Love how we were all like, wow it's pretty shitty to make fun of teenagers for liking something mainstream and mediocre, maybe we shouldn't do that anymore...UNLESS IT'S THE THING THAT I PERSONALLY HATE.

Thoughts that don't help when you're trying to sleep:
"Hey, remember that person who told you they were probably autistic, and they were going to get another evaluation, because the first time they were tested as a teenager the conclusion was that they weren't on the spectrum, but now they're saying they didn't get diagnosed as a teenager because they deliberately lied to the tester because they didn't want to be autistic back then?"
And the answer, brain, is that yes, I do remember, and do I have to bring up stuff that upsets me while I'm trying to sleep?
It's been a couple of years, and I'm old enough I really shouldn't still be bothered by this memory, but here I am.
Just the idea that you could lie your way out of an ASD diagnosis. It took a little while to recognise just how much the idea hurt me, because I'm so used to shrugging off my own emotions, and the person thought it was a Funny Story™️ so I treated it as one initially.
I'm level 1 autistic, and I was diagnosed when I was nearly an adult, after I burnt out of high school when I had previously been a gifted high achiever my whole life; do you seriously think I went into my evaluations excited about maybe having autism?

Noticed a strange trend and wanting to test something…
Feel free to reblog for sample size—and feel free to explain further in tags, text reblogs, and replies if you vote! Also please say whether you found it helpful or not (if you read it) if you want; personally, I never do. Just curious about a trend.
(ALSO feel free to tag with any type of neurodivergence or tag or whatever! I cannot reasonably think of every tag or way to be neurodivergent so feel free to help with your tagging! And if a single one of you is ableist towards any form of neurodivergence on this post I will joyously smite you into the sun.)

reading a truly excellent fic from a small fandom, that hasn't been updated in ages despite the author promising an epilogue: ah fair enough, hope everything's okay, I'll hit "subscribe" just in case bc i loved what they wrote so i'll comment that i liked it
scrolling absently up through the other 5+ comments and abruptly stumbling on a breathtakingly bad faith criticism of -problematic- elements that weren't even present in the fic:
Tumblr media
#id in alt text#linden's originals#seriously y'all never comment ur negative analyses of an author's thematic choices#especially if they're all stuff that's clearly tagged & in the content summary?? this is free entertainment & fully informed consumption#even if u have something to criticize about their word choice or sth - like if the author uses an outdated term or sth#& u genuinely have reason to think they'll appreciate being informed of their mistake. like. you still also tell them the stuff u liked.#u don't leave a comment just to tell an author whose personal stories (stories they chose to *archive* which u may read#but which are written first and foremost for the author's enjoyment! that's what the ''archive'' part means! it's someone else's journal!)#to tell them they Messed Up!#tell them what turns of phrase u liked! tell them why ur glad u got the chance to read the work! they do not owe u a story u like!#and leaving a negative comment (even a well-intentioned one) can wreck an artist's motivation to continue creating a work#(i know if i got a comment like this - however well-intentioned - i'd probably have deleted the entire work & also cried#not bc it was particularly unkind it's just. unsolicited yk? & criticism of something so intensely personal. art created by & for you.)#like. a lot of fic is written by neurodivergents too. it's more relevant than the average situation to remember that an author might be#''disproportionately'' harmed by negative feedback. RSD; emotional dysregulation; stuff that makes emotions so much stronger#& more capable of lasting harm#anyway. i guess this is a#vent post#i know ''flames'' were a common issue in fandom before my time but i get the feeling a lot of that was bc#online fandom had a much higher proportion of teenagers shaping the culture. as we get older i think we get a better sense of ourselves#& better at understanding & respecting each other's boundaries. & rights#kids in fandom learn from adults just like everywhere else. be kind is i guess what i'm saying#never cause more harm than you need to. not when you can just walk away and leave no one the worse. just - be kind#and for the love of tillie mayard don't tell people what u think is Problematic about their literal fanfics#even if ur right & not fantastically misreading something to the point of seeming intentional. like. just don't#anyway. this has been#linden in the tags

ANYWAY, a teenage girl saying that she was not in love with the boys she dated/had a crush on doesn’t automatically equate to c*mphet, because lots of teenagers don’t Fall In Love™ in their youth because THEY ARE TEENAGERS.

Ghostbusters Frozen Empire spoilers ahead
I've seen some criticism over Phoebe's actions in Frozen Empire, more specifically over the point when she separates her spirit from her body, calling it "a dumb decision", that "she's smarter than that", that it's "out of character for her", and just like.
First of all, remember she's 15??? She's a teenager??
But also I want to argue that it does make sense for her character, especially after everything that happened in Frozen Empire leading up to that moment.
Before we talk about Frozen Empire, we have to remember her story arc from Afterlife.
In Afterlife, Phoebe is uprooted from where they were previously living, and we know she has trouble making friends. Trevor tells her to tell him some of the jokes she's been practicing, her mom tells her to "not be herself" (jokingly/affectionately, but it's still said), and we know that Phoebe struggles to make friends. She struggles to connect with people.
Then she finds out her grandfather was a scientist, like her. He was a Ghostbuster, something that she connects to. She compares herself to Egon and is upset when she finds out her mom didn't tell her that her grandfather was a scientist like her. Then, most importantly here, her mom says that Phoebe "found herself" at the farm.
During Afterlife, Phoebe's story is about finding herself and connecting to who her grandfather was, a scientist, a Ghostbuster.
Flashforward to Frozen Empire.
Now they're in New York, and from what we see even though it's been 3 years since the events of Afterlife, it doesn't seem like Phoebe has really made any new friends in New York, she's still friends with Podcast, but he still lives in Summerville and is only there for the summer. She has her family, but she doesn't have any friends there. Her focus seems to be on being a Ghostbuster because that's where she found herself, that's what she wants to do.
And then it's being taken away from her.
She's suddenly told that she can't be a Ghostbuster because she's too young, and all the while the rest of her family is continuing to go out on busts and leaving her behind. There's things going on, and she's told she can't help, which just throws the fact that the thing she loves, the thing she wants to do, has been taken away from her.
And then, while upset from this, she makes a friend, Melody. It's someone she can talk to, that she seems to enjoy being around. She doesn't know that Melody has an agenda, that Melody is going to use her (not hating on Melody, that's just literally what happens). To her, Melody is a friend and someone she can talk to that distracts her from how another part of her life has been taken away.
Now I don't know if anything has been confirmed, but Phoebe comes off as neurodivergent (honestly I would not be surprised if she was intentionally written that way). One thing when you're neurodivergent and struggle to make friends is like, when someone acts like they want to be around you, to be your friend, you might not catch any signs that something's up.
So with that in mind, remember that Phoebe had no reason to suspect anything was going on with Melody. Before separating her soul from her body, Phoebe just thought she was finding a way to exist on the same plane as her friend. It was a way to just be with her friend for just a couple of minutes. Remember, it was just for two minutes.
So, during a time when Phoebe had something important to her taken away, a part of her identity taken away, she made a connection with someone she trusted and believed to be her friend. Of course she'd trust her, of course she'd try to essentially hang out with her friend for just a couple minutes.
She didn't know what was going to happen next.

Would you be open to elaborating more on your statement “#Admittedly I fundamentally don’t believe that many forms of ADHD and many of the tumblr-acceptable forms of autism are materially distinct”? I haven’t heard someone else voice this sentiment, but I think I have similar feelings to you around this topic and I am curious how others have come to this conclusion as well.
Sure.
When I was eight years old, I was diagnosed with ADD—Attention Deficit Disorder. This is considered a related but separate and distinct thing from ADHD.
When I was a teenager, a new DSM came out. ADD was no longer considered a distinct thing. My diagnosis changed to ADHD-I: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Inattentive Type.
My brain didn’t change, but the professional perception of what was up with it did.
Is ADD materially different from ADHD? Can you have ADHD without hyperactivity? That used to be no, now it’s yes; answer the first question, that used to be yes, now it’s no.
I see very similar things between ADHD and autism. Lots of people do. Traits like the ability to fixate on an interest to the physical inability to pay attention to anything else; infodumping past the point other people lose interest; penchant for physical clumsiness and poor coordination; emotional dysregulation; proclivity to sensory overload; anxiety over not emoting correctly… they’re ADHD things and autism things. Is bouncing my leg an autism stim or an expression of ADHD hyperactivity? Or is it just fidgeting like people do sometimes? I dunno. Are they in fact materially different things?
Similar to ADD, Asperger’s Syndrome is no longer a thing. It’s subsumed under Autism Spectrum Disorder now. Is “high functioning” autism the same material thing as “low functioning” autism? Is “high functioning” autism the same thing as “ADD”? Idk. In some people I think it is.
Especially in mental disorders and neurodivergences, diagnoses aren't physical, material things. They're names given to commonly occurring collections of traits or symptoms. There's no virus that causes ADHD, no bacteria that can be isolated that causes autism. COVID is caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2; strep throat is caused by Streptococcus bacteria. They have symptoms, but they are primarily defined by their root cause. ADHD, autism, and plenty of other Brain Things do have neurochemical correlates - that is, there is an aspect of physical reality to them, you brain is wired a certain way - but it's not like ADHD is caused by the ADHD Virus and Autism is caused by the Autism Germ. They're names given to observable sets of traits, in order to figure out ways of treating and managing them. And I think drawing a sharp distinction between them - THIS is ADHD, and THIS is autism, and they're NOT THE SAME! - is pointless.
I like to use the xkcd color survey as an analogy for... well, a lot of things about the human experience and the way we classify it.
If you weren't around in 2010, xkcd's Randall Munroe asked the internet to help crowdsource the true names and boundaries of colors. You could sit down at the screen, colors would appear before you by random hexcode, and you typed in the name you'd call it. You could do this as many times with as many colors as you wanted. This was the resultant chart he made:
Tumblr media
This shows the entirety of fully saturated RGB color space. Each pixel is a different hex code. Each pixel represents a different individual's brain.
I usually use this chart to talk about sexual orientation/queer identities. But it's also a great analogy for the categorizations being diagnoses.
If "Blue" is, say, ADHD, and "Purple" is Autism, you can image how one person's "purple" experience may be wildly different from another "purple" experience but very similar to a "blue" experience. But they're labelled differently, for various reasons. Maybe the doctor had recently seen a lot of blues, and this one seems more purple in comparison. Maybe the doctor has a really specific idea of what blue is, so this can't be blue, it must be purple. Which is not to say some blues aren't wildly different from some purples, that some purples match the platonic ideal image in your mind of what "purple" is more than others. There's still clearly a lot of overlap in blue and purple experiences.
That's kind of how I think about ADHD and autism.
And who knows, maybe I think this just because I am actually autistic. I've asked myself that, wondered that before. Am I? Or are these just ADHD symptoms that overlap? And honestly at this point the answer isn't super important to me. I know how my brain works and how to deal with it when it gets bad, and there's very little that pursuing a diagnosis would do for me at the point I'm at in my life.
But when I say that I suspect the two aren't as materially distinct as they're sometimes made out to be, this is what I mean.

I don't care how many times I have to keep putting this message out there, I'm going to keep doing it: engaging in respectability politics will never save you.
Transphobes do not hate us because of neopronouns or because of neurogenders, they don't hate us because of non-dysphoric trans people, and they do not hate us because of teenagers creating new gender labels.
They simply hate us.
You will never genuinely gain the respect of a transphobe by using traditional pronouns, identifying with a binary gender, by medically transitioning, or by vilifying the people within our community who do not do those things.
Transphobes will never genuinely respect us - any of us - because they hate us. You will never be one of the "good ones" because in their minds we are all participating in deviant and/or sinful behaviors.
The reason that transphobes so often target young trans people, nonbinary trans people, and/or neurodivergent trans people is that they find us to be the easiest targets. Being multiply marginalized means that we are easier to demean and dehumanize, especially when even other people within our own communities reject us.
Your liberation will never come through mocking 14 year olds who use gemself pronouns or through harassing someone for identifying as autigender, and every time you do this you only help the transphobes who are hurting us all.

For the ask game: common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about?
[ask meme]
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
I...actually get frustrated with the infantilization and/or demonization of characters that could be read as autistic, because it happens so often and there's such a lack of self-awareness when people do it. If one person headcanons it, a bunch of other people pile on, and before you know it, your character is being treated like someone else entirely - and unfairly so.
Let's take the most obvious example and the reason I don't engage with fandom much:
Tumblr media
I am so tired of what fandom at large has done to Emmet since 2010. He's been infantilized since day one, often being portrayed as needing Ingo to take care of him or otherwise be his brother's keeper. He's also been turned into a violent, 'unhinged' stereotype since day one. Neither of these things are new. They've been happening since the release of the games. Neither of them have any basis in his canon characterization - a competent railroad employee who's a goofball but simultaneously responsible and always puts safety first.
I was hoping people had moved past that the way they moved past Blankshipping (though some people still do this, too, EW), but it seems like they haven't. Emmet is still either a helpless child or a serial killer waiting to happen to so many of these people, and as someone who actually felt so validated and seen the first time she discovered Ingo and Emmet, it hurts so deeply.
In real life, I'm also infantilized. I turn 35 this year and have a Master’s degree and work a big grown-up adult archivist job and live outside my parents' house, but because I'm neurodivergent and short, I'm frequently assumed to be and am treated like a teenager way more often than you'd reasonably expect. It's incredibly frustrating to constantly be treated like an innocent child because you don't meet neurotypical benchmarks of adulthood the way they want you to or because of the way you carry yourself or enjoy things. But at the same time, people shy away from me because I'm "too intense" about the things I care about.
Sound familiar?
Fandom was, when I was a younger girl, a place where neurodivergent people (especially autistic and ADHD people) were safe from the real world not understanding, accommodating, and accepting us. We generally kept things on the down-low, since it was another thing we'd be bullied for if people knew, but for us, it was a safe space. Then people realized fandom could be commodified, and once capitalism got a hold on fandom and made it mainstream, all our bullies were suddenly in our little space again, and...well, you probably know the rest. (Yeah, they brought their ableism with them.)
I'm not saying old fandom didn't have its problems. It had a LOT of problems. But it was, altogether, a safer space for neurodivergent people to find community and themselves than it is now. Now it feels more about producing things and moving on to the next big thing to produce more "content" to keep engagement instead of an actual community of nerdy, passionate people getting excited about each other's fanworks and chatting about their favorite things together.
And that reflects in how people treat autistic and autistic-coded characters now. Emmet is one example of many - look at Papyrus, or Entrapta, or numerous others.
This trend really, really fucking hurts, and I cannot stand how willingly fandom spaces just go along with it without thinking critically about it.

GENSHIN WITH A TEEN!CREATOR WHO IS LIKE LUZ NOCEDA
So yeah, just some brainrot I though while (crying) doing homework
TW: gn reader, teenager reader (ALL IS PLATONIC), some mentions of bullying but not that many, maybe sm angst and a lot of spoilers abut the archons missions
ALSO VERY BAD ENGLISH, IT'S NOT MY FIRST LANGUAGE PLEASE DON'T MIND IT (also I have this feeling that this is gonna be long so maybe it would be part two)
Tumblr media
So yeah, you are just some neurodivergent kid, trying to vibe with your especial interest but classmates are being mean like they got pay for it and not very friendly stuff
your dearest tutor (I didn't know If put mother or anything else) decided without telling you first to put you on a weird camp were IN TEXTUAL WORDS: "they will make you think inside the box"
And yeah you weren't doing that shit
Luckly you! some weird... random- CREATURE stole your (insert product of your special interest here) and ran away to a very old wood house you never notice before.
... SCREW THAT YOU ARE GETTING BACK THAT THING
You enter no the house without actually looking back, not minding at all the fact after you cross the old door you ended up in a wild life forest.
When you tried to get back to your city you found out that the door was gone, all the freaking house was gone.
"Don't panic, don't panic, QUENOCUNDAELPANICO, maybe the house had some uhhh… halogenous spores that are making me hallucinate hehe" you said before shouting your lungs out when you bite your arm and hurt... and bleed gold.
You weren't hallucinating, you were in a real place and your blood looked like liquid stars..
"carajo"
Trying to find someone to help you probably run all over the forest you went trap, finding that the animals really liked you and the flowers pratically flourished faster when you were around.
"Heh, this place is kinda nice, maybe I could stay a little longer"
It was night you rested your head over a wild boar who very cheerfully offered to be your pillow, some bunnies cuddle you and a little mockingbird started to sing for you to sleep.
You actually can get used to this, felling so warm, so loved by an unkown earth who seems to let you know all it's secrets...
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEIR PRESENCE IS GONE?!"
"IT'S GONE"
All Teyvat (except for you) heard the cries of the Traveler and their rare pixie
After finding out the secrets of the Hydro archon of Fontaine, they decided to get a little walk before doing missions all over again.
BUT when Aether was resting their head and body on a tree, he felt the divine power and the warm scaping of his body like an armour being destroyed after a very rough battle.
You were gone, you abandoned him.
He almost fall into the sea, if It wasn't for Paimon that grab thim of the braid with all her little strength.
After that he just started to panic and cry all loud and to attack everyting that moves a bit to close to him.
(Paimon had to kick him into his face to stop him but shhhhh)
When he managed to splain himself, It was the turn of Paimon to get panic, only after Ather giving her a berry he had on his pocket she calmed down.
"...So what we do now, Do we tell the others?" the Traveler asked
"Paimon doesn't know, maybe we could them the Archons to-"
"Paimon, look at my eyes and repeat that again"
"Maybe we could..." she stayed quite a long time "yeah maybe they won't fully help us"
"What If we tell Albedo? He knows a lot of things about the Creator!"
"You're right! But we still have some missions to do here..."
"We do them as soon we can, also, we can wrote a letter to him so he would have time to investigate this more" he decided.
"Paimon needs to know now, let's do the request now!"
The flying girl disapeard and the yound boy stayed with a frown.
He could fell Teyvat, It felt different than before, even before he got trapped by the unkown godness.
It feel completed.
Aether just hope that nothing bad happends to all the persons he had the chance to meet. He hoped nothing bad happend to you.
I WOULD DEFINETLY NEED MORE FOR FINISH THIS

In Witches before Wizards, it hurt Luz SO badly for Eda to laugh off the idea of Luz being a chosen one. Then in Covention she angsted over being a real witch. And by Enchanting Grom Fright, Luz felt partially motivated to prove she wasn’t weak by challenging Grometheus, only to fail! And then Separate Tides, Luz feels she was a burden for getting Eda captured and losing her magic, and tries to prove she’s not that, only to need Eda’s help in the end.
Tumblr media
...She really must’ve thought that all of these incidents, especially Grom, just certified to Eda that Luz really was just some weak kid; Confirming another worst fear. Luz just has. SUCH a complex about being a burden. About being unwanted. A nuisance. And so she has to be useful, Luz has to bottle up her problems so she’s as low-maintenance as possible. Luz has to be cool and someone people actually like and would want to hang out with! She has to be worthwhile to others, and this entire scene... Where Luz realizes Eda is trying to send her and King away, her RSD leaps at the culmination of all these little storylines from past episodes that stemmed from this fundamental self-doubt!
Tumblr media
So I love this show for having Eda reiterate that it’s not because she thinks Luz is weak, because even the strongest kid in the world shouldn’t handle this, especially not by themselves, and Eda should know because she experienced that herself. Eda doesn’t think of Luz as weak or a burden, Luz and King are EVERYTHING to her and if it comes down to it, they may as well be all that matters to Eda. It’s like before at Grom, when Eda didn’t lord it over Luz that she couldn’t handle Grometheus; Instead she reassuringly tells her it’s okay with zero judgment, and moves to help before Amity barges in with her gayness.
Tumblr media
I feel so bad for Luz because it feels like she’s constantly repenting and apologizing for who she is, for her ‘shortcomings’ as a person and it’s such a good parallel/foil to Philip, who would’ve had a Puritan upbringing that hammered in such a toxic mindset. But Luz at least grew and chose compassion as a coping mechanism, even if she’s gone too far with it at her own detriment. Luz just wants people who would accept her, from who she is to what she has to offer, to believe in her; And after Camila sent her away to summer camp, for her own good, Luz managed to find Eda... The one person she felt she could count on not to do that, because Eda DID let her stay, instead of sending Luz back!
Tumblr media
So this was the ultimate betrayal to her. No shade to Camila nor Eda, they both had their reasons and are both struggling... But again I love this show reiterating that adults are not perfect. That they try but they’ll make mistakes and they don’t always know what’s going on. But they do care and they don’t mean for it to come across that way (which reminds me of being neurodivergent, another aspect of this show). And it really is just about communicating and explaining things to your loved ones, instead of keeping them in the dark. Kids just want respect, especially growing teenagers, so getting that is such a huge coming-of-age hallmark. As is the realization on Luz’s end that Eda doesn’t have it all figured out, as cool as she thinks her mom is; But Luz still wants to be told that and treated as a person that people will talk to and regard seriously.
Tumblr media
...Ah well. As heartbreaking as that fight between student and mentor was, it was also kind of a wonderful show of Luz’s strength and growth, how much her magical prowess has developed to keep up with Eda for even a bit; Which, given how Eda said Luz would have to earn her Palisman by showing her capabilities as a witch...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, that pairs very nicely with Eda realizing it’s finally time for Luz to carve her own, and Luz agrees as she decides her future.

ITS LITERALLY NOT!!!! GET OUT OF MY FUCKIN INBOX!!! YOU ARE LITERALLY DESCRIBING WHAT PEOPLE ARE CURRENTLY DOING TO IT!! YOU’RE OBSESSED WITH DRAMA!
DONT act like you gaf about me or my safety, I have no fucking clue why you think any of what you have been doing is remotely okay, and don’t link me the damn “callout” because I read it, and that sorry excuse of a document is littered with screenshots with blocked out urls, nonprovable information, blatant ableism towards systems, and self incriminating messages from ops side that anyone with two eyes and a brain could tell is antagonistic and done with intent to harass until it spiraled as a “gotcha.” Anything on that callout that is in truth and not right of it to say was said by Hau when it was a TEENAGER that was either among its peers in that same age range which is: surprise! Not problematic! Or in the middle of it having a mental breakdown for personal reasons that I know but will not disclose for the sake of its safety. Also said callout literally badly edited its skin white in a selfie to genuinely accuse them of racefaking so I don’t trust anyone who believes in anything from the callout.
You are obsessed with making a spectacle out of a black disabled system who has done nothing illegal, predatory, or abusive and just wants to live its life! for some twisted sense of clout!
What I find interesting is that you have not only sent the feds and the police to the home of a BIPOC victim of police brutality on the pretense of false information for your vendetta, and we all know that pigs are chomping at the bit to be heinous towards any “”””suspicious individual,”””” (read: poc and neurodivergents,) but you have now successfully drawn their attention away from a literal fucking documented pedophile/zoophile that associated individuals with hau were initially trying to bring to justice. So thanks! Now Ezra Toonimal can get away with abusing more irl children and animals because of you, because you did your job as a junior fed!!!! Did you get your internet points? Are you happy? Oh, need I remind you that your group posted its location of work and threatened to harass them in person with this knowledge?
Yeah. Fuck off and eat shit.
