we’re taking mutie to the vet today so we got out her carrier and she just. got in. on her own.

she doesn’t know chat. she thinks it’s just a fun place to sit.

I got my cats new versions of their 😭expensive😭 vet perscribed flea bands that are 100% effective for 8 months, but since she sleeps inside so much now, I also got Michelle one.

Now, michelle's ony experience with like real care has been the catch-and-release program that sterillised her when she was still entirely unsocialised so I didn't know if me trying to put it on would activate some KILL KILL BITE reflex, but I had to try because I want her to be healthy and improve so she can get better care.

I already closed the ring a bit so I just had to put it over her head down her neck, pull and then cut and tuck away the leftover piece. I did manage to put it over her head because she didn't see it coming due to this shit never happening before, and then I quickly kept doing the movements and fixing it while she entirely bluescreened. She looked at me and there was this look in her eyes like she was going over all possible reactions unable to match an appropriate option to the Whatever was happening.

So we got a succes! In a few days every possible flea or egg will be destroyed and they'll have no chance for the next 8 months, all for the price of a very confusing 6 seconds.

I'm just saying, I've never seen them in the same room.

(Please don't be afraid to take animals from shelters. Ours were adults and had some issues, but they deserved a better life and became an important part of our hearts)

my brother had a brilliant idea that i wanted to share with other people who have four-legged family members: he trained our two cats to go directly to the door when they hear the fire alarm.

obviously at first the fire alarm sent them scrambling for cover, but he started slowly by giving them treats whenever it went off, when someone burned food or forgot to open the fireplace flu. he then progressed to calling them to the door to offer treats immediately after the alarm went off. and it actually wasn't too long before the cats voluntarily started going to the door upon hearing the alarm.

i think this was genius because in the event of a real emergency we know exactly where the cats will be and we will not have to waste precious time trying to find them to rescue them. i think this method would work equally well with dogs and probably other free-roaming pets such as rabbits, ferrets, etc. and i certainly encourage others to give it a shot!

This is what happens when I talk to my cats through the camera my family has set up on them

My cats have this meow that means "please come with me to fix this" after which they'll lead me to the problem in question, usually a empty (or 'empty') food bowl or a closed door they want open. They look at the 'problem', they look back at me, clear message.

What fascinates me is how this illustrates what they percieve as being in the realm of my 'power.' I control the food, I control the door, sure, but my cats love to sit on the balcony in the sun, and it has happened plenty of times that on a rainy day they come get me, go to the balcony and show me... the rain. "Please fix this" they say. "Please get rid of the wet"

"Silly kitty," I say, "I can't control the rain." I then walk into the shower and turn on the rain.
