[Frequently Asked Questions]
May I draw whichever character I want? As the purpose of this zine is to include as many characters from the Saint Seiya universe as possible to bring variety into the final product, submission types have the following limitations:
Fanarts: 1 main character per submission (restricted ✪)
Fics: focus on 1-2 main characters per submission (not restricted)
Cosplays: 1 main character per submission (not restricted)
Merch Photographs: 1 main character per submission (not restricted)
Before filling out the sign-up form, check the Taken Character list. For fanarts, you'll input 5 different options, from your top choice to least. Your final selection will be made visible later that day. This is on a First Come, First Served basis.
✪ This means there will be only 1 fanart per character, no duplicates
May I include more than one character in my submission? Yes, as long as there is a clear hierarchy where your chosen character is the main focus. Original Characters (OCs) may also be included in the background as long as they follow this guideline. There is no problem if those secondary characters are already taken, or if the mix of characters would not make sense in the official material (for example, Sasha interacting with Hilda).
May I use spinoff characters? Sure! All characters officially included in the Saint Seiya universe are applicable (except those without an official visual design, like Chronos). Please note that even though there are characters with different versions across the franchise [ex: Aiolia], they are not counted as different options for the Zine, so if said character is already taken, no other version of them will be available. The only exceptions to this rule are Milo (Legend of Sanctuary) and Shaun (Knights of the Zodiac).
I changed my mind about the character I chose, and the new one is still available. Can I switch? To prevent confusion and misunderstandings, all character selections are final and cannot be changed/traded.
Can I switch from one contribution type to another (e.g., fanart to fic) after I signed up? To prevent confusion and misunderstandings, all contribution type selections are final.
Am I allowed to change certain aspects of a character’s official design? It depends on the aspect, and should be reviewed case-by-case.
Example 1: as a Latin American, Io could differ in skin tone to the one seen on the official materials. However, characters like Hagen and Aldebaran, who have darker skin tones, should not be given lighter tones.
Example 2: if due to a personal headcanon, you believe a character has a certain scar or marking that is not seen in official materials, it can be included, but once again, please reach out to Staff for a case-by-case review.
What qualifies as "autumn-themed"? This season is experienced differently all around the world, which is why the theme is broad on purpose. Any activity, scenery, meal, clothing, and celebration that is typical of this season is applicable. That includes (but is not limited to) All Hallow's Eve, Día de Muertos, Thanksgiving, Diwali, leaf color change viewing, and more.
What is the difference between an Alternate Universe [AU] and a Crossover? Some AU use popular tropes as a base, while a Crossover uses an already existing material as base.
Examples:
Popular tropes for an AU: magic school, space fantasy/sci-fi
Existing material: Twisted Wonderland, Mass Effect [games], Little Witch Academia, Star Trek [series], Heralds of Valdemar, Dune [books]
So making a fanwork of the general "Saint Seiya × Magic School" or “Saint Seiya x space fantasy/sci-fi” concepts is an AU, but "Saint Seiya × Twisted Wonderland" or “Saint Seiya x Star Trek” are considered a crossover. In essence, heavy references to other existing fandoms are not allowed. Could you please elaborate on what is/isn’t considered Not Safe For Work (NSFW)? If it is not appropriate for a general, non-specialized office work environment, then it is not accepted.
Examples: ✅ blood depictions/mentions of it ❌ graphic/detailed gore, mutilation, or body horror  ✅ sensual themes (e.g., pin up) ❌ sexual themes (including, but not limited to: genitalia, specifically erotic gestures like blowjob, etc.)
May I submit more than one work?  If, after the sign-up period is over, you would like to collaborate with a second submission, reach out to us. You may send different submission types if you want (e.g., 1 fanart and 1 fic). Please bear in mind the second character must still be available for you to take.
The sign-up timeframe already passed. Can I still join? The extraordinary period is 16-23/Aug. Please check the Taken Character List first to ensure the one you want is available, fill out the form, and contact staff (El Cadejos, Zeuse) so we can add you to the list. After this extraordinary period, sign-up will be officially closed.
May I include a watermark on my submission? Yes, we encourage you to submit already watermarked fanworks to the zine.
I’m a writer! What is an acceptable image for the credits page? You can send an official StS work, fanarts (as long as it is made by you, gifted to you, or commissioned by you), or a picrew-generated image (as long as the picrew allows that use)
What are check-ins? Do I need to send something?  Nope. Our check-ins act as reminders only, so you know exactly how much time you have left to send your submission.
I’m unable to complete my submission and would like to withdraw. Is that okay? Yes, you can withdraw at any time, for any reason (you don’t need to explain). Please just let us know in advance.

(Suggestive/body part related content in preview)

And finally my second preview for @sanguinevampirezine’s ferociously fresh 18+ add on 👀 If you like robots, vampires, and semi-sexual body horror (and are 18 or older) check out the add on content! And if not, check out the rest of the fangtastic works the main zine has to offer!
I had sUch a delight making this piece and I’m sOOOO EXCITED to get to share it auGgh!!! Preorders are open, go grab a copy now!
[ID and transcript: a preview for a zine add on story. The text is stylized, imposed on a red background splattered with blood. It reads: Shuffle Off That Metal Coil, written by Michael H.
He cannot shake the thought once it has taken hold. It is so simple, so right. The vision of fresh mass swelling within him makes L57PA keen in rushes of binary and spiking heat, muffled in the safety of his own mind and the padded walls of a storage closet.
Could his wires pump with more than volts? Could they grow full and warm and squeeze against his gears? Could his servos stain his chassis red with the fresh pink strain of muscle? The images whirr through his mind at night, his exhaust ports blowing in overtime. (End of preview snippet.)
The zine’s info is visible at the top and bottom of the image, reading: Sanguine, An Original Vampire Zine. Pre-orders now open. October 13th to November 26th. /end ID]

Final Reflection
Task 2 was a rollercoaster ride (it was a lot of fun, but I was also scared that I wouldn’t make it to the end). It was a big project, so I will break the reflection into parts.
First up was the collage for which I presented Neville Brody’s quote “typography is a hidden tool of manipulation in society.” I chose this quote partly because I believe it, partly because I love how seriously designers take themselves, and mostly because it sounds cool. I cut the quote down to just 5 words “a hidden tool of manipulation” as the full quote was too long and cluttered the page. I knew I would probably lean towards Postmodernism and grunge in my collage, so when a classmate brought a collection of old art magazines to cut up, I plundered accordingly. I was picky with my letters, collecting letters with a handmade/printed look that were similar sizes and colours. Initially I wanted to make a collage like a hidden objects game so that I could use details as features on different pages of the zine. I tried many iterations of the collage but ultimately felt the images I had weren’t cohesive, so I decided to cut back to only the fortune teller since he tied in nicely with the quote.  I followed Constructivist influences when creating the sunburst and positioning the words. Overall, I love the way the collage turned out, although it is off-centre which really frustrates me – in future I’ll be sure to measure things out properly before cutting them up or gluing them down.

Collage evolution (#DesignIsAnIterativeProcess)
Next up was the monogram, which was the section I struggled with most. Silly as it sounds, I don’t like my name, so I wasn’t keen on investing time into portraying it. Still, I gave it a go- I do appreciate a good monogram (and it was mandatory). I found myself drawn to older monograms; those made by creatives who used traditional making techniques like printing or engraving to sign their works.  Our first monogram exercise tasked us with hand drawing 2 monograms inspired by 3 different font styles.
Tumblr media
Dodgy attempts at hand lettering
Of the styles I experimented with I wound up really liking the blackletter designs, so I sent it to Illustrator using the Adobe Capture app, where I edited it to improve the quality of the vector and position the letters more nicely together. I kept some of the texture of the original drawing to maintain the handmade feeling, but edited enough so it felt refined. My monogram was well made, but could have been more interesting – I really struggled to find ways to weave the letters J and T without it looking like a stick. I am interested in pushing myself on this front to improve my typography and hand lettering skills.

Process of designing final monogram
Tumblr media
Final monogram (in a container)
Finally, all the pieces came together for the zine. I got Covid right in the middle of this project so it was a little hectic for me. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed the making process and felt that it was a great creative exercise.  My font choices were Kiln Sans (sans-serif)- a textured font styled to look like a wood-block print; and P22 Typewriter (serif). Both of these fonts came from the Adobe Fonts library, and both emulated the handmade look that I love. I enjoyed playing with the layouts of the text and tried to develop a look that blended the geometry of Constructivism with the chaos of post-Modernism. That being said, after looking more carefully at the magazine spreads of Greiman and Carson, I could have done with a more careful use of grids in my layouts (particularly on pages 4 and 5). I enjoy learning the Adobe suite so most of the issues I faced during the creation process felt like learning opportunities – except for the problems that made me feel crazy... I'm looking at you printing set-up. It took me four tries to get all the pages printed in the right order, I had to add an extra collage in the middle to make the pages divisible by 4, then the pages printed unaligned. I cut them to size as best as I could, but realised that I definitely need some practice with using bleeds/slugs/etc to achieve the desired results.

Final zine spread, cover to cover
This project (and class overall) has helped me to further develop my own art style, while encouraging me to see a project through to completion – something I really need to work on outside of uni. This process has also deepened my understanding of the history of design, giving context to and (I think) improving the overall quality of my work.

Guidelines and FAQ
Contributor Information:
Contributors must be 18 or older on Dec 1st. No exceptions.
The plan is for all contributors to receive a copy of the zine, and possibly merch depending on profit. Any profit above the operating costs to do this would be split between contributors based on a point value system that will be explained within the server. Any contributors who wish to donate their portion, if any is available, to charity will have that option, either individually or as a group if enough contributors choose to do so.
More under the break
Artists:
The specific requirements regarding page size will be provided once you are accepted and the creation period begins, along with templates if needed. Please be prepared to work in 300 DPI at a size matching (or larger than, providing it scales down correctly) the required size. While you may work in RBG if you wish, your final files will need to be in CMYK. Don’t worry if this is confusing. We’re here to help you and will be happy to provide assistance.
Works will need to be finished, not just sketches. Black and white art may be approved on a case-by-case basis, but full color work is preferred.
There will be a limited number of comics allowed, unless your piece can be contained within one (1) or two (2) pages.
Please be prepared to provide an Image ID with your work to be included in the digital version to benefit those who use screen readers. We will also have a channel in the Discord for requesting assistance with this.
Writers:
Between 800 and 2000 words will be allowed for your fic.
Please be prepared to provide accurate tagging for your work, especially where violence, mature, and explicit content is concerned. We want to respect the needs of our readers by providing them with this information. There will also be a channel in our Discord for requesting assistance with tagging from other contributors if needed.
Your title and tags do NOT count against your word count. That being said, our mods reserve the right to edit tags to conserve space. (Example: a tag of I wrote this instead of sleeping is welcome to be used after exclusivity is up, but it will not be printed in the book. A tag of Loki has PTSD, however, would be acceptable in the printed book.)
All stories must be written in English. If your native tongue is not English, that’s totally okay! We are a worldwide fandom after all! Please just make a note early on, as the head editor will want to make sure to double check sooner rather than later for any phrases in the prose which may need adjusting.
Please make sure your dialogue is in quotation marks, not single or double apostrophes. All quotation marks and any apostrophes used elsewhere in the text should all be “curly” not “straight.” Make sure that quotations appear on the outside of the dialogue INCLUDING the punctuation marks.
If you are accustomed to doing this differently, that’s valid. But this is how we’re formatting for consistency in the printed final product.
More information on formatting will be provided upon acceptance once the creation period begins, but once again, we’re here to help and will be happy to provide assistance.
General Guidelines:
While there may be some leeway with topics, along with tagging, there are certain things that will not be allowed. No snuff, scat, incest, underage content. This list is NOT to be considered complete and individual proposals may still be declined even if they do not include the items on this list.
Certain sensitive topics might be allowed depending upon how they work into the plot. That being said, extreme or excessive homophobia, transphobia, racism, or hate speech will not be permitted. (You will need to be able to get your point across without gratuitous slurs.) Your plot may potentially be approved to use certain elements sparingly to move the story forward, but we will not be allowing these elements to BE the plot.
Fiction is not the same as reality.
These elements (homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, ableism, and hate speech) will NOT be tolerated towards real people whatsoever, inside or outside of the server. Harassment and/or abuse is unacceptable and will NOT be tolerated. This extends beyond the scope of our discord. We want this to be a safe experience. Behavior such as this will result in removal from the project.
Note: We are aware of the controversy regarding Sylvi or Thorki ships, but as this is a Lokius-specific zine, it will not be discussed here. What contributors choose to do outside of the zine, providing it does not violate our codes of conduct towards other people, is their own business. Please be respectful.
The following are contingent upon Mod approval, abiding by the rules, and Lokius (Loki and Mobius) being the focus.
AUs will be allowed. This includes no powers.
You may include any variation of Loki or Mobius. This includes any of the variants on the show, Mr. Tesseract, or any variants you want to create.
With the exception of some MCU content, other fandom crossovers will not be allowed. (Events and characters from the MCU can be referenced and included, but the focus must be Loki and Mobius, even if in an outsider POV.)
All work must be original and created for the zine. Works may not published or posted elsewhere, such as Ao3, Tumblr, etc, prior to the end of the Exclusivity period (TBD).
Collaborations:
Collaborations will be encouraged, but not required. There will be a channel in the zine’s Discord workspace that will allow people who are interested in collaborating with someone else, either writer and artist, artist and artist, writer and writer, etc, to post their intentions and/or respond to the posts of others. Any collaborations will need to be approved the same as any other pitch, but how the work gets done will be between the contributors in the collaboration.
NSFW Content:
Our mods are all seasoned smut writers and artists. We have each worked in both SFW and NSFW zines, and are aware of the different needs of the fandom. We recognize that not everyone wants NSFW content. But some people do.
Most of the other Loki-focused zines that are currently in progress are SFW. We are allowing NSFW ship content here, but in a way that doesn’t make it difficult for those who like ship content, but not smut.
The current plan is to have anything explicit labeled and in its own section at the back of the printed book. For the digital PDF version, we may have a version with NSFW and without, depending on the amount of NSFW content provided.
Cosplay:
Due to the nature of the zine, as we are focusing on ship content and allow for NSFW work, we will not be accepting cosplay contributions. We respect the artistry of cosplay (One of our mods is an avid cosplayer across multiple conventions and fandoms) but with printed merchandise and rules on platforms, we cannot accept photographic nudity or suggestive themes. We hope you understand.
Why Lokius? What about other ships?
This zine is specifically for Lokius/Time Husbands/Wowkie content. This can take many forms, including, but not limited to, platonic, familial, romantic, or just physical. We will not be accepting other ships between Loki and Mobius, though ships between background characters may potentially be allowed so long as the focus is Loki and Mobius.
Your ships are valid and you should be able to enjoy whatever content you like. We were interested in Lokius content, so we started putting together this zine. If there is another ship you would like to see content for, we hope you find that. If not, we encourage you to create that space if you can. That’s what we’re doing here, after all.
Terfs can move along. This is a trans-friendly space.

FAQ
What is a zine?
A zine is short for magazine or fanzine!
The Kinderzine is a fanzine produced for the game Kindergarten 2 by SmashGames, a non-official non-professional project by some dedicated, talented people in this fandom.
It will feature art and stories, and other content about the game + a small portion of fun fandom content like AUs, non-canon ships, and OCs. It will not be spoiler-free.
Overall, it functions mostly as an art book with some stories mixed in.
Will this be free or will I have to buy this zine?
It's completely free! There will be no money earned from this project in any way, and the link will be publicly posted on the intended release date for no cost at all.
What will contributors get out of this?
The satisfaction of doing a fun activity with wonderful people in the fandom! /hj
No but really, you get to take part in creating something really cool that you, me, and all of us can be proud of. You get to have your own finished work when this is all over, along with everyone else's!
No one will be getting paid in money, as this is a volunteer project and the zine is free. But all contributors will get access to the PDF link earlier than the public, and we all generally get to have fun together!
And I hear the skills it takes to work on a zine is a good thing to put on your resume /j
Is this zine digital or will there be physical copies?
Only digital. It will be a PDF on Google Drive, available to view and download at anyone's discretion.
There will be no printing of the Kinderzine, and no shipping of physical copies. There will be no merch (buttons, stickers, keychains, etc) available either; only this zine.
What are the zine specs?
1 full page (and front or back cover): 8.5 x 11 inches 1 half page: 8.5 x 5.5 inches 2 page spread: 17 x 11 inches   2 page connecting cover:  17 x 11 inches + 0.75 inch bleed (a bleed is a border around the image where that area will be cut off from the final (usually printed) product)
300 DPI  |  RGB (not CMYK)  |  Horizontal or vertical  |  you can add a bleed or not, but it's not going to be printed either way
You won't be yelled at or anything if you don't follow the DPI or colour guidelines, but it just makes it easier to put it into the editing software. Full-colour finished artwork is preferred (shading is not mandatory; flat colour is acceptable).
Will there be NSFW content?
This zine is PG13. Content of sexual nature is absolutely not permitted in any form.
Following the canon Kindergarten 2 game, there maybe be things like canon-typical blood, death, violence, or dark humour. These things along with anything else others may find to be 'sensitive topics' will be prefaced with appropriate trigger warnings.
How old do I have to be to apply?
As I said, the zine is PG13. Please be 13 years old or older, if you wish to apply.
If you are almost 13 in a few months or even a few days after the time of the application period, then you are still 12 during the application period and cannot apply. Sorry. If you lie about your age to get in, you will be kicked from the project immediately.
Can I apply for multiple roles?
Absolutely! But please note that the more roles you have, the less work you may have to do on one specific role, as your workload will be distributed across your other roles.
For example: if you are a mod and contributor, you might only be able to draw/write 1-2 things maximum depending on your mod position. Whereas someone who is only a contributor might be able to draw/write 2-3 things maximum, if they wish to do so.
How many contributors will be accepted?
Currently there isn't a specific amount of slots we need for artists or writers!
The amount of contributors required to make this zine happen at all, at the minimum is 11 applicants, regardless of artist or writer. But we would be incredibly happy to have more than that join this project. If there are way more applicants than needed, we may either try to find a way to fit you in, or have to unfortunately exclude some people. Only time will tell :’)
What is the schedule?
The current schedule can be found in [this link]! Dates may be changed in the future, and will be announced to contributors.
What if I need to drop out?
That's perfectly okay! Just please be sure to let one of the mods know as soon as possible so we have time to prepare any rearranging/reorganizing of zine content that might occur after your absence.
Can I post my WIPs/sketches/writing/finished pieces even if the zine isn't published yet?
Yeah that's fine! You own your content and are free to do what you want with it if you're that excited about it.
Can my piece include a ship/AU/OC/headcanon?
If it's one of the main mission/character pieces, then no.
Small headcanons are alright but if they're more obvious and non-canon-based you should talk to me about it first. Canon ships are allowed (Bob x Applegate, Lily x Nugget, Monty x Carla (even if it's kind of unrequited), etc). OCs can be in the background as a cameo, but they can't be the main focus of your work.
If you're doing an additional piece, then yes absolutely! Keep in mind, however, there will be limited slots for these additional pieces.
Can I submit older work created before the production of this zine?
Yes, as long as it fits the page specs, or you don't mind cropping the art so it fits the page specs to a smaller page size!
Older fanfics are fine as is, provided it's canon-based unless you're submitting it as an additional work.
Can I draw/write a different character/mission?
Please ask a mod about this. If we can find someone willing to switch with you, you can.
Don't switch with people more than once, and don't do it without talking to a mod first. If you are going to switch with anyone, you're only allowed to do that before the 2nd check-in date. Anything past that date is not allowed.
What exactly can we draw/write once we're assigned a specific character/mission?
Contributors have the creative freedom to make anything they want within the characters/missions that get assigned.
If that's too broad and you can't think of anything to draw/write, let one of the mods know and we can give you a more specific prompt.
Will there be extensions if I can't finish by the deadline?
Yes! Just let one of the mods know so we can expect your final work at a later date.
Your piece will still need to be finished before the graphics team finishes the early-access PDF. It's greatly preferred that you do finish by the deadline to make this easier for them to finish their job, but if you really can't, that option is available.
If you're unable to finish before the graphics team finishes the final public-ready PDF, your work will, unfortunately, not be included in the zine at that point.
What if I'm a traditional or phone artist and don't know how to keep my art to the page specs?
Traditional artists should be able to either scan their art in high quality, or if taking a picture, take the picture as clear as possible with only/mostly your art within frame; the graphics team will try to take care of sizing.
Phone artists (or really any digital artists) can have canvas templates that are the correct specs, available to copy or download to draw over that I can personally provide for you (though I don't know yet how well this method will work).
If there are any more questions or you need more help, please contact a mod.
If your art is too small, you can try using http://waifu2x.udp.jp/ to enlarge it without hurting the quality too bad.
If it still doesn't fit the aspect ratios, the graphics team can still make it work so don't worry! We really, really prefer that everyone follow the page sizings as much as you can though, unless it's really impossible for you to do so.
Wait, there’s a Discord server? Can I join?
Only if you’re one of the artists or writers who is directly contributing to the zine! Sorry! It’s a private server where those who are directly involved in the zine will be invited.
If you’ve already sent in an application, you will be invited to the server on, or a few days before, the date that applications close. Which will be March 13th, as of writing this, so please be patient until then. The date that invites will be sent out may change, so keep an eye out for that too.
What if I don't have a Discord and can't join the Discord server?
That's perfectly fine! You don't have to make an account or join the server if you don't want to either.
As long as you have an e-mail, or a social media account that one of the mods have + the ability for us to private message you, we will keep you updated on anything Kinderzine related!
The server is really just a way for us all to communicate with each other, mods and contributors alike, and keep in touch with the mods more accessibly. But the important stuff will still be communicated with you, and if you contact a mod somewhere other than Discord, we'll get to your message as soon as possible.
Please direct any other questions not on the FAQ to either the Discord server’s #zine-questions channel, or this blog’s/my main blog’s ask box or private messages.

Muku stared intensely at his phone as he checked for the umpteenth time that he had set his alarm properly. Seeing that the numbers really did read ‘3:00am’, he locked his phone and placed it beside his pillow.
“Ugh. I swear I can still taste the tabasco in my mouth even though I brushed my teeth,” Tenma groaned as he entered the tent.
“Did anyone get a normal chocolate for the s’mores?” asked Kazunari, looking up from his phone.
“Izumi liked hers!” Misumi chimed in.
“That’s just because she’s a crazy Currian! No one would normally like a curry-flavoured chocolate,” Yuki snapped back.
“Anyway, everyone’s here, right? I’m gonna turn off the lights,” Tenma announced. “We have to get up early tomorrow, so we should sleep now.”
A flurry of mumbled goodnights flew around the tent as their leader turned off the lamp. Before long, the air was filled with the sounds of heavy breathing and light snoring.
However, sleep continued to elude Muku as he stared fretfully at the ceiling of the tent—his brain whirring with his anxieties. Though the Summer Troupe’s first two plays had gone well, deep down, Muku felt that he had barely squeaked by with his performances. He knew that he was still the weakest link, and was terrified of dragging everyone else down.
Just once, Muku wished he could give back to the ones who continually helped him so much. But, he didn’t even have any special skills—like Yuki or Kazunari—that he could put to use for the Summer Troupe or the Mankai Company.
So, when Izumi had first announced this training camp, Muku had immediately volunteered to be one of the organizers, even though he had never taken on such a role before. At the time, it had seemed like the perfect opportunity to prove himself and be helpful to the others. Surely, even someone as untalented as him could manage to do this much.
Inspired by a scene out of a shoujo manga, Muku had manically researched to formulate a grand plan. First, they would strengthen their bonds as they hiked side-by-side through bountiful nature. Then, they would share a heart-racing special moment together as the rising sun etched its image into their memories. Plus, with the fresh mountain air, he was sure they would get more mileage out of their vocal exercises.
However, when they had gathered to discuss the itinerary, his excitement had quickly been extinguished when his plan had been met with unenthusiastic faces. Some of the Company members hadn’t seemed interested in witnessing the sunrise, and many others had groaned about the early start time.
After the meeting, Citron had clapped him on the shoulders, looked him in the eyes with a mysterious, all-knowing smile and said: “Do not worry, Muku! Your idea is most wonderful! Everyone will be super duper happy when they see the sun grating them! I will make sure of it—trust me!”
Though his brain continued to worry and fret, Muku clung to the words and reassuring grin that the Zahran man had given him that day and allowed the darkness to finally lull him to sleep…
The next morning, with much struggle—along with Citron banging some pots and pans together—the two organizers managed to wake up their fellow troupe members and line them up outside of their tents. Though, they may as well have still been laying in their sleeping bags. Masumi was draped on top of Tsuzuru’s back, fast asleep. Itaru was crouched on the ground, muttering to himself with a half-dead expression on his face. Even the ever-chipper Kazunari had his chin propped on Misumi’s shoulder, both of them nodding off despite being on their feet.
Citron came to stand beside Muku and nudged him gently. With a gulp, the pink-haired boy mustered all of his courage and stood up as straight and tall as he could manage.
“G-Good morning, everyone! Thanks for waking up so early to join us for the first item on our itinerary today: the ‘Heart-Pounding Sunrise Trek of Bonding!’” Muku announced. “I know that it’s silly to want to follow someone who’s more annoying than the itchiest bite from a mosquito that arrived earlier than the usual mosquito season—”
“Muku, literally no one said that,” Yuki interrupted with a sigh. “Just lead the way.”
“O-Oh right! S-Sorry!” Muku responded, snapping out of his rant. “P-please follow me and watch your step!”
As Muku led the way to the forest trail, with the others shuffling groggily behind him, he couldn’t help but cringe as he heard someone yawn loudly and another person let out a groan.
“Ugh, this sucks…”
“Masumi, stop it! The Director wouldn’t be happy to hear you say that,” Sakuya protested in a hushed tone. “Look! She’s enjoying herself, so you should copy her.”
Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea, after all… Muku thought to himself, worrying at his bottom lip.
“Muku, why don’t you tell everyone about the path?” Citron suddenly said from behind him. “Did you not do lots of the research?”
“Really, Mukkun?” Kazunari asked, perking up and looking more awake than earlier.
“O-Oh, yes! Apparently, this path dates back to the Sengoku era. Monks used it as part of a pilgrimage route and this campsite actually used to be an aesthetic training ground,” Muku explained.
“That’s actually really cool,” Tsuzuru remarked. “Who knew that there was so much history in a place like this!”
“Ah! That signpost there marks the quarter-way point! We can take a quick rest here!” Muku explained, noticing that they had lost a few members.
“I-I can’t go on…” Itaru wheezed as he finally caught up to the others several minutes later.
“C’mon Itaru, we’re almost there! You can do it!” Izumi chirped encouragingly, passing the salaryman a bottle of water.
“It’s okay, Itaru! You will soon have your senses delighted by a surprise up ahead! Tell them about it, Muku,” Citron implored.
“Y-Yes! Ummm… Just down this path is a beautiful waterfall that the monks used as part of their training,” Muku responded, taking the older man’s cue. “I… I actually purposely picked this path because it would take us by the waterfall. Legend says that, if you make a wish there, your deepest desires will come true! So, I thought that you would really like to see that, Itaru! Maybe it’ll help with your next gacha pull in your games!!”
“Seriously? Maybe this won’t be so bad after all.”
Muku felt his heart flutter as the others started chattering excitedly about what wishes they would make. With this renewed vigour, their group continued on their hike, making a stop at the wish-granting waterfall on the way.
Then, almost an hour after they had left their campsite, Muku spotted the sign marking their final destination.
“We’re here, everyone!”
There was a collective sigh of relief as the members of the Mankai Company cleared the last steps and planted their feet on the plateau. However, their mutters quickly died in their throats as they came face-to-face with the view before them. A forest of trees spread out endlessly ahead, surrounded on both sides by jagged cliffs. The sun peeked above the horizon of the valley and the sky was dyed a gorgeous blend of soft oranges, pinks and straggling blues.
“Amazing!” Sakuya breathed softly. “This is beautiful, Muku!”
“Beautiful doesn’t even begin to describe it!!” Kazunari added, immediately taking out his phone.
“You did good, Muku. Here’s a triangle!” Misumi said with a smile, handing the pink-haired boy a smooth and shiny triangular-shaped rock.
“Yeah… It made waking up worth it,” Masumi murmured, showing a rare smile.
“This was great, Muku. Thanks for planning this for us,” Tenma said, punching him lightly in the arm.
“Yeah, seriously! I’m so glad that someone was able to plan a normal activity for this training camp. Unlike a certain someone’s crazy ‘Russian Roulette S’mores’ idea,” Tsuzuru said with a sigh, throwing a baleful glare at Citron.
“Oh, Tsuzuru! You wound me! I put so much thought into making an unforgiveable event for everyone!”
“I think you mean ‘unforgettable’,” Itaru piped in.
“Look here, it’s not ‘Russian Roulette’ if all of the options are weird!” Tsuzuru exclaimed in exasperation.
“No kidding! I can’t believe I had to eat that awful wasabi chocolate because of you! I thought my mouth was on fire!” Yuki added, jabbing a finger into Citron’s chest angrily. “You’re lucky this sunrise made up for that atrocious game!”
As Citron dramatically crumpled to the ground from Yuki’s attack, a hand clutched over his heart, he turned his head towards Muku and shot him a wink.
At that moment, Muku felt a rush of warmth surge out of his chest and envelope the rest of his body. As he suppressed the tears prickling behind his eyes, Muku thought that he could now truly understand the meaning behind all of those times his shojo manga had compared someone’s smile to the brightness of the sun.
Tumblr media
Writing this story was such a fun challenge for me! I had to work with a word count restriction, but I also wanted to make sure I somehow included every other character from the event — so it was definitely a juggling act, haha! It was also my first time writing about both Muku and Citron, so that was a new challenge in itself. Especially since I wanted to make sure I did two of my favourite characters justice!! In the end, I'm really happy I had the opportunity to write this and am so thankful that I was able to be part of this zine! Again, do check out the full zine if you have a chance!|
As always, thank you for reading and feel free to leave a comment if you have any thoughts!! Any reblogs are always appreciated!!

As Long as You’ll Have Me
Fandom: Boku no Hero Academia/My Hero Academia Rating: Teen Pairing: Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead/Toshinori Yagi | All Might (EraserMight) Note: Originally my piece for the Erasermight zine that was cancelled, now gets to be my piece for Erasermight Day 2020! Warning for mentions of blood
Shouta kicks at him.“I can’t believe you made me get in the shower at three in the morning."
One hand cradling Shouta’s chin, Toshinori spreads antibiotic ointment over the cut and places a bandage over it. “You could have saved us both the trouble if you had at least tried to clean up first. Or slept on the couch.”
AO3: (X)
It takes Toshinori ages to fall asleep on his own. Falling asleep has always been difficult for the retired hero. He’s full of a restless, endless kind of energy he could never quite completely sate even after a long day of hero work, and the older he got, the more complications he had with his health and his running thoughts. Shouta made things easier, somehow. Reassuring and soothing in his own astute, stubborn, pragmatic kind of way.
So, on nights when Shouta works, falling asleep takes ages. And it is both unsurprising, and incredibly frustrating when Toshinori startles awake, after what feels like only a few minutes of sleep. He lies still for a moment, cataloguing the differences in the room and what could have woken him, realizing belatedly it is probably thanks to the wet, heavy form suddenly pressing against his back.
“Shouta?”
The form groans an affirmative.
He chuckles, relieved by the easy answer to his concern, and glances over his shoulder. In the dark he can’t make out any more than the general lump that is Shouta, hanging half off the bed next to him. His capture weapon lies almost entirely unwound in a pile next to him.
“Why are you all wet? I didn’t think it was supposed to rain tonight.”
“Didn’t rain,” Shouta grunts.
“What? Then why are you all wet?”
Shouta doesn’t answer and Toshinori sits up, ignoring the whined protest as Shouta slumps further onto the bed. Leaning over, he turns on a bedside lamp. The light is dim, but it still stings his eyes as it comes on; even Shouta flinches at the change–despite being face-down in the mattress.
At first there’s nothing startling about the image of the dark-haired hero lying sprawled in such a way, or rather there’s nothing unfamiliar about it, but then he sees the color pooling under him.
Toshinori reaches for him. “Is that blood?”
“Not mine.” Shouta grunts again, words muffled by the blankets.
Toshinori tosses the blankets off himself, all but leaping from the bed.
Shouta says something else, but Toshinori can hardly make out the sound, let alone piece together the words between his exhausted slurring and the buffer of fabric under him.
Grabbing him under the arms, Toshinori hauls him off the bed.
That wakes him, and Shouta squirms in his hold. “What are you doing?”
“You’re getting in the shower, right now.”
Shouta sags against him, not making any move to get away, but certainly not making the trek to the bathroom any easier. “I just want to sleep.”
Toshinori ignores his whining, kicking open the bathroom door and pushing on the light switch with his elbow. Shouta flinches again at the harsher light, but still doesn’t fight Toshinori’s hold, letting him manhandle him into the walk-in shower. Toshinori hits the lever to turn the water on. Shouta sways unsteadily under the spray, but he doesn’t immediately fall over, so Toshinori considers it a win.
“Take off your jumpsuit,” He orders. “Just leave it in the shower for now. I’ll be back in a moment.”
He strips the soiled sheets off the bed, tossing them into the corner to be dealt with later. In the morning he’ll regret it, but for now he has more pressing concerns. What’s one more blood stain anyways?
He hangs Shouta’s capture weapon as best he can on its hook on the wall – made for easy, emergency access – but it needs to be washed before he can let the filthy thing anywhere near Shouta’s face again. He pulls a clean fitted sheet onto the mattress and grabs a few spare blankets from the closet before he returns to the bathroom. Shouta’s only managed to get his jumpsuit half-off, but at least he tried, which is more than Toshinori can get from him some nights.
The water falling off him runs red and brown.
Stripping off his own light-weight sleep clothes, Toshinori joins him in the shower. Carefully, he helps peel the jumpsuit the rest of the way off, kicking it to the corner of the shower. Shouta sags against him as he reaches for shampoo, but Toshinori can already feel him becoming more alert under the spray.
“How does this even happen?” He asks, though not expecting much of an answer as he pours a generous amount of soap onto Shouta’s head.
“Explosion and regeneration quirk duo.”
He grimaces, working the soap into Shouta’s hair. The lather turns a dark, rusty color under his hands. “That sounds… well, dreadful, honestly.”
Shouta snorts against his shoulder. “No kidding.”
Toshinori pushes him further under the spray, tilting his head to catch the most of it, and waits until the water finally runs clear before he pulls Shouta back and pours more shampoo into his hands. He washes his hair once more, just to be safe.
Toshnori lathers up a washcloth with body wash and nudges it into Shouta’s hand. “Wash yourself off.”
Shouta only grunts in reply, but he takes the washcloth.
Toshinori grabs conditioner, pouring a generous amount onto the ends of Shouta’s thick hair.
He lets silence settle over them as he combs his fingers through Shouta’s hair, wincing in sympathy as he hits a particularly nasty snag. Shouta, however, seems unbothered. The quiet breaks only once for Shouta to ask for more body wash.
He can tell Shouta’s more awake by the time Toshinori finally deems him clean enough by the way dark eyes follow him around the bathroom as he slings a towel around his own waist before dropping one over Shouta’s head and wrapping a second one around him, but Shouta still lets Toshinori fuss over him, and guide him to sit on the edge of the bathtub.
“Stay there, I'm getting the first aid kit.”
“I'm fine.”
“Shut up.”
Shouta huffs a quiet laugh, somewhere between fond and exasperated, and shuts up.
First aid kit in tow, Toshinori crouches before Shouta, looking him over for the most pressing injuries, and ignoring the pointed look he gets for the way his knees pop as they bend. There's a scrape on Shouta’s cheek, and similar, small cuts scattered over his arms. The worst of it seems to be the already-darkening purple bruise curling around his ribs and over his shoulder, and a jagged cut on his leg.
Toshinori starts with his leg, settling onto the floor with a damp cloth to clean the wound, Shouta’s foot propped in his lap.
“This should really have stitches,” he mutters, even as he grabs a handful of butterfly closures from the kit.
“It’s fine.”
Toshinori rolls his eyes rather than arguing. He finishes wrapping Shouta’s calf in gauze, and looks up with an overly sweet smile. Shouta kicks at him with his uninjured leg.
“I can’t believe you made me get in the shower at three in the morning,” he mutters, as Toshinori moves from his leg to his cheek.
One hand cradling Shouta’s chin, he spreads antibiotic ointment over the cut and places a bandage over it. “You could have saved us both the trouble if you had at least tried to clean up first. Or slept on the couch.”
“You would have wondered where I was,” Shouta sighs, and it sounds like a complaint, even as he nudges Toshinori’s leg, so he knows it’s not. “And the last thing Eri needs to wake up to is me covered in guts on the couch.”
Toshinori makes a face. “Oh, only I get that privilege?”
“You can handle it, better than a six-year-old, anyways.”
Toshinori huffs but doesn’t protest. Getting to his feet, he settles between Shouta’s legs to towel off his hair. Shouta reaches out to grab his hip. It’s not a particularly strong touch, but it’s grounding, cementing the two of them in this moment together. The silence is warm and comfortable; and Toshinori can't help but think, even as his eyes sting from being woken suddenly from an already short sleep, and his pulse is only just now back to normal from his initial shock and horror of seeing Shouta return home exhausted and bloodied, that this is what happiness-at least his happiness-feels like; being able to savor this simple moment in time with someone he loves.
“Let’s get married.”
Toshinori chokes on a cough, biting his tongue in the process. He stumbles back, hiding his face in the crook of his arm, just to be safe. The last thing they need is for Shouta to be covered in yet another person’s blood for the night.
Shouta, meanwhile, hasn’t moved at all, his arm still out-stretched, as if Toshinori hadn’t stepped away, though the towel has fallen from his head. He matches Toshinori’s wide-eyed look with one of his own, as if he is just as surprised by the words that have come from his mouth.
“What?” Toshinori asks when he’s sure it’s safe for him to speak, hesitantly lowering his arm.
Shouta’s shoulders hunch and he ducks his head, but there’s no scarf to hide in like there is when he’s dressed. Toshinori can see the ends of his hair start to lift as he glances around the bathroom, as if looking for an answer, or somewhere to hide, a familiar compliment to the faint flush to his cheeks.  “I mean… do you want to get married?...Eventually?”
“To you?”
Shouta arches a brow, his surprised expression transforming into something a little more familiar as his hair settles back around his shoulders. “I’m sorry, did you have someone else in mind?”
Toshinori sputters, finally crossing the distance between them once again. “Of course not! I just… didn’t,” his hand goes to cradle Shouta’s jaw again, and Shouta’s hand settles back on his hip but his grip is tighter now, as if he truly had anything to worry about with Toshinori’s slip or him slipping away. “Did you mean it?”
“I did,” Shouta admits. “I didn’t think it would come out today, or like that. But I’ve thought about it before.”
Toshinori feels like his world is spinning. “Really?”
“I love you, Toshinori. And maybe neither of us planned this, but we've made a life together. We’re raising a child together,” he shakes his head. “Hell, we’re raising multiple children. Why shouldn't we?”
Toshinori doesn't have the words, doesn't know if he'll ever have the words to properly express his awe, how he never expected to have even a fraction of this life they’ve made together, let alone get married, or have a family, but he surges forward, holding Shouta's face between his hands to kiss him senseless. They teeter precariously on the edge of the tub, but Shouta reacts just in time to save them from a painful tumble into the porcelain, throwing his arms around Toshinori's shoulders and pushing his weight against him. Toshinori takes it in stride, stepping back to accommodate and pulling Shouta off the tub. They stumble for a few feet before they bump and settle against the sink. It’s as good a place as any to catch their breath.
Shouta pushes Toshinori’s bangs behind his ears. “So, I’m assuming I can take that as a yes?”
Toshinori can’t help himself as he laughs, pressing another quick kiss to Shouta’s lips, and then the tip of his nose and the top of his head, for good measure. “Of course, my love,” he whispers into still-damp hair, savoring the scent of their shared shampoo, of the feeling of Shouta in his arms and his strong hands against his back.
They stumble back to bed, hands straying against naked bodies, but exhaustion hovers over them, lulling their sudden excitement to something soft and gentle. They both drift off to sleep within minutes of climbing into bed. They’ve both been falling asleep easier and sleeping better since getting together, not just Toshinori, and only in this moment does that suddenly seem like a bad thing.
In the morning, when sunlight pools in through the window, the curtains left open from Shouta’s late night entrance, Toshinori is the first to wake. The warm rays brush against his face in a gentle caress. Shouta lies beside him, bathed in the light but seemingly unaware of its warm touch or the way he glows under it.
He doesn’t look particularly comfortable, on his back with one arm shoved under the pillow and another stretched out between them, but comfort has never seemed to be Shouta’s biggest concern. Toshinori follows the sunbeams dancing across his lover (his fiancé now?) – trailing over a relaxed, calloused palm and up the pale expanse of his arm. He presses a soft kiss to the crook of his elbow, fingers brushing gently over the edges of the scar left by Shigaraki.
When he looks up, Shouta is watching him through hooded eyes.
“What are you doing?”
Toshinori continues on, pressing a kiss to his bicep, and another to his shoulder before he noses against his chin. “Good morning, love.”
“You have morning breath,” Shouta complains, nose wrinkling in displeasure.
Toshinori snorts, ignoring the complaint as he leans over for a kiss. “Yours is worse. At least I brushed my teeth last night.”
“Then you definitely shouldn’t be kissing me,” Shouta replies, even as he tilts his chin up to meet Toshinori.
Toshinori gives him nothing more than a quick peck before he starts to pull away. Shouta’s hand comes out from under his pillow before he can get much distance, pulling him back down for a proper kiss. Toshinori’s smug smile interrupts things a few times, but Shouta learned ages ago how to fix or work around such a problem.
Eventually, they break apart so Toshinori can catch his breath. Shoving his pillows against the headboard, he shifts to lean against it. Shouta stays prone besides him, reaching out to trace random patterns against his arm.
Shouta clears his throat suddenly, breaking the silence, and pulling his hand back. “Did I have a strangely vivid dream, or did I actually ask you to marry me when I came back last night?”
Toshinori nearly flinches at the question. He looks away, hopefully fast enough for Shouta not to see the flash of hurt in his eyes. He coughs, once, clearing his throat. “Not in so many words, but yes, that happened. If you didn’t mean…” Toshinori struggles to find the words he wants, without showcasing rather clearly the sinking feeling in his chest. “Rather, I understand if… Shouta?” Toshinori trails off as Shouta wordlessly slips out of bed and pads across the room to their shared dresser, crouching to access the bottom drawer– the one Toshinori never bothers with.
After rummaging around for a few moments, he pulls something out and returns to the bed, slipping back under the sheets. He cradles a small, black box between his hands.
“I kept thinking,” Shouta sighs, looking moments away from rubbing at his temples like he does when he has a particularly difficult student or a frustrating fight. “I thought, eventually, I would figure out something profound to say, or a special way to ask, because you deserve at least that much, Toshinori. Even just once. I certainly didn’t think I would just blurt it out, in the middle of the night, after you had just spent the last thirty minutes washing someone else’s blood out of my hair.”
“Shouta…” Toshinori reaches for him, but Shouta holds up a hand, requesting patience, a moment to collect his thoughts, and Toshinori’s hand drops back between them.
Eventually, Shouta reaches over and grabs his hand. “I love you, Toshinori. This is it for me. For as long as you’ll have me, and all my bad habits, late nights and shitty moods, I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” Letting go of him once more, Shouta opens the box in his hands, turning it to face Toshinori.
A thin gold band sits nestled in a bed of velvet.  The surface is a plain, bright gold, but when Toshinori looks closer, he sees a pattern etched into the inside of the ring.
“Is that a-”
“Sunflower.”
When Toshinori looks up again, Shouta is watching him with a familiar, awkward look, which he thinks is supposed to be a smile but looks more like a grimace, that he wore the first time he asked Toshinori out for drinks with the clarification that it was actually a date this time, and again when he suggested they move in together, because Toshinori’s apartment was bigger and Eri needed her own room, and they spent all their time together anyways. It’s one of Toshinori’s favorite expressions.
“The simple band felt like too…little for you,” Shouta mutters when Toshinori still doesn’t say anything else. “But I wasn’t sure what…nothing else seemed-”
“It’s perfect.”
“Really?”
“Shouta,” Toshinori leans over, cupping Shouta’s face. The ring box falls out of his hands between them as Toshinori pulls him into a kiss that has Shouta grasping desperately at his shoulders, blunt nails digging sharp and familiar into his skin. He tries to pour everything can’t say now into the kiss, but they’ll have the rest of their lives together for him to show and tell and prove to Shouta everything he can’t in this moment. “Let’s get married.”

The first time I saw Adam Yeater’s work I was struck by the blobby. organic shapes and bright colours strewn over the page. It was full of noise and clutter, just incredibly exciting with lively art filling up a page.
His work is clearly a modern take on classic underground comix; full of extreme, gaudy and sometimes savage images . It delivers its punk trash thrills with verve and invention.
He also posts no youtube, showing his collection of smallpress comics, mini comics and zines.
Slit Mouth Woman in a Hoodie – Adam Yeater Header
  You can find Adam here
webstore                youtube                facebook
  Over to Adam
Can you tell us a bit about the first creator whose work you recognised?
I guess it would be the MAD artist Don Martin. I was really into those big foot businessmen he would draw. They looked so professional and ridiculous at the same time.
Don Martin
Spy vs Spy by Antonio Prohias
Which creators do you remember first copying?
Prohias the Spy Vs Spy creator. I loved to trace his strips. Joe Kubert’s jungle and war comics too.
Page from Our Army at War #217 art by Joe Kubert
Who was the creator that you first thought ‘I’m going to be as good as you!’?
Frazetta maybe but we are just in different worlds. Our styles are so different and he did not do a lot of comics really. I have always been in awe of that painterly style.
The Barbarian by Frank Frazetta
Which creator or creators do you currently find most inspiring?
Sadly not a whole lot in comics right now. The medium is kind of stagnant. American comics are way too english centric. It is a bunch of dopey white dudes who love to grandstand instead of make good comics. Everyone is making comics to be like movies. I wanna make and see comics that can’t be made into film. Comics that do things only comics can do. Instead most modern comic books read like 1980s TV serials. Way too much dialogue with very little action. Comic book writers have bored everyone to death for long enough. It is time for artists to breathe life into the medium again.
Which creators do you most often think about?
Lately as I get older I think more and more about the old dudes. I think about the creative freelancer who dedicated their life to working on some shitty superhero comic. Signing away any future prosperity because they wanted to provide for their families. I think of the artist that is now penniless living without health care while some asshole corporation reaps billions off their creations. That is who I think about.
Can you name the first three creative peers that come into your head and tell a little bit about why?
Hideshi Hino, Jim Woodring and Tim Vigil.  I want to make comics like theirs. Stuff that pushes boundaries. I wanna make surreal horror comics with style. Shit nobody has seen before.
Hideshi Hino
Moonlighter by Jim Woodring
Faust page by Tim Vigil
Finally, can you tell us a bit about your recent work and yourself?
I am currently working on two ongoing comic books. World of Knonx and Blood Desert. World of Knonx is a more mainstream title about smurf type creatures who fight robotic invaders over a magical resource. Blood Desert is a dark humor comic. It is non-stop action and gore.
Lake of Korz – part of the World of Knonx
I can be found all over social media. I also have a YouTube channel called Small Press Express that focuses on independent and mini comics.

PROJECT PROPOSAL [FMP]
BA (Hons) Photographic Arts
MAJOR PROJECT PROPOSAL
BLOG:
https://nathanielbrennan.tumblr.com/archive
Name:  Nathaniel Brennan
Project Title (or working title)
Who’s that?
Subject / Concept
(What the project is about?)
The subjects for this project will be a small group of very unique individuals. Friends of mine who come from very different ways of life to the everyday person. Either down to the culture surrounding them (the area they lived) / people surrounding them at a young age, and in some cases even family. The irony is they are about a certain way of life even now in their older years as well as young, but at a much lower level now. A life of violence and crime.  At the moment they are fighting through the system, on the path to a straighter way of life through their creative passions.
‘Who’s that?’ Is a project also exploring stereotypical judgment within society, whether that's gender, appearance, skin colour, the tone of voice, showcasing how one shouldn’t stereotype based on opaque factors. Irrelevant factors that lead to stereotypical judgments straight off the bad, whether that's in public on the streets/interactions or even places of work.
Who’s that? Plays on that idea of others stereotyping individuals before they’ve met them, avoiding them based on what they’re wearing/talk like/look like/sound like.
Aims
In this project the aim to give the viewer insight into a very interesting, unique group of creative individuals with the hope of dousing the urge for stereotypical judgment at first sight.
I'm hoping to create a first impression scenario [portraits&closeups] playing on the fact common people would not necessarily get so up close and to these individuals If they saw them on the street (small images) With other works surrounding to create an immersive ambience indulging the viewer with these peoples personas and philosophies [zines/audio files/question&answer/music files]
Context / Audience
The Exhibition, hopefully, will be exhibited at the Truman Brewery In Shoreditch, If we raise enough money. The audience is an exciting one for me. I hope all ages and different types of people get to see this project. I feel stereotypical judgments are made daily, by everyone. People shouldn’t assume the worse of someone based on first appearances or views from afar.
Proposed form, medium, presentation
My installation will consist of three different mediums. The first, black&white medium format 120 film darkroom prints. Small in size, small enough for the viewer to get up close and personal with. There will be three in total. A close up of their face [top] close up of their hands [middle] and a full body portrait [bottom]. I want this to be the first thing the audience look at, creating a first encounter type situation, but one where they would get much closer to the individual than they would on the street.
Accompanying the portraits of the individuals will be small zines containing documentary images of a day in the life of each subject. “dayinthalife’
Next, I’m looking to add a compiled audio file [possible three to five minutes long/maybe longer] of conversations in regards to the concept and life attitudes in general. Voices over a music beat I feel suitable for the project, possibly one of my subjects produced
At the same time of wanting to produce a compiled audio file, I'm also between the idea of making a book, high-quality zine. Filed with a personal story of each individual, further images and Q&A section with relevant questions.
Then finally, I want to showcase the individual's creative talent, now that could be illustration work, lyrics or beat production. Maybe even combine a few if correlate. I'm in two minds on how to present my last section but after gathering more work I’m sure my decision will become much easier.

Welcome to the magic zine which focuses on your original characters in a magical universe! The zine is looking for artists and writers! The zine will be sent to print and I will aim to send every contributor a free copy but if the profits do not allow it, contributors will be asked to pay for split shipping!!
About:
Hello, this is an original zine focussing on your original characters in the fantastical world of magic! As this is an original zine, any of your OCs are welcome but they must fit the theme of magic. If you don’t have any magical OCs, you can put them into an AU!!
This zine will be open for applicants from both artists and writers alike! There will be spaces for 15 artists and 4 writers. The reason behind such a small number of applicants is because the zine will be offering each artist to do up to three pieces: one sketch, one full illustration with a background and one other image you would like to draw. For writers, there will be an option to make two pieces: one world-building piece and one full piece with your characters! For writers, the total word count should not exceed 3,000 words. That means that if you create two pieces, they should both add to 3k words!
I will also be looking for a cover artist for the zine! If you wish to apply as cover all you have to do is apply as a zine artist and simply tick the “Yes” box when the cover question comes up!! There will also be one spot for a bookmark artist and bookmark writer! The artist should be able to incorporate the theme into a general idea and the writer should not write more than 100 words for the bookmark! The bookmark artist and writer will be chosen from the accepted contributors.
If possible, when applying, send in at least one full illustration of the OC you wish to create for the zine if you’re an artist and at least one 500 word sample of the OC you wish to write for/universe you would like to write for when applying as a writer!
Please do not use anyone else’s OC for this zine! Even if you have permission from the OC’s creator, this zine is specifically for the contributors OCs. With that said, collaborations will not be allowed unless both the contributor’s OCs are present in both pieces! Any of the OCs you use in this zine must be from their own universe! OCs from an already existing series will not be accepted.
Schedule:
Applications open: July 10th
Applications close: August 1st
Check in 1: August 15th
Check in 2: August 30th
Check in 3: September 15th
Final deadline: October 5th
Preorders open: October 10th
Preorders close: December 10th
Schedule is subject to change!
FAQ:
What is a zine?
A zine is a collaborative anthology that can feature both art and writing. They often have a theme (like this zine’s magical theme).
Who can apply?
Anyone with an OC they want to show off is allowed to apply as long as the OC is yours and belongs to their own universe!
How can I apply?
Applications open on July 10th and when they open, there will be a link to the application form in a post as well as in the about section!
How many people will be accepted?
I aim to accept 15 artists, 1 cover artist and 4 writers in order to keep the page count below 100!!
Is this for-profit or for charity?
This zine will be for profit, any profits made will be first and foremost used in order to print the book. The goal is for every contributor to get a free book with free shipping but in case things go awry, there are currently three solutions.
The first is that, if we do not break even in order to offer free shipping, we will ask the contributors to pay split shipping so everyone pays the same amount of money for shipping.
The second is that we offer the book at production cost so everyone will have to pay for the book and shipping. This option means that there will probably be more money to split between the contributors!
The third is that the contributors pay the full price. This option is the one I like the least and therefore will be steering clear from but it is an option regardless.
We will be sending a PDF version of the book to all our contributors along with the physical copy and everything else!
Will there be any merch?
As this is an original zine, merch may be difficult to make but my aim is to have at least one bookmark that is universal and fits the theme!! This bookmark would come with every order.
If I get accepted, can I opt out of receiving the book/getting paid?
If you wish to not receive any compensation/only the book/money then that is perfectly okay! As much as we would love for all the contributors to get compensated, we understand that sometimes you can’t be sent money/a physical copy of the book for personal reasons. We will, however be sending everyone a PDF version of the zine regardless!
How old do I have to be to apply?
There is no age limit to apply but I ask that everyone who applies is comfortable interacting with people of a younger/older age! There will be a discord server open for all contributors interested in joining.
Specs:
Artists
Up to three pieces: one a concept sketch, one a full illustration and one more for either a concept sketch or a full illustration!
The art must be sent in both CMYK and RGB format!
All art must be 300 DPI
The art should be 148mm in width and 210mm in length with a 3mm bleed all around (154mm in width and 216mm in length!)
Full illustrations must have a background as well as shading!!
Writers:
Up to two pieces: one for world-building, one for a full piece.
The overall word count of both pieces combined must not exceed 3,000 words!
All works must be proof read! If you do not have any means to proof read please feel free to ask either the mod or someone in the discord server!

CRT Glow and Cabinet Covers
gen || 80′s arcade au || 6667 words
If Midoriya had to pick a place where he could spend the rest of his life, he would have to pick All Might’s Arcade.
This was my piece for the @bnha-levelup zine! It was so great to work with such talented people!
[ AO3 ]
If Midoriya had to pick a place where he could spend the rest of his life, he would have to pick All Might’s Arcade.
He’s not quite sure why. It could be something about the psychedelic, swirling purple and green and blue carpets; or how when he goes in there, time seems to stop completely and turn into a haze of white, blue and yellow flashes coming from the CRT monitors he sits or stand in front of; or, maybe, how he always goes home with agitated wrists, sore fingers, and a bubbling sense of pride for beating that one level that he’d been stuck on for ages.
Then there was All Might himself, the dude who ran the entire place. Yagi Toshinori. He was a brilliant gamer with reflexes far above his peers in his prime. Now, due to carpal tunnel syndrome, he resigned himself to running the sort of place he would’ve liked to visit when he was younger. A haven for gamers.
Midoriya thought he was doing a pretty good job.
When Midoriya tells him this, nestled in the backroom nursing a plastic cup of soda with a swirly straw, Toshinori laughs. “That’s sweet, kid,” he says. “Really. But I wouldn’t call this place a haven, not by any means.”
Toshinori looks around and Midoriya knows he’s picking out the slightly-peeling wallpaper, and the dark brown soda stain on the carpet by the Pacman machine, and the place where the windows don’t quite match because one of the panes ended up getting smashed by some stupid kid with a big attitude. When Midoriya looks around he doesn’t see all that, but he knows Toshinori can’t help but see all the flaws.
“If you’re really worried about the wallpaper get it redone.” Midoriya suggests before he takes a small sip of his drink. “Or, take it all down and paint a massive mural of all the arcade cabinet characters.”
Toshinori looks at him. “I can’t paint.” He says.
“You could hire someone to do it.” Midoriya says. “Or take a painting class online—Or!” Midoriya cries, jumping up in his seat so suddenly that Toshinori lurches backwards in surprise. “Ask one of the patrons to do it! They’ve played video games here all their adolescent lives, they wouldn’t mind.”
Toshinori laughs again and rubs the back of his neck, giving Midoriya a reassuring (and sad) smile as he hears one of his staff calling his name. “The image you’ve got is great, and maybe one day you’ll have this place and you can do all that stuff.” He says as he stands, slowly and painfully rolling out his back as he walks towards the door leading out to the arcade floor. “But I’m getting old. I’m not as young or as energetic as I used to be, but hey, that’s life, kid. We can’t do anything about aging souls and bad wrists, but we can do something about peeling wallpaper.”
This time, It’s Midoriya’s turn to laugh. “I guess so.” He says. “So what are you gonna do about it?”
Toshinori looks up at the corner of the peeling wallpaper and considers this. “Well, I think wallpaper paste is a good place to start.” He says before he looks back down at Midoriya, gesturing to the cup in his hand. “You finish that and then hurry on home, right? Your mum gets worried and calls every time you’re home late. Oh, and, Midoriya, remember to ice your wrists this time. Please.”
Midoriya nods and take a long sip of his soda, mumbling a quiet, “M’kay.”, around the neon pink of the swirly straw, trying not to cross-eyed as he watches the liquid travel up the leisure-park-slide like twists of the plastic.
“Now,” Toshinori says, taking in a deep breath as he opens the door and looks out of it, eyes scanning the arcade floor the inevitable disaster. “If you’ll excuse me… I’m going to try and get some kid’s head unjammed from the claw machine.”
Midoriya snorts into his cup. “Why do they make the prize retrieval slot big enough for a human sized head?” He questions, giggling gently to himself. “Nobody has hands that big.”
“That was you not too long ago, kid!” Toshinori replies, half-out the door as he wags his finger at the boy. “I remember when you were up to my hip and you used to get your hands stuck in the coin-slot machine.”
Midoriya laughs again and Toshinori joins in as the door closes behind him, leaving Midoriya alone in the backroom of an arcade. He sighs, collapses into a chair, kicks up his feet on Toshinori’s and finishes his drink as he looks around the room.
The walls and wallpaper are covered in retro video game posters, some for games that line the walls of the arcade like uniform soldiers and some for family consoles, and mementos of Toshinori’s past. There are newspaper clippings of columns that covered certain game tournaments he was in, always small, always shoved mostly to the back of the paper, but they were still things to be proud of, and Midoriya smiles as he reads them, fingers reaching out carefully to touch the yellowing paper.
The photographs stapled onto the wall around the clippings frame them like a collage, and they depict Toshinori as a young man in some (not much older than Midoriya himself) and older in others, all smiling, all bright, and all of them stop after he turns twenty-seven.
He remembers dragging his mother to see Toshinori – All Might, as he was known then – play live at one of the local tournaments, and he’d always watch with wide, sparkling eyes and a brilliant smile, bouncing and sitting on the edge of his seat as he watched each twist and turn of whatever game he was playing that day. And he would always leave hungry, his fingers itching for buttons to press and a game to play.
It was a stroke of luck that Midoriya managed to not only bump into Toshinori, but become his apprentice as well. Apparently, the math was that he was more likely to be struck by a meteor than meet his idol, and, now here he was, a year into the best (and only) apprenticeship of his life.
Midoriya gulps the rest of his soda and tosses the empty cup into the bin by the desk, then he departs the backroom and heads out into the arcade floor with the full intent to head to the front, collect his bike and go on his merry way home. But, then a beauty catches his eye.
A six-foot-tall wonder with electric eyes, colourful garb and a song that seems to speak directly to his heart. He falters in his path, his heart feeling like the swishing lines and weird shapes of the psychedelic-looking carpets, and, then, his eyes meet the beautiful, wondrous, spectacular form of—
Dragon’s Lair .
His fingers itch at the opportunity to play it just one more time before he leaves for dinner. Surely one more game wouldn’t hurt? As he steps towards it, digging in his pockets for coins, he is stopped by someone walking right into him, and as he looks up to apologise, his eyes meet the soft brown ones of a young girl.
“Oh, sorry!” She says gesturing to the arcade cabinet. “Were you wanting to play?” She asks.
Midoriya finds himself slightly, and temporarily, unable to speak. “Yes. No. Uh… Yes!” He decides on finally, his tongue tying itself it into knots trying to force the words out, yet he quickly backtracks when he spots the girl’s crestfallen face. “But I’ve completed it three times so you can play it! I should be getting home—” He says, beginning to bow and scamper away from his embarrassment before he is stopped by the girl reaching enthusiastically for his hand, stopping him in his place.
“Really?!” she asks in excitement. “You’ve completed it before?”
Midoriya manages a shaky nod and a wobbly smile. “Y-yeah.” He mumbles. “Once or twice.”
The girl laughs and waves at someone behind him. “That’s more times than me and Iida combined!” She says happily. “Can you help us? Oh, I’m Uraraka by the way!”
“Uh… Hi?” Midoriya offers before he’s startled by someone coming up right behind him, shivering in fear as he stands stock still.
“Is this your friend?” He asks nervously and Uraraka grins, nodding, turning him gently around by the shoulders to face the man who stands a head taller than him.
“Greetings.” He says politely, holding up a hand in greeting. “My name is Iida Tenya. And you are?”
Midoriya jerkily holds his own hand up and nods. “Midoriya Izuku.” He answers and Tenya reaches forward to seize his hand, shaking it twice firmly before he drops it. “You have a strong handshake.” Midoriya comments letting out a rather awkward laugh.
Uraraka grins. “It comes in handy when he’s playing; he’s got fast reflexes as well.” She says before she presses her hands together in a praying motion. “Would you please help us out with Dragon’s Lair ? Tomorrow we’ll treat you to a milkshake!” She chirps and Midoriya dithers, conflicted.
Really, he should be getting home, but the prospect of playing games with new friends (was he using that word too quickly?) and getting a milkshake was just too tempting.
“Okay.” He agrees finally and Uraraka cries out in joy and leaps forward to wrap her arms around his neck. Midoriya flushes bright pink and giggles, patting her gently on the back a couple of times before she lets go and begins to drag him towards the arcade cabinet.
“That’s very good of you, Midoriya!” Tenya replies, a wide smile on his face, and Uraraka nods in agreement.
“Yes!” She says. “Thank you for helping us out.”
Midoriya smiles and leans on the side of the cabinet. “It’s nothing. I like helping others with games.” He looks between them. “Now, which of you is playing?”
Wordlessly, the two point to each other and Midoriya sighs. This may have been a little more complicated than he first thought.
Midoriya returns home breathless, slamming the door behind him as he kicks off his shoes in a hurry and almost slips and falls face-first onto the polished wooden floors. His mother, Inko, pokes her head around the doorway to the kitchen at the sound of the door opening, and steps backwards as he barrels inwards and sits himself down at the dinner table, mumbling a quick, ‘ Thanks for the meal!’ , before he’s scarfing it down more quickly than he can breathe.
Inko watches him carefully from the safety of the kitchen for a moment before she takes a seat opposite him at the table. Watching him gulp down his entire glass of barley tea before he returns to eating.
“So,” Inko begins. “Did you have a good day at school?”
“Yesh,” Midoriya says around a mouthful of rice and vegetables.
Inko stifles a giggle. “And at the arcade?” She prompts and Midoriya immediately slams down his bowl and chopsticks and grins.
“It was so cool! I made new friends!” Midoriya says excitedly, his voice steadily increasing in volume as Inko smiles fondly. “Their names are Uraraka and Tenya and we’re going out for milkshakes tomorrow after school and we’re gonna go back to the arcade and play Street Fighter ! I helped them out with Dragon’s Lair. ”
Inko makes an appreciatively noise and leans her chin on her palm. “Oh,” she says. “You’re good at that game!”
“Yeah!” He agrees. “They asked for help, so I did and we walked home together!”
“That sounds fun,” Ink says, not quite understanding but smiling enthusiastically anyway. “You should invite them over some time, I’ll make cookies.”
Midoriya’s eyes glitter like diamonds at her words. “Thanks mum!” He says before he finishes scarfing down his food and pushes back from the table. “Thanks for the food!” he chirps again before he takes off as fast as a bolt of lightning out of the room and to his own bedroom. “I’ve got homework!” he calls before the door slams shut.
Inko smiles fondly after him and begins clearing the dishes.
He meets Uraraka and Tenya outside the café the next day, still dressed in his school uniform, and is relieved to find Uraraka and Tenya also wearing their uniforms—hers with a red bow around the collar, red ribbon edged blazer and a pleated black skirt, and his with a straight blue tie and blue edged blazer. Sex segregated schools, he guesses.
The closer he gets to the two, the more nervous he feels, and, for a fleeting moment, he thinks about stopping and turning around and going home to eat ice cream and loathe being a nervous wreck. But, then, Uraraka’s head turns in his direction.
Uraraka looks up from her phone as he draws closer and waves, elbowing Tenya in the ribs to grab his attention. “Midoriya!” She calls. “Over here!”
Midoriya chuckles and walks a little bit more briskly, meeting Uraraka’s side in a matter of seconds. “I could see you.” He points out. “You didn’t have to call out to me.”
She grins. “I know,” she says. “But you looked a little lonely walking. I wanted you to smile, isn’t that right, Tenya?” She asks, turning to the male beside her who seems solely focused on the book in his hands. Though, at the sound of his name, he looks up.
“What?” he asks and Uraraka smiles fondly.
“Never mind,” she tells him, and as Tenya tucks his book into his back, she turns back to Midoriya. “Milkshakes?” She asks and he nods enthusiastically, the butterflies easily dissolving in his stomach.
“Sounds great!” He replies.
He follows Uraraka and Tenya into the café and slips into the booth beside Tenya, tucking his bag underneath his legs as Uraraka takes a laminated menu from the plastic holder and begins to scan it quickly before she thrusts it at Midoriya, who jumps a little, flushes, and squeaks a small and nervous ‘Thank you!’ as he takes it from her. He decides quickly, and hands the menu off to Tenya, who only glances at it for a moment before popping it back into the menu holder.
Midoriya clears his throat. “So, have you been here before?” he asks, and Uraraka nods enthusiastically.
“Yeah!” She says through a grin. “Me and Tenya come here all the time after school and stuff, they have really good milkshakes and desserts. It’s one of our favourite places.”
Midoriya suddenly feels very out of his depth as he looks around the pastel blue and pink paint and metal table tops and red-leather plush seats. He feels like he’s drifting through a pastel-neon-diner fever dream, and he hardly realises that a waitress is asking them for their orders before Tenya nudges him a little.
“Oh!” Midoriya squeaks, his cheeks burning bright red. “Chocolate milkshake, please!”
Uraraka giggles, Tenya gives his order and the waitress leaves with a smile and a slip of paper detailing their order. It is then that Uraraka’s eyes drift behind Midoriya’s shoulder and she lights up, her eyes sparkling as she slips from the booth and gives Tenya and Midoriya a hasty, “Be right back!”.
Tenya and Midoriya turn just in time to see Uraraka embrace a girl with raven black hair before she slips into the seat beside her. Tenya makes a noise of recognition and turns back around while Midoriya watches for a moment longer before following his lead.
“Who’s that?” He asks.
Tenya pushes his glasses up his nose. “Momo.” He replies. “Uraraka’s friend.”
“Do they go to the same school?” He asks as he turns around to look at them again, his eyes catching the ones of a stranger sitting across from Momo and Uraraka. The stranger looks up from his handheld and scans him up and down, and, startled, Midoriya flushes and turns quickly, ducking down into the booth to avoid his gaze.
Tenya raises an eyebrow, eyeing Midoriya carefully as he shrinks further into the red-leather seats. “Midoriya, what are you doing?” Tenya asks.
Midoriya makes a nervous whispery noise. “He looked at me!” he breathes. “That guy saw me looking?”
“Who?” Tenya asks before he turns to look at the booth behind them, raising a hand in a wave. “Oh, that’s Todoroki Shouto. He goes to my school.” He tells Midoriya as he turns back to the table in front of them and looks down at Midoriya. “You know, you don’t have hide like that. He’s not going to think you were stalking him.”
Midoriya’s eyes widen as anxiety creeps into his chest. “He’s going to think I was stalking him?!” He repeats breathlessly.
Tenya sighs and pushes his glasses up his nose again. “I didn’t say that.” He says. “I said he wouldn’t think you were stalking him. But hiding under the table isn’t going to give him the best impression.”
Midoriya realises this and lets his head snap up, connecting painfully with the underside of the table in his hurry. He moans lowly and clutches at the back of his head, rubbing the sore spot on the back of his skull as he lifts his head up more carefully to rest his hot skin against the cool of the table.
“I’m a mess.” He groans and Tenya just shrugs.
“I’d say you’re fine.” He says before he peers down at Midoriya in concern. “Are you okay?” He asks.
Midoriya shakes his head as well as he can while lying face-first on a table. “No.” he manages.
“Let me rephrase; Is your head okay?” Tenya corrects and Midoriya nods. “Good.”
Midoriya sits back up straight in his seat at the same moment that Uraraka arrives back at their booth, a grin on her lips and her arm linked with Momo’s. Shouto was standing a little bit behind them, his hands shoved in his pockets. Uraraka slipped back into her seat, tugging Momo with her, while Shouto dragged a spare chair over from an empty table and sat down at the head of the booth.
Uraraka faced Midoriya and gestured to Momo. “This is Yaoyorozu Momo,” Uraraka introduced with a grin. “We go to the same school.”
Midoriya turns slightly towards Momo and ducks his head in a half bow. “N-Nice to meet you!” He manages and Momo smiles brilliantly, letting out a small giggle.
“I’m not going to bite.” Momo says and Midoriya flushes immediately, letting out a sheepish laugh. “I hope we’ll become good friends. Uraraka told me about you yesterday; have you really beaten Dragon’s Lair more than once?” She asks curiously, half-leaning over the table and talking to Midoriya in a hushed whisper, as if the fact was a secret she’d have to take to her grave.
Midoriya nods quickly. “Yes. I’ve beaten in three times now.” He says, flushing scarlet when he feels Shouto’s eyes wide and curious on him. “I… spend a lot of time at All Might’s Arcade…” He says weakly in way of explanation.
“So you like video games?” Shouto asks, but he doesn’t give Midoriya a chance to answer after he turns to him, immediately filling the silence with his own words. “Have you played Pacman before? Donkey Kong? What about two-player games like Street Fighter and Mario Bros.?” The questions fall from his lips as quick as bullets and Midoriya quickly becomes overwhelmed as Shouto becomes visibly more animated and excited at the prospect of the video games Midoriya’s played.
Momo picks up on Midoriya’s discomfort and she reaches across the table to tug a little on Shouto’s bi-coloured hair, causing him to yelp out in pain and smooth his hair back down as soon as Momo’s hands leave his head.
“Slow down, Shouto.” Momo scolds, an amused smile crawling across her lips. “You’re going to give Midoriya a heart attack.”
Shouto pauses, turns to Midoriya and looks at him a moment before his cheeks turn the faintest pink and he leans back in his seat, trying to tug his fringe over his eyes in his embarrassment. “Sorry, Midoriya.” He says. “I got a bit excited. I didn’t mean to overwhelm you.”
Midoriya calms himself and gives Shouto a smile and a shake of his head. “No, it’s fine!” Midoriya hums. “To answer your questions; I’ve played Pacman, Donkey Kong. I’ve only played Street Fighter and Mario Bros. once with Toshinori. And yes, I like video games.” He says, giving Shouto a wide smile. “I like video games a lot.”
Shouto stares at him for a moment before he slowly smiles back and sits a little straighter in his seat. “I have a feeling we’re going to be good friends, Midoriya.” Shouto says, and Midoriya smiles so wide he’s sure he’s going to split his cheeks, his heart leaping in excitement in his chest.
Momo giggles again and nudges Shouto’s shoulder. “Look at you Shouto, this is the fastest I’ve ever seen you smitten with someone.” She says and both Shouto and Midoriya flush red. “And, you, Midoriya, charmer.”
“I-I wouldn’t say that, Yaoyorozu…” Midoriya says, trailing off when Momo laughs.
“You shouldn’t be so formal!” She tells him. “Call me Momo, and call him Shouto.” She says, jabbing a thumb in Shouto’s direction.
Midoriya nods quickly. “Okay!” He agrees. “You can all call me Izuku!”
Uraraka and Momo exchange a look and let out a small hum. “Do you have any nicknames?” They ask together.
“Well…” Midoriya begins, slightly uneasily. “One of my old friends used to call me Deku… but I think it was mainly used as an insult.” He says, tugging self-consciously on the sleeves of his gakuran.
Uraraka immediately lights up. “I like Deku,” she says. “It gives me a certain feeling, y’know? It just screams out the feeling of ‘ I can do it! ’, don’t you think?”
“It reminds me of the Deku from The Legend of Zelda .” Shouto offers and Momo grins in agreement, snapping her finger together.
“Exactly!” She says before she turns back to Midoriya. “Can we call you Deku?” She asks.
Midoriya hesitates a moment before he smiles tentatively and nods. “Okay.” He says, and Uraraka squeals and throws herself across the table to wrap him in a quick hug.
It is then that the waitress returns, tray laden with three milkshake glasses. She gives the company a small smile and carefully places the tray in the middle of the table before she digs in her pocket for the receipt and tucks it underneath one of the glasses, leaving with a small smile and a swish of her skirt.
Immediately Midoriya digs in his pocket for the money, only to be stopped by Uraraka calling out. He pauses and looks up at her face. “What?” He asks.
“Let us pay!” Uraraka says, gesturing between herself and Tenya. “We wanted to treat you Midoriya, y’know, after helping us yesterday. Please, let us pay.” Tenya thrusts his hand in the air and Uraraka blinks at him. “Iida?” She asks, her brow furrowed in confusion.
Tenya clears his throat. “I think it is I that should pay.” He says, holding up a hand when he notices Uraraka about to protest. “Here is my first argument for my side; I want to pay for your milkshakes.” He continues.
“Here’s my argument for my side; I want to pay.” Uraraka protests.
Momo raises an eyebrow as she looks between them. “Are you really having this argument?” She asks. Immediately Uraraka and Tenya turn to her to yell a loud, “Yes!”, at the same time that Midoriya looks down at his shoes and says quietly, “I’m not trying to argue with anyone.”.
Blank-faced, Shouto pulls a credit card from his pocket and holds it up in front of all of them, drawing all the eyes at the table to him. “Trick question.” Shouto says. “I’m paying. And none of you can argue about it.”
Uraraka stares open mouthed at him. “How do you have a credit card?” She asks breathlessly. “I knew your dad was rich but still!”
“I stole it from my father’s wallet.” Shouto says, hardly reacting to the shocked look on Uraraka and Tenya’s face. “He won’t notice that it’s missing, he has a whole envelope filled with these things at home. So, I’m going to pay and we’re not going to talk about this anymore.” He continues and Uraraka and Tenya nod in awed agreement. “Don’t worry about paying it back either.”
Momo smiles sweetly and claps her hands together. “Now, kids, what do you say?” She asks them, using the same kind of voice that a teacher would use to convince a bunch of nursery kids into repeating words that she’d drilled into their heads.
“Thank you!” Uraraka and Tenya chirp.
“Thank you, Shouto.” Midoriya says and Shouto gives him and the rest of the group a small smile.
“Just enjoy your milkshakes.” He says. “That’s all the thanks I need.”
Midoriya smiles into the depths of his milkshake as he listens to the happy sound of Uraraka’s chattering and the boom of Tenya’s voice mingling with Momo’s easy drawl and Shouto’s simple replies, and he thinks that he’s gonna like being friends with them a whole lot.
“One week until the ten-year anniversary of All Might’s Arcade!” Momo announces as she saunters in to Shouto’s room, discarding her backpack at the end of his bed with the others. At her entrance, the rest of the company looks up and she smiles at them. “Who’s still not arrived?” She asks.
“Iida.” Uraraka says, flicking mindlessly through one of Shouto’s comic books. “He’s got chemistry homework. He should be about ten minutes.” She continues, checking her watch.
Momo smiles as she sits next to her. “I had a brilliant idea on my way over here.” She says, brought out of her train of thought by the sound of the TV. She looks over to see Shouto and Midoriya sitting in front of it, staring rather intently at the Metroid level in front of them. “Boys?” She calls and they both freeze and pause the game, turning to meet Momo.
“You’re here.” Shouto says.
Midoriya waves at her. “Hello!”
Momo returns the wave. “Yes, I am here, and hello Midoriya.” She says. “I had an idea on my way over here. You know how it’s almost the ten-year anniversary of All Might’s Arcade’s opening. I think we should do something for Toshinori to thank him for all the happiness he’s given us by running the place. What do you think?” She asks.
Midoriya lights up immediately, a smile stretching his lips. “That’s an amazing idea, Momo!” He replies excitedly.
Shouto nods in agreement. “It would be nice to repay him for all that he’s done for us.”
Momo’s face erupts into a gleeful expression. “Thank you! I’m glad you all approve.” She says before she turns to Midoriya. “You know Toshinori well, what do you think would make him the happiest? Anything in the world.”
Midoriya thinks for a moment and his mind immediately produces the images of Toshinori’s office walls covered in newspaper clippings from his prime, smiling brilliantly amongst his friends, and he looks back to Momo with wide eyes sparkling in excitement.
“We could get in contact with his old gamer friends!” Midoriya suggests enthusiastically. “He hasn’t seen them in years, he’d be over joyed!”
Momo grins and seizes up his hands in her own. “You’re a genius, Deku!” She replies and Midoriya laughs, flushing in pride as Momo allows his hands to slip from her own. “Now we’ve just got to figure out how to get them to come.” She says, looking around the group. “Any suggestions?”
Uraraka thinks, her brow creasing from the pressure before she gasps and clicks her fingers. “I know! We organise a party for the ten-year anniversary, it’s a perfect cover for inviting all his old friends, so we just tell him about the party and say it was meant to be a surprise.”
Shouto nods in agreement. “But the real surprise is his old friends.” He finishes.
Momo claps her hands together. “Exactly!” She exclaims. “It’s the perfect plan, right?”
“Definitely!” Uraraka agrees. “there’s just one thing… how are we gonna find Toshinori’s old friends when we don’t know who they are?” She asks and Midoriya thrusts his hand in the air.
“I know their names.” He says and Momo and Uraraka immediately light up. “Aizawa Shota, Shuzenji Chiyo, Nezu and Tsukauchi Naomasa.” He continues, listing the names off his fingers. “I read the newspaper clippings on his walls.” Midoriya says in way of explanation when Shouto looks at him curiously.
This time, it is Uraraka that throws herself forward, wrapping Midoriya in a tight, warm hug. “That’s amazing, Deku!” She laughs.
He flushes again, tugs self-consciously at his hair. “It’s nothing.” He tells her. “We have their names, but how are we going to find them?” He asks and Momo smiles.
“I thought of that.” She says. “We can use a phonebook.”
Uraraka’s eyes sparkle as she looks questioningly around the group. “So, we’re all in agreement, then?” She asks. “Invite Toshinori’s old gamer friends to the anniversary as a surprise?” Three voices immediately reply in unison with an excited and firm, ‘Yes!’, and Uraraka grins, thrusting her hand out into the space between the four of them. “Hands together!”
Momo places her hand on top of Uraraka and Shouto places his on top of Momo’s, and then, as confidently as he’s ever felt, Midoriya places his on top of Shouto’s, and they all giggle as they let out a loud whoop and launch their hands into the air, dissolving into peals of laughter.
It is then that Shouto’s bedroom door creaks open and Iida steps in, looking severely confused as he surveys the collapsed bodies over the floor. “What’s happened?” He asks carefully and the four exchange a look.
“Well,” Uraraka begins. “Everything.”
Iida points at the television behind her. “I guessed.” he says matter-of-factly. “But you’ve left Metroid running.”
Shouto’s eyes widen in horror as he whips around and dives for the controller just as Samus dies on screen, Shouto collapses, limp on the carpet and makes noise like a dying animal. “My high score!” Shouto bemoans as Midoriya rubs his back comfortingly, giving Shouto a sad look as he cradles his controller carefully in his hands.
Momo tuts. “You mean my high score.” She says before she sticks her hand out for the controller. “Give it to me; Ochako and I will fix it up in a jiffy.”
Shouto hands over the controller with a sad look and retreats to Midoriya, who hand him a comic book and settles down more comfortingly to watch Momo fix the loss of Shouto’s high score. Iida throws his back on the top of the pile and sits himself on the edge of the bed, folding his arms across his chest as he looks to Uraraka.
“So,” he begins. “What’s this plan?”
“You can’t look!” Midoriya insists for what feels like the fiftieth time as Toshinori once more tries to peek under his make-shift bandana blindfold. “It’s meant to be a surprise. You’re meant to be surprised!”
Toshinori laughs but allows Midoriya to swat his hands away from his head. “It stopped being a surprise when ya told me about the party, kid.” He says, and, although Midoriya knows Toshinori can’t see it, Midoriya pouts. “That’s the essence of a surprise. You’re not supposed to know about it.”
Midoriya smirks to himself for a moment, before he wipes it off his face. “Just act like you’re gonna be surprised then!” he insists and Toshinori laughs again. “Promise.” Midoriya says. “Promise me you’ll be happy-surprised not sad-surprised.”
Toshinori holds his hands up in fake surrender, chuckling quietly to himself. “I promise, I promise!” He replies before he lets out an amused sigh. “What is this? The Spanish Inquisition?”
“And no back-chatting!” Midoriya adds, wagging a finger at him.
“That should be my line.” Toshinori says and Midoriya rolls his eyes. “Please, Izuku, kid. Please tell me when I can take this stupid blindfold off.” He asks in fake desperation, tugging at the sides gently—not enough to pull it off his face. Midoriya swats his hands away again.
“You can take it off when I tell you to take it off.” Midoriya says.
Toshinori grumbles a little but keeps still. “You’ve gotten so bossy all of a sudden,” he says. “I’m not quite sure if I like it.”
“Well,” Midoriya says matter-of-factly. “You’re always telling me to take charge of myself and have no doubts. I thought I’d give it a try.”
Toshinori smiles and fumbles blindly for Midoriya’s hand until he finds it and gives it a reassuring squeeze. “That’s good, kid. I’m glad you’re taking charge.” He says. “I’m glad you’ve got yourself a good lot of friends; they’ll take you far.” A smile crawls across Midoriya’s lips at the mention of his friends and he nods, lets out a happy hum.
“Yeah.” He agrees before he stands up and tugs Toshinori up with him, leading him towards the door. “It’s time. I’m gonna lead you out to the arcade floor okay?” He says carefully, waiting for Toshinori’s nod before he opens the office door and leads him through the crowd of people and by a table laden with cake and food and drink.
“Stay here, and don’t take off your blindfold.” Midoriya tells Toshinori as he spots Uraraka and Momo gesturing at him furiously.
Toshinori grumbles his ascent and Midoriya leaves his side to join Uraraka’s, and his heart sinks in his chest when he notices the panicked and worried look on her face.
“Deku,” she whispers once he’s close enough. “We don’t have Aizawa.”
Midoriya’s chest suddenly feels tighter. “B-But… he was the first one who confirmed…” He says, his voice trailing off as Momo nods.
“Shouto was going to get him, but they haven’t arrived back,” Momo says, worry dripping into every syllable. “I don’t know what we’re supposed to do.”
Midoriya takes in a shaky breath and tries to calm himself.
And he thinks of what he normally thinks of when he needs to level himself—video games. He thinks of playing button-smashing Street Fighter with Shouto, and helping Uraraka with Dragon’s Lair. He thinks of trying to defeat Iida’s high score on Donkey Kong, and sitting idly in Momo’s room, not really talking as they’re focused solely on their handhelds. He thinks of training with Toshinori and how he taught Midoriya all he knows about every arcade cabinet in his arcade.
The only difference is, he thinks of his friends as well.
He exhales and faces Uraraka and Momo. “We’re just gonna have to surprise him without Aizawa.” He says and, sadly, Momo and Uraraka nod and wave Chiyo, Nezu and Naomasa forward. Midoriya navigates his way through the arcade cabinets and back to Toshinori’s side as Uraraka and Momo guide his friends to the front of the crowd, giving Midoriya the thumbs up when they were in position.
“Okay,” Midoriya says to Toshinori. ‘I’m gonna take off the blindfold now.”
Toshinori lets out a sigh of relief. “Finally.” He says.
And, with a tug of the knot in the bandana, the blindfold falls from Toshinori and his eyes meet the older, but still familiar figures of the people he used to spend every second of his childhood with. His jaw drops and his hands shake as he steps forward, blinking as if he doesn’t believe his eyes.
“No,” he says softly. “It can’t be.”
They laugh as Toshinori rubs furiously at his eyes before looking back at them, his eyes widening to the size of saucers and brimming with tears as the realisation finally hits him. He stakes three long strides forward and wraps them all in a big hug, his arms squeezing tight around them as if he never wants to let go.
“It’s great to see you again too, Yagi.” Naomasa says with a small chuckle. “We missed ya.”
Chiyo made a small noise of indignation. “And you worried us! What were you thinking? Dropping off the face of the earth for ten years.” She scolds. “I was worried sick.”
Toshinori gives her a wet laugh. “I wasn’t thinking, I’m sorry for worrying you.”
Chiyo sniffs. “It’s alright.”
Nezu smiles and gives Toshinori a pat on the back. “You’ve not changed at all.” He says. “You’re still the Yagi we knew ten years ago.”
Toshinori hold up his hands, showing off the long scars on his wrists from the surgery in a flash before he hides them beneath his sweater sleeves. “I wouldn’t say that.” He says. “But it’s good to see you too.”
“I hope you’re not gonna use that carpal tunnel as an excuse.” A voice says, and everyone in the room turns to see a man with messy black hair and half-lidded eyes ender with a sarcastic smirk. “Because you owe me a match, Old Man. Repayment for the time you beat me ten years ago.”
Toshinori blinks at him in shock. “Aizawa?” he manages.
Aizawa grins at him. “What do you say?” He asks, thrusting out his hand for Toshinori to shake. “A game for old times’ sake?”
“That depends,” Toshinori says as he strides towards Aizawa. “Which game?”
“ Space Invaders ,” Aizawa replies simply. “Whoever gets the high score wins.”
Toshinori laughs. “I could beat that game in my sleep.” He says but he takes Aizawa’s hand, shaking firmly. “It’s a deal.”
The two stare at each other for a moment before they both open their arms and embrace each other. Aizawa laughs as Toshinori begins to sniff into his jacket. “I missed this.” Aizawa says and Toshinori nods.
“Me too.” He replies quietly before he draws back and claps Aizawa’s shoulder. “I hope you’re ready to lose.” He says before he takes off running to the Space Invaders , cabinet, Aizawa hot on his heels.
Midoriya watches with an amused smile, hardly turning when Uraraka throws her arms around his neck and hugs him tight, Momo joining his other side to punch him good-naturedly in the shoulder. Iida gives him a smile as he comes over and Shouto stops in front of him, his fist outstretched, and Midoriya smiles as he bumps his fist against Shouto’s
Momo crossed her arms across her chest. “We did good.” She says. “It’s made him really happy.”
Uraraka nods in agreement. “Happy Ten-years, arcade.” She says, breaking for Midoriya to pat the side of a cabinet.
Midoriya grins and stand sup straighter, looking between his friends with mischievous look. “How about a challenge of our own?” he says and, immediately, everyone looks at him in excited curiosity. “If you can bet me at Street Fighter, I’ll pay for milkshakes.”
Uraraka’s eyes light up. “You’re on!”
Before anyone else can reply, Midoriya takes off across the arcade floor to the sound of his friend’s cries, the sound of their footsteps like heavy rain behind him. And he smiles, skidding to a stop next to the arcade cabinet and taking his place at the first set of joysticks as the rest catch up.
“Who’s first?” He asks and Uraraka steps forward, taking her place in front of the second set of joysticks.
Uraraka grins at the screen. “I hope you’re ready to get beaten.” She says.
“We’ll see.” He replies.
Midoriya looks into the electric eyes of the cabinet, the image of the title screen embedded into the back of his mind as he inserts the coins and presses ‘START’. He meets Uraraka’s eyes out the corner of his, and they grin at each other before their eyes snap back to the CRT monitor as the music begins to play—and in the company of all his friends and the colourful glow of the arcade cabinet, Midoriya feels more at home than he’s ever felt.

Structure evaluation
Structure evaluation
this brief was to show and enhance the architect’s vision through our photography and editing, the building I chose to photograph was truly stunning and had been designed and built 3 times by 3 different architects over the course of hundreds of years, this is one of the reasons I found it a really cool building to photograph you can see the creative styles all come together and merge to create one building that is truly unique not only does it show different styles between the architects but it also shows different styles and features that were popular during the design of that specific part of the building. I think I captured the different styles and design of the building well you can’t actually tell which but was built at a different time which I think is really cool as the other architects have built on top of the original architects vision. You can really see that the architects wanted the building to appear grand and settle nicely into its surroundings and the nature. In my final images I chse a few images where the building seems to just be blending in or sitting within the surrounding nature I chose to do this as that’s what it feels like being their no matter what angle you look at the building from there is amazing greenery or flowers surrounding it and its curves and stone details make it look like it is a part of it.
One of the main things I took from the architects vision and the history that is associated with the building is that it was designed to appear grand and show off wealth and beauty, the castle was even used for a kings wedding so throughout all of its life it has been designed to look rich, grand and beautiful. I chose to show this off in my images by having a lot of images that showed the full building from different angles and viewpoints, I wanted to show how it constantly looked no matter where you looked at the building from it just appeared more and more impressive to the point that it hardly even looked real it seemed like it was something out of a picture book or fairy tale.
The other main thing I wanted to capture about the building was the stone details I took a lot of different close up images of the stone work before I settled on the two I show in my final images, I am always amazed by the stone work and details that older buildings have and it was one of the main reasons I chose to photograph an old building in the first place, since a lot of the stone work was at the top of the building I couldn’t get close ups however going around the base of the buildings I was able to find some really beautiful and also some really simple pieces that add to the architects vision of grandness and making the building seem part of the landscape.
My research for this brief really helped me out when it came down to the shooting day and finding ways to capture the building that showed the architects vision without getting boring a lot of my research was about using black and white in post-production to show of the insane texture and contrast that you see in older buildings however once I got to the location and saw the building I immediately knew I was going to be shooting in color as the building was made to sit In a sea of bright colors and nature, however since I had planned to shoot on a clear sunny day I was able to capture the contrast and texture in color I did make this more obvious through editing but the sun really allowed me to shot off the detailed stone work. One of the other things I researched was painting with light to again show off the shape and contrast in the building unfortunately I didn’t get to do this but if I can get permission to shoot again I would really love to give this a go as I think it would really show off the shape of the building.
I chose to show my final 8 images in a zine (online magazine) when I was researching different ways to present my images I didn’t feel that a canvas for all of them would really show them off, I chose the magazine as I felt this is where I personally feel the images I took would most likely go if they were to be displayed all together, it also meant I was able to control which ones went together on a page and which ones would benefit and show of the grandness of the building by being the only image on the page, what I also really like was that I got to choose the color of the background I personally found that green was the common factor between all of my images and by having green as a background for some of the images it really framed them and tied them together in a display.

INDESIGN PUBLICATION
To create my Zine ive used Indesign for this. To start off with ive made each page spread using photoshop first as this was the easiest way for me to see what i was doing and to keep track on whats going on as shown on the first screenshot. For each of the pages i made sure that it has the same theme to make the zine more simple within its design and layout also for it to have more of an visual flow.
Front page: The front page consists of my tittle/name of my zine ‘TRYNITARSKA’ this was inspired by my home town Lublin’s Tower named “wieża Trynitarska” as for being one of the tallest points of view in Lublin. This really got me to use the name as for my home towns passion and love towards it. The simplicity of the front cover came in mind as for the idea of “complex isn’t always the answer” so the idea was to use the half tone image of Freddy Krueger and add a repetitive tittle.
Matrix page: First thought that i had for this page spread was to use the main poster that Ive created on photoshop for my final design as my poster for that film but with a few tweaks. Starting off with importing the final design of the matrix poster and making small changes to it from removing the names of people that directed the film and removing the tittle of the film and blending in a paragraph of the film reviews. Also switching the pills into an outline instead of a full solid “.png” file which gave the page/design a different look. Where for the other half of the page ive added an old bit of scrap work that ive manipulated through playing with the RGB channels, also the neat ups round the edges of the character which gave it more of an professional/clean look. With more film reviews on that page too and ect.
Pulp Fiction page: Ive decided to add a background for this page as for more of a contrast split between the pages and for it to present a little better when flicking through the zine. To create the page ive created an manipulated image from one of the scenes of the film, with a hand made bits form on of the practical lessons that we had on making stencil's of different fonts for our chosen films. The next thing that ive added to the page was a few film reviews.
A Nightmare On Elm Street page: Ive decided to go with a black background for this page as for the theme of the movie being horror. The genre of the movie being horror the theme that suits it is dark, gloomy, red, and bloody plus to go well with the zine and to present well ive decided that there will be a two colour scheme on this page. Meaning that the black being the background would be one and the second colour would be red which are the scratch marks , lettering lastly the half tone image. On top of that added two small paragraphs on the film reviews and ect.
Back page: Consists of one of my older bits of unused work and scrap bit of work making an repetitive paste of image in a image trace manipulation and a three bit colour range.

Zine Evaluation
Research:
What ideas and inspiration did you get from your research?
For our research, we first focused on looking at different layouts of different magazines. We looked at the Dazed magazine, the n*n zine, and Vogue. We weren’t really sure how to layout our pages so to help ourselves visualize it we made a mock-up zine on paper and penciled in where each image, which article, and where the main text would go. We were inspired by the simplistic yet professional look of the n*n zine along with some zines we were shown in an online lesson.
What ideas and inspiration did you get from the world around you?
Our zine’s main focus is on youth culture so we paid more attention to what people our age are doing, how they’ve been affected by the pandemic, and how they’ve been affected by society growing up with technology in the 21st century. We wanted to hear what the older generation thought of teenagers today so we set up a google form asking random people about their opinions on stereotypes of young people. We also used Google Forms to investigate how the pandemic had affected everyone.
How did your research influence the development of your project work?
Our research influenced two out of five articles. We knew we wanted to write an article on how the pandemic has affected everyone around us regardless of their age. However, with our first google forms, we couldn’t get very clear results due to having too many ‘other, please explain’ answers where the majority of people chose as an answer for most yes or no questions.
Do you think you researched widely enough or in enough depth?
I think we could have researched more in-depth into different photographers than we did but with the research that we did do with interviewing various people and the questionnaires, I think we did well considering that we were in another national lockdown the entire time we were doing this zine.
What impact did your research have on your final images?
From the very start of this project, we wanted to show how the pandemic has changed everyone’s lives. To do this we wanted to show things that everyone sees on a day to day basis that we wouldn’t have seen a year ago. For example, we have photos of abandoned masks, 2m distance stickers on floors, practically empty streets that used to be busy, and people wearing masks in closed spaces.
We also wanted to show the difference between the stereotypes and realities of young people. This worked out quite well because the majority of the responses we got were from the older generation. We put together some questions based on stereotypes that we’d heard our parents or grandparents say about young people and from the responses we created photos relating to what was said and/or how it contradicts the stereotype.
Concept:
How did your ideas develop and change?
Originally, we were going to make a zine about mental health and cover some quite hard-hitting topics but we discussed our ideas and what we could write about them and decided that it would be too difficult to write full articles on these issues let alone create photos based on the mental illness we were talking about. So in the end we changed our topic to youth culture whilst still being able to cover mental health.
How well do the images you produced communicate the ideas behind your project?
I feel that our images communicate the ideas behind our project very effectively because Gen-Z has been affected by each topic of each article in one way or another. For example, for the ‘Stereotype vs Reality’ article, we shot the images based on stereotypes that were mentioned by the older generations in our survey.  We shot the photos to relate to the articles and mainly used young people as the subjects. We also had a few responses from some 16-17 year-olds and have interviewed young people as well.
Core Skills:
What English and Maths skills did you use/improve with your project work or photography skills? Eg. time planning, budgeting, and visual language.
We used maths skills to work out the aperture and depth of field. We used literacy skills to compose articles, create surveys, and gather feedback to be used in our Zine.
Materials, processes, and technical skills:
What new techniques and processes did you experiment with?
I experimented with the burn tool in photoshop to edit a photo we used to look like a skeleton. I hadn’t really experimented with the various photoshop tools before so this was my first time seeing what photoshop had to offer.
We experimented with low angles for one of the LGBT photos and experimented with editing a few images into black and white to see how they’d look.
Before this zine, we had never even heard of Adobe InDesign so it was completely new to us but once we figured out how to use it, getting this zine finished in InDesign was a whole lot easier than using Photoshop.
What format did you use for your zine? Why?
We used Adobe InDesign to create our zine because it is industry-standard software with the correct tools to create a magazine, unlike Photoshop. It was difficult to know how to use InDesign at first but once we got the hang of it, everything became so much easier.
Did you push yourself to try new things?
I pushed myself to try many new things and at times it was difficult to know what to do. I had limited knowledge and experience with using the Adobe Suite, writing articles, and formatting a magazine but I have overcome the obstacles and am pleased with the outcome.
Meeting the brief/proposal:
How did the work you produced meet the zine assignment brief, in particular: How did the process of planning and making your zine help you to gain a deeper understanding of issues that are important to you? And how effective were your final outcomes at communicating your ideas?
I spoke about how creating music has helped me through two lockdowns and coming to terms with the effects of the Pandemic. When we started this project we had three team members, however, due to the topic of the zine being changed one member became overwhelmed and couldn’t keep up. Therefore they broke away from the team and decided to work on their own project. Kai and I have worked together really well, bouncing ideas off each other and equally contributing both images and copy to create the final outcome.
Our final outcome, ‘Lieability.’, we feel, has positively and effectively communicated our ideas. Data from a public survey has given us primary research to support our evidence within the articles. The images are intricately linked to the articles and have communicated the message we wished to portray.
Enjoyment/engagement:
What aspects of the work did you enjoy/not enjoy?
I enjoyed being able to go out on various different photoshoots off college campus to gather photographs for the zine. I also enjoyed experimenting with Photoshop and challenging myself, which has given me an opportunity to learn new software and put this knowledge into practice. Writing articles for the zine proved to be challenging at times and this is an area that I feel I could do further work on.
How well did you engage with the zine project and what helped you to/prevented you from engaging with the project?
The second national lockdown has proved to be very disruptive to both Kai and I. It has prevented us from being able to take the photographs that we wanted to take, forcing us to compromise and find new ways of gathering images. Though this has proved to be difficult it has enabled us to exercise our abilities to be flexible and adaptable in challenging times.
High Points and Low Points:
Overall, what are you most proud of? What are you least proud of?
Overall, I am very proud of the fact that we have been able to complete this project within a month even though we have entered a second lockdown. Kai and I have been able to communicate effectively with each other 2-3 days a week via Google Meet, to discuss layouts, article contents, and images. I am also proud of how organised we have been and how well the zine came together.
I am disappointed that we couldn’t take all of the images that we had planned to take. For example, with the music article, I couldn’t take a raw image of my friend so had to use a jpeg which is lower quality.
What are the key things you want to work more on next term?
I would like to learn more about camera basics and understanding what the settings mean and how I can use my camera to the best of its ability.
Character Development:
What did you learn about yourself through doing the zine project?
I learnt that I could be flexible and adaptable when required. I also learned that I could effectively work with another person without creating conflict.
Where you think you have developed/used your abilities in terms of Respect, Communication, Wellbeing, Responsibility, Dealing with People & Grit?
I feel that I have respected the public and people around me when taking photos for the zine and in college work. I’ve made sure to get verbal consent from everyone who’s been featured in the zine and to be posted on my online sketchbook.
How well did you contribute and listen to others in online crits and class discussions? (Respect & Communication)
I feel that I’ve contributed well in class discussions whether it’s in class or in online lessons and using the chat box. When we’re commenting on other people’s work in online crits I try to give feedback on everyone’s work and occasionally give constructive criticism.
How well do you think you did in terms of: meeting deadlines, time management, punctuality, attendance? (Responsibility & Grit)
I think I’ve done well to meet deadlines and to be punctual. However, I feel that I need to work on managing my time more effectively.
How would you evaluate your productivity? (eg. Did you produce enough work? Could you have worked faster?) (Grit)
I think I could’ve produced a bit more work in terms of online sketchbook work and made sure it reads nicely.
Did you take care and pride in the presentation of your work? (Responsibility)
I feel that I took care in presenting my work nicely and am happy with what I’ve completed.
What challenges did you face? How did you overcome them? What did you learn from them? (Grit)
When I started college I felt overwhelmed with the idea of writing down everything I’d done and then figuring out how to upload it to a blog. I started off using word press but got extremely stressed over how it worked so now I use Tumblr instead as I’ve used it a few times in the past. From this, I learned that if I can’t work out how to do something then I should try to find an alternative way of completing the task at hand.
