-Gravelpaw is given her warrior name, Gravelwhisker.

-Harvestbite asks to join the clan, offering his healing skills in exchange for a home. Both Jasperstar and Slitjaw agree to let him join. Harvestbite enters the clan with his two kits, Hopekit and Mitekit.

-Hopkit joins the clan with her father, Harvestbite.

-Mitekit joins the clan with her father, Harvestbite.

-While Harvestbite and Slitjaw are out on patrol they find Canaryheart and his two kits, Glowkit and Lostkit, in a bush. The two medicine cats approach Jasperstar, asking to let him and his kits join. Jasperstar agrees.

Glowkit had mentally been calling himself Glowpaw ever since he turned 6 moons old. It brought him comfort to think of his apprentice ceremony, or at least what Sunfern had described happened when she was made a ‘paw. Cats would cheer for him when Nightengalestar proclaimed him an apprentice, and he’d train under Duskroot to become a Healer like him. The elder would joke about finally being able to retire fully once Glowpaw earned his name, then they’d both laugh and be fine. Glowpaw shook his head, now wasn’t the time to be thinking about that stuff, he was an apprentice now! He had to be strong, he was carrying Capclan with him now.

Darkroot taught him some herbs while they were in camp, many were no good or got destroyed, but Glowpaw learned a lot in those few days. He learned how to pull a thorn and wrap a paw, he also learned what herbs were used to stop pain and infection. The most important herb he learned about were the herbs Darkroot used to treat the color coughs, especially red cough. Glowpaw recalls Darkroot saying Red cough was hard to survive, but it could be cured. Idly, he wondered if those things could be cured, or at least stopped, with the same herbs. He huffed, amused with himself, like he was gonna try and get close enough to test that.

Glowpaw had been camping out in an old animal den for the past few nights, and while it was a tight fit, it was safe. The area around it seemed plentiful too! With herbs abound, as well as prey. Glowpaw hadn't learned to hunt himself, and Darkroot taught him very few hunting moves. He figured it was because the old tom hardly knew many himself, being a Healer and all. But he felt pride in the few catches he managed to make himself.

His mouth was full of strong smelling herbs, the scent tickling his nose and threatening to make him sneeze. He’d been tying these herbs together and placing them around his temporary den, masking his scent from anything that might try and find him. His attention was drawn away from the herbs for a moment by motion in the water, a ripple above the surface.

Glowpaw considered himself smart and sensible, but hunger was a powerful motivator, and the young apprentice was desperate. He gently and carefully placed the herbs onto a dry piece of bark, before padding over to the water to investigate. Sure enough, Glowpaw could see fish swimming underneath the surface, popping up for a quick second before resuming. Glowpaw waited and waited, before seeing a fish dare to swim closer to him. He slammed his paw down into the water, claws catching onto the fish.

Glowpaw tried to pull it out, but the fish seemed to be stronger, its weight and desperate fighting pulled Glowpaw right in. The water was deeper than Glowpaw first thought, as his mouth and lungs were full of water in seconds. Fear overtook the poor apprentice as he fought to raise his head above water, coughing and splashing. Finally, his claws caught onto the bank, and he weakly pulled half his body out of the murky water. Coughing, soaking wet, and still hungry, he cut his losses and collected his herbs, heading for his den.

Glowpaw fell into a body of water and inhaled a lot of water. He’s been hacking and sputtering ever since

🖋Notes on the day🖋

I won’t lie, the day did not go as I planned💔. On paper it looks productive, and it was, but while out shopping I left my wallet at a store and all of my cash was stolen and for safety reasons I had to cancel my cards. Of course this had to happen on Day 1 of my self betterment journey, but I won’t let it stop me! I’ll just look forward to tomorrow. On a better note, there were a lot of sales so I got some candles, beauty products, and stuff for around the apartment!

Glowkit left the safety of the camp walls no more than five sunrises ago, the stench of rot and blood driving him to leave, almost as much as his rumbling belly did. Darkroot hadn’t returned as the elder promised he would, and Glowkit felt sick just thinking of what might have happened to the sweet tom. Those things had been invading camp, or trying to, for the past ten moons. Glowkit was born after the outbreak had started, all he had known was fear and the stink of rot and blood, but his mother had spoken of a time where Capclan was safe. Sunfern told him stories of hunting in the murky waters for fish, and patrolling next to cats who Glowkit would never meet. Life was scary and hard, the cats skinny due to never daring to wander too far from camp, lest they become prey themselves. Sickness was rampant, and any cat that showed signs of red cough were thrown out. Sunfern was one of those cats.

Glowkit tripped on a root, face splashing into the mud. He lifted himself up and choked back a sob. He never got to say goodbye to any of them, it happened too fast. Darkroot and him were huddled in the nursery together while battle cries rang out in the clearing. Glowkit swore he heard the gurgled growls and hisses from those things as well, as they tore into the living cats and dragged them off. A few attempted to break into the nursery, but it had been fortified heavily, and Darkroot defended it and him violently.

Glowkit looked up, and though the trees he saw the sky was once again darkening. Darkroot had warned him to never stay out in the open when it got dark, he had told him that those things were most active and hostile at night. Darkroot told him lots of things, maybe Darkroot knew his time was coming, maybe he was trying to give Glowkit a fighting chance.

Despite how cramped it was, and the fact water was nearly at his tiny paws, Glowkit had decided to rest for tonight in the roots of a tree whose roots were exposed due to the bank being washed away. Glowkit’s body shook, his fur damp and paws soaked. He silently wept as the sunlight faded, knowing that he’d have to try and sleep through the groans of cats who were supposed to be his clanmates, who were supposed to protect him.

He missed his mom, he missed Darkroot, He missed Capclan.

So much grief and death has taken its toll on Glowkit. He is now in Shock.
