I like having a chill/shenanigans au because it’s where the fun vibes go.

There are chatrooms for the various Covens and Coven Heads while those in the same age group/year have their own chatroom.

Then you have instances where Steve once started a snowball fight on the Knee to boast morale.

The Coven Heads talk about random bs and get nothing done while the sane ones just rolls their eyes in “why are we here?” kind of way.

Two people closest with Lilith tried to get her palisman to swear, but the jokes on them they can already swear because Lilith keeps swearing in her head. Unknowingly saying “fuck” every time.

Steve writes his reports in a glitter pen because he wants to have fun. Much to Lilith’s annoyance. He dots his eyes with hearts and leaves emoticons at the end. :)

Darius comes in complaining about what either Snapdragon did or what stupid design Alador made. Other times it the latest news/gossip.

Lilith’s office door has seen better days. It’s either Darius and Eber strutting in to talk; Steve casual walking in to show a meme that she doesn’t get; or it’s Kikimora to bother her. Lilith just wants to work in peace.

The Elder Coven Heads have conversations on what to get on the pizza and Osran wants anchovies like the boss he is. Everyone else calls him a monster for such a suggestion.

Osran writes in cryptic text that no one asides from Terra, Hettie, Vitimir and a few of his older students.

Hooty attempts to write to Lilith every week because he wants to make sure she’s ok.

Steve accidentally meeting Lilith’s Palisman as they fly through the air. He thought they were the most adorable thing.

Then offset it with angst/realistic au.

Like Lilith being hesitant to consider Steve or Darius a friend after she ruined the last close bond in her life.

Steve having moments of guilt where he thinks he failed his fellow Coven Scouts and wonders if he’s on the wrong team.

Darius thinking he’s fine and happy as he finally prove the bitch Odalia wrong, but he doesn’t. Like his mother always said, “Do it for yourself, not for others. If you do it for others, then you will always feel empty.”

Just thinking about how all the adults try to feel the need to prove themselves or justify themselves because that’s what society’s taught them ever since Belos came to power.

The sad thought of in between the Previous Golden Guard and Hunter, Belos would have moment where he’d take his anger out on Lilith because he equally enrages him.

The small worry of the Clawthorne Palismans during Agony of a Witch as Lilith’s Palisman wonder if they’re going to far.

Just the way my brain seesaws.

Random TOH AU where Darius, upon his mentor’s death, discovered the secret of the Golden Guards (aka, grimwalkers), goes a little crazy and runs away with baby Hunter. Eberwolf is skeptical but agrees to help him, and the two of them enlist Raine as well. They almost get away with it, but Lilith catches them. In the spur of the moment, she panics and shoves them out a hidden escape route. The only place they can think of to go is Eda’s house. Therefore, Elder Hexside Gang (and Eberwolf) raises Hunter together.

Lilith: Oh my Titan, I can’t believe I just did that.

Raine: Why did you just do that?

Lilith: I don’t know!! Why did I just do that?!

Darius, who’s clutching the next generation of baby grimwalker to his chest: Could we do a little less talking and a little more running, perhaps?!

Lilith: I’m having a crisis of conscience here!

Eberwolf: *shoving her from behind* Do it on the move!

One escape sequence later…

Hooty, sticking his head through Eda’s window: Edaaaaaaa!!!!

Eda: *sleepy owl grumbles*

Hooty: Edaaaaaa! You have visitorsssssss!

Eda: I really don’t give a-

Hooty: Hey, isn’t one of them your ex? And they have a baby!

Eda, shooting out of bed: They have a wHA-

“There are tales spoken in hushed whispers, beyond the ears of the Emperor’s Coven, about a tribe of witches who were bonded to spirits—mystical beings born of wild magic. An ancient race they were, said to have been the first children of the Titan when it fell. Taking the form of beasts, they had the ability to heal and speak to the Isles, calling upon its natural power. These gifts they shared with the witches, who took their name in gratitude, and together, they and their descendants settled near the Heart, wishing to live in harmony with the wilderness and their ancestor.’

“Centuries passed, and eventually their neighbors came to wield magic of their own, sparking a new age of discovery. In this time, the original covens were formed, each following one of nine disciplines, yet they all recognized the ancient tribe as the first masters. On their part, the tribe stayed distant from the others, though anyone willing to learn from them was welcomed among their ranks.’

“Everything changed, however, with the coming of the Savage Ages. Chaos reigned, and conflict and unrest divided the land until a new figure arose: a mysterious witch who called himself Belos. Claiming to be an emissary of the Titan, he vowed to bring unity to the Isles, insisting that unbound magic only brought disorder. One by one, the nine covens bowed to his teachings, but the ancient tribe resisted—they saw him for what he truly was, and would not give up the old ways. Their defiance led to their destruction, as Belos and his coven hunted them all down until, at last, only their chief remained. Accused of high treason, he was sentenced to petrification, frozen in stone as Belos took the title of Emperor over the Boiling Isles.’

“It has been thirty years since the tribe’s extinction, and the spirits have fallen silent, fading into myth and legend. But nothing lasts forever, for a new awakening has begun. The old ways will be found once more, and in time, the Isles will see the return of…’

To those who have followed me already on both this blog and my main account, I want to thank you all so much for your patience and continued interest as this has taken shape. To those who are here for the first time, my name is Drekasál, and I’m proud to announce the official master post and FAQ for the Wildborn AU!

I intend to update this as often as possible as I continue to work on new pieces—both artistic and literary—as well as answer whatever questions that may come up in the future, but for now, I figure the basics would be good to start with, first and foremost being…

What is the Wildborn AU?

The Wildborn AU is my personal contribution to The Owl House fandom, centering around my witchsona Tristan O’Connor who is its main protagonist. Taking place after the events of Season 1, it explores my own take on the history of magic on the Isles by introducing the Wildborn—a tribe of ancient witches bonded to powerful spirits of the same name.

Lore

Originating from days long before the Savage Ages, the Wildborn came into being when the Titan first fell, and hold great power over the Isles’ primordial forces. Reflecting their wild natures, their spiritual forms take on the form of beasts, both mythical and mundane.

In the past, the spirits had a rocky relationship with the early witches, whom had not evolved bile-sacs yet and thus relied on harnessing the wild magic of the Isles through glyphs. At some point in history, however, a young witch from an ancient tribe formed a Bond with the Thunderbird, the first of the spirits and their guardian. After that, the two groups grew closer, with more witches and spirits forming Bonds with each other, eventually becoming the Wildborn tribe. Harnessing the power of their spirits, the Wildborn witches did not need to rely on glyphs, and those pairs who developed strong Bonds could Merge to become a new being, a reflection of the spirit’s beast form combined with the traits of their witch.

Regarded as the first masters of wild magic, the tribe was well-respected for centuries, even as other witches eventually evolved bile-sacs and formed the original covens. Tragically, that came to an end during the Savage Ages, which saw the appearance of Emperor Belos and his enforcement of the coven system. Seeing the Wildborn as untamable and a threat to his teachings, he ordered for their persecution, hunting them down and forbidding any mention of them, until at last it seemed they had been wiped out. But the tales still persist, and the spirits live on, waiting for the day their Guardian will return, and restore balance to the Isles...

Inspiration

This AU draws inspiration from both Wolfwalkers and Brother Bear, both of which are beautifully animated movies, but the latter especially I consider a criminally underrated Disney movie. Wolfwalkers mainly inspired the Hellhounds, the secondary group of characters in the AU, but both movies played a part in developing the Wildborn themselves, particularly their powers and portrayal as animal spirits.

The Characters

Tristan O’Connor - Protagonist in the Wildborn AU. He is a faun witchling enrolled in the Beast Keeping tract at Hexside School of Magic and Demonics. Shy yet kind, he has a deep love of nature and the wild, though it is a passion he has been forced to curb up until now due to the rigidity of the coven system. It is revealed later on that he is Bonded to the spirit Anam, making him the first living Wildborn to exist in thirty years.

Aedh - Deuteragonist in the Wildborn AU. He is a member of the Hellhounds, a pack of wolf-like fire elementals who live hidden beneath the Titan’s skull. Daring and adventurous, he doesn’t have the same bitterness against witches like his elders, having not been born during the time of their persecution, and he welcomes Tristan warmly as a friend. He proves vital in helping the witchling adjust to his Wildborn powers, teaching him how to be a Hellhound when he is Merged with Anam.

Anam - Tritagonist in the Wildborn AU. He is Tristan’s Wildborn spirit, originally being the soul of a Hellhound pup born with “too little fire”. As the AU progresses, it is discovered that he is Aedh’s younger brother and littermate, thus making Tristan, through his Bond with Anam, Aedh’s spiritual brother and and a member of the pack.

Tuft - Supporting character in the Wildborn AU. He is Tristan’s pet griffin, getting his name from his tufted ears uncommon to his kind. A frequent companion of the witchling, he is fiercely loyal and protective, accompanying him on his adventures in the wilderness.

Eleri O’Connor - Supporting character in the Wildborn AU. She is Tristan’s mother and a member of Bard Coven, stated to be well-respected as a master of her craft. She is shown to be a caring and loving parent, though she constantly worries about her son, partly due to her frequent absence in the household, as well as her fear that Tristan might never fit in and suffer for it. Although she is Adar’s daughter, she is not Wildborn herself, having never Bonded with a spirit.

Adar O’Connor/The Thunderbird - Supporting character(s) in the Wildborn AU. Adar O’Connor is Eleri’s father and Tristan’s grandfather, and was the last great chief Bonded to the Thunderbird before the extinction of the Wildborn tribe. When Adar was sentenced to petrification, the Thunderbird permanently Merged with him to save his life, and they act as guides to Tristan and his allies as the AU unfolds.

Are the main cast of The Owl House involved?

Yes, actually! Their roles are still being developed, but I do intend for Luz to play an important part in this AU, given her rediscovery and usage of glyph magic, and she becomes one of Tristan’s close allies. Eleri herself has had interactions/relationships with Eda and Lilith in the past, when they were attending Hexside together as teenagers.

Is this an open AU? (Can anyone participate/make connections?)

I definitely wish for the Wildborn AU to be as open-ended as possible, as I love making potential connections with the stories/characters of other creators in the fandom. Fair warning, however, that this AU is still in constant development, so things are liable to change! Don’t be afraid to reach out if you have ideas you want to run by me!

Thank you. I wasn’t expecting an ask.

Well for starters, I think the Emperor’s Coven routinely practices hand to hand combat and weapon combat as seen with the Scouts holding weapons in Agony of a Witch when they were attacking the house. I also assume it’s because they no longer have their palismans and are required to use magic without them. So, I believe they would branch out into other forms of combat.

While Lilith may have kept her Palisman, she doesn’t mind getting involved in spars with the Coven Scouts or Scout Captains. Her preferred weapons of choice are a sword and a staff. I refuse to believe she just uses that for show, as I think she spent hours perfecting her sword technique. She likes the elegance and grace of sword fighting, but isn’t above use her slender frame and speed to maim or in some cases, kill a person.

She uses a staff in training with the Scouts and Captains as that is the primary training tool within the Coven. It reminds her of using the broom back when she was a teenager, but quickly squishes it as she sweeps a Scout off their feet. She uses the staff with just as much precision as she does with the sword or her usual staff. It’s almost second nature. Sometimes there’s a faint blue glow as she taps a bit of her magic to blip around.

Another weapon that she prefers are throwing knives, as she uses them to pin down or incapacitate opponents. She isn’t as well versed as Steve is, but she is decent and precise enough to use them. I like to think she applied those skills to when she uses ice glyphs at Jean-Luc. Same principle.

I feel like after joining the Emperor’s Coven, she had some doubts of her own ability, and especially after what happened to Eda. When she found that combat practice involved weapons and hand to hand combat, she began to focus on that as well as she liked to have a versed enough skill set. Captain and Sergeants found her still practicing on her free time.

Another headcanon that I have is that Coven Scouts and Scout Captains have a focus point when it comes to combat. Lilith and Hunter are no different, as they feel alive when it comes to combat as they do when it comes to reading up on books. There’s something oddly peaceful about it. Though the superiors are definitely concerned for Hunter as she shouldn’t be developing the focus point at this age. Especially when it comes to more intense missions. It’s as though you don’t hear or see anything outside of your target, and your body reflexively moves with the actions.

I do believe Lilith has the capability to kill a target if asked, as she has been willing to give King a sacrifice. I don’t think she would kill in front of the kids because of what she nearly did to Luz in order to achieve her goal, and so she doesn’t want to traumatize her again. Also Eda would kill her if she did.

I have this AU idea of if she suggested to just kill the Coven Heads.

Eda: Lily, no!

Darius: Wait she may be onto something…

Image that lives rent free in my head #2: While Eber may leave a napkin on Lilith’s head as a blanket while she sleeps at her desk, Darius would put cucumbers on her eyes while her head is leaned back. He says it’s better than napkins and are at least more beneficial. Lilith figured out after a while of waking up to cucumbers.

Lilith: DARIUS! I SWEAR TO TITAN, STOP PUTTING CUCUMBERS ON MY EYES!

Darius, from down the hall: One of us has to deal with dreadful bags under your eyes, and we both know you hate sleeping in conventional places!

Eber: I put napkins! They keep your head warm!

Lilith:

Lilith: Thank you, Coven Head Huntsman.

This also applies to any au, and I like to think they chill. Lilith calls Eber by their last name and title, whereas with Darius she calls him by his first name. He said to become he didn’t want to be perceived as an old man. Also it’s sane friend energy.

Random Darius + Darius’ Mom Headcanons.

Darius’ Mom is a sweet elderly woman. She raised Darius by herself and with the help of Darius’ aunt.

When Darius stopped being friends with Alador, she asked him what had happened.

“She said we were friends and that we would be great, but she isn’t!” Darius exclaimed, glaring. “She isn’t interested in being friends with anyone much less him!”

“I see..” She frowned, stroking his hair.

“She said I wouldn’t make it anywhere and that it was only business.” He grumbled.

“Hmm…Sounds like a viper to me.”

“I’ll show her! I am worth it and I am a strong Witch.”

She sighed. “Darius, if you spend all your time trying to prove others your worth, you only end up feeling empty inside. Only do it for yourself.”

He blinked frowning. “But it is what I want, Mom!”

“Are you sure?”

He nods firmly. She always taught him to be determined of what he wanted.

“Okay…but be careful.”

Darius gets his anti bs energy from his mom. She knew how to smell bs from others and told him it was a powerful odour.

He realized after Odalia decided to split up their friendship.

His mom never liked Gwendolyn as she always thought she was too…happy to put it lightly. Noticed how she always had an air of favouritism with her children.

“Mrs. Deamonne.”

“Mrs. Clawthorne.”

When she heard Darius was hanging out with one of the Clawthorne girls, she met her when Darius brought his fellow classmates over.

His mom made the best snacks and lunch. Always much to go around.

“That’s Lilith.” He pointed to the girl with glasses, who was reading.

“That’s Raine.” Pointing to another child with glasses talking with the orange haired girl.

“Next to them is Eda, Lilith’s younger sister.” He introduced the orange haired girl.

“That there is Perry, he wants to be a news anchor.” The boy who sat on the other side of Lilith.

“It so nice to see your friends.” She chuckled.

She already knew of Alador and Odalia.

After he stopped being friends with them, he stopped being friends with a lot of people and became isolated. Much to her worry.

He spent his lunches alone at tables and hiding where no one could find him. Sometimes he ran into Lilith or Perry and sit quietly beside them.

One of the other people who was influential in his life was his Aunt, who was half deaf yet that never stopped her from learning languages and being in a work she loves.

She always told Darius if he had bully or someone mean, he should take a ruler and kick there ass.

His mother didn’t agree.

Darius’ Mom: Stop teaching him to use violence to solve his problems.

Darius’ Aunt:

Darius Aunt: Use violence to solve your problems.

Darius: Okay, Auntie.

Darius’ Mom: NO!

Darius’ Aunt: YES!!

Darius: :D

Darius uses violence only when necessary. When a person is a bitch.

Darius got better at telling when people were genuine with him or when they were fakers.

Which is why he’s not friends with Adrian because he’s a fake ass bitch.

If there was a scene, Darius would teach Gus how to tell when someone is genuinely interested in him.

Darius: Sometimes it’s the way they carry themselves, the way they walk, the way they talk, and the way they react.

Gus, writing: What kind of tells?

Darius: The way would compliment you. Tell you you’re cool and awesome. Find ways to talk to you more and make you continue. When in reality, they could give less of a fuck.

Perry: Darius!

Darius: That’s when you know…They’re a fake ass bitch.

Perry: DARIUS!!

Gus: Then how do you tell if they’re genuine?

Darius: If they are quiet, shy—but not too shy or else they want something. Giddy or happy when they talk about their favourite topics.

Gus: I see… What else?

Darius: If they’re honest with their assholeness and they openly wish to not give a fuck, but at the end of the day, they have heart of gold. Like the Owl Lady and Lilith.

Perry: Get out!

One of his dreams when he was younger was to get his mom the bed she always wanted that is good for her back.

When he became Abomination Coven Head, he bought her that bed and a condo that she could live in.

She was moved to tears and hugged him so tightly.

“Are you happy?” He asked, hugging her. “Did I make you happy?”

“Oh Darius,” she said, tears rolling down her cheeks, “you always make me happy. You are the light of my life.”

“You’re welcome, Mother.” He chuckled, tears seeping out of his eyes.

When his Mentor died and he became more closed off. He began pouring time into his studies and later, his work until he became the Abomination Coven Head.

When was Coven Head, he slowly began to make friends with the recent Coven Head, Eberwolf the Huntsman. They became friends after they found the other Coven Heads to be too much of stiffs or fakes.

They do imitation voices while getting coffee and have also blocked the annoying ones on social media. It’s Adrian.

He noticed Lilith was one too, and slowly decided to make friends with her again. He sadly noticed her change even if some things were the same like her workaholic nature.

Though he did notice how nervous she seemed sometimes, but he understood if it was because of work.

He didn’t feel confident in stepping inside her…his former Mentor’s office, but she was nice enough to go elsewhere.

He doesn’t like being there if she isn’t or if Eber doesn’t tag along. It’s too familiar.

Sometimes he takes her to his Mom’s place because he said she hasn’t seen her in a long time.

“Darius, really, I don’t have time for this.” Lilith grumbled, as they stood by the door.

“Come now, she likes you.” He said, grinning. “Besides, I always bring my friends over for dinner. Ebdr’s done it and so has Perry. She won’t mind.”

“Really I don’t want to—.” She attempted to protest, but the door opened.

“Oh, Darius, you’re here!” His mother beamed, smiling brightly. She glanced at Lilith. “Oh you brought one of your Clawthorne friends by!”

“Hello, Mrs. Deamonne.” She greeted.

“Are you you staying for dinner?” She asked.

“No, no, I don’t wish to in—.”

“Nonsense, nonsense,” she took her hand and walked inside. “You sure look hungry. Honestly, I would think for being in the most prestigious Coven, you would be healthy.”

“I’m fine, I can assure you.” The Coven Head reassured.

“Keep lying to yourself, Lilith.” Darius chuckled, as he followed. “My Mom doesn’t like liar.”

“Indeed I don’t,” she nods, as she pulled out a chair. “If you are as polite as I remember, you will park yourself right there and eat with us.”

“Y-yes, Ma’am.” Lilith nods, as she immediately does as she’s told.

“‘Ma’am’? What am I a hundred? I’m only seventy, young lady.”

“I’m sorry, M-Ms. Deamonne.”

She chuckled before walking away.

Another friendship he reconnected with, was with Perry as he was there during art installation at his exhibit. They talked after the interview.

He later on met Gus and found out about his trouble making friends and gave him tips as seen in that scenario.

Gus took those tips to heart and thanked him.

Darius also in passing told Lilith to quit being fake. She just told him it was her duty and told her she was just like Odalia.

It took them a while to cool off before they talked again.

He was both amused and worried when Lilith betrayed the Emperor.

He happily welcomed Raine and was somewhat surprised that they were leading a rebellion against Belos, but then again they dated Eda. So it was a given.

Tried to keep the plan straight while Raine wanted to be more forward in taking down the Emperor. They also pitched several other team names. Like DER with one less E.

He hated all of them while Eber cheered.
