putting my prediction on record now that the coming decade is going to see the rise of viral-marketed fancy at-home water filtration systems, driving and driven by a drastic reduction in the quality of U.S. tap water (given that we are in a 'replacement era' where our current infrastructure is reaching the end of its lifespan--but isn't being replaced). also guessing that by the 2030s access to drinkable tap water will be a mainstream class issue, with low-income & unstably housed people increasingly forced to rely on expensive bottled water when they can't afford the up-front cost of at-home filtration--and with this being portrayed in media as a "moral failing" and short-sighted "choice," rather than a basic failure of our political & economic systems. really hope i'm just being alarmist, but plenty of this already happens in other countries, and the U.S. is in a state of decline, so. here's praying this post ages into irrelevance. timestamped April 2023

In other news, this week a French publisher on his way to the London Book Fair was arrested by British counter-terrorist police to be questioned about his participation in protests in France.
A French publisher has been arrested on terror charges in London after being questioned by UK police about participating in anti-government protests in France.
Moret arrived at St Pancras [...] with his colleague Stella Magliani-Belkacem, the editorial director at the Paris-based publishing house, to be confronted by the two officers. [...] He was questioned for six hours and then arrested for alleged obstruction in refusing to disclose the passcodes to his phone and computer. [...] He was transferred to a police station in Islington, north London, where he remained in custody on Tuesday. He was later released on bail.
Éditions la Fabrique is known for publishing radical left authors. Moret also represents the French science fiction novelist Alain Damasio and had arranged more than 40 appointments at the London book fair. [...]

The publishing house (here’s their latest statement in French) and the publisher’s lawyer mention that the British police asked him “Do you support Emmanuel Macron? Did you attend protests against the pension reform?” and he was also asked to name the authors with anti-government views that his employer has published. They add, “Asking the representative of a publishing house, in the framework of counter-terrorism, about the opinions of his authors, is pushing even further the logic of political censorship and repression of dissenting thought. In a context of social protests and authoritarian escalation on the part of the French government, this aspect [of the questioning] is chilling.”
Being an accomplice to thoughtcrime by publishing dissident authors gets you treated like an international terrorist now... The publisher’s lawyer suggests that French authorities asked the UK to help them get their hands on the publisher’s contacts in the radical left sphere. But on the face of it, we’ve got: Exercise your right to protest your government in France -> get arrested by counter-terrorist UK police in London. That’s literally the reason he was given for being greeted by police at the train station...

i mean this in the like... nicest way possible, but there is no way to post your writing and/or art on the internet without running the very high risk of it getting scraped, whether you post it on tumblr, pillowfort, or ao3. sites being 'anti ai' does not mean your art cannot be scraped. it is simply almost impossible to prevent, much less guarantee that. I'm not saying this to be a pessimist or to stop people from being rightfully pissed about this. it sucks. massively so! but if the idea does in fact bother you that much, you should know that moving sites won't fix the issue. ao3, as far as we know, has been scraped/is getting scraped. you can set your fics so that only logged in users can access them, but it only makes scraping one step more difficult, and by no means impossible and the otw has stated this clearly.
which, again, this sucks! i don't have a great solution either!! but tumblr is relatively honest, at least, when it tells you that it cannot prevent, only discourage it. ao3 said the same thing. any site promising you otherwise is, to the best of my knowledge, lying to you.

so i'm just thinking abt the reputation pete must have post-canon among main family bodyguards.
like as we know from pete himself, word travels fast amongst main family bodyguards and there must be a few who survived the ep 14, confrontation. obviously people would've known pete at least in passing, he's tankhun's head bodyguard that must mean something. and suddenly he's missing for a few days, rumour has it he went to the minor family's house (with the fit tankhun threw (rightfully so) surely people would've heard abt it right? right) and everyone knows what happens to bodyguards who are sent to the minor family's house. except pete returns and word spreads fast about that too. pete returned, covered in blood and injured but alive. then the family showdown happens, a lot of people die but surely a few main family bodyguards would survive. and they would hear abt it. pete left. he resigned. and they let him. which i'm sure not many bodyguards can say for themselves. rumour has it he went after vegas. and then shot a bodyguard of the main family dead for him. and that he's with vegas now.
vegas who has A Reputation, everyone knows that. so pete not only made it out of the minor family's house alive, he also managed to resign and then went to be with vegas.
and maybe they'd even see him sometime, pete coming to visit porsche or tankhun and he looks fine like he's doing well.
and like. they must be terrified of him. and like even when they get new bodyguards word would spread just as quickly. u don't fuck with pete bc pete has seen the worst of the worst of this world and not only come out alive the other end, he also willingly walked back right into it.

I just have to write this drabble/short oneshot or else I'm gonna combust but here you go!
"They said I would find you here."
Eren looked up to the source of that melodic soft voice, his bottle of beer pressed to his lips as he was about to drink some. Even in the layers of coat, beanie, and scarf, Mikasa looked so beautiful, especially with how the neon sign of the pub illuminated her face, that it made Eren's heart pound to his chest. He should probably take the time to commit her face to memory; in a few days, she would be packing her stuff from the office and leave.
He couldn't help but fake a smile for her. To hide the fact that he felt lonely the day she handed her resignation to their editor-in-chief, Erwin.
"Crowd's getting louder inside, I'm starting to have a head ache," Eren said to Mikasa as he patted the space beside him. He took another swig of his beer while Mikasa made herself comfortable.
She was also cradling a bottle of beer for herself and for a few minutes they sat side by side by side, enjoying the inviting silence of the street being slowly departed by the people on their way to their homes or to the nearby restaurants and bars. A minus one of Last Christmas was playing inside the pub their company rented for the night, and the wails coming from Connie blasted through the pub's dilapidated speakers as he attempted to sing in-tune.
Mikasa chuckled, shaking her head. "I'm gonna miss this," she said. Eren looked at her and asked, "What, you're gonna miss your ears bleed with Connie's singing?"
"Honestly? Yeah." Mikasa looked back to where their colleagues drink and sing. "I'm gonna miss the whole team and their shenanigans during brainstorming."
Mikasa took a long swig of her beer before saying softly, "I'm gonna miss our coffee breaks, Eren."
Maybe it's the alcohol but Eren swore he saw Mikasa's eyes soften to a form of loneliness (?) but he would be calling himself delirious. Him and her were just colleagues, colleagues who happened to always get their coffees in the same cafe at the same time. Who happened to know each others' favorite sandwich and pasta for lunch.
She was just his colleague who happened to be his crush since their first day, during their first assignment writing an article about the most shippable fictional characters. And maybe, after four years of working together as writers and content creators, Mikasa was just Eren's colleague that he had harbored feelings for and now might be his only chance to say whatever these feelings were to her.
But, instead, Eren said, "I'm sure there will be better cafes in Hizuru, Miks."
What a fool.
Mikasa looked down, a falter of a smile gracing her lips as she said, "Probably." She sipped from her bottle and said, "But it wouldn't be the same."
What used to be a comfortable silence stretched out to become an awkward void between them. Minutes past, Connie's song was done, and here both Mikasa and Eren were, still sitting outside the pub, their beers getting cold as the snow started to fall. Why am I so good at ruining my chances, Eren asked himself. Why am I so good ruining moments like this? Probably because I'm the number one hopelessly in love coward out there, he noted.
"Um, we should probably go back inside. Connie said every one of us should sing in the karaoke machine," Mikasa finally said and she chuckled awkwardly as she stand. She was about to pull the door open when Eren suddenly said, "Miks wait!"
Mikasa looked back at him while he stumbled in front of her. Eren looked down breathing out as he whispered to himself, "the heck, pull yourself together, man," before looking back at her, eyes intense and mind fried with nervousness.
"I should have asked you a long time ago but, shit, I'm not really good at this. I don't know, fuck." Eren sucked in a breath and finally said, "I like you, Mikasa. And I don't know what I'll do if I don't say that before you go but, yeah. I really like you, Mikasa Ackerman."
Mikasa kept staring at him and Eren couldn't help think that he might have creeped her out. After what felt like forever, Eren didn't expect what Mikasa said next.
"Does that mean you're okay with long distance?"
Eren blinked once, then twice. Is he okay with long distance? He didn't have to think twice with his answer.
"If it's with you, I don't mind."

hmmmm so these two lines in the same episode is very suspicious to me... because even if she just doesn’t remember, why doesn’t she FEEL anything? if that was really her husband and son, shouldn’t she have that connection instinctively? shouldn’t her body remember like Henry says? idk call me crazy but I don’t think any of those pictures are real, and Maura’s complete lack of attachment to it by her own admission is a big part of why I believe that
if anything, she seems to have much more of a connection Eyk, a man she didn’t remember at all either, and yet... I really think they fell for each other before in one or more of the loops, which would also explain why Daniel clearly hated Eyk so much and was always super annoyed when Eyk was around her
