Random thought/ramble- Tumblr has made us a lot more comfortable talking about plural experiences and also just being plural because of the way that it works.

To elaborate, I’m referring to a combination of a tag system, the fact you can filter tags, a lack of dislikes, and hell, even the way the comments work.

At first I didn’t like the comments because it’s hard/annoying to have a back-and-forth conversation there like I was used to with Reddit threads but that also means I can’t get into arguments like I used to all the time on Reddit, which has been good for our mental health.

But to go back to tags, what I mean by that is it’s really easy for us to talk about something exclusive to a fictive, and while we’ve been cautious about tagging any fictive posts with their sources… the fact is that we can, and if people don’t want to see fictive posts in their fandom stuff, they can just filter the tags. Win/win. It’s made us a bit more confident because, usually, people will just move on if they see something they don’t like.

And of course, the filtering is useful for us- we can filter tags like “anti endo” so we don’t accidentally interact with those kind of people as much on an otherwise normal plural post. Additionally, we’ve blocked quite a few “[character] x y/n” or “[character] x [character]” tags or similar… we have nothing against those works, it just makes some of our fictives uncomfortable, which is why filtering is so nice, because those people can keep posting and we don’t have to worry about it :) meanwhile in subreddits, we’d just be confined to whatever happens to show up on the fandom’s subreddit, even if it made our fictives uncomfortable (but our fictives like seeing stuff from the fandoms so they don’t wanna stop looking entirely!)

And also, tags are just so much better than subreddits because you can’t post to multiple subreddits, kind of- you can crosspost, but it just isn’t quite the same thing. You can find people by tagging multiple versions of something (one issue is that sometimes there’ll be two subreddits with similar names and the same theme but they’re considered completely different which splits the audience). You can ramble about whatever without having to worry about being on-topic because you can just tag everything that you discuss.

And overall tumblr just feels really nice and the higher emphasis on following users rather than subreddits and the culture around mutuals gives it this cozy, communal feeling that we like. Even though we’re a bit reclusive and don’t interact with our mutuals that much, we like seeing them around and the more user-focused style makes this place feel a lot more familiar. But we also like following tags because then we can find new users we like! So having both is like the best of both worlds.

Reddit is better at some things like getting answers, and man is r/HeroForgeMinis a great resource for learning how to improve on the site, but overall we’re much happier here (and besides, there’s nothing stopping us from having tumblr be our main social and just popping onto Reddit when we need it)

But yeah basically tumblr is great, we like it here and I’m glad the Reddit blackout gave us a chance to try it, we haven’t turned back.

My reply to a video of Dr. Tatiana Erukhimova stabbing a potato with a knife and hammer, consisting of an image of Bill Nye captioned “Inertia is a property of Matter”. None of the [tumblr] stats tools that I’ve found tell you what your most popular reblogs are, but I was seeing likes and reblogs on that reblog several times a day every day for a few months.

Similarly, my replies to posts by both spitblaze and chansaw. If I had a nickel for every time someone posted advice to new [tumblr] users that was just the text of “This is not a place of honor ...” long term nuclear waste burial site warning, and I replied with a photoshop of the DashCon Ball Pit in front of the proposed “Field of Spikes” warning monument ... I’d have two nickles, but it’s weird that it happened twice. But one of those posts inspired @th3b33skn33s to draw some wonderful art of a genetically engineered Ray Cat hissing angrily at the [tumblr] t in the ball pit as its bio-luminescence genes are triggered by the elevated radiation.

Some impromptu crafting the other day to make more storage for my ever expanding dice collection inspired others to go do the same.

The couch was not the only new furniture that the housepanthers had to adjust to.

Like everyone else, I had a post queued for the April First Crash.

I mess around with Hero Forge a lot, and post my stuff here and on the /r/heroforgeminis/ subreddit. The CEO of the company saw a .gif I had made, and decided that .gif making needed to be an official feature.

The Netflix shirt from 2000 mentioned above, that I found while emptying out my storage unit, wasn’t the only treasure unearthed. This Big Mac styrofoam clamshell did better numbers on reddit than here, but my most popular reddit post is still only a third the size of my most popular [tumblr] post.

And if you hadn’t noticed from two fifths of the top ten list, the household has new cats this year. We still miss the old boys especially around the holidays, but the Voids bring us much love and laughter.
