A lil oneshot that I'm thinking might become the start of an ongoing fic? We'll see.
Pairing: (HT Sans/reader) with hints of (UT Papyrus/reader)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Build Up My Heart
It’s fucking hot.
You wipe the sweat off your brow and sigh, looking at all the work you and your team accomplished today. You’ve finally finished the framing for the guest house this family of… rather odd skeletons, have hired you to build. And you understand why.
This already large, cabin-like home is practically overflowing with them.
In your time here, you’ve counted at least twelve.
Twelve people. In one home that, yes, is large, but can’t hold more than maybe five or six bedrooms.
It’s a wonder they haven’t ripped each other’s heads off - you’ve overheard a fight or two when you’ve taken your lunch on the lawn… and man do some of them argue.
When you first started working here, you swore you were going crazy. Almost every time you saw one of them it was one you’ve never seen/met before. Yet they all seem to look alike in some way, though you’ve kept that to yourself. Maybe that’s just how it is for skeleton monsters, who are you to say something ignorant like that?
Sans and Papyrus, the two skeletons you’ve spoken with the most, have been patient with every setback this project has had, though you can almost see the exhaustion in their sockets every time they pop over to talk progress. Makes you wonder if they’re the “peacekeepers” of the home.
But, then again, you suppose you shouldn’t be wondering too much. You’re just here to work, get the job done, and eventually move on to the next. Which will likely be another cookie cutter house in a subdivision.
… you’ll admit, though, that you’re going to miss seeing some of the wacky things they do.
And seeing that absolutely gorgeous garden of theirs.
It’s basically your dream. It packs an impressive variety of fruits and vegetables all neatly growing in raised garden beds. Marigolds are scattered about, likely to keep pests away, and there’s much more flowers where that came from - all of which look happy and content if their blooms are anything to go by. Whoever planned the garden, took convenience into account as well. An array of herbs grow right behind the decorative arch to the entrance of the garden. Just in case anyone just needs to grab a quick little something for a recipe.
Stars, you’d love to trade your apartment windowsill, grown out of an old milk jug, herbs for a lovely stroll to this garden. Who wouldn’t?
It also has a line of fruit trees lining the north side of the garden, likely so as not to block the sunshine. Whether those were here when they purchased the land and they planned the garden around it, or not, you wouldn’t doubt that whoever planned this garden would have the foresight for that.
Currently, ripe peaches hang from one tree, and apple blossoms grow on another. Makes you wonder what the other two trees produce, but they must not be in season at the moment with their bareness.
As if all that wasn’t enough, they also topped off this garden with strewn lights, stone pathways, and goofy gnomes.
A garden like this looks like a full time job, yet you’ve never seen who tends to it. You’ve seen some of the household members pick from it, but never who makes sure the weeds stay away, or who manages the more sensitive plants.
You wonder who it is.
“Hey, didn’t ya hear?” A voice calls you from your thoughts. You pry your gaze away from the garden and meet your coworker’s gaze. “It’s quittin’ time.”
“Yeah, I heard.” You confirm, slipping your gloves off. Not that those gloves protect your hands from the rough calluses littering your palms, but they do help them feel less sore at the end of the day. “The boss wants me to meet with those skeletons to go over the next step.” You thank whatever is up there that you actually have an excuse for your daydreaming this time.
“Right, I forgot that you’re a bigwig supervisor now.” He teases. You roll your eyes, that title hardly means anything yet. “Well, we’re all meetin’ at Al’s for drinks, if ya wanna join later.”
You would rather not.
“We’ll see, thanks Ron.” You neither accept nor decline. He gives somewhat of a salute before slipping away with the rest of the bunch.
Slipping your hardhat off, you await the arrival of your boss, scrolling on your phone in the meantime. It’s not long until you hear the rumble of his truck pulling up, and you quickly pocket the device in your hands.
Out hops Ted, clipboard in hand and that aggravating smile on his face.
He’s nice enough, but something about him has always felt a little fake. However, playing nice with the boss was what got you this promotion, so you’re not about to jeopardize that now. Waving you over, he greets the skeleton brothers who approach him rather quickly. Must have been waiting just like you. Eager wouldn’t begin to explain how much they want this project to move along.
You catch the tail end of greetings, shaking both Sans and Papyrus’ hands as you’re formally introduced (though, you’ve already had multiple conversations with them while working). Your boss cracks some jokes that you half laugh along to, before he finally gets down to business. Listening intently, and chiming in when necessary, you learn what you already knew. Plumbing, HVAC, electrical, etc. needs to happen before you and your team can continue. It’ll be contracted out, yadda yadda yadda.
Just as you’re beginning to think you have no reason to be a part of this conversation, it’s… over. Yeah that was a waste of a half hour, though you suppose you may be giving clients this talk at some point so it’s likely important to hear.
Ted wraps things up, shakes their hands again, and takes his leave. Sans slips away after that, claiming that he has something that he needs to get back to. You almost follow and take your leave as well, but Papyrus, who’s always been more social, gets you pausing.
“WELL, HUMAN, I SUPPOSE WE WON’T BE SEEING YOU FOR A LITTLE BIT.” He says. You’ve long since gotten used to his loud voice. You smile.
“Gonna miss me that bad?” You tease. Oddly enough, a light flush of orange rises to his cheekbones. Interesting
“W-Well… I ALWAYS ENJOY OUR TALKS WHEN I BRING OUT WATER.” He blurts. Ah, yes, the water. Ultimately unneeded, but very much appreciated.
“It’ll be a few weeks, at most.” You remind him. He beams at that.
“YES, I SUPPOSE YOU’RE RIGHT.” He agrees. It warms your heart that he seems to care even that much. It’s not often homeowners even talk to you and your crew, let alone be as kind as Papyrus has been. “WELL, YOU’VE HAD A LONG DAY, I WON’T KEEP YOU.”
You check your watch and wince.
“Yeahhh… I still got to run to the store to get some tomatoes for this recipe I’m making, so I should-”
“WE HAVE TOMATOES!” Papyrus all but blurts. You blink up at him. That orange flush is back.
Huh.
“We U-Uh… WE HAVE THAT GARDEN, I’M SURE YOU’VE SEEN IT!” You tilt your head at his words, not wanting to assume where he’s going with this - he is a client after all. “WE HAVE PLENTY, YOU SHOULD PICK SOME AND SAVE YOURSELF A TRIP.”
At any other jobsite, you’d have quickly refused… but something about his hopeful smile and genuinity of the offer has you softening like butter. Plus… you’d get to see that beautiful garden up close.
“You sure? I don’t want to overstep…”
“POSITIVE! I THINK BEAR IS IN THE GARDEN RIGHT NOW, HE COULD SHOW YOU WHERE THEY’RE PLANTED!”
“Bear?” You ask, wracking your brain for which skeleton he’s referring to. You haven’t been introduced to many of them.
“YOU HAVEN’T MET HIM.” Papyrus says with absolute certainty. “HE AVOIDS TENDING TO IT WHEN YOU GUYS ARE HERE WORKING.”
Oh.
“Well, are you sure he’ll want me wandering in there, then?”
“OH, I’M SURE HE’LL BE ALRIGHT WITH IT, HE JUST… HAS TROUBLE SOCIALLY. HE’S NICE, THOUGH.”
You hesitate. This Bear obviously enjoys gardening in the peace and quiet, who are you to interrupt that? However… it’s nearing 7pm and you’re ravenous. A trip to the store sounds like torture.
As if sensing your dilemma, Papyrus pivots, placing a hand on your shoulder and urges you back around the house. “I’LL GO WITH YOU, TO ASSURE YOU ALL IS WELL.” You just nod and follow along, both because it feels like nothing you do will change his mind, and because of your selfish desire to just get done with this day sooner.
Your workboots sink into the plush clover lawn as you both make your way across the backyard to the garden. Your eyes are captured once again, by said garden, and you almost don’t notice the rather large skeleton tending to the flowerbeds in towards the front until Papyrus speaks from across the short fencing.
“BEAR, IS IT ALRIGHT IF MY FRIEND HERE PICKS SOME TOMATOES?”
You look to where Papyrus is speaking, and the first thing you see is the gaping hole in this skeleton’s head.
Holyfuckisheokay?? How-
You look to Papyrus in concern, but see him just… smiling down at you? Confused, you look back to this skeleton, crouched behind a garden bed and lock eyes (eye?) with the bloated, bright red eye-light filling the socket that isn’t scarred from his head wound. You… can’t tell what he’s thinking, with that blank expression of his.
But seeing as this is apparently normal for him, you’re now worried you’ve offended the guy.
Maybe magic helps monsters survive the seemingly unsurvivable? It’s not like he has any internal organs in his skull… maybe that’s why-
You’re pulled from your thoughts as this apparent behemoth stands up.
Oh.
Oh my.
You’re beginning to understand why he’s called ‘Bear’. He’s certainly a bear in every sense of the word. Large, imposing, intimidating… and did you mention huge?? Now, you aren’t small. You’ve kept up in construction for almost a decade now and it shows… but you still feel like a twig, craning your neck to look up at him.
However, the dirt covered overalls he’s wearing, definitely takes away from some of his initial intimidating demeanor.
“... sure.” He rumbles, blank expression still giving no clue to where his mind is.
Holy fucking baritone-
Papyrus pats you on the back and beams at Bear.
“THANK YOU! I’M GOING TO START ON DINNER, OKAY?” You numbly nod, trying to force your thoughts away from where they want to go. “SEE YOU IN A FEW WEEKS, HUMAN!” Tearing your eyes away from Bear, you wave back to Papyrus and watch him retreat into the home. You wait until he’s inside to take in what you hope is a subtle deep breath.
You about leap into the air, when you turn around and find Bear right behind you, at the entrance of the garden. Clutching your chest, you remind yourself to relax. How’d he get there? And so quietly, too…
And you swear you see this giant quirk the smallest of smiles at your jumpiness.
He thinks he’s funny, huh? Asshole.
You stare up at him, flushing and definitely not pouting. “Ah, uh, thanks for letting me steal some tomatoes, you’re saving me a trip to the store.” You decide to be polite. After all, you were the one to gawk first, perhaps you deserved a bit of payback.
He just grunts.
And you both just… stand there. After a few moments of silence, you speak up.
“So… where are they?” You inquire, glancing around at what you can see of the garden, but it’s hard when you have a seven foot wall of solid skele-man right in front of you.
“where are… what?” He asks.
You tilt your head. He just said…
“The tomatoes?” You try, maybe he spaced out when Papyrus asked him if it was okay… and when you just mentioned them a second ago?
He seems to recall something, if the twitch of his bone brows are to say much. Nodding, he turns and lumbers through the rows of flowerbeds. Assuming that’s an invitation for you to follow, you rush to fall into step behind him and his large strides… but, you quickly fall behind as you start to admire the garden’s beauty up close. Your steps slow as you stroll past the growing cauliflower plants. These can be incredibly hard to grow… how did he…?
You gingerly touch one of the leaves, and look up to Bear, who’s stopped and turned to look at what’s keeping you.
“How do you get these to grow so well?” You ask, smiling excitedly at him. He blinks, large shoulders relaxing a bit, as if he was expecting you to ask something else.
He reaches into his overall pocket, and slips out what looks like a very well-loved notebook. You watch curiously, but patiently as he opens it and flips through it. You’re unsure what the notebook has to do with his answer but you’re willing to wait and find out.
He pauses on a page and looks back to you, seeming to ponder something before deciding ‘fuck it’, as he approaches you and hands the book to you. It’s got various dirt stains, and some pages have been taped back in where they’ve come loose, so you treat it with care as you take it from his grasp. And there, on the page you see notes in small, neat handwriting. Research notes, with drawings and everything. The topic being the little cauliflower plant you’re standing next to.
Some of it seems to just be information taken from the internet and put in short form, while others seems to be from actual trial and error. You skim his writing, noticing that he’s scratched some things out but towards the end, he seems to have figured out the perfect schedule for the plant to thrive.
You’re tempted to flip through the book and read more, but you refrain. That seems like an invasion of privacy.
“Wow, that’s really cool that you go as far to take all these notes. You must really enjoy this, huh?” You ask, handing it back to him. He stares at it in his hands for a moment, before putting it back in his pocket.
He just nods.
“Not much of a talker?” You tease lightheartedly, trying to see if you can get any sort of… anything out of this guy other than blank staring and slightly intimidating silence.
He shrugs, and turns back around, leading you again.
But you’re not done.
“You’ve really built something beautiful here, ya know?” You continue. He just keeps walking. “This is amazing! It could almost be considered a small farm! Though, I guess with all your housemates to feed, it’s just a garden, huh?”
Still no answer, but you swear he starts walking a little faster if the way you have to almost jog to keep up is anything to go by.
“The flowers too? Man, this must be a full time job that, I’ll be honest, I’m a little jealous of! I’d be in here all day if I was able to! This is absolutely gorgeous, Bear! Do you take care of this all by yourself? You really have a talent, I hope you know that.”
Suddenly Bear stops, leaving you to walk right into his back… which given his height means you faceplant right into his spine. He barely budges, yet the force of it knocks you on your butt. You grunt and rub at your smarting nose. Damn, this dude is solid.
His red light stares down at you, from the corner of his good socket. He doesn’t apologize, or offer you a hand, just simply points to the tomato plant in front of him.
“... tomato.” He mutters, then takes his leave, stepping over your sprawled legs and heading back to the flower bed he was working on.
… huh, you could’ve sworn, you saw the faintest hints of blue on his cheekbones.
Chuckling to yourself, and once again, thinking that these skeletons are silly, you pick yourself up and dust off your pants. Not that. You really need to dust off your already dirty work clothes, but it feels right.
You lean over the tomato plants in question, finding quite a little variety in the garden bed. Roma, cherry, black krim, campari - and those are just the ones you can name. Dinner in this house must be full of all the most delicious, fresh produce.
Once again, you’re a little jealous.
You pick a few ripe and tasty looking romas, and call it good. While you’d love to experiment with some of the others, this was a kind offer from a friend and given to you by an acquaintance, you’re not about to take advantage of either of them. Holding your goods protectively to you, you wander back to the entrance of the garden, where Bear is once again knelt in front of one of the flowerbeds, tugging at some stubborn looking weeds.
He glances at you as you approach him. You hold up your three tomatoes and grin at him. “Thank you for these, you saved me a trip to the store!” A nod is all you get. “And… speaking of the store, I feel bad just taking these, I have cash?”
That gets him to fully turn his skull to look at you, and you take that as a yes.
“This is about a pound, I’d say, so how about I just give you an even $5?” You offer. Yet again, he just stares.
“... I mean I can look up how much it is at the store or you can give me a price too, if you’d rather…” You ramble, feeling a little awkward under that stare of his. You just met the guy today, and he’s proving to be extremely hard to read.
You’re about to just reach into your pocket and pull out a $10 (way too much, but you’d pay anything to get out of this awkward silence), when your stomach growls rather loudly. His stare moves to your belly.
“Ah, uh, yeah it’s dinner time, huh?” You try to joke it off. His light flits back to your face, and finally, he just waves you off.
“... You don’t want money?” You ask tentatively. He shakes his head.
“... go home.” He rumbles, yet his tone isn’t rude, “go eat.” He adds. Your shoulders release tension you didn’t even quite realize was there and the awkwardness finally fading, and you offer him a grateful smile.
“Thank you, it’s been a long day. I really appreciate it.”
He hums.
“... and I hope you know you don’t have to wait until our team leaves to tend to your garden. This is your home, we’re just working here.”
He raises a skele-brow at your words, looking unimpressed as he gestures to the sizable hole in his skull. You hold back a wince as you remember your reaction. You know the guys you work with, and you also know that your reaction is probably going to be the most tame one he gets.
“Right… I uh, I’m really sorry for how I reacted, I thought it was a recent injury and I was worried you needed an ambulance or something cause humans can’t survive something like that, but that was really insensitive.” You murmur. His stare seems to slightly soften at that, but you barely notice that as an idea pops in your brain. Instantly, you brighten. “Wait here! I’ve got an idea, I will be right back!”
And with that, you start a careful jog to your old, beat up truck - not wanting to drop your precious produce. Once there, you deposit your small bounty into your upside down hardhat to keep them from rolling around, and then pop open your rather dirt-covered glove department. You’ve never really found the point in cleaning your truck that often when you just dirty it everyday after work. Digging through the mess of papers there, your hands find that knit fabric they were looking for.
“Ah hah!” You exclaim excitedly, closing your vehicle’s door and rushing back around the house to the garden that you left Bear at. He’s since moved on to a different flowerbed, but no amount of kneeling would hide that big frame of his and he’s rather easy to spot because of it.
Hearing the crunches on your loud footsteps in the gravel, he turns, seeming a little surprised that you actually came back.
You hold up the beanie in your hand, grinning at him as you let him connect the dots, it was one of your first crochet projects… and you misread the amount of links you’d need for it, resulting in a beanie that was ridiculously large for your head. You had meant to toss it or take it apart for the yarn, but it found its way into your glove department, and that’s where it’s stayed for almost a year.
However, it seems to be the perfect size for this skeleton giant in front of you.
“Wanna see if it fits?” You ask, stepping closer. In your excitement, you don’t connect the dots that his skull might be a no-touching zone, and reach to slip it on. He quickly leans away from you, eyeing the beanie warily.
“Oh, right. Sorry, here.” You hold it out in an offer. He hesitantly takes it, staring at it for a long moment before glancing up to you. “It’ll stretch, if you’re worried about it catching those edges.” You assure him, not sure how sensitive the area around his injury is, but figuring it’s better safe than sorry.
After a few more moments of silence (that are beginning to feel a little less awkward), he slowly and carefully slips the beanie on his skull. He makes sure to stretch it and hold it a little ways away on his injured side of his skull, and soon it’s sitting nicely on his head.
A perfect fit.
“There! Now it’s hidden!” You say. He tilts his head. “I know it’s not fair that you can’t just waltz out here in broad daylight while we’re here without worrying about feeling judged, but it’s also not fair to have to hole yourself inside and wait until we leave to do your thing. I mean, it’s almost dark and you’ve got a lot more to do, and these string lights only illuminate so much.” You explain.
He nods, slipping it off and moving to hand it back to you, as if he’s not aware it’s a gift.
“Keep it, think of this as a trade for the yummy tomatoes! Plus, I think you look cute in it.” You say, smiling again as you see the slight blue return to his face. “If you decide you don’t like it, feel free to do whatever you’d like with it, it’s not like it’ll fit my head anyways.” You say with a little laugh.
A low rumbling noise escapes Bear. You tilt your head, and it doesn’t click until you see the smile on his face and his shoulders bouncing slightly. He’s chuckling at you.
You ignore the growing warmth on your face at hearing more of that very attractive voice of his, and let out a few little giggles of your own, closing your eyes as you do.
So, you’re none the wiser when Bear slips the beanie off of his head and moves closer to you in that silent way he does. It’s not until he plops the article onto you that you sputter and open your eyes, only to be met with your lashes brushing against the yarn and your vision being hindered by the way the beanie practically reaches the bottom of your nose. Reaching up, you lift it up and find Bear grinning at you.
“... no, it doesn’t… does it?”
He’s making fun of you. Again.
Jokingly pouting, you slip it off and toss it back at him, where it bounces off his chest harmlessly and falls into his lap. He guffaws at that, his little chuckles turning into a deep belly laughter.
It’s infectious, and soon, you’re joining in again.
It’s not until your stomach makes your hunger loudly well known again, that he sobers, looking serious once again.
“... you need… to eat.” He reminds you.
You smile sheepishly, and try not to be too disappointed at having to leave. You were just getting him outta his shell a bit!
“Yeah, I do. Your dinner will be ready soon, too, I bet.” You say, shifting your weight on your feet as you stall just a moment longer. “I uh, hope to see more of you.”
He just stares again, but there’s a sharpness missing in his light.
“Goodnight, Bear.” You say, pivoting to take your leave. He doesn’t say anything right away, and you just assume he won’t, given what you’ve learned about him today.
But as you start to walk back to your truck, you hear a quiet, “goodnight.” from Bear. You smile again, turning to give him a little wave that you don’t see if he returns as you round the corner of the house.
I’ve been wanting to post these for a while!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BEHOLD! tWO ANOMALY AUS!!!!
((Anomaly by @htsan!!!!))
to be honest, either concept could just be for a reader in general, but the first thing I thought of was sansnomaly so!!! yeah
feel free to ask me stuff about either of these AUs!! The general info is down below but I do have more ideas for these! Depending on how well this does I might make more drawings, but if you want more feel free to ask!!!!
So the Hades AU is pretty simple. Sans is our Persephone, getting dragged down to the underworld with us!! I chose to make my Hades anomaly a lonely and nervous person, but the anomaly is literally us, so the personality is up to you!!! You can choose to follow the stuff I put in text, or not. Either way it’s more sansnomaly :)
The second one is a little more obscure- it’s a Coraline AU! We give Sans this little world where he can be happy for a while before he returns (we aren’t gonna hurt him or anything like the Other Mother dw!!!) to his own! Also, there are multiple anomalies!! Unfortunately, we’re all stuck in the Other World. This causes some anomalies to… become a little unhinged. They still don’t hurt Sans, but they take on more and more spiderlike qualities as they get more and more possessive of Sans :( The anomalies who have more doll-like attributes still want Sans to stay with them, but if he is put in harm’s way they will let him go.
Also, yes the spider anomalies have the Other Mother’s hands. Those things are fucking gorgeous how could I not
Hi there! Hope you don't mind but I'm just wondering if you have any recs for fanfics of the skellies :D I typically love reverse harem trope ones racoonsinqueen & tyranttortoise my absolute favs but if you know any that are just one main pairing but the writing is still good, I'd love to know :D
OK, EVERYONE STOP THEIR HORSES, because it's fanfic appreciation time ✨
I've read my fair share of fanfics, most aren't finished or their authors disappeared but I'll mention them too because they still very much worth it and I. Just. Love. Themmmm!
Also I'll try listing by memory so this is probably going to be messy:
Bitty Hunt by RND_Injustice (SSLL but you're a bitty! Unfinished, has 33 chapters + 18 bonus chapters in here. 10/10 Already read it three times) My Favorite Red Scarf by RND_Injustice (Reader x UT Papyrus. Unfinished, has 34 chapters. MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. 100/10 I want to marathon this fic with someone, if that makes sense) Fur a good time, Call by popatochisp (Reader x HT Sans. Finished, with extra chapters on Snips & Snails. Another favorite with a 100/10. Also want to marathon this one) Dirty Laundry by popatochisp (Reader x Swapfell bros. Finished. To be honest I don't remember much, that's why it's in my rereading list but it promise very good things and the feelings I get just reading bits are like-- kdjkdjkdj my heart!) On top of the Bone Pile by Lyrjok (Reverse Harem. Finished. Good writing, SSLL vibes but totally different and really good. 10/10. Rereading right now) A Mouse Among Skeletons by Duchess_Aquarius (Reverse Harem with more skeletons than the main 5 AUs. Kinda crazy, rlly, but I still ate it. Finished. Be sure to read the tags. Rlly good writing. You decide how good it is) Bones, Picked Clean by lulu-writes (Reverse Harem. Unfinished. 37 chapters. I don't remember much about it but I loved their Horrortale bros) The Skeleton Games by Poetax (Reader x UF Sans. On going, has 56 chapters by this time, SHORTY RED. I also love this one, another favorite hehe. Unexpected 100/10 to me) Aggre(v/g)ation by Llama_Goddess (Reverse Harem with UF/HT/UT Sans x Reader. Finished. Being honest again, I started reading years ago and haven't finished it for reasons that have nothing to do with the fic. I found it again and let's just say there's a reason why everyone worships this fic)
Those are ones that made my days the first time I enter tumblr. Now that i'm back, lets continue with the recent ones i've read:
House Next Door by BattleMaiden13 (Reverse Harem. On going. Has 130 chapters by this time but you're damned if you want to catch up because THAT AUTHOR IS FAST AF. I've started reading like a month ago and they already posted 25 chapters. Writing improves very fast as you're reading and there's so many things to enjoy. Delicious. 10/10) Saving Three Ex-cell-lent Skeletons by RecklesslyCaffeinated (Reverse harem with UF/HT/UT Sans x Reader. Finished with a second book on the works. ABSOLUTE BANGER. Another 10/10, made me heart bleed for skeletons and question myself) It's just a Game by Htsan (You x UT Sans. Finished. Unconventional. Read it if you like heavy angst and interactive games, and maybe hate your emotional stability... Really good, tho. 10/10. Made me cry so many times. Not gonna elaborate)
Sans x You week 2023, ch1: Fallen King👑
Being the king of the arcade wasn't an easy feat, and Sans had been coming to this place every day after work for the past 6 months. When he moved here, he decided to go around town to check everything the big city had to offer, and had been elated to find a place where he could play retro games on old arcades. It reminded him of his youth.
I'm really late in posting the links to this fic here, but that's because I was already posting Inktobertale and I didn't want to post everything at once and then post nothing for like 8 months, like I always do. XD So the whole fic is already available on AO3, but I'm still going to post each chapter individually here (to show off the cards I made XD). Anyway, I've been itching to write some Sans/Reader fic ever since I wrote a Pap/Reader one, and so I couldn't resist these prompts!! ♥♥♥ Once again, the entire fic is SFW!
Thank you @htsan for those yummy prompts!! ♥
IJAG is an amazing fic. Everyone should give it a read, even if you don't normally read x reader fics. Go for the writing itself.
[I would hand the multiverse to him on a silver platter-]
Catalyst
Rating: M Word count: 1,480 Pairing: HT Sans/Reader
I read Htsan's It's just a game and Love Grows by lylia9000. Both really good 4th wall romances that I strongly rec. I got inspired to write a short based on the premise.
They say there are 5 elements to a story; Exposition, Raising Action, Climax, Falling Action, and finally the Conclusion.
So let's start with the exposition.
Once upon a time, a human fell into the underground—
But you already knew that, didn't you?
We have to fast forward. Scroll through the endless trials and multiple scenes played out by long familiar characters as they blur and blend into a rainbow painted in greyscale.
That's right.
This story has already ended. The climax is long passed and forgotten.
Or it should've been…at least.
Watch the world around you, witness the way the sky shifts and the earth sinks, stare into the void as reality itself tears apart like paper ripped right down the center.
A fissure now in place of what had once been a happy ending.
And that's where we stop.
In a white roar of noise with nothing but sorrow, and hunger, for company.
Once a story ends it must inevitably bleed into another. There are souls in the world that wouldn't have it any other way.
But the question we should be asking ourselves is: how?
How can something continue past a conclusion, if it's already ended? Then surely, the story never truly concluded in the first place, right?
Wrong.
A world fades and collides when people stop caring for it. A tale falls out of time when there's no minds and hearts to suspend it. A story dies when there's no one left to listen, until there's no one left to tell it.
And that is the conclusion.
So, how?
…simple, by being broken.
By throwing the world off its axis and distorting liner perception of time, by blinking in and out of other's spaces and recognitions, by listening—
To the silence.
And finding sound.
~~
The rain is falling.
It's a cascade of endless drizzle carrying with it the scent of wet cement and mud caked paving stones through a bleak coloration of dreary silver.
A skeleton stands beneath it, unfazed and unimpressed by the downpour as he stares up at the sky and sees only black. The water falling into his sockets is barely a footnote in his attention, as are the countless droplets pouring into the massive crack in his skull. The water gathers and chills him from the inside out but he fails to notice, too used to the lack of any real sensation other than ice against his bones.
The huff he lets out comes out a thick cloud of icy vapor as his gaze slowly drops to the barren road in front of him. He possesses a single eye—the color of fresh blood—in his left socket. It once belonged to another but now it serves him and is kept alive by his magic, and as a consequence lights the darkened space around him with an ominous tinted glow that casts his sharpened features in stark relief.
Terrifying, imposing.
Even as he wears an expression of utter exhaustion and boredom.
"told him it was going to rain." He mutters. "but did he listen? no, of course he didn't. thanks pap, you're the best."
His tone drips sarcasm but it's half hearted at best. He's beyond caring to scathe and scorn others with any real venom as he once did. With a spine chilling creak his arm lifts to scratch at the gap atop his cranium. The ache of his body is made obvious as he lets what had once been blunt tips—but now were deadly macabre claws—scrape down the side of his skull.
The sound of nails on chalkboard screeches around him filling the silence.
It stops once his phalanges find what they seek and latch onto the rim of his dead socket. He pulls—
There's a crack.
He hisses, satisfied.
Sighing he lets go and tucks his wandering hand back into the drenched pocket of his threadbare and torn coat. Its color has faded so drastically from neglect that no one can correctly guess that its shade had once been a soft deep blue, or that the gray fur that adornes it had belonged to a brown pelted wolf before being haphazardly sown in to provide a false warmth to a starving creature when the fleece had long since fallen from inside it.
The skeleton groans.
No one hears him.
No one but the girl whose hair he keeps trapped within the locket he tucks away safely beneath his hole-ridden shirt, pressed flush against his ribs where his soul thrums. There's a pulse and he smirks, but just as quickly as it'd arrived it falls to be replaced with a frown as metal on metal grinds through the air and signals the arrival of a bus.
The doors open as soon as it stops.
He glares impassively at the driver who meets him with a dour expression of his own. The driver is a human—a monster hater that carries no shame for his beliefs. The skeleton hates him but respects the man's honesty in his bigotry.
"took ya long enough." He grumbles. His steps are heavy and cause the bus to dip as he shuffles on and walks past the man, making sure to swipe a bent passcard over the machine in passing with his stare aimed and locked on the seat furthest in the back. His usual spot.
"You're lucky I stopped at all." The driver drones back before slamming the handle down to lock the doors.
The monster laughs, and manages to keep his balance without a single sway as the bus lurches and takes off at a speed meant to topple him. 'nice try', he thinks, before taking his seat.
There’s blood, the clash of water on rock as the tide rolls in and with it a furious burn that stabs and numbs all at once. Betrayal goes down bitter and rises back up a bitter bile spewing hate and agony. Revulsion claws at cloth and splinters bone, spilling marrow and blackened ichor down teeth that can no longer grin with anything but ire and loathing.
The monster stands before a door.
Putrid desire fills his chest cavity like smog from freshly burned smoke stacks. He closes his sockets and wraps a hand around the locket still hidden away beneath his clothing and believes he can feel it scorch the skin he doesn’t have. Sockets narrowed and grin sharp he pushes open the door, and is met with a human female bound in frayed rope and thick iron rusted chains inscribed with the ancient language of his magic.
She looks up through fearful almond colored eyes.
“missed me?” The way in which he asks is teasing, cruel. “sorry, had a bit of a long day. pap decided i needed to walk home. something about needing the exercise, heh, what a riot.”
“I–”
He moves quickly, his speed faster than a jaguar's as he snatches her hair and twists it around his wrist. She lets out a pained cry as he pulls til her neck is a straight line of flesh, her nose pointed directly at the ceiling as she struggles under the bonds that keep her on her knees. He closes in on her, and forces her eyes to stare into the blinding fury of his eye as it roils with latent fury and malicious intent.
His words are a  whisper of warning, “i wasn’t talking to you.”
She shuts her eyes as she gives in and goes limp.
Phalanges slip under his shirt and drag over his spinal column and ribs, slowly, savoring their journey, before alighting against the locket that now burns hot enough it’s searing. He relishes the sting as he grips it and tugs it free. The clasp easily comes undone and its chain falls between the creases of his joints, pools and falls to drip down as if liquid gold.
He lets go of the girl’s hair and she whimpers knowing what comes next.
There’s reverence in his gaze as he stares down at the trinket he holds. The locket is nestled safely in his palm–a tiny seed in a devil’s clutch–he doesn’t resist the urge to cup it in both hands as his smile falls into a softened frown. He shuts his sockets and holds it against his chest before opening them again with a manic glee.
The sound of the chain rattling echoes as the locket falls and goes taunt to suspend between his hands. A morbid imitation of a human nailed to a crucifix is depicted as a white light forms over its center and expands into being.
Carefully he brings the chain around the girl’s neck–
The maddening twist of a stomach years long empty, a blinding hysteria of hopelessness and apathy, yearning–unfathomable yearning to fall.
The world is bathed in black.
Light shines in around hazy edges as sensation floods in.
“there you are.” Sans whispers, soft.. “happy to see me, krokette?”
You smile. “Always.”
Awh, shii, here we go again.
yup, i'm makin' another fic and it's similar to my previous fic AMATIVE. This fic is considered a "Canon" x OC and not an x Reader, so if yer not into that, I'd suggest skeddaddling now. If you ARE into it... nice.
This is a human!Sans x monster!OC, and the design credit for this human sans belongs to the great @htsan. i know last time i said plz ignore, but y'know what, go crazy wit it this round. maybe i'll become a whore for attention. reblog, like, comment, go ham ig.
please heed the content warnings because the people in this fic are MEAN. and, for the record, the OC does show her side of racism as well, but don't worry. we's fuckin the racism out by the end of this. I've got part 2 finished, but part 3 might take a minute...
That's all I got though! Enjoy part one. Cha cha <3
“Bold of you to bring me to a restaurant with a bunch of fish tanks surrounding us,” grumbles a black cat, whose voice is tight and churlish.
Sitting across a plump man—whose clean-shaven head proves well to blind passing monsters and humans alike—is a feminine black cat, her radiant golden eyes squinting sharply at his dorky grin. She sits with her slender and furry arms crossed over her chest, rustling her creamy halter strap crop top.
He chuckles, “didn’t want us ta get stuck de-bait-ing where we should eat, so i thought this would be a fin place.”
“...” The black cat monster says nothing, but her acidic squinting quickly evolves into an unimpressed grimace. “...die.”
“pff- don’t be koi now—”
“Quit it.”
“you finally let me reel you out for once—”
“I said stop.”
“and you’re wearin’ a pretty dress for the occasion...”
“...”
“...” The man grins, his flabby chin resting on the flats of his palms. “it really made my jaws drop when i first craw you.”
Lune’s gold-tipped ears immediately fold back, her nose twitching. Her features instantly scrunch up, regret over saying “yes” to going out boiling deep within. The cat’s pupils shrink into slender threads as she bores her unimpressed stare on Sans’s smug face, her sleek tail swirling beside the curve of her thigh.
“...” Her expression remains sour.
Hehe...
Isn’t he just adorable?
The tightness on Lune’s face loosens on the spot, her lips almost parting to curl back in disapproval, but she stops herself. Instead of staring at the clean-shaven human with affliction written all over her face, the black-furred cat merely gawks back at him in awe, though something tells Sans it isn’t out of fondness.
...hah?
“Adorable”? Him?
Mm-hmm! He was oh-so sweet for asking you to come out for the night!
...he wouldn’t stop saying “please”.
He’s very persistent!
Agitating.
Don’t be mean! He’s trying his best!
Lune’s face becomes pointed, her point of focus veering off to the side absentmindedly. Her golden gaze narrows as she gazes at one of the luxurious fish tanks.
He should stop.
I’m sick of bein’ duped.
Hh-He isn’t duping you! He’s genuine!
With shrewd precision, Lune peers at the human sitting across from the corner of her eye, her lids squinting acutely. She watches the naturally weary human trail his cerulean eyes up to the ceiling embellished with intricate carvings—they remind him of the crashing waves on a seashore—before they fly to another group of humans wrapped in laughter and merriment. The vibrissae stretched above Lune’s squinted eyes furrow.
I don’t see what makes this human any different than the others.
She inhales slowly, the glow of her golden gaze dimming as she squeezes her lids shut. In a habitual temperament, Lune’s tail curls in on itself only to unfold before it curls again. The cat monster slightly digs her yellow-ish claws into the wood of the table, tendons threatening to bulge out from beneath her furry exterior until she releases her grip.
Lune always took June for a fool. A tall, wide-eyed fool. A voluptuous fool. Why did she have to be the one in control of their SOUL? June is as helpless as a toddler stuck in the middle of a mall—which, ironically, occurred once.
June found Sans in the middle of a road, where a car was destined to crash right into his pudgy and stunted body—perhaps it would have killed him; Lune likes to think it would have. After many laborious months of running into each other and pursuing “dates”, Sans unwittingly professed his affections for the bunny monster on a night of celebration. Supposedly, the drinks had a death grip on him, and unfortunately loosened his tongue.
Ever since then, the three two of them lived together with nothing but tranquility and love between them. At any given chance, Lune insulted the human from within the recesses of June’s mind. Never were they addressed by the bunny herself, but Lune was always there. Always nagging about the evident flaws the human possessed. Always pointing out his insecurities as attempts to change June’s mind and get rid of him.
Of course... none of it ever worked. June always looked at the bright side. June always chose to usher Lune’s words away and embrace the human. She always chose to press her amative kisses on his cheeks, his forehead, his nose, his lips, and his body whenever it offered itself. To say Lune abhorred their boundless affections would be an understatement.
She hated seeing both of them joyous. Didn’t she deserve it, too?
No, she hated seeing June joyous around a human.
What good have humans brought us?
All they do is cheat, lie, and hurt everyone.
Th-That’s just not true!
Lune gradually pivots her ears, flashing their soft pink skin. She glares at Sans.
“Why did you ask for me to go out with you? Got tired of June suckin’ up to ya?” Lune questions him, settling the lengths of her furry arms on the ragged wood of their table.
Sans blinks out of his listless stupor, cerulean eyes quick to latch onto Lune’s pointed expression. He spies the skepticism swirling in her narrowed eyes, but he refuses to draw any offense from her cynical query. Instead, the bald man—who actually decided to wear decent clothing for the night—merely cracks a grin.
“why not? you usually come out at night when e’ryone’s asleep... but you just run around the apartment for... whatever reason...” Sans’s grin slightly stretches, almost appearing thinner to the cat lady across from him. His shoulders rise and fall, lids slowly shutting themselves. “ey, i don’t judge. you do whatever makes ya happy i guess.”
Lune gives him another pointed look before turning her head, mildly irritated at his lack of a straight answer. She hates when he gets all elusive with his responses.
A small grumble reverberates within her vocal cords, “And I’m just supposed to believe you’re genuinely interested in a monster like me and June.”
Lune watches him raise a hairless brow, his hands interlacing each other as they sit on the edge of the table.
“...uh... yeah?” He plainly states.
“...”
It appears the bitter monster remains unconvinced. Slowly, her arms slide off the table and return to the height of her chest in order to weave them together. Her tail swishes at her side, brushing off meager speckles of leftover food from—assumably—the previous customers.
“You know I hate humans, right?” Lune bluntly tells him, hardly bothering with maintaining a sugar-coated disposition.
“yup.”
“...and that doesn’t concern you?”
“...should it?”
Lune’s ears veer away from each other before gradually reclining against the top of her head.
“For a long time I wondered why June would pick someone like you,” she grumbles. “You’re not extraordinary. Not conventionally attractive—”
“water y’talkin’ about? i think you should be a little more s-pacific...”
“Kck—” Lune grits her jagged teeth, whiskered brows furrowing as deep as the Mariana trench. “You’re just proving my point-! You got those annoying jokes, and you never take things seriously! How the hell does June put up with you?”
Sans chuckles, utilizing his hands to shrug.
“maybe she’s just not as crabby as you can be,” he answers, his features consumed by another wave of smugness.
“...”
A prolonged groan mixed with fatigue rolls over the cat’s golden tongue, her pupils rising to the ceiling, teasing the likelihood of rolling her eyes. She denies herself the satisfaction and merely returns her impassive gaze back to Sans.
“...tch- whatever. Just keep me out of it,” mutters the monster, who reclines into her seat.
“...”
Aimlessly kicking his feet under the table, Sans stares back at Lune—who remains persistent in not glancing his way—before he pivots his head entirely to half-heartedly admire the atmosphere. A variety of voices fill the restaurant: loud and indistinct, honeyed and brusque, high-pitched and dull. Most struggle with interlacing each other, fighting in a war of sonority within the building.
The stout human and feline monster entered the scene roughly an hour ago, one bitter and irritated while the other was indifferent to the atmosphere before them. Regardless, Sans thought it would be a great idea if he received his brother’s advice and took Lune out on an o-fish-al date, considering she rarely wanted to pop out when he and June started dating. When she first emerged from June’s subconscious, it... didn’t exactly go the way Sans expected it to.
Immediately, Lune sprung at him and pinned him on the floor, her fangs dripping with an abundance of glossy, sinewy drool. Her unrelenting stare held a malice that practically haunted him for the following nights. He didn’t know he would genuinely fear for his life when facing a monster—he hardly ever had trouble with them before—so he thought Lune wouldn’t be so different.
He regretted his words within a second.
June supposedly fought Lune for the control of the SOUL in that moment, overwhelming her with piercing headaches and numbing every imperceptible nerve in her body. Lune fought desperately to maintain her control. Clawed at her own face and wrestled with herself for the authority of her SOUL, but she inevitably lost to June’s strength and retreated to her subconscious.
“Hhaa-... hhf... hmph...”
June slowly turned to Sans. When he really thought about it... that was the first time he saw her drop her smile out of fear... she dreaded what would happen if she ever let Lune out again.
“...maybe-... maybe we should–” June worriedly lowered her eyes–“postpone... an official meeting... with Lune...” she mumbled, anxiously dropping her head between her shoulders.
Now, after enduring a year and six months of facing Lune on several occasions, the two remain seated across from each other. Lune sits with her arms crossed at her chest, wearing a cream-colored crop top with straps running up her chest, over her collarbones, and behind her neck. Situated around her waist is a dark brown flowy skirt with sunflowers sutured around the edge of the fabric. In Lune’s defense, this was the outfit June begged her to go out in...
Sans, however, unwinds in his seat whilst wearing a simple white button up—multitudes of folds practically carved in the material considering it’s been sitting at the base of his closet for an unspecified amount of time—and a plain gray jacket. His legs are dressed in black slacks that easily pass for a pair of dress pants, not that anyone called him out on them yet.
“...”
“...”
Lune’s posture slightly caves in, her glowing eyes flitting back to Sans’s ordinary expression. When the man catches her curious gaze, he allows his grin to widen. She grimaces and tears her gaze away.
...you’re not going to... say anything?
Tch- why should I? He’s just being weird and...
Again, the female monster guides her skeptical eyes to the human across from her. As she suspects, his cerulean eyes remain locked on her facial features, a look of amusement and mirth twinkling across his face.
Staring.
Blankness quickly takes over Lune’s features, her eyes boring into the fish tank just behind the counter of Sans’s head.
He’s trying to be sweet! He likes you!
Ew... I’d rather... not deal with that.
You used to be super mean when it came to humans, but you’ve gotten better at it!
It’s obvious he’s changed your mind!
Tch-
Did you forget that kids used to throw sticks and rocks at us for being us?
...
Did you forget that Caleb can’t see out of his left eye now because of humans?
I-...
Humans killed cats and rabbits for generations. Who’s to say we’re not next?
Hh-He’s different, Lune! He wouldn’t hurt a-a fly!
You’re a fool. He could become a threat just like—
scchhhhhhhhhhhhh-
Mm—
scchhhhhhhhh-
Wh-
schhhhhh-
Lune blinks out of her acrimonious trance when a distinct shuffling takes place before her, her eyes frantically searching around her as if the culprit is a neighboring table. Soon, however, Lune directs her bemused gaze to the only possible suspect. She stares him down momentarily before batting her eyes down to witness his arm gradually stretching across the table.
The space between her whisker brows decreases, her ears slouching reluctantly, a distinct look of perplexity written all over her furry features. She notices his hand remains plastered atop a square-shaped napkin, further inciting her bemusement.
“...?” Lune stays silent, but her lips momentarily part, as if she means to drop a puzzled comment, though nothing ever leaves her.
Sans’s lids squint with childish glee, eyes locked in on Lune’s twisted features, finding her bewilderment utmost amusing. Quickly, he peels his hand off of the plain white napkin only to recoil his entire posture back to his side of the table.
“...hah?” Is all that Lune manages to utter out.
Opting to ignore the evident glee written on Sans’s face, Lune hesitantly lowers her hand and clasps the napkin. Her yellow finger beans run over the floppy material of the napkin, noticing certain characters are etched into the flatness, a faint note of ink drifting across the pad of her sensitive nose. Upon observing the scent of pen ink, Lune sets her attention onto the napkin itself, creasing the fur between her vibrissae as she concentrates on the written message.
“i’d fuck you silly over this table if nobody else was here.”
“...”
Lune reads it again. Then again. Hoping she misread; skipped a few letters, perhaps.
No...
It definitely says “i’d fuck you silly over this table if nobody else was here”.
My... how bold...
Ew.
Reluctance consumes Lune’s movement as she slowly looks back at the ostensibly grinning man before her, his lids barely hanging. Lune is entirely silent, too starstruck and disturbed to come up with a snarky reply. The napkin remains flopped over the back of her twitching digits, the scribbled words gawking back at Sans although upside down—it almost makes his grin widen.
“...you don’t even have a pen on you,” Lune bluntly states. “...so how the hell did you write this?”
“guess you could say i’d be an ink-credible magician, huh?” Sans snorts, his tubby body gradually leaning forward until he can easily set his elbows on top of the table. “i thought it’d be a pretty fine point gag, y’know.”
“...” She parts her lips before sealing them shut. Seconds later, she peels them open again to speak, “You’re fuckin’ annoying, y’know that?”
“yep. my number one hobby,” he remarks, snapping his fingers before finger gunning the aggravated cat. “eyyyy... when’s our food comin’? i’m kinda hungry. you’d expect them ta bring out some bread, huh? that’s the yeast they could do.”
“Kckk—”
Shut up. Shut up. Shut up.
“didn’t you order the egg soup?”
Shut up. Shut up. Shut up. Shut up.
“i’m eggs-pectin’ it’ll be out here soon,” Sans chuckles. “if they don’t bring us some food, i’ll just keep makin’ these stupid jokes ‘til you crack up.”
“...”
Stiffness takes over Lune’s facial features, her eyes boring themselves into space while her lips are drawn thin. Her right ear flicks at the air repeatedly, as if fencing off a pesky insect attempting to land on her fur. Soon, the cat’s tail curls repeatedly, swishing and twisting at her side like a snake held in a chokehold.
He’s not a threat...
Her eyes slightly widen, wrinkles itching the subtle bridge of her nose and revealing bits of her fangs as she grimaces at the clean-shaven human.
He’s just.
Really.
A n n o y i n g.
“i’m actually enjoying myself,” he remarks, kicking his legs with a look of satisfaction across his face. “y’know... yer really not that bad to be around. sure, it’s also pretty fun makin’ you mad and watching you huff and puff like a big bad wolf. but honestly... you’re a nice change of pace. yer honest... yer pretty resolute. ‘n... y’know. yer...” Sans smiles sheepishly, finally averting his gaze for once before reeling his eyes back to Lune’s puzzled expression.
“you’re... also pretty... pretty. you and juney are pretty,” he admits, raising his shoulders. “even when you’re pipin’ mad, i think you’re pretty to look at.”
“Wh—” Lune winces, her raven-black fur tingling at the base of each follicle she possesses until suddenly... she appears poofy to the human.
Sans flits his attention to her current state, glancing up and down at her fluffiness, unable to resist the knowing grin from spreading across his lips. He rests his fleshy cheeks into the comfort of his palms, practically getting comfortable in his seat while witnessing the feline monster toil with herself after receiving his words of adoration.
“O-Oi-! I’m not... gonna fall for that. You could trick June with that kind of talk, but yy-you won’t get me,” Lune grumbles, firmly crossing her arms over her chest in the manner of a fussy toddler.
“what kinda talk?” Sans hums, gradually letting the weight of his left cheek take over his palm, leading him into cocking his head to the side. “y’mean like... if i told you i love it when your eyes sparkle like the wishing well star cluster... lookin’ at your eyes feels way better than star gazing, too.”
Lune’s SOUL twists, settling deep within the pits of her stomach (if she technically owned one), where it continues to squirm uncomfortably. She shakes slightly, grumbling curses to herself while squeezing her eyes shut and turning her head away.
“Tch-... you just... sound stupid... a-and corny...”
Sans chuckles, “and you sound a little starstruck.”
What the hell is goin’ on? Did he just turn this all on me?
“Y—”
“You-!”
Lune winces when a voice cuts through the atmosphere, her ears instinctively twisting and folding back to protect her sensitive hearing. Her posture adjusts itself while she remains seated, luminous golden eyes quickly searching the room for the source of the voice.
Pivoting her head the instant she catches movement in the corner of her eyes, Lune faces her left, where she witnesses a short-haired human woman with smooth olive skin march up to their table, her steps clearly indicating she means to address Sans. Lune sees the woman is wearing a juniper dress, the fabric hugging the woman’s body and outlining her alluring curves whilst the puffy material sewn across the bosom of her dress allows enough room for the imagination.
The woman has dark brown hair and keeps her hair styled in a soft pixie cut; a means of displaying her innate confidence and authoritative personality. Her dark eyes fall to Sans’s face, recognizing a momentary look of disbelief mixed with a hint of bewilderment.
Much like Lune, Sans flinches upon meeting eyes with the person he did not think he would ever encounter again... his ex-boss. His hairless brows briefly meet at the bridge of his nose before they part once more, discomfort flaring within the confinement of his SOUL. He was looking forward to this date night, too...
“oh...” mumbles the bald man, his lids hanging lethargically.
“You’ve got a lot of nerve showing your face to me after what you DID-!” The woman shouts, finally stepping up to Sans’s side and slamming her palm onto the surface of their table. “Do you have ANY idea what you did to me?! You and all those other brainless fucking pigeons!”
Lune blinks before she hardens her gaze, eyeing this human with restricted cynicism as she barks at her date of the night. The feline monster’s tail stills its winding movement, lying lax at her side and dangling off the edge of her chair. Now, a persistent agitation scratches at the back of Lune’s mind... likely originating from the white bunny monster grumbling defensively in her subconscious.
What is this human saying? Those aren’t very nice words!
The human woman firmly stabs the table with her finger, glaring down at Sans, whose expression remains rather composed as he gawks back up at his once-supervisor. Her bulged eyes stare at Sans, miniscule crimson filaments snaking into the whites of her eyes, nostrils flared as she angrily huffs.
“You all think you were some righteous gang of heroic icons for getting me kicked off the executive board? It’s not like that company would’ve hurt without those dollars! Ohh, but you ass-kissing saps couldn’t handle getting your feelings hurt every once in a fucking while. Knowing you, you’d have probably needed those bills just as badly as I did!”
“...i was banking on them to fire you sooner cos of that nasty “charisma” you got there. finding out you were involved in some good ol’ embezzlement, though, was actually a bonus,” Sans responds, his smile stagnant, though a devilish color flashes in his eyes.
As much as she refuses to flatter Sans for his dry yet witty remarks, Lune finds herself blinking dumbly—ears unconsciously flattening against her head—a brief urge to snicker at his words rushes through her. Her tail curls with a lively energy, stirring her raven fur on the side of her thigh.
...that was a little funny.
See!
Doesn’t-... it doesn’t mean anything!
Your SOUL did a little flutterrr...
Sh-Shut up!
“You think this is a fucking joke?! I lost everything because of you and your convoluted friends!” The woman hisses, batting her hands through the air. A disgruntled huff flies past her ear, drawing her venomous gaze to the feline monster, whose radiant golden eyes glare back with the same level of venom. “And, of course, you brought your freak of a girlfriend here. I knew only a fucking monster would wanna date an obese smart-ass like you.”
Sans spies a distinct jerk from the corner of his eye, watching Lune defensively twist her head and upper body to face the bigoted woman. Out of concern over how Lune chooses to retaliate, Sans merely lets out a dry chuckle and rests his cheek on his flattened knuckles, peeking up at his ex-boss with one eye open.
“i’m sure you get lotsa dates with that heavyset attitude of yours,” he remarks, cerulean eye twinkling with an underlying mischief.
The woman’s fair toned face evolves into a deep shade of red, streaks of her dark hair fall out from her once tidied hairstyle, framing her face. Intricate wrinkles are etched above the bridge of her nose, nostrils flaring uncontrollably, and her eyes now stretched as wide as they can be—blood vessels visibly peeping out within the whites of her eyes.
“WHY YOU PIECE OF—!”
Sans’s smug smile drops, his fist falling down onto the surface of their table. For a moment, he panics, witnessing the woman promptly turn. He expected a punch or a slap at first... having winced the second she moved. Instead, Sans’s panic magnifies when his attention is caught by the sight of her digits curling around a cool glass of water—beads of liquid garnishing the circumference of the cup. With a wall sitting directly beside Sans, the human male realizes his fate is doomed by a frigid glass of clear water mixed with hints of lemon, raising a hand to his face to brace for the shock.
Creeak—
! SPLASH !
“...”
“...”
“...?”
Keeping his eyes squeezed shut, Sans holds his breath in suspense, knowing he is bound for an impromptu shower... though not a drop of water hits him. Astounded gasps and murmurs crash over the atmosphere like a wave, further perplexing the clean-shaven human, who reluctantly guides his hand away from his face.
“hh-... huh?”
Plip...
Plop...
Plip...
Standing in front of Sans, and effectively taking the cold splash of the water, is Lune. Water seeps into the fabric of her top and skirt, gradually clinging onto her fur, which is now just as soaked. Her fur—saturated with ice-cold water—shines beneath the azure brilliancy of the restaurant, unable to cling onto the descending drops of fluid. Lune’s furry cheeks now sag with an abundance of water adhering to each strand of hair on her face.
Lune’s ears slowly unfold, turning in order to reveal their soft pink skin to the red-faced woman, the golden hue garnishing the tips dramatically dimmed along with her eyes.
Sans’s eyes widen, shock flowing through him and sending him into a state of pure silence. His lips remain parted, but no sound ever escapes him. He cannot summon a single thought. Seeing Lune standing before him, drenched in the water that was intended to hit him, stupefies Sans. He was so convinced she loathed everything about him. Loathed him.
Why take this onslaught for him?
“...” Lune blankly stares at the enraged woman, confining any signs of discomfort within her SOUL. She feels water trickle down every thread of fur on her face until every drop congregates at the apex of her chin, plummeting down to soak into her cream-colored shirt.
“Wh—” The woman stands tall, lowering the glass she tightly clasps in her hand.
Sans shimmies himself closer to the outer edge of his seat, hoping to reach his hand out to Lune. He worriedly lifts his gaze, aiming his focus onto the back of her head.
“lu... -ne...?” He tests his voice.
She slightly turns her head, glancing down at Sans from the corner of her eye.
“...still wondering why I hate humans?” Lune utters, paws now dangling at her sides.
Parting his lips, Sans promptly attempts to give Lune a response, though he quickly finds nothing comes to him at the moment. He merely gawks up at her with wide cerulean eyes, awe written all over his face and deeming him silent. His hand hovers in the air. A pitiful attempt to help Lune despite the fact he wields nothing appropriate to help dry her off.
“...i-...”
With disappointment flashing across her eyes, Lune turns away and starts treading on a path to the exit, abandoning Sans and an eerily silent crowd. Her tail dangles behind her, brushing against the rough texture of the black and blue carpet settled beneath her. Nothing the stout human male at the table says behind her breaks her pace out of the restaurant. Every desperate yell of her name or stuttered “waits” goes unheard by the time she pulls the door open and strolls out into the dark streets.
“oof-!” Sans exclaims as he stumbles out of his seat, practically shoving the culprit of this entire fiasco out of his way only to tread the same path Lune took to leave the building. “ll-lune! w-wait!”
“Wh-?! I wasn’t done-!” The woman yells, stomping her foot as she pivots her entire body on one heel. She curls her digits tightly around the glass, its contents now emptied out.
“O-Oi...”
“That was a disaster...”
“Yeah... and that woman was being totally disrespectful...”
“Hmph... honestly, I would’ve been embarrassed if I were her.”
“Ruining an innocent couple’s dinner.”
“What...” The woman hesitantly turns her head, eyeing the numerous tables of monsters and humans alike. She spies several distasteful looks from neighboring tables, unable to understand why her hands now shake at her sides. “What are you—”
“Not only did you harass them, but you practically assaulted that poor woman!”
“Sh-She’s not a woman! She’s- she’s just a-... a stupid mm-monster! Are you people serious?”
“You should be ashamed of yourself...”
“Ma’am, we’re going to have to ask you to leave the premises. You’ve been causing a disturbance and compelled our customers to leave our restaurant. Please, come with me.”
“WH-?! I didn’t do anything wrong! I was entitled to finishing my personal business! Wh-?! Hh-Hey-! Don’t fucking touch me! Wh-?!” The woman shrieks as two waiters extend their arms behind her and gently guide her to the exit of the restaurant, where she happens to match eyes with Sans, who has a gentle smile spread across his face whilst he gives the restaurant one last glance.
“YOU-! You’ll fucking pay for this! YOU’LL FUCKING PAY, I SWEAR TO YOU-!” The short-haired woman promptly shouts, hysterically thrashing between the waiters meticulously restraining her.
Sans lingers in silence for a moment, observing how furiously his ex-boss flails about between the crowd of people attempting to calm her down. He stares before allowing a smile to stretch across his lips.
“guess you got served anyway, huh?” The short man remarks, slipping his hands into the pockets of his jacket. With a suave mannerism he rarely ever possesses, Sans turns away and approaches the exit.
Catnomaly short fic
(I'll be making more one shots fics because I am so obsessed over this idea. I feel like I'm going crazy if I don't share about this.)
Original anomaly concept by @htsan
Catnomaly belongs to me
Gender neutral pronouns, reader is a kitten, Sans & Reader (405 words)
You don't know how you got yourself here, but the coldness of the air made you wake up- looking up to see how big the world got. You tried to get yourself up but stumbled, looking down to see your… paws? It took you looking at yourself, the ears on your head, a tail behind you- that made you realize…
You've been reincarnated as a cat.
How? What?
You would've questioned your entire existence if it weren't for the surge of curiosity about your surroundings. You weren't going to lie, you were scared to even walk- constantly stumbling and tripping- and it was just so damn cold.
Your… fur, helped protect you from the cold. It wasn't long enough to protect you completely, wondering if you were a kitty instead of a grown cat. If you were just a kitten then… if you don't find someone to take you in, you'd succumb to the elements.
That's when you heard it. Someone biking near you. You'd almost sprinted to them as soon as you saw who it was.
Sans.
"huh."
He stopped to look at you as you approached, mewing. He looked so tall from your view, maybe as time passed you'd grow to match his height more.
"what's a kitty doing out in the snow?"
He parked his bike, stepping off to crouch down to you. He tried to pet you- and you would've let him if it wasn't how intimidatingly large it was. You stepped back, and he stopped. You felt bad for acting that way, so you tried to approach him instead, pawing him.
"are your parents near by? or did they leave you?"
You woke up like this so… parents being involved in your creation seemed unlikely.
"you can't stay out here… i don't think you'd last for long."
You mew, and mew, wanting him to take you to his home.
"aww jeez… i hope papyrus won't mind."
He slowly, and gently, picked you up and put you in the basket attached to the front of the bike. You curled to try and maintain body heat- but hearing him shuffle made you look up to see him removing his jacket. He tucked it around you, making a small warm bed for you.
"let's go to my place, i'll take you to the vet soon, okay?"
His home… you hope he ends up adopting you…
"just rest, lil kitty. we'll get home soon."
