Feeling spicy today...
So you got this "SPN fandom polls" account that gives no shits about any sort of earnest outcome; all they want is to block Sam fans and "win" any poll that frontlines Dean, Cas and Destiel. Like, why not just make all your polls Destiel-centric and distribute only to Destiel shippers, if what you really want to do is pretend Sam doesn't exist?
Oh, wait, it's to piss off Sam fans and start ship wars. Ahhh, okay. What are you? Twelve?
This one is particularly hilaribad, given that canonically, Cas is the third wheel. Literally, anyone that comes between Sam and Dean is eventually third-wheeled, once the show's writers are done with the drama, but Cas was third-wheeled in text. On the show. Like, legit.
We gone done knew that a good chunk of D/C shippers think third-wheeling Sam is adorable. It's all over their fics. But does it really feel like actual success to win a rigged poll?
If you've gotta cheat to win, you aren't really winning. Go write your fics, my babies. That's what they're there for. You're not gonna change canon, as much as you try. Alternative facts? Yeah, nah.

One thing that bugs me is that too many people don't seem to know what writing style even is.
People can generally tell different art styles apart; even if when they aren't artists themselves they can look at some pictures and go "this one is an anime style, that one is realistic, this other one uses large blocks of plain color". And there's a (very stupid) tendency to assume that certain styles are inherently better or more skillful than others, but in general people are able to recognise that art style is a thing that exists and that style varies between artists.
But I don't see the same in re prose. I don't see people talk about word choice an sentence structure in a novel the way non-artists talk about how they like the bright colours or sketchy lines in a painting. I don't see adjectives used to describe the writing itself, the way people describe drawings as "whimsical" or "gloomy".
What I do see a lot of is people assuming "writing style" has something to do with the kind of story being told, and hilaribad writing advice which basically says to strip your writing of all stylistic elements.
It's like someone can pick up a book by Neil Gaiman or Jane Austin or J. R. R. Tolkien and somehow read the whole thing and understand the story and the characters, without seeing anything about how the story is told and why the author chose to tell it the way they did.
I see people complaining that Tolkien spends so much time describing trees, and other people talking about why describing trees is relevant to the plot or significant to Tolkien personally, but I don't see people talking about how he describes trees.

I think a lot of people read a lot of fairly utilitarian prose.
And, of course, everyone thinks they know about writing, so gaps in their knowledge don't occur to them how they would with art.
That said, do people really not discuss this? It seems like the kind of thing that does come up in writing craft spaces, just not so much in non-technical discussions.

I have discovered a Hulu show called "farmer wants a wife" and it is so hilaribad I cannot even. I. It's so fucking funny. The first opening rush of candidates looks like a UGA sorority rush with maybe twenty percent more brunettes in it. Everything is absolutely spotless and shining. The whole aesthetic is a) seamless and b) HGTV Aspirational. It's honestly impressive just as a window into a fantasy that I find totally alien.
Holy fuck one of the women didn't know what "ag sales" were. The whole premise of this show you signed on for is centered around the fantasy of this industry; did you do any research at all beforehand or....?!

New(ish) Comics Day
This week’s collection at DCUI was actually kinda mid for me when I was scrolling looking for stuff to read. (I would like to repeat my rant that while YES it’s nice to see Titans being the premier team could we please get ANY TEAM BOOK for any character under 25 to be on rather than OT/NT Titans book #4??) Nonetheless:
Hawkgirl #1: oh damn this is actually good and fun and this is unfair as I have been trying really hard not to care about Thanagarians. (I now need to read about Kendra on the Blackhawks because if Dinah is teasing Kendra about it it’s probably hilaribad) I don’t know why we have a palette-swapped Kory with a talking corgi, but there’s also a palette-swapped Kory with a talking corgi. Also this is uh a very queer book and I’m enjoying it.
Knight Terrors: Shazam! #1: look I know I have very much been avoiding reading Knight Terrors at least until it’s all over, but also this had Mary on the cover and I’m weak. It’s…fine? Mary’s having nightmares about Billy being evil, fires burning the family to death, danger to her siblings and…eating bugs. Ok, I’m on board with this ‘is nobody writing this event actually good at writing horror?’
Warlord #11: This week’s issue is called Flashback! Travis, Mariah and Machiste get chased into a cave by a Triceratops. So Travis decides to reminisce to himself about how he ended up in Skartaris.
As you may recall, Travis Morgan was a US military pilot who was flying a spyplane over the USSR when he had to bug out to get back to the US really fast. So he flew over the North Pole and ran out of fuel.
Compasses don’t work that way, Travis.
Travis sees some land through the clouds as he’s trying to safely crash his empty plane and parachutes out to land in a jungle. Because he apparently flew in through the hole in the world to the hollow earth land of Skartaris. Ta da!
(Travis explaining his Hollow Earth theory. This man would be radicalised by YouTube so fast…)
Has no water, food, hat, shelter or medical supplies. DOES have a knife and a gun with 12 bullets. Sure, everything you need, Travis. (Travis proceeds to drink straight out of a creek and I hope he enjoys his interesting intestinal parasites)
Anyway, with his gun and 12 bullets Travis Morgan sees a hot girl fighting a dinosaur and since Travis has never seen a hot girl in this series without IMMEDIATELY trying to get in her pants, he rushes off to try and ‘rescue’ the damsel. And wastes half his bullets immediately. What was that about having ‘everything you need’, mate? (The damsel, Tara, did not need rescuing and saw off the dinosaur on her own)
They get captured and taken to see Deimos. Travis uses up his last bullet shooting an orb Deimos is focusing through. In reward he…gets taken by a harem of girls to go have a bath and get changed into a proper Skartaris no-clothes outfit. Tara teaches him the local Skartaris language, and we start the never-ending quest to get Tara back to Shamballah, something Travis forgets he is supposed to be doing approximately every 5 pages.

Agree 100%. Everything that needs to be said has already been said, and one panel freeing up space for Jared to do Walkerverse panels, (fun) and Jensen to do TW panels (hilaribad car wreck) would be a nice change.

This is so true! I was looking at all of the different photo op combinations for Dallas and they're really pulling out all the stops.
Obviously, Misha is being paired with everyone he has the remotest connection with because there's more money for him, but Tom and Mitch? That one especially had me scratching my head. (Yeah, I know they've both played Samuel Campbell, but have they ever acted together?)

Okay so I was straight up making fun of the very idea of this show the other day, expected to hate the whole fucking thing, and, like, do I trust it to actually do a good job with these concepts and characters? No, not yet. I think its reach PROBABLY exceeds its grasp.
Am I willing to retract my knee-jerk “This is going to be hilaribad” reaction? YEP.
Because we have such a good character moment here where we’re literally reciting something by rote, and its so different for each of them, and you can see that in the fucking...2 seconds each of them have. For Tally, it’s this moment of strength and rebellion. For New York, it’s this moment of tradition and pride, her mother looking on. For Country Girl, it’s this moment of intense tragedy, as she quietly cries through the whole thing.
It’s a magnificent touch on what the same thing can mean for different people. What the same duty can bring on someone, how it can be weapon and reward and oppression, all of those things at once.

I wanted to share these hilaribad tags I saw.
The context, which is important, is it's an anti-darklina/alina starkov hate post upset people compare it to f*ysand.
Like look how far out that person goes tagging shit like "anti [my ship] antis" and never once tagging anything that someone who, say, likes darklina would be filtering, like "anti darklina."
The SJM related tags have literally some of the rudest posters you will ever find on tumblr when it comes to tagging who aren't just bots and it's like...even if you had a valid argument, tagging a post like this means no one needs to ever give you the time of day lol
It doesn't even affect me and I still just blocked the person after skimming their (hypocritical, honestly) post.

are you in MN because there's a chicken "rescue" like that too in Minneapolis and I hate it x.x They attacked me on fb one time when I posted pictures of my hens' first eggs - god only knows how often they search "chicken" on facebook and look for local guys to yell at. They're awful.
Woof, I'm not on Facebook but I sure bet they're the same folks. For some months I thought they were the only outfit in town to take city chicken keeping classes with, which I imagined would be an... interesting endeavor, given that I've worked in animal research since 2010.
You oughta check out their website, though, it's certainly... hilaribad. I would not personally emphasize keeping that many birds, especially undiapered, in any house I wanted to live in.
