"HARBOR LIGHTS": The first song ever taped by Elvis Presley (officially)

Elvis had paid for two private sessions at the Sun Studio, when he would cut two acetates with the songs "My Happiness" and "That's When Your Heartache Begins" — the actual date is not certain but it happened sometime in 1953 — and again Presley would go back to Sun Studio on January 4, 1954, to record "I’ll Never Stand In Your Way" and "It Wouldn’t Be The Same Without You," all ballads.

"In fact, he sang very little but ballads, and to the untrained ear, we now know, he sounded like plenty of other local C&W singers. To Marion [Keisker], though, there was something there — a stronger yearning? A deeper passion? A greater determination? Whatever it was, she wanted to keep an eye on it; after the kid had made his acetate she made herself a note: “Good ballad singer. Hold." — Ernst Jorgensen on "Elvis Presley: A Life In Music"

A while after the private recordings, on June 26, 1954, Elvis was officially invited to a recording session at Sun Studio. A phone call was made by Marion Keisker (Sun Studio's secretary), and soon after that Elvis walked back in the studio and he started the official recordings singing in the same familiar way, not venturing in something out of extraordinary. Nothing came out that was really interesting to tape, but still certain there might be something good ahead, a while after that Elvis came back to Sun Studio once more and that's when the ballad called "Harbor Lights" was covered by him.

The song was originally recorded by Roy Fox & his Orchestra with vocal by Barry Gray, in London, on January 29, 1937. You can listen to the original record of the tune below.

Elvis recorded "Harbor Lights" on July 5, 1954, during his first commercial recording session.

According to Ernst Jorgensen, it may have been the first song Elvis recorded. The first song put on tape. The order for the official recordings during that session at Sun Studio would have been, "Harbor Lights" and "I Love You Because", nothing that really caused a big impression on Sam Phillips, but then during a pause from the recordings, Elvis, Scotty Moore and Bill Black were just joking around, having fun playing Arthur's Cudrup tune their own way, without even realizing they were doing something that finally got Sam Phillips really excited about. That's when "That's All Right" came to be and then, during the same session, there was "Blue Moon of Kentucky", both songs, as soon as released, instant hits by this new Memphis guy with a funny/weird/unique name.

Opposite to the hits "That's All Right", "Blue Moon of Kentucky" and even the ballad "I Love You Because", Sam Phillips considered the recording of "Harbor Lights" unworthy of release, according to Jorgensen once more, because "they couldn’t get the Hawaiian-inspired pop song right" (Look at Hawaii being there for Elvis since the very beginning of his career... in a certain way. Interesting). In 1976, tho, RCA released the master of "Harbor Lights" on the LP "Elvis – A Legendary Performer, Volume 2", for the first time.

I don't know about you but this is surely one of my all-time-favorites Elvis song. ♥ Thank God it came to the light of day.

My friends told me I need to start posting my fic ideas to Tumblr because I simply do not have enough time to write them all myself so here it goes(tho I may actually write out a proper fic if I get enough people telling me I should).

Warning for suggestive themes

Vampire AU Mint Milkshake(nyo america x england)

First scenario is that Amelia is a college student looking for a sugar daddy. She runs into Arthur who is decked out like someone stuck in Victorian Era England and she's like score!

She just thinks he's an eccentric old money type millionaire and is. Completely oblivious to the fact that he's a vampire. Like she can be smacked in the face with it but she refuses to notice. At some point he probably gets frustrated and TRIES to get her to notice but nada.

She gets disappointed when he gives her old Victorian antiques and valuables instead of the latest iPhone(womp womp) but at this point she's intrigued enough by him not to leave so easily

Arthur would put her on a "healthy" diet so he doesn't have to eat her fast food infested blood. He even tries to cook for her but since he is a vampire that doesn't eat human food anymore and probably hasn't cooked in 200 years, it turns out terrible. (She eats it anyway)

She keeps waking up all woozy and confused in random places like a Denny's parking lot after being at his place with no recollection of what happened right before. Amelia sees nothing wrong with this tho she just keeps coming back like heyyy ^u^

Arthur's the one tryna practically get rid of her but also gets attached. Maybe one week she doesn't show up for whatever reason so Arthur comes to her house like what's going on and she invites him in. She wakes up tucked in with a bruise on her neck or wrist or wherever and only realizes later that 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴. But Amelia being Amelia is not that alarmed by this.

I think the comedic potential is extraordinary. He's like why do you have so many bug traps hanging all over your house and she's like:

"Oh I think there's like, mosquitos in my room or something. I haven't seen them but I keep waking up with these weird bites on my neck! They're like super deep too. The mosquitos must be huge!" , unintentionally giving Arthur a complex about his teeth. He's muttering to himself like "my teeth are small but not 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 small"

Not sure how the situation gets resolved. I imagine she only actually sees that he's a vampire right before their first sexytimes cuz I headcanon vampires can't get a boner without fresh blood. And shes finally like ohhhh. But anywayyyy

Scenario 2: Amelia is the vampire.

Amelia and Arthur went to highschool together in the 2000's, but she disappeared senior year and everyone thought she got kidnapped. She was never found and it's still an unsolved case. It was a big deal because she was the cheer captain and one of the most popular girls in school but over the years it mostly got forgotten.

Fast forward to Arthur in his 30's waiting at a bus stop or smth being a grumpy adult coming home from work or whatever and he looks to his left and does a double take because he sees 𝘩𝘦𝘳. And she hasn't aged a day.

Amelia's like do I know u? And he's like I know 𝘺𝘰𝘶 and things go from there. He takes her home and is kind of freaking out internally. They never really talked much in highschool cuz he was a nerd(maybe he worked for the school newspaper) and just in separate cliques in general but he had a huge crush on her.

Anyways one thing leads to another and he lives out his highschool fantasies of fugging her and lets her live at his house and feed on him. I like this idea for the Schrodinger's age gap.

- *slaps his back* this bad boy can fit so much angst into him - Seriously tho I dunno why I've made him the object of my angst affections atm but heehoo >:} - He's gruff but he has a big heart, you just need to dig a lot to find it - This man is such a workaholic my god - I've also seen a few fics run with the idea that he has low self-worth which. Ough /pos - His last name is Doe, his wife's name was Jane, and his daughter is named Judy - John and Jane had a very Greg and Rose type of dynamic, just some guy and a woman who seemed extraordinary and far out of his league - Tho unlike Steven Judy actually did get to have a few years with her before she kicked it lol - Also his daughter is alive! I'm not THAT cruel. She was at a friend's house and John and Jack immediately rushed over to pick her up - However there's a good period of time where John just gets stuck on the idea of what if. What if she was there, what if she got hurt, what if he lost her, what if what if what if. He starts spiraling on all the ways he could lose Jack too, it got bad. Thankfully Jack was there to ground him :> - Why yes that was my projecting a little, why do you ask - Seriously tho he loves Judy sm he'd die for her in a heartbeat - Eventually grows to love Jack to the point he'd also die for him - I like to think John and Frank were really close when they were kids, not as close as Lila and Jaune but damn near it. Growing apart hurt. Discovering Frank's… business hurt even more, for the both of them - In general he misses when they were all just kids goofing around, not having to worry about anything - Also misses Jane. He loved her so much; losing her devastated him. Part of him to this day feels at fault for her death, even though there was nothing he could do - Absolutely stole this headcanon from @the-tick-tock-chaos-shoppe but I have become very attached to it: John has ADHD. He went undiagnosed and has no idea he has it - Not helping matters is that Jaune ALSO has ADHD and was diagnosed (this is also a headcanon), so that hyper and bubbly personality is just what John associates with it; if someone went "hey I think you have ADHD" he'd be in complete denial lol - When he was a kid he'd always have lollipops or straws in his mouth. When he got too old for that, it was pencils and pens, and when he got too old for that, he started smoking - It is absolutely a sensory thing and he doesn't realize it is a sensory thing. Mans just needs something in his mouth - If he happens to run out of cigarettes he goes back to pencils and pens. There are bite marks on all of the pencils at the police station lmao - One time he took a pen from Evermore's office and just went to town on it - Other stims for him include tapping his fingers on tables/desks, flicking his lighter repeatedly, and bouncing a pencil between his fingers/against the table - In general him stimming is a lot more subtle than Jack, usually doesn't even realize he's doing it - Definitely the type of person to flip the "lucky cigarette" when he first opens a pack. This has lead him to accidentally putting the end with tobacco in his mouth because he forgot about it, multiple times - Has really bad road rage. This is why Jack drives - As his kid self's costume would suggest, he's always dreamed of being a cop. It… definitely isn't what he thought it'd be, that's for sure - Is bisexual. Did not realize this until he met Jack - His favorite donuts are caramel glazed - I just want him to be soft and put down his dang walls

Jack

- Silly cop man!! I love him - Just a big ol' goofball with a big heart - Cares a lot for John and would absolutely die for him - Lowkey I love how he snaps at the end of Tender Treats, like YEAH GET HIS ASS!!! - Great with kids! Judy adores him - Has a tea kettle! it's easier to use than a coffee maker in his opinion, he can make things other than coffee with it, and the noise actively reminds him to take it off the stove because he WILL forget otherwise - Got bullied a lot in school because he was the "weird kid". After he graduated high school Jack left his home town and never looked back - Became a cop because he wanted to help people. Was not at all prepared for The Horrors - Is usually the one that patrols the cellblocks - Bob made a point to give him a fun fact every time Jack passed his cell and Jack got so sick of it, lol. Part of him was glad Bob broke out of jail just because he didn't have to hear it anymore - That partially attributed to why Jack got so pissed after Bob climbed onto their squad car (alongside y'know, surviving a bullet to the back and 27 to the chest) - He is autistic :> Like John he wasn't diagnosed, tho Jack's pretty sure he has it and is okay with that - Wringing/clasping his hands together is a nervous stim. In general Jack's stims usually involve his body, like cracking his knuckles, tapping his foot, or that little shimmy he does in the Newgrounds ending for Deadly Smiles - Also shakes his fists when he's excited, but tries not to do it at work - Pranks John sometimes to lighten the mood/make him smile - Has a surprisingly dark sense of humor - Literally him not understanding that using the actual dead body of some super cannibal for a joke was so funny (and very mecore) - After the whole thing with Mr. Clown, Jack had a panic attack in their police car and John had to calm him down :< - Actually a great cook! It's a hobby for him - Also loves to bake ^^ this is also a hc I stole from tick-tock, but hey it's sweet (literally) and I like it - He still gets donuts from GoNuts tho since they make them WAY better than he can - Always makes his eggs scrambled because regular eggs feel weird to him - Prior to Deadly Smiles, he didn't take the cult seriously. That changed real fast when they came back to John's house on fire - Gay gay homosexual gay - His favorite donuts are chocolate with sprinkles - Gives great hugs! He's been compared to a walking pillow - He's just a big softie aaaa

- No thoughts, head empty vs many thoughts, head full - The OG sun/moon duo next to the thieves - Jack is the one who catches feelings for John first, and for a while he just. Sits on it not knowing what to do with it - Like he loves John, he knows he does, but he doesn't know if John feels the same way and really doesn't want to make things awkward between them, or worse case scenario outright ruin their friendship - John... whoo boy - Man's just in a big deep pit of denial for the longest time - Literally Jack was John's bi awakening, so John tried his damn hardest to pass off these feelings as anything else - When he finally realized "oh god I'm in love with him", his face went bright red (I'm specifically thinking of that one series of sketches by necr0dancin and I REALLY hope people know what I'm talking about) - Even after that it was still heavy denial because he didn't know if Jack felt the same way, didn't think Jack could love someone like him, AND he still had lingering feelings for Jane, and felt that finding someone new, hell maybe even feeling this way at all, was betraying her - So yeah John had a lot of roadblocks in comparison kjdfnkjf - Eventually Jack, with some spurring from Patty (and maybe Captain and Shotgun) does manage to confess. John doesn't know how to feel but god it's a weight off his shoulders knowing Jack feels that way about him too - Jack meanwhile is so damn happy it's reciprocated! He didn't fuck things up!! Now maybe they can kiss!!! - It's clumsy and messy as all get out, but they're partners now, in work and in love - Uhhh okay now that my full-ass setup is out of the way let's get to the cute stuff - Stress + overworking + his house burning down = that sickness John caught absolutely WRECKS him, he's tired and feels like shit for at least a week. Cue Jack taking care of him, all the while teasing him because he told him that coffee mug was gonna get him sick - Literally there is so much potential in John and Judy staying at Jack's house after theirs burns down oh my god - They're both surprising horror movie buffs: John's favorite movie is Nightmare on Elm Street, Jack's is Friday the 13th. Freddy vs. Jason is a guilty pleasure for them both - Sometimes Jack will lay his chin on John's hair. It's very soft - If he's okay with it Jack will also run his fingers through John's hair - The ways they show affection is just. So small but so meaningful. - Jack keeps a couple cigarettes on him even though he doesn't smoke and doesn't really like John smoking, just in case John runs out - John listens intently whenever Jack goes on a tangent, and it's one of the few things he's able to fully focus on next to work and his kid - Enjoying each other in silence, the only sounds being the white noise of a heater or TV - The damn SIZE DIFFERENCE with these two when they hug and cuddle my word - They're both forgetful as all hell - fittingly, Jack remembers what John doesn't and vice versa - They're both absolutely the type of person to walk into a room and immediately go "what did I come in here for again?" tho, sometimes at the same time - I want them to be soft and in love so bad

✉ extraordinary attorney woo | ep 14 thoughts heartbreaks, hanbadaz, and heading towards the big bad

first things first: this is youngwoo's best outfit END OF DISCUSSION

(and the fact that they match too)

↳ heartbreaks i'm gonna address this first because i already wrote a very emotional post about it (that i sort of regret doing now).

the breakup scene was painful to watch but pushing my attachment aside, nothing felt out of place. they showed us the whys and hows of youngwoo making this decision, how much it actually hurts her. junho is capable of being upset, and him snapping like that isn't ooc either. and to really push the angst in deep, they showed us the breakup scene in the middle of the episode followed by the aftermath aka the YEARNING. and we'll get more of that in the next ep.

i honestly thought they'd leave it at the very end, but this is better, i think? because we saw that there's still hope. there's room to talk and work things out because they still, clearly, like each other very much. this is all just a block on the road they need to kick away.

(i'm way too emotionally attached to this relationship, so if it doesn't end in marriage i'll riot)

junho getting cutesy pouty drunk was funny, and then pair it up with geurami and minsik singing a song about breakups.

but youngwoo the entire time :( her first heartbreak. at the plane back to seoul, when they focused on her fixing her seatbelt because junho reminded her to wear it properly in the last ep, WHAT WAS THE REASON??? she misses him so much but she doesn't do anything about it because she wants to do what she thinks is best for junho.

i also can't believe that it was minwoo who gave junho a somehow rational reason as to why she broke up with him. i don't like agreeing with him. i was almost going to give him a chance then and there, BUT of course, he just had to say that breaking up was for the best because junho "can't handle youngwoo," and then we're back to regular scheduled programming of hating his ass.

imzeroclock on twt provided a translation of his slip up, and he was actually referring to the secret of her birth. it sets up what's about to happen next week.

overall, eunbin and taeoh did great! i'm still BROKEN. seeing them apart while eating was painful. (if we get lunch scenes where they're sitting in different tables next week but all they keep doing is steal glances at each other, i'm gonna scream)

but, again, i want to have hope - even if that failed me last time. but it was clear this time around. there's still a chance. they'll be okay.

↳ hanbadaz myeongseok's babies are all grown up!

after the offer myeongseok made to the abbot, the three rookies were inspired and had done something similar for the haengbok noodles owner. youngwoo's words of affirmation to myeongseok was what he needed, and seeing these two's mentor-mentee relationship bloom is so wholesome and the best thing about ep 14.

bless youngwoo for not giving up on trying to find the owner all for the sake of myeongseok. we're seeing her shine brighter each episode, becoming more aware of the people around her and their needs. i love her character so much.

the squad eating noodles was a heartwarming scene, and although it can be read that something bad might happen to myeongseok like he's saying goodbye, i don't think they can fit that in the last two eps. next week will all be about youngwoo and overcoming everything that was thrown at her.

which is why i feel like myeongseok's arc is complete now? he won't be working in the next ep because he'll undergo surgery and is hopefully recovering. that's why the rookies are under atty jang now. but i hope he comes back soon.

no major comments about minwoo and suyeon. it was bound to happen. if that becomes a tool to shape minwoo's arc, then sure whatever. but i know that suyeon liking minwoo won't change her love and urge to protect youngwoo from him. (she still deserves better because he's still an ableist asshole)

geurami tho T-T i'm glad she's going to start getting over minwoo!! you deserve better babie! if it's mr hairy, then i'll root for you two!

↳ heading towards the big bad ceo han is the literal definition of gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss

i remember when she acted so shocked that papa gwangho would assume that she hired youngwoo to use her against taesumi, AND YET

i'm not siding with either ceo han or taesumi. i hope myeongseok and his kids leave at some point and ceo han's schemes are uncovered. i hope taesumi doesn't get the position. although, i do feel more sympathetic towards taesumi because of her past. but how she's acting towards youngwoo is rubbing me off the wrong way.

i'm on youngwoo's side through and through. i hope she defeats them both.

with everything that youngwoo's been through, she'll get through the aftermath of whatever plan ceo han has. she has her friends by her side, thank god for suyeon and geurami, but we all know she's tough and badass on her own. SHE'S A SMART BADDIE

(that preview tho. i'm a sucker for tropes where character A is in danger and character B, hopelessly in love with A, overcome with worry, runs to protect them. GIVE ME AN HOUR OF THAT)

anyway. is ep 14 a bad ep? i'm torn to be honest. i wish we didn't get angst, but i also want to give it a chance and see where they lead with it. the entire jeju-do trip was heartbreaking and then heartwarming, a whole rollercoaster. but i enjoyed a lot of the scenes in it and i'm currently an emotional wreck.

do i think it's rushed? we'll see i guess? it's hard to say it is with finality when there are still 2 eps left. but if they squeeze in too much drama in the final ep and not a lot of junho and youngwoo being domestic and married, then yes it is.

but, again, this is just me rambling. i'll see you guys soon!

It’s been a while…

I’m gonna be honest, it’s not been the same for me with iKON after Hanbin left. For me there was no iKON without him, but I realized now that maybe I was wrong. For the longest I’ve blamed YG for being the reason our boys couldn’t be with each other anymore, but then I realized that Hanbin made the decision of leaving himself and I’m trying to accept that. My theory is that Hanbin was unhappy. I don’t think that being with his brothers made him unhappy cause we all know he loves them so much, and they him. What I think made him unhappy was the responsibility that he had as a leader. I mean he was an extraordinary leader who worked so hard for those that he loved, and maybe forgot about himself a little? Just like he said himself “What am I living for? I’m living for my fam, for my fans, for my team, for myself.” He always chose himself last, to the point that he worked non stop, even on his own birthdays. I think that with that mindset, he became more and more unhappy over the years despite all the success he experienced. He also said that he usually keeps to himself when he has a bad day and I can’t begin to imagine all the things he went through at that time. I think that incident that happened was the breaking point for him. And we also know now that he was innocent. And I think by leaving iKON he finally chose himself for the first time ever. In my opinion he didn’t leave his brothers, but rather his responsibilities as a leader so he could focus more on himself. I used to think that iKON was nothing without their leader, but I was wrong. The boys are super talented and keep coming out with bops. And Hanbin, I’m happy for him and all his success. And even tho we might not see all of them together anymore we just have to trust that behind cameras, all of them still hang out together from time to time.

Suzuka unserious race overview by me

Well hello it's me again. I kinda didn't want to do this today but I promised myself to do it every race so I don't forget about the races and how they made me feel so let's get going under the cut.

1. Red Bull

So so nice to see Max back at the top again. I don't see the haters cheering this time. You can have ONE (1) race to cheer and Max will be back at it stronger than ever after. Who's laughing now? I was really pissed off last time ok?

Perez is also back in his usual form which was kinda nice to see. My beef with him is now over and he can stay.

2. Ferrari

Every race I come here wondering if I'm gonna have another bad thing to say about Ferrari and every race I'm dissapointed. Remember how I said team orders were a good call last race? Well this race it was the wrong decision to make. The way they told Charles was condescending and he was not in fact fighting Norris. They should have held position and everything would have been the same. But noo for some reason Ferrari has to make everything about the driver who is leaving in a year. Garbage team with garbage priorities.

Carlos again drove a very mid race. I cant believe someone voted for him for dotd like what does he even do at this point.

Charles on the other hand? Incredible amazing extraordinary showstopping a fucking masterclass drive by him. He deserved the podium. He deserves everything in the world if you ask me. But I am so proud of my boy and I can't wait until he figures out quali and crashed everyone. Soon. Soon Soon.

3. McLaren

I was shitting on Lando right after the race a lot because he didn't manage to defend against Carlos but thinking about it now... Lando did nothing wrong (aside from lock up 🙄). McLarens strategies sucked so bad It was actually embarrassing. For both drivers. On top of a bad strategy Oscar had a bad race on his part as well. That Tyre degradation compared to his teammate is worrying. He can work on it but it's something he really really needs to figure out and soon. On pace Lando was good and he could've beaten Carlos if McLaren were just a little more capable as a team.

4. Mercedes

What the actual fuck is wrong with Mercedes? How are they so slow? Lewis is barely racing he's just vibing at this point. Poor George is trying but nothing is working evidently. Just.. embarrassing. And then you have Toto yapping about Max left and right? Bffr sir you will be struggling to find a driver at this point yet alone Max. Maybe one of the Alpines will want to switch it up for a faster slow car. Try there.

5. Aston Martin

Stroll and Lance are racing in different categories. Idk what Stroll is doing but it's not it. One race he's decent the next he fumbles it hard. It goes back and forth. Fernando may be a pain in the ass but he's consistent and a good driver. Nothing to add. Stroll do better.

YUKI POINT!!!!!!!!!! AT HIS HOME RACE!!!!!! THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER!!!!! I'm so so happy for him, he's been doing an exceptional job. 👏

Danny..... I read the report and it sounds like he (and Alex) got unlucky. But that seat is slipping away real real fast if you ask me.

7. Haas

Another decent race for Haas. They couldn't do more than that tho, they never would have. There was not enough DNFs in the top spots. Unfortunately it has come to this. If the lower teams want some points they need to fight for the 1 spot left out by Strolls incompetence. The field is so devided this is our reality. Unfortunately. Still a positive race for them. Still rooting for them so much.

8. Sauber

They raced? Honestly I don't remember. I saw Bottas pass Sargeant but that's about it. Ohhhhh Zhou DNFed. I hope it doesn't happen next race. Other than that 🤷‍♀️

9. Alpine

Not alpine touching 2 minutes into the race. They were so slow even Sargeant passed them twice. Ocon and Gasly need to find themselves better seats next year. Where are Travis Kelces money I wonder? It's just sad.

10. Williams

No words. Just no words. Another chasis ruined. They will not have a single car for Miami with this pace. Not Albons fault this time but still kinda is. You were saying 3 days ago that you need to be more careful so why tf were you not more careful? I get it wasn't his fault but like... less risky moves maybe? You're fighting for 15th ffs.

Hawkins never felt all the strange or special to her, but her opinion changes after being dragged into the horrors that hide in the forests. Interdimensional monsters and psychic people are not what Bonnie would have ever imagined showing up in Hawkins!

GRABBING HER BOOKS FROM HER LOCKER, BONNIE sighed heavily. It might have only been Wednesday, but the week was already testing her. Halfway through the week she was getting close to her wits end. Samuel was being an asshole, which isn’t all that new, her mother was now becoming overbearing after the news of Will reached her, and her father was starting to become overprotective. If her parents had it their way, they would assign Samuel as Bonnie’s personal bodyguard.

‘As if he’d ever agree to that,’ Bonnie rolled her eyes as she turned to walk to her first class.

Just as she turned she nearly ran into Steve Harrington as he came sauntering down the hall. She gave him the stink eye as he passed while he did not spare a look at her as he went. It wasn’t a surprise to see the boy swagger up to his girlfriend. Bonnie silently watched them as they talked for a short while. Nancy jumped at Steve’s arrival, she noticed. Not only that but Steve seemed more than elated with seeing her. Bonnie would even say that he was glowing. She could only make a pretty accurate assumption as to why. Which also might explain why Nancy seemed… shy, in Bonnie’s words. However, in case she seemed like a creep, Bonnie moved on. Whatever they were talking about was not her business nor did she care.

“Hey, little lady,” Gareth greeted her as he came waltzing down the busy hall.

Bonnie smiled widely at his arrival. She loves getting to see her good friends in the morning. Though most of the time they’re either too late for her to see them in the morning, or they were skipping. So getting to see any of them always brought a sweet smile to her face.

“Anything exciting planned today?” He asked her as they started to head off. Like the gentleman he is, he was walking her to her first class for the day, which was calculus. A class that Bonnie despised right next to chemistry. Bonnie just isn’t good when it comes to numbers and formulas. Though she still got herself prepared for the grueling class. Gareth certainly wasn’t opposed to walking her, since as they say, “freaks together, stay together” or something silly like that.

She shrugged her shoulders at his question. There wasn’t much that she wanted to do today besides survive her classes and then hang out with Hellfire after school. A perfectly normal day.

“You need a ride from Eddie after school?” Bonnie rolled her eyes and shook her head. Gareth knew what that must mean. “Issues with your big brother.” It wasn’t a question, he already knew. They were well aware of all the issues that Samuel caused for Bonnie on a near daily basis. “That jackass really doesn’t know how to just be a decent human being.” Samuel is the embodiment of the people that Hellfire hates. It’s unfortunate that he happens to be the brother of a good friend of theirs, but you can’t choose your family.

Bonnie gave him a look as if that was an impossible notion, Samuel would never be a decent human being. Even if it were to benefit him in the long or short run. Gareth laughed at that, since he knew what she was getting at. After being friends ever since they met, most of the Hellfire club was able to read Bonnie’s nonverbal communication pretty easily. In the beginning none of the boys knew how to go about talking to her or what she could be meaning by not speaking. Though after a while, a long while, they got it down to a science. Gareth had to be the one who was the best at reading her. After a few more little comments about their day and how horrible Samuel can be, the two friends made it to the door of Bonnie’s calculus class. Gareth bid her a goodbye and headed to his own class for the day.

Bonnie made herself as comfortable as she could at her desk, preparing herself to go through this daily torture. As more students piled into the classroom, ignoring Bonnie’s existence and getting seated, Nancy finally came in. She hurried to her seat, either more than ready to get right to work or something else. Though Bonnie noticed something.

Once Nancy asked one of their classmates something, her demeanor grew weird in Bonnie’s eyes. In the hallway, Bonnie figured that whatever had been going on with her and Steve made her slightly nervous, but after coming into the class and asking a classmate something it became worse.

Bonnie isn’t close to Nancy, that was quite obvious. Bonnie would say that they are close acquaintances. They weren’t hanging out after school, going shopping in town, going to the local diner together to gossip and gush over boys, they weren’t friends. Would Bonnie like to say that they were friends? Maybe, it would be nice to have more girl friends. Though that still didn’t change the fact that she knew Nancy didn’t view her as a close friend. However, Bonnie would say that she knows Nancy.

Being observant like her, Bonnie could see the little ticks that make up a person. The tells that people subconsciously have were quite blatant for her to say. Perhaps it was because she was not focused on what she was going to be saying to them and could instead see what they were nonverbally saying to everyone.

She could see the little tells in Nancy’s demeanor and it was strange. From the silent communication from Nancy’s twitching, Bonnie knew that something wasn’t right. Nancy was nervous. She didn’t know what Nancy would be nervous about. Did they have a test that Bonnie forgot about? Did Nancy forget to do some homework?

‘No that can’t be it.’ Bonnie thought to herself, ‘Nancy’s always on top of school work.’

So if it wasn’t school work that was bothering Nancy, what could it be? From the way that Nancy’s leg was bouncing under her desk, and her eyes darted to the door every time someone walked through the door, Bonnie figured she was looking for someone.

‘Barbs not here yet,’ Bonnie thought looking at the empty desk in front of Nancy. ‘Which is weird.’ Everyone knew that Barbara Holland was one of the best students at Hawkin High. She was never late to school, never missed an assignment, never missed a day of school. So it’s out of character for her not to be five minutes before the bell rang. Perhaps that was something to worry about, though there was no need to overthink things. Still, there already was one kid who went missing, Bonnie could only hope that Barb didn’t get added to it.

Bonnie might not be super close to Nancy, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t concerned. Hesitantly, Bonnie tapped on Nancy’s shoulder to get her attention. The other girl jumped slightly at the sudden tap but turned around.

“Oh,” Nancy did her best to smile, though it was more of a cringe, “morning, Bonnie.”

Bonnie gave her a tight-lipped smile in return as her eyes portrayed how concerned she was at Nancy’s odd behavior. She then pointed at Barb's desk silently asking, ‘Where’s Barb?’

Nancy figured what she was saying, “I don’t know where Barb is. You haven’t seen her?”

Bonnie shook her head, ‘I wouldn’t be asking if I knew already.’

“I haven’t heard from her since last night,” Nancy explained, “she must just be a bit late.” Nancy was trying to convince herself of that, though both of them knew that it wasn’t that convincing. Nancy trailed off, thinking back to last night and how it ended up. Bonnie could tell that there was a bit of a conflict in Nancy’s mind having to think back to it. She doesn’t know what Nancy or any of her friends get up to out of school, but she knew Nancy wouldn’t get herself into trouble.

Doing her best to silently portray her concern clearly, Bonnie gave Nancy a reassuring smile. She could tell from Nancy’s furrowed eyebrows, pursed lips and wide eyes that something happened between Nancy and Barb. She could recognize the look of someone who was regretting something or thinking back on a not so pleasant memory.

Though to imagine that not even Nancy knows Barb’s whereabouts is more than concerning. Bonnie knew that Barb and Nancy were attached at the hip in some regards. Sure, Bonnie didn’t know everything about the two, but everyone knew that they were the definition of best friends. Which made the knowledge of Nancy not knowing where Barb was even more concerning. Their teacher came into the room, telling the room of rambunctious students to quiet down, even though they weren’t really going to listen. And so began the next forty five minutes of torture for Bonnie Ward.

Once school was over, Bonnie’s mind was still thinking back on Barb. All throughout the day she kept an eye out for her red hair and big glasses, but didn’t catch any sight of her at all. She even enlisted the help of her friends to keep an eye out, though they had yet to say anything about seeing her. Just as she was walking out of the school when she spotted Nancy at one of the pay phones. Wanting to see if there were any updates about Barb being missing.

“Sorry to bother you.” Nancy said, her tone growing worried as she hung up the phone. She stared at the receiver for a moment and sighed heavily. The conversation that she had with Mrs. Holland was not a progressive one. Not even she knew where Barb was, which was extremely concerning. Nancy turned around and came face to face with a silent Bonnie. “Ah, Bonnie! You kind of scared me.” Bonnie smiled apologetically, since she knew she shouldn’t have scared the poor girl. She just happens to be a completely silent person, that goes for talking and walking. Plenty of people have told her that she needs to wear a bell so they can hear her coming. Nancy gave Bonnie a tight-lipped smile, “I called Barb’s mom, she hasn’t seen her either.”

Now that is definitely beyond concerning. If Barb’s own mother didn’t know where Barb was and why she wasn’t at school, then where the hell was Barb? The worry etched on Bonnie’s face certainly was mirrored on Nancy’s. Bonnie wasn’t close to them as good friends, but anyone would be worried about all of this happening to anyone. First Will Byers goes missing, now Barb. This wasn’t sitting right in her chest.

There was a far off look in Nancy’s eyes as she said, “There’s something wrong, and I want to find out what.” Bonnie pursed her lips and nodded her head. She tapped Nancy’s arm, gaining her attention and pointing to herself. It took a moment for Nancy to understand what Bonnie was getting at before it clicked. “You want to help?” Bonnie nodded, “I guess there’s no harm in having someone else looking with me.” Bonnie smiled reassuringly. The only thing they could do was look and hope that nothing bad had happened to Barb. Nothing bad happened in Hawkins, after all.

The pair then spotted a group forming. It was easy to spot Steve with his pompous hair and his lackeys behind him. So Nancy started to approach them. Bonnie followed behind though kept her distance slightly. “What’s going on?” Nancy asked, glancing at all of them. Jonathan wasn’t looking in her direction and Steve looked quite pissed. Whatever it is that happened here was not something good.

“Here’s the starring lady,” Carol announced at their arrival.

Nancy’s eyebrows furrowed at all the attention, “What?”

Bonnie made sure to make herself seem separate from Nancy. The sneers that she was getting from the other popular kids surrounding Jonathan like a pack of hyenas gave her an unsettling feeling. Whatever they had walked up on was not something pleasant in the slightest. Though the group certainly didn’t seem to be happy with her appearance.

“This creep was spying on us last night.” Carol explained, handing Nancy a photo. “He was probably gonna save this one for later.”

Nancy took the photograph from her to see that it was a black and white photo of her. Though it wasn’t like she knew the photo was being taken. She had her back to the camera, just in a bra, and in a window. Obviously, it wasn’t something that should have been photographed.

Bonnie peered at the picture over her shoulder, but averted her eyes quickly. Her eyes widened as she glanced at Jonathan from the corner of her eyes. He at least had the decency to appear ashamed. Though she wondered if he was ashamed of his actions or of being caught. She knew that Jonathan liked taking pictures, he told her once he loves capturing raw moments of people in their elements. Though this was far beyond that. It was just down right creepy.

“See,” Steve sneered, “you can tell that he knows it was wrong, but… Man, that’s the thing about perverts… It’s hardwired into ’em. You know, they just can’t help themselves. So… we’ll just have to take away his toy.”

“Steve…” Nancy started, but stopped not really knowing what to say.

“No,” Jonathan started to beg, “please, not the camera.”

As much as Bonnie wanted to stand up for Jonathan, she really couldn’t justify it in her mind. Jonathan gets picked on a lot, just like anyone else the school deemed a freak. Though at the moment… Jonathan was beyond just a freak at the moment. It was perverted to do the things he did, and Bonnie couldn’t find it in herself to defend him at the moment. There was proof of what he had done, being quite the creep.

“No, no, wait, wait…” Steve said, taking the camera with a sick smirk, “Tommy, Tommy. It’s okay. Here you go, man.” He held it out for Jonathan to take it back. Though before Jonathan could properly take the camera, Steve dropped it. Bonnie cringed at the sound of it hitting the ground, the lens cracking as it fell. She knew how much Jonathan loved that camera, and it was disheartening to see it broken, but she wasn’t sure if she disagreed with Steve. It was harsh, but their privacy was breached, it was understandable that they’d be upset. Steve just glared down at Jonathan as he turned away, “Come on, let’s go. The game’s about to start.”

“Boo,” Tommy menacingly whispered to Jonathan as he passed.

Carol threw the photos in her hands on the ground and sang, “Bye.”

Nancy stayed behind for a moment, spying the photos on the ground. She saw the revealing one of her and grabbed it from the ground and also grabbed a few of the ripped up ones. She kept glancing up at Jonathan uneasily before hastily grabbing the pieces.

“Hey, Nance!” Steve shouted out, “Come on.”

Nancy gave Jonathan one last look before saying to Bonnie, “meet me at the school entrance after the game.” Then she left Jonathan and Bonnie alone.

Jonathan knew that he wasn’t going to really get much sympathy from Bonnie at that moment. He couldn’t even look at her due to his shame. He could feel the disappointment wafting off of her like a wave. He didn’t need to see her soulful eyes filled with sorrow in his actions. So he just settled for trying to clean up his newly broken camera as Bonnie shuffled away.

Thankfully, today was one of the days that the Hellfire Club was having a short meeting. They had finished one of their most intense campaigns the other day, and Eddie was getting the newest one set up. So today was nothing more than a short hang out for the boys and Bonnie to hang out, talk a bit, plan some things before heading home.

However, as Bonnie was making her way out of the school, declining yet another offer from Eddie to get a ride home. She still had to stay til the game ended and she met up with Nancy. So she’ll just sit outside, enjoy the chilly afternoon as much as she can, and get a start on some homework. Though only after about five minutes of waiting, the school doors slammed open and it was Nancy. She was in a bit of a rush until she spotted Bonnie’s startled expression sitting by the front doors.

“Come on,” Nancy said and just continued on marching to her car. She was on a mission to start the search for Barb, and Bonnie wasn’t going to let her go on her own. So Bonnie hastily packed up her things before bounding after Nancy before the girl took off without her.

They climbed into Nancy’s car and she peeled out of the parking lot quite quickly. “We have to check Steve’s house. That’s the last place I saw her, so it seems like a good place to start, right?” Bonnie just nodded her head anxiously.

The car ride over to Steve’s house was quiet. Nancy hadn’t even turned on the radio to fill the silence. Even if Bonnie felt like talking to Nancy, she wouldn’t know what to say. ‘Would I ask her what she thought? Maybe ask her more about what she already knew about Barb being gone.’ Bonnie thought to herself. It’s not like she could just make comments about their homework or something mundane while they have the looming thought of Barb’s disappearance.

Though there were a bit more questions racing through her mind. Why Nancy had recruited her to help with the small-scale search for Barb, Bonnie wasn’t sure. Nancy could have gone to a closer friend of hers, like Ally or someone. Hell, Bonnie wondered why Nancy hadn’t asked Steve to do this with her. After all, it is his house. She didn’t know why they had to be a bit sneaky about their search, but she didn’t care to ask at the moment. What mattered was making sure that they found something to do with Barb’s strange disappearance.

The two arrived on the stretch of road where the Harrington’s house resided. When they parked the car, they climbed out to see Barb’s car parked in front of them.

“It’s still in the same spot.” Nancy breathed out as they approached the car. She glanced at Bonnie who shrugged her shoulders.

‘As if I’d know why her car is still here.’ Bonnie thought as her stomach churned, ‘though why she would leave her car behind is not making me feel any better about this.’ People don’t just leave their cars behind without a good reason. This only cemented the idea of something being really, really wrong with Barb.

“Barb?” Nancy called out, “Barb!”

The two stayed close together, not really wanting to stray too far from each other in case something happened to the other. The last thing they need is for another person to go missing or get in trouble while looking for the missing Barb. They headed towards Steve’s house, and Bonnie was certain that they Even if this was just Steve’s backyard, there still wasn’t any need to risk getting lost.

“Barb? Barb?” Nancy called out as they ventured further in. “Barb?” Bushes rustled behind them, scaring them just a little bit. An unsettling feeling washed over the two as they held their breath. There was something there… Just as they were eyeing their surroundings a figure ran close by them. “Oh!”

At the sight of something running nearby them, the two took off. They raced back to Nancy’s car and quickly climbed in. Their breath was ragged after their sprint back to relative safety as Nancy started up her car and drove off as quickly as possible.

“What the hell was that?!” Nancy asked, though Bonnie just stared at her with wide brown eyes.

The ride to Nancy’s house was tense. Neither girl knew what to think after what they had seen, if what they had seen was true. Bonnie relies on her abilities to observe things and would say she has a sharp eye to spot things. Though what they saw… It was some strange creature. It had no face! It was humanoid but certainly not human by any means.

Nancy hadn’t suggested taking Bonnie home. Perhaps the idea didn’t even cross Nancy’s mind since she was quite disturbed by what had happened. Hell, Bonnie wasn’t necessarily thinking of going home just yet since she was too disgustingly curious about what they saw. They made it to Nancy’s house and headed inside.

“Hey!” Mrs. Wheeler shouted out in greeting as the two entered the house. “You’re home early! How was the game?” She asked before noticing another girl alongside her daughter, “Oh, you brought a friend over?” Though she then noticed the distraught expressions on the girls’ faces. It alarmed her that there was something wrong with them. “Nancy? What’s the matter?”

“It’s Barb,” Nancy breathed out, tears rimming her eyes, “I think… something happened. Something terrible.”

Yesterday my dad called me and Im just not able to lie so I cried and told him about how much I was stressed out, he was first angry that I missed school but it turned out good I think. I did not told him I had suicidal thoughts tho ofc

Today was pretty ok, I went to school even tho I did 0 homework and manage not to get yelled out by teachers. I dont know why I assumed teachers would yell at me, its been years since a teacher has been mean to me but its just sticking to me I guess.

This journal was really a good idea, I never sorted out how I felt about school anxiety and I just now can pinpoint about certain teachers 3 or 2 years ago making me feel like shit.

Anyway I talked with some people today, nothing extraordinary but its still more than my school days so far with 0 human interaction haha, but theres a weird thing going on. Thats gonna be a long story to set the scene.

I previously talked about the girl I was with last year not wanting to be friends, but theres also her group not even aknowledging my existence. What really bothers me and makes me feel like they dont like me at ALL was that they slightly made me leave their table. At first they ignored me when I tried talking, then one day they all had at the same time this problem about wanting to have a table of 2 per person, I guess thats pretty useful but the way they put it was off, they had this problem after I was absent one day and a friend of them sat at my table of two, not in my seat tho and I sat there like usual. Then they were like "omggg thats gonna be so problematic" but thinking back about the scene it really was a problem for ONE person and they made it sound like it was a group problem. Anyway they added a table, I was then all the way to the left, then they started beeing closer to each other to the right and boom I was alone far from everyone.

I talked about this story to say, after I was absent again my chair dissapeared, thats when T and B asked me to sit at their table and i did so, but today my chair dissapeared there too ? Maybe a teacher used it coz it was convienient but where did it go, it dosnt looks like there was a chair missplaced but straight up dissapearing.

I also made theories about why the girl that seemed to dislike me would do so (Im gonna call her O) sooo O the girl that was in my class last year, the only time I interacted with her was a weird drama I was made the vilain in, basically I was in a group of two with someone else and she did not do her job, saying "ye I dont care if I have 0 I wont go do the presentation" and then when it was time to talk in front of the whole class she broke up in tears and pointed at me saying I was ghosting her and forced her to do everything. Sooo even tho I explained everything some people wernt aware of what really happened and O might still look at me as the awful doing nothing person idk 😨but that was theory 1, theory 2 is Im just akward, theory 3 now, is that she likes T.

I really like this guy coz I feel like we look alike so thats really the first person I try to be friends with, hes also one of the few person i interacted with even in my veryyyy akward phase (lets say Im less akward now even tho thats not the case I think) So why do I think that she might like him ? I theorise it was just a little crush and/or shes trying to stop now that he made clear he likes men lmao, but she really was a lot on his back sending messages not to forget homeworks, it even pissed him off once (idk if he was genuinly pissed and tried to hide it by laughing afterwards or I interpret wrong) and just her body language near him hahaha. I dont know if she looks at me so bad everyday and I just noticed when I was talking to T but wowwww. T is very popular with girls, and just everyone I think. There are other girls that seemed flustered when he talked to them and I heard gossip about his love life. YOU KNOW WHERE IT WAS GOING NO ? WHAT IF ITS A JEALOUSY ACT lmaoooo would be so funny but my brain is just making up funny extreme stuff to entertain me and this blog I guess.

Yesterday it sounded like I was starving but I ate something 👍today I watched jjba instead tho, oopsi

its only been 2 says since I started posting, I know tumblr is basically dead but I wonder if anyone is gonna read all of this once omgggg

imo the case's biggest contribution to this ep was that it brought all of them to jeju-do.

it's the things that happened while the squad was in jeju-do, in the middle of this business trip, were the main focus for me.

1. uncovering myeongseok's divorce. the show gave him the spotlight he deserves.

he told us his past, how much he worked even then that ultimately led to his condition now and his eventual divorce. i don't think he'll d word. we see him walking okay in the ep 14 preview when they visit the temple. (at least, i think it was him) ((also im in denial, he cant be terminally ill. he cant!!))

the squad might be trying to find the haengbok noodles owner for him, i think? but we'll see if that's relevant to the case or not.

2. suyeon and minwoo. is it it surprising that this happened? i don't want to say yes in full confidence but it's not a definite no.

we saw the way the camera focused on him when suyeon got a new hairdo. his reactions to when suyeon said she'd aggressively win someone over were also indications of his interest. those were hints that this was bound to happen. they established this in the first ep, i feel like. your typical enemies to lovers trope.

but does it warrant that confession FROM SUYEON we're getting tomorrow? i honestly don't think so and i hope it's a fake out. minwoo likes suyeon. sure, ok. i can understand, can't say i like it.

but you're telling me that suyeon likes him now? even after knowing what he did to youngwoo? after one walk in jeju? REALLY? if that's the case, i think she falls easily :( she fell for junho and her one night stand i think, and if that's the case, then this thing minwoo actually might make sense. doesn't mean i have to like it tho.

(joo jonghyuk's cute BUT MINWOO? TACTICIAN KWON MINWOO? no. he's a -12)

3. meeting junho's sister. we'll get into that one later.

4. minwoo's backstory. i sympathize with his situation. it's difficult to be the breadwinner of your family. you need to endure everything to provide and it gets incredibly lonely. he's suffering, and i can't fault him for that.

does that excuse his behavior, though? nope.

i can't get behind on a redemtion arc for him. he could've not went to taesumi, or they could've shown us him regretting ever going to her as he uncovers more about taesumi and youngwoo's relationship (or lack thereof) and then he apologizes to youngwoo because that's the least he could do after what he did.

but nah.

i just feel like it's a little too late for them to appeal minwoo to us, to say that he's not that bad of a guy.

he still is, that ableist prick. nothing will ever excuse his behavior towards youngwoo. ever.

but, anyway.

i loved that we got some of the cutest whale couple scenes in this ep! junho smiling when youngwoo arrived, even though he was still upset at her for what happened. youngwoo making junho guess the names of the dolphins in the pics, the plane talk and the whole seatbelt thing - i could be here for a while.

but my personal faves are: (non-verbatim)

"i have 154 (bows) left"

"no, it's still 155. you started late."

"why are you keeping track?"

"just keep going."

and

"i should've rented a van with an open roof, too."

"there are no vans with open roofs."

"right." *in like a "yes dear" type of tone*

if not date, then why wooho act like a couple married for 10 years??? 😭

↳ joined by friends the geurami, minsik, and myeongseok trio was so refreshing and funny to see!! their colorful fits and their singing in the car were top highlights.

i'm so glad they joined, because we not only got to see the whole cast together, but they were there as a saving grace for all the minwoo scenes we got. (hahaha jk... hng)

minsik not being (totally) awkward and sad around suyeon after their failed date is nice. he's still trying, though, but i hope he gets over her.

i love geurami so much and her scenes in this ep just sealed the deal for me. the clock scene is the best one!! she'll do anything for youngwoo, that's her ride or d word!! she'll slay any ticking clock that disturbs youngwoo for eternity.

but she needs to open her eyes and see that minwoo is not the boy for her.

↳ junho's sister is going to have to sleep with one eye open she really does.

i was really hoping that voice we heard in the preview wasn't someone related to junho. i was imagining them both overhearing it, and youngwoo opening up to junho about her worries and him reassuring her that their relationship isn't like that.

but, well.

firstly, junho wanting to introduce youngwoo to his sister is a big deal. that's what you do when you're serious about the relationship. not that we've seen anything from junho that states otherwise. but time and time again, he proves to youngwoo (and us, the viewers) that he's in this for the long run. he's committed!! he knows it will last!! HIS FEELINGS ARE NOT TEMPORARY!!

and it sucks big time that junho's sister clearly doesn't see that, too blinded by her assumptions.

before meeting them, youngwoo asked geurami for tips to impress them. after hearing that junho's sister will be serving them meat and raw fish, no gimbap, youngwoo was hesitant but since she remembered what geurami said, she said it was okay. junho even insisted that she didn't have to force herself to eat them, but she still did.

i made this point in a post earlier, but she did it all for junho. she sat there and ate something she wasn't used to eating because if it meant that junho's sister and her husband will approve of her, then so be it.

but they didn't.

and it led to youngwoo questioning their relationship. "am i someone who can make junho happy?" it's especially painful to hear that after seeing how wide junho's smile is just at the sight of youngwoo alone.

his sister had the audacity to tell him "you're not going to marry her, so don't bother telling our parents."

MAM

in junho's head, they've been married since this scene.

probably.

but he we saw how worried he was before moving forward in this relationship. he's 100% sure of youngwoo. he's down so bad for her and he's in this for the long run.

i've said that, but clearly junho's sister needs it drilled into her head.

my frustrations simmered down a bit now, but i'm still so incredibly disappointed at how things turned out. not at the writers, no. but the scene in general and the fact that we're going to witness a whale couple breakup tomorrow.

they need to be able to communicate this properly. saw someone said that wooho were better at communicating before they were dating, and i can definitely see that. this is a drama, and tbh when i said in ep 12 that their little bickering was necessary, i meant that. and i mean it for this one, too. that doesn't mean i enjoy seeing the angst tho. these are two people i want to protect.

i'd hate for the writers to throw the healthy communication down the drain in ep 14. they should talk it out!! and i mean in that beach, not when they go back home. we have 3 eps left, are they seriously going to make us wait??

also want to point out the glaring plotlines that are missing so far:

junho meeting youngwoo's dad

taesumi and minwoo. how's the deal going?

boston.

we haven't heard anything about boston since ep 11, if i remember correctly, and we have 3, episodes left. i hope they're not ending it with her going to boston, but it's becoming a possibility?

i don't want to think about it and this post is getting way too long and i need to work so.

You guys are giving me way too much power by letting me talk about acting

@minecant you wanted me to rant about Techno and Wilbur's acting? Well, you asked for it

Let's start with Techno bc I realized something this morning and I cannot get it out of my head, let's go.

Techno has a really peculiar way of acting compared to anyone else, his character is a lot more aware of the fourth wall than any other character is, and actually having to keep in check a character that, to certain acting degrees, could be almost considered self-aware is actually harder than you can imagine, and of course everything that's kinda hard in scripted acting goes to a whole new level of difficoult in improv; but on the other hand, his type of acting (more specifically: the voice acting) is on the same page of 3 other characters: Tubbo, Fundy and Niki. Follow me on this, alright? The basically only thing that these 4 characters, that narratively are so different from each other,is the way they are voiced. All four of then have a really specific way of talking and talking pattern, to the point where even if you were to put the voices in a voice-changer you could still know what character is talking just because of the way they talk. Let me elaborate: Fundy usually his voice doesn't let a lot of emotions through and his speech is usually straight to the point, keeping his tone medium and trying to keep his voice relaxed; Niki's usual tone is soft and lighter, is easy to not hear it with her low tone of voice and higher pitch that give her a kinder undertone; Tubbo's tone is also one in a softer scale and lower of volume, but where Niki is easy to miss Tubbo lets a bit more emotion in all phrases to make himself pop out, he doesn't tend to go straight to the point in conversations and his tone is pretty much constant; Techno doesn't let emotions shine through his voice, more like Fundy, but to the extreme, keeping a completly monotone type of speech in basically all the situations and isn't very talkative, a character that talks one when he feels like it's needed and goes straight to the point of the conversation, not caring how that makes him come across to the other characters.

These 4 have incredibly set in stone characters, keeping always to their own set of acting rules for them. It's not easy to set yourself acting rules for your characters in an improv, but if you manage to do it's an in incredible help. Even Wilbur's character was more unhinged under that point of view, his "standard" continuing to change slightly as his mental stage declined.

But you know where does the actual strenght of having these things set in stone for your characters? That the emotions are a lot more powerfull. Let's think about it, why most of the emotive scene shock us? You can usually feel the emotions because the tone of voice lets these emotions through, it hits you because it wasn't there before, it's a switch between the usual voice and the emotive one, it gives you whiplash, but why am I talking about this?

Because these characters are able to express their emotions with a lot more power, because they always talk in a really specific way, you get used ti their tone and speech pattern without noticing it, so you maybe not actually understand it, but your brain notices when the pattern breaks, and since it is a really set in stone one, when it gets broken the whiplash is extreme. Just like when Niki rebelled against Schlatt, the whiplash was her raising her voice and abandoning the soft tone she always used, but kept the classic amount of emotions in her voice, the same thing happens with Techno and his speech: some emotions start to get throught, he doesn't get to the point quickly as always, instead he keeps on talking with extreme confidence in every word, the same confidence he always has. Whiplash guys, whiplash.

I didn't mention Quackity as one of the set-in-stone-speaking characters, because he switches too much to set the rules enough to shock when broken. I'm not saying at all that he isn't a good actor, on the contrary, his acting just works on different bases, example, Try looking at the Quackity vs Schlatt argument compared to the Tubbo vs Tommy: when Quackity got angry it wasn't expected, it was a bit alienating, it didn't feel like the Quackity we know because it was incredibly different than how his character speaks, too different (Which still isn't bad, at all, that scene was phenomenal); when Tubbo got angry it still felt like Tubbo, you could still pinpoint it was Tubbo even without hearing his voice, because even if the voice is raised, the amount of emotions is the same and the speech pattern is the same, just to the next level. So yeah.

I don't even feel like talking about Techno's lines tho, these are amazing under every technical point of view and you guys know that, so let's go to Wilbur.

Wilbur, Wilbur, Wilbur, where can I begin with Wilbur? Not only he had an extraordinary arc for his own character, he also wrote an incredible story- this guy's voice acting is off the charts in every way possible, are you telling me he didn't take acting classes as a kid? i do not believe you. Like, at all. He has a perfect hang on his voice, but this could be because he's also a singer: expressing emotions during songs is harder than you think, because you cannot let emotions ruin your exibition by making your voice crack at the wrong part or making you mess up the timing, but you also need to let them shine through or the voice will seem flat and Wil knows that perfectly, just listen to Your City gave me asthma and you'll understand what I'm going on about here.

Wilbur Soot is a showman. He manovrated the stage to shine a spotlight on himself, making us see what he wants us to see: that's why it took us so much to realize that the character didn't just "go insane" out of nowhere, the seeds were always there, we had all the hints we needed, but he was able to move his character around it, around the arc, in such a way that made us overlook all of those details until they slapped us in the face. He showed us the consequences of his character through other characters, he acted and spoke in a certain way to get a reaction from the others, and the others reacted in the exact way Wilbur planned. And those things aren't scrpited, only major plotpoints are. Wheter this was intentional on his part or it was a coincidence it's not clear, but in either cases it's still pure skill and genius.

Wilbur knew how to act and interact with every character, it's impressive

He even knew how to get Dream on his act on the festival narrative, Dream isn't always top notch at improv and we know that, but if he can get in the loop he is absolutely a distructive force, it's terrifying, and Wilbur knew exactly what to do to get Dream inside the loop of events and it's incredible.

You could guess he knew how to act with Tommy, Tubbo, Ph1lza, Techno and Schlatt, of course he did, he already knew them, but right now he has an incredibly difficoult bit with someone I would have never guessed if I didn't watch the SMP, with Fundy. I have not been in the fandom for a lot of time, but it seems like the two actually met each other on the SMP. They are carrying and incredibly emotional taxing bit with each other, and the SMP lore started just this year- more or less 7/8 months I think? Correct me if I'm wrong. The story bit these two are on is a delicate one, one wrong step and the situation explodes. The fact that they are capable to carrying it even without having known each other for a long time is honestly impressive. Things like this are incredibly hard even when scripted, in improv usually only people who blindly trusted each other for a long time are able to carry it, meanwhile Wilbur and Fundy are flawlessly running with this story arc, the character interactions are perfect, ever act, every word is so incredibly in character for both of them, in scenes like this having to keep perfect track of your character is hard, you have to concentrate on the scene, you cannot stop to think about it, you have only one take and you cannot afford to slow down the act or you risk losing the atmosphere and the momentum of it, and if you do that you'e screwed, you lost an entire scene. In improv you cannot afford slipping up, but if you actually do you have to be incredibly quick to catch yourself, lose two seconds too many and the moment is broken.

Wilbur Soot is incredibly quick to adapt his acting to ever change in his character, having to jump from the power hungry, driven crazy, obsessive, unhinged, paranoid character that is Wilbur to the sad, guilty, scared, repressed, just-wanting-to-be-happy, forgetfull, ignoring character that is Ghostbur is not something easy. Like, at all. It's a cspital switch, and he did it from a day to the other like it's nothing.

Atlas: Enneagram + DMBJ Characters (1/?) ↳ Type Five: Wu Xie

it's been a while since i thought about the enneagram types or listened to sleeping at last. my old series was, however, how i got into editing on this site. i have come a long way since then, editing and fandom wise, and it felt only natural to return to this series for this event. i doubt tho that i will be able to finish all of these edits before it ends (i can leave the tag off later on not to bother the event blog heh)

i am not an expert when it comes to the enneagram types (who even is) but i've always been interested in various types of personality quizzes. sleeping at last's music and the songs about the various types gave me another level of interest. now i wish to apply this love and fondness of the enneagrams and these songs to my newly found (if you can call it that when it's already been over a year) fandom and the characters of daomu biji. i am starting with wu xie as he's the protagonist. here are my thoughts on why he is type five:

"Fives are alert, insightful, and curious. They are able to concentrate and focus on developing complex ideas and skills. Independent, innovative, and inventive, they can also become preoccupied with their thoughts and imaginary constructs. They become detached, yet high-strung and intense."

this is the introduction to type five on the site am using (which i've linked as a source to this post) which seemed like the closest fit to wu xie. assigning these types is always a struggle, and with wu xie, i also considered type two and saw some of the other types in him too. all ppl are complex and no type fits anyone perfectly, so let's just say that wu xie is part type two and most likely has a wing in six (named "the problem-solver"). five is dominant in him however, as fives revolve around the thought of competence and being useful/capable which seemed like driving forces behind wu xie's character. he is also just very thirsty for knowledge which we all love about him (what a nerd).

otherwise, for the good and bad in this type, i looked at the different levels of development (nine different levels). all the types have stages of growth which show their worst and their best qualities. level two says:

"[Fives] observe everything with extraordinary perceptiveness and insight. Most mentally alert, curious, searching intelligence: nothing escapes their notice. Foresight and prediction. Able to concentrate: become engrossed in what has caught their attention."

i think this shows in wu xie during the reboot era when he has grown into himself in the best ways, tho many of the positive traits of fives (being keen to knowledge, wishing to figure out how things work, seeking answers, coming up with plans and different options as well as resourcefulness and insight) are visible during his younger years too. i just think he has cutivated himself more when older, after going through many difficulties.

of the average levels, i felt that level six fit the best:

"[Fives] begin to take an antagonistic stance toward anything which would interfere with their inner world and personal vision. Become provocative and abrasive, with intentionally extreme and radical views. Cynical and argumentative."

and then at his worst wu xie has been on level eight during his sand sea years:

"[Fives] get obsessed yet frightened by their threatening ideas, becoming horrified, delirious, and prey to gross distortions and phobias."

wu xie is very keen to obsessions, overthinking, and self-blame. it is his sense of guilt that often drives him forward and he regrets many things in his life. fives are also said to be keen to isolating themselves which often happens when wu xie doubts his own competence. the worst case is when xiaoge leaves for ten years and wu xie starts his insane mission alone to make sure that xiaoge doesn't have to do this duty again (aka he doubts his ability to fight against forces that harm his friends which leads into self punishment). another example could be xiaoge's memory loss and how wu xie retreats into solving the mystery alone instead of staying beside pangzi and xiaoge at the hospital. he regards it safer to do what he still thinks he's good at instead of wallowing in the feeling of uselessness.

as i see type two traits in wu xie too tho, i think his main instinct is to seek out ppl and connect with them instead of isolating himself inside his own head. type two traits also show in his kindness and forgiveness towards others. with his wing in six, he also brings in his tendency to pull ppl closer, value loyalty, and provide a home for everyone. he is a beacon for others and enjoys this feeling of purpose.
