this all started because lil old me wanted that pink argyle swatch for ms sophia and look where that got me. no but I had SO much fun with these I straight up had to force myself to stop! this is my first time doing an actual recolor, I've only recolored some hairs for flourish and some frankenstein shirts for elowen and seb so pls don't be mean if they're terrible lol. let me know if you have any issues! <3

psst hey do u have any sdv mod reccs/any tips on how to use them 👀

yeah! so for stardew mods to work you need to first install the smapi api.

you can either do that through their main website or nexus

neither option has any cons theyre just based on preference on how you wanna install it but theyre both completely safe websites.

after you properly install smapi you’ll have to go to nexus which is the main website for all stardew valley mods. you’ll need to make an account to install stuff i believe. you can find a wide range of mods here that serve a lot of different purposes.

if you haven’t used nexus to mod before then as i mentioned before first make an account then once you are looking at a mod make sure to check the requirements first. sometimes mods need other mods to work and you need to install those first. after you checked the requirements you head to the files section and click manual download. after that select slow download then wait for it to install into your files. then you move those files into the stardew mod folder. if thats not clear enough you can find a bunch of tutorial videos on youtube with visuals:)

since you asked for my recs i’ll give you the list of which i actually use all the time.

NPC Map Locations

- very basic mod. majority of mod users will have this installed and it just shows you on the map where each npc is at at all times.

CJB Cheats Menu & CJB Item Spawner

- these two sorta go hand in hand for me but of course you don’t need to have both installed. this is definitely a play style preference thing but i personally like having these cheats installed for any type of situation that might happen in game that i can’t undo otherwise without them.

- the cheats menu adds a lot more flexibility and well cheats to the game so for instance: infinite health, infinite stamina, give yourself money, instantly increase hearts with whichever npc, always catch every fish, warp locations, change weather, change time, freeze time, and a lot more. this uses the P key to open in game but you can configure that to another bind if you’d like.

- the item spawner is a lot more simple. does what it says and spawns whichever item you want. so basically you can press the i key and it’ll open up a menu with every item in the game and you can spawn in the specific amount you want of something and so forth. simple concept. i mainly use this for when i accidentally sell or gift an item i wasnt intending to and then simply spawn it back in. i also use it for decorating my house:3

Look Up Anything

- this is literally like having the wiki at your disposal at all times in game. extremely helpful for so many reasons especially as i personally always had the wiki open to check for information on items and npcs so having this mod made it a lot quicker of a process. how it works is you simply hover your mouse over whatever you want information on and click f1 and it’ll display all the information about that thing to you! so if you hover over lets say harvey and press f1 it’ll show you a menu with his birthday, his love & like gifts, your hearts with them and how many points till the next heart, etc.

Seasonal Outfits

- this mod puts all the npcs in different outfits for the seasons. its just cute

Elle’s Seasonal Buildings & DaisyNiko’s Earthy Recolor

- the seasonal building allows a lot more variety in structures like farm building and adding holiday decor to npc buildings. simple stuff that can make the game more customized

- with seasonal buildings you can also install compatible recolors which is what the DaisyNiko’s link is. it’s the recolor i personally use for my main farm when i play. this is because the vanilla game is very saturated and does hurt my eyes so having more chilled out tones helps. you dont need to install the recolor i use or any in fact if you like the natural look of the game but just know the option is there and there’s a multitude of recolors you can use to make the game look different:3

Friends Forever

- no friendship decay because itsa pain in the ass and i have no time to talk to the npcs all day. this is very play style based some people enjoy having to go and ensure they speak to npcs daily im just not the type.

Part of The Community

- creates different ways for you to gain hearts easier and passively

Mailbox Menu & Zilch’s Envelopes

- i really like the letters and the fact you can only read them once bummed me out until i found this mod which adds a whole menu for your mail where you can go back and see all the letters you’ve received. feel like it adds that additional touch and care to the whole mail system in the game.

- then to go along with that menu theres the envelopes mod that customizes it even further and makes all the envelopes of the letters have cute appearances and designs. look at this and tell me that isn’t the best thing you’ve ever seen.

in conclusion…

I really suggest just taking the time and scrolling through the nexus mods website on your own. they have a specific category for stardew and you can filter it by most popular and see what you find yourself. since everyone plays differently you might find you enjoy the more technical code side and want to change something to do with that or you might just simply wanna change the npc portraits and make them look nicer. theres so many options on how to mod this game and i honestly could go on forever with mod suggestions but at the end of the day its up to you! so hope this helps and i hope you have a fun time modding.

I'm really excited to share a sneak peek at the magazine spread since I've been talking about it for a while now. So far it's mostly layout and narrowing down the photo selection, just barely started any writing for the magazine itself, but it's generating new ideas for their story after the magazine is released. Finally, the angst I crave.

In modding news...

I've been working on modernizing my old recolors of the in-game cutoff vest/hoodie (yes, that hoodie). It's been one of my favorite pieces of clothing since my PS4 days, and was one of my earliest recolors.

Left: Gabriella, who you might know; and right: Vamika who only made an appearance or two before I lost her preset, recreated her, then failed to post more pics before I lost the HDD.

Not only is the vest getting an upgrade to ArchiveXL, I'm working on adding optional garment support; additional colors and patterns, and more refits; and, something I'm really proud of, an updated cropped mesh with matching fringe. I'll be adding the player versions as cropped options, too.

The aforementioned matching fringe. I attempted this way back with the original mod but didn't have the knowledge to make it work. Also: hands.

Related, this has made me finally update all my OCs for 2.0+. Gabriella was already updated but Vamika needed some help, and she also got some cool new electrifying eyes. Babygirl Travis and Antonio are also working just fine; you'll see them again soon, I'm sure.

hi! i'm really new to the sims games, but i really wanted to share my parx sims and cc recolors i made. some of them are a little wonky together but i just started this game like last month and i just wanted some feedback and tips from the community if i just let what i have so far into the wild.

Hi! I've been a follower for awhile of you and Sara as I play TS3!

I started becoming a creator and learning to Convert 4to3 items in my game which has been so fun for me.

I tend to love a certain style that I can't find in most cc creators so I want to make my own eyes, skins, skin details/ tattoos etc. to make my sims.

To keep it short is there any tutorials you learned from on how to make skin and eyes and tattoos? Any tips you could give to help out someone who is trying to learn themselves and start a simblr?

Hello!! That is definitely why Sara and I started making stuff, it makes your sims feel more like your own characters when you can add the personalized touches yourself. Sara and I have been skin blending for a long time (around since 2016 I wanna say) and we're mostly self taught, I don't remember a lot of people wanting to share their skin blending techniques back in the day. The most I can do is to link you to here and browse through their tutorials they have shared. The other basic tips I can share is that Sara and I use the 3D mode in photoshop for all of our skins, you'll need to get .dae files to open in photoshop which you can find here, find a base skin, doesn't have to be terribly detailed just so you know where the eyelids, nose, and mouth should go as well as the ears. Make sure you make a new layer before pasting whatever details you want to add otherwise when you merge it down on the 3D side it'll go onto whichever layer you were on (then you gotta completely redo it and it's a pain in the ass). ALSO! You can use liquify to move stuff around better in the 3d mode, I use multiply when placing stuff first so I can line it up where it needs to go. I've also seen some skins where people haven't matched the scalp correctly or there's a line where the body and the head meet, my trade secret is to use the eyedrop tool and grab the color on the face dds then just paste it completely in the scalp and on the body I use a soft brush and drag it over the very top of the neck on the body dds. As for eyes and tattoos, eyes are definitely like making makeup in the regard that you can make them recolorable and they go in the makeup category so if you have any experience with that it's not too hard, just make sure if they're not recolorable to set the color in TSRW to white so they show up properly in game. Tattoos I always add directly to my sims skins, accessory tattoos look awful in game, they glare under the light and they're blurry, easier to just add them to the skin, for the body you can just paste them on in 2D but for face tats I recommend using the 3D mode instead because of warping, black tattoo with a white background I tend most of the time to set the layer to multiply and it looks fine.

For examples of tattoos warping:

You want the tattoo to be here so if we place it like so in the 2D mode it looks fine right?

Wrong because it is going to look like this in game

So instead paste it in 3D mode like so and then merge it down

It'll look like this in the 2D mode but it's fine! It'll look correct in game!

I was kinda spit balling but I hope this helps even a tiny tiny bit!

Hi, i really hope im not bothering you by sending a modding question... i am absolutely brand new to even thinking about modding, and i know theres a big discord out there, but ive mostly heard horror stories coming out of the community so im honestly terrified to even check it out... im just wondering if you have any idea if its feasible to make a mod of Padre's shirt for V? (The one w the sweater over a collared shirt, i feel like ive seen it on other random npcs as well) not asking you to do it or anything, but its one ive never seen in mods so idk if its already been tried by modders and everyone decided "nah this wont work". Again, so sorry if you dont want to be bugged with questions like this, you honestly just feel like one of the most approachable people ive seen in this fandom so far and trying to make any cp77 friends has proven extremely intimidating.

Heya!! It's always ok to ask modding questions, you don't bother at all 🤲

I can't blame you for not wanting to get your feet into big servers, it can get quite overwhelming and frustrating when nobody seems to notice you. Tho I recommend using them as modding-wiki extension! It can be useful to search for solution, plugins and softwares, discord exclusive tutorials, or catch someone's getting help for a similar problem for example. There is no need to be active :3 but no pressure ofc, just know that it's totally ok to join these servers to just lurk

Now for Padre's shirt! I won't be able to do it (not right now at least) so I'll throw infos and direction if anyone else wanna give it a try 🤏

Here's the path to Padre's mesh -

base\characters\garment\gang_valentino\torso\t1_078_shirt__sweater\t1_078_ma_shirt__sweater_old.mesh

Tho we can see its all wonky compared to a regular MA mesh, and that's because this one is specifically fitted for old' Padre (it's even in the mesh file name, _old)

To make a version useable for masc V, we'll need to combine a few meshes available in the same folder!

The main piece: t1_078_ma_shirt__sweater.mesh

The bottom part: t1_078_ma_shirt__sweater_shirt.mesh

The cuffs: t1_078_ma_shirt__sweater_cuffs.mesh

And one of the two available collar: t1_078_ma_shirt__sweater_collar_01.mesh or _collar_02.mesh

All of these should already fit into one another, but if not a lil refit in blender should do the trick!

Then I can only point out to the Modding Wiki and its numerous tutorials for the AXL part (making a standalone clothing mod)

I also recently added my own AXL Workflow in my Tutorial Drive; I'm planning on writing a proper one, for now it's only screenshots from an old private tutorial I made for a friend, some infomartion are outdated (I've learned a lot since then as well) but it can still be useful, hopefully!

Since I didn't have an art piece specifically for Undertale's 8th anniversary and I don't wanna burn myself out. So instead, I'm gonna introduce a couple of my Sans AUs! (I have more than two but we're just gonna start with two.)

Introducing: Soul and Broken!

Detailed background and lore dumps under the cut! (Beware, it will be long and probably a lot of reading. I will include a couple TLDRs at the end.)

Soul's Story

TW: murder (that's the only one I can think of, but please lmk if others apply to this)

Soul is the first Sans AU I have ever made. (His design used to be just a Sans recolor, but I have tried to change that a bit.) And so his design is pretty lackluster but his backstory is super long because that's how I was years ago.

Soul was just a normal Sans until the human's reset went wrong. Somehow, it glitched all the way back to when the human with the justice soul fell. Soul felt like something was off, and decided he should kill the justice soul-ed human. Why? Probably felt like this was the only way to break away from something keeping him tied. So he did just that and absorbed the child's soul.

He was able to cross the barrier. He made sure not to enter the large city near Mt. Ebott. Instead, he found a very small village with probably only about a population of 200 or less. Something dark had taken over his mind and he killed every human in sight. (Honestly, I don't remember why, but it was probably because he didn't want to go back to that torturous loop he was stuck in.)

Then he saw someone who was definitely going to reset. In his panic, he grabbed the two souls closest to him, a bravery soul and an integrity soul, and ran. He absorbed the integrity soul, giving him more agility and speed. He was miraculously able to make it back to the underground before everything was reset. Without explanation, he forced Papyrus to absorb the bravery soul. As soon as he did, Soul found they were now back to the normal timeline.

But this time, Soul and his brother, now named Trait, still have the souls they absorbed, but more ingrained into their very beings. There was no way for them to separate from the souls they absorbed now.

Soul and Trait were now able to remember every timeline, Trait didn't show he knew, and Soul could check people's stats, including his own. But any time he tried to check his own stats, he would see them, but he would begin to hear these strange, murderous voices.

These voices started quiet and got louder over time until Soul caved in and killed someone. Then the voices would get quiet again and it would start all over. The only way they would disappear is when a reset would happen.

The only thing Soul forgot about a timeline is his own stats and evil voices. The moment he checked his stats, he would remember all of that.

Eventually, he and Trait snapped. They were done dealing with being stuck in a loop. They had a discussion with each other and came up with a plan to defeat the human.

Said plan kinda backfired. While it did defeat the human, it also destroyed their whole AU, leaving behind Soul, Trait, and an empty white void.

They did mostly fine in this white void, but eventually Soul checked his stats and the voices started. And of course, that doesn't bode well.

Soul's large amount of negativity drew Nightmare, who decided Soul would make an interesting "plaything." (Aka Soul gets tortured and treated horribly by all those guys ig. But he escaped eventually. And don't worry, Trait was taken to the Omega Timeline.)

After Soul escapes from Nightmare, he kinda just explores the multiverse.

Which leads us to Broken's story.

Broken's story

TW: Major domestic violence and abuse

In Broken's world, colors were swapped around somewhat randomly, and they had slightly altered personalities and HP. This Papyrus was angered much more easily than the normal Papyrus. And this Papyrus would build up until he lashes out. (Ps, this is not supposed to excuse anything I describe next as okay in any way, shape, or form.)

His pent up anger had nowhere to go other than to at Broken. It started verbally, then escalated to physical. Some days, Papyrus was so angry that he just wanted to break Broken.

And, unfortunately, he did.

It started with Broken's leg. He watched it dissolve into dust with horror. He was given a cheap, crappy prosthetic so people wouldn't suspect anything. This Papyrus told others that Broken fell off a tree, his leg got ripped off and fell into the river. And they couldn't afford a more expensive leg. This was obviously all bull.

It started with Broken's leg, then his arm, and finally half of his head. From the day his head was destroyed, Broken was rendered blind, and basically magic less.

One day, Broken was hiding in his room, just wishing he could run away when there was a sound at his window.

Soul found his way in, and they talked. Soul and Broken talked for a long, long time. Unfortunately, Broken's horrible brother returned, and Soul had to leave.

The next time Soul visited, he didn't hesitate to offer Broken freedom from this horrible place. And Broken didn't hesitate to accept.

Soul and Broken's life together

Soul took Broken to the empty, white void that used to be his AU. And together, they built a house. Originally, the house was intended for only Broken. But things changed. They fell in love with each other.

And so, Soul and Broken live together, married and extremely happy. They do their best to overcome their traumas together (mainly Broken, he struggles) and live the best life they can. They often explore other worlds together.

Soul is what keeps Broken afloat, and Soul would say the same about Broken.

Broken knows he can do anything with Soul at his side, and everything will be okay. He has Soul at his side.

Until he doesn't =)

TLDRs:

Soul's Story: Soul kills a child to go and kill a bunch of humans, absorbs only one soul of those, gives another to his brother and then things reset. Eventually accidentally destroys his whole AU with the help of his brother. Goes and explores other AUs.

Broken's story (abuse TW): gets abused by his brother really horribly. Soul finds him and takes him to the empty void of his AU.

Soul and Broken's life together: two gay skeletons get married and use each other to overcome traumas.

About: The graphics are on the small side, and not vectorized, so they won't look very good if you blow them up. They were made with the intent of being placed between lines of text or at the top of chapters.

The light grey versions are ink-savers. They were run over with a screentone. They aren't very sharp-looking, but if you're tight on ink and staring down a 300-page longfic, they'll get you where you need to go.

Rules: These are for individuals and indie creators only - no big box publishers. You can sell what you make with them, but you can't sell the graphics themselves. (However, if you're so moved with gratitude that you'd like to pay me, my patreon is right here.) You can recolor them, or edit them however you need for your projects. Hello, friend of Goat! ^^ You opened quite the Pandora box with this ask, lemme tell you! xD There’s just SO MUCH good clutter to be found all across the web; listing each individual piece would take me months! So in that name, I’ll be mostly listing general sites and blogs where I download my clutter from, with only the occasional recommendation for specific pieces of cc. I trust that you’ll do the ‘hard’ but enjoyable job of browsing through those recommended sites. ;)

- First and foremost: Garden of Shadows. Obvious one, I know, but I can’t stress enough just how many terabytes of cc gems the forum contains! From the Antiques and Oddities section to Monthly themes, events, and gift exchanges, GoS is the go-to resource if you want weird and wonderful cc, clutter included. Even if you think you’ve browsed it all and know everything the forum has to offer, revisiting some classics (e.g. Advent 2012) with fresh eyes might put you in the way of awesome clutter that you missed the first time around!

- Another obvious one: The PlumbBob Keep. Like GoS, it’s a HUGE forum with tons of hidden treasures, so definitely worth taking a look at. These fine porcelain plates, for example, look like something an elderly sim with a refined taste would display on their shelf! The forum also has a Conversions sections that’s worth checking out, because...

- ...conversions from other games like Bioshock, Skyrim, TSM, Dragon Age, etc. are a great way to get your hands on unique clutter! Some of my go-to object converters include Yolartut, Delonariel, Veranka, Hafiseazale, Amovitam, Mistyfluff, and Kativip. The last is an individual creator, but also the name of a whole forum that shares super-cool conversions, among many other things. I understand that most of the preview pics on Kativip’s site are sadly busted these days, but don’t let it discourage you! The site is absolutely worth digging through, even blindly.

- If you want clutter that’s shabby chic, old-timey but still contemporary in essence, SimPearls is a good place to look. The forum requires registration to be able to download from, but a number of resident SimPearls creators (e.g. Kim, Amythestfenix, Deatherella, Betsy4arts) also have personal blogs that you can check out!

- An oldie but goldie, Parsimonious features tons of great stuff that holds up incredibly well despite its age. Their creations are sorted in sets by room rather than by type of object, but there’s clean previews for each included piece, so browsing around should be a breeze!

- A more recent(ish) creator, MrsReval has many, many droolworthy object conversions. How about this cool pipe for your elders’ shelves, or these fancy figurines?

- Pocci/Gardenbreeze is a somewhat forgotten creator with a limited, if nice selection of quality cc. Their Roses Mini Set is a personal fave I can’t seem to play without, and then there’s also these sunflowers in a vase and these dainty deco birds that I’m submitting for your consideration.

- Speaking of forgotten creators: make sure to not miss out on HolySimoly, Adele, Om/Avalon, and Ogulama: all dead sites that have been archived courtesy of Liquid Sims. (*Protip: if you ever run across a creator who has disappeared and/or deleted their stuff, @sims2packrat likely has backups!)

- Riekus13‘s Tumblr is an absolute must for top-tier cc recolors! I don’t think there’s a cc object in existence that Riekus hasn’t recolored at some point, so their download archive doubles as a cc catalogue in its own right!

- Moxxa is a retired creator who shared many gorgeous converted object sets back in the day. Note that her cc style is mostly modern/contemporary, but maybe you can still find something nice for your elders’ shelves. How about this decorative model plane, for example?

- Someone else you might wanna check out is Beautifulnerdkitty. Like Moxxa, their cc is predominantly modern, but it’s so gorgeous and well done that it’d be a shame not to mention them!

- Pixelry is another member of the ‘gorgeous hq cc that’s not strictly antique but absolutely worth the effort‘ gang. Their original Tumblr got deleted and the link I’ve given only contains a small fraction of all the stuff they’ve shard over the years, so make sure to also check out their Old CC archive and SFS backup folder. (*Note: The Archive is on SimPearls so might require registration).

- Finally, a useful tip: sometimes, the best way to find good clutter is to rip it straight outta the games of other people via lot downloads! ;) I can’t even begin to tell you just how many unique pieces I’ve gotten just by plucking JodelieJodelie’s furnished lots; and you can do the same with any creator whose style you like!

I feel like there’s a ton of creators I’m forgetting to mention, but I believe there’s enough material here to keep you busy for a while. ;) Have fun downloading! ^^

Aaaa I just discovered this blog and it's really interesting! I don't know too much about xenogenders/neopronouns since they kind of get me very overwhelmed due to my need to Absolutely understand everything and categorize/label stuff when I'm in a community (ex: fandoms, archetypes, tropes) so this might be a dumb question but.. what exactly are titles and what are they used for? And how should someone go about when making a gender-system? I'm asking because I plan on making one for a story and don't really know how to go about it.. anyways, so sorry for this dumb ask! there are no dumb questions here!! i’ll put the two explanations under the cut since it’z kinda long. sorri abt that! the gender systems i mention have alreadi been created, and i’ve linked them where i mention them if you wanna check them out!!

okk so titles are basicalli a name that describes someone or a certain aspect of them. does that make sense? it’s kinda like a name or pronouns in that they can give someone euphoria and they’re a way of describing a person. like a realli simple one that’z used outside the mogai communiti bc it’s an actual like position would be the prince!! more creative titles that aren’t used in day-to-day life might be “the creator of the heavens” or “(pronoun) who creates life.” these are more creative and descriptive than just a “job” title (i put in quotes bc i’m not sure if being a prince is considered a job LOL. but a more job-like one would be the baker). but yeah, they’re p much used as one would use a name or a pronoun, which is to address people.

as for gender systems, there are a few things that are considered sort of…gender system etiquette, shall we say?

1) think of the concept you want to convey. do you want a gender system where one’s gender is decorated with smth (genderdecorated)? or maybe one where one’s gender is related to certain fonts (genderfont)? then take that idea and turn it into a single word. most gender systems don’t have commonli seen gender endings like -ic or -gender, but just the word. am i making ani sense? i hope so 😅

2) take that word and put gender in front of it!! like with genderdecorated and genderfont. people will replace the word gender with the concept (or with genderfont it’z the font name) name of their choosing. like for example, if they want to coin a gender under the genderdecorated gender system where one’s gender is decorated in cuteness, it would be known as cutedecorated.

3) before we go ani further, check to see if the gender system alreadi exists!!!! look up gender_ in the tumblr search bar, and if nothing comes up, you’re probabli good to go!!

4) the next step is creating the flag template. try to make a unique flag template outside of just straight stripes, if possible. if you’re not sure how to do that, check out this quick tutorial here. if you have ani questions regarding this step, feel free to send in another ask!! below is the greyscale color palette i use for my templates. ik it looks boring, but people will use the template as a base and recolor it! this is commonli done w the bucket tool, but there’s probabli other methods. aniways, here’s the palette. simpli put an image layer into your canvas with this as an image and sample out the colors so that you can use them in your flag!!

ignore the colors above and below the greyscale line, i could onli crop it sm </3 keep in mind that you don’t need to use all of these colors in your template!!! they’re just there if you need them.

5) craft the definition, adding in blanks for people to fill in with the concept they want. for more info on what i mean, check out the coining posts to the gender systems i’ve mentioned above (dw, they’re linked!!) or check out any of my gender system coining posts, which can all be found linked in the pinned post of @bloodygendersystems !! sorri that i’m not great at explaining this part. it’z probabli just best to look at examples.

6) this part is optional, but it’z helpful for people who may want to coin under your gender system. upload your flag template(s) to deviantart!! when saving flag templates straight from tumblr, they get a bit blurri, making them harder to recolor. if this has ever happened to anibodi reading this, dw!! i got you. upload the flag you’ve saved from tumblr to this upscaler website, click the highest upscale option available to you, fill out the captcha, click download, and voilà! it should be readi for you to recolor!! ik the website name is kinda weird, but it’z upscale power is unmatched. i’ve also seen other people use it without issue so it should be good!!! i think it’z also an app, but i’ve onli ever used the website.

7) post your gender system!! if you plan on coining ani genders under your gender system, add the names of them into the post so people know not to coin those ones!! you could say smth like “planning to coin x, y, and z, so please don’t coin those unless i get overwhelmed and say you can.” some people might reblog with genders they’re going to coin as well, so make a mental note not to coin those ones.

Some context (ENG)

Thought I’d be a good idea to give some context about the main character of this blog, so…

¿Who is this?

Sonidy is the most boring, tasteless Oc in the world, a freaking recolored Sonic whom doesn’t even have a cool or pretty name.

Nonetheless, I love her dearly and wouldn’t change her for anything. So let me ramble tell you about the process I’ve been through to create her.

She was meant to be used as an avatar for Youtube (which she actually is). Born from the simple train of thought that “Hey, I like Sonic, but I don’t wanna use the existing characters, maybe I can create one myself?”

So after a very short time searching, I found this game, “Furry dollmaker”, which did exactly what I was looking for. As the character design was obviously the same as Sonic character’s style.

It was from Deviantart, and I think after Flash stopped working on browser it’s not possible use it on the site. But you can try it yourself thanks to the wayback machine if you want.

That’s her first design (I just took myself for reference. Hair and eyes color, and the outfit I wore that day, gloves included). It wasn’t the best, but probably many people would think it’s better than lame-ass edits and art theft, right?

Well as you surely noticed, that didn’t remotely crossed my mind.

As I said, the main goal was to make an avatar that I could use on multiple websites. I did a video using this image, but let’s say it wasn’t good, not at all. Even for the standards back then for the specific community I wanted to get in (and if you’re wondering, that video doesn’t exist anymore ‘cause I never uploaded it. I didn’t even render it because I didn’t like how it came out. I still remember how it was, and trust me, it was boring). And the most important fact that made me change my mind about using it was that it seemed so rigid and inexpressive to me. To this day I cannot remember why I cared about that, but yeah that was what it bothered me the most.

So, thinking on a solution, I remembered something.

You see, inside the community I wanted to be part of, there was an even more niche group of creators whom all used Sonic avatars, with different colors and styles.

I should mention that all of this happened when I was like 12-13 years old, so I didn’t knew a lot on how edition tools worked. And after investigating for a bit, I found myself following a tutorial from a user called “Fedesonic” (the user doesn’t exist anymore) that showed how to make you own Sonic character. (Actually, if you know that Sonic paradox’s short, basically that’s what happened), and I learned how to paint over Sonic X’s images.

This was the first recolor I did; I had to simplify the design though. ‘Cause if you haven’t noticed by now, I hadn’t the slightest notion on how to draw. So I wasn’t capable on putting on that many details (plus I would have to do it all with a mouse and I barely understood how to use the program, so at that moment it seemed an impossible task).

With that, I was able to create some silly videos for a while (I think it was like 2 or 3 years) I kept recoloring frames from Sonic X’s show as I mentioned as they provided a variety of poses and expressions. But I have to admit that I sometimes used fanart too, mainly because I was unaware it was a bad thing (I never proclaimed that it was my own art though, I hope that helps a bit).

And so, I spent a couple of years unable to do anything besides daydream about what I wanted. Thinking about it now, maybe it was a good thing. Because without having to rush I could mediate about the story I wanted, to repeat it over and over in my head, fixing plotholes and replacing scenes for others more imaginative and interesting.

Time went on, I planned to make a series (like a story mode) with the characters to try and make them more interesting, I started it and divided it in two parts, and then my pc exploded because I’m life’s favorite joke.

So even if I managed to rescue my archives, I had not a place to work with them and advance my project.

All of it was getting more complex and, do I really need to depend on whatever pose or expression made by someone else miraculously fits on with the scenes? Maybe I will need to heavily edit the image, and what if no one has done something that’s exactly what I have in mind? What the hell I’m supposed to do then?

To my dismay, the answer was obvious. If I wanted my vision to come out exactly as I imagined: I had to learn how to draw.

Now, probably whoever is reading this is thinking “Duh” but it was a crushing revelation for me back then, mind you >:[ I had never been good at drawing nor I had any interest in doing so. Realizing I had to start from the beginning at something I had zero skill for, when many kids that age are already talented or with tons of practice made me feel insecure and jealous to be honest.

But, I knew I was on my own and didn’t really had an option. If I wanted my stupid daydreams come true I would need to do it myself. So I basically forced myself into it.

I couldn’t find the notebook where I had my first attempts to draw, but they were terrible (as one would expect). I remember thinking “Oh it cannot be that different from just drawing Sonic, adding a few extra details and change the color” WRONG, it was torture, and I had to learn much more than that. (Anyway I have an old deviantart account where there’s pretty old drawings if you wanna see).

Long story short, I spent some years learning on paper, I improved the story, got a new pc, and by that moment I already got a liking for drawing so I got the stupid idea to get into animation too, along with more complex designs for the character because “well, I guess I’m allowed to do that now”.

However, Sonidy never changed too much. I tried to give her a new image, I really did, but no matter how many accessories added, how different made the shape, I never liked the results.

So I just let her be, with very subtle modifications. After all, who cares, it’s not a recolor if I drew it all myself, right? >:]

And that’s the dumb origin story, don’t cheer at the same time everyone thank you. This text wall is just to clarify why I have a soft spot for this bunch of ugly pixels.

BUT, even if she was meant to be used as an avatar, eventually got separated from me, developing her own personality and traits, and though she still has similarity with me as a person, she’s her own thing now.

So, I’ll tell you some things about her.

Sonidy

A wolf/hedgehog hybrid (how original) with brown fur and green eyes. Naive, usually joyful (make her angry is very easy though) and a very emotional person in general.

She likes to discover/learn new things, spent time with her friends, going on adventures, and though she’s not exactly evil, she’s a bit mischievous and likes to cause trouble. She doesn’t like the part where she has to take responsibility for it.

In-Lore she actually has a reason to look like Sonic and have a similar name. As she’s one of many fangirls of the blue hedgehog (he’s basically some sort of celebrity, like in the original Sonic universe). She has him as a source of inspiration so she mimics his style.

She is between 12-26 years old. It’s a big gap but it’s not because of indecision or something. More like her story begins when she’s 12 years old and at the most recent point I have planned she’s 26. And as a side note: Her appearance and personality changes depending on which point of the plot she is, but let’s take all of the above as a general description.

In the meantime, she lives in an island along with her cousins. Where all kind of things happen.

And as a last useless fact: Sonidy has two stories/timelines. The canon one (the one I’ve worked the most with original characters and stuff). And the alternative (which actually was the initial concept I had planned for her. Where I rather inserted the characters on Sonic’s world. Basically your typical fanfic). I bring this up because after thinking about it for a while, I decided to try and rescue those concepts of the alternative timeline. And this blog is the only place I feel safer to post it.

Some points I’m tired to answer to in flows of DMs:

Many asks or DMs we get as creators are about how to create CC or mods. And it’s really really cool players are so interested in creating their own content and have many great ideas. Sure we can provide some help to some point, or share few tips and tricks or resources, but it’s ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE to teach someone how meshes, textures, tunings etc etc work from A to Z in DMs! Which leads to the 1st point:

Stop being lazy, and READ!

If there are absolutely fantastic tools to help you creating your own TS4 content and making the process easier/faster, there’s no way that without reading tutorials and just by dropping an ask or a DM you’ll be suddenly flowed with all the knowledge about how the game works. Explaining step by step the whole creation process, texture formats, meshing etc etc is insanely time-consuming (btw be super grateful to all the simmers who took the time to share tutorials!) and it’s impossible to be exhaustive via messages. So imagine when you have to repeat all this to 5,10 or 20 different persons... Knowledge is NOT a magic thing which happens by snapping your fingers, you have to work, search, READ, and LEARN. The creator you’re contacting can help you finding the good resources, give you some tips when facing a specific problem, but there’s absolutely no way they can do all the learning and reading for you and in your place.

Sims4Studio is a good place to start learning, there’s plenty very good tutorials there, and most of the issues/questions you’ll face have already been answered there. There’s also Discord servers for creators like Creator Musings.

Know how to use your tools/softwares!

Another point is many people wanna create CC without any knowledge of texture editing or 3D softwares (or modding without any knowledge of Python scripting). Same as 1st point, there’s no way to make you a Blender or Photoshop/Gimp pro via some DMs. You betta work, honey!

Yes it takes time, you won’t be a pro in 2 days, but you’ll feel so happy each time you’ll improve your skills. Have fun in the process of learning, try things, experiment. Making mistakes is how you’ll learn to master your tools and softwares. Same as 1. , there’s plenty tutorials on the Internet depending on the softwares you wanna use.

CC creation or modding isn’t rocket science, but it doesn’t mean it requires no skills at all!

Start with small and realistic projects

The “I wanna create a super complex mod but I know nothing about modding” or “I wanna make a complete hair, outfits etc collection from scratch with no knowledge of Blender or Photoshop”, no, not realistic at all.

Start small, and take the time to do it well! For CC just try a nice recolor for example. Then, once you understood how textures and texture editing work, you can try a retexture (and create normal and specular maps). And create more and more complex things as you’re improving your skills.

(We all started somewhere, my first CC and mods were absolute trash, so don’t feel bad if you don’t succeed at the beginning, that’s ok).

If you start with too ambitious projects you may get easily frustrated to not be able to achieve them like it was in your mind. So stay realistic and take all the time you need to improve your skills. Keep your more complex ideas/projects somewhere in a folder, and go back to them once you’re ready :)

And the most important thing: HAVE FUN!!!

That’s just human nature, learning is much more easier if you’re enjoying what you’re doing. Don’t do a creation because it’s “trending” or because the community asks for it if it’s not your cup of tea. Use your own ideas, don’t be afraid to think outside the box. This is a super creative community, open to very diverse styles and ideas.

Find what makes you happy. Do things you wanna play the game with. Put your heart and personality in your creations :) It may sound cheesy, especially when it comes to a bunch of pixels or scripting, but it is what it is.
