summary : aaron wasn’t always the doting husband, and jack wasn’t always the sweet son- but somewhere along the line they became just that
takes place during : literally anytime you want after haley dies (i like imagining it’s s7 hotch)

it was late. far later then you should be up. but you promised jack he could stay awake until aaron returned home. that was supposed to be three hours ago, and now it was one in the morning and you stood there groggily making bagel bites for your lovely son.
five minutes after the snack was ready, hotch burst through the door, breath heavy as if he had just ran up from the driveway into the small house.
you had moved about two years ago out of hotch’s apartment, finally ready to let go of all the horrors that had gone down there. you decided to move into your childhood home, your parents eagerly ready to part with it and move somewhere warm - like florida.
there was something so soothing to hotch about living in your childhood home. he loved the way he could finally see into your life before you met. hotch was so ready to settle down again, maybe try to re-start the family he attempted to build with haley.
you loved watching aaron sit down at the counter and smile as jack rambled on about your long day. how he had a soccer tournament, and it’s ok that his dad missed it because you were there- and he actually called you his mom. you were ready to cry. then, you two went home and watched two harry potter movies (you now only had the deathly hallows pt 1 + 2, but you promised aaron you’d watch those with him), and then you settled down for the long haul of waiting. jack would never admit that he fell asleep only half an hour before hotch arrived, he boasted that he lasted the whole night.
somewhere along the line, and you definitely weren’t sure when, being aaron hotchners little best friend turned into being his wife. somewhere along the line, jack not even wanting to look you in the eyes became him falling asleep on your chest. and somewhere along the line, tough aaron hotchner who slept in his office and wouldn’t open up became soft, sweet aaron, who’d sleep in late on sunday’s only for jack to pounce on him, and would come home after an unusual disturbing case and just hold you. the wild hotchner you had first met became the domestic aaron who you fell in love with.

I think one of the most insulting things about cis people defending giving JK Rowling money bc "Harry Potter was my childhood!! It made me who I am!!! It helped me love reading!!1!1!" is that these excuses imply that trans people aren't capable of being nostalgic.
Growing up in a Christian household, Harry Potter was considered borderline Satanic. So when my older sister brought home the audiobooks from the library, and I actually was able to read them, it was revolutionary to me. An ostracized kid who is whisked away from his toxic environment and has inherent power and worth? Incredible.
I became obsessed with Harry Potter. I still am able to call up random deep-dive facts about the series bc I devoted so much time and energy to that series. I went to see Deathly Hallows pt 2 in theaters, I put "Slytherin" in all of my social media bios, I had merch, I wrote fanfiction, I had an OC.... Harry Potter meant everything to me.
So when JKR was made known to be a transphobe, it felt like a betrayal. This woman shaped my childhood. Her story made me feel less alone during some of the worst years of my life. And now she's saying that I, and people like myself, don't deserve to be treated with respect.
So enough with the excuse of "Harry Potter was my childhood 😫😫😫". It was mine, too. And now we're adults, and we can choose to stop giving money to a transphobe.

They hyped up the epic nature of this finale, but I legitimately feel like the finales for the other seasons were more epic? Like Season 3’s The Battle of Starcourt was so much more epic! They said “a war is coming to Hawkins,” but that didn’t really feel like a “war.” When I picture a war I think of something like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. 2 where literally everyone’s fighting in the war. Not something where three of the main characters from season 1 (will, mike, and jonathan) functionally contribute nothing. They hyped up Vecna in the end of episode 7 and made it seem like so many people were gonna get vecna’d but then… nope. What was the purpose of emphasizing music if music was only gonna be used to rescue someone from Vecna once? They teased an Empire Strikes Back/Infinity War type of tragic ending, but honestly season 3 was closer to that ending. And there’s literally no reason for Mike’s “true love speech” to be what gives El the strength to defeat Vecna- like even if he loves her romantically and that was convincingly portrayed on screen- that’s such a cop-out and makes no sense. They made it seem like Hopper, Joyce, and Murray were gonna somehow be able to help the kids from Russia only for the writers to be like nope… let’s just skip ahead two days. WHAT HAPPENED IN THOSE TWO DAYS? What happened to Argyle? What happened to any of the foreshadowing from Volume 1? Not just with Byler but with the whole forced conformity is killing kids thing and everything else (it honestly feels like the message was that lack of conformity is killing kids in a way, because like Eddie was the biggest nonconformist ever and then died). There were so many things the first volume clearly hinted at and then seemingly forgot about. This is not about fan theories not manifesting into reality; this is about literally not following through on what was written. Taken at face value nothing about Mike Wheeler’s character makes sense this season. Which we already know. Not my Mike Wheeler and all that. But like beyond him becoming an asshole for no reason, what was the point of all the things at the beginning (his friendship with Eddie and Eddie’s comments about his clothes, argyle commenting something similar)? Even if not canon Byler, it was clearly leading… somewhere? And then they just didn’t address it? What was the point of the entire Utah detour which seemed cool at first but now just seems pointless? Sorry this is turning into a rant and veering from my main topic but I’m so confused?

so originally I started reading fanfic on Quizilla.net (ifykyk) but by the time that got nuked I had made my way onto ff.net! now unlike majority of millennials, i had never read the harry potter books growing up. I was still there at all the book launches and festivies, but I only saw the movies, bc i wasn't hooked the first time i tried reading the first book (bc i have adhd and i was 6 and no pictures). this changed very suddenly after seeing Deathly Hallows Pt 1, I was consumed with NEEDING to read the books. that inevitably lead me to harry potter fanfic - which in Turn! is how i found tumblr!!!
I forget that sometimes lmao, that it was bc an author linked to their tumblr in the notes of their fic that i even found this site, where I've been hanging out for like. 13 years.

omg im crying. i was playing the sims while watching harry potter and i was right at the beginning of the deathly hallows pt 1 and it was that scene where voldemort has that woman hanging from the ceiling and is questioning her and she goes "severus please, were friends" and my sim imediatly goes "grashnaple" and i had forgotten that the sims was running and i thought that that was how snape responded to her 😭
