Hello everyone!! For today I have another review for you. I have said it before but I really like the novels set in the Assassin's Creed world. I think that they are well written and with excellent world building. Sword of the White Horse by Elsa Sjunneson was no exception. This one is another Assassin's Creed novel that I really enjoyed. It is an original saga set in the world of Assassin's Creed Valhalla and we have a Celtic warrior defending her people from Viking raiders and infiltrating an ancient sect to save her homeland. As always I loved the world building and I really enjoyed the writing style as well as the storyline. The author does a great job combining history with mythology and the Assassin's Creed world. The book is a page turner and it's adventurous and at the same time dark. I highly recommend it if you are a fan of the games but also if you like Norse Mythology inspired books. Sky in the Deep by @adrienneyoungauthor was another single-sitting read for me one sunny afternoon. Inspired by Viking history, Sky in the Deep is a fast-paced story about courage, forgiveness and family and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The action scenes weren’t too graphic or violent for my delicate sensibilities and the bonds between the characters felt hard-won and true. The story had all the elements I really enjoy, and I have decided that I need to read many more Viking (and Norse) fantasy! When the Stars Fell and the Dark Rose.

I promised when I updated the last chapter of When the Stars Fell on Wattpad, that I was going to be working on the sequel and this is proof that it's coming. I mentioned before that I was taking a small break between updating WSF and starting to post And the Dark Rose because I was moving from Ireland back to the States. Well, I've done that now, and I'll be finishing up the third act of the manuscript next month as my NaNoWriMo challenge. Following that I'll be posting it onto Wattpad as well, so keep an eye out!

I’ve just started reading the Wizard of Earthsea series, and I’m enjoying them so far. Some have compared them to Harry Potter, but aside from both series featuring a wizard school and dragons, there aren’t many similarities. They’re two very different series, and so it doesn’t seem right for me to compare them - they each have their own distinct vibes, themes, and plot, and each series is great for its own reasons. What has struck me beyond the writing, though, is the way in which the characters are depicted. The story begins with a dark skinned protagonist from a whole nation of none-white people. The only white people mentioned in the beginning are the bad guys (invading the hero’s village, they essentially seem to be Vikings). That might not seem like a big deal now, but Ursula K Le Guin began this series in the late 60’s. When you read it, it’s easy to feel like it was written now. Given that the author has also written a science fiction novel depicting a gender free culture, The Left Hand of Darkness, I can only express how impressed I am with Ursula K Le Guin - she was really ahead of her time. Despite my long held fascination with the Vikings (because of family ancestry), I can’t remember the last time I read a viking-age inspired book! I am so thankful for @titanbooks gifting me both ‘Sky in the Deep’ and the new release ‘The Girl the Sea Gave Back’ by @adrienneyoungbooks because I thoroughly enjoyed them! TGTSGB is a companion novel to SitD however you don’t have to read them in order! I am thankful that I received both because I couldn’t get enough of the world! . The Girl the Sea Gave Back follows Tova, a young woman living among the Svell, people who fear her, yet use her for her Truthtongue abilities. She casts the stones to see what the future holds; the Svell are looking for war and interpret the foretold destruction as that of their enemies, not of their own. Her place amongst the Svell is fragile, and their fear threatens her very existence. The leaders of the Svell are dangerously divided; will Tova be able to protect herself, and prevent the destruction of the lands? . As someone who dislikes violence, these books are brutal, but the violence wasn’t too much for me to read. I loved the mythology and the clans and all the viking-inspired content! I have always enjoyed books with ‘place’ and/ or ‘home’ as the central themes and this book was no different! I would have loved further character development and was happy that the romance was not central to the story, rather a slow burn. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed #The GirlTheSeaGaveBack and would recommend both books be added to your TBRs!
