Six(ish) Sentence Sunday
Thanks @blairwaldcrf and @ssmtskw for the tags! This is technically only five sentences, but there is also some wanton semicolon abuse, so I think it counts.
The thing about Alex is, he’s always ten steps ahead of himself. When faced with a problem, more often than not the solution will come to him fully formed and he has to pick up the thread and walk it backwards through the labyrinthine pathways of his brain’s logic until all the twists and turns fit together; until he understands the steps to take to get himself from point A to point B. He’s always been this way, to the confusion of most people around him and the dismay of more than one high school math teacher begging him to show his working.
The point is, he knows that what he’s looking at is how they get June home safely. He just needs to fit all the puzzle pieces together so he understands how.

I’m fascinated with the op hockey au and ur art that goes with it and was wondering what would the marines be… like would they be refs or rules officials or judges? Like hardly anyone likes the marines and nobody likes rules officials/judges.
asking cause they’re a couple good marines (Koby, Rosinante and Belle Mere)
i mentioned this a little bit in this post but it boils down to them just being generally scattered around sports and sports-adjacent jobs.
i thought mb akainu would be a ref that screws over/directly causes ace injury during a whitebeards vs pirates game; garp works in media (not sports) but doesn't really like the notion that all his kids and grandkids are in pro sports lol; and koby & helmeppo are a rookie espn sports journalism duo (writer + cameraman) that interned at garp's media company for a while before changing to espn (garp was exasperated about it haha). but ye, the marines would be scattered as judges and rules officials and people on the olympics committee, etc etc.
i said nami would be a marketer or mb a sportscaster, so i think it'd be cute if belle-mère did something similar in her day, annndddd idk about cora. i made croc mihawk's manager but i have no idea what doffy would do and how cora would play into all that. would love to hear if anyone's got any ideas tho!

in honour of it being nanowrimo, and my hyperfixation returning with a VENGEANCE, i'm back on my usual bullshit of accountability word trackers.

because this is always fun, a length estimate that will likely be very wrong: i want to guess that this fic will be around 40k, because that's usual for me. i'm also doing this for nano, so aiming to write 50k words, ~10k of which will likely end up in a 'codas and addendums' fic because they don't actually fit here but the scenes want to be written. let's see how that goes!

I want them to have like Pittsburgh Penguins financial problems like they nearly get moved because of it but Bruce turns his owed salary into equity post career and helps keep the team in the city
Philadelphia Flyers style team history though like they won their first cups through physical play not being highly skilled
currently have a monochrome uniform now but everyone likes their more colorful uniforms from the 90s

cheats at face offs because if you're not cheating you're not trying
can use heel to heel for puck protection and can get off the ice on his own if he loses a blade on his skate

I am not a football girlie so I don’t know how long messi going to inter miami has been brewing, but it’s so funny to think about leon’s presence there being completely overshadowed by messi like you can turn the world upside down but you can’t escape fate (playing second fiddle)!!! but not to matthew! like maybe when they meet all the pr people are shoving matthew and messi together like FLORIDA SPORTS! GIVE US OUR SOCIAL MEDIA ENGAGEMENT! and then matthew goes on to only post him shaking hands with leon and leon is like What Does It All Mean
i am also not a football girlie so i also have no idea how long it's been brewing, but i have learned in the past few hours that it was brewing long enough for people to, like, preemptively grab inter miami tickets before the prices inevitably shot up. and good for them!
but anyway: i am dying at the second-fiddle fate of it all. in real life he has connor, in this footballer au he has lionel fucking messi. somehow i can't see him becoming besties with messi the same way he's besties with connor 😂😂😂
the thing is, matthew is such a media-savvy good boy that he would give the correct sound bites about how cool it was to meet messi and post his little insta post about it, but then he would also follow the inter miami account and share the picture of him shaking hands with leon and add as a little caption "this was right before @drat_29 chirped me for my skating ability" but not actually follow leon's personal account (yet) (he'll follow back when leon follows him, which will only be a few days later, because leon is too curious for his own good, at which point matthew will start dutifully liking posts but hold off on starting to leave flirty comments until they actually meet in person again)
