From the book How to Take Over the World: Practical Schemes and Scientific Solutions for the Aspiring Supervillain by Ryan North, which I'm currently reading to my nephew. This part was about genetically modifying a chicken egg to hatch a dinosaur.

Im not defining or defending Alexander the Great and Hephaestion's relationship as modern day romantic or gay, because historical framework was very different and i dont know if they even had the word for romantic love back then that means the same thing it does now.
but for people, in this case Ben Wilson from the How to Take Over the World podcast, to say that because sex wasnt a major part of their companionship is indication that it wasnt romantic makes me sad for this ben guy. like ok this says more about you and how you view love than whatever was going on between Alexander and Hephaestion.

How to Take Over the World by Ryan North; The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, by Bobby Henderson
How to Take Over the World
This book is a bit like the What If books, only the idea here is that the author is delivering valuable scientific information in the framework of helping aspiring super villains take over the world.
Topics range from the best place to build a lair, to how to live forever. There is also a good amount of insight into politics and human nature.
It's very funny and has a lot of good info in it. Not least of which is that a good super villain, when riding a dinosaur-like chicken creature, is unlikely to be questioned.
The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster
I'll admit, I got this one simply because it was part of a two for one sale on audible. I have heard of The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, but I didn't realize that it basically grew out of the author trying to make a point about including Intelligent Disign in science classes.
Taken in that context, not only is this book damned funny, but also brilliant.
It effectively shows that you can find a way to twist (like linguine around a fork)just about anything to fit into a set of beliefs and make it sound kinda sorta plausible, especially if you can talk in an ever wideing circle (... like... like manicotti?) And sprinkle liberally with blarney ( *gasp!* Parmasan! By the absorbent quality of semolina its true! Ramen!)
Like How to Take Over the World, there is a lot of valuable information as long as you read it with tongue firmly in cheek. It surprises me just how seriously some religious people take stuff like this.

April 18, 2022:
This was hard for me. While the humorous narrative voice remains as familiar to me as my own internal monologue, some of the subject matter affected me so deeply I had to stop and play video games for a month or else perish entirely. Still very worth the read. #WhatsKenyaReading

Worked on the same state college project as yesterday. For clarity’s sake let’s call this one the “southern state college” where the one mentioned in October was the “midwest state college”.
Read pages 139-167 of How to Take Over the World by Ryan North
Read pages 16-50 of Backyard Farming by Adams Media
Went to Culver’s for dinner
Played Valheim while drinking some cookie dough whiskey (would recommend)

DP x DC Prompt
…
There are no more heroes.
Well, okay. Rewind a bit.
Danny has been doing the hero thing for a while now. He’s had a big reveal; everyone has accepted him (including his parents), the GIW disbanded, the Anti-Ecto acts repealed, and generally, everything is going great. Some of the A-Listers are even training as junior ghost hunters to help give him a break from his rogues! (Being Ghost King makes things hectic sometimes, and he just needs the extra help. Sue him!)
The point is, literally nothing is wrong with Danny Phantom’s afterlife.
And then Valerie Gray, the Red Huntress, disappears in front of his eyes.
Danny is baffled! She’s just…gone! Valerie just popped out of existence, like she was never there. But no matter how hard he searches in the Ghost Zone, he can’t find her soul anywhere. His core isn't broken in grief. So she’s not dead. Which is good. So then, where is she?
Some of the others come forward with ideas on how to find her. A few ghosts volunteer to go out into the mortal realm, an area Danny had declared off-limits, to see if she was out there. Danny approves it. He rounds up some of the friendlier (i.e., discreet) ghosts and Amity Parkers and demolishes the outside travel ban.
So everyone spreads out, looking for their dear frenemy and teammate. But it becomes apparent very quickly that something is wrong with the rest of the world.
There are no more heroes.
Every single living superhero on the face of the Earth has just…vanished. Villains are running amok; the countries are in chaos! Some aliens are invading Earth, mythical deities are trying to take over, and society is crumbling to the ground. Everything is on the brink of collapse.
Well, Danny was still there. And so were his people. They were pretty spread out, so could they just…take up the mantles? He also knew where to find the souls of dead heroes in the Zone; surely they wouldn't mind coming out of retirement for a little bit, especially if they couldn't die again. Oh! And that skeleton army leftover from Pariah Dark's reign might be useful in repelling those invading forces.
Honestly, there were more than enough hands to go around! And with the heroes gone, Danny didn't mind letting everyone out for a little break, as long as they followed his rules. They wouldn't stop the search for the other heroes, but hopefully, when they found them, the heroes wouldn't mind Danny's intervention too much. :)
In other words:
Someone fucks up, and all of Earth's living heroes are either wished out of existence or are whisked away to some far-off realm where Danny hasn't checked yet. In the attempt to figure out what's going on, Danny lets the dead run amok over the Earth as they search for clues. The skeleton army repels the invading armies, the souls of dead heroes deal with the world leaders, and his rogues and other Amity Parkers set up shop in place of famous heroes, trying to get the cities under control again.
Basically, they just do their best to keep everything from imploding until the Justice League and others are back.
(And why is it that Danny hasn't disappeared? Well, whatever caused everyone to go poof! only affected living heroes. Anyone heroes that were dead in the first place, or even just half-dead, stayed behind.)

Hello there.
[Slides elegantly into the tags]
Do you ever think about Emotion?
Of course you do. How could you not. But do you ever think about this exchange specifically:
“You’re not Adrien!”
Because Adrien is sweet, and forgiving, and kind. In fact, kindness is his defining quality — Marinette herself made sure of it:
“I’ll never tell another boy I love him before I know everything about him! Whether he’s kind or not, thoughtful, what he does outside of school and with who… I’ll know everything.”
But.
Do you ever think about Adrien’s development in S4 and especially S5?
Overtime, he has grown resentful of a system that exploits him relentlessly.
Of the people he gave countless chances to, only to be let down over and over again.
Of the web of lies and half-truths he constantly finds himself tangled into. A web that is only growing bigger, stickier, and trickier to escape.
And the Senticousins. Do you ever think about them?
Do you ever think about how they are each other’s reflection, identical and opposites all at once?
“When you bring a living being into this world, you have a responsibility towards them. Your duty is to protect them, love them, help them discover the true meaning of their existence. To deprive them of that… is monstruous.”
“To have a child is to help them blossom, to grow, to find themselves and to be free!”
Do you ever think about their opposite character arcs in S5 — one learning mercy and trust, the other developing a rage so strong it could destroy the world?
Do you ever think that if Felix can now have this exchange with his mum, and mean it:
“They’re all monsters!”
“Not all of them.”
Then there’s nothing stopping Adrien from saying this:
“Look closer, Marinette. They’re the monsters.”

Big Sis Moon, Five Pebbles, Seven Red Suns, No Significant Harassment
BSM: I have put Ruffles into a little costume! Aren't they adorable!
FP: It is a pleasant surprise to see you taking part in events that used to be celebrated by our creators.
FP: And yes, the costume is adorable.
SRS: Putting our companions into costumes is a nice idea. I think I'll try that as well!
BSM: Oh dear.
NSH: Hah!
BSM: I am going to remove the costume now. Ruffles looks... uncomfortable.
SRS: The messenger looks quite charming all dressed up!
BSM: Aww!
NSH: I've found a costume. I'm gonna try putting it on the beast... Wish me luck...
FP: Shall I join in on the festivities as well?
FP: I doubt I will have much luck concidering the uncooperative behaviour of the Ruffian.
BSM: You should try!
NSH: HAHAHA!
NSH: Look at this thing!
NSH: Agh! It's biting!
SRS: Oh my.
FP: This is not going very well.
FP: It is growling at me very loudly.
NSH: Come on! You can do it!
NSH: Don't be scared Pebbsi ~
FP: You are not helping. And do not call me that.
BSM: Please be careful...
FP: Well then. That did not go as planned.
BSM: Oh no!
NSH: Well there goes the Overseer!
SRS: Perhaps you should refrain from attempting to dress it up again.
FP: I agree.

Lies About Books: How To Take Over the World
Each month on Factually Deficient, my blog for indiscriminately telling lies, I present Lies About Books, in which I inaccurately review a book I enjoyed that month!
April’s review is of How To Take Over the World by @ryannorth! Please feel free to read, enjoy, send me question to answer with lies, and/or share with other would-be global dictators of your acquaintance!

I went to an Ilan Pappé talk yesterdays - I really recommend his books if you've not checked them out already. He's arguably one of the worlds leading experts on Zionism and the "Israel"-Palestine conflict, so obviously everything he said was great, but what I want to highlight:
Someone asked him if he thought the protests and petitions and calling you reps and shit would work, and he said no, it never will. It's still important to do that but the powerful will never surrender their power to the powerless just because they ask for it. Asking the UK and the US to cut ties with their imperial outpost in the Middle East is like asking an animal to gnaw off it's own limb - it won't do it unless its only other choice is dying completely.
So who does have the power to put a stop to this, we asked. The working class of the imperial core. That's us, and we are the most powerful people in the world right now, because this war machine can't function without us. Movements like this can only be built from the ground up, so stop looking to the government and start looking to your community. We need to make it more unprofitable to support Israel than it is to cut ties with it.
This is a call to action. The people HAVE the power, and we have to use it. Yes, that's you. Contact your trade union, your workplace, your school, your church, your university. Your friends, family, any connections you have. As many people on board as possible, with one goal: shut it down. Take direct action now.
