trees

But as you rounded the corner, his hand grabbed you by the throat and slammed you into the rough bark

You wanted to scream, cry, anything that could relieve this fear of dying

But instead, you stared back at the man, your gaze cold

If you were going to be killed then you weren't going to give your assailant the pleasure of watching you beg or struggle for your life

So you stared

And he stared

And suddenly his grip faltered

He tilted his head slowly at you in what appeared to be confusion

He was studying you

He wasn't used to his victims acting so stoic

And he couldn't even sense an ounce of fear on you

He didn't like this

He dropped his hand and waited for you to run

But you just stood there and looked back at him

Well this was... intriguing

Your murderer didn't seem so interested in killing you after all

Although, some might argue death would be better than what he decided to do

He picked you up and swung you over his shoulder

He was going to keep you

You were far too fascinating to wind up dead

We watched The Raven (Corman, 1963) last night. It’s one of my longtime favorites. Vincent Price is a lovely, funny, effete wizard in this. Peter Lorre is snarky and adorable. And Boris Karloff has such a VOICE! (Bonus: a young Jack Nicholson plays Lorre’s son!)
