Hey also you know that post about getting better at cooking and handling meat and stuff?
Meat is really expensive and it goes bad pretty quickly.
If you're a new cook and you're trying to figure out how to pan-fry something so that it tastes good, might I recommend tofu?
I'm not saying "treat tofu like meat and try to replace all your favorite meat dishes with tofu" (though, I mean, if that sounds good - go for it), I'm saying "it's a lot easier to practice heating a pan and flipping objects in a pan for a meal and seasoning objects in a pan when the objects in the pan cost two dollars instead of ten dollars."
Tofu lasts a lot longer in the fridge than meat does, is easy to season, and you can easily learn how to pan-fry it into a tasty snack (or main course) and only requires a little extra prep. You can also pretend that the tofu is raw meat (the texture isn't dissimilar) and start practicing for things like how to take it out of a package or cut it on a sanitizable surface, etc.
My favorite way to cook tofu is to press extra firm tofu for at least half an hour (you can get a cheap tofu press for around ten dollars, or you can put it between two plates with some books on the top plate - this is that extra prep i was talking about - tofu cooks best if you press the excess water out), then slice a 14oz cake of it into 8 slices. I lay these flat and sprinkle cayenne pepper, mushroom powder, and smoked paprika on all of the slices, then I rub it in and flip the slices and season the other side the same way. I cook it in a frying pan with a thin layer of avocado or olive oil over medium heat, flipping every two minutes until the flat sides start to crisp up a little. Just before the last flip I add about a tablespoon of tamari sauce (you can use soy sauce, I've just got allergies) to the pan, sprinkling it over the tofu so that both sides get a little bit of sauce on them.
I have that with steamed vegetables and with jasmine rice (with two teaspoons of rice wine vinegar per 3 cups of dry rice and 4.5 cups of water). I also make a honey-siracha-mayo sauce that I dip the tofu in.
It's really good. And now I end up eating leftover rice and sauce with fried eggs for lunch at least two days a week and that's also really good.
This has become one of my go-to low spoon foods because it's so easy to make, it's filling, it tastes good to me, and it has become extremely easy for me to keep a stock of tofu in the fridge compared to the effort of keeping un-expired meat in the fridge.
I find that a 14oz pack of tofu feeds two adults for one meal, though I can stretch that to three meals if I'm the only one eating.
It makes a very cheap, filling, easy dinner that I can keep the ingredients around for without too much concern for food waste or anything going bad (the tofu that I get lasts about a month in the fridge and these days I just buy three packs every time I'm at aldi and cycle in new stock - it costs $1.50 per pack)
If you're interested in becoming a better cook, rather than worrying about actual high-risk products like raw chicken that can be seriously dangerous and also cost a fair amount, tofu has a pretty low barrier to entry while also being a good way to learn on a new ingredient that has some similar properties to raw meat.

How to Use Herbs : Rosemary
Hwello there. We have talked about rosemary and its uses in a previous post. If you haven't read it, please click here: Rosemary
Now I shall provide some spells, tonics, recipes and etc on where you can utilize it. Let us begin :)
Tumblr media
Author's Note: From I noticed a part is usually a teaspoon. You can add more according to your needs, but I would always start with that measurement first.
Alchemist Formula for Binding:
One part benzoin gum (Saturn, binding)
One part patchouli (Saturn,binding)
One part Solomon's seal (Saturn, protective)
One part rosemary oil (Saturn, protective)
One part frankincense oil (Sun, success)
Mental Focus Magical Tea:
I part rosemary
1/2 part spearmint
1 cup of boiling water
Mix herbs in a small jar
To brew, pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 teaspoon of the herbal blend.
Steep for 5 - 7 minute. Strain and drink.
Spells:
Remembrance for Lost Love (Heartache Healer)
6 drops of rosemary oil
3 drops of peppermint oil
1 drop of lavender oil
White candle
Add the oil to the top of the candle, one at a time, in a clockwise direction around the wick.
LIght the candle and gaze into the flame
Visualize your fond memories of the person who left your life. As you do this say, "I thank you for the time we had together, I thank you for the love we shared, I thank you for being an important part of my life. We have parted, we move on, we remember. I wish you the best life has to offer and hope you have found happiness."
Allow the candle to burn out of its own and dispose of the remaining wax away from your home or bury it in the spot you and the past partner enjoyed together.
Broom Cleansing Spell
Use one or any combination of the following botanicals: broom, cedar, fennel, hyssop, rosemary, sage, vervain.
Arrange the botanicals and tie them to the bottom of a branch withraffia, visualizing, charging and knotting. (Any branch may be used, however an ash branch is considered particularly powerful.)
Sprinkle with salted water or any preferred purification formula.
Sweep the area.
Disassemble the broom outside, away from the cleansed space.
Bury the components in the ground or toss them into living waters, flowing away from you.
Ghost Keep Away Spell (Boundary Line Spell)
Place three peeled cloves of garlic in a bowl, together with one handful of sea salt and one handful of fresh rosemary leaves.
Grind and mash the ingredients together.
Sprinkle them to create a boundary, as needed.
Bad Habits Bath
Add the following to a tub filled with warm water:
Essential oil of clary sage
Essential oil of frankincense
Essential oil of lavender
Essential oil of lemongrass or May Chang
Essential oil of rosemary
Enter the bath and inhale the fragrance, and accompany with affirmations and positive visualizations.
Kitchen Witch Recipes:
Super-Quick Bonus Recipe for Gwion’s Red Onion Pickle Bliss
Fills one pint-sized jar
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes, plus 30 minutes to cool in the fridge
1 medium red onion
3 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup water
10 black peppercorns
2/3 cup white wine vinegar,
rice vinegar, or apple cider vinegar
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 sprig rosemary
1 clove garlic, peeled and halved
Slice the onion very thinly and place it in your clean, dry jar. Set it aside.
Add the rest of the ingredients to a medium saucepan and bring to a boil until the sugar has fully dissolved. Stir carefully so you don’t break the rosemary. The sprig is in there to add flavour, and you’ll discard it before the next step.
Let the pickling mixture (the water, vinegar, and spices) cool down for about 10 minutes. Discard the sprig of rosemary and pour the remaining
ingredients into the jar of onions. Make sure all of the onions are submerged
in the picking liquid. If you have to, use a spoon to push the onions down in the jar. Seal the jar and put it in the fridge to cool. The onions are ready to eat once they are cool, about 30 minutes.
Serve them on avocado toast, burgers, salads, or just with a fork straight out of the jar. Remember to kiss your partner or partners before eating the onions out of the jar, unless they’re into pungent kisses.
Goat for a God: Roasted Goat Leg with Grape Molasses
Great for Deities: Dionysus, Pan and Thor
Serves : 6
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 2 hours and 30 minutes
1 goat leg (about 3 pounds)
1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon olive oil
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon cumin
2 teaspoons black pepper
4 tablespoons grape molasses
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon coriander
2 sprigs fresh rosemary
1 cup white wine + one glass for sipping and toasting while cooking (use mead if you're cooking this for Thor)
1 bay leaf
2 large carrots, chopped into
1" chunks
1 celery root, peeled and chopped into 1" cubes
Open the bottle of white wine or mead and take a hefty drink. (This is optional but deities do like when you drink with them but they can respect if you don't partake.)
Preheat the oven to 375° F.
Liberally season the goat leg with salt and pepper.
Rub the minced garlic all over the goat leg too. If it helps, poke a few holes in the goat leg so you can get the garlic right into the meat.
Place the rosemary sprigs and bay leaf in the bottom of a large roasting pan and put the goat leg right on top. Add the carrots and celery root around the edges. Pour the olive oil all over the goat and rub it around. Coat the carrots and celery root too.
Pour the white wine around the bottom of the roasting pan.
Loosely cover with kitchen foil and put the whole pan into the oven for 2 hours.
About an hour and forty-five minutes into the cooking process, it’s time to make the glaze.
Mix the grape molasses—which is a super-condensed syrup made of grape must—in a bowl with a tablespoon of olive oil, the coriander, and the cumin. You can substitute honey for the grape molasses if for Thor.
At the two-hour mark, pull the roasting pan out of the oven and paint the goat with the grape (or honey) and spice glaze.
Pop the goat and veggies, uncovered, back into the oven for another 20 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches at least 145° F.
When you’re ready to serve this dish, scoop the veggies into a bowl (fornow) and put the goat leg on a platter. If you have access to one, get a cedar plank and serve the goat on it.
Medical Tonics and Infusions:
Infusion- An infusion is the simplest way to prepare the more delicate aerial parts of plants, especially leaves and flowers, for use as a medicine or as a revitalizing or relaxing drink. It is made in a similar way to tea, using either a single herb or a combination of herbs, and may be drunk hot or cold.
Pot Infusion
For a cup:
1 tsp (2–3 g) dried or 2 tsp (4–6 g) fresh herb (or mixture of herbs) to a cup of water
For a pot:
20 g dried herb or 30 g fresh herb (or a mixture of different herbs) to 2 cups (500 ml) of water
Warm the pot, then add the herb.
Pour in water that has just boiled, replace the lid, and infuse for 10 minutes.
Strain some of the infusion into a cup. A teaspoon of honey may be added if desired.
Storage:
Store in a covered jug in a refrigerator or cool place for up to 24 hours.
Tonic Making
Standard Quantity:
200 g dried or 300 g fresh herb chopped into small pieces to 1 quart (1 liter) alcohol—vodka of 35–40% alcohol is ideal, although rum hides the taste of bitter or unpalatable herbs
Standard Dosage:
Take 1 tsp (5 ml) 2 –3 times a day diluted in 1 tbsp plus 1 tsp (25 ml) of water or fruit juice.
Place the herb in a large, clean glass jar and pour on the alcohol, ensuring that the herb is covered. Close and label the jar.
Shake well for 1–2 minutes and store in a cool dark place for 10–14 days, shaking the jar every 1–2 days.
Set up the wine press, placing a muslin or nylon mesh bag securely inside. Pour in the mixture and collect the liquid in the jug.
Slowly close the wine press, extracting the remaining liquid from the herbs until no more drips appear. Discard the leftover herbs.
Pour the tincture into clean, dark glass bottles using a funnel. When full, stopper with a cork or screw top and label the bottles.
Storage:
Store in sterilized, dark glass bottles in a cool dark place for up to 2 years. An amber glass jar is the best option.
Sorry this post is so long @_@ But please enjoy and use wisely. Bye byes~

indulgent domestic modern!au clegan headcanons for the soul:
they're both really good in the kitchen!! i see them both as well functioning adults ngl so they both do the cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc working together like a well oiled machine.
bucky's more of the savory cook out of the two of them—I've been so into tinned fish talk on tiktok lately and been busy imagining this man just doing easy recipes for dinner and lunches. he likes making donburi, the air-fryer is his best friend, a risotto recipe he stole from benny's mom, wine marinated steaks, etc. he's the type to have to be in action to be calm so it's pretty common to see him running around the kitchen doing like six things at once.
buck's more of a baker, he has a sourdough starter on the counter and in the refrigerator bucky stays far, far away from. he makes the bread bucky uses for avocado toast breakfasts, cupcakes he shares liberally, dog friendly peanut butter cookies he made specifically for meatball, etc. rolling and smacking thick dough is like a stress reliever for him, so nearing the anniversary of him finally leaving his childhood house, the oven is on near 24/7 and the entire house smells like a bakery. everyone pops by now and then to take home some of the overload of baked goods and offer distraction in the form of chaos—at first by bucky's invitation but nowadays it's like an unwritten yearly calendar thing.
buck's usually in charge of breakfast. he makes fluffy pancakes more often than not, scrambled eggs on toast, always has two coffee pots ready for each of them because they go through it like its water. brady has made some very pointed suggestions on their kidneys, especially bucky's, but gets called out right back on the actual tobacco pipe he still smokes with in this day and age. if bucky wakes up earlier, he makes them avocado toast because he tried it at this hipster cafe as a joke but it's really not a joke anymore now.
they're both morning people it's revolting. when curt stays over he makes it very clear he won't be up before 9 the earliest and fuck them both if they try anything to actually wake him up. they wake him up. there's a guest room that may as well be curt's and his clothes are folded neatly in the dresser.
buck likes cantaloupe, so bucky regularly cuts up the fruit and packs them into lunch boxes for him.
brady shares the same birthday as meatball. so every year without fail, aside from his actual cake, bucky gets an extra plain cake with meatball printed on it with the words happy birthday meatball!! in large letters and a tiny (and brady) under it.
two of the shelves displayed in their house is just full of tchotchkes from all over the world from their adventures. yes there is concerning amount of unicorn statues. buck always looks moderately pained when someone asks about it. among them is a rock that tripped bucky up one random hike and somehow caused him to fall of cliff and get stuck in an outcropping of rocks. air rescue had to be called and he was an absolute nightmare of a broken ankle patient. again, buck always looks moderately pained when somebody asks about it.
they're hemming and hawing over getting a dog which the others find absolutely bewildering and when asked about it they both say its like cheating on meatball, which makes zero sense because the dog is benny's do not even think of stealing him cleven i swear—
they do get a dog from the shelter though!! they get a beagle. no really the dog is literally the bane of their existence they just had to choose the most exuberant 5yo dog with a powdered sugar face that's literally the antithesis of meatball. they name him tomato. benny despairs on how his dog isn't even really just his.
obsessed with the thought of them building their house by themselves like grey's anatomy's derek no hear me out architect!blakely helping them design the house and they have an open plan design which i kind of hate but the image of buck cooking in the kitchen yelling at bucky who's got his feet up on the coffee table oh
they go on these planned little adventures for dates and one of said plans is doing a pilates class together. hear me out: they both suck at it 😭. an hour in and bucky is literally stuck on the machine terrified of moving, he has cramps in muscles he didn't even know could get cramps. he looks to the left and buck is flat on the ground unmoving. they sign up for another class but bring curt into it thinking it'd be hilarious but no curt becomes the instructor's favorite within minutes. they sign up for another class in protest and bring brady and nearly kill the guy from sheer anger. their competitive asses work overtime and somehow end up getting instructor certificates just to prove they could.
the day they discover kahoot is honestly a mistake because when they host get togethers they do little presentations on what they've been doing since they last met and do full on kahoot quizzes and several expensive glasses are sacrificed for the worser worse. 'what was the shirt color of the lady photobombing us in that beach selfie?' and dougie straight up lobs his phone at bucky's face.
some extra casually possessive clegan hcs:
passenger princess buck with bucky's hand always casually draped over buck's closest thigh, absentmindedly playing with the inseam of his pants when they hit a red light
or: buck laying a hand on bucky's thigh to calm him down when some asshole cuts them off, or when bucky starts going past the speed limit, or just for comfort during a long drive
sitting thigh to thigh during breakfast/lunch/in the bar, sometimes even overlapping, buck's arm always around the back of bucky's chair
when they're sitting on high stools, bucky's leg is always propped up on buck's footrest
buck sitting on the only high stool available, bucky leaning by his side with an arm tucked around his hip
this pose of dua/callum insanity. squinting down on a tourist map of madrid for a random trip together, bucky's arms around buck with their heads bent trying to read tiny spanish lettering under the overbearing sun, buck tucking his hand into bucky's backpocket and tugging him closer like that'll help them find their hotel easier
some vacation fun: actually from this post I've added a few to and had brainworms on
the buckies go on a 7 day trip to somewhere with beaches and resorts and spa days and fruity little drinks with tiny little umbrellas and tell literally 0 people. they get ambushed on day 4 anyway.
in every beach outing thing, there has got to be a scene where they do each others' sunscreen. doing buck's, bucky purposefully leaves some parts of his skin unsuncreened on his back spelling out 'I SUCK' with an arrow pointing down to his ass. thankfully buck's blessed with perfect golden skin so he doesnt sunburn like at all.
buck brings a whole rack of books to read while sun tanning, a cute little folded table, cooler, bright towels for mats, and a rented umbrella setting up his downtime perfectly.
bucky leaves him to it for the first two hours because he loves the man: he goes to play beach volleyball with some random people he charms within minutes, saves a kid's sandcastle from being eaten by the waves and somehow ropes the kid and 4 other random children to build a giant fortress with a moat, accidentally step on a few crabs, takes hundreds of pics with other random tourists for some strange reason (they think he's a movie star and he does nothing to dissuade that), does karaoke near the beach bar with several equally enthusiastic drunk people, and pets every dog in his vicinity. he acquires exactly 9 numbers despite telling people he's very much taken, several insider local attractions added to his knowledge, and finds out the dirty sordid underground clubs in the area. all within 2 hours.
he comes trotting back to buck without a single hit to his stamina, and finally starts lobbying for a jet ski race.
in the two hours he was gone, bucky had flirted heavily with the jet ski rental managers, and rented 2 jet skis with a discount he refused and without an actual boating license but he's like really persuasive guys you don't get it. they do know how to ride it though because they're the kind of couple with a terrifying amount of qualifications in their CVs.
buck pretending not to be as competitive as his partner and hemming and hawing about going on the jet ski but the minute the race is on their trash talking gets so loud beach security has to stop by to calm them down.
buck leaves bucky with their kit to get some ice cream and comes back to bucky lounging on the mat. without pause, he kicks up sand directly on top of bucky and buries the man within minutes without giving the man the chance to defend himself from buck's onslaught.
buck sends the 100bg gc a pic of bucky buried under the sand with a coke right beside his head and a straw poking out straight to his mouth for easy access and it becomes the gcs new pfp.
the boys trace their location within days and on day 4 of their vacation they get ambushed in their hotel room and it turns into a big outing. jack scoffs at the buckies' itinerary and types out a new one for their entire group.

idk i just feel like even though im talking to a lot of people no one really shows me any special attention when im funny or talks to me to tell me how much they think im cool in private. its just hard to fee like im reallly genuinely valued in these more casual relationships.
Tumblr media
Use a nonstick pan and a silicone spatula — When scrambling eggs, we use a high-quality nonstick pan. I also love using my silicone spatula since the flexibility lets me swirl and sweep the eggs as they cook.
I only use eggs, butter, and salt — no milk or cream! I’ve never understood why people add extras like milk, cream, and even sour cream to eggs before cooking them. Milk and sour cream water scrambled eggs down and to us, the cream is just unnecessary.
If you use quality, fresh eggs and cook them low and slow (more on that below), you don’t need anything else. Just a touch of salt and a grind of black pepper. By the way, I love scrambled eggs cooked in butter, but I will often switch it up and use a fruity olive oil.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Swirl then Sweep — We prefer scrambled eggs with larger curds than small, but love them to be extra creamy. The moment the eggs hit the pan, I use our silicone spatula to rapidly swirl in small circles around the pan — we do this, without stopping, until the eggs look slightly thickened and very small curds begin to form (this achieves the creamy part). Then I change from swirling in circles to making long sweeps across the pan, making larger, creamy curds.
Don’t Forget About Carryover Cooking — Eggs are delicate and cook very quickly. Even over low heat eggs can go from liquid to overcooked in seconds. It’s important to take the pan off of the heat before your eggs have finished cooking.
Tumblr media
Scrambled Egg Variations
My favorite way to enjoy scrambled eggs is on top of a slice of toast and topped with a few grinds of black pepper, a little extra salt, and freshly chopped chives.
You can also add extra ingredients to the scramble itself. In our dill scrambled eggs, we swirl in fresh chopped dill to the whisked eggs. If you’ve never had eggs and dill together, I highly recommend it.
For a cheesy egg scramble, add soft or shredded cheeses like goat cheese or shredded cheddar to the eggs just as they finish cooking. The heat from carryover cooking will be enough to melt the cheese into the eggs. We add feta to these scrambled egg, spinach, and feta breakfast burritos and love it.

Soft and Creamy Scrambled Eggs
PREP 10mins
COOK 5mins
TOTAL 15mins
Scrambled eggs should be soft, creamy and gently scrambled. A quality non-stick pan and silicone spatula are really useful. It’s important that you use low heat and don’t forget about the chance of carryover cooking. Eggs are delicate and cook very quickly. I like to take the pan off of the heat before the scramble has finished cooking. Give the eggs a few seconds in the hot pan (off the heat) and you’ll find the eggs turn out to be perfectly cooked — not dry, and not too wet.

Olive oil: It’s pretty common (and delicious) to cook scrambled eggs in butter, but olive oil works nicely, too. If you want to give it a try, stick to lighter, fruiter olive oils.

Steve is a picky eater. Not cause he is rich boy and he only accept fancy foods in his mouth, no. He despise fancy food, fish? fuck no, caviar is a big no, oysters and things like that is his nightmare, he can’t eat sushi if is not of chicken strings, avocado and cheese cream dipped on sweet sauce.
He hate meats with thick fat on they side, nerves between the meat makes him puke and have goosebumps, the only view of thick greasy fat meat makes him feel nauseous. He only can eat meat that is lean and cook to medium. Nothing less and nothing more.
Vegetables are his nightmare too. Carrot makes him puke just of thought of that orange pointy vegetable. The crunch sound of raw carrot makes him shiver and the over sweet flavor of cook carrot makes him cry. A lot more after his mother makes him eat a piece of carrot when he was seven, he puked after the first bite of that piece. His father beat the shit out of him for that.
Steve now can only eat avocado and lettuce, the last one with a lot of lemon and salt.
He mostly eat spaghettis, any kind with tomate sauce and cheese, sometimes with meat or sausage on the side. But his favorite sauce is Alfredo’s. He eat white rice, cook in asian way. No vegetables or oil. He loves fries too.
Steve is a picky eater not because he is a rich boy, no, he is a picky eater for how the food feels in his mouth and sense’s, specially for the nose and eyes, he don’t like the smell he can’t eat it, less if he don’t like how the food looks.

then can i have a recipe on how to properly prepare you?
As far as i know, the buttocks of a human are what’s best to eat (because of the amount of meat) but there is no way im letting you cook that.
According to cannibals, palms are the sweetest. So save those for later.
Thighs also have a lot of meat, so maybe they’d make good steak.
So yeah, chop those up and preserve them.
Make sure to wash so all the blood gets cleaned off, and do not cook cold steak.
Pat dry, using paper towels, it’ll ensure good contact between the thigh steak and the pan. Do not over season it.
Use the right cooking oil, preferably avocado oil. No, you cannot use olive oil as a substitute because it has a low smoke point.
Use the right pan at a high tempt, a skillet is best because it can hold heat, ideal for steak. Don’t worry about how often you flip, and don’t overcook it, use a meat thermometer to check temp.
And let the thigh steak cool down before serving.

Strickler headcanon?
Strickler Headcanon!
Ehyy, here are some headcanon about our favorite old avocado:
So, he definitely was a spy infiltrating Germany in World War II and that's how he met Otto.
He loves classical music because it allows him to concentrate, but often he simply prefers complete silence or white noise to relax his eardrums after days and nights of hubbub between school and Janus Order.
When he is anxious or particularly nervous, he tends to click his pen over and over again because it gives him a sense of security.
He loves oil paintings and museums of ancient art, from classical to Renaissance. (+Tries to convince Barbara to accompany him to exhibitions but she is more of a modern art type ((but they still go anyway(≧▽≦))))
He has learned to cook very well over the long span of his life, but there are still foods he doesn't mind eating raw because of his Troll nature.
He tries to suppress his Troll nature and control his instincts as best he can, but sometimes in small moments where no one is around, he does not even notice that he is letting it out in small gestures.
He used to have a tail to fly better, but he lost it in the dark lands in a fight with a Nyarlagroth and had to get used to flying without it. (But to this day he still feels the ghost of his tail.)
He spent most of his life in England, but has lived in many places. (He was born in Italy.)
He loves to take Barbara to decidedly sophisticated restaurants with atmospheres perfect for a date and usually with great views outside.
He loves it when Barbara strokes his hair or scratches his chin, but hates it when she touches his neck because he remembers all the times someone wanted to slit his throat.
His senses of sight, smell and hearing are very refined, but often ignores what he hears so as not to create discomfort in his students.
He is as bisexual as any changeling, but has a great preference for women.
He often has nightmares about the dark lands or Bular's abuse.
Loves basking in the sun but often gets gloomy remembering the fact that he may not enjoy that light forever.
He has an obsession with Napoleon. (Don't ask)

For the OTP asks: Who is more sentimental and who is the better cook?
Ohhhhhh Danny for sure. Like he's got Grace's macaroni art in a big plastic tub w/ a bunch of her other stuff, he keeps every single school photo, etc. Very sentimental when it comes to his family.
I think Steve becomes more sentimental simply from being in one place long enough. His teenage years were uprooted, and then he went off to Annapolis, and then he was all over the place w/ the SEALs. Now that he's got a home, he starts to keep stuff because he can. It's a luxury he didn't have for a very long time
I do think that both of them are pretty good cooks, but in different ways. Danny is very much classic americana, and he's more willing to experiment in the kitchen. Steve knows how to make certain things excellent, and sticks to that. Danny also tends towards carb heavy and fatty cooking, whereas Steve can make the best egg white and spinach omelet this side of the Mississippi. Like Danny uses butter to grease the pan, and Steve uses avocado oil or something.

@avocado-writing’s tav + Charlie enjoying some birthday soup bc it’s their birthday today and mine is in 5 days so!! Soup!! (My actual birthday soup recipe is under the cut)
Tumblr media
Birthday soup
Don’t forget to get silly w it. That’s like, required. It’s your BIRTHDAY (or someone else’s birthday) you deserve to get silly.
I stole this from my mom btw, also make sure you know the difference between a herb and a spice.
Oh yeah also it includes soup dumplings.
Kitchen items:
Big pot w a lid
Cutting board
Knife
Ingredients:
2 tbls Butter
1pkg Stew beef (or chicken hearts, that’s the original ingredient I just don’t like em)
2 medium onions, one diced, one quartered (keep separate)
1 whole head of garlic, minced (jarlic works very well here)
3 cups of stock (beef if you use beef, veggie if you use chicken, do not use chicken stock it fucks up the taste)
3 medium carrots, chopped
2 medium potatos, chopped
1 celery stick, chopped
1/4 head of cabbage, chopped (optional, I just like cabbage an unreasonable amount)
1 whole package of frozen spinach, defrosted (do this in a bowl this shit is WET also keep the water)
Can of green beans (you could probably use fresh, I don’t like fresh tho so, idk)
Can of diced tomatoes
Rosemary
Thyme
Fennel
Mustard seed
Celery seed
Sprinkle of Cloves (ground)
Sprinkle of Nutmeg
5% Vinegar or lemon juice (or your favourite other edible acid, tomato juice would in theory work, lime juice is mid.)
Salt + pepper
1 tbls Paprika
Steps:
Butter in that pot, medium
Spices, add em, leave ‘em until they smell good, it won’t be long.
Beef and a splash of your acid in that pot, cook until 1/4 done
Carrot and celery in that pot, get em hot but don’t cook em too long.
Diced onion, spinach, and paprika + salt n pepper to taste in that pot, med-low
Stir, cover, leave it alone for 5ish minutes
Uncover, add garlic to that pot, cook until it smells like garlic
Stock + the canned bean and frozen spinach water, add it.
Canned tomato, add it.
Potato, add it.
Cabbage, add it.
All them herbs, add em to taste (I use roughly a tablespoon each of em dried, but I like my shit strong.)
Bring it to boil on high
Let that bitch simmer, you may need to periodically add water if he’s goin too hard. (START MAKING THOSE SOUP DUMPLINGS RN IF YOURE DOING THAT)
When the potato is 1/2 done that quartered onion (and the dumplings)
Finish the potato.
Bam. Soup. I like it more cold, but it is intended to be eaten hot.
Soup dumplings
I stole this from my roommate and add em to most soups tbh
Kitchen items:
Bowl,
Wood spoon,
Your Hands,
You could probably do this in a stand mixer but I don’t have one of those so, you’re on your own man.
Ingredients:
2 cups Flour
Water, hot as you can handle touching, volume required varies,
Salt
Pepper
Onion powder
Garlic powder
Whatever fresh herbs you like (dried don’t work here unless they’re ground absolutely tiny)
1 tbls of your favourite liquid fat (I use olive oil, canola and sunflower also work for sure)
Steps:
Flour, into the bowl
Seasonings, into the bowl
Mix well.
Add the fat
Slowly add water, mixing often until you get a slightly sticky ball.
Knead for a bit, I don’t really know how to describe the texture bc I’ve been making bread since I was a kid (and this is just a yeastless bread dough) but its finished when it stops really sticking to your hands (it’ll be tacky, not sticky)
Divide into 1 inch balls
Drop into the soup roughly 30 minutes before it’s finished.
Serve in the soup
Congrats, soup balls.

Dinner Recipe: Chicken Avocado Wraps
Tumblr media
TIME: ★★★★
PRICE: ★★★✰
EASE: ★★★★
CLEANUP: ★★★★
It could be a taco. But it doesn't have to be!
If it's been a hard day, this recipe only has to take as long to make as it takes to cook the chicken. 15-20 minutes tops.
Cut up your chicken (or other protein of choice) and season liberally with salt/pepper/cumin (or taco seasoning if you have it on hand!)
Coat pan in cooking oil and cook your chicken
Slice up avocado
Put chicken and avocado in a tortilla
Done. That's it. That's all it has to take.
BUT! Say you're feeling good! Or you have more easy toppings on hand! Then you can just...add more! Any of these that you'd like!
-shredded cheese -lime and cilantro -bell peppers -lettuce -tomatoes -salsa -beans -corn
And if you're feeling REALLY good? Just make guacamole outright! Make your own pico de gallo! Instead of just chicken, make some carnitas! Make your own tortillas! This is a tiny seed of a meal that has a ton of room to build on and grow! But even as someone who loves to cook? Sometimes I just do avocado and chicken. Boom. done.
At its bare bones, this recipe is easy, quick, and cheap (depending on the season for avocados.) But as you become more motivated and learn more about how to cook and prepare food, this dish has SO much room to grow!
Leftovers: It's super easy to pre cook a bunch of protein and then just use up your tortillas and toppings over the course of the week! Try to finish your chicken within about 3 days of cooking it!

good stuff 1-6-24
had very good coffee and avocado toast today and really liked reading my book
it was maybe supposed to snow today and maybe supposed to snow tomorrow so i made sure to take out all my trash and get groceries instead of like continuing to put them off like i've been doing
i made instant ramen for uhhhhhh the first time? idk i've just never made it and i always see tips for how to doctor it and i've never tried it so today i decided to try it. so i sautéed some garlic and ginger and green onions in some oil and then cooked the noodles in half broth, half water and stirred in some chopped bok choy. and then in the bowl i put some chili sauce, sesame oil, soy sauce, and lots and lots of cilantro, and then i poured the hot soup over it, and it was good and easy! i wanted to try doing something with egg but figured i should keep it simpler the first time and then go from them. it was a very gloomy and dreary day, and ramen was a perfect cozy meal for the weather.
my family asked me to make a gift registry for my birthday, and part of me is INTENSELY uncomfortable at the idea of like, asking people for gifts, like even having the audacity to think people would want to get me stuff lol. but i have also always wanted to make a registry and i have gone to so many bridal showers and baby showers and weddings and housewarmings for these people over the years and i have not had any kind of party for myself since i was a kid, and my kitchen stuff is either garbage quality, secondhand from someone else after they got married, or something i splurged on for myself. it was nice to think about what i would like to have if i actually got to CHOOSE.

Owen has a popular food blog that cheerfully promises 'healthier' versions of traditional recipes. Carlos is an up and coming Austin chef trying to celebrate actual traditional recipes, and he can only get sent links for 'how to make frijoles refritos in half the time with half the fat (hint, the secret is avocado oil)' and 'tamales - the secret ingredient is flax seed' before he starts a flame war. The problem is there's been a confusion and he thinks Owen's name is TK, and he doesn't know that the cute pastry chef at his favorite bakery who keeps slipping him an extra pain au chocolate with his bread order is actually TK. Go.
LMAO LIM YOU’RE KILLING ME.
1. When the first link slides into his DMs from a random anonymous Instagram, pointing to an article on lettuce wraps replacing tortillas for Taco Tuesday, Carlos elects to ignore it — he’s already at war with the TexMex chains and Taco Bells of the world, he doesn’t have energy to answer every armchair chef who thinks they’ve unlocked the secrets of making Mexican food for the health nut masses.
2. Chefs eat terribly, Cheat Days are bullshit, and there’s a reason why Carlos works out the way he does. That reason is carbs. And also, maybe, the guy with the gorgeous green eyes behind the counter at the panadería down the street who bakes bread that makes him want to take off his pants. They make terrible food puns at each other daily. It’s the most comfortable Carlos has ever felt while flirting.
3. He’s not sure what this Tyler Kennedy seems to have against actual flavor, but at this point it feels personal. Several unsolicited links later, he’s barely skimmed a post on using coconut oil in the masa mix for tamales before he’s furiously typing a comment that starts — all caps — IS NOTHING SACRED, JUST LEAVE THE LARD ALONE.
4. One day there’s a number on the side of his Cronut box that he stares at for far too long. But before he knows what’s happening he’s wrapped up in a text exchange with TK from the bakery, swapping stories about his abuela’s recipes and his food blog nemesis and the friction growing up gay in a kitchen has always caused with his father. TK can somehow sympathize on two fronts with one dad, and tells him all about how he started baking with his mom almost out of spite.
5. Carlos has always been fascinated by baking, if a little vexed — cooking is art, but baking is science. TK offers a private lesson after hours. They end up with flour in a few unexpected places, but he definitely learns a thing or two.
Send me a potential AU and I’ll tell you five fun facts that would happen in a story.

Yo, re: meal prep, you got any recipes or resources to share? I need to get workin' out and eat an actual diet of like...food. Might give meal prep a shot myself.
Alright alright alright. so before I go into anything, meal prep will largely depend on what your goals are!
Are you trying to lose fat? Bulk up? Or are you just prepping your meals so you don't gotta worry about cooking later?
If it's just you prepping your meals for the sake of not cooking later, my top tips are:
Choose one meal of the day you're gonna prepare for: Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner
Choose the day you're gonna cook and how many days you're prepping for. I typically prep for 5 days, for example
Choose the meal in question! This can be anything you'd be fine with eating for the next few days.
Once you got all that, I'd recommend you choose at least 1 source of protein and 1 source of carbs. Fat is usually already in the protein, but if you're needing something specific, you can choose things like avocado or olive oil or dairy as a nutritious fat source.
As a quick example, my meal preps are for lunch. Last week I prepped chicken alfredo, so my protein source was chicken breast, my carb source was the pasta (additional carbs from mushroom and tomato), and because chicken breast is relatively low on fat my fat source came from the cheese.
I just cooked everything I needed for that dish on my chosen day (meal preps for me are Thursdays) and portion them out as evenly as I can in containers, and badaboom. Basically home made takeout meals, ready to grab and go!
------
Now, if you're trying to utilize meal prepping as a means to lose OR gain weight, it gets a little more nuanced. And before you even touch your nutrition, you need to know exactly what your goals are when you say you're looking to "work out".
Are you trying to get bigger and stronger? Are you trying to get leaner and shredded? Something in between?
If you'd like advice directly from me I'd need to know a little more, but you're always free to ask me whatever if you're up to it!
But as far as general resources go if you'd like to do your own research, for a simple but very helpful start I'd recommend Jeremy Either's youtube vids on the subjects you're lookin' for. He has an extensive library of vids that talk about and break down anything you could be lookin for when it comes to fitness, such as workout plans, nutrition tips, so on!
You'll likely have to still do some homework for specifics, but he's a great place to get started. :)

Do you/romance novelist Lan Zhan have any recipe recommendations for hotel cooking?
Oh my god, do I ever, I'm so glad you asked!

Hello from Hawaii and my Tiny Travel Kitchen breakfast! 💖
Okay, so the things you need to work out first are where you're traveling to and how long you'll be there, because that will inform your menu planning. I'm currently in Hawaii (!!!) and there's an abundance of good food near me, so I'm really just focusing on breakfast and snacks. When we've gone to Arizona it's for medical reasons so we have to stay in a hotel that is not particularly well located/my wife usually can't go out to eat, so I plan for all three meals.
I'm going to assume the presence of a travel chef's knife, a cutting board, an assortment of seasonings, an electric skillet, an electric kettle, and a mini fridge, so here's a shopping list and some suggestions with that in mind:
Bread
Butter
The tiniest bottle of olive oil you can find
Half dozen eggs
Avocados
Sliced cheese
Easily sliceable fruit
A package of precut sweet potatoes or butternut squash
Microwavable rice packets (precooked)
A bag of arugula or other leafy green
A can of chickpeas
Lemons
A head of garlic
A couple of shallots
Can of black beans
As far as recipes go:
Lean into your Fancy Toast Era! Butter both sides of a piece of bread and fry it up in the skillet. Top with fried egg, avocado, cheese, anything you want! Serve with sliced fruit.
Grilled cheese sandwiches. Serve with a salad made of the leafy greens, sliced apples, and diced avocado, dressed with lemon and olive oil.
Chickpea squash bowl: dice garlic & shallot, soften in some olive oil in the skillet. Add the precut squash and the chickpeas; saute until squash is al dente. Add precooked rice and more olive oil. Cook until heated through,l. Season with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, lemon juice, and incredibly carefully minced lemon zest (if you're an overachiever). Serve over leafy greens.
Burrito bowl: garlic and shallots in the skillet. Add black beans and rice. Season with salt, pepper, cumin and chili powder. Serve with avocado and cheese on top.
That's what I have for the moment, but all of these options are incredibly customizable. Just look for as many precut/shelf stable options as you can and godspeed!
