Word Count: 5.7K
Summary: Once upon a time, in a faraway land, lived two young men. One lived solely to fix heartbreaks, and the other, to bring joy to people's hearts, neglecting his own until it cracked. This is the story of how they met.
In a corner, a young man with a mop of ruffled black hair slowly removes something from a tin of water with a pair of tongs.
“Just a moment…” he mumbles without raising his head, eyes hidden behind brass goggles. He grabs a towel and dries off what Victor now sees is a heart of gold. After a thorough examination, the heart is lovingly placed in an empty jewelry box.
The man turns around and pushes the goggles up his head, making a bigger mess of his own hair, and— Victor holds his breath. Is that how the smith makes his money? Destroying hearts and repairing them later? He’s beautiful. A heartbreaker from head to toe.
Like his shop, he would be easy to miss in a crowd at first. But once you saw it, there was no going back. The eyes made of chestnut and honey, on a face crafted out of an improbable combination of soft lines and sharp angles, none of it is easily forgotten — and all of it could fill a heart till it was fit to burst.

“No!! Let me go!!” Jaden shouted as he pushed against the other, the pain in his chest unlike any he had.
His heart was threatening to give out from the stress but it was also signalling his friends were still out there still in the thick of it!
“My friends are still out there!! They need me!! I have to save them!!”
He tries to run but being held back and his heart going ballistic were stopping him from taking another step.
“Please..: I have to help them...”

He’s abit....taken back, for lack of a better term. He hadn’t felt anyone’s heart so....well, messy was the only word he could think of to describe it. It almost made him a bit uncomfortable, if he’s being honest. He shifts, leaning further into the wall he had been using for support. He was weak, dazed, and takes a moment to speak.
“Hn....Sorry, Could you repeat that?” He asked apologetically, reaching up to fiddle with the ribbon around his neck. “I’m afraid I’m not all here right now.....how long did you say it’s been?” It couldn’t be right - the first war had been over for so long it turned into legend? Sure, he had realized as his heart was calling out that it had been awhile but....but that was too long.

Love breaks the curse
Here is a soul-mate au I’ll probably never write. But the idea has been torturing me for a few days, so I decided to post this anyways. The soulmate concept I used for this is the following: You are born with a curse, which has no affect only towards your soulmate.
Roman and Remus Silver have different versions of the “Amor’s curse”
Roman is cursed to be loved by anyone and anything - until he loves them back. This means he’s always popular, but more lonely than anyone else. Remus’ version of the curse differs quite a lot from that: People hate him instinctively, but only as long as he feels differently. Differently from Roman, whose “charms” just wear off, though, his curse makes everyone he hates love him in return.
Remus doesn’t want people to only like him because of some stupid curse, so he makes a point of repulsing people he cares about as much as possible. He also has a list of reasons why he likes certain people, so that their treatment don’t change his feelings. It’s not really their fault after all.
Roman want to find his soulmate more than anything else, but he would never dare to love anyone again. His heart has been broken by someone’s false claim of being his soulmate one too many times. He doesn’t trust anyone’s words anymore and is too scared to take the first step himself.
Both twins have a lot of self-doubt concerning their relationship as they done know whose curse is affecting whom at the moment. Did Remus manage to make Roman hate him and Roman’s curse makes him love his brother or does Roman hate Remus because Remus loves him? And when their feelings switch, is that because Roman loves his brother again or because Roman’s treatment made Remus hate him now? No one knows, least of all them. That’s probably why they grew apart so much - or maybe the fact that one of them always hates the other.
Janus Masks has the “Janus’ curse” (his parents got real creative with that name, huh?) which means that he has two faces and one behavior ingrained into him that’s connected to the god Janus
Janus is a special case amongst those with his curse, because he can’t switch between the faces but just has half a human and half a snake face at all times. Also because he doesn’t have the need to become a completely new person the next day and leave everything behind, as most do, but simply cannot tell the truth for the life of him instead.
Janus secretly wishes his curse was the usual type for his classification
Janus’ first soulmate is Roman. They only discover then that, without the curse, Janus is actually the worst liar anyone has ever seen.
Roman believes Janus that they are soulmates, because how could someone whose curse is lying manage to lie that poorly?!?!
Virgil Black has a “Fortuna’s curse”, which allows him to see the worst outcome of a situation and what to do to prevent it.
Virgil meets Janus in the library and nearly gets a panic attack. Because for the first time in his life, he doesn’t know what to do to prevent the worst and whether or not the worst is actually happening yet.
Janus and Virgil are, as it turns out, platonic soulmates. No dating involved. They have a hate-love-friendship going on.
Remy Glasshouse is Virgil’s other platonic soulmate.
Remy and Virgil meet at Virgil’s workplace, where Remy wants to buy his daily dosage of “I don’t sleep through the entire day because I have plans”, where Virgil has his second almost-breakdown at talking to a stranger without knowing what could happen.
Remy’s cruse is the “Sleeping beauty’s curse”, which means nothing and no one can wake him up once he falls asleep. Remy and Virgil move in together for obvious reasons once they find each other.
Janus beings over Roman and Remus one day and Remus and Remy bind instantly over being aro and ace (Remus aromantic, Remy asexual)
It takes the two dumbasses three weeks and a strongly annoyed Logan to notice that neither hates the other and that that makes them platonic soulmates as well. They’re elated at the news and become the chaos duo of the group.
Logan meets Janus and Virgil through Remy, who his older brother.
His soulmate curse is the “Mirror’s heart curse”. He knows what he should feel at a certain point in time, but he doesn’t. His heart is like a black void, and he needs to feed on other people’s emotions to fill it with something, like a vampire strictly for emotions.
Logan and Virgil hit it off right away, but he just can’t see why he would be soulmates with Janus of all people? Like, they just don’t mix, he doesn’t understand. And that frustration is absolutely horrible to deal with too. He finally understands why people figuratively blow up some times and-
Janus’ and Logan’s relationship develops slowly, and they are the only ones who don’t seem to notice. It takes Virgil’s help to (finally!) get them together. Logan still refuses to this day to apologize to his brother and his soulmate for calling them idiots.
Patton Heartsmith is the last one to meet the group. And the one with the most soulmates.
Patton’s curse is the “Fae’s curse”. This means that one use of the puppy-dog eyes or the stern father’s voice is enough to make anyone whose name he knows do everything he says.
Patton becomes the dad friend of the group almost right away.
His platonic soulmates are Virgil, Roman and Remy. His romantic soulmates are Janus and Logan. Remus is the only one he isn’t soulmates with, but both of them do their best to avoid curse-based conflicts.
The group buys a house and lives together.
They often get a lot of hate for being “abnormal soulmates” with both having platonic soulmates and more than one. But they don’t care. They care about each other and that’s all that really counts to them.
Since those relationships are kinda impossible to remember, here a chart:
Tumblr media
Yeah… That probably didn’t clear up anything.
Anyways! That’s that. If you wanna use this idea, feel free to. Just tag me, cause I wanna read it then. I might write something about this after all. I doubt it, tho.

Note
My brain just remembered early on in my writings, I had the thought of an OC for the comic known as The Heartsmith... he was essentially an immortal entity who held onto the hearts of those who passed and gave them to the girl who sold hearts.
Aaaaw. That’s really neat actually! o///o
Fun fact! The Heartsmith is what I based Patton in the Sleight of Hand AU on! Though they function a tad differently of course haha. >\\\<💕

Morning Sun, Moonless Night - Preview
A little sneak peek of my fic for @yoifantasyzine! I was blessed to be able to pair up with @tosquinha for it (you can take a peek at what she has in store for you here)! So here it is: a little bit of contemporary, urban fantasy and all of my heart ♥
In a corner, a young man with a mop of ruffled black hair slowly removed something from a tin of water with a pair of tongs.
“Just a moment…” he mumbled without raising his head, eyes hidden behind brass goggles. He grabbed a towel and dried off what Victor now saw was a heart of gold. After a thorough examination, the heart was lovingly placed in an empty jewelry box.
He turned around and pushed the goggles up his head, making a bigger mess of his own hair, and— Victor held his breath. Was that how the smith made his money? Destroying hearts and repairing them later? He was beautiful. A heartbreaker from head to toe.
Like his shop, he would’ve been easy to miss in a crowd at first. But once you saw it, there was no going back. The eyes made of chestnut and honey, on a face crafted out of an improbable combination of soft lines and sharp angles, none of it was easily forgotten — and all of it could fill a heart till it was fit to burst.
“Good morn— uhh, afternoon,” said the smith, squinting at Victor. “Sorry, one second,” he added, grabbing a pair of blue-rimmed glasses lying on the table and putting them on. “How can I— oh” he breathed, eyes widening. Victor would’ve had to be blind to not see the red blooming on the smith’s cheeks, and utterly heartless not to be riveted by it.
The smith hastily took off the safety goggles off his head and stood up, trying to flatten his hair with one hand. “Uhh… hi! Hello, how can I help?”
Victor blinked. “The heart seller outside said you… repair hearts?”
“Yeah, that’s what I do!” replied the smith, smiling through the light pink covering his face. “I’m the heartsmith. What seems to be the problem?”
He gestured for him to take a seat, and Victor was grateful his body obeyed the command. His brain was too occupied with how the lean muscles on the smith’s arms flexed as he took off his apron, and with the flash of ankles showing beneath the rolled up hem of his pants. But when their eyes met again and the smith raised his eyebrows, Victor remembered the question.
“Um… My coach— my boss, he says my heart is broken, and... I think he may be right,” he finished, his voice going low on the last words.
The smith hummed, looking at him thoughtfully. “Okay. Have you felt anything different from usual?”
Victor shifted on his seat. How did one say I haven’t felt anything in years without making it sound dramatic? “Food and music, they… don’t seem the same anymore. Colors, too.”
“Right. And I suppose that affects your skating.”
“How do you know I skate?” asked Victor, astonished.
Red quickly gained on the smith’s face again. “Oh, I’m sorry, I… I’ve seen you. On the ice rink in Royal Square? I thought you wer— I thought it was beautiful,” he stammered out, ducking his head and rushing through to his next question. “So, have you given it to anyone recently?”
Victor’s eyes widened. “What, my heart? No, I… have no one to give it to.”

Smithing Hearts
Day 26 of @tsshipmonth2020 Fluffuary
Ship: Analogince
AU: Heartsmith
Word Count: 1821
Summary: Roman is a heartsmith, the best in the business. His secret is that he puts a little of himself into every repair he does. He doesn’t get anything back, until he receives two orders back to back that are unlike anything he’s ever done before.
(Like listening to podfics? You can listen to this oneshot on my YT channel here!)
Virgil clutched his parcel to his chest, hurrying through the busy streets as his eyes darted back and forth. He was looking for a specific shop, one he had only heard about through hushed conversation. It wasn’t a place he had ever wanted to go to, but he couldn’t deny anymore that he needed help.
A small wooden sign hanging over an unassuming door caught his eye, and he double checked that nobody was watching him before he ducked into the shop.
A cheerful bell announced his arrival, and a young man stood up from his workbench to greet him. He had dark skin and messy brown hair, with a smear of something across his forehead.
“H-hello, are you the heartsmith?”
The young man grinned, taking a small bow. “The best around! I’m Roman, how can I help you?”
Virgil tensed - the cheery smile facing him was overwhelming. “W-Well, I... I’m getting married in a few weeks...”
“Oh, really? Well congratulations! That’s wonderful!”
He swallowed, picking at the paper around his parcel. “Y-Yeah, well, it’s... not all that great, actually.”
He set it down, carefully unwrapping the paper and cradling the object inside. Virgil heard the other man draw in a soft breath through his teeth, and he nodded.
“It’s been like this for as long as I can remember... But the cracks have only gotten bigger in the last few months, and I can’t fix them.”
“I see. May I hold it?”
Virgil nodded, handing his broken heart over. “So... do you think you can fix it?”
There was silence as the heartsmith turned it over and over in his hands, gently prodding at the dark cracks that ran through the very center of it. Then he looked up and smiled confidently. “Of course I can! And not to worry, I’ll have it done before your wedding, I guarantee it!”
“Really?! You think you can do it? But it’s been broken forever!”
Roman shook his head. “I’ve never met a heart that I can’t fix! Stop by in a few days and I’ll have it ready for you!”
“T-Thank you, I will!”
~
Roman got to work as soon as Virgil left. Despite his feigned confidence, he wasn’t sure if he was going to be able to meet his promise. He’d fixed a lot of cracked hearts in his time, but this was something entirely different. The heart on his table now was practically in two pieces, held together by pure willpower.
He could only imagine what Virgil had gone through in his life to cause such sizable cracks.
The heartsmith tightened his toolbelt, taking a seat and getting to work. Nothing would get fixed if he just sat there thinking about it, after all!
His shop didn’t have any windows besides the little glass cutout in the door, so he didn’t know what time it was when he heard the door open again. He’d gotten into a rhythm, fixing the smaller cracks that he knew he could fix before tackling the bigger ones.
Roman stood up from his stool, stretching before turning towards the door and greeting the man standing there. He was well-dressed and standing with his back straight - probably from a wealthy family, if he had to guess.
“Welcome! How can I help you?”
The man cleared his throat, setting a small box down on the counter.
“I have heard you are capable of fixing broken hearts, is that correct?”
Roman raised an eyebrow. “That it is! I’m a heartsmith, it’s my job!”
The man swallowed, his eyes darting down at the box on the table. “Are... you able to fix a heart that has never been able to love?”
The heartsmith blinked as the man reached for the box, taking off the lid and carefully lifting the heart inside it. Roman bit his tongue to keep from gasping - how was it possible for a heart to look so dull?
“It has been like this since I can remember. I always thought it would fix itself with time, but I’m getting married soon and it has not changed at all...”
He sighed, clasping his heart over his chest. A small, sad smile graced his lips as he stared at the empty box, his eyes unfocused.
“My fiancee is such a wonderful person... and I want to be able to be a good husband, but I cannot do that if I’m unable to love...”
Roman tried to discreetly wipe away a tear. He was a romantic, and a sucker for the stories that his customers came in with. “I’ll fix it!”
“Y-You’re sure you can?”
Roman bobbed his head. “Yes, I know I can! Please, allow me to help you!”
He nodded, placing his heart back in the box and allowing Roman to take it. “Thank you.”
“Thank me when you come to pick it up! Come by in a couple days and check on it!”
“I will see you then.”
~
After the man left - he learned that his name was Logan - Roman locked the door to the shop and turned the “Open” sign to “Closed”. He needed all the time he had allotted himself if he was going to fix both of these hearts.
He had to let Virgil’s heart sit - the special glue used in his craft took hours to dry, and he didn’t want to risk breaking it further by handling it before it was done.
Roman set Logan’s heart down on his worktable, spending a minute to observe it. He had seen dim hearts before, during his training with his mentor, but never one as dull as this. Usually, a dull heart was the result of isolation after many years, and only seen in older hearts. But Logan couldn’t be much older than Roman himself, and yet...
Roman sighed, grabbing his tools and setting them to the side, getting them ready. He would be pulling a few long nights to fix it, but he would get it done. He had promised them he would, and Roman didn’t plan on breaking his promises.
~
The heartsmith was practically asleep at his workbench when Virgil arrived several days after their first meeting. The chiming of the door bell woke him up, and he rubbed at his eyes and smiled sleepily at the worried-looking young man.
“Are you alright?” Virgil asked, and Roman nodded.
“Peachy! I was up late working, but it was worth it.”
Roman grabbed his heart and offered it to him, hearing Virgil gasp audibly.
“No way... how did you do this?! It looks like it’s brand new!”
The heartsmith beamed, a hand over his chest. “I pride myself in my work! I promised you I would fix it, didn’t I?”
“Y-Yeah, but I didn’t think... this is incredible! Thank you!”
Virgil stared unbelieving at his heart, tears in his eyes. Roman smiled, but the door opening behind them took his attention as his other customer walked in.
“Oh, Logan, come in! Perfect timing, I just finished your heart as well!” Roman grinned, running to his workbench and making sure that everything was dry and set.
“...Logan?”
“Virgil? What are you doing here?”
Roman blinked, turning around to see his two customers staring at each other with confusion and a little bit of fear in their eyes. All at once, he realized that they were the “fiancee” they each spoke about.
“I... I wanted to... make sure that I could love you... I’ve been in bad relationships in the past, and they’ve left me unable to trust people... but I wanted to be a good husband! Because... you deserve it...”
Logan reached out and took Virgil’s hand, running his thumb along his knuckles. “And you deserve someone who’s capable of loving you!”
“W-What?”
“My heart... it’s never been able to love... I never thought it was an issue, until I met you. And I didn’t want you to know I had come here, because...”
“Because you both deserve each other.” Roman interjected, handing Logan his heart before stepping back. The minute he saw the brilliant red his heart was glowing, Logan started sobbing.
“Aww, L...” Virgil murmured, pulling his fiancee into a tight hug with tears in his own eyes.
Roman could only stand by and watch as they collected themselves, leaving him with a large sum of cash and an imprint of their smiles in his mind.
After they left, he locked the door behind them and sat down on his stool, reaching for his own heart that was sitting there.
If his mentor was still alive, he knew he would scold him for how he handled the tougher jobs. Roman had always been told to guard his own heart, to not let his feelings get in the way of his work.
He laughed softly, cradling his dimming heart close to his chest. It was laced with cracks large and small, filled with golden glue. “Sorry sir, maybe I wasn’t cut out for this job after all.”
~
Roman kept the shop closed for a week or so after he fixed Virgil and Logan’s hearts. He had fallen ill from using his own heart to fix theirs, more so than normal since he had fixed two hearts instead of just one.
He took a walk late one night when the streets were mostly empty. The air was clear, and it helped to lift the heaviness in his chest.
There were a few couples walking in the park with him, and there was one he recognized a little too late.
“Roman!” Virgil waved at him, walking hand in hand with Logan directly towards him. Roman quickly looked around for an escape route, but there were no branching paths and he had to accept his fate and face them with a fake smile.
“You two are out late!” He commented lightly.
“As are you. We tried to stop by earlier this week to thank you again for your incredible work, but it seemed like you were closed?” Logan asked.
Roman scratched the back of his neck. “Heh, yeah, I just got a little cold, that’s all!”
Logan hummed, then he and Virgil shared a glance. “I see... well, there was actually something we wanted to tell you, besides thanking you for your hard work.”
“And what’s that?”
Virgil took a slow breath, smiling nervously. “After we met you... neither of us could quite get you out of our heads.”
Roman raised an eyebrow as Logan finished the thought.
“We were wondering... if you might be interested in going on a date with us?”
“But... I thought you were getting married!”
They both smiled. “We are. But there’s room for one more... if you want.”
Roman had to let it sink in for a moment, but he didn’t take longer than he needed to agree.
Somehow, the weight in his chest seemed to disappear the moment he started walking side by side with the two of them.
