TL/DR: The bad news: Birdcage au is on hold (indefinitely). The good news: continue reading for short 27 dresses au snippet (working title Here Comes the Groom, which I forgot to include on my list of projects) For @grapenehifics @briliantlymad @yourfavoritefridge and anyone else still waiting on The Birdcage au after Monday's wip ask bonanza (major thank you to everyone who chimed in!! I wrote 1500 words over 6 vastly different projects, overcame two really massive road blocks, started one I didn't have anything written for, and did some major brainstorming) bad news - I think the birdcage au is on hold, perhaps indefinitely. I was working hard to nail down the plot and I don't think it's just me getting into my own head when I say if I'm going to do it I want to do it justice and I'm not really sure where I was taking it is my story to tell. so. I’m bummed but I think this is a case of do it right or not at all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you’re still with me - here is a bit from Here Comes the Groom, a modern au very loosely based around the premise of the movie 27 dresses (I think! I don’t actually remember the movie!)

Obi-Wan is always a groomsman, never the groom. He's the best best man. And despite the constant comments from everyone who thinks they’re as witty as he is during his speeches (they’re not) he’s in no rush to change that status.

Anakin works as a server for a catering company, not a bad side gig for a hopeless romantic. He’s got all the industry connections and everything planned out to make his big day the wedding of his dreams, if only he could meet the one.

Wolf whistles and good natured jeering broke out as the groom disappeared under the bride’s voluminous dress to retrieve her garter. It looked as though she was trying to shimmy and work it down so there wasn’t far to go, but her gown was definitely working against her.

“You couldn’t talk them out of this?”

Obi-Wan was nursing a drink watching the event from afar when Anakin returned to the bar with a serving tray full of empty glasses.

“Couldn’t be swayed. It’s tradition.” Obi-Wan rolled his eyes.

Anakin snorted as he took his time unloading the glasses. “It’s bad taste is what it is. I never even understood - isn’t it weird? Half of the people here are related to her.”

Obi-Wan didn’t disagree. “It’s supposed to be good luck,” he offered.

They shared a wince as the lacy band landed on a red faced cousin. “Gross,” Anakin laughed quietly as he loaded up the tray.

“No garter toss at your wedding then I take it?” Obi-Wan took another delicate sip of his drink, not wanting to rush his excuse to linger away from the ongoing “entertainment.”

Anakin looked offended by the possibility. “Look, I might have it all planned out but I wouldn’t stick to any plan if it made the love of my life want to cry from embarrassment on our wedding day.”

Obi-Wan looked back at his glass as Anakin made his way back through the crowd with fresh flutes of champagne. He frowned and wondered if he was truly the only one not anxiously awaiting their own trip down the aisle. He downed the rest of the contents and shoved back from the bar; it was time for him to put in an appearance.

I literally cannot recommend Here Comes the Groom (1951) enough if you're looking for a movie to watch. Just rewatched it tonight, and I'd forgotten how good it is!

Comedy, romance, drama, music, found family, cute kids, and wonderfully entertaining all round :D

I'm not big on mcyt anymore and Ive made an effort to not mention it on any of my accounts after what happened with the allegations because I had a massive breakdown over it and I needed to take a step back. After it settled I just didn't want to be burned by this interest again but I still follow all my mcyt mutual and like their stuff from time to time.

That's all to say, it's so great to finally close the chapter on that hurt. I've felt like I couldn't revisit my dream interest the way I do with all my past interests and like I was always on a tightrope when it came to finding new communities because people all over the internet hate dream and would not accept me for being as little connected to this community as I still am. I hope now that the video is out and hopefully people will start to see him as more of a person I won't have to feel this weird paranoia like im one step away of being called a groomer supporter for still kinda liking a community that was an incredible big part of my life for two years.

I need to put this into the world, but Gale's abs don't bother me...or more like I can get why they're there for 2 reasons; 1) I've heard enough stories about those who strive for what are essentially show abs to know they can actually be weak af. I had brothers in sports during the 90s, I have witnessed things. and 2) Um...this is darkish, darker?

but I figured he always made his body into what Mystra wanted. With his people pleaser personality, it tracks. Particularly when you see the Drow twins and realize that he is not exactly comfortable with himself and he's uncomfortable with the whole situation. Being depressed for a year pre-game could've made him double down on his needing to look perfect for Mystra mindset in part as an additional form of punishment.

Anyways, fuck Mystra.

This is all headcanon bs and, as a plus-sized person, I am in full support of pudgy Gale and especially post game I have healed pudgy Gale. Let him be fat! And let it be utterly joyful as well!

Tooka au is a gen fic actually titled Gesi Means Peace. In it young padawan Anakin finds a tooka cat, and he learns an important lesson about letting go. Not so spoiler alert: the cat dies. The fic goes back and forth in time of the memory of Obi-Wan guiding young Anakin through the loss as AotC Anakin discovers his mother in the Tusken camp on Tatooine. Also not so spoiler alert: angsty fic with the right ending. I was halfway though writing this when my cat went missing (RIP) so put it on pause but it might be time to come back to it soon. I’m really, really excited for it.

Here Comes The Groom (I think I typed bride but it’s supposed to be groom) only has one scene written but will be great and fun if it comes back into being. Obi-Wan is the best best man, an expert at weddings for someone who has never been the groom himself. Anakin works with a catering company and gets to know him over many many events. Things heat up at the wedding of a mutual friend - Anakin’s ex, Padme.

i’m gonna say something controversial yet brave: people who write mattrey fics with their current age and make y/n a 20 something for no reason other than for self insert reasons kinda piss me off

why can’t you just… not mention age? maybe it’s bc i could never see them date someone so young (assuming they don’t have wives and kids) but what’s wrong with reader being a middle aged woman? or just not aging your character at all?

it’s like adding unnecessary descriptions to your character. you know that meme about wattpad fics where y/n puts her “dirty blonde hair into a messy bun”? people still do that unironically like what if the readers black? what if they have short hair? it’s way easier to just.. not describe your character physically so you can avoid alienating certain groups.
