This week in BL - Gay Boy Turf Wars Galore!

Also, ALL the guest couples: TutorYim & MacNat showed up in Korea. Korea also reused the Love Class pair. And Wayne Song & Huang Chun Chih (H3:MODC) popped up AGAIN. (To be fair, when does Wayne not show up in a Taiwanese BL?)

Ongoing Series - Thai

Laws of Attraction (Sat iQIYI) 7 of 8 - Plot reveals galore + all the penultimate tension we could want. (How many different kinds of smiles does Film have in his arsenal?) OMG I LOVE the unhinged idiot bloody tattooed ex bf - intro music and all. He is my precious psycho-bunny-snookums. Also Tinn, baby-boy, communicating about your honest feelings in a BL? What madness is this? I sense doom incoming. Smart Chan, always tell him he’s better in bed than your ex. The sides getting caught! Noooooo. I mean we knew it would happen but still noooooooo!

I Feel You Linger in the Air (Sat YT) ep 2 of 12 - I like the surreal slip-stream dream-sequence openings. Is it a cerebral examination of temporal paradox or just designed to creep us out? The pace has picked up a bit and I'm delighted that external threat, stressors, and conflict are driving this plot. Refreshing. I love historicals - every touch and action can have such lingering significance, it’s very elegant. Thai BLs can often feel clumsy but not this one. I’m really enjoying it.

Dangerous Romance (Fri YT) ep 2 of 12 - Sailom is great. I love a smartass who’s actually really smart, reminds me of Bai Luo Yin in Addicted. (The real Addicted.) Never a bad thing. Kang is nasty bit of business, I look forward to his redemption arc. I love his grandma. (BL is giving good grandma right now.) Nicely executed narrative twist into sympathy too: rich kid sees how rough life really is. The complexity of character depth needed for this script makes me so happy it's Perth & Chimon, they both have such expressive nuanced faces.

I do keep wanting to rewatch LBC tho.

Only Friends (Sat YT) ep 3 of 10 - It remains a blast. Boston is king of red flags, cutting down Ray because he is the easiest punching bag? Going after his friend's bf just to prove he can? No thank you. I know Ray is lovely when he’s soft but danger zone, Sand. Be careful upon entering a minefield, every little step forward may cause an explosion. I don’t think being master of snark is gonna help you avoid getting blown up.

Sand is the one I feel the worst for - bi guy strays into cesspit of gay toxicity. He ain’t gonna make it out alive.

Hidden Agenda (Sun GMMTV YouTube) ep 7 of 10 - The boyfriends date ep! Zo’s past explains a lot about his behavior. Flirty Zo is v dangerous to all our hearts. Nice kiss. Poor Joke. Meanwhile, the side couple gave good kiss too! However, why is Title playing the bad guy again? Did GMMTV bring him in just to be resident jerk face in all their BL? Makes me sad.

Be Mine Super Star (Mon Viki) ep 8 of 12 - This should be a 8 or 10 ep show, 12 is too many. I think I just don’t like the lead couple's character dynamic and personalities. (No shade on JaFirst.) Side couple went startlingly high heat allasudden. And while their sex scene was good, I wish Daddy and the Hot Doc were being given a lot more script, screen time, and character dev. Sigh. I guess I just wish they were the mains and the others were the sides.

Can't have everything, I suppose.

Wedding Plan (Wed YT & iQIYI) ep 6 of 7 - Nuea is a saint and next week everything comes to a head (that didn’t already get head this episode). Trash watch here!

Love in Translation (Sat iQIYI) ep 2 of 10 - The side couple is everything. They are so cute and my favorite trope. Plus hugs with neck kisses! I love big brother using his adorable boyfriend to try and help his annoying little brother’s business. It’s just perfect. Unfortunately, that annoying little brother, is too fucking annoying. I remain largely unable to watch the main story arc.

My Universe (Sun iQIYI) 1 of 24 eps - Sampler pack BL, 12 pairs, each pair gets 2 eps, so this show will run all the way into 2024.

First installment is Casanova Begins. Dead boy wakes up in his enemy’s body, 2 years after his own death. Has to make things right with the boyfriend who thinks he was abandoned. Everyone has secrets. No one can be trusted. And the dead kid can never tell anyone who he really is. It’s … different? Unique take on the My Ghost Boyfriend trope.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Jun & Jun (Korea Thur Viki) ep 6 of 8 - Random moment of TutorYim. Hi cuties. Simon is my favorite, I love him and his flirty irreverent ways.

Who does he actually like?

Or is he just flirting with everyone?

Can he have a crush on anyone but himself?

He’s a house cat among the pigeons. Clearly wouldn't know what to do with the bird if he managed to catch it. Or would he?

The 4 boys dodging around each other and re-shuffling is so funny. I can’t tell you how delighted this show makes me. I do feel sorry for Lee Jun, he’s just the toy everyone wants to play with. I understand his frustration, do any of them really want him or is it all because the others are interested? Kiss! Yay! Good kiss! Even more yay!

Stay By My Side (Taiwan Fri Gaga) ep 9 of 10 - Poor baby doesn’t think he’s good enough and is holding JC back. They are THE CUTEST BOYFRIENDS. It hurts. The sappy.

Kisseki: Dear to Me (Taiwan Tues Viki & iQIYI) eps 1-2 of 13(?) - From screenwriter Lin Pei Yu (We Best Love, H3: Trapped) formerly known as Miracle, features a student doctor forced to take care of a gangster. I love the premise and like the writer. This one could be sad. Never forget Taiwan will go there.

Shall we get tucked in?

Gay boy turf wars! Main couple is cute. Sunshine gangster (turns out to be a sweetie who cooks) meets broken brilliant tsundere student who wants to be a doctor. Side couple is the leader of the gang and his rabid Pet. Also, all praise the guest couple de jour (baddies). Nice to see you 2... again. All actors are clearly having a blast with this script.

Triggers for knife play, child abuse, lingering trauma.

Love Class Season 2 (Korea Fri Viki) eps 5-6 of 10 - Aw guest couple from Love Class original, that is very sweet. The tutor and returning student, aka couple 3, are the best. So funny. But the whole thing remains engaging in a messy way.

Why R U? (Korea Wed iQIYI) eps 1-2 of 8 - Oh, it’s very odd. Certainly a lot more comprehensible if you've already watched the Thai version. As with that version, I still dislike the SaifahZon couple and love the FighterTutor couple. And once again I hate the weird IRL shipping sister. HATE HER. I’m not mad at the "Man who Fell into the World of BL" overtones but I wish they went at it more intentionally. (They’re not using NPC the way I would, are they? Cause that’s hella cruel.) MaxNat are fun. I love that Fighter went to his girlfriend's birthday party, didn’t even say hi to her, picked up her drunk bestie, and took him home.

This show is WILD. It’s very Korea tries to do a Thai BL. And, I gotta say, I kind of like the absurdity of the whole scheme. Do I think it will ultimately "work" as a stand alone piece? No. But as a very odd kind of parody? Sure.

Minato's Laundromat Season 2 AKA Minato Shouji Coin Laundry Season 2 (Japan Thu Gaga) ep 7 of 12 - Truth always comes out in hot springs. It's a rule of life. Coming clean is coming clean, I suppose. Still, moving very slowly for me and I need sake to get through this season. It's certainly suffering from sophomore slump.

Stay Still (Hong Kong Tues YouTube) ep 4 of 5 - Sad episode is sad.

Dinosaur Love (Sun iQIYI) ep 9 of 10 eps - Didn’t drop this week? MDL thinks it should have. Everyone is confused. But also… who cares?

Low Frequency (Thai iQIYI) Finished it's run - NO SINGING as flirty boyfriends they very cute actually, but this final ep was V E R Y slow.

All in all this was not a great show. Classic pulp with an interesting twist on “ghost boyfriend investigates his own not-murder” but ultimately not very good in any arena. 6/10 Only if you have nothing better to do.

Sing My Crush (Korea iQIYI) Finished it's rerun

This a cute coming of age drama around music and 2 kinds of self acceptance and actualization journeys. This was basically Korea’s version of About Youth, and was perhaps a bit too soft and ungrounded by comparison, like a marshmallow sculpture. Sweet but somewhat lacking in discernible flavor. Inoffensively unmemorable. 8/10 RECOMMENDED especially if you enjoy KBL's style

8/24 Man Suang (Thailand movie, domestic cinema release) - historical drama about Thai burlesque with KP’s MileApo. Do I know where to get it? Nope. Do I care? Nope.

9/27 Absolute Zero (Thai iQIYI) - from 2021, Studio Wabi Sabi and New Siwaj finally bring us this “time loop to prevent tragedy” romance. We don’t always get HEAs from them, so I'm on my guard.

Dead Friend Forever ep 10

I'm not sure how much I buy this version of events by Phee. It seems...too easy. But maybe it's because that would mean there is/are no other person/people involved (i.e. Non and/or Keng and/or White) and that would be disappointing. Nah, I'm holding out hope that this isn't the actual true events.

Yes, that IS the head of another person there with Tan and Top!

So Phee really did tell Jin everything...and then Jin admitted to posting the video...and they're ok with each other. They've found some 'comfort' in both being as bad as the other I guess.

I hate (LOVE) that I can't tell what is real/truth and what is part of the revenge plan 👀

So Fluke is finally including himself in saying 'we' hurt Non. *insert growth!gif*

How can they always act so cool about being in the middle of nowhere in the woods. You can literally die by being lost and walking in circles.

Again, I still don't know why Jin needs help to walk when it's his shoulder that's hurt 😂 It's like these actors and acting coaches have never been injured in their lives to know what it's like.

I don't think I've mentioned this yet but I can't stop thinking about how the end of their film is Jin running alone out of the house, implying he' a lone survivor, so I wonder if we'll get some kind of subverted parallel of that at the end of this nightmare for them all (which I don't think will be the ending of the series but I might be wrong - I don't watch horror so I don't know what 'beats the show needs to hit').

So everyone knows who's who and what's been happening (sort of)...and of course Fluke goes for the gun, which I guess needed to happen to take focus away from the Tan/New revelation.

Of course Top can just stand up 🤦🏽‍♀️ Aaaaaand he's dead? Just from one shot to the stomach? (The severity of gunshot wounds vary greatly in bl -> we had Chart survive two shots to the back yesterday and Vegas survived multiple shots to his torso a few years ago but Top just keels over and is dead just like that? Oh! unless the gun has no live bullets but the drugs are making people think the gun/bullets are real???).

Well, I guess I’m continuing to make these now! Here’s the next part of my thoughts on every Magnus Archives episode! Now, last time I said that I was planning to write about episodes 21-40 in the next post, but as it turns out, the hyperfixation has set in and my thoughts are a LOT longer (so buckle up if you want to read this), and I also reached the tag limit. So, I’m only going to be covering episodes 21-30 here, and then I’ll write about episodes 31-40, and this 10 episode trend will probably continue for the rest of the posts, but that just means I’ll be able to put them out faster.

Also, unlike my first post, where I wrote all of my thoughts after finishing episode 20, all of these ones were written right after I finished the specific episode I talked about, so my thoughts are a lot more clearly documented. Finally, there’s a link to my masterpost, which will contain all the post’s detailing my thoughts on every episode before and after these ones.

Once again, no spoilers for future episodes please, and for anyone who hasn’t watched up to episode 30, spoilers are under the cut, so I recommend turning away until you’ve caught up. :)

- Episode 21, Freefall 🪂

Statement of Moira Kelly, regarding the disappearance of her son Robert.

WHAT THE FUCK??!! MARTIN??!! DAMN, I guess the horrors did get to him! Well, it’s nice to finally meet him, even if his first line was dropping shit on the ground. Either way, I get the vibe I’m in for a wild ride for this second half. ….What was I talking about? Oh yeah, the actual statement. Anyways this one upset me. Not only did it bring out my fear of heights pretty well, but the portrayal of a grieving mother who can’t comprehend what happened to her son was really heartbreaking. The line “The sky ate him” was kind of comedic at first, especially with Jon’s following reaction (love this guy btw, he’s such a loser), but then it became really horrific when I realized how it was just Moira desperately trying to make sense of the impossible horrors she just witnessed. The plot thread set up with Simon and Harriet Fairchild is also very interesting, and the whole sky thing kind of reminded me of Dominic’s visions in Ep. 4. Overall another one of many fantastic episodes, but HOLY SHIT I’M SCARED.

- Episode 22, Colony 🔦

Statement of Martin Blackwood, archival assistant at the Magnus Institute, London, regarding a close encounter with something he believes to have once been Jane Prentiss. Statement taken direct from subject.

….aaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Ok let’s start from the top. Firstly, I’m really happy we finally got to meet Martin in this episode, and he’s great! Honestly he comes off as more dorky than stupid, and just comes off as a real sweetheart, so Jon’s distaste for him (outside of very different personalities), gets more mysterious. Though all things considered, after what he experienced, I don’t think that the bullying is his biggest worry anymore… Alexander J. Newall does a fantastic delivery, as much as I love Jon’s readings, you can really feel how terrified Martin is here (also “Blackwood” is a sick as fuck last name, and I related to him trailing off about spiders…) Outside of Martin himself, we have Jane Prentiss (or what remains of her) and…well, let’s just say that I don’t find the sex worms nearly as funny anymore. Jane and the worms inside her are absolutely terrifying, and while I would say I’m excited to learn more about her, I wouldn’t be complaining if the institute staff never had to deal with her again. Also the text episode made me, if you’ll excuse my language…squirm. Honestly, this might just be my favorite episode so far. The way that the plot threads from previous episodes connected here was extremely satisfying, and needless to say, I’m very excited and horrified to see where the show goes from here.

- Episode 23, Schwartzwald 🇩🇪

Statement of Albrecht von Closen, regarding a discovered tomb near his estate in the Black Forest.

Worst episode ever because Jon didn’t do a German accent, smh. Ok but in all seriousness, I really liked this one! It wasn’t the strongest in terms of complex themes in my opinion, but it had a great vibe, and was still very interesting, entertaining, and decently creepy. Having a “statement” written before the archives was founded is a really cool idea that’s executed perfectly here, and while we didn’t learn that much about Jonah Magnus, I still found it cool to get a first glimpse of the archives’ history. (Also, given the eye imagery that appears both in here and in other episodes, I can’t help but feel like Albrecht’s wording of Jonah having “good eyes” or something like that is a little weird…) And…now that we have the instance of something that isn’t a statement, but is important being in the archives, I absolutely agree with the idea that Gertrude Robinson organized these poorly on purpose, so that Jon would get the knowledge he needed to have. Regardless, this whole episode had the vibes of a classic ghost story, which while not as weird and off-putting as some of the other horror here, was still a nice change of pace overall. The descriptions of The Schwartzwald were really well done and added to the atmosphere, and I just like the fact that we have another historical episode, that’s also set outside of The UK. Also, the way that they played with the time period at the end was amazing, I already had my suspicions due to the eye imagery, but the reveal of Mary Keay (and therefore Gerard Wa- I mean Keay) being a descendant of Albrecht was still really cool. I also do wonder if the Arabic book was eventually found by Jurgen Leitner in the future…eh, food for thought. Lastly, I loved Martin jumping in out of nowhere, it was both funny, and a grim reminder about how fucked the archives supposedly are, yippee!

Wow, these are a lot longer than my previous thoughts. This, my sweet children, is a phenomenon called “brain rot”.

- Episode 24, Strange Music 🪆

Statement of Leanne Denikin, regarding an antique calliope organ she possessed briefly in August 2004.

Jon, honey, are we not going to elaborate on the fact that one of ✨the horrors✨is literally inside the institute? Like, HELLO? That’s not terrifying at all! Anwyays, this episode continues the trend of making me scared of things I’m not initially scared of, yippee! It had great vibes as well, the weird shit in the attic was made to be as creepy as possible. Initially, I didn’t find this one to be too scary, and figured it was going to go in the direction of “music makes people feel kind of weird”. AND THEN JOSHUA GETS KILLED AND TURNED INTO A DOLL HELLO??!!! Like, I know he was kind of a toxic boyfriend, but DAMN, whatever was behind the calliope and the dolls did NOT have to go that far. (Also until the end I thought he might be Joshua Gillepsie, and like, I don’t care how toxic he is, but you do not dump a guy who bested an evil coffin with his freezer.) Outside of that, It was really cool to meet Sasha! I like her voice, and the introduction was quite funny. (Also, even as someone who has lived in England for over two years, and has a family that is 90% British, nothing hurt more that Jon’s “Americans”.) Lastly, I have a theory, which I like to call “Ringmaster? More like cult leader.” Because I’M SORRY, but you cannot convince me that a CIRCUS, called THE CIRCUS OF THE OTHER, which possessed a HAUNTED CALLIOPE ORGAN, is anything but a cult. (Watch me when I’m inevitably wrong lmao.)

I guess now is a better time than any to say that I’m kind of wondering if there’s an in-universe reason for the music in the background? I mean, considering that the whole framing device is Jon recording these statements, I have to wonder if there’s a reason for the noise we hear, especially with the worms in Ep. 22 and the music in Ep. 24.

- Episode 25, Growing Dark ⛪️

Statement of Mark Bilham, regarding events culminating in his visit to Hither Green Chapel.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I LOVE BEING RIGHT!!! I saw the episode title and immediately assumed this would continue the lore of Episode 9, and I WAS SO RIGHT!!! (Also, I now just noticed that the PCOTDH’s symbol is a closed eye, while The Keay Family’s symbol is an open eye…my cult theory thickens…) Anyways, this was another very enjoyable episode! Firstly, even though it’s far from the first piece of media to do so, I though the way they portrayed a cult brainwashing someone when they’re most vulnerable was very well handled and pretty depressing. I also really enjoyed how the episode isn’t the most weird and paranormal on it’s own, but the knowledge of the connections to Ep. 9 makes us know that it DEFINITELY is, even when the characters in the story don’t. The episode was certainly very spooky, the description of the spinach and the dark church definitely got me. (Also my mom came into my room briefly and when she left she accidentally turned off the light and I nearly screamed.) There were also some really interesting plot threads set up here, like the chanting of the northern most human settlement in the world, the mention of “three hundred years waiting”, and I also wonder if “Mr. Pitch” is an alias for “Detective Rayner.” then…the ending. Holy shit. You know, maybe I DON’T need to know what happened to Gertrude….

Episode 26, A Distortion ☕️

Statement of Sasha James, assistant archivist at the Magnus Institute, London, regarding a series of paranormal sightings. Statement taken direct from subject.

I…what…I don’t even…we are so fucked. Ok, there’s a LOT going on here, but I’ll try my best to formulate my thoughts as clearly as possible. Firstly, this episode easily scared me the most so far, I agree with Jon when he says that the horrors being somewhat friendly is scarier than them being antagonistic, like HOLY SHIT this one was unnerving. But with that out of the way…uh…let’s talk about Sasha! She’s really cool, I like how her character gives us a lot more insight into what working in the archives is like for a fairly regular person (i say this because Jon is weird as fuck and Martin is too nice to be normal, and I mean that as kindly as possible). But…while I don’t necessarily doubt her status as the most level-headed person in the archives, I don’t think that’s saying much. Like, she saw a creepy guy with weird-ass hands who spoke in riddles and knew too much about her and her coworkers, and followed him into a dilapidated building, also she works at the council of ghost stories despite not liking horror. Like, no offense, I’m sure she’s overall an intelligent person, as are most people in the archives, but none of them are beating Joshua Gillepsie anytime soon (yes I’m still thinking about him.) But mentioning the guy with fucked up hands, WHO OR WHAT EVEN WAS THAT??!! I have very little ideas as to how this “Micheal” even connects to the greater picture. I know some people connected him to the mentions of the man with bones in his hands in Episode 8, but that honestly reminds me more of the Leitner in Episode 17. Outside of that, his name is quite interesting, I initially thought that he might be Micheal Crew, but given that Sasha doubts it being his real name, I have my suspicions (although it would give us a connection between this, the words in Episode 8, and The Boneturner’s Tale….hm….) However, I could absolutely see him being Micheal Keay, as he gives off enough ghost vibes to pass as him (and I’m assuming that if Gerard’s dead, Micheal is as well.) Also he is not described as having a Lichtenburg figure on him so…yeah. Lastly, we have the return of THE SEX WORMS. And as happy(?) as I am to see that The Magnus Archives, a podcast developed by RustyQuill.com, that is also licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License, is continuing it’s message of staying abstinent, all things considered, that was absolutely terrifying. I just LOVE the knowledge that the worms are a hive-mind and that Jane might not be the source, I LOVE THAT SO MUCH. In conclusion, I am probably going to sleep with a fire extinguisher tonight, and I am very scared for what the next 14 episodes have in store for me.

Also I guess I’ll mention Tim (the archival assistant, not the dead guy) here because why not. So far I’m getting major bastard energy from people’s descriptions of him, which means I will either love or hate him. Also I found it very funny but also kind of sad that Jon said he only trusts Tim to not prank him in Episode 11, and then he pulled a prank shortly before this statement took place.

- Episode 27, A Sturdy Lock 🔑

Statement of Paul McKenzie, regarding repeated nocturnal intrusions into his home.

Ok, after everything that happened in the last episode, it was nice to get a short and sweet one here. Well, as sweet as an episode of a horror podcast can be. Overall, this one isn’t my favorite, I thought it was a little bit under the standards of creativity for the show as a whole, but that’s obviously not saying much, as it was still pretty damn good in its own right. I think it was definitely very effective with its storytelling, and credit where credit is due, it certainly brought out my fear of weird noises in the middle of the night. And even if I can’t personally resonate with this aspect of it, I do really appreciate how it tackled the idea of mental illness at old age, and while I’d be surprised if the statement wasn’t real, considering where the show seems to be going, it did a very good job at planting seeds of doubt in my mind. But still, it was genuinely pretty crushing how Paul had no proof throughout the entire thing, along with how the cops treated him. It really did make me thing about what would have happened if he hadn’t washed the blood off his hands. It still had a creepy atmosphere, and the reveals at the end were pretty interesting, I hope they show us Marcus’ statement soon enough. Also, the aspect of loneliness in this one did remind me a lot of what happened in Episode 13, so I wonder if there’s some connection there. (Also, I love how I’m 27 episodes in and Jon is STILL roasting Gertrude’s organizational skills.) So while this one isn’t the most interesting for me, I still enjoyed it, and it was nice to have a slightly lighter one after Episode 26. I hope Sasha had a good few days off, she deserves it.

WHOA THAT WAS SO GOOD!!! Ok, I feel like I should start off with my thoughts on the basic premise, as while those episode is certainly…not the most humorous in its execution, the premise itself kind of is. I don’t know why, but I just thought the idea of there being an in-universe competitor was a really fun concept that was executed perfectly here. It kind of reminds me of something like Hatchetfield and Clivesdale (I don’t know how many people reading this will understand that, but there seems to be overlap between TMA fans and Hatchetfield fans, and also like, shut up, let me indulge in my hyperfixations.) The bickering between Melanie and Jon was great, as was Melanie herself, I’d love to see her again as I think she oddly brought a lot to the world of the series. Although I will say that, while it doesn’t make me like him any less, Jon’s reluctance to buy into statements is a lot more frustrating when there’s another person in the room. I also absolutely love the fact that there’s an in-universe spooky podcast mentioned by name, like, come one, that’s genuinely hilarious. But comedic value aside, this one was definitely pretty creepy. In a similar vain to what Episode 23 was doing, the whole “young people enter creepy abandoned building to film stuff and then get genuinely scared” concept felt evocative of other classic horror stories, and the way they spun it into the context of the show was great. The atmosphere was definitely very creepy as well, as I have mentioned, hospitals creep me the fuck out. And lastly…oh my god, THE CONNECTIONS. So, I’ll start off by saying that all of the skin shit reminded me of what happened in Episode 18 (which I hope is true because I think some connections to other things would make me like that episode more). But that pales in comparison to the fact that we have stuff on THE ANGLERFISH, HOLY FUCK THE ANGLERFISH. I’m SO glad that they didn’t throw it away just because it was in the pilot episode. In retrospect, I think that the story of Episode 1 isn’t quite my favorite. It doesn’t really have to be, as I think the main draw of the episode is getting a first look at the framing device and general vibe of the entire podcast, but the stories didn’t really grab me until Episode 2, which is still one of my favorites. But MAN, this episode really made me appreciate the setup at the beginning so much more, and the knowledge that the people who walked into the alley didn’t necessarily die, meaning that all of those names could potentially come back, is SO exciting to me. In fact, when you consider that Sarah was kind of going through what looked like a possession, I wonder if The Anglerfish is a figure of worship in a cult, if that theory is to be true. (Also I have relatives that live in the same area as Sarah so…maybe I should tell them to watch out for their neighbor lmao.) So yeah, this…this show is just really freaking good.

- Episode 29, Cheating Death ♟️

Statement of Nathaniel Thorp, regarding his own mortality.

I should start off by saying that I love the episode title for this, like, it’s not even metaphorical, the guy literally cheated in a game against death. Well, anyways, the main thing that caught me about the episode was how it absolutely blindsided me. While I was right about the soldier being the same as the statement giver, which I think was supposed to be obvious, everything else in those last six or so minutes left me with a wide-open jaw. (Also, can I just say that I love how poetic this guy just…decided to be? Like, I just love it when the statements really show of personalities with the way they’re written, and it comes with a cool framing device.) Regardless, I initially assumed that it was going in a very traditional line. Nathaniel cheats death, becomes immortal, and regrets it in modern day because he’s lived longer that he really should have. That, combined with the fact that “Death” didn’t seem like the one of the more creative horror monsters in the show so far, had me so prepared to just write this one off as one of my least favorites (once again, not like that’s saying much.) And then the twist comes and HOLY SHIT I WAS WRONG. The idea of there basically being multiple grim reapers at the hands of some unknowable power, who have to gain successors to finally die themselves is absolutely terrifying and extremely clever. I tip my hat to you Rusty Quill, you did a great job at fooling me. Kind of funny considering how this is a story about being punished for your hubris (which seems to be a recurring theme???) I have a few other small thoughts as well. Firstly, I can’t help but shake the feeling that Nathaniel Thorp was an actual revolutionary war soldier, but I can’t find anything online other than the character from this episode. Also, the fact that his fate remains unknown makes me think he’ll show up again, as it seems weird to NOT end the story with confirmation of his death, given the themes. Secondly, a lot of the…less than pleasant imagery here definitely reminded me of Piecemeal and The Boneturner’s Tale. I don’t remember the story inside that Leitner very well, but I might check just in case there’s any parallels between it and this statement. (Update: Not really.) And finally, I was just a little bit intrigued by the fact that we learn no one who was working at the institute in 1972 works there anymore. It’s probably nothing, but given the mysteries surrounding Gertrude’s death, I’m just a little suspicious, both in general, and of Elias because he’s still around. Overall this episode went hard, I’m still kind of stunned by what it pulled off.

You know what, Jon is right, there’s a lot of meat in this show. Not that I’m complaining, I mean, it does fuel my obsession with connecting the dots between statements. Regardless, while this isn’t among my favorite episodes so far, I still had a good time with it. The reason it’s not one of my favorites is purely personal, as I don’t do too well with animal violence. Like, as much as I do really appreciate how viscerally Jonny Sims can describe the statements, I will admit that the opening minutes describing the slaughter house made me more uneasy than the actual horror, and not in a particularly fun way, but it was overall fine. Speaking of the actual horror, that was actually pretty good. The endless hallways lined with doors that lead to precarious situations also kind of tapped into a personal fear of mine, but in a more fun and digestible way. And while the idea of “imagine humans being slaughtered like animals” is something I’ve seen many a time before, it was still much more well executed than many other interpretations of the idea (*cough cough*, peta) and there were also plenty of other interesting themes and ideas, like how the episode touched on the inherent horror of working in a job as gruesome as the killing floor, being enslaved to said job, and the idea that maybe we’re all just walking sacks of meat in the end, and nothing more. As for some other thoughts, I was definitely creeped out by Tom Han, I’m not sure whether or not he’s someone who spreads ✨the horrors✨or someone affected by ✨the horrors✨, and his sudden disappearance was certainly…odd. On top of that, it’s admittedly haunting to know that there’s still creepy stuff going on at the slaughter house, and that this isn’t something that happened to David, and only David. Overall, a pretty good episode, I don’t have much to say about it, but it was a fun time overall.

I should have my thoughts on the final episodes of Season 1 out in due time, and while I’m sure it’s obvious, I’m absolutely hooked on this podcast. It absolutely has the potential to become one of my favorite things ever if the overarching plot becomes more involved and this is coming from someone who up until now, wasn’t all that gripped by podcasts. While I’m a little sad that I’m as late to the party as I am, then I remembered “oh yeah, I was in elementary school when this horrifying series came out”, and I’m also hopeful that I’ll be able to be around for The Magnus Protocol while it’s airing (I know it premieres in like a week but still.) Hello! I'm jumping on the appreciation train to say thank you so much for all of your meta and analysis! I just found your blog today, and you've already given me so much clarity and context for things I've been noticing in the CR fandom lately.

I quite literally spent my summer living under a rock (in the woods leading spelunking for scouts!) and so was completely out of the loop from early June through September. And while I am not yet caught up (I'm about to start ep. 65), I have been going through the tags and ao3, because I primarily engage with fandom through fic and I don't care about spoilers. And I can't help but notice that everything being written for c3 lately is just... monochromatic. The Hells have such interesting characters and premises. One would think they're ripe for creative and interesting fic. And yet even what little gen fic that I have seen since returning to civilization has largely been boiled down to reiterative mush with vaguely shippy overtones. I can totally see this being indicative of the cresting and waning of the Imodna and Callowmore shipping you've been discussing.

I've gotta ask though, is it really just shipping that is causing this problem? Or is there something else in the source material that you think could be affecting fic in particular?

This is the first time I've been in a fandom with ongoing source material in over a decade. I'm used to watching people beat dead horses in their own little corner, safe in the knowledge that I can block them and it isn't going to affect my experience in the slightest. I guess I'm just having a hard time believing/remembering that shipping can be this incidious.

So a couple of things: first, I was not heavily involved in fandom until Critical Role; I have a decent amount of background knowledge from being on Tumblr and because I do tend to look into/research this kind of thing because it's very interesting to me, but you will probably have better snapshot of what fandom looked like 10 years ago than I do. Second, fanfic has always been a tiny aspect of what I've engaged with and I do find the bulk of it to be dull and samey (which is why it is a tiny aspect), so again, you probably are a better judge of the quality of fanfic elsewhere.

With that said, as part of a much larger discussion of which I only have as mentioned pieces of the puzzle, I do think there's been a shift over the past decade or so of like...people expecting the source material to reflect fanfic-y desires, and resenting it when it does not; people not seeing the point in enjoying non-canon ships; and a broader theme of self-infantilization. This has to a small extent spilled over into published fiction, though thankfully there's plenty that isn't that. It's not just shipping (though that absolutely can be insidious to the point that people have been harassed and doxxed over it); I think it's a general taste for pablum that has been growing within fandom spaces.

I'll link a few posts I've made and a source that, while I cannot vouch for it per se I did read and found enlightening at the end but I think a really indicative example as of late was the fandom response to the show Good Omens (spoilers for Good Omens S2 in the next link if you are by any chance avoiding those). Obviously do not do anything obnoxious to the person who wrote this question, but there are a worrying number of people in fandom spaces who believe this unironically and uncritically: fiction exists to "save us from hurtful reality." And I do understand that the tumultuous politics and world events of the past decade are probably a factor; but I mean, have you looked at literature from the first half of the 20th century (or like. the second half, for that matter)? It is, in my opinion, only going to help put our modern world and issues in better context and honestly make you feel better in the long run if you read, say, The Great Gatsby or The Things They Carried instead of burying your head in lower case song lyrics ... (hurt/comfort, fix-it, happy ending, 6k) and like, to be clear, I have written a small portion of lower case song lyric-titled fics myself but most of them aren't terribly happy, and even so, god I'd be horrified if that was all people were reading.

We've seen it across fandom at large with the polls; I have not watched season 2 of Our Flag Means Death in part because I've realized with horror that this mentality has swept, plague-like, through that fandom; people are acting like having a canon queer ship on a small premium cable show in 2022 is world-changing and unprecedented while also kind of ignoring everything that isn't the central ship (including valid criticisms of how this takes a real-world plantation owner and turns him into a goofy fop, how there's precious few female characters and none in the main cast, and how the actually far more groundbreaking nb character is pushed aside in favor of the core M/M ship). Spoilers for Good Omens again (sorry in advance, Good Omens 2 was a realization point for me how deeply and widely this rot has set in in some places and I have a bunch of sources of people being like "guys stories require conflict and tension to be good" in response to the overwrought moaning that the story wasn't unambiguously happy) but this is another author responding to the "the desired endpoint of all fiction is obviously to have your ship living in a small house together in bliss and anything else is torment" mentality.

In addition to shipping another factor is, I think, people overidentifying with characters and as such being reluctant to actually put them through any sort of hardship, however minor. I recently reblogged a post about the origin of the concept "Mary Sue" and it led me to read a bit about its history, because it was in fact created by women. It was a woman in the Star Trek fandom who was sick of spending money to buy fanzines (pre-common home internet, let alone pre-Ao3) only to find the vast majority of the stories to be this "here is my self-insert who is perfect and beautiful and pure and every other character thinks she is the greatest even if that's entire OOC". It was a frustration with the abandonment of the characterizations in the original work. And that's true today - I have read a popular Imogen and Laudna fluff fic to see what the deal was and it stripped out so much of their premises and characterizations it was unrecognizeable as them but for the hair colors and occasional cringeworthy attempts to replicate Southern US dialect - but what was notable is that those people were at least being honest and writing OCs (though to be fair a lot of them were also young white teen girls and the only woman in TOS was black and that was probably also a factor). Now, you get people who cannot tolerate any analysis of characters that is less than flattering because instead of having an OC, they are identifying so strongly with, for example, Imogen or Ashton, that they cannot separate out the real character or understand this is not an attack on them (or, to be blunt, as someone who sees some of my own worse traits in both those characters, a necessary critique). It's not shipping, but it is that same "fiction should only ever be a soft blanket or a flattering mirror, never a dark mirror and certainly never a door" mentality.

I do place a little blame on fanfiction itself; I think having something that is roughly made to order and tells you exactly what it is up front means people start to think that is the only way, and that's why we have people claiming Chipotle is the height of cuisine while making gagging noises at the authentic Mexican restaurant except for fiction. I think fanfiction can be great; it's fun to write and I have read some great pieces. But a lot of it is mush and formulaic and as that Mary Sue history points out, always has been.

So anyway, to Bells Hells: I think past campaigns also had a lot of dull fanfiction; I think the Nein lent themselves more to poorly written angst than poorly written fluff but yeah a lot of that was really samey and bland in its own way. Fanfiction has always been formulaic to a degree but I think we're starting to see the generation of people who really have read more of that than like, books, and sure there are shitty books, but man there's a LOT of shitty fanfiction, and increasingly, I find that shitty published books are bad because they're too much like fanfiction. [If I get the chance today I have a post I want to write about the ignorance of fantasy tropes in the current fandom which I think is also driving some of this and which I alluded to in my post about shipping; like, I feel the almost automatic but oddly thought-free resistance to gods and fate and the 'right' way to respond to a tragic backstory comes from this ignorance; this also is a case in the D20 fandom when they've dipped into sci fi.] Shipping definitely is a factor, and I think again C3 has an influx of fans primarily here to ship in that "my ship must become canon and must 'win' for some arbitrary definition thereof" which is probably why so much of the fanfic sucks, but again, this is a larger self-infantilizing and entitled mentality that goes beyond mere ships.

A bit more of a revised opinion on David lol

I did my intial thoughts post a while back but kinda realized that my initial impression was so different than how i see david now.

i pretty sure this has already been said, but yeah David's reveal is not really a reveal of true character but rather feels more like a breakdown in who he is

Now yeah, he definetely has got a flair for the dramatics but honestly, i think it makes sense why david would want to play up his cynical viewpoint to a cartoonish level like we see. But for all of his life, he's been playing a role that it seems he does not believe he actually deserves (as his hidden quote may allude to deep self hatred), so for once, david is truly acting out how he believes he really is

essentially, the reveal was not him being a liar, it was a reveal of how he believes himself to be a liar.

Not to mention ... and maybe this is that same denial i was saying before ep 11 that maybe david has the hopeless child secret but ... his motivation just doesn't add up to me.

His "mask" initially slipped in the prologue where he spoke about wanting to be in bed and not deal with people or wanting to come to hope's peak. Idk about u but that just feels like just being an introvert. Maybe a bit of a bitchy introvert lol but nothing that is a manipulative liar who wants to watch everyone kill each other for ... uhh ... shits and giggles???? I truly feel he is acting the part that his secret is.

So what exactly is his secret referring to as manipulative?? I think i agree with hu when i said its phrasing (For example, arturo does not seem as heartless as his secret ambiguously makes it seem, clearly very affected rather than how the secret implies callousness). I think the secret is really just referring to what his talent is. It is what we all guessed initially: He manipulates people, aka "inspires" them. He may just have the ability to manipulate using his words, but he has so far put that to good use.

But i think david never sees it that way. I recall seeing a few posts commenting how david must feel guilt/grief over the death of xander and arei, since he had gotten close to the both of them before their death. And i think that guilt is being amplified with arei's death:

A lot of people point to David's slip in ep 10 as either a sign of him being a good person or a bad person, as his way of talking can be interpreted as either.

(To recap, those who claim this proves this shows his truly good nature point out that he is truly upset abt the death of arei and he is showing his true distaste for the killer, something he wouldn't have said if he had wanted arei to die and didnt care for her like he said in ep 11. However others can mention how david speaks abt how she was in such a vulnerable state to be killed and his creepy smiling sprite sure doesnt help)

Personally i am leaning on the redeeming side, as i think david feels that arei's death proves why he's such a manipulator. We now know of the conversation (or really only a part of it judging by how arei is never answered) was likely when David first learned of his secret about him being a manipulator. David is completely silent, shuddering and unresponsive. I think that he may have at first viewed Arei as his usual routine of lifting someone up, but when we see arei actually hug him, he is caught off guard. And once he hears arei herself saying she really wanted to change for the better, david may have felt he did one good thing. Only then, arei reveals her knowledge of his secret and David is at a loss. Now, the one person who could have been helped by him now realizes his words are as hollow as he believes. So when arei begs david to respond, he cant seem to muster any words.

So when we see how he talks in ch 10, it is his own guilt and anger at himself combined with his grief to arei's death all muddied together. He had been able to help someone, but its because arei had put herself out there - a positive change he triggered - and got herself killed, david blames himself. After all, he can use people however he wants. So if they become worse off, he believes he is the reason behind it.

personally i want a more redeemable version of david since i just dont believe his supposed motivations. they just dont add up!!! moreover, with it being obvious he is not the killer, david has to now live with a supposed chapter 3 with everyone well aware of his "real" personality, so i wonder how david would feel about now actually being treated like a villain rather than a good person like he has for most his life. It might force him to realize that he might actually not be as bad as he thought he was, so maybe he'll slowly try to work up good faith with the group??? I think David has been trapped between two extremes: His morally good outward persona, and his self hatred making him believe he is irredeamable. So maybe david's development is him learning to gain a more nuanced look at himself :)

Or maybe he'll just die in chapter 3 lol and have an unresolved arc :'))

OH YEAH :3 i'm curious. what are your favorite parts of v-force/2002? i'm personally big on the digital sacred beasts (or atleast, that plotline from yuya onward, the first 15 eps of the season are kind of a blur to me) and.. ok i can't say zeo's plotline was pulled off Well but i love zeo as a character they are SO fascinating to me.

Well my favorite plotline from the season itself would be Zeo's one, while if we're talking about vforce as a whole then the movie's. The movie had a interesting plotline, and revealed a lot of info about the sacred beasts as well, though not everything was fully disclosed, it seemed they were heading somewhere with it but with grev sorta diminishing the presence of the sacred beasts I think it was dropped. Oh, and the cave scene. I....have a lot of talk about that one, I'm a bit too crazy and delusional about that particular scene to the point it'll need a separate post if its own (if I ever overcome my social anxiety and copy paste everything here)

Zeo is definitely one of my favorite characters in vforce (its the hair that started it I swear I want his hairstyle so bad) and surprisingly he was like one of the things I vividly remembered from my childhood when I was rewatching the series (now that I think about it, my fuzzy memories of beyblade as a child were mostly 60% vforce, 30% season 1 and 10% grev. Mainly because i think i missed a lot of grev as a child when it was airing and mostly caught onto the other two seasons). And yea while i do think if like the writers would've been given more time Zeo's arc along with the other arcs wouldn't have been so rushed, but still i think they did a good enough job, because I was definitely hooked during the final arc. Zeo is also an interesting character to analyse, like he was like first character to give the team a sense of normalcy because throughout the entire season everyone they had met was out for their asses and they couldn't catch a break nor could they have a normal beybattle like they used to without significant consequences. Also wished we got more of Zeo's existential crisis, how it affected and changed him and how he recovers from it and accepts himself (we see in that slideshow final ending in grev with Zeo looking through the window holding a violin. So it seems he found comfort in his hobby). Also that Zeo finding out about his true identity also helped him grow and mature in a sense (a person can't grow up without having to endure hardships, can they?). Like when we see him later on he's stronger and smarter.

Like here Zeo knew exactly what to say to get under Takao's skin (and Takao's emotional attachment to Zeo amplified the impact, along with Takao still trying to grasp as to why Zeo is doing this) and that Zeo is right here in a sense. They didnt interfere due to multiple justified reasons (they wanted to, but couldn't. And even if they did, not much would've changed), but it didn't change the fact that they didn't do anything, and Zeo just rubs some salt on the fresh wound. And in the jp voice acting, while it was faint, Zeo kind of sounded sad when saying "no one will come to help you". If we think about the situation Zeo is in, its....true. no one really can help Zeo even if they wanted to, all they could do was offer words of consolation and comfort. And Zeo was doing all this for self preservation (and I guess daddy issues, Dr. Zagart is....incredibly questionable), but deep down i guess he knew that there really wasn't much he could do to become human, become the 'real' Zeo who died long ago. He just didn't wanted to live his life as a phony, it was all just an act of desperation (just look at him breaking his arm and still going on, isn't that a good example?). And like at the finale while Takao does offer closure to Zeo, the fact remains the same that Zeo can't become someone else and must learn to accept who he is, which he slowly starts to embark on (and if Takao, or anyone really, would've said that earlier it wouldn't have had the same impact, Zeo needed to find his way on his own terms)

And as to the impact Zeo had with his words on Takao, he's literally repeating Zeo's words here and musing over the complicated and conflicting scenario for the majority of the episode while everyone is rightfully shocked to see it coming out of his mouth, not really aware of that little exchange he had with Zeo previously.

All in all I love Zeo, I love the small moments where vforce really gets to shine, I just wished they got more time to expand and explore the entire storyline they were working upon into like two seasons instead of dumping it all into one season. I am, uh, understandably kinda crazy over this show and won't stop overanalysing it. This post is pretty much word vomit and probably doesn't make much sense. Uh. Bye.

911 Lone Star Rewatch: 1x09

Wow, I'm actually getting caught up! Everyone should be very proud of me!

Alright let's get this show on the road. Time to wrap up season 1 with these next two eps.

I do want to start this off by saying that I had a dream about lone star last night. Like not a dream that involved lone star characters or anything, but like a dream that I was watching lone star. Anyone know what stage of hyperfixation that is?

The 126 and I are of the same opinion regarding gender reveal parties.

Captain Judd!! The first captain Judd episode wow.

Oh wow, baby TK with his little firetruck. So is the insinuation that Owen gave the truck to TK for his birthday present and he like just opened it after Owen got there late? And he and Gwyn are fighting in the other room now about him missing the birthday. Honestly, I feel very bad for all three of them in this scenario. Like they all went through a major trauma--obviously Owen had a much more up close encounter with it--but they are all still very much recovering from it in December of that year.

Also I'm upset about the fact that this should cannot decide how Gwyn's name is spelled. My closed captions for this ep have it as Gwenyth. But later episodes have it as Gwyneth. I'm pretty positive Gwyneth is the correct one.

"Come meet my boy". Kill me. God Owen and TK's relationship destroys me. And I also love that he tells Zoe that TK looks more like his mother. Cuz he definitely, definitely looks like Owen. Like he does also look like Gwyn, but he's certainly Owen's spitting image. So I love that Owen says he looks more like Gwyn because of course that's who he would see in him. He wouldn't see himself, he would see the woman he loved(s).

TK asking so earnestly if Zoe is his doctor is just so good. "You brought a date?"

TYLER KENNEDY STRAND. "oh that poor kid" SIR. STOP. YOU ARE DESTROYING ME WITH YOUR BIG GENTLE HEART.

Also love that as soon as his initial questions are answered, TK immediately wants the details about 'hot babe' Zoe.

Also I definitely think that after Owen asks him about the cop, they do indeed have a conversation about it. Because in episode 10 when Carlos comes to the firehouse, Owen makes that comment about 'how many decisions did you make today'. So I think he was very aware of TK not being sure about things with Carlos before then.

It's funny that Marj is shocked by the idea of TK coming back so soon after being shot. But then of course after she gets shot in season 4, she's back like immediately.

Oh wow I forgot that we meet Judd's dad this season!! For some reason I didn't think it was until season 2!

Okay but Owen is right, TK did look uncomfortable on that couch.

Oh noooooooo. Not the cave call. Getting stuck in a cave is like at the top of my fear list. I would literally never go spelunking. I would have a panic attack as soon as things starting getting narrow.

I FORGOT THIS KID'S NAME IS KEITHAN. I apologize to any keithan's and loved ones of keithan's, but that's gotta be the dumbest name I've ever heard. Why do we need to Frankenstein Keith and Ethan together like that. (I just looked it up and 6 million people named their baby Keithan in 2023... why)

How many siblings does Judd have? I feel like he's said a number before... but I can't remember. I know that he's the youngest. Does he have three brothers? Or is he one of three?

Poor Paul. Just wanting to help and getting torn to shreds by that little boy. I love that this is the story that he tells Asha on their date.

TK calling Zoe is just so silly on his part. Like he's at home, spiraling, and he just decides to email Zoe's university email. Which is objectively hilarious. Like "my dad's new girlfriend is a psych prof. she will know the answers."

'I guess there is my BOYFRIEND.' yeah that's right. your boyfriend. soulmate. future husband.

Buttercup perking up as soon as TK walks in makes my heart swell.

MY GOD. Listening to Owen talk about his experience as a lifeguard, saving the little girl's life. And that being the reason that he decided to quit law school and become a firefighter..... like knowing what happened to his brother. GOD. GOD.

"BUT YOU ARE MY KID" (a lot of all caps this episode. I'm feeling a lot.)

His little smirk when he asks Colt if he likes cops. I see you, TK.

Oh yeah the space station!! Solar flare ep is up next! (and it's the finale!! crazy)

(also no Michelle?? except for that tiny scene at the start)

10/10. And I know I say that for every episode. But honestly... this one might be the favorite of the season.

Behind the closed doors, Heeseung were on his phone texting with none other than you. It has been nearly 2 weeks now since you've known each other, well atleast through the fake profile which consists of your older sister's picture. You were now laying on your bed, giggling at the boy's cute texts towards you which was a complete change of demeanor from the day you start texting with him.

The moment you saw that notification, your heart jump in excitement mixed with a bit of fear since you were just trying to mess around with random people from the app. But it's too late now isn't? As you opened the chat, you expected for the boy to give you a text but there was none. Well it was expected, since you were the one who made the first move. Scoffing, you typed on your phone's screen, starting your little game with..

10 minutes passed, it felt like the guy wasn't interested at all or was it just you who were just too excited to play your little games of fooling around? Then a notification pops up.

Hee_01: As far as I'm concerned, nope.

What a dry ass text, you chuckled. This would be fun, this was just a mouse-cat game for you as you so just wanna break that cold demeanor of this guy behind the screen.

Heeseung chuckling at the text, it was quite cute, he thought. This girl seems funny, but he had another plan he wanted to try when another text message pops up.

Seeing his crush's text, he smiled. Then your text pops along with Sakura's message getting his attention back again.

sweetpurpledarling077: Bambi doe eyes ignoring me I see :((

The nickname made him chuckle again, it was just so silly. It caught the attention of the Aussie boy behind him, grinning as he take a closer look at the older boy's phone. Sensing it, Heeseung immediately hid the phone.

"Hehe, who was that~"

"None of your business, go away." Frowning, he shooed the boy away but not before teasing him. "Introduce her to us later~" turning on his phone again, he saw your last text. That nickname is cute, he thought. Opening the chat, he types..

Hee_01: it hasn't been an hour yet but ur already giving me a pet names lol.

sweetpurpledarling077: I love giving pet names :3 don't mind it~

Hee_01: what if I say I don't like it?

sweetpurpledarling077: what if I say I don't care? Hehe :>

Hee_01: bruh.

Laughing so hard on your bed, your stomach ache so bad. This was fun than expected, messing with this guy make your cheeks ache from laughing too much. That night, Heeseung completely forgot about his original plan of trying to invite you, a complete stranger, for the party, to annoy the hell out of his crush, Sakura. Your humor and silly acts were just too much for his no-emotion face to last, so he had to went to the guest bedroom just so the boys who were playing under the couch won't notice it, not want to take the risk of being tease by them all day. The night was unexpectedly spent of you two texting and getting to know each other.

[ .. Flashback ends .. ]

Two weeks. Starting from that day, a part of your life was spent with this guy, Heeseung. It was quite fun getting to know him, even though he was quite cold for a few days, you eventually manage to break that by using your little tactics. Playing your little games on the boy with your sweet compliments, a bit of flirting, and the rest just by being you. Some days, you kind of wanted to meet Heeseung, and be good friends with him. But then reality dawned on you, that for him, you weren't you. Your fake picture, was the very reason he matched with you in the first place which he mentioned the other day. He find you attractive, ah yes, your older sister. Well, who doesn't? Taking a sip from your hot chocolate drink, you glance at your older sister taking her online class diligently in the living room. She's so pretty, you thought.

Shaking your head, it's just a petty little game, you thought. That guy Heeseung was just your another little game. You just wanted to have fun and fool the guy behind your phone's screen around a bit, and then mercilessly crush his heart by dumping him just like that. You felt you were being a bit too cruel, but oh well, you were really infamous for messing around since you were a kid. Playing with people's hearts as if they were little marionettes inside your little playhouse.

A ting from your phone caught your attention, smirking as you knew who it was. Taking your phone, and turning it on.

Hee_01: hey silly :) wyd?

What you didn't know was with every innocent, flirty and silly texts exchanged, you didn't realize that your little marionette will eventually snap and paint your pretty little playhouse red with insanity.

IT ISSSS tng update time. sunday we caught "captain's holiday" and "tin man" and last night we did "hollow pursuits" and "the most toys."

captain's holiday: so, i'd heard ahead of time that this was one of the worst star trek episodes Ever, and admittedly it wasn't great, but it wasn't THAT bad. i could name you 10 worse episodes in tng alone and that's without even getting into tos and the other bad episodes that are surely in my future. actually catherine liked it more than i did which is only the second time this has happened in tng

funniest part of this episode to me was riker setting picard up with the little fuck trinket and then picard coming back and giving riker woodshed vibes. don't text. hilarious to send picard to the fuck planet when he wanted to read a book or whatever but at least he got some in the end. i'll never forget patrick stewart telling that one writer that tng's captain didn't do enough shooting or screwing

second funniest part was that the little device they were all fighting over could have saved romulus. "stop the nuclear reaction in a sun" THEY COULD HAVE SAVED ROMULUS AND PICARD DESTROYED IT. THE KELVIN MOVIES ARE ALL HIS FAULT. i guess romulus wouldn't have been that much better off with NO sun but at least its people could have been evacuated. there would have been a little more time.

that said most of this ep was very boring because i'm not actually invested in picard's sex life or his slutty little outfits and definitely not enough to have a whole episode be about him and none of the extended cast

tin man: i liked the concept of this much better than the execution. most of my problems came from the fact that the guest character (hello mister mayor) is annoying. so i was unable to be invested in whatever happened to him

also, i know it;'s her job, but i am soooo tired of deanna getting stuck with all the weird broken men and having to fix them. she's like star trek's manic pixie dream girl sometimes

that said i LOVED their concept of the new biomechanical life because it's JUST like moya from farscape and i like to think the farscape writers were inspired by it <3

also i like data being a boon to overwhelmed telepath because androids dont broadcast thoughts...i like when people are nice to data

i did like riker being kind of righteously mad in this episode too. i was JUST saying we never got to see that from him...it wasn't enough here and it also wasn't Great but i still enjoyed what we got

hollow pursuits: this was the worst episode this entire seaosn easily. i felt like i was watching s1 tng again

IT IS. MASSIVELY UNETHICAL. TO RECREATE REAL PEOPLE IN THE HOLODECK

first of all i hate despise LOATHE any and all holodeck activities. secondly i know they hadn't had to grapple with AI yet in 1990 but surely SOMEONE in that writer's room had to see that it's a huge infringement on deanna's personal rights safety, and dignity to make a fake version of her to fuck in the holodeck

I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS GUY COMES BACK LIKE 4 MORE TIMES.

i feel like what tng was TRYING to do here was "very special episode about anxiety" but what it actually managed to do was make that guy look autistic but like in a bad way. like charlie from tos. and then everyone bullied him and you have to be like. well making and fucking a fake deanna is bad but bullying is also bad

wait actually you know what this is like. this is like that time when i was in public with my family and a man touched me inappropriately. and so after he was gone my mother, jumping to my defense, made some disparaging remarks about this man's race (he was not white). and then i was put in the position of defending this guy who had just been a huge creep to me because you can attack him for being a creep but not because of his race. and my family was baffled that i would defend someone who'd just done that to me. that's what watching this episode felt like.

like, absolutely nobody had a problem with the actual creepy part (holodeck deanna) and everybody had a problem with him stammering in public and being socially awkward. and bullied him accordingly. DOWN TO THE MEAN NICKNAMES.

anyway, 0/10, one of the worst episodes Ever, it literally made me wish i was back in captain's holiday watching picard slut it up. if this episode had been on "am i the asshole" the judgment would have been "everyone sucks here" except deanna, who literally did nothing wrong and suffered the most anyway

hollow pursuit: THIS ONE POPPED THE FUCK OFFFFFFFFFFFFF

10 out of fucking 10. one ZILLION stars. i would have loved it even if i wasn't a data fan but i am a data fan and i had a WONDERFUL time

you spend this whole episode wanting so so so bad for data to kill this guy. data is kidnapped and debased and coerced into playing his captor's games and you want data to kill him SO BAD. and in your mind you're like, yeah but they won't let him KILL the guy kill the guy, it's gonna be like some disney villain stumbling or having an accident and he winds up dead due to Circumstances. there's no way data is gonna fucking kill a guy

and then there's like 30 perfect seconds where you're like: oh fuck. data is GONNA FUCKING KILL A GUY

let me find the exact moment that sent me over the edge. mister captor: "Go ahead. Fire. If only you could feel rage over Varria's death. If only you could feel the need for revenge, then maybe you could fire. But you're just an android. You can't feel anything, can you?"

AND THE ENTIRE TIME. DATA'S FACE IS TWITCHING. AND I SAID ALOUD TRULY GENUINELY BELIEVING HE HAD FINALLY UNLOCKED EMOTIONS I THINK HE CAN FEEL IT ACTUALLY??? LIKE HE LOOKS LIKE HE IS FEELING IT

anyway it counts. data DID fire, and just because they couldnt have him do that on tv and had to transport him away first, he fired (in spite of his program! it was in defense of other life), he meant to kill that man horribly, it counts it counts it COUNTS

furthermore, his mic drop at the end - why would i come see you just to gloat, after all i'm just an android - made me YELL out loud. data is hard as FUCK

i can't take credit to this thought because it was catherine's thought first but it's so fun that both androids we've seen unlock emotion so far - raina unlocked love and lal unlocked fear - were immediately destroyed by it. and what a fun contrast it would be if raina unlocked her emotions with love and data unlocked his with HATE. and i agree because it contrasts so strongly with data's normal loving nature. it's very "anger of a gentle man" of him if that makes any sense. like he is always so unfailingly polite and considerate and forgiving even to people like maddox but enough is Enough.

also, everyone mourning data was really very good. i simply love when people love him...

anyway, that episode fucked. i'm thinking about making it a must see on my spreadsheet <3

TONIGHT, FINALLY: "sarek." i cannot WWWWAIT to see him

Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying the most.

Ongoing Series - Thai

The Eclipse (Fri YT) 10 of 12 - Neo is so damn good in this role. But the plot is starting to drag. I don't think this show will hold up to a binge watch. But Akk & Aye really are a killer couple. Akk caught himself a live one. I didn’t even mind the wifey talk.

My Only 12% (Fri iQIYI) 10 of 14 - Cake being back and jealous as fuck and totally into Eiw is way better and more satisfying than I thought it would be. Santa is good in this role. These 2 define codependency and it’s a little worrying, but Cake’s unalloyed joy at being with Eiw and just looking at him again is the warmest I’ve felt since the final ep of DNA Say Love You. This is a greta little show.

Ai Long Nhai (Mon iQIYI) 3 of 10 - It is a perfectly serviceable little pulp, it’s hitting all the tropes, but was a bit dull this ep (plus a bit crass and theres the stalker thing). I don’t really have a lot to say about it. Ai does switch from mueng to ter after kissing Nahi - that was cute!

Ghost Host, Ghost House (Weds YouTube) 2 of 8 - I still hold that the lead couple is nice but not sure about anything else.

Remember Me (Sun Gaga) 1 of 8 - I don’t know what it is about a voice over + Thailand but it never works well, it’s always jaw-clenchingly cliché. I don’t know if it’s the way the script is written or the limited capacity of those captioning it, but it’s never as poetic as it’s trying to be. It’s like a poem written by a middle schooler who thinks they’re very deep. This is one of those situations where the Gaga interface is failing me, because I need the skip ahead button and not the 1.5 speed (although I’m using it). Look, I’m really not into 90s nostalgia. All that said, and despite the fact that this was mostly about a pack of kids running around, which is not my thing, I actually enjoyed this ep. I was hoping to take this one out of rotation because I have too much on at the mo. But I guess it’s staying in. JaFirst = penpals who never meet. ManTitle = sunshine chatty and The Boy Who Never Speaks. Mean = the clownish leader, and random other boy = the token het.

Big Dragon (Sat Gaga) 2 of 8 - Surprise kink! This is a bunch of rough and angry nonsense, but fun nonsense. Like relationship drama between friends you don’t really like. Things that are meant to be funny, aren’t funny, things that are meant to be tense, aren’t tense, but I’m still watching it. I think that makes me the sucker, tho.

Work from Heart (Thurs YouTube) 4 of 7 - My Favorite boy with the tattoos makes a reappearance. But mostly this show is just really boring.

Love in the Air (Thurs iQIYI) 9 of 13 - whatever, Pai: DUMPSTER FIRE TRASH WATCH ALONG HERE.

Fahlanruk (Sun GaGa) 5 of 12 - And I’m out. This one is a dnf for me. Someone can tell me if the 2nd half is worth it, after it finishes, but I’m not gonna bother to watch it every week anymore. I genuinely don’t like any of the couples and the fujoshi framing is repulsive under the context of a narrative trying to be this authentically gay. I’ve lost all patience.

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Takara-kun and Amagi-kun (Japan GaGa & Viki) 8fin - These 2 were tooth achingly sweet and impossibly lovely. This show was beyond charming: soft, gentle, adorable and packed with cuteness and angst. Did anything actually happen? No. Was there any kind of even attempt at a plot? No. Did I enjoy the hell out of it, anyway? Oh yes. 9/10 TOTALLY RECOMMENDED UNDEMANDING FLUFFY GOODNESS

Roommates of Poongduck 304 (Korea Thurs Viki) 1 of 8 - I like it a lot. Rich poor. Enemies to lovers. Forced proximity. Pretty boys. What’s not to enjoy?

My Tooth Your Love (Taiwan Fri Gaga & Viki) 1 of 12 - It’s cute, quirky, well acted, and a bit slow moving. Pretty much what I expected.

Kabe Koji (Japan Mon Viki) 2 of 10 - Seriously this should be everything I love in the world but Japan has to be overly creepy and stalker about it and now it’s totally borked it for me. Oh well. I’m still watching.

It’s Airing But I’m Not Watching It

War of Y 20 eps - it’s just all too much for me.

My Roommate 32 eps of 2 minutes each + terrible production values? - I’m not bothering.

Oh My Sunshine Night 16 eps (update: 20) - I’m scared it’s gonna be sad, so I’m waiting for spies to tell me it’s safe, so far reported to be quite the soap opera.

To Sir With Love AKA Khun Chai 10 eps (update: 28!) - dito

2 Moons 3 Thai (Mon ??) 10 eps - I searched for it in a lacklustre manner but couldn’t find it legally anywhere convenient so gave up. I will watch it if it’s easy to do so.

I have been seriously considering an UWMA rewatch (as Between Us starts up next month). I’ve never chronicled or properly reviewed UWMA (which is my all time favorite Thai BL). And my understanding of Thai has markedly improved since i last watched it. What do you think? Anyone else interested?

Japan announced a new Takumi adaptation. I think is is a terrible idea for many reasons.

Sorry the whole work thing means I haven’t had time to check my usual sources for BL announcements and new releases. Also, you’ll notice very few screen shots. It’s a mad crazy world out there beyond the boundaries of one’s homey high speed internet.

BRIDGERTON S2 opinions

(everyday I wake up and find inconsistencies about the 2nd season of bridgerton as a kathony stan)

THE KATE BLAMING AGENDA

This time it's about the most controversial ep in the season.

I want to bring attention to this line ->

S2, ep6, 23:41 s

(the short confrontation between Kate and Edwina after she runs away from the alter)

Edwina to Kate: you have feelings for him!

This particular sentence just made no sense to me? And this is coming from someone who has repeated the entire scene (from the wedding to the confrontation) a number of times solely to understand how she came to the particular conclusion (and being unsuccessful at every attempt btw)

Yes, while the conclusion itself is correct - the way she came to it had basically no substance at all ( it very honestly made me remember those math questions in exams where you get the correct answer but with the absolute random steps)

Why i think so?

Bcoz all throughout the scene it was Anthony who did all the shit that eventually made Edwina figure out what was going on

1) Staring at Kate who was behind Edwina at the alter instead of focusing on her who was his bride

the archbishop asks anthony to repeat after him but anthony doesn't cause he's busy imagining Kate wearing the wedding dress and marrying him - Edwina notices when she turns to look where Anthony's attention was

2) Not knowing what to do after Edwina break his trance during the wedding

after Anthony had broken the daydream he was in after being caught in 4k by edwina, he basically looks around trying to get an idea what he missed - he fumbles because guess what? this guy who was going to be her husband any minute doesn't know shit about what was going on in his OWN WEDDING

Edwina has to sharply (you can easily see how tense she was here) remind him what he was supposed to do

"Yes ofcourse" he says but doesn't stop looking at Kate

3) PICKING UP THE DAMN BANGLEEEEE

Does it even need an explanation at this point?

Anthony, the same guy who was so listless when his own wedding is going on - but now a bangle falls, Kate's bangle - and his response is prompt

I feel like in this scene he subconsiously just told Edwina, "I don't care how unnecessary this is but I'm gonna do it I'm gonna pick up this damn bangle and no one can stop me"

Like please, Kate is perfectly able to pick up the bangle herself but does he care? No

4) "ALLOW ME"

When both Kate and Anthony are crouched down and Anthony picks up the bangle...

"Allow me" he says as he hands Kate the bangle

This whole ordeal could have been done in 3-4 secs max but it instead takes about 10s max and WHY??? bcoz Anthony is busy staring at Kate again - mans was literally caressing her hand in slowmo 😭 while returning the bangle and didn't let go of it till they were halfway standing up

Now then? What did we find out?

Basically that it was ALL ANTHONY'S ACTIONS

So yes, when I say ep6 was a fever dream that I wished didn't actually happen - its bcoz of these scenes.

But hold on!

It however would have made perfect sense if the sentence was phased like this

"I saw what was going on! He has feelings for you!"

the unspoken words here would have been "I saw those looks! I saw those actions! You have something going on between you both!"

Here I could have actually sympathized with her bcoz she after all felt betrayed - she was about to get married but she finds out her soon to be husband has feelings for her sister? Here she blames Kate, yes - but definitely blames Anthony too (which is again, very different for the og line and the feeling conveyed through it)

But when she says "you have feelings for him!" to Kate, I'm just like

Cause deadass what did Kate even do??? 😭 she was literally just standing there like🧍‍♀️baby that was all Anthony Hornypants and you know it 🤌

So yeah, when people complain about how we kathony stans are so protective of Kate - do you ever see the senerio from our side? Well I don't think so

Half of this show was basically

BRIDGER -how can we make kate feel bad- TON

And this scene was a prime example of this. Edwina could have gone off on Anthony about his conduct or shown him atleast a fraction of her anger but no 😂 let's blame it all on Kate! Let's let Anthony fuck around and blame it all on Kate.

After all...

It's always easier...

⁉️synopsis : beomgyu has been trying all year to get Y/n’s attention but he only truly gets it when he volunteers to help her practice tennis. Now beomgyu has 10 weeks till Y/n’s first comp to train and win her over.

“Fuck”. You looked all over the court to no avail to find beomgyu. You knew Beomgyu wasn’t a creep.. he just always ended up looking like one. to be honest you were quiet fond of the boy. when he wasn’t getting weird sightings from her friends he was.. well really nice.

He was always at your games cheering you on, anytime he caught you walking out of school he made you laugh with a terrible dad joke and-

“IM SO SORRY DONT FIRE ME PLEASE!”. You laughed audibly out loud. Looking Beomgyu up and down the boy wore mix matched shoes a basket ball jersey and shorts and a backwards cap.

“You know we’re playing tennis right?”. Beomgyu nodded furiously as he opened his phone.

“Ok let’s start with the basics”. After 15 minutes you started to noticed Beomgyu did in-fact not know what the hell the ‘basics’ were. For 8 of those 15 minutes the poor boy had you doing yoga poses. The other 7 were him not being able to even get the ball past the net. So it was safe to say you had to stopped mid way.

“Gyu be honest with me”. Gyu. From his friends mouths Gyu was just a silly nickname but from you is was the best form of endearment.

“Hmm”

“So do you even know how to play tennis”

“Nope”. You laughed. Beomgyu made you laugh with a joke he didn’t steal from the internet.

“Well.. I’m already good so.. would you mind just being my ‘coach’ for the title so I don’t have to spend actual ‘coach’ money?”. Beomgyu eagerly nodded.

“I can still help though! Like moral support and stuff! And little tips!”. You nodded. Beomgyu beamed at you as you quickly ran over to teach him the basics so you could have an opponent. Beomgyu felt like he was in a kdrama. He was half listening to you and half geeking about what was happening. You had half hazardly tried to, back hug him to show him how to use the racket correctly. To you, you just didn’t have to spend money you didn’t have. To Beomgyu he was starting to think he actually had a chance with you.

After you made sure Beomgyu could actually hit a ball that could pass the net, you ran back to your side of the court to play. For the next hour and fifteen minutes you played with Beomgyu. In that one hour and fifteen minutes with out you knowing Beomgyu got, five bruises, thought he pulled something and a headache. But you didn’t need to know any of that. Just being with you made him happy. So it was safe to say Beomgyu was pretty bummed when the session ended. As you ran to get your stuff Beomgyu Followed.

“So can we meet everyday on Wednesday’s and Friday’s to practice coach”. Beomgyu looked at his fake watch and thought for a minute before he answered. You laughed.

“Sounds good to me Ms.K”. You titled your head.

“Ms.K?”

“Miss Kitty cause you look like a cat”. You couldn’t help but burst out laughing. Sure it was a well known fact by all your friends that you looked like a cat but somehow when Beomgyu said it, it was so much funnier. In those five seconds you were laughing Beomgyu was analyzing you.

You had sweat beads across you head, some stray hairs on your head and the brightest smile he had ever seen.

“You thirsty?”

“Uh.. ya”

“Ok wanna go to the cafe I think it’s still open because of clubs.. oh and I have to stop by the film club for like five minutes before”. Beomgyu nodded and followed closely behind you as you entered the school.

“We’re here you can wait here if you want”. Beomgyu nodded and watched you talk to your friends. Some peeked out the door to see an awkward Beomgyu fiddling with his cap, that he had now taken off after you made a joke about it during practice.

“I think this is the first time I’ve heard him be like totally silent..”. Wonyoung said and Yeji giggled.

“Wony stop it I’m paying this man five cents for and hour and thirty minutes for that he’s really nice”

“Didn’t you text me that mid way you had to teach him how to play tennis?”. Wony laughed but quickly stopped after you glared at her.

“He’s really nice when you get to know him! Talk to him at the next game you’ll see!”. Beomgyu was struggling to hear anything but he heard you loud and clear. You thought he was nice. The girl he had been pinning after for the last two years thought he was nice. This was definitely a step in the right direction for Beomgyu. So as you walked out he linked arms with you.

“What’s this for?”

“It’s just your really short don’t wanna lose you on our way to the cafe”. Your rolled your eyes and as the two of you started to bicker a smile grew on Beomgyu’s face.

“I told you he was nice Wony”

“I know.. I just don’t wanna ever see Y/n hurt”. Why’ll the two girls finally went back to their work, you and Beomgyu exchanged numbers and were starting a new chapter in each others lifes.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians Ep 5 thoughts

(From a book reader. Spoilers for episode 5 and the book ahead)

SPOILERS AHEAD

THE THRILL RIDE O LOVE. Was as cringy as I thought it would be, as it should be. Not sure why it depicted Hephaestus’ story except for it being a way to contextualize him. But as a cringey love themed ride? Nope, doesn’t make sense

Hephaestus showing up in person to Annabeth? I have mixed feelings about. I think it was a good moment theme wise to show that not all the gods are cut throat and backstabbing. But I wanted Annabeth to figure it out. Yes I liked her speech about not wanting to be like her mom. Yes it’s good character development. But it happens too quickly and too directly for my liking

I love that Percy’s water abilities are so chaotic right now and he directly says “yeah I’m figuring it out as I go”. Yes, seaweed brain, you have no idea what the fuck you’re doing and it’s amazing. You’re doing great sweetie

SEAWEED BRAIN. THE FIRST APPEARANCE. interesting that it’s in the context of her being vulnerable with him. The first instance in the book (if I remember correctly) was her legitimately picking on him, and then it later turned into bashful and loving name calling

The slow burn was burning this episode. So much growth. THE HUG AT THE ST LOUIS ARCH

omg Smelly Gabe’s tv appearance, his concern over the camero, framing Percy as a troubled kid who hurt his mom = fabulous, 10000/10. I want the scene of Percy taking to the news like “I know by dad wants to give away free appliances… cuz he just cares so much.” *fake cries*

Grover’s convo with Ares. Iconic. I like this. This Grover is much more confident than book Grover is at this stage. Boom one Grover was shaking in his custom insert sole flying shoes. Tv Grover is calculating and prying for info from the God of fucking war and twitter battles (loved that aside)

I do not necessarily like the changes to the Waterland / thrill ride o love. I may change my mind once I see non-book readers POVs and everyone’s analysis. But right now I don’t see it

I don’t like that Grover “found out” who the lightning thief is this early. Granted we don’t know if his guess is correct. But. Also. How did he jump to the conclusion that Ares had already caught the thief? What am I missing?

Okay also WHAT I LOVED ABOUT THAT CONVO is how Grover played into Ares’ hubris. And how it foreshadows Percy v Ares. The no death quick surrender wars he mentioned. Foreshadow to Ares backing down in his fight vs Percy on the beach

Okay but I do love Annabeth saying “I’m not leaving the underworld without your mom.” And how concerned she is

GIRL IS FALLING HEAD OVER HEELS IT IS ALL OVER HER FACE. The hug at the archway. The refusal to let him sacrifice himself AGAIN without protest. Makes me wonder how their relationship with develop in the show

The zoo truck yesss I am glad it’s still there

Zoo truck going to Lotus casino is an acceptable streamlined change

Hermes being at the casino? Uh, why?

They’ve met so many gods now. Dionysus. Ares. Hephaestus. Plus they’re going to meet Hermes and Hades and Poseidon. That’s half the main pantheon. So quickly?? And so much direct engagement with their quest?? In the books, I know they meet Aphrodite. But they don’t meet Hephaestus until much later.

So many thoughts so little time. Part 2, maybe?

Dangerous Romance Ep 10

Last week, Kang tried to get dad's attention and rebel or something by running away, which he apparently does all the time so dad wasn't too fussed. Plus he had Sailom reporting back. Kang sold his bike for funds after dad froze his card, and then had regrets. He was forced to beg in order to get it back and I was supposed to feel bad I'm sure but I'm heartless and also apparently still sour about the bullying in the beginning so I didn't. Kang and Sailom did the do and I failed to feel any kind of way about it.

For the first time ever I have caught second couple syndrome and spent the whole time chanting at Nawa and Guy to make out already. They did not, but they did go on a bike ride to save their friends that they gave up on eventually because they got lost. The brain trust, these two are not.

Meanwhile, Saifah and Name had a little heart to heart and Saifah got Name a job driving Kang's dad around. I'm sure nothing bad will come of that at all.

And now on with the show! What will today bring and will I care? I'll probably care a little.

Ooh scent kink.

I do like how much Sailom likes teasing Kang. And ah, yes, the good old mosquito bite. What would we do without it.

Honeymoon my foot Sailom says with the imprint of Kang's mouth visible on his neck for anyone to see. Come on my guy.

Oh Saifah no. Honey I get that you are way sweeter than I expected. but please stop trusting - oh did you have a crush on Name? That's adorable. But please stop being stupid.

Trust no one in this show. Except Sailom because he's the best. And Auto, my beloved.

Pfft like father like son, I guess. Is dad gonna wind up being decent too in the end? Man all my suspicion of everyone is coming to absolutely nothing. Maybe I should watch The Player after this. I hear it has the double and triple crossing I crave. I want to trust no one!

Oh hey is dad gonna go see Kang's game? Look at this.

Tread carefully here Sailom.

Drama! Guy is hurt. Careful Nawa you're running the risk of looking concerned. And Kang gets to get over his issues with penalty shots. I wonder if Saifah will tell him about his dad. Those two need to have a talk already.

Ah, so that explains why Kang gets so weirdly tense when his dad finds him messing around or not studying hard enough. But of course now he thinks his dad has given up. Maybe find a happy medium, dude. I really don't think that your wife meant let him do whatever whenever.

Oh NO. Dad surprised a burglary in progress eh? Saifah what did you do? I no longer believe that it was entirely you so what happened? And where is Name? Fled the scene huh?

I have no doubt that Dad will wake up. But it would be kind of interesting if he didn't. Way too bleak for this show though.

Well now that Saifah confessed I am more sure than ever that it isn't what it looks like, haha.

Haha that didn't last long. Man, it wasn't even Sailom who brought him into the house, it was grandma. SO much for all that support. Why is this so funny to me? I am a horrible person.

Oh look, it's Flashback's Triumphant Return. I did not miss you, Flashback. The show has been so good about their use of them lately that I got complacent. And now look at us. Here we are, and no one is happy. Not me, not Sailom, I'm assuming not Kang. Definitely not me.

WOW Name. Now I know you're the actual problem.

Pfft okay I kind of love how they just forgot about Guy. Granted there was a bit of a situation at home.

AW look at the troops all rallied. They're such sweeties. But uh, I'm pretty sure a confession means jail time regarless of lawyers, no?

Oh no! Isn't Guy on a scholarship for football? What happens to that if he can't play?

The way I am feeling these two, though. Every time that they interact I perk up.

Okay I do not like Name. I take back anything nice I might have said about him. Also that watch is totally the one that Kang's dad already gave Saifah. I would bet money on it.

Listen to grandma kid. She gets it. She's a lot smarter than you.

"Poor people will do anythign for money." This coming from a guy who has watched Sailom actively not do things for money over and over again. I know Kang's upset but he's also a lot less likable without Sailom. Not sorry.

Oooh return of the escorting plot! YAY.

Huh. I am actually really curious as to why Saifah is taking the blame for this. Because I don't believe for one second he shot Kang's dad. Also I bet the reason Name's so concerned is because he did it, and dad knows that.

I mean I did see the preview, but even if I hadn't I would have known that this dude totally roofied the wine. Oh, Sailom.

And of course Kang is gonna take his ire out on Sailom.

Yes, you stupid shit. You kicked him out of your house and fired him, what the fuck do you expect. Like come on dude I know thinking isn't your strongest suit but do try it.

Hm. That last scene did not hit me like I think it was supposed to. Dammit. Why do these big scenes keep not working for me?

I guess next week Kang's back to letting Sailom think for him. Good. It's better for all of us when he does.

In conclusion, if Nawa and Guy don't make out by the end of this I will be mightily displeased.
